"Nothing."

You push yourself to your knees and look up at your best friend, both of you still in towels for the most part. Running a hand through her hair she sighs heavily after her revelation. "Doors and windows all still closed and locked, nothing out of place. Just gone, like she appeared."

Running your hand through the thick shag carpet, you smile wryly. "Perfectly dry. No detritus, no ooze, not even ectoplasm. Like she just phased through the floor. If you can call a puddle of ooze 'she'." Kiora has once again suborned a lampshade as a perch, though she's discarded the Exacto blade for a piece of string and a thick sewing needle. She doesn't seem particularly perturbed however, and isn't particularly interested in helping either of you investigate the disappearing thing known as Karen.

"She's some kind of shapeshifter, that's obvious." You glance at Lynne curiously. She starts to say something, and then hesitates. "well, no, it isn't obvious is it? We just know she can turn into a liquid. And slide through solid objects. It explains the locvked doors and such. Maybe she's grey goo."

"Nanomachines?" Lynnette looks started and you frown at her. "I do read you know!"

"Sorry, I just forget you're not just a witch sometimes." Kiora snickers at her softly. "Well, if she's some kind of terminator that doesn't explain passing through the floor."

"If she has control over her structure at the molecular level, or the atomic level, she could treat most anything as permeable. But that really doesn't say anything about what she is. Just what she isn't." rising you pull out some clothes - jeans, a sweater, and a blouse, simple rainbow socks and your sneakers. "I'm going to get dressed. It doesn't change the plans for the day, and I want to get this over with."

Lynne comes up behind you and hugs you around the waist and you blush a little. She's not busty but she's tall enough that you can't help but notice them against your back and head. "Aw, it's not that bad! You need some new stuff sometimes. I promise it'll be fun." You look up at her and frown. "Yes it will! Don't be a spoilsport! I've been looking forward to this day for ages!"

"Glad one of us is. Oh hush!" you tell Kiora who has her hand raised, who is apparently also looking forward to it.

Karen is a very interesting concept, in that it makes sense to talk about her in magitech/sci-fi terms and yet she's self-professed to be a thaumavore. The original version of her was an Atlantean hyperweapon maybe?

[X] Victoria's secret first. May as well get the embarrassing things over with first.

It occurs to you that if you're going to be trying clothing on, you're going to need to wear something less troublesome than pants, and switch them out for a long skirt; Kiora watches with interest as you dress, particularly as you adjust your bra. She always watches with interest, her desire always a warm look and a knowing smile. You can't really get used to it entirely; something about the presence the pixie (or any faerie for that matter) has makes each time unique. You don't bother turning around either - being body shy around faeries is insulting to them, unless you actively and personally don't like them for one reason or another.

"Would you really have sex with Lynne if she actually offered or asked, Ki?" It's a point of curiosity that you've never really investigated, but the kiss on the cheek the other night was something new. Kiora looks up at you and nods slowly. "....how does that work?" That prompts a secretive smile and winks at you. "Well, just remember, she's human, not faerie, so if you do, it'll mean a lot more to her than it might to you, okay."

Kiora nods, and Lynnette leans against your door as you pull on your socks, looking curious. "If she does what?"

Honestly I feel like it might not be hard to guess, in terms of things humans might find more meaningful than the Fae, as opposed to the other way around, and I think we can make sure Lynne doesn't react in a forbidden way, but I'm not sure.

But yeah, with this I guess telling her is contingent on her making sure she wants to know, though I guess I'm a bit afraid we're kind of coloring Lynne's perception a bit since this doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.

[X] Are you sure you want to know? I don't mind telling you, but seriously, you might not want to know.
[X] Has sex with you. I keep warning you about flirting, you know.

