Deep under the lunar surface in a chamber left unscathed by the Empires attack knelt the Void Disciple in silent meditation. A faint covering of ultraviolet flames wash over the newly repaired armor along with ripples of Voidlight, the undead quietly reflecting on their recent battle against the Imperial Deathshead Guardians. Their forces had been formidable and had nearly slain their sibling Disciples in their attempts to defile the holy Temple of the Void, but their mind dwelt upon the Deathshead that had faced off against them before the very doors of the temple.

As its thoughts wandered to the strange artifact of Void-infused bone polished until it shimmered with strange alien hues the Voidflames around their form flare momentarily before calming themself once more. It had been transferred to the safety of the burning world closest to the red sun where Think Tanks studied it in their efforts to pry secrets from the relic. In their short time in possession of it however the Disciple had learned a glimpse of its true nature.

Within it's weave of bone and Void it seemed to amplify and enhance the resonant powers of whichever Void wielder that held it. This much was apparent from the strength of the Deathshead but within it the Disciple had heard echoes, whispers, drifting through the song of the Void. It was no singular voice however, consisting of more than just the echoed soul of an osjiic. Somewhere in this barely heard whisper the Disciple had heard a voice calling out with an unknown language.

This mystery intrigued the Disciple but they knew they could not decipher it without further access to the relic after the Think Tanks completed their experiments.

The door to the chamber slides open suddenly, the slats unweaving to show the frame of Voidknight Jareth standing there. Reconstructed and healed the Voidknight gives a nod as the Disciple bows with a salute before standing and donning their helm, "Disciple, accompany me to the prison. We must interrogate our guests," he says with a dark chuckle and turns to walk away.

The Disciple quickly follows the Voidknight and falls in line with the other two Disciple that had already joined him. Quickly they made their way deeper into the Temple to where the captured Deathshead Guardians awaited their interrogation.

"Aha! I knew it! Found one!"

The crew of smugglers look up to where a vorh was clinging to the side of a freighter with a pair of magboots. Eagerly digging in between a cluster of sensors at something with a handheld tool before they yank out an electronic device with a handful of lenses and trailing of wires. Standing horizontally off the hull of the freighter they turn and toss it down to Clud who catches it.

The netu turns the tracker over in his hands before handing it off to someone else and folding his arms across his chest, "Third one on as many ships we've found so far," he says with a disgruntled clack of his beak.

Eigha taps at her datapad then waves a hand dismissively, "What did we expect? Cartel's no doubt interested in finding out where our source is."

"I'll feel better if we get more Legion help," says Buddy where he stood next to them then sips from a packaged drink he'd purchased on Veraga Prime, "That other Cartel will likely take another shot at us right?"

"Undoubtedly. Though if Rethak doesn't want to spare any more Legionnaires for us, we could try hiring out some Pirates," Clud says and turns to look out at the base that served as a small town for the Dagger Clan on Myrshyn, "There would be plenty of those friendly to the Armada willing to help out for a cut."

The freighters and the Wick were parked on a flattened shelf just above the settlement, the smoke from fires and workshops lifting into the air above the buildings as the clouds roiled overhead. It seemed only moments away from another shower, the ground still wet from the most recent rains.

"Old friends of yours perhaps?" Eigha asks curiously.

The former pirate shrugs, "Maybe. I know some that would be worth hiring on if we could track em down but I'd almost feel better keeping just the Legion involved."

Buddy drains the last of the juice from the plastic bag then crumples it up and shoves it into a pocket for disposal later, "Yeah, it'd be best we talk with the "Boss" or Jor before we start hiring outside help," he pulls the datastick containing the broadcast from Restricted Advice from the same pocket and tosses it up and down in his palm before looking to the other two, "Think the Boss will actually show up on their show?"

It was the vorhs turn to shrug as she looks up from the datapad, "If he's cocky enough maybe. Probably just send Jor or one of those creepy Harbingers."

The human nods and looks at the datastick for a few more moments before pocketing it and walking off to help search the rest of the ships for more trackers and recorders the Cartel may have hidden.

Nah, just keep it inside the ship at all times except for things like the interview. Also we can modify it to be more human size, pick something wear and presto! Harbinger incognito! If anyone notices
and asks the crew just tells them its the classic "creepy" guy that hardly says anything and never takes him helm off. On the plus side we could accelerate our research on reconstructed developing personalities by his constant interaction with the crew.

On Rukor your Harbinger stood before the council of elders in the ructus capital. Torches and recently installed crystal illumination provided the large chamber moderate soft light that caused the complex mosaics that decorated the domed ceiling to glint and reflect the light. The complex array of mirrors and lenses that the ructu had made themselves lay at rest at the apex of the dome now that the sun had set, experience letting you know that it caught the sunlight and filled the chamber with natural light during the daylight hours.

The elders look to the Harbinger now, after repeating their requests and pleas they had made of Jor. The Reconstructed puppet taps its chin with a finger in thought, a habit carried through as your mind occupied its form. Finally it gives a nod before speaking with your voice, "Your requests are not unreasonable and I believe they can be fulfilled of course.

"You speak of wishing to sail the sea of stars, just as you once sailed the seas of your Mother Rukor. I can assist in this. The Armada can provide vessels and training, allowing the ructu people to explore this vast new frontier. There is much we still do not know about this galaxy, even in my vast age, not every star or port has been explored. We would gladly provide this aid to you. There are members among the Armada who would no doubt gladly join you in these travels if you would welcome them."

The elders perked up as you spoke, looking to each other before nodding. The elder sporting the geometrically carved chitin speaking, "And we would gladly welcome them. The strength of a crew is the strength of a ship and those in your Armada have proven themselves capable friends of the Ructu."

"We will discuss the responsibilities of these grand explorers in depth as we prepare, but they would extend beyond just sailing from star to start, cataloging the path. There will be worlds and moons and wonders beyond counting that must be explored and examined and that will be their responsibility. For the pursuit of knowledge is one of the core facets of my Armada," the Harbinger says, gently pressing a hand to its chest.

Another elder nods, mandibles bent from an old injury giving a slight lisp to their words, "It has long been a core truth to the ructu as well. Knowledge must flow and we must explore and learn."

"As for your request to join my Necrolyte Legion and the wider Armada, I would be making a grave mistake if I denied this. I will have Commander Rethak have his officers begin recruitment and finding roles for those who volunteer to join. I make no illusion however, joining the Legion will be fraught with constant danger and peril but the chance to make a difference in the galaxy is a strong calling I am eager to foster in those who follow me and believe in the Wormstars Truth," you say, the eyeless gaze of the Harbinger looking to each elder in turn.

"The people of Rukor have much to offer to my Armada and Legion. You have already placed great faith in me and the capabilities of the Armada to protect this world and its children. Together, we can make each other stronger, and I believe the potential of the ructu will only continue to grow," the Harbinger says with your voice, "No more will the Ahkam think you are easy prey, no, you and the stonestar they once tried to enslave as well, have proven time and again that those who dwell in this system will no longer bow down to them or any oppressor."

There is some applause throughout the chamber as the ructu, many of them refugees from destroyed nearby villages, slammed their hands or cups against the tables in front of them until the elders call for silence with raised hands. The one who wore the jaws of a krysser around its neck nods to the undead, "It is becoming ever clearer that the fate of Rukor and her children are entwined with your Armada. We eagerly look forward to what this path may bring us, Lord Jadyk. We shall rest this night, but then we shall begin." his words were followed by another round of applause as the Harbinger bows then slides back to the shadows, your mind already moved onto other matters.

Seated upon your throne in the Charnel Vault you let crackles of Arc energy play across your indigo chitin, the black metal of Kyn'tk mimicking the effect as it slithers like some primal serpent across your form in a moment of relaxation. You glance ahead to where a holoscreen displayed other matters that still required your attention.

Ruscuv and Valresko were still traveling at sublight speeds to their designated stop and would contact you upon their arrival.

A message is sent from the ships ferrying the Solar Arbiters and Sur-Quro, stating they had dropped out of FTL themselves and were traveling toward the Nebula Wall and the spacecity of Barqalan with their Pirate escort. The fleet of ships sent was small, deployed before the commencement of the Ahkam invasion, but you knew this task was to be the first test of the Arbiters trained by the yuyut and Dominator Valresko. They traveled at sublight, stating they would report in once they drew closer to their destination. You look briefly through the eyes of the lead ship and took a moment to soak in the sight of the immeasurably vast nebula that stretched out before them. Even at this distance its vastness made it look deceptively close, its serene facade hiding a dangerous web of newborn and dying stars and rogue planetoids.

