The Tyrant and his men have met in the Concord several times since a certain letter was received, for the message from Isarn has been much discussed over the last few hours, as Ieran troops receive the order to halt their advance into Reptian territory. Its text is simple; assist in defeating the invaders from the sea, and Isarn itself will assist Ier with carving out segments of Reptian land, by force if necessary.

Last time on Innerworld, a diplomatic meeting with the Ehwazi of the East involved their king setting their vassals free; something that sparked several conflicts that drew in all major powers but Isarn, and of course, yourselves; Ier. Yet, as Reptia won one of the wars, they themselves were beset upon by invaders from the sea, creatures who appear as plantlike as they do animal, or so it is said. While initially just sinking ships, it appears that they now intend on invading Reptia, though reports suggest they are limited to the water for most of the time by their own nature.

That being said, the Tyrant has asked for the Concord's advice on this matter. What do you say?

Listening to your council, Baer mulls over his response for another day before finally replying. It appears that he has agreed with the majority of you, he tells you in the Concord after he has handed off his tablet to the somewhat less tired messenger—after all, the islands are a major barrier to expansion eastward for Ier. If those can be taken, why not? The troops, however, should return home; if the battle is to be naval, they may not be entirely needed.

***

Two weeks (a unit of time said to be 6 days) later, on the 23rd of Septwaen, a response is finally received from Isarn.

"Good. Now that we are in agreement, we can give more information than we had previously. From what we have seen, the purpose of these "invaders" is not truly invasion, but rather, kidnapping. They are plucking Reptians from their boats and bringing them somewhere beyond our sight. At the moment, there is very little we can do to deal with this other than put forth our navies in the area where the attacks are most frequent, and attack there. The reason these creatures pose such a big threat is that not only do they appear to survive under the water, they can also maintain life for several hours on land. This is how they have been raiding Reptia; and if they move further south, this will prove to be a problem for you as well. As such, we would advise you to prepare yourselves, and also devote naval resources to Reptia's aid, though speaking to them, not myself, although I have told them of this end to hostilities.

- The Lord-Minister of Isarn"

The Concord hears this read aloud by the Tyrant, as discussion starts.
>>
>>2374718
"Fuck those Reptian cowards, who cares if they live or die."
>>
>>2374718
"Bah, the sea is not meant for ghoul. This is a good chance for us to see the folly of these creations we call boats, long overdue I say.
If the reptians want to sail out to die, let them. But we'll be defending ourselves on land."
>>
>>2374761
"Agreed, the ocean is a place for fools and dead men."
>>
>>2374718
"If this is true, let Reptia suffer. Send patrols to our coasts, but I see no reason why we should aid Reptia if they're not even being truly invaded. Ier has already done too much for them. It would be wise to learn more about these strange creatures though."
>>
>>2374718
Zelon sighs and then speaks.
"I do not doubt that our navy is up to the challenge that the Vaneads offer us. If the Concord asks me to rally the sailors and boats, I will do so."
>>
>>2374718
"They say that these enemies are plant like? Well, as far as i can see the best defense is o-offense, r-right? In any case, i want to see a "plant person" in person to truly believe in such a thing. I-Im interested in seeing how they are able to live and w-work. S-So c-can't we send someone to c-catch a-a-a live o-one?"
>>
>>2374761
>>2374773
“Is a little water too much for you to bare or are you just too afraid of whatever these things. I for one would be delighted at facing these new enemies who threaten Ier as well, even if some water stands between us.”
>>
>>2374814
"The Brotherhood fears nothing.
If Zelon takes our ships out I will lend him one warrior to prove our superiority, but no more."
>>
Baer sighs as multiple people bring up the point of abandoning Reptia.

"My decision was already made, and with many of you supporting it. Pulling support now will weaken the view of us among surrounding nations, and if the Lord-Minister's words are true, put us at risk for harassment as well. I do wonder though, what these creatures are actually doing. If they can't live properly on land, why attack the coast at all?"
>>
>>2374844
"Perhaps they just need things found along the coasts. He mentioned kidnappings which sounded odd. What would plant people need with other people?"
>>
>>2374844
"Do they need other species to breed? I assume that Reptian ships are fulled with their men and not their women, but who knows what to e-expect from t-them. How does a plant person even breed, is it just like any other plant?"
>>
>>2374844
"Slaves, food, breeding, who knows?
Regardless I say we wait for them to come onto the dry soil where we'll have the advantage. They simply won't engage the ships unless they know they hold the upper hand."
>>
>>2374844
"Food or slave labor. Who knows how they think. But surely, they could get food from the sea? I think they may be up to something sinister."
>>
"Sinister or not, the only thing we can do now is move forward. As the Riverisa have the most experience with these matters, I will delegate the task of organizing the ships to him; under the Sub-Tyrant, of course. We will need land defenses, I believe, so this may as well be considered a true war."

