Your name is Barnaby Campbell and you're having a hell of a time so far today. It started like most days in your life. Get up, go to Winslow, get the shit kicked out of you for speaking "like some sort of rich fuck or something." Get what little shit is left kicked out of you for not paying your dues to Declan (head of the school's little Empire problem) and then scurry around out of sight while you try to avoid any other mishaps for the rest of the day.
Unfortunately your premier hiding spot (the roof) appears to have been taken already by a particularly sad looking girl from the year below you, so that's out.
What on earth was your plan?

>>You went and hid in one of the bathroom stalls whenever not in class, risky due to their isolation, but none of your tormentors have classes on the top floor so if you go in those you should be safe. +1 Agility
>>Stick within earshot of the teacher's lounge, shouting for help might make you look bad but it's better than the alternative.+1 Int
>>Fuck it, strength in numbers. Plus the roof usually works. +1 Cha
>>You have a spotless record, good grades and a pocket knife. Plus your tormentors have known gang affiliations. If you spin it as self defence you should get off with a couple days suspension at most. +1 Will
>>
Just before anyone posts I should probably state that these next few choices will mostly be character creation. after this starting bit I'll be able to take write-ins and have a some longer posts.

If you have a plan for that and people vote for it then sure, but it will most likely be difficult. Being a sixteen year old.
make no mistake however, this is your adventure. it's just a bit easier to write for me if there are already some villains to play around with rather than having to come up with too many OCs with new power sets and stuff.

Hiding from Declan and his thugs is always an option, but the problem with that is what happens when he finds you. Staying near the teachers was far less risky and much easier than picking a good enough hiding spot.
And so that's precisely what you did for the day, Luckily you didn't have to do it all the time, just when Declan was out of class, and having memorised his schedule a few weeks ago, it's easy enough to follow Mr Gladly around during lunch and shoot the shit. He's one of those teachers that tries really hard to be "cool", but he is actually pretty easy to talk with once you establish a higher level of communication.
He's still a bit awkward though.

Eventually the abattoir of the mind that is Winslow High opens it's gates, bringing forth a new set of problems for you. It's almost four o'clock. Father is home, and most likely not sober enough to be nice. You'd much prefer if he worked days instead of nights.

Guess it's time to?
>>go to your usual haunt, the old chemical plant near the docks. It shut down a while ago and the Hobo's are too scared to live in it. You've set up an old couch there, and it has power so you can charge your phone and use the 4G to shitpost.
>>Take a walk down the boardwalk. maybe see some superheroes on patrol.
>>Wander through the ship graveyard, you found some of L33T's old tinkertech scrap there once and sold it for almost a hundred bucks.

From where you are now, it's easy to say that perhaps coming here was a poor choice. Hindsight is twenty twenty and all that. Perhaps entering the one part of the city frequented by all three major gangs was a silly idea, perhaps it would have been better to chill out somewhere or just go home.
The gentleman currently dragging you by the legs into what appears to be a rather ghetto operating room says something kind of like that, or at least you assume he does given that your ears don't seem to work alongside the rest of your body.
Sedatives are a bitch.

And now for a history lesson, or perhaps local politics. The ABB or Azn Bad Boys, are one of the three major gangs in the city of Brockton Bay. They are led by two parahumans, Lung and Oni Lee both of which are hideously powerful in their own special ways. They mostly make their money, at least according to a documentary you watched some time ago, through the selling of Heroin, prostitutes and body parts to buyers both domestic and foreign.

You dimly register being pushed onto a table and roughly secured, restraints going taught around your ankles and wrists as a man shaped silhouette ushers another out of the room, before adjusting the table you're on until it fits some strange criteria. It is at this point that your body begins to oust the sedatives from your system.
"--king hell, whoever grabbed you had a good eye. those teeth alone are going to be worth a mint."
You are shocked into consciousness proper a few moments later, when the first incision is made.
"Ah he's awake, someone get me the nitrous oxide."
You giggle softly to yourself as the man above carves away at your body.

You awaken with a grin on your face, laughing gas still being pumped into your body as the surgeon from before steps out, lighting up a cigarette as he goes.
You wait until he leaves the room, then frantically check yourself over for damage, finding to your dismay that he has removed your right arm.
Your remaining limbs are still chained to the table, but the lack of arm does give you some more room to manoeuvre.

You kind of expected that to be difficult, the restraints are made of thick material and are chained to the table. while you do have some trouble with your feet, your remaining arm just sort of slips out of the manacle.

You take your shoes off as quickly as you can, and as you'd suspected your foot also comes out rather easily.
Less comforting of a thought is the feeling of your bones shifting as you slip out of your restraints.

[Shard Function discovered: Flexibility]

You now find yourself in a bit of a pickle however. You have no idea how many other gangsters are in the building, and flexibility while useful, won't help against a dozen men with guns.
The realisation almost wipes the smile off your face.
"Oh Shit, Oh Holy Fucking Shit."
After a brief second of panicked muttering to yourself, your eyes meander over to a cooler near the operating table, chemicals and surgical gear strewn across the top.
And the [NEED] hits you like a ton of bricks.

Oh man, this is fucked.

>>Finish putting your arm back on? Y/N?

The room consists of a lot of freezers and two man sized tables, with all sorts of surgery equipment and chemicals.
The surgeon from earlier is going to be back any minute. and you might be going nuts.

Well the bastard who's shoddy work you now find yourself fixing will be back soon, so you should probably finish up fast. After about a minute you curl your fingers experimentally, arm now satisfactorily attached to your torso, just in time for mister cutty to come back through the door and let out a gasp of surprise as you stare at him over your shoulder.

A second passes until you both start to move, and boy do you fucking move. By the time he's pulled out his gun, you already have a scalpel lodged in his collarbone just a bit below the artery. A quick jiggle rectifies your error and causes him to fall to the ground, blood spraying from his neck.

Ah, you may have just killed him.
[-1 Karma]
>>how do you take that?

You pull his body back into the room and ponder on your options, somewhat bothered by how not-bothered you are by this man's death.
It's fucked up, and even kind of funny. You're giggling again.

After another brief moment of panic, during which your giggling escalates into full blown belly laughs, you decide that the window will most likely make the best way down, and it's time for you to go home, de-stress and think all this bullshit through.

Once again your newfound abilities come into play here, allowing you to swiftly make your way out the window and down to the ground, at first you were somewhat startled by the two storey drop.
But it appears that you're as good at landings as you are sewing.

You curl into a ball as you hit the ground, and roll several times before bouncing back to your feet a second later.

Now you need somewhere to chill and think this through, It's dark out but you don't know whether Father will be at work by now.

>>Take a chance, It'd be nice to see Mom as well. She'll be worried.

Your mind is made up almost before you get there, if you tell her you have powers she'll worry. that'll annoy Father and she'll get hurt again. Then they'll both force you into the PRT, Father'll do it for the money and mom will do it to keep you safe. You can't make that choice yet, what if they find out you killed that guy? It's too risky.

