>The Intro
Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Let's have some fun.

Another rainy day in Gotham City. Not that you're complaining. The bell signalling lunch time echoes through the wood paneled halls of the academy, leaving you feeling vaguely hungry. Even if you weren't hungry before. The lunch bell has an effect like that . Within seconds you're swept up in the tide of dark blue and khaki clad students on their way to get some cheap food and conversation. Might as well join them.

It's weird, real weird. You've been goin' here to for almost a full year now and you still feel like a stranger in Gotham Academy's halls. In the stone courtyards. Like those ugly ass gargoyles could swoop down any minute cause you just don't belong. Maybe if you spent more time here? This place is a boarding school too so there are students who almost never leave. You just go to class and go home.

You're left alone as the lunch rush floods out of the hallways and you're still walking by the wide windows of the upper stories. The rain and tree branches slapping against the glass is goddamn therapeutic in your experience. But it doesn't do anything for you this time. There's just so much piling up. The troubles with Black Mask, HIVE's secret activities, and there's still whatever the hell Gorilla Grodd has planned. He hasn't made a move in months. And he paused all activity when HIVE's base went down. Smart monkey.

Is this how it always is? You feel like the moment you squash one thing, two more worse things pop up. You never thought this would be easy. But it never stops, does it? Your train of thought is broken by the feeling of someone's slender arm hooking around yours, you turn slowly, prepared for things to get ugly, or just plain weird so you practically deflate when you see Megan's smiling face. "Surprise!"

"Megan? What- why're you here?" Despite your surprise, you both just keep walking.

"Well. I talked to Dick about um- you know what. And he asked Mr.Wayne and he said I should get acclimated to my new environment, and receive at least some basic training. So, here I am!" And she's not playing around. She's wearing a clean and pressed girl's uniform and everything.

"Didn't you learn plenty at your 'old school'? I mean, If I were in your position I'd never go back to school."

"I didn't really have any schooling the way you know it... and besides, this is a whole new world. There's lots I don't know!"

You shrug. "If you say so. Anywways, good to have you around. If you got any questions I can probably help you out, Been going here for almost the whole year already. But I'm no expert or nothin'"

"Oh that's fine, I'm sure you'll be a great guide!" You just can't shake the sunshine outta this girl.

"Wait, does Dick know you're here?"

"Oh yes, he said I should find you and surprise you!" She thinks for a moment. "Oh, and that he would be late to lunch."

That's just how he is. Late for everything but somehow also never late. It's probably nothing that important.

Artemis and Barbara are already waiting at your usual table in the cafeteria. Looks like Blondie is doin some maintenance on her practice bow, and Babs is doin' the usual. Whatever is is that computer science nerds do on their PC. Artemis is visibly confused when you walk on over with Megan but she recognizes the alien girl pretty quick after some explanations.

"So you'll be going here in the meantime? That's really cool of you to put in such an effort to learn! Were glad to have you, Megan." Of course, Babs is real impressed.

Blondie seems to be glad to have a chance to talk with her. Makes sense. She was in a bad place last time she saw her. "That is impressive. I have to say, if I was on an alien world, I'd never go to school again."

Right?! "That's what I said!"

The conversation evens out from there, people are kept busy either by their food or the lunchtime activities. Megan is so fucking jazzed just to be here it's nuts. Dick still isn't here. And it's the weirdest thing. You've been sitting here for a bit and you've felt eyes on your back the whole time.

>"So Blondie, how's practice these days huh?"
>"What are you even doing Babs?"
>"So what's your impression of our planet so far Megan?"

So they aren't glad anymore?
Okay Sleepy, I've noticed you do this a lot in your sessions and nobody helps you out on something so easy to fix.
It's not something that ruins the experience but I certainly get taken out of it a bit every time.

It should be "We're".
It's a contraction word like "You're" is to "You are" or "They're" is to "They are". "We are glad to have you." see what I mean? "Were" means a completely different thing.
It's just really weird seeing you nail all those other contractions but miss this one.
Keep up the good work and hope this helps.

You gotta admit, you're curious. "So Megan, whaddya think of our... city, so far eh? Gotham is a fair bit different from where you're from."

She takes a moment to consider it, finger to her chin. "Honestly, I had a lot of time to learn before I actually came. So nothing has been too much of a shock for me. But it's already amazing compared to where I used to stay back home."

Babs closes her laptop to focus on the conversation, at least that's what you thought until she broke out her smartphone. "So how'd you learn about- Gotham, yeah, how'd you do that from where you were?"

Megan lights up again with that question. "TV! We love tv where I come from so I ended up consuming a lot of it. It's how I learned to speak english!"

"So, don't you learn differently, then?" Babs interjects again. "Like, how useful is school here going to be for you?"

"Oh, plenty! My capacity and rate of retention might be different from others but I still have to learn like you. And besides, Mr.Wayne said it would be good to be around others of a similar mental age."

Mental? The conversation sort of moves on without you as you let that word sink in while chewing on your strictly middle of the road pizza. Does that mean she's younger than you all? Or older? What's the life cycle of a Martian anyways? What the hell? You personally know a fucking martian. What the fuck? But all the just alright pizza in the world can't distract you from that feeling of eyes on your back.

