<You are Erick Vanders, assistant manager at WalMart Supercenter in Washington DC. Or so you were, until an untimely death saw the end of your normal life. Now, you find yourself trapped, along with several others, in an unforgiving death game orchestrated by an enigmatic black sphere known only as Gantz. With the promise of a way out, and the connections you've fostered with others as your driving force, can you live through the agony of life after death? Or will your mind and body break like the hundreds of others that lived before you?>

<Can you survive Gantz?>

I don't know does Paula count as christmas cake?
>>
There's a grew lull in activity as Carol, Yukino and yourself round out the hill towards the Bonsai Garden. Yukino had been so eager to get started that you truly wondered if the girl had understood what you had told her back in the apartment room. Yet now, she was following Carol's example of keeping a low profile as you all made your way through the Asian styled entrance. Perhaps it was the quiet, stillness of the rocky path or some small sense of wonder that made this little girl slow her roll.

"Stay behind me, close," you say, as you pull the X-gun from your hip holster and raise it to your side, "And be on the look out for any movement. Whatever this thing is, it's interfering with the scanner and we probably don't want to get caught out."

"I'm not a child you know," Carol states, pulling out her own X-gun and making a line to your side, "you're better off having two sets of eyes. If anything, Yukino should be taking the rear here since she doesn't a weapon."

"The big laser took me in before I could get one," Yukino replies, looking around with her hands over her eyes like a visor, "They looked really cool though. Don't worry, I'll let you know if I see anything back here!"

You sigh in defeat, knowing this won't go anywhere if you argue your point. You motion to Carol to your side, she moves closer with a smile, and you all start heading deeper into the exhibit.

<>

The pebbled pathways and the rocky, yet lush, surrounding make your cautious walk a little more calm as you make your way further in. Yukino had been surprisingly quiet inside the exhibit, yet you now noticed why. Wherever there were signs or plates detailing each of the different bonsai variants in the garden, she was always giving them a second glance, with her eyes slowly capturing the descriptions and information therein.

This was contrasted by Carol's own look of surprising apprehension at this place. She looked determined as you, yet you could tell that bit of frailty of mind remained with her from the previous mission. It was certainly there when she looked around a corner or near a large rock or plant.

'They couldn't be more different,' you think, moving towards a sharp corner on the garden hall's pathway, 'Reminds me of when I was a little younger as well...'

Your thoughts stop as a pungent odor reaches your nostrils. It's a sharp, harsh smell that's almost like laundry detergent or heavy perfume masking over a chili dinner. You motion the girls to stop to reassess your current plan.

>Turn back, and make for the entrance
>Go onwards, you move forward and keep them hidden
>Move out, have Carol cover your sides but keep them close

"Cover your nose and mouth and stick close," you command with a series whisper, "Carol, to my side and if anything happens, take Yukino and find the others."

"Alright...but...", Carol starts, moving closer and then catching a look of slight scorn from you, "We can't just leave you..."

"Nothing's gonna happen if you stay focused," you say, slightly more sternly than you may have wanted, "Now, to my side and stick close. I get the feeling that smell is gonna we worse the closer we get to it."

Carol and Yukino nod in agreement, with Carol looking a little more worried about the situation now. After they're in position, you take a breath before starting down the path again, with that smell getting worse as you proceed down the corridor. The others are equally distressed and revolted by it as you head deeper, with Yukino seeming to gag slightly at the air and Carol swaying her gun slightly from how strong the smell is becoming.

As three of you head into the main bonsai display, your vision starts getting cloudier and hazier, though not from the smell itself. The pathway itself leads you three towards what you can only see as a cloud of yellow and white mist beginning to cover parts of the exhibit, which is made all the more worse by the low light visibility of the night.

Proceeding through here is going to be next to impossible, even if your sense weren't getting dulled. You turn to tell the others that maybe you should take an alternate route, but you can't find them anywhere nearby. There's a slight panic as you almost shout their names, yet your common sense tells you to retrace your steps back.

After you exit the cloud back, you find them slumped against one of the pathway's arches, each heaving a little bit for air. You would do the same, yet there's still the issue of how to proceed and keeping these two safe.

Your vision of the two becomes hazy, they're looking at you as if you're speaking to them yet the words don't really leave your mouth coherently.

"A-alrrrrrrrrrrigggggggihidhhjkgt girls, lll-ets'sssssss'''...s.stayyy.ys*$&((**@ *@*@*'""

The environment and your surroundings begin to distort in a colorful display of blinking lights and swirling patterns. Your sight is moving without your head, and an unrecognizable pattern of words begins to leave the area where the girls once stood. Then, your vision leaves you, as do the sounds you hear from where the girls once stood. Not long after your sense close off, so does your mind.

<April 16th, Monday 7:00 AM>

You snap awake in a slight fuss. There's a slight pain in your head, and a few beads of sweat are coming from your brows as you sit under your covers. Your hands go to caress the afflicted areas and you take a look at your surroundings to confirm that you're in your room.

One look at the slightly disheveled clothes on the floor and the empty cans of diet Coke tells you that you're indeed home. It's not however until you look to the side of your bed that you spot a shapely lump under the covers along your wall. Paula's naked body is facing you, with her arms stretched out to your side, yet she remains asleep.

'I'm not still dreaming right?'

You look around your apartment room again, and sure enough see a pair of panties lined alongside your own underwear along the bottom edge of your bed. Paula's own muffled groans stir to your side, and you begin to remember what had happened that night. You had stopped to CVS on the way back, you arrived home and then...

<Last Night>

"Watch your step, it's a little cramped in here," you told Paula, as you opened the door to let her in first.

You were both a little wet from the rain outside, as it had yet to stop since you had arrived back from Yukino's home, so you could still hear a bit of the splash in Paula's shoes as she took them off after coming in. You moved in, alongside her, closing the door as you went to take your own shoes off.

"Didn't tell me you were living so close to Chinatown," Paula says, moving forward and looking around your room, "Maybe we should stop for some fried rice there sometime, there's this nice little place by one of the bus stops that makes some of best in the city."

As you head inside the room itself, you notice that Paula's curious gaze quickly falls on your window. She's quickly parting the curtains to get a better look outside, and sees an all too familiar sight to you. It's a brick wall, standing next to one of the other apartment sites beside your own. It stood there to remind of you how far you'd managed to get, and how little it may have ultimately mattered. You can't see it, but you sense a very downcast gaze growing on her face. This is only made worse as you hear her sobbing a little.

"Hey Paula, are you ok?", you say, moving closer to her, "I get I'm not on a good financial end, but it's not as bad as..."

She turns to look at you, and you see that her tears are beginning to line up her face. The downcast expression is there, yet you almost see a part of her lips being bitten into, as if she's trying to hold any more of herself back.

"I never knew," she says to you, moving closer, "you were living like this Erick. Night after night...I thought you might have been better off than me even...but..."

You can hear hear voice break a little as she says this. Is she taking pity on you?

"I can't bear to see someone as good as you in a place as sad as this, not after tonight...so...please let me help you, ok...?"

"What are you...", you start before she pulls you in for a deep kiss. You're almost gasping for air, taken by surprise, before you return it back in kind. You don't know how long you both stood there, before Paula pulled you the bedside.

That night, you were both tired, cold and melancholic after Gantz's ordeal, yet for a few hours, you at least had each other.

<Today>

It was supposed to be a good memory, a nice piece of your mind that would be treasured between the two of you. Yet, you couldn't recall much more before your own mind became disheveled like your room. You couldn't really say, but you felt like there was something keeping you from it...

Paula's own groans and stirring shake you from the recall. Perhaps it's time to...

There is a serene calm to the way Paula sleeps. How her breathing matches the rise of of her chest slightly above the covers, and how her hair isn't as disheveled as your own following the night's tryst. You taken in the sight for a few moments before decides to ease your way out of bed, as to not disturb her.

Your bare feet touch the ground and you start looking near your bed for that underwear. Boxer briefs, in a generic gray color, makes your lower body decent as you head towards the fridge. There's still enough orange juice and milk to see if you can't whip yourselves up something for the morning. You also spot a bit of sausage and eggs remaining.

'Guess it's standard faire for this morning.'

You go to start up the stove when you spot something very familiar on the kitchen table. It's the note you were issued yesterday, as the FBI's logo and signature clearly remind you. Before you can think of what to do with it, a slight shuffling of sheets takes your attention towards your bed. Paula's sitting half awake in your bed, naked and making a cute yawn as she's looking around to find you. Given the compactness of the apartment, it only takes a second for her to home in.

"Good morning, you making breakfast there big guy...?", Paula states, before she trails off looking at you, "You're looking a little scared there Erick, what's wrong?"

"I forgot all about it honestly," you state, holding up the paper with a worried smile, "The FBI and all that. It almost feels like-"

"FBI? Oh shit," Paula interrupts, quickly moves from your bed, not even caring if she's naked, to look for for her clothes, "We got to get to the station right now. What time is it? Fuck it, don't say anything, we're probably late already."

"Wait what about the...", you start before Paula puts a finger to your lips. She's made it to her underwear and bra, but the sight is still a little surreal to you.

"I need to get my badge back first," Paula explains, looking at you intently, "these people probably aren't gonna listen to a civilian anyways. Come on, we're losing time already."

Paula's already to her pants as you go to put away your ingredients.

'Looks like breakfast will have to wait...'

There's still other unfinished business on your end though...

<April 16th, Monday 7:40 AM>

"When did you needed to be there exactly?", you say with a slight worry in your voice as you make your way to the police HQ. The amount of traffic this morning, coupled with the slight anxiety over the notice, was only making your driving and mindset a little more shaken.

"About 45 minutes ago," Paula states, putting her phone back in her pocket and taking a small sigh, "just keep your eyes on the road Erick. The sooner we get there, the closer we'll get to resolving two of these issues."

"Are they gonna place you on assignment after you get it back," you reply, stopping at a red light, "because, it's not gonna make training sessions any easier if they have you back on a schedule."

"They won't do it immediately," Paula replies back, as the light turns green and you push onward, "but it will be more difficult to come to the sessions. Don't worry Erick, I'll practice on my own time, so don't think about me getting rusty."

"Alright, but what about the station itself," you state, making a curve towards the street that runs straight to the headquarters, "I figure you want me to drop you off, but what after then?"

"After that, get some breakfast, and meet me near the front doors of the station," she says, smiling at you, a bit of the edge gone from her voice, "This is between me and them Erick, so don't worry too much for a bit."

She places her left hand on your right, and you feel that familiar reassurance from her. You take note of her words and continue making your way towards the station.

<April 16th, Monday 8:20 AM>

You find a small parking space near a waffle-house a block down the station itself and put your car on the meter. You dropped Paula off near the front to make sure she doesn't lose more time as per her instructions, and you're heading to get something to eat.

The indoor decor of the restaurant looks rustic and quaint, yet nostalgic of similar restaurants you've been to in DC. You head to the counter and order your meal.

You look over the selection wondering what you should choose. There's quite a bit of a selection here in spite of the name on the front implying it to be just a waffle-house.

"I'll take the French Toast, with two eggs and bacon, scrambled please!," a voice in front of you says excitedly to the register, "And I'll take a thing of orange juice with that. Thank you very much."

There's a moment of confusion as you realize that someone not only took your spot at the front, but managed to order something before you. There's a growing vein of frustration in your head, and take a step forward to the young white lady that took your place.

"Didn't your parents teach you it's rude to take someone's spot in line?," you say to her as she turns around and you stop for a moment, "Wait a minute...don't I know you from somewhere?"

"Huh? You're gonna have to refresh my memory," she states, looking quizzically at you, handing the register her credit card, "Wait...are you that jogger I hit on a couple of days ago?"

"Caroline...right?", you warily say, before the girl raises her eyebrows at you. The register gives her card back to her, and she steps to the side. She looks a little annoyed at you, and you realize that perhaps that wasn't her name.

"It's Allie, mister," she says, looking at you wish some incredulous eyes, "But I couldn't remember your name either so, I guess it's fair game. Though, you look like that guy in the hoodie from a couple of weeks ago..."

"It's not me, and don't say that so loudly so the whole place can hear you," you reply back, looking back at the register and getting your order of OJ, eggs and bacon, "I'm honestly kind of sick of thinking about that."

"Why's that, it's not like you've been there or been involved with it," she says, with a joking smile, "Did you know someone at the explosion or are you just naturally curious?"

There's a slight pause at your own thoughts before you reply.

'Who is this girl?', your thoughts begin swarming in to a few theories, 'Is the appearance what she's focusing on or is there something else she knows about the explosion as well? She couldn't possibly be working wi-'

"Sorry, I'll have to decline unfortunately," you state, and she furrows her brows at you slightly, "Maybe another time, if you're in the area."

"No, that's perfectly fine," she replies, a little saddened by your choice, but then you feel her slip something into your jacket pocket, "But, let's keep in touch if you're available and I remain curious. Hey crew chief! Make that meal to go, I need to head out of here in a bit!"

Her shouts are heard by the kitchen staff and the tallest of them nods in acknowledgement. You see her take a table near the front, most likely to pick up her food and go. She's no longer looking at you as you go to pay for your food. As you head out to your table, you see her food arrive at the register, and she leaves almost immediately.

You don't see much of her after that but you do take a look at the thing she slipped to your pocket. It's a white, double sided business card that carries the name: Allie Pierce along with her phone number and her email address on the back. <April 16th, Monday 9:30 AM>

You've been paging through what seems like 20 directories and search screens looking for any information about this photojournalist, yet for the last hour you've yet to bring up anything on her. Her email is real enough, as it's listed under one of the google directories you've looked through, but you don't really seem much of anything else. The email itself didn't have a time or date of creation, though you imagine this is probably as a result of Google becoming cautious with their information policy.

You eventually put your phone away in defeat, or rather momentary retreat. Whoever this woman is, there's certainly a lot of mystery to her if she's a reporter or any sort of journalist. This could also mean that whatever that bump was during your jog, probably wasn't as incidental as you thought. You imagine her information isn't part of a public record or easy to dig up if she's a private enterprise, but then again...

'Don't reporters usually want to be found?'

You decide to dwell on it later you head over to the station, and begin to think on other issues you may not have time for today. You pull up your phone again, as you reach the station and park yourself near the front. You dial Carol's number, and hear a couple of tones before she finally answers on the third.

"Erick, you're lucky I'm in homeroom right now," you hear Carol speak, hushedly over the line, "What do you want?"

"I can call you another time," you let her know, looking over to the police HQ entrance to see if Paula's heading out, "Just wanted to check how you're feeling after yesterday, to see if you're alright and all."

There's some background noise of what you can only guess are her classmates, probably nagging and teasing her about who she's on the phone with. Carol just ignores them and speaks up when they're not as loud.

"I'm fine, just...", she replies with some effort, and you then hear a bell in the background, "shit, I'll talk to you later. Just come with Paula the next time you want to talk, alright?"

She hangs up the phone abruptly after that comment. You're somewhat taken aback by her almost dismissing response, but you sensed a bit of concern in her voice as well. You don't imagine trauma like that going away with just one talk session, but that's not going to stop you or Paula from trying to help her through this.

<April 16th, Monday 10:00 AM>

You spot Paula coming up one of the sides of the police headquarter,s a few feet from the main office. She's got a black dufflebag, and a serious look on her face as she makes her way to you. Paula signals to you to open the back, which you comply and she subsequently stuffs the large dufflebag inside. Soon enough, she makes her way inside.

"In their infinite wisdom, the upper brass of the Washington Metropolitan Police Department has decided to give me a chaperone for a few weeks," she states with an very annoyed tone while putting on her seat-belt, "I'm good, but they still want to keep an eye out on me and issued me a partner on my routes."

She takes a deep sigh as you head out of the station's front.

"I trust breakfast went a bit better?"

"You're not serious right?" Paula states while rubbing her face with her palm, "We've got enough problems already, we don't need a damn reporter on our case. You didn't talk with her right? And by that I mean, say anything really incriminating right?"

"No, nothing of the sort," you reply, as an SUV aggressively passes you, "She made the offer, I said no, she slipped me her card, and I never saw her again. Though, what's bothering me is how coincidental this all sounds."

"Why do you say that?", she says, pulling the business card from your jacket and looking it over, "looks about normal to me honestly. Though, that business about not finding her on the record sounds pretty fishy."

"Yeah, you tell me," you reply, looking past the next few cars, "so, where did you say we were going again? You said your friend was out near Lafayette, but how close to the main building are we getting? I don't think we have clearance to be entering a White House building."

"He should be waiting near the south edge of the park," Paula says as she places the business card back to your pocket and looks out the window, "He's not affiliated with any government organization or anything, he's a friend of my dad."

<April 16th, Monday 10:30 AM>

You arrive near one the southern edge of the park just overlooking the White House. The great April sun contrasts your previous evening's dreary thunderstorm as you try to find Paula's friend. In spite of the beautiful scenery itself, there's not too many people out here besides the odd jogger or small tour group.

"There!," Paula exclaims, and points to the far end of the gated grass-way to a man with a blue tie and a suitcase, "His name is Walter Conway, he used my dad's old Navy medic. Be on your best behavior and bring the note with you."

You pull up to the man and Paula motions him inside. He's snug in your passenger seat and places his suitcase on the other side.

"Good morning, young lady," Walter says, looking at Paula who returns the greeting, "And good morning to you too, young man. I trust you'll be my ride to the airport?"

"Good morning sir," you state, with Paula giving you a thumbs up at following her lead, "Don't worry, we'll make your flight at Reagan."

You take a slow start out of the park's southern end, making sure to keep your car as close to the rotunda as possible. Once you're out into the main road, there's an audible sigh from the back seat as Walter unlocks part of his suitcase and hands Paula a piece of paper.

"You won't believe what those cucks over at the lawn will do to keep my ass on their side of the fence," Walter states with a very crass tone, and then looks at you, "How are you doing Erick? Paula's told me a little bit, but I'm not sure I know the full story. It was the WalMart Supercenter, at the toiletries isle right?"

