/qst/ - Quests

Evening guys! Sorry about last night, I kinda knocked out around... 01, I guess it must have been, and woke up drooling on the desk. haha. At least I got some sleep this weekend, I'm kind of hoping our schedule starts to drop back down to regular-ish hours soon.

Archive here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20Witches%202016

It's not too insane yet, but we all know how that goes haha!

And yes, I'm working on getting new art and title cards, but nothing just yet.

+++++

You think about the witch's question for a moment, walking slightly in front of her down the corridors of the carrier. The skipper has the lights dimmed to 50% at night, which is a nice enough gesture to make, though it makes you feel the tiredness seeping in all the more.

“There's a lot of pressure.” You say, eventually. “But there's a lot of opportunity, too.”

She frowns. “How so?”

“My parent's name opens a lot of doors for me.” You say. “But I'm a child of two legends, so there's incredible pressure to perform.”

“Does that bother you?” She asks. It's a good question.

You mother warned you in one of your few arguments with her to never resent what your parents did- they did what they had to, and asking them to have done less is unreasonable and unfair. You'd gone to bed mad that night, but after thinking about it you'd apologized. She was right, as she usually was- and still is.

Frank did what he did just because he felt like he had to, and your maman- well, she did what she did because she enjoyed it, but she was probably just as critical- if not more- than Frank during the war. Most of what she did will remain classified long after your own children are having children.

[x] Not really.

You shake your head- the pressure, if anything, has always merely motivated you to perform that much more, and like maman said, being mad about won't do anyone any good anyway- least of all, you.

“Not really.” You say. “Only when people get hung up on it.””

“Like we're doing?” Jessie asks.

“No.” You respond. “This is normal. If you're still going on about my parents in a week, we'll have problems.”

She nods. “I'll keep it in mind.”

You don't respond, instead opening the hatch into your bay and finding a witch stripping before getting into bed. Thankfully, it's Ana- who you've seen more than once in more advanced states of undress before, and who will do little more than needle you about it later. She looks up at you as she finishes pulling off her shirt, gives you a nod, and bends over to take off her socks. “What were you two up to?” She asks.

“Not whatever you're thinking.” You respond. “I've got more self control than you do.”

“Hmph.” She grunts- It's a running joke, Anastasia's never really had a long-term boyfriend. “You sure you don't want access to the aft witches quarters? Less risk of getting caught.”

“You worry about you.” You respond, pulling out a chair and starting to take off your boots as Jessie looks back and forth between your half-sister and yourself, not quite sure what she should be doing.

“Y-you two are pretty comfortable around each other, huh?” She asks, hesitantly. You look over at Ana, who's paused in the middle of pulling off her bra. She shrugs and completes the action just as you turn down to pull your boots off and set them on the floor.

“I'm the only son of thirteen kids on the Bishop side.” You respond. “All of my sisters are witches. The day I don't see a girl in her panties is a rare one.”

“But topless?”

1/2
>>
You shrug again. “Ever had to fight for one of four bathrooms in a house with fourteen females?”

She shakes her head, finally stepping into the squad bay and closing the hatch behind her.

“Just be glad I don't sleep naked like the snakes.” Ana supplies, pulling on an old white T-shirt. “There, see? Nothing unusual at all.”

“Uh... “ Jessie says, looking at the two of you. “I- uh. hm.”

You sigh.

“Becc's in the head.” Ana says. “You can go around the corner if you're worried about him staring.”

You shrug, standing up to unzip the top of your flight suit and pull it off, exposing your undershirt- and catching Jessie's immediate attention. You're used to it, by now- witches seem to regard you as a particularly choice piece of meat, most of the time, so her stare barely even registers.

“That storm is coming on pretty strong, wind's already up out on deck.” Anastasia says. “No flight ops tomorrow, bet me.”

“Sucker bet.” You say, standing to walk over to your locker and pull out your hygiene kit.

“So what are you going to do tomorrow? More system work?”

“Probably.” You say, watching Jessie slink around the corner, apparently having gotten her fill of eyecandy at your expense.

“Going to want a hand?”

