Last time, we decided to speak with the raid captain we're tagging along with to make sure him and his less than heavily armed men from getting their asses violated by anyone with a stern glare. After his sharpshooting lieutenant gave us some sass, we elected to fire back as only Magnus can.

You turn towards Meier, the smirking redheaded sharpshooter faltering under your gaze as you regard him like a particularly annoying insect. You sniff in disinterest and fix Dagmar with your gaze
"Ogre? You should show more control over your wives Dagmar, if this is how they speak to men."

Meier flushes, gritting his teeth as he goes to step forward but Dagmar speaks before he can begin his outburst
"Meier. Shut it before I kick your ginger ass myself. The man could pull your legs off. Pick your battles"

Dagmar nods to you, a small smile on his lips as he motions for you to sit, two of his men moving to make room for you to sit.
"Sit down Magnus. Im sure you didnt come over here to throw insults with my men and I doubt we're under attack so what do you need?"

You lean heavily against the stone and roll your shoulders before crossing your arms, watching Dagmar closely.
"Now. Hoping that no more catty long haired maidens decide to throw insults around, maybe the men can speak? Ive got my men on night watch, I had them take skins of ale from the men you had posted. Drunken sentries? Thought better of you Dagmar"

He shrugs as his men murmur amongst themselves, a brief scowl moving across his face
"Reaching a bit arent you? Those are still my men. And no harm. These mountains are ours remember? I made sure of that."

Not wishing to go through Dagmar's self-aggrandizing you decide to change the subject.
"This town, Crescent Hall. My men have given me some information on it and the Moonie movements in the area. It sounds like a reasonably defended town and I wanted to know your plan"

>97. Dagmar reveals his plan

Dagmar chews his lip as he thinks, regarding you carefully before he shrugs, spitting into the fire with a hiss
"Couldn't hurt for you and those pretend warriors you've got to know the plan. Now listen close im only going to explain this once. There are three villages around Crescent Hall. Moongaze, Yoel's Chapel and SilverBirch. If we raid them and let the survivors report back to Crescent Hall, they'll send out a detachment of their own men to deal with us. We hit those men on the road, take their gear and horses and use it to gain entrance into the Town. Simple enough for you to follow?"
He smirks, leaning back and taking a swig of ale

You mull over the details, taking longer than you normally would to trick Dagmar into thinking youre just an ignorant brute and finally you nod.
"Good plan. As long as they dont have any patrols of Lancers around we should be able to hit them and fade away without any men coming after us"

You bid Dagmar and his seething lieutenants a good night and make your way back to the small campfire your friends were resting around. You call over Wren and once you are all seated, you lay out Dagmars plan. While you may not like the mans attitude, the strategy is sound and you may be able to drastically weaken the towns defenses bedore you even set eyes on the place itself.

Wren rubs his chin beneath the cloth covering his lower face and hmmm's to himself as He thinkd before speaking.
"This does actually play to Dagmar's strengths. Attacking from ambush is the specialty of his men. If we can get the reinforcements from Crescent Hall in a puncher and prevent runners from escaping, we should be able to wipe them out with no trouble"

Urhost speaks up, rubbing his large hands together near the fire
"Im just thinkin' bout any lancers they got could ruin our day. We could split our forces and hit all three villages and do this in half the damn time. The longer we spend down in th'fuckin valley the more like those cunts are to show up"

You consider Urhost's worries and put them against the plan as you know of it. While your men could easily handle villages on their own, risking entire groups of men to ambush by Lancers could spell doom for the raid.

I caught up with the last thread

I wonder why can't Hemmik go to Duergir to see f he could use his shaman magics to fix his limp leg.

How much would an armored cod piece cost?

Has anyone considered adding armor to the griffins? Maybe some metal plates with leather straps in case the pups are still growing.

We should take all the animals and their food stores if we're successful

>Wren looks back into his home where a feminine giggle issues and he nods
Damn. Lucky guy I guess. I wonder whens the wedding, or the equivalent.

What do we gotta do for Magnus to be strong enough to punch off chuncks off rock with his bare fists?

>You smirk to yourself as you consider a stealth assault into the rear of the town by scaling a sheer cliff.
gonna need several long lengths of rope.