With that said, discussion dies down as Tarin and Zelon make their plans. That being said:

Sub-Tyrant and Admiral, what will you do?
>>
>>2374927
Tarin grumbles "We shall begin patrolling the coastline and along the river, making sure none of these fuckers come after us. Riverisa can take as many men as he needs to do whatever."
>>
>>2374927
"I firmly believe that in order to defeat our enemy, we must understand our enemy first. For now the fleet will be deployed to work on the defensive. guarding our coastal waters in conjunction with the land troops. Probing attacks will be carried out to obtain specimens of the Vaneads for a better understanding of them, and to see what happens when we eat them. We will also study vanead weaknesses in combat. We will also work with Reptia and Isarn and send them some reinforcements initially in the form of 15 40-man boats, we will send more reinforcements as necessary."
Out of the 130 boats in the navy (not entirely sure if this is 100% accurate, I'll correct myself when I check it fully), 15 shall be crewed and sent to help Reptia and Isarn to gain experience, while another 60 boats shall be deployed to guard our coast waters in packs. In total assuming the average boat carries 40 men that rounds out to 3,000 Men requirement.
>>
>>2374962
"Best of luck. I'll sacrifice a slave to Rok for your success."
>>
With those plans in mind, the respective missions that have begun to be carried forward by both the Sub-Tyrant and the Admiral have carried on for several months as the new year starts. While nothing has been reported on land nor the seas near the Ieran coast, reports from the 15 ships who are assisting Reptia and Isarn speak of a variety of these "Vaneads", all appearing plantlike, though a handful more terrestrial than others. Their "skin" usually a mottled green and brown, that is one of the few traits each hold in common, the others being a disregard for their own life in battle, and the fact that they, like all other races, only die when their "blood" is all gone. Reinforcements are needed though, as what the Lord-Minister reported to you was correct; they drag people down to the depths for some ungodly reason.

15 40-oar galleys have been deployed to Reptia. Another 35 40-oar galleys have been deployed, in conjunction with 20 50-oar galleys and 5 35-oar galleys patrolling the waters.

In addition to the existing reinforcements we have sent, we will send another 15 35-Oar galleys and we will pull 15 40-oar galleys from our defense forces to send as reinforcements

So defense forces right now

The Isans refuse, though some among their population were more willing to entertain the idea. In other diplomatic news, it appears that the humans, whoever they are, have gone back to where they came from. Lastly, Reptia seems somewhat upset that you have persisted in keeping most of your navy close to your shores, but that is justified, as more and more merchant vessels report raiding. The last raid of the year, as spring turns to summer, successfully takes down one of the 50-oar galleys, and a few more of your boats have been wrecked before that. The creatures' appearances, however, still appear to be shifting; some even have the eyes of ghouls...

The sheer amount of resources Rok has blessed you with gives you leave to experiment with design, and, well, you do. Messing around with blades has resulted in something that allows for a balance of both elements of swordplay. With a wider body, the blade allows for both greater blocking and strikes with the flat end of it, while a tapered point allows for penetration with jabs that are akin to more traditional daggers. This may slowly start to supplant older designs, as it is more effective in both ways. Once more, this relative period of peace has led to advances, though it was not invented by the still irate Tannish.

On the seas, however, things are going more poorly than before, as the enemy appears to be growing more numerous. This is especially the case with the more humanoid looking creatures, and a total of 15 or Ieran ships have been brought down, with others suffering crew losses as well. At the same time, raids on the shore have also begun, specifically targeting Khoril, as well as camps along the delta.

Reptia and Isarn say that they had an operation involving an extremely skilled water mage, but they did not return; thus, they have little knowledge. They do have a vague area they think the creatures stem from though, and it has earned itself the moniker of the Black Triangle because of its shape and reputation.

Also, finally, dead subjects of the Vaneads have been captured, three of them; one has been sent to each nation involved for study. The only reason it hadn't happened before was the creatures always took their dead back with them. While the towers are constructed, your specimen is examined; one of the more ghoulish ones, its form is roughly that of your own, but its anatomy is much different. This is with its green blood, lack of anything resembling skin, and strange wispy folds that it appears to be made up of. At the same time, strange, almost vestigial organs sit inside the rhing, mirroring your own. Even the double heart structure is present.

The raids have decreased now, but the attacks on ships are ramping up...

While some mineral deposits are quite different from what you've expected, a basic understanding of the natural elements that are associated with the various metals and rocks you seek has been noted.

Also notable now is the fact that some ghouls have figured out what exactly the enemy's flesh does; upon consumption, it allows for, apparently, the faster learning of skills. However, other than in extremely small quantities, it can be poisonous to the point of death. Also notable now is that the first wave Reptia met has all but disappeared, replaced by these human looking creatures. Some Reptian soldiers swear they've spotted a new generation, who appear to have mouths to breath; something they had lacked before.

-The battle of Ierok during the Reptian War, honoring the great sacrifice many paid to protect our home.
-The coming of Rok, filled with amazement, it details the creation of Rok and Roll with Rok's great rampage throughout Ier. Good for those interested in religion!

While those within the Temple have tried, it appears that this task is one that inherently comes with a degree of difficulty. It was a much greater strength than that man had ever displayed. Still, with this knowledge, the teaching of students is easier, as teaching what not to do can be attempted.

