>The Intro
Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barret, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Let's have some fun.

That, didn't work out. Not that you were expecting it to, honestly. Just hopeful. Those guard are absolutely a cut above the literal goons you've been taking down since you started fighting crime.

A quick look over to the other pods in the room and one stands out to amongst about a couple dozen identical. This one is sorta bouncing around. You're strapped down pretty hard so you couldn't jostle this thing like that if you wanted to. Who the hell is in there?

"Hey, yo, you. In the box."

The pod comes to a stop and goes silent for a moment before a young voice comes out of it. Hardly audible. "In the box?" You see a pair of green eyes get close up to the glass of the pod. "Were both in boxes, dude."

"Hey, gotcha to respond."

"Fair enough, who're you?"

"Grey Ghost, got captured just now."

You hear a hollow ding echo from inside of their pod. "Dang! Another villain, Roulette needs to diversify."

You're honestly getting tired of this. "Oh come on, what about Grey Ghost sounds villainous?"

"I dunno man, grey ain't exactly a heroic color. And ghosts, spooky. Should a hero be modeled after something spooky?"

"One word. Batman."

Silence reigns once again in the containment room until you hear. "Fair enough." Once again from the other pod.

"So, who're you then? It may not seem like it, but I'm in the middle of busting us out." Running a hand over the dent in your pod that your grapnel made you wonder if more shots could pop it open.

"Fastest kid alive! But you can just call me Kid Flash, KF is cool too."

Hold the phone, you know that name. "Kid Flash? I think Robin mentioned you once or twice. He asked you to join the Titans right? You said no."

"You know Robin? What the heck, who are you again? And wait- only once or twice?!"

A little scatterbrained? "Again, I'm Grey Ghost, I joined the Titans a while ago. Here to bust out the metahumans. Grey Ghost."

"Ohoho, so you got my spot on the Titans. That's cool. You seem cool even though I can't even see you."

This guy... "Yeah, let's get back to saving the metahumans."

"Right, right. What's your plan?"

"I'm kinda still in the middle of getting that together."

"Welp, I hope you've got some good ideas floating around cause' the next fight will be starting in a few minutes. Unless, you wanted to go out there. It's pretty much impossible to do anything with the cage she has set up though, even I couldn't get through that."

Trying to bust out wins unanimously.

>>2245465
And the downside to this is that if you get out, you'll have to contend with elite guards with high tech weaponry without your powers.

But the upside is that you'll bust out immediately. If you succeed.

"I'm thinking I can bust outta this pod with a few more tries. Then I've gotta get the collar off somehow." Your grapnel's grip sits comfortably in your hand, the tiny motor in this thing can make the hook break 100 mph, according to Barbara, so it really should be able to bust this shit wide open.

KF doesn't seem to like the idea though. "That may not be the best idea man, I mean these things can suppress the widest variety of meta-abilities I've ever seen."

"Speakin' of which, how can you shake your pod around like that? You can't be that beefy."

"Ha! How do you know? Well, to be serious. I think it's because my powers don't come from a meta-gene, they come from something called the Speed Force. Which is way too much to get into right now. Just know that I've still got some gas in the tank."

Depressing the trigger, the soft whine of the grapnel preparing to fire fills your ears inside the pod and releases. With a loud metallic pop the door to your pod opens and less than a moment later, so does the door to the containment room. If you're gonna move you've gotta do it now!

The world seems to be almost in slow-mo as you spin on your heel, ignoring the sharp eyes of the guards entering the room, leveling their strange weapons at you. All you've got on your mind is the fact that two metahumans is better than one. Especially one that still has at least some of their powers. You fire your grapnel, putting a sizable dent in the seam of the door. And duck beneath the swing of one of the guards, your grapnel snaps back into place as they step into the room.

The difference between these guys and the two-bit thugs and mobsters you've been dealing with is night and fucking day. The first one keeps his weird rifle trained on you while the first twirls a baton in his right hand, two prongs jut out of the top, and a red energy crackles around it. They don't taunt you, they don't trashtalk, they don't say a goddamn thing, they just move to a strategically sound positions in the room and make their move.

Moving in, the one with the baton swings and jabs deliberately, he'd definitely trained. Well trained too, you're actually breaking a sweat here just trying to avoid getting your ass zapped again. Ted's training takes over, and you lock the older, larger man's arm in a lock and bash the crook of his elbow until he drops the baton, but that's when the pistol comes out, you keep it at bay with a kick and he fires into the ceiling.

Firing red bolts that leave melting holes in the concrete. Yeah, you're not dealing with that, in your struggle, it hits you just how much you rely on your hardening for close quarters, this guys is gonna break outta your hold any second now. And if you take him down his buddy is just waiting to shoot you. And KF is shaking his pod up and down but can't seem to bust out. You've gotta even the odds or you won't make it outta this room.

Twisting the first guards arm until his shoulder pops, you take his pistol and do something risky. The red bolt belts into the dent you left behind with your grapnel and finally, his pod door bursts open. He blurs out of his pod and the one with is rifle aimed at you finds it turned backwards in his hand. "Y'know, I won't claim to be an expert on firearms but I don't think you hold it like that."

The guard fumbles with his rifle for a moment before dropping it entirely and reaching for his sidearm. But a yellow blur circles around you while you struggle with the first guard and the baton in his hand disappears. And while you struggle withe the first, a red flash fills the room, followed by the screams of the second guard. That's it. Ted taught you better than this.

Hopping up you wraps your legs around the first guard and pull him to the ground and pin his arm behind him, he attempts to break out of your hold but his popped shoulder keeps him in place. And a well placed elbow from you knocks him out cold. Standing, you can't help but laugh at how long it took for you to handle one guy without your powers. And this is how Dick does it all the time?