"Uh, yeah that's where we first met," you say, looking at Paula and she gives you look of approval, "though, I thought Paula said you're not affiliated with a government organization."

"He's technically not, he's just one of the main contractors for the White House", Paula states, looking over the papers she was handed, "He sells them their lawn ornaments, gardening supplies, grass seed..."

"Oh enough about my business venture," Walter states, slapping his suitcase shut, "It seems you, young man, have an issue with the feds. You had a note for me, right?"

You quickly open up the glove-box and hand him the FBI's letter. He takes out a pair of reading glasses and takes to the notice in very detailed gazes. It doesn't take him too long before he replies back, and locks the notice in his suitcase.

"I've got a friend in congress who may be able to do something about this," he says, looking at you, "I'll make a copy and send you the original once I get back from my flight. For now though, keep a low profile young man, because there's lot's of people watching you."

"You're dad sends his regards on your assignment, though he was worried when he found out about the parole," Walter says to Paula, as you approach the main service road for the airport, "Did they really suspect you two for that explosion?"

"Yeah, it was a pain in the ass when it happened but we're dealing with it at the moment," Paula replies, looking at you, "And tell dad if you see him that I'm still sticking to my guns. I'll call him if I REALLY need him."

"Don't worry, I'll keep in touch," Walter states, and then looks at you again, "And you don't worry either, I won't tell Mr. Torrez about you just yet. Though, just make sure you're keeping her happy, alright?"

You notice a glint of malicious intent at the end of his voice. You only nod in reply and make a stop to the side of the airport's entrance. Walter moves his suitcase out of your car and waves you both off as he heads for the airport entrance. Paula then motions to one of the papers Walter handed to her, before stuffing them in the glove box.

"Look these over when you get home," Paula says, looking at you turn the car to the other side, "If any police head to your home in the next few weeks, just flash them one of the notices. They'll either call their commander, and they'll say to leave, or just leave on the spot."

"How well connected is your father?", you blindly ask, to which Paula only looks at you, "Cause, I get the feeling he's not just into banking..."

"When you have as much money as he does, you get to know a lot of people," Paula answers, a bit of a daft grin on her face, "Hell, even I don't know all of his people honestly. Probably wants to keep me out of the loop considering his ventures. Anyways, where are we off to now?"

You take a small token from your pocket and look over it as you make your way out of the airport's main road. Paula's looking over it as well, and points out to the numbers on it.

"Social security, my dad has that on his dog-tags as well," Paula says, looking over to you, "I can go with you to the base where he stationed at, but do you think they'll accept them if you just hand them over?"

"Dante said he would inform Kurtis's family about what happened," you state, looking back at the main road, "I'll put in a word at the military base or wherever he was previously posted in. He retired, so maybe it's not as difficult as we're making it sound."

"It wasn't your fault Erick," Paula states, yet the words hurt so much more coming from her, "It could have happened to anyone, even if it wasn't your plan."

"So talking about less serious stuff," you say attempting to divert from the topic, looking towards the main road, "When will you return to action? Shouldn't you get ready to get back to the force today? Also do you already know who is going to be your 'partner'?."

"Well, less serious to more aggravating," Paula sighs, and looks to side window, "they'll have me set up tomorrow as a result of the little chaperone issue. As for who it will be, he's one of the seniors from District 1, real hardass named Luis Serros. Guess they wanted to keep this one close to their chest."

"Well, they said it was only for a few weeks didn't they?," you tell Paula, and she gives you slight smile and sigh, "though, with the whole Gantz situation...I'm not sure on a lot of things either..."

"Hey now, it's all in perspective," Paula says, looking back at you with a slight smile, "We'll make it through, even if we have to have a...few...close calls."

'Yeah...' you think, looking over the dog tags again, 'but how many more chances are we going to get...'

"If we do this...", Paula says very seriously, and you turn your head to look at her, "do you think he'll still have a life, even if he's revived?"

"He's never going to get another chance if we keep second guessing ourselves about it," you firmly say, and put the dog tags away, "At our next hundred points, we'll bring him back. Though, check the news for any shootings in case something comes up."

Paula looks at you with reassuring glance, and starts looking through news articles on her phone. Before long, she manages to find a couple of articles and starts reading them over to you.

"WalMart held at gunpoint by three black males, believed to be members of the Blood criminal family," Paula states, rolling her eyes at the news, "armed robbers escape, but one body is found with several gunshot wounds. Money was taken from him, no sign of the other two."

"Guess we know where our friends in red were up to," you state very matter of factly, and head back to the main road, "Anything about what happened to Kurtis?"

"Not yet, but I think I found Yukino...", Paula starts reading again, "Young girl said to have disappeared after falling from the second floor of Pentagon City. Police still combing the scene, yet believe the event was a case of mutual mass hysteria given no evidence present."

"Whatever Gantz is doing, it appears it can't erase memories or visual recognition," you observe from her reading, "Though, it still sounds so strange that so many of the deaths can occur in such a small period of time..."

"Wait, I think I found him, but there's nothing mentioning his name," Paula says, as she begins reading again, "Young woman assaulted in Woodridge Park claims a young, bearded man gave his life to save her from two assailants. No body has been found yet, but it is believed the criminals may have disposed of the body themselves."

"No way...", you say with relief and awe in your voice, "There's a chance, we can still save him..."

Paula looks at you with a look of fierce determination, and you return it back to her. As you head down the midday DC road, a powerful sense of duty fills your head.

'Don't worry soldier, you're not dead yet.'

"Arboretum Raided," Paula reads, scrolling the article down, "Vandalism in the DC area escalates as an emergency response team was attacked by unseen assailants at the National Arboretum. No injuries were reported by the team, but medical equipment and a firetruck were hijacked in the ensuing chaos."

"Damage sustained to the National Columns overlooking the hillside of the Arboretum is estimated to over $700,000, yet all other damage to the park itself was minimal. Still no word on the assailants whereabouts following the attack."

A look of slight shame and partial worry build on your face, which is followed by an audible sigh from Paula. Keeping your foot on the brake as you're both stuck in the midday rush, you've been listening to a string of news articles from Paula following your inquire towards Kurtis's death. "We can be sure that they will be safe at their new homes overlooking the Washington and Lincoln Memorials respectively," Paula continues the article, and the traffic gets moving a little bit, "Though the cathedral is an open religious temple, the statues of the christian archangels, Michael, Uriel, Raphael, and Gabriel will act as our loved presidents' replacements courtesy of the now late Rodrigo V. Wallace."

"They commissioned new statues for a cathedral in one of the more cynical places in the world," you retort somewhat jokingly, "and my managers say that I have bad ideas. Why'd you choose that one in particular?"

"My dad was a big catholic when I was growing up," Paula states, still looking at the article, "and he would always take me and my mom to Italy and France to see the big Cathedrals there. I think he may have been thinking of it as a sort of pilgrimage."

"That sounds incredible, but you don't really strike me as a very religious person Paula," you state, and she looks at you with a slight grin, "Well, it at least got my mind out of this raw deal with the feds. You doing anything else today, I don't want to seem like I'm imposing on your time."

"It's fine Erick, I got nothing to do today anyways besides getting that dufflebag in my closet," she replies, and reclines a little on your set, "Just let me know where we're off to now. I'm getting hungry, and I'm sure you are as well."

"Yeah, I'd be up for some lunch right about now," you say and then sigh in relief as the traffic finally begins to move forward, "Hey, why don't we invite Yukino and her father long with us? He still seemed like he wanted to talk earlier, and we should start coming up with an excuse for taking Yukino out to the training areas."

"Good idea, but isn't she at school right now?" Paula says, and you slightly deflate from your plan, "Hey, don't get like that. We can at least go check up on her, though we should talk to her father first about this."

You nod in agreement, and you move your car forward from the mob of vehicles surrounding you.

<April 16th, Monday 12:45 PM>

You arrive at the Bader Condominium after a slight slog through the midday traffic. After parking your car on the curb, you both move inside of the large apartment building. The main foyer is almost spotless, as you see new furniture line up a lounge area near the entrance. Paula catches you looking at the opulent interior and pulls you awake to a receptionist desk and what looks like a buzzer.

"Hello and welcome to Bader, are you looking to rent or-," the person behind the desk greets, yet Paula doesn't allow him to finish.

"Is Ulrich Klein here? I'm Paula and he's Erick, we're family friends and are stopping by for lunch," Paula declares to him, and you shake your head in unison. The receptionist eyes you both, and places a hand on a telephone near that strange buzzer you saw.

"Mr. Klein, there are two here to see you," the receptionist states, while holding the phone, "Yes, Paula and Erick....Huh? Alright, I'll send them in."

The receptionist puts the phone down and motions you both to an elevator near the far end of the lounge. Its brass doors shine in spite of the scratches and dents they have.

"Floor five, first door down the hall," he states, and presses the buzzer and the elevator doors open up.

You both thank the receptionist and head to the elevator. After keying in the floor, it begins to ascend.

"Alright, what's the plan then," Paula asks, while looking at you, "Any excuse to convince a man that almost lost his daughter to go with some strangers to death game training ground?"

'She makes it sound so easy...'

You know what don't do it. It would be fun to see Yukino's dad and Paula's reaction, but it sounds to weird.

"He's a single father, so I'm gonna guess he's got plenty on his plate on top of looking after Yukino," you think out loud, and Paula's following you intently, "We can invite him to dinner later today, and see if we can't convince him then to have us look after Yukino on the times he's away. We can work something about the schedules later."

"Never figured you as a nanny Erick," Paula states, looking at you with a sly smile, "Alright, it's a good a plan as any I suppose. Let's hope you're right in that assumption though."

The elevator makes a *ding* as it stops on the fifth floor, and its doors open. You both head out to the hallway, and to the first door next to the elevator as per the receptionist's directions. The hallway itself if carpeted lusciously, and carries the building's signature logo emblazoned in the middle of the hall. You only get a glimpse of the luscious interior before both you and Paula are standing before Mr. Klein's door.

You press the door bell and, within a few seconds, you hear a pair of footsteps coming closer on the other side. The door opens to reveal Yukino's father looking somewhat surprised yet very much pleased to see you both. He's sporting a business suit, and tie, along with a black brief bag on his side.

"Hey! I was hoping to see you guys back someday," he speaks up, heading out of the door to give you both a hand, "Wish it was at a better time though, I am actually on my way out for lunch and picking up my daughter from school. Yukino won't stop talking about you in particular Officer Torrez."

"Oh no, don't worry if it's a bad time," Paula says, shaking his hand, "We can come back at any time, it's just we were hoping to see if you had any dinner plans for today. My boyfriend and myself were thinking we could talk more with you and Yukino, though if it's a bad time now-"

"Do you have plans now?", he replies, shaking your hand now, "I'm heading out to pick up Yukino for lunch. Her middle school lets her out at 1:15 today, so we always have lunch around this time. Would you care to join us, time allowing of course?"

"We'd love to join you actually," you reply back, eliciting a similar reply from Paula, "Though, you'll have to let us know where the locale is. Unless of course, you want us to follow you to Yukino's school."

"No, that won't be necessary," he says, and makes his way to the elevator, with you both following close behind, "I rarely get to see her too much during the week, much less pick her up, so I'll have to decline. As for the restaurant, are you two familiar with Grillfish?"

<April 16th, Monday 1:30 PM>

After giving you the directions, and his contact information, Mr. Klein had seen the two of you off as he went to pick up Yukino at her school. The change in plan was certainly welcome to you both, as you drove to the restaurant where Mr. Klein had shown. For all of the worry and sadness Yukino had described about her father, you had both seen someone that seemed to care much for his daughter, though you each wished this would prove true at lunch.

After parking the car nearby, you both made your way to the restaurant's entrance. It looked finely rustic, displaying it's gray and almost scrawled sign out on the front.

"You think Klein included us in his reservation?", Paula asks, looking at the interior of the restaurant. "Want to give him a call before we head in?"

"I'm sure it's fine, it doesn't seem like one those restaurants honestly," you reply, and then see Mr. Kleinz's Lexus make it's way towards the restaurant. It pulls up to the street, and a small Japanese girl on the passenger seat waves to you both from the inside. The driver window drops down, and you hear a click as the car doors are unlocked.

"I'll drop her off with you guys for a bit," Mr. Klein says, as Yukino makes her way out of the door, "Find us a table, and don't let her out of your sight. I'll be right back after I park the car."

Yukino waves to her dad as he speeds off to find a parking space. She then turns to you both and gives Paula a surprising hug. Paula's a little surprised at the show of affection, yet she returns it back in kind.

'There's no way this is the same girl from the night before,' you think to yourself as Yukino pulls away from the hug. Yukino then turns to you, and gives you an expectant look.

A part of you wishes to revive that old Rocket Power traditional greeting that never really caught on in the 90s, yet you relent. Not on the grounds that she'll think you're autistic, but more on the fact that she'll probably not even understand. You extend your open palm to Yukino, lowering it slightly so she can reach your slight show of affection. There's a slight pause as she looks you over, and then firmly slaps your palm with her own. The impact is surprisingly loud, yet it doesn't hurt as Yukino's hands are quite soft.

"You've got a mean hit there Yukino," you say, as she smiles at you, "You think it runs in your family? Your dad has a mean handshake as well."

"Maybe, though, I'm honestly more happy about seeing you guys again," she says, looking at you both, "When my dad said you'd join us for lunch, I freaked out a little. But then I got better, and I got you two something!"

Paula and you look at each other with a surprised gaze while Yukino looks through her pocket for something. After a bit of effort, she pulls out a small, black smart phone and shows it to you both. It looks like one of the new model Androids, yet it's slightly more compact.

"Dad got it for me the morning afterwards," Yukino says, unlocking the phone, "Said to use it for emergencies and in case I get lost again. I'll get you both in my contacts, so you guys can call for me whenever you need help again with those aliens again."

"That's awesome Yukino," Paula says, and the gives you a knowing nod, "here, let's get each other added at the table. Your dad must trust you a lot to give you that."

"He's probably more scared that'll I'll die again," she says, a little too nonchalantly at Paula, "But I guess he must after he told me to take good care of it. By the way, do you know if they have eel here?"

<April 16th, Monday 1:40 PM>

The server's found you all a seat for 4 near back. After looking over the menu, and slightly cringing at the prices here, Mr. Klein arrives and sits at the chair across from you, and let's you know that the meal will be on him this time as a small thank you for your help in finding his daughter. Paula almost tries to argue against it, but you manage to hold her to gratitude.

"So then, you're both together," Mr. Klein states, with Yukino listening close, "how did you two meet up, exactly?"

"It was more of a continuous case of chance encounters really," you start, and trust Paula to follow along with you, "I'm an assistant manager at Wal-Mart you see, and she was a regular at our store for a while now. This one time however, she was looking for a type of conditioner that wasn't in stock anymore."

"I have a sensitive scalp, so I can't use too much regular stuff," Paula says, giving you a slight wink, "and Wal-Mart has that kind cheaper than most places around DC, so I regularly go there."

"Now, here's the good part," you continue from Paula's statement, and Mr. Klein looks at you both intently, "Management doesn't like putting specialized product on the floor that much, the whole supply and demand thing. So, I go to the back and slash open a box of that conditioner, and get a bottle just for her."

"The kindest gesture ever done with a bottle of conditioner," Paula replies, and Yukino raises a bit of her brow at you, "not a second after he hands me the bottle, he asks me if I would like to head to dinner on the weekend. And so far, I never regretted saying yes."

Paula holds your hand tightly while looking at you. There's a twinge of longing in her eyes, in spite of the facetious story. You return it in kind.

"Life sure is a strange model of coincidence it seems," Mr. Klein says, looking at you both with a warm smile, "I met Yukino's mother during a trip to Hokkaido. She was in bad spot with her father, and asked me to take her away in spite of not knowing too English at the time."

"It was fate, and the red string," Yukino interjects, looking at her father, "You never really know when things happen, but they happen anyways. Mom said that it was desperation born from fate that brought you together with her."

"Yeah, she sure spoke of that a lot when we met," Mr. Klein says, and gives Yukino a head-pat, to which she smiles under, "Anyways, you guys order yet?"

You hadn't ordered yet, but had a good idea on what to get after you saw the menu. Mr. Klein calls over the waiter, and he quickly jots down your orders. Yukino takes notice of your meal choice and gives you a small thumbs up. Paula's own order, a serving of boiled shrimp and sweet tea, is instead noticed by Mr. Klein, who only compliments her taste on a similar choice of shrimp to his own.

"While I trust you both to be in good taste for lunch," Mr. Klein starts, looking at you both with a more serious gaze, "You also mentioned that you wished to speak about my daughter. Why exactly?"

"It was actually something quite simple, Mr. Klein, we were- ," Paula starts, but Mr. Klein raises his hand and she immediately stops.

"Just call me Ulrich, Paula," he replies calmly, "we're both involved in criminal justice to some degree, but here we're as civilian as Yukino or Erick."

"Well, then, Ulrich," Paula states, and you listen intently, "You mentioned that you didn't have much time to spend with Yukino back home. Well, our proposition to you was, that either myself or Erick could serve as Yukino's sitters/nannies on our off time."

Ulrich is quizzically looking at you both with a tracing finger on the side of his head, as if he's trying to figure out if you're both genuine or not. Yukino on the other hand is almost beaming at the opportunity of this, looking at you both with saucer-like eyes.

"Well, that is certainly a simple request, but I have to ask first," Ulrich starts, looking at Paula intently, "what makes you so qualified to take care of my daughter. I trust you of course, yet I am not sure if I know what you can do."

"I've taken care of children before," Paula replies with confidence, "I lived with my little cousins for so long that I ended up calling them brothers. I cooked, I cleaned, and even taught them things out of school to help their mother through the week. Trust me, Ulrich, I know how to take care of children."

"Hmm, alright so it would seem," Ulrich pauses to scratch his chin, and then turns to you, "What about you Erick? Any experience with kids?"

"No, I actually don't know much about taking care of children," you state, with Paula and Ulrich giving you a stare, "However, I want to learn from this for when we do have children of our own."