A theatre is constructed, and scenes acted out, with the most popular being that of a comedy based around an old tale of some fools who climbed the volcano. This, though the members of the party would go on to be significant figures in the early days of Rok n Roll, is taken quite well as a comedy. The title, of course, is "Romancing the Stone", and the romantic subplot follows a story summed up quite well by the title.

As for the personal project, many take kindly to Chobor, but others see him as someone already making moves towards becoming Tyrant before the current one has died... others still see this as a bad thing.

Difficulty: Very Hard
The hunt goes less than spectacularly. It turns out, even with a huge population hunting a creature, in a huge lake, it does not necessarily have to, or want to, be found. It does make an appearance at one point though, and that is when you strike, hunters tearing at its flesh, and one even gouging out its eye. However, you appear to have overestimated volcanite tipped spears, because, well, they're one use just due to the nature of volcanite, friction, and wood. Oh, and they splinter like little twigs next to a giant goddamn serpent. Bleeding and injured, the creature retreats before he truly can harass your boats, except this time, without any gesture affirming peaceful intentions towards you... you have not seen him since then.

As for the personal project of Kaeba, she was forced to enter the great city of the south as a perceived slave of her gnollish companions. While they stayed loyal, it was a discomforting experience for her. At last the city's name is known though: Zhik Faraw. It is rich in many things, and even compared to Moundtown or Isarn, it appears to have a greater population concentrated into one area along some river.

As a cocoa farm finds its roots in the jungles near Capanok, increased association with that area has seen the Capans try to grow their relations with the natives there. Though logging has resulted in a not insignificant amount of the forest being cut down, the Isans respond well to the gifts, and the current High Priestess even marries one of the higher members of the family.
>>
>>2376135
Difficulty: Hard

The Fighting Falzers, as they hoped to be called, is more or less the Failing Falzers. It turns out getting a bunch of jungle dwellers and bums to form a militia isn't a good idea. Whouda thunk it?

Difficulty: Easy
A small garden is easily assembled, turtles less so, though they do come in time.

>>2376143
Difficulty: Normal

Kalbun does well in training despite the mocking.

>>2376161
Difficulty: Hard + Normal
Managing to find men for a forge is difficult work these days, as most smiths prefer to be concentrated in Ierok. However, you manage to get some ghouls along the river to help, and thus equipment starts to be produced. The honey was harder, honestly, as not using a trader liason meant some groups took advantage of your relative lack of mercantile knowledge.

Difficulty: Very Hard + Very Hard
Despite all odds, you somehow manage to get your hands on a dead Vanead, a feat that won't be soon repeated (and wasn't). However, the one you did get was of an older generation, and on inspection, it appears quite different from the one dissected by the government. This one is a green color, but it is more like an amorphous blob of flakey vegetative material, bearing merely eyes on its "face", if it could be called that. As you peel away its layers, you find that the inner layers conceal gills as well as some form of vein system. It lacks any perceivable organs, other than a strange hole in its stomach that appears to be natural.

>>2376232
Difficulty: Impossible
You get as far as a tree 100 yards out from where the creatures nest before they spot you. Flying down at an absurd speed, you are only lucky you escaped with your life, jumping into a crack in the mountain up north too small for the creature to fit through. You stay there for several days, stuck, as the creatures seemingly monitor you.

Baer looked upon the Tyrants Throne in silence for some time, it was approaching dawn and he'd been alone in the Concord Hut for some time thinking of this coming moment. He would say there were many times he enjoyed being upon that chair, but there were other times he did not. The world had grown since he first put on the crown and it likely wouldn't stop growing any time soon. There were conflicts on the horizon and new challenges...but not for this old man, as the new day began and the fresh rays of light shone through the entrance, he took off the crown and placed it upon the throne. He would stand down as Tyrant and let the young men of the nation he loved lead them all into the future. As the first men began to enter the Hut he turned to deliver the news, his time was done.

He'd addressed his fellow Concord Members "It has been a honour to be the Tyrant of this great nation, to walk in the footsteps of other great men. But my time is finished, I hope that I did you proud in guiding us as best I could. The Throne awaits a new Tyrant, my the Blood Guide them well and Rok grant them Strength for whatever they may face"

As the Tyrant has chosen to step down, new elections must be held; with that comes policy proposals from a whole slew of new candidates. So, before the year is out, the various figures who wish to be elected begin to campaign...

>Goal: To bring together all cultures of Ier, for bound together we are strong but torn apart we are weak and isolated.

>How to deal with foreign affairs, specifically Reptia, Isarn, and overseas
Reptia will always be a threat to Ier as long as it exists, now with Isarn manipulating them for their own needs we must be as vigilant as ever even while we move together to combat the threat the Vanead show towards all of us

>Integrating new groups into Ieran society and autonomy related to themselves
We should seek to rectify this situation by the creation of sub-Concords to allow the Ieran subcultures a degree of autonomy and self rule, however we must remember that together we are strong and by fighting among ourselves we bare our weaknesses to the whole world.