"Hey man, you all right there?" KF's yellow costume stands in contrast to his mentor's. It's almost, happy?

"Yeah, I'm just used to that being easier." You have to admit.

"Maybe I can help with that. You mind?" He points to your collar and you shake your head, go for it speedster.

Wrapping his finger under it. He closes his eyes and concentrates. Nothing happens at first but eventually yellow arcs of energy, electricity begins to come off of him. his hands start... vibrating? Your collar is destroyed quickly and he eventually does the same for his own. But it's clear it takes a lot out of him. Especially when he cracked yours.

"So. Grey Ghost, where do we go from here.?"

Good Question.

>"Were gonna free the metahumans now, cause some chaos."

Alright so freeing the metahumans and fighting directly is a go. And there's a write-in for picking up the shock baton.

>Writing
>>
>>2245845
"Well, for starters, we're gonna free all of the metahumans, they ain't got access to their powers yet but it's better than bein' locked up right?" You pick up one of the strange sidearms and stop to pocket shock baton one of the was using and hook it to your utility belt. This'll definitely come in handy.

KF is leaning against a nearby wall, doing stretches. "Then what?"

"Then, we go after Roulette. She's gotta have some kinda control for the collars. We free everyone, wrap her up for the police. "

"I like it, simple. Lets hit it then. Always wanted to take part in a prison break"

As you and KF take the the time to free the captive metas you notice that you don't recognize most of em. You know Atomic Skull, you saw him getting his ass beat by Superman on the news once. He looks real strange, stranger than usual, without the atomic fire covering his skull. You also know the woman with green hair that KF is chatting up as Fire. Not the most creative name but you saw what she did to that sea monster on the coast of brazil, you wouldn't fuck with that.

Though it seems KF thinks he's gonna get somewhere. "So how'd they catch you? You're clearly too hot to handle."

Uggh. He's is barking up the wrong tree. And now ain't the time. "Dude, you forget where we are?"

"Oh, right! Catch you later, beautiful." She giggles and waves goodbye as you yank him away from the metas to discuss your play.

"Ok so, I'm gonna need you to back me up on this, you seem like you 've been here for a little while so you can find Roulette faster than any of us. I'm hoping the mob of metas will shock them enough to give us an edge but the longer these metas are without their powers the more likely it is that someone is gonna get killed."

He mock selutes and slides down his red goggles as he lowers himself into a runners starting stance. "Ready, set..."

KF takes off in a yellow streak, somehow even faster than when you dealt with the guards with weird ass weapons and you look to all the freed metas, who're all just looking at you for some reason. "What're standing around lookin' at me for?! Get our there and fight if you wanna get outta here!"

Your command causes an uproar in the crowd and they take off through the entrance, leaving you at the back of the meta mob. Well, you weren't expecting that but these are people who've been forced to fight and kill for entertainment. However long this has been going on. Your body takes on your usual smoky qualities as you stride through the wide hallway, following the crowds path of destruction.

It ain't easy, and a few people take some hit on the way out but you all fight your way out of the halls and into the main chamber. The bright spotlights of the arena make you squint, even through your goggles and you see KF zipping here and there and knocking guards off balance when they try to shoot someone, he's helping keep the powerless metas alive but he's spread thin.

And in the arena currently, there's a huge fight going on, there's some much debris and light flying around that you can't even tell whose in the ring, but their powers are turned on right now, so maybe you can use that. But then you see it, in a spectators box above the arena, Roulette has gotta be up there, or you can at least follow her trail from there.

>Grapple up to the spectators box and confront Roulette!
>There's a control box on the side of the arena, maybe you can take walls down.

With the push of a button you're on comms with Artemis. "Morgan? What the hell is going on down there?"

Shrugging you just say. "Prison break."

"You brought all the captured metas out here, how'd you manage that?"

"Had some help, but we'll have to talk about it later." You feel the usual tingle as a bullet passes through you and you take a moment to punch out a thug who was clearly in over his head.

"Right. Hold on... Okay, Ollie and Dinah are on their way to Roulette's office. And I'll join you in just a minute." Artemis hangs up and you scan the panicking crowd for her but you don;t see the golden blonde anywhere. She must be grabbing her gear.

Your attention is then taken up by a metal spike that flies into your torso- or through, rather. You look down at it, and look up to see a huge man, easily dwarfing you in height and just made of muscle. He's covered in dark colored armor and a almost hockey-like mask is hiding his face. He squints at you before chuckling to himself. "SO you must be the new meta Roulette was talking about, y'know she's looking forward to making lots of money off you."

"Can't say I'm sorry to disappoint. Who might you be?" You step out of the javelin, your grey wisps leaving a trail.

He watches you carefully, his eyes are predatory, the last time you faced someone like this was Cheetah. Just thinking about that monster sends a chill down your spine. "Oh? A teenager with manners, eh? You can call me what all of my business associates call me Sportsmaster."

Of course, you'd run into him now, shit.

"Okay, couple questions. Why Sportsmaster? There's lots of unpicked names floating around out there. And you pick Sportsmaster?" You take one step forward and he doesn't move but you can tell his body is ready to spring forward, he's just waiting for the right time.

"It seemed like the right thing to call myself when I entered this world. And if you find it amusing, you won't any more after tonight, if you walk away that is."

"Then I suppose that means I can't convince you to jump ship huh? You know your employer won't be in business much longer." Time to appeal to his merc-ish sensibilities.

