You are Ushi Walker, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A High first year student, Musutafu's next speed demon and a really busy gal.

Texting with Momo, you are to go study with her at her home, and she said she wouldn't mind if you invited someone else.

You could invite someone else, yes…
Shoto would appreciate not being home, you think.
But he was with you and your pals yesterday and he'd probably could use some time alone.

So you decide against it, striding out of the house for a day of fun with one of the three people you owe your life to, and the one who got the worst out of it.

You only take a couple of steps before turning 540 degrees and opening the front door once more.

>"Huh?.. Did you forget something, hun?" Momma asks from the couch, raising her head.

It's always odd seeing her hang her legs off the edge of the couch.
She doesn't look as big when you take her hocks out of the picture… Still, mighty tall.

"'yuup." You answer, dropping your bag by the door and sprinting at her, hugging her tight. "I love you."

Considering you almost could grab your wrists, it was pretty damn tight.

>"Well, I love you too… But where did that come from? Am I dying or something?" She asks, staying still for a second before returning the hug, squeezing the air out of your lungs like a toy, squee and all.

Like always, she lets you go the moment you let her go.

"N-Gasp!- No! Don't say that kinda thing." You tell her, playfully pulling on her ear. Fuzzy and soft. "You are already tempting fate with that dang haircut."

>"...But I like it! You used to love it! It's simple, non threatening and unlike yours, shows a teensy bit of effort." She says banters back, flicking the bang on your forehead. "Now hurry along, don't leave Yaoyorozu waiting!.. But...Um… Could you put the kettle on before you leave?"

You nod and take a quick detour for the kitchen, to fill the kettle with fresh water before putting in on the stove and turning it on.

Back to the front door, you throw your backpack over your shoulders and place your hands on your hips.

"There! Now rest, you look like you didn't sleep at all." You tell her before heading out, for real this time.

Stepping outside, you whip out your phone and look up Momo's address...

It's really fucking far away, a whole prefecture away from Musutafu.
In a way, it says something about how good U.A. must be to spend nearly three hours each day going from and back at home.

Or maybe the full blooded japanese have a greater resistance to being canned for hours than you have. It's unnerving.

Still, it's something you have to get used to, after all, commuting is part of daily life in this parts.

So to Aichi you go, charting your course in your phone and hopping from train to train, starting to feel the sting of public transportation costs as you slide your train pass time and time again.

At least, it was further south than you had ever been, showing you new vistas to distract you on the way to Momo's home.

The last leg of your journey, however, you travel on your own two feet.
You wouldn't want to get lost so close to her address, especially with every numbered gate getting further and further away from each other, as the houses give way to mansions.

Finally, after a long but pleasant walk under the spring sun you find your class president's home.

You have never been wanting, nor have your family ever been in any big or important economic trouble, but the sheer size of the manor in front of you makes you feel poor,

There's something odd though, you notice instantly. It takes you a couple of minutes to realize what exactly it is though.

Unlike Shoto's home, a classic but vast Japanese style mansion that looks like the set piece from a pre Meiji restoration themed film, Momo's looks…

Kind of British, actually

It's not bad, but it makes you double check the address before actually ringing the doorbell button on the intercom next to the gate.

Then you notice the big iron plate above it with her family name inscribed in mid-relief.

>"Good morning, would you mind saying who you are and what are you here for?" A woman's voice asks you through the intercom.

You were expecting being… Expected.

"Walker Ushi, ma'am. I came to study with Momo." You comply, feeling a bit silly talking at nothing.

>"Oh. Yes, we were expecting you, please come in." The woman says.

With a loud buzz, the great iron gate opens for you.

You have to admit that Momo's garden looks and smells great. You would have even tried some of them if it weren't rude to do so.

Momo and a woman with waist long hair stand side to side behind the open front door.

>"Walker, uh? I've heard quite a bit about you." The woman says, staring straight into your soul before smiling wide. "Call it a hunch, but I feel your generation's top ten hero listing will be way more gender equal. Now come in, don't just stand on the doorway."

"Uh… Sure!" You answer, stepping inside.

Even in the genkan, the simple entryway to leave your shoes and hats on, dark and red woods seem to be major parts of the decor, giving it a sense of wealth and warmth you hadn't felt in any one building on this country before. It feels like there should be a fireplace in every room, even there.

>"Momo? Aren't you forgetting something?" The woman says after you enter, closing the door behind you.

>"Oh, right." Momo says, shaking her head for a second.

She then bows and signals to the woman that opened the door.

>"Walker, allow me to introduce you to my mother, Yaoyorozu Kado." She continues, raising back to her full height.

"Howdy, Mrs. Yaoyorozu." You say, bowing a bit yourself. You didn't pay much attention to what little etiquette momma tried to teach you, but bowing seemed to be always either the appropriate response or an acceptable one. "Nice to meetcha."

>"...Likewise, Miss Walker." The woman replies, returning the bow.

Looking at her now, the family resemblance is rather obvious. Same eye shape and color, along with the exact same skin tone.

>"Excuse the state of the manor, but most of the live in staff goes home during the weekends." Mrs. Yaoyorozu explains, forcing you to squint at the getabako to see the almost invisible layer of dust over it.

"Woah." You let out in awe, taking off your boots and hat and leaving them in their appropriate places. You know you can argue you can wear a hat inside, but it feels wrong in this place.

>"Woe indeed, but they are people too, so what can we do?" Momo's Mom says, stepping off the genkan and into the hall. "Thankfully, some of the kitchen staff does stay, so don't worry about lunch, Or dinner, if you plan to accompany Momo through her entire study session."

...It's noon.

Just for how long does Momo study?

>"Anyway, I should leave you two to your studies. I wouldn't want to be a bother." She continues. "Just make sure to say goodbye before you leave."

With that, she walks away, disappearing into the hallway.

"...Do you really study from noon to sundown? On Sundays?" You ask Momo.

>"It's not usual, but I have to today." She explains, walking down the hallway herself. "Come with me."

"You have to? Why is that?" You ask as you follow her, wanting to know but feeling rather dumb for asking.

>"I have a rather strict schedule to keep to, and it includes a certain amount of hours I have to spend studying each week. Since I didn't study at all yesterday, for obvious reasons, I have to catch up today." She explains, guiding you through the maze of identical looking doors and windows.

Like the front of the mansion, the backyard is beautiful as well, complimented by the beautiful day outside…

Hang on.

"Is that a stable?" You ask your host, keeping your face glued to the glass and trying to distinguish more detail in the distant structure.

Sure, it looks more ornate, but the structure and the hay bales nearby make you think it is a stable in use.

It'd also explain why it is so far away from the mansion itself.

Even if clean it daily, and keep the horses clean, stables end up smelling like manure.

>"Uh? Oh, yes. We don't own many horses though, as no matter how much Mother likes horses, she only enjoys a couple rides each week." She explains, stopping briefly by your side. "Thus, more than four mares made no sense."

Four? The closest thing to a horse you had seen since coming to Japan came to your birthday party with a cake she baked herself!

"And you know how to ride?" You ask, unlatching yourself from the window and falling back in line with her.

>"My etiquette training included equitation, yes." She answers without much interest.

"Isn't it the best?" You state excitedly. It may have sounded like a question, but the only real answer is "Yes."

>"Horseback walks are quite relaxing, but I don't see much of a point in them. For recreational purposes, I prefer trekking on my own two legs." Momo says, guiding you to a large room with a much clearer decor, and a large dining table that could easily sit twelve, with nothing but books, notebooks, a pencil case and a glasses case over it. "We'll be studying here. The lighting is perfect all day long."

With three windows on one wall and six lamps on every one of them, you can see why.

"If walking is not enough, try running! Nothing beats a nice gallop. The speed, the wind in your hair, the feel of the horse between your chaps…" You tell her, letting the idea drag as you wait for her to pick a seat, sitting next to her.

>"I guess that could be fun…" She gives in with a small smile, picking up the glasses case and putting a pair of reading glasses on.

This way, she looks more like a teacher than a student.

"'yuup." You finish, picking up your own supplies and spreading them over the table.

>"Well… Be that as it may, we have work to do." She says, biting off the cap of a highlighter and opening her literature notebook. "If I clock some extra hours today, I should have more time to hang out during the week!"

You nod and follow suit, officially starting the study session, with the back and forth comments on the subject keeping you on track.

...But it is studying for over ten hours what you really want to do this sunday?

Yeah, also remember to take breaks and whatnot. Maybe ask her if she wants to out for some fun some time in the future. See if she wants to have a girls day out to just relax.

Take a break to talk about quirk combo moves.

We could basically make a small house with no problem. (Hint hint)

Besides, taking a break from studying to plan/train is still industrious/productive.

Heck. We've already gone and promised to train with Shoto so he doesn't do it alone. Least we could do is make sure that Momo doesn't have to study alone, for today at least.

Momo is right, doing this now means more time in the future for her to do whatever she wants.

...Maybe even hang out with you?

Even if she doesn't plan to spend anymore time with you, you decide to put some elbow grease into it and give it your all. Your only distraction is sending a quick text to Momma, telling her that you'll be out for a while.

There's not much to catch up to though, as you make short work of the notes on both of your notebooks, taking less than an hour before you can discuss the subjects without them and move to the things you have yet to see, starting with history.

"You know? I'm really happy with the generation I was born in." You comment, slamming shut your history textbook. "The first two had it rough…"

>"The existence of mutant communities does feel a lot more sinister after that last chapter." Momo affirms, taking off her glasses and placing them on the table. "The end of it all it's one of the few good things of the societal collapse, I'd say."

Getting ahead of the classes, you hit a bit of a sore spot for you in relatively recent history, not that you hadn't ever seen it, but it's from Japan's perspective this time.

The Great Collapse and the debate of what it meant to be Human.

A dark period ruled by powerful warlords starting a little after the second decade after the advent of quirks and only truly ending a decade ago, with All Might as a shining beacon of peace and justice lighting the way.

While not covered in great detail, using "eclipsing the horrors of the second World War" as a descriptor in a school textbook is pretty self explanatory, and something you know the japanese wouldn't write lightly.

"The communities or the discrimination? I've heard from my family in the north that one is still pretty common and the other I can tell you myself that it's still around." You tell her, thinking back to your uncle and looking away.

You care little for money, but you have to admit to a slight bit of envy.
She's as human as you've ever known, not a single odd trait as far as your eyes can see.

You wonder if the japanese-americans of old felt the same way about the bombs as you feel now, seeing that you can trace your ancestry to the mutant groups that escaped Honshu and isolated themselves in other islands of the japanese archipelago. Hokkaido, in your bloodline's case.

The book used the still allowed commerce of mutant-produced wool as an example of concessions made during the transition back to a strong unified government, but you count your blessings, it all came to be regulated.

>"...Let's move on!" Momo suddenly says, snapping you out of it. "How about some tea as we move on to english?"

"Anything but green, please." You answer. "Sorry about that."

>"Don't worry about it… When you only ever see one homeless person a month, the fact that there's a world outside this manor slips your mind at times." She explains herself, picking up a thermo from a nearby cart and a couple of teacups and saucers.

She brings it all to the table and goes back to the cart, returning a second time with a wooden box.

You wait for her to open it out of courtesy, as you can already smell the selection of teas inside it.

As you expected, but hoped it wouldn't be, Momo falls for the temptations of green tea.

You take a bag of scented Earl Grey and dip it in your cup.

"...Are we taking a break now?" You ask, dropping two sugarcubes into the tea and stirring it with what you are sure is a silver spoon. "Do we have the time?"

>"Ushi, there's always time for a tea cup." She tells you, reaching at nothing for a second before pouring hot water in her cup. "<And I consider discussion in the subjects another form of studying… Or I would If I'd ever had someone that could keep up.>"

"<I'm on top of my game today, but english, right now? Break, discussion and english practice at once? You are running outta birds for your stone… Oh. in the subject. I get it.>" You ask her, a fair bit impressed with the softness of her accent. "<Very well! Let's chat!>"

>"<Uhm… I actually hoped you would put forth a theme. What has happened during last week notwithstanding, the most interesting thing in my mind right now is the cyan homeless man I saw yesterday on my way home. You don't see many of those around here.>"

>What do you want to talk about?

