You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Several days had passed since you had brought Janice and Artya to Eisenwand. However, these were not uneventful days,as all of the preparations for the expedition back to Janice and Artya's homeland were being arranged.

It was down to the final hours, and last minute adjustments were still being made as young mages and acolytes dashed to and fro.

You, however, were already set, and were simply just waiting until the moment arrived. You did know, though, that Ozen was preparing an expedition of her own, to track down Semiramis and her followers based on documents you and Morgan recovered from the Elven Quarter.

Speaking of Morgan, you hadn't seen her for quite some time, either...

I think we're overlooking some of the negative side effects with the potential dragon form transformation item.

Dragons are best known for being strong, wise, and proud; but they're also known to be supremely arrogant, greedy, and tyrannical. We've seen how bad it could get with Morgan, and she was only a wolf girl. How bad will we get if our willpower fails to control the dragon inside us?

Of course, you don't seen Nino among the people busily gathering supplies and loading them up into the caravan. Nino was not one to be particularly interested in manual labor, so this was not unexpected.

It was a simple matter of finding her, though. She was pretty much always in the library if she wasn't doing anything else. Sure enough, the door the library is ajar, and you pry it open oh so slightly to see Nino dashing to and fro between the shelves, completely oblivious to your presence. What was she up to, you wonder...

Unfortunately, someone didn't oil the hinges to the library doors properly and they creak loudly, tipping off the little mage to your presence. You hear the sounds of quick, panicked scrambling, but by the time you reach it, you just see Nino standing there with an innocent look on her face. You couldn't find any immediate evidence of suspicious activity.

"Hi there, Templar!" She chirps happily. "So what's up?"

You decide this matter wasn't worth pursuing and just pat her on the head, reminding her that she should get moving or the caravan would go on without her.

"Don't worry, I was just doing some last minute packing!" Nino winks. "Everything's fine!"

You're not so sure if you're ready to believe from Nino of all people that everything's fine, but you'll go along with it. She takes your hand and skips alongside you as you head out of the library.

Outside, the final preparations are being made as the last of the supplies are loaded up into the caravan. However, since this was Mages you were talking about, the caravan was not exactly a... conventional one. Instead of the traditional horse drawn wagons, these.. magic wagons were floating above the ground, and could apparently propel themselves without the aid of a horse.

"Ah, Templar." Elias turns his skull face to you as he inspects one such "wagon". "What do you think of our latest developments in transportation?"

Typical Mages.

You just tilt your head curiously at the sight of the floating wagons. You had so many questions regarding these things. However, you did have to admit that it was an interesting sight.

"It's so neat!" Nino cheers. "The pinnacle of magic research so far!"

So far, there were four of these wagons. Three were to to carry all the members of the expedition split among them, which included your party, Elias and the Twins, Valentia, Janice, and Artya.

There wouldn't be anyone else, though. It was decided to keep the expedition as small as possible to avoid unwanted attention, from both bandits and the Elves.

Well, everybody was starting to mount the wagons, but... you look around, and Morgan is still unaccounted for.

You look to the now distant forest. You knew that if Morgan wasn't feeling comfortable, she would seek solace in the trees. Unfortunately for you, thanks to Ozen, you'd have to walk much, much farther to reach the treeline.

And this was assuming you'd even be able to find Morgan in the first place. Not exactly an easy feat.

"...sorry about disappearing like that." She apologizes. "I just wanted to think some things through. Is it time to go?"

As the both of you walk back to the Monastery, you give Morgan a stern, but curious look. She definitely notices it and looks at you nervously.

"Like I said, I was just thinking about... things."

You stare at her harder.

"C-come on, stop looking at me like that." Morgan stammers.

Haaaaarder.

"Urgh, I hate it when you're like this." Morgan groans in defeat. "It's just... what will they think of me?"

"They" of course, being Janice and Artya's people, you conclude. It seems Morgan's insecurities of meeting new people were starting to surface again.

"What if... what if they don't accept me?" Morgan looks to you. "I mean, I had to have been separated from them for a reason, right? What if it was because they didn't want my ancestors around? What if there's something they don't like about me or my lineage...?"