Leaning in, you swallow your kind of dry crust and let your friends in on it. "Y'know, I feel like someone is watching me. No idea if I'm just being paranoid or what, be cool, you see anyone?"

Everyone steals covert glances at the cafeteria beyond your table but they come up empty. Eventually Blondie gives up and shrugs it off. "I can't see anyone beyond what's normal."

You raise an eyebrow. "What's normal for being watched, exactly?"

She smirks. "You know what I mean. Most teenage boys aren't exactly subtle."

That gets a round of giggles from the rest of the table and you suddenly realize who you've been sitting with this whole time. "Right."

>"One, that's creepy as hell. How do you explain it, if I still feel it after lunch?"
>"This ain't the first time it happened, I kinda felt it when we got soaked at the library a while back. Remember that shit, Babs?"

"Hear me out though, this ain't the first time it happened, I kinda felt it when we got soaked at the library a while back. Remember that shit, Babs?"

It takes a moment but you see her eyes light up with realization when she recalls that day. "Now that you mention it, I do remember something like that. And it's easy to stay unseen in that old library if you know how."

Artemis ain't convinced. "Oh come on. Morgan, you can't seriously think someone is watching you, at school. You haven't even been going here that long."

"Look, where I grew up, you don't ignore feelings like this. It could save your life. I'd rather watch my back and have nothing happen than ignore it let someone get the jump on me."

Megan finishes her lunch at tosses her paper plate into the trash with such accuracy that you're glad no one was watching. "Umm, where did you grow up, Morgan?"

"Place called Suicide Slums, course that ain't it's real name but it stuck, it's on the less wealthy side of Metropolis. Nothing special. But the streets in those parts can be dangerous. Which is why I trust my instincts when it comes to shit like this."

"Oh... I see. Well, if you think someone is watching you, I believe you."

There it is again. Nothing keep s this girl down for long. "Thanks, Megan." After you calm down the rest of your lunch period starts to slide by sompletely normally. You're even able to get some work done. Though one look at the clock tells you that lunch is almost over, and no sign of Dick. "So where the hell is Dick anyways? Lunch period is almost up."

Megan just shakes her head. "I don't actually know, he just said he had something to take care of before he joins us. Why? Do you have a bad feeling about this as well?"

"Nah, it's just- it's odd is all. If it was important he woulda said something." The bell signalling the time to head back to class sounds off and everyone starts saying their goodbyes and splitting off. You're left standing there, only Megan stayed behind looking at you with a hint of worry in here eyes.

>"Blondie is right, sometimes I'm just paranoid. I'm goin to class."
>"Where did you last see Dick? I'm gonna check on him."

"Megan, I'm not just being paranoid, yeah?"

"I believe that you shouldn't disregard powerful feelings." She looks around quickly, no students are left near you. "It's one of the many teachings of the great Sages on Mars. Don't ignore your heart."

"I uh- I'm not sure if it goes that deep. But that's all the answer I need. Thanks Megan."

"Of course!" Her bright smile returns. "Now, I have calculus next. Which building-"

"Actually, where did you last see Dick? I'm gonna check on him." You take a quick look outside and around the corners of buildings and such, looking for cameras. "You can't be too careful right? And if I'm wrong, I'll just go to class."

"Okay, just be careful. You don't want to get in trouble. And I can do you one better." She closes her eyes for a moment and opens them again. "He's on the south side of the campus, near the plot of trees."

"You see him with your minds eye or somethin?"

She giggles. "Something like that. Dick's mind is very guarded. A lot like Mr.Wayne's really. Makes it easy to detect him like this."

Hmm, food for thought. As mom would say. "Thanks again, this won't take long." You wave her off to her next class and round the corner of a larger building and disperse when you think you're free of prying eyes and cameras.

----

Sticking to the shadows provided by the rain clouds you slip around the campus as quiet as the ghost you claim to be. Gotham Academy is downright creepy like this, slicked in rainwater and dark. It ain't like that's different from the city but there's just something different about this place that you can't shake. The warm light's of the classrooms through the windows of the old stone buildings strike you in the same way the light from inside a jack'o lantern would.

All you can do is try to clear your thoughts while you check in on Dick. Maybe he just decided he needed some time to himself. In which case, he doesn't even need to know you felt the need to go check on him. This also did a good job of reminding you how slow you get around without your grapnel. It's almost embarrassing really, you thought you might get faster with training.

You slither up the side of a particularly large gargoyle and reform, one hand holding onto his wing for support. You can clearly see the treeline of the plot from here. Of course it's dense and overgrown. It's probably as old as the grounds. Fishing in your pocket, you find your goggles and snap them on, happy you decided to keep them on you just in case. After they focus you find him, crouched on a tree branch, hidden by the shadow the canopy provides. And talking with someone.

And that's not the only thing that stands out to you immediately. He's in full costume. Completely suited up. Sour look on his face. The man he's talking to, stands there with an umbrella, in an impeccable suit. He's an older guy. Full head of white hair, and an eyepatch. You couldn't miss this guy in a crowd. They're talking, or rather, he's talking and Robin is listening.

