Far off, nestled in an otherwise small Japanese town lies the Dark Gate Academy. An institution of tremendous size, the Academy holds a long kept secret. Unknown to the outside world, this unseemly town is home to a tear in our reality. A gate between our world and a bizarre dimension known as the Darkworld. The inhabitants of this hellish world breach this gate and attempt to flood into our reality and spread throughout the world on a regular basis. However, the Dark Gate Academy is home to students of truly extraordinary abilities. The ability to sense the presence of these evil Darkworld creatures, and defeat them in combat, sending them back through the gate.

They cannot close the rift between our world and the Darkworld, but the students and staff of Dark Gate Academy have dedicated their lives to using their amazing powers to hold back the darkness that plagues our world, even if it costs them their lives. They have risen up to the challenge and in secret have become great heroic defenders of the world as we know it.

For many years, Dark Gate Academy has held back the forces of the Darkworld, kept this unspeakable evil contained within their walls in secret. But now, with their existence revealed, a great cloud of change looms over Dark Gate Academy.

“I'm not so sure about this, Ryoji...”

You turn your head towards Saki as you sit close to her on the train. You let out a small laugh. “You've said that five times since we got on the train, Sak. Are you really that anxious to see your cousins?”

Saki shakes her head. “No, not at all! It's just... after the battle with Pride, who'll take care of the-”

“Cool it Saki,” you reply. “The agents are doing their clean-up, Maro and Class 3 are running the show, Ken's keeping the class in order, and Class 1 are busy on a little camping trip. Hell, Rei even agreed to look after Wei while she fusses over Isamu in hospital. Don't worry, all the bases are covered. No responsibilities. This is your vacation time.”

“I know...” Saki mutters. “But... maybe we should use this time to visit your parents instead-”

You shake your head. “My parents are out of town. Celebrating their anniversary. They're spending the weekend at a theme park. My mom loves theme parks.”

Saki hangs her head low. “I see...”

You hold Saki a little closer. “You know, if you don't want to visit them, you don't have to. I sure as hell don't feel like I'm missing out.”

“No!” Saki insists. “They aren't all bad... they just like to tease a lot. They're not like my parents... I'm just a little nervous, that's all.”

You smirk. “Well, if they tease you too much I'll let them all know that they're trying to steal my job, okay?”

With a blush and a smile, Saki continues. “I'm also a little concerned about how they'd respond to you. They're my cousins on my moms side, so they can be a little... snooty, I guess.”

“I've dealt with worse,” you shrug. “Besides, they're gonna love me. I'm gonna be all charming and shit, and show how much I already know about them and make one of those great first impressions.”

“But Ryoji...” Saki explains. “You don't know anything about them. Any time I try to tell you, you fall asleep or zone out.”

You pause. “Yeah, well they are pretty boring. Still, I figured that last minute cramming was the way to go, as always. So, fire away.”

Saki giggles. “Okay, if you think you can stay awake. Yokota's the oldest, she's very big sistery, likes to give hugs... Masami is the youngest, she's a little more bookish than the others, then Chigusa...”

You zone out immediately. They just can't hold your attention.

Once Saki realises you're not soaking in the information, she pokes you on the arm. “Ryoji, you lazy delinquent! You really should be more studious! Well... it's too late now, the train is stopping. I'm sure you'll be able to improvise a good first impression... I hope.

You step off of the train as it pulls into the resort town of Zeitakuna, a beautiful small town surrounded by villas and beaches. Feels like you stepped off the train and found yourself not in Japan, but in Spain or Italy.

“Your cousins live here all the time?” you ask.

“Well, they are rich,” Saki replies. “Wouldn't you live here if you had a lot of wealth?”

>Nah, I feel the novelty would be gone real quick. I'd rather keep it simple.

>I don't know... where would you like us to live a few years from now?

"W-what?" Saki blushes.

You smirk. "You know, after we've graduated and planned on settling down and all. Your decision really, you're the one with the cash."

"Settling down..." Saki pauses, thinking it over with a nervous expression. "Well, a place like this would be nice... but my dream is still to become the principal of Dakugeto. So really, all I'd really like is a place that's nice and close. The village has some nice cozy homes from what I've seen. Maybe a simple cottage by the lakeside."

"Sounds romantic," you tease.

Saki shakes her head. "Sounds practical to me. Yeah... I like the idea of a simple life."

You're not surprised. After all you've been through, nothing sounds more appealing than an honest, simple life. But that's not exactly the fate of an awakened person like Saki, and certainly not someone hosting an ever annoying demon in his body like you. You can fantasise and tease Saki about the settled quiet life of the future... but a big part of you thinks that you'll never have the luxury of that future.

"Ryoji, you just turned awfully quiet," Saki points out. "Are you chatting with Nina? What's she saying?"

You shake your head. "Huh? No, Nina's decided to be quiet during this trip. Says she doesn't want to talk over our private moments."

"I don't mind, but that is awfully considerate of her," Saki smiles.

"Yeah, I like having her voice around, but it'll be nice to not have any running commentary for my life on this little relaxation trip."

"So... why did you zone out?"

You shrug, casual as ever. "Oh, you know me, just thinking about lewd delinquent things. You know, things a delinquent would do. Lewdly."