He just wags his finger at you. "I don't think so, boy. I've already been payed for this venture. And you've been watching too many movies if you think someone in my line of work can afford to abandon a job half-done."

"Well shit, can't blame a guy for trying. Just remember. You could've walked away." Bringing up your fists, you try to prepare yourself for whatever he has up his sleeve.

"Funny, I was going to say the same to you."

A beep to your left barely registers, but as you turn your head you notice a small red light coming from the javelin he stuck in the wall next to you...

Quick as you can, you quickdraw your grapnel and fire. Latching onto one of the metal support beams for the arena and narrowly missing the blast. The force of it washes over you as you peak your ascension. Damn, lotta explosives packed into those things. But Sportsmaster ain't done. He tosses two fresh javelins at you and reveals his hand. Literally, you see him thumb a metal device on his belt and the javelins prime themselves in midair.

Robin showed you just how to avoid bullshit like this. Pointing your grapnel back down, you fire and hook it on the wall behind Sportsmaster and come in hard and fast. His javelins explode behind you, washing your back in heat. Hardening your legs on the way down, you slam into him with both feet just as he brings both of his arms together to defend from your assault.

"Not bad, junior. Let's see if you're really ready to play with the big boys!" Reaching to the small of his back he pulls out a weapon, or at least you think it's a weapon, it looks like a metal ball with a handle attached. Until he depresses a button on the side. ANd the metal ball hits the floor and cracks it a little, revealing a metal cord connecting it and the grip. "Let's see how you handle this!"

He swings the ball, which is easy enough to duck under and close the distance, but he rears back and presses the switch again. A metallic whine is your only warning before you look over your should to see the ball headed fright for your head.

In an instant, something inside you says 'duck!' so you lower your head just enough for the ball to pass through you and back to Sportsmaster. It reunites with the grip with a loud metal clang and the blonde merc laughs. "Guess you got enough brains floating around in that skull after all." Another look at the ball reveals that it's pulsing somehow. The air around it seems to ripple.

That can't be good for your health. "Yeah well, it don't take a genius to know that someone like you comes prepared."

"Ain't that the truth. It's been fun kid, but just do me a favor and die already!" He whips the damn ball around and around. Overhead and side to side. You're looking for a opening when you catch a flash of green, and an arrow finds purchase in Sportmaster's shoulder. Right between the armor plates.

Your eyes dart up just in time to see Artemis sliding down on her grapple arrow system from the metal support above you. She lands and stands shoulder to shoulder with you. Arrow aimed squarely at Sportsmaster's head. "Hey Blondie, I was just starting to wonder where my backup was."

"Right here." She says, tightening her grip on her already overdrawn shot. "And I'm not going anywhere." Her eyes are hard, and focused on her dad like he the only one in the room. In the world.

"Baby girl. First time I seen you face to face in what? Four years? And that's your idea of a hello? An arrow in the shoulder?" He laughs again, laughs hard, practically fucking cackles. "You're just like your old man." He puts a hand on the shaft of the arrow and wrenches it free with one pull and examines the arrowhead. "But then again, if you were anything like me, you would've hit me between the eyes."

"You're right, I am nothing like you!" She looses her arrow but he deflects it with the ball of his. It pings off and the trick arrow lands on the floor, useless. A dud? Artemis seems surprised too.

"Surprised? Don't be." He opens his palm downward, letting several balls roll onto the floor. They pop, releasing dark smoke all over. And the merc disappears. Shit. You and Artemis go back to back and wait while the fighting rages on in the world outside the smoke cloud.

"Ghost, how much has he seen you do?" Artemis whispers while you remain back to back, circling and watching for movement.

"He knows I'm pretty much invulnerable physical attacks. And my hardening ability. But that's about it." You whisper back, not really knowing where she's going with this.

"You need to go low, you know what I mean? I'll keep him distracted."

"And leave your back exposed? Hell no, you must be crazy, this guy is serious business and-"

"I know!" She hisses, cutting you off. "I know because he's my dad. Who do you think trained me for most of my life? Just trust me on this. Were a team remember. The whole gang may not be here but were still Titans."

You can't help but grin, really. "Alright Blondie, if that's how you want it."

Dispersing you sink to the floor and cover the ground right at Artemis' boots. She turns at perfect clockwise and counter-clockwise intervals back and forth. Just waiting for Sportsmaster to show himself. When he does, it's through a flying disc that cuts through the smoke with a nearly silent whistle. But Artemis isn't shaken, in fact, you get the feeling that she's been waiting for this. She shoots down the disc with the kind of precision you've come to expect, then even more fly through the smoke.

And she shoots them all down, not even one by one. But all at once, nocking three at once and taking just a split second to be sure of her aim and destroying them all at once! Then something neither of you expected, a flash of light, your vision clouds for a second and Artemis covers her eyes and in that instant he's on her with a staff.

>Continued
>>
>>2246732
She raises her bow and catches it the middle but it's clear he's going to overpower her any minute! "Don't be sad you couldn't measure up Artemis. You can try again in a another four years."

He hooks the staff under her bows arms and rips it out of her grasp, he raises the staff and brings it back down. This is it! But he whiffs. Seeing as there's nothing in his hands. KF whistles non-chalantly, leaning up against a nearby wall twirling his staff in hand. "Oh, I'm sorry, were you still using this?"

The surprise in his eyes is all the cue you needed. Launching yourself from your position on the ground you reassert yourself and and harden your fist, landing an uppercut you wish Ted could've seen . Sportsmaster lands hard on his back. Out cold. "That's what you get when you underestimate Titans."

KF zooms closer and leans over the down and out merc, whistling. "Whoa, we gave it to him good huh?"