>Direction in which the nation should move and whether thawing of Isarnite relations should be reciprocated
The thawing of Isarn relations are welcome but for every gift we must check to see if the other hand does not hold a knife. They are our fellow ghouls but they are not our blood, we will welcome them with one hand open but the other clenched around a sword. We will trade and break bread with them but will we not open ourselves to the spread of weakness.

"Like many Ierans, I do not like Reptia and Isarn. They hold only hate towards us, and the only reason I will work together with them, is because these Sea invaders are a threat to us, and that they have promised us Reptian Lands in the sea. As Tyrant, I will do my absolute best to limit Isarn and Reptian Influence, and if need be go to war. As a man who has sailed the sea many times, I believe that we must gain new lands, not just on the mainland, but overseas. I know of lands to the East, and I plan on investigating and discovering these new lands."
>Integrating new groups into Ieran society and autonomy related to themselves.
"The Isa have been faithful allies to the Ierans. I strongly believe in the fact that we must be friends as nations. The offer for integration into Ier still stands for the Isa, and if they choose to change their mind at any time, the Ierans will always accept them. If they choose not to integrate, I will maintain good relations with them, to the best of my ability. Those who come from other lands to settle here like some Lopeni will have to integrate into Ieran culture. The gnolls, as always will be enslaved and their population kept under control."
>Direction in which the nation should move and whether thawing of Isarnite relations should be reciprocated
"While the Isarn wish to thaw relations between each other. As I have stated before, we will curb their influence. If the people call for war against Isarn, who am I to refuse? Regardless, if we want peace, we must always be vigilant, I do not trust Isarn fully. As a nation, Ier shall acquire new lands, I promise it. We have lived in a Golden Age for many years, I do not intend to have it end during my rule."

>>
Due to Lorhan's advanced age, relative lack of dynastic political life, and role as a mystic scholar (or rather, mage), all culminate in the population coming out to support him. While other more niche candidates drew their support from appealing to particular bases among Ieran society, Tarin's similar policies to a younger, more politically "experienced", and less learned candidate further fuels voters to vote for him over alternatives, also bolstered by his unifying proclaimed goal. On top of that, his views of foreign policy attract much of the Ieran population, who unlike some in the Concord seem much more unwilling to truly associate the nation with Isarn due to, well, a certain founding father.

The population of these only rumored breathing monsters appear to be growing... one captured reportedly referred to itself as a Vanead before bashing its body into a rock, killing itself through lack of blood While this brings up an interesting point—is it merely blood loss that can kill these creatures, and if so, where is it most concentrated?—it is disturbing news that they can so accurately recreate something sounding like words. Furthermore, if there are more of them able to breathe on land, it is feared that these attacks will not end soon. The last bit of news related to these Vaneads is one that, while not perhaps creepy, is still odd; they smell like death. As Fall begins, their threat remains heavy in the minds of many.

The Tyrant would like to push forward the creation of Sub-Concords of which will be councils of 10 voted from amongst the people of any gender and age in the city. They will be allowed to create their own laws and govern themselves within their borders however these laws are overridden by those of the Concord and the Constitution of Blood and Metal. Lorhan purposes the first Sub-Concord be given to the Tannish people and the Isan invited to join Ier as one so we may properly recognize their borders. The government nearly gives women the right to vote, but instead elects to move forward with one of Tarin's goals for after his election: Sub-Concords. Seeking to ease some of the tensions that already exist with the Tannish, a Sub-Concord (rather self-explanatory) is given to them first, while the Isans once more reject the Sub-Concord, though showing more attraction to the concept of joining than they had before. After significant debate, a Northern Sub-Concord is given to the towns of Makh-Khor and Larok.

At the end of the year, Reptia has reported that this third generation of the Vaneads appear to be taking up their entire raiding population, and advise us to prepare for war; Isarn itself has already sent 1,000 men to them, and are prepared to send more to you and your neighbor if you wish it. Your own boats and shores are suffering as well...

It is the New Year, 354, and the weather has just started to shift. By the end of the year, it is predicted it will be winter, but the climate here is almost always hot enough to cause a sweat. Yet, as always, men march on to war regardless of that; and as Reptia is reinforced, men gather in Ier, along with 1,000 Lopenei and, notably, only 950 Isans. According to their leader, this was as much as they could give. As boats are brought ashore and their sailors set to to their new task, there is a calm tension in the air; one maintained for around two months, until Treyes. As this month begins, Ierok receives word from the watchtowers along the coast. Several large... things, have been spotted under the water, and it is assumed that the Vaneads accompany them. It looks like they are heading for the camps along the delta of the Great River. With roughly 7.5k men remaining in Ierok, a message is sent to the city as well as those forces in Reptia.

As orders are sent through, the enemy emerges from the waters during the night, as the 4th turns to the 5th. The scouts report that this group has not retreated into the water for over a week as you get their latest report on the 12th; and they have brought with them war beasts, which they are using to occupy the beach as fortifications are made. These reports are also sent to the Sub-Tyrant.

