You elected to head with the men, as you figured that survival would probably be relative to numbers. Before you made your way towards their group, you stopped by Carol, and let her know where Paula was. She only nods, and heads towards the crabshack where Paula is probably changing.

'They're better off together,' you mentally told yourself as you headed towards the others, 'they can regroup with us once Paula's done. She's capable enough with a gun, she's a cop after all.'

Yet as you make your way further down the pier, you can't find trace of where the others went. The pier itself is a very long street that stretches towards the upper wharf where the rich keep their Yachts, but they shouldn't gotten that far since you went to speak to Carol. As you arrive at the middle of the pier near the concert venues and the Anthem amphitheater, you hear the sound of foot steps moving very quickly behind you.

There are slow gasps coming from the person running toward you. Whoever it is, they probably ran the whole way here and are getting pretty tired given the circumstances. You turn around to find that it's Carol, yet she's looking a little worse for wear. There's a cut on her left shoulder that heads down towards her forearm, and her eyes are red from exhaustion or maybe tears. She stops not two feet before you, and places her hands on her knees to catch her breath.

"Carol, are you alright?" you ask hastily as you run towards her, "What happened to you? And where's Paula?"

Carol's gasps are coming in more controlled now as she begins to catch her breath. Then, just as quickly, she starts losing control as she stands to look at you.

"P-Paula...", she starts crying into her hands, sobbing as she recalls to you, "Something in the shacks attacked us, like three walking crocodile things. She told me she would distract them, and told me to just run and find you..."

'Paula is...' you snap yourself out of the shock, and dismiss those horrible thoughts from your head, 'There's no way she's dead, she's not stupid enough for...'

It only takes a few seconds for it to happen but a large shape bursts from the water, and onto the pier. It's figure is just like Carol described: a walking crocodile. Carol screams at its sudden appearance, and starts breaking down faster as it lands near her. It begins circling around her collapsed, sobbing frame, slowly licking its chops at its next possible mean.

<Continued>

Your body reacts, a natural instinct to protect the one in front you, and you fix both of your guns on the monster before you. Yet before you can fire, two strong, sticky ropes pull at your arms, preventing you from firing. You turn your head towards the rope's origin to find they're not ropes but tongues from the mouths of two large gray creatures. They look like salamanders, yet their appearance belies their surprising strength to restrain you, moreso at the possible carnage that's about to take place before you.

You can't help but look as the muscular gait of the creature bounds for Carol's body and snaps her body right between its jaws. You're trying desperately to move forward as the monster violently shakes her, and begins to tear her apart between her screams.

"We're all dead anyways," a voice speaks to your left, an older gentleman's voice, "Why does it matter if we're all dead?"

"Such a cute girl though," another voice speaks to your right, middle aged from its sounds, "Shame she has to die like this, so violently."

The voices are...coming from the creatures? You don't take enough time to contemplate as Carol is mercilessly split in half with her creature's last brutal roll. It then starts to feed on the broken pieces. The sight is too much for you, as you lose your lunch onto the pier's concrete.

"There's more than one choice," you hear a young man's voice, from the crocodile in front of you, "You could have saved her you know."

As it continues to eat Carol, you actually start tearing up at the sight. You didn't know it was going to be like this. You didn't know what was truth or not. How could anyone know what was going to happen?

Your self-deprecating contemplation ends as a large splash is made from the water and an even larger monsters erupts from it. You're almost taken off your feet at the sheer weight of it. You are taken off your feet however, when you spot the object dangling from its mouth.

"Paula...", you meekly call out, as you see her in the monster's jaws.

"Haha!,' you hear a sadistic voice call out, from the large monster, "never thought I'd taste a cop's ass tonight!"

The creature clamps down its jaws completely, and spits out Paula's remains onto the concrete before you, splattering her blood alongside your vomit. Her upper body lies perfectly still, dead and motionless with a pool of blood forming around it. It takes your brain a few seconds to properly register the sight before you, and almost lose your lunch right then and there.

Your eyes are affixed on her face, yet the moment they look away you hear her voice in your ears,

"You...dumb...hero..."

You wake up in a cold sweat, shouting at the top of your lungs for a brief moment before your reassess your surroundings. Your breath is shallow, and you extend your hands to face to relieve your gaze of the world around you. Between your gasps and the heaving of your chest, you slowdown your eyes to focus on the palms of your hands, and them from your face.

You take a second to flex your digits, one fingertip to your thumb and you repeat the process until you have felt the sensation in all 5. It was an exercise your mother taught you to calm down after a nightmare.

'If you can feel all of your fingers,' she would explain to your crying child form, 'then the dream isn't real. There's nothing to be afraid of if it's not real.'

You don't know how truthful that last part really is, but at least it calmed you down slightly. You sigh in exhaustion as you turn to stare at your ceiling, not bothering to even put the covers on. Shelfstack or customer service really did a number on you yesterday, as it seems there's a few aches in your legs.

'Should probably go to the gym,' you mention to yourself, shuffling around for your phone, 'can't be feeling like this after a night shift...'

As you reach for the phone on the floor below your bed, you open it to find the time and date.

April 10th, Tuesday, 9:10 AM.

'Should probably get changed,' you think, 'Ryan an asshole when I'm late.'

You move towards your closet, shuffling through a couple of water bottles and diet coke cans as you head to get changed. Upon opening the closet doors however, you're greeting by a horrifying sight. Hanging from one of your wire hangers is a full bodied black suit.

"This..." you slowly turn to the bottom of the closet, "isn't real right...It was... a dream...right?"

Your eyes meet a small, plastic looking gun sitting at the bottom of your closet.

You hastily shut down your closet door and head towards your desk. With equal haste, you sit down onto your swivel chair and open your laptop. After waiting what seems like 30 minutes for your computer to boot up and for the password to be accepted, you make for the big Chrome icon on your task bar and start up the fastest news feed you can get your hands on.

The stream connects and you're met with a Fox news logo before you see an onsite newscaster on the scene out of a disaster movie.

"As you can see before me," the man points to burning wreckage of cars and pavement, "This is ground zero on the DC Gas explosion, one of the worst infrastructure disasters our city has seen in decades, a disaster that has supposedly claimed the lives of two individuals."

The image flashes to two images, and your jaw drops to find them all too familiar.

"Though their bodies have yet to be located," he goes on, showing the burning wreckage of the intersection, "it is believed one of these individuals was police recruit, Paula Narbo Torrez, a recent graduate of the police academy."

You can't hear anymore of the newscast, before your mouse furiously moves to another feed. The CNN logo pops up to find another familiar sight.

"What you're looking at," a blonde newscaster is presenting the destruction on the DC pier, "is the site of what can only be assumed as wide-scaled vandalism as officials are investigating the site of the renovated DC pier."

You move to another newscast, NBC this time.

"We have just received reports that the bodies of two congressmen," you stare dumbfounded at the screen, and the two middle age portraits right before you, "Andrew Parks, and Johnathan Blunt were found this morning in the Potomac river, their car having met in a collision with an unknown vehicle at this time."

It's all too real. It all happened. The explosion, the pier, all of the people in the room...

You don't contemplate enough before your phone starts ringing. You go to pick it up, as a familiar voice on the other side ask you, "Hello is this Mr. Vanders? We're calling to let you know that your car is in the deposit and you can come pick up whenever you need it."

You hang up the phone without speaking a single word, and look up your contacts.

Indeed, her name alongside Carol's are both there. You send the call out to her, to try and come terms with everything that happened last night this morning. In those ten agonizing seconds it takes for her to pick up you think on how she's probably dealing with this whole situation herself.

"Hello?," you hear Paula's voice on the receiver call out, "I'm a little busy right now, what do you need? Who is this?"

"It's me Erick," you sigh, in mild relief, "I need to speak to you as soon as you're able."

"I'll probably get off late today," she replies back, "they're questioning me about the explosion and how I'm still alive. What do you want to speak about?"

"We need to check up on the others," you say to her, "I don't know how Carol may be taking this whole thing or if she's ok. Also...there's still a lot of things we need to ask Dante."

"Right," Paula replies in agreement, "I'll look up where Dante is, assuming that Senator stepdad of his hasn't thrown him on the street."

"Please call me back when you're able," you speak up to her, "I can't sleep without knowing the others are fine."

"Relax," she says, with a soothing tone in her voice, "you'll die of a heart attack if you keep that up."

"Oh shit, I have to hang up, the higher ups want their answers. Take care of yourself Erick."

She hangs up, and you're left there alone again. Your phone lists back 10:10 AM. Usually there would be an alarm ring on your phone now from WalMart, but it seems you lucked out today. No shift for your sorry ass it seems.

OOC: I'll put this in after we get our car.

Your stomach a grumble as you realize that the panic has begun to upset you in more ways than one.

You head to the fridge, and open its doors to what will be late breakfast now. Eggs, bacon, ham, and some leftover chinese food from Sunday.

'Omelette it is...', you say as you take out the ingredients, and a skillet from the bottom pantry. As you start up the burner, your phone rings at a message you received. You go to pick it up, and it reads from Carol...

'At school,' you read through it, 'testing out the suit after class. Want to join me?'

Another message comes through after this one, with it giving out an address. 'Diamond Auto Parts', you recognize it as a junkyard/ used car depot.

'Oh yeah,' you remember from the taxi ride, 'she lives near Franklin...no wonder she got shot.'

You gloom over slightly at your own comment, before you start making your omelette. A couple of minutes later, and some orange juice in a glass, you sit down to eat. All the while, maybe you should look for a safer area to start practicing with your equipment.

You take not of two places in your search, the rooftop lines near Georgetown which are said to used by parkour athletes, and Roosevelt Island, where the trees and ample expanse will serve for good target practice. You finish your food, and head out to the depot for your car.

Let's hope they don't ask too many questions...but...what about Carol?

You figure taking the bus to the depot is probably faster, considering the commuting time there is roughly 30 min if you try to go on foot, and cheaper than taking one of DC's taxis. You make yourself decent, wash up your face, and head out to find your car.

As you step out onto that familiar 1207 7th NW, you make for the bus stop on the nearby curb. It only takes a couple of minutes for it to get there, yet in that time you sent Carol the text for Roosevelt Island.

She replies with, ok, 'but can you give me a ride?', to which you reply in agreement.

You board the DC's finest inner city bus, and realize you're getting a lot of odd looks as you head for a seat. As you make your way to the back, you can hear people whispering and looking at you.