Paula's face is every shade of surprised after you say this, with her almost uttering a 'Huh?!' from sheer shock. It takes almost a whole five seconds for her to regain her composure at your comment, yet you can still see her cheeks are red. Ulrich on the other hand lets out a small chuckle at the commotion from the other side of the table. Throughout all of this, you retain a very serious, stoic face in spite of your estranged comment.

Ulrich doesn't get to reply in full before your meals arrive to the table. The exquisite smell and texture of the salmon almost take your mind away from the important question at hand. Yukino retains that curious look on her face, while listening intently in this, which is culled by the arrival of her own meal.

"Yeah, let's eat," Yukino states, breaking up the strange silence on the table as she readies her utensils on her own salmon, "don't you have to be married to have babies though dad?"

"Ahaha, yeah most people are," Ulrich says, looking at the still somewhat embarrassed expressions on Paula's face and your own stoic expression, "Though, I think those two still have a long time before that happens. Either way, I don't think there's too much trouble with having you take care of Yukino if you're both capable enough."

"Y-yes, thank you very much sir," Paula replies, and only stares as her food as she says this, "Just hand us a schedule for when you want us over, and we'll be sure to h-help."

<April 16th, Monday 3:00 PM>

The rest of the dinner goes off without any large or surprising revelations. Ulrich gives you both a small planner on Yukino's allergies, favorite foods, and emergency contacts, as well as adding you both to his own contact list. Yukino is moreso excited, and adds you both to her own contact list. Before long, Yukino and Paula head to the restroom and you're left alone with Ulrich for a few minutes.

"You have a strong woman at your side, Erick," Ulrich comments, taking the last sip of his Lager, "I have never seen my Yukino so happy to start something in such a long time. What do you want her to see you as, Erick? Why did you want to help her like your girlfriend does?"

OOC: Holy fuck, I messed up with the last names. Ignore Klein, it's Palmer.

+1 Trust (Yukino Palmer)

"Paula's told me a lot about Yukino, and while I don't understand the whole extent of it, I wish to help her in another way, " you say, and Ulrich looks at you with some wariness, "We both see that she's in a great amount of pain Ulrich, and we each have our approach for helping her through it. She told us of what happened with your wife, and how Yukino's been dealing with it all."

Ulrich is almost glaring at you as you continue your reasoning. He puts his glass away, and folds his hands on the table to listen with full attention.

"I am not a psychologist, but I know how loss and pain can affect someone," you continue, meeting Ulrich's eyes with equal intent, "I merely want to help a child that's alone and sad beyond words. If you wish to refuse my help, I will understand but I want you to at least give me a chance to help."

Ulrich looks at you for a few good seconds before looking back at the restroom doors to see if the girls have returned. As he cannot find them, he turns back to you.

"Yukino is very strong in her mind, yet I fear for when her limit will be reached," Ulrich states, looking at you very seriously again, "I have tried with many others to help her, yet she's not taken to trusting many people that cannot get past her odd demeanor. Given her response to you and Paula, I can try to give you both a shot given her trust."

You nod in reply to his comment and he cuts you off before you say anything else.

"But please, keep her safe. Out of all of the heirlooms and tokens my wife left behind, she's the most precious of them all."

"You can trust us Ulrich," you state, taking the last sip of your own drink, "we won't let you down."

<April 16th, Monday 3:10 PM>

Ulrich Palmer departed with Yukino soon after paying the bill. Yukino looked excited to have you both as nannies for a good while, though only Paula, Yukino and yourself knew what the nanny sessions really were for. After you headed to the car, there was an sigh of content from Paula on the way back.

"I still can't believe you said that Erick," Paula states, still looking a little embarrassed, "I mean it worked, but I didn't think you'd go that far with it honestly."

"You said it yourself," you reply, somewhat smuggly as you reach the driver seat,"I worked didn't it. Besides, don't you eventually want to have some kids of your own Paula?"

"Christ you're unbelievable sometimes...", Paula almost stammers, while opening the co-pilot seat, "Just...let's just go already. You got something else in mind for the day Erick?"

"I think we should pay Tanjeet a visit," you say, starting up the car, "He seems like a good guy, but I don't think we're standing on the same foot at the moment."

"Alright, but give me a moment to find him," Paula replies, while pulling out her smartphone, "I don't remember his last name, but he does go to GW University so I can look him up through the directory."

"Great, and we should probably call Carol afterwards as well," you say, keeping focus on driving, "I think both of them could use a good talking honestly. Tanjeet especially, since I am not sure where we stand with him at the moment.

"Is it because of what he said at the end of the last mission?", Paula states, as you pull out of the curb you're parked on, "He only wants out of the game Erick, and I don't think it's a horrible idea given what goes on in there."

"It's not that Paula, I'm just concerned that Dante hasn't convinced him to come to the training sessions," you reply back, and then stop your train of thought, "Wait a minute, are you saying that you're gonna leave the game? But what about Kurtis and the hundred points?"

"I know that Kurtis is important, and we promised to get him back," Paula continues, as you head out to the main road, "I'm just saying that after we get him back, I don't think it's a bad idea to get out of the game while we can. Don't you want to leave as well?"

"Not yet, not without the others," you reply back with finality, "I can't leave them there to that game, knowing that the next hunt could be their last as well. I mean can you imagine what would happen with Yukino alone in that game? Or heck even Carol."

"I know that, but at the same time, I can't bear to be in there knowing that the same thing that happened to you last game is going to happen again," Paula says, a bit of sadness ebbing into her voice, "I want to help the others as well too, but I am afraid we may be in over our heads."

"I can't make you stay with me in there Paula," you say, as you make your way to the main road, "But, I have to do this as well. I don't owe them anything, yet I can't bear to see them die either. And, I know you can't bear to see that happen either."

"I...I know," Paula says, looking down at her feet, "I joined the force to make a difference in even the smallest part of this city. And if we have to save them as well, then so be it. I'll stand right there beside you Erick, but at the end of it all, we will go."

"I'm sorry Paula," you say, looking at her for a moment and seeing a tear leave her eye, "But, we will leave. I can promise you that much."

In spite of Dante's revelation on your first night, you had never set out with a goal towards Gantz. You figured there had to be more to it than that, yet for all that Dante knew, the ball itself remained simple to understand yet completely mysterious in what it did. If there was a way out, you would take it, and the entire team as well.

<April 16th, Monday 4:00 PM>

There was a thoughtful silence as you and Paula made your way to the GW Medical Building. You hadn't said much following your resolute declaration in the car, yet you knew that Paula was in agreement to your decision. It was only a matter of how she said it. After parking the car, and heading towards the main building, you and Paula were met with a lot of movement in the quaint hospital building.

There were many people here, many of them students and probably some real MDs for all you knew. Quickly making your way to the front desk, you asked for directions on where to find him.

"I'm sorry, but Tanjeet Deshpande has left for the day," the desk clerk lets you know, with Paula looking over her phone, "You may want to try back tomorrow at 8:00 AM if you wish, he's got a post-surgery instruction that day."

"No, that's fine, it won't be necessary," you reply back, leave the desk and head to Paula, "No good. Don't you have a police database for this kind of thing?"

"I'm not back in the system, and I need to be in an authorized computer to do that," Paula states, turning off her phone, "I don't know anyone here unfortunately, and I don't think the staff know what his usual route is. Do you think his classmates know where he is?"

You look around to see several dozens of would be doctors, interns and regular introductory students. Of the two years you spent wasting away at college, you've learned that the usually more repressed or easily beguiled members of the alumni, usually reside in this department. Hopefully, your past experience will reign true here.

Rolled 16 + 1 (1d20 + 1)

<April 16th, Monday 4:30 PM>

While you weren't the biggest social butterfly at your old university, it does say something about your abilities to get information from small talk to get a good lead in under 30 minutes. Or maybe you just got lucky to find someone from Tanjeet's class about to leave the building. Either way, you call Paula over to the front of the medical building and your contact.

"Yeah, Tanjeet's too serious to get to know really close, you know?," the the intern informs you and Paula, while looking over a text, "Medicine is supposed to be serious, but that guy, total buzzkill when it comes to starting anything. Didn't even go to Kyle's party after the exams, can you beli-"

"Just get to the point already," Paula interjects, earning a slight frown from the girl, "We just need to know where he is, and if you have a phone number it would even more helpful. I'm with the police, so I would rather you not waste our time at the moment."

"Let me a see a badge then officer-", the girl is starts and is quickly interrupted as Paula's badge leaves her pocket "Oh...well...I think I might know where he is, but just so you know, I'm don't want to get involved in whatever trouble he's in..."

'Trust me,' you think, and Paula flashes a smile and puts away her badge, 'you're lucky to not even know.'

<April 16th, Monday 5:00 PM>

The girl, named Ashley, was one of Tanjeet's acquaintances that goes to his surgical med classes, and only really knew of him as a result of popularity in the class itself. According to her assumptions, Tanjeet heads to a Best Buy to hang out with one of his friends there after classes are over. Though, she claims to only know this as a result of

"Seems like a strange place to hang out honestly," Paula comments, passing through the automatic doors, "Did you ever do this when you went to college? Or were you one of those heavy, social party people?"

"I was actually a little more socially active back in college," you state, with Paula giving you a look which you return with a grin, "partied so goddamn hard Paula back then. Why do you think I'm stuck working at Wal-Mart?"

"You were that crazy back then?", she asks, somewhat shocked as you nod your head, "Gotta say, you kind of had me fooled for the shy loner type. Though it would explain how you can handle that many people in the room so well, along with Dante."

"Most of the time, I was the one organizing those parties, so I guess the experience came from there," you reply, which only causes Paula to look at you more surprised, "But, all of the logistical planning and party perfection eventually hit my grades. Though, appropriately enough, WalMart's managers knew me well enough from my constant trips there that I managed to land a job there."

"That's the story of Erick Vanders then?," Paula says, chuckling in amusement, "No sob story about how you were ostracized by your peers or some allegory for why your parents couldn't afford another semester? Just some guy who partied himself out of school?"

"Well, there's more to it but that's the short version," you say, somewhat taken aback by her comment, "A year after that happened, I moved here after I got assigned as assistant manager."

"Can't really say the same about myself, but I guess it's part of that strange rule of attraction," she says, moving towards the customer service section, "you're a fool, but a good hearted person nonetheless. I like that quite a bit."

<April 16th, Monday 4:35 PM>

After asking the customer service associate on the whereabouts of Tanjeet, he points you towards the back of the computer aisle. After thanking the associate, you head in that direction, while also trying to find the right words to convince and talk to Tanjeet about the game itself. Arriving in the aisle, you find him talking to a Geek Squad member near one of the monitor displays.

'Let's see if we can't make this simple.'

"Hey Tanjeet, what's up man!", you shout to get his attention, to which he responds quickly enough, "Hey Ashley sent us your way, looking to see if you were interested in her new party this weekend."

Paula turns her head to you and then quickly duplicates a cocky smile to match your own. She's caught on to your ruse, but it looks like Tanjeet is somewhat confused by your initial statement. His friend on the other hand...

"Dude, you didn't tell me Ashley invited you to Heist's this weekend!" the Geek Squad member states, looking back at you, "You think you can hook me up? Only med students get to go to her parties, but if you-"

"You know I don't go to parties," Tanjeet retorts, and then keeps his gaze on you, "But, if my good friend Erick here has something to say about it, maybe I might change my mind. It's important for Ashley, right?"

It doesn't take a genius to notice the social queues in his face as he says this to you. You motion to Paula, and she goes to front of the store to wait for you both outside. You hadn't discussed a plan earlier, but coming up with this on the fly wasn't too difficult.

"Oh yeah man, you bet it is," you continue to state in your party-hound voice, motioning to Paula, "Of course, it's for your ears only right now, so your friend there has to wait. No offense big guy, but Ashley's rules on a ear-to-ear basis, you understand."

"Don't worry Mattie, you'll see some action by the weekend," Tanjeet says, going to entrance with you, "Just stay put for a bit."

You hear a small sigh of dejection from the Geek Squad member, Mattie apparently, as you and Tanjeet head outside to discuss the hunts.

<April 16th, Monday 4:45 PM>

"That had to be the dumbest thing I think I've seen you do yet," Tanjeet says, as you and Paula are leaned on the Best Buy's side wall far from the parking lot, "Criticism aside however, what do you guys need from me? I said I was gonna help you out already, so why interrupt my time again?"

'We're doing you a favor man, you could act a little more thankful.'

"I know Dante spoke briefly about the game itself, but we think there's a few more things you need to know before the next mission," you state, with Paula nodding in unison to your comment, "You're free to ask any questions you want, but I can't say we'll be able to answer everything. Even we don't know some things about that ball."

"Fine," he lets out a sigh, and looks seriously at you both, "but if we're doing this, let's be brief about it. I have to get home before too long."

"Fair enough," Paula replies, looking back at him with an equally serious face, "Let's start then."

<April 16th, Monday 5:15 PM>

You and Paula divulge everything you know so far about Gantz and the game that you know will help Tanjeet. The weekly timer, the bombs in your heads, how the teleporter works, the child in the ball, the fact it only stays in DC and even a slight theory you have regarding the scoring system are all explained to Tanjeet. He listens intently throughout it all and only stops you to ask the odd question, most of which you're unable to answer at the time.

Of the questions he does ask, one of them you manage to formulate a slight idea on how it might work.

"As far we know, whatever Gantz does to determine who it brings in," you note to Tanjeet, "it only seems to do it later in the day. It's a pattern Paula and myself noticed, after we died at a similar time of day, being the late afternoon."

"So then it's most likely not how a person dies, but when...", Tanjeet questions, and then takes his hand from his chin, "And you're sure you don't remember anything else that may have a connection or link as to why you were chosen by that thing?"

"Look Tanjeet, we can speculate about this thing for the rest of night," Paula interjects, looking a little tired from all of the questions, "but the point is we're just as lost on all of the details about it as you are. What matters now is whether or not we can prepare for what will happen ahead."

"It's important to me though...I don't like being in the dark about something," Tanjeet says with slight frustration, and you try to smile to cheer him up, "Alright, so what do you have planned then?"

"Dante and myself organize training sessions for the group," you reply to Tanjeet, "We use them to prepare for the next hunt. Since we don't know what we're gonna hunt next time, the most we can do is get to know our gear, get stronger, and improve our teamwork. Our next one will be..."

"I'm not too sure about everyone schedules yet," you start, "but we're to meet at Diamond Auto Parts around this time to get familiarized with each other. Teamwork got us through the last hunt, so it'll be better if we're coordinated for the next."

"Hmm, yeah this time can work fine with me actually," Tanjeet says, pondering in his head, "I have no classes on any of my days past four but I am booked in the mornings. I can't say I like this, but we can't exactly escape from this without those precious little points. Either way, just make sure to let me know beforehand, alright?"

"We sure will, and hopefully you brought back your gear with you," you state, to which Tanjeet nods, "Then we've got nothing to really worry about. Just be on time, otherwise you'll miss dinner with us; we sometimes like to bring food for before we start our training."

"Hey Tanjeet! What's the word, are we in or are we out?!", you hear Mattie yelling from the front of the Best Buy and interrupting your train of thought. Tanjeet glares under his gaze and turns his head back to him with a pleasant smile.

"I'll be back in a second with the verdict man, just give me a few more seconds!", he replies back, to which his friend turns back into the store with a thumbs up, and then Tanjeet turns his head to you, "I'll be there next time, just text me when in the week we'll me up. You got my contact, but for now, I gotta run."

Tanjeet leaves for the inside of the Best Buy in a quickened pace. Yet before he heads inside, Paula calls out to him for a second.

"I never got to say it before the mission ended", she says, and Tanjeet looks back to nod his head, "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. Thank you Tanjeet, you and Erick saved my life."

Tanjeet smiles at her and nods his head in acknowledgment and pride. Not a second later, he dissapears behind the automatic doors. It occurred to you that, you had yet to say your 'thank you' to him either for what he did for Paula.

'Maybe, there'll be another time we can repay the favor...'

"That was easier than I thought actually...", Paula says, still looking in the direction of the Best Buy, "Alright, where to now Erick, or do you want to call it day for the moment?"

<April 16th, Monday 5:30 PM>

You called Carol to meet you both to discuss the events of what occurred last night as well as to check up on her current mental state. You don't mention the last part to her, but you do mention that Paula will be arriving with you. She accepts, but decides to have you meet with her at her house since her brother and grandmother will be away visiting a relative for the day.

You both accept her terms, but Carol says she'll only speak to Paula in person and refuses to speak to her over the phone. In spite of her slightly hostile tone, she say's she'll have tea ready for when you both arrive.

As you pull up to the Adam's residence, in all of its ghetto glory. You see the lights are on through the windowed blinds, showing that Carol must be waiting in the living room. Both of you head make your way to the doorbell, and and hear the skittering of paws behind the door along with several growling barks after the doorbell rings. You hear Carol's voice, shouting at the probably large dog behind the doors, and a few sad yips at it moves away from it.

"Hey, sorry about that, Abe doesn't expect new visitors," Carol says, as she opens the door, "Come on in, I'll serve you guys. Grandma taught me how to be a good host, so don't worry too much."

Both you enter, and see that in spite of the dilapidated exterior, the house itself looks surprisingly clean. The floorboards are worn, the furniture is scratched, and the walls look underpainted, but the interior looks somewhat rustic from what you expected. You pick a spot on one of the sofas, and Paula sits next to you as Carol returns with some cups and a kettle.

"Never actually done this, you know," Carol says, as she places the cups and kettle on the wooden coffee table between the sofas, "Served people at our house. Almost makes me forget why you're here really..."

Both you and Paula look at each other, as Carol meticulously serves you each a similar amount. She doesn't spill a single drop as she does this, and manages to keep the cups from moving.

'She's got perfect form, but we should really get started.'

"Carol, I know it's not an easy thing to talk about, but we're here to help you," you start, while taking a cup tea close, "The night of the last hunt, I saw a side of you that legitimately scared me. And I think that you need to tell us what happened that night after school in order for us to-"

There's a slight shake in Carol's normally perfect stance, and you see a bit of tea spill from her own cup as you mention this. Looking at Carol, you spot a glance of pure fear for a moment, but it is gone as she regains part of her composure.

