>New player?
Synopsis: This is a dark fantasy quest where death is closer to you then your shirt. Currently, you're playing the rogue Kae. After living most, if not all, your life in the woods you are forced to rejoin society due to the ever dwindling game in the woods. After coming to Wilstown, and finding it devastated by some unknown force, you are quickly recruited by the mayor into a witch hunting quest. Soon after you meet a knight named Jackson and the two of you venture deep into the witches lair where we presently find ourselves.

>Old thread?
http://archive.loveisover.me/i/thread/529596/

>Schedule?
I update every 1-4 days, depending on how busy I am with school work. On holidays I may update everyday, on exam crunch time I may not at all. This is not a quest that you have to show up on time for, drop in every day or two and you wont miss anything. Lastly, I will use the same thread until it falls off page ten.

>Rules?
-Prompts that are more in depth have a better chance of succeeding. Example: you have a better chance of success if you provide an argument as to why the monster shouldn't eat you then if you simply say "convince him not to eat you".
-Prompts have to make sense in continuity to the story. Example: characters who are established pacifists wont start murdering randomly for exp.
-No meta gaming

Your peaceful surrender to the encroaching reaper is rudely interrupted by the thunderous sound of splintering wood, the door Jackson was working on has beat you to the redline and abandoned its hold on life before you could. A pale light washes over you and the otherworldly grip that held tight releases. The memory’s that seeped from you return all at once, and you know that you must escape! You look up and see Jackson not even six feet away from you, he was so close all this time? But you felt yourself being dragged away, surely you would have heard him from so close? A moment later Jackson is gone from the door frame, he has entered into the room and moved out of sight again.

You may be free now but moving is difficult, it feels as if your whole body is bruised. It aches all over but you start to crawl towards the light, you fear that what ever got you will come back and you cant let that happen. You get up on one knee, then the other, and continue escaping. Strangely enough though you seem to have forgotten what it is that you are escaping from, in fact why were you on the ground again? You cant seem to remember, only a sentence ago you were running from something but now you cant for the life of you recall! You look back into the darkness and feel fear, deep and primal, but you cant recall why. The only thing you can remember is that you don’t want to head back, so you keep moving until you are in the safety of the light. Soon you forget the whole experience, you are never able to account for the bruises.

[Sidenote] I reequipped our bow into our offhand since we no longer have the torch.

The room opens up into a small laboratory, the light seems to be coming from a lantern on one of the tables. You spot Jackson, he seems to have cornered two skeletons and a very frightened woman. You recognize her immediately, she is the woman from the woods!

You string an arrow and try to line up on the witch, unfortunately with Jackson and the shambling bone terrors standing directly in your way you are unable to get a clean shot. You quickly reposition yourself up the catwalk to get a better view. With a direct shot now available you feel yourself hesitate, your nerves are high but you have never killed another humans before. Your blood runs cold and you let out a nervous yell to the witch, “dismiss these abominations! don't make me do this!”. She doesn’t comply, but continues cowering in the corner screaming for her own life. She may be unwilling or unable to do as you command, or maybe she cant even hear you, either way the skeletons stand their ground.

This leaves Jackson untroubled as he cleaves one of the creatures in twain, the other skeleton moves to bar his way in defense of the young woman, but from what you have seen from Jackson up to this point, its efforts will be minimal at best.

Standing above and surveying the battlefield you get a good look at Jackson. As “wonderful” as Jackson is, you cant help but wonder if you're on the right side of this fight.

It is your turn again, after you its Jackson again, then finally the witch(?) dead last. You may delay your turn but it will drop you to the very end of the queue. Standing above everyone you have the advantage.

What do?
>>
>>2411633
Let Jackson kill the second skeleton, then threaten the witch with your bow. Ask her who she is

You reposition yourself even closer to the fray, standing right above the frightened woman you call out to her again “call off your minions! This is your final warning surrender peacefully!” She heard you this time, she weeps at you for mercy “I don’t have an power over them! Please save me from this demon ill do ANYTHING please!” . You’re not sure what to do here, this is not the witch hunt you envisioned at all, there was much more heroics and much less cornering seemingly defenceless woman. But in the end you decide to trust in Jackson, your future husband can do no wrong. You decide to do nothing, Jackson will do what must be done.