"Isn't that the guy from the news?" "Nah, too skinny, and too young." "What's he doing here?" "What a baddass, he lived through an explosion."

You don't much attention after that. Not 10 minutes later, you arrive at the crossing for the depot, and head to the reception office. It doesn't take too long for you to be seated, but substantially longer to get the paperwork in order. After what seemed to be an hour, the receptionist gives you back your license and your registration number.

"Alright Mr. Vanders," she says, giving your ID one last look before handing it back, "the car's yours, and in good condition given the circumstances."

"Thank you," you reply back, but then feel a tug on your ID as she supposedly hands it back to you.

"I received a warrant from the police department," she speak back, a serious look in eyes, "They looked over you car, but they said in the possibility that you showed up, that you go speak to them as soon as possible. I would suggest you do."

She lets go of your ID and she sees you out of the office. As you head back to your car, you notice that it really is just as you left it. If anything, it looks better since whoever was looking it over decided to give it a good washing.

As you step in, and make sure all of your stuff is still inside, you take a moment to assess the current situation and plan your next move.

You decide to head back home and get your gear. The police can wait their turn, though you figure with Paula you have a direct line to them if you even want to smooth things over.

As you weave your way past the midday rush for DC's residents, you stop by McDonalds to get some lunch. It's not the healthiest option, but considering you're heading up for some black ops training with advanced technology, you could probably use the extra calories.

You arrive back home with your takeout bag full of medium fries and a Big Mac, and make sure to leave your car on to head on out after picking up your stuff.

Sure enough, your equipment is still in your closet. You get one of your gym dufflebags and stuff the equipment inside, making sure to cover up the gun and the fabric with some other clothes in case anyone tries to look inside.

You stuff the dufflebag inside the car, and make sure to lock the trunk before heading out. Not long before you leave your home, you receive another text, it's from Carol again.

'How did you active the suit?' she asks in the message. Why would she want to know now, aren't you doing this later in the day? And, isn't she still at school?

'You need to focus on what you want to do,' you start texting in your parked car, 'when I first used it, I focused on running. If you think hard enough, it might work.'

She replies with an, 'Ok, thanks'. It's still really strange that she texted it to you at this time, considering it's still 2:00 PM. Hopefully, she's not actually thinking of using that suit at school. Hell, she probably doesn't even have it with her.

Shoving those thoughts from your mind, you think back to what you were doing beforehand.

You decide that the police department can wait a little longer. You set your phone GPS for the pier, and make your way there as soon as possible. Andrew and John's weapons are probably still there, so may as well get them so you can get some extra firepower on your side.

Yet as you approach the area, a small police escort barricade has begun to form around the pier's entrances. Given your status as a missing person, it's probably not a good idea to be stopped right now if you don't want any questions asked.

That being said, if there's anything left from the hunt, it may still be there. As you gauge the risks to the current rewards, you start getting an idea on your head.

>Forget it, this wasn't a good idea. (Head to another location)

If you're gonna get past those officers, you're going to need something stronger.

You maneuver your car to as far enough away from the barricades, and head towards one of the closest empty garages to the pier. You set your car to park, head to the back, and start donning the suit.

It figures that you should probably wear it under you clothes, just in the case that someone does spot you that no one notices the strange suit you have on. After putting it on, you decide to head to the roof of the parking garage and see just how extensive the barricades really are.

From your lookout perch, you can spot that the barricades are extensive throughout the exits to and from the pier, they even detoured the Maine Ave's road just to make sure no one approaches the area. That being said, they don't seem to have lookouts on the rooftops and the majority of their personnel are combing the pier itself and not the side roads.

'Doesn't look too bad,' you think to yourself, 'still dangerous and insane but, not impossible...'

Now, how to approach it...

If there's no rooftop sentries, then that means that means they wont have eyes in the sky. Which also means that there no chance of helicopters appearing either.

You head to the edge again, and map out your route to the closest two rooftops near you. There's a museum complex near the pier that connects to the other side of the street via a covered skybridge. You figure the police may have sentries there as well, but they won't suspect anyone going on the bridge's roof itself.

As you steel your nerves for one of the most dangerous things you've done this day, you feel that may need to come up with a good excuse if you're caught. You push that out of your mind, as you make for the garage's roof edge.

You take one of the biggest running starts you've even done. Your heart is racing with each step, and as you get closer to the roof's edge you begin to imagine the danger you're place your body under right now.

It is this feeling that propels you forward with such high momentum it is almost difficult for you to stop running after you stick your landing on the first apartment complex. You see your suit expanded on your legs, building what look like muscle fiber beneath your clothes. There's a real fear they might tear right beneath them, but they detract as quickly as you stop your momentum.

You jump jumped over a 2 meter gap, a feat most people could say is impossible to achieve, even if trained in parkour. You clench your fist at the next rooftop, and take another running start from the edge.

You feel the acceleration of your body as you once again jump to the other side, this time your momentum carries you forward and you don't stop. There's a such a degree of acceleration that the wind begins to move around you, almost like in a tunnel.

'This is,' you think up, as you make your way to the bridge, 'incredible.'

It turned out you were right, there were police guards at the bridge's entrance but none at the roofs. You make your way across at such great speed, that none of the police below manage to spot you in time.

Yet as you make your way across the street and to the museum's rooftop, a growing sense of doubt begins to dawn on you. How are you going to find the equipment? Hell, how are you going to get past the patrols in the area. From your rooftop vantage point you see that there's an especially large police and what you assume is CSI force around the Anthem theater and the three venues.

'Damnit,' you think, frustrated, 'They're right where Chris and Dante were...'

You figure that if the police are out in force like this, it will probably make getting the equipment all the more difficult. That being said, there has to be something here, thought, you don't know if the police haven't just taken everything already...

'Stop it,' you reprimand yourself, 'if you start thinking that way, this trip was already worthless.'

You head to the other side of the roof, and scan out the area, and see that the majority of the police are sticking to the main pier and not going into the buildings themselves. You can't just jump down to the main entrances without getting their attention, but there are rooftop accesses to some of the shops, one in particular meets your eyes.

Brighton Bar, the place where you found Carol, and probably where Andrew met his end trying to protect her from that alien. Now, you only hope that the police haven't looted the place wholesale, or that they don't have a presence in the shop.

Dat 11...Writing
>>
>>2290974
OOC: That should have been a +3 to INT...well the result doesn't change much.

You make your way across the rooftops until you stand on top of the Brighton's rooftop. Like you thought, there is an access door directly to the roof, but it's locked. You can't tell if it's the lock itself on the door or if there's a locking mechanism on the frame but you decide to force it open regardless.

There's a great amount of force the suit gives you, and it allows you to rip the handle out of the frame itself, but there's a metallic screech as you force it open. You pray that no one heard that as you make your way down the stairs to the main shop.

Past all of the maintenance and office floors for the building's staff, you make it to the kitchen area on the ground floor and begin scouring for Andrew's weapon. You not several dents around the metal of the kitchne's sinks and stoves, but no sign of blood, viscera or of Andrew's body for that matter.

Now that you think about it, they mentioned they found him dead in the Potomac so...does that mean that his revived body dissapeared or was taken away?

You don't get much time to think on it, as you hear a noise from the shop's entrance.

"Yeah," you hear a male's voice entering the bar, "I'll return in a second, I think I heard something coming from the bar."

There's no time to lose, as you make for searching any possible direction for the equipment. You can't seem to find it however, on the floor or near the kitchen counters. You can hear his feet approaching past the bar now.

It is then that your foot collides against something hard below one of the deep friers. You duck prone to look at it, and low and behold there's one of those long barreled guns there.

You don't get more than a second to admire it, before you spot the police officer's foot enter the kitchen area.

You quickly retreat back behind one of the stoves, pressing your back against it, and out of the sight of the officer.

You need to get him out of the kitchen if you're to continue this investigation in peace. There's got to be something here that's light enough to throw, and loud enough to make some noise.

Rolled 18 + 3 (1d20 + 3)

You frantically search the immediate area for something, anything to create a distraction with. Thankfully enough, your hands find one right below the stove. It's a wine glass, small enough to throw and fragile enough to make some noise on the first thing it hits.

You get on one knee, and aim your glass right out of the kitchen's ready window. You can hear the police officer's steps being to round out the kitchen area, but your target hits home.

A loud, glass shatter can be heard in the dining room, and the police officer paces to investigate. It appears your aim may have hit another glass on the table, and shattered both. It may not be all that good however, as it appears that a couple of other officers are coming in to investigate as well.

"Collins," one of them calls out to the officer heading out of the kitchen, "what the hell is going on in here."

"I heard a noise inside the building," the officer Collin speaks up, "I went to investigate but..."

It seems they might start arguing incessantly, so you take this opportunity to reach below the deep friers and pull out that big gun. It takes a little bit, since it's angled strangely, but you manage to pry it out. The gun is heavy, and has strange sight on its barrel that may indicate some sort of aim assist on it.

While you manage to get the gun, the officers appear to be leaving, with their chief having chewed out Collin something hard. All the better for you, as you head back up the stairs and to the roof. The gun doesn't have a sling or holdster, so you're made to carry it back across the roofs.

Having memorized the route, you make your way across the rooftops, and to the parking garage without much hassle. You make your way to your car, and find it just as you left it on the side. You grab your keys, and place the gun inside of the trunk along with the suit after a quick change of clothes.

Before you turn on the car however, there's a loud whir on your phone as it vibrates to indicate a message coming through. You had left it in the car in case you dropped it on your escapade to the dock, but it is now brimming with several messages. Two from Carol, two from Paula, and the most recent one from an unknown number...

In order they read,

Paula: 'I found Dante, he's at WoodBridge ter, his stepdad's condo. He hasn't been kicked out yet it seems.' 'Erick, get down to the station now, they are going to send out a squad to your house in the next hour if you can't make it here.'

Carol: 'Hey Erick, mind coming to my school to pick me up? Sorry, I may have missed the bus...', 'No worries Erick, I did what you said, this suit is amazing!'
???: 'Hey Erick, it's Dante, we need to talk. Come by the Gantz apartment now and...sorry I blew up at you.'

There's no time to waste, as you begin to speed out of the parking garage and to the DC Police HQ. You heart begins to race as well, as you imagine what Dante's gonna say once he figures out you ditched him, not to mention how long Carol is going to wait for you if you take as long as you are.

At every stop and red light, you take out your phone and type as quickly and shortly as you can back to each of them.

