Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: A small ocean-side clearing on Tabo Island

Recently: You and Laki are double-battling Kat and Robin

>“Nothing blasphemous.” Keira repeats, holding up a finger.
>“Oh God. Oh gods!” Hana yells. It’s much louder now. You suspect she must have been biting a pillow before and now she’s lost it. “YOUR DICK IS MY GOD!”

When are we going to induct Keira into the faith? And by faith I mean dick, if you grok my highly obscure implications.

You take a moment to catch your breath. You didn’t even realize you were short on it until your brain manually checked in on your body. That last exchange was really something else. Mace was close to overpowering Ninetails!

Despite being down to your last Pokemon, you have a sense for the first time that you have a realistic shot at winning this battle. Laki has only lost Mace so far, although Sorbet was probably an inch away from being knocked out when she was forced off of the field.

You glance at your opponents. Ninetails looks tired and worn down. There’s still a lot of fight left in it, but it’s no longer an unstoppable force. Nibbles doesn’t seem to be paralyzed, which you were hoping for when it got hit by Lightning, but he also looks like he’s taken damage. Yet he doesn’t look tired at all. In fact, it just looks like you’ve gotten his attention. Instead of goofing around and scratching himself like he was earlier, he’s now lazily slapping his tail and watching you and Laki. He’s taking the fight seriously. It’s a compliment, but it also means you’ll have a much harder time getting any tricks or good plays in.

Your and his eyes meet for an uncomfortable moment. You feel a strange connection, but also intense fear. He sees you as someone he doesn’t have to be gentle with. You turn your eyes away and look to Kat. She peels her eyes off of Laki and gives you an identical look.

Now you get it. These are champions. That overpowering aura has been roused out of it’s sleep. It’s not a dissimilar feeling than that of Rayquaza. And so you’re immunized just a little, and able to keep eye contact for a moment.

“Um, kids?” Robin asks. That takes you out of it. Right.

“Go Wailord!” you shout, throwing the pokeball that releases the massive pokemon. For a second you’re distracted by the thought that it’s so strange that you can toss out a pokemon that huge. Sure, you’re using a pokeball, but it still feels surreal. It glances back at you, happy to say hello.

“You’re up, Bella!” Laki shouts. Belladonna scrambles right up your back and launches herself off the top of your head, extremely eager to get onto the field. You’re almost knocked over from the force.

The sunlight is still bright and harsh. That’s good for Bella. The battlefield is mostly open, but there's a long staggered line of rocks now cutting part of the left and right sections in half from Rock Slide.

“Wailord! Surf!” You command. And Wailord summons up a huge mass of water to crash on your opponents.

You’re thankful of your time spent helping that Taurus. Because of it, Wailord, and some of your pokemon, learned how to direct it. You don’t have to worry about hitting Belladonna. But it’s going to be awhile before Wailord’s move comes into play.

Ninetails moves before anyone, firing off an Ember at Belladonna. Laki and Bella are caught unprepared for the speed of the attack, and Bella, having leaped up onto Wailord, is almost knocked back off. That looked like it hurt a lot!

“Shit.” Laki mutters. “We can’t use Toxic because of Imprison.” She says, watching Kat and Robin.

“How do you know?”

“They didn’t use Safeguard and Kat had Ninetails use Ember instead of a stronger move. Think about it. If they were worried about Toxic, they’d either put Safeguard back up again, or use a stronger Fire move to take her out in one hit. She used Ember because it’s not draining on Ninetails. She’s thinking about the long term stamina.”

Robin and Kat exchange a look. It seems that they’re impressed with Laki. You feel a slight tinge of worry that you’re being overshadowed in their eyes, but that’s nothing compared to the pride you have for Laki.

“Nibbles!” Robin cries out. “Thunder Fang that Wailord!”

Laki’s eyes shoot open for a second, and she makes her decision. “Poison Jab, Bella! Let’s go!”

Bella kicks herself off of Wailord, and leaps at Nibbles. Because he’s already stomping towards and leaping at Wailord, and his attack is ready to hit a slow easy target, he’s easily open for Bella to zip under his belly and give him a quick jab. He of course barely registers it as Bella lands, but Laki looks excited at the success.

Immediately after, he crunches onto Wailord to great effect. Wailord flinches and cries out as the electric shock runs through it.

“Wailord!” Laki yells.

The water summoned from Surf splashes all around harmlessly. The attack fell apart once the poor pokemon was bitten. Both pokemon come crash down onto the wet ground, but the crash itself looked like it didn’t hurt either. Nibbles quickly gets onto his feet, and Wailord gets itself together again and ready for another try.

“Good job, Nibbles!” Robin praises. “Your Flinch training paid off!”

Kat looks very proud. You guess that’s just how champions are. It feels a bit unfair, though.

“Wailord’s tough.” Laki says. “And hey. Look. We poisoned Nibbles.”

She’s right! That’s why she used Poison Jab! You can see the effect clear as day from here. “We just need to take out Ninetails, then try to survive Nibbles until poison takes him down.” You whisper.

“Easier said than done, but yeah.” She smirks.

Ninetails is covered by a protective bubble. It’s used that move a few times now, but you guess that makes sense considering the circumstances.

Nibbles stops in his tracks to start stomping up and Earthquake. It looks silly for a second, until you feel it in the ground. Then it’s terrifyingly powerful.

“Wailord!” You hesitate for just the briefest of seconds, looking to Laki. “Bounce!”

Laki has a question on her face for just a second before she lights up. “Right. Bella! Bella! Grab on!”

The ground breaks up right around Belladonna’s feet, but she leaps into the air a fraction of a second before it gets her. Up and over Nibbles, she sails towards Wailord.

Wailord flattens himself down on the ground, then explodes upwards. Up and away! Belladonna barely catches onto his tail and the two of them avoid the Earthquake.

The attack harmlessly breaks around Ninetails’ protective shield, then she casually looks upwards as it fades away.

“Uh oh.” Laki says. You look up and see what she’s worried about. It seems that Wailord launched himself up with a bit of a roll, so that when Belladonna grabbed onto his tail, she was catapulted up even higher than him. She’s way, way way higher up! You even lose sight of her.

“It’s okay.” Robin says, squinting with one eye. “Umm, well, for now. She looks very happy and isn’t panicking. I hope you have a plan for when she comes down. We could call the match if you-”

“No way!” Laki shouts! “Bella can win this single handedly now!”

You look at her. She smiles, but looks worried, too. “Sunny Day is still in effect. If she uses Growth while she’s up there, she’ll come down with so much power that even these two will be blown away! But that means Wailord has to stall.”

Wailord is still up in the air thanks to Bounce. From the way he got off the ground, you know he’s going to hit his target fairly hard. Still, you could take a risk and have him do something else while he’s up there.

“Ninetails, use Solar- Crap!” Kat shouts, looking at the shadow over the Ninetails that’s forming thanks to Wailord’s colossal shadow. “Nevermind! Substitute!”

“Aim for Ninetails and Rest! Hurry!” You shout to Wailord at the same time.

You and Kat exchange a look. You guess neither of you expected that. Wailord absolutely destroys the substitute with his sleeping body as he crashes down. Ninetails leaps into a fighting stance a small distance away, safe but clearly very drained at this point.

“Good job!” You say to Wailord, despite the fact that it can’t hear you.

You brace for the incoming attack from Nibbles, but instead, Robin focuses up in the sky, and has Nibbles use Stealth Rock.

“What’s she doing?” Laki asks.

You watch how the Stealth Rocks form. She’s not worrying about Wailord at all! Instead, Robin is stacking an explosive minefield in the way of Belladonna when she comes back.

“Bella’s going to get shredded when she comes down!” Laki says.