You first watch Jackson disembowel the final skeleton, then you watch as he turns to the witch(?). He drops his sword and begins to moves on her, it seems that he means to tear her apart with his bare hands. With her guardians gone the witch(?) is pushed deeper into the corner attempting to make herself as small as possible, teary eyed she starts making some strange gestures with her hands as if calling to the sky then preparing to clap her hands with great force. “Has her grief driven her mad?” You watch with odd fascination but when she final clasps her hands together nothing seems to happen? What was she expecting you wonder? The woman seems as confused as you are, but there is also much desperation in her confusion. What ever she was planning it, seemingly, didn’t work.

” Please, please you don’t have to do this...” She speaks to Jackson but he is unhinged and deaf to her crys. The woman’s eyes dart to you as she gives one final hopeful look, but you look away. You KNOW whats coming and there is nothing much you can do. You consider trying to REASON with Jackson, to maybe interrogate the woman first. There are SO many questions left unanswered after all! But in your heart you know it to be hopeless, you can see Jackson is not “all there” anymore.

Ultimately, you are a survivor. The mayor and his money may be your only ticket out of a slow death by starvation. After all isn’t that why you've came to civilization for in the first place? You don't even have to get your own hands dirty, Jackson is dispensing with the villain personally... Yes... The VILLAIN, this is all her fault in the first place, she SHOULD die here... That's what you tell yourself anyway. You watch as Jackson places the woman’s small head into his massive hands, with his thumbs he gently brushes away the tears from her cheeks. The woman starts to plead her case one last time, softly she says “P-please sir, I-I can cook and sew, a-and I keep a tidy room I can be of use to you please” . It all falls on seemingly callous ears, Jackson places his thumbs over the woman’s eyes and she lets out a whimper and a small cry.

You cant watch this, turning your head just in time to avoid what happens next. You don’t have to see it because you hear it, a blood curdling scream fills the otherwise noiseless dark chamber. You cover your ears and keep your eyes shut but it doesn’t help, you hear everything. How can anyone scream for so long you wonder? Eventually her screaming is replaced by a gurgling sound and every now and then you hear the light snapping noise of bone. Eventually it does end and you are once again surrounded by darkness and silence... You look back over at Jackson, he is standing over the remains of what used to be a person. He pulls out a poniard from his belt, kneels down next to the woman's body and starts stabbing. Over and over again he drives the dagger into the body, over and over and over without any rhyme or reason. You feel like vomiting as the blood starts to pool around him.

Guys i've seen this type of behavior before. It's what the new kids are calling 'righteous fury'. Normally most 'paladins' solve this with a therapeutic witch burning. But we don't have the time for that, my suggestion we try to slowly bring Jackson back to reality away from his little 'purge the heretic' mood he has going on.'.
Tapping him on the shoulder and calling his name while keeping a distance when he turns around seems to work most of the time. We don't have that deep a relationship from him so that may be the most we can do for now.

Enough is enough you decide, stumbling around for the closest object you find yourself some copper tongs. In an attempt to snap Jackson out of his madness you throw the tongs right at him. They ricochet right off his helmet, unfortunately it doesn’t seam to have any effect on him at all. You worry about getting too close to Jackson yourself but you may have no choice in the matter if you wish for him to stop. Stepping down from the catwalk you out stretch your hand towards Jackson, hesitating momentary, before placing your hand on his shoulder. You feel his shoulder twitch as if your hand had sent a jolt of electricity through his body. “Its ok Jackson, you can stop now” you whisper, no effect. “You could have used your sword you know, this was maybe a bit excessive” you continue, no effect. You lose your cool a bit and give his shoulder a shake, “God damn it Jack she is DEAD, you killed her please enough is enough” you shout. Jackson finally stops stabbing the body, after a moment he drops the poniard and after another moment he turns to face you.