>>2501482
Should we also include the idea of having some men sneak into the town at night or by scaling down the cliff face or whatever it was called?

when we pick
>We march as a single host. No outriders
is that for all of ours and Dagmar's men to attack a single village, or everyone under Magnus's command will attack a single village, while Dagmar will handle the otehr two?
>>
>>2501595
Hemmick's leg is pretty fucked. It's not something Duerrgir can fix with the magic he has.

The griffons aren't fully grown. Getting armor for them at this stage would be a bad idea.

We've been over food.
>>
>>2501595
Scratch out the part with the rock climbing. If Dagmar's plan goes smoothly then there might not be any need, though, I hope his men can act the part.
>>
>>2501595
Single host means all of the raids forces fall on a single village at a time. It decreases chances of units being caught in the open and killed by Lancers but increases the groups chances of being discovered
>>
>>2501785
Then I vote for
>Bring up splitting your forces with Dagmar
>Send Wren and his best men to scout the area.
If Wren and his men can catch a few Lancers on patrol and interrogate them, then we might be able to avoid them. Or better yet, tracking them down and attacking them. Those horses could be useful.
>>
>>2501802
I think splitting forces is a poor idea. Let's act as one and let our scouts do their job.
>>
>Single host. No outsider groups.
>Wren and his best boys go scouting

You shake your head to Urhost's suggestion, knowing the risk associated with lone groups headed through the valley. Your men could be butchered if caught by a large enough group of lancers or militia.
"No Urhost. We stick together and do this carefully. Better to have it done right than have it done quick and sloppy. Besides, we want them to spread the word."

Urhost and Arvel nod in agreement and you turn to Wren, the scout immediately focusing
"Wren. I need you to take a small group of your best men and scout out the area. See what's waiting for us."

Wren nods, pulling out a small scrap of parchment and a charcoal chunk.
"Where do you want me to take them? It'll take me about two days if everything goes well."

>Send Scout group to

>Crescent Hall

>Yoel's Chapel

>Moongaze

>SilverBirch
>>
>>2501832
>Crescent Hall as an option
Could he actually pull that off? I forgot, but was it Wren or Urhost who suggested rappelling down the cliff into Crescent Hall?

I suggest Yoel's Chapel
>>
>>2501851
He wouldn't be infiltrating the town itself just watching and making notes of the layout
>>
>>2501873
oh. well it would still be useful if we could kill some lancers. you take away their horses and they're almost like regular foot soldiers, except probably have slightly better gear.
>>
Any other votes?

That way Wren and his men can sneak in at night up through the well and sow the seeds of chaos. Stealth kill the guards, set fire and block the door to the guard barracks, keep the doors open.

You quickly hash out a plan for Wren to scout for any secluded paths in the area around the town and also to scout the area for any possible hidden entrances. Wren writes down everything you ask of him in meticulous detail and promises to have the requested information by the time you make camp in the valley.
"We'll have to be captured or dead for us to fail"
He says proudly

That all settled out, you turn your mind to other matters..

>>
>>2502431
nah. Dagmar is a little brutal with his taking of, and treatment of women according to lore. His lieutenants were talking shit, so we implied that they are his wives. They took great offense, so we shall keep pressing that button.
>>
>Get some sleep.

You bid your companions a good night and retire to the small (for you) lean-to you constructed against a broad, low stone. You use your pack as a pillow and cover yourself with your trusty bearskin blanket.

You can hear the camp sleeping around you, the low conversation and snores a murmur in your ears as the stars twinkle high above, the silvery glow of the moon slanting through the slats in your shelters roof. You sigh to yourself and close your eyes, letting sleep claim you within moments.

Vall thankfully leaves your dreams be, no visions of war and carnage, betrayal and destruction mar your sleep. Your dreams are empty and formless, whispers of a life half forgotten. They call to you but you refuse them. That was a different life. A different you.

You wake with the morning light, Wren and his chosen scouts already gone. The embers of the nights fire are coaxed into life and you quickly wolf down a breakfast of jerky, dried fruit and tea. The warm food chases the nights chill from your bones and you shoulder your pack with no difficulty as the warparty makes begins the days march.

