Nakamura Eiji looks at you, torn. “I’m sorry, Yamada-san. But it was me all along.”

The cold afternoon wind blows, covering the few seconds of silence after the revelation.

“...Nakamura-san, what do you…?” Your spine turns to ice.
He grimaces, and shakes his head. “It was me, Yamada-san. It’s all my fault. I egged the others on to turn against you.”
“But...why?”
He doesn’t reply.

“Eiji-kun--”
“Please stay where you are, Kobayashi-san.” You hear the halting of footsteps of the two girls behind you. “I know you’ve been keeping me in the dark all this time. Now I need to speak with Yamada-san, and take my responsibility as a man.”
“B-But…!”

He shakes his head.
“No one deserves any of this. I’m sorry. This is all my fault. Please feel free to pour all of your anger on me.”

You hesitate for a moment. And then…
You sigh.
“Nakamura-san, all I really want is your help in all of this. I just want all of this to stop.”

“Hang on!”
You hear Kobayashi stomping towards you.
“Yamada-kun, this is absurd. He’s obviously lying, he’s got nothing to do with all this! There’s no need to involve him any further.”
“Then how does he know about what's been happening?”
“I…” Kobayashi falters for a bit. “I don’t know either. But you know as well as I do that it’s impossible Eiji-kun knows all of this. Right?”

“But--”
“Kobayashi.” The silver haired girl turns around to see the class rep with a hand on her shoulder.
“Class rep…”
“Ken-kun’s right. Whether we like it or not, it seems Eiji is now tied up in all of this. And if he is willing to be an ally, then the more the better, right?”

Kobayashi Mariko looks at you. Her intense gaze bores into your skin.
“...Class rep, you know Eiji-kun better than I do.” She hisses through gritted teeth. “But I do know the type of person that he is. And the way things are going, he’s gonna get hurt. Do you want that?”
“Of course not.”
“And yet you want to involve him more in this. I’m sorry. But I won’t let that happen.”

She marches away from the both of you, and grabs Nakamura by the hand.

“K-Kobayashi-san? What are you--wha!”

You and the class rep look at each other. Then you both give chase.

“Kobayashi-san, wait!”
“Oi, Kobayashi Mariko!”

Kobayashi isn’t running, but her march is still rapid, even with Nakamura Eiji in tow. The guy isn’t resisting at all, maybe from the shock of the sudden skin contact that happened.

Kobayashi opens the door, and you expect her to dash down…

But instead she stops in her tracks. The both of you catch up easily now.

Kobayashi is standing in the doorway. Nakamura Eiji is still locked in Kobayashi’s grasp, but now he looks guilt-stricken.

You and the class rep peek through the door.

”...Rinko-chan?”
The kouhai is sitting on the ground behind the door, crying.
“Senpai...I’m sorry...it’s all my fault…”

It took a while for Rinko-chan to calm down. Kobayashi rubbed the crying girl’s back, while Nakamura Eiji is whispering some things towards her. But Rinko-chan continued to sob.

You and Ryou stand some distance away from them, waiting for her to calm down.

“Yamada-senpai…” Rinko-chan is still sniffling, but eventually the two calm her down enough to get her talking normally.

“I-It’s all my fault...Senpai did nothing wrong, it was all my fault...I was feeling miserable, you see? And Rinko-chan doesn’t have many friends. She’s too scared to tell Ryou-chan and Mariko-chan. So I told Senpai, but then Senpai said he’s going to take responsibility for me, and then...and then…!”

She goes back into a crying fit again.

“What exactly did you do, Rinko-chan?” the class rep gently prods.
“I-I-It’s...I knew what was happening the following day, after Yamada-senpai visited. They were talking about Yamada-senpai, saying bad things. I could have stopped it...but instead...I…I even added to saying the bad things...and encouraging mean stuff...and...and...!”

“Hush, hush, it’s okay now,” says Kobayashi.
“Mariko-chaaaaan! Uwaaaaaah! I'm so sorry!”
Tears burst from the young kouhai as she embraces the open arms of the ojou. She has surprisingly high maternal sense.

Eiji stands up from beside her and approaches you with a solemn expression.