Artemis is still carrying that scowl on her face. "If by we you mean me and Grey Ghost, we didn't need your help." She leans over and handcuffs her father, leaving him on the concrete floor.

"Hey! Was it supposed to be a private match or something? You guys clearly needed some help. So I gave it. You're welcome"

"No, we didn't need your help, if you wanted to be helpful. You could've stuck to what you were doing. We had that under control." But Artemis isn't giving an inch. She gets real intense when her dad is part of the issue. You go to break them up but you're being hailed on comms. Shaking your head, you turn away to leave them to bicker in the background. "Ghost here."

"Hey kid, It's Green Arrow. Listen, Canary and I are gettin' held up here but you've got trouble headed your way."

"Sportsmaster, we know. Already taken care of."

"He's not the only muscle Roullete hired, she-" Your comms audio blows out. And you hear Dinah's Canary cry blow out the glass in the spectators booth at the same time. "she hired more than just one merc for this shindig."

At least that stopped Artemis and KF for a moment. "Then who the hell else? These meta down here might become a problem on their own if we don't bust outta here soon."

>Continued

>>2246738
Then you get your answer. Masked individuals on... flying playing cards? Oh come on! People will do anything for a theme. There's gotta be dozens of them, and one stands out. Most look like masked thugs, well equipped masked thugs but still. But this guy, his getup and their name tell you that he must be the King. His cheesy smile and gaudy crown says it all.

"They call themselves the Royal Flush Gang. Don't take em lightly, kid. Theie tech is the real deal. Just hold em off until Canary and I finish up here!" A flash of light pulses from the spectators box and the comms go dead.

Thankfully, KF and Artemis have stopped arguing to focus on the new challengers.

>"Okay, forget this. Take out as many as you can until GA and Canary pull through."
>"I'm gonna take their King. Cover me."

Seeing the dozens of new mercs flying in almost makes you wanna scream. They just keep on coming. You never thought this would be simple but goddamn. "Blondie, you got anything in that quiver that can put the hurt on a bunch of flying assholes?"

She sighs. "Nothing so specific. But I've got something that can give us a real opening. "

"Good, hit em with that and cover me. I'm going after their king. Ideally, we'll cut the head off the snake and make this easier on the powered down metas." Raising your grapnel, Artemis raises her bow alongside you and looses her arrow. The thing pops and releases a dozen shining objects into the air the pop in turn, releasing several powerful flashes that even you have to squint from with your goggles.

When the flying criminals all become disoriented you make your move. Grappling onto a nearby flying card you launch yourself towards King and fly right through the crowded airspace, he opens his eyes just in time to see you tackle him off of his flying card and down towards the crowd of rioting metas. "Sorry, my friend really isn't in the mood for cards."

He smiles that cheeky sleazy grin again. "But my friend, this is Vegas! There's always time for cards!"

His hands light up with a deep, practically crimson flame and burns your arms before your forced to let go. Though he's falling, he cackles until his flying card catches him and you land gently on the ground, clutching the burned sleeves of your costume. Son of a bitch! Royal Flush has got metas in it too?

"Sorry to disappoint darling but we Royal Flush Gang hold ourselves to a higher standard than poor mister Sportsmaster." He raises his scepter and the golden on it's top ignites with red flame. Artemis and KF flank you while the heat radiating from King only intensifies.

Fuck. You were an idiot to think this would be so easy.

"Ghost." Artemis helps you up. " I think I can disable his flying card but I need him to be distracted for just a second."

KF thinks he can do one better. "Yeah, and so can I if you just give me a minute, a vortex will bring this clown down!"

Artemis is unconvinced, of course. "That's idiotic, something like that in these quarters will get people tossed through the air like ragdolls!"

"You got any better ideas? Cause shoot him with an arrow doesn't sound so impressive to me!"

>"Fuck it, we'll just jump him all at once!."
>"Fine, Artemis, you think you can ground him? Go for it."

Calm down Barrett, Ted said it a million times. Gettin' pissed off is a quick way to lose a fight. You take deep breath and try to ignore the growing pain in your forearms. "Fine, Artemis, you think you can ground him? Go for it." She just nods and takes a moment to run her fingers along the fletching of her arrows before picking one. The arrowhead is extra large.

"KF, you can more than handle crowd control while we line this up. Keep em busy, and we can end this joker."

He ducks down into a runners pose again and grins. "You got it!" He disappears and you catch glimpses of guards and thugs getting bowled over and various blunt objects being flung at Royal Flush guys.

King watches him with a careful eye but that fucking grin never leaves his face. Yeah, you'll fix his fuckin' wagon. You halfway disperse, your grey cloud spreading over yourself and even Artemis as she takes aim. You don't know what she's waiting for but- she looses the arrow, and goddamn you couldn't have guessed it.

Her arrow bursts and unleashes a spray of fucking ball bearing that get lodged into many of the flying cards, You can't help but smile as you watch the flying nuisances go down, and Artemis nocks another arrow and glances at you. Time to fly. She looses her next arrow and while King is fussing over the steel balls buried into his flying card he's stunned by the sight of your grapnel hooking onto his card.

Hardening your fist, you smash it full speed into the false king's stupid mug. Knocking him off of his throne pretty handily. You grapple onto the metal supports again while holding the dumb bastard from a concrete death. As much as you've come to hate him in the past few minutes you can't just let him splat on the ground.

KF screeches to a halt and cheers for your victory and even Artemis cracks a smile for the first time in what feels like a while. But it doesn't last long. An explosion rocks the underground and smoke billows from the spectators booth where GA and Canary were. GA emerges from the smoke and dives out, grappling onto the supports with an arrow and swinging down to the ground. He definitely looks worse for wear.