“Robin! Time isn’t on our side.” Kat says, sounding almost nervous. “Ninetails! Dream Eater!”

You feel a bit disheartened seeing Ninetails pull that move on poor sleeping Wailord! How many moves does that pokemon know! Kat and Ninetails were so casual about it too.

“Again!” Robin orders, and Nibbles complies, stacking even more rocks. She turns to Kat. “I know. But they’re up to something. Wailord is a distraction to stall. Roserade is going to pull something big.”

Laki flinches, confirming their assessment without meaning too.

You feel helpless! Ninetails just healed up a bunch of health off of Wailord with Dream Eater, and Belladonna faces an impenetrable barrier of explosive rocks on her way down. It’s like no matter what you try they’re always a step ahead!

Belladonna is coming down. It’s hard to see what’s going on up there thanks to the very bright sunlight. She’s been way out of shouting range, so whatever she’s been doing up there is up to her own judgement.

Wailord’s eye slowly opens.

>Wailord can sacrifice himself by Bouncing into those Stealth Rocks

“Get ready with Fire Fang.” Robin tells Nibbles.

Laki looks worried now.

“Get ready with Hypnosis for Wailord.” Kat says. “Put him back to sleep as soon as he opens his eyes.”

“Wailord! Grab it and Bounce! Now!”

To everyone’s surprise, Wailord moves quickly and bites at Ninetails. Ninetails scrambles back in a panic but he manages to get it’s tail and Bounces.

“Ninetails!” Robin shouts. Wailord spins in the air with it as they fly up. And in all the confusion, Wailord somehow manages smash Ninetails against a series of Stealth Rocks.

It’s unclear if Hypnosis landed or not. But what is clear is that Ninetails just opened a path for Belladonna. But what comes through first isn’t her. It’s a hailstorm of Bullet Seed that rains down on Nibbles. He roars and is forced to look away as they pelt him.

Bella cheers triumphantly as she lands on his head, firing bullet after bullet at the mighty dinosaur. But Nibbles is quickly able to get control of himself, and with some surprising flexibility, grabs Belladonna and bites down hard with Fire Fang.

She falls at his side, hurt badly. She stumbles forward a bit, then takes a knee to steady herself.

“Belladonna is out!” Abigail rules.

Laki is about to protest, when Bella falls over.

Ninetails forces itself up. It’s legs shake. You feel almost robbed. How can Bella be out but Ninetails is still up? What are they made out of?

“Look.” Laki points out. Nibbles wavers and shakes his head. Bella’s attack, while sloppy, still hurt him thanks to her using Growth a few times. And because all those bullets hit him instead of the Stealth Rocks, it was all the better. “Don’t get discouraged. We’re winning this. Good job, Bella.”

She’s right. Both of the opposing pokemon are down to their last legs. Ninetails is obviously much more hurt, but both of them are showing that they’ve taken quite a beating. Still, you’re not as optimistic about Nibbles as Laki is. He seems to have been able to shrug off a lot before even showing any sign of slowing down.

Wailord looks like he’s gotten a second wind after that magnificent attack.

“Go Gobble!” Laki commands. He rushes out. “Hopefully they don’t Protect again. I think we’ve forced their hand to go on the offensive.”

Gobble punches his palm while his Silk Scarf waves in the wind. On man he looks so stylish and cool! As he casually approaches Wailord’s side, you know it’s on. It’s like they’re Team Bulk or something! The image they give off is like two sumo wrestler pals ready to take names!

“Surf!” You command.

“Focus Punch that Tyrantrum!” Laki yells out.

“Confuse Ray!” Kat commands.

“Rock Slide both of them!” Robin says.

Nobody is waiting around. Everyone is eager to have their pokemon move first now.

Confuse Ray lands first on Wailord as he starts to summon Surf. It must not be that effective because he’s still pulling off the move! Alright!

Gobble charges up his Focus Punch as the rocks harmlessly fall around him. Looks like Nibbles missed! Awesome! The rocks do hit Wailord though.

“We’ve got your back, Gobble! Get ready to follow up Surf with your fist!” You’re so excited! This is going to be great! Gobble starts into a run with his fist back, ready to go!

But something goes wrong. So horribly wrong! Wailord really is confused after all! Surf crashes onto Gobble, knocking him forward and throwing off his attack and making him stumble!

The other section of Wailord’s Surf falls out from under him, and he drops himself hard onto the ground next to Ninetails. Oh man, he hurt himself in his confusion!

A small mercy falls on you though, as the harsh sunlight finally fades. But now Gobble and Wailord are in a very tough position, and almost certain to take a beating right away.

Laki looks annoyed. She doesn’t direct it at you or Wailord though, and does her best to not show it. “We can still do this.”

There’s something about the way Nibbles looks down at Gobble that tells you that Gobble is going to be in trouble in a second. And having used Surf a few times, you suspect Wailord’s ability to continue to use it is diminished for awhile.

“Ninetails! Disable!” Kat yells out. Gosh she’s annoying to fight! Every other move is something that has a status effect or frustrates any plans you might have. Now you can’t use Surf!

Robin looks a little sad as she issues her command. “We can’t take a chance. I’m sorry. Nibbles, use Superpower!”

“GOBBLE!” Laki yells.

But something goes wrong! Because of all the water everywhere, and his stompy nature, Nibbles’ foot is stuck in the mud for a second and that causes him to stumble forward, past Gobble. He lands Superpower on one of the big rocks from the previous Rock Slides. They explode all over him, hurting him somewhat. What’s better, is that Wailord seems to have snapped out of it thanks to it!

“Well okay then.” Laki relaxes. “Gobble! Body Slam!”

Gobble unfortunately misses his attack thanks to a last minute lucky stumble from Nibbles.

Robin squirms, looking visibly nervous. Kat seems a little distracted, watching her wife. She gives her a brief pat to calm her down. Awww. That’s sweet that they still have the romance there even during a fight like this.

But you can’t let that distract you. Wailord! Rollout instead!”

Wailord rolls out at his opponent, and somehow, despite a pretty sloppy roll in the mud, manages to connect and bowl over the Fire pokemon. Everyone pauses for a moment, waiting to see if it gets up or Kat has some surprise plan. But no. Ninetails is just knocked out.

“Ninetails is unable to battle.” Abigail announces.

“Ah, Sorry, Ninetails.” Kat says, a little embarrassed. “I didn’t predict it that well. I thought Surf was coming again. You did well though.”

“Woah.” You hear from Clair. She cups her hands to make a megaphone and then yells to Kat and Robin. “You guys are getting rusty.”

Kat playfully offers Clair a very obscene gesture in return.

“We can do it, Nibbles.” Robin encourages the Pokemon. You're impressed at its staying power. Despite the poison and many blows, it’s still eager to continue fighting.

“Wailord! Rest up!” You tell it. “Get your strength back.”

You guess you don’t need to tell him twice, because he happily falls asleep in his little muddy rut he’s found himself in.

Robin pokes her fingers together. “No time to be nice! Head Smash!”

“Body Slam again, Nibbles! If paralyze it, we’re safe for sure!”

Nibbles plants his face into the mud to no effect, and Gobble leaps up and body slams into the mud, to no effect. Both pokemon seem to be having a lot of trouble moving around in there. The grand, epic battle that you were experience just moments ago has turned into a complete circus.

Nibbles pulls it’s head from the mud, looking like a mess. The poison and extended battle time have clearly done a number on him, but he’s not giving up yet.

“Forget Body Slam.” Laki says. “I think we can finish this.”

Surprisingly, Wailord opens his eyes. Looks like that was the perfect environment for him to fully heal quickly. Not that’s a pleasant surprise!