The door opens and Mike's there. Mike is your little brother. He's four years younger than you and thinks you're the absolute coolest. He also looks more like your mom, something you've always been a bit jealous of to be fair. Round features compared to your thin and long face.

"You're late bro, what took you so long? Come on, mom made spaghetti."
He waves you in before bringing you into the kitchen "She's asleep upstairs, I got her to calm down but she'll probably be mad in the morning."

Oh fuck.
You sit down and let out a long breath, finally able to relax. "Thanks man, for covering for me. You know what time it is?"
He just points to the clock on the wall, Showing 10:30.

"You should probably go grab a shirt dude or you'll get spag-bol all down yourself. And what's with the creeper smile?"

That actually does wipe the smile off your face, unfortunately you have to make a conscious effort to keep it there. "Oh it's nothing man, it's really stupid. You probably wouldn't even think it was funny."
He shrugs as if to say "fair enough."

"I gotta head to bed, see you tomorrow bro." he yawns and stands up, headed towards his room.

"Yeah see you then."

The house is a fairly simple affair, two stories with three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen/dining room. All perfectly maintained and cleaned. it seems nice enough from the outside. Your room is downstairs, and is the smallest of the three, with just enough space for your bed and an old TV.
One microwaved bowl of spaghetti later and you're stood in front of your mirror, poking at your face.
As far as you can tell, it seems like your scary-ass serial killer smile has become your body's new default expression, you can still make other faces, it just takes a bit of effort.
Also your arm seems to still be properly attached, so that's cool.

You sit on your bed, and eventually sleep takes you.

And so you spin a tale of panicked screams, and desperate flight from Rowdy Oriental Youths culminating in your daring escape by way of dumpstering yourself after passing a corner. Truly your inspired oratory and masterfully woven narrative pulls not only the wool, but several other fabrics over the eyes of your mother and brother.
"So how'd you lose your shirt?"
Fuck you Mike.
"Oh It was all gross after jumping in the trash so I left it there, luckily my pant's weren't that bad."

And with that final statement, your safety from your mother's wrath is assured. The much lesser admission of ruined shirt serving as an admirable distraction from the truth.
The rest of breakfast passes with only a minor scolding, and a reminder that mom bought you that phone for a reason dammit. Use it to call someone next time.

Joe's junkyard is a treasure trove, it always was. The way it worked was fairly simple, he'd charge you to go in and then he'd weigh whatever you couldn't sneak past him, charging you again by the kilogram. It was practically extortion but sometimes you'd find something really worth going in for, like a carburettor or some old tinkertech. It's like the lottery, but with busted cars.

At about midday you find yourself picking through old car wrecks and clambering through junk piles in search of chromium and nickel.
You barely even have enough change to get the bus home, but four kilos worth of metal isn't to be sneezed at. It's even kind of therapeutic, finding more of what you need gives you a hell of an endorphin rush.
You don't exactly know what you need it for yet, but you reckon it's gonna be pretty cool when you have enough.

Eventually you leave with a fair chunk of scrap in your backpack and with substantially emptier pockets than when you went in, Joe counting his new cash behind you.

Of course you can't take this home, Father will be in by now. And he will ask Questions.

The old chemical plant used to belong to the same guys in charge of Medhall, some big pharmaceutical company based near the Boardwalk, but they sold it off a couple years back and it never ended up actually being used for anything or even being torn down. As far as you can tell it now exists in some sort of fucked up Limbo where nobody actually owns it but it can't be torn down.
The plant itself consists of three buildings. The warehouse, which is where you set up your couch. The factory floor, which kills approximately twenty homeless people a year from falling in the vats of weird chemicals. And the managerial office, which got trashed in a three way fight between Squealer(A Mad Max villain complete with crazy explosive muscle cars), Hookwolf(a guy made of chainsaws) and Oni Lee(who is a teleporting cloner with a bomb vest)

So that place is SUPER fucked.

Luckily you have a really nice sofa in the warehouse, and more importantly the only key. You took it from what remains of the foreman's office when you first came through here and decided to make it your own.

So yeah, time to knuckle down and build some shit.
Ideas Swirl and churn unending.
[Tinkering Tutorial]
So it works kinda like this, unless you specifically want to build something, you roll a d20, and I consult my list of random gadgets. These will rarely be as cool as something you actually plan on making, and will rely less on your speciality in order to function.
In addition, you choose a single way in which what you create is superior to a non tinker version of whatever you create.

Several hours of work later, you step back from your scavenged tools and breathe deeply, the oppressive pang in the back of your head sated, at least for now.
It looks kind of like a sausage machine fucked a DVD player. Although that may have something to do with the old (and broken) DVD player you built it out of.
As far as you can tell, metal goes in the top and some weird alloy comes out the bottom in thin sheets, roughly a quarter inch thick in the centre and about the size of a playing card, with a sharp edge.

After a bit of testing, you discover that holy shit is this stuff great, it's tough sharp and pretty heat resistant. The (admittedly old and shitty) welder you have can't melt or warp it, even after like ten minutes.

Huh, nice.

It's pretty late.
You have ten Inconel cards.

Normally this is the point where you'd go home, but you still need to test out your other powers. This is way too cool to put off.
And to think all you had to do was be abducted and almost dissected in order to have the super powers you always wanted.

After a few seconds of moping, you quickly set about trying to figure out exactly what your powers actually are. You know that you're flexible enough to deform your bones and escape handcuffs but it still comes as a bit of a surprise when you bend more than ninety degrees backwards. The effortless
forward somersault back to a standing position is just the icing on the cake and you swiftly find yourself cartwheeling around the room, even juggling your incredibly sharp alloy cards at one point.

You don't seem to be any stronger but you were never exactly weak for your age either, you were just coming up against guys for whom violence(and lifting) came naturally.
After cutting yourself with your pocket knife a few times you come to the conclusion that you are in no way super durable. Just regular skin and muscle.

Your investigations are interrupted by a sound, someone is fiddling with the door handle to the warehouse.

Shit, plan?

Honestly despite the scare you got this might not be too bad, it could just be a couple of inquisitive hobos or some dumb kids looking for a place to chill.

You pull a scarf up around your face before you pull the blinds, mostly expecting some scraggly homeless guy on the other side.

Certainly not Rune and Stormtiger knocking on the door.

Fuck, you should have been more careful. Tinkers are always in high demand due to how bullshit they can be, and a shitload of sudden power draw into a previously abandoned location does seem like a bit of a tip off once you think of it a bit.

[Rune, A telekinetic Villain working with Empire 88]
[Stormtiger, an aerokinetic Villain working with Empire 88]
[Empire 88, one of the three main Villain gangs in the City. Neo Nazis]

Rune waves to you as you close the blinds.

Not to worry, there are back doors, and you're fast as fuck. you quickly grab your weird tinker thing(you're gonna have to name it at some point) and sprint to the back, opening the door just in time to hear the front door burst open and for a deep, Swedish accent to ring out through the warehouse.
"Come on boy, let's not make this difficult. Come quietly and you can be assured a place of honour within our ranks."

