You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

With the demihumans' crisis averted and an alliance forged with them, there was little reason to remain in their hidden village. While you always had your loyalties to the Templar Order, you had the feeling that Morgan didn't really feel like staying around, either. You suppose that was her loner nature kicking in.

Regardless, you were all overdue to return to Eisenwand. Sol knows what had been going on in the city since you had last left. It's not like you had made your leave under the best of circumstances.

Well, at least you still had Janice and Artya acting as guides. Due to their help, Chief Fardan had appointed them as official ambassadors to Eisenwand to represent their people. However, you had the dark feeling that Janice had accepted the post so readily since it would give her the opportunity to see the acolytes again.

However, there was a bit of a debate among the expedition as you proceeded down the rather perilous mountain trails. Elias was advocating heading back to the city at full speed, in order to carry their important news and research there as quickly as possible. Morgan, however, was more cautious. After all, it wasn't as if the trip up to the mountains was hazard free, and it would be the same going back. Maybe it was worth a bit of a delay to properly scout out the road ahead first.

Maybe if we stylize our armor to look more like a Dragon, people and monsters will be more deterred?

You nod to Morgan, agreeing with her course of action.

"Hmph, see? We should be a little more cautious about this." Morgan puts her hands on her hips smugly, not knowing it just made her look really cute instead of commanding. The wagging tail wasn't helping matters either.

"I suppose I have little choice." Elias shrugs. "If my own escorts are adamant about it, then it shall be so."

"Good." Morgan nods as she looks ahead of the caravan. "We're going to be reaching the foot of the mountain soon, which means the terrain is going to open up and leave us vulnerable to ambush. I'll take a small group ahead to scout the forest for any threats."

You nod as Morgan starts picking out who will be scouting ahead. It would be a small group, just Morgan, Niko, and Artya.

"If we run into any trouble, well... you'll know." Morgan smiles as she pats your arm. "We'll wait for you to catch up once we've cleared the forest!"

And just like that, your three scouts dash ahead, sliding down the mountain slope and into the trees below.

That just left you with Nino and the Mages, as well as Naru, Valentia, and Janice. Elias and the Twins were staying securely in the center of the caravan, where all of their valuable research materials and the dragon parts and trophies were being transported. Valentia, being who she is, was taking the lead with Janice while Naru and Nino were bringing up the rear.

You head to the back of the caravan where Naru and Nino were, both of them sitting on the back of the last wagon, legs swishing back and forth in the air.

"Sheesh, is that a new book?" Naru frowns as she looks over to her young charge. "I swear, you keep picking up more every time I'm not looking!"

"Mhm!" Nino nods. "I found it in the big cave where that crystal dwarf was! It's really fascinating!"

"So, what's it about?" Naru asks as she leans over.

"I have no idea!" Nino smiles. "It's written in Dwarvish and I haven't learned how to read that yet! But the runes are really pretty!"

You look to Naru and point over to Janice at the head of the caravan, wondering just what exactly she thought about the demihumans.

"Oh, what Morgan's people are like?" Naru pauses as she thinks on it. "Terrifying as hell, that's for sure, especially if they're anything like Morgan."

You give her a curious stare.

"I mean it in a good way!" Naru says quickly. "But yeah, just seeing how well adapted they are to their abilities is just really damn scary. Sol, how fast they can run and the way they can sense stuff before they even see it, and the way they just tear up anything in their path... I'm glad they're on our side."

You nod at that. They would be valuable allies against the Elves, that was for sure. But you and the Templars would have to keep a close eye on them in the future, in case they got any "ideas."

"But damn, we left so fast I never even got a chance to try out this." Naru takes out a bottle of clear liquid.

"Special stuff they call 'moonshine'. All homemade in the valley. Pretty powerful stuff, I hear." Naru explains as she tries to pop the cork. "Makes me really damn curious, you know?"

"Uh oh, we're doing this again?" Nino sighs.

You remain adamant and instead keep the bottle. Looks like you'll have to play the role of the babysitter right now.

However, just a slight change in the lighting, a brief shadow flashing across your vision, alerts you to something in the air. You immediately crane your head upwards and see three giant eagles circling in the sky.

Now, eagles were not an uncommon sight in these high mountain peaks, but there was something that you also knew. They happened to be the favored aerial mount for Elven forces. Sure enough, you could see three vaguely humanoid shapes riding the eagles.

Thankfully, though, they don't seem to have noticed your presence, having just flown in over the peak, you were directly under them in their blind spot.

"Do you think you can hit 'em from here?" Naru whispers to Nino.