And you can see why, another obvious leader of the RF gang follows him out, throwing playing cards that stick into the concrete and even slices through the cable of his grapple arrow. He rolls to the ground and nearly sticks the flying bastard with an explosive arrow. You all run to his side and before you can even ask what happened to Canary.

Another one emerges from the smoke, standing on the edge, a figure even larger than Sportsmaster. All shining white. And he's holding the arm of an unconscious Black Canary. He turns his cold gaze to you and you realize your night isn't even close to over.

Alright y'all. I think that was a good session. Good fun! I'll be around for questions but I've got a question for you about the future of the quest. I've been thinking about doing things to make this quest stand out. Make it more interesting than the normal Capeshit fanfiction. SO I was thinking, how off script do you guys wanna go? And by that I mean. How far do you wanna stray from canon? I'm talking big shit like world changing events staying permanent and alternate versions of character being the norm. Let's talk about it. Tell me if you hate it. Love it. Lukewarm about it. I'll be checking on this thread every now and again.

>>2247286
Hey thanks man! And don't speak too soon, I'm still learning.
>>
>>2247312

>>
>>2247316
This. I dig how you're treating canon, the basics are followed without delving into the myriad other bullshit DC can throw out.
>>
>>2247312
I'd be cool with this universe going in a different direction as long as the characters don't changed too dramatically.

I'd also love to have some alternate universe shenanigans with an evil version of Morgan, like his mom died instead of dad and became a brutal assassin in the League of Shadows.

>Hey thanks man! And don't speak too soon, I'm still learning.
The second rule of being a QM, don't push yourself down. You are your own worse critic.and your barbs will sap the life of you.

As for your question, I don't mind it save for one thing. I hate "Superman goes evil." I hated it in injustice, I hated it in Justice Lords, I hate it in general.

Other than that, go on ahead. Just make it stick. Like, if you have Coast City or Bludhaven destroyed. Have actual consequences for that. If a hero identity is uncovered, don't magic it back. Keep going.

P.S

Thank you kindly for using Robotic Ace.

Alright so don't change characters too much and hold things to a vote. Okay! This is pretty much what I was expecting I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't piss off my players.

SO. Let's get a little more specific. What kinds of alternate shit are you guys more open to? Like, certain events going awry or changing the world at large are on the table unless you guys hate that. But I mean smaller stuff. Like, alternate versions of certain characters. I don't have anything specific in mind yet but I'm just throwing it out there. I already know not to throw in shit like Gun toting Batman so I'm clear on changing the BIG characters.

>>2247367
>Also run more than once a week faggot ;)
I want to but I still need money and an education and shit!

>>2247436
I feel you on no evil Supes. That shit is overdone and trite as hell. Not happening here. Although, I have to say that I'm cool with it in Injustice since that's just a vehicle for a (really good) fighting game. And at least he didn't go full retard in the justice lords storyline. Injustice Clark has his head so far up his own ass it exists in a pocket dimension.

>Like, if you have Coast City or Bludhaven destroyed. Have actual consequences for that. If a hero identity is uncovered, don't magic it back. Keep going.
That's exactly the kinda shit I mean. Good to know you're all for it.

>Thank you kindly for using Robotic Ace.
I'm glad someone else appreciates him.

Also, I thought using little girl Ace might get weird fast. I've seen players adopt downtrodden child characters at the speed of fucking light.
>>
>>2247452
I'm okay with this being a tried and true AU, shit can get a little weird. Certain characters having fates twisted and all that. Also robot Ace is awesome and you should feel awesome for using him.
>>
>>2247452
Yeah I'm more than alright with you making the world your own, alternate versions of characters and large world changing events are a-okay with me.
>>
>>2247452
Injustice 1-2 Stupor Man is a joke and is just a pity copout for the latest gary stu craze whatever artist and writer is focused on him for.

If Morgan can, I'd actually like for him to have just a casual meeting with a superhero that's not overly tense nor comical. Just them seeing each other on or off a job and having an interaction. Like if we randomly met encountered beastboy one day and we just bro-ed it out while talking about how weird it is to change from a solid to a vapor or him from a human to a T-rex.

I used to worry all the time that if you weren't constantly fighting crime it would get boring as hell. But I see that isn't the case. Okay, I'll make more time for time outside of big missions and events and whatnot. I can see why you'd want that. A teenager shouldn't miss out on their social life, eh? especially when the amount of cute girls they know is only rising.

The shining white of the villain's body reflects even in the dark black of the billowing smoke. His huge body completely featureless apart from his empty, cold eyes. Casting their gaze over you and your teammates. The large black ace of spades on his chest tells you this must be Ace. Green Arrow looks far worse for wear, bruises and scratches all over his exposed skin, his dirty blonde hair in disarray. He's been fighting hard against this thing. Whatever it is. Cuz it ain't human. Not with those eyes.

He stands shock still at the edge of the shattered spectators booth. And one last figure emerges from the wreckage. Roulette. She practically waltzes into view, smug smile on her face. And despite the fighting that went on in that booth. She looks fucking pristine. Untouched. Even Ace has a few scorch marks on his ivory frame. But she doesn't have a single dark hair out of place. Adjusting her glasses, she leisurely raises a hand and snaps her fingers.

On cue, like loyal dogs, the flying Royal Flush Gang members stop and hover above everyone, avoiding the rioting metas and focusing their guns on you. Her smug smile grows wider. "I do so love good help. Not so hard to find really, just expensive. But I've had more than sufficient funds lately, and you're trying to ruin that." Waving a hand, she walks back into the destroyed booth. "Just die already."