You're just about to hurl yourself into the bay, you reckon that they can't track you through tides this dark and, stormtiger can't control water.
Unfortunately this plan requires you to get into the water first, and a split second of hesitation has you being blown backwards towards the door you just opened by gale force winds.
You twist your body as you're pulled away from the water's edge, allowing you to stay on your feet but you drop your machine from the shock. Metal parts clashing against the concrete flooring.

Stormtiger is standing at the back entrance to the warehouse, silhouetted against the light coming from within as he watches you back slowly towards the jetty. He is shirtless, with a metal tiger mask on his face and chains around his forearms.

"Really now? You seem much less protective of that tech than most tinkers I've met. Now how about we have a quick talk you and I. I'm sure that you're a smart kid, you can see where this is going. Why not-"

His speech is interrupted by a voice calling from above who you can only assume is Rune.
"Protectorate's almost here boss, we gotta do this quick."

His cocky smile turns into a grimace of irritation as he stops still for a second, then hunches forwards into a boxer's stance.
"Fuck it... just give up kid. You're coming with me."

Stormtiger pushes forwards with a small cyclone, moving faster than any normal man. But you're just a little bit faster. You extend your arm like a whip, and three terribly sharp metal sheets fly almost faster than the human eye can see. The first is deflected with a blast of air while the second coils around the Nazi's body, pulled into the cyclone just behind him. The last "Card" actually loops around his raised arms and air blasts, nimbly dodging all his attempts to stop it before burying itself deep into his collarbone.

"FUCKING TINKERS!"

Stormtiger staggers from the impact, hand coming up to put pressure on the wound. It's not bleeding that badly, but you can only imagine it's rather painful, the card having sheared through flesh and bone. He's close now though, and while he's hurt. He doesn't look to be slowing down.

Stormtiger lurches forwards, claws of air rotating at thousands of miles an hour around his fingertips as he reaches for your face, clearly wanting to end this fight as soon as possible.
The knife comes up.
It's a simple thing, stainless steel with a rubber grip. But in your hands it is an artist's brush. You tear at his face and chest, puncturing both lungs and ripping a massive slash across his face in a single beautiful movement then stepping back as your scarf is ripped away.
The last things that stormtiger perceives before his makeshift lobotomy.

It all started off so well, that was the kicker. Your man in the power grid reports a surge and you send your most personable pair to go and retrieve the new Tinker. If they're an undesirable then Stormtiger kills them and drops the body in the bay, it was all going to be so easy.
But now Stormtiger is in PRT custody, and from what your informants say he is now a dribbling idiot, this will cost you greatly to fix.
You'll have to break him out of course, It would not do to let a man languish in the care of the so called heroes when he could be healed up and sent back to work.
But you receive the intended message from this loud and clear.
"I am more trouble than you need right now. Leave me alone."

Even now your contacts in Europe funnel resources and parahumans to your new Empire, Soon it will not be so difficult to force this new cape into the fold, let your enemies tire themselves against an unknown, You are destined for greater things.
Your preparations are too thorough for this to be anything more than a minor setback.

Interlude Ends
Famous last words.

A new day dawns on Brockton Bay, and our good friend Barnaby awakes to a quiet house on a Sunday Morning, once more you have no actual restrictions on what to do today beyond your lack of funds, an issue which is swiftly becoming pressing.
You start the day by pulling on some clothes and pondering your plans over breakfast, as well as the events of the previous night.
Your machine still functions, you test it with some of your leftover scrap and it seems to convert any kind of metal into that weird alloy.
You currently have it hidden at the back of your closet.

You have eleven "cards".
You have your pocket knife.

And now the great question, what are you even going to do with these powers? You've already fought a supervillain, so that kind of makes you a hero you guess.
But you might not qualify for heroic status, for... knife reasons.

>>You need money right, why not beat up criminals and nick their shit?
>>You could come up with some stuff to rob a bank, everyone probably already thinks you're a villain so why not at least get some money out of it?

Shit, we're joining the Protectorate? They have a dude we just lobomized in custody. Also PRT refers to the Parahuman Response Team, which is the task force composed of non-capes.
>>
>>2527524
the two are kinda interchangeable in common parlance, like how people who aren't really knowledgeable about it might mix up the FBI and NSA.
>>
After the events of yesterday you come to a rather quick conclusion, being on your own is scary as shit and really hard. If Stormtiger had backup with him (that wasn't distracted by the protectorate) you might not have made it out, especially as you haven't actually got the money to really build anything.

In the end you decide to check out the Protectorate, they get all sorts of stuff for capes to join up, and even if you don't want to actually join the Protectorate proper there's gotta be other options. You remember something about a cape in Boston, who's supposed to be an affiliated hero or something. I mean sure they might try to arrest you for cutting that guy's frontal lobe out with a pocket knife, but that was a pretty clear cut case of self defence so hey whatever.

You have to borrow some money from your brother in order to have enough for a bus both ways, but after an hour or so you find yourself standing in front of the PRT office for Brockton. Not the Rig, where all the actual capes hang out. But the place where people can go in and ask questions or report crimes.

You almost just walk straight on in, then you start thinking straight and decide to call in instead, you get a passer by to lend you some quarters for a payphone and swiftly dial the hotline.

It takes an almost insultingly long time for your call to be picked up frankly, if you were being assaulted you'd already be dead by now.

"hello this is the PRT East-Northeast, how can I help you?"
You shuffle for a second as you try to figure out what to say, eventually figuring that the direct approach is probably for the best.

"Uh hey, I got superpowers a while ago and I thought I'd call in to ask some questions."

"Oh, well our desk is open 24/7 if you feel comfortable with coming in?"

You let out an uncomfortable laugh as you try to find the most palatable way of saying "Yeah but I scooped a guy's brain out."

"Uh, about that. See i just thought I'd call in to clear something up first. I may have committed... uh self defence, but I don't know whether or not I'm in trouble. I was hoping you could clear that up for me."

There's a short pause before the woman on the other side of the call answers. "Well.. that would depend on how you defended yourself and what the situation was."

"I'm the guy who lobotomised Stormtiger. It was an accident. I promise."

There is an uncomfortably long silence after that.

"Ah. Well I'm afraid tha-"

The line buzzes for a second, and then an entirely different voice comes through the headset. Male and fairly deep, speaking in a clipped tone.
"This is Armsmaster we are tracing your call, please remain where you are. We will be taking you in for questioning."

After maybe a second of stunned silence you drop the phone, pull your scarf up.
Then Run. Armsmaster has a Tinkertech motorbike so you decide to head up onto the roofs, body running on pure instinct as you leap for a nearby fire escape before jumping off, using a nearby lamppost as a trapeze bar and swinging a good ten feet up from the top of the post before grabbing onto a drainage pipe and clambering up to the roof.

You can hear Armsmaster's bike now, the sheer roar of it almost dampening out the sound of the city traffic as it gets inexorably closer. You're laughing, why are you laughing? Not little giggles either, full blown maniacal cackling.

People down on the street are starting to run now.

You have to get to a safe place, somewhere you can hide.

