Character info pastebin in progress: http://pastebin.com/iB0tb7rz
Dice odds for best of 3: http://pastebin.com/994WTT3g

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.
Write-ins for all votes are always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as circumstances warrant.

Combat mechanics involve three rolls of 1d100, taking the best, and using the base accuracy and crit ranges of the the PTU system, roughly, but the 'turn order' will be more like the anime, where sometimes you can do a few moves in a row or be hit by a combo of moves yourself, all depending on circumstances. Stronger moves tend to take more time and have more cooldown than weaker moves and also may leave you open to an interrupt, so beware of that timing. Speed is more important for closing ground, intercepting, and other things and doesn't necessarily mean going first.

Pokemon and trainers are unique, and may have certain specializations, skills, or other things that the video-game mechanics might not allow. Some examples: That kung fu Bellsprout in the anime, that crystal Onix, or a Roggenrolla that can fly. Herb's perception skills, pokemon knowledge, context clues in general, and other things will hopefully come into play to avoid completely unfair, unforeseeable bullshit, but expect more bullshit from more advanced trainers.

Call me out on a mistake and receive a suggestive picture, mostly likely a butt.

Pokemon:
Gobble (Munchlax)
Mace (Roggenrola)
Belladonna (Roserade)
Dice (Croconaw)
Sorbet (Vulpix)

Location: Akaneki, at a beach not far from Laki's parent's house.

Recently: You met most of Laki's family, made a good impression, got drunk and included their only daughter in unprotected late night debauchery.

Before I get into it, I want to establish two things:

Bins are actually on the way. We'll have at the very least one tomorrow. Unfortunately I won't be able to run tomorrow, though. But there are bins! Honest!

Second, I want to show off this picture someone made. I cannot thank them enough and I love it. It's perfect!]

You’re at Laki’s parents house, relaxing and taking everything in without worrying about being proper at all times since her parents aren’t home. It’s just you, Laki, her little brother Kai, Abigail, and Gardevoir and the other pokemon.

The islands always have that air of familiarity mixed with something strange and alien. The backyard looks almost like a typical suburban house from back home. There’s a tall fence, which you haven’t seen a lot of recently, a big glass door leading out to the patio, patio furniture complete with an umbrella, a pet out in the yard. Of course, the ‘pet’ is a massive Onix, but when you walk out and visit it, it greets you with an incredibly gentle but excited attitude.

“Hey.” You give it a gentle pat on the head. “Nice to meet you. I’m Herb.”

It gently pushes it’s huge head against your hand, imitating you petting it.

You can feel that, huh?” You ask, smiling. You glance back at the house and still see Laki fawning over her little brother Kai. No sign of Hana or Laki’s parents returning. Gardevoir and Abigail are hanging out in a corner.

There’s a big thud as Onix drops a long in front of you. He excitedly wiggles back and forth and watches you and it, waiting for something to happen.

You could throw that if you put all your effort into it, but should you? There’s not exactly a lot of room back here, especially with Wailord in the yard. In fact it feels really crowded. Still Onix seems adept at getting around fine here. The lawn even looks fine except for Onix’s gravel-filled sleeping corner.

And...awwww, you didn’t notice that tiny pink bow on Onix’s head. How cute!

>Sure! Throw the “stick”
>Put Wailord away first, then throw it
>Better not, but you can craft it another tiny accessory if it wants

“Sorry Onix, I don’t think I should.” You tell the massive pokemon. With Wailord and your bad luck and these fences, you can see exactly how that would go.

It’s head sinks.

“But you look really nice with that bow!” You tell it. “You’re quite the...chiseled fashion model, aren’t you?” You pat him on the head. He looks like he appreciates the attention and doesn’t mind the pun.

You go to your bag and bring it back, settling down on the long he dropped to use as a seat. Onix and Sorbet watch with interest. You take a quick sip of water to help with your slight headache, and set out your sewing kit.

It’s not much, but you could make something small and quick with a few of the sewing hacks you know. You’re not the best sewer in the world, but you have memorized a couple small but valuable tricks the fashion industry uses. It’s all about the seams.

“What sort do you want?” You ask the huge pokemon, trying to give it a scratch. It cocks it’s head in confusion. You guess you can’t exactly have a long discussion with it without Gardevoir, and you’d hate to pull her away or just always ask her to be an interpreter.

That will definitely look good, but there's the risk Lake won't like us dressing his Pokemon. Maybe it's safer to give him the tiny Wailord.

You take off your overshirt, planning on forming it into a large scarf for the huge pokemon. It may be simple, but a well applied scarf can really do a lot for almost any situation. It’s a flexible accessory.

You get to work, trying to remember the basics. It’s a lot harder than you remember, and you have to take a lot more shortcuts and do less of a fancy job that you had hoped. It’s not easy to do outside like this either. There’s no table, just a deck. And you didn’t notice before, but the log he brought you has slobber on it.

Still, once it’s all done, with a tiny little collection of subtle colours and shapes that make an abstract Wailord on the corner like a little brand logo, you feel mostly satisfied.