'Police need to speak to me,' you manage between driving to Carol, 'might be late, I'll call you.'

'Police giving me trouble,' you struggle to piece to Dante, as you come abrupt stops for red lights, 'I'll call back.'

You don't even look at their responses as you approach the side gate of the Washington DC Police HQ, where you can several news vans are still heading out to the front of the office in spite of it being mid afternoon.

Seeking to avoid media attention, you turn your car to the back, and head to a parking space away from their prying eyes. You don't make it past second police gate, before an officer stops you.

"Erick Vanders?", he asks as you roll down the window and nod, "You need to step out of the car, and head inside."

Doesn't stop for you agree, and opens the driver's door from the inside. You very quietly step out, and follow his gaze to a back entrance.

"Need you to enter those doors and present your ID to the first officer that asks," he steps into the driver seat of your car, "Follow them, and get in the interrogation room, Officer Torrez is waiting for you there."

He takes your car, and goes to park it into their own depot behind a gatehouse. There's a small bit of you that wants to refuse, but you may as well go through with it now. You enter the doors and head inside.

Like the officer said, you present your ID and a cop leads you to the interrogation room. In this claustrophobic space, you find Paula sitting in a metal chair, and a fat older looking deputy across the table from her, and a tall, muscular looking officer that looks as old you.

"Mr. Vanders, please you could join us," the fat deputy stands up, and goes to shake your hand, "Please take a seat, we only got a few questions and some things we want to clear up through Officer Torrez's testimony."

You're handed a seat by the taller officer, and you go to sit down at the table.

"First thing's first,", he takes a small recording device from his pocket, "what were you doing and where were you going on the afternoon of April 9th, before the gas explosion."

"I was going home," you explain to them, "the closest route to my home from work is there."

"Hmm," responds the deputy, "very well, that checks out so far."

He motions to the muscular officer, and tells him to leave the room. The officer protests, but leaves nonetheless when the deputy doesn't respond. You can see a look of brief relief on Paula's face as the officer makes for the door.

"Sorry, where are my manner," he speaks after the officer shuts the door, "I'm Richard Vayler, but you can call me Rick."

"Now, I am not sure how much of Officer Torrez's story aligns with yours so far, but I can at least trust that I wont need more security here than Torrez over there for now."

He brings up a folder with a small carrying case, and in it he pulls out a smartphone. It's completely black, and has a hard cover on it to protect from heavy impacts. He turns it on, and switches it to a gallery of images, showing you two very distinct shots.

One of them shows nothing but some smoke stacks rising from a crack in the ground as people begin to disperse. You can see Torrez heading towards the crowd in the shot. The second one is a more gruesome shot, showing a severed leg, and a burn foot below an overturned Sedan.

"The first was taken moments before the explosion," he explains, "The second right after. You know anything about this Mr. Vanders?"

"No...", you try your best to sound quietly disturbed, knowing full well where those limbs came from, "But...what's with the severed...limbs"

The deputy looks at you expectantly, and goes to look at his phone again. He scrolls through the images, and starts speaking in a relaxed tone.

"It's graphic I know," he stands, and goes to you, "But if you look closely at the limbs, you see pieces of fabric attached still attached to them. Fabric that looks a lot like an officer's pant legs."

He zooms in, and indeed they have the pant legs still on them. Burnt but nonetheless intact.

"Deputy Vayler," Paula speaks up, "Nothing was retrieved from the scene of the crime, no one even saw limbs or anything of the sort when they investigated after the first explosion."

"But," he goes to Paula this time, "I have it on very good authority you were spotted trying to help up a young man, a young man that looks eerily similar to the one sitting right next to you."

"Eyewitness evidence is inconclusive," she replies back, "No matter how reliable this person may be."

He looks to the far wall, moves away from the table and the looks back at you both with a look of concern.

"Then I think you will find this a bit more conclusive," he presses a button on the smartphone, and a projector screen appears on the wall, "Security camera footage, taken during the accident from a local coffee shop."

He presses a few more times on his phone, and the screen flashes to first a still, and then a video feed of the intersection near the cars. There, you see a pair of individuals, running from the explosion, one appears in a police officer's uniform but the other is in a hoodie and jeans. There's a lull in the footage, as the explosion erupts with fire, and the two figures are then gone.

"Well?", he speaks back to you both, "I have already confirmed that was officer Torrez in the footage, as her build and the uniform type match her squad deployed there. The question now is however, who is the young man running next to her?"

>Truth, it's...me.

You say nothing, deciding that perhaps it is time to stick a neutral setting if this is going to keep adding fuel to the fire.

"Go nothing to say Mr. Vanders?" Rick moves closer to you, as the footage loops on the recorder, "Because your silence is not doing you any favors."

"Richard," Paula interjects, "He doesn't know anything, and there's no conclusive way to prove the man in the video is him."

Rick turns from you and turns to Paula, stopping the video feed as he approaches.

"I don't know how you managed to survive that explosion," he starts, looking quite concerned at Paula, "and then show up in the department the very next day unscathed with a story of how a young man protected you with his body, but don't you dare make a fool out of me with that story."

He pulls out another cellphone, this time it's Paula's. You see her flinch slightly, but not enough for Rick to see it.

"You don't think we kept tabs?", he looks directly at you this time, "What's this business about meeting up later? Or what occurred the night before? Why do you match the body type of the person in the video? But before that any of that, why are you in this officer's contacts? And I suggest to chose your words, VERY CAREFULLY."

OOC: All signs point to girlfriending, so I'll include the write in as the first choice as well.

You take a deep breath, and rub your temples as if seeming to recall something.

"Guess it's no longer a secret, huh," you start, with Rick looking intently at you and Paula's eyes widening at your response, "I believe you know I work at Wal-Mart? The big super-center near Fort Oaks, past the iHop?"

"Well, officer Torrez is a regular customer there, and I see her quite often throughout my week where I regularly talk to her," you continue your story, "But a week ago, I got up the courage of asking her for her number, and last Sunday we kind of started going out."

Paula's eyes beam with what you can only assume is incredulity, but some pride in your intelligence, maybe. Rick however, is furrowing his brow now.

"So," he starts to reply, "You're both together? And the reason as to why you keep talking to each other like this is because you've met since before last week?"

"The phone's new," she notes, "it was a present from him, that's why the previous week doesn't show up on the messages."

You want to flash a wry smile at Paula for that one, but Rick's face says all you need to know. With a deep sigh, he goes turns his back to you both.

"Interrogation's over," he doesn't turn to look at you, but you can tell he's frustrated, "But don't think we won't look into this 'relationship' further Mr. Vanders."

"I don’t see how my advances at officer Torres are your concern," you reply with a slightly smug smile, "Don't you have an HR Department for this sort of thing?"

He turns his head very slowly, and you see a scowl that slightly deflates your smug grin.

"OUT, both of you,", he points to the door, "And Officer Torrez, turn in your gun and badge. For the next week, you're under preventative probation until something comes up on your case."

She only nods in response to him, and you both head out to the police office. As you are both escorted out of the front, with Torrez having relinquished her badge and gun, you head out of the back doors to avoid the remains of the press hanging out by the front. You head for your car, before Paula stops walking behind you.

"Did you mean it?", she asks, "What you meant in the interrogation room, or was it really just a lie to get us out of there?"

"Because it was a really smart thing to do you know, and...I don't really mind it, if you don't...

+1 Trust (Paula Torrez)

You turn around, looking at her with determination in your eyes.

"I did," you say nodding in reply, "though, I wish the circumstances could be have been better."

She looks at you intently, as if she's gauging you and your posture for something.

"Really," she asks with a serious brow, "Why then? Why was that the first thing that came to your mind? Why me?"

You search around your feelings, and find that there's no clear answer. You could say that you did it out of respect, because she saved your life and as well as in the hunt. On the other hand, you did it because it was the first thing that came to mind, because it is the truth. Yet, on the other hand, there's the fact that this woman has stuck by your side out of a degree of loyalty you've never seen in many other people, and you're just following through with her. All valid points, yet you decide on something simpler.

"I was going to ask later on," you start, "You still owed me that beer, and you're a bad looker. Though, in all honesty, I would love to take you to dinner if you want."

Her eyes are wide again, this time out of some intense feeling that perhaps is welling up inside you as well. She quickly closes the distance, and gives you a deep hug.

"You stupid man," she start up, panting a little bit, "You brave, stupid, and all around good man..."

She eventually lets go after a several seconds pass, and passes a small item to you.

"You'll need this," she speaks up, as you look at the item, "It's an encryption key to the police database. I sneaked it out in case I couldnt access the network anymore, but I know you'll keep it safe."

After you stuff it in your pocket, you find yourself alone with Paula on a late DC afternoon. Before you can respond you thank her however, a ringing from your cellphone snaps you both out of the moment. It's Carol and Dante...

<Session Start>

You slide your phone unlocked, and check your your messages. The most recent is from Dante, with another one from him right after, and the earliest one from Carol. You read them in order.

Carol: 'Stay safe Erick, and don't trust the police. I'll stay home for now then.'

Dante: 'Shit...alright, I'll head back home. Don't die yet.' 'Hey Erick, you said you'd call back, are you alright?'

"Would you look at that," Paula is looking over your shoulder at the messages, "they're concerned about you."

"How did Dante even get my number," you ask halfheartedly, before you hear a wry chuckle from Paula, "You didn't..."

She goes for her vest pocket, and pulls out her phone. She shows you a list of contacts, and points to two specific ones. They're named as 'Senator Stepdad', and 'Dante'.

"I called his stepfather since Dante's phone wasn't answering," she explains, "The man sounded almost happy when a police officer asked for his stepson, so he put Dante on the line we talked a bit about what happened, and what he said to you after we got back."

"It's better if he explains to you the details, since Dante mentioned he wanted to have a heart to heart about the whole ordeal in person."

You knew that there was something about Paula since that moment she tried to rescue you, that was different than all of the women that had come before. Something adaptive and capable, but this was something different. You couldn't really describe it, but it almost felt dangerous.

"You're something else Paula," you speak up impressed, and she smiles at the compliment.

"So," she starts, looking out to the police depot, "where to now? I got no car at the moment, so...I'm kind of hoping for a ride here, though my house's close by."

"Well," you start, as you head to the depot with Paula, "we said we needed to train with the equipment, so we should go through with it. Just a matter of what we do first."

The fact that he didn't realize that white men don't get beaten or shot by the police yet is what surprises me.