"I knew it!" Saki exclaims with a smug grin. "I knew you thought about that-"

"-Is that Saki-chan?" a voice calls out. Looks like you've found who you're meeting with. "It is!"

Three young women with very similar fashion to Saki come rushing up to you at the train station. "Ara-Ara!" the oldest one exclaims, coming on very strong right off the bat. This one is Yokota, you think. "Why Saki-chan, I don't think I've seen you since you were in middle school! My, you haven't grown an inch!"

"T-thanks..." the short Saki mumbles awkwardly, noting her diminutive height.

"I can think of a few places she's grown, fufufu..." The middle one, Chigusa, replies with a dirty-minded grin, causing Saki to blush.

As Saki is mobbed by a sudden smothering hug from Yokota, the youngest looks to you. "So, is this your boyfriend?" Masami smiles. "He's quite tall. Can... can you reach?"

Oddly enough, you feel like that last question was in earnest, and not to tease. Doesn't stop Saki from getting flustered.

"My, my~!" Yokota grins, as she examines you closely, getting far to close in your personal space than you're comfortable with. "This is not what I expected at all! Who would have thought that our little Saki-chan would end up with a-"

"Delinquent?" you raise an eyebrow.

"Ah yes!" Yokota snaps her finger. "Thank you, that's a much kinder word!"

Kinder? Wait, what word was she going to use?

Chigusa laughs. "I'm sure Saki-chan told you all about us, right?"

>Not a word. I'm clueless.

>She tried, but I didn't listen.

"Oh, is that so?" Chigusa smirks.

Masami frowns. "That's a little rude..."

You shrug. "It's the truth. Ask Saki. I'd zone out every time."

Saki nervously presses her fingers together. You haven't seen her acting this shy in a long time. Her confidence has grown a lot in the past year, so you suppose seeing these three from a time when she was much less sure of herself is bringing those feelings back. "Yeah... that's true..."

"A boyfriend who doesn't listen to her..." Chigusa mutters to herself. "Tsk tsk..."

"I-It's not like that!" Saki exclaims, but pauses. She doesn't want to explain that the real reason is you find her cousins to boring to hear about. She still wants them to think highly of you. "It... it's just..."

"Oh, don't tease!" Yokota chastises her little sister. "I'm sure it's just stressful! They don't have time to hear about us, Ara Ara! Now come here, Ryoji!"

Come here? What does she mean by-Oh no. Before you have time to react, you're getting smothered with a hug from the oldest sibling. Gah, you can barely breathe... this must be what hell is like...

Masami gives a respectful bow. "Saki-chan and Ryoji-kun, do you mind if I take your bags?"

"Go ahead," Saki replies, handing over her suitcase to her cousin. Masami takes it in her hand, but the second Saki lets go, the case comes crashing down, making a crack in the ground as it does, a huge strain appearing on Masami's face.

"It's so heavy!" Masami exclaims. "H-how were you carrying that?"

Saki smacks her forehead and chuckles. "Oh, I forgot! I packed my training weights in there! I guess I'll have to carry it myself. Sorry..."

"Training weights?" Masami mutters. "How strong are you..."

As Saki and two of her cousins walk off, you begin to follow them, with Chigusa close behind you. "Ryoji Shida... my, you seem to be an interesting one..."

This middle cousin sure is making you uncomfortable with her staring. "Nope, pretty boring..." you reply, pulling out a cigarette.

"Dressed like a delinquent, don't listen to her, and you smoke?" Chigusa ponders. "Now Ryoji... if I know my cousin well, you're about the last person I would see her calling her boyfriend."

"Guess you don't know her that well, then."

"I've known Saki since she was a baby," Chigusa explains. "Sure, we may taunt and tease, but Saki was like a baby sister to the three of us."

You scoff. One thing you do know is Saki rarely saw them as a kid. They would only see her during family events where they were forced to go, and they would often tease Saki relentlessly, never apologising, and never bothering to hang out with her in any other capacity. You can chalk that crap up to kids being kids, and they might look back on it with a more positive lens than Saki did, but she was no sister to them.

"Ryoji..." Chigusa continues. "You wouldn't be... mistreating our dear Saki-chan, would you?"

Mistreating? The hell's she trying to imply?

>Go to hell. You don't even know me.

>I'd never mistreat Saki. Not like you folks did.

Chigusa raises an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"

"You heard me," you reply, crossing your arms. "Saki's willing to forgive and forget and have a nice time, but I'm not forgetting what Saki's family has put her through. Her parents were awful to her, and don't think you can get away with being only a little better than them. And I'm not going to let you people try to sink your claws into her again."

Chigusa pauses, placing a finger on her chin. "Well, is that so? You seem very passionate on the subject."

"You bet I am," you reply. "I owe a lot to Sak, and I've seen the pain she's been left with from her family. Trust me, you're lucky we ever gave you the time of day."

Chigusa lets out a laugh. "Fufufu... well, it seems you're not quite what I expected, Ryoji Shida. It's nice to see Saki has someone looking out for her."

You shrug. "Someone had to. Besides... she looked out for me."

Chigusa smirks. "I see... well, you really are an interesting one, aren't you? I look forward to seeing more of you."