The redesign fucking sucks. Hey, you know this character with a distinct appearance, and whose style of clothing helps build her character? LET'S MAKE HER A FUCKING SABERFACE IN THE MOST GENERIC "CUTE GIRL" OUTFIT POSSIBLE! FUCK unique designs, let's make Tsukihime's flagship heroine look just like Fate's because that side of the house is printing dosh right now!
Clearly that means nobody cares about Tsukihime! It couldn't POSSIBLY be because Fate got two GOOD anime back to back with Zero and Ufotable's take on UBW! Meanwhile Tsukihime's still stuck with that ABORTION that J.C. Staff put out back in the day, meaning it doesn't have the advantage of an ARMY of mouth-breathing fucking secondaries to gobble up content!
It couldn't POSSIBLY be that Fate/ has vidya spinoffs that are reasonably accessible to casuals and secondaries. Meanwhile Tsukihime has Melty Blood which, while a fucking AWESOME 2d Fighter, is heavily reliant on prior knowledge of Tsukihime in order to follow the plot!
No, clearly the reason Fate is more popular right now, is because Arc isn't a god damn SABERFACE!
>>
>>2252717
And they do it to other girls too!
Hey, you know the tomboyish character whose small number of fans generally consider her coke bottle glasses a charm point? LET'S TAKE AWAY HER COKE BOTTLES AND MAKE HER LESS TOMBOYISH!

>MILFs
Who?
Wendy?
She's just an older woman.
A MILF has kids.
Wendy's so thirsty because she DOESN'T. Meanwhile her niece, the daughter of her sister is gettin' married, her biological clock is tickin' like this, and at this rate she ain't never gettin' married!
>>
What if Morgan's Gnome powers are focused on breeding
>>
>>2253606
>Wendy's so thirsty
i don't think she's thirsty, just lonely. After the war, she stayed near the Bishops, but would have lost the closeness, especially once the Three started having kids. And it's not like she's the type to go out and make new friends.
>>
>>2253631
She went on a date, and Morgan described it as such, with a man roughly half her age.
She's probably lonely too, but she is DEFINITELY thirsty.
>>
>>2253652
Pretty sure she's not looking for sex though, just the emotional aspects. Any sex would be a bonus, not the goal.
>>
>>2253667
True. But it seems she WAS looking for romance. I guess the distinction of EMOTIONALLY thirsty is kinda important here.
>>
>>2253684
Usually I see thirsty refer to physical cravings, but yes, you're right.

As an aside, as much as I like Wendy, it kinda creeps me out to be "romantically entangled" with someone twice our age, youthful appearance or no. But this is 4chan, so I can't say I'm surprised.
>>
>>2253707
She's actually only like 16 years older than us. That's fine right, not exactly normal but not exactly super creepy either.
>>
>>2253606
MILF these days often describes any hot mature women, not just those with kids.

Terminology has shifted with use.

[x] Might as well.

You shrug, noticing Jessie standing just close enough to the end of the racks to occasionally peek around the corner as you pull off your undershirt- she pauses as you do so. “Yeah, we might need the help.” You say.

“Jess, you're drooling, sweetie.” Anastasia calls playfully, causing the raven-haired witch to blush and quickly disappear around the corner of the racks. Your sister laughs quietly at the other witch's antics.

Even Becc freezes as she steps out of the head, staring. “L-laroux. Didn't quite expect to see you-”

You shrug. “I do sleep here, right?”

She nods, staring.

“Well, it's past twenty one, so I figured I should rack out.” You supply, kind of slowly. She nods again, blinking a couple times and shaking her head as if to clear it.

“Do you need the head?”

You nod- you have to shower and shave still- though you're strongly debating sleeping in a shirt, instead of just your ranger panties, if for no other reason than to prevent the witches from acting like starving animals eyeballing a piece of meat. You expect Anastasia is going to have a field day teasing the rest of them as you step past Becc and close the hatch to the head behind you.

The shower is hot, and stays that way- which is a nice feeling. The old water heater at your mother's old plantation home just isn't up to standards anymore, and Elizabeth, your younger sister, takes long, long showers. After the shower you shave and clean up- you've never been the type to want to grow facial hair anyway, even if you never picked up your Dad's fondness for straight razors, preferring a simple disposable.

Stepping out of the head, your towel draped around your shoulders, you find your half-sister the only one still out in the squad bay, sitting at the table reading. She looks up, then gins at you. “They went to bed as soon as you stepped in the head.” She says. “I'm sure they're not sleeping yet.”

You shrug. “Who are you using me to skive off on anyway?” You ask, sitting down at the table across from her.

