Last time on Galactic Fleets, our forces on the Agriculture Planet "Blessed Orchard" pursued the assassin of the Planetary Governor, a mysterious "Omega Operative". Although commander Zhao managed to defeat and capture the assassin, a second sniper slew the man from extreme range, leaving only his advanced body armor to bring back to the Eternal Empress. Our assault on Rebel command began, dealing heavy casualties to the Rebel Heavy infantry and their makeshift armored vehicles. Only one anti-air emplacement remains, preventing the squadrons of PDC gunships from taking the rebels from above.

>1 Unit of Ronin

Allied Units
>5 Units of PDC Infantry (light infantry, sustained losses)
>1 Unit of Mantis Walkers (sustained heavy losses)
>3 units of PDC Gunships (Light Gunship)
>1 battery of Light Artillery at PDC headquarters

Your forces have pushed the rebel forces all the way to their command outpost. The mysterious Omega Operatives decapitated rebel command via controlled demolition of their HQ, reducing it to a mound of rubble and corpses. Their forces, leaderless, disorganized and battered, are hunkering down, desperate for survival. Artillery and mortar fire crash down onto the industrial district, the blue-white flash of beam fire illuminating the smoke as your militia hold their barricade strong. Viper Strike Tanks glide forward on beds of antigrav energy, their Beam cannons spearing out to slash across buildings, armored vehicles and flesh with the same cold efficiency. The sky is stained by soot and smoke, the ashes of thousands drifting on the wind like dirty gray snow.

This petty civil war has almost come to an end. Time to finish this.

Hold current positions for now, pull back the ronins and viper tanks behind our infantry. Keep shelling their AA. When it is down, announce to the rebs that this is their last remaining chance for mercy. If they surrender their weapons as well as themselves to your forces, they will be allowed to serve the empress and wipe away their shame or off to the gulags lmao. Give them 10 minutes or so to come forward. Hopefully this will reduce their numbers a bit, as well as giving us more officers to interrogate in order to figure out who is behind all this.

Standing atop the barricade of stone and bent steel, Commander Zhao brings up an open and unsecure comm-channel onto his headset. He clears his throat, knowing his voice is broadcasting to all who may be listening.
"You there! Cowering within those factories! I am Commander Zhao, company leader of the Empress's Ronin and commander of all her forces upon this planet. You cannot hold what you have against us. Your puny fortress shrinks, inch by inch as we push forward. Already, hundreds upon hundreds of men are reinforcing this position, sealing your fate. You are already outnumbered. It will only grow worse with time. Give yourselves over to the mercy of our blessed and eternal Empress and find yourselves given new purpose or Remain in your holes, cowering like rats. You have ten minutes"

Zhao plants his sword into the stone before him, resting a hand easily upon the hilt as he watches the surrounding structures. Militia and PDC Infantry adjust their weapons, sure that the rebels are going to storm their position in a desperate charge. Many very nearly fire as they spot movement but they manage to refrain from it as they spot a common detail to the hundred of men, women and children that stream out of the factories and warehouses.

They are unarmed, hands held above their heads, wounds bandaged clumsily and heads bowed.

Zhao gestures with his free hand, a slight smile upon his face behind the demons snarl of his helm. They are citizens of the Shogunate despite their crimes and they may have the chance to wash away the shame of their dishonor. He brings up the comm-channel to his subordinate officers and speaks quietly
"Search them for weapons, treat their wounded and single out the officers or anyone who looks suspicious. Get them away from the others and question them. Sharply. I want to know everything they do within the hour."

Once the prisoners are secured away behind your lines, several companies of PDC overseeing them, Your men move forward once again. Mortar fire shakes the earth as a scattered barrage lands all around the rebel Anti air, the concussive blasts gouging gaping craters into the structures and streets surrounding the target. But for the sheer volume of fire they send out, not a single shell lands close enough to damage the emplacements. Your veteran militia hang their heads in shame as jeers and insults ring out from the other soldiers, the rising howl of incoming artillery screeching across the sky as the Light Artillery battery at PDCHQ roars out once more. A plume of dust, flame and debris soars high into the sky as the barrage lands directly on target, reducing the sophisticated anti-air emplacement to little more than scraps of metal and burning fuel.

Your men cheer out as PDC gunships soar in, their propellors whirling as they circle the rebel command, their heavy beam-turrets and autocannons already pounding the rebel positions. Gunfire and the odd, desperately aimed rocket can do next to nothing against the swirling swarm of death.

Zhao angles his sword at the foe, a wordless cry emanating from the Ronin as your men heft their weapons over their heads, howling hate at the rebel foe.

The final battle of this world is nearly done.

Zhao hefts Storms Kiss in his gauntlets fist, twirling the razor sharp blade through hissing arcs as he roars to his Ronin
"Death to the traitors! For the Empress! For honor! NO PRISONERS!"

The answering roar shakes the ground almost as much as the artillery barrage that smashes into the rebel fortifications.
"NO MERCY!"

Gunships swoop and circle like hunting hawks as they unload volleys of high caliber Autogun onto the rebel defenses. Men are pulped into scraps of flesh and pink mist, concrete explodes into dust and blinding fragments. Beams of energy spear out, raking across the barricades, the surface of the stone chsrring and steaming under the intense heat. Men simply burst into flames when the strobing flashes cut across their bodies, reduced to flash-burned statues of charcoal and ash.