Commander Rethak awaited your attention concerning the Blackscales plans to infiltrate a Confederate science lab.

Jareth sends word as well, asking if you would like to participate or watch when they began their interrogation of the captured Deathshead Guardians.

The governing body of the Refuge system still waits to hear from someone in a leadership position with the Armada, wishing to discuss the future of the system hidden in a much calmer and smaller nebula.

There is a notice that the serpent Vil'cva had arrived by Arc Relay in the system, marking the first successful travel of the Relays, and was en route to meet with Vle'Karak. The old green serpent was still in his conversation with the Nru'jok in his old prison cell, the captive female's emotions bitter and betrayed but at every hint of aggression the Domination Collars sent warning twinges through her muscles, forcing her to keep her calm.

There was much to do and tend to in your Armada. What shall you do next?

Under the recently changed surface of Legion's Home the fortress that trained the Necrolytes spread out like a hive within the mountains and crust of the frozen planet. Within chamber that held a large round table dominating the floor Commander Rethak spoke with several of his officers while holoscreens were projected from the surface. They discussed many topics, ranging from casualties sustained on Rukor during the Invasion, to the tasks of those within the Refuge system, to the training of new recruits gained from Kanda's population.

From a corner of the room drifted forward a Harbinger, the conversation between the mixed members of the Legion fell silent as they turned to salute with heads bowed, relaxing when the undead gives a respectful bow of their head as well. It spoke with your voice issuing from its jaws, the crown of polished obsidian above its brow glinting with the light of the holoscreens, "Let me begin by congratulating you all. I am proud of your defense of this world and Rukor. The Refuge system as well has you all and those you trained to thank for their salvation."

Commander Rethak bows his head in thanks, "Gratitude, Lord Jadyk. The Legion exists to serve."

"And it serves wonderfully, so far," the Harbinger says and it's empathic sensors detect satisfaction and happiness within each of the officers, even the heavily scarred osjiic veterans. The Harbinger turns its eyeless gaze to Rethak, "You wished to speak with me?"

With a nod Rethak motions to the officers who salute before turning to leave the chamber although one stays behind. The vorh you recognized as Officer Dretst, a former commander in the Confederate Navy and one of the original officers of the Legion's formation.

The Harbinger bows its head to her then, "Officer Dretst, you in particular I must thank for defending Legion's Home. Without your guidance the results would have been grave."

Giving a respectful bow she clicks her mandibles, "I only did what was required of me, Lord Jadyk. I'm certain the Think Tanks would have done just as well."

"Do not sell yourself short, Dretst. My Think Tanks may be quite intelligent but they lack the imagination and experience in battle that you and the Legion bring," the Reconstructed puppet looks back to the Immortal osjiic, "You have something to report concerning the Blackscale?"

"Indeed," the holoscreens flicker and change at a flick of his wrist, "I spoke with the Blackscale Beqor and Raakah. They've shared what knowledge they've gained about the lab along with their base plans," he shakes his head with a chuckle, "Their plans boiled down to little more than sneaking aboard and unleashing chaos with their undead to steal the cache of Sunscale eggs. However, they do appear open to working on a more involved plan involving our Phantom Legionnaires."

"I assume you have some insight into this matter, Officer Dretst?" you ask, looking to the vorh.

She gives a short nod, "Yes. There was a short time in my military career before I joined the Navy that I assisted in covert operations such as this. My knowledge on codes and clearances is no doubt obsolete by now but I've looked over the data sent by the Blackscale and your mysterious benefactor in the Confederate military. I firmly believe our Phantoms would be ideal in infiltrating the lab, either on their own or in addition to the Blackscales forces serving as a decoy for them."

"The lizards told the other Cabal that they've got access to a high-tech and highly valued mercenary company with an interest in Necrotic-tech as our cover until you are ready to reveal your connection, Lord Jadyk. We've already taken the liberty of changing the design aesthetics of our Phantoms gear to something more believable to the Confederation or UON," Rethak gives a sigh as a holoscreen changes to show a photo of a human, epikor, and netu equipped in dark plated armor running down a prefabricated training hall, the form of another human phasing through a nearby wall, "It's drab and boring but it should serve to distance the Armada from the operation should one of them fall or be captured.

"The Blackscale say their cousins wish to speak with someone in the merc company so I elect Dretst to represent me over hologram since," he takes a moment to gesture to his Reconstructed form, "I would raise some questions that we don't have time for if I were to speak to them," he says with a chuckle.

"Indeed," Dretst says with a curt click of her mandibles. She looks to the Harbinger, "We wished to gain your approval in addition to First Necromancer Jor's to deploy the Phantoms for this task. Should you grant it, I am to contact the Blackscale immediately to discuss the planning."

Commander Rethak and Officer Dretst have prepared the Phantoms from the Necrolyte Legion to assist in the Blackscale plot and seek your final approval of their first deployment on a covert mission.

"I trust in your judgement, Commander. I am eager to see the results of these Phantoms you have trained," the Harbinger says, "You have your permission, Officer Dretst."

The vorh gives a salute and a deep bow, "To Death and through it to Eternity," she intones before excusing herself from the room on her way toward a chamber she could contact the Blackscale and begin their plotting. A message is sent, contacting the symbiots implanted in each of the Phantoms, who quickly begin assembling their newly made gear in preparation for their deployment.

The Harbinger looks to Rethak, "I sense you had more you wish to speak to me about."

"You are correct, Lord Jadyk. Mostly about the Confederation. They are our least aggressive neighbors not counting the Armatocere or the Pirate Clans but I do not trust them," he waves a hand and footage from the attack on Clour where a stealth frigate and a seeming group of mercs had attacked and salvaged the remains of slain Reconstructed, assisted or led by an apparent Necromancer, "I doubt this attack was merely the result of an enterprising mercenary band. It stinks of Confederate trickery but I doubt we'll be able to prove it unless we manage to track them down somehow.

"I also heard about the trouble your smuggling operation had on Veraga Prime with a rival Cartel," he says and another holoscreen showing the memories taken from the smugglers during the ambush at the docking pylon, "I will be increasing their guard of Legionnaires when they return with the next shipments. However, they are not particularly why I wished to speak with you."

The holoscreen flicker out and are replaced with an Eyegores view of the busy world of Veraga Prime, "With your blessing, I would like to begin sending out loyal agents of the Armada and Legion to infiltrate and establish covert footholds on Veraga Prime. This would help our smuggling operation stay safe while allowing us to keep closer tabs on the public opinion of the Confederate citizenry. This will likely prove necessary if we do end up taking official control of Refuge, it would be good to see and hear what the populace feel about it and the Armada in general. If you're feeling ambitious we could also attempt to construct a secretive Cauldron planetside but that may be asking for discovery if they have ways to detect Necrotic emissions."

The Immortal Commander stands with their hands clasped behind them, a faint ripple of ambient Voidlight crossing their form as they awaited your judgement of his decision.

Commander Rethak recommends and asks permission to establish a covert foothold of the Necrolyte Legion within Veraga Prime and potentially other Confederate systems.

You did not have to think long on the options presented before the Harbinger gives a short motion with its hand as you spoke through it, "I approve of your suggestions, Rethak. It is past time I begin studying this neighbor of ours. Among those you send with the smugglers are to be your agents in this endeavor. Select whoever you expect will be of use. I am certain among our citizenry and those in the Legion there should be those with useful skills and knowledge of this world. The presence of a Cauldron planetside presents too many risks for the moment however the future may yield suitable locations to establish one."

Rethak gives a salute, "Very well, Lord Jadyk. I will seek help from the Legion in seeing to this task."

"I have faith in this endeavor, Rethak. Having a foothold in the Confederates most populated world in this sector will be of benefit to us," you say through the Harbinger, "By the way, I just spoke with the ructu elders on Rukor. They send their thanks for the Legion's aid in defending them. They have also requested that they be allowed to join the Legion itself, it seems your soldiers have been quite inspiring to them."

Rethak gives a chuckle while folding his arms across his chest, "That is good to hear. They are not the most sturdy of fighters but I know we can find some roles for them."

"Their kind share a natural affinity for the Necrotic, even beyond those with the potential to become Necromancers. With that, their intellect and quick learning will make them ideal for your needs even if they are not to be front-line soldiers," you say, the Harbinger tilting its head curiously as the Immortal gives a short laugh.

