After spending an uncomfortable night on Rachel's sofa, you two try to come up with good way to play the poor hand you've been dealt.

I'm not ready for this...let's do it!

You spent most of the night shuffling around trying to get into a good sleeping position. Thankfully the morning comes, and with it the smell of a fresh batch of coffee. Without thinking too much you get up and walk to the kitchen where you find the scarred woman eating toasted bread. I don't remember the last time I was up before you. She smiles. Do you want a slice of toast? I don't have any butter left but I found some Pam. It's almost the same, right? Oh - coffee? While she gives you your coffee mug, the apartment's door open. Anna enters leaving outside the two Section-2 Agent escorting her.

[Anna]
...Morning Rae. Ugh - I so need a shower, my hair stinks of LCL. She appears exhausted. Have you filled and sent your C32 form yet like I told you to? You're going to miss the renewal deadline if you keep "forgetting to do it". She walks toward Rachel, both hug for a moment.

[Rachel]
Give me a break, mom. You've only been here for, like - 30 seconds.

Anna softly laughs. I like it when you call me mom. It's funny. Florence and Laurie will come today to help out with all my late homework. The small Eva pilot removes her shoes and drop the duffel bag she was carrying next to a coat hanger. Her eyes widen as she finally notice you. M-Marie? Since when are you out of the medical ward? Y-you're okay? She suddenly becomes uncomfortable. You guess she still hasn't sorted everything that happened with Eileen during the 4th angel battle. Rachel quickly responds for you.

[Rachel]
Yeah, she's spending the weekend here before they reassign her another guardian.

[Anna]
I see... I'm glad you're better, Marie. Don't worry about the Major, I'm certain they'll find him soon. I just know it.

[Rachel]
Oh right - take this. She gives Anna a credit card. I'll be out today so you'll have to order food for your friend and creepy albino girl. Make sure to order enough so we have left-overs.

[Anna]
S-she's not creepy!

[Rachel]
Yeah, yeah. Can't hear you over your horrible LCL smell. Go take that shower, for our sake. You notice Anna getting ready to argue, but quickly abandoning the idea. Before heading to the bathroom, she turns toward you.

[Anna]
Be careful with that mug, Marie. It's the one the Major always use when he comes over. He'll want it when he comes back. You and Rachel both look at each other. It seems like she instinctively gave you this specific mug, out of habit. You nod - and with that she close the door. You soon hear the sound of water rushing out of the shower head.

[Rachel]
So! What's the plan for today, Marie? If you still want to, I'll call Ji Eun later - see if she can get your hard-drive and the riot shield from your apartment. Why do you want it back, exactly?
>>
>>2418241
The Hard-driver has something i will need to use in the computer to delay the end of the world and the riot shield to obviously defend myself from everyone that will tey to shoot me while i walk toward Magi. -drink coffee- Hmmm...that's a very good coffee~

I know what the hard-drive is for, you told me all about it yesterday.

What I'm talking about is that riot shield you've kept around for a while. I mean, I understand why you of all people would need one - what I don't get is that every time I go to your place it's right there on the couch. Or next to your bed.

>>2418255
I... I don't know if involving Anna is a good idea. She has gone trough so much already, maybe we should keep her out of the loop until you get your body back? What do you think?

Anyway - There's no way in hell they'll let me come near the Science Division Ward. Not after our intrusion. Maybe you could get in? I mean, since Marie's body is smaller, you could still sneak in while I make a diversion in the lobby. I'll be honest, that scouting plan you've got isn't sitting right with me. It's like jumping head first into a hornet nest. She looks genuinely worried At least take my gun, or the Taser I bought for Anna.

Diversion is good, we should also contact trustworthy team leaders, Sword, Chariot and the like.

I know you don't like the idea of Anna helping, but this is quite actually the end of the world we're talking about here. Hopefully we won't need her to do anything dangerous. Well more dangerous than normal.

The riot-shield contains the Death Star plans, help me Rachel, you're my only hope.

>>2418694
>Diversion is good, we should also contact trustworthy team leaders, Sword, Chariot and the like.
Well, you know Ted better than I, so I'm going to trust you on this. But Claire? Really? After she bombed David and Eileen? After she disobeyed and launched Albino Girl too early? I really, really don't think we'll find an ally in her, Major.

>I know you don't like the idea of Anna helping, but this is quite actually the end of the world we're talking about here. Hopefully we won't need her to do anything dangerous. Well more dangerous than normal.
Alright, alright, I get it. But let me be the one the tell her tonight. I know the girl, she'll react better if I'm alone with her.

We... we'll find the best way to deal with all of this, Major. For our girls' sake. We have to- they're our responsibility now.

>The riot-shield contains the Death Star plans, help me Rachel, you're my only hope.
You know, when you said dorky stuff like this back in your own body it was kinda cute. Coming from Eileen it's mostly awkward.