“...Sorry about lying to you, Yamada-san.”
“Not at all. You had no idea, right?”
He shakes his head. “I’m your friend, as well as Rinko-chan’s senpai. I do need to take responsibility for what happened. I’m just sorry for not telling you the whole truth from the get-go.”
You nod.

“So, Yamada-san, what do you plan to do now?”

“It’s obvious isn’t it?” You step forward, and the four of them look at you. Having the gaze of the four most powerful beings in this world is enough for you to shake in your knees, but you continue.

“Rinko-chan...thanks for telling me the truth. It’s unfortunate what has happened, but what’s done is done. Now, we should take steps in going forward.

“I’m really sorry for being a bother to you guys. This all began since I intruded into your place. And I’m sorry, but it looks like I’m going to be a bother for a bit longer.

“I need your help. To be honest, I’m a nobody. No one will listen to the words of an ass-kisser. But maybe they’ll listen to you guys. I have a feeling that if we all work together, we could stop all this. I’m sorry for being selfish…”

You bow down.

“But will you please help me?”

Silence. Then, you see two pairs of feet approach you.

“You don’t need to bow down, Yamada-san.” Eiji touches you in the shoulder and helps you up. “Of course we’ll help you. But there’s just some things I want to correct.”

He smiles. “You’re not nobody. Certainly not a bother, either. You were never intruding into anything. We’re friends, man. You’re always welcome in our circle.”

You catch Ryou smiling, while Rinko-chan and Kobayashi has complicated expressions on.

You smile. “I’ll pass. I like the way things are now.”
Eiji nods. “If you say so.” He faces the others. “Now let’s start planning on how to help Yamada-san!”

-------

The five of you leave the rooftop in different intervals so as not to arouse suspicion. Despite the alliance being formed, it was agreed that the timing is the most important thing to get down in all of this. Being discovered might mean not only a worse time for you, but maybe even the collective turning against Eiji and the others.

It was Kobayashi who left first, followed by Rinko-chan.

“This is gonna be a pain…”

Ryou is scratching her head, since she’s the next one out. Being suspended means she shouldn’t be here in the first place. Before she heads out, though, she looks at you.

“Alright. See you later, Ken-kun. Eiji.”
Both of you wave as she disappears down the stairs. A couple moments of silence go between the two of you.

“Yamada-san.”
“Yes?”
“What do you know about Ryou?”
“...I don’t really understand your question, Nakamura-san.”

He pockets his hands and starts kicking at the ground.
“...I believe I’ve accrued quite the reputation for being a dense guy. But it doesn’t really help if people keep stuff from me, right?”
You stay silent.

“Just the other day...Ryou was feeling down again. Everyone else seems to know what’s going on except for me. But she won’t tell me either.”

He sighs. “It’s kinda frustrating, that’s all.”

He glances at you. “Do you know something about Ryou, Yamada-san?”

dang, i missed it, ah well everything seems to be progressing nominally anyway.

I feel like it would've been interesting to be in the circle finally but I understand not wanting to go in on it, especially after this whole shitstorm that occurred, should be interesting to see what happens from this point on.
>>
You know, I just realized; if Rinko was the one who set us up with more rumors and shit, it wouldn't surprise me if she was the one who fucked over Class Rep too. It would make sense, considering they're competing for Eiji's affection. It probably didn't work because of how dense he was, which caused her to back off from that strategy, but not until after the damage was done.

She might've been crying to put in an act, or more unlikely, out of actual guilt. Didn't think she'd go as far to try and redirect the blame to Eiji, though the guy probably took that duty on for himself. Rinko probably has a lot of connections, being the young mastermind that she is. We should be sure to use them.

Of course, there's also the possibility that she's just a normal kouhai who saw an opportunity to get rid of a rival and a meddlesome intruder. Though iirc, she was the one who said some creepy shit that was borderline yandere, so I don't know about that. Regardless, we should probably be careful around her.

Anon, I don't think any of the girls have acted remotely yandere yet (aside from maybe Ryou in one instance or another with that whole "man stealer" schtick she's got going and all).