As the rebels desperately attempt to fire at the charging Ronin, a volley of weapons fire so dense it may as well have been a solid wall strikes their formation. Men caught in the open simply evaporate into lumps of gore, others are thrown backward by the combined impact of beam fire. They are helpless, trapped, desperate.... Doomed.

With a wordless cry of rage and hatred, Zhao and his Ronin are upon them. Blades carve through flesh with the ease of a razor through butter, sending limbs, heads and organs flying with each stroke. The rebels fight, run, hide and beg, it matters not.

They die all the same.

Zhao lashes out with Storms Kiss, sending both of a mans forearms flying, still clutching the rusted machete he had been swinging. Before the man could even begin to scream in agony, Zhao thrust his blade underneath his chin, ripping forward with such ferocity he bisected the rebels face. Throwing up a armored forearm to block the swing of a makeshift hatchet, Zhao levels his off hand towards the rebels belly. The man has a moment to realize his mistake before the blast of pure kinetic energy rips him in half at the waist. All around the Crimson and Midnight reader, blood flows in rivers as the Ronin exact a bloody toll upon each rebel they can find. Bodies are piled in heaps, blood splashing nearly ankle deep, the wounded screaming for mercy but finding none. Your Ronin scour the rebels from the earth more thoroughly than an orbital bombardment and within hours, the city is reclaimed.

After the slaughter, Zhao retires to his quarters, cleansing caked gore from his armor and from his blade. Removing his helm, he sets up a terminal and begins typing out his report, the interrogation transcripts proving worrisome. This information cannot risk being intercepted, he must deliver it in person.

>The Derelict

The Scientific Vessel "Wisdom of Curiousity" glides through the void, its engines winding down from the FTL jump into the interstellar space. Out here in the empty blackness, it is only the ship, the void... And the massive automated mining rig drifting aimlessly through the vacuum. The colossal structure drifts along like a iceberg of metal on a scale so large it boggles the mind. Rigs like this were used to harvest entire planetoids and asteroid belts, consuming them like a massive oceanborne beast and regurgitating the processed ores whenever its few crew told it to. Massive rents and gaping tears in the metallic hide of the leviathan, like the battle scars of a giant.

Dr.Hyza sits at a terminal, her slender fingers scrolling along a manufacturers report on the rig in question. Her eyes, a faint blue glow emanating from within each, narrow as she sips from her sixth, lukewarm cup of Hyper-Caff today.
"Minimum crew capacity, maybe two hundred organic crew? With that level of damage its unlikely that atmosphere has been retained. A full automated drone production unit... Mining and maintenance... Security protocols? Full integrated security grid in crew and valuable material storage... Could be an issue"

Dr.Hyza pauses in her musing as a subtle chime emanates from her door. She idly looks up from her terminal as one of her customized servants enters the room. Its smooth, bone white carapace covers delicate innards, a rounded, cyclopean head swiveling to fix on her. Massive arms, each concealing a plethora of assorted weapons, end in rounded manipulators with the strength to rip open bulkheads. FXR-1 speaks in a soft, heavily modulated voice
"Mistress Hyza. Captain Keiro and Commander Lho wish to speak with you. We are approaching sensor range of the derelict. Shall i invite them up or will you be meeting them?"

>Let them up FXR, ill speak with them in my office.

"Let them in FXR, we'll just have to hope that they dont break anything don't we?"
She sighs, closing the terminal and standing up from her terminal. She brushes the crumbs from her desk, grabbing a quartet of half empty cups of ice cold Hyper-Caff, she drops them into a recycler after sniffing their contents and wincing. FXR-1 stands as still as a ivory statue as his counterpart invites in the men waiting at the door.

With the whooshing hiss of pressurized air, the doors slide open, revealing the chaos of Dr.Hyza's workshop/office/sleeping quarters. Half completed robots hang from racks and frames, their innards pulled free like they were attacked by mechanical scavengers. Partially dissasmbeled beam weapons are piled in the corner, their emmiters and power cores ripped away like the hearts of sacrifices. A nest of books, data-slates, half eaten food and blankets is piled in the far corner, a veritable army of Hyper-Caff cups around it. Hyza smooths her crumpled uniform, sitting professionally at her desk as the pair enter, followed closely by the hulking FXR-2. Captain Keiro is a stocky, mustachioed man, his hair turning gray from stress and age. His captains uniform is clean and respectably decorated with medals and commendations. He takes in the mess calmly, being used to Hyza's eccentricity. Commander Lho remains impassive, his blank faced helm tucked under his arm, the cords in his neck standing out as he swivels his bald head, regarding the chaos with the shock of a man used to strict, iron hard control over everything in his life.

Keiro clears his throat, his arms folded behind his back
"Dr.Hyza. Thank you for meeting with us. I presume you have been going over the schematics of the Derelict? Commander Lho here assures me that you will be perfectly safe with his men accompanying you. Are you sure you do not wish a detachment of our security team to accompany you?"

Lho scoffs, crossing his thick arms across his armored chest and looking down on the smaller man.
"Ive already told you. Whatever scum crawls on that hulk, my men and I will cut through them. Your men would be better suited preparing the ship and loading anything of interest into the cargo hold. Your 'security team' are barely trained peasants. They will simply get in the way"

>They'll be better off protecting the ship and loading any salvage

Dr.Hyza brushes her hair back over her ear, regarding the pair of men as she considers the various benefits their suggestions provide. If she elects to bring along the secirury detail, that's a group of nearly a hundred and fifty armed men, nothing ti sneeze at by any account. However, their group will move more slowly and may attract the attention of anything inside the hulking derelict.