“Ready, Onix?”

He wiggles.

“Okay, I’m just going to climb up and put this on.” You assure it, cautiously climbing him. Mace and Gobble come over to watch.

You secure it and climb down. It’s not great, but you think it’ll work. It brings out the fun and eager side of Onix you didn’t see until you got to know it.

But what’s more important, is that Onix looks more confident. You can see it as plain as day as Sorbet watches and looks a little in awe, as if she just saw a magic trick. It’s not that big of a change and not your best work, but the reaction is nice anyway.

Onix headbutts you in appreciation, but with the excitement, it lost enough control that you’re knocked over. You laugh and brush yourself off. Mace is startled for a half second, but doesn’t react more than that.

“Goldentop!” Abigail comes over to check out what you’re doing. “Oh man, what’s this?”

“Onix looks pretty great, right?” You say, bringing cheer to the huge pokemon. It playfully mimics the act of rolling over but stops before it actually does so. It’s sort of a funny little fake out, but you get the intent behind it.

“Hilarious! Her parents are going to freak!” She slaps you on the upper arm. “I didn’t know you had it in you. But after last night I guess you proved you were full of surprises, huh?” Her hand sort of awkwardly stops and rests on your arm before she realizes it’s resting there and yanks it away. “You sex pervert.” She adds on, almost bordering on sounding offended. She turns to leave. “I’ll keep Laki distracted in case she decides to come out here before her parents come home.”

Onix doesn’t seem to follow what was said exactly, but picked up enough of it that he looks self-conscious.

The awe in Sorbet’s eyes over your simple application of fashion looks like it lost some lustre. She continues to watch to see how you’ll react.

>Oh man. Maybe they will freak! Quick, take it off!
>Call Abigail out for being so mean!
>Wait for her to leave, and assure Onix she didn’t mean it
>Take Abigail aside and try to explain what she just did

That wasn't nice. Poor Onix
>>
“Am I missing some sort of symbolism here? Onix looks great!” You insist.

“Nope, you got the symbolism dead on! He looks like he’s ready to take on any challenge! Just like some sort of Kontote kid or something with their armbands!” Her laughter starts to die down. “That’s not what you were going for, was it?”

Onix’ posture sinks a little. Sorbet continues to watch closely, trying to understand all the things going on.

“I mean, of course! I see it now!” Abigail says unconvincingly. “Oh It’s a scarf! That’s right! A scarf, which doesn’t mean anything but looks good on him now that I see the...scarfiness.” She squints. “Actually it seems pretty obvious now.” That sounds a little more convincing. “Wow Onix! Now, from this angle, you look great, right Gardevoir?”

Gardevoir looks suddenly both nervous and depressed. It kicks a small stone absentmindedly before noticing everyone looking at her. “I never know what to say. Please don’t look at me.”

Abigail slumps in a similar fashion, but rallies and offers a forced smile. “Really good job, Onix, Herb. I mean I didn’t see it at first but don’t take anything I say seriously, you know? I can shoot my mouth off. Who’s a good Onix? You are! You are!”

Onix seems distracted enough to forget the comment over time. There’s a small period of time you see where it looks like it might try to remove the scarf, but it forgets all about that as Wailord pays him attention again. With Abigail’s help, the two go back to bonding.

Sorbet continues to watch for a little, but gets bored and settles into a resting position near your feet. You have no idea how she viewed that interaction, other than she seemed to be learning from it. Your guess is that she sees Abigail's way of addressing her mistake as what you're just supposed to do.

You relax and see how she handles it. She didn’t really apologize, but she didn’t mean to act like a jerk, either. If Gardevoir’s face was any indication, she felt really bad, but she never let it show. Still, Gardevoir, who picks up on the strongest emotions around, has a distinct lack of energy right now. She doesn’t look terrible, just tired and a bit down.

“Soft Hands!” Laki calls out from the house. She can’t see Onix from there. “They’re coming back soon.” She must mean Hana and her parents. “I think dad wants to take you out somewhere after.”

Good to know!

After what she did for us last night, we should try for a little pep talk now.

Let her know she's been great at all this by drawing attention when needed, playing up everyone's strengths, focusing on the good stories etc.

When it comes time to return these favors, she should know that we'll be there for her. Period.

Abigail has taken your fishing rod out and put a sock on the end of it. She waves it around, mesmerizing Onix and Wailord. Their eyes and heads follow it, but luckily they don’t pounce. Onix is a lot more amazing that Wailord, but still gives it a decent amount of attention.

Time is probably a little short, but you figure you can do a few things as long as you don’t dally too much.

You’re curious about Kai, but first, you feel the overwhelming need to make sure Abigail and Gardevoir are okay.

“Hey.” She says, sweating from the work.

“Hey. I wanted to talk.”

She takes the sock off the fishing line, and tosses it to Conqueror. The bug pokemon gets her meaning and flies around with it above the other two pokemon.

