Welcome to the Maho region! A vibrant and incredibly diverse region filled to the brim with new Pokemon and new adventures! As a young man who's never been on his own Pokemon journey before, it's about high time you go out and see the world!

Can we pop in to the local pokemart, maybe nab a couple of pokeballs? Surely we've got at least a bit of pocket change on us. After that,
>I want to see POWERFUL Pokemon, time to go straight into the woods.
>I should check out my Cubcoal and properly get acquainted as his trainer.
Shall we take Cubcoal out of his pokeball, and have him walk with us on a hike? Bonding experience and pokemon hunting excursion all in one. Plus it'll probably be good to have Cubcoal immediately on call if we run into a wild pokemon.
>>
>>2421408
Also, that shirt, my god, it's perfect.
>>
>>2421498
Check the pastebin we have 5 pokeballs and 3000 Pokedollars (Based mom & dad) which I think is enough for a little bit. But I can totally agree on the whole letting out Cubcoal thing (HGSS ftw)
>>
>>2421522
Ah, did we? My apologies then. Skip straight to the nature hike then, I guess. Oh yeah, didn't Professor Aspen say during the last thread that there might be some people around Claribar Town that might be willing to accompany us on our glorious, region spanning adventure? Will probably want to check that out later, maybe after the hike.
>>
>>2421480
that's why it would be fun

Swatting berries off a bush and eating it off the floor is a bit different from grasping a tail. One generally needs a thumb, while the other doesnt.

And throwing is a fairly complex manuever for a creature that could just set things on fire and call it a day.

>>
>>2422350
>>2422358

"Scratch" and "Tackle" are basic, actions that consist of sentences explaining what to do are not. We should hold off on more complex commands until we get a chance to actually train with Cubcoal. Not just grind on wild Pokemon, but train, and practice maneuvers together without enemies around.
>>
>>2422345
Scratch till death!
>>
>>2422394
As you can see in the pic Cubcoal's hand follows anime logic and can still hold things despite it logically not being able to. It's shouldn't be able to hold the berry like that with it's stubs so it should be able to grip things especially with 2 hands. I also don't see how throwing is a complex maneuver even though babies do it all the time but breathing fire, dodging attacks (especially when there's sand in your eyes), and understanding and reacting to english(?) in the heat of battle isn't

>>2422431
Anon it's 1 sentence I can understand if it was like 3 sentences long but it clearly isn't and the content isn't amazingly complex compared to other things Cubcoal has done with no visible strain. I would like to mix up battle because I think the whole "use tackle until it dies" thing is boring and the reason I have to take breaks from the games so I don't get bored and now that we have the ability to choose exacly what we do I want to spice things up a little. And as for training Cubcoal I defiantly agree I hate grinding and always would rather the training they do in the anime

We really can't know until we try, let's not worry so much about failure, it's about learning together we our pokemon. If we lose a battle it's not the end of the world.
>>
>>2422686
This anon put it amazingly. How can you ignore such a beautiful statement anons? How?
>>
>>2422686
Yeah, but lets get a backup pokemon before trying complex maneuvers. Im not keen on getting mugged by a wild rat thing.
>>
>>2422686
Yeah, but how do we know it's not gonna attack US once it kicks Cubcoals ass? I don't want to be chased out of the woods by this region's gods damned vermin pokemon, that's a terrible way to start an adventure.
>>
>>2422724
>>2422719
Cubcoal hasn't taken any damage. Trying to do something that'll make it unable to attack isn't gonna one-shot Cubcoal idk why you think scratch makes it less likely to deal damage to us
>>
>>2422749
Yeah, but I don't think we've got any potions or the like on us, so the less damage Cubcoal takes the better. There's a decent chance we're gonna run into more Pokemon on this hike, better to end this as efficiently as possible and keep Cuboal in peak condition.
>>
>>2422345
>Grab it by the tail and smack it against a tree
this is stupid but if it works it'll be funny
>>
>>2422825
Man this is like the 3rd time I'm telling someone this but look at the pastebin. We have 2 potions and 2 oran berries plus we're in a forest so we can assume there's more berries around if we somehow get injured enough

>>2422847
I don't think it's to ridiculous but I do agree it would be funny
>>
>>2422825
Well we already decided to take the risky path, and we picked the feisty pokemon, it seems to be out of character to start playing it really safe now.
>>2422724
I mean, If it does, it's a small bird, we grab Cubcoal, shield it with our body and run for safety, we aren't deep in the woods and we don't seem to be in the dangerous part of the region. I think we can handle a bit of a bruised ego, we're already 8-10 years late starting our journey.
>>
>>2423139
>it seems to be out of character to start playing it really safe now.
imo this is the wrong approach to quest characterization.
The choices made in the quest define the character, you're not limited to only the choices that fit the character traits already established.

