In the year 1986, crime in America is at an all-time high. Criminals, drugs, and guns flow into the country from everywhere in the world, and the gateway to it all is the coastal paradise, Heat City. On the neon-soaked streets of this beating heart of scum and villany, you can get whatever you want -- if you can pay the price.

You are Johnny the thug, and ever since you agreed to take one small job for the Bratva, your life has gone sideways. One thing led to another as you made enemies of one half of the city's underworld, then the other half. With the help of some new friends -- Alex the enforcer, Nick the thief, and the Yamada family -- you went all-in and led a daring heist on the Triad's skyscraper fortress, Dragon's Nest. It went great until you got shot and fell off the roof, twenty-five stories down.

With luck or fate on your side, and the help of your friends, you survived to tell the tale. But you haven't forgotten that someone out there has been playing games with you, pitting the city's criminal syndicates against each other with you caught in the middle. You're going to find out who it is, and make them pay.

You awake from troubled dreams, vivid flashes of memory from your days in Vietnam. Nothing specific, just a bunch of impressions flowing together. The green of the jungle, the heat of the sun, the smell of gunsmoke. Soldiers running through the huge ferns and dense trees, rifle muzzles flashing as they fired, falling and dying in the mud.

Vietnam was a long time ago now. 17 years. A lot has changed since then. You're not Private Bonehead anymore. After doing five years in prison, you can't even say the war was the worst thing that's ever happened to you. But some things haven't changed. You still see them sometimes. The ones who died. Pierce's eye exploding. Big Joe lying in the dirt. That kid's head splitting open as your finger pulled the trigger. The war might not have broken you, like it did to some. But it still showed you things you wish you'd never seen.

You never heard from any of the survivors again. The men from Dog Company. You had your own troubles keeping you busy, and they didn't look you up, or couldn't find you. And you weren't sure you wanted them to.

It's the same with prison buddies. Trapped and isolated in that little closed-off world, you have to depend on the people around you. The friends you make there become close as brothers. You put your life in their hands every day. And then when it's over, you walk away. Because they remind you too much of that world. And if you're not careful, you might get pulled back in.

You heard a funny story from Zero once. A guy called Baker was released from prison, his sentence over. He made it to the airport to go home, but there was some kind of problem with his ticket. Baker got more and more frustrated until finally he jumped the counter and grabbed the attendant, telling her that he'd better get his ticket or there'd be hell to pay. The police were called, so he left before they arrived, but he forgot his wallet. So he held up a gas station to pay for gas. Almost no time at all after he was released, he was right back in the same prison he left.

Stories like that were all too common. If you're not careful, guys like that can drag you down with them. War buddies are the same.

You push yourself up and sit on the edge of your bed with your bare feet on the carpet. The light from the morning sunrise shines through the blinds. You take a cigarette out of the pack on your nightstand, light it up, and sigh in satisfaction as the smoke smoothes out your rattled nerves. As you enjoy your morning cigarette, you think about:

Thanks to a fan for this graphic

This year your life has gone places you never imagined. You've been thrown into all kinds of crazy situations. But probably the most unexpected thing of all is that somehow you've wound up the center of gravity in the orbit of three attractive, competent, professional, and extremely dangerous women.

Alex has been by your side this whole time, steadfast and supportive. You've depended on her sharp eyes and steady gun-hand ever since this started. Sometimes you wonder just where her dedication comes from. Loyalty? A sense of duty? Or something else? The two of you have grown closer as you've started to open up to each other. But just where are the two of you going with this? You don't even know. But you do remember how she looks when she takes off those sunglasses, and the way her eyes linger on you sometimes before she turns away.

What would life be like with Alex? Would the two of you leave the country, take on mercenary contracts? Or maybe you could convince her to retire together, build that log cabin in Montana you always wanted? Either way, a simpler life with a devoted companion.

Catherine has been relying on you even before half her operation went up in flames. You've saved her life with your own hands on two occasions now. She's brilliant, charming, and sophisticated, and you've seen glimpses the sensitive girl that lies underneath that. If you're reading the signs right, she wants to to be a more significant part of her enterprises. A much more significant part. You remember the way she straightens your tie, pulling it tight, and holds onto it just a little too long as she walks away.

What would life be like with Catherine? You'd be elevated straight to the high life. A world of power and luxury. The two of you could own this city together. You'd be on top of the world. She would be the queen of Heat City, looking down on her subjects, and you right beside her, the faithful right hand carrying out her will. So you wouldn't even have to stop punching people.

Roxie is pretty clearly interested, and although a certain part of your anatomy returns the interest, your brain is more dubious of getting involved with her in that way. It might be great fun, sure. She appeals to your most basic primal instincts, the part of you that just wants to fight and fuck. But that's the problem. If you let Roxie in, what might she incite you to do? Sometimes you wonder just how far you would go without any limits. Being with Roxie might show you. The idea is thrilling and terrifying. You remember the way her face lights up when she get excited.

What would life be like with Roxie? A chaotic maelstrom of drugs and drinking, fighting and driving. Riding the edge until you both spun out of control and crashed in a blaze of glory. Or maybe somehow you'd convince her to settle down, help you open a boxing gym or something? Unlikely but possible.

You don't know just what their feelings for you are, just how they think of you or what they want from you. But you're definitely something to them. They each want you on their side, whatever that means to them.

And they don't always get along.

You're all on the same side right now, but that might change someday. Alliances are fragile things in this life.

If push came to shove, and you had to choose between them--

No. You're not at the point where you can be making a decision like that. Are you? For fuck's sake. You never imagined a girl would think about you that way. And here you are caught in the middle between three of them. That is, if they really do think about you that way, which isn't certain at all.

Aaargh! Dealing with half the city wanting to kill you is easier than this.

>>2249992
>>2250146

All right, enough of this. Got to keep your head in the game. It's time to figure out what your next job is going to be. After knocking over that paddleboat casino last week, Roxie's financial situation should have stabilized, and you've given the Russians something to deal with that should put a dent in their ambitions for their city takeover. A good opportunity to turn your attention back to the Triads and finish them off for good before they track you down. They aren't going to forgive you anytime soon for that whole thing where you stole millions of dollars from their most secure vault and ruined half their drug operations in the city.

If you give them time to rebuild and find you, you're dead meat. So you've got to stay on the offensive. Keep them off-balance. Wait for the perfect moment to break them.

What then?

Well, you'll just have to crush the Yakuza, the Russians, Black Spear, and anyone who fucks with you in the meantime.

For now, you think, you should focus on what's in front of you. You'll give Catherine a call and discuss your current intel situation, figure out what's next.

Your stomach growls, reminding you that you need breakfast. You stub out your cigarette, stand up with a yawn and a stretch, then head out of your bedroom and towards the kitchen, wondering where that loud music is coming from.

Soundtrack: Hard Cover - I Bet She Does It Like She Dances
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlyjdDsldOE

Roxie is in the kitchen, dividing her attention between stirring a huge pan of scrambled eggs and dancing to the funk tunes blasting on the boombox. She shakes her hips in rhythm and sings along to the radio while turning the spatula around in the pan. She turns her back and you realize she's dressed in an apron, underwear, and not much else. You get a clear view of her tattoos, her scars, and her finely toned posterior.

You're confused for a moment at what Roxie's doing here before you remember that she lives with you now. The memory returns, her stitching your wounds after the slaughterhouse dust-up, awkwardly circling the subject before working up her confidence and declaring that she would crash here. She fucked off for a few days after getting the money from the paddleboat job, but apparently now she's back. And making herself at home.

Roxie sees you and smiles brightly. "Hey, cowboy! Rise and shine! Take a seat, breakfast is on the way. How do you want your eggs? Haha, trick question, I only know how to make scrambled."

>Thanks.