Whatever he's saying, Robin clearly doesn't like it. He absorbs everything the guy has to say and after about a minute, he says something back and the guy simply nods and walks away, deeper into the treeline. Robin doesn't move from his spot on the branch for a moment but then grapples back onto a nearbv rooftop.

What the fuck is happening here.

Your mind starts to whirl with the implications of what you just saw. But you brush them aside. If this was something he really didn't want you to see, or know about, he would've covered himself better. Guy was trained by Batman. So you hail him on comms, he picks up nearly right away.

"Ghost? Where are you?" He sounds surprised.

You lean against the gargoyle, using the lip of the roof as cover from the rain. "Nearby, I saw your visitor. You need backup?"

Watching the treeline gives you nothing. The guy is gone. Robin takes a moment to respond. He might be changing back into his school threads. "I- no. Not this time. But thanks. We've gotta talk about him, but everyone needs to hear it. This calls for a Titans meeting."

Shit, then this is serious. "We calling a meeting today?"

"No, it'll take a while for us to all gather again, so we'll settle for a long conversation over comms until a later date. Just come by the Batcavce sometime after school okay? And, be on guard if you suit up today."

"Gotcha. Until later." You end the call and just continue to watch the rain. Dick sounded probably the most serious you've ever heard him. Not even comparable to the Man-Bat incident. This could get bad. Dispersing, you allow your cloudy form to be swept over the gargoyle and down the side of the building. Sticking to the dark and unwatched corners of the grounds. All you can do for now is make it through the day.

-----

The rest of the day passes by pretty uneventfully, you discovered that Megan is in your sciences class and she was just giddy to have someone she knows in it with her. She's so excited for stuff that you don't think twice about. It makes you wonder what the hell a place like Mars is even like. Artemis headed for practice and it seems Babs is sticking around for some kind of school project. Dick went straight for Wayne Manor and Megan left in the same car. Which leaves you on the bus headed home.

Or at least it would have. If you weren't sitting around on campus. You don't even know why you're still here. You haven't felt like someone was watching you since lunch so it ain't like your afraid to go home or something. Whatever, you still got some time to kill before you should head for the meeting. You could fins a way to kill that time. Or you could just to straight for the Manor. Alfed even offered to pick you up.

>Just go straight to the Manor.

Shrugging, you sling your crap over your shoulder and head for the practice fields. You've never seen Blondie at practice so your kind of curious. And she haven't been dreading it like she was back at the last school. God, that feels so long ago. Your walk takes you halfway through the school but you eventually find your way back to what seems to be more like an indoor firing range than anything else.

But sure enough, there's a dozen or so girls in here practicing their archery skills. You find Blondie pretty quick, and most of the other archers ignore you, focusing on their shooting. It's actually kind of hard to miss the golden ponytail swinging about down a line of all the other archers. As you approach you see she doesn't hold anything back when she's here. Her targets are just riddled with holes and arrows dead center. No wonder those girls hated her.

It's not a good reason, but you can see it. Leaning against the wall behind her, you just watch as she lands yet another clean hit in the center ring. "Alright, now do that thing where you split one arrow with another."

"Morgan? Didn't think I'd see you around here. What's up?"

"Right now? Nothin. Later? Probably a lot. But you'll hear about it."

"Can you be any less cryptic or what?"

"There's gonna be a meeting later, we'll have plenty of time to talk about it there."

She fires another hit, dead center. "Fine, I don't like being left in the dark." She fires yet another shot. And the arrow promptly joins it's brothers embedded in the inner circle or the target.

>"Okay, okay, hear me out. Apple. On my head. Right here, right now."

Watching Blondie drawn and nail one arrow after another awakens something in you. A stupid idea. A terrible idea. So bad, that it must be done. "Okay, okay, hear me out. Apple. On my head. Right here, right now."

She chuckles, saying nothing and continuing her shots. But the look on your face says it all. You're not joking. "No. No. No way Morgan Can you really not tell how dangerous that is?"

You nudge her in the side. "Uh, did you forget something about me, Blondie? I'll be fine! Besides, your like, one of the best archers in the world. C'mon. Let's have some fun."

Crossing her arms, she issues a challenge. "I bet you don't have an apple."

But you came prepared. You reveal the red delicious that's been sitting in your pack since lunch. "Urgh, fine! But if this goes wrong you can't blame me!"

Several moments later your standing on the other end of the range. Hands in your pockets, apple on your head. Obviously, Artemis is drawing a crowd with the stunt and thankfully, a student is watching the door so you don't get interrupted. And some other girl has taken the honor of fliming this on her phone. Artemis is clearly unsure of this. But you're not worried. Between the both of you, what's the worst that could happen?

lets find out

Artemis raises her practice bow, clearly trying to focus. And you appreciate the effort but you're just gonna go cloudy the moment she fires. Just so there's no unnecessary mishaps. It's taking her a while though. You're almost gettin' bored over here waiting. Every time she get's ready to draw and fire, she quits in the middle.