You cant help but try to step back from him but he is up and grabs a firm hold of you, Kae, what are you doing down here? Didn’t I tell you to stay where its safe? . Progress, you got through to him but he doesn’t seem to happy. Is something up there? Did something force you down here? ... Are you hurt? . No, no i'm fine Jack I just wanted to help so i came down... you reply. He pauses to think Kae... How long have you been following me? How much did you see? How much have you SEEN? His grip tightens considerably with that last question.

There are no demons involved so far as we've seen. There is a witch that works black magic because he/she can't control it, and Jackson is the other adventurer that went after him/her.

Keep in mind also that the evil magic rape spell stopped as soon as Jackson knocked down the door to the dead girl. There could be more to Jackson, but he's probably not the witch. With any luck, he just purged too hard before regaining his senses.

As his grip tightens the fresh bruises on your arm, that you didn’t even know you had, start to ache. Looking up at Jackson you cant help but realize that he is a pretty scary guy. “Listen Kae now that you are down here and have gotten yourself involved, I want you to take this” Jackson reaches for the lantern that was standing on one of the tables, using it he lights a table leg to create himself a torch, before passing the lantern to you “and start piling all the furniture in the other rooms together we are going to burn EVERYTHING”. “And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING don’t get any ideas. I don’t feel any taint in this place anymore but keep your guard up, ill come running if you need help, I'm trusting you with this don't do something stupid.”

Heading for the door you venture a glance at Jackson, he seems to be standing transfixed over the body of the woman he slayed. You’re not sure if you should leave him alone but you have your instructions. Looking into the hallway the light from your lantern pierces all the way down the hall, the dark smog that abstracted your light before seems to have gone yet, for some unknown reason, you feel deep unease walking back into this corridor.

One foot out the door and you already feel strange, a cold shiver runs up your spine. Luckily, you suddenly recall something very important. There was a second figure with the witch outside, also why would a single person need TWO beds? You swivel right around and walk right back into the room back towards Jackson and away from that harrowing corridor.

You tug on Jackson's tabard, and try not to look at the cadaver, “Yes Kay? What ever is the matter?” an odd question considering the situation. You explain to Jackson what you saw, and the issue regarding the two beds, “I didn’t get a good look, but I think there could be another person here.” . He nods his head in understanding, Jackson lifts his chin up and takes a few wiffs of the air like a hound. “Hmmm... Are you sure it was not one of her minions?” [Charisma: success] “No matter lets go together, stay close behind me”

Entering the corridor with Jackson relaxes you. What ever Jackson may turn out to be, he is one thing for sure, a damn good monster slayer and a good person to have standing in front of you. Coming up to room C Jackson reaches out to the door handle, you cant help but tense up. But as it swings open its just a storage shed... a storage shed filled with a generous amount of provisions! All sorts of meats, vegetables, and even HONEY. You have not had any honey since you were just a child but there is a JAR of it on that shelf. Jackson who has been watching you closely understands all to well what you are thinking. He bars your entry into the room, with his bulk and with his free hand tips on shelf over into the other then with a good kick sends it all, like your hopes and dream, toppling, toppling down, down, down.

Once you have collected yourself the two of you get ready to open up room B, with your luck you imagine that a hot bath and a soft bed are waiting on the other side waiting for Jackson to destroy. But it turns out to be nothing more then a study, full with books, writing materials, and a single desk. Jack turns to you ”See, nothing to fear. Ill handle this room and you handle the one a little ways down the corridor then we can do the big room together” . Before leaving you question Jackson as to WHY you are destroying all this wonderful stuff? ”Only the cleansing touch of our lord Solar can cleans this place, it must ALL be burned” . You wonder if he plans to burn his own cloths too...

