What a beautiful morning to be Johnny Ando and no one else! May 24 too, a weird Wednesday…! Now you can finally cross out ‘losing your virginity’ off your bucket list!! Right, you’re at your girlfriend’s apartment and… she’s nowhere to be found. These sheets feel like new to you. Oh right, you and Nina had to clean up after the fact… Remember to do it as well when your time comes, kids! You put your glasses back on and check the time, classes start in two hours – there is no way in hell you’re getting to your apartment and have enough time to get to classes!

“About time you’re awake, Johnny.” It’s Nina! She opens the door and has a tray with stuff on it. “I brought you breakfast!” Indeed she has!
“Uh… Thanks.” First time in years you actually ate breakfast on the bed. Hell, you can’t even remember when the last time was, exactly.
“Hope you enjoy it, I made it with all the love in the world.” Nina sits next to you and dastardly steals one piece of your toast! You take the remaining toast and eat it, nothing special. “So… We need to talk.” Uccelli asks.
“What happened?” You’re being a little too casual after what happened yesterday.
“Well, I don’t think you’re going to be able to make it home and change for school, right? Why not take the day off?”
“What a naughty teacher you’re becoming.” You say, deadpan.
“I-I-It’s not like that! I have to go to work anyway, mister. I’m just trying to be the best girlfriend ever here and give you a break. You know, being a teacher has its perks.” She leans back, hands behind her head.
“I can still make it to classes from here, you know?”
“Hey, I don’t want anyone to find us out. So you'll stay put until an hour after I leave.”
“…I don’t think it’s going to make much difference.”
“Johnny…” She stares daggers at you! Why are you arguing about not going to school again?

You decide to deal with it and just smile and nod. “Okay, okay…” You keep eating.
“Good boy.” She kisses you on the cheek. “I need to prepare to go…” She stands up and leaves the cramped room.

Things can’t get any better than this, right? What are you going to do on your free time?

>Go to classes anyway, even if you're going to arrive late!
>Go back home! You will spend time with your hobos.
>You can check your phone before deciding, you never know what new options can appear!
>Write In.

Votes that require a dice roll are counted until 10 minutes have passed.

Dice Mechanic

I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 50 is a success on a normal roll. Above 60 is a success on a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.
We will roll after the voting is done.

No need to be hasty, let’s check out those text messages – maybe something important happened while you were having fun. Also, you decided to follow your girlfriend around, just for the fun of it. You change to your sweatpants before leaving the room.

Woah, you have a bunch of messages from various people! It would be a good idea to read them all, now that you have nothing important to do sans teasing your girlfriend:

The first one is from Trent Figg, the bully who helped you fight Rise…
Oh right, you left him at the clinic without checking on him. He’s asking about what happened to Yu Yan, straight to the point. Better tell him when you can.

The second one is from Scarlet! Hopefully, she didn’t become a shut-in again…:
“Tell me when you're free, we could do something fun together :D” Scarlet wrote. A smiley face like that is very disturbing after what happened.

The third one is from Bradford! Uh… That’s new. What's up with the fatso?:
“Attached pic, random suits asking around about her.” It’s a picture of Rise— you mean Yu Yan! She’s giving a peace sign, pic taken back when she was still insane. “Seems crazy girl wanted by same corp flame flew to. Already told others, what do?” You never expected him to be useful, at least not this quickly.

While walking behind the hurried Uccelli, she stumbled and dropped one of her family pictures on the ground. Instead of helping her, you decided to wait for her to bend over in the perfect position to smack her ass very gently.
Ando!” She screams, not one bit amused but still all red.
“Hehe. You liked it yesterday, didn't you?” You laugh like a dumbass. She stands up and pushes your forehead away from her. You keep reading more messages in the meantime.

The fourth one is an updated Matilda report about Nariko’s flame.
Under the full report, she hints that she probably struck gold but needs your help to verify the truth. You give a quick glance at the report, and Matilda’s big bet is that Nariko’s flame went to… the Ka-shing Corporation, the same building Yu Yan’s went inside! Uh-oh…

The fifth one is from Amelia! Said she bought pizza for everyone yesterday, and there will be leftovers in the apartment, so not to worry about today’s lunch and for you to take it easy. She’s really helpful sometimes, more than usual lately. Definitely must be the bear's doing…

The sixth one is from Constance?! Oh right, she can text! She says she wants you two to come in and have a chat with Athelone about what happened. Constance mentions Athelone for some reason decided not to call you last night at the Bridge. Good thing she didn't interrupt the fun you were having…

The seventh one is a Judge message! Technically not on the Chat-Now app, but it’s important! It appears the final eligible flame has found his user! Wait, they did that dumb reunion without everyone ready? Not that you care that much.

The last one is from… Anonymous?! It only read as follows: ‘Are you, Johnny Ando?’ This could only mean trouble. You could call him/her later if necessary.

“Are you going to keep walking behind me the whole time?” Nina seems a little tired of your shenanigans. Well, you have been following her around without saying much.
“What can I say? It’s a nice view.”
“View time's over then.” She turns around, kisses you on the cheek, sticks her tongue out and closes the door in front of you. You didn’t even notice she was ready to go…

Well, you’re alone now. What do you do?

>Go to classes anyway, even if you're going to arrive late! You might be ahead of the curve, but you still have to do your best!
>Go back home! You will spend time with your hobos. Who knows what happened while you were out yesterday?
>Call this mysterious anonymous number! This is worrisome, especially in the light of the final flame being picked.
>Go to the Clinic to visit little Constance! Could Athelone wanting to talk have something to do with what comes after the final flame is partnered?
>Call and meet with Trent and give him the rundown on what happened afterward. He might not be of much help against a whole corporation, but he might know something…
>Call and meet with Scarlet then meet up with her about the "fun thing" she has planned! You'll have to steel yourself, if its anything as bad as last time…
>Call and meet with Bradford and Osgood, try to pool the info together and see what sort of plan you can come up with. An entire corporation like Ka-Shing must have a weakness somewhere…
>Write In.

Would have been way smarter if you told Uccelli what you were planning to do, but too bad. This mysterious number, it’s best if you take action immediately than to wait for something bad to happen on its own. You sit on the un-comfiest couch ever and make the call.