"You're still probably a better chef than the twins," you say, sitting down at the kitchen table. "Thanks. Appreciate it."

"Want anything to drink?" Roxie asks. "Coffee? Beer?"

"I'm working today," you say. "So both." You watch as she swishes her way to the coffee maker in time with the music. "I like this look for you."

"Yeah?" She grins and gives her apron skirt a little curtsey.

"Yeah. The "sexy housewife." That's you all over."

Roxie snorts with laughter. "Yeah, I'm super domestic, huh? Some of my roommates have been like, wahhhh, Roxie, put on clothes! I don't give a fuck. I'm glad you like it. I thought you might," she adds with a wink.

You're confused about whether she's trying to seduce you or really just doesn't care about modesty. Who knows with her? Either way, she doesn't seem to mind you taking in the view. The curves of her athletic body are truly breathtaking.

Roxie gets the fresh pot from the coffeemaker and pours you a big mug of steaming black coffee, then takes a glass bottle of cold beer from the fridge and pops the top. She plonks both of the beverages down on the table in front of you, then scoops a giant pile of scrambled eggs out of the pan onto a white plate and places that down for you too.

"This is fantastic," you say, looking at your morning meal. "If I'd known you were gonna do this, I would've let you move in on day one."

Roxie plops the rest of the eggs down into a second plate and sits down across from you. "The good old days, escaping from fucked-up underground drug laboratories."

"Strange way to meet someone," you admit, thinking of the first time you ever laid eyes on Roxie. She was the first thing you saw after you woke up, tied to a table and barely alive after falling from the Dragon's Nest. If she hadn't helped you escape, you probably would've ended up as the Triads' guinea pig for advanced Z refinement techniques until your organs exploded.

"So when you asked to move in," you say, moving on from those disturbing memories. "You said you had some kinda financial situation going on. How is that now? The cash from the paddleboat job help you clear that up?"

"Mmhmm." Roxie nods with a mouthful of eggs, swallows and says, "I got in touch with 'em last night. Gonna meet 'em tonight, get that sorted out."

"You need any backup?"

"Nah, it's fine." She waves dismissively. "I got this. You concentrate on the big stuff." She shovels the rest of the eggs into her mouth, eating the entire plateful in almost no time at all. She lets out a belch and stands up. "All right, I got shit to do. I'll see you later, cowboy." She pulls on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt she left lying on the living room couch -- did she sleep there? -- ties up her boots, and heads out the front door.

You start thinking about planning your own day. You head down the home gym you just recently upgraded with a full set of free weights and some machines, and start to work up a decent sweat pumping iron while you think it over. It feels good to push your strength to the limit like this.

At some point you need to talk to Cat and start planning the next hit on the Triads. You can probably take care of one or two other things today first.

Choose 1 or 2:
>Go shopping for guns. You can never have too many guns.
>Go shopping for clothes. It's the 1980s, and a man needs style.
>Go shopping for home improvement stuff. The manor still needs work.

Even though your leg has been healed for a while now, the twins still insist on driving. You have a hard time refusing them under the best of circumstances, and when they make cute pouty faces it's basically impossible. So you sit in the backseat of your Lincoln looking out the window as the car heads northeast into the ghettos of Havanatown, and listen to the twins chatter.

"This guy was like, you kids aren't supposed to be in here--" "So we knocked him down--" "Took his wallet?" "And his gun." "Then we were like, yo, dude, you better tell us where the stuff is--" "Except that's right when his friends showed up--" "We disappeared real fast." "But we left them a little surprise." They giggle.

"I don't suppose you two have thought any more about adopting a more respectable line of work?" you ask. "Something safer?"

"No," they both answer at once.

"I didn't think so," you say, sighing. "All right, well if you're going to be in this life, then you're going to need to know someone like Edna. You guys remember her, right? Make sure you're on your best behavior. You want to be in the good books with the person you get your guns from. That and she's a nice old lady. Since you two have been good, I'm gonna get you each a present, okay?"

"You mean--?" The twins turn around in their seats in excitement.

"Yep. It's time each of you had your own guns."

"Cool!" "Still prefer the old fashioned way--" "A baseball bat--" "A crowbar--" "But we still need guns--" "In case shit gets real."

"Exactly," you say. "I'm the same way. There's something real satisfying about doing it up close and personal. But the important thing is coming out the other side alive, and sometimes for that you need guns."

The car pulls up in front of Edna's place, a dilapidated old house surrounded by an overgrown yard filled with derelict machinery and a hundred half-feral cats. You look over the list you scratched out beforehand of everything you already own down in the armory, trying to remember if you forgot anything.

>Remind me of any weapons we own that I forgot here:

Melee: Baseball Bat, Viking Axe
Pistol: M1911, Ruger Redhawk

Maybe small 2mm pinfire pepperbox guns for the twins because I assume at some point they'll have the chance to shoot a guys eye full of needles.

KS-23 shotgun. Four gauge pump action shotgun with a barrel made from repurposed 23mm anti-aircraft guns.

A pair of Mauser c96's for the twins so they can learn how to fire pistols and have fun with them. Bonus points if Edna has Shanxi Type 17's instead. Those fire .45 ACP.
>>
>>2250811
We also have:
Hunting Rifle: Ruger Mini-14
Utility: Concussive grenades

Edna welcomes you into her house, as usual knowing it's you before you say anything. The twins respectfully re-introduce themselves. They seem to have taken to heart what you said about being on good terms with the person who sells you guns. Edna invites you inside, calling the twins "darlings" and shuffles indoors. Among the chaotic mess of cats and refurbished firearms she serves you all tea before asking what you're all looking for today.

You look over Edna's arsenal for a while before deciding to get yourself an MP5 submachine gun for close-ish encounters, as well as some C4 plastic explosives and a jury-rigged remote detonator. You also decide to try Edna's new Mystery Box feature.

The box itself is huge, so you're puzzled when you pull out something tiny that's not even a gun. "What the hell is this?" you ask, not recognizing it at first, and then it clicks. "Oh shit, it's an M203." The breech-loading grenade launcher is an attachment designed to clip onto the underside of an M16 assault rifle, providing explosive ordinance in an emergency without having to swap weapons. "People get made fun of for using this," you say, examining it up close. "That they're newbies, that they can't aim so they need explosives to kill things. I say fuck that. Whatever kills the other guy before he kills me." You get this and a set of 40mm grenades to load inside. Your M79 will still be useful if you need to lay down a more serious volume of fire, but this will be super-handy as a backup weapon when you've got your M16 out.

For the twins, you buy them a pair of Detective Specials, the snubnosed revolvers that are classic choices for holdout weapons, a favorite of undercover cops, which is where the gun gets its name. You also get them a sawn-off Remington Spartan shotgun. "Remember what I taught you about not pointing your gun at anything you're not willing to shoot?" you say, still holding the shotgun before handing it to them. "That goes double for this bad boy, because it shoots in a cone shape, not just a straight line. The good news is, if the guy is up close, aiming isn't so important. Point the gun anywhere near him and you'll probably blast him."

You thank Edna and pay her for the guns. The twins are very excited about owning their first firearms. You're about to suggest you head to the shooting range to give them an opportunity to test out their new guns, before you remember that taking 14-year-olds to a licensed facility probablay isn't a good idea. "We'll head out to the swamp later to try them out," you tell them. "For now let's go to Cat's place."

Cat opens the door in a lightweight pink sweater and shorts. You forget sometimes that she does actually have casual clothes. "Hey, Cat," you say, trying to stay cool. Her eyes always do something to you. It gets hard to think when she looks at you like that.

"Johnny," she purrs. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Thought we'd discuss our next business," you say, trying to stay focused. "The girls here are along for the ride. We did some shopping."

"Hello, Miss Catherine," the twins say in unison.