For example in the situation mentioned, that wouldn't be out of character, it would change our character from "confident, hotheaded go-getter" to "guy who tries to be confident and wild but lacks the confidence and ends up bitching out".
Real people aren't always totally secure in their decision making, it's okay to flip flop in character.

I can agree to this approach of doing a quest but what I think what that anon was trying to get across was is that we aren't in a position where running is the only reasonable option as we are not in danger yet. If we were in danger then the confident coward would be a logical option but we aren't. Let me put it like this
>Goes into dangerous forest
>Starts battle with pokemon instantly >Damages enemy without taking any damage
>Runs away
This doesn't make any sense with the established character cause there's nothing challenging the characters regular environment so any change would come off as bipolar

In cases like this where it's a pretty low-level Pokemon who's definitely fainted, I won't require rolls for catching it. But once it gets into the higher levels and the Pokemon might still be conscious I'll ask for rolls!

I just think, not only because the option seemed fun, but for the sake of making decisions with some manner of consistency, we shouldn't just decide to start making risk calculations when we haven't done so before and have no reason to start

Now that we've impressed on Cubcoal that it's not always the case of who has the bigger stick, we need to put our money where our mouth is and start working on battle tactics. Also he looks liable to work himself up into a snit if we just leave him alone.

Also us sticking around a bit gives Fevine more time to catch up to us *bricked*

3. Rock - Right when we're about to lose Fevine comes to the rescue

Also haven't you heard Nibdew is the best starter and soon to be strongest party member
>>

Thirding.

But checking with them now is more than just because we miss Fevine! It also gives them firsthand data on how easy it is to train Cubcoals / how amenable they are to following instructions they're not keen on/ the general tempement of Cubcoal when he's not in BURN EVERYTHING battle mode. Plus we have experienced trainers on hand to tell us what to do if we screw up training and provoke cubcoal into starting a forest fire or something

[Training is gonna be more open-ended than battling! You can choose if you want to focus on powering up moves, work on battle tactics, work on raising some stats (Speed training, Strength training, etc.) I'd like for move training to be more like the anime like how they'd combine moves to form one giant move, or a Pokemon could ride on another Pokemon's back for larger reach! It's very much a work in progress/abstract thing so sorry if it's confusing for anyone!]

Doesn't look like Cubcoal can do sustained fire breathing yet, so how about checking out just how well he knows his physical stuff. Is he strong enough for wrestling moves, or is he more of a speed guy who can lunge 2 steps forward just before a good Ember?
>>
Since
>Let's work on battle tactics!
Seems to be the winning vote, we should probably devise some, you know, tactics. The obvious one would seem to be basic evasive maneuvers, since plenty of pokemon have ranged attacks. We should probably beat (Figuratively) the concept of zig-zagging on the approach when he's going for a scratch or another melee attack into him, to minimize risk of getting hit on his way in. Otherwise, not to sure. Teach him how to perform a German Suplex (This one is a joke (Maybe))? Or see if he can put out rapid fire embers, would be good for harassment
>>
>>2423797
long term, I'm wondering if he can do a low power, long duration ember. Something not intended to hurt(much), but to cover the eyes is very bright light and keep them blind.
>>
>>2423797
A tactic that always works is a good old ember in the face to blind the opponent then wail at them with scratch, pin them down, or suplex them

We need a reliable way of dealing with flying opponents so I suggest working on aiming with rocks to make a little improv stone edge

In it's dex entry it said it learns skills from other pokemon at a young age so we should get him to show us some
>>
>>2423815
Might be a bit sketchy. That sort of modification would sound more like creating a new move, which probably wouldn't work out, because Pokemon can only have four moves for some reason. Then again, I could be wrong.
>>
>>2423817
I used to have a cat that would wait outside in the driveway until a bird swooped at it, then it would leap up, grab the bird in mid air, and backflip-suplex it into the ground.

This was just how it hunted. Every day.
>>
>>2423821
Pretty sure the anime tosses that logic and supports using moves in creative ways.
Glacier seems to like how the anime does things so it wouldn't surprise me if he's on board with that.