Laki seems to be sizing Nibbles up for a moment, and comes to a decision. ”Gobble, I lied! Use Lick!”

Robin gasps. “You did?” Despite her battle experience and knowledge, she seems taken off guard by this. You guess she’s just weak to people like Kat and Laki that like to mess with people. At least, that’s the impression you can from Kat’s general aura.

Ha. You sound like a aura reader. You just mean that she has an air about her that’s a bit playful and underhanded. Not in a bad way, it’s just that you wouldn’t be surprised by her pulling a trick or teasing someone.

Gobble leaps up, licking Nibbles’ face. The shocking and surprise move works great, paralyzing the already poisoned, weakened foe.

“Don’t let up! Whirlpool!”

You can’t help but mentally compare the big swirling area of mud around Nibbles to a flushing toilet. It’s gross, but that’s what it looks like to you. Nibbles is jerked around from it, throwing his game off a little.

“Nibbles! Superpower!” Robin reacts. And even if it’s not nearly as technically impressive as Gobble’s lick, it does the job. Nibbles grabs Gobble and headbutts him so hard with a strong fighting aura that he’s knocked right out! You almost suspect that if his feet were more balanced, it would have been even more powerful.

“I can’t believe it.” Laki says, surprised. “That thing is a monster.”

Nibbles roars. But it’s a weak roar. He’s at the end of his rope. You just need to do a little more.

“Dice! You’re up! Don’t let your guard down for a second.”

Dice happily belly-flops into the mud, happy to be involved. He’s not nearly as concerned as he should be.

“Something’s wrong.” Laki says. “Robin was faking her surprise.”

“She was?”

“Yeah. Trust me. If she were flustered she’d at least try to hide it. Even you do that cute thing where you turn away and hide your face.”

“I do?”

Laki takes her eyes off the field for a second to look at you. Now she look a little flustered. “Not the time, Soft Hands.”

Right. If Robin’s faking it, you really need to be careful. You can’t imagine what sort of plan she’s ready to unleash. What could it be, though? Nibbles is going to be easy to attack and can’t move well, and he’s very clearly on his last legs. Even if she takes out both pokemon, Laki still has more. It doesn’t make any sense!

Robin seems to have some sort of mental calculation all done. “Nibbles. Use rest.”

“Fuck me.” Laki says in disbelief. “Dice! Ice Fang! Hurry!”

“You too, Wailord! I-I mean, not Ice Fang, but Water Pulse! Hurry!”

Dice leaps up, and with a ice crystal forming on his fang, bites down hard on Nibbles. It’s just barely manages to land, but a hit is a hit! It’s super effective, as weak as that initial attack is.

Nibbles looks frustrated and pressed, but not out yet.

Then Water Pulse strikes him in the back. He reels and stumbles, then falls right over into the mud, Dice still holding onto his arm.

Whirlpool comes around with another big splash. And it seems just in time, too, because that’s exactly the extra tiny bit of damage needed to take him out. Instead of his eyes closing in peaceful rest, they shoot open! You almost think he’s going to go on a rampage, but just just sort of goes weakly limp.

There’s a long pause, as you all watch just to be sure he's not using Rest funny.

“Nibbles is unable to battle!” Abigail says distantly.

“You did well.” Robin compliments, returning him in a pokeball.

There’s a sharp crack from the audience. You turn to see Jane having punched a tree, taking out a small chunk of bark and bloodying your knuckle. She quickly hides it in embarrassment before anyone but you notices.

Laki is stunned. “We did it.”

“You sure did.” Kat says, closing the distance. “That was some impressive battling.”

You try not to let it go to your head all at once, and remind yourself that you had an army of pokemon against their two. Still, it feels like a real accomplishment.

Poor Jane. I’m sure she knows that we had a better ratio of pokemon than she did, but, well...

She’s probably got to feel a bit like Hana right now. It can be hard to feel special when all your friends around you are kicking ass and having fulfilling relationships and are well respected and get to just fucking stumble into superpowers and the patronage of the right gods.

But at least she’s self-aware. If she wasn’t, she wouldn’t be embarrassed.

Now we get to get pointers!

Constructive criticism is the best part, followed closely by celebration-banging.

I’m glad we got to show off all of Laki’s and our Pokémon and get them all some experience.

I think I’m going to be pretty sated as far as battles go for a bit though.

I’m looking forwards to more bonding with our girls and seeing what, if anything, our aura tutelage has gained us.

Im looking forwards to getting picked up and swing around in a hug by Laki tomorrow! Goodnight Gobble, and thanks!

Is it possible for Herb to end his journey as a champion level battler, or do you guys just plain not see that happening?

I sincerely doubt we'll ever be more than just above average competence just because our focus isn't really on it, but that's okay; not everyone is going to reach the pinnacle.

Of course, the question then becomes what ARE we going to become a master of? What would we say is our long-term goal? For example, we're not going to be the best battler, but maybe we can be one of the best chefs and aura masters on the planet. I have the urge to become the very best that no one ever was, and if we're not going to be a Pokemon Champion we need to be supreme champion of something.
>>
>>2283237
Get a shard from every island, have our Tookoo recorded in the eelilee caves, become an island elder.

I don’t think that should be Herb’s goal right now, but it seems like a natural conclusion to his path he’s walking towards becoming a respectable person.
>>
>>2283237
Herb himself is not a great battler. His pokes are fucking beasts though. Think about it

Mace is the super sonic rock who cannot be snuck up on and knows your moves before you do them, because he has seen them all.

Bella has a natural proclivity for draining and fighting in general. She's good at it an enjoys it.

Gobble is an exceptional munchlax, not just because of his one punch, but because of his willpower and ability to hold himself up or back.

Dice is a monster in water and could rival Nibbles in jaw strength once grown.

Honestly our mons are great, if Herb was more competitive he would annihilate.
>>
>>2283237
Master of culinary arts. Master of healing the sick. Laki dominates us every night.
>>
>>2283237
If we ever become a champion level battler it'll be because of our connection with our Mons and not because we are particularly fond of battling. I think our Mons will continue to grow because we are interested in helping the islands and just through travel our skills will be put to the test time and time again. I think it'll be Herb's relationship with Laki and Jane that will continue to push him as a battler.

Personally i want Herb to become Best Dad but that's outside the scope of the quest. An anon suggest a thread or two back that herb should create a safari on the island with all the mainland mons, so that islanders everywhere can safely meet and bond with Pokemon they have never scene before. Also Herb would run a cafe/restaurant on that island that can simply be described as amazing.

>>2283237
Right now I think the first main goal is really exploring what Herb wants to become because asserting himself and striving for his own goals have been tough for him all his life.

>>2283263
Agreed, the team is beast. If herb practices with Laki and Jane more he would easily become a great battler.

Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Laki’s face slowly changes from stunned to incredibly happy. There’s a look of absolute joy without any pretense or hiding that you rarely get to see fully displayed. “We did it!” She picks up up, spinning you and stuffing your face in a tight hug against her chest. As the spin continues, the centrifugal force separates you and your feet are lifted off the ground. You almost have a heart attack when she lets go, but you softly bounce against Wailord.

She did aim that, right?

“You did fantastic!” You tell the huge pokemon as you try to make your way to it’s face. It gives a happy half jump. It doesn’t really get off the ground, but it makes the general motion just softly enough to avoid shaking the ground. You’re impressed at how gentle he can be when he tries. You see Laki praising Dice on his brief but helpful contribution at the end, and then the both of you switch pokemon.

You of course make sure all the participants, yours and Laki, get a healthy heap of praise. They jumped into a brutally difficult fight knowing they’d probably get knocked out without hesitation.

“Muddying the ground was smart.” Kat says as she walks over to you and Laki. “Stopped a lot of things Nibbles could do, and really mitigated any Earthquake damage.”