You glance up at Lynnette with an ingenuous look. She's dressed in the jeans you decided against and a hot pink windbreaker over a simple bright blue shirt which clashes horribly, and is undoubtedly something she did on purpose. "Are you sure you want to know? It's faerie stuff, after all. Might be more information than you'd like. It's not forbidden knowledge or anything, but they're pretty straightforward about a lot of stuff humans aren't particularly keen on sharing." Kiora looks up at Lynne with a nonplussed expression, perfectly content for you to explain yourself to her. You're not particularly embarrassed by such things, of course, but it's faerie stuff, rather than personal stuff. If it was about you, then yeah, that would be really embarrassing to talk about.

Lynne gives you a slightly suspicious look. "Okay....? Sure, I'd like to know. I asked, didn't I?"

"If she does have sex with you." Lynne gapes at you, jaw dropping, eyes wide, the whole thing. "Oh, she's more than willing. She likes you, and you keep flirting with her. She'll flirt back, but if you aren't careful, she'll say yes to an offer. She won't rape you, but demifey are especially talented at glamour, and you might not want to say no if you push it too far and she decides you mean yes."

"But she's six inches tall!" Lynne sputters, prompting a rather shark-like grin from your familiar.

"Yeah, that's what I said," you murmur softly, and Kiora sticks her tongue out at you. "Just saying, you need to be aware. Of course, she might take offense if you stop flirting with her too, so there's that too." Lynnette looks a little panicked and Kiora flutters over and strokes her hair, petting her softly and looking concerned. the kind of concern you might have for a distressed puppy or kitten, really, but you're not going there. "I usually take the bus to the mall....I don't think you'd like my car, you're awfully tall."

Lynne seems to have calmed a little, and you're pretty sure that's Kiora's doing. "We can take mine. Is Kiora gonna be okay in it?" She's seen Kiora after you've driven somewhere on several occasions.

"We'll have to ride with the windows down, but she should be fine. She'll be able to sit in my lap, which helps too." You take a deep breath and pick up your larger book bag, and tuck your book of shadows back into it. "We should probably hit Bell and Candle too. I'm going to need some more candles after tonight."

"No problem," Lynne murmurs as she watches Kiora settle on your shoulder.

The drive is largely uneventful, though Kiora snuggles close and lets you cup her against your belly with both hands. It seems to help a lot, because she isn't nearly as sick as when she rides with you. Of course, there is less metal in Lynne's newer hybrid than in your VW Bug. The Westfield Center is huge and you're familiar with the place, but you don't shop for clothing there. Lynne obviously does and she heads towards the escalators immediately. "Victoria's first. I want to get this over with. And I'm not buying anything too racy! this is a date, not a seduction!" You follow Lynne while Kiora rides on your shoulder, glaring at a small smattering of fairies - actual fairies, not just faeries - who are fluttering around one of the larger planters and the blooming flowers there. she pointedly ignore her and she makes a disdainful sound.

"You sure it's not the same thing, babe?" she asks pointedly and you hate that your cheeks immediately start to burn. "But no, it should be fine. But you should at least get a teddy."

You know you're going to hate the resulting answer, but you ask anyways. "What's a teddy?" Both Kiora and Lynne look at you in shock. "I mean, what's one look like!"

"Honey, you have got to get out more," Lynne says sadly as you follow her to the brightly lit lingerie store. The attendants smile and greet you politely, ask if you need help, which Lynne refuses, heading towards the racks in the back of the shop, hidden by a wall and conveniently placed pillars. "Teddy," she points out,

[] No, no, no, no. No. No!
[] Uh, why? I mean, it's nice, but it's a little elaborate for a date, especially if he's not going to see it.

[X] Uh, why? I mean, it's nice, but it's a little elaborate for a date, especially if he's not going to see it.
[X] Write in? Maybe if I want someone to see me in one, otherwise....

So, as near as you can tell, 'teddies' are defined by being one piece swimsuits made out of lace, sheer panels, and satin bits that mostly cover the front and leave the sides and back wither bare or mostly bare, with a few exceptions. Lynne is distinctly not pointing you towards the exceptions here. "Well....they're nice - it's nice, but why bother if I'm not going to let him see me in it?" You are working very hard at ignoring the burning sensation that's got your ears, cheeks, and throat flushed. If you get any worse, it's going to make your breasts hot too.