"Hello, girls. Behaving yourself with our friend Johnny here, I hope?"

"Yes ma'am," they both say.

"Wonderful." She takes her purse from the stand in the entryway and hands them two $20 bills. "There's a video arcade at the beach just down the road. Why don't you two keep yourselves busy for an hour or two?"

The money vanishes in an instant. "Will do!" "Seeya later Miss Catherine!" They dash off down the street, shouting at each other.

"Won't you come in?" Cat asks, turning away and walking into the house. You enter, shutting the door behind you, and follow her into the living room. Once again you are struck by the contrast between your usual ambience of the world of scumbags and low-lifes and the clean, high-class decor of Catherine's place. You see the unusual stringed instrument, the Japanese koto, that you asked her to play for you last time. You remember the haunting melancholy of the song she played for you. The koto is leaning up against a couch rather than hanging decoratively on the wall. Perhaps she's been practicing in case you asked her to play again.

Cat moves to the drinks cabinet, pours two glasses of amber liquor, drops a single large ice cube in each one, and hands one to you. "Cheers to us," she says with a slight smile, clinking your glass with hers. She takes a seat on the couch and examines you with a perceptive gaze for a moment before taking a sip from her glass. "How can I help you today, Johnny?"

You swirl the liquid in your glass, listening to the ice cube clink, thinking.

"For starters, why don't you tell me how you are?" You sit down on the chair at a right-angle to the couch. "You've been through a lot in the past few months. You know, having your clubs wrecked, your guys killed, being kidnapped by the Yakuza -- twice --"

"It's been challenging, yes," Cat says dryly. "This is why I have you now."

"You're doing all right, though? The rest of us have action to keep us busy. I worry about you sometimes, thinking that maybe you're cooped up in this swanky place dwelling on things that happened."

"I assure you I've endured worse, in a far more isolated situation." Cat takes a sip of her drink, then forces a smile. "But we aren't here to talk about the past. I'm doing quite well. Thank you for your concern."

"How's things with your organization?" you ask. "I know you took a big hit when the Yakuza turned on you, and Kojiro's guys have been on your ass since then."

"There's not much of it left," she admits. "I've had to sell or allow foreclosure on my properties. Even Enigma. The rumors surrounding the attack were too much of a shadow. It never recovered from the incident." She sighs. "I've got practically nothing in the way of employees or concrete assets. Most of the money has gone to bribes in the right places to keep us hidden. This place, some offshore accounts, and a handful of my intelligence contacts are all I have left." She pauses, then glances at you with a smile. "And you, of course. And my brother and uncle. Without you three -- well -- let's just say I'm very grateful."

"Happy to help," you say.

"What how about you, Johnny?" Cat takes out a cigarette and offers you one. "How are you?"

"To be honest," you say, leaning over to take the offered cigarette. Cat lights it for you, and you sit back and take a drag, then say, "I am angry. Angry about Russians. I started working for you, dealing with this whole Triad-Yakuza Z-trade bullshit, because the Bratva stabbed me in the back. The point was to get to them. Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad I met you and started working with you and we're partners now. I was fine helping you knock over Dragon's Nest and trying to protect you from your dad and Kojiro's bullshit. But the original plan was for me and Alex to do something about Crazy Ivan, and instead we've mostly been beating up his main rivals for control of the city, giving him opportunities to expand and become stronger."

"An unfortunate side effect of our activities," Cat admits.

"Now, we decided that the Triads are priority number one, because if they get a chance to stabilize and rebuild, we're pretty much fucked. They're going to come after us with everything they have, whereas to Ivan we're just some annoyances. We probably got his attention recently when we kicked the shit out of his guys at the slaughterhouse, then knocked over his paddleboat casino. That'll set him back. But not for long."

>>
>>2251099

"You're right," Cat says. "It's not. We'll have to take care that we don't allow him to become too powerful. In the meantime, we'll stay focused on our current objectives. Take down the Dragon, then Kojiro. Afterwards?" A faint smile curves her lips as she exhales a stream of smoke. "Well, new possibilities may present themselves."

"What do you mean?"

"Let's just say the strong are respected."

That doesn't make much sense to you, but okay. Cat usually knows what she's talking about. "You mentioned offshore accounts, which reminds me. I was wondering, uh--"

"Yes?"

"My account's getting kind of low. How am I doing money-wise? You've got most of the money I got from Dragon's Nest holed up somewhere, right?"

"I do," she confirms. "It's still a quite healthy sum."

"How would I go about transferring some of it back?"

"Hmmm." Cat stubs out her cigarette in the ashtray on the glass coffee table. "The point of keeping the money offshore is for it to remain hidden. If you don't mind me asking, just what have you been spending all that money on, Johnny?"

"Uhhh, well ..."

"I may have bought a tank. Aaaand a howitzer."

"What?!" Cat's reserved demeanor explodes. "You -- you bought not one but two pieces of restricted military ordinance?"

"I mean, you're allowed to buy them if the guns are disabled and non-functional."

Cat narrows her eyes. "Somehow I doubt that they are."

"All right, I -- I may have not gotten around to it."

"Just how are you hiding these?"

"I found a place in the swamp behind my backyard. It was a real challenge to get the tank in there without having it disappear into the muck, believe me."

Cat lights herself another cigarette, smoothing over her calm facade, but you can feel the frustration smouldering under the surface. "I do hope you are taking the proper precautions, Johnny. I've come to trust you. I hope that trust is not misplaced."

"It isn't," you say. "I know what I'm doing." That is, you hope you know what you're doing. The tank was kind of an impulse thing, but you don't blame yourself for that. I mean, who wouldn't buy a tank?

The howitzer was maybe a little over the top.

"I also did some home redecorating," you say. "I got tired of the whole "haunted house" vibe. Got the place cleaned up with real walls and floors. I like it, but uh, it turns out that shit is expensive."

You also bought beer. A lot of beer. Some of it was imported, since you wanted to try the fancy stuff. You decide not to mention that to Cat, though.

Cat sighs. "I will remind you to be responsible with the way you spend your money. Too much cash, too quickly, can draw attention. And I can't imagine that every member of your crew has that kind of restraint. You must lead by example."

"I understand," you say. "I'll be careful." You don't regret buying that tank, though.

Cat stands up takes a notepad and pencil out from a drawer. "I've had my intelligence contacts working with the information you retrieved from the FBI office, as well as what we know about Triad activity. I believe I have identified a few key points in their restructing efforts which would require significant protection. By which I mean one of the Elements. With the organization in disarray, they can no longer afford to wait as reserves. They will be ready to respond to threats. We shall create them."

"So we'll force the Elements to react," you say. "We'll strike someplace so important that they'll either already be guarding it, or it'll draw them out."

"Precisely." Cat flips through her notepad. "The targets I've located are as follows. One, a warehouse in South Harbor that handles the remaining Z trade by sea. Two, a transfer point in Blackwater to the north, where they're establishing a new Z route by boat through the swamp. Three, a Triad yacht used for VIP parties and entertainment." She lowers her notebook and looks at you. "Any particular preference? You'll be in charge of the operation, so it's up to you."

(4chan is borked today, so it's not a great day for questing. However, I'll at least leave you with the approach and loadout vote so you can discuss how you want to do the mission. We'll see when the site recovers.)

You talk things over with Catherine and agree to hit the South Harbor dockyard first. This way you can wipe out a big chunk of their stores at once, and put the squeeze on their main shipping route. It'll force them to run more black lotus through their new swamp route, which is less developed.

"I haven't been back there since I blew up a bunch of stuff and stole a helicopter," you say. "At the behest of a certain woman who was making me jump through hoops to get protection from the Russians."

"One hand washes the other," Cat says.