Robin nods after applying a spray to Nibbles and Ninetails. “You both made a lot of great decisions.”

“Sorry.” Kat says. “About underestimating you early in the fight. We should have taken you more seriously. Pokemon battling is funny business, where you can’t judge someone’s ability just because they’re young.Or old. Or anything like that.”

Laki waves off their concerns. Not the way she usually does with feigned disinterest, but with that still joyous expression staying glued on her face. “It’s fine. I guess we sort of underestimated ourselves too.”

Kat and Robin exchange a look. It seems like Laki touched on something they both want to mention. But before they, they offer to use healing items on all your pokemon.

“Are you sure?” Laki asks. They’re presenting a small fortune worth of healing items. More than enough for your pokemon.

“Please.” Kat insists. “I haven’t felt a battle thrill like this in a long time.” She waves Jane over. “Hey, that includes you too.”

Jane is surprised and gives the slightest hint of bashfulness under her heavy scowl. She points to herself to make sure she heard that right. Tonight is big for unexpected reactions!

“Don't worry.” Kat says, still offering the healing items. “We’re not exactly hurting for money.”

“Kat!” Robin half whispers. “It’s uncouth to brag about that sort of thing.”

After some internal debate, you decide to heal your pokemon until you’re tired, then take a modest amount to save for emergencies. Nothing greedy, just a few extra things. You leave the rest.

Jeez, you thought you’d get more healing in, but you suppose it’s late and you’ve had a pretty tiring day. You don’t feel like you’ve advanced much in terms of healing this time, but you guess there’s always next time.

Kat, Robin, Clair, Jeanine, and Vance all watch with interest. You feel a little self conscious as they whisper and talk among themselves.

Jane takes nothing, using her own healing items instead. Laki eagerly scoops up as much as she can carry, thanking Kat and Robin.

“Just what you thought.” Kat says to Robin.

Laki freezes up, items pouring out from her arms. “Uh, did I fail a test?”

Kat laughs. “No. I like you, Laki. You fight like Robin.”

“I do?”

“Yeah. And you two,” Kat points to Jane and yourself, “fight like me.”

“I... you honor me.” Jane bows.

“Hey hey. None of that formal stuff. It makes me feel weird.” Kat lifts Jane’s chin. “Besides, don’t let it go to your head too much. I said you fight like me, not as good as me.” She rethinks how that sounds. “I just mean, we have similar styles. You two are good, though.”

“Similar styles?” You ask.

“Yeah. See, Laki here has keen eyes for her opponent's weaknesses. Her style is to get people to underestimate and drop their guard. She makes plans and lures you into traps. I bet you’ve studied opponents obsessively just to find a weakness on them, right?”

Laki glances over to Jane, looking a little exposed. “Yeah.”

“Exactly. You think about weaknesses, yours and mine, and you exploit them. You turn your own weaknesses into traps and blow holes in the ones you find in your opponents. But you two...” Kat holds her chin. “Your style is more like mine.”

“How so?”

“I’ll tell you, but I want to hear what you think first. What one reason comes to mind?”

The general theme is that we train our mons to be specialized at what they're good at, as opposed to someone like Robin or Laki that trains their mons to be adaptable and ready for any situation.

Kat was able to emulate the other style to an extent by having so many pokemon that she could swap in whoever the situation demanded. I did a quick look back, and Kat had 8 pokemon at thread 67 of quest 1, while Herb only has 5; not even a full team.

Kat points her fingers at Jane, waiting for an answer.

“Oh. I wouldn’t be able to presume your assessment. I-”

Kat rolls her eyes just a little, and points her fingers to you, looking for your answer.

“I guess it’s that we give them a lot of autonomy.” Kat’s eyes open and she gestures for you to go on. “And focus on their strengths! And we insp-”

“Yes! All that. I was looking for ‘focusing on their strengths’ but that all ties together. Good job! Gold stars for both of you!” Her tones isn’t as patronizing as most people when they talk like that.

“But Jane didn’t really answer.” Laki says.

“Ah, but that’s also a good answer because it helps me bring it into my second point. See, you two aren’t imposing your wills enough. If you have that sort of battle style, you need to learn to be more selfish.”

You and Jane exchange a confused look.

Laki looks offended though. “Hey, are you calling me selfish?”

As if to answer the question, a few of the huge mass of items that Laki took fall from her arms. She nonverbally retracts the question.

“A little, yeah. And that’s fine. It’s not your defining quality or anything, but it’s important as a trainer to be able to be more like...well, Laki here.’

“I should be more like Laki.” Jane repeats. You take a small, subtle step away from her.

“Okay, I’m phrasing this wrong.” Kat says. She puts an arm on you and Jane and walks you both away. You look back to hear Laki getting advice from Robin. “Here’s what I mean. You two strike me as pretty selfless people. I can tell.”

“I don’t know about that.” You say. “But isn’t that a good thing?”

“Sure. Sometimes. But stay with me here. So, can you think of something selfish in other people that you like?”

You think for a moment. Your eyes glance once again back to Laki, and how she gets dominant and goes for what she wants in bed without worrying about imposing on others. Oh jeez. “Um, yes.”

“Right. So when someone you like wants something, you generally want to help them get it, within reason. It gives you something to do for them. It makes you feel better. It inspires you to do something you wouldn’t normally do for yourself. And finally, it’s honest. If you can’t be open about wanting something once in awhile, or just imposing a little on those around you to get what you want, you’ll never get anywhere.”

“But I don’t want to impose on anybody.” You say.

“Well, sorry to say, but that’s life.” Kat tells you. “Sometimes you have to. And sometimes it’s good for those that look up to you. Power is the ability to effect change, and without imposing your will, you have no power. No power, no ability to do anything at all.”

“So we should just stomp our competition?” Jane asks. She’s half sarcastic, half eager to hear Kat confirm the question.

“No. Well, okay there were some times I did that and the people needed a good stomping.” She thinks back. “But what I’m trying, and failing to say I guess, is that you both need to become more comfortable with imposing yourselves. On your pokemon, on your friends, whatever. Lots of people have the opposite problem, but don’t worry about them. Worry about yourselves. Life is a game of give and take and you both don’t take.”

“You’re assuming a lot about us.” Jane says with a little suspicion. “And our motives.”

Kat stops walking and retracts her arms into a fold. “You started your journey not for your own dreams, but do impress someone. Win their approval or respect. You'll spend days working yourself to the bone if it means five minutes of your pokemon being mildly happier.”

Jane opens her mouth, but has no response. She looks down, hoping an answer might be on her shoes or the grass somewhere.

Kat turns to you. “You...You just do whatever you think will make people and pokemon around you happy. You haven’t really inconvenienced anyone in your group or asked anything from your pokemon that wasn’t what they already wanted.”

Have we got a confirmed timeline of how much time in-show has actually passed since he first left Pallet Town?

I know Adventures has a better relationship with temporal progression at least but considering everything, Ash has to have at least been on the road for a year or two.
>>
>>2283839
The narrator has stated that Ash is 10.
Then they had a celebration of 1year on their journey in a pikachu’s special.
Recently, the narrator has stated that Ash is 10.

He is eternal.
>>
>>2283839
Nope. Pure comic book time. The original series even had an episode about the one year anniversary of Ash leaving, and yet he never had a birthday and didn't become 11.

In the new movie he actually died in the equivalent of episode 1 and Ho-oh resurrected him as an immortal like he did with Suicune et al., but that's in a seperate continuity so whether that's canon in the tv series as well is unclear, but it's all we're getting.
>>
“That’s not true. I uh... well, I asked Hana and Laki to share me.”