“Look. I’m I insulted your scarf okay? I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night and I spent all day trying to act all nice and mature for Lake and Wahine, who, by the way, weren’t nearly as cool about the idea of you and their daughter before I spent all day talking about how great you are together, and you do NOT want to know how I got the money to buy that outfit, and I-”

“Abigail. It’s okay.”

“I...huh?”

Well, that did hurt a little, but you’re over it. “You’ve been great. Really. I appreciate everything you’ve done.”

“That’s not some weird sarcasm thing, right? Because I totally made fun of your scarf back there and the most fun I get is from teasing your girlfriend. And I sort of plan to give her a really hard time later given the whole brother thing.” She says, like there’s some sort of joke there you’re not quite getting.

Have we ever been sarcastic IC? I honestly can't remember.

It's a little weird that she spends all that time pointing out all the awesome things she's done, then wonders if we're being sarcastic about our thanks and only points out the things she does wrong or that upsets people. She's not allowed to have it both ways! She has to accept our thanks and *like* it, thankyouverymuch!

[For the bin about last night, there’s a lot done on it but I also want to hear any ideas people might have. A drunk Herb, needing to be quiet, and just the whole situation in general has a lot of potential. There’s some shifting perspectives. Luckily, there’s also a lot of room to put stuff in because that. So please don’t be shy.

The way I pictured it was Herb being a bit of a beast. I feel like Herb, without his big apprehension and second guessing of himself, would be a pretty smooth, charming guy. Almost a sexy alter-ego type of thing. Still Herb, but confident and assertive Herb who doesn’t have inhibitions stopping him from doing what he seems to like to do best; pleasing others. So I sort of had it in mind that he’d give Hana and Laki what they’d hinted that they want. I also thought it’d be funnier if those two were too preoccupied with drunk-Herb to listen to Abigail’s concerns about noise and stuff.

I know some concerns about consent came up. That’s my bad. I was going to add in a bit in there about it and just never did because I forgot and it was late and I felt the update was too slow as it was.

Anyway, what I wrote this whole thing for was to make sure that this version of Herb is okay, because it’d be a little bit of a departure. Also to see if anyone had anything specific they wanted included.]
>>
>>2416295
I could see Herb getting a little dominant. Maybe some light choking on Hana at first since she wanted that and he'd be trying to keep it down at first.
>>
>>2416295
I'm down with smooth Herb the barbarian beast! Also please include comments about his barbarian nature. I'm particularly interested in Hana on aura massage and learning if Abigail found it hot between all the hair raising danger of keeping the girls in check.
>>
>>2416295
Hana's already submissive though. I'd rather see Herb dominating Laki and coaxing Hana to get dominant. Though cutting a little loose with Hana'd be nice too, the sensitive sort of roughness.

Also, I think I already explained my reasoning that while we're in control of Herb's actions, Herb is in control of his own actions, since we're Herb.

We can mess with Hana's aura in ways before unleashing her libido. Just getting to see it and read it to her should count.

"You're getting excited. You want this? I can tell, I can see it in your soul you know."

Then we pull her in and whisper our warning, that Gardevoir says she'll be ours forever if we go through with this.

Then she has multiple orgasms, the chain kind you're not supposed to be able to have until your 40's.

Or tantric sex or whatever. I like to imagine Herb would totally clean her aura too while he's "in there" so to speak.

“That doesn’t matter.” You assure her. “You’re still an awesome friend.” Your smile beams.

She puts a hand on her slim, subtle hip. “Again. When you talk normally, you use words that sound like they should be coming from a sarcastic person.” A small, genuine smile creeps onto her face. “But I know you mean it. Thanks.”

“Thank YOU.” You insist. “And I don’t mind being teased. Actually, when I first met Laki and Keira they pulled a prank on me.” You were about to tell the full story but stop yourself there. You forgot how they convinced you to put on a skirt and dance. Best to tell it another time when you’re not on the clock.

“Well, it’s nice to be appreciated.” She relents from her stand-off posture a little. “And I guess if anyone’s work it. It’s you. I mean, worth it to be a good friend too!” She quickly amends that last part on, reaching over to give a pat on the shoulder.

You both sort of awkwardly consider if this is a hugging moment, and decide against it.

“Yeah, so as a good friend, I’m going to respect your personal space more. Because I’ve see what that thing does and if I’m being honest, it’s horrifying. You’re a true degenerate.” Her tone is teasing and light, but she still keeps her lower body well away, only touching your shoulder or upper arm with another pat before taking her arm back.

You blush. You don’t remember much about last night, but you remember enough. “Sorry. And I didn’t mean anything by it. You’re a good friend is all and I-”

“Good!” She says. “Cool. Buddy bro. Glad we’re cool. Right on.”

“Yeah.” Is all you really have to say in response. You glance over to Gardevoir to see if she needs any help, but she looks like she’s in a good mood again. She’s pinching Gobble’s confused cheeks.

Your eyes fall to the house. You can see Laki still doting over Kai, and decide to join them.

“Soft Hands! There you are!” Laki grabs you and sits you on the couch where her brother was. She surprises you by snuggling in with you after. “Kai, tell Sof-...Herb that story.”