So the purpose of this is to do as much damage to the Triad Z-trade as possible, and in the process draw out at least one of the Elements and take them down. The more of them you're able to kill before trying to take on the Dragon himself, the better.

You look over the intel files on the Elements. Earth, the kung-fu master. Metal, the armored gunner. Water, assassin, who you've got a personal grudge against. And Forest, a mystery. You have no idea which of them might show up for this. The team is going to have to be ready for anything.

Around two in the morning the next night, you're standing in a graffiti-sprayed alleyway near the South Harbor docks. A light wind kicks up dust along with discarded fast food wrappers from the dumpster nearby. The moon is out and shining, casting everything in a silver light. It looks nice, but it'll make it harder to stay in the shadows. You'll just have to hope for cloudy weather.

You check over your gear. M16A2 assault rifle, an updated version of the rifle you used in Vietnam, on your back. M203 "noob tube" grenade launcher attached. Stakeout shotgun, sawn-off, for close encounters, on one hip. That one-handed viking battle axe on the other. A satchel holding liquor bottles filled with gasoline and motor oil, with rag wicks held in place by the bottle stoppers. A duffel bag holding backup plates for vests. A combination armor vest, both bullet- and stab-proof, under a tactical turtleneck in slightly darker black. It's a lot to carry, but you're a big guy.

Someone approaches you from the other end of the alley. You recognize the footsteps, but they're slower than usual. "Having trouble?" you ask, turning around.

"Sorry," Alex says. "This new shirt's a little tight. Hold on." You get an eyeful of her cleavage until you realize you're staring and look away. After a few tries she's able to get the zipper over her ample bust and close her shirt. She makes a few adjustments and then does up her vest. "They don't really make tactical gear in my size. It's hard when you have, uh --" Alex clears her throat. "Okay, moving on. Are we good to go?"

"We're good," you say. "Are you?"

"The pack mule and I are both ready to go." Alex gestures to Nick at the other end of the alley, who is wearing dark clothes and carrying a big suitcase on his back. He scowls, and Alex gives him a thumbs-up. "I've got a high spot all picked out," she says, turning back to you. "It's got a good view of most of the area, and into some of the warehouse windows. Give us ten and we'll be there and set up. I'll keep you posted on the radio."

"All right."

>Stay frosty. Who knows what we're up against here.

"Tonight will be a piece of cake," you say. "We'll scope out the place, find one of the Elements, and take them down. If there aren't any here, we'll cause enough of a ruckus until they show up. There's bound to be at least one in South Harbor tonight, with how much the Triads are depending on these new shipments. Once we take them down and we feel like we've done enough damage to the shipment, we'll vamoose."

You pause a moment to look around at the run-down warehouses of South Harbor. "Hey, remember last time we were here?"

"Sure do," Alex says. "It's not every day you provide cover fire for some thug you barely know so he can help steal an old military helicopter from criminals. Then see a police chopper get shot down in midair. And end things by spending the rest of the night hiding from the cops in a sewer."

"Good times," you say.

"I'm kind of shocked we've survived this long," Alex says.

"Me too." You reach out and rest your hand on her shoulder. "Keep yourself safe, all right?"

"I always do. It's trying to keep you safe at the same time that's the trouble." She gives you a playful slug on the shoulder. "I'll be watching your six. Good luck out there, tough guy."

You head back to your entrance to the alley, as Alex rejoins Nick at the other end and disappears off into the darkness. You have just enough time to light up a cigarette and take a drag before Kazuya's car pulls up. "Perfect timing," you say. You gesture to Kaz to unroll the passenger window, and he does. "Stay cool and wait for us," you tell him. "If anyone gives you a hard time, say you're looking for your lost puppy or something."

"Somehow I don't think they'll buy that," Kaz says. "But okay."

The back doors open and Roxie and Ryuji get out, each of them dressed in black tactical and geared up. Ryuji nods gravely to you. Roxie does a couple stretches and hops from one foot to the other. "So, chief? What's the plan?"

"For starters, let's head over there," you say, dropping your cigarette to the concrete and grinding it out with your boot. "The warehouse is just through over that way, through those yards. I've already cut the fences in our way. When we get there I'm going to find a good spot to scope things out and see what's up."

You, Roxie and Ryuji head down the road, slide through the hole in the chain-link fence you cut up earlier, make your way through the yard of an abandoned industrial plant. Gesturing for the other two to wait there, you jump up and haul yourself over a much sturdier fence, and land in a crouch, ready for anything.

In front of you is a wide concrete lot. Part of it is open, while the other part is filled with trucks and shipping containers and machinery, a jumble of dark shadows, silver moonlight, and yellow exterior spotlights. Across the lot is the main warehouse. To your left you see a smaller building, a garage maybe, and some pallets you could climb to get up there. Probably get a good view of the area from up there.

You climb up the pallets and onto the garage roof, staying in cover. The view isn't as good as you hoped, as some of the machinery obstructs your view, but at least no-one saw you come up here. From here you can see some of the Triad night shift guards, most of them standing at their posts, a few on patrol around the perimeter, occasionally sweeping the darkness with flashlight beams. The guards mostly have AK-47s, but you can see a few of them have heavier pieces, significant firepower. The Triads know this place has to be defended. It occurs to you that maybe one of them has your Ultimax. You'd love to get that gun back. If you ever see a Triad carrying that thing--

Okay, focus, Johnny. You can worry about your strange possessiveness towards your favorite weapons later.

>>2254513
>>2254514

You give your radio a quick double-tap to let Roxie and Ryuji know to come on over. They climb the fence and drop down as quiet as cats. A guard happens to pass by, and they freeze in the shadows, motionless. The guard stops near them when his own radio squawks, and he fires off a couple of sentences in Chinese. Probably a check-in. You see Roxie ask Ryuji something, then she steps out of the darkness and clobbers the guard on the back of his head. She takes his radio for herself, then she and Ryuji hoist the guard into a nearby dumpster and shut the lid. They join you on top of the garage, Roxie grinning as she hands you the guard's radio. "I know we don't speak Chinese and all, but Ryuji says the dock-workers are Vietnamese, and sometimes the two groups speak to each other in English."

"Nice work," you say. For a moment you listen to the low-voiced conversation on the enemy radio. In Chinese, like you thought. But this still might come in handy. You go back to observing the warehouse complex, trying to figure out something useful that'll help your infiltration here.

>The guard positions and patrol routes

From here you can spot all the Triad guards between you and the main warehouse, or at least most of them. You take a minute to memorize where the stationary guys are standing, and where the ones on patrol are moving. There's a few blind spots, and you mentally chart out some routes through the lot that take advantage of them.

"Okay," you say to Roxie and Ryuji. "That big warehouse across the lot probably has most of the Z shipment. From what Cat tells me, it's one of the the big receiving centers. They repackage it here and send it out to their main guys in the city. If we can fuck it up, it'll hurt them bad. The Tong finances are already shit thanks to us, and this'll be a loss they can't afford. Plus I'm hoping one of those pricks with the stupid names shows up."

"I want to fight this Dirt guy," Roxie says. "Honestly, I'm still mad we didn't get to fight him during our escape."

"Whoever it is," Ryuji says. "We'd better not take them lightly. You heard we fought Fire on top of Dragon's Nest, yes, Roxie? We came through it thanks to Johnny, but I wouldn't care to test ourselves against him again. We must be prepared."

>>2254530

You hand the radio to Ryuji. "Here. It's mostly for listening in on, but if we wanted to try and say something, you've got the best chance of blending in. With the accent and all."

"I suppose so," Ryuji reluctantly concedes, and takes the radio. "My accent isn't that bad anymore -- is it?"

"Err -- well, you're learning fast, pal. Don't worry about it."