“Hello?” A confused voice says. Sounds like a male adult, unfamiliar.
“Yeah, hi.”
“Okay, hi.” He says now, sounding more relaxed.
“Hi. Who is this?"
“…” For a brief second, you hear the phone moving away, then back to the guy. “Hey hey, you're Johnny Ando, right? I've a business proposal for ya.”
“Who are you?”
“Don’t sweat it, kid. I’m your friend and future business partner; name's Mikhael, Mikhael Ka-shing! Ya know, like 'cha-ching', the sound you get when the sweet money rolls in! Aww yeah!”
“Michael…?” Shit, is he really the owner of that company?! Why did he contact you directly? And how did he get your number?!
“No, no, no… Mikhael, with a k. Like 'knowledge' or 'knockout', ya feel me?”
“But those are silent. So you're Mihael.” You smile a little to yourself, despite how serious this is.
He brushes off the joke like it's nothing to him. “Just call me Ka-shing. I need your help, buddy, and I'm not askin' you to work for free. You see… I need your ability. You can see ‘em, right? Those damn pesky flames… Because you’re 'Johnny Ando', right?” He says it as if he's moving his hands in the air, the quote marks almost audible.

Okay, why the fuck does he know so much about you? This is only going to be trouble.

>Hang up in his face. You don't owe the guy jack shit for answers, especially after the way he got your number and sent you that anonymous contact out of nowhere.
>“ Yeah, I’m Johnny. Tell me more about this 'plan' of yours, and I’ll see if I wanna help.” Be open and see what his deal is. Far as you know, he doesn't know you were scouting out his corporate HQ the other day… right?
>“I can’t trust you, man. You need to convince me to help you first. Weird dude calls out of nowhere, asking for my help, and I'm just going to say yes instantly?” For all you know, he’s shady as fuck. This'll get him on your level.
>“What are you even talking about? What flames? Like the ones on your stovetop, or something? Sounds like a bad supernatural horror story.” Play dumb and dismissive. Force him on the defensive in this conversation.

“What are you even talking about? What flames? Like the ones on your stovetop, or something? Sounds like a bad supernatural horror story.” You decided to play dumb.
“Huh?! Are you telling me you have no idea what I’m talking about? …Damn, I’ll have to rip that dumbass a new one… Sorry for wasting your time, kid. And don’t drop out of school, you hear me?!” He hangs up rather quickly.
“…” Guess that’s settled! Wait, now your phone is ringing – it’s him again! You feel the need the to answer again. “Hello?”

“Wait a whole broken ass minute! You’re just playing dumb here! What about anything I just said implied paranormal shit, huh? I got you, boy. Don’t try to pull that again on me, you hear me? Trust is the most important thing in a business partnership!” He sounds like he's gritting his teeth.
“I thought the way you talked about those flames was like seeing spirits in a TV, or something.”
Drop the act, please. I’m serious here, my neck is on the line.” His whole demeanor completely changed to a deep, dry voice. So he was faking it all along…! “We’re talking business, Ando boy! Things like this aren't the kind one takes lightly…” He starts talking like before again, all cheerful as if nothing happened. Is this guy bipolar? He's got ridiculous mood swings!

What do you do?

>“Go to a psychiatrist. You're insane.” Then hang up and constantly decline his calls. Don't even attempt to get info out of him – he could try to get info back out of YOU instead, not to mention other manipulative stuff. Talking to him, alone, is a big risk you're taking.
>“I'll need an ‘advancement’ first, if you want to do business.” Wooo! Free money! This is still a good way to act like you're interested, just in case he decides to screw you over or it turns out what he wants is far from anything good…

“I’ll need an ‘advancement’ first, if you want to do business.” You are all business too.
“I knew you were going to get back to your senses, Ando boy. I see a bright future ahead of you.” You can feel him smiling, it’s honestly horrifying… Well, you don’t know the guy, but no person that sounds like this can be both handsome and well-intentioned. “So an advancement? That can be arranged! Let’s meet up somewhere first!”
No way you're falling for a trap that easy. “That won’t be necessary, just send me an envelope with the info, and some dough at the locker station, and I’ll see what I can do.”
“Why the locker station if I can send it to your actual locker at school? Green Foothill, was it? You should be on your way to school right about now, no? Better do me a solid and skip classes now. We can’t do real business without finalizing this agreement with a proper handshake, like gentlemen!” Ka-Shing has more dirt on you than you expected.

He continues with the same business-casual tone.“Now, Ando. I’m serious, let’s meet up now. I’ll go with a pal, you can do the same if you want – I want an honest-to-god good business relationship with you. I’ll give you your advancement of 50.000 Gor$ up front, plus the info for the job, how does that sound? I didn’t get to this position making enemies, you know?”
“How can I possibly trust you, Michelle?” You jest in a joking sarcasm.
“You pick the place, I don’t care… But it needs to be right now. I mean... If you want the advancement, that is. If you do the job right, you will get the whole 100.000 Gor$ anyway. Your choice.” He completely ignored your provocation again!

What now?

>“Just do as I said, please. This is as good as you can get from me.” Good-bye advancement.

“How do you know so much about me?”
“It was coincidence honestly; I’m a very fortunate guy, if I do say so myself. When my men were collecting intel in the city about flame-related incidents, a group of them found an interesting guy. Without going too deep in the situation, he said some crap about ‘I know a guy who can see flames floating around.’ Of course, that piqued our interest. And he wasn’t easy to convince, took a pretty penny from us, and he was pretty mad for being roughed up a little – but in the end, he sold you out.” Is there a traitor in the group?! Did Bradford or Henry sell you out?! What’s the meaning of this?!
“Mind telling me his name?” You try to keep your voice nonchalant, though you're not sure if anything is showing in your voice. Either way, if there is a traitor, you'll make them pay.

“Ohohoho! You interested now? I’ll bring him to our meeting too, if you wanna. I don’t care about him one bit, probably can convince him to go if I pay him a little…” Now he's teasing you about it! Ugh.
“Just tell me his name. If you really want to gain my trust so badly, that'd be a good start.”
“But what about the raw emotion of looking at the man who betrayed you eye-to-eye, like a man?! Just thinking about it gets me excited, a golden moment! But fine, this isn’t a business I see much development in… The kid’s name is ‘Howie Dewitt’!”