As Chigusa passes by you she lightly taps your... behind? She smirks as she walks ahead, and you're the one left blushing. You're not used to that.

As you catch up with the others, you see them standing by the door of a rather extravagant looking home. A golden villa, standing proud and lustrous. The door swings open... and there stands a women you did not expect to see today... and hoped you wouldn't see again.

"M-m-mother?!" Saki exclaims. "W-w-what are you doing here?"

Sakamae stands with a smug grin, staring at her nails. "Oh, I heard you'd be visiting. I decided to visit as well."

Saki's mother upturns her nose. "Oh... it's you. What are you doing here?"

"What am I doing here?" you scoff.

"I had hoped to see my daughter," Sakamae explains. "Not the peasant who stole her away."

"Stole?" you grimace. "I didn't steal anyone. Saki's a big girl, makes her own decisions. I guess you wouldn't know, you never really let her make decisions, did you?"

"Mother, please leave us alone..." Saki sighs. "I don't want to speak to you."

"What you want is no matter!" Sakamae responds. "I am your mother! You can't avoid me!"

Masami lets out a sigh. "Aunt Sakamae, you promised you wouldn't cause any drama..."

Chigusa gives a smug grin. "I told you it was a bad idea to tell her..."

"Let's all try to get along with a big family hug!" Yokota adds, but neither Sakamae or Saki bite the bait.

"What did you plan to achieve, mother?" Saki replies, her new confidence shining through. She's stood up to her parents before, she won't hesitate to do it again. "That you could berate me into speaking with you again. I've been very happy as of late. Right until around I saw you again."

Sakamae shakes her head. "Can't we be a little more civil, Saki?"

"Sure," you reply. "You can start by carrying our bags. Careful, they're heavy."

You and Saki hand you bags over to Sakamae, who is able to lift them with ease. You forgot that she's awakened, considering she and her husband have no interest in actually fighting and helping humanity. They'd rather sit comfortable with their money in their mansion.

"Honestly, Saki..." Sakamae mutters. "I know your father and I could have been... a little nicer to you..."

A little?!

"... But you are my only daughter," Sakamae explains. "I would appreciate the opportunity to make things up to you."

"Mother..." Saki sighs.

I understand but if there is chance to salvage a bit of their relationship that is good enough, not expecting any mother of the year award or anything.

I just honestly want Sak and her to come to a mutual break-off without resentment. That's why I voted how I did.

Why the hell would anyone want the relationship to be salvaged, her parents are awful to her for 16 years and then her mom keeps doing it, says oh my bad, and then what we're supposed to forgive her?

The only reason anyone ever would is if they think family ties matter when your family is awful, which they dont.
>>
>>2522745
I am in a similar boat. We likely will never like Sakame. But we're the son in law. Its kind of expected.

Its Saki and her parents. Its their relationship. Let them figure out the point where it lies. Hell, even neutral is a long term goal that could be achieved...after several years.

What's worse is that guy who thinks we're the same as them for standing up for her.

How on earth is telling her mom to fuck off when Saki doesn't want to see or speak to her the same as tormenting your child for her whole life?

Victims in abusive relationship can't escape on their own, and it's especially hard when it is parent and child. This is something she needs help with and full support, not a shrug and telling her to deal with it herself.

>Well... that's up to you, Sak.

You're not going to try and make Saki's decisions for her. You'd be no better than her parents then.

Saki pauses as she considers Sakamae's words. "You... really mean that?"

Sakamae nods. "It's not in my best interests to cut ties with my only daughter."

"Not in your best interest?" Saki mutters. Damn it, classic Kobashi. She's still only thinking about herself and her reputation.

Saki shakes her head before giving an answer. "Fine, you can stay and try to make good... but this isn't a second chance, mother. I won't forgive you just on your request. Forgiveness is earned, not gifted. This is your family as much as it is mine, so I cannot eject you from their home... but make no mistake, if you don't make good on your promise to change, I will happily never speak to you again after this weekend."

"S-Saki..." her mother mutters, taken aback by the confidence and authority in her daughters words. She only knew her as a young shy girl, never able to speak for herself. You're impressed with how calmly Saki was able to dress down the woman who terrorised her for sixteen years.

Saki turns around and takes you by the hand. "Come on, Ryoji. We have a room to get to."

You're guided towards a bedroom in the villa. Yokota opens up the door as you step into a massive bedroom fit for a king. A huge bed, plenty of room to move around, and a complimentary bathroom.

"Sorry, it's not much!" Yokota smiles, with her hands on her cheeks in embarassment. Wait, this isn't much?! "We'll be sure to see you for dinner! Feel free to get changed here!"

As Yokota leaves, you and Saki throw your bags on the bed. "God, your family is so rich..."

"I guess it is a real culture shock, huh?" Saki admits.

You smile as you look to Saki. "I'm proud of you, Sak."

Saki blushes. "Ryoji, please! Don't praise me, it's embarrassing!"

"But I am," you reply. "You did the right thing. I just would have told her to piss off... which you kinda did, just more polite."

"Yeah..." Saki smiles. "Despite my woman likely trying to ruin things... I have a feeling this will be a fun weekend."

>Yeah... to be honest, I planned out a lot of stuff for us to do.

Saki stops unpacking her things. Oh boy... you knew you were going to regret saying that...