"Carol, we're your friends here, we care about you," Paula says, while picking up her own tea cup, "and we don't want to see you like this. It's not something pleasant for us, and probably much worse for you..."

"It...wasn't...I didn't...", Carol starts, still shaking a little bit from her previous bout, she's struggling to get the words out, "I didn't know them, but I knew who they were, those Bloods. I was coming home f-from school on foot, since David still had his car in the shop. I knew it was dangerous, but it was better than taking the bus with...everyone else."

There's a twinge of anger in her voice as she says that. You see her expression drop slightly, and she continues after taking a sip of her tea.

"It only took about an hour to get back home, but it was faster if I took the SE route," she continues, looking at her teacup, "They usually hung out there, but I knew how to get around them in the alleys. There was a crash or something though, police tape blocking the way there, so...I took my chance down South East. And...t-they...ambushed me..."

"T-they s-shouted...told me give them all I had...a-and...", she continues still, yet her voice is breaking up as she does so, "T-they...started taking my c-clothes off...even after I gave them what I had...I resisted, I kicked one of them hard, and...the other shot me..."

Carol's almost shaking fit doesn't stop after she's finished with her story. There's a look of pure sorrow on her sobbing face. Paula is almost on top of her, attempting to console her. Carol almost screams, pushing her away the show of kindness and comfort she showed for her.

"Paula, please let her go," you say, and Paula relents away from Carol, with similar sorrow in her eyes for only making it worse, "I know you mean well, but I don't think this is the moment for this."

Carol's body is still shaking a little bit from the small tug of war that almost ensued on her living room. Her eyes are watering and downcast, so similarly to that night when you both found her. The night when she almost died, saw those two others die, and when Chris almost...

"I'm so sorry Carol...", Paula says, looking down and sobbing a little herself, "You have every right to be angry with them. We can't imagine the amount of pain you're in right no-"

"STOP SAYING THAT!" she shouts, almost spilling her tea on the floor, you hear barking coming from the back of the house as this happens, "OF COURSE YOU WOULDN'T KNOW! You didn't go through it you stupid cop bitch!"

"Carol, please, you have to calm down," you say, locking your own calm eyes with her own sheer expression of rage and sadness, "We're here to help you, not fight with you. We both don't want to see you like this, like that night before."

"Please Carol, I know I said some things that night that you didn't like," Paula starts, though you figure Carol's too concerned with you really care if she talks again, "And given what you've told us, I would have reacted much differently to your decision before. I don't want to be at odds with you, you're a good person stuck in a really horrible place; we just want to help you out."

Carol's expression is still very much anxious at both of your words. She looks over to Paula, and lowers her brow to a slightly lower form.

"You want to help out? You want to fucking help out?", she says, very much annoyed, "Where were you two weeks ago when my classmates locked me in the gym restroom for a night? Where were you a month ago when I was beat up by the boyfriend of a girl in my class for looking prettier than her?! Where were you when I was almost raped in a FUCKING ALLEY AND SHOT TO DEATH?! "I couldn't have known!," Paula says sternly, trying to defend herself from Carol's vitriol, "But if I did, I would have stopped it Carol! Don't place that blame on me because of-"

"Because of them?!," Carol interjects, finishing Paula's sentence, "They're the reason I died, but you know what, it's not just them! I can't trust people like you Paula, people that pretend to care about you yet do shit that says the whole opposite!"

"Carol, I was trying to help you out then!", Paula says, trying to shift her stance to a more comforting pose, "I didn't want to see you kill someone because of that, and I still can't abide by it. We can't deal with these things from the past, we just have to learn to move on from them."

"It doesn't fucking matter now to you, does it!", Carol states, finally getting up and putting her tea down on the table with force, "Right?! It's in the past, RIGHT?! We can forget about all of this, because tomorrow we'll wake up and it'll be the same SHIT AGAIN?! Nothing is going to change tomorrow, and you KNOW IT!"

Carol's body is propelled forward with a serious amount of force towards Paula as she finishes her tirade. Paula drops her comforting pose and a readies herself for Carol's onslaught, but it doesn't come. Instead, Carol's fist and forearm are intercepted by your own hand.

"She was dead to you know, saving me," You say with a cold, serious voice as you firmly grip Carol's wrist, "But you don't care about that, about any facts or reality, you just want to vent your anger at the next thing that pisses you off. Well, I'm not gonna let you."

"LET GO OF ME ERICK!," Carol is struggling to get out, but you quickly catch her other arm and hold them away from her body, "YOU WOULD HAVE KILLED HIM TOO IF YOU HAD KNOWN! NEITHER OF YOU HELPED ME IN THE ALLEY AND YOU DIDN'T HELP ME AT ROOM!"

"We were both dead as well Carol, just like you!," You grip a little, tighter and she stops struggling as much, "I crawled on one leg to help Paula, because she lost her legs saving me. We were at the gas main explosion, remember that?"

"I know how it feels like to be helpless, and so does he," Paula states, looking at you and then back to Carol's slowly deflating body, "We may have failed you back then, but that doesn't mean we aren't gonna help you now. Please, just stop this Carol, we don't want to hurt you and you certainly don't want to hurt us..."

Carol's struggling has ceized. She lays motionless in your arms, save for the slight sob and hiccup in her voice. The only portion of her moving is her chest as she takes in shallow breaths. Paula looks at her almost pitiful state and nudges you to let her go.

+2 Trust (Carol Adams)

Carol's body is limp, and almost frail when you go to move her closer. Her arms don't wrap around you, so much as just hang on the side. Your bodies are pressed close now, and you feel a slight shiver running through her chest. She's shaking slightly, in spite of being completely motionless.

"Carol...I'm sorry we couldn't be there for you," you say, even though you don't see a response, "But we're for you now and we'll be there for you in the future, alright? We're your friends after all, and we care about you."

For a good few moments, the words linger in the air for a good minute. No one, not even Carol's dog makes a sound through that clear silence. Then, you feel a small tug on your forearm and a pair of weary, tear-soaked eyes stare right back at you.

"Do...D-do you...mean that...?", Carol struggles to say, while Paula moves to your side, "A-are you two...really...my friends...?"

"Paula and I care about you," you quickly reply, as Paula joins in the embrace, "We're all in the same situation, and even if we weren't we'd still call you a friend. We just have to work together in order to survive, we have to support each other."

Carol's breath becomes a little faster, and you see a similar sheen in her eyes. This time however, no tears come and you instead see a very familiar resolve in her eyes.

"Thank you...", Carol says, looking straight at you and then to Paula, "and...I'm sorry about what I said..."

"It's alright Carol, " Paula says, as she joins hands with Carol ,"I know makes people say many things. I'm just glad that you're much better now."

Paula's own embrace pushes past you, and you let go to let them have their peace of mind. You turn around to see the three teacups still on the table, half full and empty. You decide to put them away on Carol's kitchen, as the two continue to embrace. For the next five minutes, the entirety of the Adams' home is pleasantly calm.

<April 16th, Monday 6:30 PM>

After your consolation, Carol saw the two of you off. She let you know that she would be available for training more often now, since her brother would be picking her up from school all of the time. You both acknowledged it and bid her goodbye for now. There was a much clearer look in her eyes as she waved the two of you off. Paula noted that her smile was more genuine now. You noticed that as well as you started up your car.

"I've met girls like Carol," Paula says, looking out to the street, "grown up poor, looked out for herself, and been dealt a bad hand like that. They're the people I sought out to protect when I became an officer, the ones living in areas like this."

"She'll live, we'll make sure of that," you reply, and she looks at you intently, "not just the game but, everything else. There's something new there, something better than what she used to have."

'You're not alone here Carol, we'll make sure of that.'

<April 16th, Monday 6:40 PM>

"30th St, outside of the main metropolitan area," Paula says, as she recites the directions towards Dante's home, "Though, I have to ask, is this to just to deal with the FBI issue? I am not sure how much pull that senator dad of his is going to have."

"It's not just that," you state, making your way from the crowded downtown traffic, "I just think that we owe Dante, after all he's pulled for us with the hunts so far. If we can get that senator of his on our side, then all the better."

"You're acting like a real leader, you know that Erick," Paula states, making you almost flinch, "Sticking your neck out for a lot of strangers. You sure you didn't want to be a police officer growing up as well?"

"I don't know about being a leader," you reply, regaining your composure, "but I know we'll survive if we're all squared away well. Though, I don't think you'll like what I have in mind for helping Dante."

<April 16th, Monday 7:30 PM>

You had called Dante on the way to his house, making sure to mention that Paula was coming with you as well as if his stepfather was with him. Dante briefly wondered why you'd asked, but you told him about the issue with Chris and how Paula be able to help. There was a bit of a pause in his voice as he mentioned his step father however. It faded, and he told you he'd be in the foyer with him, and to press the big buzzer on the gate door to be let in.

As you and Paula made your way through the ritzy neighborhood of the 30th, you were drawn to the opulence of Dante's, or rather senator Arnold Bowery's, home. It easily dwarfed the other homes on the street, and shone with its almost stark white bricks. The lighting around the main entrance only seemed to make it all the more imposing. As your car reached the gate buzzer, it suddenly dawned on you how strangely out of place you were.

"Yes?," the raspy, old voice on the buzzer said, "Who is this?"

"Deputy Officer Paula," Paula replies back to the speaker, and you lean back a little give her room "and Erick Vanders, we're friends of Dante Bowery, as he asked us for help in finding Christopher Bowery. We're expected tonight."

The voice doesn't reply, instead what follows is a high tone from the buzzer and the rattling of metal as the front gate opens up. You drive the car across the cobbled driveway and to the side of the hedged bushes. After parking it on the side, you and Paula make for the mansion's large glass doors and the long wooden slate where the doorbell is.

After two seconds, you hear the sound of running from inside, and then Dante opens one of the door for the two of you. Before heading inside however, he steps out to the porch along side you both.

"Alright, first off, not the best time for a house call," he says, looking somewhat annoyed, "Second, you're doing me a big favor here guys, so THANK YOU. The old man's been getting testy ever since the week passed."

"We got your back Dante," you state, and Dante smiles back, "We just have to bluff and hope that it works out well enough. What did he say to you anyways?"

"He's been guilt tripping me since we got back from the first hunt," Dante sighs, and then looking back at the doors, "I promised him I'd find Chris, yet he didn't seem to really take me seriously on it. He even called the police about opening a case for him, but he started getting testy when the week rolled around and didn't find anything."

"Well, we're here to fix that," Paula says, giving him a pat on his shoulder, "I got my own story for this anyways, you just focus on getting those last 19 points."

<April 16th, Monday 7:35 PM>

Dante leads you all inside the mansion's interior, and it is just as elegant and ritzy as you imaged. Marble columns and precious works of art line the foyer as well as parts of the winding staircase to the second floor. You don't take too long to admire as Dante leads you to his stepfather's study.

Amidst several walls of books and a small fire-place near the back, there sits an overweight, graying man you only image as Dante's stepfather looking through his phone. As you three step through the doors, the man looks up.

"Dante tells me you're trying to find my son," he says in that raspy tone you noted from the speaker, "Please, take a seat and we'll be sure to introduce ourselves after business has concluded. If you have information about my son, then I am sure that Dante's already keyed you in regarding his appearance and...demeanor."

You each take a seat on one of the many plush, comfortable seats overlooking the fireplace and begin your explanation/story to Chris's whereabouts.

Basicaly say that Erick saw Chris buying stuff at the Walmart and that Paula followed his trail toward blood territory until it got cold. Because a officer going to the blood territory is asking to be shot. So they are trying to work with a local to see if they can get anymore ibfo on were Chris is.

Two big holes in your story there friend.

Chris was gone during the first hunt, the Bloods robbed the Wal Mart during the second.

The other point is that if they did kidnap Chris, wouldn't the Bloods ask for a ransom or something to the Senator?
>>
>>2366726
That's why i changed to this bit:>>2366722

Chris wanted to get away from Dante and was partying hard. So much he went to the Walmart were Erick saw him. Then Paula followed his trail into blood territory were she couldn't go without being shot. But fortunantly there is a person that Dante is working in there (Carol) to gather info and were abouts of Chris.
>>

Also, pretty sure Dante was with him on the night he 'disappeared'. He's going to start asking a lot of questions if we don't give him something concise.

Then work on it? I mean i don't need to do all the work here.

Chris likes to be in charge and wasn't strange to shoot dante to get rid of him. I bet Chris could have slipped something on his drink and gave Dante the slip by running away or abandoning Dante to go have fun elsewhere.
>>
>>2366745
I'm with you with him leaving Dante, but everything else just gets more complicated.

Why don't we just say that we were at the party they were both supposingly at, and spotted him on the way out. The police got called to the party and we later reported to where we last saw Chris heading when Dante began his own investigation.

"We didn't personally know him, only from the descriptions that Dante told us," you say, looking at the almost too calm eyes of the senator, "Dante's a friend of mine, but I've never actually met Chris. I'm just a prime witness to when it happened."

"If I may Senator Bowery," Paula states, looking intently at him, "I am currently off duty, but I can assure you we are moving closer to your son's trail. From the information our witness here has given us, it shouldn't be much longer."

The senator looks at you both intently, and readjusts himself on his chair. Paula looks at you, and you return a quick glance of determination back to her.

"Please then, recall the events of the evening for me," he states, looking at Dante, "I'm sure if it has taken you a week to compile the events, you should have come up with a good profile on the case itself."

You had told Paula of a slight story for Chris's departure and had recited it between yourselves in order to better memorize it. As it stood, now was the time to see whether or not the senator would buy it.

"At approximately 10:45 PM, EST," Paula starts, "We recieved a report of a violent disturbance in the Heist Nightclub in Downtown DC. I, along with Sergeant Isander and Deputy Reynolds, arrived at 11:00 PM to find your step-son, Dante, down on the ground, along with the witness, Erick, helping him up."

"Dante reported to having been knocked out by your son, Chris, and the witness spotted him leaving the club. He did not pursue in order to help up Dante, but claims to have seen him leave in a Ford Mustang in the direction of the Potomac River crossing, towards Arlington."

"And no one else spotted where he was headed?" the senator interjects, raising an eyebrow, "I don't much care where my son and my step-son spend their weekends, but I find it hard to believe that no one else reported on where he was going."

You give a nod to Dante while the senator's attention is placed on Paula. As soon as he finishes his statement, Dante holds up his hand and speaks forward.

"You really think a bunch of idiots in a night club are gonna care where someone went off to?", Dante interjects, looking straight at the senator, "I told you before as well, I called the cops because Chris was saying some really dumb things, things that could get us hurt that night in a bad crowd. I just didn't think he'd be the one to hit me first."

"Your brother is a fool, that much I'll give you," the senator says, glaring slightly at Dante, "but not even security camera footage or anything of the sort to spot the car he took? I'm a little surprised your friends haven't completed their profile to me yet."

"Are you going to let her finish the statement or not, dad?", Dante says, a little louder than intentional, "that's what they're here for, right? To tell you what they found?"

"Yes actually, I would love to hear this," the senator says, looking over you both again, "What exactly have you found, if anything. Though, if I am being quite honest, I have yet to completely believe your profile, officer."

You glance a little intensely at Paula, and see that she's maintaining her cool in spite of the senator's prying questions.

"Following our current investigation," Paula reports, taking from your previous story in the car, "According to our current eyewitness and subsequent reports that have come over the course of last few days, we have triangulated his location to be within the Alexandria metropolitan area. It will, however, take us some time to investigate on where in Alexandria he might be as a result of the large area."

"I thought you said the Mustang was headed towards Arlington," he notes, looking at you both intensely, "Are you telling me he decided to just head towards Alexandria on a whim or was there some other sort of reason for this?"

"Many of the roads that head towards Alexandria go through Arlington," you interject, and earn a slight glare from the senator, "I just saw it cross over the main Potomac highway, so it could have been going to Alexandria for all I knew."

"Rightly so, as we also received reports of that same Mustang near Crystal City's route 1 highway," Paula continues off of you, "a highway that leads towards Alexandria and the main metropolitan area. We just need time to see where in Alexandria he may be, sir."

Arnold Bowery takes a good, hard look at you both as if to assess your faces. Both of you remain in a stoic calmness as he scans you over, and oversees your intent with analytical duress. Then, he rises from the chair and starts looking through one of the bookshelves without turning his head to you or Paula.

"Say I do believe your story," he states, while rummaging the shelf, "In what span of time could I reliably expect news on Chris? I trust that your department head will be well informed to this matter?"

"My chief states that any reports are to be handled through the acting officers," Paula states, trying to see what he's getting, "We don't have major case reviews unless it involves several police districts. But, I can assure you that we can report back with a conclusive breakthrough within two weeks at the latest."

He doesn't respond to Paula immediately, at least not before pulling out a pristine wooden box. He opens it up as he sits down to reveal several vintage cigars with ingrained labels attached. He takes a metal lighter from his pocket, and goes to light one.

"That's good news, though I expect you to be happier than me honestly," he says while sticking the cigar in his mouth, and taking a puff, "That child is a nuisance, but he's the only blood seed that I have in this world and thus the only inheritor to my fortune, besides Dante of course. With his mother gone, it's been nothing but trouble raising him to be a 'responsible adult', even if he is only 16."

"If you can find him in that span of time, then you'll find yourself in my debt. Though, I would advice that you be...reasonable with your demands should the time ever come for that."

You almost want to jump for joy given the trouble this man almost put you through, yet Paula's still stoic gaze keeps you on the seat.

"Thank you sir, I will inform you if anything else in the case turns up," Paula says, getting up from her seat and heading to shake the senator's hand. He quickly gets up as well, and returns the handshake. He however, doesn't go to shake your hand motions Dante for you both to leave.

"I can't believe you bought us another two weeks," Dante says, as he meets you both out on the porch, "You guys had me going there for a bit honestly. No offense, but I was getting scared he wouldn't believe you there for a moment."

