You are Ushi Walker, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A High first year student, host of last night's slumber party, and by what you got told after awakening both over and beneath some of the girls, a real tosser and turner.

After turning off your phone at movietime last night, it wasn't weird at all to have slept well till noon, nor was it that you turned nearly ninety degrees from your pillow. Not your proudest moment, but you and your friends just laugh it off, leaving brunch to you, with Mina's help, while the rest tidy up the living room.

After that forkstain, no one in her right mind would have asked her to clean up anything, but there won't be no slackers under your roof, no siree!..

Except for your mother, who you only went to wake up after everything was set up and ready.

Cornbread, bacon and scrambled eggs, topped with cheese and with orange juice to drink is something simple, filling and fast to whip up for you, using your quirk to compensate for not having enough of anything to feed what amounts to ten, as you made sure to have enough for a second serving for Momo, Momma and yourself.

After a meal and some chatter, most your friends went home, leaving you and Momo to study as you planned.

Maybe it was the short night that didn't let you focus, or the ever closer Sports Festival, or the nervousness brought on by what would the Flame Hero make you face the next afternoon, or just a simple lack of interest, but whatever the reason may be, the result is the same.

Unlike the last sunday, you couldn't really get your head around the coming week's lessons. You could repeat what the example answers were, and even spout some dates when appropriate, but you didn't really understand what you were reading.

At the end of the day, you are sure Momo didn't resent you, but by the time her mother came to pick her up, you could swear you had disappointed her on some level.

All in all, a slow day to finish your busy weekend, leaving you well rested and ready to face the week.

The only really weird thing were six calls from Deku while your phone was off and a message asking you to reply as soon as possible, that you ignore as you only saw it when setting your alarm for the next day.

Even though you need to focus on the teacher's explanations this time, you absentmindedly transcribe everything to your notebook as your mind inexorably shifts towards what you know would come after classes.

The only thing that registers to you, and barely at that, is how All Might smells of blood again. Knowing how he does some hero work before and after classes some days, you didn't give it any thought the last few weeks, but the stinging smell of hospital grade disinfectants coming from the country's N°1 hero briefly brings it to the forefront of your mind.

Odder still, you aren't sure, but you think it's the same person's blood every time.

"Brush-brush, mop-mop~" You say in a sing-song tone under your breath, as you mop and drag a brush with your foot, taking your time and making sure to leave every single tile spotless.

While it's not a job you like to do, there's no way you'll do it shoddily. And even it's in no way your main reason to be excited about the Sports Festival, not having to clean the classroom on your own anymore was still a good reason to wait for the day with bated breath.

>"I am not telling you to hurry, but stalling and making father wait more than needed will not end well." Shoto tells you, leaning against the doorframe and holding your backpack.

"I'm not stalling." You say without missing a beat. "...I just don't believe in half-assing things. That's all."

>"While intimidating, he will not dare to do anything that could scar you." Shoto reassures you, before looking up and continuing. "Then again, I have seen him blow a hole through stained glass without charring the edges."

"Don't worry, he can't kill anyone. But you'd be surprised what you can live through." You say, mockingly imitating the Genie's voice and scraping the last piece of gunk from the floor. "Good pep talk. I'm done anyway, let's get this over with."

>"I do not see how withholding that from you would be a good idea." He replies, walking with you as you go return your mop and bucket to the supply closet. "It may not be as reassuring, but I would rather see you nervous than hurt."

"I'm not nervous." You reply, trying to believe it yourself.

Shoto isn't fooled, however, looking at you and slightly raising an eyebrow.

"Okay! Okay… I'm a bit nervous." You tell him, taking your backpack and starting the walk towards the train station. "I'm stickin' to my guns though."

One thing you can say about Shoto, that you still can't decide if it's a good or a bad thing, is that he doesn't make small talk. Or at least, he doesn't initiate it.

So even though he would reply to your chatter, you don't exchange words during the train ride.

Even knowing that there's no way he'd do any serious damage, you can't help the block of solid ice in your gut when Endeavor himself opens the front door, instead of his daughter.

>"Shoto, young Walker." The hero says as he steps aside to let you enter. "I was starting to think you two had run off again."

Him opening the door himself isn't that odd. The fact that he's wearing his costume however, is. He even has the boots, mask, eyebrows and beard flames burning bright.

It makes you take a small step back and scrambles your head a bit. What did he say?

>"Cleaning took longer than usual, father." Shoto says, covering you. "We came as soon as we could."

>"...Good. Shoto, come with me." The elder Todoroki says after a few seconds of silence, then he turns back towards you. "You go get changed and meet us in the training room."

You practically squeeze yourself against the doorframe to not walk too close to his flaming apparel, and quickly change into your work out clothes. Not much more comfortable, but a lot easier to move in.

After changing and spending a minute trying to remember where the training room is, you enter, finding Endeavor standing on the edge of a white circle, looking at his son, who is sitting by the wall.

He starts talking as soon as he sees you enter.

>"Listen up, both of you. Shoto, your task was to train her, and you let her leave as soon as she did the bare minimum. Now I want you sit and watch what that leniency yields." The hero explains, then ignites his fists in pale, yet orange flames and points at you. "Walker, take your place in front of me. Let's see if you actually learnt anything."

Remember that block of ice in your gut? As you take your place in the "arena", it starts to feel like an iceberg. He doesn't need to go into detail, all you need to know is that the strongest fire quirk user in the country wants to leave a fist shaped brand on you.

>"Settle down, girl. I won't assume you know what a cold flame is, but suffice to say that unless you purposefully grab onto my hands, this can't cause more than a first degree burn." Endeavor tells you, seemingly reading you like a napkin. "I will hold back enough to make dodging possible, but don't expect it to be easy."

Like you ever did...

>What do you do?

>[Lower your stance and get ready to move out of the way. "Alright. Let's do this."]
>[You almost got it last week. Almost. You can't do this yet. "...Can I try again that thing Shoto and I did last week, please?"]
>[Only first degree! Only! Nope. Better to get out. "I-I can't'. Sorry…"]

You really gotta feel for Toshinori Yagi. And I'm not just being pretentious by using his legal name here. I mean that you've gotta feel for the man who dedicated his entire life to helping others, and now has to step back from it, leave it to the new generation. Helping people wasn't just something he did, it was central to his identity. No non-professional friendships. No personal life to speak of. Nothing but helping others, and he did it all with that big dumb grin on his face. But now, that's gone. He's lost the core of his very being. It's an angle very few superhero stories touch on, and as an older reader it's the one I appreciate the most in MHA.

You lower your stance and pivot on your knees for a couple of seconds, trying to make sure you can move out of the way of the flame hero's burning fists when you need to.

Sure he said he'll hold back and that those are cold flames, whatever that oxymoron may specifically mean, but you can clearly feel the heat from nine feet away.

Why else would you be sweating? You are safe, after all.

You just have been put on the spot light to be an example and show your almost asocial friend why he shouldn't show leniency, but you won't get more than first degree burns.

You face the hulking man in front of you, but choose to not look at him in the eye, but at his nervous looking son.

His mouth is a thin line and he looks like he's trying to see how hard he needs to clench his jaw to break his own teeth.

It pains you inside to see him worried like that, but in your effort to make a hole through the walls Shoto built around himself, you managed to turn yourself into a glaring emotional weak point. He is well past caring about what his father could do to him, but he obviously cares about what he could do to you.

Oh, you don't regret a single second you spent to make it possible, but seeing that his father is trying to use you to get to him is infuriating.

You are not here to make things worse for Shoto, but to support him. And you plan to make it clear.

"Alright!." You shout, place your hands on your hips in the most exuberant front of bravado you can muster and nod, turning towards Endeavor with the widest and most confident smile can. "Let's do this!"

The fact that it was as close as you could get to All Might's famous smile is just a bonus, but you would be lying if you said you didn't take a certain sense of satisfaction at seeing his sneer becoming more pronounced.