"Because they're the best for a backless dress. no, no, you don't get to protest. If we're here first, you're going to be limiting our choices elsewhere, so I'm going to make sure at least one of the dresses is an evening dress for Cam's party." The look on her face is implacable, and arguing is going to get you exactly nowhere, you're pretty sure.

"It's an exhibition, not a party, and I'm not going to be sipping cocktails and mingling that much." Your irritation is helping fight back the blush, thank God and Goddess. "Maybe if I want to show someone it might be okay, but I just can't see wearing it otherwise!"

"It's Cam, it's a party even if it's not. Art exhibitions aren't low key, especially in this town." You give her a look and she starts blushing. "What? I mean, I've been to one or two...."

"Ah." Kiora glances at you and you look at her seriously. "Lynne's got a crush on Cam," you explain, and Lynne blushes even harder. She does not deny it, though; the bindings on you are inherited with your magic through the ritual, so a lie isn't possible without consequences. Kiora nodes sagely and you suspect that she might be considering something nefarious. Or she may consider Cam a rival? It's impossible to tell.

Lynne, in the mean time, pulls out a more opaque satin number that has ties at the breasts and midriff....you suspect they're panels. "Lose the paneling and I'll think about it," you hint and she looks frustrated. It takes her a moment and she finds a shimmery blue one that is soft and satiny, though the midriff and sides are awfully translucent despite the lace. At least the important bits are opaque. "....Fine...." you acquiesce, earning her forgiveness for teasing her about her crush.
>>
She then guides you to the two pieces, and these are even more compromising to your modesty. Almost everything is lace and translucence, and what isn't is barely there or worse, missing critical pieces. Kiora darts over and points at a set, and Lynne pulls it out, eyeing it critically. Black lace, but not tiny or open. Bandeau top, wide hip lines, but pretty. "....And what would I wear that under?" you ask pointedly. Kiora turns to you, places both hands just above her breasts, and then lowers them to her thighs. Her upper thighs.

"Bustier top, short dress. Full back, presumably," Lynne explains, though you picked up on most of that. "All right." Lynne looks at you with surprise. "I'm trusting you two here," you inform her, "so please don't embarrass me too much with the dresses, okay?"

Lynne grins and hands them to you, and you look down at the pair of very lacy, soft, and very extravagantly priced pieces of lingerie. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" you murmur as you walk towards the dressing booths.

"Probably," replies Lynne as the attendant takes the tags for the two pieces. Regrettably, they both fit nicely, and they feel really good as well, which just makes it all the worse. Lynne informs the cashier that your money isn't any good here, and calmly talks over your protests. "I told you, I'm going to make sure you look good," she claims with finality.

As you leave, new undies in a clean white bag, you happen to catch sight of a quartet of missionaries speaking off to the side. Your shadows react violently, making obscene and very threatening gestures (including some you use for hexes) at them. Lynne doesn't notice and heads towards them, undoubtedly aiming for a store past them, or maybe the escalators. Kiora won't ride an elevator.

[] Gently guide Lynne off to some innocuous store, avoiding any issues that might occur with the Mormons.
[] They shouldn't be a problem unless they notice your shadows; just slip past them calmly and all will be well.

While Mormons do suck the more you look at them, we're here to shop not pick fights.

Also I think it's mildly interesting how much experience Lynne seems to have with lingerie given how she seems to dress more butch when we've seen her, but then again casual and formal isn't the same.

[X] Gently guide Lynne off to some innocuous store, avoiding any issues that might occur with the Mormons.

You glance around and then tug on Lynne's sleeve. "Over there." She looks where you are looking and sees the Orange Julius off to the side. She looks at you - breakfast wasn't that long ago - in confusion.