"Put them inside a heavy exosuit and they'll do just fine as a front-line soldier," he says then gives a sharp nod, "I will send Officers to begin recruitment in their largest cities."

"Make them worthy of the Legion. They have the potential and only need the opportunity, I believe," you say before the Harbinger bows its head and your mind moves onto other matters.

As your mind returns to focus upon your physical self before moving onto the next issue that required your attention you glance around the cavernous bridge of the Charnel Vault. Your throne was suspended near the center of the chamber, perched on a flimsy looking curved spire of bone. Reconstructed guards of highly advanced Trolls and Stingers stood along the edges, an ever present guard with many equipped with phasic blades designed to cut even the flesh of an ethereal Wraith. Pilots were arrayed through, merged with consoles or free-rotating and swiveling mounts arranged across the walls and floor.

You feel a faint rattling within your ribcage suddenly, glancing down at your torso but a faint whisper of dried, dead leaves against stone lifts your gaze. Throughout the large chamber the dozens of undead were frozen in time and you feel the silence of existing in between the ticks of the cosmic clock.

From your throne you glance about until you see the hunched over figure wrapped in tattered gray robes gliding from between a stack of consoles. Your claws clack along the stone armrest as the entity moves with dry rasping sounds to stand on the platform before your throne. Human hands black with frost reach up and move back the hood, the form underneath the wooden mask of a screaming epikor was the desiccated form of a netu spacing victim.

Its voice rasps inside your skull, a dozen voices of different species and languages somehow overlapping into a coherent thought, "Hail, Lich-Lord and Abomination," it claps it's hands together, either in mock congratulation or sincere, the form shifting between each clap, "It was quite an entertaining spectacle you and your Armada of misfits have put on these last solar cycles. You continue to... impress, Lich-Lord," it says with a bow that would have likely made the mostly acid-melted osjiic it appeared to be snap in half.

"Welcome to my Charnel Vault. I was expecting to see one of you soon," you say with your own mock bow, bladed tail lashing at your side betraying your annoyance.

"Your kind has been rather absent of late, I was beginning to hope, to think you had forgotten me," you say with a dismissive wave of a hand, "But I am sure you did not halt the passage of time to appear before me for simple pleasantries."

The laughter of the Masked in your skull reverberates, the bloated kosda's scales splitting with each movement, "You are far from forgotten. The events that have transpired these last cycles shall have vast repercussions across this portion of the galaxy.

"You have slain a great Matriarch of the Ahkam!" For a brief moment the bridge was suddenly occupied by the vast form of Quantac'Vrix, her torn and shattered wings pinned against her coils and sundered armor, the wooden mask floating in a blasted out eyesocket. A moment later it was a much smaller form of an esat hovering with tattered wings and crumpled eyes peaking out from behind the mask, "A feat that any would consider near impossible, not to mention during the phenomena of the Arc Surge. Not only this, but you have feasted upon the Matriarchs soul and used her very flesh and bones to weave the Arc itself into yourself along side the other powers."

"Yes, I have become this... Abomination you and those Three mentioned," you say with annoyance at the thought of the Three and their ancient Wormstar regalia.

At the mention of the Three the Masked makes a curt gesture with a limb that lacked a hand, the netus stump cauterized as if by thermal blade, "Yes, precisely. What some may call a Perfect Abomination with your attunement of those energies but is a simple title that betrays its complexity. A path of great power and incredible risk, as you will learn.

"You will become a beacon to those who seek such powers, drawing those of great ambition and envy to your Armada," the itru with a broken beak balancing the mask tilts its head, "But you have your grand Necrotic Armada to protect you, do you not? And your "friends" you have gathered."

A stunted tree sprouts within your bridge, its bark blighted and seeping with rot, the mask seemingly grown from its surface, "But I am not here to bring warnings of those future conflict, no, I am here to fulfill a debt.

"Before the Ahkam launched their invasion another of my kin approached, offering you a boon should you survive their violent intentions," the osogo corpse, charged and warped from Void powered weapons, was nearly eye-level with your throne as it looks to you, "You have done more than survive by surpassing your previous limitations, and so I have come.

"Previously my kin offered the opportunity to gain a hint of a possible betrayer, though we have much to offer should you change your mind," the human nearly stripped of all flesh and organs curling broken fingers in your direction, "Tell me, what would you ask of us Masked? What can we offer you in this universe where Knowledge and Power are near synonymous."

The Masked have come, offering a boon. What shall you ask of them?

"Tell me of the entities that escaped the Arc alongside Predator Nekris," you say, leaning back and steepling your claws together.

The half-eaten form of a vorh tilts their head, the wooden epikor mask a poor fit, "Your serpent Vle'Karak spoke of them. Daemons of the Arc, manifesting with spontaneously generated flesh as they took their chance to escape the Arc thanks to your child slicing through the barriers," it's echoing laughter fills your skull, "An unsubtle but undoubtedly effective method of egress.

"Just as your serpent spoke, Daemons are entities that do not exist on the material realms naturally. The simplest of them are chaotic and unpredictable, most often spawning in areas overwhelmed with their natural environment where the barriers are thin or broken, such as it was with the Arc Surge," the form of the Masked shifts from an immolated human into a yuyut run through with at least a dozen broken spears, "Others have been imprisoned against their will or trapped in their elemental planes for their foolishness or as punishments. While others still existed there for countless eons, perhaps born of it.

"You know of the chaotic, the manifestations, but there is a threat to them you will face and this warning is a portion of your boon we offer," once more their body changes, this time into an imperfect imitation of the bizarrely alien form of the Arc Daemon that had manifested before you and Nekris before it shifts to that of a tyrre, its hide charred and marked with distinct Arc burns and it's body blurring behind the mask, "Unbeknownst to your pet wyrm is that it is far more easier for a Daemon to possess the physical shell of a mortal or sometimes even inanimate machinery or material. Look into the histories and you will see, evidence of these Daemon-possessed. The Ahkam know of it as simply Arc madness that afflicts those rare, unfortunate, members of their dynasties."

"And to what end do these Daemon possess the living?" you question, thinking back to times you may have encountered such entities unknowingly.

"Why does a carnivore feast on flesh and blood? Why does a herbivore consume the plant? It is as it is," the flayed stonestar gives a shrug of several limbs, "But know this, Lich-Lord. There exist rituals that can harness these Daemons, trapping them in prepared vessels or within the tortured forms of unwilling hosts. The knowledge of these rituals is closely guarded by those who hold them and are not ours to give out, although, should you wish to barter for the knowledge of who may hold them can be discussed," the dried, near mummified lips of a kesh stretch out morbidly behind the mask, its flesh torn and blasted by sandy winds.

>The Masked have revealed that the entities known as Daemons can possess individuals or certain objects more readily than manifesting physically. They also reveal that there exist certain ritual that can harness and manipulate these Daemons although they are less than forthcoming with it

gonna have to pick this up tomorrow. starting to feel pretty nauseous and hopefully I'll be feeling better tomorrow and we'll have more folks around to question the Masked.

Sorry for the lack of stuff so far this thread but I hope folks are enjoying it somewhat.

For the first time in quite some time you seem to have a Masked willing to share information or offer you a boon for your successes during the Ahkam Invasion and harnessing the Arc Surge to become Arc attuned.

What shall you ask of them?
>Write-in

>>2344967
List of things to ask:
>What do you know of the three who attempted to kill/imprison me?
>What does my current state exactly mean?
>Will the Masked assist me in destroying The Bitch?

I know this stuff isn't as fun or interesting as space battles but I would appreciate some more participation unless this is just not the right night for this with no one around.

>Information about their supposed betrayer

Which would you ask first?

>Ask about the Three and their intentions
We know the least about these.

Seconding. Their past with the Armada is one of the least explained things, and we're not sure whether they're done messing with us now that the arc-demons are out of the bag.

Akka-tor

the other poster brings up an interesting point. Was she possessed? Or did she turn against the Undying Court because she really is that much of a bitch?
>>

Sorry, dropped out for a meeting.

100% On the betrayer. We need to know this shit so we can talk it through with them and either crush them or support them so they don't fuckin betray us

OOOH changing my vote.

If Akka-tor was possessed that would change a lot. She might be still.