Saki's head turns around, almost rotating the full way like an owl as she gives a wide, satisfied grin. "Is that so? Oh, Ryoji... you actually organised something? Based on hobbies and interests? Because you thought it would be... fun? Romantic?"

"Yeah, yeah..." you mutter, unable to avoid a small blush. This is it... the moment Saki teases you. The day has finally come.

"Look at you, a responsible boy!" Saki laughs. "Ryoji Shida, I've finally turned you into a responsible young man!"

You let out a small laugh. "Okay, Sak... I was just actually a little excited about this weekend."

Saki smiles. "Ryoji, you don't have to be embarrassed. I'm done teasing, unlike you, it's not in my nature. I'm so happy you're as excited as I am... it's nice to spend more time together."

Saki slowly approaches you and stand on her tip-toes for a kiss. She pulls back a little, still embracing you as she speaks. "I think now, there's only one thing we can do... should be obvious..."

You smirk as your hand slowly moves up under Saki's shirt. "Oh yeah... I know exactly what you-"

Saki smiles as she pulls out a massive folder. "We compare our weekend plans together so that we can optimise our schedule! It'll be so fun!"

Ah... of course. You can't help but laugh. Of course that's what Saki meant.

>Later, at dinner

"... My Saki, your posture is truly amazing!" Sakamae smiles as she delicately eats her food. You, meanwhile, are eating a leg of chicken with your hands. It's delicious.

Saki glares. "Well, that's to be expected. You made me balance books on my head to correct it. When I'd fail, you'd throw one of my stuffed toys in the garbage."

"Oh... yes..." an embarrassed Sakamae mutters. "Well... have you still been practising piano, Saki?"

"In my own time, yes." Saki takes a bite of her meal. "It's a lot more fun... and with less instructors hitting my knuckles when I missed a note."

"Yes..." Sakamae sighs.

The atmosphere of the dinner becomes more tense as Sakamae's stories and Saki's interpretations of them prove to be very different.

Yokota claps her hands together. "You know what? We should host a party later! In fact, we should do exactly that! I'm going to make a few calls!"

It's that easy for them, huh? Yokota moves to arrange the party, as Sakamae stares at you. "And does he intend to attend the party dressed like... that?"

Saki glares at her mother as you lean back in your chair. "Probably."

Chigusa shakes her head. "If you need a suit, I'm happy to provide you with one. You're about the same height as my boyfriend."

>Eh... fine. It won't kill me.

Chigusa smirks. "Excellent. I'm sure you'll look marvellous, Ryoji. Come, follow me."

You really don't like the way this one looks at you. You try to keep a distance as she takes you to her room, one twice in size to yours in every capacity. Damn, just how much money do these people have? Her room is like a house!

Chigusa opens up the cupboard and pulls out a suit. "May not be perfect, but it's better than looking homeless, wouldn't you say?"

"I like this look," you reply. "It's my signature look."

Chigusa rolls her eyes. "Yes, I'm sure they'll be putting it on posters and figurines."

"They might," you reply. "Don't forget, I'm famous... sometimes I forget that."

"Is your memory bad?"

"... You could say that."

Chigusa steps outside as you get changed into the suit. It's a little tight fitting, which leaves you feeling more confident about your musculature. As Chigusa enters the room and neatly folds your clothes, you turn to her. "You sure your boyfriend won't mind me using this?"

"Oh, not at all..." Chigusa laughs to herself. "He's very forgiving... although..."

Chigusa turns around, before reaching her arms out before you, cornering you against the cupboard. "I'm sure he would mind this."

Chigusa leans in, ready to kiss you. Instinctively, you lean your head back and push her away, but damn she's strong. Chigusa smirks as her face remains close to yours. "I am, of course, joking."

Huh? Chigusa pulls away and lets out a low laugh. "A joke? You've got one twisted sense of humour, lady."

Chigusa shrugs. "So I've been told. I'm happy to know you reacted as I expected you to. You're a faithful man... not what I would have thought at first glance."

"I'm poor, not a serial killer," you reply. "Seriously, do all you people see the poor as some kinda animals?"

"I also wanted to test you," Chigusa explains. "After all, you're very casual about leaving that ring in your pants pocket."

Dammit... you meant to move that into the suit pocket before she started folding...

"I have a reputation as a gossip," Chigusa explains. "But I won't tell anyone else about this... on the condition that you tell me the truth. Was your intention to propose to my dear cousin Saki-chan this weekend?"

>Damn... you caught me. That's what I was going for.

>I don't know... I just keep it on me to be safe.

Chigusa places a finger to her chin. "Odd... you don't strike me as an indecisive man."

"I'm not," you respond. "I'm anything but. I'm the master delinquent. I'm so sure of myself, I'm making decisions before I even know there's a decision to make!"

"How headstrong."

"You're damn right," you smirk. "I've always been bold. I've always done when I wanted, when I wanted."

"Then why aren't you?" Chigusa teases, making you pause in your tracks. "Are you really as bold as you claim?"

You grunt. "Don't try to bait me, lady. This isn't just something I can go charging headfirst into like usual. Saki's important to me... more important than anything... so the time has to be right!"