She shakes her head. “No one. Usually on no flight days, it's just boring for us, since we maintain our weapons all the time anyway and the crews don't usually need help with the strikers. Sometimes I'll head up and act as mom's deckwitch for a day, not that she needs it, but usually I just sit here and play Skyrim or something.”

You nod.

“So what are you going to work on tomorrow?” She asks. “Weapons?”

Actually wanting a dude for his body implies they have actual emotions.

Now that you mention it, a few of Spellcaster's housings had a NES I think, so it does stand to reason that all is still the same.

The Martian came out relatively recently, didn't it?. I wonder how it was different from our version.

All fiction involving mars since WW2 has had to be different, so that's a pretty interesting and complex idea in its entirety.

I'm not sure about the exact date, but presumably she means the special edition which would have just come out this year.

Skyrim is also the ultimate pick up and play game, you can put like 50 hours in the game, go away for 2 weeks and pick it up just by wandering into some new caves.
>>
>>2255002
It's a 360 not a One, so it would be the original Skyrim.
>>
>>2254981
I understand what you're getting at but we are talking about a girl in her late teens - early 20s. Her playing Skyrim is as realistic as it gets. Bad taste, but realistic bad taste

Also, a random thought. Virtually every piece of media creates their world based on the baseline reality, plus a few tweaks on top of it, like magic, a different country or historic period. And since witches and magic are very much a part of "normal" in SWQ setting, expect to see witches in most of the books, movies and games we see in our world.
>>
>>2255010

Ah, in that case then they probably literally only own a couple games for it maybe on the cheap - Skyrim definitely is a good investment of dollars to hours. Some of that other shit, like the Horror games, I'm also having a hard time picturing teenage witches coming off serious military ops wanting to play to relax.

Maybe we should see about everybody chipping in for a PS4 when we go ashore though.
>>

iirc, this was discuss at some point years ago. Some things are the same while some things are different was basically the answer.

Ok guys, voting over, bit of news:

First, the strike eva picture is great, thanks for sharing that.

Second: Rumor at work says we're headed back to the Smithfield plant. That means 12 hour+ days plus weekend work more likely than not. I'm going to try to beg off, but if it comes down, it comes down. We'll try and work something out there- I'm hoping I won't be there nearly as long as I was last time.

Still angling for a full Saturday thread, but we'll see what happens guys. Really sorry if work interferes!

[x] No, we're going to bring the computers online.

You shake your head. “Kim and I talked about it, we're going to bring the computer up.”

“Ooh, that sounds like fun. They say it's semi-sentient?”

You shrug- you're not sure yourself exactly what the fenrir computer is capable of, but you know it's almost equivalent, in computing power, to some of the beefiest conventional supercomputers available today.

It's also usually pointed to being the reason Fenrir crews often end up so close- and with the mental health issues they have. It's part of why being on a wolf team is entirely on a volunteer basis. The sad fact is, even after almost thirty years of advances, the system hasn't gotten much better for people, and the human mind might not have been meant for this kind of thing. Either way, you tend to not worry about it.

You look over at the Xbox hooked to the TV- the TV looks new, the game console looks old. “An Xbox?” You ask, nodding at it. Anastasia nods.

“Yeah. I'm one of the oldest here, and Becc and Kat both love the older consoles like that. Xbox, PS1, that kind of thing. Grew up with them, I guess. We were trying to get an N64 for a while, but they're hard to find, and it's not like we have a lot of down time anyway.”

“And if you're the oldest, they wouldn't remember it as well.” You point out, and she nods.

“That too. I was what, five? When that got released.”

“Around that.” You say, agreeing.

1/2
>>
The two of you sit in silence for a minute, then Anastasia yawns. “Alright, I'm done with the day.” She announces, standing up. “If you want to play something, keep the volume down, otherwise alarm around here is at 04. We don't PT while aboard, but if you want there's a gym a deck down from here, open 24 hours. Pretty close to marine country, but they're ok enough guys.”

You nod, happy about the gym.

“Alright, goodnight bro.” She says, climbing into her rack. “It's nice to get to see you again.” And with that she closes the privacy curtain, leaving you alone.

You're tired but not overly so- you've never needed more than three or four hours of sleep a night to really feel fine, and it's not quite time for bed for you, yet. That said, of course, you could do with the extra sleep- the nap you took earlier wasn't that much, all told, and you do have a trying day ahead of you tomorrow. Bringing the computer up is supposed to take ten hours plus- and all of that requires you to be plugged in.