>"Careful." The hero warns you, stepping forwards. "Few things can end you as fast as overconfidence."

In one swift and clearly practiced move, he rotates his upper body to take a quick jab at your midsection.

It's a good shot, and even if it's slower than you know he can be, it's not something you'd like to take.

As you see his attack come close to your body, you can't help but take a glance at your lone spectator, who looks like he's the one about to end with a fist-shaped brand.

And for a brief moment you share a glance, right before you feel the heat of the incoming punch, you wink at him, instantly overwriting his concern filled expression with confusion.

Feeling the heat of the blow before it can connect, you know exactly where it would hit you, and more importantly, how to get out of the way.

Against what your common sense told you, you take a small step closer to the hero, shifting your weight to your toes and raising your arms, quickly twirling to his right and to safety.

But before you can brag about it, he swiftly pivots on his right foot to deliver a second jab, this time with his left fist, and towards your chin.

While surprised by that, you didn't leave your guard down for long, throwing your arms over your head and using your knees and your back to bend backwards like a willow, seeing his fist fly mere inches above your nose.

He then pulls back and you stand up straight, happily looking at your relieved looking friend.

There is a pregnant pause as the elder Todoroki stares you down, wordlessly commanding you attention as he probably thinks about how to proceed.

>"The same results but without any sort of scaring, it seems." Shoto says with a hint of smugness in his voice, breaking the silence. "Maybe a bit kindness can be as good as contempt."

>"It's no secret that there is strength to be drawn from the milk of human kindness, Shoto." His father replies, stepping back and looking you up and down like a piece of meat again.

It's still as creepy as it was last time.

>"It's what drives small time heroes to do their best keep neighborhoods safe, but that's where their careers stagnate and die. It's talent, drive and training that brings the elite to the top." The hero explains, turning to look at his son. "She's good, but that's no surprise. She wouldn't be here otherwise."

"...I'm right here you know?" You tell him, and you could swear his flames flashed hotter at your interruption.

>"Yes, you are. But do you have anything to say?" He asks, obviously annoyed.

As a matter of fact, you do!

"Well, if you don't mind me askin', wouldn't it have made more sense to have Shoto use his quirk on me if the test is all about yours? Speakin' 'bout that… Can I use my quirk?" You ask, trying to stack the deck in your favor.

Yet his face tells you that you said something you really shouldn't have said.

For half a second, you are sure he's going to grab you by your intact horn and make sure you have none left, but his face softens just as quickly.

>"...Shoto. Would you use your flames on young Walker?" He asks, clearly and slowly.

>"No." Your friend laconically answers.

>"I hope that answers your question." Endeavor tells you, and for the first time since you first met him, he looks more tired than angry. "But yes, feel free to use your quirk."

All of his flames suddenly turn off as he…

Reaches forwards and gives you a single pat on the head. Uh?

>"Show me that you are not just good enough." He tells you, returning to his side of the circle and igniting once more. "Show us what a mixed quirk can do!"

>What do you do?

Good enough?
Good enough!?

"What a mixed quirk can do? What about the training it took me to wield it?" and "Pal, I didn't cross a goddamn ocean to be good enough!" Are some of the things you want to yell at him, but bite your tongue in the last second, huffing a puff of steam off your nose instead.

There are better ways to express your righteous indignation than taunting someone known to melt concrete at will.

"Alright! I'll show you!" You say, placing your left hand on your thigh and taking a step forwards, grinning from ear to ear as your fake bravado is replaced with the real deal, being further bolstered by the pride of having done so well last time.

And you are quickly forced to prove it to be more than just hot air, as he wordlessly steps forwards and fires another quick jab at you, straight at your left elbow.

Instantly, you can tell that he's shifted to a higher gear, as the flaming fist flying towards you doesn't looks like a simple sparring hit to be caught by coach's padded glove like last time, but like an actual professional's. You know he can be faster than that, but just knowing that he's putting some effort into it makes you feel satisfied with yourself.

The blow flies straight and true, but still flies over you as you quickly shrink yourself, lean to your right and keep walking forwards, craning your neck to keep both of his fists within your field of view.

The moment he pulls his arm back, you activate your quirk again, returning nigh instantly to your natural size with the speed of a bullwhip and the crack to match.

While Shoto, who has seen you reach such speeds before, is not surprised, his father certainly is, taking a tenth of a second before reigniting the flames on his hands that your sonic boom put out. Yet he does so with a smirk on his face.

It's a bit creepy, true, but you have no time to think about that, as another jab flies towards your right shoulder as you keep walking towards him.

Decided to catch lightning in a bottle a second time in a row, you shrink, lean to your left and continue walking forwards, easily avoiding his attack before returning to your normal size with a clap of thunder.

The third blow is not a jab at all, but a downwards punch aimed straight between your horns, giving you no chance to sidestep it without getting a new burn on one of your horns, head or shoulders.

So you don't, quickly shrinking yourself to be only a few inches tall and roll towards him, feeling his fist tap in a surprisingly soft manner against the wooden floor before standing tall again.

As soon as he does, you return to your normal size, setting off a third, the loudest, sonic boom right in front of his face, putting out even his mask and beard for an instant.

Considering you are barely breaking a sweat, you actually impress yourself.
>>
Then you realise you are trying to stare down a man thrice your age who has two feet of height over you. Who is also on fire. And inches away from you.

Then you look again at Shoto on the back, who is looking at you with rapt attention, with that little curve at the ends of his mouth you have learned to interpret as a smile.
He doesn't look worried anymore, why should you?

"Is that good enough?" You ask the hero, having to look almost straight up.

His hands stay off this time, as he crosses his arms and looks down at you.

>"Indeed. Your mix makes you incredibly hard to pin down." He says, idly pointing at you. "Your father's quirk provides you with overwhelming physical power and resilience, while your mother's allows you to both avoid harm and reduce threats."

He then turns to look at his son, but you speak first.

"It's not just my parents' quirks added together, you know?" You tell him loud and clear, to make sure both Todorokis are listening despite the possible hearing troubles. "It's my own new thing. My own quirk."

>"Made out of both of your parents' quirks." Endeavor points out. "A moot point."

"It's not that simple." You reply, shaking your head and focusing on Shoto. "We are our parents' children, and we always will be. But what we are and who we are are two different things. I'm my own person, and my quirk is mine and mine alone, and no one will ever be able to change that."

It's not new ground for you, but something you have thought about all your life, and something you have talked with Shoto before, with mixed results, so the first response catches you completely flat footed.

>"...That's an impressive amount of words to say nothing." The flame hero says, turning his back on you and walking away. "She's all yours Shoto. Spend the day as you please, but remember that she's here to train and that she won't be coming next week, so make it count."

And with that, he walks out of the room, leaving only you and Shoto in.

"...I hope at least you listened?" You ask Shoto, slumping forwards and feeling the wind leave your sails. "I'd like to at least feel like I'm doing something good for you..."

He quickly stands up and walks towards you.

>"Do not feel bad. He will never accept a viewpoint that reduces bloodlines' importance." Shoto says, giving you a soft pat in the back. "And if it makes you feel better, I will think about what you said."

"Really?" You ask him excitedly, happy that you are making some progress in helping him be happier.

>"Not now, but yes. I cannot say that I agree with you, but I'm starting to follow your logic." He explains, walking away for a couple of seconds and returning with a towel, handing it to you. "But for now, seeing that the Festival will take place next monday, what do you want to do?"

You think about that as you wipe the sweat off your brow.

Out of interest, can we do partial shrinking and growing or does it all have to stay proportional? Because that way we kept blasting out endeavour's flame made me think that if we can rapidly displace air as we punch by rapidly changing the size of our fist, we can hit things like a scaled-up mantis shrimp, which for them would be bad
>>
>>2589627
>can we do partial shrinking and growing or does it all have to stay proportional?

Literaly the first thing we did in our test to U.A. we grew only one of our arms as at the same time growing a rock and threw it. The thing is we still need time to do it the right way without splitling our muscles. So we can do it but we can't do it to fast without risking our body. Maybe that will be what we coukd train during the school trip.