No! THAT BASTARD…!

…Wait, who was Howie Dewitt again???

“Who now…?” You're completely confused, having never heard of or seen this man before in your whole life.
“Ah? Whaddya mean 'who'? Howie! You know… that mellow kid with seemingly no friends, or charisma, or anything significant? Wait, you not being his friend makes a lotta sense, now that I think about it.” He chuckles a little nervously, not like a big-shot CEO. But you don't care.
“Whoever this Willy is, he’s going to pay.”
“Howie, his name is Howie.”
"Whatever."
“How can you assert your revenge if you even forget his name?! Anyway, so how's that? Can you trust your new pal, Ka-Shing? Come on, let’s meet up!”

This conversation has gone on long enough, hasn't it?

>“Okay, let’s meet up!”
>“Nah, just send the info and a sum of money, if you don’t want to send those 50.000 that’s fine. But if you don’t send a hefty sum I’m not going to do it.”

“Okay, let’s meet up, Mikkeal!” You say in a jokingly manner again.
“Excellent! Where do we meet up?” He, yet again, ignored your joke. The closest place you know here is the Karaoke Parlor.
“A karaoke place, it’s called The Reachers of the Stars. Let’s meet up there; I’ll bring my allies there too.”
“Karaoke, huh? Sounds fun. I only wanted you to invite a friend but whatever. Just try not to crowd the place; I’m kinda bad with strangers.” Ka-shing replies, at complete ease. “I’ll explain the details there, but I need you to find this girl, she has a black flame – I’ll send you the pic now. I need you on this case pronto, but I’ll see you first in a few minutes – Ando boy.” He sent you the same Yu Yan pic that Bradford sent you earlier.

Well, you’re going to meet up with an iffy guy in a not-so-iffy place, it would be a good idea to call for backup – most of your group should be busy right now, with school and all. Maybe if you’re lucky Osgood and Bradford are free.
Strangely, you received another call, but this time it's from Amelia! What's up with that? At least she has nice timing.

“Hey, Amelia.”
“Wrong, it’s me.” It’s Yu Yan’s voice! Did she steal Amelia’s phone? “Ame lent me her phone before leaving to school since I told her I needed to talk to you.” Rats, Amelia, you were doing so well too!
“I don’t think she knows she lent it to you…” You assume the worst.
“Wow, you’re really sharp…” Yu Yan replies sarcastically, but then gets serious. “We need to talk right now. I saw your little team chat on Ame’s phone. That’s a picture of me, right? The one someone called ‘Bradford’ posted? What’s going on?”
“Yu Yan, give Amelia her phone back.”
“We’re not talking about that right now, now tell me what I want to know. Who are these people and why do they want me?”
“I’m not sure. That’s what I’m trying to figure out, now be a good girl and stay put.”
“No, no, no, no. I know you’re hiding something from me, now tell me the whole truth right now, or I’m going to find one of these guys on the street and have a little chat with them myself.” Yu Yan is threating you! What a bold dumb lady.

How do you respond?

>“After classes I’ll tell you everything, just stay calm in the meantime.” Buy yourself a little time. You will gauge later if it’s worth it to tell her the whole truth or not.
>“Go ahead, get yourself killed or something. I did what I could to help you.” You’re going to clean your tears with the money you are going to get in a few minutes. Honestly, this is more of a bluff than anything. Yu Yan probably isn't that suicidal, is she?

“Fine, this is what’s going on…” You explain everything to the once crazy girl; you had no other option, have your back against the wall – at least, if you really don’t want her to do anything crazy. It took her a few minutes to digest every single piece of information you gave her, and she didn’t believe you at first, so you had to insist for a while.
“What in the hell am I…?” Yu Yan has mixed feelings; you can hear the anger and confusion in her voice.
“That’s the truth, please don’t do anything stupid.” You plead.
“I… I don’t know now if I really want my memories back… ” Yu Yan is not listening, disturbed.
“I’m going to get back as soon as I can, stay safe. I need to deal with the weirdo.”
“Uhh… Yeah… Goodbye…” She hangs up, at the end there she sounded like she saw a ghost.

She needs emotional support, but too bad you aren’t there to help. You’re just doing your best, not working miracles. Anyway, you should contact the troops and see if anyone can help you deal with Ka-Shing. Amelia is confirmed out of the equation, but you can inform everyone else!

After briefly contacting everyone you could, the only one who was free to help was Osgood. Is he really in college? He seems to have a lot of free time on his hands. You better not mention that to him, though. He’s going to get here soon in his van.
Uccelli didn’t seem one bit happy about what you’re going to do, at least you talked to her after confirming Osgood’s help. After a few minutes of waiting, Osgood is here! You sneak out of Uccelli’s apartment with your stuff in your bag. You get in the van, pretending you didn't just walk out of Uccelli's apartment.

“Couldn’t say ‘no’ to that guy?” Osgood doesn’t seem amused about this impromptu operation, even though it sounds like he’s joking.
“50.000 Gor$, Osgood.” You raise your eyebrow. “But seriously, he knows too much about me, and I don’t want to find out if he knows about everyone else too.”
“Tell me everything in detail; it’s a short trip anyway, right?” Osgood is willing to do this dumb ass plan even with his broken arm. Now that's dedication!

“…And that’s all I know.” Your voice is going to die if you keep having to explain everything. “You seem awfully unfazed about this.”
“Just because I’m not screaming outside doesn’t mean I’m not screaming inside, but at least we aren’t expecting some obese octopus-woman here…. R-right?”
“He ]did kinda sound like a psycho, but no, we aren’t.”
“T-that ain’t reassuring. But here we are…” You two get out the van and inside the building. “Here, have a scarf just in case.” Osgood hands you the thing you used last time at the Villiers’ house.

One of the receptionists guides you and Osgood to the VIP room, looking at you two with a mix of awe and envy the whole time, where he mentions Ka-Shing is waiting. The room is a fancier version of what you and your girlfriend used yesterday, with a bigger coach and one of those disco balls hanging up the ceiling. There are two men waiting, one eccentric looking guy with dyed hair and one tough looking guy, and both men have flames – The eccentric guy, who absolutely must be Ka-Shing, is already singing… And doing an awful job like you were!