You do raise a viable point, though. Whoever is manipulating the events backstage has proven that they aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. It might be a good idea to keep an eye out for things that might give us a hand in this little war--chains, sports equipment, the odd wood chipper in the schoolyard or furnace in the basement. Art supplies, bottles of sedative--anything easily swipable, really.
>>
>>2239031
>She might've been crying to put in an act
I thought so as well, at the beginning, but thinking about it, she didn't have to tell Eiji anything. The only reason for her to tell him was if she was feeling guilty.
>>
By the way, we are going for the [True Ending], right? I'm just asking because I haven't seen it mentioned in a while. If I remember right, our brother told us that in order to get the [True Ending] we need to achieve [Happiness] for every character. Does that include mobs?

Well either way, I think we should go for it. Obviously right now getting The Collective off our back takes precedent, but let's keep [True Ending] in the back of our minds.
>>

“I might be a dense guy, but please don’t think I’m dumb. I don’t know why, but somehow I feel like the girls are hiding a lot of stuff from me. “Have you ever considered -why- the girls are keeping things from you, if your assumption is even correct in the first place?”

He stays silent.

“This is just my opinion,” you continue. “But maybe it’s because they know how you really are Nakamura-san. That you’re the type to dive into the problem, sacrificing yourself if it means you save their well-being.

“Nakamura-san...that’s a twisted sense of justice.

“They keep things from you because they don’t want to hurt you. What would hurting yourself benefit them? Do you think you could save everyone if you sacrifice yourself? I know you have the best intentions but...that is incredibly idealistic of you.”

He seems to struggle for a bit, but comes back at you determined. “...And what’s wrong with that? What’s wrong in trying to save everyone? It may be idealistic, but if there’s a possibility...why shouldn’t I give it my all?”

You pause at the surprising answer from Nakamura Eiji. You chuckle.
“Eh? Did I say something funny?”
“Nothing, nothing. Hm, to be honest, I don’t have an answer for what you just said right now. Maybe I’m just jaded.”

WHERE'S OUR WIZARD POWER'S, REEEEEEEE! !!!!

Early evening. The chief takes one look at you before waving away his hand.

“Go home, Yamada. You’re in no state to work.”
“But chief--”
“No buts! You think you could peel a potato with half of your face covered in gauze?!”
“I could still clean u--”
“Oh? Ohhh?! So you’d like to limp your way out there in front of the customers and start mopping?! Are you outta your mind?!”

Despite the chief being only half your height, you feel yourself shrinking and shrinking with every passing second. The employees around you aren’t even looking at you. You think it’s partly because of rush hour, and mostly because this is a common occurrence.

“You better make your way out right now, or I’ll finish the job on the other side of your face!”

“Do you have a curfew?”
“Eh? Not really, chief.”
“Then, if you really want to be paid, you could clean up after dinner rush is over. Just stay in the employees room for now and do your homework or whatever. That fine?”
“Of course chief.”

“Then call your parents and get out of the kitchen,” he says as he turns away. “You’re getting in the way, Yamada.”

You nod, and head over to the employees room. You really need to save up for that computer, or at least have enough to take Hanazawa out on a date…

-------

With dinner rush ending, you head out to the front and start earning your keep.

Though some of the customers raise their eyebrows at the sight of your bandages and limp, none of them speak up or complain. Maybe they notice just how hard you are working, cleaning tables, carrying plates, mopping the floor.

You didn’t even notice the time until someone tapped you on the shoulder. You turn around to see a familiar lavender color.

“Ryou.”
“Good job out here.”
“You too.”
“Chief says you’re free to go since it’s getting late. You haven’t eaten either right?”

“Hey Ken-kun. I’ve never apologized to you properly about what happened before.”

You sigh out. “What *did* happen back then, class rep?”

Ryou takes a shaky breath. “I’m sorry.” She looks at you with sincere repentance in her eyes. “It’s...well, I think I just got carried away, that’s all. I don’t really know myself to be honest…”

She shakes her head. “That’s not a valid excuse though. I’m sorry Yamada-kun. Because of my actions I might have destroyed not only our friendship, but also mine and Hanazawa’s. “I don’t hate you,” You reply. “I’m still your friend class rep. I promised to help you, and I won’t back down on that promise now.”

Sure, the promised help you had with Ryou was with her conquest of Eiji. But you also promised to yourself that you’ll help the ‘man-stealer’ part of her. And you won’t back down until she, as well as the others, achieve [Happiness].
That’s the least friends should do for each other, right?