Kat considers you. “I’m going to assume you did that because it’s what you wanted and not because you were hoping it’d make everyone else happy. And if it is, that’s good. That’s sort of what I’m talking about. And I’m sure you’ll do your best to be a good boyfriend both of them.” She’s smiling, but there’s this very distant, very scary hint of a threat somewhere in her voice. “But if one jumped at it and the other wasn’t interested, would you have pressed the issue? Would you have tried your best, or would you have accepted a relationship with one and friendship with the other? Would you have risked the safe thing to go for both?”

There’s an awkward silence. You don’t know. Kat doesn’t seem to be searching for an actual answer, though.

“My point is, nobody else is going to reach for the things you want, and waiting around expecting others to pick up the hint and offer them to you because you’re nice and sacrifice for everyone else, well, it’s a disappointing path.”

“But... I don’t really know what I want. I’m not very ambitious.”

Kat keeps looking at you. It’s amazing the sort of vibe she gives off. The absolute unwavering confidence she has with keeping eye contact, owning the space she’s in and the space around her. You finally understand the concept of someone being regal. “Look, I’m not saying you need to have your whole life’s ambitions planned out as a teenager. I’m just saying, the more open you are about who you are, the better you’ll be as a trainer. And with you two, it’s about willing to be open about what you want, and doing something towards it. Obviously don’t take it to some absurd extreme where you just ask everything of everyone, but think about it. Think about what you value and what you’d fight for besides what you think others want.”

“I still don’t fully understand.” Jane says.

>>
>>2283867
“Okay. Let me give you an example. See Clair over there? She had a lot of ambitions in life. She was a gym leader, she became a member of the elite four, she’s a prominent, well known psychic in those wierdo psychic circles. But she would give up those dreams for me and Robin if it came down to it. What she wouldn’t give up, what she’d absolutely, annoyingly and uncompromisingly fight me and Robin over, is honesty. She hates when people aren’t honest. She even got in a fight once because some Arcues evangelists came to our door and Robin didn’t tell them to go away because she was too polite. Clair just told them straight that we weren’t interested, not to bother leaving their pamphlets and to close the gate on the way out. Robin wanted to say that, but she couldn’t be honest about what she wanted and Clair gave her all sorts of jabs until it turned into the multi-day fight and I got a headache and...ah, right. Got off track. The point is, there’s something Clair will demand, and her pokemon respect her more than anything for it. I respect her for it. Her selfish demands for honesty made Robin a better person, and now Robin is more open instead of hemming and hawing and passively hinting at what she wants. Get it?”

“I think so.” Jane says.

“Or Robin.” Kat points. “She stood up to her dad to choose her own path, for what she wanted. She says I inspired her, but the truth is that she was already doing it before she met me. She was willing to disappoint her dad, and be greedy, -for lack of a better term- for the life and path she wanted to follow. She imposed her dreams onto the world and made them come true, and even if that meant fighting against the dreams of others, she did it. She would have taken on the world, including me, to be her own person.”

“It still sounds like you’re telling us to step on the dreams of others to get what we want.” Jane says.

Kat sighs. “No. I just mean you shouldn’t let someone else’s dreams or values override your own. You need to be and fight for yourself. Others will find a way to their dreams too if they treasure them. Or maybe not the exact material dreams, like becoming an astronaut, but the underlying principle behind them, like wanting to explore or discover.” Kat holds her temple. She seems a little frustrated at her own inability to put this into the right words.

To be honest, you’ve sort of lost track of what her original point was, too. You sort of get it, but you still aren’t entirely connecting this to how to be a better pokemon trainer.

The anime isn't THAT bad, but it's still shonen and everything that comes with that. The movies seem to have divorced themselves from the main anime and rebooted the whole thing with some darker twists, but I'd hold judgment on that until we have a couple more to work with. An adaptation of Adventures would be cool, but it's never going to happen. IIRC the Pocket Monsters gag manga is much more popular in Japan, so if they ever decide that a second anime is worth making it'll probably be that.

“I think I get it. I need to treat myself with the same respect and support that I do other people.”

She looks. “Yeah...yeah! Just like that. Where’d you hear that?”

“My dad.”

Kat smiles. “He sounds like a smart man. That’s the perfect way to put it. It’s not just good for yourself, although every balanced person should do it. It also makes you a better trainer because as part of your own team, your dreams and values and wants matter since they’re part of the group’s, too.” Kat turns to Jane. “How about you?”

“My dad couldn’t keep our family together and broke my mom’s heard.” Jane says, flatly. You thought Kat was asking if Jane understood, but Jane seems to have interpreted the question differently.

“Ah. Sorry.”

Jane looks away. “I wouldn’t expect people like you or Robin to understand what it’s like to come from a broken family.”

You don’t think you’ve ever in your entire life seen a face as both sarcastic and disbelieving as Kat’s at this moment. She quickly stuffs it away when Jane looks back, but you can still sense it a bit in her eyes. “Sounds tough. Let’s take a walk and talk about it. Herb, if you don’t mind...” Kat hints for you to go back to the group

"Oh right. Before I go, I just have one quick question."

"Shoot."

"Do you have any advice on just general stuff I can do to make Hana happy?"

"I knew I had a good feeling about you, Herb." Kat smiles again. "Well, it's a good thing it's Hana since you're so broke." How did she know...did your wallet switch pockets? "Hana's a good kid. What she wants isn't stuff. It's experiences. I remember one time we took the whole orphanage out to see a movie, and she loved it. She quoted the damn thing for days and days, going on about it. So Clair goes out and buys her a copy of it to watch, and what does Hana do? Let's the fancy boxset get dusty. She watched the movie a million times and when the disc wore out she just watched a downloaded copy after setting up a little theater using the couch cushions. She didn't care about the object, she cared about the experience. That's the kind of girl Hana is. If you want to make her happy, give her a big gesture."

"Thanks!"

"No problem." Kat says. She hitches up a small bag and prepares to go for a walk somewhere with Jane. "See you in the morning."

“Jane, one second.” You reach out and grab her hand.

Jane is entirely caught off guard by this gesture. Even Kat seems surprised. You disregard how it looks and focus on healing. You’re tired, still pretty emotionally drained from the inner journey and battle, and you’ve spent a lot of juice today, but you just can’t stand to see that cut on Jane’s hand when you can do something about it.

“W-what are you-” She looks down to see the deep gash on her knuckle healed. You felt that there was a bit more than that that you managed to heal up, too. It feels like you really prevented some long term soreness. “Damnit, John!”

“Sorry.” You say, but you don’t shrink away from her this time. “It just felt like the right thing to do, given the topic.”

“That’s a neat gift.” Kat says. “Sure wish I had that at your age.” She mutters.

“Huh?”

“Nothing. Jane, are you okay?”

Jane retracts her hand and looks offended. “Fine. It didn’t even hurt that much. I just scratched it on something is all.”

“No. You punched a tree because you have anger issues.” Kat flatly calls her out.

“Like you’d know anything about that, either.”

And now you’ve seen an even more sarcastic and disbelieving look on Kat’s face. She looks back to anyone to see if they heard that. Especially to Clair. Clair seems distracted by a conversation with Valerie and Hana, though. Kat just exhales in an exasperated fashion and takes Jane off for a walk. “Hooboy. Wow. Herb, do me a favor and tell the others we’ll be out late.”

“Oh. Sure. See you guys later!” You wave before heading back.

Look at that! That’s nice. Jane’s showing you her healed knuckle and finger. She...oh. Well that was unnecessary.

You tell Robin about Kat and Jane going for a walk and she sighs. “Kat’s always doing something like that. She sees a kid that reminds her of herself and she can’t wait until morning to try to set them straight.” Robin doesn’t look that upset, despite her words. “Oh. Sorry. I didn’t mean to complain to you. I’m glad she’s like that, really.”