I liked Fevine originally, but when the time came, I gained a greater appreciation for Cubcoal. It got to the point where I couldn't decide. So I didn't. I figured abstaining would be like a half-vote for each one.

Part of what made my decision was that I felt Cubcoal would be a better foil for our trainer. I mean, he's 20 and he's just now going on his adventure, so he's a late bloomer. He's probably timid on the inside. So, he's got the most in common with Fevine, whereas Cubcoal is his conceptual opposite and can balance him out; be the yin to his yang.

I like Fevine better and would have picked him if it were my journey for sure. But our nameless trainer is different.

Also I seriously don't think Fevine's gonna join us later.

We'll see his corpse from when he tried to join us but got attacked on the way. Or maybe if we're lucky, our rival will be Silver and he'll get chosen/stolen by an asshole and resent us for not choosing him and leaving him with a cruel trainer.

...Okay I actually regret not picking Fevine now. Also I made myself super sad.

They don't look shifty, they look lazy and aloof. Jesus Christ, they've got the same eyes as the Professor. And really, them catching that Pokemon we beat is pretty altruistic, in a way. I mean, it's opportunistic for them, sure, they get a Pokemon with no effort required, but they're also taking care of the otherwise defenseless and vulnerable creature that would otherwise get scooped up by predators. It's not like she was lurking in the bushes, waiting for us to beat a Pokemon and stealing the catch out from under us. She saw an unconscious firerat, and said "Oh sweet free firerat. C'mere lil' guy, I've gotcha, you're good now." Pretty reasonable thing, here. You're blowing what little we know of her out of proportion.

The majority of the anons here clearly think she looks shifty and she doesn't look like the the Prof. at all their faces are completely different. Besides the Prof. looks and acts like a kind old man and she looks like a druggie (imo). I agree what should did was reasonable but it's also reasonable to not tell some random shifty chick you met alone in the forest the name and location of the person who gave you a rare pokemon

>>2425592
It's the principle of just blabbing to a random stranger that the lab is giving out free rare pokemon. For all we know she could mention it to others and then the lab might be swamped with trainers wanting one for themselves too -way to endear us to them. That was when the pokedex was registered to the professor still. So it could read the starters because they were of the same owner.
>>
>>2426110
My headcanon has always been that you need to connect the Pokeball that contains a Pokemon directly to the Pokedex to get info on it which is why you have to catch things to get the full info on them.
Under that premise the Professor probably just told us to connect the balls to the dex, or better yet since it was his dex he had already done so.
>>
>>2426252
I always hated how you could only get info if you catch a mon. I perfer the whole scan thing from the anime more

With the level of info you get from scanning, one wonders how the pokedex doesn't already have all the info. It's like the professors already did the research and gatelocked the pokedex rather than the dex actually learning anything from scans.

Are you lost? Have a cracker.
Are you hurt? Have a cracker.
Are you bored? Have a cracker.
Are you a legendary pokemon? Have a cracker.

Speaking of which we really need to give Cubcoal a proper name, it is integral to the bonding process.
>>
>>2427624
Maybe something simple like sulfur or brimstone. Seems suitable for him given he's from a poisonous region and is a fire type plus it comes out of the ground which is a nice link for his potential secondary typing.
>>
>>2427627
>>2427648
No nicknames makes you a basic bitch. Or an actual 9 nine year old.

Ideally, we should wait until we get a little more of Cobcoal's personality beyond

"Probably Tsun" and "Willing to fight God"
>>
>>2427683
A little too on the nose. Less of a name, and more just a word related to the species. Maybe Brenton, or just Brent, if we're just basing it off its species. It means "dweller by the burnt lands."

>>2427691
I agree with that, yeah. It's just something to keep in mind.

>>
>>2427767

>>
>>2427635
Nicknames are only cool when they aren't meme names, and have actual thought put behind them.
>>
>>2427762
>>2427767
>>2427818
Yeah see, names that just show "this is a fire type," are lame. Sulfur, Ignis, those aren't *names,* they're rudimentary exercises in word association. It's like calling an electric type Sparky. It's childish and uncreative. I'm not saying we name him Jake or Brent or whatever but we can do better than fucking Blaze.
>>
>>2427837
True but it's Pokemon. Most nicknames are going to be either lazy word association or puns. The only other option aside from those you see is when it's just random letters thrown together to make a funny sounding name like Throngus.
>>
>>2427837
I'm fine with Sulfer cause it's not a commonly used name for a fire type (as opposed to blaze which literally every kid names their fire types) and it just fits Cubcoal (In the fact that he's from a poisonous area and that he looks like a Sulfer kinda guy imo). I would perfer if we just call him Cubcoal because it's a fitting and nice sounding name and I don't like nicknaming for the sake of nicknaming but if we had to name him something I'd rather it be something that isn't generic like Ignis or lame like Brent