You feel a bit silly, I guess it was one of her minions after all... Still, why two beds? Unfortunately the mystery may have died with the witch... Entering room A you take a look around, [Hunter] scouting around the beds and the furniture, you don’t detect the presence of more then one person living here, one bed is clearly used regularly and some assorted tools such as combs and a mirror point towards a woman lodging here. Rummaging through the room; you find, 2 candles, a journal, a book with strange scribbles in it, two sets of robes, and a summer outfit that is comprised of shorts and a shirt. The shirt is beautiful, you cant help but admire it. The one you have been wearing has been 5 sizes to small for years now, exposing your belly to the elements and sporting sleeves that only run to your elbows. This shirt would fit so snugly and so perfectly, It would go a long way to improving your usual downtrodden emotional state.

You cant help but feel watched, so you hurry to the task of piling the furniture together and dumping out your oil flask all over it before heading back to meet Jackson.

>Do you want to do anything else? Also did you take anything from the room and hide it away in your bag? If so, what did you take?

As much as Jackson plan sounds nice, it's impractical to Kaes survival. Read through the journal & "attempt" to understand the scribbles in the book. If were lucky this info can help us with any hidden rooms, if she was the witch & what "didn't" happen in the hallway. If were unlucky & Jackson comes to find out what were doing. We can detest something about are hunters culture, that we take from what we kill & that we've been in rags for month (reasonable reason for why Kae is a murder hobo/why Kae can act angrily to husbando ).

You love Jackson, you really do, but SOMETIMES he can be a bit... “Eccentric”. Its nice to see that he has himself a hobby but he is just being a bit too overzealous and unrealistic at times. This is all perfectly good stuff and burning it all to a crisp would be the true crime here so you decide to pocket the candles. As for the book and journal you give them a quick read before adding them to the pyre, maybe not everything here is “tainted” but if Jackson caught you with some necrotic scripts the trouble you would find yourself in wouldn’t be worth the risk. Looking through the book it seems to be page after page of strange symbols randomly drawn on the page, [Int(Artist): Success]you can sense there may be a pattern here but you are unable to discern it without dedicating some solid time to the task, so you ultimately learn nothing. The journal is also too long to read with the time you have available, so instead you skim over that last entry...[“ I’m going out into the woods tomorrow in search of something to eat, I dare not take from the pantry. How can the master eat that stuff? How can he expect ME to eat that stuff? He is MAD I have to escape before he returns... Its been so long since he was last here maybe he has died? I can only pray that my brother finds me, these risen dead keep me safe but they wont let me leave! I know the answer to defeating them lies in their heads but they never let me examine them. I have learned much from the books in masters study, he said I should never touch them but he is not here and I know that im ready! Maybe I can find the key to my escape inside them... I must stop writing in this book but with no company I feel that I will go insane without it... The walls are watching me, and in the darkness I can feel something is with me... Maybe I already have lost my mind ”. ”Fascinating”.

You throw the extra set of robes onto the pile as well, [if(roll <= 6); take summer set] but try as you may the shirt and shorts don't seem to want to leave your hands! They are so nice and you would look so good in them... You hear Jackson calling so you stuff them inside your bag along with the candles. You’re sure Jackson wont mind, after all these cloths are for him too <3.

Meeting back up with Jackson you return to room D and start piling up everything and even gathering up the skeleton remains. You’re not sure when but while your back was turned Jackson seems to have moved the witches body and thrown it on the pile. There is much more stuff here then in the other rooms so it takes more time to get everything sorted. The lab is full of interesting instruments, diagrams, concoctions, glowing crystals, and trinkets but under Jackson's watchful gaze you don’t dare take anything. If only there was a way to make him leave the room...

Eventually, you and Jackson complete your grand, soon to be, shrine to the god of fire. “Well thats it Kae, are you ready to see this finished?”

>>
>>2435934

By passage, you mean as in a passage of writing, right? That's, uh, probably a bad idea.