>>
How viable would it be in the cavalry competition to have Ushi grow to max size and just carry her whole team on her shoulders? So that only people with certain quirks can reach our points?
>>
>>2589815
It depends on our starting point value and who is on our team. If we have the million points and a good enough defense, sure. If we have low points though, we'll want to have people with excellent reach for grabbing headbands, like Tsuyu, Jiro, and Ibara.
>>
>>2589822
Instead of winning, we team up with the million points holder, shrink them and the band to ant-size and put in a pocket. Flawless plan.
>>
>>2589831
It is not. Ants are fragile and pockets aren't good defense.
>>
>>2589503
Sorry, I'll pick 1d Shoto then
>>
>>2589815
Well a plan that was tossed around a bit was teaming with Kirishima, and growing him large because he would be more resilient than us. it's sort of viable.
>>
>>2589768
Momo can give us diversity with her quirk, She hust create small objects we grow then to the right size. Iida is the speed, to make sure we win't get in his way, Momo can give everyone that is working as the lower part of the horse, some skate rollers. Ushi can also use our shrik in anyone dumb enough to approach her and take out some of the competition horse. Not to mention the increased fire power we can get if Ushi makes Todoriki or the entire horse ( which she can because Momo could just pass a cord conecting the entire horse like she did witht he blanket during the villains attack.)

What to do... You give that a fair bit of thought.

It's hard to believe you just up and walked through a flurry of Endeavor's blows unscathed! But you can clearly remember doing it.

A bit of posturework and how to shift your center of gravity picked from your training sessions at the Tigers' Den, mixed with what Shoto beat into you last week about recognizing trajectories on the fly and reacting instantly and, as your sudden desire to go for a family sized meal, or at least mow the lawn with your teeth reminds you, your quirk and the years of fiddling and fine tuning your control over it enough to pull off such a stunt without falling to the floor or lodging your horns on the ceiling every time you shifted your mass.

All that, plus the reassuring presence of a friend who wanted you to succeed.

Looking back at it under that light, your success is not that surprising.

In a real fight, Endeavor would have easily blanketed in flames the area you were in when you shrunk instead of playing horrifying injury tag, so you file that part of the story for when you tell Momma about it.

Instead, you focus on the tiredness and hunger using your quirk that much usually gives you.
Usually. While you are certainly hungry, you are coping with the hypoglycemia way better than normal, and you aren't sure why.

With the Festival being so close and this being your last chance to train here before it, you decide that figuring out how did you do that should be your top priority.

"Let's go over this thing again a few times, with quirks this time. I want to have it downpat for the Festival!" You tell him, taking your position and letting the towel fall just outside the circle. "Think ya're up for whatever this is? Not sure if it counts as sparring."

>"Alright, it makes sense. If you master that, it will almost certainly stop anyone relying on melee attacks who has to face you on the third round of the festival, whatever the one on one event may be." He says, taking a moment to stretch his neck and shoulders before entering the circle and facing you. "Although I have to admit, I expected you to suggest getting something to eat."

"Oh, we can do that after this." You tell him as you lower your stance again and prepare for some more training. "Ah reckon I'll need a hot cup of joe after this tussle… Anyhoo, you ready for this?"

Considering a second later a blunt tipped icicle flies at your face, you assume that he was, indeed, ready.

Luckily, so were you.

It's a weird experience, spending an hour evading attacks without retaliating.

Being used to take and return hits, you take the chance to consciously analyze what you are doing and how you are doing it.

As punches, kicks and the occasional icicle try to hit your legs, arms, and body, you start to leave the dodging to your instincts and muscle memory, focusing on your breathing and what you can tell of your own blood sugar level.
>>
File: Shoto.jpg (50 KB, 501x700)

As you continue to shrink and return to normal, you can feel your guts protesting, a slight numbness all over your body and the stacking regular old tiredness, but beyond those warnings your body responds as well as it did after jumping off bed this morning.

It seems that keeping your head cool and your breath deep and steady kept your heart rate from accelerating too much. You aren't sure, but you think that all those factors combined allowed you to continue constantly using your quirk for longer than normal without blacking out.

By the end of your spar, you are vindicated in your assumption.

Sure, not a single strike nor ice shard touched you, but convection proved to be as much of a bitch as gravity, causing all the ice thrown around to give you goosebumps and leave you shivering anyway.

"...Y-you held back, didn't you?" You ask Shoto as you dig through your backpack for your tracksuit. "I've seen you i-instantly cover whole square y-yards in ice. Y-you did it to me last week!"

>"Yes. I figured resorting to attacks you cannot dodge would have been both pointless and disheartening." He answers, using the hot part of his quirk to warm himself and start melting the ice strewn around the room. "Doing so could have dissuaded you from improving on a good technique."

You shrug and put on your tracksuit anyway. The U.A. uniform is cute and all, but putting it on just after a sweat inducing workout is just a dumb idea.

With the cold under control, you then walk up to Shoto and grab his wrist.

"Now we go for something to eat!" You announce, bobbing in place. "I remember that nearby restaurant being quite good!"

>"It is." He assures you, then brings his free hand to his chin. "How odd. I just realized most of our conversations are either over lunch or in some kind of arena."

"Allow me to mix it up, then. We are going for dinner this time!" You tell him, as you drag him towards the door.

Like a good boy, he follows you through his home and out, till you stop smack-dab in the middle of the street. For about two whole minutes.

>"You do not recall where the shop is." Shoto suddenly says.

He wasn't asking. He just stated a fact.

"Nope." You instantly reply, sporting a sheepish smile and shaking your head.

>"...Follow me, then." He says, walking in what looks like a random direction with you in tow.

While Shoto doesn't exactly sprint, or power-walk, or moves in anyway that can't be described as a calm walk, you soon find yourself back on the bar of the small restaurant, loudly slurping a hot bowl of ramen next to him.

"I thought you prefered cold noodles?" You ask him after finishing your dish, while motioning for a refill.

>"I do." He answers, tentatively picking some noodles with his chopsticks. "I thought it was time to give the hot noodle dishes a chance."

It's an odd sentiment with an even weirder phrasing, but you can't blame someone for trying new stuff. Although you would have shamed him for not trying such a common fast food if he wasn't one of your closest friends.

As you wait for your second serving, an orange reflection on a pot makes you take notice of the time.

The sun is setting and you still are a long ways from Momma's house.

You jump to your feet and run the math, thinking about how, if you hurry and wolf down your plate without tasting any of it, you could run out to the station and get into the train, then run back to the house before Momma starts worrying…

But that'd be ditching Shoto.

Instead, you pull out your phone and text Momma.

"I'll get back late, don't worry." You send, intent on following it up with an explanation.

>"It's already late. Where are you? What are you doing?" Your mother replies in a barrage of texts before you can type your next message.

"At a restaurant, having dinner with Shoto." You quickly answer, before she can send any more questions.

This time, the answer takes minutes to arrive, making you check your bars.

>"Take as long as you need. But be careful on the train ride back and take a women-only cart if it's too late, hun." It reads.

"Will do." You send back before pocketing your phone once more, looking excitedly at your now refilled bowl and digging in.

You spend a couple of minutes slowly eating in companionable silence before you think of something to say.

"...has to face you on the third round of the festival, uh? You sounded mighty sure I'll get there, sugar." You say, pointing at him with your chopsticks.

>"If the last year's festival is any indication, the last round will be some sort of one on one combat between the last sixteen students." He explains, stirring what's left of his ramen. "Of those sixteen, let us say that twelve would be of the hero courses. Assuming that the two previous events test general performance and not any niches, and knowing that Class B lacks a second Recommended Student, I will make a conservative estimation and say that seven of those twelve will be from Class A."

He then takes a piece of beef with his chopsticks and brings it to his mouth before looking at you, as if asking for your opinion.