There is so much we could do. Too much, really. Anything she wants can be made in miniature and we could scale it to normal/gigantic size. Or just increase her size. She could make spy equipment and we could scale it down. Food and water is a non-issue, basically. The possibilities are endless.

Are you guys really going to wait around to start doing good? Or are you going to show up most of the professional heroes by taking some initiative?

If we make a big splash by completing a housing project we'll have guarantee options for internships, and we'll have our pick of the litter if we do well in the sports festival too.

Which means we'd be able to train with edgeshot to learn speed and stealth or with any of the top heroes.

Plus, if Momo can leverage some hype she might not have to do that shitty internship with Uwabami selling shampoo...

I highly recommend more people vote for combo-ing up for a housing project.

If we go to the support classes for engineering help we'll probably get to meet Mei...

It's literally illegal to use your quirk without a hero license. The only way to get noticed by Heros is to do well in school and the school comp.

So unless you're okay with Ushi going out and picking up rubbish the boring normal way than we won't be doing any extracurricular crap like you seem to be suggesting.
>>
>>2340550
The idea is to either:
(A) Create a plan we can enact immediately on getting our licence.

or

(B) Get permission to use our quirks with supervision as part of a self-guided learning project.

I mean, we use our quirk all the time during training, and it's not illegal to use your quirk in the privacy of your own home. There are clearly plenty of exceptions, some of which we can clearly already use without any further applying to anything.

"<Really? Nothing interesting at all?>" You say, taking a sip of your still scalding tea cup. "<I find that hard to believe.">

>"<Believe it or not, it's true.>" Momo answers, taking a second to blow lightly at her own cup. "<Studying for school and my own quirk training have been my most pressing concerns for years, and while both have served me well, they don't extrapolate as good conversation material.>"

"<...I reckon that's true. But you must do something else! I just don't believe that's all you do.>" You say, maybe acting more dramatically than the situation warrants. <"No music? Hobbies?.."

>"<I enjoy western music, Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi, to name a few. Pleasant to the ear, soothing to the soul and sharpening the mind, not many reach the quality of the old masters.>" Momo… exposits, taking a sip of her green tea and sighing. "<As far as hobbies go, I'm guilty of skipping the curriculums and striking out on my own. Not unlike what we are doing, I like a good nonfiction book.>

You just blink, silently adjusting the tilt of your head and think.

It's not a surprise, the gap between the two of you. You only have to look around to see some clear differences in upbringing, the part that surprises you is how wide it is.

Yet, somehow, she came to your birthday party and is taking an informal tea break with you in her own home.

"<...Boys?>" You ask, adding to your earlier question. "<Has any cute boy caught your fine eye?>"

Your host looks at you perplexed for a fraction of a second before leaving her cup on its saucer and covering her mouth, letting out a quaint laugh.

>"<Ushi, we don't have time for that.>" She tells you, waving you off. "<The kind of planning and care I imagine a successful courtship and a fulfilling romance would take are just above what we can spare.>"

In a way, she's completely right.

She's avoiding the question.

"<True as that might be...>" You start, tilting your cup, tracing its brim with your finger and looking at your friend while raising an eyebrow . "<Nothing stops us from window shopping does it? Or imagining how'd it go.>"

If her previous evasive wasn't enough, you

>"<...That doesn't make it any less of a pointless endeavour.>" She deflects once more, trying to hide her blushin face behind her cup.

"<But you've done it too." You ask her, raising your cup and drinking it all in one go, enjoying the almost burning feeling of the tea pouring down your throat. Luckily, you stop yourself from slamming the cup against the saucer."<That's all personal and all that… But I'm nosy, so tell me!>"

She looks around and stands up, carefully walking towards the door and peeking out.
After making sure that you were thoroughly confused, she closes it, locks it and returns to the table.

"<...Was that in any way necessary?>" You ask her, rather shocked at the display of distrust.

>"<I'm not sure, but it's better to be safe than sorry.>" She says, taking her seat. "<It's pretty personal, so I'd like it to not get out of this room.>"

"<Won't be by me.>" You assure her, mimicking closing a zipper over your mouth. Pinky promises are for far more serious matters.

>"<Well… I don't have a crush.>" She answers, looking a tad abashed. "<Pretty boring, isn't it? But I've given matchmaking some thought… Matters of the heart notwithstanding, I've pictured futures with both Iida and Todoroki. Beyond how… Pleasing to the eyes they can be, either of their families' legacies would blend well with mine.>"

"<Welp, that's just worthless.>" You say shrugging.

>"<Whatever do you mean? You asked about it all!>" Momo says, her temper flaring slightly.

"<Well, yeah. I wanted to know about what you like, not family politics." You explain yourself, trying to placate her with your calmest smile. <"Not even in your imagination should a loveless relationship exist.">

You wait for her to stop glaring at you and sip her tea before speaking again.

"<Good picks though, they are cute.>" You compliment her, pointing a finger gun at her.
>>
>"<...Thanks?>" She replies, looking visibly confused. "<Can't we talk about something less embarrassing, at least?>"

"<Fire away if you have any ideas, but all I have in mind is the festival, our midterms and wondering where I can get a helmet that fits me.>" You answer, shrugging once more.

>"<The festival…>" Momo says, looking at the ceiling. You have to admit, it's impressively high. "<Do you have any pro you hope to impress? I'm hoping for a disaster relief and rescue hero to notice me… After this hectic week, I'm confident of my fighting prowess, but a fair bit disappointed in U.A's rescue training so far. It'd be nice to have some reassurance.>"

Everything's Bigger in Texas is great for search and rescue, but it'd be a shame to squander that amazing combat potential.
>>
>>2342812
I'm inclined to agree, but a ratings-focused internship could be a good opportunity to learn about presentation and stuff from a pro. Might improve our Face by the end of it.
>>
>>2343046
Problem is, the power works even better on buffing someone else, because they still have their quirk, while we're just big.
>>
>>2343079
That's a big benefit during team battles, but EBiT is still an A+ quirk in solo combat. Shrinking pretty damn OP against anyone that isn't death-on-touch bullshit like Shiggy and Overhaul.
>>
>>2343079
...but they also get the huge drain on endurance that they haven't trained to absorb. Like, Deku knocked himself out without All Might so much as touching him.

Even discounting all the other ways we're good with our quirk, we're also the only one who's actually trained to handle it.

Being noticed is an important part of a hero career. Wanting the spotlight means you want to be noticed by a high tier hero to show you the works. Doesn't mean your just a diva.
>>
>>2343240
Anon, Stain is like that robot Santa from Futurama.
His standards are impossibly high.
>>
>>2343182
Stain can get bent, people put too much stock in what one past-his-prime schlub thinks of them.
>>
>>2343281
Oh I don't care what The World's Biggest Ninja Turtles Fan thinks of us. But let's be honest here, in a 1v1, he'd annihilate us. Hell he'd probably be able to 1v1 just about anybody in setting. Iida, Deku, and Shoto only survived their encounter because of two factors:
They outnumbered him.
And he initially didn't want to kill Deku, giving Deku time to bring in Shoto.
>>
>>2343280
It's not like Stain is here, in Momo's house, listening to this conversation. When we encounter him, we just have to remember to say the right Paragon tier stuff, about heroism and making the world a better place.

As it stands, the most expedient way to do that is to get noticed at the festival.
>>
>>2343297
While that would be reasonable for a real person, Stain is an anime man. Chances are with anime men if they're "powerful" enough, they'll be able to read a person's soul in their eyes or somesuch shit.

Also, the chances we'll be involved in that altercation are slim.
>>
>>2343303
Its fortunate then that we haven't exactly hammered out what is in Ushi's soul then. Just have to make the choices that are pure heroism.
>>
>>2343182
Honestly, I'm pleasantly surprised even if I don't agree with them per se. I'm starting to get tired of the "What would All Might do?" crowd.
>>
>>2343330
I mean, what would all might say in this situation anyways?
>>
>>2343332
Maybe front lines because that's where you can inspire the most hope and change the most lives. That or a write in saying that he'd want to be an all rounder who simply goes wherever he's most needed.
>>
Okay, so don't take offense to this guys. Got lost busy for quite a while and I just remember some early thread arguments.

So have we taken a romance path yet? My main way of judging whether I can get into a quest is how it is roleplayed, this one has stuck around so I bet the QM is good.

But one very important question. Does Ushi have a love interest, and is it heterosexual or lesbian. That may sound super offensive and stuff to some of you, but I am just trying to catalogue how many times a female Quest MC manages to have a heterosexual love interest since it seems like most of people who play quests even back in the old /tg/ days (especially then) are totally not comfortable with seeing a female char they are invested with/represent be attracted to a man.

Because honestly, I have never seen a female MC manage to somehow NOT be gay. If there are a few please point them out to me, it isn't that I am homophobic, it just gets to the point were it goes from being "A refreshingly quirky character difference!" to "OH God not this shitty cliche again..." after so many years. This only qualifies for quests that actually get to a romance stage of the quest obviously.
>>
>>2343365
kirishima is best boy and i will fight with all my power to waifu him
>>
>>2343369
Wow you mean by this point we havent assembled a harem of women who we are "romancing"? I swear a lot of QMs have quit just because players kept trying to cause mcs who are explicitly stated as hetero or too-busy-for-relationshipsexual to try to seduce the hottest chick in the story. One of the reasons I am SUPER wary about quests with female MCs glad to see this one has kept going, guess it is safe to catch up on.
>>
>>2343365
Shes pretty not gay.

Ushi isn't gay, that much seems fairly certain. Right now the top contenders for the Ushibowl seem to be Todoroki, Iida, and Kaminari.

Kirishima is too Bro-tier to be romanced.

With Kaminari and Iida running after the Ushi bowl i doubt Kiri will try something. He's to honourable to go after a girl that a bro likes.

That I need to explain it is ridiculous.
Just because you're friends with someone, even best friends, even BFF's, doesn't mean they're meant for you romantically. It's perfectly fine to date someone other than your longtime friend. Just because you're close to someone and grew up with them doesn't mean you gotta fuckin marry them or anything like that.

Regardless, Denki is my current bestboi by virtue of
A. Expressing clear interest.
B. Not collapsing into a pile of loose noodles when he tries to make a move.
C. Actually being pretty dang charming.

Shoto and Iida can still win, but for that to happen they kinda have to get in the damn game.
>>
>>2343454
I can't see Shoto actively being interested in the subject, so that'd have to be something Ushi springs on him, herself.

Iida, on the other hand, tried once but got misunderstood. I can see him giving it another shot.

Or he read the wiki and trusted the citation.
>>
>>2343458
I personally think he's conflicted because on the one hand he probably likes us but on the other hand his Dad wants him to get with us and he hates doing what Enji wants.

Comfy Romance vs. Sticking It To Endeavor could be a tough call for him.
>>
>>2343465
He just has to learn the best thing to do is disregard endeavor- dont do shit just because his dad wants him to, but also dont do shit just because his dad would disapprove.

"<You know, I'd like to hit the rating charts. Kind of like Mt. Lady and Midnight did. Give me that spotlight!>" You answer, instinctively pulling on your shirt' shoulder. "<I know I can hold my own in a scrap, and I have no doubts on my mind that this quirk of mine can help folks caught in God's wrath. The press and the popularity though?>"

You sigh and put forwards your empty cup, placing a new tea bag in it after Momo refills it.

"<Not so sure I can handle 'em all that well. Whole different animals, drawing attention and talking. I can do the first with ease, but it won't be worth much if all I can do after is choke on my boot.>" You explain yourself. <"Besides, popularity is a huge part of being a hero nowadays, and they are pretty damn popular. Being a sidekick to one of them for a while would get me both fame and the know-how to deal with it.>"

>"<I hope that Mt. Lady's office stabilizes within the next three years, and or Midnight starts hiring girls within the same time frame, then.>" Momo comments, nodding. "<I don't believe you'll have much problem with popularity, since both your quirk and… development are quite eye catching. But you chose two unlikely examples to hire you as a sidekick.>"

"<Well, you said "hope". And it's not like they are going to decide whether or not to hire us now, they'll just tell us if they think we are a fit for their offices, and I see myself on either of them."> You say, shrugging. "<I just like to think that when the whole world turns to look at me, I'll be in control of the situation. Still got a ways to go, though.>"

>"<Indeed, we all do. Else we wouldn't have enrolled into a hero course.>" Your friend tells you, sipping her green tea. <"Skill, raw power and presence… it's hard to believe that they are equally important for a hero. All of us will need to improve in different ways, but we should be similarly capable by the end of the course.">

"<And academia. I can't imagine who, but I'm sure there'll be a few of our classmates that'll forget the school part and focus only on the hero training.>" You point out.