You laugh. “Though, you -are- a bit of an idiot though.”
Ryou snorts. “Ken-kuuuun...that’s a low blow…”

Chuckling, you sigh out in relief. At least your friendship is still intact for now.

“Oho? What’s this?”

A shadow covers the two of you. You look to see the familiar crimson red hair of a certain person. You feel Ryou tense up across from you.

“I didn't mean to interrupt, but you are aware, Yama-chan, that I’m still under contract of a certain ‘girlfriend’ of yours?” Nakahara Fumi sneers.

Nakahara Fumi plops down beside you, and leans back on the couch, with her feet on the table.

“What are you doing here, Fumi?” Ryou, with clenched fists and gritted teeth, glares at the delinquent girl.
“I could do whatever I want, since I am a free citizen of Japan, no? What, fallen in love with your class rep powers so much that you think you could order me around?”
“Don’t spin my words. You know what I’m asking you.”

Nakahara smirks. “Don’t get cocky. I’m not here for you.” She turns her neck and leans on your shoulder. “I’m here for Yama-chan.”

“Wha--?”

“You think you’re actually being sneaky going to school like that? If the teachers didn’t already like you, they would’ve called you out after they saw you snooping around like that.”

Ryou stays silent. Nakahara continues.
“So you go to the rooftop. And for some reason, so did the whole gang. Kobayashi Mariko, Nakamura Eiji.” Nakahara smiles, one oozing with mischievousness. “And a crying Fujimura Rinko. As if guilt stricken, or something?”

Ryou slams on the table. “You knew?!”
“Unlike you class rep, my jurisdiction goes beyond the borders of the classroom.”
“And you didn’t stop her?!”

“Hey,” Nakahara snuggles closer to you, smiling. “If it makes this little city shit’s life more miserable, who am I to stop it?”

The class rep is fuming. “Let go of Ken-kun.”
“Nah. I wanna hear something from him first.”

She faces you, her body still huddled up to you. “Hey, hey. Aren’t they just a despicable set of girls? Especially that Rinko girl! If you only heard about the trash she talked about you, oh boy…”

>Stop that. I’ve yet to hear her side of the story.
>To be honest, I don’t think that girl ever liked me…

“To be honest, I don’t think that girl ever liked me…”

Nakahara smiles. “Right? That’s why--”
“But I’ve already forgiven her.”
“...Eh?”

“Look, what’s happened to me so far hasn’t been the greatest, yes. And of course, Rinko-chan adding to all of that didn’t exactly help.”
“Yes, that’s why--”
“But it would be unfair if I blame everything that has happened so far to her alone. It won’t be right to condemn her, when she’s only trying to protect what she feels was an intruder. Of course she’ll be defensive right? So I can’t blame her wholly. Part of the blame is on me.”

Ryou is smiling. “Ken-kun…” She seems genuinely overjoyed from your words.

Nakahara on the other hand…

“...What the hell is that?”
“What do you mean, Nakahara?”
“This girl has been encouraging the attacks on you on her grade level! One that your friends consider to be their friends! And now you’re protecting her?!”
“Nakahara…”

“Listen to me, Yamada. I came for you today for one thing. I don’t know if you’re just changing the tone of your voice cause the fuckin’ class rep is around you fuckin’ gomasuri, so I’ll come at you straight.

“I know you’re mad. I know you’re frustrated at all this. If it wasn’t for your girlfriend being there at the right time, there’d be nothing under that gauze right now. You would have -wished- that you were dead.

“Join me, Yamada. Let’s crush everyone who goes against us together. You’ve gone toe to toe with me already, so I know, if we team up, no one will call you a kiss ass again.”

“Let me ask you something, Nakahara. Last time it was me asking to be allies with you, and you refused me. What changed your mind?”

She stays silent.
“Did you think I would break because of what they’d do to me? That I would beg for your mercy and turn to the path of chaos to ‘get even’? No. Nakahara, I don’t think that’s the right way at all. If we fight anger with more anger...do you think two wrongs will make a right? I respect you. But I’m afraid I will have to refuse your proposal.”

Nakahara has pushed away from you. She’s glaring at you, with a gaze full of killing intent.
“Why...Why….”

“I’ll ask you again Nakahara. Do you want to become allies? With your help and influence, surely we could overcome anything the collective will throw at us.”