You make up your mind just in time to see him come around the corner on his bike just below you, gleaming blue armour shining and halberd raised high. Your eyes make contact for just a second and then you're gone, sprinting across the rooftops and leaping from building to building.
Unfortunately he's right below you, never falling behind long enough for you to actually lose him. And if you go to the graveyard now he'll just set up a cordon and start searching the are-

You are interrupted by a cable wrapping itself around your ankle mid jump, pulling you backwards and causing you to mistime your next jump. You are sent tumbling down into the streets once again as you curl and roll through the impact. the cable continues to put you off balance however, and your landing is nowhere near as soft as usual.

Damage taken :Minor Ankle and Shoulder bruising.

You turn to cut the cable, but as you do Armsmaster pulls his Motorcycle in about ten feet from you and dismounts, taking the opportunity to press a button on his halberd before taking a guard stance opposite you.

It's okay, you can salvage this situation. you just need to distract the hero with a card while you make your getaway, nothing bad will happen and you will definitely not lobotomise anyone this time. Or at least that was the plan. The important plan. The plan specifically for this moment in time, that will allow you to get away with minimum damage to your personal idol growing up.

Then you threw the card at his arm, hoping for a small nick to distract him, maybe make him flinch. You weren't expecting it to go through his armour.

Armsmaster is currently face down, holding on to the stump of his arm and groaning weakly as blood spews from the colossal, yet strangely smooth incision. And for the life of you, you have no idea how it even happened. One second he was over there, the next second he was uncomfortably close to you. Now you are watching your favourite superhero bleed to death while you hold the cards responsible in each hand.

Armsmaster is dying on the ground in front of you and you're panicking, honestly that kinda should be the expected response. But heroes are meant to help people, a real hero would search for help, or call a doctor. You can help him, you know you can. He has to have supplies on his Bike, Armsmaster has Everything.

But you'll never be a hero now. There's no way anyone will forgive or forget what happened here. So you run.

Witnesses say they couldn't tell whether the unknown Villain was laughing or crying as he fled the scene.

Dauntless had seen a lot in his time as a Hero, he had fought Lung, the Empire and the Merchants. He had seen the darkest depths of human depravity in the stinking mire that was Brockton's slums and ghettos. And in all that time he had noticed certain patterns, a Villain who defeats a Hero usually either sticks around to gloat and rub salt in the wound, or does their damnedest to finish their victim off. In all his time as a Hero, he'd never seen a villain break down into tears and run away. It made him deeply uncomfortable somewhere far in the back of his mind, where he'd relegated things like fear and doubt. And the damn laughter just made it all worse.

And of course Piggot gives him the worst job, standing there in front of the team and explaining how Colin failed. He was sure that it would continue to build resentment on Armsmaster's end of their relationship and that was a problem that grew worse every day.

The rest of the team was there of course, Velocity, Assualt, Battery and Miss Militia all sat around the conference room table, with Dragon's avatar projected onto a stand bolted near the back of the table.

"Director Piggot apologises for her absence, she's in a call with Director Costa-Brown at the moment and cannot attend. And due to Armsmaster being indisposed I'll be giving our report on the Parahuman designated as Manic. With that out of the way, let's begin."

Dauntless pushes a button on his tablet, and their best shot of the cape in question was projected on the board. It was hard to tell the cape's height due to the angle of the picture, but the figure seemed rather thin where clothing didn't fully obscure. The cape was wearing an old green jumper and navy trousers, along with a beanie hat and long purple scarf that served to hide it's identity.
"The subject is about six foot one and male, any other features are obscured by clothing however he does after playback, appear to have Blonde hair, his beanie slips partway during the chase. We first became aware of this cape yesterday when myself and velocity went to investigate an unusual power grid draw from the dilapidated ACE Chemicals plant near the northern docks, believing it to be a newly triggered Tinker. There we met Rune and were engaged in combat until she escaped, when searching the area we then found Stormtiger, who had several lacerations we now know to be consistent with Manic's Cards, and who upon further examination had been lobotomised with a short blade, most likely a pocket knife. We then took him into custody."

The other heroes are visibly uncomfortable at this point, Miss Militia rubbing the side of her head and Assualt holding Battery's hand under the table.

"Manic claims to have lobotomised Stormtiger in self defence, an unlikely claim but potentially true given what we know of his powers. We know this because seven hours ago, Manic confessed to this action on the PRT Hotline shortly before his altercation with Armsmaster."

Velocity pipes up now, finger drumming on the table. "Wait wait wait, how the hell do you cut someone's brain open and remove a specific part without harming the rest of it while the other guy fights back, that's bullshit."

Dauntless sighs and flicks to another slide before answering the question, this slide showing Manic performing a backflip off of a lamp post onto a rooftop. "In addition to his cards and sheer speed, Manic seems to exhibit greatly increased physical dexterity and extremely precise movements. One of our thinkers up in Boston reckons that technically a baseline human could do it, it would just have a ninety nine percent failure rate."

He clears his throat before continuing.
"After Armsmaster's demand for him to stand down he ran, engaging Armsmaster in a short chase along the rooftops. After being forced to the ground he then removed Armsmaster's right arm with one of his cards, playback shows him using it like a knife. He then appeared to panic for a couple of seconds before fleeing he scene. Apparently he was rather distraught. He has been provisionally rated as a Mover 3 for his speed and gymnastic ability, which seem to be slightly above Olympic level, Thinker 3 for his reflexes and Tinker 6 for his cards, which I shall now explain the reasoning for. We have been unable to recover any of these devices due to Manic recovering them, however we have examined the wounds caused by them and discovered that they somehow sever the chemical bonds of whatever they hit through an exotic chemical reaction. The exact Composition is unknown. The Cards themselves are mundane, made of a rare but not unknown alloy called Inconel 939, an experimental superalloy used in manufacturing to resist truly extreme heat and chemical reactions."

"The Wards are not to engage with him, and whenever spotted should call for protectorate backup."

"Any Questions?"

Here you go.
>>
>>2528122

They're power classifications. Tinkers are guys who're great at making tech with some sort of specification, for example one in the story is able to make super powerful explosives while another does biological horror monsters.

Thinkers are supers that have more brain-based abilities that enhance thinking and senses. An example of this is one in the story has the power to literally see the path to victory.

And Movers are those who's powers are based in movement, momentum, transportation and all that. So someone who can fly, has superspeed or can jump extremely high are Movers
>>
>>2528122
they are the classifications for powers used by the government. Mover powers are powers like flight or super speed
Tinker powers are people who build shit I:E Iron man
Thinker is mental powers that don't affect others. super reflexes or precognition, seeing the future etc.

The numbers are ratings stating what is recommended to beat that power.
3 is a squad of trained soldiers or law enforcement.
6 is "You need at least one superhero.

10 is "Bring EVERYONE"

To be fair, the very fact that we called to ask about it might make them give us the benefit of the doubt if we're caught.

Or they'll think we're insane, which unfortunately seems much more likely.

Crit Tinker Bonus: Iconic Item
It's about four in the afternoon by the time you're finished with your newest creation.