"Hey man, when you work at retail for almost two years," you state, looking somewhat proud of yourself, "You learn to bullshit your way through a lot of situations. Now, it's just a question of getting the remaining few points."

"I think you both should start thinking about how we're going to handle the next hunt," Paula interjects your joyous dialogue with Dante, "We got two people right now that are a little on the soft end in a fight, and another that's probably going try to kill us the moment we head in the room. You're not gonna get those points if you're dead Dante."

Dante quickly retraces his face back to a neutral expression, and sighs.

"Yeah, you're right," he says, looking at Paula with a more serious expression, "Alright, your call on when and where it'll be this time. You're better at organizing them than I am anyways."

"I can teach her a little on the side," Paula says, looking back at you, "It won't be much, but whenever I get a chance to watch over her, I can try to get some practice in with her. Though, Sunday are currently my only off days now."

"Well, maybe we can work together on that more often after I switch jobs," you say, looking back at Paula who gives you a look, "Been thinking about it, and Wal-Mart's dumbass schedule gets in the way of a lot of things. Plus, for $13 an hour, it's not exactly the most prestigious gig right now."

"Well, I can't help you much with a resume, so I guess good luck on the job-hunt after the day's over," Dante says, and then you hear the senator's voice call him inside, "Shit, guess we'll talk more later about this. Get some sleep guys, we're gonna need it for training tomorrow."

You all nod in unison, and Dante heads inside. You and Paula head towards the car, and start making your way out of the mansion.

<April 16th, Monday 9:00 PM>

"I've got an early morning shift tomorrow," you say to Paula, as you arrive to her house, "Though, after I give them my week notice, I don't think I'll have to say that much longer."

"You've thought of what you want to do afterwards?", Paula asks, unhooking her seat-belt, "I can't really be too much of a reference, unless you're applying for a job on the force. Though, if you need help in looking for a job, I could always look around as well."

"Thanks Paula, " You say, and look at her with a grateful smile, "It really means a lot to me, really. But what do you have in mind?"

"You think you could really land me a job?" you state, somewhat surprised at your luck and the opportunity Paula's presenting, "Am I qualified for it? Like, no joke, I didn't finish college and-"

"Calm down Erick, hehe", Paula replies, chuckling at your flustered demeanor, "I'll give a shout out to a friend that runs filing down at the station, and see what I can do. Don't worry, so long as you finished high school and can organize yourself well enough, then you should be fine."

Her words give you a bit more relief in your chest, and you suddenly feel somewhat elated towards your immediate future. Paula gives you a peck on the cheek as she heads out of the car to her apartment complex. You see her wave goodbye as she leaves your sight, into the large condo where she sleeps.

You don't linger long, and head to your own apartment post haste, thinking on how you'll break the news at Wal-Mart tomorrow.

<April 16th, Monday 9:30 PM>

You arrive home, and slump down on your bed after taking your clothes off. It occurred to you that you actually skipped dinner today so your stomach is grumbling a little. For the time you have, you try to look in your fridge yet find the same dismal amount of nothing in there. Not even the takeout is left.

'Paula skipped breakfast today,' you chide yourself for thinking about your stomach, 'Can't really complain too much considering.'

Your phone rings with a message, and you go to your bed to look. It's from work, and says:

<Arrive early, 6:00 AM, management wants to have a word. ASAP.>

<April 17th, Tuesday 5:30 AM>

Your decision to sleep early nets you a half-hour to get to work. Though, judging by their decision to have the meeting take place so early, you probably won't have enough time to eat something on the way there. You don't dwell too much on this, as you make your way to your closet to get quickly changed.

As you head to the restroom to wash up, your phone rings next to sink. The message is from Yukino and it reads:

<Hey there, just making sure this thing worked. Dad says you guys will be coming Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Also, don't tell him I woke up early. I like to read with my phone light under the sheets.>

You smile at the strange innocence of that text, and head off to wash yourself. But not before texting, <No prob, it's our secret. :)>

<April 17th, Tuesday 6:00 AM>

You manage to arrive surprisingly fast to Wal-Mart, managing to beat out the beginning of rush-hour. It seems waking up early had its benefits, as it seems that you managed to even beat the greeters here. As you head towards the staff room to get your uniform on, you notice several police officers head out of the main office meeting room, muttering to themselves something you can't really make out.

After putting on your uniform, you head to the main meeting room to see two steps of the Wal-Mart hierarchy sitting right behind the glass. Ryan is standing behind the wooden pine desk that makes up the office of your store manager, Sam Wilson. You head inside, find a seat and ready yourself for what they have to say.

"For the last two months, it should be noted that you, Erick Vanders, have given our team a good amount of headway in sales and customer service," Sam states, looking over several sheets you guess are your sales reports, "You've taken several extra hours, and days ahead of others within the store, and even in days when we were understaffed you managed to perform excellently with your duties. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you were a man after Ryan's job, am I right, Ryan?"

Ryan only chuckles lightly at the joke at his expense, and goes back to looking at you with a slight scorn. Sam gets up from the desk, and goes over to the shelf to pull out a folder, and he gives it you.

"However, if this was just a performance review or promotional hearing, I'd have given you the job right here and now," Sam states, looking at the folder in your hands, "In that folder, there are the photos and a video USB, copies of course, that we gave to the police after the robbery last Sunday. Tell me Erick, if you were in my position, how would you react to hearing that you lost over $300,000, along with the image of your store?"

"Personally, I'd be outraged to hear that," you state, with Ryan looking back at you with somewhat surprised eyes, "$300,000 is no joke, and we can't make it back as well if we're seen as a dangerous store. I wouldn't lose control of course, but I would certainly not be happy while implementi-...wait. Are you accusing me of something?"

Ryan looks even more surprised that you said that last part, but Sam's expression of calm doesn't change one bit. He's eyeing you with judgement in every movement, yet you can't spot an emotional change in him. This changes as he gets up from his desk, and slams his hands on the wood.

"Erick, I'm appointing you as a temporary manager for the week," Sam exclaims, slightly surprising you for a bit, "Consider it a trial period for that initial offer I made you, though you still have to do your regular hours. In all honesty, I still think you're a little green for the position, but I can respect a man with honesty and drive, so keep it up this week and...we'll see what happens."

"T-thank you sir, I won't let you down!", you stammer slightly, looking back at Sam with a determined expression, "But...then, what about..."

"Oh don't worry about Ryan," Sam says, waving you off and pointing at the door, "Just go out there and get us more numbers. Also, your paycheck should have come in today, so check back as soon as you're able."

You nod back at him and head out of Sam's office, not even caring to listen to the starting tirade that Ryan would receive for the rest of the morning. As you head out to the main floor, you go towards your main department of in the electronics aisle and monitor the main cash register near the computers. Yet as you clear out the homewares aisles towards the main section, you hear a slight commotion on the top most shelves.

"Look out!", someone says above you, yet you only manage to look up in time to see a large box head down your way. You got to reach your hand to try to shield yourself. You feel a strange sensation in your head, like a dizzying cloud surging in your brain. You feel a warm fluid coming from your nose, blood more than likely. Yet what happened next was not a concussion nor an impact on your nose.

The impact never comes. You open your eyes to the sight of the box, standing 3 inches from your head. Your eyes dart around it to see if something or someone is suspending it, yet you see nothing. You look again, and notice that it is floating, all on its own. Your nosebleed gets a little bigger as you look further, until you hear another voice call out from the aisle, and the box finally hits your head.

Alright, second half of the slice of life begins this Friday and I feel terrible that I split the session into pieces like this.

The time set for when we come back is this Friday at 3:00 PM EST, this time for a full session and to ready us up for hunt number 3.

Let me know if you guys prefer me doing split up sessions like this, or if its too annoying we can switch back to full ones on the weekends.

Anyways, have a good evening /qst/.

Oh shit psychic powers bitch!
>>
>>2367562
Shit, I forgot psychics were a thing in Gantz.

...we're going to "Twice as bright, half as long" this, aren't we?
>>
>>2367594
I bet you anything this has something to do with our visit to that void place.
>>
>>2367634
Nah, human psychics exist normally. The powers just take a massive toll on the body.
>>
>>2367728
Yes, but the powers can be triggered by outside sources too. One of them was outright taught how to be a psychic, so I wouldn't put it past Erick's trigger being his extremely close brush with death.
>>
>Yet as you clear out the homewares aisles towards the main section, you hear a slight commotion on the top most shelves.

Is this...did Ryan just tried to kill us?
Also wow we managed to be a manager for a week...don't know how to feel about that.
>>
>>2368027
>Is this...did Ryan just tried to kill us?
He was still with Sam, about to get a lecturing he wouldn't soon forget. So I dunno who did this unless the box itself contains the thing?
>>
>>2368111
I think it may just be us protecting ourselves from it falling and the psychic shit activating on instinct.
>>
>>2368111
Oh it sounded to me that some time had passed after our talk in the office. Oh well thats what i get for reading stuff during the early morning.

So will we try to keep our job as manager or will we atill give our one week noticed after this? And unlike Ryan, Sam seems like a pretty descent boss.
>>
>>2368125
To be entirely honest, I really don't know. Hours is going to be the big deciding factor in all of this honestly, since money in this quest seems like a bit of a moot point. We'll have to ask if we can choose our own hours if we're a manager.

Also, not a big criticism towards the quest, but all of these different storylines kind of make me feel like the QM is stretching himself thin. We're not directionless, but a little confused on where our priorities lie since we don't a ton of bad shit to deal with unlike the characters in the manga.
>>
>where our priorities lie

For me it's
-Survive the game first
-Second make sure the Waifu (Paula) is safe
-Thirdly make sure everyone else can get out of the game
-And last get out of the game ourselfs

But i guess this will make us end up like Nishi from the original series. His entire group got out before him, but since he was the outcast from the school nobody was his friend vefore the game making him lose his group in the game and continued to be ignored in real life.

If you think. Gantz is the only reason why we have Paula and the reason why we have so many people thrusting us. I mean were else if not in Gantz would a Walmart employer get to know the son of a senator, a police officer and medical student?

I see two ends for Erick one that a anon pointed out at the start of the quest. Kurono's history was how gantz made him a better person.

To Erick i see it as his death pushed him out of safe net, making him be more then a Walmart employe and restoring the thrill he used to have when he was at college and party.

So either Erick finds Gantz to be the place he belongs like it was with Izumi Shion

Or he saves everyone and ends up alone like it happened with Nishi Joichiro.
>>
>we don't a ton of bad shit to deal with unlike the characters in the manga

i see this like a difference in culture and how our character is different from a bunch of teenagers. A lot of bad things can happen.

First don't forget the blood is alive and could easily go after Carol out of the game to get revenge. That's why during the week i would like to keep a eye on her or at least make people of the group watch for her.

Other thing is the senator psycho son will return soon and that shit head can cause a lot of headache once he comes back. After all if he dies Dante get screwed over and is forced to revive him (Chris). He could also use daddy's connections to try and fuck up with Carol's family or even with Tanjee who is just a student. Nit to mention that Dante might unwilling change side and back up his psycho brother.

That's not to mention what would happen to Ericks life (be it emotionaly or in any other form) if Paula dies in the game.
>>
>>2368189
I see Gantz giving Erick's life meaning. He was just drifting through beforehand but now he has a purpose.
>>
>>2368204
It did. But there is something else, Erick mentions how he changed how his views changed and how he was now working much more harder then before his death. If Erick has his memories deleated could he continue to keep his place at the new job or his new promotion? Or will him return to the apathy he had before?

But then we star entering the philosophical of what makes one human and what makes one want to move on. So let's just say he likes to hunt the aliens and focus on the nudes and violence.
>>
>>2368189
>Nishi Joichiro

Ok, I know I said some thing that were a little out of kilter but WOW do we have to prevent this from happening.

Granted, Nishi was kind of already a bit of a psycho before Gantz started but playing the hero could backfire super hard if this is indeed a possibility...

>>2368204
I get the feeling Paula is going to hate us when the decision finally comes around to leave. Also, does Gantz also erase all of the memories of the people that choose to leave?

Because if that's a thing, then it's gonna make the decision to leave even harder on Erick...
>>
>playing the hero could backfire super hard if this is indeed a possibility...

i think the only one that managed to play the hero was Masaru Kato and he died at least once.

>Also, does Gantz also erase all of the memories of the people that choose to leave?

You mean if the people that are still in the game will still remember the person after she leaves the game? If that's your question then no. People still in the game will remember the person that leaves it. But once they get the points to get out of it, their memories will be erased to.
>>
>>2368218
Kurono was the hero a bunch of times. More importantly, he was damn good at it. He got through the entire dinosaur mission without a suit.
>>
>>2368218
>>2368233
Appropriately enough, both of them died at least once in the series.

Also, if thread speculation is correct, we may be getting closer to that Gantz despair event horizon. We're gonna need all the training we can get this week...

<Session Start>

<April 17th, Tuesday 8:00 AM>

"I... waking up..." a disembodied voice echoes in your head, "Doesn't...injured, but...fine."

You struggle to make out the sounds all at once, yet the closest one seems to be addressing the others judging by the voice's direction. It is speaking in a hurried tone as your mind tries to make sense of your current conscious state. The surface below you feels soft, and the cool breeze above eases a bit of the ache you feel in your head.

You slowly open your eyes, and see several light covered shadows around you, each moving either closer or further away. Everything from the noise to the images feel slightly hazy, and there is some slowness in your head as you adjust yourself to the world around you. This only takes about a few seconds to adjust before one of the figures moves closer to you.

"Erick, you ok there?", Sam says, with an open first aid kit in hand, "You had us scared there for a moment, since they didn't report you waking up. We're in my office, but don't worry the paramedics should be here any moment now."

You try to reply to his comment, yet a dull, heavy pain on your head makes you flinch as your thought forms. Your sight comes back in full as you open your eyes from the pain, and see that several of your co-workers, including Ryan, are huddled around you. You spot the ceiling fan, and the long extendable futon you're laid out on as the pain begins to slowly fade.

"Hank found you near homewares sprawled out on the floor and with a bad nosebleed," Sam says, as he closes the first aid kit, "Said he was staking a box of waffle irons near one of the shelves when it tipped over for him. Bad luck in location it seems, but we're kind of just glad you're alright."

"Y-yeah..." you say, a bit of the pain beginning to sweep into you again, "Hit me something good, but I should still be f-fine to..."

You don't finish the sentence as another wave of pain invades your head. This time however, it's a dull, kneading pain on your left temple, but a sharp, stabbing pain in the front of your head.

'No...it's something else...something...inside.'

"Erick, listen, if you need to go home, I'll totally understand," Sam states, motioning to the others to leave, "but, just be sure to tell the paramedics this happened like 5 minutes ago. They'll have my head if I called like 10 minutes afterwards."

"Yeah, don't worry," you say, laying your head down a little bit, "I'll get myself home. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me."

You let out a small chuckle as you say that last bit, yet a sliver of pain from it makes you wince back a little. Whatever that was, it's certainly not gonna stop soon.

"Alright, got it," Sam says, at the room's door, "paramedics should be here in a second so they can take you home after they find out what's the bigger issue here."

"Kind of surprised that you were bleeding as much as you were by the way. Surprised us more when you didn't keep bleeding, so I guess your nose isn't broken."

You also notice that your sense of smell hasn't deteriorated from the ordeal itself, in fact it's just been your head that's hurt. But, then why did your nose start bleeding if the box hit you?

'It didn't hit me...it...floated...what the hell is going on...?'

<April 17th, Tuesday 11:00 AM>

The paramedics arrived not a few minutes after the others left Sam's office. They laid you out on a stretcher as Sam explained to them a summary of what had happened. It all seemed familiar to how you remembered it, except there was no mention of the floating box. For a moment you wonder if you had just imagined the event occurring, but you the remembered that whoever found you may have only seen the box itself hit you.

They eventually load you to the ambulance and head towards the hospital with due haste. While you had never ridden in an ambulance before, you wouldn't envy whoever had to drive it with this much speed in the congested streets of DC. After arriving to the hospital, they bring you a bright examination room where a doctor checks to see if there's a concussion. Throughout all of their tests and diagnoses, the pain in your head begins to lessen. After about another hour, they are astounded to find no adverse physical affects.

'But...the box hit me, right? There should be a bump or bruise or something, right?'

As estranged and amazed at your swift recovery, the hospital lets you out with a light painkiller prescription for the droning pain you reported in your head and a ride back to WalMart to pick up your car.

<April 17th, Tuesday 12:00 PM>

Upon arriving back to your apartment, it's become apparent that whatever pain you've felt since the incident has subsided. Yet, you feel uneasy regarding what you saw and what you felt. You reassess with your brain that you did see the box fall, then levitate, and then finally drop on top of you. You felt that initial pain of its weight, but before it you felt yourself almost floating with the box itself, a sensation of almost euphoria as you looked at it.

'Christ...I don't know what's happening anymore...'

Between the hours on end you've spent with nameless users online, and the subsequent days you've dedicated to random web-browsing to pass the time, you'd normally assume that the process of finding something online would be easy. Yet you know finding something this esoteric and, for a lack of a better word, fucking insane would take you some time. You take a quick swig of your water and a bite from your energy bar and start your search.

<April 17th, Tuesday 1:10 PM>

After looking through several message boards, forums, and web page articles, your mind as well as your fingers are starting to get tired. For all of the different searches involving 'floating phenomenons', and 'strange nosebleeds', there were next to no real relevant results. It was then, at the last ten minutes, that you found yourself on 4chan's /x/ board, looking at a strange general thread named, 'Awakenings'.

>Pic related

Throughout this thread, there were a few sparse posts relating to strange occurrences that anonymous individuals had during their current day. Reports in their posts ranged from sudden visualizations of far away events, to someone saying their cat's neck was snapped before their eyes. Some of the posts stated their experiences began after a traumatizing experience, while others stated had the occurrences happen since as early as elementary school. Yet, throughout all of them, you noticed that familiar red sign. A nosebleed, and a strange, heavy headache that soon followed afterwards.