You start heading to the police depot to pick up your car, with Paula following right behind you.

"What's the plan, Erick," she asks, looking at the depot guard-station, "If we're going to train, mind if we stop by my place first, it's right around the curb here."

You both keep moving forward, and Paula notifies the officer guarding the depot about your car. They call into their dispatch, and clear you both for entry, giving you directions for your car and handing you the keys.

"Gonna have to call Dante first," you mention as you both make your way through the depot, "he's been expecting a call for a while and is probably getting worried."

You make your way to your sedan, and open the door for Paula before stepping in yourself.

"We're gonna have to pick up Carol after that, since she's probably been waiting the longest," you continue, after you turn the vehicle on, "Then, we can swing by your place. The route to Roosevelt goes through this road, so we'll have to come back anyways."

"Looks like you got everything planned out," Paula comments as she buckles her seatbelt, "so, no complaints here."

You take the car off of park, and start making your way out of the depot. At the guard station, while they're clearing you out, you bring up Dante's number. You press the button for a call, and he takes about 4 seconds to answer.

"Erick," he speaks, sounding somewhat tired, "What's up? You alright man?"

"Yeah, sorry for worrying you," you reply, waving off the police officers at the station, "I'm alright. We're heading to Roosevelt Island to test out the equipment, and we're going to pick up Carol now."

"You're smarter than most people in the game," he says somewhat heartily, "alright, let me get my gear. I'll meet you all there, got to talk with you anyways."

He hangs up the phone after that, though it's probably better to not have it during rush hour. As you make your way to Franklin St to pick up Carol something on your mind regarding...

"Hey Paula," you start, and she turns her head to you, "I've been thinking...exactly why were they interrogating us at the police station? I doubt they'd be so forceful if they just want to confirm a missing person's case here..."

"It's standard investigational procedure to narrow all possibilities in a case," she replies, somewhat chaste, "In short, they were trying to see if we had anything to do with the explosion itself."

You almost backpedal in your seat that.

"How could they think that?", you mention, somewhat aghast, "Are they suspecting foul play? Like, they can't think we're domestic terrorists just because we lived through it."

"It's not just that," she continues, as you round a corner, "we not only survived, but also did so unscathed, and then dissapeared from a crowded scene. It rings of too much suspicion to them to really pass off as a coincidence."

"It's not that they think it's us, it's that they don't know it's us. Until they can investigate further, or some sort of evidence comes up to shift the blame, we'll be on their radar for a few more weeks."

"Shit...", you let slip, getting a slight lurch in your stomach, "Can you even talk about it? I know there is something about cops not being able to discuss this stuff."

"Lucky for you," she reclines a little bit back, as she says this, "for the next week, I'm not a cop anymore."

You find Carol's home quickly enough, after instructions from Paula lead to her driveway. The home looks like it's seen better days, and the neighborhood as well but you don't think of spending much time here anyways. You send a message to Carol, notifying her of your arrival, and she's out the door in a few seconds with a backpack of her own.

"Erick," Carol calls out, opening the passenger door, "glad you made it! Hey Paula, what happened to your uniform?"

"Long story sweetheart," she calls back, "Though, Chris can tell you if you want."

"Well, I need to focus on the road," you start, and then turn your head to Paula, "You probably remember it better than I do."

She gives you a look, but quickly turns to Carol afterwards.

"Well, if Erick insists," she's says, as Carol is listening intently, "We both had a bit of trouble with the police after an investigation into the DC Gas Main explosion landed us hot water."

"Yeah, I remember that," she mentions, "You were on the news, and I got kind of worried when they said you were had been killed. Was the other person in the explosion Erick?"

"Yeah, I tried to save him from it," she looks back at you, and you turn your head in somewhat embarrassment at the circumstance, "but since we of turned up the next day alive, we were suspects in the case."

"They think you both did it?", she speaks, not surprised by confused, "My brother said that the explosion was caused by a broken segment in the underground pipes, he works as a repairman for the gas company so he says he knows about it."

"Yeah," Paula looks quizzically, "that was something the police are currently investigating as well. I guess they just want to cover their bases though, even if they put me on probation for it..."

"Sorry to hear that," Carol says, as you begin to approach Paula's house, "I mean, you're one of the nicer officers I've met, so it feels wrong to see the other start going after you both."

You arrive to Paula's house not a block away from the police HQ, and let her out to get her gear. The apartment itself looks new, though you can't imagine how Paula is able to afford it on an officer's salary. You sigh, and look at the time on your phone.

6:30 PM.

You actually realize that between your escapade at the docks and the police HQ, you didn't even eat lunch. You don't imagine what Paula's probably been in considering she was there since the morning.

"Hey Carol," you say, and she turns to you, "You eat dinner before getting here?"

"Nah," she says, shaking in slight disgust, "Grandma's stew third time this week, not having that stuff again..."

Before you turn back, you see Paula return from the apartments with a big dufflebag and motioning to your trunk. You oblige her, open it, and she starts putting her gear in.

"Want to head out to eat with us?" you ask, turning back to Carol, "It'll be on me, since I took so long getting to you."

"Sure," she replies, as your trunk slams shut, "But can it be 5-Guys? I love their burgers."

"Talking about 5-Guys without me?", Paula says as she enters her seat, "because you're buying, and don't think this counts as that dinner you promised."

"Dinner?", Carol inquires, before you face-palm and put the car on drive.

"Fine," you say as you head towards the restaurant, "But we eat when we get to Roosevelt, I'm not having ketchup stains in my interior."

You find a 5-Guys on route to Roosevelt Bridge that will take you to the island. Paula and Carol order theirs, but you order an extra portion for Dante. You figure you can use it as a truce offering, as well as a nice gift for making him wait for so long as well.

You head towards the main entraceway towards Roosevelt, and park your car nearby the bridge. While the trams are closed after 7, the land bridge sure isn't. You and the others put on your suits, grab your bags, and start heading towards the meeting place. You begin to wonder where you'll find Dante, but it doesn't take long before you find at the statue square.

"Yo," he calls out to you all, waving a hand, "Glad to see you're prepared, but first something for you Erick."

He moves closer to you, and the opens up his arms in a strange stance.

"Hit me," he says as he stands before you, arms spread out, "I feel like I owed you one after last night."

"Whoa hold on a minute," Paula steps forward, looking at you both, "Are you actually gonna just hit him? I thought you were here to talk things out."

"Let him do it Paula," Carol chimes in, looking at Paula, "This is something guys have to do, if they want to be even and all."

It looks like Paula is going to retort but, you give her a look of relief and she steps back. Dante doesn't move from his stance since they started speaking, but nods at you, letting you know it's alright.

You nod at him right back, and clench your fist. A bit of the suit's power activates at this, and you instantly release it. You step back a little, and then throw yourself forward at Dante, punching him in the chest.

He doesn't move, and doesn't even lurch back. In fact, where your punch lands there's now a bigger mass of muscle than before extending from his clothes.

"What?," he smiles jokingly at you, "You got a free punch, didn't say it was gonna hurt me though."

Paula and Carol both are confused by the turn of events until Dante takes off his shirt. He had the suit right under it, but you kind of figured that.

"These suits are more than just for show," he talks to everyone, moving towards a bench where his own backpack is at, "They enhance our bodies in a way that I can only describe as super human. And today, we're gonna learn how make them work for us."

+1 Trust (Dante Bowery)

"First though," you interject, and Dante turns to you, "we eat. Can't run around on an empty stomach."

You present him a bag of 5-guys, still warm, and say, "Figured you'd be hungry too, so let bygones be bygones, and all that."

He looks at you in an iquisitive manner until he opens the bag.

"Shit man," he smiles and he sticks a fry in his mouth, "How'd you know I love cajun fries?"

He laughs at this, and others smile as you head towards the benches with your burgers. As Carol and Paula have their own conversation about the whole punching to get even thing, Dante has a very calm look on his face as he chows down on his burger.

"He wasn't as mad as I thought he'd be," he speaks, while dipping a set of 3 fries, "my stepdad, you know. He knew Chris was a douchebag as well, but figured Chris would turn up sooner or later."

"Looking back," you start, staring into trees, "Maybe I could have done something to save him. You know, if I had known everything between the two of you."

"That's hindsight bias for you," he finishes the last bit of burger, "Though, I can't be entirely mad at you, if anything because I should have kept him under control better."

He picks up the remains of his food, and tosses it into a nearby garbage bin.

"At least for now," he says as he takes his seat at the bench next to you, "the old man isn't gonna do anything to me until something turns up, so I got to get him back so this whole thing doesn't fall apart."

"What do you mean by that?", you ask, as turning to face him, "What's gonna fall apart?"

He turns away from you, and towards his bag, stating, "I'll tell you some other time, for now though, we got get prepared."

It feels like you've poked at something with Dante but you feel he's a little more open to you at least. As the girls finish their discussion, and food, they head towards Dante.

'Guess we'll talk about it later.'

"First thing's first," Dante announces, facing the three of you, "You can't get an alien without finding it, so we're gonna fix this getting used to the radar and all of it's functions."

He looks at you and Paula.

"Pair up, since you don't have a radar of your own," he speaks, and looks to Carol, "you're with me, since I don't think you've seen one of these firsthand."

He starts by pointing out the first tracking function, but you all kind of already knew that. Then he turns one of the knobs on the radar, and the dots disappear from the digital map. Paula is looking intently to see if she can replicate this.

"This thing tracks in frequencies," he turns the knob back counterclockwise, and the dots appear, "once left to see everything that moves, twice right for just aliens, and once right for us."

He turns the knob again, and sets radar back to its default.

"There's also another function to it," he speaks, motioning to Carol to step back a little. He presses one of the buttons on the radar's pad, and right before your eyes, a sheen of light covers Dante's body. It remains him for a second, before his whole body disappears from sight. You hear him stepping around Carol, who's actively looking for him.

"As you can clearly see," he ironically says, "the middle button makes you invisible, along with any equipment you have on you. Yet for whatever reason..."

You hear the sound of one of the pistols going off and a shine coming next to Carol. You all look at Dante's body appear, and at the branch he shot at explode into splinters.

"It goes away if you shoot," he points to Paula, and you, "Now try it, Paula, go invisible, and see if Erick can find you in the trees. This will be an exercise in staying stealthy for you, and tracking for him. I will do the same with Carol.

Paula nods, and looks at you if you're ready.