You just continue to stare and Morgan continues to wilt. At this point, you've already returned to the caravan and she quickly dashes over and dives into the relative safety of one of the wagons, much to your bemusement.

Maybe you really should get a leash for her. Maybe she was into that sort of thing...?

You shake your head rapidly. Sol might strike you down for such thoughts. You head over to the caravan yourself, which seems to be just about ready to leave.

You take position in the front wagon with the rest of your party and Janice, who would be acting as the guide. Elias and the Twins would be in one of the middle wagons while Valentia and Artya would take up the rear. All in all, it was a fairly straightforward setup.

"Hmmmmm." Janice grumbles as she looks at the map Lucina provided. "I never knew your maps would be this... incomplete."

"Well, it's difficult to push out into the wilderness." Morgan says, finally having recovered. "And many of the people that try to map it out don't come back."

"Hmmmm." Janice nods a bit. "Well, thankfully, I do recognize the landmarks here that I can chart a course home."

Her finger traces an invisible path across the map when it stops on a particular mark.

"Hm, seems like there's a town on the way there?" She asks.

"Ah yeah, that's Aldenshire." Naru explains as she leans over to look. "Not too bad, but their booze selection is pretty thin. It's generally a good place to pick up some info and supplies, especially since it's got a Guild office there."

"It'd also be a good place for spies to hide out." Niko warns.

"Ha! We can take care of them easy!" Nino boasts.

"Just remember to keep your uh... features on the down low." Naru grunts. "Don't wanna risk panicking the townspeople."

"Right, riiiiiiiight." Janice chuckles.

So all that was left was to wait until you reached the town...

The first leg of the journey proceeds without issue. After all, the road from Eisenwand to Aldenshire was fairly safe, thanks to some of your efforts.

The town itself is very much the same as you remember it. A sizeable town nestled away in a forest clearing, surrounded by a tall wooden palisade. The gates are quickly opened, the town guards obviously showing no signs of concern. A sign most travelers would take as good. But you're not like most travelers. The absence of caution just meant you haven't noticed the signs that you should be cautious of.

The wagons pull into the town and the gates close securely behind. You see the guard captain look to the darkening sky and to nod the the gate guards, who bar the gate closed. Night was coming.

"Oh woooooow!" Janice gasps in wonder as her eyes dance about.

You also notice Artya absent from your sight.

If they're going around town, they'll need a guide.

Thinking fast, you immediately grab Janice by by the ear through her concealing hood, eliciting a yelp of pain from the wolfwoman.

"H-hey!" She squeals.

That prompts Artya to come out to her defense, but you do the same to her, swiftly grabbing her fox ear through her hood. With the two troublesome demihumans in your grasp, you quickly drag them off to the inn. You didn't want them running loose and causing trouble, especially at night.

"Heh, that was a nice one." Valentia grins as she catches up to you. "Artya here is a really slippery one, with really sticky fingers."

You look down to her in confusion.

"She likes to... er... borrow things." Valentia grumbles. "Kept snatching away my Sol icon and anything else that was loose or lying around.

Artya just shakes her head rapidly. You get the impression that she's just curious rather than intentionally stealing. However, that still would require some scolding and education to discourage her from such things.

Soon enough, everything is squared away. Everybody is put away in their rooms, while the Twins, Morgan, and Romulus remain outside to keep watch on the caravan. Could never be too careful, after all.

You, meanwhile, decided to-

>Stay on watch with Morgan and the others.
>Get a drink or two with Naru.
>Get some rest.

You decide to stay down in the tavern to get a drink with Naru. You weren't feeling particularly tired, anyways.

"Hmph, figured I see you down here." Naru chuckles as you take a seat next to her. Nervous about this whole expedition thing?"

You just shrug. Maybe a little, but you didn't see this as any different from any other quest.

"Heh, well, to us having good luck on this thing, then." Naru raises a mug to toast you.

You nod and return the toast before downing its contents.

However, Naru must have been particularly tired out from the journey, as she pretty quickly passes out on the bar after a few drinks. You suppose having to wrangle more disobedient children was really starting to wear on her.

You simply pick up the sleeping cleric and take her upstairs to her room. You had the feeling that she was going to need the rest. You all would.

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week! And don't forget Macross on Friday!