"...You have given a lot of thought to all of this, haven't ya?" You ask rhetorically. "I'll go out on a limb and say both of us should make it. Who do you think will be the other five? I'm thinking Momo, Fumikage, Mina, and Kirishima… Maybe Deku, but I'm not sure if he'll still have working limbs by that point. Why the seven-five split anyway?"

>"Yes, although the random nature of the events make any actual planning a useless endeavor." He answers after chewing. "About the split… since I know little about the B class, I assume they are, on average, as strong as our classmates. Otherwise, I would give more spots to our class, especially with the advantage gained by experience."

He then points back at you.

>"But you are right, mostly. Both of us along with Yaoyorozu are sure reach the third event, if only thanks to our sheer power and versatility. I am not sure about the other three, however, but Tokoyami and Kirishima are likely to follow." He continues "Midoriya will surely be there. I expect nothing less out of someone of his lineage, as will Bakugo, out of sheer competitive drive. Although I suspect you omitted him on purpose."

"Eh. I don't think about him all that much." You reply, waving your hand dismissively. "But I reckon we've never gone and talked with Deku about that. Shouldn't we, you know, confront him?"

>"No. We do not know how he might react to others knowing his secret." Shoto answers, shaking his head. "Right before the Festival starts, when he has no choice but going forwards. Only then should we corner him."

You bring your bowl to your mouth before replying, raising an eyebrow.

"You make it sound like we are going to break his legs." You joke, poking him in the ribs with your elbow before drinking your broth.

>"He does not need our help with that." Shoto points out, causing you to start laughing and blow out some soup out of your nose.

To his credit, he just gives you a couple of light pats on the back instead of a hard slam and making things worse.

"W-was that a joke?" You ask, looking at that slightly more pronounced upwards curve at the corners of his mouth.

>"Just an observation." He answers without dispelling his smile.

"Yeah, sure." You say, rolling your eyes. "Keep pullin' wool over your eyes if you want, but Ah know you are just hanging out and having a good time."

While his smile doesn't fade away, he looks down for a minute, making you think you had said something wrong. Again.

>"...I guess I am." He suddenly says. "I was not used to hanging out, yet you keep dragging me into social situations."

"I'm not apologizin' for being a friend." You tell him, crossing your arms. You frown at first, then just pout. "I mean… I think I'm doing a good job?"

It's not hard at all to believe that you could have fucked up at some point without realizing it.

He shakes his head and returns the hug.

>"I was not asking for an apology." He says, releasing you almost instantly from the hug. "I think I was thanking you."

"Ya think?" You ask, more incredulous than curious.

>"It is something new for me." He answers. "I like it so far."

"Don't tease me like that, then!" You tell him, giving him a soft punch in the shoulder and giggling a bit.

After dinner, you have a coffee and share a tray of taiyaki for dessert, doing smalltalk until you are… gently kicked out of the small restaurant, as the cook started to turn off lights and stack the chairs around you.

"I guess we should get moving... Let's split the bill?" You offer, taking out your wallet and pulling a couple of 1000¥ bills.

A small part of you wonders how long it'd take you to max that, but you flick the thought to the back of your mind, next to the wondering about what kind of heels would suit you better.

"Okay?.." You say, unsure of what to think about that. "Anyhoo, since when do we obey him? -cough- Cases in which he is in the same room notwithstanding. -cough-"

>"... We will pay half of the bill each." Shoto says, nodding.

"Sugar, I ate at least twice as much as you." You tell him, placing your bills on the counter.

>"I can always foot the bill." He says, pushing one of the bills at you.

You don't answer, opting to take the bill, mumble things that aren't words and blow some steam off your nose.

Even though the stars are… few, far between and dim… Damn, you miss the countryside...
Even though the stars are out when you come out of the restaurant, you don't regret a second of it. Both the food and the company were great, what else could you have asked for?

The only moment you feel a bit of apprehension is when, after returning to Shoto's home for your things and starting your trip back, a bunch of still-young-looking and drunk salarymen started to discreetly surround the bench you were waiting the train on, but the your train arrived before you had to find out what they were mumbling amongst themselves and if it pertained to you.

You are sure you could handle yourself, but getting into a fight would mean more paperwork, even if you didn't use your quirk.

So you quietly ride on the women-only cart, having to endure the company of drunk salarywomen instead. At least, they smelled less bad.

When you arrive to the house, you only have time to rinse out the sweat off you with a quick shower and then drop to bed.

The next morning you get ready and take the train as usual, checking the news on your phone. This Hero Killer is starting to prove himself a real threat to societ-

Then someone sits next to you.

You are rather surprised to see Daisy of all people taking a seat next to you.

...Especially with a third of the cart seats still free.

Even worse, a little bit of shifting on your seat tells you that he sat on a bit of your skirt as well.

So it's less like a surprise party and more like the stepping on dogshit kind of surprise.

>>
>>2596694

>>
>>2596719
Never ever. Ushi isn't a lesbian, and dude looks like a lady.
The best way to get Bakugo to back off is restrained civility. Remember that his parents got together due to his mom being assertive and sexually aggressive. That's how we got his (unwanted) attention to begin with, that little dominance game on the bus. Dude's probably big time into dominant, aggressive women.
>>
>>2596752
Ushi may not be a lesbian, but I wouldn't mind if she was bi. Still I don't ship Ushi and Daisy, that pairing sounds awful.

Also are you implying he's into woman like his mother, how Oedipus of you.
>>
>>2596790
For most people, the first example of romantic relationships they see is their parents. Amd from that example comes what we perceive as "normal" romantically.
Bakumilf is an aggressive woman, so to Bakugo, the woman being forward and aggressive is probably seen as "normal" when it comes to romance.

While there are few things that get on your nerves as quickly as being tethered, you manage to keep yourself from taking any rash actions.

After all, he did go slightly out of his way to deliver Deku's share of the barbecue, even if it was for ulterior motives.

So even if you feel that telling him off would be completely within your rights, you choose to be the bigger person and take a deep breath instead, forcing a smile and trying to look at him like you would anyone else.

"Howdy. How was your weekend, sugar?" You ask him, as honestly as you could manage. "I know it's tuesday, but since the gals and I had our thing goin' on, I thought you may have done somethin' cool too, you know?"

Immediately after that however, you have trouble keeping your smile up, as he slowly wipes his cheek and glares at you for another half a minute before wiping his hand on the seat.

You don't even recall the last time you spit when talking with someone!

"...Sorry." You say, slowly and consciously moving your tongue to make sure you don't spit on him again.

>"...You spat on me." He points out, looking at his his hand and then glaring at you. "And today is tuesday anyway."

"Yeah, Ah know." You reply, softly, slowly and with a shrug. "But we didn't talk yesterday, didn't we?"

>"Are you trying to be offensively condescending, or is it just natural?" He asks, keeping his glare pointed at you.

It feels weird, as his normal tone of white hot anger sounds… Just as angry, but not hot.
He doesn't yell it at you, yet the mix of frustration and disappointment in his voice hits twice as hard.

"I… I guess... I'm sorry?" You say, somehow feeling like you need to make amends. "I tend to run my mouth-"

>"Zip it, your breath smells like diabetes." He interrupts you, getting you to stop talking. "You are way more likeable that way."

You blink and nod, not entirely sure of what's going on. The only thing you know for sure is that you owe him for something.

>"Much better." He says.

And you are pretty sure you see a smug smile flicker on his face for an instant, before his face returns to that cold, angry expression.

You spend the rest of the train rain hugging your backpack and looking at your shoes, distracting yourself with silly thoughts.

Does your breath really smell that sweet? Maybe, you like to cover the entire pancake in syrup. U.A. has a pretty uniform, and you think you look cute in it. Your calves look a bit thin, have you lost weight? Doesn't feel like it. Has your training taken the fat away, then? When will Momma find a doc for you? When will you get to pick your bike? Do you really have the time to study traffic laws and for the midterms? Is your voice annoying? You had never thought about it before. Your ears have been itchy for over a week, maybe you should-

>"Hey, Briskets." Daisy snaps you out of your navel gazing, pulling you up from your seat by the arm. "This is our stop. Keep ruminating and you'll end in central Tokyo."