He shyly shakes his head. “It’s embarrassing.” Sorbet, who was following you, sits in front of Kai curiously. She usually gives most people wider berth. She does eventually come over to you on her own accord, though.

“You told me. Come on. Soft Hands is nice.” She wraps your arm over her shoulder. Laki’s really cuddly today!

He seems really reserved. You feel like you really understand how he feels though. It’s easier to tell Laki something embarrassing than some guy dating your sister.

“I’ve done embarrassing stuff.” You tell him. “We all have.”

“Not me.” Laki jokes. “I’m perfect.”

Her brother smiles for a second, but his eyes glance over to something in the corner. You look over too and see a letter in a frame. You hadn’t noticed before, but it has the symbol of the athletics games on it.

Laki must have noticed it too, because the mood sinks.

“Well, here’s my story.” You push through, telling him about how you made yourself go overboard. Laki interrupts to insist a few times about things that aren’t your fault and takes blame for some of it. She’s just in such a good mood though that it doesn’t feel weird. And after every time, she cuddles back into you. It feels really nice.

“What happened after you washed up on shore?” He says. He’s been keeping mostly quiet, but after the story he’s speaking up in a full, clearly audible sentence.

“Well, Gobble was there with me and gathered some of my stuff, so that really helped.” You say, pointing to Gobble in the backyard. “We found a cabin with a nice man.” You don’t bore him with the details for no other reason than you don’t want to go off topic. “So what happened to you today?”

He takes a second to work up the story, but finally does so. “Well, I was visiting my friend who just got their first pokemon, and-”

“There he is!” Laki’s parents burst through the door, greeting their son and daughter. There’s a lanky guy with them.

“Yo.” He gives a lazy half wave to you. “Guess you’re the guy, huh?”

He seems really casual. He’s got a loose fitting t-shirt with a stain on it, pants that look like they’ve seen a lot of wash cycles, short but messy hair, small bags under his eyes, and hunched over posture. It’s the bag of tools he’s carrying that really throws you off, though.

Laki is still putting some weight on you on the couch, and she’s made no motion to move.

“Hey.” You nod to confirm the answer to his question, but raise a hand in a way that’s both a greeting and asking for a moment before you give him your full attention. “Kai, you were saying?”

Attention all comes zeroing on the poor kid. But he summons up whatever he needs and after a quick breath and bit of hesitation, he jumps in. “Well, I was visiting my friend who just got their first pokemon.” He repeats. “Charmander! And I got really excited. She was so cool! So I asked a lot of questions about her and she responded to everything I asked and we got along great! But then I asked if she knew Flamethrower and then she used it!”

“Inside?” Wahine gasps.

“Yeah.” He looks down. “But we fixed it! It took all day so that’s why I slept over.”

His dad steps forward “Why didn’t you say so before? I could have fixed that for you in no time.”

“You said that real men fix their mistakes instead of letting someone else handle it.”

His dad pauses for a moment, then slaps Kai on the back hard. “That’s my boy!”

“Honestly Kai.” His mom swats at him jokingly. “You’ve got to tell us these things.”

“Sorry.”

“Don’t apologize, boy!” His dad almost shouts. “You did the right thing. I’m proud of you.”

Kai beams. His parents beam. Laki looks really happy and impressed. The older brother looks... oh that’s not a happy face.

“We’ll talk more about it son.” He says. “But right now I’m taking Herb out to do some work.”

“Work?” You and Laki ask.

“Hana can’t do everything.” He says, making you want to ask more questions. “Grab your best pokemon for a construction site and lets go. Looks like it’s going to rain so it might be a short day.”

“Just one?” You ask.

“Regulations. I hate it too.” He shoots back. “Used to be you could have as many as you want. Then they said it was ‘too hectic’ so you could only have one out at a time. Well, you know how the boys get on breaks. Battles happened too often and people kept using all their pokemon, so now it’s just one per worker. They think we won’t battle if we risk knocking out a worker partner.”

“Does he have to go?” Laki asks, sound a little spoiled.

“You planning on showing me another way you can support two girls?” He asks gruffly.

Oh jeez. It’s sort of a big question about your future, isn’t it?

Mace is a good second. Dice would only be good for a looneytoons-esque bit where he should die like a million times but survives through happenstance.

I figure this is an opportunity to learn more about him. Lake is a fucking moron if he's gonna bring us into an area that's dangerous enough to warrant major concern about safety.
>>
>>2417029
I highly doubt that it is. If it's not a front then Lake is crazy. There's time to bond with our Pokemon but when it's time to impress an SO's parent you want to be as safe as possible. It's a test. Showing you know that it's a test doesn't endear you to this type of person usually. You show that after you passed.

Show that you can play by their rules then show them yours. I feel like I have a solid speech in my back pocket if Lake acts how I'm expecting anyways.
>>
You’d like to convince him that you might be able to make it as a chef. Heck, you’d like to convince yourself. But you feel the need to go along with his idea first, and hope you get a chance to prove your chef-worthiness later. You’re sure it’ll come up. Gut feeling.