You descend from the garage, thinking about what to do next. The quiet is getting to you. It always does on these stealth runs. You hear your own tense breathing, and the quiet steps of Roxie and Ryuji behind you. The background hum of the city, cars and people and electricity, always in the background but never noticeable until times like these.

You've got the guards' positions pretty well sketched out in your head, so you're pretty confident you could head straight to the warehouse and get inside without being detected. You could do something to the Z shipment before they even know you're here. On the other hand, this might be a good opportunity to thin the ranks and take out some guards on the quiet. There's a chance you might get spotted doing that, but you'll have to announce your presence here sooner or later. It also might be a smart move to circle around, check the perimeter for any nasty surprises or maybe a secondary exit route.

Should be safer to do this now that we cased the guards movements.

I say we look for something we can use to start a distraction. Ideally we could block the entrance to the warehouse, and then I mean setting it on fire seems like the best plan.

Gets rid of the Z, and if we block the road access to the warehouse then we can probably actually leave it and hopefully steal whatever it is they`re using to transport it. Free boat! Those things are NOT cheap.

Also trashing whatever other boats we find.

Oh wait, we don't have that set up. We don't have the Docks ranged in. We definitely don't want to be anywhere fucking near artillery landing. And finally, I'm pretty sure we only get 1 of those because god damn if artillery is NOT a weapon that you get away with using in a city more than once.

On that note, we should totes get some mortars. Fuck yeah. Those would be awesome for bombing shit.

You decide to do a sweep around the edges of the warehouse complex before you head in. One thing you remember from Vietnam is how easy it is to get too deep into enemy territory without realizing it. By the time you see you're overextended, it's too late. So you figure you'll be safe and thorough, and keep your flanks guarded.

You motion to Ryuji and Roxie to spread out to your right, while you follow the big fence on your left. The sounds of a patrolling guard's footsteps approach. Ryuji silently draws his katana and moves forward into a hiding spot, while Roxie flattens herself against the side of a nearby shipping container, flexing her fists in preparation.

Confident those two have things under control, you start forward on your reconaissance mission. You keep to the shadows, quickly darting through patches of silver moonlight. You pause and wait in the darkness, anticipating a patrol from your quick memorization of the guards' paths. Sure enough, a few moments later a pair of Triad guards pass by, laughing and joking with each other.

You come across a large building. Carefully, you peek through the back windows to look inside, seeing it's divided into two sections. The closer and smaller room is a security center. A bank of black and white closed-circuit televisions are linked to cameras monitoring the warehouse complex. There's also a gun rack. Two Triads are inside, one sitting at the desk by the security TVs, the other leaning against the wall by the window.

The second, larger room is a business office full of desks and cubicles, probably busy during the day but empty now. You might find something lucrative in there, or something useful for Cat's intelligence work.

Nearby is a big gantry crane, currently deactivated. You can see a Triad lookout perched way up there with a rifle. He's got a pretty good view of the whole place. He could be trouble when shit hits the fan -- or you could just tell Alex to target him first.

You take a moment, crouched in the shadows under the window to the security office, to figure out just how you're going to do this. Then an opportunity presents itself. The standing guard opens the window to get some fresh air. He leans against the windowsill and lights a cigarette. When the other guy, the one at the desk, looks away for a moment, you stand up, reach in through the open window, and clamp your hand around the smoking guy's throat, choking off his cry of fear and alarm. You wrestle him outside through the window and onto the ground, pull out your viking axe, and chop it straight down into the guy's forehead. His skull splits open down the middle, leaking brains around the blade. He dies with a surprised look on his face. Probably wasn't expecting a battle axe to be the last thing he ever sees.

The guy at the desk realizes that his partner has vanished. He runs to the window and looks around outside, peering into the darkness to try and see what happened, despite having no vision from sitting inside with the lights on. Stupid idea, you think, and put your axe into his face as well with a satisfyingly meaty thunk. You wrench the blade free, drag the second guy through the window, and drop his carcass on top of his friend's.

Good stuff. With both their security guys out of action, the Triads don't have their cameras, and their response will probably be less coordinated.

>>2256045
>>2256054

You clamber into the security office. It's a tight squeeze to get yourself through the same window you just pulled through two Triads through, but you make it. As you're climbing in, you hear a scuffle over the radio at your shoulder. When you get inside, you pick up the transmitter and say quietly, "Fellas, what's up?"

"A guy showed up someplace we didn't expect," Roxie says. "Must have been going to take a leak. He made some noise before we took him out. I'm not sure if anyone heard it. You better be careful."

You take a look at the security cameras, confirming the guards are all where you expected them to be. Sounds like nobody noticed either of your little scuffles. "Looks like we're good."

You're still unnoticed, but the clock is ticking. Eventually one of the Triads will stumble on you, and then all hell is going to break loose.

You're looking forward to it.

You say over the radio, "You two stay on the hunt out there. Take out as many guards as you can while staying quiet. Pick off anyone isolated or vulnerable. You're sharks and that lot is your ocean."

"Roger," asks Roxie. "What about you?"

"Gonna deal with something."

You take a chair and jam it under the doorknob of one door, then grab a file cabinet and, straining to pick it up slightly so it doesn't make a huge scraping sound, move it to block the second door. With the security office now blocked off, you head back out the window you came through, listening to Roxie growl at an unfortunate guard over the radio. "C'mon, pigfucker -- I got a present for you right here --"

You look up at the gantry crane. That asshole with the rifle is still up there, silhouetted in darkness against the moonlit sky. A marksman with a good vantage point can be a big problem. You'd better sort him out ahead of time.

Now all you have to do is make it up there before he notices you.

You quietly make your way to the base of the crane and start climbing the ladder.

You pull yourself up the rusty ladder, one metal rung at a time, ascending the hulk of the shipping crane. The ground drops away below you as you get higher and higher. When you reach the top, you raise your head just enough to see up there, and find the guard facing the other direction. Fortunately the ladder brings you up behind him while he watches the warehouse complex.

You get yourself up on the walkway, where you're forced to brace yourself against a fierce wind. Carefully you approach the guard from behind, and when you're right up close, you give him the oldest trick in the book -- tapping him on the left shoulder when you're on the right. When he turns to his left side, startled, you hit him with the axe from the right. The blow lands on the side of the head and embeds the axe bit in his skull. The guard collapses, and you quietly lower his corpse to the floor, making sure his rifle doesn't clatter against the metal walkway.

>>2256225

After you twist and wrench your axe blade free of the guy's head, you pick up his rifle, noting it has a pretty decent scope on it. You hold up the rifle and squint through the scope, using the magnified view to survey the warehouse complex. It's tough to see in the shadowed areas, but you have a pretty good idea where to look to find Roxie and Ryuji. You catch sight of a pair of shadows darting through a spotlight. They seem like they're doing all right, even if they're not racking up a huge stealth kill count like you were hoping.

>>2256228

As far as you can tell, the guards are still totally unaware that anything is happening. They continue their patrol routes and standing at their stations, smoking cigarettes or chatting, oblivious to the infiltration happening right under their noses.

You've got a good line of fire from up here on the gantry crane, but not much cover, and your escape routes are limited. Still, you could fire off a few shots and retreat to ground level right away, before anyone realizes where the shots came.

You stay on the lookout for now. Taking up the ex-sentry's position and crouching down a bit, you hope nobody will notice the difference between one shadowy figure standing up on the gantry and another. Your eyes roam over the warehouse complex, trying to see into the shadows between the spotlights. If something looks remarkable, you raise the scope and look through to examine it more closely. You spot a couple of doors to the main warehouse that would make useful entrances or exits, and a big propane tank near the docks that would probably cause a pretty huge distraction if you shot it. But you're looking for something more.