>"<People have this deranged idea that you can replace a well thought out study plan with a last ditch effort the night before the exams themselves.>" Momo replies, glaring at nothing in particular.

You quickly sip your tea to avoid making eye contact, remembering how you passed the written part of the entrance exam.

>"<Speaking of studying, we should get back on track.>" She says, then cleans her throat. "Besides too much english is rough on the throat. Not as much as french, but there's no replacing the softness of the japanese language."

"Eh, I think both have their charms." You reply, switching to your accented japanese. "Math now?"

>"Sound good. Do you think we can reach quadratic equations before having to move on to art?" Your host asks before finishing her tea and putting away the cup and its saucer.

"Not sure, but it's worth a try." You answer, doing the same. "And it's not like the principles of costume design are hard."

You are completely sure that brains don't sweat, but studying with Momo made you doubt it at times.

It was hard, and you ended with your first non-trauma induced headache in weeks, but you not only kept up…

>"Well, that example solves for 4!" Momo said, dropping her pencil and blowing away the eraser residue from her notebook before trying to snap it shut.

You stopped her though, keeping her notebook open with your hand.

"And?" You asked her, pointing at the plus-minus sign with the cap of your pink pen.

She stopped in her tracks for a second and reviewed her notes, retracing her steps.

>"And 5. I can't believe I forgot to write half the answer!" She said, lifting her glasses and pinching the bridge of her nose. "Thank you."

"No problem, if we could always get this things right the first time, we wouldn't have to study." You told her, smiling.

And even though you corrected that small mistake, that didn't even amount to an error, you were impressed.

It was literally the only bump on the entire day.

While lunch and dinner were a mess of forks and etiquette that almost made yourself wonder if you were raised in a barn, Momo and her mother were kind enough to not hold it against you, gently correcting you every move.

While tedious, you couldn't bring yourself to be upset at them.

"All in all, an excellent day." You think as Momo walks you to her mansion's gate.

It's still as impressive from the inside as it was from the outside.

>"<So… Do you think we could… hang out more? I have time this week now." She asks you before the self opening iron gates.

"I don't see why no..." You start to answer, then stop. "Actually, I think we have a problem."

>"Whatever do you mean?" Momo asks.

"We'll need to redo the cleaning schedule for this next two weeks." You tell her, looking up to the first stars and scratching the back of your neck. "I may have been... volunteered… to do it myself."

>"...Alone? That will take you about an hour each day. Maybe more." She comments, wilfully going along with your lie.

"I'll bear with it…" You say, sighing before continuing. "Thing is, I can't do anything tomorrow after class. Maybe later in the week?"

>"We can work out the details later." Momo sighing herself. "But that won't be a rescheduling, we'll have to scrap those two weeks of scheduling. It will mess with the plans of the rest, too."

"I reckon they'll like their newfound free time." You say, sporting a sheepish smile.

>"But that'll be tomorrow." She says, leaning forwards and hugging you. "Take care now. I'd offer you to stay the night over, but it's a bad idea with classes tomorrow."

"The worst thing that could happen would be dying of boredom on the train back." You reply, returning the hug in kind. "See ya tomorrow."

With farewells exchanged, you release each other and part ways.
>>
Sure enough, nothing at all happens on your walk back to the station, nor on the trains.

Well, a gang of drunken men leered your way from the moment they got in, muttering to each other and pointing at you, but their stop came long before yours did, so you didn't have to deal with it.

It also kept you wide awake and alert during the rest of the ride.
You wondered if that made what you told Momo a lie.

It was almost midnight by the time you arrived back at the house, but the sound of hooves at the other side of the door told you that Momma was still up and about before you managed to open the door.

"Howdy!" You say the moment you step in, seeing your mother sitting by the kotatsu and looking at her phone. "Feelin' better now?"

>"Oh, heya hun." She says, turning to look at you. "Yeah… I just needed some sleep, still went for a salad, just in case. I got to work on finding you a new doc after lunch, tough."

"Any luck?" You ask her, leaving your backpack on the floor for now and going to the kitchen for a coke.

>"Some promising names. Still gotta call 'em though." She answers, showing you a sheet of paper with about five names and phone numbers on it when you return with your soda. "It's not many, and they are all in Tokyo, but we won't have to go to the north."

"Huh. We could vi-" You try to suggest looking for your uncle if you need to go there, but your mother swiftly interrupts you.

>"No." She says, making an horizontal cutting motion with her hand. She wasn't taking any rebukes. "...Anyway… How did things go with Yaoyorozu?"

>What do you do?

I think that out think would help us investigate and see a adversary attack plan. Would also help us on using our shrinking quirk for a idea i have being cooking in my head.

It's kinda dumb but we basicaly stick close to Shoto, shrink ourselfs when he's about to blast away in his Ice power and catch a ride on his clothing the entire race
>>
>>2345773
Man, we've already demonstrated the fact that we can fucking super-jump buildings (if we can do it without shattering our bones). Between that and the fact that steps taken at 40ft tall tend to be longer, we really shouldn't be worried about that part of the test.
>>
>>2345780
It's not our ability to go fast I'm worried about.
It's things like "will this fuck up our stamina for the next two sections" and "will this paint us as an enormous target" and "will we step on anyone?"

Which is why I fully support pulling a Mineta on Shoto, Deku, or Baku.
>>
>>2345788
"Painting an enormous target" on ourselves is kind of the idea, though. This is all about looking good! We literally just voted on this! We wanna make it big!
>>
>>2345780
More worried about avoiding all the robots and using a smart way to complete the test. Also we get very tired if we use our bigger size.

It would be also a way to show our skill with our quirk with shrinking and then during the cavalary we go mount lady and become the american Colossus
>>
>>2345792
We can paint a bigger target when we get to the cavalary part and win it with our hugeness
>>
>>2345795
I guess. I still feel like it's better to try to do it on our own. I mean, Mineta's hitchhiking didn't actually earn him a single offer in the end.

Also there's a chance that we just get fucking fastballed to the back if someone catches us. We can't glue ourselves to our mark, unlike Mineta. Not worth it.
>>
>>2345792
Also if you have a better idea to show our shrinking besides making our oponent become tiny action figures i'm all ears.
>>
>>2345817
It's not a question of winning it's more showing off that we can use our quirk for infultration and sneaking. If you are so admant about us losing for not doing with our on power we can just de-sgrink when Deku proves to be in the lead. And ride the sonic boom of our tiny self becoming our normal sized self to propel and steal the first place.
>>
>>2345724
>>["I think I learnt one or two things about logic and problem solving." +1 Out-think]
>>
>>2345822
I mean, that IS the main one, yes. Shrinking is good for sneaking, but that's not relevant here, y'know? Don't shoehorn it in if it's a bad idea.

Shrinking demonstrably works just fine on the robots, if you like? Our Quirk is fast enough not to waste TOO much time on them if we chose to take them out.
>>
>>2345831
Point guess i caugth up to much on the idea and was kinda worried we would exhaust ourselfs.

I guess i kinda got worried with our girl stamina because we did so little when we faced villan All Might. I mena what we did? We made Deku big, used our sonicboom to jump out of the hole and then gigantified Kiri? But i guess i was co fusing mental and trauma estress with quirk use fatique.
>>
>>2345903
Being a support is not a bad thing. Supports are the most dangerous part of the team.
>>
>>2345903
Yeah, but because we did those things All Might folded like a cheap suit.

Support isn't glitzy but it DOES win fights, so that's still something.
>>
>>2345916
>>2345915
Not worried about our roll as support guys i meant that that would mean Ushi had at least three uses on her quirk before getting exhausted.

Woo, finally caught up. Was a thread behind.
>>
The vast majority of UA students have brains of 3 or less.
Most of the students above that have an intelligence rating of 4.
Only a select few have 5, and one has 6.
If we want to prevent the brain-4 students from having a tactical edge over us during the festival, we need Out-think to even the odds.
Even better is that it gives us the tactical edge over the brains-3 students, unless they themselves have a point in out-think.

Basically, if we get out-think we can secure ourselves tactically in the festival.
(And it doesn't hurt to be smarter than the villains, either)

>>["I think we connected." +1 Free Relationship Die (Momo)]

I'm little surprised by lack of votes for this considering how some people wanted combo moves with Momo very much.
>>
>>2346213
this person is right. Momo relationship die won't be useful that much.
Outthink would give us free intel on our opponents if they are not smarter than average. It's not a roll, just looking at the passive number.
It can also be used to discover weaknesses in enemy quirks, which is also very useful.
>>
>>2346220
It's because the Outhink die are that much better of an option. Also because a relationship die with Momo is not likely to be useful that much, especially since we have the relationship of "the girls" SO big threats could be folded into that.

Outthink seem like a skill everyone with brain after some combat training would have but well, game mechanics are game mechanics.

I imagine most characters would rely on raw brains if they cared about brains at all. Most heroes and villains are often just beat the other guy with your powers.
Outhink isn't just "can be clever in a pinch" its basically being a tier smarter when it comes to battle of wits.

I feel like the scene lends itself to the natural building of Momo's and Ushi's relationship. Also if you think that Relationship won't play a part in the festival you are just plain wrong. A number of those events were group based and how we gel with our classmates may be a deciding factor in any of the events.

Not many, and there is no gurantee we team with her. Anyhow, The only team event is the cav battle, and outthinking the enemy is more useful as it helps our awareness in combat.

"I think I learnt one or two things about logic and problem solving, and had… fun?" You answer, unable to avoid tilting your head in confusion. "Studying. Uh. Never saw that one coming."

>"Well… I can't say much about studying hun, that's kinda like taxes. But most things can be fun if you like who you are doing them with." She says, leaving her phone on the and kotatsu and standing up, stretching. "Considering you risked taking a midnight train through the country, I'm expecting no less than a 101 on your midterms, missy."

"Sure." You reply, crossing your arms and smiling smugly. "As good as done."

>"Yeah, yeah… No, wait. Actually, do try to show off your grades." Momma says, scratching her chin. "Now go get ready for bed, you have school tomorrow."

"Yes, mom." You tell her, rolling your eyes, picking up your backpack and taking the stairs.

>"...But I am your mother. What is that even supposed to mean?" You leave your mother pondering as you begin your still fairly new night routine.

Exercise and a shower were all that stood between you and a good night's sleep and you took care of that as fast as you could. The last time you went tired to school you ended fighting for your life and passing out from exhaustion.

All Might's lesson rings true in your head, you can't afford to lower your guard.

So after giving your head a vigorous scrubbing, both trying to get rid of the constantly returning itch and to just clean your hair. You love your free flowing golden mane, but by the end of the day it has caught a trace of everything you walked close to. Every single day.

After trying with Lady Hair once… You went right back to Mane 'n Tail.
It just works for you, even if you don't really have any of what it says on the label.

Despite going to bed at nearly two in the morning, you set your alarm extra early.

You don't plan on ever using it, but you want to get Pony's gift dealt with posthaste, and with your schedule not giving you a single breather tomorrow, you need to show up at the infirmary well before classes if you want Recovery Girl to look at it.

The morning is easy on your body, but from the very moment you step off the bed everything behind your eyelids feels like it's grinding against itself and barely working.

Lovely.

Still you steel yourself and prepare for a rough day, doing your best to not wake up momma earlier than needed.

Once you are done slogging your way through most of your morning routine, you finally do something you hoped you wouldn't ever have to do.

You open your mother's can of black coffee and brew yourself a cup.

Glancing at the clock to reassure yourself that you are doing the right thing, you pinch your nose and drink the mug of less-dense-tar.

Much like her stance on most things, you can't negate that the thing works, kicking you awake like an adrenaline shot to the neck.