“Ando boy! Is that you? I’m so glad to meet ya.” Ka-Shing stops his terrible singing, walking straight up to you and taking your hand to shake it energetically. “Ignore the guy at the back, he’s just my bodyguard.”
“But he has a flame too.”
“W-what?! Hey! You never told me that!” Ka-Shing points to the massive guy.
“Are you gonna pay me extra?” The uninterested guy says, completely bored.
“Uhhhhh… No.” Ka-Shing moves his hand to the side in negation.
“Then, why do ya care?” He doesn’t seem amused. Ka-Shing shrugs back, then turns to you, noticing Osgood for the first time.
“Who’s your friend? I’m bad with strangers, I told ya."
“He’s a pal of mine, ignore him – he’s not that important.” You handwave the question.
You spot Osgood's eyelid twitching for a second in annoyance at you, but then he smiles and nods. "Yes, sir, just here for the music! Feel free to ignore me."

“We came here to do business, and that’s what we're going to do. Hey Flint, show 'em the case!” Ka-Shing demands, and the tough guy in the back shows you and Osgood an open briefcase full of money. “Here are 200.000 Gor$. Now the full reward is 100.000$ for both of you guys. If you want your advancement, though, you'll need to play a little game with me.”
“Game?” Osgood asks, pretending to be bored.
“What’s a better way to know a person better than playing a game with ‘em? Of course, I’m not asking you guys to win or anything… Just have fun with me!”
“Weren’t you busy?” You point out.
“This is a business meeting, of course I’m busy.” Ka-Shing seems serious about this deal. “Play with me if you want that advancement, those sweeeeet 50.000Gor$! Or we can go the boooooring way, and I tell you the details, and you two good boys can go home no problemo."
“Hey, you promised me the 50.000$ just for coming here.” You tell the (probably) millionaire.
Ka-Shing wilts a little at this. “Aww, don’t be like that, let’s have some fun…”

So how's this gonna go?

“I’m in. What game?” Hello 50.000 Gor$!
“Isn’t it obvious?” Ka-Shing grins as everyone else’s eyes point at the microphone. “Of course, the hottest card game around! ’Sparkles of Luck’! …Sponsored by Ka-Shing Corp.” He takes some booster packs out.
“What?” Everyone is bewildered, but Osgood is the first one to say something.
“Don’t ‘what’ me! You haven’t heard of this game? It's become extremely popular this past month! Everyone is letting it rip!”
“Like farting?” The bodyguard behind asks, cutting Ka-Shing down instantly.
“N-no… More like going at it! It’s absolutely sublime, here open those booster packs, I’ll open these, and we will fight fair and square!” Ka-Shing hands you a bunch of booster packs from this strange looking game, and the art is, well… Strange.
“But I have no idea how to play.” It’s true, but that hasn’t stopped you from winning games beyond your league these last few weeks.
“Don’t worry, it’s a simple game! And I’ll explain the rules. Okay, in each booster I gave you, there must be a Contenders card, and that will be your main guy in the series we’re going to play…”

Well, to explain it easier, these are the rules:

>It’s a card game played with a 6 faced dice.
>You have two types of cards, Contenders and Effects. You start by drawing 3 Effect cards.
>The objective of the game is to defeat the opponent’s Contenders!
>The Contender is your main guy in the game; he has life points, attack points and defense points.

The Game consists of 3 phases:
>First Phase is putting your Effects card (only one) in play facedown. You can reveal its ability in one of the other two phases.
>Second Phase is both players throwing the dice to see who attacks first! The one who throws the bigger number is the one who will attack (unless an Effect card says otherwise!). You can activate your Effect card if you want to.
>Third Phase is attacking and defending depending on who is attacking. You can also activate your Effect card if you want to. If you don’t use your Effect card, it goes back to your hand.
>Repeat until one contender is defeated!
>If you use up all your Effect cards, you can draw 3 more, until your maze is emptied! (Max 12 Cards.)

>Life Points are how much damage the card can take before getting KO’ed!
>Attack Points are how much damage is added to the dice rolls while attacking!
>Defense Points are how much damage you don’t take when you decide to defend or dodge!

>In the battle phase, if you are attacking, you only need to roll the dice to see how much damage you are doing.
>In the battle phase, if you are defending, you can either choose to defend or to dodge!
>If you defend, the damage you receive is the attacking roll of your opponent minus the defending roll you threw, if you somehow defend more than your opponent’s damage, you will still receive 1 damage regardless.
>If you dodge, and your rolled number is greater than your opponent's, you receive no damage! Otherwise, you receive full damage.
>All modifiers are counted immediately.

That’s it! Have fun!

“…Yeah, that’s it.” Ka-Shing explained with great detail, and you think you get it. The look in Osgood's eyes tells you he's getting serious inside, just like the poker games and the pool match!
You open the 4 booster packs, and in each comes 4 cards; 3 Effects and 1 Contender…
You can only choose 1 Contender from the 4 you have. These cards seem awfully familiar!

Which one you choose?!

“Osgood, you play. I don’t get this at all… I'm gonna go talk to the buff guy.” You've already done so well in Craig's nights, it's better to throw Osgood a bone. You can take this opportunity to chat with the muscleman in the corner.
“What?! Giving up already? That ain’t hunky-dory.” Ka-Shing doesn’t seem that amused.
“Leave it to me! I-I mean, fine… I’ll play with you, I guess.” Osgood takes up your mantle; both sit on the long sofa in the room and start playing the card game together. “I pick ‘The Warrior Queen of Prosperity’!” He’s into it, confirmed.
“Your puny card cannot compare to my ‘Silent Greedy Hitwoman’!” Ka-Shing is going to battle Osgood with all his might. “Don’t blame your damn luck when you bite the dust, okay? This game is pure skill!”

You calmly approach the bodyguard with the flame on his elbow.

“Hey, is he always like that?” You ask him about Ka-Shing as the two of you watch two grown-ass men playing a children’s card game.
“Probably…? It’s my first day.” The tough looking guy replies, shrug included. “You still goin' to school, right?” Even though he’s asking, he doesn’t seem too interested.
“Yeah, Green Foothill… I thought you guys already knew that.” You reply with the same level of indifference. For some reason, you piqued the man’s interest.
“Wait… are you…?” He's paying much more attention to you right now, boredom set aside. “I have a question for ya, Johnny. Are you any good at pool?”
“Not particularly, but last time I played I did pretty well.” You put everyone in their place! But being humble is better here.
“Do you know a chick name Ma—”The thug gets interrupted by the two men playing.