Your thoughts race looking for something to do to hold off the refocused Gangers, but you can't find a damn thing. Gritting your teeth, you almost miss Green Arrow shoot the arrow he's had nocked since he landed on the floor a minute ago. The arrow flies and explodes in the air, in the center of the flying goons. It pops and white fills your vision. Good ol' flash arrow. "Ghost! You and Kid Flash help Canary and get the controls for the suppressor collars from the greedy witch. We need a lot more folks on our side if were gonna walk away form this!"

You and KF take one look at each other and he takes off, a yellow blur yet again. And you grapnel onto a piece of twisted metal inside the booth and fly up. Flying past Ace he attempts to clothesline you mid-flight but finds only empty air as his massive arm flies through your body. Despite the speed at which he took a swing at you, he almost lazily turns to face you and KF who blurs to your side shortly after you land.

To your backs is Roulette, sitting in a large chair that looks more expensive than the house you live in. One tattooed leg draped over the other. Drink in one hand. In other words, she's not worried about shit.

But you are.

KF is ready to go, shadow boxing at high speeds. "Okay man, how do you wanna play this?"

>"Focus on Ace, he's the only one trying to kill us right now."

"I'll worry about Ace, you take care of Roulette. The faster we free those metas, the better."

"On it." KF turns to face the lounging villain and you hear the usual whoosh of his speed. Followed only by a red flash in the corner of your vision. You turn your head on instinct, just long enough for the giant to spring into action. He swings his tree trunk of an arm left and right. And you bob and weave through his enormous reach and stay just within his radius. He does all of this without letting go of Canary.

You nearly forget yourself for the barest moment when he brings that fist to bare down upon your head. Standing still, you let his swing pass through you and begin your counterattack! Hardening your arms, you throw punch after punch, stick and move, right into his ribcage. They're solid blows, ones that would make even someone like Sportsmaster think twice while wearing armor but Ace just doesn't seem to give a shit.

You have to disperse when he quickly chops a hand at your neck and let him pass through you again to avoid decapitation. So you reassert your body and let him have it again. But it's the same story. Bodyshots don't seem to faze him and you slam your right fist into the side of his face and for the first time, you hurt your knuckles while they're hardened. This ain't right. You'd expect Superman to be this tough but what the fuck is this guy made of?

And from what you can hear behind you, KF isn't having a much easier time with Roulette. But you can't turn away from this guy for a second, now that you've seen how strong he is. You know he's just holding Canary hostage. While she's unconscious he could just break her in half whenever he wanted. And you're not about to let that happen.

Your eyes drift to Canary, Dinah, being dragged around by this thing. And you can't let this go on any longer. Especially if you're gonna make any headway in this fight. You hear someone get zapped behind you and a slightly smoking Kid Flash slides to your side but bounces back pretty quickly. His costume is torn in a couple places, and he looks exhausted. Honestly, you're not doing much better. "You still good to go?"

"Oh yeah, I still rolling at full capacity here man, just need to find a way in..."

"How about helping me out first, I have an idea." You draw your grapnel and jerk a thumb towards Ace's head. "You wanna help me hogtie the sonuvabitch?"

KF just grins and nods, keeping his eyes on Roulette. Alright, then, keep her steady, wait for it... Ace observes the both of you with his empty eyes and seems to finally decide that he needs to get rid of you. Now! Flipping a switch on your grapnel, you fire but only next to his head and allow the arms to catch the exposed metal beam behind him. Ace doesn't waste anytime and barrels down on you, but neither does KF.

He runs past and you pass of the grapnel to him as he becomes a yellow blur around Ace, giving him pause for just long enough. KF screeches to a halt, handing you back the grapnel. Wrapped tightly around Ace's neck. And strangely enough, he isn't reacting the way you'd expect someone to but you can feel the tension in the cable squeezing down his neck after you flip the switch back, reeling in the cable. He tries hard to get it off but can't seem to hack it with one arm.

Just like you hoped. The moment he let's go of Canary KF rushes in and takes her to the side. Your bet payed off. But he's not done. With the cable off you can see cracks in his neck, this guy really ain't human. And Roulette is still behind you, KF returns and is at your back in short order.

>Same as before. You'll face down Ace while KF gets those controls.
>Switch off, maybe you'll have better luck with Roulette.
>"You got anything that'll bust that thing's armor?"

"KF, switch off with me. Maybe we'll get results." You raise a hand and he slaps it. changing positions with you.

"Alright man, now be careful. She's got some kind of shield." And true enough, you turn to face to the villain and she's got some sort of blood red aura around her. Smug smile still intact.

She steps towards you at her same leisurely pace and feigns a yawn. "I'm not sure what you think you can bring against me, boy. You're friend enjoys powers beyond even yours and he couldn't touch me. What makes you think you'll do any better?"

Dispersing and reasserting yourself in front of her, you trow your coat open and reveal the stun baton that you grabbed earlier. Her brow goes up just a fraction. "I stole this."

And you jab you her shield! Red energy crackles and pops when the prongs make contact with her shield. making you glad once again you insisted on the goggles when choosing your gear. You can feel the stick pushing through, almost like you're- "You're not breaking through that easily." Roulette grabs your wrist and squeezes, displaying honestly shocking strength for someone her size. "I payed far too much for this."

Kicking you in the gut, she sends you stumbling back and to one knee. Damn, it seemed like it working too. You need to find a way past that shield and KF is more than busy. You're on your own, Barrett.

Roulette, let's the baton drop to the floor and smashes the length of the thing with a single stomp. "Come now, Grey Ghost was it? I'd like to pay you back for slowing down my business."