>>2345285

My concern is that the info might not be true, and we'd be playing into the Masked's hands by treating them as though they were traitors already. We'd have to be careful how we respond to it.
>>

Seems like there's a tie right now between
>Akka-Tor
>Betrayer

Please select or vote for one.
>>
>>2345377
I know this might seem a little pedantic but unfortunately the Masked require a bit of finesse while talking with them and I want to get something resembling a proper vote when talking with them.

I know this is probably making people not want to play again lol

>>2345377
>Betrayer
Sounds more imminently important.

While you knew that the Masked rarely, if ever, spoke the truth there were still kernels of useful information to be gained from them. They had even returned Kyn'tk to you after one of your first large victories as a returning power. The claws of your fingers tap together for a few seconds as you debated with yourself before motioning to the Sunscale Diver that seemed to be missing a large portion of its face and neck to an impossibly clean cut, "What is this... betrayer you speak of?"

Their voice echoes in your very bones, overlapping and seemingly infinite but understood, "While fate is ever shifting, ever changing, we see causality stretched out before us and we see the patterns, reading the universal mind. Threats of betrayal exist within your Armada and your allies."

The gray-robed osjiic lifts one of its few remaining and thoroughly rotted fingers up, "One such potentiality, an ally of focused rage imprisoned in the corpse of their friend and confidant. How long will they linger in your shadow? They expand and grow with spectacular haste because of your mercy, this need for companionship. Why do they not seek audience with you? Why do they conduct such important research without your knowledge?"

Withed and trembling the skeletal form of a starved Kesh holds up a second finger alongside its discolored and chipped main claw, "Another, a sister of undeath and child of the Wormstar. She too exists in your shadow, biding her time and learning. Freed from self-imposed imprisonment in unfeeling, unthinking stone, she waits for her time to wage eternal war. She did not suffer defeat nor the brutal monotony of imprisonment to temper her passions nor her vices. Why do her forces lay in wait in the prison you freed her from? Why would your most trusted minion send one of your mightiest and most loyal children to keep watch over her?"

An alien form lifts a third finger from a radial hand, barely recognized as a mangled form of the Wraith you had managed to drag into reality while feasting upon its Solar energies when it interrupted your meeting with the Armatocere Eldertree, "While they are not yet a part of your Armada, there is one who shared your previous loyalty to the Undying Court now freed of such bonds, their god slain and dispersed. They resent you, to which all things come so naturally, where they must scrounge and toil. Even now you send your family to bend them to your will. What do they hide under their world? What secrets of their own do they have?"

The voices fall silent, its form shifting with each slight movement as the blank eyes of the wooden mask look up to you. It appears it is waiting for another question, the Masked lingering longer than nearly any other had before.

Do you wish to question them further on this topic or ask another?
>>
>>2345377
>Betrayer

We just need to not get played if this information is false and/or a self-fulfilling prophecy.
>>
>>2345549
>Why do they conduct such important research without your knowledge?
Tell me about this unsanctioned research.
>>
>>2345549
The second is clearly Ruscuv. She never particularly bought our philosophy about allying with life to avoid stagnation.

And the third is clearly that guy Ruscuv and Valresko are visiting that doesn't even have any loyalty to us in particular ATM. The tip that they've got something hidden below the surface of their world is a good one to check up on.

Who's the first? I guess I'm asking the thread, not the Masked.
>>
>>2345577
>>2345549
Wait, is the first one the Lavafather? I think I'm forgetting something of the details of their imprisonment.
>>
>>2345570
If this is the Lavafather, IMO their world is their own. They can conduct what experiments they like in it.

They should be sharing anything good they find though. If they're not, that's a cause of concern. We haven't been holding back from them.
>>
>>2345597
Makes sense, its cool he can have his private bushiness. With Ruscuv we might need to show her something to change her mind about the living.
>>
>>2345549
The first guy is the Lavafather, 2nd is Ruscov, 3rd is Mr Burn Everything. We can worry about them later. Ruscov has her forces confined to a single planet, so i'm not worried about all out war with her. The Lava Father seemed grateful, especially his simple but heartfelt message after we helped him make ships. He lied once, but I feel that he feels at the very least some loyalty to us. As for Mr.Inferno, its obvious that he doesn't like us, but thats nothing new.
Ask about what our current state means(Abomination) for ourselves, the galaxy and if they will help us when The Ho shows up with a case of the munchies.
>>
>>2345549
Please choose:
>Question them about the Three
>Ask what it means to be an Abomination
>Ask about Akka-Tor
>>
>>2345549
god the masked are such ass! I mean they are a great character and a wonderful enigmatic faction but that doesn't make them any less ass to deal with.

The helpful ones answer questions with questions and vague aphorism while the unhelpful ones steal our shits using cosmic cheat codes.

Everything they do is a wrench they are throwing into the mechanisms to make their favorite show all the more interesting.

Lava Father grows at our bidding, he was the one who was betrayed by the wasps since the Obsidianborn were to primal and violent for their crystal peace. and from what we know it looks like hes in the process of converting his volcano if not the entire moon into a massive warship. I'm ok with this.

Ruscuv wants an endless war, and with the scale of the gamespace she can have it, we will be at extensive war with the Osjiic empire and the Snakes, and after that with upstart immortals or wannabe galactic conquerors and the many fragments of the necrotic armada that will not yield.

I never felt the Wraiths were our enemy, people jumped to that conclusion, I think she might have been the original betrayer but the Armada was undercut by the crystal/wasp forces in an alpha strike that decapitated their greatest military forces. Its been a loooong time that shes been alone relegated to little more then a pirate raider and cautionary tale. I dont think we are quite ready to bring her to heel yet but I think we could probably put preliminary plans in motion.

Furthur questions...
>If I took your mask off would you die?
Sorry, but these guys just ask for baneposting every time they show up
>Ask about being an abomination
>>
>>2345680
>The Three
Since they can freeze time as well, I assume that the Masked would be interested in/know something about them.
>>2345685
They have been helpful. They have given us our old weapon back, as well as given us info, such as the location of the nearest Blackscale Cabal. Remember, the Masked themselves are divided. Imagine a big casino with many patrons. Thats what the Masked are like, each making trying to make things go a specific way, but instead of money, they get amusement(OR MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE). As we influence more things, more Masked will come to oppose us, but more will come to support us, in their own 'special way' I assume since this one is giving us info, it is at least not against our continued meddling.
>>
>>2345692
We appear to be at an impasse.
I damn well know there are lurkers here. Just pick an option.
>>
>>2345736

The issue is I want to know it all.

I suppose I can yield. The 3 are an issue that may continue to plague us, while us being an abomination can be dealt with slowly.
>>
>>2345745
I wasn't accusing you anything, simply making a statement. I also want to know everything, but Abomination is a topic that could take a while to explain, while knowledge on The Three will give us greater ability to plan.
>>
>>2345680
>Ask what it means to be an Abomination
WHAT ARE WE EVEN besides cool
>>
>>2345692
>>2345761
Adding my vote.

We're treading new ground, and that's dangerous. Any info about where previous attempts at multi-element mastery went wrong would be helpful.

It would also indirectly tie in to why the Three were so unhappy about it in particular, rather than just the arc demons being let out.
>>
>>2345680
Just to clarify, which option are you choosing for your last question?
>Ask about the Three
>Ask about being an Abomination
>>
>>2345839
I'll change mine to >Ask about being an Abomination to avoid an another impasse.

Can I point out that though they have given us a little insite into a few of our possible betrayed they have not answered the question of the traitor in our midst, so thank them devastating the obvious and say you will advise them of tomorrow weather which looks to be sunny but in the distant future may become overcast (spooky finger waving at your discretion)

>>2345839
Since your less than helpful dare I ask what you can tell me about my status as an abomination why where the three so against my new form
>>
>>2345549
"Still you speak in riddles," you say more to yourself, the vacuum-ravaged yuyut giving a bow and a nod. Clacking your new fangs together while your tail lashes in annoyance you lean forward, "This hints of a betrayer feel like little more than gossiping about the future of the weather, ephemeral and ever-changing as you said. But knowledge, any knowledge, is useful.

"Tell me what it means to be an Abomination and why these... Three are so damn invested in it and I?" you question while aiming a clawed finger in its direction.

The figure before you folds their hands together, for once appearing like a seemingly uninjured epikor behind the screaming facade of their kind but as it moved you see the thin line of severed flesh around their throat part and begin seeping thick blood as it spoke, "Ahh... Abomination... Perhaps a crude title, but it serves and reflects those dreary few who would keep the universe orderly and neat and... oh so boooooring," the last word drones like a massive swarm of insects.