If she goes without the Security team, they could secure the landing site, loading salvage and samples into the holds and keeping the ship ready to go on a moments notice. They will also be able to defend the ship against any residents of the massive mining rig.

Dr.Hyza steeples her fingers, regarding the men as she thinks. Finally she clears her throat, waving a grease stained hand towards the Captain.
"Ive got another solution. Ill bring along a boosted comm-unit and hook it up to FXR's power core. If I *need* your men, ill contact you."

Captain Keiro nods, accepting the compromise pleasantly enough. Lho snorts, a faint sneer going across his face as he does. The towering Ronin strides forward, not noticing or caring about the FXR's sudden and sharp attention. The commander pulls a folding data-slate from his armor.
"If you insist on those half-trained peasants being involved, I suppose I will have to endure it. Now, there are several areas we can bring this..."
He looks around pointedly, grimacing slightly
"Ship.. In to dock. Ive highlighted them on a projection of the Rig"

Dr. Hyza leans over the projection, scrolling along it with a single slim finger. For such a unpleasantly blunt man, he has good tactical sense it seems.

>>
Dr.Hyza brings up the schematics of the Derelict, zooming in onto the highlighted rent in the massive vessels armor. While not critically damaging to the vessels overall function, prelimnary scans reveal that the savage tears penetrated the crew compartments, venting atmosphere into the void. Unless the automatic safety measures kicked in and sealed the bulkheadss to damaged sections, its likely there were no survivors of the incident. Dr.Hyza taps on the highlighted section, nodding as she glances towards Commander Lho.
"We will make our way into the mining rig here, as per your suggestions Commander. Captain? Bring us in and see if you can find a suitable docking point. Full vacuum protocols, mag-boots and Void-suits. Even if the rig is large enough to have its small gravity well, we still must treat it as any other derelict ship."

Both men bow their heads slightly, turning to leave, they quickly make their way to their respective offices, orders already flying to their subordinates. Dr.Hyza sighs, running a hand over a collection of sophisticated tools. With a small smile, she turns towards the FXR twins. There is always room for improvement...

The Wisdom of Curiosity glides through the void on pulsing engines, mircrothrusters making minute adjustments to course and angle of approach as the vessel slips inside the massive rents in the Derelict hull. Like a parasite through the gills of some great sea-beast, the smaller ship coasts between spires of jagged metal the size of tower-blocks. Dust and debris float aimlessly in the vacuum as the descent continues, personal effects and scraps of metal alike sparking aimlessly from the shields. Like the bow-lights of a submersible, the ships scanners and lights reveal the extent of the damage.

The double walled hull is scored all the way through, a trio of truly titanic gashes gouging all the way through into the innards of the leviathan. At its deepest point, bunks, stairwells and even a mess hall can be clearly seen.

Captain Keiro wipes sweat from his brow as his navigation officer deftly brings them as close to the docking point as possible. Metal squeals against the ships hull as a thin spire scrapes against it, gouging a shining line. Captain Keiro is tempted to curse but instead cracks a smile, choosing instead to joke
"I told you not to scratch the paint Najia! This boat is new!"
He forces a nervous chuckle as the Wisdom of Curiousity finally comes to rest against a relatively flat and undamaged bulkhead scans indicate opens onto a corridor.

The boarding umbilical extends, the magnetic ring at its tip locking onto the bulkhead and spinning like a drill bit as concentrated scalpels of cohered energy burn through the thick slab of alloy. The vault door sized circle falls inwards, its edges glowing like fresh forged steel.

Dr.Hyza steps out of the lift, her FXR's flanking her like cyclopean giants. Their bone white armor plating has nearly doubled in thickness, smooth and shining dully under the lights. Each of their opposite forearms bristling with rotary beam turrets, the off hand brandishing a thick, angled shield, the edges honed down to a rounded edge. The doctor herself is dressed competently in thin, overlapping plates of silvered alloy armor. A long barreled pistol sits at her hip, the streamlined power core shining slightly with cold white energy. An intricate, multi-paneled vacuum helmet sits at her throat, waiting to expand upwards in the event of vacuum exposure.

Her armor is covered with small concealed pockets and expanding holsters holding various data-slates, neural spikes and intrusion devices. Concealed in the forearm of her armor, on a coiled spring of aritifical muscle, a diamond hard blade sits waiting ti spring free. Like arcane runes, lines of circuitry weave along the blade, waiting to impart corrupting code or carve through flesh.

She strides calmly down the corridor, her synthetic bodyguards like moving statues of ivory and steel. She approaches Commander Lho, the towering Ronin addressing his men in blunt, curt tones. Commander Lho is garbed for battle in the void, his armor sealed tight against atmospheric changes. His boots whine as they adhere him to the floor with magnetic force, the force negligible to the enhanced strength of the Ronin. Across his back is slung a heavy, two handed blade, the square-bladed chopping sword seeming more the weapon of a butcher than a noble warrior of the empress. He looks sidelong towards Dr.Hyza, nodding slightly as he dismisses his men, the gathered ranks of near three hundred Ronin preparing to board the Derelict. His blank faced helm, the facemask polished to a mirrorlike sheen, imparts a hollow bass vibration to his voice as he speaks.
"Doctor. How good of you to join us. I suppose these toys of yours will be joining us? If you insist. My men are more than capable of ensuring your safety"