Moving out with the troops, the scouts report back with more news of what exactly the enemy is made up of in terms of the war beasts: along with strange, twisted looking versions of normal animals such as lobsters, much larger than they should be, they also have some creatures that have never been seen before; strange leviathans built of plant life. The army carries on with this in mind, until you arrive at the enemy campgrounds. In front of the lines, roughly ten or so beasts twice as wide as elephants sit, looking like immense mounds of vegetation. From what the scouts report, they move incredibly slowly, but they do act as a large deterrent. On top of that, they appear to have haphazardly taken apart houses and some of the camps to form a makeshift wall before you. While they don't appear to have expected you, these fortifications may hinder your assault.

While the arrows do pierce the figures, and as volcanite, penetrate deeply, they just shuffle around a little bit, then stop. You're not entirely sure why that is, but one of the archers swears he hit something vital in one... which is when you realize the problem. Even if the things die, if they move so slowly, they still are going to be an obstacle. At the same time as the volley is fired, many of the enemy appear to notice your presence. While there only appear to be a few thousand here, a few are moving in the opposite direction, and some to the beach; most likely looking for reinforcements.

While your shots are effective in setting fire to the fortifications, it does seem like the enemies had preparations ready for attacks based on fire; or perhaps some of them need it to survive? Either way, barrels kept in the camps appear to be filled with water, and the enemy is using them to douse the flames, and themselves. REGULAR SUCCESS

As arrows fly over the still figures of the plant mounds, they find their targets in the backs of the Vaneads, who, while great fighters, presumably cannot sustain the conditions needed for smithing under the water. As more fall, it becomes apparent that they aren't willing to retreat; in fact, Zelon calls it out as he sees it.

"They're using their dead as a wall!"

For some reason they are; and while it grants them protection, for many, it also blocks their line of sight of the battlefield as the push the bodies forward towards the wood and metal facade they had erected in your way.

While initially the objects give the Ehwazi a bit of trouble, as they put their back into it, they finally begin to move. The creatures roll over... to reveal roots.

"What on... they're just big walking shrubs!"

A shout from one Ehwazi causes a wave of nervous laughter through the troops; one soon halted as dark forms begin to appear in the water. While the distance from here to their other camp on land may be longer, the Vaneads have brought reinforcements in the water—combined with the 3,000 or so left on land, these figures may make up another 4,000 men. On top of that, some are riding the lobster creatures your scouts described.

As the elephants move in front and you behind, you carry on despite the newcomers; that is, until the elephants stall after they have broken through the wooden walls... you have no idea why, but the Vaneads haven't even flinched. They make strange tones with their voices, and if you didn't know better, you'd say they were talking. It's almost ominous, for a moment, but that soon gives way to fullblown panic as the elephants themselves charge wildly in every direction. Whatever the enemy has done, it's stalled even your finest war animals. Their first reinforcements arrive as this happens, also bringing with them... cavalry?

Though your Lopen allies struggle valiantly to contain the beasts, it is clear that something is wrong; even when restrained, the elephants seem to show a disregard for their own life. It as if they view you as the enemy; stranger still, others are charging the Vaneads. This unpredictability is leading to the smaller Ehwazi getting trampled, while the larger are gutted by the tusks of your war animals. That is not to say all your efforts are in vain, because, despite the reinforcements, the enemy can not do much with its lack of armor. However, its cavalry do present quite an issue; riding what can only be called giant shrimp, these monsters tear at the flesh of those who come near, meaning that the rider may as well have two weapons. That is to say, with all this in play, the front line is utter chaos.

Gaius Falzer is the first to take the initiative in forming the line; but as he does so a projectile is sent flying his way from one of the enemies.

"They have mages!" he shouts out as he deftly dodges a fireball that would have engulfed his head.

Yet, as the enemy mages try to sap away the flames, it becomes clear that for whatever reason, yours are much stronger. This still presents a problem as you send arrows through the fire, as you cannot quite see what you are shooting at; still, it is presenting much of the enemy from truly joining the fray as they come in from the beach. But the enemy approaching on land are much closer now, and they too appear to have both cavalry and infantry among them. What's more, some of them are wearing armor.

As Lorhan clutches the face of one of his opponents, the thing's jaw unhinges and attempts to come down hard on his fingers; it is only met with a blast of heat and flame in return. All along the line, the scene is similar. Slowly, but surely, the enemy is being driven back. Yet, as this happens, they begin to retreat into the water, seeming to know that their time here is useless. Their companions, still slightly far out, do the same. While you chase them to the shores, many a soldier dare do no more: those foolish enough to go past that limit are dragged into the sea along with the retreating army. One thing is for sure though; they will be back, and possibly in greater numbers. The Tyrant looks around at his men, and grimly recognizes that whatever these things are, the army will have to get used to fighting opponents that can erect strong defences and make war beasts useless: for if they don't, it isn't merely Reptia that will suffer at the hands of the Vaneads. It will be the entire shore of the sea they call home.