“Herb!” Jeanine calls out. “Still up for that aura massage training? Got a volunteer? You’ll need one. Grab one for me too, please.”

You look around. You might not be all that good at it at first so you don’t want to impose on anyone, but you guess this is another instance where you shouldn’t worry about that too much and just do it.

You wonder if you should practice on someone besides Laki and Hana to get good so you can really surprise them.

Hey! This might be a good idea to get to know Robin and Clair better while you have the chance.

“Um, Mrs...Robin...” You begin. Ah jeez that’s such an embarrassing start. “I don’t want to be too forward, but if you’re stressed about Kat, I could use a volunteer for Jeanine’s massage lesson.”

“Oh!” Robin gasps. “She gives great massages. Sure! Did you hear that, Clair?”

Clair stretches her arms up and then pushes on her neck. “Maybe Jeanine can make up for giving me so many cricks in my neck from those damn headlocks.”

Jeanine has some small tables set out for Robin and Clair to lie down on inside a small tent, and tells you to sit quietly with your eyes closed and humm for a moment. When you ask about it, she says it’s because aura massage requires you to be in the right mood and not bring any unrelaxed vibes to the person you’re working on. That makes sense to you!

But even with your humming, you accidentally hear them talk. “You’re sure you’re okay with this? I mean, a massage from some teenage boy you don’t know?” Jeanine asks.

“Why wouldn’t I be okay?” Robin asks innocently.

“Sometimes I wonder about you, Robin. But yeah. There’s nothing to worry about with that one.” Clair says. “Trust me.”

“Herb! They’re ready” Jeanine calls out. You feel guilty about eavesdropping, but it was accidental and happened too fast for you to say anything before you realized they were talking about you. You decide to just let it go and not interfere with your relaxed state.

“Now, Herb. Your healing ability probably gives you a funny feeling in your hands, right?”

“Um, yeah, sometimes.” You hadn’t really noticed, but now that she mentions it that makes sense.

“Good. I want you to remember that feeling. This is going to be a little similar. Instead of focusing on healing, though, you’re going to manipulate their auras a little to give a feeling of relaxation.”

“You can do that? Just change people's emotions?”

Jeanine laughs. “Only if they want to, and it’s not like you’re forcing a feeling on them. You’re just clearing a path for an existing one to come forth more strongly. You can’t make anyone feel anything they don’t already feel.” She concentrates, and then firmly puts her hands on Clair’s back. Clair immediately relaxes. “Imagine a tiny stream around their bodies. You just need to pluck out the gross bits and let the good feelings flow.”

You place your hands on Robin’s shoulders and concentrate. You feel like you should be sensing something, but this just feels awkward and weird.

“Relax, Herb.” Jeanine tells you. Concentrate on Robin. Try to sense the flow of her aura, and look for the parts that seem tangled or knotted.

“Right.” You say, looking at her back. Yup. Any minute now.

“Try talking.” Jeanine says. “Get on the same page as Robin. That’ll help you sense it.”

Sure, that makes sense. Now, what topic of conversation could you possibly bring up right now?

Come to think of it, where did Herb first hear about aura massage so he knew to ask about it?
>>
I imagine that Kat would seek out “unadoptable” kids. The orphanage would keep most of the kids for a long time, maybe even until they’re not minors anymore a lot of the time. But it wouldn’t get too crowded either, since there’s not as many kids coming in.

I’m looking forwards to seeing how this next step in Herb’s growth develops.

Like in the next lewdbin, for example, he could start making specific requests. Like “I’m on top tonight Laki” or “Pin my arms above my head or behind my back Hana”.
>>
>“Sure wish I had that at your age.” She mutters.

>>2286260

>>
>>2286267
If Herb had lived another life he wouldn’t be Herb.

I hope this character growth, learning to take as well as give, is reflected in our aura/powers.

Like, being able to take aura energy from people. It would allow us to use people and Pokémon as batteries to pull off healing more severe injuries.

Speaking of our aura powers, we still haven’t gotten a good idea of whether or not we can heal ourself, or use our potential unlocking on humans/ourself.
>>
>>2286498
Huh. I actually re-read the early part of the Adventures manga where Yellow (who had healing and empathy powers similar to Herb) where she made Red's Pikachu use what I can only describe as a very early prototype Z-move (it's name was even very similar to Ash Hat Pikachu's exclusive Z-move!). A detail I'd forgotten was that she'd been drawing energy from Red's Venusaur, Blue's Charizard and Green's Blastoise to pull that off, making it work more like a sort of Genki Dama.

You rub the shoulders of one of the women that’s basically Hana’s mom. This is starting to feel a little weird.

“So.” You mutter.

“Hrm?” Robin asks.

“Picking Robin was ambitious, Herb.” Jeanine tells you.

Clair melts into her table. “Yeah. She couldn’t relax if she swallowed a bottle full of Xanax.”

Robin shoots up. “T-that’s not true!”

“Herb. Are her shoulders more like wood, or steel right now?” Clair teases.

You aren’t sure how far you should go, and just sort of offer an awkward laugh and smile, hoping they’ll stop looking to you for an actual response. When none comes, you try asking a question. “Umm, isn’t aura massage less about the physical state and more a way to help people sort their auras?”

Jeanine holds up a finger. “Very good. But people get caught up in that. Body, mind, and soul, are all connected. Here, feel this.” Jeanine takes your hand and places it on Clair. “Concentrate on her aura. Focus on healing if you have to.”

You do so. You don’t know why. You can’t heal a non-injury. But you understand her meaning. She just wants you to tap into some part of you that works with aura. And in a moment, you see, very faintly, what looks like strange flows of energy over Clair.

Jeanine pinches her.

“FRIG OW!” Clair says. You flinch back in surprise too, but you immediately understood what Jeanine was doing.

“You saw it, right?” Jeanine asks, ignoring Clair.

“Y-yeah.” It reminded you of a demonstration in school once, where the teacher messed with magnetic fields and change the shape of the little iron filings.

“Want me to do it again?”

“That’s okay!” You panic. Jeanine laughs and Clair grumbles. Robin looks back at you with an assessing look. You go back to massaging her.

“Relax.” Jeanine whispers to you. “Put your patient at ease.”

Right. Okay. “Tell me about Hana.”

“What do you want to know?”

“Oh jeez. I don’t know. She hasn’t talked a lot about her childhood.”

“She was always a quiet one.” Clair sighs. She looks incredibly happy with Jeanine’s work at the moment. “Loud, loud thoughts, though.”

Robin ignores her. “Well, Hana spent a lot of time away from the other kids a the orphanage. We honestly never got a chance to be as close with her. That’s why it’s important we see that she’s happy now.” Robin says. You can feel some dissonance with her aura. “We still haven’t met the relatives here she said she’d be spending most of her time with. Is that irresponsible? She’s never gotten into trouble and Kat is always insisting on giving everyone a lot of freedom, but...” Robin’s very tense now.

“Hana’s doing well.” You interrupt. You hate interrupting, but she seems like she really needs to hear it. “She just got a shard. Her play was really good too. Everyone loved it!”

“She directed it?” Robin asks. She sounds more concerned that she didn’t hear about it, but also happy.

“She really took charge. She directed it.”

Robin relaxes. “I wish I could have seen it.”

There’s the best kind of silence for awhile. The kind that isn’t awkward. You’re very interested in trying to see Robin’s aura. It’s difficult, and without Jeanine’s help it feels like trying to recreate a recipe you’ve never even tasted. But slowly, a faint bit of it comes into view.

“So, Robin. How did you meet Hana?”