But it also tastes and feels like the evil twin of molasses, every drop as sickeningly bitter and sour as molasses is sweet and dense.

Even as you feel ready for the new day, you wonder if getting the last four inches of your tongue numb was worth it, as the feeling persist during the train to U.A and beyond.

You think it's because of how early you set off this time, but you don't see any familiar faces on the way to school. Your only company are a few fellow commuters and the odd drunk that must be sleeping his on the train since last night.

Even U.A itself looks empty, with very few students in sight when you arrive.
Not that you mind, the least people wondering what are you doing with a cooler in school grounds the better

The only one who looks alive and ready for the day is Snipe, who looks just as ready as ever to scare the living daylights out of anyone who would dare to run in the hallways.

You tip your hat to him when you pass by the wall he likes to lean against, receiving the same greeting in kind.

While he notices the cooler, he doesn't stop you. What a cool guy.

You aren't sure if you would have been able to make it to Recovery Girl's office and back before classes started if he had stopped you, but you are sure you have more than enough time when you reach your destination.

>"What are you doing here so early, dearie?" Recovery Girl asks when you enter her office, a bit startled. "If you injured yourself training at home, you should come back after classes. It won't do it if you fall asleep midway through the day."

"Nothin' like that." You reassure her with a wave of your hand. "I do need your help though, and I'd like to be sure that what I say will stay between the two of us."

Even you recoil at your poor choice of words, but you don't know how "Bringing unlicensed drugs to school" is handled in U.A, and you don't want to know.

>"As long as it doesn't endanger you or other, yes. I won't say anything."She says, booting up her desk computer and taking her seat. "So… Are you pregnant? Because if that's it, I can't help you."

"What? No!" You answer, shaking your head both as a negative and to force down your blush.

Intent on keeping the school nurse from keep guessing, you bring forth the cooler and take out the box with the injector within.

"I got this drug and I wanted to know if it was dangerous. I don't wanna use it, but I'd rather not destroy it if possible." You tell her, pulling on the brim of your hat to hide your face.

>"I see… and I don't suppose you can tell me how you came to possess this substance?" Recovery Girl asks you, looking at the box from every angle.

"No can do, sorry." You answer, shaking your head. "I just want to know if it has to be destroyed or if I can return it to its source."

She continues looking at the small text blocks on the box, typing a few words into her computer every few seconds.

After a couple of minutes, she places the box back on her desk and pushes towards you.

>"You are in luck dearie. Had it been something actually dangerous, I would have had to ask you again under threat of expulsion." The kindly old woman explains. "It's not illegal, nor is it dangerous enough for me to invoke such a thing. But I must tell you that it would be a bad idea to take it. This kind of derivatives from the japanese weak quirk improvement drug are both mucb weaker and permanent, and still the subject of much debate. The younger the patient is, larger the improvement, down to doing almost nothing on adults over twenty one. At that point it would do little more than initiate and accelerate the recovery of wounds in mutations."

You can see now how Pony thought it was a good idea. With her level of japanese, it probably sounded even better.

>"I assume that's why it ended in your hands. But I can't recommend-" Recovery Girl starts, in a tone that reminds you far too much of last week's wednesday.

"Don't worry, you don't need to convince me. I'm not goin' to take it." You softly cut her off. "I'm fine with it all now… If I'm going to risk my life every day for everyone, fretting over a scar feels a tad silly, doesn't it?"

>"I see Ectoplasm talked with you." She answers with a sad smile. "It's curious. No matter how small a loss may look compared to others, the process is always so similar."

"...No. He didn't. Why?" You ask her, fairly confused.

>"Oh… He doesn't make a big fuzz about it nowadays, but he lost his leg to a villain years ago. Part of why he decided to slow down and start teaching. I thought he might have talked to you." The youthful heroine explains.

"...Well, now I feel like a brat." You honestly say. "I can't even compare this scratch to that."

>"If you say so…" She says, shrugging. "You should get going now anyway, if you dilly-dally any longer you'll be late for class."

"Right, thank you very much." You say with the appropriate bow, stuffing the box back in the cooler and standing up.

And right she was, as you barely had time to take your seat before Mr. Aizawa entered the room. You had to stand up almost instantly, as that meant that you had to tend to your duties as class representatives.

As you are starting to get used to, you and Momo stand in front of the blackboard and take attendance. After double checking for Toru, you confirm that everyone made it back today.

>"Remember, the Sports Festival is in exactly two weeks as of now, so try to find what training works for you while you still have time." Momo interprets the only announcement of the day.

Well, the only written announcement.

Mr. Aizawa doesn't need to say anything, just glance your way from beneath his still bandaged face.
>>
"....And to finish the announcements, I'll be personally taking care of the cleaning this coming weeks, so I'm afraid y'all who were on schedule till the festival will be free to go early. Sorry about that." You announce with a chuckle, hoping the good news would keep your classmates from asking questions.

>"Eh, I didn't have anything to do today anyway, might as well help out, right?" Denki comments.

You are almost certain you saw Mr. Aizawa smirk at that, but you have no proof.

>"Since Walker didn't exactly volunteer for this, you aren't allowed to help. She has to do it on her own." Mr. Aizawa explains, dashing away all your hopes of not calling attention to the fact that you are being punished.

You sigh and do your own short walk of shame back to your seat, getting a pat in the back from Toru.

But from that moment onwards, school felt once more… like a school.
And, thanks to spending all of your sunday blazing through the week's lessons, even more boring than it'd normally be. You don't mind though, boring is school-like and normal. You can deal with boring and normal.

Thus you coast your way to lunch and the cafeteria, where the classes break down into smaller groups to eat and chat.

Mina, Tsu and Kyoka are sharing a table with Momo. Mina sees you glancing their way and waves at you, while Kyoka suddenly finds her rice really interesting.

At the other side of the cafeteria, Tsunotori, Kendo, Tetsutetsu and Monoma are chatting over their meal. Monoma manages to somehow make a spork look respectable, as he waves it around as he talks.

And as always, Deku, Iida and Uraraka sit together. Not surprising.

A tad stranger is seeing Kaminari, Sero and Mineta chatting it up on their table.
Then again, Denki is really nice, Sero doesn't seem to feel strongly about anyone and Mineta can be friendly, if you can shrug off the ogling and the comments. Shouldn't be an issue with guys, now that you think about it.

So, how exactly did Ushi lose sensation in her horn from it being burnt?
As far as I can tell, the only nerves cows have related to their horns is the cornual nerve right where their skull meets the base of their horn.

And as far as I can tell with a search, cows don’t have sensation with their horn except with the very base due to this.

Admittedly, I’m not exactly inclined to or easily capable of going out and squeezing the front of a cows horns with a vice to see if it responds.
>>
>>2349944
It's a tree thing.
>>
>>2349944
Magic tree horn doesn't subscribe to normal biology.
As for losing sensation, it also got punched really hard, which could have caused it to shift in its place, pulling on the nerve and damaging it maybe.

Sure, you are used to being looked at.
They are usually more... wanton, though. The glares are new.

But since you can't recognize a single face amongst the students glaring at you, you assume they must be student form the other courses.

Thus, it matters not.

Let them gaze upon the gal whose dust they'll eat.
The gauntlet was thrown, and you'll leave them all behind when the time comes.
For now, they can do nothing but watch.

You pick up your two trays, chicken katsudon this time, and approach Itsuka's table.

>"...edge, but it'll go away after the first event, second at most." Monoma says, waving his plastic spork like an orchestral conductor's baton, giving it a twirl at the end of every word.

>"Yeah, but the whole point of the event is showing what makes us unique." Tetsutetsu replies, leaning over the table and propping his head up with his fist. "This low profile thing makes no sense."

Since you don't understand what they are talking about and just standing there would be both awkward and rude, you decide to greet them.

"Howdy! Room for one more?" You ask the four of them, making your presence known.

>"No offence, b-" Monoma tries to answer, but is quickly cut off by Kendo.

>"Sure, take a seat and join in." She tells you, pulling out a chair between Pony and herself.

>"Why did you even ask?" Monoma asks, dragging his hand down his face.

"I didn't want to intrude?" You answer, tilting your head.

>"Not you, Walker." Monoma says, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm just wondering why would the band of windbags I call my friends ask for my ideas for the sports festival and then ignore them the instant they come into play. Let me tell you, it's infuriating."

>"There, ther." Pony consoles him, patting his back.

"Can I get some context?" You ask looking around the table, sneaking a piece of fried chicken into your mouth. Yummy.

>"I got this." Tetsutetsu says, pointing at the blonde boy. "I was wondering what could we do to get an edge on the festival, beyond training our asses off. Dude over here always has ideas, so I asked for his take. Taking out all the wordiness and the spork pointing, he thinks that keeping our skills and quirks a secret would help us. I say it's bullshit."

>"No, you didn't, but thanks for the honesty. Really, I appreciate it." Monoma points out, dropping his spork on his dish. "So, Walker. I know that you have seen what he does, so if you had to fight Tetsutetsu, say on a dohyo. Till knock out or like in sumo, getting him off the ring. How would you go about it?"

You only think about it for a couple of seconds.
He goes all shiny and seemingly invulnerable, unfazed by strikes from someone who can easily lift you by accident.

"Fighting him head on would be pointless, so I would get him off the ring." You answer. "Wouldn't be too hard with my quirk."

>"And me?" Monoma asks then.

Okay… You don't actually know what he does.

"I'd try to touch you and use my quirk, I guess?" You answer between forkfuls of rice, unsure.

>"See?" Monoma says, picking up his spork and waving it at you.

"I guess that makes sense?" You say, beginning to understand what he means.

If you know your foe, you can plan and prepare. Denying that edge to your foes would help you by default, and more so if you get to know about them.

>"The whole point is to get the pros to see what we can do! We should give our all from the first whistle… Or flare, or gunshot. Whatever they use this year." Tetsutetsu argues back, and you can see his point too.

You grimace and look at the other girls on the table for support.

Itsuka looks like she's not even hearing them anymore, while Pony's face looks like she's pleading the heavens for patience.

The boys don't look like they are having a great time either, as Tetsutetsu looks like he might lose his cool soon and Monoma's expression drips contempt.

It's not your class, and you barely know two of them, but you feel like you shouldn't let this escalate any further.

"Speaking about pros, do you have someone you want to impress?" You ask, hoping to defuse the situation. "Like, to be a sidekick for after graduation?"

You almost expect them to tell you to keep your nose in your own business, but they all stop.

Each one of them seems to ponder it for a few minutes.

After some thoughtful silence, Pony shyly answers.

>"Uhm… No." She says. "I don't want to work for anyone..."

"...You want to strike out on your own?" You ask with a smile and earnest interest, encouraging her.

Pony stumbles with her words a few times, then switches to english.

>"<Well… Yeah. I don't aim for the top ten. I just…" She explains softly, twirling a lock of her hair in her hand. "I just think that people worry way too much. Finances, politics, health and family… It's far too much for me. Life shouldn't be so hard, so… complicated. So much weight on everyone's shoulders… I don't like it.>"

"So?" You ask, pressing her to continue.

She then lifts her face and looks at you, straight at your eyes. You have seen that face before, in the mirror. Pure confidence.

>"<So I'm going to do my part, and nobody will have to worry for their security or that of their families under my watch. A nice and cozy office in the suburbs to pay for all the bills and from where help the community…>" She sighs, but it's not a sad one, but a longing one. "<Not the kind of office that brings the news crews, yeah, but what else could I ask for?">

"Why U.A, then?" You ask her. While no hero gets a nice quiet life, U.A's Heroics Department is known for its famous and daring heroes.

>"To be the best hero I can be!" She answers, a proud smile on her face… That falls apart after a second. "I never told that before..."

>"That's… really noble, Pony." Monoma says, clearly impressed.

Then again, mutations don't make you an animal. You would know.

>"...I didn't get any of that." Tetsutetsu suddenly says, then grins. "But that's the spirit! Take pride in what you believe in!"

>"Maybe you won't go looking for the media, but I can see that on the back of your biography in a couple of decades." Itsuka says. "How about you, Ushi?"

"Uh? Midnight and-slash-or Mt. Lady." You answer.