You looked at the date chronicled for the thread, and found it to be about a week old. Whoever had submitted it, had only managed to keep the thread from being archived due to responses to some of the posts. It was difficult to guess if this was the same person replying to all of the posts, yet whoever it was seemed to be trying to calm them down and relate a bit of their own story to them.

'Maybe...it's time to get this sorted out.'

Of the time you've spent on 4chan, all 1 week of it, you've lurked enough to see how 'structured' their posting style is but never really had the gall to go through with a post. Or perhaps the shared, nihilistic interest since you never really found much of anything to talk about with the anons here. At least, not until now.

<Do you have a way for me to contact you outside of here? I need to talk urgently. I fucking wish I was LARPing this, but I'm not.>

You finish your post with the somewhat vague and hopeful idea that whoever is looking, may have a key interest in this. Though, it wouldn't surprise you to find out that half of what's posted on this thread was all just bullshit, in spite how on the nose it may be. You take a slight recline in your seat, and wait for the replies to come in. Yet, for the next 15 minutes, the computer and the board is silent regarding your post.

'Maybe it's one of those slow boards. This thread goes a week back, so maybe it'll just take a bit to get an answer...?'

You almost reel back at what you just thought, almost like you believed in what you said. For all of the bravado in you, there's still a lot of doubt in both yourself and other people. Regardless, you decide to give the thread some more time to reply with something. The meeting with the others doesn't start until 5, so perhaps it's time to...

<April 17th, Tuesday 1:25 PM>

"Hey Dante, you up for some lunch?", you say into your phone, while looking back at your laptop screen, "I've got some free time before training and was hoping you'd be up for something."

"Haha, lucky you I'm heading back from classes right now," Dante replies through your phone, "Alright, I'll join you, but I'll choose it this time. I'm thinking Chipotle, since it's been nothing but spaghetti over at my place."

You acknowledge his reply and he gives you the directions for the restaurant. You give yourself a small wash and head out, after giving the thread a final look over.

'I guess it's a slow board...'

<April 17th, Tuesday 2:00 PM>

You were a little astounded that Dante's choice of eatery was actually so close to your house. It only takes about 15 min to get to Chipotle, but soon find that the midday lunch rush has the line stretch outside of the doors. From the interior, you also see the majority of the tables are taken as well.

'Well...may as well wait if Dante's gonna take his time.'

After about 30 more minutes, and the line moving dangerously close to the front, Dante calls you. You let him know that you're in the front of the line, and he replies that he'll be there in a bit. After some shoving and a bit more waiting, Dante shows up with a friendly smile and a thank you for saving him a spot in the line. After ordering your food, Dante got one of the guacamole and beef bowls while you got one of the brown rice and chicken burritos with salsa, you head out of the Chipotle to find a place to eat your food.

"So, what are you thinking right now?" Dante asks, looking out for a bench or chair to sit down, "You've got a bit of concern on your face man. Anything happen?"

'He can't read me this well, right?'

"I think it'll be better if we sit down for it," you say, changing your tone to a bit more serious, "It's not something I am sure you'll agree with to be honest. But, it's important."

"Alright," Dante says, looking around for a place to sit down, "But there's a lack of benches around here..."

You both manage to find a place to sit down and eat your food nearby. The signs call it Gallery Place, and it looks like a small strip-mall turned alley. the alleyway you're sitting in is filled with food and retail stores on each side, yet your focus is solely on your food and your initial conversation.

"Paula and myself were talking Kurtis the other day," you start, as you both unwrap your food items, "We were originally heading out to one of the military compounds to give his dogtags to his commanding officer. Yet, we couldn't do it."

"Why not?", Dante says, scooping up a bit of rice with a fork, "Granted I haven't contact his family either, but that's on account of the shit fit my stepdad threw yesterday. Did something happen?"

"Yeah, I changed my mind Dante," you state, swallowing the piece of burrito in your mouth, "I want to bring him back. I feel he deserves that much, after what happened?"

You hear Dante sigh, and then look down at the floor as you say this. As he lifts his face to look back at you, a very serious look is drawn on his face.

"Is that the entire reason as to why you're reviving him?", Dante says, his stare boring holes into your head, "Do you feel guilty over what happened and are trying to make up for it Erick? Because, if so, that's a really selfish reason for going through with it man..."

'No...wait, there's more than that.'

"You know what, yeah maybe it is guilt," you start, looking away for a bit out of shame knowing he's right, "But maybe I also think he deserves better than what he got. At the end of the day, is it no more different than your own reason for wanting to revive Chris."

"I sure don't think it's the same," Dante says, looking back at you somewhat annoyed, "You're reviving him because of your own guilt man. I'm doing it to survive, even if I don't want to do it."

"But in the end you're going through with it," you state, somewhat unshaken by his look, "You really think we're not similar in that way Dante, or at least part of our end goal. We're just using those people at the end of the day. It doesn't matter whether or not we like them or not."

"B-But...", Dante almost says, but starts looking down in a pensive look, "I need to do this Erick. I can't live without him over at his father's place, at least not without stress."

"It's alright Dante," you say, looking back at him with a smile, "I can't live with myself knowing that Kurtis died because of one my own decisions. I just figured it's better to get him back through a decision of my own as well."

"Besides," you continue, taking another bite from your burrito, "the man is a great shot and an excellent tracker. We can use someone that good with a gun."

"You know Erick," Dante says, looking forward with a strangely scared face, "I thought I had you figured out, but you're someone dangerously honest about what you want. It's scary though, because it makes you sound a lot like Gantz."

1/2 Trust (Dante Bowery)

"Sound like Gantz?", you reply, somewhat taken aback by comparison but then chuckle a little at his choice of words, "Come on man, I think I have more self-control than some machine that uses l33t speak and is obnoxiously offensive. Do you see me giving everyone stupid nicknames?"

"I'm serious Erick," Dante says, not smiling one bit at your response, "because I see that in me too. Using people to our own ends, surviving at any cost even if we have to sacrifice others, and losing a bit of ourselves on the way. The only real difference I see is all that metal."

"Hey man, we aren't like Gantz," you say, standing up to look at him, "We care about those that head into the hunts, because we all want to live through them. We're not cold machines like Gantz, we make those decisions because have to make them."

Dante sighs again, yet doesn't say anything. He's still averting his gaze, but you can tell by the sullen expression on his face that he's at least listening to you.

"We may be doing it for our own reasons Dante," you say, moving in front of him to have him face you, "But I genuinely care about Kurtis, and I think there's a part of you that did care for Chris as well, even if he...kind of was an asshole. Besides, do we look like small children hooked up to black balls?"

The last part of your comment actually makes him snicker a little. You smile to face him and he does the same. He stands up and looks at you with raised eyebrows, and an odd smile.

"You're a real difficult person to figure out Erick," Dante says as your eyes meet, "But, I guess you're right in that regard, painfully honest as well. Heheh, anyways, let's finish our lunch, I got class in 30 min."

You nod your head and return to finishing your burrito with Dante. In spite of the differing mindset, you two seem to have come to a middle ground on where you stand with Gantz and your own decisions.

<April 17th, Tuesday 3:30 PM>

After finishing up with lunch, Dante and yourself head separate ways. Dante notifies you that he called everyone before you leave, and all of the group, with the exception of Yukino, will show up at the Junkyard at 5 PM. You acknowledge his action, and head back home.

After returning back to your apartment, you immediately take a look at your laptop and the thread you left behind. There is one reply set to it, and it goes back 15 minutes ago.

<Come to the Lincoln Memorial at 10 PM tonight. I will wait at the bottom steps, near the forward climb. I won't wait more than 5 minutes if you're late. If you don't show up, I will never reply to your IP again and I will ban you from the board. If I feel like you're bullshitting or bringing other people, I won't hesitate to kill you. You read the reply with a surprised and somewhat scared look on your face. Then you re-read it again to make sure it's actually there. In spite of you doing this three times, you're still surprised someone didn't just reply, but is also taking your statement very seriously.

Maybe, too seriously? Your mind briefly wanders to the FBI, yet the fear is dissuaded by how the message itself seems to be displayed. You figure that if the FBI were trying to goad you out, they would have attempted to blend in with the board yet the post itself is very well crafted and in a standardized format. Its intent, for as strange as it sounds, looks very genuine in how it presents itself.

Whoever this person is, he or she may be just crazy enough to be truthful on the internet.

<I'll be there, thanks.>

Your crafted reply seems almost too short for the amount of effort the other person probably put into their post, but it's the only thing that comes to your mind. While the post itself is right there in front of you still, there's an air of surreality to your claims being taken so seriously by someone online. For better or for worse, you've set yourself up for a date at 10.

There's a time to be a creeper online, and a time to get out and start making gains. You choose the latter, as you put on your suit, your hoodie, jeans, and head out with the rest of your equipment. While Stheno's message is still in your mind, you figure it's better to get an early start there than waste your time trying find out more online.

<April 17th, Tuesday 4:00 PM>

You find that the Diamond Auto-Parts is still very much closed as you pull up closer to its main building. Carol mentioned it was like this, as they need an extra permit or whatever to operate their heavier machinery at night. Whatever the case might be, it is something your team was going to defintely enjoy tonight.

You rounded about the fence and headed towards the breach near the east end of the junk yard. You could easily hop over, but you figured it would be a bit more subtle to go the civilian route than jump a 20 foot fence. Around that side of the junkyard, you actually saw clearing near a wrecked bus that was parked on several rows of wheels. You guessed figured that this could make for a good place to meet up with the others.

'Now though, I think we should get a little ahead of them.'

You pick out some of the more rusted parts in the junkyard, and start getting your targets aligned. The question remains however, on whether or not the gun will send them away outside of the game itself. You figured shooting them won't be a problem, since the pistols and the rifle seem to handle just fine out of the hunts. But...that laser is a whole other story.

'Whatever, it's not like I'm shooting people or anything.'

Y-Gun Mastery: Intermediate (LOCKED) +1 to all actions with Y-Gun

<April 17th, Tuesday 5:00 PM>

It's been about two missions since you started using this little unassuming gun, yet the result of your practice and experience with it have yielded great results. Even though the laser doesn't seem to work, every single shot, even to those just out of range, hit their mark dead center. You estimate that over twelve or so pieces of car trash are wrapped up with the nets and the anchors are digging into either the metal or ground itself.

The practice itself is intensive, and you manage to actually work up a sweat stacking and re stacking the pieces of junk to suit your shooting needs. Before long though, you almost imagine that the little gun will run out of netting, yet its recharge just seems get its stock of ammunition right back. You figure it's whatever advanced technology Gantz runs on, but it's almost like magic how it manages to not run out.

Before long however, you recieve a call from the others, asking where you are and that they'll be arriving soon to the junkyard. Carol is riding with Dante again, and Paula picked up Tanjeet on her way back from her final round, much to his surprise. You let them know of what you've been doing, to various mentions of 'Wow, nice dude, get swole', to 'Don't blow up too much junk before we get there.'

Before long though, they arrive to the small clearing with the bus. Everyone looks a little surprised at your display of netted up junk around the area, and Dante even commends your growing skill. The admiration doesn't last long however, as Dante introduces Tanjeet to the basics of the sessions.

"Alright man, it's like this," Dante explains, pointing to the junk around himself, "just give it all you got. We're here to get stronger to survive, not to show off."

Tanjeet nods his head, and Dante looks at you.

"Alright man," he starts, and then looking back at everyone, "So, what'll be it be this time guys?"

<April 17th, Tuesday 6:30 PM>

While you're somewhat familiar with the equipment itself, there's still a lot you're unfamiliar with regarding the capabilities of the weapons themselves. Dante calls Paula over to his side to explain some of the finer points of the arsenal.

"You all probably know how this gun operates," Paula says, while holding up her X-Gun, "but there's a small feature I found out about it. If you press the top trigger, the little display on it will show an x-ray of whatever you're looking at."

"This works for the rifle as well," Dante states, looking through the scope of his own rifle, "there's also a zoom in function which you can adjust on the rifle's screen. This thing has massive range, so make the best of it."

Tanjeet seems to be trying to absorb all the information, yet you can see even his analytical mind is have some trouble keeping up with the strange lecture. This changes however, as Paula and Dante call everyone forward to try out the features.

You take the X-Rifle, since you're a little more familiar with it, and see that it does indeed have an x-ray feature on it. Or rather a strange variant of an x-ray as you're not just able to see through skin into bone, but also through metal and even parts of the ground itself.

The rest of the exercise is to get Tanjeet acclimated with shooting more than anything. It seems he favors the x-gun as its used quite well by him to nail a couple of spokes out of the top of a junk pile. Everyone gets in some practice as well, with Carol surprising Dante and scoring a solid hit on a windshield wiper with an X-Gun.

After the practice, you all clear out of the junkyard but not before Dante makes an announcement outside of the fence.

"You all did good out there, so," he says, looking towards his car, "Who's up for dinner? I know its a faux-pas to eat after a workout, but Subway's looking really tasty right about now."

"Eh, why not," Carol says, looking at him, "ain't got anything to do in the afternoon anyways."

"I'll have to pass," Paula states, looking back at her car, "I ate on the way here, and I got a shift early tomorrow as well. Erick, remember we're taking care of Yukino tomorrow as well."

"Yeah, I'll have to pass too," Tanjeet says, looking a little glum, "This was great and I am thankful for all the info you guys gave me, but I have classes early tomorrow and I got homework to finish up."

"Aww...' Carol sighs, but then perks up to look at Dante, "Well, I guess it's just you and me for tonight. I'll meet you back at the car, and get that playlist you want ready."

"Yeah, thank you," Dante says, looking at Carol as she heads back to the car, "well, I guess we'll see each other later. Be sure to contact us if you want to get another time set up alright, just be sure to check the place before hand and everyone's schedule is in agreement."

"Don't worry about it man," you say, waving Dante off as he heads to his car and then to Paula and Tanjeet as they head to Paula's cruiser. As you stand there, looking at them go, you wonder on how all of the training is going to amount when the mission rolls around.

'Junk doesn't move or try to shoot back. But, we'll get there soon enough,'

That's all you manage to think of before you head back to your car.

You make a mental note of getting some Arizona Ice Tea for yourself and Stheno when you eventually head out.

'Guess it's late-night omelettes, but at least I got fresher stuff now.'

You get started on cooking your omelettes, adding some mushrooms you got from Food Lion in there for a bit more flavor. While this happens, you've got a game updating on your steam page, though looking through it, the updates shouldn't take too long.

You get the omelette set up on a plate, snatch a diet coke and make room on your desk for your current set up. Judging by the number of updates finishing on the other games, DOTA 2 seems like the most readily available one right now. You have a massive steam library from your high school and college days, but rarely access much of it, or even have some of the games installed for that matter.

Either way, time to see where the ancients take you this time. Hopefully with competent teammates.

Amidst the vitriol and strained hatred that your team initially throws your way, you manage to hold your own with your meme as shit Shadow Fiend build. You can't really call it a build, in spite of how deranged it really is though. Regardless of the circumstance, you absolutely trounce the opposite team's Invoker on sheer power and last hit denial alone.

In spite of this, by midgame your team starts to struggle against their late game carries. Even your patented Aghs into Refresher for double Requiem build isn't doing as much as it could with the amount of magic immunity the opposite team seems to have built up. It is at this time you decide to switch to a sneakier build, and decide to back door their team while they start to make their way to your base.

The strategy works, and their team heads deeper and you manage to take their remaining barracks before their team can teleport back. Facing an oncoming wave of megacreeps, the opposite team cannot hold out very long and soon succumbs to your degenerate stratagem. The call of <EZ> is repeated in all chat by the time the game ends, and you find that some two hours have passed since you started.

You quickly head to your car and to the nearest convenience store for that ice tea.

<April 17th, Tuesday 9:55 PM>

You check up on your clock as you round about the Lincoln Memorial steps. Indeed, you arrived five minutes early, yet you almost imagined Stheno to be here already given the tone her or she took online. Without much to do, your gaze wanders to the top of the memorial, and the architecture laid within. You'd never really felt all that amazed or proud of DC, yet you'd always had a soft spot for this place as it was the first place you visited with your parents here all those years back.

<You there, can you hear me?>

Your thoughts are interrupted by a sudden noise behind you. Or rather...around you?

'This is just like...'

Your head starts to hurt a little as your mind remembers images of a cold, fathomless void. How your mind and your voice managed to travel there. And how something from beyond managed to speak to you. Is this...like that previous time?

It was all about getting your thoughts together when you arrived in that strange void. That place where everything and nothing correlated with your thoughts and perceptions. To your untrained mind, it should potentially be the same principle though, right?

You round out the words into your thoughts, and try to process them in your mind. This takes you a second but you manage to feel that strange sensation in your head again. A euphoric wave moves from you as the thoughts leave your head, towards wherever the previous thought came from.

<Are you Stheno? H->

Your mind doesn't continue the remaining thought however, as a horrific influx of pain reaches the top of your head. You suddenly feel a fast trickle of blood flow from your nose and onto your jacket. It's almost too much for you, and you almost collapse from the pain itself. This is met by a new pain, as more thoughts enter your head.

<It hurts you that much to talk? Jesus christ, we've got a long way ahead of us kid.>

The thoughts reverberate inside your skull, like a beating drum on an amplifier. Then, the pain stops, almost like someone turning off the alarm in a car. The amount of feeling in your head manages to short itself out, but you no longer feel that horrible pain. You get up from your kneeling position, and catch a glimpse of a hooded figure approaching from the side of the memorial's steps.

In spite of the low visibility, you see the shape is quite feminine, and about your height as it approaches you. The hoodie carries several strange markings on it, and a weird insignia of ankh on the back. You don't get a good luck under it though, before the figure speaks.

"I'm Stheno, and consider that your favor for the evening," she says, lifting one hand and pulling the Arizona Ice Tea to herself without even touching it, "This is nothing but party tricks to me, but to you it's gonna be the worst evening of your life. Now, tell me your name, your real name."

"It's Erick, Erick Vanders," you truthfully reply, with her cocking her hood slightly, "I've had worse evenings than this, trust me. But first...I want answers, or an explanation to what's been going on."