Robin relaxes just slightly. “Well, it was a fluke. I was working with a group that focuses on artificial prosthetics. Hana’s parents were donors. When the accident happened, well, it was the perfect timing.” Robin shoots up, blowing away the mist that was the vision of her aura. “Not that I meant that it was a good thing! I just-”

“Robin.” Jeanine smiles.

“R-right. You know what I meant.” She slides back down again. “Sorry. Anyway, it wasn’t because they were donors, they just happened to be people we had met before. Nice people. And so Hana came into our lives. But...I feel like we weren’t there for her as much as we could be.”

“She’s never given me that impression.” You tell her, seeing a weird tangle form.

“Then why doesn’t she talk to us?” Robin accidentally lets out the question. It’s weird, but in this state with the vision of her aura reforming, you can see it look a lot better. Just getting that question out seems therapeutic, even if you have no idea how to answer it.

“Well, you know Hana. She doesn’t like to talk much in general. She thinks she’s being a bother even though she’s not.”

“No idea where she got that.” Clair says, before Jeanine puts an elbow in her spine. You all look at Robin and you’re relieved to see she didn’t hear that. It sounded a bit more pointed and mean that you think Clair intended.

“I guess she does, doesn’t she.” Robin is deep in thought. “You’re right. I-” She pauses. “I-I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to just dump all that on you.” Robin says. Boy, she sure says sorry a lot. “I just worry.”

She sure does. “It’s okay. Just try to relax. About Hana, about everything. It’s going to be okay.” You feel so strange assuring someone so much older, more experienced, and more accomplished than you. But in this state, where her aura is something you can sometimes see a little, she feels like a small child. Maybe that’s partly because she’s tiny like Abigail, but at least some of that is the impression from her aura, right?

“Right. Sorry. I just don’t want her to feel like she can’t talk to us. If she’s happy and doing well, I shouldn’t butt in.”

Look at these tangles. Here, there. Oh jeez. You look to Jeanine. She motions for you to go ahead. You carefully look at the one you can see the clearest, which isn’t at all very clear, and you try to smooth it out. You almost jump when Robin inhales sharply, but then she relaxes, deeper than before. “How’s that?”

“That’s nice.” She says, closing her eyes. “You’re a natural, Herb.”

You know she’s just being nice, but that still feels nice to hear. As time goes on, you feel like you’re getting more into the groove of it. You’ve had a good amount of practice with Laki, so that helps. Those massages were different though. They did eventually...go places.

Woah. You’re losing Robin’s aura again. It’s fading from your senses.

Jeez. You’re still too tense and it’s throwing you off. You’re trying to juggle not being awkward with concentrating on her aura and detangling things. It’s way too much to do at once.

Okay. Relax. You just need to treat this like no big deal. You’ve given Laki a lot of massages and you know what works by now. Just...pretend you’re massage Laki. Yeah. That’s the ticket!

“What are your thoughts on the battle, earlier?” You ask, hoping that thinking about a battle will get her aura more focused for you. The bigger reason though, is that you genuinely want to know how to improve. What you did right, and what you did wrong.

“It was a good one.” Robin says. “Everyone had fun. Right?”

“Yeah.” You were hoping for a little more.

“Mmmm. Your pokemon trust Laki a lot. Hers trusted you, too. Wailord especially. You must spend a lot of time together. I think you have a unique style. I bet you’d do extra well against pros but struggle against less experienced pokemon and trainers. Kat was right that you fight like her, but I think your style is closer to mine than she realizes. Maybe we just see what we want to see.”

You expect her to shoot up and apologizing for implying Kat is a little wrong or really, any reason at all at this point. But she doesn’t. She’s very relaxed. And for your part, you’re much calmer too. You’re just doing what you do with Laki. You work your fingers firmly but carefully up her calves, then her legs... Your hands just do what they do. Your real conscious thought is on her aura. Now that things have calmed, you can sort of make a little sense of it. It’s not like a simple magnetic field, but this complicated river and stream network. There’s so much here. It’s way more sophisticated than you imagined.

The more you look, the more you see things that seem a little familiar. Things you’ve seen in other people, although with a different hue. This one is unique to her. Your mind pictures Laki still as you focus in on aura streams that feel familiar to when you massage Laki. You open and manipulate them in tandem with your hands working on her physical body. You aren’t sure exactly what you’re doing, but it’s not like you’re breaking anything. You’re just working with feelings that are familiar under these circumstances and recreating aura flows you know, even if you never knew you knew them at the time.

That makes more sense in your gut than your head.

(continued)
>>
>>2289139
But now that you’ve manipulated that flow, one that you sense has a relaxation aspect to it, something feels off. Why would Laki’s aura feel off? You-

Oh, right. You guess you got a little mixed up there. This is Robin.

“Well, if you have time, maybe we could do a family movie night or something sometime. Get some bonding time in.”

“That’d be nice. Bondage...bonding.” Robin sighs. Her voice is low and husky. But after a moment her aura and demeanor change. “S-sorry Herb. I forgot you were Herb for a second.”

You don’t see why that’s important. You focus back on her aura and move your hands back to position. “That’s okay. Try to relax.”

She inhales sharply and her shoulders melt. But she quickly shakes herself. “W-w-w-we need to stop. Now.”

You move your hands back, but then reach out again in concern. She shudders under your touch. “Did I hurt you? I’m sorry! I didn’t mean-”

“No!” Robin is bright red. Her chest is heaving. “No. It’s fine. I just...I need to go.” She gets up suddenly.

Clair and Jeanine shoot up. “What’d he do?”

“N-Nothing!” Robin says, scrambling as she leaves. She comes back a moment later and grabs Clair. “Come to our tent. Now please!”

You’re frozen. You’re so confused. Jeanine stares at you for a long time, trying to decide on something.

“Confusion, fear, anxiety...” She picks at something around you. “Not a hint of trying to hide anything, and unless you’re a total sociopath... you’re just a bit of an idiot, aren’t you, Herb?” She stiffles a laugh.

>No I’m not!

“I’m sorry! I don’t know what I did!” You stumble. “She is okay, right? I didn’t hurt her.”

Jeanine folds her arms and gives you a stunningly amused look. “You didn’t hurt her. No.”

“Um, in that case, can I keep practicing, on you?”

She laughs. “You’re definitely not faking having no idea what you did. You’ve seen the size of Vance, right?”

Now you’re even more confused. “I really don’t understand. Please. What did I do?”

She looks a little more sympathetic and sits on the table next to you. “Let me ask you something. What were you trying to do?”

You think for a moment, then try to explain and remember how it went. She nods and follows along. At the end, she puts a hand softly on your shoulder.

“So you were massaging Robin thinking about your girlfriend, and how you massage her, and in your aura-searching trance, you starting messing around opening floodgates.”

You nod.

“Herb. Aura massage is a give and take. What you feel colours what you see in other people’s auras. What you found in Robin, you found because it was familiar to your touching your girlfriend.”

You nod, waiting for her to continue. After a moment it becomes clear that she said everything she felt she needed to say. But what does that-

“OH! Oh no!”

Jeanine laughs again. She tries to apologize but you guess there’s something about your reaction that makes it so she can’t even form words right now.

You want to shrink and disappear. Oh fudge in a fireplace, you really did it this time. “I didn’t meant to do that!”

“Calm down. Mistakes happen. Just remember it for the future.” She pats you on the back. “Besides the results, you did very well. If you try to see aura again in the wild it won’t be as easy as it is with me here, but you just might be an aura reader someday yet. And with your gift, well, you could really do a lot of good, Herb. I’m glad it’s someone like you that has it.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I see why Hana likes you. You’re adorable.” She holds her hands up jokingly. “Don’t get any ideas about that, though. I know you have an eye for older women, but I’m taken!”