Wait here. You see hear go into Anna's room, and after a minute or so comes back holding two objects she place on the table, in front of you. One is her Beretta 81, the other is a pink taser with a leash. I'm not letting you go inside there unarmed, Major. I'm serious. Take one of these. Give me five minutes to dress up and we'll go to the Science Division Ward.

>Take the pistol.
>Take the taser.

I assume she'll have whatever we don't pick

We can *hypothetically* explain this away if they search us. A loaded gun not so much. Also who knows if being in a new body has messed with our reflexes and control, we may want to test that with a few punches or something.
>>
>>2418740

Our small teenage grill wrists won't handle a sidearm the way we're used to. Taser is also less suspicious and potentially more useful if we're going to be trying to do some sneaking around.

You take the pink taser. It's a lot lighter than your usual pistol, but you figure you'll get away more easily with this than the Beretta. While the color makes it inoffensive looking, you know these are no toys. It will bring down a man in seconds.

Soon after, Rachel comes back dressed and holding her shoulder holster. She still wears the same grey shirt she slept in, but at least she put on a pair of jean shorts.

[Rachel]
The taser, eh? You sure it's going to be enough? She puts the holster on and pick the pistol from the table I'll take the other one. You know what they say: "Contient de petites pièces de plastique, tenir hors de la portée des enfants."

She leads you outside her apartment and to her car. You only know notice how badly she parked it last night - the front bumper is touching a van and the back end is sticking at least two feet inside the road. After reaching a Geofront entryway, Rachel begins to talk.

[Rachel]
How do you think we should approach this? We're still early, I'm sure there won't be many science guys in the lobby yet. If we're lucky we'll only see the two guards and a receptionist.

Should I come in screaming about a phony emergency? I'm sure the guards won't hesitate to run outside, but you'd still have to deal with the receptionist. I could also try my womanly charms on them. You exchange an unsure glance. I know! It didn't work last time we were there, but you never know. Maybe one of them will bite. She seems a bit frustrated. You're the idea guy anyway, If you have a better plan now's the time to share it.

Well, I can see you're as out of ideas as I am. I'll improvise when we get there, don't worry. Just make sure you slip in unnoticed.

Once you're past the lobby I won't be able to help, though. You'll be on your own. If you get caught or can't find the Magi Unit Central Core this will all be for nothing. And Dr. Assface will probably increase security too, so it'll get harder to get there once it counts.

She stop and take your hand. You stare at each other's eyes for a moment, silent. I should've kissed you before leaving the car. You know, for luck. But now I can't go and kiss underage girls in public, can I? Look, I just-

Rachel poorly estimated the amount of people that would be in the lobby. As you enter the big hall, you see more than twenty people in lab coats walking in the same direction. This might prove to be a boon however, as Rachel immediately darts toward the front desk where two guards are authenticating the ID cards. She promptly walk past the people in line and leans on the counter of the guard station.

[Rachel]
Hey guys~ I'm here on behalf of Maurice, from HR. You know there's been talk about--

[Guard 1]
I'm sorry Ma'am, you'll have to wait after we've authenticated everyone. Please step aside.

[Guard 2]
Wait, aren't you the CAG? We've been told immediately call--

[Rachel]
Hey, you're Jordan right? It'll only take a minute, trust me. As I was saying, this year's team-building week end has been cancelled, however[...].

There is no way around it, Rachel truly knows how to keep someone's eyes on her. As she keeps talking over the guards, the scientist line behind her begins to grow in size until some decide to walk past the hard-pressed guards. Apparently, Nerv-Montréal's Science crews are neither patient nor understanding.

The sudden commotion gives you the opportunity to slip into the crowd unnoticed. Before long you are past the the guard station and right next to a flight of stairs heading down. You subtly look back to ascertain how Rachel is doing, only to see one of the guards escorting her out of the lobby. The whole plan rests on yourself from now on. You hope they will let Rachel go without mentioning this to the Commander.

It seems no one here in the science ward values a healthy lifestyle; A dozen flight of stairs and you have not seen one scientist. The contrast is stark with the overcrowded lobby you have just left.

As your breathing gets quicker you realize how out of shape Marie really is. Your pace was not even that swift and already you feel the camisole under your hoodie stick to your back due to sweat. Still, you prefer not spend a moment too much here, so you continue the descent into the science ward lower levels without slowing down. Eventually you notice a door labelled "MAGI Access Floor", which you promptly open. The corridors behind are as empty as the staircase you have just exited, but a pungent odour of LCL immediately assault your sense of smell. It was not this bad the last time you were here, it is as if rot and decay replaced the usual ferrous scent.