"Tha-" You start, then stop yourself, nodding wordlessly.

>"Looks like you can learn something after all." He notes, letting go of your arm.

As off as it was feeling bad during the train ride, the small rush of happiness at the sort of compliment feels even weirder. You aren't the savviest one when it comes to social interaction, but you aren't sure of what happened, nor of why are your emotions so out of whack.

Even as the morning classes come to an end and you start your way to the cafeteria, after hours of silent writing and highlighting, the train ride still gnaws at the back of your head.

At least you'll get a nice lunch with your friends to talk about it before the wildcard of a class that is Foundational Hero Studies.

>"Hey, Walker!" A familiar, female voice calls you out, prompting you to stop on your tracks and look around.

After a second of looking around and at least three people bumping into you, you find the owner of the voice.

Even if you have only seen her in her costume since you met her in person, you recognize her immediately. It wouldn't matter if she's going by Kayama Nemuri or by Midnight, you are sure you'd be able to recognize her.

"Midnight?" You ask, not quite panicking, but certainly surprised. "Was there something wrong with my assignment? I know most don't don't see 'em but Ah swear those colors exist!"

>"Not really, it wasn't particularly inspired, but there was nothing wrong with it." She says before putting her hand on your shoulder. "But I didn't come here to talk about my classes."

"I'm fine with whatever you want." You reply, trying and failing to not sound too giddy.

>"...First time I hear that from a girl." She says, laughing. "Well, the reason I came looking for you is your Foundational Hero Studies class of today. All Might decided to reschedule a lesson meant for later in the trimester to today's class, and wanted me to have a talk with you. It doesn't have to be today, but I think it would help."

With a single step, she comes to stand behind you and place her free hand on your other shoulder, shaking you a bit.

>"So, want to come have lunch with me at my office?" She finishes, playfully tipping your hat over your eyes.

"A talk? Is anyone else coming?" You ask, smiling wide and pulling your hat back to normal. "And is it mandatory?"

>"No, it's a private affair. Just you, me, a soundproof room, and a collection of whips." She answers, counting down with her fingers. "And… yes and no. You don't have to come with me, but the talk should happen at some point, and it is within my area of expertise."

I think he’s asking why it wasn’t an opposed roll.

I think that if it was an opposed roll, we’d be less inclined/justified in role playing Ushi’s reaction as opposed to just going along with the result.

My guess? Sex-Education and hopefully this will male Ushi a little bit more socialy aware (increase face dice) or give her a skill in more social like situations.

If your emotions were actually attached to your face, you surely would have given yourself whiplash.

After spending hours confused and somewhat under the weather, your spirits spring back up faster than small town gossip, feeling as giddy as you can be.

Sure, you didn't come to any conclusion about what the heck happened at the train, but you have something far better, heck, someone far more likeable to think about.

"Sure!" You tell her, almost positive that your reflection would show stars in your eyes.

Excited, you take a step closer to her and start shuffling around her in some sort of solitary two-step, waiting for her to lead the way. You are just giddy!

For a couple of seconds, she just stands there and looks at you with a smile on her face, giggling for a bit.

>"Let's go then, fangirl." She then says, turning around and motioning for you to follow with her finger. "I have a cake waiting for us and a couple of salads too, to do away with the guilt."

You follow her through the labyrinthine hallways of the U.A. main building, taking turns and stairs you had never seen before, away from where you know the teachers' lounge to be to a last hall lined with doors, each with a plaque next to it, and all of those with a teacher's name written on it.

Of course, you enter the embroidered black leather one with the plaque that says "Midnight", but you make sure to take a gander at the other doors.

Like the double one you see next to Snipe's name, looking pretty similar to the kind of door you remember seeing at an old mock-western town saloon, or the glass one with Present Mic's name next to it, along with a currently off "On Air" sign, or the solid slab of concrete in front of Cementoss'.

Or the more curious of them all, the featureless white one with the shiny new plaque with All Might's name at the end of the hall. It's actually one of the only two doors that you actually need the plaque to know whose office it is, but Mr. Aizawa's door being absolutely plain was something you expected.

But that's another thing that you push to the back of your mind however, as you enter the dimly illuminated room that is Midnight's office.

"Whoa…" You let out in awe as you look around, taking in the decor under the candle-shaped lights.

For all the whips (bullwhip, riding crop, snake whip, cat 'o nine tails and a flogger, to be precise.) and cuffs in the walls, the only thing you may call cuestionable is the changing curtain in the corner, with her costume white bodysuit hanging atop it.
Then she turns the dial on the wall and the lights turn a normal, boring white.

Much like her classes, once you look beyond the suggestive dressing, it's a perfectly functional office with its desk, computer, chairs, a TV, a coffee table and a couple of sofas too.

It's there that a pretty good looking chocolate cake awaits you, next to a couple of lame looking salads.

>"Considering the limitations law places against building the real deal in a school, I think I made it pretty atmospheric." Midnight explains, taking off her jacket and mask.. "The cuffs don't even work, but it gets the imagination running, and that's what counts."

Somehow, even if you didn't even know of this place beforehand, nor ever expected her to actually use it that way, it's still a bit disappointing.

Wait a second...

"...Why is this place soundproof?" You ask, noticing that you can't actually hear any of the school's normal background noise, only a coffee machine in the room and the hands of the clock on the wall.

>"I adore that little detail, it gets all sorts of rumors going! Oh, and come sit down. We'll use the screen." She tells you, taking a seat on one of the sofas and patting the space next to her.

You don't think twice before sitting on the spot, having a good view of both the T.V. screen and the food on the table.

>"Don't tell anyone, but the real reason this room is soundproof is because of Mic having his office next door. When I asked to have my office soundproofed too, to be safe, no one questioned it." Midnight continues, picking up a remote and turning the T.V. on.

The U.A. Logo spins briefly on the screen before a familiar video starts playing.
It's actually the first time you see it, but you can clearly remember your Battle Trial, even if the video has no audio.

Midnight lets the video play up to the moment you shrink Shoto.

You… You don't look so good in that frame. You can't quite remember what were you thinking as you held him, but any and all naughty things would fit your expression.

A chilling sensation runs down your spine as you remember that anyone in your class could ask for a copy of this....

>"Now, I didn't bring you here to judge you for this, but heroics nowadays is at least fifty percent public image, and this right here, had it happened on the streets, could have easily shaped the public's opinion of you." Midnight explains, calmly cutting two slices of cake and placing one on your plate, completely disregarding the salads. "All Might was eager to get this outsourced and barely gave me any guidelines, so we'll do this my way."

She then takes a small pause to try the cake, which you do as well. It's actually really good!

>"I know exactly what happened there, it brings back memories." She continues, pointing at the screen. "But I want you to try and lie to me like I didn't know."

"Why?" You ask, hoping it'd be something you can argue against. "I'm awful at that."

>"That's the point, to see how you chose to do it." She says with a smile. "Then I can give you a crash-course in how to act and spin your words so others believe it. It should help you avoid doing that again unless it's on purpose. Which is pretty fun, to be honest."

"I'm sorry, but Ah don't see how this can tie in with Foundational Hero Studies." You say, knowing that at this point, you are pretty much buying time.
>>
>"There'll be a lot of arguing, and you'll probably need to keep your true feelings at bay, trust me on that." She comments, looking uneasy for a second. "There are reasons why that subject is usually left for later… Anyway, don't worry about messing up, I won't resent or punish you for something I asked you to do."