>"Not that, silly. Why are you here, studying heroics in U.A.?" Itsuka asks you. "Why do you want to be a hero?"

Why do i want to be a hero...?
Originally, I wanted to be hero for a pretty petty reason. I... well, I was lonely, you know? Growin' up, seeing those heroes on TV and hearing how others looked up to them, I thought... I wanted to be them. Then they'd have to look at me like that? Instead of making fun of me? Just a childish sentiment, I know, but that kind of thinking made me want to be a hero. I wanted other to see me, and then rub it in their faces that that was me they were seeing on TV, being famous, smiling without a care in the world, with more money than I could do with! Maybe then they'd... Well, never mind that.
But... with my quirk, I realized something. I had power. A lot of it. I was a bit of a handful as a kid. And seeing all might on TV with his whole because I am here! routine, smile on his face, and the work of other heroes, like midnight, I really, actually realized... I could do that. I could help people. Like, for real, help people. I could be a hero of justice.
And then I started studying to be one. practicing wrestling moves, hitting the books, things like that... And it was fun. Genuinley fun. This was something I could do for the rest of my life, I thought, beating up bad guys and takin' names.
Later I learned that being a hero meant being an Icon. When you're on the big screen, you stand for something. What that something is, well, that depends on the person. A goal, a savior, a person to look up to. Like I did when I was little. If theres a little horned girl out there being bullied because she's a bit different out there, and then i appear on that TV of hers with that smile that all might has, saying It'll be alright, then that's just great isn't it? If I can make her feel a little less alone in the world...
So I guess, I have a lot of reasons. Not all of them are that important anymore, Some part of me still wants to stand up on stage and say "Ha! Look at me!" But it's not nearly as important now as wanting to help others, wether through saving them from a disaster or from the wells they've dug themselves into. I'll be there to say it's fine now, because I am here!

This is a tough call. To me, Ushi's defined by stubbornness (often channeled into loyalty) and a need for attention (though she often seems conflicted about it). This seems like the best way to channel those two traits into something positive.

/k/'s favorite waifu, the protagonist of Gunsmith Cats, a rather cool manga by Kenichi Sonoda (who is such a cool dude that he once SIGNED A GUN for a /k/ommando at a con, pic related). And he's right, she really is the ultimate best girl.
Gunsmith Cats is mostly known stateside for a really good OVA adaptation where the production team took a trip to Chicago for location research, resulting in some Chicagoans actually saying they recognize specific streets during chase scenes. While they were stateside they also recorded sounds for every single firearm in the series from the real thing, and hunted down a Shelby GT500 Fastback modified identically to Rally's, again for sound purposes.

Everything would scale up, but Assuming the gun doesn't break because your 2X increase to all dimensions, which includes the side thickness, is 8X the powder, you would also deal with 8X the bullet mass, so exit velocity should stay the same.

Why do you want to be a hero?..
It's a pretty short and simple question.

Couldn't be more different from the answer.

"Why do I want to be a hero..?" You ponder out loud, flicking your hat back into place.

You are a person, one who has changed and grown since she decided to be hero.

Can there even be one single reason?
No. Not really.

"Originally, I wanted to be hero for a pretty petty reason. I... well, I was lonely, you know?" You say, thinking back to your "childhood" back on Texas. Back when your classmates used to call you an animal, "tip" you over for a laugh and stick tape on your earrings to make them look like tags.

The gals in your class know the gist of it, but none of your Class-B pals knows that about you.

Still you continue, taking a second to look at everyone at the table.
They are all looking at you, waiting for you to continue.

"Growin' up, seein' those heroes on TV and hearin' how others looked up to them, I thought... I wanted to be them. Then they'd have to look at me like that? Instead of making fun of me?" You say, first waving a hand over the table in wonder, then pinching the bridge of your nose. "Kinda childish, I know, but that kind of thinking made me want to be a hero."

You then raise your hand in front of your face and close your fingers one by one, forming a fist.

"I wanted others to see me, and then rub it in their faces that that was me they were seeing on TV, being famous, smiling without a care in the world, with more money than I could do with! Maybe then they'd... Well, never mind all that." You prune that train of thought, opening your hand and looking at Pony, Itsuka and the boys.

Just looking at the four teenagers at the table, quietly listening to you is enough proof for you that you have moved beyond that. They care about what you say.

So you continue.

"But... with my quirk, I realized something. I had power. A lot of it... I was a bit of a handful as a kid." You chuckle, taking your fork and enlarging it to be as long as the tray for a fraction of a second, before turning it back to normal. "And seeing All Might on TV with his whole "Because I am here!" routine, that smile on his face, and the work of other heroes, like Midnight, or even Captain Celebrity back then... I really, actually realized... I could do that. I could help people. Like, for real, help people. I could be a hero of justice.
So I started studying to be one, practicing the odd wrestlin' move, hitting the books and mainly burning myself out to get a grip on my quirk... And it was fun. Genuinely fun. This was something I could do for the rest of my life, I thought, beating up bad guys and takin' names."

Looking over your audience, you can't help but smirk as Itsuka and Tetsutetsu nod in agreement. Never since you met them have thought they'd shy away from a scrap, but it's good to see that they enjoy them too.

"But later on I learned that being a hero meant being an Icon. When you're on the big screen, you stand for something. What that something is, well... That depends on the person doesn't it? To be a savior, a person to look up to… an inspiration." You continue, feeling like you are on to something.

"Like I wish I had when I was little. If there's a horned little girl out there being bullied because she's a bit different, I want to be there for her. To appear on that TV of hers with the same kinda smile that All Might has, and tell her that it'll be alright, to tell her from personal experience that things can indeed get better... If I can make her feel a little less alone in the world… I think I have to." You follow up with conviction, leaning forwards and looking at all four other occupants of the table in the eyes, starting with Itsuka and ending with Pony. For an instant, you wonder if you did so by accident. "I'm not shooting to be the new "Symbol of Peace", he'll still be here for a while after all, I'm going to be an icon for other bullied, sad or scared little ones to follow… to show that no matter what others think of them, or how much they feel forced to give in, they can be anything they want."

It's odd, feeling that bunch of burning embers of drive inside you coalesce into a single flame.
You won't ever deny that you like the benefits of heroics. The spotlight, the money, the bragging rights and the sheer thrill of it all… You like it all.

But that's not why you want to do it.

"So, lot of reasons, I guess, with one more important than the others. Heck, a small part of me wants nothin' more than to go "Ha! Look at me!" and showboat onstage... But it's not nearly as important now as wanting to help others, whether through saving them from a disaster, a villain, their own bad calls… Or just a sad lonely life." You finish with a serene smile, less like the smug mask you often don or the cocky one you often brag with, but a calm one that feels more like the one momma has when she looks at you.

In the end, it's not about you. You aren't going to do it for yourself, but for your Kin.
The mutants and the ostracized.

Having explained yourself, you start working on wolfing down your second serving of chicken katsudon. However, the first bite is cold.

"...Huh. I guess I rambled for too long." You comment, looking at the piece of fried chicken on your fork before eating it anyway. Even when cold, Lunch Rush's food is still way above the average.

It takes you a couple of seconds to notice the silence at the table, as you aren't supposed to hear your fork scraping against the dish

"Uh?.. That's it. I don't have anythin' more to say." You say, still looking down at your lunch but taking a page out of Monoma's book and waving your fork in their general direction. "So, Uhm… How about ya threeee-?!"

You barely hear the sound of hooves before Pony lifts you off your chair in a tight hug.
It wasn't quite strong enough to say she hugged the stuffing out off you, but it felt like your lunch came to an inch of leaving you the way it came.

>"That's so!.. so… Sweet!" Pony says, as she squeezes and shakes you from side to side. "I can see it! Your own little fan club! All those little moos asking for an auth- autogar- for you to sign their stuff!"

You aren't sure about how to feel about that comment, other than "hypoxic".

"Air.-wheeze- Pony." You interject to the best of your capabilities. The rice will start getting clumpy!

Your distress finally seems to snap Kendo, Monoma and Tetsutestu back to reality, with the second standing up.

>"I'll take care of her." Monoma says, walking around the table and tapping the back of Itsuka's hand. "Kendo, I hope you don't mind."

In an instant his hands grow turn gigantic up to his elbows, allowing him to close his hand around Pony and prying her off you. Not that she minds, if the soft whinny you heard is any indication.

Uh. You didn't think Monoma and Kendo were related.

As you gasp for air, you see him give her a soft smack over the head and place her back on her seat.

>"Sowry." Pony says sheepishly from across the table. "Got a bit emotional."

"Just… Warn me next time." You tell her, waving her worries off and returning to your lunch. "But I've not forgotten about you three, so spit it out."

>"Short version, to protect." Tetsutetsu says with a shrug, right after you spoke.

"I think I'm entitled to the long one." You point out.

>"Lost a cousin to a murderer. Sliced open from shoulder to hip." He says, slowly dragging his finger from his left shoulder to his opposite hip.

Jesus! You didn't expect that.
You don't really approve of revenge, but you can understan-

>"Oh, don't pity the bastard. Dude was a yakuza." He continues. He looking deadly serious, but not at all sad. "But he should be in jail, not in a casket. We have a hero per square meter, and this kind of things keep happening! Everyone dives for the glory and the flashy fights in city centres, but turn a blind eye to the shit that goes on on the underground."

"Isn't that the police's job? Heroes are for… pretty much everything else. Disasters, villains and the like." You ask him, putting away your dishes and wondering what he means.

Investigation and regular crime are the domain of the police officers.

>"Heroes are required to act when a villain acts, but are not forbidden from stopping normal crimes. But I don't think a guy being mugged by an addict is any less worthy of a hero's attention than a villain's hostage..." He explains, his shark-like grin looking far more menacing than his eyes. Those were filled with pride. "So I'm going to clean up the streets and the back alleys, hell, the sewers too if I have to! Even if I have to do it on my own!"

You nod and clap in appreciation.
Never before had you thought about that.

>"...Well…" Itsuka starts, giving a small chuckle. "Now I feel silly, you know? I always felt that "Truth and justice" and "It's the right thing to do" were good enough reasons, but now I think I'm getting a participation sticker on this."

>"It's not silly!" Pony argues, and you agree.

"Morals are as good a reason as any." You affirm, raising one finger.

>"Sappyness is overestimated, you are alright." Tetsutetsu reassures, grinning and giving her a thumbs up.

You look at all the heroes in training sharing their table with you, and notice two things.
One, Monoma has yet to say anything.
Two, he has a glass on his tray, and the smell doesn't exactly say "juice".

"...So, Monoma." You start, trying to not be too direct.

>"Neito! What bout you?" Pony asks him, making you feel redundant.

>"Me?.. Well, you guys have said everything." He says, slowly sliding his hand over his hair. "Truth, justice, honor and values, a dash of everything."

He then raises his wine glass, quickly looking at each of you, not staying his gaze on anyone for more than a second.

"A toast for heroic ideals?" He offers.

For some reason, the rest don't join immediately.
You never expected to be the best mannered gal in… well, any ensemble, but here you are, raising your juice box to his cup of almost-certainly-wine.

"For heroics and friendship!" You say, bumping his wine glass and looking at the others.

They share a glance before joining anyway.

>"For heroics!" They say as they ring their glasses and paper cups against your juice box and his wine glass.

It'd be fair to say that the atmosphere was a lot less tense from that point onwards, as you chatted the lunch period away, talking about coffee, for some reason.

Just before the bell rang, you dragged Pony back to your own classroom, 1-A.
True, Aoyama was there with his own wine, but ignoring him is almost second nature.

"<Thank you, but turns out I'm too young for this too do what I want the way I want, and it makes my momma kinda nervous.>" You tell Pony as you hand her back her small red cooler. "<So thank you, but I can't use it. And I didn't want to just get rid of it either, so here it is.>"

You give her a soft smile, trying to keep it genuine.
Similarly, she looks up at you and tilts her head to the side, remembering to correct your own tilt.

>"<But did you like it?>" She asks you, shaking the cooler slightly, as if checking what's inside. "<The choice? Do you feel better?>"

"<...Yeah.>" You answer, thinking back to your sunday. "<It's somehow different, choosing to keep the scar or just being stuck with it. Thanks Pony.>"

>"<No problem sis.>" She says, looking at the cooler. "<Now I got to deal with this… But I think I know how.>"

"<Just don't get in trouble, ok-?>" You tell her, genuinely worried about where did she even get that thing, but being cut off by the bell.