"Well, I wish you good luck," Chigusa replies, as the two of you exit the room and enter the lobby of the villa, where Saki, her mother, and her cousins lie in wait.

"You look great, Ryoji!" Saki smiles warmly in a way that makes your chest a little tighter.

Yokota claps her hands together. "Just wait until you see Saki in her dress!"

Saki shakes her head. "I'm not actually a big fan of dresses. I usually prefer wearing a suit myself..."

Masami shakes her head. "But... we don't have any suits that would fit you..."

"Then a dress it'll be," Sakamae replies. "Now, to the baths. We must be looking fresh for our guests."

Hang on, they rushed you to get ready but now you've gotta wait for them to bathe, select dresses, and get changed? What the hell?

"Will you be okay waiting?" Saki asks, as if she can read your mind.

You shrug. "I'll be fine, Sak. I'll just have a peaceful walk around the place."

As Saki is dragged to the baths by her family, you step outside. It's insane in this town... it's still January, but it feels like Summer. It's so warm, and not a lick of snow. Like another world entirely.

"I suppose I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"

"Good to hear you talking," you reply to Nina. "I was just in need with a walking partner."

"How's the weekend been going so far?"

"Well, he cousins are annoying, and one is an outright menace," you explain. "Plus, her mom is here. Saki laid down the law though, and we aren't gonna take any of her crap. What have you been up to? I expected you to be silently watching."

"Actually, I was looking through some of your old memories," Nina explains. "Like old movie reels. I wasn't around for your relationship with Saki, so I wanted to see how it formed. It was so sweet how you voted for her in the class elections..."

>You don't mind watching that stuff? Considering our past, I thought you'd find that uncomfortable.

"What, do you expect me to be jealous? Ryoji, I'm only a spirit. I'm not even the real Nina. The real Nina died seven months ago. I have no place being jealous."

You pause. "I guess not... that's a real practical way of looking at it. It really doesn't bother you?"

I'd be lying if I said I didn't hold certain... feelings that I had in life. Because of my situation, those will likely always linger within me... but I'm far too happy for the two of you to care about that. When we were together... you weren't the man you are now. I saw the man that you would one day become... but you were angry, and miserable, and all of your potential was unfulfilled. And I... enabled that behaviour. I thought that you'd eventually get better that I never truly put my foot down and guided you in the right direction... and you were certainly not helping my mood. I know it hurts to hear this... especially when you've lost all memory of it... but you were bad for me. And I wasn't exactly good for you either. So... when I see that you've found someone who can bring out this side of you, to help you mature and grow as a person, and a person you're able to show all your love and care for... more than anything, I'm happy. It's the only happiness I can really feel in this prison..."

"Nina..."

"S-sorry, I've spoken too much already. I don't want to bother you any further. Have a nice weekend, Ryoji."

"You too, Nina... even though I'm not sure if you have a concept of time. I really can't imagine what it's like living in there..."

You sigh. Nina's words left you feeling odd. While you're happy that she's proud of the life you've made for yourself and that your current actions make her happy... she still regards your mind as a prison. She's not wrong, either. If it were up to you, you never would have saddled her with this fate. Nina died seven months ago... but her ghost has been forced to linger on. After all she's been through, more than anyone else, Nina Nagata deserves to rest in peace.

You walk down the street... and notice a very familiar group. Well damn, you'd recognise the jacket-clad buffoons trying to bring in through that screen door and somehow failing anywhere.

"Hey!" you call out, as the Mighty Mongeese turn their heads and panic.

"Jeepers, we've been caught!" one calls out.

"D-don't say jeepers!" Yoshi, their leader yells. "It makes us sound uncool! The Mighty Mongeese can't sound uncool! Wait a minute... you're Ryoji! Remember us? We helped you against that weird guy with the sword! You wouldn't bust us, would you?"

"The hell are you guys doing here?" you ask. "Do you just try any town after failing in one?"

"Yes. Exactly that."

Huh... "Well, it's good to see you idiots. I never probably thanked you for helping me against The Drifter."

"Yeah..." Yoshi nods. "I sure wish there was just some way you could repay us..."

"Usually that's supposed to be said in reverse, by me..." you point out. "But actually... I might just have a way to pay you back."

"Really?"

>Yeah, this suit I borrowed has a wallet in it. Who wants some lunch?

Sure, it's stealing... but of course you'd be stealing, you're a delinquent. Besides, whoever can just leave this wallet in a closet of a villa can easily afford some lunch. You're hardly robbing anyone of their livelihood.

"W-what, you mean it?" Yoshi gasps.

"Sure, it's the least I can do," you reply, reading the name on the credit card. "Or the least, the least Mr. Okuyasu can do. Let's go."

So, while Saki and her family get ready for the dinner party, you treat the Mighty Mongeese gang to a nice meal at the nearest seafood place. You sit and chat, joke, smoke and have fun with the wannabe delinquents, before it's time to go back to the party.

"Well, it's been fun," you explain. "And if you guys ever want to hang around Dakugeto anytime... we'll be happy to have you. Well, I'll be happy to have you. I can think of quite a lot of people who won't, but who cares?"

You make your way back to the villa of Saki's family, where you note that guests have already arrived, and the party is already underway. Damn, you must have lost track of time.

