Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: A small ocean-side clearing on Tabo Island

Recently: You had an inner journey into the darker parts of your soul with Jeanine and Gardevoir, and you and Laki have begun a battle with Kat and Robin

Ninetails and Sorbet stare at each other for a moment. Like they aren’t sure what to make of the other. Familiar, but alien. You suppose you’d feel the same way if you saw another human being that was so off from what you know.

Kat and Robin both contain a small reaction thinking it’s cute. Laki’s face though, is one of intense determination. “I can’t believe you picked a battle with champions. You hide it, Soft Hands, but you’re just as ambitious deep down, huh?”

Are you? You explored the parts of yourself that are darker, but would that count? You usuall feel like your ambitions should come last next to making sure everyone else is okay, so in that sense wouldn’t they be in your darker parts? Maybe that’s too pessimistic of a view of yourself. It’s not like you see it as a bad thing for people to have strong desires or dreams. So m-

“Hey, focus! Our advantage here is time. The longer we draw out the battle, the more worn down they get. They only have those two pokemon, so we should focus on weakening and tiring them as much as we can for our last pokemon. I hate to say it, but Bergmite and Sorbet are basically canon fodder here.”

You hate the sound of that, but you guess it is obvious. Sorbet and Bergmite don’t stand a chance of not getting knocked out. “Y-yeah.”

“But it doesn’t mean they can’t contribute. Their role is to give a chance for victory to those that come after. They’re our vanguard, and that’s an honorable role.”

Is she psyching herself up for some sort of sacrificial plan? “Any ideas?”

“Stall and status effects. We’ll figure out a plan as we go, and strike when opportunities come. Bergmite is tough and can take a beating, and Sorbet...” She eyes your snowy pokemon, “I get the feeling she’s got a vicious wild side when she’s pressed. She did demand to be caught, didn’t she?”

“That’s true.” You say. You can’t really argue with her general assessment either. Without knowing what else to do, you make a command. “Bergmite! Hail!”

“Sorbet! Hit the big one with Confuse Ray!”

Bergmite begins working on, but he’s slow here. While he’s doing that, the Ninetails very quickly uses Safeguard, protecting her team from the Confuse Ray. Shortly after, the large dinosaur pokemon lays down Stealth Rocks. They look expertly placed. He might act a bit silly but that Pokemon is very well trained.

“Crap!” Laki clenches her fist. “They’re setting up, preparing for a long fight. That Safeguard is a problem, but it’s something we should use too. I’ll get Sorbet on it.”

That makes sense. You look to Bergmite and think of what commands you should give him. The hail makes him shine a bit, and it makes you almost lose track of Sorbet for a second. Her Snow Cloak ability is no joke!

Ninetails watches her opponents carefully. Nibbles sits and scratches behind his ear, but seems ready to take off on attack as soon as Robin orders it.

>>

I have no idea. I'm just here for the relationships.
>>
>>2249602
I doubt we can actually damage either with that, it's really weak and there's a gigantic level difference.
An ice attack on Nibbles will definitely hurt him, though.
>>
“Ninetails!” Kat commands. “Imprison.”

The Ninetails very quickly and professionally performs the move. Wait, what does that move do again?

“URGH!” Laki grunts. “Why is she so annoying to battle! That throws off my entire strategy! Now we can’t use any moves that Ninetails knows, and I bet it knows a lot.”

Oh jeez, that is worrying. On the plus side, you doubt that the opposing Fire pokemon knows ice moves, or many of the same moves as Bergmite. Still, Laki must feel very trapped.

“Nibbles!” Robin yells out. The Pokemon shoots back up to attention and looks at Kat.

“Don’t look at me.” Kat laughs. “She’s the one commanding you right now.”

Nibbles grunts his understanding.

“Nibbles.” Robin repeats. “Dragon Tail!”

“Sorbet! Uhmm, Aurora Beam!” Laki snaps her fingers before she remembers what other moves she has available. She was planning on using Safeguard, so now she’s thrown off.

The beam hits the incoming Tyrantrum, and it’s super effective, but he doesn’t slow in the slightest. He looks mildly annoyed more than seriously threatened.

“Ah! Bergmite! Rapid Spin!” You yell out, feeling the ground shake as the huge pokemon comes stomping at you. You’re left with no choice but to target him, since he’s so much closer than the far away Ninetails.