>>2436548

How about we mention how that woman didn't seem to have any kind of control over those skeletons, and that she really didn't do much magic stuff so how could she have created them to begin with? But, if per say, there was a teacher or master to the witch, point out the second bed again here, then it would make sense as to who the source of this land's ails would be.
>>
>>2436573
Good idea mentioning about the second bed could make Jackson at least somewhat pause during his 'purge' to rethink the situation. Although i'm still hesitant about mentioning whether or not she had full control that may not make any difference to his judgment plus it may make it look like were sympathizers.... The second bed is good evidence though so let's go with that. Trying to get Jackson to think theirs an additional more experienced culprit is a good plan.
.... Also he mentioned something about 'licensed magic users' should we ask him about that?

(I don't remember the full details and the archive isn't responding so sorry if there's any flaws in my memory)
>>
>>2436606

Hmm... You're right about sympathizing. How about this, let's ask Jackson about how people learn magic. Kae has no idea how this magic bullshit works, but odds are good that the right kinds of magic also require a mentor or teacher to learn properly. We can then point out that if there's a large amount of magic being thrown about in this area, and that the only culprit wasn't able properly utilize magic. This, combined with the second bed, should be enough to confirm the existence of a mentor without delving into heresy.
>>
>>2436612
Boom, good idea. Lets go with that.
>>
>>2436612
Directly showing him the passage is probably a bad idea. This sounds reasonable. At least we know the dead girl was a witch (in training).

Your all being to hesitant about this. Showing J the journal (evidence) is a safer bet then trying to make a persuasion roll about this. Not only do we have a direct source of information, he might know some of the symbols that were written down. Also perfect way to make him feel like a piece of shit. Seriously why risk him out right ignoring are explanation when we proofs?
>>
>>2436680
You must think in the conservative viewpoint while true we have proof i'm more than sure he will turn to hunt and purge and also...We kinda disobeyed him remember? It's best to trot around this issue with our tiptoes for now at the very least until we get his full trust.
"we are going to burn EVERYTHING”. “And when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING don’t get any ideas. I don’t feel any taint in this place anymore but keep your guard up, ill come running if you need help, I'm trusting you with this don't do something stupid.”
>After that we proceed to take something from a room and look through the journal of the apprentice witch. Which may have been a bad idea.

While I know showing him the journal is the most direct approach it's also push it to much plus the consquences could be very bad.... We gotta tiptoe around it....Plus even if she was a apprentice she is a apprentice to a witch/warlock so yeah that's still pretty EVILLL!!!!!
>>
>>2436680
>I have learned much from the books in masters study, he said I should never touch them but he is not here and I know that im ready!

The journal almost outright states that she was learning dark magics. If anything, it means that Jack was right about her. She was an apprentice, not a bystander. Jack can probably detect evil as well, so there's that.

If anything from what she wrote down & what we saw before she got moutained, she was inept if not harmless. Regardless of semantics to the degrees of knowledge she had with magic, if we show him the book it proves the point that he was wrong of her being a threat. Yes we did disobey him but he already disobeyed us earlier (1st contact in the forest). If he gets mad at us we can not only provide the proofs of the journal we can explain to him that frankly what looks like a innocent girl who only knew basic magic (key here is not dark magic, assuming there's a difference in OPs world) was a prisoner to a greater threat.

We wouldn’t be in this situation in the 1st place if hadn’t charged at a clear prisoner and stuck with the stealth approach. (she was covered in dirt, she ran from us the second we attacked, she begged for life throughout the fight, and only defended her self when she was cornered she’s waiting for her brother to rescue her. Key signs of a non-threat)

You guys bring up good points, but this is are opportunity to show J. that he can’t just go into Deus Vault mode whenever he pleases. He is objectively in the wrong on this, and has only made are job of finding this bbeg harder (congrats on op for making this deep enough to discuss this)