Radar (Novice)
+1 INT

You give Paula the go-ahead, and she does as Dante instructed. She presses the middle button on the radar, and her body near instantly disappears from sight. You can still hear her footsteps, but she's getting away faster into the trees faster than you thought.

You follow in after her, but soon you stop hearing her footsteps on the forest soil, not even the odd branch or crackle of leaf.

'She's either being really careful,' you think as you scan your surroundings, 'Or...she could not be on the ground anymore...'

You look at the nearest climbable tree, yet see leaves disturbed or branches bent. There's no way she managed to scale up a tree this quickly...

It's then that you see something, very small but very conspicuous on the ground. You got to pick up the object, and realize that it's an acorn. Very small and green, but an acorn nonetheless.

'Oak tree...', you no scan the environment, and come across the tallest one in the probably the whole forest, 'Doesn't even have branches close to the ground, and she just...got up there like that.'

You spot a slightly bent branch, near the top of the tree's crown, and decide to feign ignorance in case Paula's looking at you. You move out of line of sight of what you assume is her line of sight on the branch, and move to the other side of the tree.

'Time for a surprise baby girl,' you think as you propel yourself upwards with a running leap, and you go to grab the first thing on the branch. Sure enough, a yelp from Paula is enough to signify you found her and you both tumble down to the forest floor.

"How did you...", she says as she uncloaks, panting slightly.

"When you look for products for as long as I do," you slyly say, getting off of her, "you learn a thing or two about tracking."

She laughs slightly, and you help her get up.

In the distance, you hear Dante and Carol calling you both over, it seems there may be something more to learn.

You regroup with Dante and Carol at the statue yard where you first arrived. You take a look at both of them and it seems that Carol is having a bit of a hard time standing up as she's panting heavily. Paula takes a concerned look at her, and then a slightly more aggressive look at Dante.

"Don't worry," she speaks up, catching her breath, "He just, kind of jumped when I went to look for him."

"She needs to learn to stay focused," Dante explains patting Carol in the back, "if an enemy sneaks up on you, that could be your life next time."

Dante helps her to one of the benches and you all head there as well. After he helps Carol to a bench, he pulls out a few items from his backpack. His phone, and a metal bat.

"We don't have that much time left today," he motions to his phone, "But I can at least show you how to activate your suits at will."

He sets up a timer on his phone, and hands you the baseball bat.

"Take that, and swing at me," he speaks, as everyone in the group now wears a shocked expression, "the arm, the head, the stomach, just hit something, and this time do it at full strength."

"Are you crazy?!" Paula shouts, stepping forward, "Punching you is one thing, but a baseball bat?!"

"I know what I'm doing," he says, and looks at you, "Just swing, I'm about to show you what this thing can really do."

Paula doesn't finish her sentence before you twist your body, and arch yourself for a vicious swing at Dante. Your suit begins to swell with muscular fiber that enhances your body forward into a half-turn of man and metal. He actually flinches in the half second it takes for the bat to make contact with his body.

His own suit expands, and swells with muscular fiber as the bat is making contact and what happens next drops everyone's jaws. Dante's body is sent flying to a nearby tree, which nearly splinters in half with the sheer force of your swing. He falls to the ground with a groan and what looks like the wind knocked completely out of him.

Everyone takes a moment to look at him, and then at your bat or what's left of it. The metal on is bent so far back it looks like it might snap in half if you bent it more. The girl's hair also stops moving slightly, as it seems you may have created a small vacuum of wind with the sheer force of your blow.

"Y-Yeah..." Dante gasps for air as he speaks to the group, "that's what I'm talking about man."

His suit looks like it is smoking or steam is coming off of it at he gets up. Carol is at his side as she helps him up this time. Paula is giving you a look that's bordering on disbelief and disapproval. Carol brings him forward, arm slung over her shoulder.

"Your suits are capable of enhancing your strength, your defense and your agility by nearly 10 times a normal human's," he talks to you guys as he sits down on a bench, "The key to unlocking it is intent. The intent to run, the intent to defend, and the intent to attack, it's all relative to activating the suit's abilities and your own focus."

He looks to the other bench and checks the stopwatch app on his phone.

"Don't got enough time to teach everyone whole thing," he states, as he goes to put the phone in his case, "but here's the skinny."

He points to one of the buttons on the suit, and you all see it is glowing blue, and fading slightly back to navy blue.

"These indicate how much punishment your suit can take," he continues as the button finally fades, "Give them enough time, and they recharge to protect you, like a shield. Take too many hits or get hit by something other than blunt force, and the entire thing stops working."

He motions to the bat's remains in your hands. You hand it to him and he stuffs it in the backpack.

"Try to meet up here whenever you can", he announces, as he goes out of the park, "we can work on other things, but try to focus one aspect for a bit or you'll get confused and the training won't do shit."

OOC: Fug it, I'll include this little bit.

As you wave Dante goodbye, Paula gives you a tap on the shoulder. You turn around and see she's looking a little irritated, though Carol appears to be trying to calm her.

"That was reckless Erick," she says, in a slightly agitated tone, "Why did you swing full force like that?"

"We knew what we were doing," you reply, equal calm in your eyes, "he asked me because I had prior experience with the suit in the hunt, I know how to control it better than you both."

Carol's irritated expression calms slightly, and she looks at you with what you only describe as a pleading scowl.

"I just...", she's says, stumbling over her words a bit, "Don't want to see good people get hurt. This whole game is going to cause a lot more people to die, and I want to keep that from happening..."

You give her a sullen look, and hold her hand slightly.

"That's what the training's for," you look at her, and she straightens her gaze back, "we can risk pain or injury now, to prevent it from happening in the game. Now come over here, I got something to show you both."

A slight tear comes from Paula's eyes, but you don't see as she and Carol move closer to you and your dufflebag. You shuffle some things around, and pull out the gun you found at the pier.

Carole and Paula are somewhat surprised you're carrying it, but you hold it over your should and then aim at the farthest tree possible. You noted the sights on this thing, so you take aim down the digital scope as you swing it forward.

X-Rifle (Beginner)

You aim down the sights, and take a shot at the furthest tree away from your sight. There's two triggers so following the pattern of the other two guns you fire at the branch and see it and part of the tree itself explode into splinters.

"Yeah," Carol says, as she approaches you, "that's way stronger than the pistols, mind if I have a shot?"

You hand it over to her and motion her on how to hold it effectively. You're not a gun nut, but you figured a couple of things out from sheer comfort of grip and imitating Dante's original stance with it.

"I don't know how far it can shoot," you let her know as she fires a couple of shots into the trees, "But, its range is significantly higher than the pistols for sure, same fire delay though."

You all see and hear several splintering explosions in the night, as Carol hands you back the rifle. You motion to Paula if she wants to have a try, and she accepts it with mild curiosity.

"Where did you even find it?", Paula asks as she takes steady aim at something in the water, "I thought there weren't any of these outside of the room."

Gantz usually prints the nicknames rather than names, and the suits have been stated to only work with their original recipient in the manga, so I wouldn't be too worried.

"Truth is," you sigh as you say, "I went back to pier, and had a look around to if there was anything to salvage from the previous night."

You see an explosion off in the water, and then a cascade of droplets as it expands outward.
This however, doesn't compare to the explosion that Paula soon unleashes on as she drops the rifle on the ground.

"What. The. Fuck were you thinking?!", she looks straight at you with fury in her eyes, "there were police everywhere there the whole day! What do you think would have happened to you if you'd been caught?! Did you even consider the risk you idiot?!"

"I did consider the options, did it on my own for a reason," you say sternly as you step back a little, "I didn't want to involve you at the time, and I figured it was better than to leave that shit for the police to find anyways."

"I can't believe you right now," she says in a shocked manner, "You didn't even tell me or anything. Is that why you took so long to get to the station?! I could have helped you get there for crying out loud, did you even think?!"

"Like I said before, I didn't want to get you into more trouble if I was caught," you reply, slightly deflated at your fault in reason, "I'm sorry, Paula, but if anyone was going to take the risk, I figured it should have just been me."

"You're incredible you know that," she says, as she goes to pick up her things, "At least you had the balls to tell me, if not 7 hours late."

She briskly walks back to the park entrance without you or Carol. You try to call her back, but she only gives you cold shoulder. Carol turns to you with her how backpack in hand and just gives you look before heading back to car as well. As you're left there alone, you only look at the night sky go to pick up your things.

'This is going to be an awkward car ride...'

The car ride is indeed quiet and awkward as you make your way through nighttime DC. They don't even talk to each other, instead opting to look at their phones or at the DC nightlights. It thankfully only takes you 15 minutes to get to Paula's place first.

She opens the door briskly, and without saying a word, and goes to the trunk to pick up her things. You hastily open it for her, and she begins pulling out her duffelbag. A certain amount of excuses and apologies begin to swarm in your head as you look at the night in front of you. You contemplation is cut short, as Paula knocks on your driver window, and you pull it does to let her speak.

"Don't ever do that again," she says sternly, but somewhat solemnly, "I can help you, so please let me know. Ok?"

You only nod before she quickly kisses your forehead and leaves for her apartment entrance. She stops at the top of steps however, and shouts back smiling a little, "Thanks for the ride and food!"

You smile back and the close the window and drive Carol home.
Oddly enough, the ride to Carol's home is not as bad as you thought, as the girl actually guides you on a safe route through the neighborhood, saying, "It's probably better than there's still some light out."

You approach her front porch, and a tall black man is standing right at the door as you pull up. He takes notice of you, and gives you a stone faced look as you stop the car. Carol heads out with her stuff and heads to the entrance.

"Thanks for the ride Erick!," she shouts heading inside. Her brother heads in with her, not dropping his gaze from you for a second until he closes the door.

'All's well that ends well, I guess', you think to yourself, and then look to the dark streets, 'Now...how do I get out of here?'

Through fortune, or probably just the speedy panic of your driving, you make it back home in one piece and without getting mugged. As you plop yourself down on your bed, after taking the suit off and stuffing the rest of your gear in your closet, you take a look at your phone.

11:00 PM.

Before we continue on, let me explain a few final rules to this quest.

-Everyday between hunts, barring the very next day following a hunt, will be handled in a daily routine system, consisting of 4 portions of the day: Morning, Midday, Afternoon, Evening.

-You can carry out activities and events during these times, though unless they progress a specific ability, skill or character trust, you it won't be explained in heavy detail. ex: You went to the gym. You did some weights, cardio, and you feel a little better, but you didn't get +1 yet.