The girl filming looks like she getting tired of waiting. "C'mon Artemis, you gonna take the shot or not? Guess, you have to be careful, shooting your boyfriend isn't a great sign for the future of your relationship."

What. "Wha-" Artemis loses her focus for a moment and the arrow she had nocked flies free. What happens next actually happens pretty fast. Too fast for you to follow seeing how it caught you off guard. But the important part, is that one second you were fine. And now, there's an arrow sticking out of the top of your shoulder.

Of course, after one tense moment of silence, the girls all freak out. Instinctively, you pull it out. No blood. Oh thank fuck, you dispersed just enough on instinct. Everyone is understandably confused about the hole thing but they accept the excuse you give them. That the arrow just hit REALLY close to your shoulder, not actually piercing it. The hole in the wall helped sell that. And the girl recording didn't get a clear shot.

Too embarrassed to stay, Artemis packed her stuff and called it a day on practice after that. You both end up taking a walk out of school together. Heading for the bus stop.

"Okay, I'll admit it. That was definitely, a terrible idea." You kick a can into the gutter, and watch it float along into the little river into the sewer. "But damn if it wasn't fun- Ow!"

Blondie just slugs you in the arm. Face still a pale shade of red. "Don't you ever ask me to do that again!"

You throw up your hands in what you hope is a placating manner. "Lighten up Blondie! Nobody got hurt."

"Ugh, that's not the point. Just- forget it. When is this meeting?"

"Oh yeah, you wanna just head for the Manor right now, I'll call Alfred and he'll pick us up."

"Might as well, just gotta text my mom."

But, you should make something clear first. "Oh yeah, and uh- let's not tell Ted about this... or Bruce."

Blondie thinks about it, and clearly comes to the same conclusion as you. "Agreed."

Alfred pulls up in what has to be, the slickest, and oldest car you have ever seen. All black, and spotless. "He steps out and greets you in a drivers cap, opening the passenger door for you and Blondie. "Ms.Crock, Mr. Barrett. I trust your daily studies found you well?"

You can't help but laugh. "It was an interesting day, Alfred."

He promptly sits back in the drivers seat. "So I'm told by Master Richard, you have been sure to be mindful of your schoolwork, yes?"
"Yes, Alfred." You and Artemis both drone. You swear, he can be worse than mom sometimes.

"So how has the Gotham nightlife been lately Alfred? Haven't been on patrol in a while." You figure asking him is the next best thing to asking Bruce since he goes through Alfred all night.

He glances at you in the rear-view mirror, only taking his eyes of the road for a second. "It has been relatively quiet as of late, which for Gotham, as you know, is quite unusual. The usual rogues have been keeping their heads down. And Master Bruce may be reluctant to tell you this, but he is having trouble locating Killer Moth and Mrs.Fries. And I'm certain Victor fries grows more anxious by the day."

Fuck. If Batman can't find them, then you're gonna be up shit creek soon. "Hows the day to day then? I'm tired just doing a full school schedule and going out every other night. Bruce is Batman EVERY night."

"Oh, rest assured. Master Bruce does an excellent job of finding new and exciting ways to possibly kill himself. But I manage." You and Artemis have to stifle a laugh in the back and you swear you could've seen the old man's mouth curl up into a smile. Must've been your imagination.

The rest of the ride to Wayne Manor is smooth as hell, so you enjoy just enjoy the scenery on the way. Yep, scenic Gotham. This mostly just makes you wish you had followed up on your riding lessons with Ted sooner. Then you wouldn't need a ride. Well, no, you'd still need a ride. But only until you got a bike, then you're riding free. But that's probably a ways away. Even with all that cash you've been saving.

Heading inside, you all take the elevator into the Batcave from the main hall and arrive just in time to see Dick typing away on the Batcomputer. Supervised by a casual Bruce. It's almost weirder seeing him in normal ass clothes than it is fully suited with the cowl down. He simply nods when you both show up, says he'll be on the training platform and takes his leave. You look at Blondie but she just shrugs.

Guess he's still Batman. Dick just glances at you but keeps typing. "Good, you guys are here. Then we're just about ready. Hey Barb! Get over here!"

Babs returns from another platform, a strange pair of goggles on her head and box full of electronic scrap in her hands. Looks like were all here. Dick presses a button and suddenly you're face to face with the other Titans. Kaldur and Roy look like they're sitting in front of console like you all are but Donna's screen keeps shaking. Is she- is she on a smartphone?

"Alright Titans, we need to talk. Today, a man called me out at my school. I'm pretty sure he hasn't deduced my identity, but this is far too close for comfort. And that man was Slade Wilson." Images appear on screen of a man in the middle of all kinds of acts of violence. Stabbing, shooting, beating, you name it. He's doing it. He's clad in dark armor and wearing a mask split down the middle with a dark orange color dominating one side that covers his missing eye.

"His other name, is Deathstroke. And he had a deal for me."

>Sorry about the wait!

The multiverse.