>Ace and Roulette are standing in your way. One is very strong and can't be damaged easily, the other has the controls you need and a shield that is very difficult to penetrate. How do you attack?
>>
>>2253391
Simple make the big guy punch her. Old strategy of the strongest spear meeting the strongest shield. Work with speedter to position Ace and we try to bait roullete so she gets a fist full of super strength on her face.

Supporting.
>>
>>2253412
Might as well try it, our only other option is to throw shit at her.
>>
>>2253418
Think like this speedy is fast enough to kite ace and we can use our fog form to stop Roulette from noticing the fist comming in her way.
>>
>>2253412
supporting this, but also pointing out a strategy to try later if this fails.

Could be a reactionary shield. Pushes back as hard as something pushing against it. Maybe we could just walk through
>>
>>2253446
Maybe but if it's like what you said this could easily incapacitate one of our enemies It depends if Ace punch is so strong that the device producing/keeping the shield on her just burns due to the amount of stress done to it. Or could break Ace's arm

So win-win scenario. Let's hope we roll good and it isn't something to hard to do.

Backing away from Roulette, the reality of this isn't lost on you. You can't get past her shield on your own. And Ace is too durable and strong to take head on. At least, with just KF and you here by yourselves. Ace has got an offense that you can't match. And Roulette has a defense that you can't overcome, it's- it gives you an idea.

"Hey, KF" The yellow clad sidekick shows up in the blink of an eye. Clearly run ragged.

"Yeah man?" He's not even trying to crack a joke now. You're in the shit. "I hope you're about to whisper some amazing plan to me that'll save the day."

"Actually..." You explain the principle of it to him, and he seems to like it.

"Unstoppable force meets immovable object. It's good. But dangerous, man. You sure?"

"What else have we got? Those metas are sitting ducks and Artemis and GA will run out of arrows eventually. "

"Good point. Well, I'm ready when you are ghost. Do your thing." He zooms off, determined look in his eye. And you turn back to Roulette, who's watching all this like it's some sunday night tv. She's got some pain comin' her way. You start with a move that's been growing on you. Firing your grapnel and hitting the wall behind you you harden your legs and fly into your shield hitting the thing full force.

But it's just not enough, after a couple seconds the field forces you off and you move in quick with moves that haven't failed you yet. But every quick jab, roundhouse, and uppercut barely affects the shield itself. And it seems Roulette is done being patient. She catches your fist, smashing her arm into the crook of your elbow and bringing you to your knees again. Twisting your right arm. "I'll give you this boy, you are determined. Dogged even. Don't take this too harshly, your chaperones didn't fair much better. I wonder if the Canary is dead yet. Maybe I'll put her back in a cage if she's still breathing when this is all over."

Gritting your teeth, you try and see past the pain, past your anger, remember your training. "You say that like you couldn't lose."

She laughs at that. "Look around you, look at where you are right now. Does this look like me losing?"

You barely have to turn your head to see KF has been leading Ace closer and closer over inches for the past minute. He takes another swing. "No. But that does."

Roullete whips around to follow your gaze but it's too late! Ace's arm crashes against her shield in a loud pop, nearly making you wanna cover your ears. Her shocked face eventually turns to anger as Ace's arm explodes, leaving a smoking hole in his torso where it used to be. But he doesn't seem to care. Circuits and black twisted metal hangs from his stump. A robot, of fucking course. You should've known.

And Roulette's shield remains. KF falls to one knee, breathing hard. Can't say you blame him, you haven't got much in you after that either. "You know, I have to give you an A for effort on that one boys. But your little gambit didn't work out." She struts int front of you, putting a heeled shoes over your shoulder, dangerously close to your neck. "You've gotta remember the rules when in vegas. And there's only one, really. The most important one."

"The house always wins." The robot intones.

But you've got one more card up your sleeve.

You had another thought, as soon as Ace busted it's arm on the shield. Maybe it's reactive? Maybe it has an output based on the input data of the attack. It pushes back as hard as it's pushed. That would make sense given all of the attacks you've tried thus far. So all you need to do. Is walk into her shield. And take what you need.

Standing, you disperse quickly and fly past Ace, reasserting yourself directly in front of Roulette. You grab her in Ted's unbeatable choke hold, and close your eyes in case you were wrong. But you weren't, your hardened limbs slip around her neck like a noose and stay there. Ace, stares on at you while Kid Flash seems amazed that you weren't disintegrated the moment you stepped completely into her field.

But the victory is short lived. With only a laugh, Roulette thumbs something on her wrist and that same pain you felt when she zapped you with that huge weapon earlier hits you again. Flying back, you land on the remains of her desk in a heap.

That- that could've worked. Should've worked. What didn't you see? Roulette shows up in the corner of your vision and looks down on you with something approaching disgust. "This game of ours really has been fun, truly. But If the game lasts too long it loses it's magic. Ace." She snaps her fingers and the robot obediently lumbers over you and picks you up by the throat.

You don't even have it in you to disperse through his grasp. KF is just trying to stand, to do something. But you've both got nothin' left. Ace tightens it's grasp on you, but stops. A metallic thud sounds out and even Roulette looks lost for once, Ace turns around and you see a trick arrow lodged in the back of it's head. A familiar one at that. It activates with a hiss and frost begins to spread across Ace's shiny white chassis, the sound of groaning metal grows louder,. It tries to tighten it's grip once more but it's too late.

White vapor pours from the hole in it's torso. Ace has been frozen from the inside. Artemis and GA swing into the room, on grapple lines and both point an arrow at Roulette, who still sin't concerned. "Go on, shoot all you like. I'll just wait until you're out of arrows."