You think quickly, reminding yourself that this isn’t about favoritism, it’s about picking the best pokemon for the job. It’s like how you’d choose a pokemon for a battle. Your mind goes over as many variables as you can, and you decide on Gobble. He’s just got that perfect mix of things that makes him a good choice for handling unknowns. And when it comes to construction, pretty much everything is an unknown to you.

“Are you up for it, Gobble?”

Gobble nods seriously. He’s always ready.

You mimic his pose. Your headache is almost gone and just that satisfied, happy feeling is remaining. “We’re ready.”

“No you aren’t.” Lake tells you.

“W-what do you mean?” You’re taken off balance.

“You going to show up dressed like that?”

You look over his clothes compared to yours. Sure, you’re not wearing jeans, but you don’t exactly feel fancy right now either.

“Oh honey, you took Hana there.”

“I took her on a tour to talk.” He says. “That smartmouth Dowei asked her to pass him the jackhammer.”

“And she did!” Laki’s older brother says. “With one hand.”

Kai lights up for a second, then he relaxes. “Nah ah! Not even dad can do that.”

“I can still lift you though.” Lake chuckles, lifting his son. He looks a little old for that sort of thing, but you guess you also never really grow out of being someone’s kid. “But it’s true. So you know the boys. They started coming around to see what the big deal is.”

“And they almost kicked her off the site for being a distraction. So get this: she apologizes, and starts working! She’s been digging and carrying stuff for hours.”

“I told her it wasn’t any work for a lady, but she kept saying how she didn’t mind, she wanted to pitch in, that sort of thing.”

“And he accepted it!” Wahine says, a little critically.

“She’s persistent.” He says in his defense. That part sound like Hana to you, but it doesn’t sound like he’s lying either.

“Hana is at a construction site full of sweaty, strong dudes all alone?” You hadn’t even noticed when Abigail and Gardevoir came back inside.

“I left a chaperone.” Lake says. “Dowei. She’ll be...” He starts to trail off. “Well, come on, we should get moving.”

“I’ll come.” Laki says.

“No. Stay here. Catch up with Kai. We’ll be back later tonight. You can help your mom cook.”

“Or Herb can.” Abigail offers on your behalf.

“That’d be great!” Wahine says. But Gardevoir’s face suddenly changes to a strange look of worry. “But we’ll probably have it ready before you get back. Don’t rush now.” She says, ushering you out the door.

You, Gobble, Lake, and Laki’s older brother head out. You note the single pokeballs at each of their belts.

“I noticed you keep your pokemon out all the time.” Lake says. “They’re not afraid of their pokeballs or anything like that, right?”

“No no. I just like having them out.” You say, looking down at Gobble as he waddles alongside. He smiles up at you.

“Good way to tire them out.”

“Or lose track of them.” The older brother adds in.

“Or lose track of them. What are you going to do when Gobble there evolves, anyway?”

“Walk a lot slower, right dad?” The older brother jokes. Lake doesn’t laugh. He just keeps his eyes on you. He doesn’t look like a bodybuilder, but Lake exudes strength. Short, balding, and with a big belly, he still clearly has a lot of muscle. His eyes even look muscled as they stare into you.

Gobble looks pretty put off by this discussion.

“Seems like you didn’t really think this through, did you?” Lake says. “Letting your pokemon get used to walking with you everywhere.”

Last night he put down one of your pokemon but backed off when you asked him to stop. Today, it feels like he’s putting down you as a trainer instead.

“I have thought about it. And he’ll be fine.” You tell him.

“We have a saying about wishful thinking in the face of facts, Herb.” Lake tells you.

“He’ll be fine because he’s Gobble.” You stop in your tracks to tell him. “He’s never had an issue keeping up, and he won’t when he evolves.”

Lake immediately stops to face you. His eyes meet yours. You don’t flinch, but only because you shut down for a second when confronted with this...confrontation. “Why?”

“Because he never gives up! He’s got more willpower than anyone I’ve ever see. He beat a Snorlax with one punch! So if anyone has doubts about Gobble’s skill or drive should battle him!” You stand firm, somehow.

He grunts, then turns and keeps walking. You have no idea what that grunt meant. Was it a good thing? It didn’t sound particularly dismissive. It wasn’t really particularly happy either. It’s a mercy when he begins to talk again. “Don’t test the one pokemon policy too much. The guys will still accept a fight if you press them. A man’s got to guard his pride”

That’s good, right? That he’d give you that advice? Why does Laki’s older brother look so annoyed?

You arrive on the site quickly after that. Men and pokemon are either standing around doing nothing or scurrying hard to get something done in about equal ratios.

You spot Hana off on the other side. She’s hard at work digging a trench and hasn’t noticed you yet.

“So, where should I go?” You ask, looking over the different sections being worked on.

“Do you know anything about framing?”

You shake your head. “Not really.”

He thinks for a moment. “Well, that’s what I’m doing. If you want, I’ll give you the same treatment I give any new helper. I’ll teach you everything I know right up until you make me repeat myself.”

“I’ll uh, go help Hana out.” The son lets his feet take him where his eyes already are. He throws out a Machoke.