- Activities can take up time in the day such as going to work or they can be benign such as calling someone or waking up unless specified otherwise.

-Some activities require travel time but won't take up a portion of the day unless it is particularly far away. This accounts for travel back and forth from the target activity.

-Finally, yeah, I did rip this system off from the Persona series, but it's probably the most useful template I have to expedite a week in your life without skimping too heavily on details.

Anyways, let's carry on.

You head to bed early, knowing that work tomorrow is going to be a pain in the ass if you're sleepy and haggard. It doesn't take much time for you doze off considering how much extraneous activity you did today.

Only if we start seeing some blue butterflies flying around.

It takes a little bit more to brew some earl gray than just chugging down some OJ, but it's worth it for that early morning buzz that doesn't resolve in coffee addiction.

As you busy yourself making a bacon and egg bagel, you text back Paula on her plans for the evening. There's a restaurant you've been dying to try out, and maybe now's the time to get in on it.

'Yeah, how does 6:30 PM at Tasca's sound? I'll swing by your place 10 min before though.'

You don't wait for an immediate response as you eat your crafted bagel, and douse your thirst with the tea. With equal amounts of speed and accuracy, you make for the door and your car.

<April 11th, Wednesday, 8:00 AM>

As you're driving to the Walmart, your phone rings with a message from Paula.

'Awesome, never tried Spanish tapas before. All my mom ever made were meat empanadas. Anyways, see you then!'

You close the phone with a smile. Looks like you've got a dinner date set up.

<April 11th, Wednesday, 8:30 AM>

You arrived early, so Ryan doesn't yell you out as you head inside. Your other co-workers are whispering about you, and about the explosion by you were supposedly in. You don't pay them much attention though, as you head to your daily duties.

<April 11th, Wednesday, 4:30 PM>

Average shift, with only a few customer complaints today. Thankfully, it was over on schedule and didn't involve you pulling an extra hour because of a small Walmart riot.

As you head back home, you contemplate on what you should wear when you go to pick up Paula for your date.

<April 11th, Wednesday, 6:10 PM>

You head out in your finest pair of high top sneakers, black jeans, and dress shirt pair. You figure that Paula's expecting a nice dinner with her boyfriend, and not a wedding reception so you put on something to look decent but not gawdy.

At least that's the plan anyways as you head to her house.

<April 11th, Wednesday, 6:20 PM>

'I'm outside, you ready for some good eats?'

She doesn't respond but a beautiful latin woman in a spring cardigan and jeans makes for your co-pilot seat. You unlock the door, and she makes her way in with a smile on her face.

"You bet," she replies finally, "But, you're paying for this as well."

You give her a look, and she burst out in laughter at this.

"Just playing with you," she says at the end of her joke,"We're going Dutch on this one."

You head off to the Tapas restaurant with...your girlfriend. It has never struck you how quickly life has changed for you in the last 2 days, yet here you are.

You were relying on a policy of no attachments for so long, yet...you've let someone into your life in such a manner. You lived on a bi-weekly minimum wage paycheck...yet all of that ended the moment Gantz turned you into a hunter...

You don't think much on the change however, as you take on look at smile on Paula's face and think...

'Maybe, it's for the best.'

How closely will this stick to the Manga events?
>>
>>2294315
If you're talking about accuracy to mechanics and setting, then I am trying to keep it as close to the manga as possible, while adding a few new elements to make this quest interesting.

That being said, I make mistakes considering it's been a while since I read Gantz. So feel free to yell at me if that happens.

If you're talking about timeline or events themselves, this is an AU setting for Gantz so some international events may be altered from the original series.

That being said, there will be mirrors to special events and hunts like the Osaka mission. Though, I can't say much more on that because it'll spoil future plans I have for this quest.

Do you believe that god exists?
What would god look like? Could we even comprehend it?
If god is real, why do bad things happen?
Does he even care about us?
Is it even possible for him to care?
He could surely fix everything for us in an instant.
But he won't.
Perhaps god is cruel.
Perhaps god enjoys seeing humans suffer.

You finish giving the server your order, and Paula looks at you with a sly smile on her face.

Paula seems to be a happier at this outcome, even if your wallet is going to be feeling the sting for it in a few days.

'Eh, I can cut down on the bacon anyways,' you think, as you imagine your fridge getting a little emptier.

It's going to take a little bit for the food to get here, and probably longer to eat it considering the portion size for your table. What should you talk about with Paula during your date?

After Paula hands the server her menu, and starts looking around the restaurant, probably finding it as rustic as you probably did when you entered.

"Well, they certainly are authentic," she comments, and then looks at you, "if anything, at least I won't have to order for myself this time."

"You know Paula, I've been wondering," you begin, "Why exactly did you join the force?"

"Well," she says, looking a little quizzical about it, "at first, I kind of did it to upset my father, as stupid as that may sound."

You sit there a little surprised at her initial reason, but keep your focus and listen on to her story.

"You see, my dad is kind of an executive in Coldwell Banker," she continues, with your eyes widening a little, "And he wanted me to go into Real Estate when I grew up. Imagine his surprise when his only daughter graduates into Criminal Justice under his nose and goes applies for a police Academy in DC."

"So you're-", you start, yet the thought is finished by Paula.

"Yeah, I'm kind of rich," she states, "But I don't really care all that much about money. When I came to DC, I began to realize that none of that matters when you're dying from a gunshot wound or a car accident."

"I hate seeing people in pain, yet I know I am powerless to stop all of that from happening in the world. But, if I can make a difference in the lives of a few people in this city, then I don't regret a single part of my choice."

You always knew Paula was a determined woman the moment she tried to save you, but somehow you see her as a bit more than that now. Perhaps its because you view a part of yourself in her, that rebellious instinct to go your own way. You would think more on it, but you realize your food's arrived.

A bristling, steamy plate of rice and seafood enters your table, and it's tangy smell enters both of your noses. Along with it, a bottle of red wine is served at the table, and two large glasses are poured for you both by your waiter.

As you and Paula are divvying up the portion onto your plates, another conversation forms in your mind.

"So, why DC?" you ask, while serving yourself a few more oysters, "What do you like about it exactly?"

"The people," she says as she starts on her plate, "in New York, or the part where I used to live in, everyone was either too uptight or too friendly honestly. In DC, everyone's got a sense of normality, yet has a buzz in their life."

"How do you figure?" you state as you start working on your own portion, "I mean, I'm not one to judge as I've only been in the city for a month or so."

"Well," she replies, "I guess is it's in how they move. Everyone's always going somewhere, but the rush never intense or overbearing."

"Sure, rush hour traffic makes anyone pissed but you could say that about anywhere. Honestly, it make me feel more at ease when I'm driving or just walking down the street you know?"

Every-time you talked to someone about why they liked DC, it was always the landmarks or the city's nightlife or something along those lines but, Paula's response rings in a strangely homely light. It's strange to think that a woman this intent on uphold justice and comes from a well off family, has such a down to earth outlook on a city.

After paying for your food, and tipping the waiter, you decide to let Paula drive for a bit after crashing a little from the wine. She laughs at you slightly about not being able to hold your liquor, but it was only after the 4th glass that you really started to feel it.

As you're both driving down towards Paula's house, there's a strange twang of amusement in your mind.

'Huh, that actually went kind of great.'

You arrive at Paula's apartment. You're feeling a little less drunk now, so you get out of the co-pilot seat and head to the driver's. However, you meet Paula near the front of your car, probably since she was trying to get back home.

"Had a great time you know," she says, looking you straight in the eyes, "food was great, the wine was great, and...you were great, listening to...all of my ramblings."

<April 11th, Wednesday, 9:00 PM>

You only give Paula until her second breath before you plant your lips firmly on hers. She reacts slightly surprised, and returns the gesture with equal force. A warm feeling enters your mouth, and you continue tenderly caressing her lips through it.

You feel a slight tug, wrapping around the back of your neck, as she brings her arms around you in a gentle pull. She pulls back, but the grip on her arms doesn't stop. You both look at each other for few more seconds in the caress, and she giggles slightly at the blush leaving your face.

"Yeah," she says, still holding onto you, "you are great."

She lets go finally, and takes your hand to her chest.

"I'll be looking forward to more," Paula says, and she hands you back your palm, "Just let me know beforehand, and...well, you should be able to figure out the rest."

She waves you goodbye, and she head back to her apartment building. It was a simple outing, but it would be something you would remember for a long time.

Your alarm wakes you up to another DC morning of minimum wage and probable disappointment. A small ring hits your phone, and you pick it up to see what it's about. It's Dante, with message to you.

'Hey man, didn't hear back from you yesterday. Don't neglect training, we need to keep strong if we want to survive next week. You up for it before Saturday?"

You have a whole day shift today, so it's probably impossible to head out tonight. Though, you only have a Night shift on Friday...so...

You reply back to Dante while getting off your bed.

'Yeah, but let's head to Georgetown, it's big parkour place so no one should recognize us if we're just training with the suits there. That and I got a full shift today and a night shift tomorrow.'

You wash up, get make yourself presentable for the long day ahead, and slip into your pantry to grab some snack bars to help with staving off hunger this day.

<April 12th, Thursday, 7:30 AM>

As you make your way to work, Dante texts you back a reply to your response.

'Cool, I go to school near there so we can meet around 11 AM or so. Be sure to pack some water, because we're gonna move and move fast that day.'

You reply, 'Sweet, see you then, and text the girls as well for me. Thank you.'

<April 12th, Thursday, 8:00 AM>

Your shift begins almost as hectically as you imaged it. The store is understaffed because of the rash of pollen allergies going on right now, but it's not enough to deter people from coming in. It is probably at this time, when you wish you had brought your suit with you...

You are Erick Vanders, WalMart assistant manager. Survivor of 3 Black Fridays and 2 Super-Bowl Blowout sales in Northern Virginia. You have faced rushes more aged coworkers and managers only dread to have. You have bested longer shifts that some floor managers would cry about in their lonely homesteads.

This is nothing to you. The energy bars in your pocket are the only sustenance you need to keep going through the day.

You finish your shift with efficiency and dedication beyond what your measly $12 hour salary would say imply. Even Ryan is impressed, giving you a thumbs up as you exit the WalMart's sliding doors with power in your every step. You feel you'll be getting a bonus for this one come Saturday.