GA just cocks an eyebrow at her. "Oh, we're not here to shoot. Just to distract you long enough."

Wait- where's Canary? "How about I sing a song for you instead?" Roulette's eyes go wide and you see her panic for the first time. And you have to admit, it's sweet. Canary leaps from the metal beams in the ceiling and draws a deep breath. And everyone covers their ears. You all know what's coming.

Woooo! We’re back!

....oh no...
>>

The Canary cry is unlike anything you've ever heard or probably will ever hear, honestly. It hurts even through the palms of your hands and the ear pieces of your goggles. The ear piercing screech tears the room apart even further and Roulette's shield simply isn't enough to defend agains the full force of the sonic attack. In other words. She's fucked.

Then she finally falls, and as soon as her consciousness fades, so does her shield. And Canary nearly passes out again when she's done. But GA catches her. "Hey now, how'd such a pretty bird get such a strong singin' voice?"

She smiles, as if we all almost didn't almost die half a minute ago. "Runs in the family."

Ech. Speaking of mortal danger. You harden an elbow and smash it into Ace's now brittle forearm and smash the other one. Freeing yourself. Shakily at first, you walk over to Artemis and KF. All the three of you can do is exchange a nod as you look over into the main arena. There's gotta be a few dozen Gangers down there? And they're all down and out. One way or another.

Canary scoops up Roulette's bracelet as she cuffs her and fiddles with it, and sure enough. The collars on the metas come off. Son of a bitch. Hidden in plain sight. She pockets it, a grim look on her face. "The League will want to analyze this. There's even more to this, I know it."

And you can't help but agree. Just where in the hell did Roulette get this tech? Can't be HIVE. They woulda used shit this potent on you when you broke into their little base. Guess it's a question for later, rather than now. For now, the metas our free, some using their powers to leave right now. Fire flies off in a green blaze. But not before blowing a fiery kiss to... you're not sure. KF acts like it couldn't of been anyone but him and GA pretends to not have notice. You can see why when you notice the look on Dinah's face.

You've won.

After handing Roulette and Sportsmaster over to the Vegas authorities, you all piled back into Oliver's jet. Except for KF. "Naw, I'll be back in Central before you guys pass over the desert. " Is what he said. But he did Also say he'll come and visit Gotham when he's got time. And you're looking forward to it. KF seems great and you're honestly curious why he didn't wanna be on the Titans.

It's a bit of a long ride back though. And it leaves you alone with your thoughts far too easily. You missed something. You risked your life and you missed something. You could be dead right now. Or you could've gotten the metahumans killed. Or Kid Flash. No matter how you slice it. You fucked up tonight.

Artemis is snoring in the chair across from yours. She took a couple bad hits in the fighting with the Royal Flush Gang. Just like you did. But tonight was intense for her. Fighting her dad like that. And you still don't know why She hates him so much. She talks like he was always a bad due but still raised her. But you did get to meet the guy, face to face. He's a killer.

"Morgan?" Dinah comes back from the cockpit, bruised but still smiling. She drapes her leather jacket over Artemis before turning to you. "You okay? I want you to get checked out by Alfred before you go home."

"It's just- I'm thinkin' about what I coulda' done differently. y'know? I messed up back there. And it coulda' went down way worse." And she can't tell it that's not the case.

She takes a seat on the other side of the cabin, taking a moment before saying anything. "Morgan. I want you to consider something. Are you still alive, and well?"

"Well, yeah busted up. But I see your point."

"I'm not done. Are your allies, alive and well?"

"Yes, Dinah. I know what you're saying-

"Did we lose any hostages? Any civilians? Collateral damage?"

"I get it!"

"No, you don't. Listen to me." She leans forward in her seat, eyes squarely on you. "With what we do, we throw ourselves into unpredictable situations on a near daily basis because no one else can. You can't waste time on what ifs, should've dones, could've dones. Examine your weaknesses, know yourself. But don't start to doubt yourself. That, is when you will lose."

She's got a point, a damn fine one, but still. "You won't be there with a Canary Cry every time I'm wrong about something y'know?"

She waves away your argument. "Then work on being wrong less often. Look, Morgan. Bottom line. Our job is to do the impossible. And your already doing it! Just the three of you kids brought down Sportsmaster, he's a thorn in the League's side wherever he goes. Don't focus on your' failures, let them drive you forward."

For a second, you're well and truly speechless. She just slaps down anything you say. "Well, shit Dinah. You're about as difficult to argue with as Artemis."

She laughs, and quickly stifles it as to not wake up the sleeping blonde. "I'll take that as a compliment. And don't forget what I said. You''re going to face similar situations as long as you keep at this life Morgan."

You crack as a smile as you lean back in your chair and close your eyes. Really, she couldn't just let you wallow in self pit eh? Whatever. You know she's right. With what you do, you can't afford self-pity. Ted would just tell you to get back on the horse. So that's what you'll do.

-----

After Alfred treats you for your burns and bruises, and Megan talks at you for an hour you're dropped off back at home promptly by Oliver and Dinah. Seems they're headed back to Star City, and staying there a while. But not before handing over Roulette's tech over to the League for analysis. You don't know who will be doing the analyzing but you hope they have answers for you soon.

Mom opens up when you knock pretty quickly, she was expecting you after all. After cringing through a hug on your bruised torso you say goodnight and excuse yourself. When you fall on your bed it's like you haven't been on it in months. It's just some hand me down mattress but it feels like five fucking stars after what you've been through. Maybe tomorrow will be less eventful?

You doubt it.