SESSION END
>>
Night falls on the 15th much the same as it had the day before, but the shores near the Temple of Rok are stained with the strangely vibrant and multicolored blood of the Vaneads. While there, the peace is maintained after a hard fought battle, nearby in Reptia, an unprecedented attack has just been reported to the troops stationed closer to the river south of Moundtown; the enemy are moving on Azh-Al, and appear to be trying to incapacitate the boats there. Unlike previous attacks, they appear to have come in a force in excess of 10,000 men, and have armor. Other than their cavalry though, no war beasts have been reported; a blessing, though the giant shrimp are horrible enough by themselves, especially as even more of their ilk emerge from the black waters. As the roughly 13,000 strong combined forces of the Isarnite and Reptian armies prepare to move, the last one to give an order is Gaius Falzer, commander of the Ieran military some 2,000 in number sent to reinforce their neighbors. He does at last after mulling over his options; join up. It is best to strike now, he figures, with the elephants in tow, for no war beasts and lack of fortifications held should provide enough reason for their use.

That being said, as the forces finally arrive three days later, the light of the morning brings with it a grim scene, and dreadful words from the scouts. Azh-Al fell quickly, and inhabitants who weren't wise enough to obey evacuation orders and fall further inland, as well as the garrison there, have all been dragged down into the sea. All foreseeable entrances have been blockaded, and the last count of the enemy before the scouts were forced to flee put them at an equal amount of men, give or take.

Coming quietly out of his tent, the Commander of the forces of Reptia, Na'dach Nim, requests something from Gaius that he's all too happy to oblige.

"Call for help."

Counting that as a dead heat, as I made an error in terms of correcting the DC. What I would normally do is just fix my mistake, not delete my post. Whoops.

As both the various riders and runners arrive to the shore of the river, they're met with a scene they were half-expecting; while only a ship or two are missing, several are missing parts of their crews. It seems like there was an attack out at sea, and while some men died, they managed to make it to you all. As you are escorted across the river, there are no further troubles; perhaps for a lack of men on their part.

Yet, as you begin to approach Azh-Al, a messenger approaches you; the Reptian forces have already begun the siege, because after a small party managed to make it in, they found the city virtually abandoned, and the enemy gone.

As you spend the night, Reptia responds to your queries throughout it; while mostly lacking information, one messenger says a survivor was found in the city. According to this small child, the "monsters" left about as quickly as they came, with merely a skeleton crew occasionally looking over the walls and walking along it. It appears this may have been done to give the illusion of an occupied town as they moved on to somewhere else. However, your fears grow as a smoke plume grows in the distance on the other side of the river as dawn's light grows. It might be a watchtower, but the distance here makes that hard to tell, especially as the light changes.

Boarding the boats still docked on your side of the river (for where else would they go with their men also on shore and having taken up arms?), you make your way to the other side of the river, before you are stopped by a watchman from one of the towers. Dismounting from his camel, he waves frantically to get your attention for a minute before he accomplishes it. Further down the line, apparently, some of the Vaneads had stopped, and were moving back in this direction. Because of this, he says, it's safer to land ashore here, move further inland, and go. Heeding his advice, you take that path, as you move onwards towards possibly another assault on Ierok...

With your 5,000 swiftly approaching the city, you are able to get to it in a few days, the limestone walls of the city standing calmly in contrast in your eyes compared to the beasts you believe to be just a day or so behind you. While you have sent a messenger ahead to the army of the Reptians, you have no assurances of anything, other than the most likely place for the Vaneads to strike being the Port District; and the fact that the city already knows of the approaching horde. Though this is but a small relief, as with only 7,000 men (with 2,000 granted by those who remained behind), and the reported numbers of the creatures before, this could be any man's (or perhaps one's) game yet. As you enter through the gate, it is clear that some work has been done in terms of preparations, including further fortification of the Port District, there still seems like there is work to be done yet.

Tyrant, what are your orders?

(Completely forgot to post casualties of the 5,000 earlier: Roughly 4,500 men are able to fight, with 300 or so heavily wounded, and 200 dead. You don't quite know the number of the enemy dead, but that's due to their varying body structure as well as lack of distinguishing features in some of the older "models" of Vaneads.)

With men on the walls resorting to launching flaming arrows into the constructions that make up the dock district, anything that can't be burnt is handled by the Ehwazi, and more specifically, the Lopenei who make up a not insignificant part of your army. Kicking and punching down the smaller buildings, they are careful to knock down two-story buildings only when more than two are present after an accident left someone who went without a partner dead and buried beneath the rubble. While the merchants and residents of the district obviously protest this move, when faced with that or death, they begrudgingly accept the undue fate their places of business and homes are receiving. The watch carries on through the night after the announcement of the impromptu demolition is given, and wary for anything malignant in the night, they finally spot it in the wee hours of the night as the 27th of the month is upon you; it appears, as moving shapes make themselves apparent in the ruins of the harbor that your enemy is too. Bows are taut and at the ready to fire whenever, but the sea beings are merely growing in number as time goes on, and not proceeding further into the city. They are gathering themselves, it appears, for a grander assault.