You keep glancing towards the water. You're not sure what you're expecting to see there. A stream of ominous bubbles indicating her presence? Foreshadowing her inevitable appearance, rising from the deeps like some kind of mythical sea monster? No. If she's really as good at amphibious infiltration as the intel says she is, you wouldn't see anything.

Water may or may not be here. If she is -- you might not know it until it's too late.

Just like last time.

The scar on your chest aches, where she shot you.

You don't like to admit it, but you are actually capable of feeling fear. The thought of her sneaking up behind you again, putting another bullet into your chest and pushing you off the gantry, a cruel smile on her face --

You whirl around. Nobody there. You realize your heart is pounding.

A commotion near the docks catches your eye, and you hear an engine noise approaching. You raise the scope and see a small motorboat arriving at the wharf. Three Vietnamese guys hop out onto the dock, meeting a gang of the dock-workers, and they all start unloading black duffel bags from the boat. Must be a Z shipment. Looks like the workers will be active for the next little while. You're not sure if that's good or bad. They'll be distracted, but also moving around more.

A banging sound catches your attention, and you swivel to peer at the source of the noise with the scope. A door from the main warehouse is swinging open, like it was kicked from the inside. And something -- no, someone -- strides through.

"Oh shit," you hear yourself saying. Even at this distance, that behemoth is a monster. More armor than man. The gold lights of the spotlights glint off the metallic shroud that fully encases him. "Guys, I think I found one. We've got a huge guy in the most serious fuck-off armor I've ever seen on the east side of the warehouse. I'm laying pretty good odds it's our friend Metal."

You follow the armored giant with the scope, keeping the crosshairs on him as he walks outside, each step landing heavily. Part of you wants to pull the trigger, shoot him in the head right now. But that helmet looks pretty solid. You might just make him angry. Your Molotovs might do the trick, but then again, they might not. Who knows what kind of padding he's got built into that suit.

There's only one person here who you're sure has the firepower to fuck him up. "Alex, what's the situation?"

"We're set up," her voice crackles on the radio.

"Have you got a line on the target?"

"Negative. The warehouse is between us and him. We can wait for a shot or try to reposition."

You put down the sentry's rifle and start climbing down the ladder. You're tempted to stay on high ground and provide cover fire, but if the enemy spotted you up there, you'd have no cover to speak of, and a long ladder climb down. Much safer to place yourself directly in the line of fire, right? Right. You shake your head as you wonder about the wisdom of your own plans.

"All right, here's how it's going to go," you say over the radio as you descend. "Ryuji, Roxie, get set up near the warehouse. When shit hits the fun, a bunch of those guys are going to try to come pouring out of there. But you're going to stop them. I want you at the doorways keeping them bottled up inside."

"はい," says Ryuji.

"Got it, chief," Roxie says.

"Sure you don't want to fight this guy?" you ask her.

"Nah. Pretty sure I'd break my hands. Armor's cheating, if you ask me."

Alex says, "Johnny, why do I have the feeling you're about to do something stupid?"

"Probably 'cause I am," you say. You reach the bottom of the ladder and step off onto the concrete. "Just be ready to take the shot. You got your spotter in position?"

"This is bullshit," grumbles Nick. "First I have to haul that giant fucking thing all the way up here because girls can't carry their own shit. Now I'm standing around being a professional looky-lou. I've got real skills, all right? I'm a proper thief, not like you goons. I deserve better than this."

"Would you rather be here, by the warehouse, about to get shot at? Or nice and safe up a tower with Alex, away from the battle?"

"Uhhh --" You hear Nick clear his throat. "Spotter in position, affirmative, chief."

"What are you planning?" asks Alex.

"You'll see in a minute. Just be ready," you say as you move forward into position. You poke your head out for just a moment to get the range. Okay, you're close enough. Metal is right over there, standing like a larger-than-life statue of steel and kevlar, flanked by two Triad soldiers.

You rummage around in your satchel, withdraw one of the molotov cocktails, click open your zippo lighter, and light the rag wick held in place by the stopper. Then you take a deep breath, steel your nerve, and step out into the open.

"Hey, toaster!" You call out. "Catch!" Just as Metal begins to turn in your direction, you throw the molotov. The guttering flame arcs through the darkness. Your aim is a little off, but not by much -- the cocktail crashes to the ground right at the feet of one of the Triad soldiers next to him. The bottle explodes in a burst of flame fueled by gasoline and motor oil. The man is instantly immolated. He begins to scream, high-pitched shrieks of agonizing pain. Fire jumps onto the clothing of the other soldier, and he stumbles back beating at the flames as they climb up his sleeve. The burning man runs for the water and throws himself in, dousing himself with a great hiss of steam. Maybe in time to live, maybe not.

Through all this Metal stands. He seems unaffected by the smouldering gasoline on his legs, or the spreading flames at his feet, or the rising heat. The dark metal plates of his armor are highlighted in orange and red, a reflection of the flames. He slowly turns in your direction, and you feel a chill as the skull on his helmet faces you. He raises a Type-81 assault rifle, and you duck behind a shipping container just before the shots rip through the night. He empties his entire clip, then shouts at his minions in Chinese as he stops to reload. The Triads open up as well, a barrage of automatic fire clanging against the walls of the container and the concrete by your feet.

Okay, you got their attention, and now a dozen triads and an armored juggernaut are trying to kill you. You need to lure them south to that Alex can get a shot. All you have to die until then is not die.

Easy, right? So now what?

Yes! More molotovs, more fire, more burning! You need chaos. You need mayhem. You need destruction. The more confused and scattered these guys are, the better. Plus, if you burn this fucker alive in his metal suit, then you'll save Alex the trouble of executing him. And of course, doing property damage to the Triads is always good fun.

You empty out your molotov satchel, clutching the four remaining liquor bottles between your forearm and your chest. You flick on your lighter, touch the flame to the three rag wicks, quickly peek out from behind cover to gauge the distance only to almost have your eye shot out by a bullet that whizzes right your face, then throw them all, one after the other.

The first molotov flies right over Metal's shoulder, shattering and exploding on the ground behind him. Oh well. You were always a lineman, not a quarterback. The second one is shot while you're holding it, the glass neck shattering, and you toss it away, thankful the gasoline didn't spill all over your arm. The third and forth land on either side, setting three Triad soldiers ablaze. They yell and try to pull off their burning clothes as they sprint for the docks and leap into the water. Two of them make it. One of them doesn't, slumping to the ground in a burning heap.

You're hoping to cause some chaos, and at the same time, block off Metal's retreat and flanking routes, forcing him to come straight on -- although you get the feeling he wouldn't be doing anything else. He strides onwards, implacable as a machine. Does he have a fucking ventilator fan in there? He should be roasting. The juggernaut slams a new magazine into his Type-81 and begins firing, accurate bursts that strike the container and the ground barely inches from your skin. If any part of you was exposed, he'd be hitting it for sure. Metal clangs as bullets strike the containers and machinery in the lot. The flames flare red as they climb higher and brighter. The smells of gunpowder and gasoline and burning flesh fill the air.

The container you're using for cover won't last much longer under this intense barrage, so you wait for a pause in the firing. As Metal begins to reload again while shouting orders to his soldiers, you make a break for it. Bullet impacts chase you to a heavy-duty forklift. Too bad you don't know how to drive this one, you think, crouching behind the huge tire. And it's probably too slow. Last time you were here in South Harbor, you had another problem with a big armored dude with a machine gun coming after you. So you impaled him on a forklift.

Too bad that won't work with this one. A forklift like that would come in handy right about now. Or maybe a giant motorized can opener.

You take a moment to try and catch your breath and look around.

You can see Roxie and Ryuji over at the warehouse, keeping a wave of reinforcements bottled up in the exit door with fist and blade. They're doing good, but you don't know how long they'll last like that. Metal hasn't noticed them yet, but you don't know how long that'll last either.

