You are pilot HARRY NEUMANN, the newest of one of the New UN Spacy's Tactical Sound Units!

"So let me get this straight." Amy grumbles as she watches you pop off one of the access panels on the VF-4. "You captured some kinda Zentradi spy or something, and she's like, a super big fan of me?"

"Something like that." You nod as you pry the panel open, revealing some of the VF-4's ancient internals. "She was the pilot that red battlesuit you blasted with your song. Guess she picked up a taste for it."

"...huh." Amy nods.

While Amy was back on board the Pacifica, Dorothea had instructed you not to take her see CL right away. Seemed like she was trying to er... "tame" the Zentradi pilot or something? Or at the very least make sure she wouldn't be a potential threat. So, you decided to pass the time by doing what you promised, starting on fixing up the VF-4 you captured.

However, things weren't looking good. Even though you've only just popped open one panel, you could see the internals were already a mess. Lots of components were missing, removed as part of decommissioning process or stripped for parts, you weren't sure. What was left was badly decayed, being held together by spit and duct tape.

Frankly, you're amazed the damn thing even flew at all, now that you get a good eye on it.

"Hmmmm, looks like it's gonna be tough one." Amy grunts, taking a look for herself. "You think VF-19 or 25 parts will work with it?"

You highly doubt it.

"Well, it's worth a try." You sigh. "We got plenty of spare parts sitting around, and Valkyries are all generally built to accept universal parts, so let's see what we can do."

"Sweet!" Amy grins as her eyes scan the dilapidated fighter. "So, what do we work on first?"

Well, you knew the engines were still operational, but they were probably well past the point of needing an overhaul. Better to just completely swap those out, though that would be a pretty labor intensive task.

Swapping out the older computer systems would be a bit easier, or you could just get rid of them entirely and go full manual. It's not like you were still an academy cadet or anything.

Or maybe check on all the servos that allowed the VF-4 to transform. Lord knows, they're probably all rusted over or locked in when it got decommissioned.

And given your schedule, you'd probably only have time to take care of one these tasks today.

Well, you could just start with something simple like taking out the existing flight computer. Just one look at it, and you could see that it was at least a decade or two out of date.

"Jeez, that thing looks older than I am." Amy frowns as she peers over your shoulder. "So we're gonna swap that out?"

Removing the existing flight computer was simple enough, really. All you had to do was pretty much pry the whole damn thing out and cut the wires. Amy helpfully brings a disposal cart over and you just drop the computer in.

Amy had also gone to the depot to fetch a fresh flight computer, the model currently being used in all of the top of the line models. Thankfully, the core of the system was much smaller and lighter than the older one, though it still took up around the same amount of space due to all of the extra doodads and instruments they slapped on to take advantage of the weight and space savings.

Now it was all a matter of just dropping it into the cockpit...

Well, it was a bit troublesome trying to fit the new computer in, and you had to remove some of the extra bits whose necessity in the cockpit was questionable at best. Damn engineers.

Meanwhile, Amy helped out by standing up through the underside access panel, helping connect all the wires. It was a simple enough task for a inexperienced hand like hers. Just make sure all the colors for each wire matched.

After what had to be a good hour of sweat and toil, both you and Amy were finished slotting the new flight computer in. You gave it a quick power up and confirmed the thing was working, though of course the first thing the computer did was scream at how bad a shape the VF-4 was in.

Well, one step at a time, you suppose.

You sit down on the flight deck next to Amy, who helpfully hands you a water bottle as she douses her hair with hers. You gladly accept it and take a swig.

"So, it looks like you're pretty knowledgeable about all this stuff." Amy says as she looks at the VF-4 and then your hands covered in dust and grease. "Thought pilots just left that to the mechanics or something."

"Ah well, I got into a bad situation where I could've used the skills." You sigh as you take another swig from your water bottle. "Was on a long distance drive once for a road trip, and my car engine just quit on me. Ended up stuck in the middle of nowhere for nearly two days until the two truck finally found me. And the irony was that later I found out there was a simple fix to get the engine started again that I didn't know."

"Huh..." Amy nods. "And you were alone?"

"Yeah, against my better judgment." You laugh lightly.

"Were you scared?" She continues the questions.

"I was practically a kid back then, so yeah, I was a bit." You admit. "Especially when you parents tell you scare stories like Zentradi holdouts from the first war still lurking in the rural areas looking for children to kidnap and eat."

"Jesus, people actually still believe that?" Amy breaks out into laughter.

"It sounds funny now..." You laugh as well.

"Speaking of life before the military." You turn your gaze to Amy. "What were you up to before you signed up for NUNS?"

"Huh..." Amy pauses. "Shit, it feels like it was so long ago already. Couldn't have been six months when I walked into the recruiting office."

"Six months?" You raise an eyebrow. "You're practically as green as they get!"

"Yeah, well, shit happens, right?" Amy grunts, but her expression softens to one of nostalgia as she summons an old and apparently cherished memory. "But, well, I really wanted to sign up. Anyways, I grew up near a NUNS base, so I always got to see all of the heavy equipment being moved in and out. Figured joining up and getting even closer to it was a better alternative to being stuck in a boarding school for the rest of my life."

"Boarding school?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Let's just say..." Amy bites her lip. "I was a bit of a troublemaker."

"No." You gasp with faux shock. "I never knew!"

As you head out of the hangar, you catch sight of Lara working tirelessly on your Valkyrie, no doubt painting up that new pinup. Lara looked to have extreme concentration, keeping her eyes laser focused on her work as he progressed.

You swoop in quickly, craning your head under the tarp to get a sneak peek at the pinup. The tarp still blocked most of your view, but you were able to get just a bit of of a glimpse of a rough painting of Lara, wearing a very cute and frilly costume-

"What the hell, Cap! Get OOOOUUUUUT!" Lara yelps as she aims a kick at you.