"Ah, there he is! Ara Ara!" Yokota exclaims, not giving you time to react before you're crushed by another hug from the cheerful cousin. Dammit... at least she instantly seems to like you. As far as Saki's family goes these cousins aren't as bad as expected... it seems they've grown a lot since Saki last met them back when she was in middle school.

"Leave him alone, Yokota..." Masami sighs, flicking through a book.

Yokota pouts. "But he's Saki-chan's beloved! That makes him our cousin-in-law... or something! Why don't you give your cousin in law a hug?"

Masami blushes. "I... I'm not comfortable around men..."

"Trust me, I wasn't planning on getting in your space," you reply. "Be uncomfortable all you like, I'm not gonna make it worse for ya."

"Oh... thank you," Masami replies with a smile. "I'll be honest I expected you to-"

"What? Be a sexual deviant?" you ask. "Why is everyone judging me today?"

"To be fair," Masami points out. "On tv you advertised yourself as the Master Delinquent..."

Sakamae huffs. "I'll have you know that I judge him for being a peasant."

"That's funny," you reply. "Because I judge you for being a bitch."

"Ugh, that foul language again..."

"Where's Sak?" you ask.

"She's about to perform some piano for our guests."

You grunt. "What, you force her to perform again-"

"No," Sakamae interrupts. "Saki suggested it. To be honest, I'm surprised. She never suggests anything like this..."

You wait for a moment, when Saki enters the lounge and bows to the guests, looking absolutely stunning in her dress. She clumsily approaches the grand piano, unable to move properly in said dress before announcing to herself to the crowd.

"Umm... ah..." she mutters, nervously trying to find the right thing to say. "Uh... Saki."

That was just her name, wasn't it? Saki bows again, before moving to the piano. She hesitates over the instrument to begin, contemplating it, and feeling the nerves of stage fright... before looking towards you. Soon, the nerves wash away into a bright smile and a nod, as she begins to play with perfect form.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVSAuOJ06wA

As the guests watch in rapt attention, Sakamae takes a step back in shock. "She... she's amazing. When did she become this good?"

"You damn fool," you mutter. "You don't get it? She's always been this good. She can only show it now that she's free."

"Free..." Sakamae mutters. "Is this your doing, peasant?"

>Nah. That's all Saki.

"All Saki..." Sakamae ponders.

You nod. "She's absolutely amazing, just so you know. She really brings out the best in people. Other than you and your husband. At least, I hope that's not your best."

As Saki finishes, the guests applaud her work. She takes a bow, and rushes off in your direction. Sakamae stands ready for her daughter to approach... but Saki brushes right past her and runs into your arms, leaving her mother frozen in shock. You and her embrace and kiss, before she takes you by the hand. "I'm going to show Ryoji around," she says excitedly as she grabs a backpack. "I'll be back soon."

She grab you by the wrist and drags you out of the main doors of the villa, as the two of you take a walk down the street towards a lakebed. She sets down the bag and unzips it, pulling out some more casual clothes. "Now that that's done, I can get out of this awkward dress," she explains. You were working to keep her steady in that thing during your walk. "Ryoji, make sure nobody's looking while I change real quick."

You do as told, and quickly Saki urges you to turn around. You do, and see her in casualwear, with a green jacket of her own. "I know it's not a glamorous as the dress, but-"

"You look better now," you smile, causing Saki to blush. "But I gotta say, that get-up looks awful familiar. A lot like mine. Dare I say, Saki Kobashi is starting to dress like a del-"

"Don't you dare say the 'd' word!" Saki stops you right in your tracks. "I'm two steps ahead of you, Ryoji Shida!"

"I'll say," you reply. "Usually I'm the one with all the plans thought out. What are we doing here?"

Saki turns around and looks out over the lakebed. "I like this spot. Spending time in that place... brought me back to a lot of childhood memories. And.... none of those are good. But here... I have one memory of here, and it's a pretty good one."

"What is it?" you ask.

Saki pauses. "I can't say. You'll make fun of me."

"No, I won't!" you insist. "Okay, I probably will... I definitely will... I'll make fun of you if you say it or not, really."

"Okay..." Saki sighs. "So... when I was five, I would hang out here and read books to be alone, because I didn't have any friends and the maid I would give bonuses to if she hugged me and pat my head wouldn't be around."

"I'm... not going to question that part," you reply, realising that Saki hit the tip of an iceberg of childhood sadness with just that one sentence.

"Anyway," Saki explains. "I met a tortoise who lived here. I called him snappers. I would talk to him every day, and I'd read my books to him. He wasn't the best conversationalist, but he was a real good listener. For the longest time, I considered that tortoise my only friend. He's probably not here anymore..." Saki looks over to you. "Go ahead, Ryoji. Unleash the teasing."

"Saki..." you smirk. "I don't think I've ever been more in love with you than I am right now."

"T-that's not teasing!" Saki blushes. "Where's the delinquent bullying, or... is this the bullying? Ryoji!"

"No, I'm serious," you laugh. "That's adorable, why would I make fun of you. Hell, I had a rough time making friends myself as a kid. I remember I used to do the same with a forest fox who'd wander into our backyard. He was missing an eye so I called him Scar. Me and my dad would feed him whenever he came by..."