Dr.Hyza opens her mouth to defend her beloved creations when suddenly FXR-1 cuts in.
"We have defended Mistress Hyza for far longer than you have or will. With our first act and our last, we have kept her safe from harm. She is our charge. You merely accompany us"

Hyza smiles slightly, even she forgets sometimes that the FXR's are less than human but more than any other machine. The closest thing to an actual AI she is allowed to create resides within the data cores of each of the cyclopean twins. Commander Lho snorts, shaking his head bullishly.
"Insolent doll. No matter. As long as the doctor remains alive, both of our missions are successful. Now, shall we move? My men are ready to establish a clear landing ground and Captain Keiro is anxious to begin securing the dock"

"Lets proceed then Commander. Captain? Bring your men along behind us and begin setting up a perimeter around the breach point. If we need reinforcements or to make a quick exit, ill make sure to contact you."
Dr. Hyza strides smoothly through the center of the Ronin, the power armored warriors stepping respectfully out of the way as she does. Tapping a ginger to the comm-bead surgically implanted under her ear, she speaks subvocalises a request to Sikora, a sensor operator who owes her several hundred credits and quite a few favors.
"Sikora? Are you at your station? Good. Run me a level III scan on the rig. The entire superstructure yes but the immediate area is most important. Search for any active biosignatures, thermal anomalies, power emissions and anything on the EM/IR spectrum. Get back to me as quickly as possible"

Ending the communication channel, Hyza makes her way down the boarding umbilical, flanked by her ever present bodyguards, a squad of two dozen Ronin breaching through the end of the umbilical ahead of her, their blades and pulse rifles leveled down the corridor. Lho, leading from the front as always reports nack, clipped tones masking any emotion in his voice.
"Clear"

Behind Dr.Hyza march nearly three hundred Ronin, accompanied by another hundred and fifty security crew. Stepping through the still faintly glowing entrance of the breach, Dr.Hyza's helm flicks up and over her head, sealing tight against the extremely thin atmospheric pressure. This section of the derelict isn't entirely voided yet but nothing living could survive on air this thin. Helmet, forearm and chest mounted flashlights flicker on, illuminating the inky darkness of the corridor.

"By the Empress"
Breathes Dr.Hyza, swallowing heavily as she turns to take in the area. Even flash frozen, dried and probably years old, nothing except gallons of human blood could create the thick smears and splashes of rusty brown along the walls, floor and ceiling. But for all the blood and scraps of freeze dried flesh littering the floor and plastered to the walls, not a single corpse can be found.

Commander Lho sniffs, running a gauntleted hand along the wall, the thickly splattered gore crumbling at his touch. He turns his head, glancing at Hyza.
"This wasn't caused by decompression or any accident. This was caused by something very strong with a very sharp blade. This spatter here? The crew, they were being pursued. Hunted by something...."
He kneels, shining his light across the floor, illuminating a patch of clear floor, the bare metal marked by a footprint in gore. A single bare foot in a perfect silhouette of rusted brown. Lho growls, deep in his throat like a beast
"Something... Human"

>Cont

>>2592869
Suddenly Hyza's subdermal comm-bead crackles, Sikoras voice coming through the other end.
"Doctor? I did as you asked. Theres a energy signature three levels below you. Looks to be in the very lowest segment of crew quarters. Its also farthest from the damage. There's a lift you may be able to use nearby if you can restore emergency power to it. Wait... Im reading another pair of energy signatures. There's one, larger than the others in the rigs main intake. Looks like its directly in the maw, the uh, the mouthparts of the ship. Near the refinery Drone production center. There's also another down in storage, small and erratic, almost like its losing power. Thats where the ship stores anything it takes in and refines or anything of note it stumbles across. Im getting no bio-signatures so far but ill let you know if I find anything else"

"What manner of beast could do such a rhing?"
Captain Keiro spits out, turning to shine his flashlight across the bulkheads, the inky darkness of the corridor stretching onward to infinity. The security team steps out from the boarding umbilical three by three, their snub nosed beam carbines clutched tight to their shoulders. His men regard the walls and floor nervously, their transparent void-helms showing parking faces and nervous eyes.

Commander Lho rolls his wrist, the power cells in his pulse rifle whining as the charge cycles.
"Ive no idea. Whoever or whatever did this, odds are they are long dead. And the dead can't harm us can they captain? Your... Men, will be capable of securing this corridor correct?"

Without waiting for a response, Lho turns toward Dr.Hyza, shouldering his massive cleaver.
"Doctor. We should get moving. I would prefer to waste as little time as possible on this."

Dr.Hyza nods as FXR-1 and 2 scan the area with their multi-spectrum cycloptic eyes. Their beam cannons hum readily, coils of energy wiping from their charging elements, the cold blue glow illuminating their armor with cold light.
"Yes Commander, we should spend as little time as possible in this derelict. I dont like the feel of this place."

Without waiting for a response, she brings up a small holographic mini-map onto the interior of her helmet. A trio of small blinking flashes appear on a rapidly updating map of the mining rig. One of them is relatively close by, a weakly pulsing strobe of activity just three floors below her location, in the depths of the crew quarters.

The corridors of crew quarters are spacious, as far as mining rig living quarters go. At regular intervals the bulkheads are marked by sliding doors leading into darkened sleeping and living quarters the size of a large bedroom. Some of the doors are sealed tightly, the doors locked from within. Others stand open, their interiors either untouched or thrown about chaotically in a charnel house of flash-frozen gore and bodily fluids.

But not a single corpse is found.