The figure, now some strange six-limbed insectoid perched on four legs, gestures with arms from which slide sturdy blades meant for crushing stone or tilling earth. Broken and collapsed compound eyes stick out from the sides of the mask perched above a pair of sturdy broken mandibles, the off-red chitin of its armor faded and cracked in sections, "We are certain you have begun to see how it works, the Universe and its component forces, how they interlock and feed off each other, fueling the ticking of the cosmic clock. To become Abomination is to begin learning how it all works. You are a threat, a thread that which may unravel all that is, this we do not deny. For who can cause more damage to reality than one who knows how it is built?

"This is the danger you present to -Them-. An uncontrollable force manifesting and manipulating the forces upon which your reality is built?" the kosda missing its left side, the robe hanging limp, gives a shudder, "To see the believed slain champion of a former GOD surpass and succeed where it had only doomed itself?

"You terrify them, Lich-Lord," the human points a finger dripping fresh blood, every inch of flesh freshly flayed from wet muscle, "You bring Chaos and Change to a galaxy that has grown stagnant and rotten. This is what it means to be what you are now. The Galaxy is changing, entering a new era and, whether you avoid or embrace it, it is because of you.

"Look to the wonderful devices you have created, these reactors of elemental forces, founts of the Arc and the like. Look to the Arc Surge, where the barriers have grown thin and how the Nekris was able to breach it, an Abomination himself of the Necrotic and Arc and those Daemons that followed," the robed form of a ructu suffering a from numerous cuts from a vibroblade gestures with a broken hand, "To be Abomination is to test the boundaries and limits of the universe."

>cont
>>
>>2346024
"Not even other dimensions are safe it seems, your scorched world of learning and research breaching into strange planes of existence to further your own ends," the Maskeds chuckle feels like a low rumble through your very bones, "Abominations are heralds of change, of great upheavals, and this scares them, these who found comfort in rigidity and stagnation, so much like the wayward Crystals but missing their passion."

A vine lifts to you, a mindvine Armatocere grayed and burnt to mobile ash, "Just as the Arc Surge weakened the barriers, so too will your presence. You inspire great changes, not only in the political landscapes, nor the metaphysical, but even among those who live under your protection.

"Reality will bend and warp around you, pliable and waiting to be shaped. But will you manage to build with this? Or will it break before you? Would you even wish to save it if it were fracture and change?"

You had sat back in your chair, the claws of two fingers tapping the armrest as you listened to the Masked carry on while carefully observing its shifting form. You were about to question it further when the Blackscale with its neck twisted at a cruel angle reaches into it's sleeve and pulls forth a familiar wooden mask.

The insectoid visage of the beast from your homeworld of Kyn'tk turns over in its clawed hands as if inspecting it before it speaks, "It is not often we ask the questions, but there is one that has been vexing our gathering.

"Why did you ask for one of our Masks? Only one other being has requested one from us, and yet you do not even attempt to decipher its properties or gifts beyond a fluke of will to save your beloved Rethak, merely keeping it as a trophy," the chuckle rattles your form, its words harsh in your bones, "It drives us mad with curiosity, Lich-Lord."

You look down to your chest, where you swore the mask had been safely concealed, only to stare at it now clutched in your hand, it's multifaceted eyes staring back up at you.

What shall you say to them?

As proof of what you are: fallible, that you can be wrong, maybe not entirely, but at least in a gamble. It was mostly a caused by anger at you guys treating us like some kind of game that you could place bets on or push to see what happens.
This mask is proof, in the same manner as Nekris' and Valresko's power, that you are not Absolute. You can be proven wrong. If you can be proven wrong, you can be anticipated. If you can be anticipated, you can be used. If you can be used, you are NO DIFFERENT THEN ANY OTHER WORLD, SPECIES OR ORGANISM THAT YOU TOY WITH.

Not a threat, but simply a warning. Also remark that if we can alter the universe, its rules and the people in it, whats to stop us from altering The Masked, for better or worse?
>>
>>2346030
You examine it, turning it over in your hands before tapping the armrest of your throne with it and propping your chin up on the knuckles of your other hand, "It is but a trinket I requested on a whim," you watch the avian-like creature coated in thick tar tilt its head, its feathers soaked and glinting in the light, getting a small amount of amusement out of its confusion.

"I was curious about it and the Masked. I have lacked the time to study it in depth, and while I'm sure you would be amused by me staring at it for hours on end, I do have quite a few pressing matters I must constantly tend to. In due time I will master it, like everything else," you lift the mask to your chest and the indigo chitin seems to mold around it like clay as its absorbed back into your form, Reconstructing yourself around it, "It is a sign that you are not infallible, that you can be wrong.

"If we can alter and change the universe, its rules and people in it, what is stopping me from altering the Masked, for better or worse?"

Your question hangs in the air before you hear its dreaded echo vibrating through your being, "You are never unentertaining, Lich-Lord. This one personally hopes to see your machinations stretch far through the ages. You are most... interesting..."

As the word fades you feel the now familiar jolt as you are returned to the embrace of time, sound and sensation of the vast interconnected network of undead and living minds reestablishing itself with a blink of an eye that leaves behind only a few tattered threads of gray cloth that quickly disintegrate before you.

With a deep sigh you press fingertips to your temples, several members of the bridge crew turning to glance your way before returning to their tasks.

Taking several moments to yourself to ponder upon the information pried from the Masked you eventually turn your attention to the Refuge situation. The governing body, stationed on Hearth, was little more than a council made up of former politicians and community leaders left-over from the exodus from Cerberi and those that had stepped forth in the time of need to guide and help those in need. They have sent requests to speak with the Armada, at times requesting someone in command in the Legion, you by name, or even requesting "the large one with all the crystals". From what you gather from reports from Necrolytes involved with the Refuge efforts that Tlacex has earned the admiration of much of the population, particularly with those still on or relocated from Scatters, many questioning where he had gone now that he was playing warden alongside Nekris over the captured Ahkam serpents.

The Pirate Clans also seem to have an invested interest in the Refuge system, in fact being the ones to alert the Armada to the unfolding crisis and the first faction who attempted to help those living in the system.

How would you like to contact the Refuge government?

Rethak going in would be great for jump starting Legion recruiting and activity, but it would also be showing Immortals to the world which could be bad with how many rogue Immortals are still unaccounted for.

So Im leaning more for Harbinger with an honor guard more then with Rethak.

Tlacex was standing in a chamber that had come to serve as his "office" while overseeing the imprisoned Ahkam. Several Think Tanks drifted around the chamber while holoscreens displayed their various prisoners with data concerning their health and detected emotional states being constantly updated. There were also screens dedicated to tracking the soldiers captured during the invasion.

A flatbody Gargoyle slithers through his fingers, the general absentmindedly occasionally stroking it with a finger as he keeps his constant vigil. At the approach of a Harbinger his beak pulls back to bare the blunt, heavy teeth with a grin and the Gargoyle slithers up his arm as he salutes.

"I am glad to see you are well after the battle with the Matriarch, Tlacex," the Reconstructed says with your voice while drifting through a holoscreen displaying an ahkam male coiled up into a spiteful ball.

"I could say the same to you, Lord Jadyk," they reach up with their hand, letting the Gargoyle slither from his shoulder into his grasp once more, "Glad to report that her kids haven't given us too much trouble. Those that have been... rowdy have been subdued, at Nekris' suggestion, "until they can learn to behave themselves better than a blood-drunk tyrre" while the rest have just been too depressed and defeated to try anything."

"I do not blame them, their worldview has been shattered. Even those that did not buy into their own charade must be confused and uncertain of their future, as they should be. However, it is my hope they can be convinced like Vle'Karak and the others to join us in time," the Harbinger turns and begins to look from screen to screen.

"I'll leave that to you and the Predators then. I'll keep guard over them, but I doubt I'll be making a better argument than you," the Illuminator says with a chuckle, the dark crystals bursting from his form glinting with an inner light with every slight movement.

"I was not expecting you to speak with the serpents, but another audience all-together," you say as the Harbinger turns to see the much larger undead tilt their head in confusion, a most avian gesture, "Did you know that you are quite popular within the Refuge system? You deeds in defending their lives and even helping with the initial steps of rebuilding have spread far, reaching even the Confederation."

A new holoscreen flickers into being, displaying the footage taken from the RA program where Tlacex bodily lifts a large pile of rubble allowing trapped civilians to be pulled out by medic Legionnaires and locals. Tlacex rubs the Gargoyle under its central eye as he watches then looks to the Harbinger, "I only did what I believed would shine a positive light upon the Armada. You had sent me to save them after all."