Over there is a building you haven't checked yet, and just as you're looking at it a door slams open and a group of Triads with AK-47s runs out. They spot you, and they've got you flanked.

Well, shit.

Without no hesitation, you whip your M16 around from where it's slung on your back, activate the new launcher attachment, and fire a frag grenade with a hollow-sounding thump. It explodes right in the middle of the group of Triads in front of you, the concussive blast sending them flying, shredded by shrapnel. You placed your shot perfectly, and that single grenade was enough to wipe out that whole squad at once. Pleased with your aim, you dash forward into the building they just came from, taking cover behind the sturdy wall just as Metal and his team begin to fire again.

Not a scratch so far, you think, and grin. How often does that happen? Good mission so far. You slap another grenade into the M203 launcher, hold the rifle out the door, and blind-fire the grenade in the direction you think Metal might be. You hear a blast and a scream. Probably hit one of the punks instead. Heh. Oh well. Still a kill.

>>2256718

You hear a shotgun firing repeatedly, the Mossberg 500 you gave to Roxie, and Ryuji's M4 carbine. Your radio crackles to life. "We're doing all right, Johnny," Roxie says. "I got these fuckers penned in like pigs, and ninja bro here's got my back. Don't worry about us. Aw, shit -- okay, you wanna play? Have some of this!" You hear a frag grenade go off.

"Alex," you say. "Got a shot on Metal yet?"

"Not a good one," she says. "Too much stuff in the way."

"He's gotta step forward just a little bit more," Nick says. "Almost there. Come on, you son of a bitch!"

Alex says, "I can take out some of the goons--"

"No way," you say, cutting her off. "You're our ace in the hole. Only fire when you have a clean shot on Metal. Understood?"

"Understood."

You reload the M203 again, thinking. Metal will probably send some of his goons forward to try and flush you out. Just gotta hold these guys off for a litte longer until he decides he's gotta deal with it himself and moves forward.

You ruefully acknowledge to yourself that the "toaster" line was not your best. Definitely doesn't match up to "get forked" from your previous dust-up in South Harbor. Maybe you'll think of a better one-liner next time.

>>2256820
>>2256966

You get an idea that you could start blasting support columns or something, bring down a roof on these guys. Unfortunately they're outside in the yard with a bunch of machines and shipping containers, not stuff you can casually destroy with bullets. So unless you can shoot down clouds, that's not happening. Maybe you could wreck the building you're in as you retreat? You tap the wall. Sturdy concrete. That's good since it's protecting you from bullets right this moment from the barrage of fire from Metal and his soldiers. But it does mean you can't casually knock the thing over with a couple of grenades. Oh well.

Out the back it is. The metal door won't open, even after you thump your shoulder against it, so you grab the Stakeout sawn-off shotgun at your hip, aim, and blast the lock. You realize, as you're pushing the door open, that it probably locks from the inside and you could've just turned a knob or something. Oh well.

You hustle out into the yard, keeping the building you just left between yourself and the Triads. They're still firing at the building, and you figure they haven't realized you left yet. You avoid the brightly lit areas, and when you get to a big patch of shadow, you hide and start to circle around, trying to get a good firing angle while they still don't know where you are.

You make your way through the shadows to the garage you surveyed the area from at the start of the mission, climb back up the same stack of wooden pallets onto the roof, and look around. You see Metal and his squad of assholes are still pouring fire onto the small concrete building you just left. They must not have realized you got the hell out of there. You have the advantage of surprise now, and a great line of fire. Only problem is that you're not sure you have any weapon that can even phase this guy. Your M16 would distract him and annoy him, which might be useful, but you're not sure that even a direct hit from the grenade launcher would penetrate that armor. Of course, there's only one way to find out for sure.

>>2258532

Roxie's voice comes on the radio. "Johnny, your ninja pal took a hit in the vest but I think he's all right. Just breathing hard." You hear her shotgun fire a couple times. "We've still got the warehouse guys jammed up in this doorway, but I dunno how much longer we can hold this."

>>2258598

Alex says, "Some guys came sniffing around. They didn't find us, but they came close. I sent Nick to lead them on a wild goose chase."

"How'd you get him to do that?"

"I can be very convincing."

You think of how many guns she tends to carry around. "I'll bet you can."

Roxie and Ryuji:

Metal as an element can be dulled and weakened. Which is exactly what's happening with him going full retard and unloading on the building we left. If Ryuji and Roxie can kill the people in that warehouse and clean-up, that'll free them up to help us out directly, and also give Metal less reinforcements.
>Search for an exit route.
Doubt Metal is gonna move right now, but he WILL once/if he runs out of ammo or we blow something up.
>Stay hidden.
Stealth is our advantage, and this Metal doesn't look too sharp so far :^)

Whoops, forgot to reply to the post >>2258646
It doesn't fucking matter what happens as long as we all make it out in one-piece. This attack alone will fuck up their morale and set them back.
Also a reminder to everyone else: Metal still need to use guns. He might be armored, but his guns are not. He might be a walking tank, but his guns can be knocked away and his footing can be disrupted somehow, not to mention armor-piercing and other ways to cripple or disable him. A snake can easily break through skin once it reaches past the obstacles in it's path, as Ken would say.

"Roxie, Ryuji, I got an idea," you say into the radio. "Find a window or something, get inside some way where they won't see you do it. Then when they least expect it, kick 'em in the ass."

Roxie laughs. "I like it, cowboy. Come on, pal!" You hear her helping Ryuji get to his feet. "Still got work to do!"

>Search for an exit route.
>Stay hidden.

While they get into position, you stay down, hiding in the darkness and scoping things out. Your eyes roam over the wharf, the flames from your molotovs, the warehouse full of shouting workers, Metal and his goons. As you watch, the Element calls a cease fire and sends a group of soldiers forward to scout the building you vacated. While they're busy, you spend a minute scanning the area for an exit route. The fence you jumped to get inside is right there, but one of the emergency spotlights is now highlighting it in bright yellow. You could still get out that way, but only during a significant distraction, otherwise you'd get filled with holes before you could climb over. Better to look for something else.

It's a tight squeeze, but you realize there's a path that would take you relatively safely and unnoticed along the edge of the wharf to the pier where that small motorboat docked earlier. You could zip off with it into the bay, turn off your running lights, and disappear into the night.

You see muzzle flashes in the warehouse windows, hear gunfire and screams. Roxie is laughing, her radio still on. "Haha, die, chumps!" In response you see Metal turn and delivers an order to his troops, shouting and pointing to the warehouse, and most of the rest of them detatch and run over there.

The guards who were searching the building you left return to Metal. One cautiously approaches him and begins talking, waving towards the building. Metal nails him with a gauntlet to the chin. Guess he didn't like the news. He reloads his rifle and, ready to investigate himself, takes a step forward.

Alex says, "Gotcha, bitch."

BOOM. The thunder of an M2 Browning echoes through the harbor. A loud clang sounds from Metal and he staggers backwards. You see a huge dent in his torso armor, jagged cracks spreading out like spiderwebs.

BOOM. A second shot hits Metal, and he falls to one knee. His soldiers have no idea where the shots are coming from. Metal clutches at his ribs with one arm while he points with the other towards Alex's position. The soldiers open fire, but they have no idea what they're aiming at, and the shots go wildly into the darkness.

There's an urban legend about the M2 Browning, the Deuce. That it was so brutally powerful the Geneva Convention banned its use against human targets. It's not true, but the gun packs such a kick that you could believe it. Using a gun of this magnitude against a regular human is overkill. With this motherfucker, though? It's just right. You imagine Alex perched on top of the water tower with that gigantic gun braced on a bipod, calmly ignoring the gunfire directed at her as she lines up the next shot in the scope.