Even you can tell she’s teasing you. You blush and look down. Maybe she’s having fun but you feel genuinely guilty.

[oops! I forgot the post!]

“Sorry. Sorry.” She pushes herself off of the table. “Just teasing. Robin will be fine. She’s an extremely forgiving person. She won’t be mad at you in the morning.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.” She says softly. “Be proud. You got a lot done today. And you learned, right?”

“I did.” You think over it.

“There we go. So relax yourself, -whatever that entails- and get some sleep. The sun will rise again in the morning. I promise.” She pushes you out of the tent.

You find yourself almost alone in the night air. Off in the distance by the light from the lake, you see Vance’s form.

You hear some giggling and hushed voices from where your friends are camping. There’s a huge super tent in the middle of the clearing that Kat, Robin, and Clair have set up. It looks almost like a cabin. Amazing how technology is if you’re rich.

Confused, you go for a walk into the forest. You almost go alone, since most of your pokemon have gone off to bed, but Mace quickly zooms up to you.

“Ah, sorry buddy. Want to come with me?”

He nods. Anything else would be out of the question, it seems. You don’t mind. You were planning on just doing some thinking, but Mace is fine company for that. He doesn’t demand a lot of attention. He’s content to just be quiet and think beside you.

The two of you head into the forest. Your mind wanders left and right with your footsteps, never really staying in one particular place. There’s a lot of small things on your mind, but no big central issue.

Let’s see. You’re still mortified about what happened with Robin, but you’re calmer about it now. You want to learn more about Hana’s life before her journey, but you guess you can just ask her tomorrow morning. You want to improve as a trainer, but there’s nothing you can do about it at this exact moment. You’re getting a little hungry, but you wouldn’t be able to whip up anything you’d be professionally satisfied with in the dark right now without waking everyone up or finding new ingredients.

You sigh. Not a sad or frustrated or happy sigh. You’re just a little tired is all.

You get deeper in. Boy, it’s dark out here. You’re about to push aside a weird tree branch when Mace shoots out in front of you and stops you. He fires off some jets to push you back.

“What is it?”

Before he can respond, the weird bit of darkness and tree turns around, revealing a singular, red eye. As you focus, you see that below it is a sinister smile. Horror floods over you.

It begins to cackle quietly, and slowly approach. The creepy way it moves sense a chill down your spine.

You’re filled with something. You don’t know what, but you just feel like you’ve stared down enough hostile pokemon and stood your ground against enough unfair attacks that you’re just not as fazed by this sort of thing anymore.

You raise your hands and rush at it. “RAHHH!”

The pokemon, and it is a pokemon, stumbles in it’s spot for a moment. It’s completely surprised.

Mace follows with you after only a moment’s hesitation. He seems flustered that he can’t get between you and it.

You come eyes to eye with the thing as it freezes, but doesn’t run or back down. Instead, you have a quick staring contest as you’re inches away. You guess that while you did startle it, it doesn’t consider you much of a threat.

Mace prepares to attack.

“Wait. Do I know you?” Something about it is familiar, even in the dark.

It blinks. The smile goes from sinistar to happy! It licks your face. As it does though, Mace locks on a Tri-Beam and begins to charge up. The pokemon freezes up. Again, it doesn’t look threatened, but it doesn’t seem to want to be impolite, either. It’s tongue is stuck on your face until Mace backs down.

It leaps over you and runs off into the forest, cackling. You and Mace are left a little confused. That was Kat’s pokemon, right?

>Go back to camp and to "sleep"
>>
You decide it’s about bedtime. You have an uneasy feeling about that pokemon, but you dismiss it. He was just trying to scare you and didn’t actually mean any harm. Why he wanted to scare you, you have no idea. Maybe that’s just fun for him.

You yawn as you head back into your camp. Laki and Hana are in a small, cramped tent. Where that tent came from, you’re not sure, but it looks just barely big enough for the three of you.

Valerie’s fancy tent is off to the side, and you assume everyone else is in there.

You get ready to sleep, looking around. Gobble seems to be at the center of a big pile that Mace gently makes his way next to. You can’t help but see him as cute when he snuggles in.

But Laki and Hana are positioned in the tent in such a way that there’s no way you can get in there in the blanket without waking one or both of them up. Maybe it’s a tiny deal to everyone else, but to you, it feels like a huge thing to disturb them.

You think about a quote you heard somewhere. ‘You are your habits.’ You suppose that’s affecting your thinking on such a small thing. It’s like these small things really show your character, in a way.

>Sleep outside with your pokemon. It’s a nice night
>Risk very likely waking them up and get in there. Be a little more self-centered
>Be extra self-involved. Wake them up and demand sexual service
>Something else
[Last update for the night. Sorry, falling asleep myself!]

I think they’ll appreciate waking up with you, Herb.

the last one is way too far for Herb, he's already crossed a few too many lines today I think.

Yeah. He can practice taking the initiative later, when his psychic mother-in-law-to-be isn’t around. And that’s still different from “demanding”. (Although Hana might be into that. We’ll ask first though.)

Goodnighty!

I demand a lewdbin where the massage continued. I'm sure Kat and Clair are going to get involved too if that happens.
They've been lezzing it up for so long that they must've forgotten what a dick tastes like and we obviously can't have that.

I want to see how Herb will deal with this.
>>
>>2289549
dude that is basically incest at this point, not that I don't approve but it is also kind of out of left field.

>>2289543
Thanks for running Gobble.
>>
>>2289543
Damn, looks like I missed a good thread.

Rest well, Gobble.
>>
>>2289566
I don't want it to be canon, I just want to see it. Maybe it could be a 'bad' dream of some sorts, from any of those involved but eh. Some men just want to see the world fuck...
>>
>>2289572
meh I've seen Gobble cover weirder stuff, just seems a bit odd and sudden especially since Robin is a full on lesbian and the characters hardly even know each other, the smutlog is already backed up enough with stuff I would personally much rather see.
>>
So is Claire still alone and unmarried? That's kinda sad
>>
>>2289663
Dude, Claire is married to Kat and Robin.

It was a major point back when Herb was in the forest running from his feelings that he saw an example of a healthy polyamorous relationship in those three. Robin just pulled Claire off to satisfy her sudden sexual urges. The three of them all live together.
>>
“Hey could you do me a favor and let me practice massage on you? We’ll have to talk about our feelings while we do though.”

Honestly Herb seems like a charicature of the ideal romance novel male lead sometimes.

We should run our potential unlocking by Jeneane before everyone splits up. We haven’t used that power too often and don’t know much about it. We also never actually asked what our inner journey was supposed to accomplish.

Also, since Robin reminded him of how radio silence was making her nervous for Hana, Herb should remember to call his mom. We can also let Hana know how Robin was feeling about not having met her aunt/uncle and that now might be a good time to talk about that if she’s ready.

HAH, nah, having read some dime store romances and having a mom who does so regularily, he's nowhere near dominant enough or masculine enough. A staple of that kind of fiction is the dominant man's man that still can talk about his feelings, and makes you feel loved. Herb is the latter and not the former if that makes any sense.
>>

Agreed, he trying to become a more dominant man. That's sorta what his journey is about. But, honestly Herb doesn't even think the dominant man is a real man. He believes that a real man is a protector and a provider, that whole dominance aspect doesn't factor into it for him.
>>
>>2290223
I think Herb likes being dominated.
>>
>>2293981
He definitely likes it from Laki, but he doesn't like it in his daily life. He's trying to speak his mind more because of that.

I feel like it will make for an interesting combination in the bedroom.

>Get your ass over here and pin me down, now.

Thread this weekend?