"Do not mistake me, Tlacex, I am proud of your accomplishments. It is because of this popularity that I want you to travel to the Refuge system to meet with those that call themselves the Refuge government. I will be with you speaking through another Harbinger, but it will be useful to have the undead Hero of Refuge join me," you say through the Reconstructed.

Tlacex shakes his head and holds up his free hand almost defensively, "If you should call anyone the heroes of Refuge it is Jor and Rethak, they ended the crisis by finding and stopping the Necromancer."

"They are recognized for their bravery and that of those Legionnaires who went into the darkness of that moon by we of the Armada. Rethak most of all has been honored by becoming the first True Immortal of the Armada. But you, Illuminator," the Harbinger lifts a slender finger toward the General, "are meant to shine the light of my truth and bring the glory of the Armada to all before us. This is merely a part of that purpose."

Tlacex bows their head and salutes, the Gargoyle curling around his wrist, "Of course, Lord Jadyk. I shall depart at once after informing Nekris. I will travel by Arc Relay to the Drakon system then to Refuge from there."

With a nod of its head the Harbinger turns to drift back into the shadows while the Illuminator General was already barking out orders for the creation of more Dirges and Requiems. Their long strides had already carried them out the chamber as they send word to Nekris about their sudden need to depart.

>Illuminator Tlacex deployed to the Refuge System
>A message has been sent to the Refuge government through the Necrolyte Legion to expect an ambassador from the Armada to meet them soon

After your latest stressful encounter with the Masked, once more you seem left with more questions than answers. The information about the "betrayers" felt like little more than gossip and an attempt to sow discord between you and two of your allies but you knew the Masked always hid pieces of truth in their words.

The mask weighed heavy in its hiding spot within your torso, thankfully motionless, but it made you uncertain for just a moment. You knew that there was always the risk of the prideful Zekrul turning on you or becoming aggressive, making the undead the most likely candidate for this betrayal they spoke of. Their mention of what he may be hiding under the surface intrigued you, your stealth ships detecting a significant Necrotic signal that could easily be a reactor similar to those that fuel your own cities and fortresses.

Ruscuv was another matter however. You knew she thrived and hungered for warfare and conflict, nearly as much as the Voidknights and others who felt the black flames of the Void, but you had hoped the mote of essence you had dropped into her Cauldron during her rejuvenation and time among the new Armada would temper her. With the inevitable conflicts against the Osjiic Empire seemingly about to erupt you hope that will give her enough motivation to stick with your Armada for the time being.

The Lavafather was a curious case though. You did not believe, or perhaps, did not want to believe that they would turn on you after everything that has happened. Without your Armada the Lavafather and his Obsidianborn would still be trapped upon their moon, fighting to keep the stonestar out of the Ahkams coils. With your Armada, however, they have progressed with incredible speed, their fleets becoming a useful and, sometimes, key portion of your own. You had left the moon of Bastion to his jurisdiction, merely allowing Agona and Muic to cooperate with building up the Armada's forces upon it. The knowledge that they had been attempting to complete research into the remains of the Fractoids could be either foreboding or encouraging, showing they were invested in progressing just as you have. They did end up turning over the remains after being "caught" and admitted they had reached an impasse in studying it while apologizing to Jor and the Generals.

Clacking your teeth in frustration you glance around the bridge but spot no lurking robed figures, the paranoia the Masked had left behind only serving to frustrate you further.

Do you wish to speak to Ruscuv before she meets with Zekrul or with the Lavafather?

The red star of Drakon looms high in the sky, burning through even the layer of smoke and clouds that formed from the constant volcanic activity of Caldera. A small continent of mostly solid, hardened stone seems to float in a vast sea of lava with smaller outcroppings of island-like mountains nearby. The rest of the planet was harsh and unforgiving, the atmosphere toxic to all but the hardiest of lifeforms with acidic rains being a constant occurrence from the intense and frequent volcanic eruptions that gave the world its name.

The continent had only recently been occupied by the Obsidianborn and brave Stonestar sent to colonize the planet but already construction pylons sprouted across its surface like a strange forest. Each one was hard at work building up the Lavafathers ever-growing fleet, each ship "alive" in the same manner as the Obsidianborn constructs that toiled tirelessly throughout the planet.

Refineries dot the surface of multiple islands and mountain ridges across the planet, processing the rivers of magma to draw out the precious metals and minerals required to fuel the Lavafathers unique geokinetic technology. Towering constructs of dark stone wade through lava-flows, dark red crystals glowing with an inner light as molten metals are drawn upwards from the rivers to gather in ever growing spheres of glowing ore.

While much of the construction upon and under the planets surface was of Obsidianborn make there did exist outposts and fortresses made of bone and dark metal, built by the Punishers to defend the world from future attackers. The largest of these fortresses was perched upon a tall cliff of the colonized continent, similar to the fortress Agona had first built upon Bastion. Atop a wall overlooking the sea of flowing stone a Harbinger sat in silent contemplation with its hands clasped in its lap.

A faint chiming of glass heralds the approach of an Obsidianborn and the Harbinger lifts into the air to greet it appropriately with a low bow. The construct was made of intricately carved and interlinked obsidian glass that shifts and reshapes itself with constant flowing motion around a dense core of crystal that glowed with the same light as the rivers of lava.

The Harbinger makes a sweeping motion with its hand toward the forest of pylons in the nearby distance and speaks with your voice, "I see that your children have been quite busy. Their efforts helped us greatly in Horizon's Drop with the fleet they built."

>cont
>>
>>2349805
The psychic voice of the Lavafather reverberates in the Harbingers skull but it matches the chiming of the construct "speaking" with a version the stonestars native language, <It makes me proud to hear that, but my children cannot take all the credit. Your daughter Agona worked tirelessly to make this world worth of our Armada. I am glad that your system survived the attack and know we will gladly join in with defense in the future, however,> the Obsidianborns constantly movement shifts its patterns subtly as he pauses before speaking, <It seems the stone hulls of my ships do not fare as well against the powers of the Void as they do the Arc. Hence our involvement with invading the Empire will be less enthusiastic than what we may launch against the Dynasties.>

"Understandable, of course. I too held my Voidknights back during the Ahkam invasion for a similar reasoning. It is just strategy," you say as the Harbinge waves a hand dismissively.

<Relating to the invasion, it is relieving to know you suffer no ills from it if Agona and Muic are to be believed. Similarly relieving is that your efforts saved Rukor from the Matriarchs suicidal intent. I have grown... fond of the world and it's people. My stonestar children regard them as something akin to a weaker member of the tribe that must be protected and nurtured.> the Lavafather says, the obsidianborn construct entrancing to watch as it reshapes itself with constant shifting motions of its intricate links.

What shall you say to him?

"My close friend and ally, together we are building an empire that will surpass both of our past allegiances. Though we once may have been considered enemies, I believe that together we can create something to be proud of, something that will stand as a bastion of hope for all those that have been subjugated and spat upon by the menaces of the galaxy. "Rukor and her children are worth protecting indeed. Soon the ructu will be sailing the stars as they once sailed Rukors seas. They will also be joining my Legion and seeking ways to see the wider galaxy," the Harbinger says and turns its gaze toward the horizon where a new cruiser of dark stone makes its first flight upwards and out of the atmosphere.

<You will not keep track of them?>

"They will be watched over, of course, but to restrain their growth is not my Armadas way," the Harbinger tuns back to the Obsidianborn conduit of the Lavafather, "Do you ever find it amusing?"

The shifting complexity of the construct changes its patterns, perhaps a reflection of curiosity, <What is that, Lord Jadyk?>

"Once we were considered enemies of the highest order, champions of our causes without a thought of a better existence," the Harbinger once more looks out across the expanse of volcanic rock and lava, "And yet, here are, building an empire together, building something that may surpass either of our past allegiances. This Armada, our Armada, grows and we are making it into a bastion of hope for those who have subjugated and derided by the menaces and powers of the galaxy.

"Together we have made something truly to be proud of," once more the Harbinger turns to the construct while drawing its legs up under it and clasping its hands together, "So tell me, my friend. How may we further aid each other? Is there anything you require, information or aid that we undead can grant you?"