Kiora points as she sits on your shoulder, and Lynne looks at the Mormons. "Oh. Got a problem with witches, do they?"

"Not really. they're actually pretty fond of dowsers and they don't generally have any issues with white witches or the like, but that's not the problem. It's said that John Smith was a clairvoyant himself, so obviously psychic abilities aren't a problem either." She walks with you towards the Orange Julius shop and you gesture at your feet as the pair of you walk through a sunbeam from the skylights. "They have issues with my shadow. Mom let a couple of missionaries do some housework for us, and they were nice enough until they noticed my shadow. Apparently I'm just fine, but my shadow is possessed by the devil, and thus my soul is in mortal peril."

Your shadows are still seething at the near brush with the odd fundamentalists, whom you really don't have much of an issue with personally, as you explained to Lynne. They're not fond of faeries, of course, because it's difficult to reconcile a monotheist ideal when the God and Goddess of the faeries not only have influence of their own but several of them still live alongside them in the more remote parts of the British Isles.

"Well, yeah, I could see that. It's kind of unnerving." You nod solemnly, though you usually use 'annoying', 'distracting', and 'fucking bothersome'. "But I'll let you buy me an Orange Julius," she graciously allows and you smirk at her.
>>
The whipped orange drinks are delicious, as always, and Kiora happily drinks a few teaspoonfuls of both yours and Lynne's. The missionaries and their ilk have left by the time you're done, and it's off to what apparently is a fairly high end clothing store.

The impression you get when you step inside Saks Fifth Avenue is a little overwhelming. There are only two or three people in the shop, which is fairly large, and there's half a dozen attendants and salespeople. One immediately bee-lines towards you and you control your reaction carefully. Kiora stands up on your shoulder, gently gripping your hair as the pale blue person with the eyes of silver and lapis approaches you. His hair is braided, and reaches the back of his knees, and he's dressed in a very fine three piece suit, complete with matching sapphire blue tie and white dress shirt. He slows as he sees your reaction, and then smiles, walking towards you in a more deliberate manner - politely giving you time to decide how you're going to deal with him. you glance at lynne who is staring at the faerie with some measure of awe.

Of course - she inherits your faerie sight with the rest of your powers. Damn it!

[] Leave, politely and quickly - you're not up to dealing with one of the Aos Sí right now.

Though wait, what does Caitrin know about the dynamic between pixies and Aos Si? I'm having a hard time gauging Kiora's response, apprehension maybe?
>>
>>2411226
Aos si are the rulers of the faerie. Aside from their actual kings and queens, an aos si is undisputedly the most powerful, most dangerous, and largely unassailable nobility of the faerie. The few who used to be (and still may be) gods are still under the control of their rulers, who have the power of life and death over their subjects - to a point. However, these are faerie we're talkign about. The fact that you might rule over one isn't going to necessarily make it obedient, respectful, or subservient in all cases.

[XX] He clearly works here, for whatever reason he has, and the building is likely to reduce his power....just go with it.
[X] Warn Lynne to be very, very careful, and to remember everything you taught her about Kiora.

You lower your head and speak softly, not trying to hide what you are saying, but making him aware that you are telling 'secrets' and therefore shouldn't be considered to be 'rude'. "Lynne, darling, sweetheart, remember what I told you about Kiora. He's likely to be less powerful in here, but that doesn't mean he's not powerful. It's okay to stare, and to compliment, and flirt, and he'll only take the liberties you give him. But he's faerie. Don't thank him, don't suggest he doesn't look exactly how he is supposed to look. That's all natural and if you imply otherwise you'll make him very angry."

She nods slowly, not charmed, just fascinated by his otherness. "Okay."

You lift your head and smile, giving him a curtsy. "And he can probably lift a small car," you add, purposefully including him in the conversation.

Lynne glances at you, then at the sidhe, who bows to each of you in turn - including, surprisingly, Kiora. "Is that true, sir?"