[Trickster's Boots]
These are a pair of very nice Snakeskin dress shoes that you found in an old yacht, they have since been reinforced with steel tips and a small thruster on the bottom of their soles allowing you to jump much higher, or even perform rapid manoeuvring in the air, they are powered by kinetic energy dynamos in the heels allowing them to build up charge when walking. They also

"Hey, is that who I think it is?" gallant takes a step back as the group turn to face your direction.

The new guy backs away from you while the others step in and take a loose formation around your stall.

It is at this moment that you make your displeasure known. "Oh come the fuck on, I spent five bucks here, I am OWED some peace and quiet."
You look around at the gathered heroes, taking formations and posturing.
"I guess I'll take my business elsewhere then."
And you boot clockblocker in the face just before activating the thrusters, the repulsor blast sending you flying through the window and out into the street, ravioli perfectly balanced atop your plate.
Clockblocker is sent flying back into his teammates, but you can't keep your eyes on him for long as a moment later Aegis and Gallant burst through the restaurant doors, while Kid Win takes aim at you through the window.
You can see Clockblocker out cold on the table, and Vista seemingly frozen mid hand gesture.

Eating ravioli sans fork is difficult. Eating ravioli sans fork while parkouring harder than any man has ever parkour-ed before and dodging lasers is even harder, but somehow you manage to do it without ruining your scarf.

We called in saying we were a fresh cape and we're worried we fucked up. They did absolutely nothing to assuage that fear and we justifiably ran and were attacked.

Maybe instead of trying to immediately capture us they could have tried talking us down? Plus don't most capes get their powers when they're young? Shouldn't they know that?

ALRIGHT, THIS IS IT.
Your chance to show the world how heroic you can truly be. you have some sexy shoes, and you're ready to kick ass. The PRT may not call you a Hero, but the best revenge is a good life and it's time to prove them wrong.
And maybe also loot some money.

You spend some time walking the mean streets, Gang members and capes are suspiciously absent, you even go pretty far into Empire territory without seeing any actual gang members.

Might as well head to the boardwalk then, see if anything's going on there.

And then you turn the corner onto Main Street.
The entire cape rosters of the Protectorate, New Wave and Empire 88 are on opposite sides of the street, the PRT affiliates with their backs to what appears to be a prisoner transport van, while the Empire capes are on the other side of the street.
And then there's you, smack bang in the middle.

Oh hey, Armsmaster's back. Good to see him up and about.
Hey do you think he has a robot arm?

The two sides pause in their posturing as they begin to recognise your presence.

And so you sit down, and order lunch, a Bagel BLT and a coke. then you get ready to watch the sparks fly.

"Hey L33T!"
"What"
The older of the two pokes his head around the door, a wide grin of excitement on his face.
"Dude you have to see this."

"And they're off! The two opposing sides crash together, lasers and containment foam and bullets just going absolutely everywhere it's a tremendous sight watching these wonderful experienced capes work. And very informative too, for example if you take a look at the back there you'll see that Victor has a rather amusing habit of forgetting when he's surrounded, I expect it might be all the snipers he's vampired giving him tunnel vision or something. See look , there's Our Lady Of Collatoral Damage behind him and OH MY GOD THE STONE COLD STUNNER FROM BEHIND, SOMEBODY CALL OTHALA COS' HE'S NOT GETTING UP OTHERWISE."

About a minute in you had a great idea, and so far it seems to be working, the internet loves you, at least so far.

"Armsmaster, the FUCKING NEERD, Coming up now to challenge Menja... or is it fenja? I dunno but it's not going OOOHH, that was a nasty spike from Kaiser. Looks like he doesn't appreciate when you get handsy with his girls although to be fair, does he really need both of them? I don't think so. Ah there we have Alabaster, nice suit that, shame about the person in it. He's headed up to Dauntless and... yeah that's what we all expected really i think. Hope he lands somewhere nice. If you Look up now you'll see Photon Milf and the
Racist Semen Demon battling it out in the skies, what is it about large breasted women and flying laser Fights that go together so well. I'll answer that, it's the Jiggle-physics hahaha. Aw man this is good shit. Ah, Alabaster's back folks and this time he looks mad. wonder how he'll die this time."

It is at this moment that a somewhat intoxicated man interjects. "I've got twenty bucks that say he's collateral from Kaiser or Hookwolf."

"I'm pretty sure that's cheating, everything is collateral to Hookwolf."

"I think It's winding down folks, Looks like the Empire have Stormtiger free and that's their objective, now they just have to make it out of here."

I can agree with that, which is why i want more than just one kind of mind altering gas.
One application of our molecule manipulation is a Mega-glue we could use that for all sorts of plans.
>>
>>2529860
OP called it mediocre, but I'm pretty sure he was just saying that so anons could feel proud they were effortlessly beating top capes with only an average power. Pretty sure the fact that we can make notAdamantium puts us near or at the top, not to mention our physical abilities.
>>

>>

>I just have a really terrible feeling about some shit that's just a joke item getting spammed non-stop.
I agree, which is why i want to make tons of joke weapons so we don't end up just spamming one or going the boring route of just using generic cape gadgets.
What about inconspicuous toy robots that are also bombs? like nutcrackers?
>>
Crit tinkering, let's fucking go.
You pull together as much of your old clothing as you can, rendering it down to the constituent atoms. by making some minor changes to the molecule manipulators in your card printer you allow it to create a fabric consisting of extremely small patches of Inconel. You then change the output so that instead of printing uniform cards, it prints sheets that are then layered and cut into specific shapes. this allows a much more versatile (and also larger scale) set of construction orders to be given.

six hours later you have your first 3D printed outfit.
[Madman's Garb]
Modelled after a straitjacket with some minor changes, the torso of this jacket is heavily reinforced with Inconel, making the central covering heavy, but almost indestructible. The straps are used to secure the jacket tightly against the frame of the wearer, spreading the weight throughout the body and making it much easier to move in than it other wise would be.
The arms, while seeming to be simple cloth, are actually reinforced with small powered frames that somewhat magnify the strength of the wielder. not to superhuman levels but to the level of a semi professional weightlifter. The wearer will be significantly stronger than a baseline human civilian.

In addition you have created a full face helmet, modeled after a demented jester, it itself has no special abilities beyond concealing the face of the wearer, but the "Hair" of the jester contains open space for all manner of future upgrades.
>>
>>2529938

I kinda wanna go a mix of both joke weapons and some regular tinker gadgets since shit nothing wrong with just having a couple of simple things to go with joke weapons.

And toy robot bombs would be pretty good.
>>
>>2529948

>Fine enough, let's just not get too caught up in the toy weapons
That i disagree with, i want to go crazy with the toy weapons, i'm having actual fun coming up with these weapons.
>>
>>2530013

Fair enough, you come up with toy weapons for fun times and I'll come up with some other ways that we can apply this molecule manipulating tinker fun, and probably some ways of how to copy some other capes abilities using our tech. Deal?
>>
>>2530027
Deal.