Her head cocks back to a normal position and you feel a slight unease, like a cold chill, move out of your head.The feeling is gone as soon as it begins however, and Stheno opens up the tea bottle to take a swig. You notice as she does so, that her hand reaches under her hoodie pull on something as the bottle reaches her mouth.

"Good, you can follow instructions," she says with a very unimpressed tone in her voice and beginning to pace around you, "Erick Vanders, age 22, who lives in 401 Massachusetts Ave NW and has a natural adherence to Chinese takeout given his home's adherence to Chinatown. The evening hasn't begun yet, that was just an introduction."

"Alright, I get it, don't get cocky and all that," you state, somewhat annoyed she's treating you so lowly, "Now, can you start answering my questions? I'm willing to figure out how this works, but just be clear with me."

Stheno caps the bottle of tea, and lifts up something in her hood with her hand. She belches, wipes her mouth, and starts moving away from you, motioning you to follow with one of her finely manicured fingers.

"Walk and talk," She says, moving along the base of the memorial, "we don't have too much time, and I want to at least get you squared away. I want to help, but I'm not going to coddle you through it."

'Where the hell are all of these strange women in my life coming from?," you think, as you follow her along the base of the monument, "Used to get one or two girls in the party scene, but that was college...'

You go to speak, but then suddenly feel that familiar chilly discomfort in your head. It's like staring at an image of permafrost and then feeling the little icy needles poke into your head.

"That sounds like a personal matter, player," she states nonchalantly, earning a surprised stare from you at her clear discernment of your current female situation, "But as for your previous questions, I'll try to be as brief as possible. Whether through a traumatic event or natural talent, you're now a psychic."

You almost stop to her revelation, yet given the already surreal situation you're put in by Gantz, this almost seems normal. She continues moving forward, not waiting for your pace to match hers.

"Call it psionics, magic, the force, pick a fantasy universe and choose a name, doesn't really matter to me," she continues, rounding about the far side of the base, "as for the thoughts, I call it telepathy. Its most basic form is communication through thoughst, but there's a hell of a lot more you can do with it."

She stops as the base of the memorial cuts off into a sheer 10 foot drop to the bottom. You've never seen the actual back of the Lincoln Memorial, yet are kind of underwhelmed to find it's just a small patch of grass that cuts off towards a main road. Your gaze fixates on this for about a second, before Stheno jumps straight down.

Yet instead of quickly impacting to the grass, you see her body float almost lazily to the bottom. She lifts up one knee as she does this, and plants a light step on the bottom of the grass. She then looks up at you, and you catch a small glimpse beneath her hoodie. A white mask is covering her mouth and nose, and a few locks of white hair drop from the hoodie itself.

"Here's your first test," she shouts to you, looking up at you from the bottom, "Make it to the bottom, without dying."

"What are you crazy?!" you reply, looking down at her unwavering form, "It's like a 10 foot drop. I don't even know what you did to float down like that!"

"Your powers are tied to your emotional state," she says in that same unassuming tone, "Focus on your body, and visualize gliding, flying or floating, and you should do it, but you have to be sure of it. Now, are you gonna get down or pussy out?"

PSY - Mastery - Telekinesis (Beginner)

You closed your eyes as you jumped, both out of a tinge of fright and to keep your mind focused on the images in your head. Wind passes through your hair, yet it isn't vertically. Noise hits your ears, but it's the common din of cars compared to crack of bone impacting the bottom of the grassy bottom.

You open your eyes to see that your body hasn't not just hit the ground yet, but is slowly making its way down to from the memorial's walls. The feeling in your head as this occurs reminds you of the box at Walmart and how your head also felt like floating as well. It's almost euphoric as you slowly make your way down, yet a small pit of discomfort begins to build up on your head.

You're not three feet from the bottom before a nosebleed hits you, and that familiar pain returns to your head. It's too sudden to respond to effectively and your body falls the rest of the way. You manage to land on your feet, but collapse to the floor unceremoniously. There's the sound of clapping hands nearby, as you try to slowly get up and soothe your tired legs and head.

"Well done, same thing happened to me when I learned it," Stheno says, moving closer to you and offering a hand, which you rightly take, "telekinesis like that is as basic as the telepathy we did earlier. At my level though, well, you can do some really scary stuff with it."

You brush off part of the pain in your head and legs as Stheno moves towards one of the outlying trees in the patch of grass. She takes a seat at the base and motions you to her side. You follow, and adopt the same Indian style sitting position as you take a seat to face her.

"There's one more thing to learn, but it's arguably the most important," she states, "you have to learn control in everything you do with your powers. The best way of doing this, is to do a little something called introspection."

"Clear your mind, and try to even your breath," she continues, placing her arms along her legs, "meditation is the easiest way of doing this. Then, think of something that frightens you, something primal, and horrifying to you. It's going to hurt you, figuratively and physically, so be prepared for it."

'Easier said than done.'

You close your eyes, adopt the position and do as Stheno directs. There's a lull in the world as you clear your mind of any and all thoughts and ideas. For a moment, you see white behind your eyelids and imagine a great expanse beyond your own image.

Then, you see the image of a point in that expanse. From that point of black in the white expanse, a line forms, and then another. Several more form around that point, expanding out from it and seemingly cracking the white background. Then, from that crack in white, you see a singular, white eye staring straight at you.

The crack expands, and the rest of the scenery with it to reveal a ghostly, gory image before you. Three figures stand before you in their own stark horror. Kurtis is to the left looking pale, with a seemingly stitched up cut running right through his lower abdomen and a bit of an intestine seems to leak out of it. In the middle, stands Chris, a lip-less and burned grin looking back with both glee and ire. Yet, at the right, is someone very familiar.

It's you, but a much younger you from what appears like five years ago, back in high school. It's a stark contrast from the others, as his hoodie and jeans are pristine and he's sporting a very cool smile on his face. Their stark white eyes stare right back at you, yet don't say anything as they moves ever closer.

You don't get a chance to react before their hands find a way to your body. Kurtis is strangling your through, pushing his thumbs into your Adam's apple. Chris is moving to your arms, attempting to pull them right out of their sockets. While the younger you, is heading right for your legs, attempting to tug them away from the others.

You feel the pain of this occur all around you, in a very real realization that you may just be dismembered right here.

The pain persists for a few moments, before the violently thrown off of you with what looks like a powerful blast of energy. Their shapes collapse to the floor and attempt to get back to you, but they are pushed back just as well as before.

After the second attempt, they kneel down, looking at you with either scorn or contempt, not moving from their position. You look down at their bodies, and see that each one of them starts to fade a little bit. Then, Kurtis's apparition starts getting up.

"Who's it gonna be next Erick," it says, the voice reverberating in your head, "Carol, Dante, Carol? Who's gonna die after you screw up again?"

"Yeah, numbnuts, who's it gonna be next?" Chris's apparition speaks up next, getting up as well, "Who else are you gonna just throw away when they're not useful to you? I'm an asshole sure, but who are you who only sees people as tools in the end?"

"You haven't changed since then," the other you speaks up, grinning slightly as he says so, "throw away all of the bravado and friends, and there's nothing left in you. Stuck at dead end job, moved away because mom or dad couldn't even stand to you look at you, and nothing left to live for but some bullshit death game dropped on your head."

"In the end, you know you're a failure," they all say, looking right back, "A failure that begets more failures. You're nothing, and will remain nothing until the day you croak."

Their words cut deep, because you know they're correct to some extent. You failed Kurtis when you missed the shot and got him killed. You failed Dante when Chris's life was used to further your own ends. And you failed yourself, for a very long time as you meandered through your life without real direction or purpose.

You know you're a failure, but even if you know that's true now, it doesn't mean it will continue in the future.

"I'm not going to let it happen again," you say to Kurtis, who shivers as you say this, "And if it does happen, I am not going to just sit around and do nothing. I'll bring them back, just like I will you back."

"I made a promise to Dante," you shout to Chris, who's looking at you with a scared look, "We survive on our decisions, not on our regrets. If we're going to move on, then I can't accept your death as a simple usage of a tool."

"And I have a purpose now," you say to the younger you, imagining Paula's face as you do, "I'll live and fight for the others and for her as well. I am not afraid so long as they live, and I will keep the alive for as long as I live!"

The three figures visually cringe at this last statement and begin to writhe in pain. Their forms fade further, until they join the ever-stretching darkness beyond. The cracks form back, and align to that white expanse before you, before the whole picture fades out.

<April 17th, Tuesday 10:20 PM>

You awake from your trance in a gasp, feeling drops of sweat build on your brows. There's a bit of pressure on your chest as the inner gasp causes you inhale and exhale quite forcibly. There's the sound of clapping again, as your gaze draws on Stheno leaning against the tree.

"Good job, that was actually kind of exciting," she says, giving you a hand to stand up again, "That's a very important aspect of being a psychic, controlling yourself. Cognitive abilities let us see beyond normal senses, and looking within is the first way of unlocking it."

Stheno then begins to move away, back to the memorial. She doesn't motion to follow, just choosing to move further and further away.

"Whoa, wait..." You say, standing up, "that's it then? Like, can't you explain more, I feel like I'm missing something here?"

"You've entered a new world Erick, be proud of that much," she says, getting farther away, "You're still leagues below me and MY master, but you'll get there eventually. Look me up on that dishy board if you want some more help, but don't bother doing it on weekends. My brother doesn't like me out of the house then."

You only sigh in confusion as she eventually fades from sight. Before she completely fades, you catch a small turn of her head, to reveal a stark white face, and milky white eyes looking out towards DC. You look down at your hands, and flex out your fingers to see how all that power could work. For now though, you only look back at the memorial, and try to remember where you parked your car.

<April 17th, Tuesday 10:40 PM>

You plop down on your bed as soon as you come back from the memorial. You're tired, yet somewhat amazed at the revelation and newfound control over your abilities. It seemed like yesterday when you were coming home from work and got stuck in the series of events that changed your life forever. You're snapped out of your delirium by your phone vibrating.

'Died, then got locked in a game with killer aliens and now psychic powers,' you state, looking at your phone, 'And I still have to deal with this.'

<Sam wants you back early today. He said he's giving you a lighter shift on account of yesterday's injury.>

It doesn't take too long for you to get your assortment of bath fixtures and confectioneries ready for your small soak. It takes about 10 minutes for the water to fill up in your tub, and for the bubbles to start appearing there. You almost wonder how many times you've actually gone through the hassle of working this up.

Then you remembered the night you moved here, working up the courage to actually relaxing for a bit. Perhaps its the new change in your life that made you go through with it. Though, then you wonder as to why you didn't do it when Gantz entered the picture.

Either way, you soak and relax in the mesmerizing display of bubbles and tingling salts as you let your mind wander for a bit. The scent of the water, along with your own tired mental state, cause you to slowly drift away for a bit.

After about 40 minutes, you get out, and dry yourself off for bed. Even though you're going later than usual, at least you know you'll go to work tomorrow with a clearer head. After the day's events, it is something you desperately need.

<April 18th, Wednesday 8:00 AM>

You wake up to the sound of your phone's alarm. You reach for it and turn off the alarm subsequently, and head to the restroom to freshen up. With the fresh new ingredients you brought in yesterday, you manage yourself some toast, egg and cheese melts in your little oven. You even go the extra mile to get yourself some earl grey for the morning, to help was down the amount of fat in the eggs and cheese.

After finishing breakfast you head out to work, and hopefully beat the early morning rush. Before you head out though, you check your mail for your pay for the last two weeks. Opening up the Wal-Mart employee letter, you take out a check for rougly $2,100 for the payroll.

'Guess that overtime really helped. Guess we're heading to the bank later today.'

You stuff the letter in your pocket, and head to your car.

<April 18th, Wednesday 8:30 AM>

You're currently stuck not 10 minutes from the road that leads to Wal-Mart, when a sudden message from Paula rings snaps you out of the stupor:

<Just got a call from the station, I may end up coming late today so you may be solo with Yukino for a bit. Do your best Erick, and don't hesitate to call me if you need help.>

You message back a 'Thank you', and continue to wait for the line of vehicles to end.

<April 18th, Wednesday 9:00 AM>

There's a bit of commotion as you enter the Wal-Mart, with Ryan looking a little more mellow than usual and the other employees either disturbed or welcoming of his rather uncharacteristic tone. You don't pay it too much mind as you head out to your duties.

<April 18th, Wednesday 1:00 PM>

Like Ryan mentioned over the message, your work day comes to a close yet Sam made it a personal note to see you today and explain what your new manager duties could entail. Everything from handling employee requests to formulating schedules seems like news to you, but you eventually realize the work isn't too different from what you already do, beside being able to formulate your own schedules now.

You leave Wal-Mart, and head out into the city soon after you finish.

<April 18th, Wednesday 1:30 PM>

You arrive at the bank without much trouble, and perhaps a bit of a rumble from your stomach. While that toast was keeping you going for the morning, it's nutritious effects seem to be diminishing. For all its worth, you do spot a Subway on your there that may just be the place for a good foot-long. Either way, the bank's doors open up to reveal a surprisingly high amount of people here.

While you figure it's not unusual for there to be a lot of people in a bank, the scene is almost overflowing with moving bodies. You head towards a line, and start the wait for the counter. About 10 minutes in, and about half of the line gone, you feel someone push against you from the back. You ignore it, but then a hand makes its way to your peripheral vision. It's not just a hand, as a message on a notecard is drawn on it.

<Don't draw attention. It's me, Allie, and I want to after you're done here. Turn around if you wish to comply.>

'That journalist chick? How the hell does she keep finding me...?'

You don't turn around, in fact you try your best to just ignore the fact that this woman keeps trying to go out of her way to pry into your life. As the line moves forward, you feel another poke in your back and see a new note from her reach into your view.

<We'll keep in touch. It's very important that we talk eventually, though you'll see soon enough why.>

You try to keep yourself from snatching the note in her hands and just throwing it away with how obnoxious she's being. You keep your cool and stay the course for the rest of the line. You don't hear her move away, yet...something in your gut tells you she's probably not happy about you rejecting her.

'I'm not a damn oil well lady. What the hell do you even know?'

Current Finances - $649 spare cash

You head out of the bank and to get some lunch at the Subway nearby to get some lunch on the way. After ordering your regular choice of Black Forest Sub, you head towards Yukino's middle school, and attempt to forget what happened in the bank.

'Note to self, make sure to get in direct-pay plan before the next payroll comes.'

<April 18th, Wednesday 2:55 PM>

You arrive at Yukino's middle school and find yourself almost gawking at the sheer size and scope of the school grounds. The main building itself is bigger than most of the high schools you remember back in Virginia, and the grounds themselves are almost as large as your old university campus as well.

The buses begin to pile up near the main entrance, but you head to the staff parking lot where Ulrich told you pick up Yukino back then. After about 5 minutes of sitting in parking curb, you notice Yukino's frame run frantically to your car. After making sure she's strapped in, you head over to her house.

"Hey Erick," she says, as you make your way from the school, "it's so cool that you and Paula get to hang out with me today! What did you do today, or yesterday or any day previous?"

"Well, I met this weird lady yesterday," you start, with Yukino listening intently at your story, "she was really mysterious, and kind of scary at times actually. But, she was psychic that had taken an interest in me."

"Whoa, a psychic," Yukino says very much amazed, "Can she move things with her mind, read your thoughts, and see the future? Wait, if she took an interest in you...are you a psychic too Erick?!"

You somewhat hesitate to tell her and leave Yukino in a state of frozen incredulity as you head back to her home. Eventually though, probably since you can't really continue the story without that detail, you relent and tell her the truth.

"Yeah, I guess I am," you say, and Yukino's eyes open wider with her mouth in a slight gasp, "she asked me if I wanted help with getting it under control, and I agreed. I can't do much with it now, but I hope that I can learn to use it better."

"That's so cool!", Yukino says, but then looks skeptically at you, "Wait, but if it's really true then prove it to me. Can you guess what I'm thinking of right now, Erick?"

'Yukino, please...I'm driving right now...'

"Eh...I'll do it when we get home, alright?" you say, and can see Yukino puffing her cheeks out in slight frustration, "Hey now, don't look like that. It's a little bit of a dangerous ability for me to use until I get the hang of it."

"Really?" she says, looking at the road now, "I mean, in books and video games it looks so easy for psychics. I didn't really think it would a thing in real life anyways, but can't you at least make something levitate a little?"

"Listen Yukino, it's not that easy," you say, with a bit more of a sad expression, "I'm just a beginner at it honestly. I've passed out trying to use the abilities before, and I don't want to endanger you while driving."

Yukino looks downcast but nods her head in understanding. In spite of emotionally distant she acts, she manage to keep a lot of emotional balance in her expressions. You find it slightly cute, but at the same time somewhat sad at the same time.

<April 18th, Wednesday 3:00 PM>

You arrive with Yukino safe and sound to the Bader Condominium. After getting your sandwich and paying a hello to the receptionist, you both make your way up the elevator. Yukino's stride however returns when you enter the apartment.

For all of the ritz and glamour of the front end, the Palmers' residence is actually very modest in appearance. The floor looks well varnished, the walls are pristine, and the furniture looks top notch, yet it's overly done like you would expect the higher end of DC to live in. Yukino wastes no time in showing you around the house, and even to a small area in her closet where she hid her Gantz suit and a...Y-Gun.

"Paula gave it to me after we got sent back," she states, showing it to you, "She said that, even if she didn't approve too much of it, I needed something to protect myself. I don't know how to use too well, but I hope that she and you can help me with it."

She dashes off to her bed and sits down on it.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" she says, looking back at you, "What am I thinking of Erick?"

'Well...I did promise.'

Rolled 10 + 2 (1d20 + 2)

You figure that it shouldn't be too hard to do, unlike the night before. Though, this is the first time you've tried to pry into someone's mind before. If the principle of moving thoughts into someone's head remains the same, then there should theoretically be a way to have you conciously percieve a portion of someone's thoughts as well.