A seemingly endless expanse of worlds upon realms upon universes. Each one following a similar core structure while still deviating from each other in big and small ways. So why? When he has access to all that is. Does Metron return to the curious Earth-Q? Perhaps because it is curious. Because it is an anomaly that he has not yet seen? He ponders, for less than moment. It is the nature of this Earth. The ever shifting seas of it's particular timeline.

He sees great potential in this world. One that changes so easily yet cannot be undone. Yes, There is much to see and learn in such a world. Metron turns his gaze towards this Earth, and sees many things. The indomitable Justice League, living legends in their own rights. Some of them even rival the strength of Genesians, as much as they would loathe to admit it. But they are fully formed. At the height of their power with constant contenders. Almost uninteresting compared to what lies beneath them.

The ever dark and violent Gotham City, and the individuals who make up a very important aspect of the identity of the old city. The villains. They are seemingly as attached to the old stone and iron of Gotham as it's Dark Knight. They squirm about in it's underworld, scheming about this or that. But every now and again, they do truly noteworthy things.

But now, not quite there, something higher than that but lower still than the gods of Justice. Yes. The young. For the mortals of the known universe, the young inherit all. Theirs is an almost sacred cycle. The young learn while their elders protect them, nurture them, tutor them. When the time comes, the young supersede the old and inherit their world. Why would these mortals be any different. This, much like New Genesis, is a world of super beings. And it will have to accept that. Truly accept that. One day.

Metron's eye first lands in a country with more activity of super-beings than any other. America. And he spies a melding of machine and man.

The roar of the engine. That sound has become the sound of home to Victor Stone. Like the sound of a loyal dog's feet, scampering across the floor to greet you. Or even the smell of home cooked food made by a loving parent. For Cyborg, the hum of the engine means he's home. It means he is where he's supposed to be. And just a couple years past, the young athlete never would've guessed that this is where he would feel at home.

The engine sounds from under the hood of a modified car of Cyborg's own creation. The car moves without direct piloting from the young man, connected to his half-machine mind. Victor stares out the drivers side window at his target. A small convoy of bank robbers. Although, he knows that money is far from their true goal. In fact, he would hesitate to even call them bank robbers.

They did indeed rob a bank, but they purposefully kept the amount they stole to a minimum, to minimize police response. And the bank robbery in itself was to distract from their true crime. A scan from Victor's cybernetic eye reveals technology that can affect the weather in serious ways. From what Victor can surmise, it was an inside job. Only the local STAR labs would have anything of the sort. And not even their silent alarm was triggered. And they have several.

As for the robbers, they finish their hard left and attempt to use a nearby tunnel to lose the Cyborg. But he cannot be deterred so easily. Upon entering the tunnel, one of the culprits fires a sonic weapon at the roof of the tunnel, nearly collapsing the structure and leaving a pile of rubble in their wake. But he is not deterred. With but a thought he commands his vehicle to take to the air, springing up on jets and flying over the concrete debris.

And the young man behind the wheel barely reacts, simply moving to the next phase of his plan, divide and conquer. Leaning out of the side window, Victor's cybernetic arm shifts and changes in response to his own thoughts. Changing to his bread and butter in fighting crime. The sonic cannon. Very similar to the technology being used by those he's chasing. His left eye targets the back tires of the first vehicle and safely immobilizes them in one shot, leaving them trapped in a tunnel for the pursuing police.

The remaining two cars bank a right, just as predicted. The right side window slides open and Cyborgs right arm changes, this time into a claw. It fires, and the teen driver orders his vehicle to pull back and keep the attached car on their turning trajectory. Directly into a telephone pole. At the speeds he calculated, they'll walk away with minor injuries, but more than likely stay put until authorities arrive. Finally, the lead car. The one carrying the weather manipulation tech and the man carrying a military grade sonic weapon.

>Continued

>>2274248
Piece of cake, is all he thinks. His car speeds up, effortlessly outpacing the criminals vehicle. Spinning on it's advanced axis, the car swings in front of the other vehicle. Cyborg grins wide as he comes face to face with the shocked rogue scientists. "Yo, your Uber drivers here!!"

Pumping the break with a kind of mechanical accuracy that few living beings can achieve, he causes the criminals car to crash just hard enough into the nose of his own. They tip forward , their back wheels leaving the asphalt for just a moment before slamming back down. Any people in the car are either groaning in pain or out cold from the impact. Victor takes a step out of his car for a moment. Just to admire his work.

Then of course, the Chicago police department catches up. The young hero has been in this city for a couple of weeks now, so the police are at least used enough to him to not stare at his platinum plated visage. Victor's cybernetic eye informs him that their heartrates are more or less normal when they look at him. Which is a good enough sign that his help was welcome.

At least, from most. An officer with a single hand on his pistol is detected behind Victor by his inner systems and he is alerted to him. "This is the last time I'm gonna say it, super hero. While you're in Chicago, you leave the police work to the police. You wanna destroy the city and catch bad guys, you head to Gotham, or preferably the other side of the country. Try Central."

Victor turns to face him, grin still on his face. "Actually man, by my calculation. I saved the city approximately twenty-thousand dollars in damages, civilian injuries and police resources. You didn't fire a single shot out of the pistol in your hand, did you?"