The sidhe smiles, his teeth white and perfectly even. "To be honest, it was a large car, and I only turned it back over onto its tires. Welcome to Sak's Fifth Avenue, ladies. You may call me Evian, and how may I assist you this day?" His voice is rich, mellow, and warm; no magic, it's just how he sounds. The accent is faintly Irish, and the fact that he hasn't actually given you his name is significant.

"I'm Lynette, this is Caitrin." His eyes light up at your name and you smile a little more. "My friend is on a budget, but she's going to an art exhibition this weekend, and needs something nice to wear it it." You blush a little, and glance sidelong at Lynne, concerned by the fact that she specified you were on a budget. "We have a very nice backless teddy in sky blue, and a bandeau pair in black lace." That prompts a blush, which you struggle to ignore. Kiora watches the sidhe warily, but doesn't say or do anything unusual. "I'll be paying, but she's very shy."
>>
You bite your lip, though mouth closed, and Kiora pats your ear. "I'm not used to formal events," you explain, probably needlessly.

"Cam Harper's exhibition? I know a few of our people who will be going there as well. She's considered very highly among our people as well as your own." He turns slightly and gestures. "Please, this way." Lynne takes the lead, surprisingly, and you follow, with 'Evian' falling into step beside you. "I hope you do not mind my asking, but with which eye do you see me?" The smile he gives you is genuine, and the question isn't usual among the faerie.

"The answer that is usually given is 'the one you aren't going to take', I believe," you murmur, and he laughs, a rich, thrilling noise that make Lynne glance back curiously. "It's both; I was born with the sight, and my friend shares my sight through a spell."

"A magician? I am doubly impressed. I think this will be a pleasant day for me," he murmurs, actually sounding pleased.

You hope it ends well for you and Lynne too.

>To Be Continued....
>>
Thank you for Reading and Playing. I will hope to have another session early next week in this thread. Depends on how crazy my weekend becomes.
>>
>>2411265
Who are the sort that see fey via one particular eye?
>>
>>2411268
Thanks for running, I gotta admit I wasn't expecting shopping to be hugely interesting but you really proved me wrong so thank you for that as well.
>>
>>2411274
It's mostly a myth, that some people can see the faeries with one eye and not the other. the folk tales often say the faeries take the eye that revela them. Mooneyed people (heterochromatism sufferers like Caitrin) can also sometimes see the fey with one eye, but Caitrin's is actually a different ability entirely.

>>2411276
If it wasn't going to be interesting I wouldn't have added it.
>>
>>2411285
True, but I guess I was expecting cute stuff and character building moments without the addition of a demigod (or at least someone vaguely analogous to one) working at an upscale department store.

Also are we also getting a dress to go dancing with Karen here, or is this a bit too fancy?
>>
>>2411311
It's entirely possible to get both dresses here, though Cait will flip out when she sees the prices.
>>
>>2411311
Though, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why there is a sidhe working in Sak's.
>>
Would it be possible to just carry a extra bright flashlight around for those times where our shadow gets too feisty? Like a spraybottle for a badly behaved dog.
>>
>>2411485
It doesn't really help because the shadow isn't actually harmed by light, only shifted to different locations. Even at high noon is can shift out of the supposed location is should be at enough to disturb people (and annoy Caitrin).
>>
>>2411487
Aww. It was such a fun mental image though.
I imagine a strobe could still be annoying, maybe.
>>
>>2411489
She tried that once. It was alarming. She was only eight though.
>>
>>2411494
What if there were no place for a shadow at all, light from all directions plus a glowing floor panel?
>>
>>2411555
Then there wouldn't be a shadow - though that would also require her hair being done up tight and skintight or no clothing. Not that is has any detrimental effect on her her shadow - total darkness does the same. Her shadow still has no substance, so even if it truly is there in the dark, it still doesn't seem to do anything to her shadow, which doesn't seem bothered by not existing.

As near as Caitrin can tell, anyways.