“HA-HA! Your busty warrior-princess is no match for my silent assassin!” Ka-Shing celebrates, victorious!
“B-best of three!” Osgood is not going to surrender easily.
“Alright, bring it!” Ka-Shing is having fun at this.

“…So what were you saying?” You ask the tough guy.
“Uh… I forgot.” The tough guy spaced out, same as you did. “So you can see flames, right? You can see my little pal over here?” He shows you his elbow.
“Yeah, you have it on your elbow and your boss has it on his chest.”
“I assumed he had one, but thanks for confirming it. But seriously, shit, kid, how the fuck did you get yourself into this?”
“The flames prey on depressed people; something about being on the verge of death or intense trauma makes us attractive hosts. And I wasn’t very happy before, I can say that much.”
“Hey, I’m a very happy man and… Oh right… My Golden Crusher…” He looks at the ceiling, like he lost someone dear to him. Maybe his dog? Because you don’t think a person is named Golden Crusher. “But that wasn’t what I me—“

“The Lieutenant of Headpats is super broken! I knew it!” Osgood seems to have found his groove!
“Worthless Hitwoman! Last round, bro. Bring your A game!” Ka-Shing ain’t happy anymore, but his energy is still all in on this.

“They're getting pretty intense over there, huh?” You tell the big guy, grinning. “Aren’t you a little relaxed? For a bodyguard I mean.”
“Kid, I’m ready to snap you and your friend’s necks if you try anything funny, don’t care if you’re in highschool, preschool, or the nursing home. My not-so-bright boss only brought me here to help him, so I’m on edge.”
“Only the two of you? You shouldn’t be telling me stuff like that if you're a bodyguard to a big shot.”
“Oh, you don’t know how much I’m longing for you two to try to make a scene.” He cracks his knuckles. "Would make this more interesting."
“Well, I’m trying to keep things civ—“ You get interrupted by the dueling idiots again.

Bullshit! This game is pure luck! I thought they playtested this game for little shitty kids! Fuck!” Ka-Shing appears to have lost, fist on the table, other hand clutching the surface.
“Sweet! Another successful comeback for the Comeback Prince!” Osgood starts grooving under the disco ball.
“’Comeback Prince’? What kind of pantywaist nickname is that supposed to be?” Ka-Shing replies angrily.
“M-my girlfriend gave it to me…” Osgood says, almost ashamed.
“Gee, I feel so sorry for her.” Ka-Shing’s voice is all serious.
“W-what do you mean?! F-forget it! I won anyway!” Osgood snaps out of it and celebrates more.
Ka-Shing grumbles a bit more then turns to you and the bodyguard. “Oi, Flint. Give 'em 50.000 Gor$, please. They won fair and square.” Ka-Shing seems to be a man of his word.
“Aye aye.” Flint opens the briefcase on his hands, and gives you 50.000 Gor$. “Enjoy ‘em.” He smiles at you, but you're too distracted to tell if its genuine or not.
“Coool…” You stare at the money won. So much green…

“Now let’s get back to the boring part of this business meeting, but the part that makes more green.” Ka-Shing is in the business mood now. “I need you two find this little ray of sunshine as soon as possible, she reacts by the name ‘Rise’. I need her alive and well, I don’t want a beat up bloody little girl on my feet. If what she told me was true, she has a flame hanging from her hair – I'm also told she’s quite the loose cannon, so she can and probably will get violent.”
“That can’t be good.” You tell Ka-Shing just for the sake of keeping the conversation going.
“I notice in your voice a little bit of indifference, I guess giving you 50.000$ for playing card games with me makes this whole hunt not as attractive as before. How much are you and your pal Osgood interested on the war game going? Are you in it to win it, or what?”
“We're weighing our options. There's still a lot we aren't told about the full picture, and we’re trying to take the least amount of risk in the meantime.” Osgood explains.

Ka-Shing nods. “Smart, really smart. But I think I crashed your little plans, didn’t I? The truth is, we're all in the same boat. Everyone's acting like this is some Battle Royale shit, when the Battle Royale hasn’t even started yet. I feel like money ain’t too good for the two of you at this point… So I’m proposing something bigger: a mutual benefit for both parties. Without the girl, I’m out of the championship picture, and the two of you ain’t posing in there either. This is what I have to offer…” Ka-Shing takes a photo out of his pocket, showing a strange looking mineral under a glass case.

Suddenly it all starts to make sense! K, the internet troll who claimed to have a crystal piece, is actually Ka-Shing himself!

“Come June 4th, we're all fighting for this… This dumb looking rock, The Crystal of Knowledge! I think you two know what I’m getting at, right?" Ka-Shing starts grinning like a maniac! "Get me the girl, and I’ll give you a big piece of the crystal, and a guaranteed power boost with it… Maybe, I don’t know how it works! Now how does that sound? Interested now?” Whatever he needs Yu Yan for, it may be the most valuable thing in this world…

How do you respond?

>“What if I told you I already have the girl?” It’s time to cash in and play your cards right…
>“Sorry, we're not interested.” You must protect poor Yu Yan! This money should be useful on its own anyhow.

“Why…? Why do you need the girl?” The most fitting question you can ask given the situation.

“It’s complicated and bad for business if I tell ya. I already said my neck is on the line and I’m not kidding one bit about it. I didn’t play it smart since the beginning and now I got myself with a rope on my neck, and bitch, I’m not taking the jump! I’m cutting the damn thing! You understand?” Ka-Shing does a cutting gesture with his fingers.
“Yeah, but what will happen to the girl if we give her to you?” Osgood chimes in.
“Like you guys are in the dark in our deal, I’m in the dark in mine. If I had to judge for myself, I don’t think anything bad will happen to her; now I can’t know this for certain. But fellas, she ain’t one of the good guys, understand? She’s no damsel in distress; bravado is cool and all… But this ain’t the time to be a beta white knight.” Ka-Shing says what you already know for certain, she is crazy and violent. “Look, I’m trying to be as open as possible here. I’m giving you two money, and probably the best reward you can possibly have if you're a chess piece in this war. I’m not here trying to pass as a little wimp who needs saving or some shit, this is a legit business proposition. Alright?”

