You are Allen Starwind, a starship captain and veteran of the Great Interstellar War. Your starship is old, yet (mostly) reliable, and you must take on jobs in order to bring in enough cash to keep it flying. You are still in a flashback to your service during the War. Last time, you engaged the enemy, stopped the target ship from retreating, and landed so your mysterious new co-pilot could finish the job. Good luck, and fair skies.

“What makes you think the target survived the crash?” You raise an eyebrow at Patton as she stops in her tracks, glancing back toward you. “I mean, look at what happened. We smoked that freighter. I find it hard to believe anyone survived.”

She grimaces. “You’d be surprised what people can survive, Lieutenant… I’ll be back soon.” With that, she jogs off toward the still-burning wreck.

You sigh, looking around the wreck site. The explosion and subsequent crash really tore up this landscape. The dirt you stand on still feels hot through your boots. You hear thunder in the distance.

Some lightning arcs across the sky, showing the silhouette of Bragg’s craft flying in a lazy circle above you. Part of you wonders if he has anything to say about all of this… Another part of you wonders what will happen to Guerra. You haven’t seen anything of him since he bugged out earlier.

Glancing back at your craft, you see that your radio cable is hanging a little over the lip of the cockpit. You could plug your helmet into it, but that would mean climbing back into the craft to get your helmet, and you’re sure the cord won’t reach outside very far, so you’d have to sit in the cockpit. And Patton seemed adamant about you standing guard outside of it. You swear to yourself as a large droplet of rain hits your forehead, followed by a light downpour. More thunder rumbles through the air.

>Screw it. You’ll sit in the cockpit. You don’t feel like getting rained on for no reason.
>Patton must’ve had a good reason for asking you to stand guard outside. You’ll stay out in the rain until she gets back.
>Write-in.

My apologies, guys. Computer issues have been plaguing me for the last couple days. Looks like I should have it all sorted out by midnight Eastern Time. I'll run a late session sometime around then.

So I got roped into staying a couple hours over at work, and have just gotten home. I'm going to have to postpone the session until at least tomorrow, possibly Saturday depending on scheduling.

Patton wouldn’t have asked you to wait outside unless she had a good reason. You grumble to yourself, but despite the rain, you wait outside. Through some of the wreck’s portholes, you see the bright flashing of gunfire. It’s too far away to hear anything, but you can only hope that the young spook knows what she’s doing.

The rain eventually stops, leaving a low-hanging mist all around. You scan the craters and horizon for any movement, keeping your thumb over the safety of your weapon in case any Imperials try to run up on you.

It isn’t long before you hear footsteps approaching. Raising the machine pistol, you sigh upon seeing a familiar silhouette. Patton approaches, and your stomach turns as you see her step into the light. She’s wide-eyed and covered in blood, clutching the assault rifle in one hand and a few sets of Imperial dog tags in the other. Her assault vest is dented in places. It is covered, no, drenched in blood, as is her flight suit. You see that the bolt of her rifle is locked back, and the eight or so mag pouches on her vest are empty. You can smell the warm gunpowder residue from here.

You grimace as she steps forward, eyes glazed over. “Lieutenant…” She looks straight ahead, past you. “Get the craft ready for takeoff, please.”

>”Jesus, Patton. What happened in there?”
>”You’re bleeding. Let me get a med-kit first.”
>Get the craft ready. You’re not messing with someone in this state.
>Write-in.

If she dies on our watch someone might be pissed.
Also WTF!

Ask if she’s got wound that can’t wait a few minutes it will take to move out.
Help her get in the craft.

She needs medical attention, but presumably moving out is even higher priority.

You grimace, putting a hand on the removable panel with a first-aid symbol on it. “Hold up, you’re bleeding. Let’s get you patched up before we do anything else.” You pop the first-aid canister open, grabbing the painkillers, alcohol, and gauze. Patton just stands there, dazed, as you approach her. She flinches as you put a hand on her shoulder lightly. “Patton, let me take a look at your wounds.”

This seems to shake her from her stupor, if only a little bit. She blinks, dropping the rifle and pocketing the dog tags. “My shoulder…” She nods her head to the right and you see a bullet hole in the flight suit, right next to the shoulder strap of her vest.

“Right…” You frown, tearing some of the fabric away. She winces, but merely nods for you to continue. You get a better look at the wound, seeing that it went clean through just above her collarbone. “Take these. It’ll numb the pain a little.” You hand her the fast-acting painkillers and she takes them without hesitation. Next, you pour the rubbing alcohol on the entry and exit wounds. As the blood washes away, you see that it must’ve been a small caliber on account of the lack of tissue damage. You then apply the gauze to both sides of the wound, wrapping it together under and over her arm to keep pressure on it. “Where else do I need to patch you up?”

She looks toward you, or rather somewhere over your shoulder. She’s still dazed by the looks of it. “That’s all…” She then gestures to the blood covering her. “This… This isn’t mine…” She steps back, muttering something under her breath as she shakily picks her rifle up again. “Let’s just go, please…” She looks right at you. As you both make eye-contact, there is a massive explosion somewhere inside the wreck. It tears through the ship’s hull, sending a fiery cloud into the night sky. The shockwave nearly knocks you down as hot wind batters you, sending tiny bits of shrapnel across the field.

You help her into the co-pilot’s seat, then climb into the cockpit and prepare for takeoff. It isn’t long before you are in the air and headed back to base, with Bragg flying alongside you. Aside from the orders to return to base, there have been no words spoken since you took off.

>Ask Patton what happened down there.
>Ask Bragg about Guerra. He panicked and ran, normally grounds for a court-marital.
>Remain silent.
>Write-in.

Don't push too hard, but to get her to talk a little at least.

Also, we're on page 10.

Yeah. Next story post will be in a new thread, likely tomorrow. Work has blindsided me recently so I haven't had as much free time to run as I would've liked.
