/qst/ - Quests

>Tag with Troia Edition

Hello, good people of /qst/. This quest is, as is probably obvious from the OP pic, based on the Teen Titans animated series. You'll be taking the part of a young man and potential Titan, guiding him through his trials and tribulations.

>Rules

There will be a 15 minute voting period between posts.

Please only choose one option (I will let you know in cases where you can choose more)

An option with two arrows (>>) beside it is one that can be combined with other options

Write-ins of dialogue are allowed, but they won't be put in as-written, just sort of the spirit of the write-in. Additionally, dialogue write-ins require a significant amount of support from other players to be put in, as they can greatly affect the character.

Action write-ins will only be allowed under certain circumstances, which I'll announce. You can suggest an action to me if you want, and I may allow it, but might not depending on various factors.

No dice system in this quest. Victory and defeat will come down to decisions rather than random luck. Learn from experiences, develop strategies, and think outside the box at times (like I said, an action can be suggested to me).

Above all, have fun. I want this to be an enjoyable experience for everyone. Through success, failure, and everything in-between, I hope this will be an adventure worth remembering.

Anon-Leader standing by.

Even you're surprised by how fast you suddenly move through the air, right toward Donna. Just like your Psychic Punches during your earlier training, willpower significantly enhances your flight speed, allowing you to quickly speed up to Donna and poke her on the arm.

"You're it," you tell her before speeding away.

Luckily for you, she takes a few seconds to overcome her surprise at your sudden speed increase, allowing you to get a half-way decent head start on her. Starfire is right behind you, and the two of you gain some distance on Donna before she begins to give chase. That doesn't seem to be enough, though. As fast as you've become, Donna is still noticeably faster, and quickly begins to gain on you and Starfire.

Starfire looks back, gasps, and speeds up, managing to pull ahead of you, effectively protecting herself from getting tagged by Donna simply through being faster than you are.

She doesn't leave you in the dust altogether, though. You manage to keep up at a reasonable proximity, and the two of you dive toward the water, skimming the surface as you look for ways to evade your pursuer. There's a fair amount of boats to be seen, but part of you feels like using them as cover could put the people on them in danger. Diving underwater could work, assuming you can hold your breath long enough. The clouds could also give you some cover to try and shake your friend.

>A. Use the boats as cover

>B. Dive underwater

>C. Climb above the clouds

>D. Just keep flying

>E. Wait until Donna gets closer, then teleport back to the tower

>F. Use your powers to hold Starfire in place long enough for you to pass her

>G. Use your powers to slow Donna down and buy yourself some time

>/>>H. Write-in
>>
>>2504821
>H. Fly backwards to better judge Donna'd distance and right before she catches up, abruptly switch directions so she blows past you. Fly off in the opposite direction so she has to choose between chasing Starfire or reversing.

I figure our unique advantage in the air is that we can turn on a dime with our slides.
>>
>>2504830
Bonus points if Donna accidentally ends up hitting the water.
>>
>>2504830
Flipping to fly on your back, you watch as Donna grows closer and closer.

And then, a pit opens up and swallows everything, the end.
>>
>>2504879
Uh. Everything okay MoG?
>>
>>2504884
It was a fun ride
>>
>>2504949
Switched to laptop.

I mean, if this is really the end of the game, I'll respect MoG's decision, but it seems so abrupt. Why start a thread at all? Did he make the decision due to/after getting only one response to the first question? Is it because it was me, chatty anon who does a lot of write-ins specifically?

Its been a few days since last game, with one cancelation. Are there problems IRL that prevents MoG from continuing this game?

Regardless of the reason, MoG, I hope you'll at least considering letting us know why you came to this decision. I got a lot of enjoyment out of this game, and I'll be sad to see it go.

I'm going to continue monitoring this thread for a few days, see if anything develops. I hope the people who played this game alongside me do too, in case things do change.

I had to double-check like 3 times that it wasn't a fake. Really weird.
>>
>>2504985
I can make a few educated guesses as to whats going on, but no real way to be sure. My best guess is that MoG's probably not going to look at this thread or twitter for at least the evening.

I hope at least that he's okay.

Don't die MoG!

Welp, I didn't see this was up, was still in the last thread, but then this weird shit happens.

