>New player?
Synopsis: This is a dark fantasy quest where death is closer to you then your shirt. Currently, you're playing the rogue Kae. After living most, if not all, your life in the woods you are forced to rejoin society due to the ever dwindling game in the woods. After coming to Wilstown, and finding it devastated by some unknown force, you are quickly recruited by the mayor into a witch hunting quest. Soon after you meet a knight named Jackson and the two of you venture deep into the witches lair.

>Old threads?
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/qstarchive.html?tags=mysojourn
>But wait! Where is the very first thread?
https://yuki.la/i/529596

>Schedule?
I update every 1-4 days, depending on how busy I am with school work. On holidays I may update everyday, on exam crunch time I may not at all. This is not a quest that you have to show up on time for, drop in every day or two and you wont miss anything. Lastly, I will use the same thread until it falls off page ten.

>Rules?
-Prompts that are more in depth have a better chance of succeeding. Example: you have a better chance of success if you provide an argument as to why the monster shouldn't eat you then if you simply say "convince him not to eat you".
-Prompts have to make sense in continuity to the story. Example: characters who are established pacifists wont start murdering randomly for exp.
-No meta gaming

>How can I reach you OP? In case you disappear or simply to chat about none quest stuff.

The rain picks up

As you travel through the forest you quietly but very visibly pout and fume. You don’t deserve this kind of treatment, you have done nothing but be helpful since you met Jackson. Every now and then you venture a glance to see if he has noticed how distraught you are, but he stares straight ahead and seemingly refuses to acknowledge your displeasure. If only he wasn’t wearing that helmet you could maybe read his face. You want to say something but you don't want to be first to talk, you have given lots to this relationship and its time to draw a line in the sand! The time to set precedence for your relationship is now! If you let him get away with treating you so poorly the situation is sure to get worse. So instead you get passive aggressive, you don’t wait for him to follow you over some of the more difficult terrain and you let a branch or two swing back and swat him.

Time draws on and the rain gets even worse, you hear lightning and you know its time to take cover

[Hunter] You decide to head down a new path to find some shelter. Without needing to say anything Jackson has already started following you, a good sign, at least that means he is paying attention to you. A great river must have flown through these parts once upon a time as great swaths of earth have been carved out into a ravine, no caves but plenty of semi cover. You choose a spot and get to work on a fire, Jackson simply watches. Soon enough you get as comfortable as you can in front of the warm flame, it feels too early to sleep but there is not much to do. You wish Jackson would say something to you and end this stalemate but instead he only walks over and takes a seat behind you, pressing his back to yours.

His back to yours feels nice, its not very comfortable at all but it been a long time since you were this close to anyone for so long. After some time you lose yourself a bit to this small intimacy and stretch your back all along his, letting the back of your head rest on his shoulder. A part of you wants to snuggle in closer but the stronger part of you is far too shy. You almost drift off to sleep before getting the bright idea to draw something for Jackson, you may be socially inapt but sometimes you have found success in connecting with other people through your art. Your images convey what your words can never hope to.

You hope Jackson has not fallen asleep, you rip the page out of your journal and without turning around pass it over head to Jackson. Your anxiety starts to fire up but thank god he takes the paper from you soon enough. He says nothing, hopefully you didn’t upset him. [Charisma(Artist): Failure] Eventually Jackson's hand finds one of your wrists and gives it a soft squeeze, with his back still pressed to yours “Why did you have to go and get yourself involved?” ”These woods are my home Jack, they are all I have left. I was 'involved' before I even knew about the witch” . He doesn’t say anything, “I needed the reward, i-” suddenly you get really embarrassed, meekly you continue “im really hungry” as the words leave your mouth you almost cry. Soon after Jackson lets your wrist go, “Kae, can you do something for me?” now its your turn to say nothing. When we get back and collect our reward, I want you to come with me to Cobuege. I would prefer if you stuck with me for a little while, don't as me why.”

Ooh Jack, you know just what to say to a girl don’t you? “Oh, yeah... Ok, sure Jack, we can- I mean for a little while- we can stick together” . Where ever you decide to go Jack, I will follow... You don’t have to turn around to know his hands have gone to his face, you can feel it through the contractions of the muscles on his back; his helmet is off. You want to sneak a look at his face but you are so tired suddenly, Jackson's offer sapped the last of your energy. Laying your head back on his shoulder and resting it against his neck you start to doze off. “What is a 'Cobuege' Jack?” “Oh, well actually its a type of stew. I believe the town is named after it” ”Yawn~~ interesting” “Yes indeed, its a pretty popular popular dish you see. First they take a cabbage and some carrots...” You hear his voice but you don’t listen to the words. With every blink your eyes stay closed longer and longer. Soon you drift into a deep dreamless sleep. Strong hands grip your arms, body, and legs but you don’t wake up; they squeeze down on you but they do some gently enough to keep you asleep and content.