Bergmite does well under pressure, spinning quickly at his target and bouncing off to each Stealth Rock, blowing them out of the air without worry. He flies off of the last Stealth Rock he removes and lands back near his opponent. You brace for Bergmite to get hit by that tail. Instead though, Sorbet is struck.

“Crap!” Laki says, retrieving the flying and somehow still conscious Sorbet with a pokeball. You notice a small, subtle wave of purple energy follow in the attack’s wake and flush over Laki.

“Robin!” Kat says. “I just used Imprison!”

“I-I was aiming for Bergmite.” Robin said. “That Vulpix jumped out. A-and I don't have the same connection to Nibbles as you, so we couldn't course-correct quickly.”

Kat pauses and calms down, holding her chin. “I see. Looks like we’re going too easy on you two.”

They are?

“Smart thinking.” Laki says, complimenting the pokemon Sorbet is now it. ”She knew that Imprison handicapped her. I didn’t think she’d think and act so quickly. And since your pokemon are all out, the aftereffect of activating a pokeball won’t work. I get to choose whose next.”

You wonder if Sorbet was really thinking of the battle, or just using it as a way to run away from a scary fight. Or maybe your bad luck is just infectious. But either way you don’t have time to worry about that.

Laki points and commands mace out onto the battlefield, to Bella’s disappointment.

Bergmite is staring up at the huge Tyrantrum hanging over him. He keeps a determined look but is clearly nervous. Mace looks unpleased with the cold Hail. The Ninetails isn’t showing how bothered it is from Hail, but gives off a really cool looking steam as it strikes her.

“Mace has the mobility to get around that Tyrantrum and go for Ninetails.” She says. “When the Safeguard wears off, I’ll use Bella and Toxic.”

“Right.” You respond, keeping your eyes on Nibble’s fangs as he sizes up Bergmite. The poor Ice Pokemon looks like a bite-sized snack.

“Mace! Headbutt!” Laki commands. “Do whatever it takes to close the gap.”

“Ninetails, target that...” Kat’s voice trails off as Mace rockets around Tyrantrum and towards the Fire pokemon. “Well, that’s neat.”

“Kat!” Robin snaps her out of it as the Rocket-Roggenrola closes the distance uncomfortably fast.

“Right. Ninetails! We aren’t sure what we’re dealing with. Protect!”

But Mace increases his speed at the last second, getting himself within the protective bubble at the last split second. He slams into Ninetails, who then smacks into the back of the Protect bubble. It’s not a critical hit, but boy did that make a satisfying sound.

Robin looks concerned but quickly gets her focus back. “Nibbles! Fire Fang that Bergmite! R-remember that it’s a pokemon though, okay?”

Nibble’s is very preoccupied with watching the flying pokemon that zoomed around it. Without taking his eyes off of it, he leans down to bite Bergmite with sudden vicious speed. As he comes up, he crunches what’s in his mouth with a fiery jaw. Bergmite squeals under the pressure. It’s so powerful! The teeth look like they got into a particularly weak spot, too! He gets into it and shakes the poor Ice pokemon like a doll. Nothing could withstand that.

You cringe from the sound and steam, and prepare to call it back, but see that he’s still conscious somehow. Sturdy! You forgot about Sturdy!

“Bergmite! Now’s your chance! Icy Wind!”

Bergmite opens its eyes and summons a freezing breeze. It’s super-effective against Nibbles, making him drop the little ice cube. You suspect Nibbles is more surprise than really hurt though. It’s going to take a lot to bring him down.

Ninetails shakes its head from the ringing sound it probably hears and focuses on Mace, but the Icy Wind strikes it in the side as well. Yes! It’s weak in terms of damage, but you can see the hair stand up on Ninetails and soggy melted ice around it’s paws. That’ll slow it down. If only it weren’t a Fire type, though.

“Alright. We definitely underestimated you guys.” Kat says, leaning forward a little bit. There’s something about her sharp eyes that makes it feel like she’s focusing for the first time. “Sorry Ninetails. I won’t play around anymore.”

“You heard them, Nibbles.” Robin follows up. She then yells something to it that you can’t quite hear. It sounds like Robin came up with a plan. Kat nods in satisfaction.

Nibbles sneezes. He’s suffered a loss of speed. You’re unsure if that means Bergmite can get another attack in before being dealt with.

I suggest that we call out Wailord for the next pokemon, Ninetales is weak to Rock and Water. It has a naturally higher Sp.Defense so I'm unsure if going for Water Pulse, a special move, or Rollout, a rock move, would be better. Otherwise all of Laki's pokemon deal normal or resisted damage types against Nibbles and Ninetales.