BOOM. A third shot nails Metal right in the helmet. He falls over backwards onto the ground, clattering as his armor hits the concrete.

That must have done it. Nobody could take three shots from an M2 and live, even with that armor. Right?

You see a gauntleted hand twitch, then press against the ground. Metal pushes himself up into a sitting position and begins to stand. His helmet is caved in. The faceplate is cracked. His skull must be broken inside there. How is he still alive? You could almost believe that he's already dead, that the armor itself is possessed by his last will, vestiges of hatred driving it onwards.

BOOM. A fourth shot hits him in the shoulder. BOOM. A fifth in the neck. BOOM. A sixth in the helmet again. Finally the vast hulk of steel falls again, and this time lies still and unmoving. Blood leaks from the shattered helmet onto the ground.

"Nice shooting, Alex," you say. "Target is down, fellas. Time to --"

"-- get the fuck out of here, but not before we burn that stash of Z in the warehouse," you say as you climb down the pallets to the ground. The Triads are scattering, terrified of Metal's death. Any who stop to try and rally their comrades are blasted down with thundering roars by Alex on the M2. "Roxie, Ryuji, take care of it. I'm gonna check out this office I found earlier, I might be able to grab some intel or something. Once you're done, meet me at that speedboat that just docked a few minutes ago. That's our ticket to a fast ride out of here."

"Wait, what?" Roxie sounds suddenly panicked. "Did you say burn the Z? We can't do that!"

"I mean, you knew this was the plan, right?" you ask her. Are those sirens? It's hard to hear over all the yelling and burning and shooting.

"Uhhhhh -- well --"

You kick open the door to the business office and start rifling through some papers. It's hard to tell which ones are important, and you've got no time to waste, so you just stuff some in your bag at random and then leave. "Were you paying attention when I told you what we were doing here tonight? Any attention at all?"

"Yeah, I mean, sort of? I just didn't -- I mean, look at all this!" You can't see it, but you can imagine her in the warehouse, awestruck at the huge piles of black lotus, tall stacks of dark violet leaves bound into bales for transport to the chemical labs. "There's so much! I could live forever off this!"

"Stay with me, Roxie," you tell her, not needing this right now. You stay low as you head north towards the speedboat. Yeah, those are definitely sirens you hear. "The cops are on their way, so we need to move. Keep your head in the game. Don't get distracted."

>>2258901

You say that, but then something shiny catches your eye. Scolding yourself for your greed, you nonetheless run up to Metal's corpse and, avoiding the growing puddle of brains at his head, you unfasten his gauntlets and vambraces, and throw them into your satchel along with the files. Too bad you couldn't get that skull helmet for yourself, but Alex fucked it up pretty good.

(Continued)
>>
>>2258920

"But it's so much leaf!" Roxie is saying. You can practically hear her drooling. "If I can maybe just --"

"Now's really not the time -- ah, shit --" A Triad guard actually spots you for the first time tonight, and gets a gutful of shot from your Stakeout for his trouble. "Roxie, fuck, we can sort this out later, but right now I need you to do what I'm telling you, all right?"

She doesn't answer. You crouch behind cover, waiting for the right moment, then run forward to the boat dock, where you hide behind a cluster of rope spools and watch the warehouse. Nothing.

"Roxie, do you copy?" you ask the radio again.

You jump when her reply comes from right next to you. "Yeah, I copy," she says, emerging from the shadows. She looks cross. "You better make this worthwhile." A big black duffel bag is slung over her back. Ryuji has one as well. He's standing behind her, holding his forehead like he's got a headache.

"Is that--?" you ask, pointing to Roxie's bag.

"Yeah, and shut up, okay?" She adjusts the bag strap and hefts her shotgun. "We did what you said, so let's go already."

Another argument is more trouble than it's worth, and you can see the proof of Roxie's words when you look past her through the warehouse windows to see the growing flame inside. So you shrug and head to the boat. "Untie us and get in, then." The keys are still in the ignition. Stupid fucks. You start up the engine, then say over the radio, "Alex, we're done here. Get yourself clear. Is Nick all right?"

"I'm sure he's fine," Alex says dismissively. "I'll go find him. See you back at the house."

"See you there." Roxie and Ryuji finish untying the boat and jump in the backseat. Some of the Triads have seen what you're doing by now and are running in your direction, shouting and spraying their AKs. Bullets strike the water near you, but you're already turning the wheel and gunning the throttle. The engine roars to life, the boat spins in a half circle kicking up a big wave, then takes off, and you race off into the darkness.

Soon you've disappeared into the Heat City bay. You cut the engine and drift. Out here in the open water at night, running silent with your lights off, you're almost impossible to find.

(Cont.)
>>
>>2258924

"Woo!" Roxie groans and flops back in her seat, releasing the tension. "Hell fuckin' yeah, that was fun! Aw shit, they got a cooler in here."

She opens the cooler to find it stuffed with ice and Asian beer cans. She grabs one for herself and hands a second one to Ryuji. He seems baffled by her, but accepts the beer nonetheless. She hands you a third one. Once all three of you have opened your drink she delivers an especially vigorous "cheers" to each of you, clashing her can against yours and spilling beer all over the boat floor, before she drains the rest of her can in one go. She tosses the empty can on the floor with a clatter and lets out a belch.

"So what's the plan?" asks Ryuji.

"Figure we'll drift here a bit to throw them off the scent," you say. "Then we'll go ditch the boat in that cove off Carolina Island. You know the one, Ryuji."

"Ah, yes," he says. "The first time I ever worked with you, and you were trying to explain why you had a man tied up in the bottom of your stolen boat."

Roxie says, "Wait, what? Who was this?"

You say, "It was Nick, actually."

She laughs. "Okay, I gotta hear this story."

"Sure, we've got some time to kill." You pause to take a drink. The beer is cool and refreshing after working up a sweat back there. The adrenaline is starting to wear off, leaving you tired, but the elation of having survived enough battle is flooding in. You look out at the darkness of the night, feeling the cool breeze over the open waters, then turn back to Roxie. "So after the whole thing with me and Alex and the Russians, we didn't see Nick for a couple weeks. Then one day I ran into him at the bar, and let me tell you, I was pissed ..."

>>2258994

>>2259004
The theme doesn't match, bro. In traditional Chinese Elements, there's two elemental cycles: of destruction and of creation. Destruction cycle goes Fire destroys Metal (melts it), Metal destroys Wood (chops it), Wood destroys Earth (parts by growing on it), Earth destroys Water (muddying it), Water destroys Fire (quenches it).
While the creation cycle goes Earth creates Metal (minerals in earth), Metal creates Water (collects it, actually), Water creates Wood (grows it), Wood creates Fire (fueling it), and Fire creates Earth (ashes).
>>
>>2259019
We aren't Chinese, we're American.

So we can break their cycle and throw them off balance.
>>
>>2259033
So far we're on the destruction cycle against the Elements.
>we first entered with killing Fire
>then we kill Metal
if we were to maximize the theming bonus, Wood is next, then Earth, and lastly Water.

Also Batman wears a bat costume not because he actually believes he's a bat, it's because criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot.
So we use their cycle of destruction against themselves because the Triad are a cowardly and superstitious lot.
>>
>>2259039
That's stupid, and Batman is Capeshit. Don't bring Capeshit into this lovely quest.

Water shot us and threw us off a building. Fuck that bitch.

Chink "Themes" < American "Getting Shit Done". Especially in the 80s. Especially using Meta knowledge Johnny doesn't know. Especially claiming there's a "thematic bonus" when you aren't the QM.

Besides, according to your logic going after Wood next is what they'll be expecting. So how about let's NOT do what the enemy expects.

Listen to a smart Chinaman, listen to Sun Zoo.
>>
>>2259039