With a hug you say farewell to Pony, knowing that you won't have time after classes to meet her or anyone else again.

And keeping with the overly boring tone of the morning, today's Foundational Hero Studies class was about laws related to heroics, taught by Mr. Aizawa himself. Little that you didn't know about, and some things you even had a hand in. Most of what you didn't know were fines, the proactive cousin of taxes.

Come the end of the day's classes, you have to see all of your friends, acquaintances and Daisy leave you alone in the classroom, to clean the damn thing on your own.

You can't say you don't deserve it, but it is fucking frustrating.

At the very least, it's a good way to vent, even if you ended angrily mopping.

"DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE! DIE!" You yell as you hold the shrunken teacher' desk in one hand while mopping under it, finishing your arduous labour.

>"Ushi, are you done yet?" Shoto asks, opening the class

"YES!" You yell at him before dropping your mop and covering your mouth. "Dang! Sorry, I didn't mean to yell!"

>"It does not matter." He says with a shrug. "We should get going though, father was already unhappy knowing that we would be late."

>What do you do?

On one hand, you aren't exactly sorry bout making Mr. Abusive Father wait.
On the other, you don't really want to antagonize the guy who can melt concrete with his hands.

"Right, let's get going. I don't want to end training to dodge Hellspears." You reply, picking up the mop and bucket. "Lemme just put this away and we'll be leaving."

>"I am fairly sure that you will not have to dodge Hellspears." Shoto rebukes you, frowning slightly on . "But I am still uncertain of what he plans for you."

You think about that on your way to and back from the supply closet. Weeks ago you told him that you could take it, and you have no reason to go back on your word now.

"Don't say it like that, you make it sound creepy." You tell Shoto as you pick up your backpack and fall in line with him, making your way down the school's hallways. "I reckon it'll be training."

>"Are you not curious as for why?" He asks. "He does not play dice."

"Shame, gambling is fun. Everyone here thinks Mahjong is too exciting, I think poker would melt them." You comment, wilfully missing the point. "But yeah. I'm sure he has something in mind, and I wanna figure it out!.. But I've got no idea, and gettin' lost within my own head making stuff up would be a waste of time."

>"I suppose so. Maybe you will gain some insight into it after today?" Shoto replies.

"Maybe." You answer, shrugging and dropping the conversation.

While you have been to his home once before, you went there in momma's car, so how to get there via train was a mystery to you, heck, most of Musutafu's system is. You pretty much depend on the maps on the walls to get to any new places.

Nothing to worry about though, Shoto knows what to board and where to get off to get there.

Much like your house, you still need to walk a few blocks between the station and his home, but not enough to consider boarding a bus.

While the last time you visited was on the tail end of winter, the place doesn't look any different under the spring sun from the outside, as imposing as it can be in all of it's terribly impractical wood-and-paper japanese style.

Same street, same house, even momma's car is parked in the same place.
The only difference is that the cherry tree by the entrance is starting to bud.
You wonder when will they bloo-

"Huh." You let out as you wait for Shoto to open the gate.
>"Is something the matter?" Shoto asks.

"Just a bit surprised." You answer. "Didn't expect momma to be here."

>"Well, that should keep father from being too harsh." Shoto comments. "I doubt he could get what he wants if your mother forbids you from returning."

"Eh…" You sort-of-answer, dragging the syllable and looking away.

Unless Endeavor tried beating you up for no reason, you don't think Momma would interfere.
Both out of reverence, and because you know she doesn't have any issues with rough training. After all, she didn't even bat an eye after your first day at the dojo left you purple all over.
>>
Unlike the last time you were here, Shoto himself opens the front door.
Maybe his sister isn't home, but you think that he just wouldn't want to bother her.

>"...a delightful girl. Shouldn't give you any trouble… Once she gets here." You hear your mother's voice coming from further inside the building. "I just wonder what could have kept them. It is not like Ushi to just back out on her word, so she must be late."

Instead of following Shoto's lead, this time you go ahead and look for her, finding her in what you assume to be a living room, sitting at a table in front of Endeavor and holding a cup of tea.

"Howdy." You greet them, keeping your tone as neutral as you can. "Sorry for the wait, cleanin' took a while."

Shoto takes no time in joining you, entering the room just as his father lowered his own cup.

>"Shoto, young Walker... Welcome back." The hero says, looking really different with his beard… off.

>"Father, Mrs. Walker." Shoto says with a small nod, greeting the adults in the room.

>"Heya hun!" Momma greets you with a smile and a wave, before turning to Shoto. "Young Todoroki, so... formal."

"Momma, no offence, but what are you doing here?" You ask your mother.

>"Well hun, you can't train in uniform, so I brought you a change of clothes. Something that you can actually move in." She answers, raising a reusable plastic bag.

She's... right. Dress shirts are no good when you need to be fast, and you'd rather avoid going giant in a skirt again. That was an emergency.

>"Besides, I thought I could stay and watch." She continues. "I've never seen you "in action" you know? Enji said you would start with some sparring."

Sparring?
Against the N°2 hero of Japan? If you don't smash him instantly you'd be fucked.
It's not really fair!

>"Normally, I'd start by asking you to show me what you can do, but Shoto told me he lost a mock battle against you last week, and I'd like to see that. " The elder Todoroki says. "The training room is vast and resilient enough for Shoto, but I think you would be more comfortable outside, without a roof to care for."

You and Shoto share a glance at that. It makes more sense that way.
...But that fight was different.
It was an ambush and a two versus one fight at the same time, and you still got pretty close to being frozen solid.

At least, you trust Shoto to not go overboard, and you know you won't try to harm him either.

>What do you do?

>[Alright! "Let me get changed and I'll show you what I can do!"]

Gonna be tricky to take down a prepared Shoto. He knows that he has to keep out of touch range and he has plenty of ranged power. At least we have ways of breaking the ice so he can't just freeze us and call it a day.

I've been thinking about a trick where we take off our jacket or shirt and embiggened it as we throw it. Breaks line of sight, plus it'd be a bitch to get out of if it lands.
>>
>>2360332
another thing that breaks line of sight is shrinking. If we shrink to our smallest size and grow fast enough to normal size we can ride the mini sonic boom created by the weigth shift.

"Let me get changed and I'll show you what I can do!" You say, picking up the bag momma brought and looking inside. A white tank top, sports bra (clip included!), black spats and a pair of boots.

It'll do.

"Just… Don't expect the same exact results." You tell Endeavor, turning your gaze away from the inside of the bag and towards him. "This is kinda horse of a different color right here. I'll be alone and without the element of surprise… So, ya know… Eh."

>"As long as at least one of you gives their all, I'll be content." The hero explains, motioning at you with one hand and at his own son with the other.

>"...I'll wait outside." Shoto says, quickly turning on his heels and leaving the room.

>"As I was telling you Katsumi, while he's well-behaved, I feel like he doesn't respect me at all." Endeavor says, bringing a hand to his brow and slightly shaking his head. "I fear I didn't earn that soon enough."

>"A shame, really." Your mother says, placing a hand over her heart and making her bell ring softly. "But I can only imagine what it must be like to raise a family alone. You can't blame yourself… One was already a handful for us, It takes such a strong man to do what you did..."

Alone?..
You didn't know that.
Is Shoto..?
Damn.

"Gee mom, thanks." You tell her, slinging the bag over your shoulder and peeking outside the room. "...Could you please point me to a bathroom, Mr. Todoroki?"

>"Last room to the left, you can't miss it." He answers, picking up his own cup again. "Come back here when you are done."

You try to go down the hall slowly, to catch more of their conversation, but the floor chirps at your every step, not helping your already poor hearing understand anything said. You can't believe you didn't notice the birdy floor earlier.
So with some frustration and a lot of unsatisfied curiosity, you stop trying and just go get changed.

While changing is almost mechanical for you, you have to admit to two things.
First, you took a minute to admire yourself in the mirror. You still quite like yourself.
You could change sizes whenever you want, but you like your natural look.
And second, it's actually a beautiful and spacious japanese styled bathroom. It doesn't quite surprise you, the whole place is like that, but it feels hauntingly empty, like the immense tub in the back of the room forbids you from even thinking about entering alone.
Eerie.

Once you are ready and with your uniform carefully folded on the bag, you return to the living room, to the joyful expression on momma's face and the proud calm of Japan's N°2 Hero.

"I assume you are ready, then." Endeavor says, even before you enter the room, earning a confused nod from you. "Well then, Miss and Mrs. Walker, let us join with Shoto."

And just like that, he stands up and ignites his face. You can't pretend every hair in your body didn't stand on edge, but you just step out of the doorway and wait for your mother to follow, walking beside her.

While you aren't sure that this will go right, momma's hand on your shoulder gives you both a sense of confidence and of pressure.

Turns out that behind the house and the pretty garden behind that was a clearing, easily forty yards square.

And there, on the edge of the clearing and leaning against a slightly scorched tree with his arms crossed, is Shoto.

>"Now, I believe the rules will need some adjusting. Without a mock-bomb to capture and make escaping a valid tactic, the fight will be until one of you can't move or surrenders." Endeavor says, scratching his flaming beard as if it was no big deal. "Shoto, you know where to stand. Young Walker, you will start at the opposite side of the clearing."

>"Don't rough him up too badly, hun!" Momma says, waving her hand at a stump and shrinking it down to a good sitting height.

"Try to have fun, it's just a sparring match!" You tell Shoto as you assume your position.

>"Yes, one in which a slip from either of us could end up causing major harm to the other!" He replied from his position.

"Good thing we don't make mistakes, then!" You joke, stretching a bit and waiting for whatever signal Endeavor decides to use.

>"That looks good enough." The hero suddenly says. "START! Don't hold back!"

>What do you do?

Well we're here to demonstrate our strength. Shrinking is our best offense. Increased but not max size will help us with closing the gap and leave us with some wiggle room.

>[Grow to "Max" size.]

Being small is all well and good while we're being sneaky, but he knows we're here. He'll just freeze the whole area. Trying to dodge an AOE feels like a waste of time.

Similarly, shrinking him while we're big is a waste. Endeavor's rules say all we need to do is immobilize him, so grabbing him at full size will do that just fine.
>>
>>2361459
>>2361488
Staying back feels like a bad idea because he has more range than us. He doesn't WANT to get close to us, so waiting for him to do it seems bad.

And that's both adorable and, honestly, refreshing. Iida's sheer lack of guile is what makes him a likeable character, and something I could easily see Ushi finding refreshing after the years of guys wanting to touch the cow (and do it now).
>>
>>2362254
Shoto is a true gentleman though, and a much better personality fit for Ushi though.

Iida has a stick too far up his ass for a good relationship, but removing it removes part of what makes him endearing.

>Shoto is
Shoto is yet to express any romantic interest in Ushi.
Iida, meanwhile, HAS expressed an interest, as has Kaminari.
Honestly, Kaminari's the one to beat right now in the Ushibowl.
>>2362269
>Iida has a stick too far up his ass for a good relationship, but removing it removes part of what makes him endearing.
Oh look, it's THIS argument again. I said it last time and I'll say it again. Iida is not the inherently super-uptight individual you seem to think he is, and Ushi has not acted like the crazy rebel you're assuming she is.
Iida's an awkward but decent kid, who defaults to "Da Rurus" as a means of dealing with situations where he doesn't know what to do. If he was as uptight as you're assuming, he'd never have decided to break *all* the rules, go full vigilante after a serial murderer, solo, while not licensed to do so. But he did. When the chips were down, he defaulted to his personal sense of justice over those rules he usually leans on.
And as for Ushi, she's just a pretty normal kid, when it comes to the rules. She favors her own personal sense of justice, but still recognizes the value of the rules most of the time. If she was some crazy rebel, she'd probably have left the man who tried to murder her and her friends, and scarred her for life in the process, at a size where he'd spend his life running from small housepets to avoid being eaten.
They deal with their issues differently, but they're not actually all that unalike.
Both are not that great at socialization. Ushi relies on being a tease to keep the upper hand in social situations, because it helped her deal with being The Cow.
Iida relies on being a Model Japanese High School Student (tm) in social situations because he's an awkward dork, who probably adopted said behavior early in life in order to avoid being ostracized in a country where, socially, the nail that sticks up gets hammered down.
Both are Jungian personas. That is to say,
"a kind of mask, designed on the one hand to make a definite impression upon others, and on the other to conceal the true nature of the individual"
-C. G. Jung, Two Essays on Analytical Psychology (London 1953) p. 190
If we want to see what's really going on, we have to look at the things that crack the persona. Outbursts, behavior under stress, et cetera. This will reveal the things they truly value.
The biggest one is family. Family above basically everything else. For both of them.
Ushi had her little outburst on the date with Denki when she thought he was being a disrespectful cuss to his family. And when in doubt, she consistently turns to momma for advice.
As for Iida, his motivation to *be* a Hero is to continue the proud family legacy. He constantly measures himself against his elder brother. And the thing that gets him to behave in a manner completely different than the face he usually presents to the world, the thing that damn near shatters the mask for a brief time, is a threat to that core value of "family".
>>
>>2362780
Dude, I want Iida to win too, but ironically there's no need to get so autistic about it.