You try to focus all of your mental strength on Yukino's mind. Since you know where the place is located this time, it isn't much a hassle for your thoughts to reach here. Though, visualizing what's in her head takes a bit more effort. It's like trying to push through a stuck door, yet something eventually gives way.

<If you're such a cool psychic Erick, would you know that my dad keeps a loaded gun under the second sock drawer? He doesn't even know I know.>

Your connection is instantly severed as you reel back at that realization.

"Erick, you ok there?", Yukino says, looking at you, "you got a small nosebleed there. Want me to get you a tissue?"

"Y-yeah, that'll be fine," you say, looking back at her dad's room, "thanks Yukino. And for the record...just, stay out of your dad's stuff, alright?"

"You know about the gun?!" she gasps, handing you a tissue and looking a little too excited about it, "WOW, you really ARE psychic! But yeah, don't worry, I'll won't tell him I know. He's too worried about other things right now anyways."

'Yeah...no kidding.', you think, wiping your nose, 'Christ, Ulrich, what are you thinking here?'

<April 18th, Wednesday 5:30 PM>

The remainder of the time goes off well enough, as Yukino shows you a list of things her dad left for you and Paula.

'Help her with her homework, make sure she eats at 5, there's spaghetti in the fridge, and I'll be back around 10:00 PM tonight.'

You do as the list demands, and Yukino follows it through with you. While you can handle the food angle, since it's just a simple reheat, you find that Yukino's homework is kind of complicated. It's been so long since you saw algebra that the roles almost switch to Yukino teaching YOU about the homework. Eventually though, you get through it, and serve her dinner. After you finish washing up the plates, you hear a ring at the door.

"Hey Erick, you in there?" Paula says behind the door, "Open up, I got some stuff in my hands."

You head to open the door and see that Paula is carrying two dufflebags with what you can only assume is heavy. You help her inside and place the bags down.

"Thanks for that," Paula says, placing her bag down, "How was your day Erick? Hopefully you don't have to do paperwork today?"

"It's been fine so far," you say, closing the door and placing the dufflebag near the living room sofa, "But that reporter, journalist...whatever lady keeps popping up. I was at the bank today, and she actually sneaked up on me if you can believe that."

"Are you serious?", Paula says, putting her dufflebag near the sofas well, "This is sounding more and more like stalking now Erick. You sure you don't want me to get a warrant officer assigned on her?"

The train of thought is shortened by Yukino running and almost tackling Paula to the ground. They both say their overjoyed 'hellos', and Yukino tells Paula about the day she's had with you so far.

"Helped me with my homework, he got me spaghetti," Yukino lists off, while Paula listens intently, "Oh, and he also told me that...he's a psychic! Like, move stuff with your mind and read your thoughts psychic."

"Really now," Paula says, somewhat amused by her statement, "Well, you don't have to read my mind to know that I'll be keeping you both company for tonight as well. But first, get your jammies."

Yukino nods her head excitedly, and heads to her room to change.

"Now, what did that woman want?", Paula says, looking back at you, "Judging how annoyed you sounded, it seems serious. And whats' this about being psychic? Did you pull some weird party trick on Yukino now?"

'Come on man...'

<April 18th, Wednesday 7:30 PM>

"So let me get this straight," Paula starts, while holding her head with her hand and Yukino listening intently right next to her, "You had an accident at work, caused a box to levitate, then take the rest of the day off to meet this strange woman online?"

"To be fair, I didn't know it was a woman," you say, sipping what's left of your diet coke you got from the fridge, "But yes, that's basically it. She told me she could help me, and I may have jumped the gun and gone through with it after the practice session."

"Alright, so then you go with this stranger," Paula continues, her voice becoming a little frustrated as she continues, "and now you have psychic powers? This on top of that reporter that wants to keep stalking you about something she says is important enough that you'll see soon enough?"

You focus a bit of your energy on the empty soda can, and try to fling it into the garbage can. Surprisingly enough, in spite of your amateur attempt, you make it. But now you're bleeding a little from your nose. Yukino does a little clap for you, but Paula's just shaking her head in disbelief.

"I mean," you flash her a smug grin, "is it weirder than the alien death game? Granted, I don't trust Stheno that much, but I don't think she dangerous unlike that reporter."

"He's got you there Paula," Yukino chimes in, while Paula just rubs her temples.

"If I was an insecure woman, I would have suspected you cheating on me," Paula openly says, drawing a bit of Yukino's gaze, "But I know you're honest and serious about this, though it's not like I can deny it with that sort of display. But what about that journalist?"

"I honestly don't know," you say, looking back at her, "But...I get the feeling she knows more than she's letting on. Also...I don't think she's with the government, she looks way too open about herself to seem that way..."

"Alright, listen, I can help you with the journalist," she says, looking back at you, "but that woman you met, is something else entirely. I'll see what I can dig up but...no one outside of the game can know about it."

"I get it's a stupid idea to tell people about it, but-" you don't get to finish your sentence before Paula interjects.

"Erick, if you or anyone in the game tells anyone outside about it," Paula states, with both you and Yukino paying full attention, "Then Gantz will kill you, simple as that. Dante told me about it yesterday, said one of his previous teammates told him."

"So then...that reporter...", you start, and then Paula finishes for you, "I don't know if it will count that woman reading your mind about Gantz as evidence against you, but if that reporter knows something..."

"We've got to get rid of that reporter," you say, looking back at Paula, "Granted, I would never tell her anything, but I'd rather not take any chances. It's bad enough that the government is breathing down our necks as well..."

"Alright, I'll get a warrant out on her tomorrow, but you've got to give me time," Paula replies, "The bank should have security camera footage as well as that diner you went to in Monday morning. But the most I can do is get a restraining order out on her."

"Paula, didn't you say you had something to show me tonight?", Yukino interjects, which evokes a look of surprise from Paula, "Sorry for interrupting, but you were making a big deal about it over the phone."

Paula stops for a moment, and then looks at the dufflebag. She facepalms a little as she remembers.

"Right, the suits," she says, earning a look from you, "I was gonna teach Yukino about the suits tonight. Don't worry, I'll be here the remainder of the night, so you can go home now if you want."

<April 18th, Wednesday 10:00 PM>

You decided to stay behind with Paula and give Yukino pointers on how to use the suit. Paula instructs Yukino on how to put it on herself, behind closed doors of course, and you help her activate it on her own. She demonstrates this by lifting the couch with you on it straight off the ground. After a small laugh, and a slight slam as she puts the couch down, Paula teaches Yukino about self-defense when utilizing the suit.

They do light throws, take-downs, and end with sweeps, which they somehow goad you into being the dummy for. You had never really gotten to see a lot of feminine aspects of Paula, yet seeing her teach Yukino got you to think that maybe after all of this is over...
Your mind doesn't finish the sentence as Yukino sweeps your legs, and knocks your back. There's a small pain in your back, but Paula is giving her a pat on the back for doing it effectively while Yukino helps you up.

Ulrich arrives 10 past ten, but you and Paula are already outside and Yukino's put in bed by then. After saying your goodbyes to Ulrich and then later Paula you head home. Before you find your car however, Paula points out to you the secretary position at her HQ and how you'll need to get word about it to her by Thursday if you want the interview. You thank her for the opportunity, give her a light kiss, and head home right after.

<April 18th, Wednesday 10:30 PM>

You arrive back home, safely enough, and find a strange letter beneath your door. You take it inside, and get to reading it on your bed. It's from an unknown address, and besides the letter itself, you can't really make sense of its identity.

The letter itself is a paragraph detailing what looks to be a strange looking schematic below it. It's like an endlessly curling staircase, yet it seems to meet at a center, the paragraph itself however, is what makes you really turn back. In the paragraph, it details the two instances and times when the two games happened. It correlates not only the time you were sent out to the game, but also the time you returned to your apartment those nights.

Then, you read the final sentence.

<If you value your life, you will tell me what you know about Gantz.>

<April 18th, Wednesday 10:50 PM>

You don't waste much time before you're frantically searching on your laptop for anything regarding the letter's intent as well as what that schematic might look like. The internet however yields nothing, not about the dates or any of the other information you could discern from it. Then...the strangest idea pops into your head.

You type in 'Gantz' on the search engine. In seconds, you're met with a few resource articles about re-stating your query in the browser, like if you typed something wrong. There's nothing in the first page of the search bar for Gantz either, so you go to the next page, to find it blank as well. You give up your search after the fifth page, and then berate yourself about what a stupid idea for you to find anything about Gantz in the public web.

You slump down in defeat, but not before putting the letter in one of your tax folders, where no one will find it. A small vibration on your phone details a message from work.

<You're taking a late shift, but don't bother coming in on Friday. The police are finalizing their sweep that day, but they shouldn't bother us anymore after that.>

You physically want to slam your phone, but you relent on it. You figure that Friday may actually be a good day for training, and that you should probably make a call out to team in the morning. For now though, you lazily head to bed, slightly exhausted by the letter's revelation.

<April 19th, Thursday 8:00 AM>

You wake up to the sound of your alarm, and you chide yourself for having it set up on a day before a night shift. In spite of this you're more than well enough rested for the day ahead.

Getting your mind tethered to the litter is quite simple, as it is throwing them away. However, to make the process go a little faster, you try to focus on two at once. You try to picture, not one but two separate images of the cans lifting towards the trash.

It puts a little more strain on you, but you manage to get two of them at once. You attempt to do the same with three, but the strain of it almost causes another nosebleed to happen. But, you at least discovered that you keep your focus on two at least, something that you couldn't really fathom before this little practice round.

You decide to take a breather on your bed, and pull a water bottle straight from the 36 pack case without your powers this time. It doesn't last too long though, as you're making yourself breakfast soon afterwards.

'Guess it's not always the weight of the objects lifted,' you think as you ready up your daily omelette, 'but the amount as well. God, I should get some pancake mix...getting sick of omelettes.'

<April 19th, Thursday 9:30 AM>

After finishing up your breakfast, you sit down on your bed and think of all of the small problems littering the bigger problems. The FBI, that reporter, the letter, Dante's issue with his stepdad, that gun in Ulrich's drawer...it all starts getting so confusing at the end. You almost wonder how you managed to get so wrapped up in all of these machinations, yet you know exactly who or rather what to blame.

'We don't have much time to train this week...we've got to prepare ourselves.'

We will continue on Tuesday at 3:00 PM EST to try and finish up our second slice of life and get started on Hunt 3.

<April 19th, Thursday 9:35 AM>

You send out a call to Dante, and start readying your place to for the company.

"Erick, what do you want?", he says over the phone, "I'm in class right now man, can it wait?"

"Oh, shit, sorry man," you reply back, "Was kind of hoping for more of that fighting game fun if you're up for it."

"No worries, but you're lucky I wasn't in an exam," he states, and you hear a bit of noise coming from the speaker, "damn Gov. 101... Anyways, I'll be up for something after lunch, alright. Give me a call then if you still want to hang out."

He hangs up before you say anything else, though judging by his speed, it was probably more out of convenience rather than rudeness. Regardless, you cleaned up part of your own apartment in the time afterwards if for no other reason than to finish making it presentable for Dante, if he had shown up.

'Well...not a total waste I suppose.'

You consult with Dante first on the time for heading out to Roosevelt Park for some training this Friday. Not long afterwards, he messages you back for around 8:00 PM as an available time. Your acknowledgement is swift, and you get ready to mass message the others to see if they'll be available as well. Only Paula and Yukino manage to reply back quickly.

<We're taking care of Yukino remember? Unless you're planning on taking her to the meeting as well.>

<Aren't you and Paula hanging out with me tomorrow?>

You reply back to both about getting Yukino in at least one session before the hunt arrives. Paula agrees, but on the condition that she and Carol train with Yukino. You relent, and let her do as she pleases. Yukino on the other hand, is more than happy to agree and gives you a swift, 'Just get me back before dad comes back, or he'll have a fit.'

'Thank god for mass messaging.'

<April 19th, Thursday 9:40 AM>

Rather than wait for the others to just message you back, you head to your closet for your running gear. You ready yourself in your running slacks, your headphones, and one of your workout hoodies and head out for a good run around the neighborhood.

Your pace is even, your breathing is nominal, and your gait is sufficient. While you're still not at your previously peak performance, that being your high school senior days, you manage the run sufficiently well.

Throughout all of this, your mind wanders away from the deluge of ideas and conflicting emotions that have built up. The hunts, work, and even the stress of your relationships begin to unravel out of your mind. The focus in your head is solely on the run, and where it will take you.

<April 19th, Thursday 11:20 AM>

You're sweating out of your every pore by the time you make it back home. You're exhausted, but somewhat proud that you're able to manage this much. This isn't even after you just finished doing your cooldown stretches to limber up your tightened joints and muscles. After getting inside, you head into your restroom to take a shower, throwing the sweaty clothes in your wastebasket for laundry duty on the weekend.

After making yourself clean and putting on a fresh new set of clothes, you head to your bed to see if the others have responded to your message. The first reply is from Tanjeet.

<Sure, send me the address and I'll make it.>

You quickly paste Roosevelt Park's address to him and scroll to the next message, this one being from Carol.

<Cool, I'll be there, no school tomorrow so I can stay the whole time.>

You send her a quick reply of confirmation and turn off the screen.

'Sweet, looks like we're set,' you think, lazily twirling the phone in your palm, "There's still an hour or so before I have to report to work though...'

Stheno's spoke of the importance of a healthy mind when utilizing your psychic powers, yet only went into detail regarding the method of achieving this. You head to your bed, and assume the meditative position that Stheno did with you on that night. Placing your hands on your knees, and closing your eyes, you let your mind dwelve away for a bit.

While you've always thought of meditation is more of a spiritual action, there's something about it here that makes you feel that it's doing more than just calming you down. No...there's something else here entirely, something you're missing.

'There's gotta be something more to this.'

A few moments after you started lifting your mind of extraneous thoughts, you begin to feel a floating feeling around your body. Like you're being suspended by invisible ropes attached to your extremities. You want to open your eyes and see if this is actually happening, yet your focus keeps you from doing so.

Then, the darkness of your closed eyelid give way to a familiar sight. The white expanse is before you once more, yet there's something different about it. The ground or rather the bottom-most part of your sight is moving in a manner similar to water, its form sloshing like small waves in the sea. You follow its movements to what you can only describe as a dip in the distance, very far away and seemingly drinking up all the ground-water that heads down to it.

<Hey there.>

A voice speaks behind you, and you spot the younger you standing with his feet dipped slightly into the water. He's nude, yet he doesn't seem at all embarrassed by your gaze. You ready yourself for another tirade from him, yet he only moves towards the dip.

<Don't lose sight of the present, you almost did for a while. Anyways, if you want to catch up again, I'll be waiting here.>

He points to the dip as he approaches closer, his foot almost being dragged in as he does so. There's a friendly smile on his face as he's finally pulled into the dip, and your vision goes black.

<April 19th, Thursday 12:30 PM>

You open your eyes somewhat calmly, blinking a few times to adjust your sight. You sigh in slight relief to know that you did not have to endure that same horrible encounter as last time. Though, it seems that weird white expanse appears whenever you try to meditate on something...

That strange dip in the ground was new however, as was the younger version of yourself. You'd seen him before, yet he seemed more calm and even empathetic now.

'What the hell was that about though?'

You don't dwell too much on it before you spot the time on your phone. Moving from your bed, you grab your coat, and head to work.

<April 19th, Thursday 9:00 PM>

Today, and by extension tonight, was a very hectic day for Walmart. Between the usual heckling from customer service and the sales departments, you also had to deal with the new headache of organizing schedules for your co-workers today. It's a pointless exercise in organization as you know that there's always those idiots that won't show up anyways. Sam's instruction makes it a little easier however, and you stride through the slog well enough.

Sam informs you that if you can take an extra day next week, most likely to cover up the day of your accident, you may have a clearer shot at earning that manager position. Regardless, the point of the hours still stand, and with having a more versatile schedule, there could be more possibilities to do more during the day. You leave tired, yet know that you may be on the road to something better after this week.

<April 19th, Thursday 9:30 PM>

You arrive back home well enough and plop back in your bed, both physically and mentally exhausted. Even if you did make manager, the amount of tasks you've got to do only seems to increase. You begin to wonder if all of that is worth an extra five dollars to your name...

There's a vibration on your hip, and you see that it's a call from Paula. You quickly answer it, and greet her over the phone before she starts speaking.

"Hey Erick, hopefully I'm not intruding on anything. Anyways, you got an answer to that secretary position I described for you yet? I need one before tomorrow morning, as they can only give you an interview a day in advance."

'Speaking of work...'

"Actually Paula, something's come up," you say over the phone, "Walmart wants to promote me to front-end manager and I think I want to take the job. The pay is higher and the hours are much more manageable as well."

"No that's fine Erick," she says, kind of happily, "I'm glad that they gave the position to you, considering how much work you put in over there. No worries about the other job, I'll just let them know something came up for you."

You happily thank her, and then she turns off the phone. There's a bit of excitement from the pit of your gut at the fact that Paula actually took the news fairly well, as well as on your own decision. For what it's worth, you figure that it's for the best considering you kind of committed yourself to Walmart as is, in spite of how thankless it may be.

This also puts a few ideas into your head about easing the manager process for yourself. Some of which you'll have to run through same on Saturday to see if he'll approve.

'Maybe I can add rest-days or some bonus for associates that sell over a certain amount. Certainly already beating Ryan's dumbass system for getting customers.'

As you lay in your bed, you figure you still have a bit of time before you head to bed. Is there something else to do?

After some careful consideration, I don't think we'll be able to continue this too much longer without reaching the limit. The idea of getting auto-saged fucking terrifies me so, I think we'll have to two-parter this slice of life, and probably all that come afterwards.

I want to run more today, but given the low turnout and the low movement of the board, I may have to call it early tonight to reconvene at another time. I am so sorry if this disappoints anyone but I will have to archive this now before that worst case scenario happens.

Don't worry, we will come back this Thursday to at the same time of 3:00 PM EST. Hopefully then, I will be more relaxed and we'll get a few more people. Like I mentioned before, sorry about the abrupt end, but I will include your choices into the second part as soon as it happens.