"Ryoji..." Saki mutters.

"I know," you shrug. "Kinda ruins my badass image when I was-"

"No, Ryoji..." Saki explains. "You mentioned your dad. A memory of you as a kid... and your dad was in it."

You lean back, your eyes widening. She's right... all memories of your parents before you joined the academy were wiped clean. But... you can remember this. Vividly. "Did... did you just make me remember a stolen memory," you ask.

"I-I don't know!" Saki panics slightly in excitement. "But... you remembered it!"

"I... I did!" you reply, getting more emotional than you're used to. "I... I really did! I don't know what the hell that means but... but right now I could, I could..."

You grab Saki by the wrist and pull her in. "Whoa, what are we doing?"

"Dancing!" you reply. "We're long overdue you teaching more moves, remember?"

Saki blushes as you and her dance by the lake, the moon shining brightly off it's surface. You twirl her around before pulling her in and dipping her... before the two of you fall on each-other in a giggling mess. "One day, we'll get the hang of that..." Saki laughs to herself... before noticing something. "Oh, you dropped something."

You dropped... uh oh. The ring case.

You quickly grab it and stuff it back into your pocket as Saki raises an eyebrow. "Ryoji... what was that?"

"Ah, screw it!" you yell, whipping the case out of your hand and popping it open, presenting it to your girlfriend. "Dammit Sak, I want to marry the hell out of you! So... let's do that!"

... What the fuck did you just say? What the hell was that?! God dammit, Ryoji! That was the worst proposal of all time! Of all the ways you could have strung some words along to get out that message, you picked exactly the worst possible one! This is your big proposal to the love of your life? That's how you're going to do this? What a mess!

"Ryoji..." Saki mutters, her eyes wide and her mouth agape, staring at the ring in utter disbelief. "You... you just..."

You take a deep breath and collect yourself. "Sorry about how I said that, but I mean it... Saki, when I first came to the academy, I was-"

"Yes."

"... Sorry, what was that?"

"Yes," Saki repeats. "It's a yes."

You smile and chuckle nervously. "W-wow, Sak... I kinda had a big speech prepared."

"You can continue the speech," Saki laughs. "You just looked nervous, so I wanted you to know that it's a yes."

"Yes..." you mutter, as you can't stop yourself from grinning and blushing. Saki meanwhile lets out a laugh as she begins to tear up. "Okay... speech time... Saki, when I first came to this academy, I was a real piece of work. I was a bully and a liar and an all-round jackass. I was a guy I was never meant to be, deep inside. I was a cold, bitter lie, a wall I put up so that... nobody could get close to me. But then... this uptight, shrimpy little dork knocked down that wall with one punch to my face when I tried to steal some shoes. I lay there that day... beaten and embarrassed by a girl, and looking back it was the best thing that ever happened to me. This annoying little miss perfect class head taught me... taught me the importance of having someone by your side. That it felt good to do good... and most importantly, she taught me that it was okay to let me guard down... I didn't have to be Ryoji Shida, master delinquent and the worlds toughest guy... I could just be Ryoji Shida, small town boy and a certain someone's jellybean... dammit, I'm not supposed to be crying..."

Saki wipes the tears from your eyes as you return the favour on hers, the both of you laughing through joyful sobs.

"Saki... in the last year I've been dropped in a demon world, crushed, possessed, stabbed, stabbed, stabbed another time, dismembered, chopped into bits and burned alive... and I can still call it the best year of my life because I had it with you. You... you strange wonderful bizarre annoying perfect dork. So... will the great Saki Kobashi take her arch-nemesis, the master delinquent... as her husband?"

"Let me think about it," Saki jokes, as the two of you laugh and share a tearful kiss. You hold her close as she tries on the ring. A perfect fit. "Ryoji... I'm so glad I met you."

"I don't know what I would have done without you, Sak..." you reply.

Saki sniffles, looking at the ring. "I never thought that when we first met... a year from now, I'd be happy to marry you. And nothing would make me happier... although, we probably won't be able to have the wedding for a long time. Considering our school duties, then future plans after graduation... we're set to be engaged until after college."

"I can wait for the big ceremony," you reply. "All I really need is you anyway, Sak. No need to stress. Besides, we've got an entire weekend ahead of us... now as an engaged couple. You know what that means?"

"Our optimised schedule is perfect for this!" Saki exclaims. This time, it was what you meant.

You snuggle with Saki by the lakebed, as she lightly kisses your neck. The moonlight is just perfect as it shines upon the water as you and Saki stand transfixed in a perfect moment in time, one you never want to leave. It takes you back to your first kiss, on the roof of the school.

It takes you back to that, and you can't fight back your happy tears.

"Don't fidget, you're only going to hurt yourself."

Rei lets out a sigh as she pokes Isamu, holding him in place as he lays back in bed. He's covered in bruises, sporting a few broken ribs, a shattered ankle, and a broken arm, but his mind tells him to be as hyperactive as ever.

"Miss Arisato, it's not in my nature to stay still..." Isamu mumbles.

"Well too bad, because that's what you're gonna do," Rei replies, fluffing his pillow. "It's your own fault for being an idiot, anyway. What the hell did you think was going to happen?! An angel mode isn't a guaranteed win, especially when you go charging in without a plan! Dammit Isamu, you've got me so riled up! You're lucky you weren't killed!"