You are able to narrowly dodge the attack, backing off and laughing.

"Looking good, Lara!"

"Go awaaaaaaaay!" Lara grunts as she tosses an empty paint bucket at you, forcing you to duck to avoid it. "I don't want to show it until it's ready!"

"All right! All right!" You cackle as you make your escape.

Having wasted enough time, you head straight back to your quarters for a shower and change of clothes, getting back into your regular uniform. You then head over to Amy's room to pick her up. You knock on her door.

"Um, Cap, quick question." Amy says as she opens the door just a crack, only poking her head out. "Hypothetically speaking, you think this CL would rather see me in NUNS uniform or... something more elaborate?"

"Just go with what you feel most comfortable with." You tell her simply.

"Easy for you to say." Amy pouts as she retreats back into her room.

A few minutes and some rummaging passes, and Amy reemerges wearing her regular casual clothes. A fair compromise, you reckon.

"All right, let's go, then." You say as you lead her to the interrogation room.

"Of course." You nod. "I'll be in the room with you the whole time."

"Sounds like a plan." Amy smiles. "All right, let's do this."

At this point, you've already reached the interrogation room. The guards posted at the front salute as you enter, and naturally, you see Dorothea and Karla waiting inside. On the opposite end of the room through the observation glass, you could see CL sitting in the next room over, her hands still cuffed to the table as a precaution. However, she looked eager and not anxious at all.

"Well, I did my best to prepare Cole for the meeting." Dorothea sighs.

"Cole?" You raise an eyebrow. "You named her?"

"It's simpler than just calling her 'CL' all the time." Dorothea huffs. "Besides, the poor girl could use a proper name."

"I think they've been hitting it off." Karla chuckles. "The Admiral here does seem to spoil her a lot."

"Hardly." Dorothea huffs, crossing her arms sternly. "Now how about we get this questioning started? We still have much to do."

"Yes, Admiral." You nod, trying no to grin. "Come on, Amy."

"R-right." Amy nods, following you as you open the door into the interrogation room.

CL -you mean- Cole's attention is immediately piqued when the door opens and you walk in with Amy. You take a position on the back wall while Amy somewhat hesitatingly takes a seat across from the Zentradi prisoner. Cole immediately narrows her eyes as she seems to basically scan Amy in.

"Um... what do I do?" Amy whispers to you.

>Have Amy try to talk to her.
>Maybe you should talk to her.
>Maybe she wants a song.

"Talk to her!" You whisper back, making it sound like the obvious choice.

"R-right!" Amy turns back to Cole. "So, uh, I'm Amy."

"I know." Cole nods. "I saw you on stage. You were very... pretty?"

Cole looks to you, as if wanting to get confirmation that she was using the right word to describe things. You just give a slight nod.

"Yes. Pretty." Cole finally settles on the word.

"P-pretty?" Amy gulps. "I mean, i guess with that costume and everything..."

"I would have liked to see you like that again." Cole continues.

"Well, sorry..." Amy laughs nervously. "This is what I usually wear when I'm not on stage."

"You're not a warrior like him and the red one?" Cole frowns as her eyes dart from Amy to you and back again. "You have the aura of one."

"I'm just... just an idol..." Amy mumbles.

>Continue to let this play out.
>Better get things back on track. You gave Cole what she wanted, it's time for her to carry out her end of the deal.

Cole narrows her eyes and leans forward, not quite convinced. Her gaze then turns to you, but you give her your own warning glare and the Zentradi backs down, returning her attention to Amy.

"We should duel sometime." Cole says simply.

"W-what?!" Amy pales.

"It's the simplest way to judge one's martial prowess." Cole shrugs. "It wouldn't be lethal, of course."

Amy just turns to you, an incredulous look on her face.

>Yeah, that's out of the question.
>We'll keep that in mind.
>Oh don't give me that look, you can totally take her.

"Yeah, that's out of the question." You say flatly, stepping in. "So we held up our part of the bargain. It's time you hold up yours."

"True." Cole fidgets and eyes you warily. "What do you want to know?"

"So can you tell us who this 'Warmaster' you're talking about is." You say as you cross your arms. It was always a good idea to get a handle on what you were going up against.

"The Warmaster is both a great warrior and tactician." Cole explains. "He was the one who became the inheritor of the Star Forge and united the three fleets under his banner."

"Sounds like a big deal." Amy frowns.

"No other Zentradi has had more ships and soldiers under his command." Cole boasts, clearly very proud of it. "I was honored enough to be a part of his personal guard! I've seen his great deeds firsthand! He brought death and destruction to everything in his path, and this backwater is nothing but a sideshow for him!"

"A sideshow?" You raise an eyebrow.

"This is only a puny scouting fleet, after all." Cole shrugs. "One with no battle honors to their name."

"Then why did someone who claims to be so close to this Warmaster come all the way out to this 'sideshow'?" You ask ."You're not just out here to see Amy, are you?"

"She can be a useful asset for the Warmaster, which is why I wanted to bring her to him." Cole grumbles.

That... that was odd.

>Wait, so does that mean you can get us close to the Warmaster?

"Wait, so does this mean you can get us close to the Warmaster?" You blink.

"I'm not going to be an assassin, if that's what you mean." Cole scowls. "Nor am I going to help any get close to him."

Yeah, it seemed like Cole wasn't willing to go THAT far.

"Maybe I can convince her." Amy volunteers. "You know, if I uh, well, you know."

It was certainly a tempting thing to try, but you couldn't pretend to know exactly how Cole would react if she were exposed directly to Amy's song.

Also maybe we could let the two duke it out in simulators?

Also maybe assassination won't be necessary if things can be settled with words... or lyrics