>>2435852
New approach:
>Kae directly confronts Jackson with the new knowledge & proofs. She explains what she now knows about what happened, the master, the shadow monster, & the innocent girl.
>>
>>2436784
It doesn't matter if she is inept or not, what does matter is that she was apprenticed to a witch/warlock and did try to infer more about the dark magics/magics. That's what matters here in my opinion not that she is innocent or not but that she tried to learn more about the dark magic making her a potential threat that had to be purged. Plus she did try to do some magic on Jackson even if it was in self defence nonetheless. While you may be right that Jackson can't go into deus vult mode whenever he pleases it doesent go over the point that she was a threat even if it wasn't an active one.
>>
>>2436827
Like she isn't so innocent dude, you gotta see past that while i understand Jackson is a deus vult who is more willing to purge first and ask questions later. It doesn't go past the point that the girl that got killed wasn't so innocent and she was at the very least aligned with the witch/warlock in some way. Who knows what could have happened if she lived a little bit longer? The skeletons may have revived or something, or maybe she could have casted some devastating magic on Jackson. She did study her masters textbooks. A lesser evil for the prevention of a potentially greater one in my opinion.
>>
>>2436827
>>2436834
I get your argument, I really do m8 but it seems this is mainly a perspective issue at this point. (Which would come down to whatever OP rolls. You haven’t persuaded me)

So what that she tried (and failed) to learn Dark magic. Doesn't give the right to have her so brutally murdered. Besides being able to use darker magics (which again wasn’t proven) & basic alignment differences doesn’t mean your irrevocably evil.

Hell even if you want to go as black & white on this issue. Why didn’t we interrogate her before we let J. enjoy his murder boner? That's not the part that even matters. What we saw & what was proven in are fight that her threat risk was extremely low. Again, bringing back the blame to J. she only became a threat at all because of him. (Literally the only provable threat was shown at the last second of her life, after running away, dropping her defenses & pleading for her life to help us no less) It was a greater evil to have the girl murdered, losing potential in the process, then stopping J. & risking the chance of gaining her trust.

> Plus she did try to do some magic on Jackson even if it was in self defense nonetheless.
I don’t see how this supports your side. I said the exact same thing on making my point & still think it’s accurate. (assuming this is just a perspective difference) Defending yourself from being killed doesn’t make you evil (unless you’re in Europe).

> Who knows what could have happened if she lived a little bit longer?
>1.Tells us what she’s knows about everything
>a: Murder here right after this: we get info & Deus_Vault.boner satiated
>b:Capture her: Send her back to town, get a greater reward from the mayor
>c: Have her repent & Joins party:
>2. Could have joins party
>3. Could’ve taughtt us magic
>4. Could’ve gotten skeleton warriors (dun dah dah dun)
>5. Could've gotten brother???

Ok lets move past all the morality, the separate reasonings behind this & look at it through are murder hobo eyes on pure intrinsic value:
>She was the apprentice/prisoner of a bbeg in super-duper evil cellar
>Ergo she has some form knowledge on these topics
>Therefore she has a basic value beyond being a ona hole for J. fists

What J. did was idiotic and cost us valuable information (& maybe another party member i dunno just a thought 2 chew one think about somebody with her abilities wouldve been extrmely valuable to us just some food for thought). I am no longer friends with husbando. Know justice is my new friend.

I dunno man, in the end between this argument is mostly just two different perspectives and your right i can't change yours and well you can't change mine. o3o
I hate to sound like a broken record but from my viewpoint Jackson killing the girl was justified and it was a lesser evil in my pinon what she could have done to us would be greater.
While you may be right, we should have interrogated her, we should have yada yada i'm sure you get the point. But there was skeletons and also Jackson in full deus vult mode. We may need to address this later.
In addition the conflict between both Jackson and the apprentice witch is more than apparent. Having her 'repent' and join the party i'm sure is a option that wouldn't have happened. From jack sons standpoint she was a witch and she was to be murdered for she was corrupting the region. As Jackson describes before (I believe, don't quote me) that witches carry corruption with them. I would prefer if we didn't have a walking earth corrupter with us.
And for the concern of what if she looked into her textbook see this little snippet of a quote. " I know that im ready!" This quote honestly has some meaning that she means to at least master or become proficient in the dark magic to the person that she has apprenticed herself to. IE: She wants to become a full fledged witch and start doing whatever they may do. And slaying a apprentice to a witch before they became one is more than justifiable from what we have seen. Remember Kae literally started this whole 'quest' due to a witch corrupting her forest. Do you want that to happen to someone else or let it get worse? Better to take a life than to suffer the consequences from what could have happened if she was spared. An example below.
In the end she had to die, we must cleanse this place and its inhabitants with CLEANSING FIREEE!! If it helps maybe later we can a real licensed mage to join our party and not some heretical apprentice to a watch.
I stand by my viewpoint that she had to die to prevent further casualties while we should have interrogated her the situation prevented it. She had to die to prevent further consequences. Also here is a song for clearing through my response! :D