Minimal raised heartrate, flushed cheeks, increased perspiration. Embarrassment. Before another word can be said, a high ranking officer approaches him, dabbing sweat from his forehead with his tie. His old trenchcoat and strip of graying hair gives away how long he's been on the force. "Well, I think you oughta quit while you're behind, officer Davis."
>>
>>2274250
The old cop waves cheekily as Davis storms off, and Victor offers his hand, thankful for his good timing. "Thanks officer Friendly."

"It's Harris, actually. Detective Harris. Y'know, plenty of the boys and girls at the department have been complaining about you. We saw you on the news. Making laps around the country, we figured you be here sooner or later."

"Victor Stone. And I can tell them what I tell every other states PD, if you've got an issue with me doing what you do faster and more efficiently. Get your arm replaced with a sonic cannon, so handy." His right hands spins around at the wrist to punctuate that point.

The detective's brow only rises in response at first. "You're pretty open with your name for a vigilante."

The teen shrugs. "Look at me. This ain't an alter ego, this is who I am, all the time. I'm Victor, but I'm always Cyborg too."

"Well then, Cyborg. I'm willing to bet that you're the only one in this state with a any inclination of the connections between all of these STAR labs robberies. What do you think? Want to compare notes over a box of donuts?"

He almost says no. The police have been indifferent to him at best on the east coast. But can he turn away a friendly face? No. It's what his father would do. "Alright detective. And don't let the metal fool you, I can pack it away. Good thing I made some room on your budget!"

It's almost like the open void. Is what Koriand'r of Tamaran thinks as she sits in the eye of a powerful camera. Her body is doing what she's here to to do, she poses various ways, even shows off her ultra-violet powers a couple times for the theme of the shoot. Multiple cameras take as many pictures as they can while the princess moves and poses, twinkling all around her. This is what reminds her of space, of a sea of indifferent stars in an infinite inky black.

She can feel the heat rolling off of the woman next to her. Beatriz Bonilla da Costa. The hero known as Fire. But she tells her friends to call her BB. Or Bea. Koriand'r can't help but smile when she looks at this woman. Who shines so brightly, uninhibited by anyone or anything, refusing to quiet the flame inside. Using their powers, they create unique photos together, the emerald light of their abilities mesh well together.

Soon, the photoshoot comes to an end. And Beatriz makes her usual rounds. She discusses her favorite photos with the lead photographer, she helps with the set, she chats with the crew, makes sure everyone is paid. It's just who she is, overflowing with kindness. Koriand'r saves a particular photo for herself, this shoot had both heroines in costume. Beatriz' emerald green hair aflame like the Tamaranean princess'. Full grin on display.

"Kori? Are you ready for lunch?" By her side is another woman that she has come to know and admire just as much. Tora Olafsdotter. The constant companion of Fire, she is know simply as Ice. A slightly younger woman than Beatriz, but still older than Koriand'r. She thinks of her beauty to be quiet, almost hidden. As opposed to Beatriz. Hers is loud and proud. Demands to be heard. But she is more like the flowers of her homeworld, silent, and pale. Like her hair. You may miss them. But you'll regret it.

"Of course Tora! I must simply change first." Koriand'r and Beatriz change out of their 'work clothes' and join Tora quickly. Going out to eat is a regular occurrence for the trio, they even live together now. They take off onto the streets in a cherry red sports car, Beatriz' vehicle. She is a terrible driver, but Tora insisted they do not rely on their powers for everything. Beatriz constantly teases her about her true reason being that she is the only on in their small sisterhood who cannot fly.

There's more than enough places to eat in Rio de Janeiro, but their regular spot is a small, family owned restaurant that Beatriz has been visiting since she was a small girl. A place they frequent so much that the owner brings them their usual without them even having to ask. Leaving them only with a wink.

>Continued
>>
>>2274253
The conversation goes back and forth, work, and play, and their other work. Speaking on Koriand'r's progress makes Beatriz almost nostalgic for the events of a year past. She was on the beach for a photoshoot, the day was like any other summer day in Rio. The sun giving her energy, sand sticking to her skin. Then her photographer sees something in the distance through his camera. An object hurtling for the ocean, trail of black smoke and flames behind it.

She didn't even have to think. Beatriz sprung into action, rocketing across the water. Tora joined her shortly after, effortlessly skating across an icy path on the water. Beatriz pushes the sinking craft from the water through her strength and Tora cools the metal and pulls the occupant to relative safety on her miniature island of ice.

The two tried speaking to the young alien, both Portuguese and English. Tora even attempted her mother tongue of Norwegian. But Koriand'r didn't respond to any of them, and then...

"And then- and then! She smooched you right on the lips!" Beatriz is nearly drawing people's attention with her laughter while Tora easily turns a pale shade of pink.

"Excuse me, if I'm not as free-spirited as you Beartiz! It was just to learn our languages." The white-haired girl sighs. "And that was my first too..."

Koriand'r is still a bit of an outsider when it comes to the nuances of human interaction. But she's been assured that when she has a question. She should just ask. "What is so special about the first?"