“Rock Blast!” Laki yells to Mace. He spins towards Ninetails to get a better angle of attack. Rocks pelt the Fire pokemon in the back. It’s ability to take super effective hits is really impressive, if disheartening.

You snap out of it and remember what Laki said. You’ve got to stall! “Bergmite! Use Reco-”

“Ninetails! Get away from that Rock pokemon! Quick Attack Bergmite!”

Ninetails zooms so quickly that it almost seems like teleporting. These are some high level pokemon! Bergmite is struck and put down firmly in an instant from a swift smack. Ninetails quickly leaps off, like it just dealt with an afterthought.

Nibbles is already stomping off after Mace. The flying rock manages to keep himself in the air for the most part, but is already slowing down from his tiredness and the the hail winds. He could probably use a breather, but won’t get one right now. Not with that huge pokemon chasing him.

“Dragon Claw! To your left!” Robin shouts. Her one eye looks a little more open than the other for some reason.

Nibbles complies, slashing at his left. He starts the attack before Mace dodges that way, but catches him by the time his swing comes down. Mace smacks into the ground but recovers quickly and thrusts away before being caught. It wasn’t an impressive amount of power or grace, but the attack did land and did hurt.

“You did a good job.” You recall Bergmite.

“Yeah.” Laki says, keeping her eyes forward, trying not to get too distracted. “The hail should be stopping soon. Mace is slowing down. When they catch him, I’ll send out Bella. Keep that in mind for your pick.”

Rather than try to dictate who you should select, she’s just informing you of what she intends and trusting you to figure out the best way to support that. You like that she has faith in you, but also worry that you won’t live up to it.

“Chatot! Go!” You say, throwing out the pokeball for Laki’s pokemon. She usually doesn’t keep it in pokeballs when you make camp, but she must have put it away when going off with Vance.

“Yeah! Good fighting, Laki!” He yells from the sidelines. His big arm flexes as he strikes an enthusiastic pose.

Jane has her arms folded, looking over the battlefield carefully. She doesn’t want to miss a detail.

Hana joins Valerie and Abigail. She looked like she didn’t care too much about watching the fight, but you guess she’s getting a little interested, even if it’s for lack of anything better to do.

“Kick their butts!” Clair yells out to you.

“Clair!” Robin shouts back.
Clair sticks her tongue out.

“They’re as mature as Abigail.” Laki says quietly to you, smiling. “Alright Mace! Chatot! Let’s do this!”

Nibbles stomps after Mace. For a big and slow pokemon he still manages to clear a lot of ground. You were hoping that the layer of snow on the ground would make him more cautious of where he steps and slow down a little, but he just stomps anything he comes across without paying it attention.

“No Earthquake.” Kat says, disappointed. “Dang. Guess we’ll have to take them out the other way.”

“Right!” Robin says.

You don’t like whatever it is they’re talking about.

Laki elbows you. The Safeguard is failing. If you time it right, you can get a status move in just as it fades and before they can renew it. That would likely mean acting after they attack, though.

“Kat, are you feeling okay?” Robin looks at her.

Kat, who was looking over at Valerie for some reason, shakes her head. “Just a little distracted. Ninetails! Umm, Double Team it up!”

Ninetails seems to misunderstand the command. Instead of using the move Double Team, it chases after Mace, trying to double team it with Nibbles. Instead of helping though, it gets in Nibble’s way and prevents him from cornering the poor Roggenrola. Mace manages to slip away.

“Now! Chatter!” You point to Ninetails. You’ve got to make sure you hit it quickly.

Chatot looks confused though. Laki sighs and whispers into your ear.

“Oh. Right. Chatot! Beer Money!”

Chatot immediately follows it’s orders and attacks with the voice move. It washes over Ninetails! And good timing too! The echo reaches it as Safeguard wears off. It’s unclear if it’s confused, but you think, or at least hope so.

“Beer money?” Robin falls out of her battling pose and looks concerned. “Kat, did you hear that?”

“Yes I did.” Kat looks at Hana. Hana shrinks as Kat tsks at her. It looks more playful and ironic than you think Hana realizes. “But we’re in a battle.” kat looks out as Mace circle’s around for another series of Rock Blast.

Ninetails is finally slowing down from the damage it’s taken. Oh that’s relieving. You were starting to think that they just can’t be hurt.

“Nibbles! Thunder Fang!”