The Lavafather is silent for a few moments before his psychic voice speaks, <I too am proud of what we have made. I personally owe much to the Armada and your compassion. Without which, I would still be stuck on that moon, my mind unable to reach out and see new vistas and worlds such as this. I am truly thankful for this, even if my physical form, my core, is forever sealed to that volcano and moon, I am able to be more and experience it all again. Without your Armada my stonestar would still be killing each other or worse, enslaved by the Ahkam to fight on alien worlds for gods that do not care for them.>

You recall the first time Agona had visited the moon that would be named Bastion in time, and how she witnessed a brutal war between stonestar tribes of loyalists and those duped by the Ahkam, "The Dynasties are a blight, a cancer, that much be burned away and I am grateful to have your aid with this."

>cont

>>2350083
<You asked what I required, what aid or information I could use. There is much my ever-growing family,> the patterns shift momentarily, swirling and jolting, <requires but before I make any requests I must apologize for not bringing the Think Tanks in to assist with the study of these Fractoids that nearly stopped us from rescuing Muic. If it pleases you and your Think Thanks, my Obsidianborn would like to work with them in this regard to share what little we have discovered so far.>

"That can be arranged easily enough," you say with a dismissive motion of the Harbingers hand, "Where there any concerns you may have or future endeavors we can assist with?"

<For the moment we are content to expand here in Drakon and build up Caldera however I do have one request of you, Lord Jadyk,> the Obsidianborn chimes with his words, <Chaos must be spreading in the Dynasty after you slew the Matriarch. I can only imagine the serpents are nearly devouring themselves by now, making them prime targets. When you do launch your assault to free as many worlds from their coils as you can, look to us for aid. My stonestar have been harmed by the Ahkam while also seeing what has happened to the ructu and learning from their freed slaves in your Armada. I bring their desire to you, the desire to break the shackles of the Dynasty upon this sector.>

Their voice within the Harbingers skull was full of determination, the glass construct shifting with a fierce pattern as it relayed his message.

>The Lavafather requests that they be heavily involved with the future assaults and endeavors against the Ahkam Dynasty in the wake of the Matriarchs death
>They also request that their Obsidianborn join the Think Tanks in studying the Fractoids and will share what knowledge they have gleaned from their research so far

This was a good first probe into their loyalty, I think. As far as polite conversation goes this is about as far as it can go.
What we really need to do in the future is set up a scenario where the Lavafather (although we could do this for Ruscuv and the burny one as well) has an opportunity to take advantage of the Armada when he thinks we aren't looking, and see how that goes. Actions speak louder than words and all that
>>
>>2350108
Kind of supporting
We should say that they who aren't to be named have many individuals that have and will play all sides for there amusement.
We have received boons but we also found out that our enemies have as well

>>2350117
That does sound like a test we should conduct later
>>
>>2350088
Hearing the words of the Lavafather does much to relieve some of the stress that the meeting with the Masked had brought upon you.

The Harbinger gives a nod, "I would be foolish not to grant this request. The Ahkam will rightfully learn to fear the sight of our ships in their skies."

The motions of the Obsidianborn construct slow and seem to calm from their momentary intensity, resuming their lazy rotations and spirals, <As will any of our future foes>

You are silent for a moment in thought before the Harbinger speaks, "A warning, my friend. It would do you well not to trust those who hide themselves behind masks and wear the dead. While they may bring great boons most valuable, they manipulate information and knowledge and half-truths the same way you manipulate heat and stone or I with flesh and bone."

The construct shifts suddenly, the links and segments drawing in close to the core with a quivering mass before he speaks <I believe I know of who you speak. Your warning is appreciated.> they are silent for a few moments before they speak once more <Their presence is... disconcerting. I do no remember them from before my fall and imprisonment, however I doubt I would have been worth their notice then>

"As was I, but in this new era we are not what we once were, my friend," the Harbinger says with your voice as it straightens then bows low before the construct, "Let us make our Armada mighty, together."

<Together, Lord Jadyk.>

With your mind moving onto other matters along with the Lavafather the Harbinger and Obsidianborn were left directionless. Rather than return to where they had been summoned they seem to wait, the undead turning to gaze out across the burning sea alongside the construct in silence.

The ship carrying the serpent Vil'cva had arrived at the moon and transported him down to the surface via Coffin by the time you turn your mind to him once more. Much to your appreciation the Ahkam male keeps himself behaved, following the guiding Think Tank as Dirges escort them to the chamber that had once been Cve'jok's prison cell. His tongue flits out as he tastes the air for a few moments before he moves to coil around the heated pillar where he stayed in silence while waiting to speak with Vle'Karak.

Vle'Karak however was still conversing with Nru'jok, both arguing over some matter concerning the slain Quantac'Vrix in their native tongue. Arclight crackles across the Butches green scales while the Glutton Spheres set into the collar around her neck shine with the energy they drained from her in her moments of anger. Several times it feels as if they may strike at him but you had little fear for his safety, knowing that there were plenty of counter-measures that should be able to stop her should she manage to resist the influence of the collar.

As the sun draws starts to sink below the horizon and the auroras begin to appear in the sky you are reminded of Jors suggestion that you address the civilian population in the wake of the invasion and Empires attack. With a single thought word of an announcement to take place in the colosseum is sent out across the city and the crowds begin to congregate toward it. While the Colosseum was quite large, capable of housing over two thousand bodies, the population of the city had swollen beyond that capacity leading to other gatherings to manifest throughout the city.

They began to gather in various squares where holoscreens were projected showing the most recent races or pit fights between gladiators or Reconstructed and pirate machine and pet. The scents of cooking food fills the chill air as hundreds of cooks and chefs from a dozen various races started preparing for nightly meals alongside Reconstructed helpers. Even the Armatocere, who normally seemed to grow sluggish in the night, had not returned to the Floral Quarter, mingling with those that gathered nearby in a large plaza surrounding a large fountain designed to resemble the island city of Vyi'a'Rthun on Rukor. Even Sapling Slrrt was spotted talking with a gathering of citizens and even a pirate or two.

As you depart from the Charnel Vault aboard a Coffin headed for Iti'a'Ropku your mind drifts out to view another matter for the moment.

Officer Dretst stood alone in a chamber wearing a dark, nondescript uniform lacking the common identifiers of a Necrolyte's gear giving the appearance of a someone without any clear indicators of loyalty but a sense of professionalism. Before her floated a demi-Think Tank projecting holoscreens showing the two Blackscale Cabals where they stood aboard the Pestilence lightyears away.

One of the Blackscale sneers at the holoscreen displaying the vorh, "Tell us, if you will, why we should just accept your assistance. You are unknown to us and we know of many mercenaries and private militaries such as you claim to be."

The spinal tap symbiot merged with her spine could detect her slight frustration as she stood with hands clasped behind her back, "I believe your 'cousins' just informed you of what services we can provide but I shall repeat it. I represent a group that shares your interests in Necrotic-based and other useful technologies which led to us meeting and even working with your cousins on certain projects. My soldiers can provide a service that will likely prove invaluable to your plot such as the ability to get into the lab without notice."

"Stealth cloaks are a rare but not unheard of technology," hisses one of the Blackscale, "You didn't answer us properly. Why should we let you join us?"

Dretst's eyes glance toward Raakah and Beqor who remain silent, likely wanting to see what the Legion could possibly bring to the situation.

What should Dretst say or do to convince the Blackscale that assistance from the Phantoms are necessary?

Showing off knowledge would make them more wary, not less. The immediate concern would be how they know so much.

Showing off more ability still makes us more useful without also making us less trustworthy.

If that doesn't get a good reaction, we can start turning screws about how we'll benefit more as friends than as enemies. We already know enough to make any unilaterial operation end in disaster if we so choose.

Glancing away from the screen she gives a nod as if indicating to someone that wasn't there and a moment later in the bridge of the Destroyer another screen flickers to life as her image shrinks to make room while she speaks, "We are more than just a mercenary company. Our interests invest heavily in cutting edge technologies both new and ancient. One of our more recent breakthroughs will make this plot much easier to pull off."

As she spoke the holoscreen displays footage of Phantoms in their matte black armor working their way through an obstacle course designed like the interior of a ship or space station. Holograms designed after Confederate soldiers fought back against them but the Phantoms moved unpredictably and attacked from unseen angles as they leap through solid walls and locked doorways, the holograms struck by their weaponry shattering into broken light.

The footage changed to show footage from one of the Legions first tests with the equipment several days prior. A human wearing the prototype of the Phantom armor for living use stood in front of a section of ship hull over a meter thick. They shook their arms and bounced on the balls of their feet as they psyched themselves up before charging forward with a shout. Rather than bounce off it like they had seemed to expect with how they threw up their arms defensively they instead pass through as if the material was merely a convincing hologram.