Let's call him Berserker because he's gonna be the strongest in the world.
>>
>>2427878
Yeah, personally I'd prefer he have a name, but I can get the desire to not force it needlessly. Waiting till we know more about his personality and then deciding a name might be the better choice. Out of the options thus far Sulfur's the only one which seems like a decent fit, that or maybe something based around a volcano given his explosive personality and unpredictable nature.
>>
>>2427837

How about doubling down on the fact it's a badger cub and call it something like Broch or Dachs?
>>
>>2427940
"Dachs" just means "badger" in German, so fuck off, and Broch is... some sort of ancient Irish stone building?

Honestly I think the clear route is to join whatever local villain team is in this area, that or make our own. If there are multiple options we choose whichever has the coolest outfit.
>>
>>2428022
With how many teams are running around in Pokemon it feels like there's more criminals than people.

I'd back it though as long as the teams are either interesting or not blatantly mustache twirling evil doers.

>I don't know yet. I think I'll just go with the flow for now.

Playing the villian could be fun and wouldn't be too crazy a leap what with us going into the forest and beating shit up for experience but it's a slight stretch and I doubt other anons would go for it. A reasonable middle ground would be something like Kazuma from Konosuba where we're kind of a scumbag and do stuff like fight children and take their money or something
>>
>>2428031
Blatant mustache twirling I can handle, I'm more worried about ham-fisted philosophy.
And clearly most local economies are reliant on their team of choice, they are the single biggest employers, they need to pay for custom designed flashy uniforms, and they even keep the local trash pokemon population from expanding out of control. When you think about it they are the unsung heroes.
>>
>>2427974
>>I don't know yet. I think I'll just go with the flow for now.

What I meant by blatantly evil is those teams actively working towards the end of the world. This usually includes hamhanded philosophy.

The idea of a considerable percentage of Pokémon being Totem-esque in size and power is both terrifying and awesome.

Come to think of it, I've heard sometimes the anime had examples of Pokémon much, much bigger than normal (like that fuck-off Tentacruel), so it wouldn't be unusual for this story to follow suit.
>>
>>2428816
>Yell at the other Chiwip for kicking him out.

>>2429020
I can see something on the scale of totems but not something as ridiculous as the Tentacruel thing. The anime can be pretty retarded at times like the Tentacruel thing or that one Ghastly episode where he fused Blastoise and Venusaur

I think the games and some other non-anime derivative works take a median approach between "needs to be trained to understand basic orders" and "capable of complex thought".
>>
>>2428816
>>Kneel down and offer to help Chiwip.
>>
>>2429250
But in the games you can use pokemon right after they hatch and they take orders just fine.
>>
>Do both
>>
>>2429279
In gens 2 and 3 freshly hatched Pokemon were also higher level than the things you'd find on the first route of each game.
You have to make some allowances for game mechanics imo.
>>
>>2429412
Yeah I agree with that pokemon wouldn't be fun if everything made sense I was just pointing out that your statement about pokemon having to train to understand basic orders make no sense in the games at least because they all follow orders perfectly as soon as you get them (granted you have enough badges)
>>
>>2429423
I was saying that it takes a middle ground between those two stances.
They're assumed to be intelligent enough to understand basic speech and orders but not intelligent enough to think on the same level as a primate.

The anime makes them as smart or smarter than humans though.
>>
>>2429279

This is true even in Mystery Dungeon. One of the ways to get new party members is by having other pokemon dump their unborn children on you as a reward.

>>

Where would we find a pokemon that perfect? How could we ensure that it was loyal to a fault and cuddly?
>>
>>2429540
Electric isn't weak to rock, it's only 2x and grass doesn't resist it so that doesn't help us survive a rock throw.
>>
>>2429544
ok 2x, but that still means we are just increasing the amount of rock weakness we have, which is far less productive. Also, yes, yes not having a 2x weakness helps us survive a rock throw. And killing a rock type with a 2x STAB grass move also helps us survive a rock through.
>>
>>2429540
It only has a x2 weakness to Rock and Ice, it's weakness to Electric is negated due the Electric typing, and it's weakness to Ground is negated due to the Flying type. Type-wise, it's good defensively. Stat-wise, that's to be seen.