She says nothing. Instead, she spits on the ground.

“Fuck off, city shit. Who the fuck do you think you are?”

You glance at Ryou. She looks sad as well.

“I thought...I thought we were the same...I thought finally...”
Nakahara’s voice tapers off, and she shakes her head.

“...Ryou.”
“...What is it, Fumi?”
“Watch this guy’s back 24/7, or I’m going to kill him.”
And with those words, she leaves.

“Well, that kind of put a damper on our dinner, huh?”

Ryou tries to cheer the mood up while you are both walking home together. You try to laugh along, but it’s obvious that both of you are only half-heartedly doing so.

The road itself is illuminated well by the streetlamps, yet Ryou keeps on glancing on the shadowy parts of the street.

“What is it, Ryou? Worried that Nakahara’s threat is real?”
“As far as I know, Fumi has never killed anyone, but you just don’t know with her…”

Upon reaching a certain junction on the road though, Ryou’s steps slow down. When you glance back at her, she looks torn. Looks like this is her stop.

“Don’t worry about me class rep. I could handle myself. I’m actually more worried about you.”
“You don’t need to, my house is near here already.” She sighs. “Are you sure you’re gonna be alright?”
You laugh. “Pretty sure.”
“Alright then. Next time I see you, it should be at school already!”

She turns around, but before leaving, she turns back as if remembering something.

“By the way, Ken-kun. You should get those wounds sorted out. You should probably not come to school on Monday.”
“Eh? I’m sure I’ll be fine by then--”

“Ken-kun, you're not listening to me.”
“You shouldn't come to school on Monday.”

fair enough. but we didn't 'belittle her and tell her to buzz off' neither :) i understand that im not the best at handling write ins, but its literally either a deny proposal or accept proposal choice. we could easily just ban write ins when theyre not asked, but i really do appreciate your inputs.

couldnt you at least meet me halfway on this one? since, tho im just assuming,
you were gonna refuse her in the end anyway?

Seems like Nakahara has a lot of hate and loneliness to work through, hopefully we can sort it out after this mess we find ourselves in.

As for not coming to school on Monday, that's a pretty odd request from Class Rep, idk if we should follow through or not. But if we do, I think we can use it as a day to get some training in.
>>
>>2241602
I don't think a vocal minority would be able to sway the vote her way.

With her dyed hair I got no idea what she is, but bringing her [Happiness] makes sense because she has worries and sorrows . As she said 'What do YOU know about my situation?!', or something along those lines.

Has... ANYONE mentioned yet how much this shit (Read: Awe-inspiring Quest) resembles fokken 'Angel Beats!'? Plot wise?
>>
>>2252530
Angel beats is generic as fuck though.

Could've been a great series if the ending hadn't been so rushed.
>>
If this delinquent girl really want to cut ties then i propose something.

Give her the last fistfight that we owe her, no bars, no rules cagematch if she want's that.

She is probably alone and we gonna be full shonen punching with this girl and after we beat (or hopefully beat)her we gonna ask that question again if she would be willing to be our ally. Not really that we should call her all the time but when the worst fucking scenario comes.

I wanted to have Fumi achive [Happiness] too.

Also if this is Ken Purgatory then this is all revolves around him. What we know about him is he is a NEET Otaku and probably living alone who has dissapointed parents. And now we have a chance to do what we didn't do when we are teenager so we probably want to achieve something (like winning the sprinting race or win the soccer)

If my hunches are correct then we need to learn love that we didnt experience or abandoned when we were a filthy neet shitposter back then.

Ken needs to love his parents and in extension Kei, Eiji needs to choose who to love (and probably figure out what is love), Class Rep needs to learn to love herself, Oujo needs to learn how to find love in others (rid that fucking jealousy you bitch girl), Tezuka needs to acknowledge love and not give up, and twintails need to learn what is love you immature brat.

Although we already slash one of our objectives and that is to find ourselves a lovelife and that is waifu Mayumi so we are gucci on that front.

And oh Fumi could be looking on a love on a battlefiled and mother and father we should at least say we love them.
>>
>>2254415
I am fully onboard with everything written here. The name of the game being to retain the status quo fits well with the purgatory theory. It might not be so for anyone else in this world but maybe it's ours, cause we had to have been put here for a reason.