The human throws up their arms in victory with a laugh as nearby Legionnaires in civilian clothes joined in until they all duck suddenly as a nearby soldier lifts a kinetic rifle and shoots a few rounds at the hull to prove its solidity.

More footage of their training running through walls and leaping down between floors with careful timing of their armor is played but Dretst's holoscreen expands to its former size as she begins speaking once more, "We call it Quasiphasic Disruption, or Specter tech as we've dubbed it. It's uses are myriad but turned into a suit of armor it provides more utility than any weapon or explosive could ever have. With my soldiers, my Phantoms you see in this footage, we can get in nearly any facility in known space with ease."

By the way the Blackscale had been staring at the footage before turning away and beginning to converse in hurried whispers Dretst knew they were intrigued. She glances to Beqor and Raakah who's lips curled in smug grins even if it was their first time witnessing the technology as well.

Finally one of them turns back to the hologram, "If this footage is to be believed you have quite a potent technology on your hands already. If you were to share this Quasiphasic Disruption with us we would be most happy to make a trade if-"

Dretst holds up a hand to halt their words, "A trade of technology could be arranged after this operation, but only after."

"Hm, and why does your... company wish to gain access to this lab?" the other Necromancer questions while tapping her chin with a wicked claw.

"The Confederates love technology nearly as much as we do. These labs are often full of immensely valuable information and tech we would like a chance to catch a glimpse of. This would also be an ideal operation to further test out our Phantoms capabilities infiltrating a facility with this level of security," the vorh Necrolyte says, not mentioning this would in fact be their first time operating outside of controlled practice environments.

"How soon would you be able to mobilize?" asks the other Blackscale.

"Within the hour and we would be able to arrive within a day or two of FTL travel. We already have a presence in the Curou sector just waiting for my command," she says, confident she'd managed to convince them.

The Blackscale turn away once more, this time motioning for Beqor and Raakah to join them. They converse for several minutes while pausing to glance back occasionally toward the holoscreens. Finally they turn back once again, the Blackscale Necromancer brushing away imaginary dust from their robes, "Very well, these Phantoms seem like they would be useful. What payment do you require? We have much in the way of credits from many factions such as the Confederation, the UON, the Pirates, even marks from the Dynasties so we are certain we can afford your services."

How should Dretst reply?
>Write-in
>>
>>2350537
To make it look like we're legit mercs, perhaps an assortment of credits all tallying up to what a Confederate operation would theoretically cost. Also say that the technology exchange is what 'we're' after.
>>
>>2350553
I'll second this. A respectable but not exorbitant number of Confederate credits for our services, with the understanding that we consider access to any technological secrets from the lab to be a significant part of our compensation. The payment of credits is largely to establish trust by aligning our motives with theirs. We won't just get what we want and ditch them mid-operation because then we'd lose the payment. Besides, refusing payment looks like posturing, which is deception, which means they'd need to poke around more for our true motives. We're supposedly mercs.

It turns out that Confederate credits will help with the Armada's infiltration efforts anyway. Having credits that aren't not derived from the cartels might help us avoid cartel attention for some things too.

"I'm sure we can come to a reasonable price for our prized services. It will not be insignificant however considering what technology we will be using, nor what we are breaking into," Dretst says with a nod to no one as the Think Tanks calculate what they feel to be an appropriate number and display it for the Blackscale, "Once we learn more about the specifics of the operation we can haggle about the precise cost. However, I personally feel this price is rather low in pure monetary value. What we request as part of our payment is access to their tech and datastores during the same operation. We may even discuss sharing what we discover afterwards once it is all decrypted and sorted through if you desire it."

One of the Blackscale clicks her tongue sharply before turning to look to Beqor and Raakah, "We are splitting their price, you know this."

Beqor's grin grows to bare his sharp, misshapen teeth, "Why of course. We would not have suggested involving them if we did not trust their services."

Raakah gives a sharp nod, "Indeed, they have been most reliable. You know what a compliment that is coming from us, cousinsss," she says with a hiss.

The pair of so far unnamed Blackscale look to each other before one nods to the other and they look to Dretst, "It seems you have wormed your way into our plot. Congratulations. Let us pray to whichever of our gods feel likely to smile on us and begin planning."

Dretst clicks her mandibles with an affirmative sound and nods, "This will be a profitable operation for us all if this works out well." Her symbiot could feel her satisfaction at having convinced the Blackscale and secured their trust for the moment. Thoughts of how far she'd come from her days growing up on Veraga Prime to now filled her with a sense of amused wonder.

When the Blackscale began speaking once more about their plans she focuses, banishing thoughts of her youth as they begin plotting the operation. However she glances to the side and nearly breaks her composure at seeing the half-solid vision of your skeletal form giving an approving nod before fading away.

I'd just like to talk about a certain issue that hasn't come up much in a while: The Sunscale.
We have only fought them twice, once when we stumbled upon them by mistake and the second time when the Masked sent us on a blind date. MY question is, why haven't them come knocking yet?
I have a few theories:
1: They take a while to gauge their enemies capabilities before attacking. Considering our rapid growth, this seems plausible. After all, I doubt they have faced undead with as much varied power as us.
2: They dont consider us a threat.Unlikely, considering both their zealous nature and our aforementioned growth and accomplishments.
3: There leaders are holding them back. I can only consider two possible reasons for this.
3a: There high priests arent quite as mindlessly zealous as the lower castes are, and are at least confused at our altruism, leaving them to argue and observe.
3b: The Mother in The Void and The Father from The Solar arnt as zealous as there followers and are trying to rein them in in our case. The only thing we have heard about them besides what the Sunscales have said is that they ganked The Black Flame, Ghul's patron. They may be more humanitarian then there followers. We need to avenge Ghul, but if they arnt a pair of Cock Monglers then we can settle for making them servants or decreasing their power.
The silence coming from the Sunscales makes me...nervous. On another note, I remember in a vision given to us by the Masked, Sunscale ships where there when The Wormstar was killed, but more importantly, also with at least one of the type of ship that The Bitch has. I doubt it, but I hope that if we send a simple probe to a place with Sunscales, asking them if they want Akka-Tor dead, then to send any weakness of that type of ship.

It could also be the fact that we've been at this for a grand total of a couple of months. Even in the far future, organizing and preparing for war takes time. More so if you need to move your fleets and support elements through sovereign territory spanning thousands of light years.

It's likely equal parts caution, confusion and logistics. Us being allied with the armatocere must be fucking weird

It's a bit crazy to think that all our battles have been against picket fleets, minor expeditionary fleets and punitive forces scrounged together with whatever was close enough.
>>
>>2351643
Just wait until we get to city-planets systems that have been constantly inhabited for thousands of years. I'm actually kind of hoping that there will be more occupational resistance. I can understand how the freed slaves and some of the solders sided with us, but the average citizen(if we didn't help them before) probably will take a longer period of time to like us. Also, as we conquer more planets, Graves probably should save narration for the battles to key ones/flitting between simultaneous ones so as to save time.
>>
>>2351566
>>2351643
Considering we haven't let any get away to tell on us we are still largely unknown and unless they have member who monitor the confederate news channels they probably haven't gotten much noise on us as we have largely been harassing the Osjiic and matriarch

Though if they have any arc users they should have an hint that some thing is going on

>>
>>2358874
It's more like they're natural sadists that would turn against their own kind if they weren't toked out of their minds

But yes, you discovered the basis of the Narcotikelp by finding their stash of dried herb and some seeds.

They also did indeed have a spaceship that performed an emergency jump after Nekris drove them back to their teleportation pad on the surface of Rukor
>>
If we are going to divert our attention, should. It be the disciple or the charred god we focus on the most?
>>
I have a suggestion for a planetary infrastructure upgrade

I suggest we make enormous tunnels underground that encircle and crisscross over areas that are points of interest, fill the tunnels with biomass and then infuse it with dirge crystals before hooking it up to deep rot.

Just imagine not needing a space elevator because deep rot can life materials to and from space, or using it to defend against orbital shelling

Or if we make it large enough. Using deep rot to crush or pull enemy ships from orbit
>>
>>2360318
It'd depend on how the scaling of the telekinetic powers works. It might be that the force drops off with distance so quickly that not even a huge planetary network would have much effective force at low orbit.