“I’m not in the business of bringing girls, heck, anyone to their doom. And I’m pretty sure Johnny isn’t interested in that either.” Osgood retorts.
“For fuck’s sake, man! How are you expecting to win this whole thing without getting your hands dirty? I’m a naïve fuck too, and I don’t like the idea either, but at the end of the day – at one point, my hands will be stained with someone else’s blood, whether I like it or not…" Right as he said that, Ka-Shing looked more worn out than you've seen him. "Point is, this is the best deal both of us can have, and the girl will probably be fine, okay? You in or not?”

Looks like Ka-Shing got himself into a bigger problem than he could handle. He's been honest so far, so you believe him when he tells you he's in a worse situation than you are.

“Guess this job isn’t as stable as I thought it was going to be.” The bodyguard Flint says. “Ka-Shing, you don’t need these kids. It’s just a matter of time for us to find her; you have men everywhere in the city, crawling through the streets. Sometimes literally.”
“It’s a ticking time bomb, and I want it defused immediately… Not taking any risks with this.” Ka-Shing replies, somewhat annoyed by his henchman's intervention.
“Give me the damn Crystal, and I’ll find your girl.” Flint wants to be part of the deal now?!
“Woah woah woah, we can negotiate that later. I’m here with these two, and they have the perfect ability for the case. Now, Ando boy and Comeback Prince, we have a deal or not?”
>>
>>2481666

“Johnny, I have seen the Crystals myself, a long time ago. From the image he showed, I can tell you that that is genuine. Even though claiming the thing for ourselves will give all of us the upper hand, it’s up to you. We will deal with the consequences as we always have, deal or otherwise.” Philonune says out of nowhere. He has your back, and Osgood is not convinced about the deal.

What do you do?! This choice feels much more crucial than you thought…

>“What if I told you I already have the girl?” A worthy step closer to victory… You promised to do your best, and getting the Crystals is a big part of that.
>“Sorry, we're not interested. Let your big guy handle it.” You must protect new Yu Yan! She hasn’t done anything bad – yet. Besides, you can handle Flint, you hope.

I'm gonna have to say no. We took her in because we figured if she got her memories back, she'd go nuts all over again if she didn't have someone to keep her calm and watch over her, not so that we could use her as a bargaining chip for a weird man-boy otaku CEO.

Note to self: Do not call Ka-Shing a weird man-boy otaku to his face.

“Sorry, we’re not interested. Let your big guy handle it.” You cut it short, no way you’re selling out anyone! Anyway, on the day of the fight you will have the edge, since you know where the crystal is now.
“It was a good offer, don’t be mistaken. But the price was too high for us.” Osgood explains, trying to maintain the affable relationship.
“Sadly not all contract negotiations prosper. It's a bounty, so if you change your minds – you know where to find me.” Ka-Shing doesn’t seem happy about this resolution, but he accepts it with a tired sigh. He gets up off the couch and shakes hands with both you and Osgood. “I’m not going to pester ya from now on, but I’m always open for a new business deal – and I expect the same thing from you two... remember I spent 50.000 Gor$ just to negotiate. Besides, you goody-two-shoes types are always good for business, haha!”
“Don’t worry, boss. I’m on the case.” Flint grins and cracks his knuckles.

“Should we leave?” Osgood asks you.
“Aye. Might as well.” You respond to Osgood, then you turn to Flint and Ka-Shing. “It was nice to meet you. Sorry it didn’t work out.”
“Good luck, kid.” Flint gives you a thumb up.
“Hey Comeback Prince, next time I see you, I’m going to beat ya at Sparks, you hear me?! I’m going to get better cards for our runback!” Ka-Shing points at Osgood dramatically.
“Uh… Alright… We'll see.” Osgood scratches the back of his head, but he's smiling too.

The two of you leave the VIP Room, then you’re escorted out of the building. You hop inside the van, as Osgood takes his place in the driver's seat.

You and Osgood just sit there silently for a minute, taking it all in.
“Not gonna lie, I expected this to hit the fan the moment you said ‘no’.” Osgood says as he puts on his seatbelt.
“Yeah, I was expecting the worst too, but I had to take that gamble.” You reply, following suit, but you now have to expect the bodyguard to show up at some point in the future.
“It’s kind of bad in a way, meeting someone who you know is a shady individual but who's also not a bad dude to hang out with. He really reminded me of Sewel in that sense.” Osgood says as he turns on the engine.
“First, I don’t think we can’t trust him at all. Second, what did Sewel even do?” Osgood, you were supposed to be pragmatic. What is this?
“I like to think I know how to judge people, Johnny, so I don’t really think Ka-Shing was all that bad… Plus, the card game was nice.”
“With his back to the wall, he’s willing to sacrifice a girl’s life to save his own. Is he really that good?” You counterargue.
“Okay, I guess I jumped the gun there too hard. But what if his situation is that bad enough, that he sees sacrificing a girl to be worth the bad karma?” Osgood brings up a good point.

“I mean it’s up to you to believe if he's good or not, situation aside, but we're going to fight him and his henchmen eventually no matter what. War is war.” You remind him of the big picture.
Osgood shrugs and nods, starting up the van. “I suppose you're right.”

After a bit of driving, you continue the discussion. “…So what did Sewel do?”
“He’s extremely shady, dude. Like ‘I can get you a fake passport for a few Gor$’ type of shady. None of the auto parts he sells are original either.” Osgood almost chuckles but he probably was one of the victims. “I can take you home if you want. We have 50.000 Gor$ to spare now anyway!”
“Oh yeah, we do! Wooooo!” Yeah, money!

And you two took off with the money in the back! You ended up dividing the money in two! You earned 25.000 Gor$! Holy moly! Just because you could, you check on your phone and see 4 missed calls, 3 from the same number… Lise’s! One was from Amelia, so that means Yu Yan probably called you. Well, you check your text messages since you have some new ones… From the same numbers that have called.