Through several intersections and dozens of rooms, through a abandoned mess hall and the remnants of what seems to be a crude defensive barricade streaked with puddles and splashes of rusty brown, weapons fire dotting the walls. Past empty rec-rooms with outdated entertainment systems scattered about and a dense splatter of gore in the corner extending towards the ceiling, not a single corpse has been found.

Dr.Hyza pauses by a rent in the bulkhead, obviously having been made by a crude plasma projector. She follows the estimated trajectory towards a spray of arterial gore so dense it resembles a coat of rusted brown paint.
"Whatever happened aboard this vessel, happened *before* it was depressurized. These men were dead long before this ship sustained the damage to the hull."

Commander Lho grunts, shining his light along the walls and floor.
"No single foe could have done this. That barricade back there? Probably manned by at least twenty men. Armed even with solid projectiles and crude beam weaponry, they should be been able to repel a single attacker. Instead, they were ripped apart... The foe was on them... Among them, before they could even respond"

FXR-2 swivels its head about, taking in every detail as it does. The hulking synthetic warrior is nearly unnerved by the fact that it cannot think how to counter a foe that seems fast enough to dodge gunfire. FXR-1 interjects onto its siblings thoughts, If they replace the air around a target with weapons fire, it can't very well dodge that now can it?

Dr.Hyza kneels next to the control surface for the lift, FXR-1 wordlessly kneeling and offering his power core as a jump start for the emergency power to the lift. Running silvery gray cables from the ivory warriors spinal column and into the relays for the lift, Hyza hums to herself as she splices together the leads.

FXR-1's power cell whines as it cranks out a slight surplus of power" feeding life back into the drained capacitors of the emergency power system. Along the corridor, dull, ruddy red light shines faintly as the emergency lightning kicks on. FXR-1 continues to crank power into the elevator, its power readout rising from simply "CRITICAL" to "VERY LOW".

enough for a single single descent and return.

Dr.Hyza smiles happily, patting FXR-1 on the shoulder-plate as she disconnects the power leads, the cables automatically spooling back into the goliaths spine. She stands, brushing imaginary dust from her armor as the doors to the lift grind open slowly, the interior lit by demonic red light.
"Commander, the lift is rather small, myself, the Twins and five of your men are all that will fit I believe"

Commandee Lho nods, gesturing to his men.
"You four. On me. The rest of you, hold this corridor, establish a perimeter, teams of five, regular check ins."
Before the commander has even finished his order, the Ronin are splitting up into squads, peeling off from the main column and securing the area.

A appreciation of direct and complete obedience in any form, Hyza raises an eyebrow, impressed as she steps into the lift. With the pair of towering combat robots, the five Ronin and herself, it is rather cramped but she abides the discomfort as the lift doors close. A pair of cheaply made speakers built into the ceiling crackles out a overly cheerly jingle as the lift descends. The silent fury emanating from Lho at the repeating tune makes it obvious he desires nothing more than to murder the writer of that jingle and their entire bloodline.

Finally, after two floors, the lift comes to a halt, the doors dinging slightly before grinding open slowly, revealing pure inky darkness, the beams of their lights carving through the darkness like daggers. The blood spatter here is rare and sparse, droplets along the floor, drag marks, the odd rusty brown palm print on the wall. The corridor is long and dark as the exploration team slowly makes their way along, each branching intersection leading off into more infinite darkness. The blood trail leads first left, then right, then left again, finally coming to rest at a large door to what seems to be a small workshop. The heavy door, once obviously welded shut with several layers of reinforcing struts, is folded inwards like it was made of putty.

The pulsing signal lies somewhere in that room.

Lho steps in front of Dr.Hyza, a single thick arm thrown outwards. The Twins start before accepting that the gesture is meant to protect their mistress. A nod and a twitch of his hand and a pair of his Ronin approach the gaping rent in the door. Weapons fire pockmarks the interior of the metal, great gouges carved in it like the ripping claws of some brutal beast.

The Ronin shine their lights into the breach, their pulse rifles leveled into the stygian darkness. After a moments concentration, they report back with professional efficiency.
"Rooms clear of hostiles. Looks like the weapons were set up to fire on a motion sensor, blind firing on full auto. Dried blood but not as much as the the corridor."

"Very well then. Doctor Hyza, do whatever it is you are intending to do so we may leave this place"
Lho straightens, freeing Dr.Hyza from his protective barrier and allowing the doctor forward. The pair of Ronin he had sent forward bow as they step backward, allowing the doctor and the ivory twins to make their way through the gap first, the metal having been ripped almost as wide as the doors fully open state.

Dr.Hyza flicks on a multitude of armor mounted light emitters and inspects the interior of the storage space.
"Now isn't this interesting..."
She says to herself, picking up the shattered and bent remains of a small caliber bolt pistol. Several other firearms ranging from a modified rivet gun to a high powered kinetic pistol are bolted and secured to nearby storage crates, the ceiling and floor, all aimed towards the door.

Inside the one time bunker, the devastation is more subdued than one would think, seemingly focused in one direction. The bolted down weapons are connected to cables, the cords leading back through the storage area, along the path of damage, storage crates pushed out of the way or smashed apart like eggshells. Following the path of least resistance, Dr.Hyza makes her way towards the back of the storage space, the crunch of Lho's boots on spent ammunition cases carrying through the atmosphere.