At the same time, this offers you an excellent period of being alone- you're free to go hit up the gym or anything else you'd want to.

Ok guys, newstime!

I'm going to smithfield tomorrow. That means it's a 12 hour shift, and as such, I cannot call the voting at 19, I won't be home. So voting tomorrow ends at 20, and Saturday is kinda up in the air, since apparently the units *must* ship Sunday. Assuming they have their shit together there (they don't) that means we'll be on an 8 hour Saturday and no Sunday.

I'm not particularly hopeful. I refuse to work Sundays, this isn't the military, they don't pay me enough for that shit, but the thread Saturday may not run as long as I was initially planning, I'm really sorry, guys, and I'll try to make it up to you.

Also, voting over and so on and so forth.

[x] Go see if Stasya is available to talk- you've always gotten along best with her of all your sisters

You decide to go see if Stasya is available- she's always kind of been your favorite sister, and you've always been able to rely on anything she's told you.

Throwing on a pair of shorts and an acceptable T-shirt, you dig your running shoes out of your PT bag and slip them on before stepping out of the squad bay.

You retrace the steps up to her office by memory- it usually only takes you one or two trips to learn where something is, and this ship isn't proving any more difficult than the old coral sea was. Predictably, perhaps, the office door is open, and there's a light on inside.

You've scarcely paused to knock before she looks up from her desk and motions you in. “Morgan.” She greets- part of the reason you and her get along so well is she doesn't waste words, unlike most of the rest of them.

“Evening, Commander.” You respond, and she shakes her head.

“It's after hours, I'm just doing a bit of extra work. It's just Stasya now. What brings you here?”

You shrug. “Haven't seen you in over a year. How have you been?”

She leans back in the chair and exhales, running her hands back through her hair. “Busy.” She responds. “This isn't my first posting with Tabitha, but it's certainly the most difficult.”

“Difficult?” You ask, and she nods.

“This whole mess with Garcia is causing a lot of questions to be asked. Wolves are too expensive to let that kind of stupid error happen with.” She says. “And then there's father and Merlin.”

“What about them?”

“They're coming aboard in Japan for shipboard trials of some new stuff she's designed and prototyped for wyverns.” She says. “Incremental upgrades for existing systems, things she has to show off to our Japanese allies for their wyvern fleet. And Aunt Merlin has expressed interest in meeting you and Kim and seeing how you're getting along with your Fenrir.”

You nod.

“And then there's you.” She says

“Moi?”

“Yes, you.” She responds, sighing. “I'm sure you already know.”

You nod. “Let me guess, the coven is offering to bring the squadron up to establishment?”

“And it just so happens all the witches they're offering to send are all around your age, all are good looking- “

You frown. “Is there even such thing as an ugly witch?” You ask.

Stasya shrugs. “Maybe their spirit.” She responds. “but you know the routine by now.”

You nod.
>>
She sighs again. “Sometimes, I wish I could stand alcohol. It would make things easier.”

You grin at her. “Dat's not de way you are, an you know it.” you say, letting your accent slip some. “I have some o dat tea maman make, though, you wan dat.”

She tilts her head a little at the accent, working to decipher it, then shakes her head. “No, but thank you. I'll be fine.”

You cock an eyebrow. “You sure it's not-”

“It's not my plugs.” She responds, a hair too quickly. “These are fine, I don't need or want the improved units.”

“Lilya has them, doesn't she?”

She shrugs. “I don't know. Dad still has his mark ones, and he's fine.”

You shrug- the subject is a bit of a touchy one with her, and not worth pushing at any rate.

“Besides, Lilya doesn't fly anymore.” She points out. “She hasn't really wanted to ever since ninety one.”

You nod- you've heard about the end of the war, the last flight into Russia to take down Stalin's last 'superweapon'. You've even seen models of it, and a computer generated recreation of the fight- taught to you both on the history channel and in the academy, where your father's dogfights over Tanana, Alaska, Berlin, and Megalith were all used as lesson examples.

Personally, you never thought much of it- a lot of what he did would have been straight suicide for anyone else, and his tactics only work if you're... well, him.

“Still, the new ones incorporate the work they did back east with scorpion.” You point out. “And-”

“Not interested.” She says, shaking her head. “I'm fine enough as is.”

You shrug again, deciding to change the subject. “Maman wants to know when you're going to visit again.” You say.

“I'm not sure. How is she?”