Hope MoG is alright

Either way, it's been fun and a good end-of-day activity to follow these, so I hope it's temporary. If it's not I'm still glad he ran things, and hope he's doing alright if it's personal issues.

I want to send a message to all of you anons out there- if you ever plan to run a quest, just give us one thing, don't be like this- a flake. QM'ing can be hard, you might need to take a break, go on hiatus or do something else to refresh your creative juices, but never, NEVER betray your audience like this.

This disappointment we feel? Don't ever go down that same path anon. When you decide to make your quest, take the high road. Be an inspiration not a malefactor, believe in yourself and your audience and have the integrity to follow through.

And to all the fakes out there, this is our hobby. We're going to have fun and we're going to carry on with or without you, so get with it or just get out. You want to pull this shit?

Akun's that way, go and stay go.

Senpai your qm took a big fat shit on you there's no secret pranks at play. A two sentence conclusion that's more brief than the NES Ghostbusters engrish ending blurb with no follow up, no explanation, no nothing, shouldn't be taken as anything but an invitation for you to go fuck yourself.
>>
>>2505591
What about Somnius? Didn't he run some really long quests?

Also MoG's writing is better.

>>2505586
Could be. Maybe it was the lack of players during this thread

You know, if somebody wanted to, they could pick this quest up right where it left off and keep it going if they liked it enough, be the hero we deserve. The plot doesn't matter, they can just take it any way they want it to go with what they have. That of course, assumes someone wants the responsibility of questing and cares enough about this thing to keep it going.

[spoilers] And don't look at me, because I'm not doing it. [/spoiler]
>>
>>2505635
I'm not a good writer, so that's not likely to happen.
>>
>>2505604
Lack of players is a bad excuse for this. Over in NMQ there's maybe 3 players at any given time and the qm is still trucking along.
>>
>>2505650
I agree, I'm theorizing about what may have led to him abandoning the thread/quest.
>>
>>2505635
>>2505637
I could try but I don’t really know where to go with this.
Need the refresh my dc knowledge
>>
>>2505675
to*
>>
>>2505675
I mean, I wouldn't be able to:
a) write as well
b) meet MoG's posting frequency
c) write based on DC knowledge with much depth
>>
>>2505660
Given the way it was done, the most likely possibilities are: 1. Anxiety, 2. Depression, 3. Frustration. And I can sympathize with any of those, even if I think if it was handled in an uncool way.

>>2505635
I'd consider it, but not yet. Lets give it some time, see if something develops. At the least, if MoG would share his notes with a possible replacement QM, that would help.
>>
>>2505683
That's what I'm assuming as well. Though if this is truly the end I'd rather have a fresh knock off quest than trying to continue this one. The characterization would feel off.

Though that is a worst case scenario.
>>
>>2505695
I don't want us to get too ahead of ourselves, since its too early too lose hope, but I agree, that's a huge risk. One possible compromise is to launch into a prequel arc, covering Samuel's time at HIVE.
>>
Accept it, guys. We got fucking Som'd. I'm not even mad that this quest ended like it did. With hindsight, I'm fucking disappointed and ashamed of myself that I missed all the obvious signs and fell for this shapeshifter's shit in the first place.
>>
>>2505711
What signs bruh?
>>
>>2505711
Who is Sominous? Will you tell me his tale?
>>
>>2505713
>DBZ quest ending around the same time this quest started
>The similar formatting of thread instructions/opening posts
>The similar way runs are concluded
>The (somewhat?) similar/evolved writing style
>The obvious railroading at points (ignoring the lack of dice) - see spoiler
>The frequency in which he posts and runs
>The past precedent of Som running quests with other names/trips/twitter handles
>The past precedent of Som ending his quests in this exact same manner

Blood's mindfucking after we ignored him is a prime example of this. We didn't bite the obvious plot hook, and the QM decided to take us there anyway.

I'm sure there are others, but that's off the top of my head.

This and

>INSTIGATORQM was created just before the quest started, after DBZ was dropped
>The story is in an established setting which has also been a cartoon, Dragonball several times, Avatar twice, Star wars, now Teen Titans and possibly others.