The cords and cable lead her nearly a hundred meters through the storage room, her guardians flanking her at every step. She looks over the nap, the flashing beacon growing closer and closer with every step. Finally, she crests a small barricade of crates and stops in her tracks. Before her is the rear corner of the storage room, the small space having been turned into a makeshift field hospital and last ditch holdout. Surprisingly, there is none of the gruesome blood spatter of the corridors and the barricade three levels above, only a pair of rusted brown pools, a single spray of tissue and gore on the wall. A dim, blinking red light catches Hyza's eye, a outdated data slate shoved partially underneath a bloodied blanket against the wall.

Crouching down, Hyza pulls the slightly bloodstained data slate from its resting place, the marks of blood slick fingers clearly visible on the dull black polymer of its case. Hooking it up to a universal adaptor on her armors charging port, the device boots up slowly, the holographic projection coming up with only a few flickers of static.

Theres little of note on the device, the last used options available on it being the users personal logs, a Liam Hestshire, Maintenance Technician. The most recent memos and video logs have progressively less detailed titles, the last simply being titled "Im Sorry"

The video log is dimly lit, the glow of emergency lighting in the background and the glow of the data-slate itself illuminating the narrow features of a thin, balding man in his early middle age. A thin gash across his forehead weeps a continuous stream of blood into his right eye. He holds the data-slate in shaking hands, his skin pale and dropping sweat. His dark blue jumpsuit is ripped and torn, small burns in the fabric evidence of desperately fast welding. Groans of pain issue out somewhere nearby, a womans voice weakly asking for water. Liam shushes the wounded woman, handing across a half full bottle before looking back down at the recorder.
"I-is anyone out there? Is anyone still listening? Is anyone still... Still alive? We're down here in sub-storage bay 12. Me and Hannah.. Hannah Firth. She's hurt... Shes hurt bad. Really bad... >Crew-Wide memo
>As im sure you all know by now, we stumbled across some old hulk of a ship in the Persephone System asteroid field. Now, as you know, the ship registers anything that isn't actively emitting signals or moving on its own power as food so the old girl swallowed it whole. Yes, it finally happened.... The old bitch ate another ship. She is channeling the spirit of the late, great Crewman Micheals it seems.

>Crewman Aarons was the first one to spot it and shut down the refinery jaws so the majority of the credit with the salvage will go to him. Before you get pissy, that's the law and the law is the fucking law. you dont like it, there's a airlock and you know how to work it. BUT another handy bylaw ensures that the entire crew of the VESSEL that retrieves a derelict or scuttled ship will receive equal shares of its value. Now I don't want to sound over eager but this ship is pretty interesting looking and im betting someone at Hades Station will pay handsomely for it when we dock in for resuplly and offload. If you salty shits can keep from murdering each other for two more months, we'll all get a nice bonus.

Lho stands behind Dr.Hyza as she brings up the last video log. The ivory twins at her back regard him impassively, their heavy alloy shields braced against the floor.

The video is dark, the glow of emergency lightning faded to near nothingness, only the glow of the data-slate illuminating its recorders face.

Liam coughs weakly, wiping sweat from his brow, the wound on his forehead crusted over and inflamed. His eyes are red and swollen, mucus and tears running freely as he licks cracked lips and sniffs, seemingly composing himself.

"I... I uh... Im leaving this... These recordings in case someone... Anyone finds this ship. Its been... Um.. eight days since I welded the door shut. I set up some spare weapons I found in a locked crate... Rigged em to fire on any movement around the door.... I don't know if that thing is strong enough to get the door open but... But maybe those guns will make it think twice"
He chuckles sadly, wiping sweat and tears from his cheeks.
"The uh.... The ship is dead... Drifting.... The emergency power and life support have failed... Gravity generation is starting to go as the... As the capacitors empty. Air is slowly getting harder to breathe, its..."
He devolves into a coughing fit, hacking up a wad of phlegm and spitting
"Hannah is.... Oh fuck it... Hannah is dying. The cut in her side... Its infected. Badly. It stinks like rotten meat and shes burning up, mumbling to herself and won't wake up..."
He plans the camera towards a stocky, dark skinned woman, her midsection a mass of bandages and cloth. She twitches and moans as he gently dabs at her forehead with a damp cloth.
"The water is almost gone... This is mainly spare parts and crew-based cargo here. Not anything edible... Nothing to drink....I...I uh.... I have this pistol... I took it off of one of the security crew... Holmes I think? He uh.. He didn't need it anymore..."

Liam looks directly into the camera and swallows heavily, taking a deep breathe
"Kara?... Brian? Im sorry.... I told you id be back in six months... Six months... I promised i would.. That this would be the last one... I guess im a liar after all honey. Take care of Brian... I love you both."

The video cuts off with sudden, fatal finality. Dr.Hyza holds the data slate gently, standing to turn towards Commander Lho as he steps forward.
"I hope you have found something useful Doctor. We should be moving. As I said before, it would be unwise to remain on this ruin for too long"

Doctor Hyza nods, pulling the storage card from the slate and tossing it aside. She brushes past the towering Ronin and jerks her head for him to follow
"Well put commander. Come, we should be off towards the next anomaly then"

Dr.Hyza brings up the holographic map of the massive derelict on her wrist mounted projector while she walks. Lho and his Ronin follow close behind, their pulse rifles whining with charge. The next on their to-do-list is to check the strange power anomaly in the refinery maw, the strange ship from the video logs tempting Hyza's curiosity.
"We'll head to the refinery and intake port. We'll take a look at this "strange ship" and then its a near straight shot from there to the main cargo bay"
She outlines the path on the projection in a blinking red line, Commander Lho sighing as he nods.