>>
>>2437052
I respect your viewpoint to, so I'll avoid repeating myself. Clearly neither of us are going to budge as this is entirely a perspective issue (I'd just be repeating what I said in the last post to prove my side) so OP is probably going to have to roll to see which path we take.

>We may need to address this later.
The time is know. This is are shot show what J. has been doing wrong, if Kae explains this to him know he won't pull this bullshit again when we face a real threat that can kill us. WE SHALL PUT HIM TO HIS CRIMES!

>But there was skeletons and also Jackson in full deus vult mode.
The skeletons were already dead. He took his time and made her death far more brutal then it had any right to be. He’s miss using the holy power of deus vault.Unacceptable.

>that witches carry corruption with them. I would prefer if we didn't have a walking earth corrupter with us.
Oh then your mistaken why would an apprentice have a aoe field of corruption (which would be sick to see in game), that's specifically just the witch due to her unrestricted power usage (I believe explained earlier by J. no less. Not just because she is labeled/acting apprentice,i.e student). So if the apprentice was at the very least integrated into the party (1 of many options I brought up that were available beyond making her head into pudding) she would’ve at the very least begin to learn magic through a more restrictive & safer fashion nullifying this effect. Hell even J. didn’t sense this corruption from her & she’s been living in a cellar/single location for god knows how long (If i'm right about this i'm calling bullshit on his senses he hasn’t noticed the rapey shadow monster). If she had this effect he would’ve noticed/ we would’ve seen it around the hatch & surrounding forest like he described at the river (Which he was wrong about).

What if the apprentice wasn’t inherently evil? What if she was just some girl with neither alignment who just wanted to learn magic? I mean the closest thing to civilization is a downtrodden backwater town so I doubt there would be proper magic users in this area to teach her. She could’ve found the Witch & came to an agreement? Perhaps oblivious to the consequences they would have? Yes we are supposed to hunt the witch due to her affect on the forest. But the apprentice didn’t have the same passive effects as the witch. However remember were doing this for 7 gold coins… Nothing nobler then that.

I'll have to agree with others on this one; you can't change a person's habits and viewpoints in life if he doesn't blindly trust you.
I have dealt with the type of people Jackson resembles and direct confrontation, no matter how convincing, will only make them angry, hate you, and shut their ears on whatever you say.
The only way to make this work is to try and make Jackson come up with that conclusion on his own.