Once again, Dagmar shunts you and your men to the rear of the group but youd rathee have distance between you and the irritating man and his cronies. Urhost and Arvel flank you like a pair of foul tempered bears, the men marching behind you looking down the mountainside towards the valley with determination and focus.

They're ready.

You hope Dagmar's mob of savages can say the same.

You smirk over your shoulder at Urhost and the hulking raider narrows his eyes at you
"What? Bird shit on me 'ead again?"

You chuckle to yourself and Arvel snorts as you shake your head.
"I was just wondering if we could find something on this trip to make you worth looking at. What do you think Arvel? Think a gold mask or some Moonie whores paint could make Urhost here bearable to look at?"

You both roar in laughter as Urhost grumbles, a good natured scowl on his face
"Your one t'talk! Looks like a ogres ass your face does. Even got the big crack and unwashed bunghole you call a mouth!"
Arvel guffaws, clapping your back hard enough to crack a smaller mans spine. You grin viciously and eye them both.
"I didnt start out ugly though. I was MADE ugly. Whats your excuse?"

The three of you laugh and trade insults for a bit. Urhost's parentage, your face and Arvel's wits are all a target for your friendly ribbing and by the end of it, your ribs hurt and your face is red and you think your shoulders are going numb from the frequent heavy handed punches they're receiving

"So Urhost.. Tell me some more about yourself. A warrior like you must have some history"
You look back over your shoulder towards Urhost as he shrugs, scratching his shining bald head.

"Not much t'say really. Been a Crag Wolf all me life. My da, he fought with Barbas and Throth against the Blood Axes and against Lord Tyrex. My da died in the fighting and Barbas took me in, raised me best'e could. Terrible shame what the old drunkard did to Hemmik, boy was too young to be doing such things."

Arvel speaks up, nodding his head ponderously
"Aye, ol'Hem would've been a bloody monster if Barbas hadn't twisted his leg damn near off. The grouchy cunt used to beat boys twice his size"

Urhost scowls, spitting onto the stone and thin soil of the trail as he walks
"Aye. Terrible shame. Anywho.... After I was old'nuff, I started going on raids an' found out I was damn good at it. Wasn't too long, I was gone for weeks and months at a time, raidin', tradin', huntin'. I had me three women once but now ive settled my ass down wit' Hyalla and freed those three. That woman would've had me balls if id tried to keep them."

You all laugh at the absurdity of Urhost being ordered around by his giant of a wife, the stocky man being overshadowed by her by nearly six inches. You gesture towards the distant peaks
"And you said before you were stranded in a giant village for a winter?"

Urhost nods, gnawing a stick of jerky as he walks
"Aye aye. Got snowed in with a small hunting party going after a huge Cliff Jumper. Three of em tried to hike back. Dumb fuckers didnt make it a mile. The giants found us, brought us to their village in this sheltered valley and let us stay till the pass melted. I can tell ya, you've never felt less of a man than when y'see two giants fucking. The days march goes by quickly as you focus on the monotony of one foot in front of the other. One mile turns to two, two into five, five into ten. The thin, rocky soil of the mountain fades into the rich, dark earth and thick green grasses of the foothills. A swathe of flattened grass and footprints is left in the soft earth behind your host as you finally push into the forest pressing against the rounded flanks of the foothills.

With the cover of the forest around you, Wren's Skirmishers seem to relax finally, smearing mashed leaves and earth against their furs and leathers, creating streaks of green and brown that hide their forms in the foliage. It seems the scout master taught them well. You'll have to inform him of their impressive behavior when he returns.

Dagmar and his raiders hack down several dozen small trees, forming a small barricade of sharpened stakes around their camp. Your men opt for less conspicuous shelter, covering their tents and lean to's with leafy boughs and vines.

You lean against a treetrunk, running a whetstone along the blade of your spear, honing the already razor sharp DarkSteel into unimaginable keenness. The villages may not offer much in the way of glorious combat but you'd rather not risk the disadvantage of a dull blade.

QM, we have never prayed to you before. We have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we shitposted, or why we were b&. All that matters is that some had no lives, and were willing to spend their days hanging out on a Laosian fishgutting forum. That's what's important! Commitment pleases you, QM... so grant me one request. Grant us posts! And if you do not listen, then the HELL with you!