Lamplighter quest is really good.
I enjoy anything from merc, so frontier knight and macross quest I'll definitely push, Black Company is amazing and I love it. Metahuman quest by sleepyqm is good, as is DC quest by machpunch. Ashes of Rhysode is good if you're into mechs/battletech/gundam. Star Vs is an autistic mess that you'll love if you get used to reading it. Death among the stars is good, elf quest runs every saturday and has been a great ride so far. BrotherQM does a miraculous ladybug quest and a cool GoT/JoJo mashup quest but he's on hiatus till the summer because school is keeping him busy. I got a few more but that's it for current quests at the moment.

I'm certainly hoping this is just a big screwed-up joke at the players expense, but somehow I doubt it. The Twitter hasn't made any announcements either way yet.

Damn shame though, this was basically the only Teen Titans quest I've liked so far.
>>
>>2506171
>his stuff is good
SOM I sort of get, but that hack still having followers bewilders and disgusts me.
>>
>>2506398
People take what the lunch lady hands out not because is particularly good, but because it's the only option you have besides making your own lunch.

That's why Som still has followers.

This is your announcement.
>>

But Weaver is just an abortion of questing. He doesn't even wait long enough to see if the shit he's flung at the wall stuck.
>>
>>2506414
>>2506409
>>2506398
I've come to the point where i expect that weaver is going to bail, so i read the quests as one-offs and try not to get invested. The reason i'm so bummed about MoG bailing is I actually imagined this quest going for a while, like with Ravenking's Thug Quest or DarkGate Academy
>>
>>2506414
I don't know, I've always liked his stuff. Sure he comes out with more stuff but he's active, he talks to his community. I dunno.

“Abortion”? Really? He’s a damn human being. He has a life.
Sure he’s a bit sporadic with quests, but the way I see it is that he’d rather keep providing content that is interesting and engaging over content that is lazily thrown together out of necessity.
Quality over quantity, if you will.
It’s the way he does things and like it or not, shitting on someone for their own personal creative liberties doesn’t make you right; it just makes you an asshole.
>>
>>2506460
>He’s a damn human being.
Is he though?

Also relax, this is 4chan. You should be able to handle shitflinging and mean names
>>
>>2506460
>Quality over quantity, if you will
But it's quantity over quality, seven quests in as many months isn't quality.

I've noticed this kind of response is really common when you point out that certain QMs are anything but good; especially low-effort/quality ones from Anonkun.
>>
>>2506460
cool it buddy, are you weaver's personal defense force? it's reasonable to complain about someone's shortcomings, it's pretty well established that he's a flake.
>>2506469
this guy's right, quality would be if he had one or two quality quests instead of like seven quests spastically updating
>>

>>
>>2506383
>Damn shame though, this was basically the only Teen Titans quest I've liked so far.
Mind elaborating why?
>>
>>2506084
The JoJo quest seems pretty good to play even though it's going a bit off rails to the original plot. Did the QM say when he would get back from hiatus?
>>
>>2506714
It's been quite awhile, so I don't recall every reason, and, I doubt I've read all of them, but part of it is things not getting too dark, even when they were dark.

Also, there wasn't rampant toxic Raven waifuing. That really turned me off the last one I recall reading and I'm glad people were reasonable and courteous about things in this one.
>>
>>2507605
Fat load of good that did us.
>>
>>2507614
What, the waifuing? Yeah, it's kinda moot at this point, but at least I could read comments without going MAXIMUM SALT over my shipping.
>>
So does this happen often with som? What is this guy anyways, I'm new to this sort of thing and qst in general.

I am very confused and rather disappointed right now.
>>
>>2507696
Dunno about the guy, but running quests is actually surprisingly stressful and it's easy for QMs to burn out.

I have run a weekly tabletop game for years but I just can't deal with running a quest. I've tried five times and there is a lot of pressure that I can't really explain. It shouldn't be different from being a regular GM, but it is.
>>
>>2507756
True, these things are surprisingly stressful. Maybe from the lack of feedback and constantly shifting player base and constraining medium. But saying that you're burnt out and need to take a break is one thing, saying "it all blew up and you died lul" and disappearing is just plain rude.
>>
>>2507803
no argument there, that's a shit move no matter how you slice it. we're all here spending our spare time to have fun together, there are infinitely better ways to tell people that you don't want to anymore
>>
>>2507803
Yeah, that's what I have issue with. Taking a break or quitting is disappointing but understandable, nuking the quest and laughing at your players on the way out with no explanation is just a dick move.
>>
>>2507696
Yes, SOM is a huge piece of shit who destroys his quests when he gets tired of him or his players manage to break from his railroading.