CRITICAL SUCCESS

As your arrows cut into the midst of your enemy, many projectiles find their mark; yet those that don't may still yet have their prey killed by some blow. That's the trick of fire and volcanite. Though there is little kindling other than the wet bodies of other Vaneads, volcanite provides an ample source of heat to dry their bodies to the condition of the grasslands in dry summer heat. This spreads like a wave in their ranks, an ocean quite unlike the ones your opponents here seem to know. As you do this though, much of your foes' forces that remain alive move quickly into the center of the district, followed by the new ones who enter from the sea; notably removing them from your range. However, others still are caught along the edges, and are forced to burn as more and more projectiles cut and burn their plant-like flesh.

Though one fool suggested charging into the ashes you had created, the majority decide instead to continue to needle your enemy as they made their way out of the city. While the harbor district remains off-limits for now, people go about their daily life, or a semblance of it; yet many choose to remain within the confines of Ierok for now. Some have no place to go back to, like those who lived where Ierok once was and where the Vaneads invaded and you burnt; others await new housing from the harbor district; and another sizable contingent fear that the conflict is not over.

In two months, that fear is confirmed, as another attack on Reptia has begun. The 7th of Suwez marks the Vaneads' first incursion into the small jungles on the Reptian coasts.

But the question is, Sub-Tyrant, what will you do?
>>
>>2396929
Remain where we are. The jungle is of no significance to us and the grand scheme of things.
>>
Though Reptia, and to a lesser extent, Isarn react with enmity to your lack of cooperation, the 2,000 men under your command near Moundtown remain in their positions, although alerted to the presence of the Vaneads. In three weeks, and with both the Isarnites and Reptians involved in the fighting, there has been no forward progress, and the Vaneads have occupied roughly half of the Reptian jungle; further reports suggest that the jungle north of the Reptian controlled areas are similarly occupied, but this has not been confirmed. In the meantime, Isarn has been applying diplomatic pressure on the Sub-Tyrant to move; mainly stating that if the Vaneads get a base here, they have a stage for further invasion.

Sub-Tyrant, what will you do?
>>
>>2397033
Fine. I and the rest of the army shall move north to help root out the Vaneads from the jungles.
>>
As you move towards the jungle, the signs of war soon become apparent; men pass you with injuries, others join your advance, dressed in the outfits of both the Reptian and Isarnite armies. It seems that the first wave wasn't successful, and as you emerge into a small clearing a day after you entered the jungle, that is quite clear. Corpses litter the ground, though the command tent still stands, as do many others, wounded or not. In there, Gaius finds the military commander of Isarn, who he does not know, and that of Reptia, Na'dach Nim. The situation report is brief, but grim: of 5,000 sent by the Isarnites, and 10,000 by the Reptians, 3,000 are already dead. The Vaneads this time had come prepared, and brought numerous water mages, as well as war beasts; the worst of which is something like a 5 meter long caterpillar, but its visage closer to an eel. It can survive the land just fine as well. The enemy stands at 17,000 men, give or take, and have taken several small, fortified hamlets further north. The commanders also confirm their previous presence in the jungle even further north, which the enemy had apparently used to secure their position before these raids. They show no sign of stopping as they move south towards Moundtown.

Sub-Tyrant, do you have any suggestions?
>>
>>2397141
We must leave the jungle for the time being. We can draw out the Vaneads onto the open plains further south as they march thowards their target of Moundtown. They will be easier to fight in open combat there and after that we can take back the jungle since they’ll be in a weakened state.
>>
While both men agree with the withdrawal, the Isarnite commander, one Wun Yasad, disagrees with your idea that they can be drawn out. He reasons that the Vaneads have no way to know what territories are the most defended, or even know that Moundtown is the capital. In fact, he also thinks that they have no reason to begin with; after all, from what has been seen so far, they merely are trying to create their first land holdings, and that means they'll try to make their own settlements before charging headfirst into battle.

Still, the armies fall back, for now.

***

Within a week or so, the news reaches Ierok, and is brought before the Concord; the first just addressing the loss of the jungle, and the second detailing Yasad's theories. Conversation begins as soon as they are read out...

Advancing as far as Lankum, the Vaneads have close to full control of the jungle; but they lack the small aforementioned town. Located half in the jungle, and half in the grasslands, it appears to be an important strategic holding, and the Sub-Tyrant leaves a small army behind. However, it is one so small that it is questionable as to why he is doing it, as it is against the advice of his fellow commanders... in fact, it appears that an assault has already begun. There is not even a battle worth mentioning. There is only the falling of walls, and a slaughter.

***

The Reptian jungle has been under Vanead control for close to three months, and it is approaching the end of the year without action on either side.

Tyrant, will you follow through with the rebuilding of the port district and the dismantling of the auxiliary army forces?

With the bridge's construction just beginning, the location is most important, and the spot is chosen right before the river widens out into its several branches to the ocean. While this seems a bit strange, the mouth of the river just there is shorter than other possible staging sites, though the rougher waters due to that bottleneck means Ehwazi workers have to be hired for construction help down below.