You don’t like the look on his face. You don’t like the looks on any of the faces that keep glancing at her! Most of the people are sticking to their work but there’s this strange sort of circle of frequently turning heads around her.

“So, I’m with you?” You want to make sure.

“If you think you’d do a good job. I won’t take it personally. Carpenter’s blood is rare. There’s nothing wrong with most of the other trades. ‘Cept roofers, of course.” He spits. “Long as your work you’re welcome on site.”

You look around the site. There’s Hana’s section where she’s digging a long trench. She has Glaceon with her of all things. You don’t understand it until you see the icy breeze wash over her and the other workers in the area, cooling them down. But you don’t know how much longer that will be helpful for.

The roofers actually seem like they’re having a good time. You can’t quite see what they’re doing, but it looks like a nice easy pace while they chat.

There are some electrical workers gathered around some papers trying to figure something out. A Magneton is nearby, putting power into an electrical cord, looking like it’s running low on energy.

There are people laying concrete. Huge, powerful pokemon help mix and pour it while small, light pokemon smooth it over.

There’s some like demolition going on. Looks like there’s a section of wall that has to come out. Probably more to do too, by how it looks.

it's the principle, this is the island of men not spineless cucks; and Hana takes me as the type that would get off on us being overprotective. Course she also get off on virtually everything else so maybe that doesn't mean much.

I agree. I think I'm just not communicating clearly. This is ultimately a gesture on our part.

It’s a tough choice, but you decide to follow Lake and help him with his framing.

“Good idea.” He tells you. “Not everyone is as good a teacher as me.” He says, leaving a bag of tools for you to carry.

Oof. That’s heavy! You follow by as closely as you can.

“Put it down there.” He instructs. You let it down gently to avoid breaking anything. You wouldn’t want someone tossing your cooking gear around.

Ah. You miss Keira. You hope she’s okay. You wonder if your frying pan has been any help.

“Herb. Toss me a Robertson.”

You rummage through the bag of tools. Robertson...Robertson... that sounds so familiar. It’s a type of screwdriver, right?

“It’s the one with the square head.” He sighs.

“Right! Here you go!” You pass it over. But as you pass it you realize you’re holding the handle instead of passing it so he’d grab the handle, so you try to flip it around in your hand, but he grabs at it at the same time so it looks like you just pulled it away last second to mess with him.

He gives you an annoyed, but restrained look. “You’ve never done a single handy thing in your life, have you?”

“Not really.” You admit.

“So what did your dad teach you, then?”

Abigail isn't proud of that one but it's an easy way to make quick money on this island and she thought it was really important to help out. She assumed Herb would get just steamrolled by Laki's parents and that her street-rat clothes would reflect badly on him and make it that much harder.

Seeing Herb kill it despite showing up late and looking like he took a shower with a sandblaster and an extra girlfriend was nice, but she also felt a little useless after. You know, stuff like cleaning house and how to read and swim is probably in there too. As well as some yard work/gardening, maybe.

But for all the technical skills we may or may not pick up from our fathers, I think the most important thing we get is a sense of moral fibre, a strength of character. Though, I doubt Herb’s in the frame of mind to think of it that way right now when he’s feeling the need to be handy.

You’re going to have to be a little more specific?
>>
I’m not sure how much longer I can keep my eyes open but I’ll try to vote on the next update.
>>
“He taught me about women, mostly.” You say. Most of what dad taught you went in one ear and out the other because so little of it made sense at the time. Women couldn’t possibly be that complicated or mean so little of what they say. Or be so governed just by their emotions, or want to push your buttons once in awhile just to test you, or-

“Explains a lot.” He says. “But I’ve seen boys try that sort of thing with my Laki before. At least, until my reputation got around.” He hammers a nail in really hard. “What else did he teach you, this, ‘homemaker’ father of yours?”

“Oh, well, all sorts of stuff. He played a lot of music. I was never that good but I think some of what he taught me stuck. I know a lot about rock and roll from around the time he was a teenager. Umm, well, he taught me how to cook before my grandpa really took me under his wing for that.”

“Under his wing?”

“Oh. Sorry. Mainlander expression. It means-” You stop as he waves you on to continue. He either picked it up through context or doesn’t care. “Anyway dad taught me a lot of other stuff. How to do laundry, keep things on a budget, sew a button on, sew band patches onto jackets, keeping the fridge stocked, how to look after my brother when he was born, umm, he and mom always made an effort to read to me, and when they were getting more busy I’d end up reading for my little brother. Umm, they taught me how to swim.”

“You can swim?” He asks, incredulously.

You wonder why he’d ask that question, and in such a skeptical way. But as you think back, it occurs to you that the people raised on the islands have all been impressive swimmers. “Well, I’m decent for a mainlander.” You say, hoping that’s a fair assessment of your skills.

“So like a brick.” He says, half a smile cracking on the side of his mouth holding a nail. “Hold that piece up. Right there! Perfect!” He leans back.