Gonna make a list so i can keep track of my ideas.
>Laughing Gas! Fear Gas! All kinds of Gasses to effect people in weird ways!
>Lupin III gadgets to evade capture/restrictions.
>Pocket dust.
>Various liquids.
>Water guns for our liquids.
>Toy bombs.
>Toy BANG! pistol, looks exactly like a real one we have so we can switch between them.
>Toy boxing glove that is also a power fist.
>Joy Buzzer that can switch between harmless and high voltage.
>>
>>2530063
One more.
>Singular/Bouquet of squirt flowers that squirt our liquids.
>>

>Not having fire flowers

Not having a 'surprise slingshot' which shoots pellets full of surprises(like ground glass and failed toxic tinker substances) and custom grenades.

Not having a missile launcher which goes shoots out a flag that says 'bang' which is a cover for the fact that the missile launcher IS the missile before it shoots off.

Not having Borderlands 2 explosive tediore guns.

Not attaching our strange metal creator to a gun and feeding it junk to shoot bullets.

Not creating a toy cupid crossbow with customizable bolts.

Thank you for joining me in making crazy weapons, those are great ideas.

I like the idea of having some decently lethal weapons as a deterrent but when shit is really going down we bust out some serious hardware.

The only kinda neat idea I can think of would be a way to have some kind of gas coming off of our outfit in small amounts so as were fighting or running it's slowly messing with our opponents without being too overt

>The only kinda neat idea I can think of would be a way to have some kind of gas coming off of our outfit in small amounts so as were fighting or running it's slowly messing with our opponents without being too overt
We can have our Jester hair do that. >>2529948
>In addition you have created a full face helmet, modeled after a demented jester, it itself has no special abilities beyond concealing the face of the wearer, but the "Hair" of the jester contains open space for all manner of future upgrades.
Plus just using gas grenades and water guns. There are a bunch of ways we can deliver a biological/chemical payload.
>>
New idea.
Toy teeth that act like bear traps, can have their teeth coated in chemicals or made into bombs.
>>
>>2530158
Oh I know there are easier ways but those are a bit more obvious than what I was looking for.

What about jacks that can inject that sea snails toxin that can kill a few grown men?
>>
>>2530285
Good idea, literally just buy a few jacks and dip them in a bottle of toxin or some other chemical.

You have ten Alloy Cards the Trickster's Boots and The Madman's Garb

Your Tinkering comes at a price, almost as soon as you figure out the power needs for your newest upgrade to the Printer You realise that after making this, your power setup (The boat's motor and an old petrol generator welded together into a monstrosity) is gonna give up the ghost, it doesn't have the output necessary to power the Printer efficiently. You make do by converting excess material into fuel, but at the end you had to resort to stripping metal from the walls, melting it with your shitty welder and pouring it into the conversion chamber of the printer. This slowed down your creation massively, and also compromised the structural integrity of your hideout, with several large holes in the walls now.

[Tinkering anything except Cards takes three times as many resources and twice as long until power generation needs are met]

Also all these people want us to use gas as a weapon or a tool, but I would think something like that would cause us to remember the trauma that triggered us in the first place. That's part of the beauty of Worm superpowers: what you get will always remind you of the shit you went through to get them, one way or another.

Also the document about Tinkers that I linked you before is apparently made by the big man Wildbow himself. So all that info on there is literally word of god on Tinkers.

You have the Best Idea.
The first place you hid out was the old chemical plant, you got discovered after patching into the grid and yadda yadda.
You'd have to be an idiot to go back there, which is why it's the perfect hiding place. All you have to do is not use the power grid and boom, totally off the radar, because it's the one place they'd never look.

And then, even if you did get discovered. the whole bloody neighbourhood consists of dilapidated warehouses and factories, any number of which could be swiftly re purposed to serve as a hiding spot.

And you could get your couch back.
After a few hours of lugging your tools back across town and through the suburbs. (they don't get patrolled as much) And then another few hours of setup, you now have a workshop inside of the old warehouse, and a very comfortable couch.
[NEW HIDOUT: ACE Chemicals Complex]
The old ACE chemicals complex consists of three buildings, one of which is now destroyed and will serve as a source of Metal Scrap. You also have the warehouse, which is two storeys tall and large enough to house a workshop, as well as whatever else you may come up with.
You also have easy access to the Old Factory Floor and Vats. Which serve well as a Source of Chemical Reagents.

Hideout: ACE Chemicals.
Ruined admin building.:Source of Metal Scrap.
Old Factory Floor: Source of Chemical Reagents

Current status, dilapidated.
Sleeping arrangements: Barnaby sleeps on a nice couch. Early night bonus is now +2 to all rolls.
Shitty tools: Tinkering is Possible
Homemade Workshop: Tinkering is Possible, Research cannot be done, Project priority is determined by Highest roll. Other people cannot understand Production methodology without Extended study due to lack of written notes.
Availible Upgrades.
Better Tools: Lower Chance of Catastrophic failure.
Organised Workshop: Research now possible.
An Actual Bed: Slower [NEED] buildup at night.
Some locks: Obvious Benefits.

You need to sleep now, it's almost Midnight. and it'd be good to sleep on something soft.

Crit and 16.

Digging through the rubble of the destroyed admin building and the old factory, you find more than enough of what you need on your first go in.
You even find a trolley with several bins and even a corrosion resistant Tub in which you can keep your dangerous chemicals.
You now have 10 Solid Mass Stored in the Workshop.
You now have 20 Chemical Reagents Stored in the Workshop.

After that, you take your old Generator and soup it up a bit. It is no longer recognisable for it's constituent parts, being covered in a frame that mounts it above the Floor in the warehouse, off in the corner. The frame and outer shell make it look distinctly industrial, a slot for cables and a large hopper to pour raw material into, which it then converts into Electrical energy.
It also glows a lovely relaxing blue.

Small Matter Conversion Generator created, some resources from every scavenging run will be put into the generator instead, Larger projects can be started.

It is the evening now, just starting to get dark.

Tools and locks are very important things.

You quickly decide to grab some metal before heading to bed and make some proper locks for the doors and windows. They're just bar locks bolted on, but they'll do the job well enough, At least now you won't have to deal with hobo's just walking into your place. Almost as an afterthought you get to work on your old tools, fixing wear and tear, replacing damaged parts, and even turning your petrol powered welder into an electrical welder, allowing it to be powered by your generator.

It only takes an hour or so to finish off the rest of your tools, some you convert, some your replace entirely. But in the end there's only so much you can do at the moment, especially given how your ideas seem to have quietened down.

So you pop off to bed, and dream of steel.

Thursday: you really need to get a calendar.

You bumble around for a bit in the morning, looking at the news and searching for good fast food places near the industrial district. (It has to be fast food because the protectorate might show up.)
Newswise it seems to have calmed down after The brawl on Tuesday, with no sightings of any gang related capes bar a scuffle between Hellhound(a member of a small time villain gang called the undersiders, they don't even have territory or anything.) and Hookwolf, the living chainsaw.
Funnily enough Hellhound won.
Your stomach rumbles as you get up from your sofa and plan what you're going to do for the day.

Eventually you decide on indian, there's a place not too far from here that does great curries and you can even call in your order before you get there, for if you need to head somewhere else. Pretty much perfect for your needs.