Jackson moves towards the heap with a torch in one hand and his sword in the other, you yourself are holding 4 torches, two in each hand. You feel that there are still questions left to be answered “Jackson, could you tell me more about magic? I don’t really understand what is going on here. Was that woman a witch for sure? What magic did she do? How does one learn magic?” “Maybe these questions can wait for later Kae” “Yes bu...” The torch leaves Jackson's hand and hits the pyre, after Jackson steps back and takes another torch from you before walking out of the room. You look at the ever increasing flame, there were barrels full of strange oil in that pile... You quickly follow behind Jackson “Well the thing is Jack I saw two beds in that room, I think its possible that someone else WAS here, doesn’t one need a mentor to learn a trade? I think there’s a good chance she had a tutor” “I know” “you know?” “I know” he throws another torch into room C then room B. “For a bush person you are quit intelligent Kae” was that a compliment? You’re not sure “but I have involved in this kind of wet work for quit some time, I know what im doing and the less you involve yourself the better” you both stop in front of the last room, smoke has started filling the tunnels. “What does that supposed to mean? I AM involved and I helped you kill the witch I’m as involved as it gets! And another thing...” your hand reaches into your bag to pull out the journal but then you remember you left it in room A. You try to enter the room and retrieve the journal but Jackson grabs you by the collar and pulls you back out “where do you think you’re going? We need to get out of here already” he throws a torch into the last pyre and with an open palm motions for you to go in the direction of the exit. As the two of you move towards the winding set of stairs you open your mouth to talk again [CHA(female):Failure] but Jackson has already started lecturing you “unfortunately you have indeed 'involved' yourself, and 'I' killed the witch her death is on my hand and my hands only” the sound of his voice betrays his frustration, he is getting increasingly angry “why didn’t you simply do as I told you? I TOLD you to stay above ground I told you to stay put, you have no idea as to the position you have put me in” walking up the spiral stair case you attempt to stop and turn around to face Jackson but his hand presses on your back and forces you to keep moving (cont)->

when we return to town don’t tell anyone what you saw here , there was no witch's lair, there were no walking dead, there was no signs of a tutor . Just an old hag throwing lightning bolts and frogs” Reaching the top of the stair case you feel an explosion rock the architecture, it doesn’t phase Jackson but it spooks you. Soon a great black cloud rises from the lair and mingles with the rain, its getting dark now but there is still enough light for travel.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Jackson doesn’t say much else, he seems to be in a REAL foul mood. You give your surroundings one last look. You have grown so much here yet it all lasted only a few hours, as the adrenaline fades your body starts to ache all over. You seem to have accumulated some damage from an unknown source, maybe this was caused by magic? You have no idea. Jackson calls out to you Kae, come you don’t like being talked down too but your strong survival instinct keeps you from talking back, so you obey and follow behind Jackson. [hunter] You cant help but notice he is not heading back towards the town so you start gently adjusting Jackson's path until he is. He would probably be lost without you.

Youre now heading back towards the town, would you like to do something else instead? Would you like to say something when Jackson maybe calms down? (or do you want to poke the bear?)

Quietly fume. Make no disguise of your dissappointment in his treatment of you, but don't say anything. We have been nothing but helpful and despite this he is not treating us like a good partner should.

When did we leave the book behind? I completely understand not retconning something right after you said it but I don't see where you said this (If you did then I'm just blind & salty)

While were heading back to town, is it possible to find any nearby shelter (Kae is a local hunter so she's bound to know some hideouts/caves/land-markers on the way that might provide shelter.)? We should probably mention the part about us getting payed for this btw. This:>>2443743, we have every right to be pist at him. Where ever we take rest J. has some explaining to do.

>this is all perfectly good stuff and burning it all to a crisp would be the true crime here so you decide to pocket the candles. As for the book and journal you give them a quick read before adding them to the pyre

He doesn't look like this much of a husbando material anymore tbhfam.

I'd say, you have to take a position now. This kind of treatment is unacceptable. He should start explaining things instead of leaving us in the dark like that.
But it's hard to do this without holding him in a corner metaphorically. We don't have the upper hand and we need to earn that first to force him to give us some trust and talk.
As for how, I don't know how.
From the ideas that are floating in my head, I think stressing on trust and partnership, how you were of help to him, and trying to guilt trip him could work. But nearly all of our charm rolls with him thus far failed.

I don't understand Jackson a bit, was he feeling guilty that he killed arguably the 'wrong' person? Or is he trying to fool the mayor into thinking that he killed the witch? Is that why he doesn't want us to mention it? Is he hiding a past with the witch's mentor? What's under the mask, Jackson. What's under the mask.

Srew fuming. Go full autism and draw him a picture to cheer him up! Nevermind the rain... That's what the Kae I know would do.