-You recover 1 HP
-The rain has stopped

You're eyes open, its morning. Sensing you move around Jackson speaks “God morning, I don’t mean to rush but we need to get moving when you're ready” Brushing the morning out of your face in a pond you are soon ready to leave. You reach into your bag to produce your last ration “want to split it?” “no Kae, im not hungry” , good enough for you. Kae eats the final ration

It is now the dawn of the third day

Traveling with Jackson takes longer then traveling alone, but you make it back to Wilstown just the same. Its already midday by the time you arrive, the town is more lively without the constant precipitation but it is still a shell of its former self. “Do you remember the way back to the mayors house?” [INT:Failure]”Kinda, it was near the center somewhere?” . The two of you enter town and start heading towards the supposed location of the mayors house. It doesn’t take long for people to notice you, they hang out in gangs and don’t seem very friendly. Soon it becomes apparent that they are following you, there is quite a few of them.

There never was much of it in the first place, Jackson didnt explode the witches head he only cracked it so the woman died of internal brain hemorrhaging. Other then that the rain washed you both off. Although your shirt has bloody hand prints on both sleeves from when Jackson grabbed you. Not a problem for Jackson since blood doesn't really show on him

Notify J. about the gang following us. Keep heading for the mayors house/center of town, with any luck they'll disperse once we get closer to most likely posting of guards.

As you keep moving through the town people notice you immediately, you and Jackson stick out like sore thumbs in this environment. The villagers seem to dart up to one another and whisper in each others ears, some add to the ever growing wave that threatens to consume you while others dart away to unseen places. Your danger instincts fire rapidly and often, yet Jackson seems like he doesn’t even see them; he walks next to you in step but is letting you lead the way. You tug on Jackson's tabard before whispering “I think we have some company” “I know” of course he knows, you know he knows “uuh, what are we going to do about it?” “we are going to go to the mayor's house and collect our reward for risking our lives to help them” . You cant help but hear the snideness in the last part of that. Jackson may be willing to wait for the confrontation but you are not, the moment you turn a corner you grab Jackson's wrist and start pulling Jackson down the road; unfortunately the most you can get out of him is a light jog. Try as you may you cant seem to locate the mayors house or even some of the guards. Eventually, you turn a corner to face a group of 10 men blocking your way, turning right around immediately only to find another 10 men blocking your escape. You’re trapped!

You open your mouth to speak “I thi...” but your conversation partner is gone, the men blocking Jackson's path never stopped his forward motion. He continues towards them until some one steps forward to confront him. “Who are you? Why have you come to our town?” “You're in my way” you catch up Jackson and stand next to him, the man talking with Jackson doesn’t break eye contact with him to look at you “I know you are working for the mayor, what have you been doing for him? “move” the man's entourage starts to slowly circle around you “I have reports that you both have been in the mayor's house, come clean with what you have been doing. Where is Loki?” “last chance” Jackson adjust his sword so that it rests on his shoulder. The situation is reaching its inevitable climax.

This, don't do something stupid. That's a situation you won't benefit from.
You might lose Jackson's trust and support, and you, most likely, won't get the villagers off your back.

Best option is to show you're not threatening the town's peace I think. So, maybe requesting to meet the mayor with the company of guards if necessary is advised.
Once you make it to the mayor, it's easy to get him to dismiss the guards if needed.

A battle here helps no one, least of all yourself, so you decide that you’re morally obligated to attempt an intervention here. Not wanting to watch Jackson rip and tear into these villagers you put your body in between Jackson and the stranger, arming yourself with the final tool left in your pacifist arsenal; your words (may god help you). “H-hold on guys, umm, we can maybe talk about this? No need for violence right?” The strangers eyes burn right through you, “I know who you are, you confronted Loki and made him leave. What did you say to him? Did the mayor put you up to that?” Who? “Sorry im not...” “I have reports that you talked to him. You talked to the mayor, and then went for Loki. You’re the last person to talk with him” is he talking about the man with the wolf hat? This is not going well... AH! Your hero papers, if you show these to him maybe it will calm the whole situation down. You reach into your bag and present your documents to this increasingly agitated man. [CHA:Failure] Feeling increasingly nervous with so many eyes focused on you, Kae starts stumbling over her words ”If you, your talking about,, er, hmmm. The man with the hat, the wolf hat I... OH GOD this was a bad idea. The man exams your documents and his face takes on a deeper frown before crumpling the paper and throwing it back in your face. “what the fuck do I look like to you? You clearly wrote these out yourself, 'an adventurer guild'? are you some kind of retard?” wow, you look down at your feet and feel like a fool. You hope the earth swallows you up and saves you from the leering faces of the crowed. Everyone is watching you, so many eyes all over your swarming all over body, you start to feel your legs giving out.