I certainly hope so, it is too early to tell whether this is going to be the happy sort of pokemon adventure where nothing overly bad ever happens, or the sort where there can be real consequences. Either could be a lot of fun, but until we have a solid feel for the tone I'd rather not risk poor Fevine. The fact that people keep warning us about Maho being wild and untamed, dangerous, and deserving of fear certainly make a darker tone possible even if it isn't full on gritty realism.

If a 8th grade giant bullies a 3rd grade kid and you tell the 3rd grade kid to stand up for himself and he gets his ass beat you don't punish the 3rd grader for being a bitch you punish the 8th grader for being an asshole
>>
>>2430690
>8th grade bully
>3rd grade bitch
>You encouraged the twig to make themselves a mouthy target
>Proceed to be upset when the most obvious possible result immediately plays out, because one's a 3rd grade bitch and the other's an 8th grade bully.
Putting aside the fact they're probably around the same level anyway and it's more a matter of temperament, did anyone expect a DIFFERENT result? Does anyone actually think this is going to improve relationships when Cubcoal sits there internalizing that you're just going to tell things to stand up to it, then scold it when it bickers with them?

Recall Cubcoal's dex entry mentioned it learns how to fight when it's a kid by following its pack around and roughhousing/bickering back and forth. What are ya'll trying to accomplish here by telling it that it's natural development habits aren't "nice" enough?
>>
>>2430697
What else would we tell the 3rd grader? "oh just let him steal your lunch money everyday and starve bitch". That won't help anything it'll just let the bully know that bullying the kid is an easy and effective way of making money. So you tell the kid to try and make it seem less easy. Then once he beats up the bully and shows that he'll refuse to back down an authority figure (We're the authority figure in this situation) punishes the 8th grader. Of course we're gonna get upset. Do you expect us to be like "Well that was probably gonna happen so it's ok". That's like saying the government should not get upset about people getting stabbed because it's obvious that will happen eventually you give everyone access to knives .
>>
>>2430747
>Of course we're gonna get upset.
>Do you expect us to be like "Well that was probably gonna happen so it's ok".
You are literally encouraging a kid to get into a fight with a bigger kid, then being a full grown adult picking a fight with a kid because the fight you were the catalyst for starting didn't go the way you wanted. Encouraging them to stand up for themselves is both fine and correct, but you know exactly what's gonna happen. And that's ignoring that these are two entirely different species and you failed to address the fact that this is natural, normal and healthy for Cubcoal.

>That's like saying the government should not get upset about people getting stabbed because it's obvious that will happen eventually you give everyone access to knives .
Somehow I don't recall any government encouraging anyone to stand up to people with knives and/or guns, because it's really obvious that'll go down in a very predictable manner. The advice in those situations has been to keep your head down and escape, and whatever you do, DON'T provoke them. Yes, go find an authority figure, but don't pick a fight and THEN go running to one, that's stupid.
>>
>>2430697
>What are ya'll trying to accomplish here by telling it that it's natural development habits aren't "nice" enough?
Chiwip aside we're kind of doing that already by telling him he needs to listen to us more. His natural habitat is literally toxic so he needs that upbringing to survuve but right now he can and needs to mellow down since his environment is different, he'll never stop being hotheaded but we need him to at least learn to play nice with us and others since we might face tag team battles down the line and we don't want the rest of our pokemon to be on edge around him.
>>
>>2430772
There's a nature vs nurture debate in here, and you're right that the environment isn't as harsh. On the other hand, that doesn't change its nature any, and we should be providing it an outlet for that energy and inherent aggression rather than just lecturing it and going "You need to be nicer". You can't just whole-heartedly ignore one side of the equation, and that's exactly what's happening here.
>>
>>2430697
I don't think you know what roughhousing is, or bickering. Look up a video of wolf cubs playing and then you might get it. Anyway, Cubs doing neither of those, he's just being a bit of a shit.
>>
>>2430796
This is more condescending than contributive to the conversation in any manner, but I'm not going to keep arguing the point. It's clear that I'm the minority here, so carry on. I doubt how we handle it will make any difference in the long run, anyway.
>>
>>2430789
>we should be providing it an outlet for that energy and inherent aggression rather than just lecturing it and going "You need to be nicer"
That's what battles are for, it helps out team in literally no way if he takes it out on our other pokemon.
>>
>>2430811
I apologise, I definitely could have worded that better. Still, you get what I mean. This behaviour feel less animalistic and more like human personality stuff. Even most of the similes used to describe it have been human in nature, not animal.
>>
>>2430771
We never told the 3rd grader to get into a fight. We told him to tell the 8th grader he won't give him his lunch money anymore. Once he assaults the child with physical force we punish him for not abiding by the laws. And just cause we know this is a likely scenario doesn't make it any less bad (much like in my gun example). You could also argue that it's only natural for a big kid to try and make easy money off of a weak but that doesn't make it anymore justified because he's ignoring rules that society or social space needs to function properly.