Both Fire and Ice take a moment to think and look at each other. Tora clears her throat, more so to banish her secondhand embarrassment then then to speak clearly. "Well, it should be with someone special-"

Beatriz interjects. "Yes yes, someone special. And hot."

"What I mean is- someone who is special to you. Someone you care for a great deal." Tora continues.

But Beatriz just waves her romantic sensibilities away. "Which is all well and good until he slobbers on you like a stray dog because he's had no practice. You should think about that Tora, I'd be willing to help you!~"

While her friends and mentors bicker, Kori raises her hand for a question. Confused. And they stop their back and forth to allow her to voice her question. "I am confused. I believe that I am both 'hot' and special. So what's wrong with me?"
>>
>>2274255
Again, the two best friends simply look at each other. And erupt into laughter, while Koriand'r simply tilts her head in confusion. Hours later, Koriand'r is walking the streets of Rio. This time, without her friends. She likes to walk when she has time. To see and meet the people of the city. To play with children in the streets. Chat with mothers performing errands. Help construction workers with their latest beautification efforts. Though she walks about in civilian clothes she is hard to miss.

People stop to chat with her on every road, every corner. And soon, her walk brings her to one of the main streets of the city. She becomes curious upon seeing people making way hurriedly. Seeing over the crowd by floating a few feet above the ground, she spots an armed convoy with a limo in the middle, being amply protected. The young alien lands promptly and sneers, as a princess, she was taught that your people are precious. You are nothing without them. But the rulers in this country don't see it that way.

It's almost enough to make her ignore the glint of strange light coming from a far away building. Erring on the side of caution. She takes off for the light, ignoring the guns of the convoy below pointing at her. The light shifts as she approaches, almost quivers. Then, a shot. it ripples through the air, almost unseen. Kori dodges it barely but just the force of it almost knocks her out of the air. She stops holding back, zooming into the invisible object and crashing through the old building.

She slides to a halt on top of the shooter and raises a glowing fist. But he's already subdued, having been injured by the crash. He's wearing some sort of mechanical suit. He moans in pain. "They told me, no one see me, no one..."

English, not Portuguese. "Who! Who told you?! Why did you do this?!" The man passes out before she can question him. She leaves him, to examine the weapon he dropped. It's certainly not anything most people should be able to get their hands on. Advanced, powerful. Maybe even alien. This is worrying. Rio is chaotic enough without someone selling powerful weapons to the desperate. But she will not despair, she will not stand aside. For she is no longer alone. And the people of the world that has accepted her, will have the might of Starfire on their side.

One would think that being an animal is a strange experience. At least, this is what Garfield Logan always thought other people think about him. That and, look at that green kid. His talons grip the edge of the building he perches on as he prepares himself to take flight. He's been watching a man prepare fish for the past hour for sale. The idea of eating it sickens him, but he's not the only one that needs to eat right now.

He sees his chance. Leaping off of the roof at speeds that most of the natural world envies. All the fisherman sees is a green peregrine falcon diving and taking off with his fish. He even gives chase somewhat beyond his stall but there's no way he's catching up with the fastest bird in the world. Garfield lands outside of the village, changing from bird to horse in an instant. His mass inflating at speeds that would drive most scientists mad.

First, he takes the time to pick up a bag in his teeth along with the bundle of fish he took before he takes off. The hidden bag is full of fruits and vegetables both harvested and stolen. When Garfield first found himself in this situation, he swore not to steal. But hunger made him change his mind. And the need to keep moving forced his practicality to make the moral decision for him.

After a bit of a gallop through the snow, he arrives at his current home. An abandoned barn. Which he thought was hilarious at first. His partner in this, not so much. He morphs back to his human form and pokes his head through the door. "Hey Tara, it's me. Finally got some more food."

At first, there's no response. Garfield carefully enters the barn and closes the rotten wood door behind him. Once he starts unpacking the food, a thin figure emerges from the shadows of one of the corners of the room. Her golden blonde hair contrasting against her extremely modest clothing. She accepts the package of fish wordlessly and prepares to cook it on a set of small kitchenware, built for portability. Most likely camping. But that is far from what they're doing.

The two of them have a bit of a cycle. Garfield will leave after she finds them safe lodgings, he scouts and gathers food. Maybe information. When he returns they prepare the food to eat or to last long for travel, and they have a meal together. And she is quiet now, very quiet. Which Garfield thinks odd since she has a solid grasp on English now. Which is why he nearly jumps when she speaks. "Thank you, Garfield."

"Wha? Oh yeah- totally, I mean. It's not that big a deal right? We do what we can, right?"

"This is true, but what I mean is, thank you for the risk you took. You still take." The blonde girl rests next to Garfield as she picks cooked fish off of an aluminum plate. "You act as if you had no choice, to leave the life you knew to help me. But you did. And that is why I thank you. So, do not be modest."

It's times like these when Garfield is happy it's difficult to see the blood rushing to his cheeks. "Haha! You really sounded like a for real princess just now, y'know?"

She quirks an eyebrow, face completely stoic. "So, you are saying I am not sounding like a real princess at all times?"