The one from Lise says that her mother was poisoned in her sleep and died this morning. She left the message with Calamity, but if you didn’t know, her parents were moved to the Grand Hospital downtown, then her father was moved to the smaller military one. She’s now dealing with the funeral and asking for you to keep an eye on Constance for a few days until she sorts everything out. You understand, having been through a funeral yourself before.

The other one is from Amelia! It’s not really her, because it’s Nariko and the text read as follows:

>‘Greeting, my dear Johnny Ando.

>It is part of my knowledge that you are occupied in this very moment, but dear Yu Yan seems to be in great despair and your assistance is urgently needed. I am doing everything I am capable of to help her in this troubled time, but I am being of little to no use in this predicament.

>Best Regards,

>Nariko Edamura.’

Why is it so formal and well written? Anyway, you have two issues at hand, but one more important than the other…! Well, that's not exactly true, but you get the idea!

What will you do?

>Go Home! Yu Yan needs you! The meeting with Ka-Shing is giving you a bad feeling about this, and being there for her will be a big help.
>Go to Calamity's Clinic, you need to keep an eye on Constance in the meantime! Besides, Athelone wanted to meet with you again, so this is a win-win!
>Call Lise! Poor girl needs support, especially with things happening all at once! You know what she's going through more than you'd like…
>Write In.

“Shit.” You mutter to yourself.
“What happened?” Osgood asks as he expertly drives his awful looking van.
“Big news… None of them any good.” You tell him about the messages you received, and Osgood doesn’t seem pleased by them.
“I have mixed feelings about… You know. But may she rest in peace, I guess…” By all accounts, including Lise, that woman wasn’t a good lady at all – but she’s a victim of a bigger ploy you don’t fully understand. “So you want me to take you to the Clinic? I’m not even sure why would you be needed there, but still…”
“I have to check on Yu Yan, if what Nariko says is true – she’s having a hard time now.”
“You told her the whole truth, right? Even the not-so-pretty stuff about being a crazed murder machine?”
“I had no other choice.” You stare at Nariko’s message on your phone.
“Then we're going to your place, and I’ll check on Dr. Calamity to see if anything unusual happened. I’ll keep you informed. Besides, it would be a good time to get my arm checked too.” Osgood is taking advantage of the situation in a good way.

After a very tranquil trip, you arrive home. You will have to sneak inside if you don’t want Craig to find out; not like he couldn’t be a bro and ignore the whole ordeal, but it’s better if you don’t push your luck. You’re inside your apartment, with nobody in the living room – the TV is off. What a weird sight, weirder too because not everything is clean or tidy.
“Johnny!” Nariko appears! She came from her and Yu Yan’s room, the one your father used to sleep in. She stares at you bewildered.
“Hey Nariko, tell me what happened.” You leave your bag full of money on the couch.
“…” Her face turns red as a tomato, still frozen looking at you.
“N-Nariko? Are you okay?” What’s wrong with her? “Is Yu Yan okay?”
“Yu Yan…? Yu Yan!” Nariko snaps!
“Okay, so?” She’s acting even stranger than normal.
“F-first have this.” She gives Amelia’s phone back to you. “I-I-I’m sorry for using it, I didn’t want to, b-b-but Yu Yan was so sad – I was getting worried a-a-and…”
“Don’t worry, Nariko. It’s all fine and I’m glad you sent me that message, now where is she?”
“She’s in bed, she doesn’t want to move or do anything! She loved pizza yesterday, b-but she threw the slice I tried to give her! She’s so sad… A-and… I was patting her back, telling her everything is going to be fine and she’s special and… and… I don’t know if everything is going to be fine, but I want everything to be! And s-she told me I should stop wasting my time and to… to... Go away…” Nariko is on the verge of tears. Knowing Yu Yan, she probably didn’t word it like that.
“Calm down, Nariko. You did what you could; Yu Yan is probably not in a good place right now.” Honestly, even this assumption isn’t a good one – knowing the type of person Yu Yan really is.

Nariko guides you to the patient. Hopefully, whatever you learned dealing with Scarlet’s shenanigans will be helpful here. Yu Yan is on the bed, curled up with some bed sheets on, looking down… Well, here goes nothing.

“Yu Yan, it’s me, Johnny.”
“…” Yu Yan doesn’t react, is she depressed? Throwing a temper tantrum? Or is this all a trick?
“Yu Yan?” You sit beside her on the bed, with Nariko watching from the door. Yu Yan is still curled up.
“…Hey.” Yu Yan finally replies without moving an inch, with the most depressing voice you have heard in a while. You’re getting used to depressing people now…

What do you say?

>“Why are you looking so down? Now you know some of the truth! Isn’t that what you wanted?” Try to be positive! Hopefully, that does sound positive and not completely insensitive like an asshole.
>“Nice haircut.” Did she go to the stylist yesterday? Anyway, she almost looks normal, outside of the depression she seems to be in.

You know what, you’re tired of this. Are women always this depressed?! This shit has got to stop!

“I have too many depressed women in my life, and You. Will. Not Be. One. Of. THEM! Take this and SMILE, fucker!” Time to start tickling this little curled up ball of sadness! “SMIIIILE, DAMN IT!”
“W-WHAT?! S-S-STOP! DON’T TOUCH ME! S-STOP!” She’s trying to fight against it, but years of experience teasing your dumb sister have mastered your tickling technique…! Well, not really, but you used to tickle Amelia all the time when you were little.
“SMILE!” You yell at her. Out of nowhere she grabs your tickling hand and goes for a flawless armbar. “O-okay, I’ll stop! It was a joke!”
“I told you before to stop, you stupid nerd! Now too late for that, I’m going to snap your ARM!” Yu Yan seems half serious and half joking, but she’s visibly enjoying herself. Guess that makes this a victory, but a painful one!
“I said I’m not going to continue! Please don’t do it!” You have Philonune close to you just in case. Wait, his grin is wider than before! Is he enjoying seeing you like this?! Not that it matters; you'd probably feel the same if you weren't the one trapped in an armbar.

Out of nowhere, a flying pillow traverses the air and smacks Yu Yan on the face!

“L-l-let him go! You don’t take your anger out on others!” Nariko doesn’t seem amused.
“I mean, who does that!? He deserves it, come on!” Okay, maybe Yu Yan wasn’t kidding after all!
“Sorry, but I’m just really tired of everyone being depressed around me. Guess it wasn’t the best strategy…”
“F-fine…” Yu Yan lets you go. “Now never do that again, or I’m going to ki— hey, what happened to your face?” She looks a little red herself.
“To my what now?” You adjust yourself, glasses about to fall off.
“Forget it…” Yu Yan goes back to being a ball. “Just leave me alone.”