My reasons are simple, they're a cute couple and the dynamic between them is entertaining.
>>
>>2362792
But Shoto would also make a cute couple, and they has a much more synergistic dynamic.
>>
>>2362792
Damn straight. Honestly I think Iida suits Ushi best personality wise. Shoto and Denki may be boyfriend material but Iida's definitely husband material.
>>
>>2362792
Look, I just figured I'd detail WHY I think anon's assertion of them being "too different" is more wrong than Roman Polansky's romantic tastes, rather than just asserting that it is with nothing behind it.
>>
>>2362802
>>2362804
>>2362812
It's high school, we can definitely have relationships that don't work out. I want Iida to win but all the choices presented so far are good ones.

I don't actually find Shoto and Ushi's dynamic entertaining so much as just kind of touching, which is just a little bit lower in what I want but still pretty great.

Denki is perfect "first boyfriend".
>>
>>2362812
Iida is very earnest though. He presents himself mostly as how he is though. We can see that with his flashbacks to when he was a kid, too young to really build up much of a facade. He was a stickler for the rules, and even his brother thought he was robotic. Digging deeper, you won't find much different, at least not to the scale you seem to expect.
>>
>>2362849
Iida IS very earnest, but the persona is not a conscious construct in most individuals. It's something that we form without realizing it, from the parts of our Self we are most comfortable with others seeing, as a means of facing the world without exposing the depths of the Self to every person we meet.
Iida *is* earnest, and a bit of a stickler for the rules. But not to so great a degree as it might at first seem.
Just like how (to borrow an example from a vidya series whose whole schtick is writing characters based on Jungian psychology) Kanji Tatsumi IS the tough guy who fights whole biker gangs for fun and wields folding chairs, lunch trays, and other assorted random crap as weapons to fight crazy supernatural bullshit, but he is ALSO the sensitive dude who likes sappy romantic comedies and sewing and shit.
Iida's fixation on the rules COMES from somewhere, and I feel like the Hero Killer arc reveals that that place is a strong sense of justice, that does not like to be denied.
MOST young children with a similarly strong sense of justice fixate on rules, because in their simple world view, those rules ARE justice. Iida's 'tism just means it's taking him longer to move past that stage and recognize that there's more to justice than just the rules.
>>
>>2362976
Except that involves forcing your sense of morality onto him. if he believes that he lives in a just society, and so its rules are just, it's not really your place to force him to think of justice differently for the sake of "improvement"

You also seem to think that everyone has some hidden self they keep hidden from the world, when in fact it's entirely possible that he is who he presents himself as, and that your belief that there must be something more is mere wishful thinking on your part.
>>
>>2362996
I'd argue the setting and the story bear my statement about justice out. I'd even say it's a theme of the series that, just because something isn't against the rules, that doesn't mean it's right.
The big example would be Endeavour basically PURCHASING a woman for the sole purpose of bearing him a powerful heir. The way he did it wasn't technically illegal, but it was NOT just or right. Other minor examples would be all the heroes in it for selfish and petty reasons, like Mount Lady. There's a reason Stain exists as a twosted mirror of Deku, after all. Writers don't do that shit by accident. Iida seems like the kind of person who would take that kind of abuse of the rules as a personal affront to his sense of morality.
Justice is complicated, and that seems to me like a central theme of the manga.
>You also seem to think that everyone has some hidden self they keep hidden from the world
So you tell every new person you meet what your fetishes are? You blurt out every mean thought you have about people? Of course not. We behave in ways that are socially acceptable. People often won't speak out in groups, for fear of being ostracized. It's why the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory exists. But it's also why the Strangers On A Train effect exists. You keep fixating on this mistaken idea that the persona as a conscious LIE, but it's not. It IS who we are, but it's the parts that we allow outside observers to see. Very few people actively lie about who they are. They just, don't let other people see everything. I'm not saying that everyone's secretly Patrick Bateman. I'm not saying Iida's secretly a rebel at heart. I'm saying that the term "oversharing" exists for a reason.
To bring this all back around, Iida IS an earnest kid, and he DOES believe in the rules for the most part, but you're ignoring the "why" of it all to just dismiss it as "he's got a stick up his ass" and claim that him becoming less up tight would make him any less "Iida." He believes in the rules because he believes in justice. His character development over the course of the manga will likely lead to him STILL believeing in the rules, but simply being less comically reliant on them for everything. Able to recognize that the rules are as imperfect as anything else, but concluding that they're the best game running and unless somebody comes along with some changes that make sense, he'll stick with them.
His mask is pretty damn similar to his true self. It's just a fuzzy picture where you can't make out all the little details. And that's how most people's personae are.

The clearing isn't large enough for you to not be able to cross it from side to side in a couple of seconds at full sprint.

And that's at your normal size.
You have no doubt that you can reach him in one fell swoop if you enlarge yourself, even if he just stands in place.

You can't help but feeling a certain level of enthusiasm at the sparring match against your friend.

Getting to show off in front of your momma feels pretty great, and no matter the reason, a simple scrap always feels invigorating. All three times you've actually fought.

Anyway, you think it could be better.
Shoto is one of the few people in your class you are uncertain about your ability to beat on a one on one combat like this.

But if his expression is any indication, and you've gotten a knack to read those small twitches of emotion, he's not exactly going to try.

It is honestly a bit insulting, but you know his contempt isn't meant for you.

"You could try to have some fun, man!" You tell him, bringing your left hand to your thigh. "Come on, give it your all! No need to go soft with me!"

>"I fail to see how beating you up is meant to be funny." He replies, raising his guard, but not giving you any other tell.

"Well, that's easy!" You answer, quickly activating your quirk.

While max size would make you amazingly strong and make your hide as tough as steel, it would also make you pretty slow and you can't afford that against someone with ranged capabilities.

Thus, you opt for a more manageable size, the same thirteen feet you used last time you fought Shoto. You even ride the momentum your sudden growth caused by pressing your now massive legs against the ground to close in the distance even faster.

"Now you got to try and actually do it!" You shout at him, lunging with an open hand ready to grasp his arm.

>"It would not be too hard." He calmly replies, throwing his arms in your direction.

It almost feels like a surrender, as you know he knows that you only need to make contact to win, but before you manage to close your hand around his arm, a wall of ice materializes around your hand and wrist, forcing you to keep your hand open, while a twin burst of ice went up your arm, covering your right arm and part of your torso in solid ice.

>"Whenever you try going above your normal size, your movements get imprecise and sloppy." Shoto comments.

You are cold.
Really cold.
But only cold, not unlike having an icecube dropped into your cleavage.
.
...Terribly uncomfortable, but not painful, nor immobilizing.

You look down at yourself and smirk.

Sure, he anticipated your movements, and was able to stop you…
But most of his ice is just keeping your arm still, and the blast that is making you uncomfortably pointy just did that, not managing to actually freeze through your tough hide.

He's on the defensive.

You prepare to flex your way out of your bindings and briefly look to your two spectators.

As expected, momma looks nervous, while Endeavor looks…
You aren't sure of it's disappointed or just curious.

"I think is fast enough, you barely raised that in time!" You reply to Shoto, forcing your arm to move within its ice shell, shattering it.

He doesn't seem surprised, in fact, you could swear you saw the shadow of a smile pass across his face while he slides a few yards away.

"Come on, Mister recommended student!" You taunt him, tracking him with your eyes and making your own version of a boxer's cross arm block, grasping your own arm. "Shouldn't you be trying to be the best hero you can be?"

A quick glance back to the parents tells you that Momma is really happy, although the ringing of her bell as she raises her arms and cheers for you had already told you that.
You can also see Endeavor smirk, for reasons you don't actually know about.

>"I am!" Shoto answers, standing still once more. "I am doing everything I can to be a proper hero!"

>What do you do?

>[Close in and try to shrink him down.]

True, but two things.
That's him pulling out all the stops on the ice.

You are giving your best!
Momma is watching, and you can't allow Shoto or his father to think you are weak!
Thus, you can't help but feel fairly insulted at your friends apparent indifference at your effort.

There he is, almost at arm's reach, ready for you to come at him.
Sure, he's reading your movements like a book, but he's already shown that he had trouble keeping up with your speed. Or was he holding back?
Of course he's holding back!
At least half of his quirk is going unused, and you don't even know how powerful his right side is!

"Is that so!? "everything you can"!? Then why are you holding back!?" You shout at him, lumbering closer. Being this close, you won't need the boost from your size shifting to reach him in less than a second. "Stop patronising me, Shoto! You are barely giving it your 50%!"

>"Less." He replies, looking rather sad but not relaxing his posture. "Less than half."

"I said stop it dang it!" You shout as you lounge at him, confident in your ability to outspeed him.

You are pretty sure this is the first time you are actually angry at Shoto.
He sighed.
You asked him to not hold back and he is still doing it. You asked him to stop patronising you and he just sighs.

>"Alright." He says, quickly raising his hands to meet your lunge. "I can only hope you will not be mad."

You can see the blur of the enormous mass of ice and frost rushing to meet you as you reach for his face, but you can't stop your momentum, and you don't really want to, either.

The ice catches your arm once more, but you manage to push through this time.

Even as the ice solidifies around your hands and arms and starts quickly numbing you from the shoulders down, you make an attempt to connect with him.

You are too slow to actually grab his head as you were aiming to, but in his attempt to step back he made a "fatal" mistake, raising an arm to cover his face.

And to his left arm you clamp, taking the last second of feeling in your arm to hold him in place, and hanging from his arm, like a cute defenseless toy.

Any kind of thoughts you may have about the situation are instantly rocked however, as Shoto's ice doesn't simply encases your arms from palms to shoulders, but keeps advancing forwards, encasing your neck, and most of your head, barely sparing your face.
While it all happened in the span of a couple of seconds, your attacks have big and clear effects.

You feel like you are living the worst winter of your life, with your head feeling foggy and slow, telling you to grab a bite and go to sleep the cold away and not being able to feel your hands, or your elbows for that matter, with your whole arms feeling like sandbags.

You aren't sure that you got the worst of it though, as Shoto is at that tiny size that can easily fit in your palm and while your fingers themselves aren't encased, you are barely holding him with the grip strength of your fingers alone.

He himself looks pretty frosty too, not covered with thick casts of ice as you are, but fully covered in frost.

You can barely turn your neck, and do so with the cracking of breaking ice, but manage to get a glimpse of your audience of two.

Momma has not stopped cheering, but is standing at the edge of the clearing and holding both of her hands curled into fists in front of her face, her ears high and her tail wrapped around her thigh. Knowing her, that should be both fear and… happiness? You aren't sure, your head feels full of molasses.

You hadn't felt like this since Dark Shadow smacked you across the head.

Endeavor on the other hand looks… interested? Unlike momma, you don't have years of memories of his expressions to draw from, but you are fairly sure he's invested in the match. That's good, right?

>"I-is t-that better?" Shoto asks, glancing down to the now proportionally huge drop from your hand and swinging his other arm.

>What do you do?