The startled yelp comes over the comms channel, crackling through the earpiece inside his helmet, the volume making him since momentarily before he composes himself. He keys his comm-unit, shouting over the flurry of questions

Drawing his beam pistol he turns left and right, the majority of the security crew clustered around the boarding entrance, standing guard behind folding barricades that magnetically lock onto the walls.

Keiro barks, his voice switching from fatherly commanding officer to boot camp sergeant instantly.

"Ryik called it out sir, just at the edge of our lights. We would've thought it was just a trick of the light until it moved sir. It was there one minute and gone the next."

Keiro scowls, clenching his grip on the pistol, switching over to a direct channel with Ihira.
"Ihira, I don't want unneeded trivials. You answer me true soldier. What. Did. You. See?"

Ihira swallows heavily, the full gravity of the situation hitting him all at once.

>Do our units in this mission have void suits?
Yes they do. Standard model armored vacuum suits.

>Are we able to request units that completed a mission?

No, those units are on their way back to resupply and treat their wounded/recover losses.

>How well do fighters substitute for gunships?

Your Red Wasp Fighters are capable gunships for light attack runs and infantry support. They can't supply fire support to you while you are inside a vessel however.

You could request reinforcements but it would take a bit of time for them to arrive (you are several days travel out from the nearest FTL Jump Point)

>On veterancy, are there multiple levels on veterancy?

Yes. Veteran<Experienced<Elite. Each tier being a marked improvement over their original typing. For your baseline militia, they will become a improved version of their old unit with new gear or abilities and improved stats.

>Do volunteer militia upgrade into further units once they've upgraded?

Yes. Depending on *how* they achieve Veterancy, they will upgrade in different ways. You can gain Urban Warfare specialists, Drop troopers, CQC Experts, Black Ops troopers, Heavy weapons squads, etc, depending on how you use them.

>How substantial is the stat change from an upgraded militia unit compared to veterancy for other units?
For Militia units, the stat change is very substantial, they go from shitty meat shields to actual bona fide infantry. For your more elite units, its more of a basic stat increase that stacks with each level of Veterancy.

>Is it possible to spread veterancy to other units, say osmosis through being in their presence or training from veterans?

Yes. Units will accrue XP just from fighting with more veteran units or simply being stationed with them for long periods.

>Do PDF units gain veterancy?

No. They are quite literally the bottom of the Shogunate Military barrel. Theyre capable but they are the guys deemed too shitty for normal military service.

>Does naming veteran units instead of auto-naming them do anything, besides fluff?
It influences their gear and how they behave in combat, how other units behave around them and their abilities. Ill let you guys get pretty creative wjth the names
>>
>>2599591
>What determines mission rating?

The progress and events of the mission. Unit losses, choices made, events that are completed or failed, etc.

You can receive awards, commanders can be promoted or demoted, information, research or even new units can be unlocked. You've done pretty well so far

No, elite units, by default are smaller than baseline units. This is the result of combat action and soldiers washing out of the upgrading process.

Captain Keiro barks into his comm-unit, switching back to a open channel, a dressing all of his security force

The men around the dock entry ready their weapons, beams of light stabbing into the inky darkness of the corridors. The folding alloy barricades feel very flimsy all of a sudden. One by one the patrols filter back in, the numbers of men around the docking port swelling as the roving groups hunker down behind cover.

Captain Keiro ticks off each patrol in his head as they return, his beam pistol holstered but his hand resting uneasily on the grip. Finally, each and every squad is accounted for. All except one...

Switching over to a private channel he hisses into the mic
"Ihira? Ihira answer me damnit! Where are you soldier!?"

Frantic gunfire amd screaming over the local comms-channel are the only response. Ihira is yelling incomprehensibly, firing his rifle on full auto, screaming at his squad.
"FALL BACK! FALL BACK! Shit! Ashiho! Leave him! He's gone! Fall back! Fall BAA-AAAAAGGHHH"

the screaming cuts off abruptly with a wet, gruesome crunch, the green branch snap of breaking bone. All around Keiro, the men pale, clutching their weapons tightly to their shoulders as over the comms, Ihira's unit still broadcasting, the gunfire in the background growing fainter and fainter, each source snapping away with sudden finality.

True. Which is why I swapped my proposal from 2 Volunteer Militia to 1 Ronin initially. I was hoping to get some upgraded Volunteer Militia though, now that we know of that mechanic.
I'm not sure about the Black Lotus. Special forces are more for surgical operations or stealth, which isn't something we have access to when we're exploring something like a Space Hulk from Warhammer 40k. Heavy infantry like Ronin are best for that reason.
However, the reason I was thinking of Volunteer Militia was to use them either as scouts, defenses, or salvaging, which militia would excel at in contrast to dedicated combat units. I’m not sure of how well the Ronin would fare in that regard, or if they can serve as combat engineers considering who they select for.
We can’t bring too many units either. The rest are still returning and resting from the mission, and we need some to guard the civ.
>A load of Ronin
What did you mean by a load of Ronin? 1 Ronin?

1 Volunteer Militia to salvage the mining rig, fortify the headquarters, and improvise some gear with Dr. Hyza? 1 Ronin to reinforce the Ronin? What are the estimates on the enemy?

Request this many reinforcements from the civ, fortify and trap the dock until then? Now that we have alerted the enemies, they may start coming for us.

Fuck. Okay can we activate any doors leading to the docking room? Seal them and weld them shut if possible but keep at least one gun on them. That'll give us some warning if the bastard is coming while letting us focus firepower elsewhere.