And as for the gun thing It was solely addressing the argument that because it's likely to happen that means it's ok and you shouldn't be punished for it

>>Yeah I'm a bit nervous, but I think my Pokemon will keep me safe!

you lot are acting like these are kids in a playground when you should be acting like these are our little brothers/ kids desu, they're not going anywhere after they stop fighting, they're with us now. Playground rules don't apply with siblings.
>>
>>2430908
I was only using the example because he mentioned playground rules first and I know that it isn't the same exact thing as a playground. But I wouldn't compare their relationship to that of siblings they just met and are not really used to the fact that they'll be together for a while now. It's more like the older kid from a foster home bullying the new shy kid

And I didn't like BLUE (That's the only acceptable name) as much as Silver. He's up there on my rivals list but he was just kind of there to battle the player, lose, talk about how badass he is, and leave. He didn't feel like a character to me more of a force of nature unlike Silver who felt like an actual character. Don't get me wrong the simplicity of BLUE is nice but Silver left more of an impression on me

>>2434150
Paul was based. When I watched the anime as a kid and we first saw him catch 3 Starly's and pick the best one I knew that fucker doesn't play games. I also liked how best ash on a consistent basis so he could back his ideologies and ways of doing things up with hard facts. Him and Alain were the best anime rivals but I prefer Paul because he was the anime equivalent to Silver

Having an edgy rival would be hilarious tbqh. Pokemon protagonists never take advantage of it, mostly because they’re all mute or nice kids like Ash, but we are going to wage psychological WARFARE against this kid if he picks a fight with us. We even have the age advantage. It’s going to be even funnier if he picked Fevine.

[apologies for very few updates this weekend. been working on a lot of things! thank you for being patient with me!]

Don't worry about it man. We all have lives off the internet. R-right?
>>

It's fine no rush. When do you expect the next update to be out because if it's gonna be in like 2 hours I'll just go to bed now
>>
>>2436832
Yeah, it's no problem. Just wondering, is the next update going to be soonish? Will stick around a while longer if so, if not gonna get some shuteye.

Update should be up in 15-20!

Damn shame.

By the way, are you planning on compiling the updates as a chapter somewhere (after we get to that point)

I have all the pics compiled in a folder so I could upload it as a zip...? Not sure what the most effective way to do that would be. Any suggestions?

Public so you can find it on google.

Chiwip seems the obvious choice. Spark should be effective, and I don't think Electric is weak to Poison or Flying.

It has type advantage being weak to neither of the opponent's types and having the electric advantage over flying.
I'm nervous sending it out without getting a chance to talk or train with it first though. We didn't even get to see it in battle when we caught it, we have absolutely no idea what it can do.
>>
>>2437008
True, but we may as well break it in now. No time like the heat of battle to test it's mettle. Besides, should be able to pull through with the edge in type.
>>
>>2437008
We could always give it the pre-battle prep talk about how he should give it his all and believe himself and no matter what She's our bro.

And then cue edgy comments about how friendship is worthless from the rival
>>

I doubt this guy's gonna provide us with the time to give a pep talk. We'll just cheer it on as we fight.

Attack Chiwip while we've got him distracted hyping him up? He seems rude enough to do that.
>>
>>2437060
Fair point but I think he's more likely to just talk shit about how friendship is for normies like the edgelord he is or whatever but even if he doesn't I think at least trying to prep talk Chiwip is better than just telling him to go and fight and having her choak mid-battle.