"I uh- I just meant- Aw geez." Garfield's ears droop the slightest amount.

Tara let's out a rare laugh at the sight. Sending Garfield's ear right back up. "How come I can never get you to laugh at one of my jokes?"

"Hmm, perhaps we'll never know, Beast Boy." Tara and Garfield spend their usual kind of night together after that. Taking turns on watch duty. One by turning into various small animals and patrolling the surrounding forest. The other by reaching into the earth and feeling the vibrations of everything walking upon it nearby.

It's Garfield's final shift for the night. He scampers across the branches of the thick canopy in the form of a squirrel. He hates even to admit to himself that he will miss the french countryside when he's gone. It's very peaceful. In a beautiful country. But he dare not say anything of the sort on front of the displaced princess. She's lost an entire country. No loss of his compares. Is what he thinks.

When he sleeps, he dreams of the family he left behind, he dreams of the Doom Patrol. He dreams of sleepless nights watching old television shows with Cliff. He dreams of the lessons on acting and advice on talking to girls with Rita. He dreams of playing pranks on Larry, and receiving them in turn. He dreams of school lessons with Steve, the laughs they shared, the lessons he taught. The real ones, the ones that will stay with him.

He wonders why they would go so far. Chase him across a country to have one girl. But when Steve looked into his mind to control him, it was a two-way street. He saw what he had in store for the princess. A life as a tool. One used to grant power. And he turned the rest of the team against him. Did he somehow reach the rest of their minds, he was never that strong, was he? It doesn't matter at this point. All Garfield Logan knows it that he's on the run from the ones he used to call family.

Once the morning comes, they pack up, they resume their usual places. Garfield scouts while Tara walks, staying out of sight. For fear that someone will recognize the missing princess. "Where are we going?" Tara asks finally, after months of wandering.

"As far as we can get. Just, away." Garfield can't think of anywhere they'd be safer. Just keeping distance is all he know will help. All that they can do right now, at any rate.

"What after that?" She asks, actually giving him pause. He did think about it. What their only hope is. Knowing Steve, he can find them anywhere. So they need to be untouchable. They need protection. They need the League.

Darkness.

But not the kind she's used to. No, this is more mundane. But still oppressive, crushing. She walks, nothing to guide her but her earthly senses. Smell, it's horrible. A mix of rainwater and garbage. Human filth. Disgust wells up inside the girl before she pushes it down in an instant. Nothing can escape. Slip through. Nothing. Not while she still runs, not while he's still watching.

Light. She can see it, at the end of the tunnel. She might laugh if she could afford it. Even a bitter one. But she trudges on ahead, silently. When she finds herself out in the light, the surroundings are disappointing to say the least. The light she followed from darkness was a flickering street lamppost on a higher level. She appears to have landed herself inside of a waterway this time. Explains the smell of garbage.

The sound of someone roughly clearing their throat causes her to whip around maybe a little too fast. Don't react harshly, always in moderation. Never allow your heart to show. The homeless man who just coughed out some black sludge and the girl share a tense look before he goes back to lighting a cheap cigarette. And that would explain the other smells, she thinks.

She looks up, trying to find any identifier for where she landed this time. She spies old architecture, she hears belligerent drivers and pedestrians. One look to her left and she spies a gargoyle, uttering a silent scream at nothing in particular. The chilly night air causes her to shiver, for just a moment, and she smell rain. Gotham, Rachel thinks. She's been to the city more than once. And if her soul self were not run ragged, she could simply feel the energy of this place.

Gotham is very dark. A city steeped in it's own blood. Anyone in tune to the realms beyond could smell Gotham from miles away. It's not the first time she's been here. But she arrived entirely by accident this time. Or, she thinks. Something brought her here. Magic is never entirely logical. Control is only an illusion. She almost laughs, the words of her mother have been branded inside of her mind. One of the only things keeping her going.

But for now she must rest. She sits next to the smoking man, her ripped cloak making her look as though belongs next to the modern vagrant. Even the murky waters in front of her reflect her pale face. Her dark hair. Even her own reflection reminds her of her mother. She pushes down yet again on a sticky mire of sadness in her own heart. Nothing can be allowed to surface, nothing.

"Raven."

She freezes. Even her soul-self is paralyzed at the mere sound of the voice. Half belonging to the man whose mind he dominates, half his own, echoing out from the pit. She doesn't look. Doesn't move. But she can feel the red eyes of the smoking vagrant on her.

"I am almost proud of your ability to elude me and my devoted slaves. Almost. Know this, my daughter. While I cannot reach you now, this will not, cannot last. You will be brought to heel before me. And you will fulfill your purpose."

Raven wraps herself in dark black, her soul-self reacting more on survival instinct than any given command. And she disappears. As she has been for what feels like so long now. The raven takes flight once more. Knowing that one day, she will fall within the grasp of the true lord of Hate, of Darkness. Ruler of the pit. She will be Trigon's will made manifest.

It is only a matter of time.

Metron ponders the meanings of minuscule differences in each universe. No matter how small, they always cause great waves of change. And even then, in this world. There is an agent of change, on Earth-Q. Whether they realize it or not.