The two of you work at it for awhile. He’s still gruff and he throws a lot of banter your way, but try your best and approach it all with a positive attitude, and find yourself learning a little. At least, you’re feeling less useless over time.

Then, out of nowhere, he hits you with this. “I’ve yet to raise a man.”

“What do you mean?” The frankness of the statement catches you by surprise. You glance over your shoulder to see if his older son heard. Gobble looks equally as confused, but continues to hold the wooden beam he was instructed to.

“I think you have some idea. My oldest is a lot of things, but I can’t call him a man. At least, not yet. Too many mistakes. Bad mistakes.” He says. “And Laki. She’s spent more time on worksites like this as a small child than he ever did as an adult.”

That doesn’t sound very safe, but you don’t think this is the time to comment.

“I raised her to be strong, upright, fierce. People say I raised her to be man, but that’s not true. I wanted her to be stronger. I wanted her to be strong for when the man she ended up wouldn’t be. Then I saw how much that scared them off. Do you have any idea how rare it is for an Akakeni girl to be single at her age? People started to talk. I don’t care if they did, but I want you to understand the situation. I worried. I saw her go to the games and I saw her there and I saw her every day afterwards, and I thought to myself that I watched the girl I raised die after taking those tumbles because there was only a lifeless, bitter corpse on my couch. I haven’t seen her this happy since she made tryouts.” He hammers another nail in, hard. “And my youngest, Kai, he’s a good lad. He knows right and wrong, he knows how to fix things, he does well in school, but I worry. I know he’s been bullied and hasn’t told me.”

“Oh. I’m sorry to hear that.” You have no idea what to say to him now. You were expecting a lot of things, but not this.

“So tell me Herb. How does a boy like Kai become a man?”

Gobble looks up too, listening intently.

[Thanks everyone! That's it for tonight. As a reminder we will not be running tomorrow, but it's very likely we'll have a Tuesday or Wednesday night thread.

The binlist, in no particular order:
-Herb/Laki/Hana at Laki’s parents house featuring Abigail
-Rule 63 part 2
-The adventures of young Mace (it’s just the one but it’s related to Gardevoir)
-Hana and Laki BJ competition mini-lewdbin
-Various POV or short stories about the current events including:
Valerie
Polu
Herb’s sister
Keira

If I've left anything out, let me know!]

Also, look to Hana and Laki. Tell him how you push yourself to be better for then, and how they've grown as well. (This is an excuse to keep an eye on our lady)

Thanks for running, Gobble. I like this island of manly men!

thanks for running gobble

I however dislike this island of manly men but am deferring complaint for the sake of people who do like it. Still Gobbles storytelling is great I just don't like this setting; solid 8/10.

Just a thought pertaining to worry seed coffee, why not just shred or mince it really fine and put just the tiniest amount into the coffee grounds before you percolate the coffee.

I always put a little bit of salt in the coffee grounds when I make coffee to take some of the intense bitterness away.

>Having responsibilities he needs to rise to
>Being bullied doesn’t make you less of a man

A man is an ideal we all constantly strive towards, the best version of ourselves who knows who he is and can deal with any challenge life throws at him, while changing the world around him into a better place through his actions.
There are many ways to go about this, and nobody will ever completely get there.
Kai is still young and hasn't faced hardship. Being bullied doesn't make him unmanly, it's one of the first challenges he's facing and it's how he overcomes it that will determine his manhood. He will make mistakes and struggle and will grow into a man you will be proud of, not in spite of hardship, but because of it. As his father it's your responsibility to use your own experience to be there for him for guidance and security. Growing up is scary, confusing and hard.

You've not failed to raise any men. Men don't exist. Everybody is a boy trying to become a man.
Besides you did a great job with laki, she's the manliest person we know (fumble awquardly)

I feel like Herb would have some wisdom from Grandpa and his dad he could apply here. I can't think of any off the top of my head though.

Weird idea I had. Would the daughter of Robin and Clair have technopathic powers?

I tried to think of a daughter for all three combinations of the harem, but I got stuck there.

Why not? We're already harem mode and streetrat misty is cute
>>
>>2419193
We're a committed man! Two girlfriends is more than plenty!
>>
>>2419193
I agree that she is a cute, but unless all three of the relationship want this to happen then it will not happen, and I don't think Herb would be the one to bring it up. I also believe that Herb already struggles with both his girlfriends, not sure he's ready for more.
>>
>>2419258
It would be interesting if when we ask what she wants for helping us out she asks for some Herb lovin.
>>
>>2419331
That would be a hard no, since Herb can't make those decisions on his own. Even if I do find Urchin misty a cute.
>>
>>2419342
Well I imagine she would ask in front of the girls if not for the sole reason of making Laki mad.

H-holy shit

I bet Abigail wouldn't mind getting a chance to berate these barbarians and their filthy practices in the future. Why, she might even have to get hands on to show them how to do it properly.
>>
>>2419823
"Maybe I do" should be "Maybe I am" to fit the format of the question asked.

I'd like to see Herb remember all this so that he can see how fun this whole "confidence/assertiveness" thing is.