"Pretty sure, yeah. If I use the right spell." Nino nods.

Janice then bends down into a low, feral stance before dashing away with blinding speed, Romulus only barely being able to keep up with her as they bound for the forest.

Nino takes position as the next set of rocks comes tumbling down the mountainside. She begins to glow as she channels mana through her body but... something's wrong.

You feel your armor tingle, like an electric current is running through it when you hear Nino scream. Your gaze snaps back to her, and you see her lying on the ground twitching, blood pooling underneath her body.

"Nino!" Naru yells, already rushing over to tend to the fallen Mage.

"Shit!" Caroline seethes as she sees what happens, but can't afford to stop to help. "Justine, we gotta pick up the slack!'

"Understood." Justin nods and the two Mage Knights interpose themselves between the rocks and Naru and Nino. In one smooth, synchronized motion, they sweep their batons in a horizontal slash, creating a wall of thick ice in front them. The boulders smash into the wall, but fail to break it, giving your caravan the critical time it needed to get clear of the mountain trail and into the forest.

As much as you wanted, you didn't have time to check on Nino. You'd just have to trust that Naru could handle things from here. Without any further thought or hesitation, you charge forward to the front of the caravan, intent on finding the rest of your party. The Twins should be able to bring up the rear now.

Now, you needed to find Morgan, more than ever.

You trudge through the forest when you see Janice emerge. She puts a finger up to warn you to be quiet and motions for you to follow her.

She leads you to a small clearing where you could see a contingent of Elven cavalry circling around a small copse of trees on large, might stags. Directly above, the three eagle riders flew in a tight circle as well. Obviously, they had trapped something in the copse of trees, and judging from the occasional arrow that flew out at the Elves, you could safely guess who it was in there.

"They're really pulling out all the stops now." Janice grimaces. "We need to give them an opening to break out."

You nod.

Time to make our debut. I suggest some psychological warfare by making dragon noises, drinking (fake) dragon blood before the fight, and playing up that we are a Dragon Reborn in the form of a man.

There was no time to wait for the rest of the caravan to catch up. You would have to make that opening now. As you observe, you see that there were six Elven riders and their stags, while three eagle riders soared above. The cavalry were preventing Morgan's group from escaping on the ground, and the eagles up above were preventing any attempt to escape through the tops of the trees, as they could simply swoop down on anybody caught in the open.

You burst out of the trees, your armor now flaming and spilling embers, a reflection of your current mood as you stand in the path of the approaching Elven cavalry. The sight of you alone is enough to cause their formation to scatter, the stags put into a state of fright by your appearance.

And that's when Janice makes her move leaping out like a massive wolf and tackling the closest stag, tearing into its throat with tooth and claw. The shocked rider is sent tumbling to the ground, where Romulus finishes him off with a bite to the throat.

It was at this point you could see Morgan, Niko, and Artya make a dash across the clearing. You could also hear eagles shrieking as they dove down, wings flapping and claws extended.

At the same time, the cavalry was attempting to rally.

However, before you can do anything, Morgan is already on the move. She fires her first arrow, landing it cleaning through the eye of the first eagle, causing it to flinch and slam into the ground. Morgan doesn't even waste a second, grabbing one of the eagle's wings and with inhuman strength, swings the entire creature around like a makeshift club and slams it into the second eagle with a sickening CRUNCH.

And finally, Morgan leaps up onto the third eagle, kicking its Elven rider off and grabbing the back of its neck. Panicking, the eagle takes off into the sky, with Morgan still on it.

Meanwhile, having witnessed Morgan's pure savagery, as well as realizing that you were the Ashwalker in the flesh, the remaining Elves begin to flee into the trees.

"Is it... over?" Niko pants, wiping the blood off of her daggers.

Artya just shrugs, wiping some spattered blood off of her mask.

You decide to stop for now. Trying to chase them now was counterproductive, especially since you still had the caravan to protect. You do a quick check of everybody present. With the exception of Morgan, everybody was accounted for, with no serious injuries, thankfully.

"Shit, those Elves are really stepping up their game now, aren't they?" Niko grimaces. "You think they have any idea of why we're out here? Or do they just not like us that much?"

You just shrug grimly. It could be either, but it didn't really matter in the end, anyways.

That's when Artya pats your shoulder rapidly and points up.

You tense up when you see the third eagle land, but instead of an Elf, Morgan casually leaps off, the eagle apparently having been tamed.

"Um..." Morgan pauses bashfully. "So what do we do with this thing...?"