Jackson gives his sword a slight nudge, picking up on this silent order from its master it leaves its resting position on Jackson's shoulder and CLEAVES past the strangers ear before gently resting on his shoulder; his eyes open wide. “Watch your tone when speaking to your betters, peasant . Not only did Jackson's sword cut through the air but it cut through the thin layer of mounting tension exposing the violence building underneath. The villagers raise their weapons and start moving towards you before a raised hand from their leader stops them. For the first time you get a look at the people around you, they are not as scary as you imagined. Most of them look sickly and malnourished, they brandish makeshift weapons and clubs, and only about half of the men that had blocked your path actually moved towards you. In a much calmer and gentler voice “One last time, why are you here?” Jackson gives you a reassuring squeeze and you feel better [CHA:Failure] “we've been hired by the mayor to deal with a wi..” you remember Jacks warning “er 'problem' in the forest, we are just looking for our reward now im sorry I cant tell you more then that you have to trust me we mean you no harm” he seems to consider it “Sorry. Not good enough” . At this point one of the villagers reaches out to take hold of Jackson. Big mistake as Jackson brings down the tip of his sword hilt on top of the man's forehead, a loud crack later the man is just a pile on the floor. The leader of these men uses this opportunity to melt back into his entourage.

~~COMBAT~~

“stay close Kae, this is going to be a blood bath” the thought of this fills you with grief, they are just poor hungry vagrants “Jack wait, use the flat of your sword? Please?” “... I'll think about it”

Jackson now suffers a few negative effects this battle:
-his sword is now a 1d2 weapon
-he doesn’t have access to all his abilitys

It is now your turn, your movement range is 4 spaces

I believe Kae is very skilled with her bow, being a hunter and all.
If she can parkour her way up to a rooftop swiftly and with efficiency, she should do that. So, Kae, RIGHT(her right, our left) x4
The plan is to shoot the leader in a non-lethal manner and cause intimidation among villagers.
Kae, then, should lay flat on the rooftop to avoid being located accurately and shout one more time that they don't want to cause any harm, and that they just wish to speak to the mayor

Once this is over we seriously need to work on our CHA stats lol

Jesus where were you yesterday? I have very quickly come to realize how important something like that is as I have no idea where you guys actually want to go.

You have 2 arrows left, second you cant shot someone standing next to you. Its better said that the bows range is 8 - 2 tiles (my bad), as for aimed shots Kae doesn't have the ability to do that effectively, ill be rolling a dice to decide your success.

>climbing shit
Kae cant climb the slopped section of buildings with her current agility. She can however at 4 AGI "attempt" to climb the flat section of buildings, but only if she has all 4 movement points when standing next to the wall

Alright, so since Kae is a squishy rogue surrounded we need to get out of their, and Jack's, way. So, if we can't get to higher ground, we should stick to Jack's back and cover him. Stay defensive, call out incoming attackers, and let our questionable knight do what he does best.
>>
>>2469940
Love the work you did. Given were trying to be non lethal & we don't have the luxury of sheer strength were going to have to aim for the limbs or clunking them over the head.

I do suggest having us equip the hunting dagger in our left hand so we can try to use it as a defensive weapon.

[blue ]Kae's Battle Ai: [/blue] Stay close to Jackson, aimed shot: arm, move to D4, defensive

Things to note "protect" lets Jackson take blows for Kae as long as she is in 1 tile radius away from him for 3 rounds or from 4 targets, what ever comes first. Moving a distance of 3 from Jackson breaks this effect entirely.

"radius" counts diagonally and expands through all tiles around and including the start location. "distance" dose not get counted diagonally, Kae's bow range is counted in a radius.

>>2471573
Kae's chance to parry is 0%, her only defense is dodging, a whopping %50 chance taking out weapons not in your quick draw slot takes an entire action, you cant duel wield effectively without "ambidexterity".