While no conflicts have been reported in the war, signs of Vanead incursion into Isarnite marshland is a cause for concern. While diseases there ward off any in the area, for the West Lopen region of your current partner, it proves a significant threat indeed. Winter's tidings are ill, indeed, as the season starts.

While exterminating the dinosaurs and other beasts that live there may be something beneficial to both you and the Lopenei in the short term, they stay out of it; their spiritual connection with nature may well be one of the reasons they hadn't done it before. While you weren't expecting their aid, the work is slow-going, and may take several years, if not decades, to complete, for some of the largest beasts, though a noticable drop in the population of smaller, slower-breeding, but no less deadly beasts is already noticed.

The Laws of Property
The property of the Tyranny- This property is owned by the state for the common good of the Tyranny.
The property of the Individual-This property is owned by people individually
Slaves- Slaves are designated as property either held by the state or an individual. In the case of the gnolls one can not hold ownership of more gnolls then they are capable of caring for.
Claiming ownership- To claim ownership of property the object or land in question must not be owned by another individual or the state. There must be some witness to the claim.

Punishments for the crime of thievery
If someone takes property from another member of society, The Tyranny is also considered a member of society, without permission the thief will be punished by whipping. The number of lashes is determined by the quantity and quality of the items stolen.

An addition to the Gnoll laws related to property
D. If The Gnoll population rises above 5% a cull can be called. Gnoll slaves will be culled in proportion to the amount each owner has. No one can have ownership of more than 5% of the Gnoll population.

The Laws of Property are added to the lawbooks after fierce debate, with the original bill being criticized as greedy by many in the public; still, the second bill providing for the rights of the individual is something not seen before in any statutes.

On the grasslands between the Isan swamp and the Reptian jungle that the Vaneads occupy, increased enemy movement has been noticed, and thus, fortifications have begun to be built by your partners, as well as raids on smaller traveling parties. There is a fear that the swamps are already occupied, but that goes unconfirmed, as traveling into it in many cases is a sentence to illness, or worse, death.

The number of the Bloodguard is raised, and a Bloodrider Cavalry is created; and at the same time, the confirmation is given that the Vaneads have a presence in the swamps. This was due to the few survivors of the outpost built last year; as a great force attacked from the jungle, they moved to flee, only to encounter a force from behind who held them long enough that the foes from the forest could strike. The report leaves out numbers, but that alone gives many a sinking feeling in their gut.

Though combined with the bridge, the finishing off of the rebuilding of an entire district, this, and the sending of the army, resources are being expended at a fast rate, and winter saps agriculture as well. Morale does raise however; a Ieran values one Bloodguard over 10 Reptian soldiers, despite no reports of further conflict yet. The Reptian commander does say he is drawing up plans for something to be carried out the following year, however.

Though the economic model of the time is primarily based on farming, that does not mean you should be slacking in terms of the development of this model into something grander. While previously the value of something was tied purely to weight, standard scales had not been introduced into use; now, they have, and with that comes a further codification of the government's record keeping. If granaries are kept up to date like this, there should be no issue with food going forward, as long as the lists are kept in mind.

In Reptia, a counterstrike is finally had on the enemy; the initial plan was to send in those with incurable diseases already as scouts to harass the enemy before coming back, as well as using them as scouts... and it doesn't work. With little to go off of, the plan was halted before it move further, but resources from both nations are being diverted towards fortification of the border. Proper scouts' reports from the jungle do suggest the presence of new settlements though...

While chariots are important for the carrying of passengers, with animals such as camels, it is obvious that more can be done to carry things without putting such a heavy burden on the animal. As such, you have created something that allows beasts of burden to drag objects, as well as yourselves; the doored chariot. With two doors on the sides of the object to allow for the passengers to get in, it is essentially an expanded chariot with 4 wheels, the back generally containing restraints for boxes, baskets, and other containers of goods. This allows for the faster, and simpler, transportation of objects from place to place, though it does place a heavier burden on the pack animal.

Little has occurred in the war this year, though reports in the Nakh's lands bear striking similarity to some of your first encounters with the Vaneads.

General husbandry practices improve, as do those for the sowing of seeds. The significant Vanead news this time comes from the Nakh's lands again, with confirmations of their presence on those shores. It appears that their hold is spreading, and the Nakh do not wish to get involved in any conflict. They avoid them where they can. The Reptians do seem to be urging the Lukidor to face this threat on their land, though only time may tell if it is successful.

Personal Project: Ner Yuz, the current leader of the Ash Walker clan, cannot help but be annoyed by the laws of Ier. While she's able to still represent her factions wants in the Concord, the laws keep any of the women of Ier from receiving formal combat training. Herself being a decent warrior and seeing the tactical disadvantage this could one day cause for the city of Ierok, Ner begins offering lessons to any woman who's able to lift a sword. While she knows that she won't be making any Bloodguards, she hopes that the next time Ierok is under siege the people will be better prepared.