So you call in your order (which is pretty much one of everything.) and wait until you need to head over and grab it.
It's actually pretty nice outside, the sun is shining and there's all sorts of people about, your walk brings you past the Dockworkers Union building at one point. It's an old concrete block, with a sign on the front denoting it's name, though you haven't been past in a while, so it might have changed.

There is also a raging inferno blossoming throughout parts of the building while dockworkers and Empire gang members brutalise each other in the street, inside the building you can hear people screaming for help, occasionally punctuated by gunshots and the sounds of battle.

A tall, heavyset black man is trying to fight Alabaster with a pipe a couple meters in front of you.

Behind him you see several other members of the union trying to fight the fires, and more scrambling through the streets holding weapons.

All in all there's probably a good forty or so on each side, beating at each other with weapons both improvised and regular.

[Alabaster OST: Disturbed, Feel Invincible]

You dash in almost without a second thought, Lamenting the inevitable coldness of your takeout as you deliver (heh) a roundhouse kick to the back of his head.
Alabaster lurches forwards directly into the path of The Dockworker's swing, his head cracking and spraying goo everywhere upon impact with the heavy lead pipe.

You and the Large Black Guy(LBG) step backwards as alabaster falls to the ground fully aware that he'll be back any second.

Soon enough he's back on his feet, almost seeming to teleport into an upright stance as his clothes mend and clean themselves in the blink of an eye.
This might be difficult.

You turn your head as Alabaster twirls his knife, "Don't worry I got this, go help the others."

LBG just nods and turns, that's when it all goes wrong.
Alabaster lunges while you're distracted, stabbing you in the thigh with his knife and yanking it away before pivoting around you and hurling it at your comrade.
So like an idiot, you decide to stick your hand out and try to grab the knife. And for the first time, your enhanced dexterity fails you. You now have a knife stuck in your hand.
Straight through the palm.
"HEHAHAHAHAHEHEEEHHAHAAA"
Okay, so lots of pain equals laughter, probably should have seen that coming
Alabaster knees you in the chest, breaking his own leg in the process, but wounds are temporary for him, and by the time you recover from the pain he's already as spotless as when you first saw him.

"Stormtiger underestimated you but I will not make the same mistake, Fool."
Huh, a nazi that actually sounds German. Or it might be Swiss, kinda hard to tell.
Alabaster slowly walks towards you in a guarded stance, knife glinting in the setting sun. Then his head whips around as a hideous roar sounds from within the Union building.

You lunge forwards, admittedly slightly hampered by your wounds, but still much faster than you have any right to be considering the circumstances.
He steps into your attack and tries to trade hits, but you take off his arms before he can land any serious hits. As you step back however, he lands a serious kick to the hip, it doesn't break anything, but it hurts like a motherfucker and pushes you away from him.

You then Grab him by the leg and swing him towards the Union building. He regenerates halfway through the swing but is unable to recover, ploughing through the main doors and landing next to some sort of hideous rat monster with a large spike of metal clutched in it's hands, possibly a chunk of stairwell or banister.
With which it promptly runs Alabaster through, pinning him to the floor before turning its glowing red eyes to you and with a thousand hellish voices screams into your mind.

There's a few superpowered quests and most of the time the protagonist defaults to an edgy vigilante, which is a very different thing from a superhero. I like the neutral thing we've got going on, maybe we could try to get into mercenary work, however that'd work.

Rolled 19 + 3 (1d20 + 3)

You tense your wounded leg as the Rat thing charges you and kick off away from the building. The new cape (probably a new trigger) holds its hands out sideways as it rushes forwards, the concrete wall next to it elongating into a spear and snapping off with a tug. Then it brings the weapon around and down towards you, blade howling as it crashes into the floor where you were. It's follow-up strikes are dodged using the repulsors on your shoes, firing you up and over the beast as it tries it's hardest to reach you.

Now that it's outside the building, it seems to register the scale of the attack, head sweeping from side to side as it takes it all in.
You can see the LBG and the other normals stop and back away as it walks forwards, heavy footsteps breaking tarmac and bending steel.

Christ it must be at least ten foot tall. Now that you have a moment to rest you can get a better look at it. It seems to be wearing the remnants of whatever it had on before the attack happened, with tattered and burnt rags covering some of it's torso. the bottom half of it's body is covered (thank god) by what remains of it's trousers, dress pants, by the look of things. What isn't covered in the remains of clothing is covered in brown fur, except the head , which is made entirely of bone and sinew. Four massive curling horns complete the look.

It raises it's snout and shouts, so loud that even if the fighting hadn't stopped you still think you might have heard it.

There's silence for a few seconds, the Empire forces are starting to back away now due to the fact that Alabaster still hasn't come out of the building, they've lost cape support and they know it. The dockworkers seem confused and angry more than anything else.

LBG now identified as Kurt, looks up from where he's standing over a skinhead with a knife, pipe raised. "Uh... yeah? Oh shit that's not you Lace?"

The rat lets out a short laugh before hefting it's spear onto it's shoulder and answering. "Nah I don't think she was in today, thank god."
He then points the spear at you, "So whom the fuck is this?"

You're kinda confused, should you tell him your cape name? what if he hears it and is like OH SHIT A VILLAIN.
then you'll have to fight him all over again.
"I uh-"

Kurt interrupts your stammering with a quick "he's cool." before snapping his gaze back down to the skinhead, who had begun to slowly crawl away.

The rat looks at you for a couple of seconds before he laughs sheepishly and twiddles his spear a bit. "Ah, sorry then. you uh.. up for helping us take out the trash?"

A lot of very scared looking Neo nazis are silently begging you to say no with their eyes.

Not really the best idea. Don't want to get our family caught up in this, in the event the gangs, capes, or nazis manage to connect the dots. If we want to sort out the family situation, it might be better to simply go after the father at his workplace. Instill some fear in him.
>>
"I really would, really, but I ordered some takeout earlier and if I don't get to the pickup point in like ten minutes it might not even be there. I'm already taking a risk by helping you guys out, plus I'd just be stealing all your fun. Best you get a bit of practice in before the PRT turns up and calls you a supervillain hahaha. Anywaygottagobuhbye."

You're becoming a master of the high speed goodbye by now, and you turn and grin after a quick jump up to the nearby rooftop, watching for just a second as the uh... you'll call him Rat King. As he smashes into a knot of Empire scum sending them flying into a wall. It's also pretty cool to watch the other dockworkers kick racist ass.
Yeah he'll go far, best of luck to the guy.

[Happy Zappers]
A pair of long white gloves with conductive metals on the outside, snaking around in a spiral pattern. These gloves use the same kinetic energy absorption technology as your shoes, but they put that energy to different use. These gloves build up electrical charge, then discharge upon activation shocking anything they touch hard enough to knock out a fully grown man.
You feel like you could get more out of them with some more tinkering, but these will serve as a proof of concept if nothing else.