Chiwip can't do it on his own, Cubcoal needs to soften him up(or win).
>>
>>2437121
Cubcoal seema like our ace wouldn't it make more sense to have Chiwip soften them up. Like something along the lines of taking out Scramprey and then using thunderwave so that Cubcoal can sweep if anything happens to Chiwip
>>
This was an incredibly stupid fight.
>>
>>2437138
Agreed. We should be out catching more pokemon. Don't get into a trainer fight until you have 3 mons!
>>
>>2437145
Well we could've had three but we chose not to. Nothing we can do now considering we're already fighting this guy.
>>
>>2437145
A lot of the 1st gym leaders have 2 Pokemon so I don't think it's too ridiculous. I meam I doubt he's gonna have 3 mons let alone have all 3 be strong. And if you're really worried we could probably give them both a berry to give us a little bit of an edge

This is 4chan. These people play pokemon.

Aren't we already poisoned? So Poison quills won't give us a second Poison effect...

Hrm, well, bad rolls are bad rolls, I guess. Nothing to be done. Hopefully Cubcoal can bring it back.
>>
>>2437358
>>2437351
Switching out of poison is stupid. The scamprey will get a chance to poison both our pokemon, and we lose type advantage. We do what damage we can and hope for better rolls, no reason to give a free attack.

Also, we haven't used physical attacks. We just failed to dodge because of dice.
>>
Also, what is with people saying this is a bad idea. This is a pokemon quest, you battle people in pokemon, sometimes you lose, and that's okay. It's not like we jumped into a hole filled with angry sevipers who are filling us with venom as we speak.

>>
>>2437570
Chiwip got hurt because our recklessness altho it was mostly super shitty luck we need to heal her as soon as we can and treat her to something nice when all this is over.
>>
>>2437577
Actually, can’t we just apply a potion right now? Or is that just a game thing?
>>
>>2437351
Of course we're surprised by this outcome it's happening because of bad rolls not any kind of strategy. If we sent out Cubcoal and he got bad rolls the same shit would happen to him

>>2437567
Yeah I honestly don't know why these people are taking a loss so seriously. We're a new trainer fighting a more experienced trainer we're not gonna be forced to commit seppuku out of shame people!

>>2437341
>>2437345
>>2437554
>>2437361
Guys it's paralyzed it's speed is HALVED the DC for dodging is gonna be waaaay lower so even if it doesn't hit Chiwip probably won't take the FULL brunt of it and faint even with a 40

>>2437328
Also can we give Chiwip like a potion or a berry
>>
>>2437599
Applying a potion is only delaying the inevitable with poison still in effect. I'm just hoping we were smart enough to put an oran berry on each of our pokemon as we got a couple in our starting kit.

In any case we need to try to end this quick by just zapping scamprey a few times. It's slowed down enough that we are guaranteed to attack first (unless chiwips are incredibly slow and scamprey are fragile speedsters). Not to mention the chance of it losing its attack entirely, and the penalties to its own ability to dodge effectively.

At this level it shouldn't take more than a pair of STAB super-effective electric attacks to knock them out, and it's not like we can be double poisoned.
>>
>>2437623
How is a potion only delaying the inevitable it gives us more chances to do super effective stab attacks. If he was BADLY poisoned by toxic and the damged stacked every I could understand but it's just a little bit from our hp each turn if we're careful about it Chiwip could pull through
>>
>>2437567
That's a good point, but at the same time, we shouldn't necessarily put our Pokemon in a situation they almost definitely can't win. That just causes them unnecessary harm. We shouldn't be afraid to challenge people, but discretion is the better part of valor. I'm okay with losing. I am. It's part of becoming a trainer. Let's just not bite off more than we can chew.

>>2437610
>Guys it's paralyzed it's speed is HALVED the DC for dodging is gonna be waaaay lower

You don't know that that's how it'll work. It might. But maybe speed isn't accuracy in this, quite. It's not fair to say.

>>2437623
>I'm just hoping we were smart enough to put an oran berry on each of our pokemon as we got a couple in our starting kit.

We didn't decide to do that, so no our Pokemon wouldn't have any berries equipped. Something to do after this fight, definitely.
>>
>>2437744
>That's a good point, but at the same time, we shouldn't necessarily put our Pokemon in a situation they almost definitely can't win. That just causes them unnecessary harm. Can you tell me any reason why you assume they can't win? The only reason this is happening to Chiwip is because of low rolls which we couldn't have predicted. We have type advantage it's not like this was an uphill battle from the start
>You don't know that that's how it'll work. It might. But maybe speed isn't accuracy in this, quite. It's not fair to say.