I like having relatively low Face, but it IS something we need to fix before we go Pro if we don't want to get DEVOURED by the media.
And if we'd just taken the +1 way back when, we'd have fewer retards who don't understand ORE complaining about the dice every time we fail the roll we're comically incompetent at.
And for the thing on the train, it's more that I think Ushi asking Midnight about this kind of thing makes sense, than that I'm genuinely worried. Hell I don't think Bakugo was even CONSCIOUSLY being a scummy pickup artist. That's just how he is with people, personality of rotting garbage and all that. Hell he may have been trying to be "nice" by his own weird, fucked up standard.
>>
>>2604710
I don't think Ushi would think that Bakugo's behavior is something to ask about. She's dealt with him being insulting before, It's kinda meta gamey to ask about this particular event.
>>
>>2604749
Ushi spent that entire train ride self-flagellating because of it. If Bakugou keeps it up I'd hope someone would at least notice if she doesn't end up venting to someone. And considering she probably bottled that shit back in America where she didn't have the support she has in Japan... We need the Gals on the case.
>>
>>2604812
Well reading the update you notice that Ushi has being awfully quiet during this day. Maybe Momo would approach or maybe one of the girls (most likely Mina) if they noticed that. After all it is strange to see someone as genki as Ushi getting sundely so quiet.

Lie to her?..

You awkwardly shuffle in your seat, trying to think of a way to do it. You already told her you are an awful liar, she can't expect you to actually pull a convincing lie!

If someone came upon the frame frozen on the screen, you don't know what to do to save face, if there was anything to do at all! That's a cow in heat, about to lose control. They'd say, and you'd be left flailing there, doing pretty much the opposite to what you set out to do, and if the media works here in the same way it does back home, you'd also drag Shoto down with you.

It wouldn't be wrong to say that you don't know what to do, but saying that you know a thousand ways to fuck up would be a lot more accurate.

Midnight seems to to notice you hesitance, as adjusts her posture and looks at you intently for a couple of seconds.

>"Think about it this way, Walker." The teacher starts, obviously trying to encourage you. "It's not about the facade you choose, but confidence. No matter what you say, if say with confidence, everyone will stop to consider your words. Just think of something plausible and say it with a straight face. Once you manage that, the rest will come to you quite easily. "

Confidence… You can do that. How to project it without coming off as mere smugness is another matter.

Luckily, you have one of the best examples of self-confidence you know of sitting in front of you. By observing her right now and remembering old interviews, you piece something together, casually leaning back into the sofa, crossing your legs and holding your elbow in on one of your hands, leaving the other free to wave and point.

"You may think that that image is something I shameful to cover up, but in reality, the cold forced me to blush, and the stress of the exercise along with my quirk usage was making it hard to breathe." You say, pointing first at the screen and then waving your hand in Midnight's general direction, before resting your chin on your palm. "Manipulating your lungs and blood vessels causes major stress in one's body. That's all."

Even though you are sure you have the poker face of a dang hand mirror, you have been lied to... quite honestly, more times than can possibly know. Putting what you have learned from the times you eventually found out along with the fact that presenting a good alternative as a fact is far easier than just obscuring the truth, as all your failed lies in the past tried to do, you think your performance is as good as Midnight's first interview, but with at least two more layers of clothing.

Midnight seems to evaluate your words, looking intermittently between you and and the frozen frame in the screen as you wait for her to tell you how did you do.

>"...Uh. To think I was so sure you were relishing your newfound dominance over the cute boy in the palm of your hand. I know I would have." She says after some deliberation, shrugging. "I guess you don't really need this after all."

"I don't get it. Does that mean I pass?" You ask, picking back up your plate and shoving a mouthful of cake into your mouth.

>"...Was that your lie?" She asks back, smirking. "In hindsight, it took you awhile to "remember" that."

"...Can't I pretend that was the real deal?" You ask in response after swallowing, balancing another forkful of cake in front of your face. "It's less embarrassing that way."

>"Not anymore." She answers, with a smile that makes you think that she's not only content, but amused as well. "Well, that was a surprise… Have you been practicing since the Battle Trial?"

"...I have talked with lots of people. Does that count?" You ask, smiling sheepishly and prompting the teacher to shake her head. "Then no. I've been too busy training for the Festival."

>"Well, you seem to more or less know what to do." Midnight says, tapping her lower lip. "All there's to do is getting you to do that without staring at the wall for a minute. I'll give you some pointers after lunch, but you'll need to take some time alone to practice with a mirror, got it?"

"I guess I can talk to myself..." You answer, imitating her and tapping your lip as well.

Maybe talking to Babe would help. Your ox plushie has never failed you.

>"On the other hand, if arousal in the field becomes a problem, some time alon-" Midnight explains until you cut her off.

"Can we please talk about something else, please?" You blurt out, feeling your cheeks heat up.

>"...And you keep getting cuter." She says, pinching your nose for an instant. "Sure, what do you want to talk about?"

You take a second to think about it. A chance to speak in private with Midnight of all people, in private…

It's not that odd actually. She's a teacher at U.A, after all.

But it is still a great opportunity to hear what one of your idols thinks about you, especially in light of what you read the other day.

"What do you think about me?" You ask, leaning a bit closer to her and waving your hand towards yourself, hoping she won't think of you as self centered. "My quirk, costume, appearance… The whole shebang."

She looks a bit surprised for an instant, but her face settles on a soft smile after that.

>"It's always hard to disappoint a fan, but I might have to do it. I don't know you all that much yet, and you still have some years left to define the path you want to take as a hero." She explains, throwing back her head and looking at the ceiling. "I've been teaching for a few years now, and seeing how you kids push themselves to carve your own niche in the world is still one of my favorite parts. I wouldn't want to spoil it with too many opinions."

She then sighs and straightens her back, turning to look at you.

>"On a more superficial level though…" Midnight says, looking you up and down, as well as the screen. "Even if it lacks inherent offencive and defensive uses, your quirk is more than strong enough for heroics, and that's before all the training you'll get here."

She then picks up the remote again and rewinds the video, until it shows you and Grapes approaching the building the Battle Trial took place in, before you got Shoto and way before Dark Shadow rang your bell like it was New Year's Eve.

>"Your costume works… And that's pretty much it. It looks sturdy and reliable, and the colors mix well together, but it looks too much like work clothes and not enough like a hero's costume. Not that you can't make it work, but if you want a chance to be in the spotlight, you'll need to compensate for its blandness. A strong character or a gimmick can do that for you." She says, shrugging at first and then smirking. "Or you can take the path of least resistance and take advantage of your looks."

>"Blonde, tanned and curvaceous are all tried and true eyecatchers. " Midnight continues, pointing at your bangs, your cheeks and then, with both hands, at your chest. "Pretty much all the other bovine mutants I've met have been male, so I don't know if it's anything special for girls, but as far as my eyes can tell, you lack any physical traits that would you unrelatable or undesirable to the general public, while still being easily identified as a "cowgirl". Other than that… Well, the broken horn makes you look serious."

"Serious?" You sneak in the question before she continues.
>>
>"New heroes usually need a striking first impression to be taken seriously, like a flashy fight or here at U.A. a remarkable performance in their last Sports Festival, but a prominent scar like that tells everybody that you have already seen real action" She explains before placing a hand on your shoulder. "Now, would you mind telling me why are you asking? I spend a lot of time swelling students' confidence amongst other things, but I didn't expect you to have any problems with your image."

You don't need to think your answer, choosing to just come clean with your reasons.

"I read some... Stuff... Online, about what people thought of my class after the ambush and… some not-so-pleasant comments came up." You explain, briefly rubbing your temples and choosing to not add "mainly about me" at the end of that line. Then you notice the intensity in her face. While it doesn't seem to be directed at you, she looks mad. "Not a problem, really! I'm already used to that kinda thing but… yeah, that's the main reason why I'm asking you what you think..."

Just when you are sure she's about to yell something, Midnight pinches the bridge of her nose instead and sighs.

>"...It really was dumb to hope you wouldn't find out, wasn't it?." She says, sounding flat out sad. "Usually, it's the seniors who are being chased by the media and talked about in the internet, and they know by then how to deal with it and what to show. But that attack shifted all the eyes and pressure to you freshmen. All I can hope for is that neither you nor any of your classmates pays any mind to what people with only the vaguest idea of what you can do say."