Although you CAN overwatch, but you must have more DEX then who ever is attacking you or the effect is wasted

Its your turn again, after you its the other two green guys then ALL the red guys.

>then ALL the red guys.

Well, shit. Knowing how mobs work they will either scatter after a few casualties or attack with suicidal ruthlessness. Lets hope its the former.
>>
>>2472322
>Quickdraw trhe sword and attempt to bullrush past the green guy next to us.
Shoulder tackle him, kick him in the groin, rych him with the sword to make him retreat, anything that works. We need to get to the A line, or we'll get mobbed.
>>
>>2472848
yeah this sure
>>
>>2472322
With the mob next turn we gotta get out of Dodge. We should either try to escape combat with Jackson (if it's an option) or hold our ground at the south-eastern edge. If we can't run we need that chokepoint or we're gonna eventually get swarmed.

For this round: Atack the guy at 4c with
our sword and move to 6a (should be still in range of jack's protect).

Also OP, please explain the rules of combat to me like I'm twelve, I don't really catch them (and if you put them at the start of each thread with links to pictures of the character sheets I will love you forever)

>>2472322
Idea: we taunt the leader to fight him. Or maybe Jackson can challenge him to a duel. He's a knight, right?
>>
>>2474428
Why would the leader give a shit? He already sent a mob at us without hearing us out, I doubt he'll be chivalrous enough to do it. Fuck him.

You cant reach A6 so I left you at A5, also you can indeed flee from combat by reaching the edge of the screen. But Jack wont flee from combat.

For this round go with this : >>2477461
However if anyone else agrees go attack him with the sword since I would prefer keeping an arrow just in case.

>>2477461
It may say "dead" in the combat log but you haven't killed anyone yet. The injures that you have caused them may lead to death though.

You may have fought the undead just yesterday but this battle is completely different, these are real flesh and blood people. They bleed and they hurt when you cut them, somewhere someplace these people have family and friends. Ultimately, they are just like you, scared, desperate, hungry, and willing to do anything to survive. You didn’t want to hurt anyone, but as the battle rages you soon find your adrenalin pumping and your ability to think rationally is slowly being overwhelmed by the raw instinct to survive. The wishful fantasy that you can get through this battle without taking a life, as you will soon find out, is nothing more then a delusion. While Dancing around Jackson you attempt to deal with one of his would be attackers yourself, charging at him you bring your sword down on him with a wide arc. He attempts to parry, like you knew he would, but, unexpectedly, your sword cleaves through his frail club like butter. Time seems to slow down as you watch your sword travel through his club and into his flesh, you cant stop any of this, it enters his body and keeps going, surely soon it will stop and you can asses the damage it did, no, it simply keeps going and going deeper and deeper. As the steal penetrates the frail man he attempts a scream but only a bubbling sound escapes his lips, as his blood coats your face and blade you feel overwhelmed. He is dead, you killed another human being, looking into his empty eyes you’re not sure that you will ever forget them.

“Jack?” the battle continues around you but you stand transfixed over this mans body, it reminds you of your uncles body, then of the witches body “JACK GET ME OUT OF HERE” you wonder if he even heard you

Kae becomes a bit unhinged

Jackson no longer suffers any negative effects this battle:
-his sword is now a 1d10 weapon again
-he has access to all his abilitys again

Its Kae's turn once again

Is this format better then just 1 big gif? With story elements thrown in and such?
>>
>>2479665
Definitely easier to read but it may be a bit troublesome when we get into battles with lots going on.

Let's move to 4b, let Jackson deal with the red peasant and let's just take a second to compose ourselves.
>>
>>2479665
would it be possible to try and scare them off at this point? Assuming Kae is in a good enough mental state of course.

We've killed a few of them, Jackson's carved through them, and they're just a bunch of peasants. Not trained fighters.
>>
>>2479665
Great job a lot easier to understand what exactly is going on. Objectively better & more coherent to understand.

>Kae "Let's get the fuck out of here"!
Back group of red hobos hasn't attack us, best to make the most of the situation & get out of dodge while we have the opening. Unless....

> Kae becomes a bit unhinged
Cover J. while he's dealing with the green hobo (move closer to him). Are tiny blood covered frame makes as a clearly excellent tool of intimidation for the approaching mob. Being as brave as possible Kae prepares herself for the next wave of 2by4 enthusiasts (Which is clearly to her striking a pose).