Isamu hangs his head low. "I know, Miss Arisato..."

"Well, you're stuck with me now," Rei explains. "I've already checked on Raiden, and Saki's old man needs his nap."

"I do not require a nap," Wei's voice calls out from behind the curtain surrounding his hospital bed. "I simply didn't want to engage with you students."

"World's best principal," Rei snarks before turning to Isamu. "Anyway, back to yelling at you-"

"Miss Arisato... I know," Isamu interrupts holding his head low in defeat. "I made one of the most foolish mistakes of my life. I rush ahead and almost lost my life... almost left my siblings without an older brother, my parents without an eldest son, Akemi Ibushi without a best friend, my beloved without a soulmate..."

"D-don't flatter yourself too much," Rei huffs with a blush.

Tears begin to drip from Isamu's eyes as he continues. "And worst of all... I almost allowed more innocent people to be hurt by that monster due to my failure! That... that's not the hero I want to be! I... I'm a failure..."

Rei tilts her head, frowning. She places her hand atop Isamu's with a concerned look on her face. "Don't say that! And stop crying like a baby! You shouldn't be so hard on yourself... that's my job! And I'm just worried about your safety! I'm just trying to keep you grounded, not crush your spirit! You screwed up... but you're not the kind to give up after something like that! You're not the kind of guy to mope and brood! You're Isamu Iori, dammit! You joke and goof off and act like a buffoon... and when you make a mistake, you learn from it and keep trucking on! That's what makes you... you! And... it's why I... you know... hold certain feelings for you..."

Isamu looks up at Rei, staring deep into her eyes as his frown turns to a bright smile. "I love you too, Miss Arisato."

"I-I didn't say that!" Rei blushes.

Isamu yawns. "And don't worry, Miss Arisato... I'm not giving up anytime soon. I'm still in so much pain, my bones broken, my body screaming... but my spirit will always live on. It... just needs a little time to recover! I'll take this defeat as the greatest lesson of my life, and I will work to become the greatest hero! I'm even coming up with new special moves, you should read them! What do you think of Stone Ocean Attack?"

"Isamu..." Rei mumbles with a smile, trying hard not to laugh.

"A-and I'm not just going to keep goofing off!" Isamu exclaims. "When I'm feeling better we should work on combat strategy! Perhaps Saki Kobashi would be able to help us-"

"I don't need any help from Saki," Rei interrupts, before collecting herself. "But... I think we could all learn something from working together."

Wei's voice speaks from behind the curtain. "Young Iori... the fact that you handle a failure like this shows that you have more potential than most who come to this school. Must would be broken shells after the thrashing you received."

"Wei Kobashi..." Isamu mutters, slightly proud. "I will live up to that standard! I promise on my honour as a hero-ouchie!"

Rei grumbles. "Dammit Isamu, don't try to strike a dynamic pose when you're hurting!"

Isamu blushes. "Oops... sorry. I forgot. I was getting all fired up, and my blood was boiling! I was ready to fight!"

"I'll give you a fight if you don't settle down!" Rei lectures, poking Isamu again.

Isamu smirks. "Alright, alright... you arrived before the others, Miss Arisato."

Rei pauses. "Oh? Uhh... yeah, I did. I don't know... I just had this unshakeable feeling that something had gone wrong, and I had to run. It's pretty silly, but I guess my intuition was right..."

"Ah yes!" Isamu smiles. "The red string of fate that binds two lovers, forever able to sense the-"

"Nah, that's not it," Rei grumbles. "Whatever it was, I suppose we'll just have to chock it up to life's great mysteries."

Isamu smiles. "I am glad you arrived first, Miss Arisato..."

Rei blushes. "Cut it out..."

"But it's true. I felt broken, lost, and confused... but when I opened my eyes, and the first face I saw when I gained consciousness was yours... everything felt right. Your face washed away all my worries and I felt at ease, like-"

"Okay, fine! I love you too, are you happy?" a blushing Rei blurts out in frustration. "N-now stop going on about all this mushy stuff! You're making me all embarrassed!"

Isamu laughs. "I'll stop when I get that kiss."

Rei shakes her head and leans in, planting her lips on the cheek of Isamu. "Get some rest, Isamu. I'll be right here the whole time."

With his hand enclosed in hers, Isamu closes his eyes and falls asleep beside Rei, getting some much needed rest. Rei lets out a sigh. She's been running around doing everything she can to make Isamu comfortable. She fluffed his pillows, brought him books to read in bed, made him some soup (though her speed and impatience left it more than a little undercooked), looked up a list of 'inspirations' for Isamu's special moves on his cellphone, deleted his search history as she did, brought him some of the same stuffed toys he got for her while she was ill, called up the other Ioris so they could talk to poor Isamu in bed.

Rei looks at the cheap plastic tiara that Isamu bought for her when she was dying. With a smile and a small laugh, she places it gently upon his head. It's his turn to wear it now. Now Isamu is the prince and she is the knight.

Tekina never asked her to babysit him. Nobody did, and the second Rei realises that she grumbles to herself. She's the toughest and brashest girl in the entire academy, so how did this happen? How did Rei Arisato become so in love?