“Yu Yan, you were fucking possessed by a flame monster, it almost killed you to remove it, but you got amnesia instead. So look on the bright side, you’re friends with us now… Also, you may or may not be hunted right now by the Ka-Shing Corp., for some reason we don’t know.” This is getting dangerous!
“Friends? You seem more like a bunch of weirdos to me.”
“Geez, thanks.” Why are you being so kind to her? “If you need to talk I’m here to listen.” Like you always do, yeah?

“I don’t have any memories, dumbass. What can I even talk about? Everything turns dark anytime I try to reach to the past, random parts get blurry and everything becomes nonsensical – my friends, my family, my life, it's all fucking dark. And it hurts my head every time I try to look back too! I hate these fucking headaches, hate them, hate them, HATE THEM!" She's shaking on the bed. "And you know the worst part? If I had them back, I’d probably end up crazy ‘cause I’ll remember what the fuck happened. And I’ll have my reasons to go back to being a monster, a crazy sadistic lunatic, or something. Isn’t that fun, dude? Having that shit constantly hanging over my head? There's nothing for me to fight for, because the me of right now doesn’t want to play with knives anymore – I don’t want to hurt anyone, not again, not now that I can stop it… I know it’s better if I stay put and don’t do anything reckless, so that's what I'm doing.”
“Is that what you really want?” You cannot help but wonder, even though you understand a little.
“There's nothing else for me… Who cares about what I want?” She’s basically a ball now.

What a troublesome situation, maybe Yu Yan was a good girl deep inside, but something fucked up happened to her and she became the way she is now. Everyone has a troubled past, but she can literally run away from it…

What will you do? Even though she has no memories of them, Yu Yan still did a lot of horrible things as Rise. Despite essentially being a different person now due to memory loss, does this still make her guilty of her past actions as who she was?

>“You know, there is a way to stop those headaches and will let you live as you are now.” When you were finding out what happened to Nariko, Athelone had one special offer to her, deleting the remaining link to her memories would stop her body from reaching out to them or some shit. But she will never be able to recover them. Maybe that’s a good solution for this Yu Yan, completely severing ties with the past, the good and the bad.
>“Power through it, life ain’t over yet, and you can still make the best of it!” It’s true, Nariko is able to live a normal life despite having the exact same problem. Of course, Nariko is Nariko, but the point still stands! Yu Yan still deserves to keep on living, headaches or no headaches!
>“You are way more valuable than you think… But if you want to throw your life away, I know how you can be of help.” Guess selling her out will provide more benefits for you and the team. And Yu Yan probably wouldn’t mind, if this is really what she wants?

But this first
>>
“Well, clearly I care, at least enough to get my arm broken. Also, ow.” Your arm hurts just a bit.
“Mmm?” Her head slowly turns, you got her full attention.
“You have the dilemma, but I have the solutions.” You adjust your glasses.
“And what are you talking about?”

“There is a way to stop those headaches and it'll let you live as you are now. But there is a price. When I found Nariko at first, we kinda hit the same roadblock – headaches, memory loss, and a connection to a flame. There we find out a procedure to remove these headaches, and what is happening right now is that your brain is trying to make a connection to your memories – but since the removal procedure went wrong, your partner ended up tearing away part of your memories with it.” You hope you aren't overwhelming her with this.
“I understand that much.” She starts to deflate as she doesn’t see a new solution. But she doesn’t understand the whole situation yet.
“Yeah, but if we remove the connection your body has with your flame, your brain won’t try to make a connection to your memories anymore. Meaning you will be headache free, but...”
“I will lose all my memories permanently.” She seems to get it now.
“Exactly.”
“…” She seems deep in thought.

“You won’t transform into anything, you'll always be like this – sans the headaches. Now I don’t want to offer this option and sell it as the best thing ever. You can power through this pain and if you want, you could even recover your memories. As I understand right now, the headaches stop becoming a problem as you start gaining more and more new memories. Right, Nariko?”
“Y-yes! My head doesn’t hurt anymore when I’m trying to remember…” Nariko gets excited at her progress!
“Some of her memories we thought she lost are still in there. I think she remembered her mother at the museum, right?”
“Indeed...” Nariko looks sad.

“Yu Yan, I can’t make this decision for you. You need to decide for yourself.” You tell the once-psycho girl, who at some point sat next to you, paying attention to every word you utter from your mouth.
“I-I understand…” Yu Yan needs to make the hardest decision of her life, or at least, of this new life. “But it is really that simple? I just turn the page, pretend I was never evil?” She raises an eyebrow.
“I have no idea, dudette.” You scratch the back of your head. “I know you need to do your best, and part of that means doing what you feel is right.”
“I-I see…”
“Well, if you need some time to think I’ll—”
“No, screw that. I know what I want to do. I don’t know what is going to become of me from now on, and it terrifies me. But I don’t want to revert to what I was before! Please Johnny, take these headaches away.” She bows her head in front of you, almost begging for her change. In the end, it wasn’t a discussion of if she deserves it or not – but for her to stop inflicting more pain on others.

“You sure? There's no turning back with this…” You put on your best serious big brother look.
“Yeah, I’m damn sure of it.” She smiles, not the type of malicious smile she had as Rise – but from a totally different person.
“Then we’re going to the clinic!” You stand up; it’s time to give this girl another chance at a proper life! “Are you coming, Nariko?”
“No… I need to clean up the house. Messy Yu Yan didn’t let me.” Nariko explains, pouting.
“Hey, it wasn’t my fault… Though it kinda was.” Yu Yan defends herself somewhat, but gives up quickly.
"Oh, and put some pants on." You tell Yu Yan, who hadn't noticed she didn't have pants until just then…

You two sneak outside the apartment, going towards Calamity’s Clinic. This should be a non-eventful walk, right? And for the most part, it is! From your end of the street, you see Osgood’s van a ways off! He must be still inside; you two are so close…!

But sadly this is all we have for this week’s thread, see you next time and thanks for playing!