"So, we should just ignore the haters?" You ask her, finishing your cake and tilting your head sideways.

>"The brown-nosers too." She answers, nodding. "They can be more fun, but you shouldn't trust what either of them says."

You then reach for one of the salads, not exactly excited about it. Having the biology to digest cellulose doesn't make it any more enticing, as it goes the same way through your chambered stomach as it does through cattle's.

It makes anything other than new or known to be tasty plants to be a heavy decisio-

>"When you are done staring at that bowl, we can get to the bullet points of public speaking." Midnight tells you with clear amusement on her tone, pulling you out of your own mind and making you notice that she was done now.

Thus you scarf the rather bland bowl of lettuce and cucumber and focus on the teacher, paying close attention to everything she has to tell you.

While learning to hide and bend the truth isn't something you are proud of, by the time you go back to Classroom 1-A you are sure that you have the know-how to do it if you need to.

Mineta stares at you on your way to your seat a bit more intensely than usual, but you attribute it to the effects of the bounce on your step you have since you left Midnight's office.
>>
Soon enough, your Foundational Hero Studies teacher slams the door open, dramatically entering. You are not sure of what makes it dramatic, but All Might's walk to the teachers' desk is still a sight to behold.

"I know most of you prefer our practical exercises, but there's a few things I'd like to talk about today! Don't worry though, it's still an important lesson on heroics." All Might says, opening a small manilla folder and pulling out a thin stack of papers. "But since Eraserhead told me to make sure we are all on the same page before breaching the subject, I made a small diagnostic quiz! Non-graded, of course!"

Instead of the usual round of cheering All Might's activities usually cause, only awkward coughing and disappointed sighs were heard as he passed down the paper sheets.

"After months of planning to capture a deadly villain, you manage to corner him. He then reveals that he has a detonator rigged to make two nearby busy office buildings to collapse and he'll use it if he is captured, but will leave it behind if you let him get away. You know that he has the means to do it, but you have no way to know if he is telling the truth. And you also know that it could take months to have another chance at capturing him.

Do you:

>A) Let him go, accepting that the mission was a failure, but without endangering any civilians.
>B) Call his bluff and go for the capture, risking the civilians' lives.
>C) Call for an evacuation and chase him after some minutes, hoping that the police would get most if not everyone out of the buildings and that you can catch the villain.
>D) Resort to lethal force. This way, no innocents are at risk, but a criminal surely dies.

Be prepared to defend your answer."

A quick look around tells you that most of your classmates are as confused as you are by this, and only Deku, Kyoka and Daisy look done, which is somewhat worrying considering it's a single question.

Well there's no better try than this without endangering every one of those innocents. And trusting the police to do their job like we do ours isn't at all optimistic.

All the other options mean that the villain might rig more buildings with explosives, or trigger the current explosives, maybe with a second detonator or something. The fact that i am in this position in the first place makes the investigation leading to it a failure. There are plenty of circumstances that might change things, but they can’t be assumed. And of course, realistically, if I’m not good enough at it, D becomes B. No course of action will actually have sure or certain results.

Use a delaying tactic to give the police as much time as possible. Ask him about his plans, get him to explain his motivations, that sort of thing. Try talking him down if possible, but know when to quit if he gets too ajitated. Even if it doesn't work, the evacuation gets more time.

It's not cleared in the question if we are working along or not and surrely if we know the guy could do it and had a extended investigation we could fo that. This questions are all a good point but can only be used in different scenarios and at a certain level, for example using lethal force to cripple a criminal should be bad. Ushi would know since she broke the bones of that firematch guy. But straigth up killing is bad.
>>
>>2607901
The anwser still imply we can or are working with the police as it was stated before. Besides a investigation that takes so much time seems like something that definetly would involve the police.

We'd probably decide in the heat of the moment. Without having experienced battles against that villain or used lethal force before... We don't know what we'd do.

>>2608275
But anon we experienced battle. That's what happend during the invasion of the USJ. We faced the villain used a somewhat lethal force (we broke his bones) crippling him then we went out and saved the rest of our group, while we believed that our teachers could handle that we went out and rescued the rest of our classmates.
>>
>>2607720
>>C) Call for an evacuation and chase him after some minutes, hoping that the police would get most if not everyone out of the buildings and that you can catch the villain.

>>

But a hero can't do everything. Just need to remember what Ushi did in the USJ invasion. She couldn't go help everyone and relied on her friends to do it. So why shouldn't we intrust the safety of the civies to the police too?
>>
>>2607720
If it’s been months of planning then you have probably not come alone to the faceoff. Stay in close proximity to the villain while your partner/sidekick handles the evacuation. You would probably have some way to contact them if this operation has had even a little thought
>>
>>2608801
This is also true i mean come on who (besides All Might) wouldn't be geared with at least a communication device to keep in touch with each other?
>>
>>2608842
Even if we can communicate, there is no guarantee that we would always have sidekicks or partners close enough to provide assistance. Whether they are distracted by other crimes, or just too far away.
These sort of questions don't work if you just go "oh, I would have help", because its supposed to gauge what you would do if it was just you and the bad guy.
>>
>>2608854
If it was supposed to be us and just the bad guy why there is a option to trust the police. Not call the police and then hope they can evacuate. The C anwser already shows that we have police support. It also said we did a investigation during mouths to catch a guy like that what would Ushi do during those mouths? She wouldn't barge alone she would gather help and THEN she would try to arrest the guy.
>>
>>2608890
I meant in regards to heroes and villains. Police don't count. They're like henchmen for the good guys.
>>

>Write-in: "If the villain doesn't kill people, C; if they do, D. A hero can't just let villains go because of a threat, or every villain would start doing it, but if the villain isn't a habitual murderer it's not right to just risk people's lives when there's an alternative. If they are a habitual murderer, though, then letting the villain go still risks people's lives anyway, and there's no guarantee that they don't just blow up the building even if we let them go; therefore, the top priority is taking down the villain before they can use the detonator, even if that means you have to kill them."
>>
It doesn't take you long to circle "C", judging it to be the closest of the options to what you'd actually do in such a contrived situation.

Then you turn the sheet sideways and begin putting your issues with the question into ink. While you try to make it sound diplomatic and polite, it's hard for you to not complain about how you seemingly sat around with your thumbs up your butt for months.

It may have been necessary to simplify the situation up to that point to make it fit in a single page, or maybe it was so short to leave time for the actual lesson, or maybe even something you don't even know about. You are here because you don't know everything, being a student and all that… But still, would this happen?

How does months of chasing someone end in… a one-on-one faceoff… at an alley… maybe?

It's so infuriatingly vague!

It only takes you a minute, two at most, but when you are done scribbling, you are sure that no one would be able to guess that it was a multiple choice question. You could have gone on, but after the supplementary flowchart you realize that the only point left to drive anywhere is your pens into the desk, but nowhere on the sheet it said that you had to pick a single option anyway.

"Pens down, everybody!" All Might suddenly calls, barely a minute after you finished rambling on the page. "Leave the page as it is! Remember that it's not graded!"

For a brief moment you wonder if this is the way japanese tests work, short and fast. But the look of surprise and even frustration on most of your classmates tells you that this was as much of a surprise to them as it was to you.

Another surprise is what he does with the sheets after collecting them, stacking them on his desk. At first you think he's separating them in four, a pile for each answer, but he only makes three stacks, and one of them seems to be only two sheets tall.

Once he has everything in order, he goes to stand besides the desk, looking at the whole class.

"A hero has to make decisions in a span of seconds. Even deciding if you are going to interfere in an ongoing incident is something a pro must be able to do in an instant. Even if there is no good outcome in sight, you will have to make a choice." He starts, picking up the tallest stack from his desk and then waving his free hand to the other two still on the desk. "Most of you didn't pick any of the four alternatives, probably thinking about the consequences of each one. Don't worry about it though, that's what we are here for! Some others chose an alternative, thinking it the best one... And a couple others wrote their own solutions."