To yours, Laki’s and Chatot’s surprise, the massive dinosaur pokemon manages to leap high enough to snap Chatot out of the air. The poor bird is bitten with electric teeth and tossed aside, out.

“Chatot!” Laki yells. She quickly calms herself down as you recall it. “Their power is insane! That wasn’t even a clean hit!”

“Pretty brutal.” Kat comments. "They're just kids, Robin."

“Sorry! I thought we weren’t holding back anymore! I-I thought if it got a chance to use a plan it could be a lot of trouble so-”

Kat rolls her eyes and puts an arm around Robin. “You’re still too easy to tease after all these years. That was the right call.”

Robin turns slightly red at the contact as Kat gets just a little more snug.

“Hana is starting to make a lot more sense.” Laki whispers to you.

You’re feeling the pinch now. How can you compete when Nibbles can so easily take out a pokemon? That power just isn’t fair!

Mace slows down some more. He’s running out of stamina from flying around.

Plus, when wailord comes out I want to hit huge surfs and I don’t want to do that while Mace is out. Bella or Dice will resist it.
>>
>>2250559
Meowth can double attack and I think Vlad proved how effective that was. If only it knew Foul Play.
>>
I don't remember the double attack at all from Meowth.

Are people forgetting Bounce? The thing that can paralyze and with Wailord being so large he may very well just hit both the the enemies with a high enough roll. Or how he has water gun and more than likely Water Pulse as well, on top of Ninetales being weak to Rollout.

Buying one round is fine, but then Meowth dies to quite literally any attack from either party unless they somehow manage to critfail at the same time.

Bite's only got a small chance of flinching as well so it's doubtful he'd survive that second round anyway.

I just don't get buying one more turn and praying for Mace to keep up the pace when we could purchase multiple turns with a beefier and more suitable pokemon.

“Meowth! You’re up!” You toss out the pokeball. This is a tense situation. But you can see some confusion in Ninetail’s face after all, so you know that it’s not impossible.

Mewwth poses with a sort of cocky attitude, despite it's scary opponents. It must feel a little cocky since they're both concentrating on Mace.

“Good idea.” Laki says. “Wailord can try to out-strength them when they’re at their weakest. Meowth can be exhausting.”

Kat turns her attention back fully to the fight. “Alright Hana’s friends. Show me your fighting spirit!”

Jane huffs.

“Hit it with Fake Out.” You yell to Meowth, pointing at Nibbles.

Nibbles, to your surprise, has run way back in the field towards Robin and Kat and away from you. It’s in the spot Ninetails was standing.

“The puddle!” Laki says, looking over.

“That’s right!” Kat says on Robin’s behalf. “Good eye.”*

Robin gives Kat a look you don’t quite understand. The same look mom gives Dad when he makes a pun.

“Meowth’s hate getting wet like that.” Robin explains. “Wet fur makes their smell stand out, their body heavier, and their movement more awkward.”

“That’s what I’d expect from champions.” Laki yells back. “Even when you know Fake Out is coming, you lured us in.”

Robin nods modestly, but Kat seems suspicious of how well Laki is reacting. She doesn’t let the look last on her face though. “Ninetails! Sunny Day!”

“Crap.” Laki says. “That can’t be good. Mace! Just hold on there. Catch your breath.” She says. Since Meowth came out and used Fake Out, Mace has only had to worry about Ninetails. He takes a few precious seconds to stop rocketing himself around.

>>

Nah nah nah, if the order's consistent this is something Mace is doing.

Kat, Robin, Laki
>>
As Sunny Day ushers in bright sunlight, you see Ninetails focus on Mace.

“We’ve underestimated that one long enough.” Kat says. “I think I have a good idea of its strength now. Solar Beam!”

Under the sunlight, the beam charges instantly.

“Mace, Tri Attack!” Laki yells after only a second of hesitation.

The beams collide! Mace, at least for the moment, isn’t being blown away. But it’s a struggle. Mace’s objective seems to be just survival, while Ninetails presses on him.

“No choice now but to power through it, Ninetails!” Kat encourages it. “This is exactly why we need to take that one down.” Kat says.

“What do you mean?” You ask.

“Laki’s a natural battler with Mace. Tri Attack isn’t a move I’d ever expect from a Roggenrola, but using it here, this way, that’s inspired. Look at the way the beam is structured and how it spins.”

You look closer. She’s right! It twirls around in a way that makes it penetrate through the more rounded Solar Beam.

“For a beam struggle like this, it’s ideal.” Robin says. “But I believe in you, Ninetails!”