Something about Lake’s question here: it sort of assumes Kai isn’t a man. I’d say that if he’s really got right and wrong down like Lake says he does, he’s already a man. Everything after that is just practice to be good at it.
>>
Also, I wonder if the aura thing Herb did right at the start was to steal some of Laki’s confidence and Hana’s libido? They’ve got plenty to spare after all.
>>
>>2419823
Herb is a fucking animal. My opinion of him just did a complete 180. God bless.
>>
>>2421951
[I hope that's a good thing!]
>>
>>2421951
Herb’s about to lay Hana facedown like a playing card. What a beast.

What would a person with a bug/fighting aura be like? I want to get a better look at people’s auras! Especially Herb’s! And I think that Herb learning to manipulate his own aura and more meditation tricks will be super cool (like learning how to use dragon dance himself without dancing. Like, dragon trance)
>>
Say Gobble, what are the six types that don't have temples? I'm guessing it's Rock, Ground, Steel (not a lot of mining in an archipelago), Flying (Not a lot of mono-flying types, really it's just Tornadus), Bug (They're chronically underloved), and Fairy (Fairies tend to have a lot of overlap with psychics and normal types).

Also, stand off should be standoffish.

>>
>>2425979
It's been pretty much confirmed that when he has a dress on he's the cutest.
>>
>>2426406
That was fun, I hope we’re in need of a disguise again sometime. Plus, Lake and Hana can get some playtime in next time.
>>
>>2426462
Laki. Autocorrect.

Frankly Gobble, it’s a little annoying to have a new character whose name is the autocorrect of a main character’s name.
>>
>>2426467
Ehh I don't think particular disguise will come around again. Some anons didn't take herb in a dress all too well.
>>
>>2427137
I guess. It’s easy to forget sometimes that other people aren’t degenerate in the same ways as me.
>>
>>2427153
It's okay anon I think it's a great fetish and so does Hana.
>>
>>2426462
No.
>>
>>2427153
Well, here's the thing. I like traps and all, but the idea of Herb being a trap is sort of extremely counter to the "trying to become a man" shit we have going on.

If we were just a trap from the start I'd be cool with that, but since we weren't we gotta use that sparingly. I like the idea of using it undercover for certain funny scenes a la Final Fantasy 7, but actually using regularly for sex isn't on the docket for me.

If you outvote me I won't care though, I am degenerate enough that it doesn't bother me, I just care more about Herb becoming a man then I care about crossdressing.
>>
>>2427783
You see it proves he's comfortable enough in his manhood to dress in a dress
>>
>>2428688
I’d argue it’s more about treating his women to something, but I’m probably gonna have to settle for naked apron.
>>
>>2428688
Sounds like the same tier as the Greek argument for why being gay is more straight then fucking women.
>>
>>2427783
Are you me?
>>2428688
This is ridiculous. Dressing like a woman and being clearly uncomfortable about it isn't manly. It isn't manly to be comfortable either.
>>2429034
I thought the argument was that fellatio is less gay than cunnilingus because with the former you're beneath a man but with the latter you're beneath a woman.
>>
>>2427783
Why not just have a non canon bin? There was that bad end type bestiality one last quest that a few people asked for, so maybe a trap bin for the few of us who are in to that now? My brain is full of positively degenerate ideas for one if anyone cares.
>>
I could see Hana requesting Herb to do it in the future but I don't it'll ever come up again except for disguises.

I'd -love- for Herb to be comfortable enough with himself to enjoy some crossdressing but I doubt it'll happen, it's just not how the votes have swung over the course of the quest.
>>
>>2431149
The only issue I have with it is that it is counter to Herbs entire personality. Hes Suuuuper forthright and a trap by definition is not. If we are talking simple transvestitism that then also runs counter to Herbs Fashion aspect. I know there has been this push to unsex or ungender clothing, but the reason that clothing is made along sex lines is because they are designed to accentuate the aspects of the human body which is sexualy dimorphic.

For these two reasons alone and with Unchained Herb being very much a barbarian making him a transvestite is just kink pandering and it would be annoying as fuck.

>>2430466
please no. The alt world bins were still Gobbles excellent writing but they just weren't as enjoyable as the canon bins.
>>
>>2431350
Crazy idea here, but you don't have to read it if you don't like the premise. That's why it's not canon.
>>

So Herb is going to revive the Normal temple and become a guru who has many wives, right? Because that's what I hope we do.

Normal temple on that tiny mainlander Pokemon island where we have Keira take care of the temple stuff, heal people and pokemon, cook for our tiny cafe with a mysterious and powerful coffee, and impregnating every female friend with magical dick power

Maybe Herb will encounter Mew? It'll further distinguish the two quests while also tying them together more; Mewtwo was the final boss of the kinda dark quest one, so the more light-hearted quest two will end with Mew. Mew only appears before the pure of heart anyway, and that's Herb's whole thing.

Plus, as the ancestor of all Pokemon, Mew's progeny has taken over the entire planet. And it can impregnate anything with the same Transform power as Ditto (not ingame obviously, but it totally should).