It's only reasonable to assume so this is like the anime where the chance you'll hit is more than just a number. A crippled child's attack will be easier to dodge than a perfectly normal child's attack and therefore the DC should be lower the same thing applies here a paralyzed Pokemon attack should be much easier to dodge

>>
>>2437753
Should, perhaps. But not necessarily. The GM hasn't said how things work, definitively. The DC MIGHT be lowered. We don't know. It's an assumption. That's all I'm saying.

I'm assuming this guy is a lot stronger than us. That's just the impression I'm giving off. I feel like he might have a badge or two, especially with that "baby's first Pokemon" comment. At the very least, it seems safe to say he's more experienced than we are.

>>2437905

>pokemon gets hurt in a pokemon battle

>>2437905

>>
Side question for QM, are there penalties to "dodge then x," like, is there ever a reason not to dodge?
>>
>>2437905
pots good.

Anyway. I am pissed because this was not a strategic failure. Or a luck based failure.

This was a failure as a CARETAKER. Something which is kind of important in the pokemon universe. Especially when working with you and untrained pokemon.
>>
>>2438016
Dodging attacks is standard procedure in any kind of fight.
We could probably swing ourselves a bonus if we thought we were cool enough to take an attack head on to ensure we hit back though basically imitating No Guard to a lesser degree
>>
>>2438004
I think it's a safe assumption to make

I doubt he's that much stronger than us. Experienced sure but I don't this battle is gonna super one-sided that just won't be fun and I trust Glacier wouldn't do that and I especially doubt he has 2 badges maybe 1 but I doubt that considering we're not even in Honeydrop yet.

>>2438012
We have 2 potions and 2 oran berries (Check the pastebin). We also have 3000 Pokedollars and are on our way to the pokemart so I think we're in the clear
>>
[They never used potions in the anime so I'm tempted to say no just so we're not in the middle of an intense battle and we end up having 10 Hyper Potions so you guys never die. What do you guys think? I think there should be a moderated amount if so!]
>>
>>2438333
Brock did actually use a Potion at least once that I can remember but it was out of combat.
>>
>>2438346
[Oh! Sorry yeah I meant in-battle.]
>>
>>2438333
I don't think potions should be able to be used but I'm okay with the revives but it skips a turn you could also just use potions as a held items and id be ok with that
>>
>>2438348
I was pointing out that "out of battle only" appears to be the anime canon.

If you want an alternate take, Pokemon Tabletop United (PTU) has battle recovery items take your Pokemon's turn if you're not trained in using them and has "refreshments" for out of battle healing items.
PTU also lets trainers use weapons and fight personally if your GM has a setting that allows that though.

Personally I'm a fan of potions being out of battle only as it makes sense that there would be a product that could be used to help people get between centers but using them in battle seems awkward unless you have 2+ Pokemon out at once and are swapping them around while you heal others.
>>
>>2438333
>>2438333
I think Potions should be reserved for post-battle use. Rests should replace Revives, and healing items like Potions should act to speed up the process. In the anime, it seems like a lot of damage is just kind of slept off, over time. Healing items are for serious injuries.
>>
Yo, how did Chiwips evolve as a mostly urban pokemon if the region has only recently been colonized? Did they just live as a parasite off of other electric pokemon before humans came to the island?
>>
>>2438333
Can we at least throw them a berry as a compromise? But if you do allow choose to allow potions I'm completely fine with a limit so we have to plan out the best times to use them. It'll add a little more strategy to battle and make things more interesting
>>
>>2438450
It's Pokemon dude they only bring up real evolution when it's convenient for them like Alolan Exeggutor. It makes no sense for a Pokemon to evolve to look like an ice cream cone
>>
>>2438333
Maybe allow them only after defeating a pokemon instead of switching a pokemon. They're spray bottles so they don't take long to use, and that brief period should allow it.
>>
>>2438484
A berry would make more sense. Otherwise, yeah, I'd think potions would make more sense if used after the enemy Pokemon has fainted, or if the enemy is switching out, so that we can't just keep healing our Pokemon in the midst of battle.
>>
>>2438519
I can get behind this idea as well
>>
>>2437268

Like how in the pokedex page for Tyranitar lists him as the "Armor Pokemon" or one of your own pokemon like Cubcoal could be the "Little Badger Pokemon" for example (If he's actual supposed to be a badger). It's a small detail I know but it's a little touch I like and I'm curious why you didn't include it.
>>

5. Parafly

8. Scramprey
Chiwip might have some competition for coolest entry