Ninetails is braced on all fours now, struggling. Mace, as exhausted as he is, is putting everything he has into pushing back. He braces his feet in and forces it back.

You wish you could cheer him on, but Meowth needs your attention. If Laki is going to let your pokemon show off his strength, then you owe it to her and Meowth to do the same.

“Meowth! Thunder!” you shout, remembering the trick Laki used against Jane.

Kat and Robin share a knowing look. Did they see it coming? Sunny Day makes it harder to aim! But if they’re on wet ground that helps right?

“Rock Slide!” Robin instructs Nibbles. He begins to open a portal to drop massive rocks. Fortunately Meowth has the speed advantage and Thunder comes crashing down. Meowth tries to escape its own attack by leaping up, but the Rock Slide catches it on it’s escape and knocks it out with a critical hit!

You find solace in seeing the electrical attack hit Nibbles whole Meowth is still in the air, though. Nibbles looks hurt, even if slightly. Not paralyzed, but finally showing more than annoyance after so many super effective attacks, and now this not very effective but still powerful one.

Meowth though, is clearly out from the Rock Slide. What’s worse, the rocks are coming down in a wide path leading towards Mace.

“Keep pushing, Mace!” Laki yells. And Mace does. Your heart swells with pride as he actually manages to get Ninetails on the defensive. He’s winning! Just by a tiny fraction, he’s winning!

But Rockslide reaches him too. They come crashing down around him, throwing him off enough that Solar Beam comes back at him. He’s blown back, coming to a sliding stop near you.

“Mace!” You yell out. But you know he’s knocked clean out. Kat and Robin have their pokemon hold off while you and Laki collect Mace and Meowth. You don’t think it’s a gesture of pity, either.

Ninetails breathes heavily, exhausted, a little shaken from almost losing that power struggle. Nibbles tail swings down hard on the ground, showing that it’s ready to take the next opponents seriously.

“They’re wearing down.” Laki assesses. “But we’re losing pokemon quicker. We need to take the offense soon.”

You hold Wailord’s pokeball. You and Wailord have enjoyed a good relationship since you’ve known it, even if it’s Laki’s pokemon. Maybe that will make the difference here.

I’m not so sure that they’re poorly trained per se. I think Laki just didn’t really get interested in training until much later in her journey than we did, and that’s why our Pokémon have a power edge.

So, it sort of passed by uncommented on earlier, but I wonder what about Valerie was distracting Kat? I've got a couple of theories.

Either Kat was sizing up Hana's bestie 'cause she's protective like that and hadn't had the chance yet, or Kat knows Jason since they're both movers/shakers and she recognized his daughter.

Also, I think Kat will be pleased to know that Hana's group is actually *paying* for their booze, rather than swiping it.

I think a "Wild Herbs" AU would be kind of cool, like an Herb that was risen feral by a community of pokemon, not just Tangela like the girl in the original quest.

>Keira's ritual explanation
My favorite ship still sails these seas. If we never get to do it canonically, having the fertility ritual as a lewdbin would be worth it.
>>

Funny stuff Gobble!

>>2269175
Do you think they'd let Hana/Herb do it together? Or does it not count if nobody gets pregnant?
>>
>>2269180
Hana and Herb have been doing it, anon! Quite loudly, apparently.

I'm guessing you mean Keira? Well, I had joked about becoming a messiah with Keira's help earlier. With the way the fertility ritual is set up then they could shoot for making a little baby one instead. He's got a lot of spiritual power, and that's not an innuendo!

Okay, it's a little bit of innuendo.

It'd probably require more shards to prove we're worthy since we are a mainlander and having a spiritually powerful mainlander/Loanah kid would probably be politically disastrous for the isolationist camp.
>>
>>2269201
I was referring to the ritual.

No babies for Herb anytime soon, and Keira's comment about not knowing whose baby she'd end up with makes me think birth control is banned.

I'm... thinking they'd frown upon it. If he and Hana do it then that's 1-3 less people Herb can be with for baby-making purposes. It probably wouldn't be outlawed, though, since it's still an expression of love and that matters to the Grass temple too.

I mean yeah but it might be more advantageous for larger groups. a fertility ritual that gives the islands a half native, half main lander child coming from a main lander that is as accomplished as herb and as willing to be a part of Loanahn culture without changing it or who he is could be seen as the the answer to lots of groups on both sides.
An example of how things should work, as long as the both sides are willing to accept the other