>>
>>2508264
In theory, sure, but buying-in to a new setting is always going to take more mental bandwidth. Original or derivative works can both be perfectly enjoyable, but your premise and writing will have to be stronger to make up for that buy-in gap.
>>
>>2508394
>>2508291
I have some ideas for a quest. The new one that just came up isn't mine, but I figure it's probably related to this thread.
>>
If anyone was wondering, Som got asked on Twitter if it was true he was the one running Teen Titans Quest and pulled a Rocks Fall/Everyone Dies end to it

He replied no. Don't know his twittering habits enough to know how much to believe him, but there you go.
>>
>>2510368
I believe him, largely on the basis that looking back, my sense is that MoG was never trying to be deceptive. There were warning signs though, instances where he would wrap up a story thread abruptly instead of just pausing to continue for another night (for instance, Donna's initiation). I can see that as an indication of dissatisfaction, either with writing, pacing, or the aforementioned three main suspects: anxiety, depression, or frustration.
>>
>>2510515
>>2510368
I have to agree that this probably had nothing to do with som. It seems like MoG was already feeling pretty unmotivated and while som has done this once before, it was more in just a good humored reveal and just continued the quest afterwards. Plus he's usually pretty straight forward about dropping a quest or killing off the mc, I don't see him being afraid of people being mad at him at this point. Plus, it IS about time for summer vacation, so sominus likely won't even be the only QM we see pop back up in the next few weeks as school is ending. However, I do wish MoG would have at least said something instead of just disappearing, I'm still hoping he does but it's not likely at this point.
>>
>>2510573
Maybe, maybe not. But he hasn't nuked his twitter account. I have alerts set for the purpose of catching new threads. I think I'll keep them on, in case he pops his head up. I recommend anyone else who hopes this game might one day see a resurrection do the same.
>>
Oh, another tidbit. A while back someone posted a screenshot of a discord where MoG apparently was. So in theory someone in this channel might be able to find that point of contact, even if MoG is currently stepping away from the internet fully.
>>
>>2510515
>>2510627
Som and MoG are one in the same. The fact that he ended this with a pit and his twitter started talking about picking up DBQ again immediately after is enough to incriminate him.
>>
>>2511385
I don't know that that's enough to convince me personally, but we'll see.
>>
>>2510573
>while som has done this once before, it was more in just a good humored reveal and just continued the quest afterwards. Plus he's usually pretty straight forward about dropping a quest or killing off the mc, I don't see him being afraid of people being mad at him at this point.

One, the only quest he has ever ended with any dignity was DBZ quest, (the one with Kaguya as the protagonist) and that was after he did the aforementioned 'good humored' nuking in DBZ quest that he later rescinded.

Two, every other quest he's ever done has actually had the MC meet their demise in an unfair sudden manner. His first Saiyan quest, his first Avatar quest, his earthbender quest, his Star wars quest, and possibly more that I'm unaware of.

Three. He wouldn't be afraid of doing with a name he's already ruined, but It's very possible that he wants to put forth the idea the he doesn't use other alias's so that people won't be so paranoid when he tries it next. MoG is SoM and you should keep your eyes out for his next 'side project' when he stops running Dragonball quest again.

>>2510603
Let me put it this way, if MoG, whoever he is had ANY respect for you, or me, or all the other anons he wouldn't have just 'rocks fall I'm out radio silence go-fuck-yourself'd us like he did. I'm sorry to have to say it anon, but he stabbed you in the back. You shouldn't respect him. If you want a ressurection you'll have to do it yourself or hope someone else does. People who drop quests like this don't pick them back up.

>>2511385
Absolutely. I don't care what he says this whole scenario has his pattern written all over it, and the timing seals it for me.
>>
>>2514199
Maybe. I suppose I'm particularly merciful because I've fucked shit up before due to anxiety, depression and frustration.