<April 12th, Thursday, 9:00 PM>

As you finally let yourself take a breather on your mattress, you contemplate on the day that just transpired. You'd never worked harder in such a long time, yet you feel somewhat relieved at it now. No morning shift tomorrow, so you can probably stay up late today if you wish.

Unfortunately, the first half hour spend looking for some sweet new rare Pepes only yields so much as. At least you have the new Warhammer Slann Pepe, but you know he's only Super Rare, not to your rarity standards unfortunately.

Following that near fruitless escapade, you begin to cycle through a few news articles ongoing in the Gas Main explosion. There's a couple of reports that detail that it may have been due to a broken gas pipe or an over exertion of pressure on one of the valves themselves.

Very few of them actually speak of it being done by anyone or anything detailing domestic terrorism. In fact, many of the gas companies in the articles point to an accidental discharge and human error being the case for it.

'Why would they assume domestic terrorism that decisively on us if even the gas companies are saying it may have been an accident...'

You reach around your computer for your mouse when your hand lands on a small USB looking stick. You pick it up and remember that it was the Police Decryption piece that Paula gave to you after you left the station.

She said it can access the police database, probably get a bit more insider info. Though, you don't know how safe that's going to be now that the police are wary of and Paula.

<April 12th, Thursday, 12:30 AM>

Any sort of hesitation is gone as you plug in the key to your computer and look inside its memory.

It comes with a small instruction file, detailing the several urls and unlisted sites utilized by the investigation departments as well as instructions on how to utilize the key to access them. You quickly copy one of the URLs on your browser, and start looking up one of the databases.

There's several hundred case files just for the month alone, but you start looking through the early week, looking for the Gas Main Explosion. Even as you try to narrow your search to day prior to the explosion, you still don't find anything about the case itself.

It isn't until you look at categories for homeland security and terrorism that you start finding something there. There is a case file for vandalism in one of the DC Gas Stations near Alexandria, while another details a...

You have have to squint to see if you read it correctly. An unknown explosion and disturbance case in one of the treatment plants near Annendale. Both of these cases are listed as dead, and go back more than a month prior to the explosion. You try to access the files but a password designation is required to go further, along with an authorization code from...

'The FBI?'

Your mind is swimming with questions and theories on what this all could possibly mean, but you begin to feel that your tired body may betray your attention at any moment. You head to bed partly against your will.

<April 13th, Friday, 8:00 AM>

You wake up in a strange stupor from last night. That whole business with the encryption key and the other two cases possibly relating to the explosion are still fresh in your memory. There's no way you'll access it further now, so you decide to put it on the backburner for the moment.

You look at your phone, and decide to get up. You have 3 hours before you have to meet up with the others at Georgetown for training. What do you do?

<April 13th, Friday, 9:30 AM>

'Impressive Paula, yeah, I do like what I see. It's gonna be hard but it should be worth it today.'

You head out to your run, in the knowledge that by the end of this, you'll be a little more ready for what's ahead with Dante.

It only takes about an 1 or so to start deeply regretting your choice in pace and speed before you almost collapse halfway through your run. Either you're really out of shape as you head back, or it may be yesterday's shift finally catching up to you.

Either way it messes up your body and confidence for the training something fierce and you take the rest of the time to rest up at home before you head out to Paula's place to pick her up.

<April 13th, Friday, 10:30 AM>

"So, why this place?" Paula asks as she enters the side door, "Is it really good to train at this place at this hour?"

"Yeah, believe it or not," you answer back, and the looking at a new message on your phone, "picked it because of all of the good parkour areas. No one will suspect a thing with us training on those things."

The text is from Dante, mentioning he'll pick up Carol since he's in the area.

"And I think Dante just saved me a little bit of gas," you say relieved as you place the phone back in cupholder, "hey...you don't think he and Carol..."

Paula gives you a look and says, "He's as old as you, do you really think he's gonna be messing around with a high schooler?"

<April 13th, Friday 11:00 AM>

You arrive to the destination in the specified time. Overlooking a wide hilltop, stands Georgetown, and at a nice little coffee shop you find Dante and Carol having a small chat together. They take notice of you and start grabbing their bags.

"Yo, you guys ready?" he asks the two of you, as Carol moves closer, "What are we training today?"

<April 13th, Friday 11:10 AM>

Dante leads your group to the rooftops of Georgetown, and takes a few flags from his bag.

"I'll be right back," he says before he jumps to an adjacent rooftop.

Carol, Paula and yourself look at how easily he maneuvers with his suit's enhanced abilities above the road line of Georgetown. He stops only to place a flag at each roof access point.

"He's marking out a route," Carol says, as Dante begins to make his way back, "He mentioned we were going to do laps around the town to get us acquainted with the suits."

Dante's back in a few minutes, but he looks a little winded from the ordeal.

"I laid them out in a circular pattern around the rooftops," he motions to the route with the flags, "retrieve them, bring them back, and tag in the next person. They're weighted so, it gets progressively harder as you pick them up."

You all nod, and Paula is the first to try it out. Her movements with the suit are almost as fluid as Dante's, as she weaves through the course with relative ease. She slows down at the last flag, but makes it with not too much trouble.

"12 min," notes Dante in his stopwatch app, "Impressive, but I expected as much from a cop. Now, give him the flags so he can put them out, same workout, just in reverse."

"Your go tough guy," Paula says as she goes to get a bottle of water from her dufflebag.

You stand firmly on the edge, and take a running leap with several of the flags in tow. Your body does feel heavier, like about 30 pounds heavier, but your suit's strength and your persistence see you through the first few jumps. You almost slip at the very last one, but you make it back to rooftop nonetheless.

"14 min," notes Dante, looking at you panting on the ground, "take some water, you did good man."

Dante nods at Carol, and she takes a few steps back and takes a running start towards the first flag. You only notice a few moments of it, between water sips but Carol is fairly fast for her age. She's having a bit of trouble controlling the suit with all of the weight on hand, but she makes it back eventually.

"16," notes Dante, giving Carol a pat on the back, "keep working on it, but you're getting there."

<April 13th, Friday 1:00 PM>

After you guys clear the roof, and head back down to ground level Dante gives you all a few tips on how to improve your suit's capabilities in tight situations.

"They key is emotional control," he says as you head back to your cars, "If you lose it, the suit will act with it but only for so long. I never saw it myself, but there's a point where these things start messing with your mind."

You all take the advice to heart, and depart home.

Paula's looking out to DC, with a strange look on her face as make your way back.

"Paula," you nudge her on the shoulder a little, "What's up? You ok there?"

Paula quickly turns to look at you with a slight jump in her body. You notice that she has a slight frown on her face before she completely faces you.

"Oh, I-I was just thinking about Gantz," she says somewhat nervously, but genuinely enough, "Why the aliens? Sure, they don't too much like aliens...but how does no one just notice them?"

"I'd imagine it probably has something to do with Gantz itself," you speculate, keeping your eyes on the road, "probably the same reason the police didn't find the bodies or...anything really."

This only brings more questions to your head about what Gantz is and why it's here. Questions that you know don't have a definite answer, even to people that already know about Gantz.

"Do you think it's doing it just for fun?", she asks with a slight chuckle, "Like, it puts the aliens there and it has us kill them, while whatever the Gantz is just shits itself with laughter as we die?"

The thought had struck you a bit, but it's gone from your mind as you don't hear Paula's laugh anymore.

"Whatever it is," you begin, caressing her check a little, "it's the card we were dealt, gotta just roll with it for now..."

<April 13th, Friday 2:00 PM>

After dropping off Paula back at her place, you decide to take the short way home. You figure that you can eat lunch over at work, so you head over without too much haste.

<April 13th, Friday 3:00 PM>

You arrive to find that there's still a few people out sick from the pollen it seems. Ryan doesn't ask you to pull a double shift this time, as you're already running on extra hours for your week. Either way, for the next hour or so, it's going to be difficult nonetheless.

<April 13th, Friday 9:30 PM>

Understaffed, and undermanned, you finish today with expedient work ethic. Customer service might as well have 3 more people with you around. You finish up the work day in efficient fashion, and close before the last of the shoppers can come in for their 10:00 PM goodies.

Ryan actually pulls you over to give you a handshake, that's probably a first time he's done that since you got here. It's strange that you managed to work this efficiently in the last few days considering it has been surprisingly hectic given the whole alien hunters thing.

Maybe it's Paula or Gantz or something that's propelling you to go further beyond your normal bounds of effort here. Either way, you head on home with a slight more spry in your step.

<April 13th, Friday, 10:00 PM>

Once again, you plop yourself down on your bed after the shift. Thankfully you don't have a shift tomorrow. Not so thankfully, you don't think you have the energy or patience to do much less than sleep now.

You look at your phone, and the time. Maybe, the others are available tomorrow for training?

'You guys want to meet for training tomorrow? Short notice I know, but the week's almost over and I feel we need to check out one last locale.'

You also text them the address to the training site. You don't wait for them to reply back, as you drift off to sleep seconds after doing so.

<April 14th, Saturday 8:00 AM>

You managed to sleep well last night in spite of your outing with the phone. Speaking of which, you pick up off the side of your bed to find that it has three new messages, two of which arrived last night and one arrived not 10 minutes ago.

They all read sure, and in genuine convenience, they all list similar timings for the afternoon.

'Well meet up at Diamond Auto Parts at 5:00 PM. Get some rest, as Carol tells me it might be a bit dangerous there.'

You don't wait for their replies as you get out of bed and head to the shower. Now, what to do before 5 PM?

<April 14th, Saturday 11:00 AM>

You decide to head out on a run again. This time, you feel your muscles begin to adapt more to your pace now. Given that you were running through several rooftops not a day ago, perhaps your body is starting to get more physically fit.

'That's not possible you think,' as you round about back home, 'One doesn't get fit from just 3 days of pure exercise...'

As you go to cross the intersection curb, you try to sped up your pace to beat the traffic light but crash into something out of your line of sight. It's another runner, a white girl probably Carol's age.

"Oww...", she's sitting there rubbing her head, and you offer hand, "Thanks man, but watch where you're going next time, I could have been a cyclist."

"Yeah, sorry about that," you say, as she dusts herself off, "but you should follow your own advice as well, you're still on sharp curb you know."

She starts trotting in place before she heads off running, saying as she runs off, "Name's Allie mister, and I'll keep it mind!"

That wasn't something expected, but you at least confirmed that at least you're making progress in your step if another runner has that sort of meeting with you. Maybe it has something to do with the suit, but for whatever reason this whole rule is feeling much easier as you head back. Once back, you head to your shower again and plan out your next move until 5 PM.