"That may work out here, but don't try it at the midterms!" The hero points out with a brief laugh before coughing and returning to his lecture. "What was I saying?.. Right! Whatever your choices are, they will have consequences that you may need to adress."

"No hero is perfect, and everytime you are dispatched there's a chance that you'll be stuck between a rock and a hard place." All Might says, he then looks up, smiling wide. Even if what he's saying sounds rather bleak, just looking at him lets you know that it'll get better. "What am I getting at? Commitment and confidence."

"It's not only about making a decision either, but whenever you make a decision that puts you or others at risk, even if you had barely any time to think about it, you need to be sure that it was the right choice, to know deep inside that it is the best you can do." He explains. "A hero must be sure of their actions, never paralyzed by fear or doubt… But not rash, or even worse, leaving it to chance."

"So, no deers-in-the-headlights moments for us?" You whisper to Momo, sitting next to you.

>"It makes sense." She whispers back. "If you hesitate and don't turn in time at a fork, you are sure to crash."

"Those are the reasons why I wanted all of you to think about how to defend and explain your answer, to make sure you gave it some thought." The hero finishes, returning the tallest stack to the desk and picking up the top sheet of the shortest stack, leaving the others alone. "Now, let's see what you answered, starting with the ones that came up with their own solutions!.. Let's see... Young Midoriya! Could you tell us what your answer was?"

>"All Might! Of course!" The green haired boy instantly and awkwardly replies, then takes a moment to order his ideas before starting to count with his fingers. "Well, I picked option "C", but I wrote a note on the quiz explaining why I thought that was the best option, as I made the assumption that the villain would keep to his word. Since I had been on his case for months, I assumed that I'd know at least that much."

>"My second point was the fact that he tried to negotiate, even when two collapsing buildings would be the perfect distraction to escape. To me, that meant that either he didn't want to do it, or was bluffing." Deku continues, continuing his finger countdown. "And the last point was back-up. Any villain smart enough to require a months long investigation is also smart enough to warrant a team up with other heroes, who'd help keep an eye on him until the police evacuates the buildings… Is that okay, All Might?"

"<Yes!>" The teacher answers, in english and accompanied with a thumbs up. "The other one… Young Walker! Could you explain your answer?

You swallow saliva and go on a long spiel burrowing a bit from all of the options, maybe using too many words to say "I'd do my best to save everyone" by repeating verbatim what you had written, but trying to improvise on the spot would most likely than not end with you tasting your own shoes.

"Option "D" is supposed to be safer for the civilians, but I'd rather not kill the villain. If he doesn't let me talk him down, I'd stall him, giving the police as much time as possible to evacuate. Only then I'd go on the offensive, and even then, for a capture." You conclude, doing your best to say just only what you mean. "I reckon that'd be good enough, right?"

After that came the options, with quite a few surprises.

Daisy picking "D" wasn't one of them, but the fact that Mina, Denki, Shoji and Kyoka were the only others to actually pick an option in the couple of minutes allowed certainly was.

Both Denki and Mina said that they didn't want to risk civilians and just trusted their guts, picking "A".

Shoji went with "C", saying that it would be almost impossible for the villain to shake him off at that point.

The fact that Kyoka choose "D" was the big surprise, but even if it sounded cold to you, she had a point. Letting a "deadly" villain go, with the lives of hundreds in his hands was too dangerous. He could just detonate the buildings for fun after running off.

After your tiny exposition, All Might continues with his class, showing you why the question was so vague, at least in part. Turns out that the morality issues you are just being introduced to tend to be waved off if you give too many numbers, as you could easily detach yourself from the question and go for the best equation…

It doesn't answer all your questions, but it's something to think about at the end of the class, as you start your routine of cleaning everyone's mess. Why is the floor so damn dirty!?

When you return to the classroom with your trusty mop and cart, you find that the teacher is still there, carefully trying to free a book taped to the desk in a way that can't be seen from your desks.

Sadly, Connive doesn't apply here.

>>
Man are we terrible at face rolls.
>>
>>2620136
We did crit a face roll not too long ago.
>>
>>2620136
We got a pair of 10s on a face roll the last time we rolled.
>>
>>2620143
>>2620145

Doesn't mean we aren't terrible at face rolls.

I'd ask for RD, but there's literally none that apply, so...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>>2620154
>I'd ask for RD

You shouldn't.
>>
>>2620154
Not so fast Mic! We still have 2 free RD to put anywhere we want! Not trying to be an annoyance but you should call a vote to see if we want to spend those now.

>>2620173

No.
>>
>>2620173
While technically true, now really doesn’t make sense.
>>
>>2620173
I would rather not. Besides it's not like Allmight managed to win the face roll. Guess it's another Iida events (were both people fail the face roll and shenanigans happen.)
>>
>>2620453
All Might got two 3s, is that not enough?
>>
>>2620503
Ushi is very trusting.
>>
>>2620173
I would agree to putting a face die down here not sure what it would be for though just heroes I guess?
>>
>>2620173
No

It's on the last page and hasn't been archived yet.

Holy shit
>>
>>2621076
Yeah.
I want to push a last update before archiving.
Then I'll get my shit together and then make a new thread.
>>
does Ushi have a hero name yet?
>>
>>2621499
Not officially, though people have had ideas.
>>
>>2621499
I think it's Lonestar. To make a pun with the american heritage and the quirk were we loan some of the object weigth.
>>
>>2621499
>>2621517
See
>>2621509

But I hope it's Buckaroo Bonsai.
>>
>>2621525
What about just "bonsai" ? I think "buckaroo" might feel too childish.

My personal favorite
>Japanese american
>Buckaroo matches cowboy theme
>bonsai because trees
>Fucks with the laws of physics
>>
I think Longhorn was my favorite name suggestion I recall seeing while binging on the archives.
>>
>>2621545

Also I just love how it coincidentally works well with Ushi's entire character.
>>
>>2621545
>Attempt to get the name
>Get crushed in the avalanche of legal paper the lawsuit MGM serves us.
>Our Quirk can't save us from this.
>>
>>2621499
Yes, it's Alamoo
>>
>>2621563
Hey, Gran Torino did fine. And we're even changing the name a little.
>>
>>2621575
Dude, no.

>>2621517
It was Loanstar, because Ushi borrows mass.

But anyways I support >>2621545
>>
5th from the bottom
>>
>>2621517
Loan star is better. Sounds less like a racist charicature. Like>>2621525
Does.
>>
>>2621696

It's not racist.
>>
>>2621609
>>2621696

Loanstar has my vote.

I think Ushi would lean more on the novelty of an American Hero in Japan than on her mutation especially her cow traits
>>
>>2621722
Im not saying buckaroo bonzai is racist. It just sounds racist. And in a buisness about perception, its a fine line we sont want to get close too.
>>
I suggest Texas Ranger for her hero name.

Apologies if I missed somebody else already chiming in with that.
>>
>>2621749
Its a decent name, but too tied with a location that isnt here. Maybe just Ranger or something.
>>
I actually really dislike Loan Star/Lone Star Mostly because I fully expect that to be already taken by someone else. Also Lone Star beer is a thing.
>>
>>2621753
Actually, you know, just Ranger sounds pretty good.

>>
...Fuck.
Sorry guys.
I'll do better next thread.
This one is now archived.

>>2621774
I like Loan Star, it's a good pun and describes what we do pretty well.

I like Loan Star as well. Its a great power pun and draws up cowboy imagery.
>>
>>2621586
He probably filed the correct paperwork with Ford Motor Company.
>>
>>2622504
they stopped making that car back in the 70s

and Ford is gonna stop making cars that aren't trucks, SUVs, and Mustangs.
>>
>>2622510
True, but I'm pretty sure they still have Copyright on the name. Copyright is functionally eternal these days thanks to Disney's lawyers.
>>
>>2622538
I blame the vigilante era. You know the time when every governament was in pure chaos because quirks started to show up?