Seconding
>>
>>2365718
First off, I don't think we even can draw out Shoto's fire right now. There's insufficient stakes at this moment to overcome the emotional obstacles. The daddy issues are just compounded by the fact that he probably trusts/cares about Ushi too much to risk it. Second, I don't think it's a good idea for us to draw out the fire like this in the first place. Ushi's pyrophobic and for good reason. Helping Shoto is all well and good, but we're not Deku and we have ways of helping him that don't involve getting a face full of fire.
>>
>>2365765
I'm not actually concerned about getting him to set us on fire, I'm more annoyed that he by his own admission isn't even giving us 50%. And we're thinking of tapping out! Even though he's admitted he's not even trying!

I know he's probably doing it out of affection, but I'm infuriated. It's like he likes us, but doesn't respect us.
>>
>>2365765
It's not about drawing out the fire now. It's about beating the ice. If we want him to respect us we have to prove we are not equal to him holding one hand behind his back.
So we beat him now, and make him surrender.
>>
>>2365771
>by his own admission isn't even giving us 50%

He did up the ice to max (I think) after we told him to actually try.
>>
>>2365775
Did you see what he did to Sero? I very much doubt he's at max.
>>
>>2365778
Then why do you want to call a draw? It's insulting to submit when he's only giving us a fraction of a fraction of his best.
>>
>>2365784
Because in a real fight he'd be stuck as a midget for the rest of his life.
>>
>>2365774
Ah, I was jumping ahead a step. I see what you mean, but I don't want either us or Shoto to get actually hurt in some sparring match when we have the festival to look forward to yet. We can get serious then.
>>
>>2365787
So we're winning. Why ask for a draw, when we can just get him to surrender?
>>2365794
We're not going to get hurt if he just submits. We have him in our grasp, and he's small. If he's smart, he'd surrender. We pretty much won this, its only a matter of getting him to admit it.
>>
>>2365807
Sounds like overconfidence to me. We shrunk Shoto, but got fucked up pretty bad in the process. Right now, not losing is more important than winning, so a draw is good enough to make our point.
>>
>>2365843
He's in our grasp, we have a several foot reach advantage, and he has no leverage. We are very close to winning, as we can prevent him from getting his next shot off by putting him in a pin.
>>

I think he's at his full 50% (100% ice), because he said he'd stop holding out right?
>>
>>2365887
I think he's increasing his ice %, but he's far below what he's shown at the sports festival with just ice.
>>
>>2365887
Yeah, but he didn't make any giant ice mountains. So he's still holding back. So we have to beat some respect into him.

By actually winning this fight.
>>
>>2365450
>[He can't dish another hit like that! Demand his surrender!]
At this point, we're close to winning and we have the high ground. Try and ask him to surrender while jokingly pointing out that Big will dislike it.

>>2365899
Well it's something. Just needbye out how to deal with the cold and heat later on.

Have a wall of questions

>Would anyone consider using the remaining (are we still at four free ones?) relationship dice on a villain? Not for romance sake, but for friendship?
https://youtu.be/Xl91v2Mvv94
>This scene gave me fuzzy feelings.

>Will grandpa / uncle ocelot ever pay a visit?

>Cousin Chloe: what is her quirk?

>Who do we know can Upgrade Tiny Tin? Besides the teacher that I can't recall the name of? Should we get a #2 bot too? What about a #3?
>Has anyone else considered finding someone to modify Tiny Tin so he has +2-3 extra wheels for additional stability, and a pair of hands?

>Are we still going to get the revolver for 20000?

>Has anyone ever considered getting Cementhead a present? It's never an easy job repairing stuff, maybe sometimes even a thankless one.
>>
>>2365906
No don't tell him to do it to make his dad angry.
We want him to be more independent, which means no doing things because Endeavor will like it, but also no doing things just because Endeavor will dislike it. If Shoto is to grow, he has to stop letting himself be controlled by his father.

Asking for his surrender is fine though
>>
>>2365910
>If the villain is endearing enough and willing to try to be a better person, i'd be willing to. Or at least a relationship die to "redemption"

>i don't know

>Chloe can take up animal traits. Forget the name

>Hatsume Mei could do it. Other Support class people. Powerloader is the teacher

>probably not

>maybe after the Sports fest, when we see exactly how much he has to fix.

Looking at the foot tall boy hanging from your hand, you smile.
It's more of a predatory grin, really. It goes well with the puffs of steam coming out of your nose.

Sure, you aren't doing great, the inside of your head feels like it's full of cotton and your arms are completely numb, but he looks like two snowflakes short of a snowman and tiny enough to fit in your pockets.

"I told ya I could take, didn't I?" You tell him, managing to twitch your shaking fingers open and letting him fall to the dirt bellow.

Sure, the fall may rattle him a bit, maybe even bruise something, but it shouldn't be anything major.

Even as he falls nearly ten times his new height, he manages to roll on his back and bleed most his momentum off before tripping on a pebble and face planting against the floor.

He wastes no time on turning back and face you once more, just in time to see you slide your foot over the ground and softly lowering the tip of your boot over his body.

Sweet, sweet victory!

"I can hold my own against you! And win fair and square to-!" You start boasting, right as a last blast of frost, smaller and slower that any of the previous ones hits you cleanly in the face, forcing you to quickly close your eyes before the climbing ice reaches them.

You can feel the frost connecting with the already present ice covering you and joining it to encase your whole head, even getting most of your hair to blow back and stay that way.

That's the small stuff though. You can't breathe with both your mouth and nose covered in ice, and coordinating things as simple as standing upright got suddenly difficult, as your own consciousness starts to slip out of your grip.

You can't see nor breathe, everything feels cold and you can't even claw at your face.

You can feel the icy claw of fear grasping at your frantic heart, beating like a jackhammer within it's wooden cage.

But instead of giving in to panic, you exhale. You plan on dealing with far worse than friendly sparring match on a daily basis, and have done so at least once already.

You were mad at Shoto for pulling his punches, and now that he's actually using half of his power, you are going to freak out?..

Nope.

You need to prove to Shoto that you are equals, that you can take all he can dish out and still pull ahead! You can't just drop and prove him right!

Much less with Momma watching! She would be worried sick if something happened to you!

So without a second thought, you force all the hot air and steam you can out of your nose, melting a thin layer of the ice directly under it. It's just barely enough to breathe, but you don't need anything more.

You can feel what you think is a human torso beneath the very tip of your boot, but you aren't completely sure. And since the only way to check you can think of right now is pressing with your current bodyweight and feeling if it breaks like a sugarcube or bursts like a ketchup packet, you are fine not knowing.

You either won or not, moving without seeing is a sure way to cause collateral damage, maybe even killing one of your friends.

So, you stay still wait for either your mother or Shoto's father to step in.

After a few seconds of awkward waiting, you feel yourself being shrunk back to normal and caught in a princess carry, receiving a strong yet soft motherly hug.
Pretty much what you were waiting for, really.

You only wish momma had the control required to make the ice stuck to you fall off, but it's better she doesn't try shrinking only you and leaving your clothes out along with the ice.

A sudden nigh scorching heat wave hits you soon after, thinning the ice enough for you to break it under your own power.

Being able to see and hear once more would have been a much nicer experience if the first thing you heard and saw wasn't Endeavor's burning palm less than a foot away from your face.

"That was amazing hun!" Your mother says the moment you shatter your glacial helmet. "And quite scary too... I wouldn't ever try to step on anyone, but I guess you can do that with toes!"

You are happy that she is, but you can't quite enjoy the hug with the open flame so close.
It's unnerving.

>"Before you go rest on your laurels, you should undo what you did to Shoto." The hero says, pulling back his hand. "Then we will discuss why you shouldn't at all."

You can see him scowl as he points behind him with his thumb, to his now twelve inches tall son now walking towards you.

While there's still some large patches of frost covering him, you can see how he gets limber with every step, as the ice melts and sizzles.

You lazily blink at the imposing stature of the N°2 Hero of Japan and turn around, quickly nuzzling your mom's neck before hopping off her arms.

>"Hun, are you okay?" She asks, sounding decisively concerned. "...I gotta get you a towel."

Without answering, you walk your way to your shrunken friend.

With the ice falling apart, is obvious that the worst thing that happened to him in the fight was the frost itself, with the scrape on his face being a close second.

Beyond how numb everything feels, and how hard is it to think beyond which foot are you placing in front of the other, you are fairly unscathed too.

He's still tiny, and your hair and shirt are still soaking wet with warm water from the melting ice but that's just minutiae.

>"I am sorry if I went overboard." Shoto says when you get close enough. "I just did not want to harm you on a spa-..."

You just crouch and tilt your head, blinking slowly. Left, then right.
It's still not quite eye level, and he's no longer looking at you, but you can just reach and touch him now, bringing him back to his natural size in an instant, right in front of you.

It gives you a clear view of his belt. Now that you can see it clearly, you should get him a new buckle. None are as cool as gramp's BAMF, but he can do better than a simple steel buckle.

You can't look at it too much though, as he quickly takes a step back.

>"Are you alright?" Shoto asks, looking at your eyes.

As your tongue feels like it's filling your entire mouth, you just shrug.

He stops and looks at you for a second before walking back and placing his left hand on your back, right between your shoulders.

>"Even in spring, you will catch a cold if you stay like that." He says.

In the blink on an eye, the water on your shirt becomes delightfully warm and steamy, as the water quickly evaporates away.

"Moo." You let out as you relax in your own mini-sauna.

>"...What?" He asks, pulling back his hand and looking at you with alarm.

...Fuck.

"No… n-nothing?" You answer, clumsily reaching up and pulling your hat down to hide yourself.

>"While that was… endearing, I believe we should move on to an analysis already." Endeavor says as he approaches, his mouth a tight line, not a scowl anymore, but not happy.

You quickly stand up, looking not at the hero as you do but at your mother walking behind him. With her hand over her face and her tail swinging from side to side, you have no doubts that you did something.

>"A fight of great quirks wielded by boneheaded children." Endeavor summarises, staring down at both of you. "Now, I know young Walker didn't have any tutors before, but I believe you know what you did, Shoto."

>"Holding back." His son answers in a tone that, as a fellow teenager, you recognize as the "Shut up already" tone.

>"Yes… Even more than usual. You could have won if you took initiative and took her by force in that first exchange." The hero says, pointing at you. "She has prodigious resilience, or she wouldn't even be conscious. At a larger size, she could shrug off those parlor tricks you use to avoid frostbite... Instead of just balancing your quirk."

Even now, you can feel the bile dripping from those words.

He then points at you and momma's eyes seem to light up. Who does she think is receiving the critique?

>"And you. You won, but I want to make it clear that if this wasn't a mock battle, you both would have died." He says, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Inhuman toughness and a disabling touch are part of what you can do, not everything. I could, and I would blab on about that crippling tunnel vision of yours… if you were one of my sidekicks or interns. Right now, for a freshman of U.A, you are up to standards."

You aren't sure if that was a compliment or an insult.

Momma sure seems to think it's the former though.
Gone is the embarrassment of minutes ago, she looks so proud that you'd think you were graduating, not not-failing.

>"Being sufficient is no reason to slack though, you have years of skills to catch up to." The hero continues. "Shamble on to the training room, you two."

>"I want you to teach her how to dodge, Shoto." He says, looking down at both of you, but mainly at his son. "Use the bokken, not the shinai or neither of you will learn anything. And don't go soft on her, I'll keep an eye on the cameras."

Before standing up, he takes an instant to quickly place a hand on top of your heads and quickly ruffle your hair.

You are just dumbfounded, but Shoto looks dead inside.

>"Now, Katsumi and I have some pleasant tea to get back to, so please carry on your instructions." Endeavor says turning around and walking towards his home.

>"I don't want to sound ungrateful or anything…" Momma says, grabbing her tail and playing with the fluff on the tip. "But Ushi doesn't look all... there. Maybe she could continue next time? And your boy could use some alcohol on that scrape."

>"Katsumi." The hero says, stopping on his tracks. "It's what's best for her career, and Shoto is well accustomed to treating to his own wounds. Now walk with me."

>"Yes… Y-yes, sure, you know best of these things." She says, following him.

Yet, she takes one last look back.