You knuckle down, pulling as many parts and tools together as you can. You have too many ideas and no way to prioritise, when tinkering before you just let the fugue take you, but if all this shit keeps up you need to prioritise.
[Coil OST: The Artful Dodger]

You need a way to keep focus somehow, some way of neatly organising your projects. Maybe even keep notes for further experimentation.
[The Soldiers fall almost as soon as they enter the room, cards embedded in their heads and necks.]
Maybe if you steal some other tinkertech that'll give you ideas too.
[The second squad dies screaming, an overcharged glove firing bolts of lightning that turn them to ash.]
Your ideas are pretty useful, but you get the feeling that if you want to improve on them you'll have to actually sit down and spend time brainstorming, so some sort of "research zone" could be made as well.
With beanbag chairs.
[When the Protectorate are called the factory is empty, bar one of Coil's mercenaries strapped to a chair with his mouth twisted into a manic smile. Coil closes the timeline. Not in his lab then.]

[Coil OST ends]

A proper bed would be nice as well, the couch is good, but you keep hearing this weird popping noise whenever you stretch you back too far and it's starting to get chilly.

And so you get to work.

Organised Workshop Completed: Research can now be done and potentially stolen, guard this location well.
An Actual bed Completed:Lower [NEED] buildup while resting.

One thing has been consistent the last few days, whenever you go out in costume, someone tries to kill you, and it's only your quick wits that get you out of trouble. What you need is a civilian guise, something that can keep you protected without giving away who you really are.
BEHOLD, MY MOST SUBTLE CREATION YET.
[Trickster's Garb]
A black waistcoat reinforced with thin sheets of inconite over a dark purple shirt, with lightly reinforced dress trousers of a similar shade. the vest should be stab proof and while you have no problem with your shoes the gloves are very obviously tinkertech, even when not in use, so they'll have to go.
It's most interesting feature is an inertial dampener, modeled based on your understanding of Krieg's power, which you observed a few days previously, a click of your cufflinks, and a small field is generated around you which slows the vibration of molecules, creating a sort of "Molecular resistance field." this makes it much more difficult to move for anyone except you, and also quietens any noise originating within the field. the range is only two feet or so however, and only lasts for about a minute.
It's really hard not to make purple or green materials with your Printer, it might be some kind of glitch. You'll have to deal with it later.
You do make a mask, it covers most of your face, but leaves your mouth uncovered.

By the time you're done it's starting to get dark outside, and you are hungry.

Your tinkering continues for a few minutes, you bind his wounds with copper wire and industrial glue. Cauterising them with the the flat of your knife afterwards, heated using a lighter he had on his person. You continue in a trance until a voice knocks you out of it.

"Ah, I wasn't expecting that." He's staring at you, you panic for a second before you remember that you put your mask on. Fucking close.

He looks to be around fifty or so but he's actually in surprisingly good shape considering. It looks like he's slipped a bit recently though, tired baggy eyes and a pale complexion don't speak well for his health, even outside the wounds. You quietly shuffle the diet plan your other hand had doodled out of sight.

"Looks like my luck finally changed. thanks for the save." He looks around the deserted street before turning his head back to you. "I really didn't expect any help out here, you hero types don't come out here often. And while I really appreciate the effort i'm afraid it was wasted."

"Wasted?"

He stands up as you look at him gobsmacked, he doesn't have cancer or anything, you'd know by now.

"I'm afraid so boy, you see I'm intent on ending my life, particularly so in fact, why else would a man of my stature come here, to such a wretched place."

Now, you're well acquainted with death, certainly not a close friend but you'd use each others first names if you thought the other wasn't listening. And you're having some trouble wrapping your brain around the concept of willingly wanting to die. There are higher priorities though.

"Can I have your stuff then? Seeing as you aren't using it."

He laughs at this, before rummaging through his pockets. "Mercenary eh, I like that. Unfortunately I believe those Unsavoury sorts relieved me of what I had, and I have nothing in the bank. Perhaps if I continue to be so terribly unlucky as to meet you again, no offence meant."

"It's cool, I get it."

Having worked down from your main priority, you find yourself asking the other question on your mind. "Why kill yourself anyway? it seems a bit uh, final."

"That's exactly the point actually, one last action performed with Certainty. If you mean to die, then that means that by definition, your final action is a victory." He goes to check his watch here, but it's gone. "And I could really do with a victory. Medhall took everything, the company, my estate. Everything."

For the first time, he looks actually sad rather than just dour, leaning against the wall. "And in six hours my daughter will die. The only thing I have left, gone because the wonderful Panacea "can't do brains." Bollocks is what I say to that, I reckon the Protectorate won't let her. People are too damn scared of Masters and Mind control, never be too afraid to take a risk boy, never."

The man's story is compelling, and his accent is divine, he sounds a bit like Peter Cushing. and when someone like that asks for help, it's generally best to answer. "Look, sir uh... I don't know your name. But I might be able to save your daughter if we get there in time. I'll admit I'm no neurosurgeon, and it could go wrong." Your eyes meet his."but you did just give me some very good advice."

He's staring at you now, not aghast or shocked like you expected, but calculating instead. "I assume you're not with the Protectorate, I'd have heard of you before now if that was the case. There's no way they'll let you in."

"Then I'll let myself in and find a spare operating room. I'm already in deep water, might as well see what's at the bottom." A quick giggle escapes your lips after that, but your companion gives no indication that he noticed.

"Well of course then, let's get moving. It's only an hour or so on foot. My name is Bradley Higgs, and we're looking for a young woman called Rebecca."

The next hour or so consists of the two of you moving as swiftly as possible towards the Hospital, you having to wait sometimes for Mr Higgs to catch up. he's slower than you, but still pretty spry for his age and you make respectable time for traversing the city on foot. You get the feeling convincing him not to help would be exceedingly hard and waste lots of time.

Of course, both crime and protectorate patrols get more common the closer you are to the boardwalk, and by extension, the hospital. You have more than a few close calls, having to engage in small talk with Miss Militia at one point in passing, you don't think she recognised it was you. Eventually you're there, Brockton General, a huge tower of glass and white brick.

Go in the front, wing it.

Also you'll need a Twitter to notify people when you'll be running, and a pastebin or two with relevant character/world/plot/skill info.

yeah ok, I'll make a new thread. this one must be purged.

I'll post a link when it's up.

Can someone please archive this as Worm:One Bad Day.
"In which our plucky abuse victim gains superpowers, and Nearly kills Armsmaster in session 1."

We'll be right back after these messages

Images are automatically scraped, dipshit. The only thing you have control over is the Name, Descriptions, and Tags.

nevermind, whatever the fuck happened, it got fixed. They weren't coming up on my end, so I thought something broke.

Title should always be Worm: One Bad Day #? (change the number depending on the thread)
Tags should always be Worm, Worm: One Bad Day, Zion, Collective Game, seeing as they were set this way by whoever archived it, and they need to be the same for consistency and tracking.

>when she cannot form any significant attachments to anyone for long at all, and any attachment is perpetually tainted by cold suspicion and paranoia
Isn't that true of anyone with a passenger? Well, unless they keep them very happy.

Yeah, that's about it.

Only thread OPs can do it.