You head for the auxiliary MAGI access you took back then. Even if that sequence of events is cloudy inside your mind, you have got a good understanding of where to go. The science ward is maze-like in it's crisscrossing corridors lined with electrical wiring and various other gas tubes and valves. Moments before open a set of doors you hear several footsteps coming your way. Their pace sounds relaxed however, so they couldn't be after you. Still, you quickly enter the closest room, leaving the door slightly opened so you can catch their conversation."

[Scientist 1]
I know, man. They're working us to the bone. When was the last time you had a day off?

[Scientist 2]
I don't even remember. You know what, I don't wanna think about it either. It depresses me.

[Scientist 3]
What depresses me is working on that damned MAGI unit. Ever since Dr. Hughes had the 6th team scoop out the girl inside I haven't slept all that well.

[Scientist 2]
Yeah, I heard they didn't took it too well either. You should talk to HR, see if you can get a leave. At least for a few days. Maybe it would set you straight.

[Scientist 3]
HR? You know we don't really have an Human Resources Department, right? It's all a front to make us feel listened to, I swear.

[Scientist 1]
There you go again. What next, the Second Impact was an inside job? Ahaha!

Two of them laughs as they get too far away for you to hear what they are saying. You relax a bit and slowly stand up, trying to ascertain what room you got in so hastily. Rows and rows of computer server racks occupy this otherwise empty room. One lone desktop is placed on a desk at the centre of it all. As you get closer, you notice a cup filled with coffee next to the monitor. It seems the man posted here is gone, for now. Maybe you could try to get some information out of this station before he comes back. Then again, it would be a risky move and you still have to get to the MAGI central core.

After a second of doubt, you head for the keyboard. The monitor lights up after hitting a key, revealing the complex interface. You sigh. Even if it is advantageous for you, you can't believe the scientist did not bother locking down his workstation before heading off.

You spend a minute trying to work out what all those numbers and files mean. From what you can gather, this server farm is running simulated synchronization tests on some kind of imprint. You do see Anna's pilot number come up a lot, and more recently Marie's one. The strange thing is that those numbers are versioned. Anna's latest iteration is numbered 3.43.003, while yours is below zero.

You see the door's handle turning, and immediately duck under the desk. It seems like the scientist is back from his break. You can try to crawl away before he gets to his workstation, there's a chance he won't notice you. Or you still have Anna's taser, for a more drastic approach.

At the first opportunity you get, you begin to crawl away from under the desk. You stealthy try to reach the closest server rack without catching the attention of the science division employee. As you succeed in positioning yourself behind the rack, you hear the man's footstep come to a halt.

[Scientist]
Is someone there?

Your heart skips a beat. Immediately you head for the door, taking the long way around the rows of servers. The man then places some files on his desk and begins to search around the room.

[Scientist]
Simon, is that you? Come on, man. This isn't funny.

You slowly turn the handle, trying to make as little noise a possible. Thankfully, Marie's lithe body makes it easy to slip through the half-opened door. Without closing it, you start to run as soon as you are in the corridor. Hopefully the scientist did not see you, but he certainly did hear something. Not before long you find yourself in a winding maintenance tunnel. Being this far from the server room, you decide to catch you breath. Your heart is racing like mad, but you're glad you didn't have to knock the guy out with your taser. As you ponder whether he did see you or not, the familiar blare of the Geofront alarm system goes out.

Attention. All military personnel are to report to their chief officer immediately. I repeat. All military personnel are to report to their chief officer immediately. This is not a drill. Attention[...]

This is neither an angel attack, nor an intruder alert. This is something else. As much as you hate not being able to help, this might prove to be a boon. You decide to head deeper into the bowels of the science division ward. It doesn't take long before you reach the familiar auxiliary MAGI access hatch you took all those months ago, when you first encountered Ophelia 12 and the tip of the iceberg of what constitute the MAGI supercomputer. The small keypad is still there, on the wall. 2011. Inputting the same code as you did last time, a green light activates and a good portion of the floor opens up. You hear a lot of voices down there, some laughing. Soon, the air becomes tainted with the rotten LCL smell. The object of your mission lays down there, but somehow you are stricken with doubt and fear. Something is wrong.

The whole MAGI floor is dimly lit, basking in the yellow-reddish tones of the LCL tanks sporadically lining the walls. As you head closer to the MAGI central core, you begin to hear those voices get louder and louder. Some idle chatter about stocks, vacations, family echoing through the corridors.

You easily sneak past everyone, taking advantage of the minimal lightning, until you reach a catwalk overlooking the tank where Ophelia 12 was suspended in. It is empty now, the pale clone body was replaced by a thick unremarkable tube. You then notice the several groups of people down here. Mostly men and women in suits and dresses, as if they were attending some kind of business dinner. Farther up the catwalk is a control station, manned by a guard. There is also a stair cage that opens on the main floor, where everybody is alongside the MAGI core.