'Hey Dante, you play video games?'

You shoot Dante a message that hopefully gets replied with a 'yes'. Otherwise this might be a very lonely few hours.

'Hell yeah man, you into fighting games? I got the new Street Fighter, want me to come over?'

You'd only kept up with the street fighter games until last edition of SF4, but you never really gave the new one a chance. Maybe it was because Capcom released the game basically incomplete, and it took them until now to get it patched up. Or so the angry forums you used to post on kept yelling about.

You give Dante the go-ahead to hang out at your place, and you order some pizza. Meatlovers, since you figure Dante is probably a man of class like you.

<April 14th, Saturday 11:30 AM>

You hear a knock on the door, and chide the pizza man for getting it to you on time.

'Another minute and it would have been free.'

You hear another knock on the door, and find that Dante has not only brought a fighting stick, but also a PS4 Pro set up with an extra controller and stick for you.

"Don't worry," he says and he starts setting it up in with your laptop, "This is Chris's old one, he basically gave it to me since dad bought him the Pro last week."

In spite of playing it on a smaller than usual screen, Dante manages to adjust the settings to better display the game's graphics at a reasonable size. You grab stick and sit down next to him on the bed.

"Alright boy," he looks at you with determined eyes, "You ready?"

+1/2 Trust (Dante)

<April 14th, Saturday 3:00 PM>

Though you get pummeled initially by Dante's terrifying Ryu and Ken plays, you manage to get the hang of the game long enough to start eking out wins with your boy Balrog.

You always preferred a solid offense in these sort of games, with you maining Cammy and Sakura in the previous entry. Dante is no slouch either, as he is able to counter and predict so many of your fast wake ups and forward cancels.

At the end of it all, the score remains a solid 10 wins for Dante and 5 for you. He takes a hearty laugh and gives you pat on the back as he takes the last pizza slice.

"Don't feel too bad man," he says, "You're not bad yourself, but I've been doing the fighting game thing since the 90s back where the used to be arcades around here."

"Yeah, laugh it man," you reply back, a slight chuckle interjecting itself, "Let's see you try to make it at EVO."

"EVO?" he says, laughing a little until he gives you his phone, "I've been there bro, and I got into preliminaries back in 2011."

The photo shows him standing among so many other cheering fans of a large stage show. Right beyond the camera's lights, you see EVO 2011 stamped on a large stadium.

"Anyways, this was fun," he says, picking up the rest of his games, "We going to pick up the girls now? 5 PM isn't that far."

"Yeah, I think so," You say, as you help him get his gear back in his sack, "Go ahead and pick up Carol, and I'll take Paula."

You both nod in agreement. Dante heads to his car and you get your gear.

<April 14th, Saturday 5:00 PM>

You're all standing at the side fence of the Diamond Autoparts Junkyard. Carol informed you that there is slight breach where it's simple to slip through and you all manage to crawl under it.

"Alright guys," Dante speaks to you all, as you make your way past the car stacks, "This may be the last training we get before the next hunt. Make it count."

You all round about to a central cross where several stacks of scrapped cars stand poised like statues. This place isn't the safest, but you're sure to get the best out of your training here.

<April 14th, Saturday 5:00 PM>

You all group up in the center of the yard according to Dante's orders. You are all facing four separate directions and huddling at least 3 feet apart from each other to make up for the spacing.

"Here's a tactic my old group used to run," he says and motions you all to follow him, "they called it the tortoise. A group of people face separate directions from the others, move in unison, and make themselves unflankeable."

It sounds foolproof enough, as it makes up for all of your lines of sight. While Paula and yourself are getting the motion correct, Carol seems to step out of the group a little too much at times. Dante motions her to move at a faster pace, and attempts it.

This unfortunately causes her to bump into Paula. She braces herself against one of the car stacks to keep from falling, yet uses too much force and actually shakes part of the stack.

There's a slight grind of metal, as one of the topmost cars in the stack begin to tilt towards you guys. Dante is on Carol in seconds to get her out of the way, but the car is still coming for Paula who's still trying to get up from her brace against the stack.

Maneuver Unlock: Lunging Save - (Erick can prevent harm coming to a teammate within his immediate reach, but can only prevent it once per hunt)

There's a speed and force in your step as your body moves forward to get Paula out of the way of the falling scrap. You reach out to her and swat her towards the ground away from the falling car. Now however, you're right below it and it's coming down fast.

Tensing up your muscles, you activate the suit's power and reach to brace the car's frame as it falls onto you. There's a sketch in metal as the car's frame twists slightly in your arms, but you manage to hold it for about 2 seconds before another car falls right on top. Your legs almost give out from the sheer force of impact.

Then, the cars become lighter and your legs along with them. You look around you and see that Paula is now helping you push the cars' frame out of the way. With your combined strength, you both throw the cars into the dirt, knocking up a cloud of dust as it passes onto it.

You each breathe a sigh of relief while Carol and Dante are staring quite surprised at your feat of strength. Paula and yourself exchange a glance, and then a hug before continuing on with the exercise.

<April 14th, Saturday 9:00 PM>

After the team exercises finish, Dante makes a point of speaking to you guys and leads you out of the junkyard.

"Stay tuned for a loud ringing in your ears this coming week," he says, as you guys head for your cars, "It's Gantz's signal for the next hunt to begin. So, if you don't have your suit or a weapon, drop everything and find one because Gantz won't wait for you."

There's a lull of silence in your friends, as it seems they are all thinking the same thing. Next week, it will happen again.

The hunt, the aliens, and the bloodshed.

You all head back to your cars, and you drive Paula home.

<April 14th, Saturday 10:00 PM>

Head to your bed to rest up for tomorrow, as you're scheduled for a morning shift. It seems that even in spite of going through near death experiences in and out of the hunt, the world still doesn't stop. Though, you're mature enough to not complain about it at least.

<April 14th, Saturday 10:00 PM>

You send everyone a text to meet you at Roosevelt Island, tomorrow for some last minute training. You feel your phone ring as Paula messages back.

'Sure, but let's do it a little earlier in the evening this time. I want to get to bed early because I have to head down to the station on Monday to get my probation lifted.'

You smile at her attentiveness and then fall asleep.

<April 15th, Sunday 7:00 AM>

You check the weather today after getting up, deciding that maybe it's best to bring an umbrella this time around since it calls for showers throughout the day.

Either way, you know that after today, it'll only be a matter of time before you have to stare down death once again. Your mind jumps at the many horrifying shapes it will take today. But you don't pay it much attention as you serve yourself breakfast before going to work.

<April 15th, Sunday 7:30 AM>

As you make your way to WalMart, you receive several texts telling you that Paula must have texted the others her time frame for this training session.

'I'll make it Erick don't worry.', messaged Carol, right above Dante, 'Yeah, I was thinking we could use some target practice before next week.'

You close your phone and drive the rest of the way there.

<April 15th, Sunday 8:00 AM>

It seems that the pollen's died down, or your coworkers finally decided to stop playing hooky. Maybe it has something to do with the rain, probably weighing down the exposure to the pollen. Either way, the rain is bringing in a few less customers than usual, so this might be an easy shift.

<April 15th, Sunday 4:30 PM>

You start heading back home after a simple day at work. Ryan's attitude seems to have gone back to normal, probably to yell at your co-workers not coming in for long. Never heard the word slacker said so many times in one day. Either way, it's nothing to pay attention to as you head back home,

You round up the steps to your apartment, you see a strange note taped on the door of your apartment. You see stamped on it a seal from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

You take the note inside, with a panicked state.

<April 15th, Sunday 5:30 PM>

The paper itself is pristine, and of a harder glossier form of paper that is without a crease or bump. You don't so much as scan it over, but look through it thoroughly for the next hour.

There's a thing about the FBI in that they are very thorough when detailing their search warrants. The note details a few hundred lines of legal jargon about the allegations raised against you, but you boil it down to a break in attempt at police database.

It's a strange thing to just mail to someone, yet the funniest thing about it is that they require your consent to actually search you. Whatever hornet's nest you've kicked, it was probably because your attempt to access those restricted files with the encryption key.

Your phone's ring actually makes you jump out of your focused state. It's a message from Paula.

'We're still good for training right? When are you getting here?'

You had almost completely forgotten about the training session today with that doom ticket attached to your door. You grab your things and rush for Paula's house.

<April 15th, Sunday 6:00 PM>

"Don't sign anything, don't send anything, don't even speak near it," Paula says as she's pacing through her contacts, "I don't know what you just stumbled into, but there's gotta be someone in the force that can help us here."

"I wasn't even trying to hack in," you weakly reply, as you approach Roosevelt Island, "It just found the files in the database, and it requested an access code I didn't have."

"I didn't know it was gonna send a fucking signal to the FBI if an attempt was made."

"Calm down ok," she says, as she frantically continues looking through her contacts, "it's not gonna make this any easier."

You both get off the car, get your gear and head to the central part of the island were Dante and Carol are waiting for you. They notice you both looking a little tense.

"Hey, you guys OK there?", Carol points out before making her way to you.

"Alright, listen," you begin, moving towards Dante, "this is very important so tell no one ab-"

You start to say, before a strange ringing in your ears begins to thrum through it. All eyes turn to Dante after the ringing finally stops.

"You said it was gonna be in one week!," Paula yells at Dante, "What gives here?"

"It's never done this!," Dante manages to say, "I swear it always gives us one week before the next hunt."

You look at Dante, and he's got a pleading look in his eyes. You let out a long sigh, and just walk towards Paula, putting a hand on her shoulder.

"Well, at least we're prepared for it this time," you interject calmly, with Paula losing her edge, "Would've sucked if it caught us on the john right?"

There's a slight chuckle from Carol, which evolves as everyone starts laughing at your comment. That laughter however stops, once a light from the heaves descends on Dante, and begins to teleport him away, slab by slab. You hear a thunder clap beyond the water's edge, and see a few black clouds moving towards the city.

'Here we go again.'

That's it for the session guys. Sorry for the abrupt end, but I figured it seemed in the spirit of Gantz to get you something a little unexpected.

I will try to run next week, as I have a con I am going to but may be back around nighttime. If I do run next week, it will most likely be after 5 PM EST probably after Wednesday.

Check up on my twitter for updates, scheduling changes and other goodies I will post there as well as an updated ruleset for the game.

For now though, have a good evening guys.