Also get more support in from the ship. See if we can't get some canisters of fuel or some explosives set up along routes of approach we can detonate the moment we see anything.

We aren't moving from this position until that bastard is dead. I get the feeling he'll come to us very shortly.

True but my logic is that Black Lotus are the best of the best we've got. If anything can match this bastard in terms of skill, equipment and training? It's probably going to be them.

Might be a good idea to call in our combat hero and have a 1-on-1 duel.

>What did you mean by a load of Ronin? 1 Ronin?
Literally every Ronin we have. I'd rather take too many forces in response to this than lose a unit because we underestimated the threat.

From everything we've seen and heard, from the size of the craft this ship encountered to the way the ship has been attacked, I think this might genuinely be the only one on the ship.

>True but my logic is that Black Lotus are the best of the best we've got. If anything can match this bastard in terms of skill, equipment and training? It's probably going to be them.
If we do that then we'll need to set a trap to utilize the Black Lotus effectively, which may work considering the potential enemy hero gunning for us. However, this hinges on it being an enemy hero.

>Might be a good idea to call in our combat hero and have a 1-on-1 duel.

The combat hero is the Empress's bodyguard, so that depends if we can afford her losing her bodyguard for that time. Same with the Ronin. I don't know what the other civs are doing while our turn is processing. We know there's at least one inciting rebels, which may be the same one as the one with the Omega Operatives. The Black Fleet may have been the one who encouraged one of our frigates to turn, or it may have been an opportunity. So 2-3 enemy factions.

If we do swap out our reinforcements for the others, the Black Lotus will disrupt our defenses the least.

Captain Keiro swallows heavily, the security crew around him muttering, their voices rising to a panicked roar before he draws his beam pistol, slamming his foot down against the cold metal of the floor.
"QUIET!!! We have hostile contact! Weapons free! You see something that isn't one of us, the Ronin or Dr. Hyza, you light it up! You! Get on comms with the technical crew. I want every spare unit of fuel, demolition charges and ammunition cores on the damn ship and I want them FIVE MINUTES AGO! You! Get me Dr.Hyza on comms! I dont care what you have to do, just get me a connection! Start securing these bulkheads! Weld them shut, rig some fuel and power cores to the inside of them. If Soemthing tries to get through, I want it burned and shot for its trouble!"
He roars, going straight from calm to enraged with the ease of any drill sergeant.

His men scramble into action, the gruesome fate of their comrades forgotten in their haste to escape the wrath of their captain. Security officers dash into the boarding umbilical, returning minutes later with crates of spare power cores, demolition charges, boxes of grenades and the odd barrel of liquid fuel.

Setting up lights and field barricades, Captain Keiro's security crew turn the crossroads of the corridor into a veritable fortress. Each and every bulkhead is sealed with the exception of the one Dr Hyza and the Ronin left through. Crates of improvised explosives and rigged grenades decorate the interior of the bulkheads, each one watched carefully by at least one squad of security.

Captain Keiro stands behind the barricade, twenty meters from the single open bulkhead, a short barreled clutched to his shoulder, nearly sixty men crouching behind the folding barricades along with him.

With the crackle of static, Dr.Hyza's voice comes through the comm-unit, stuttering through into his earpiece.
"C--ain? Can you h--r me? Is som---ing wron-?"

Keiro curses, the floors between them doubtlessly interfering with the signal. He enunciates carefully, speaking slowly.
"We have encountered Hostile contacts. I repeat, Hostile on board. Be on your guard. We have sustained casualties but are holding the dock, I repeat, we have casualties but the dock is secure. Be safe out there Doctor"

After a moment, Dr.Hyza's voice crackles back over the comm-unit.

>1. Main Barricade assaulted. Critical failure!.

Dozens of rifles aim into the abysmal darkness, the men wielding them entrenched behind barricades, supported by their own glaring light and their well earned sense of security. They *feel* it in their hearts that no matter what comes through that doorway, they will hold it back, that it will simply wither away under the combined might of their firepower.

How very wrong they are.

Almost at once, every sealed bulkhead thumps solidly as something very strong slams against the exterior. The screech of metal on metal echoing out as some inhuman force strains against the welds. At the bulkheads where the assailants manage to pry even the smallest gap in the doorway, weapons fire, detonating munitions and harsh language greet them.

Keiro barks to his men as they shift, glancing around and muttering amongst each other.
"Quiet! Whatever the hell it is, it cant get through!"

Suddenly one of the crewmen pales, aiming his rifle with shaking hands into the darkness beyond the opened bulkhead.
"C-captain? I-I think they know that..."

Keiro turns, aiming his short barreled beam carbine down the corridor. He swallows heavily, blinking away a sudden icy bead of sweat trickling across his face.
"By the Empress..."

Eyes, dozens of pairs of them, reflect in the shadows like that of feral beasts. Flashlight beams cut across bodies disfigured by invasive black and silvery metal, the cybernetics seeming... Organic somehow, as if they grew out and over their flesh. Claws of blackened steel, fangs of chipped ivory, skin traced with blackened veins and pulsing circuitry, the ghastly denizens of the derelict stand as still as statues, rank upon rank of them stretching back into the darkness. Keiros finger twitches on the trigger, his voice failing him as he suddenly recognizes the animalistic *hunger* in their eyes.
"W... Weapons Free! Open fire! Open fire! Take em down!"

Beam fire lances out, solid shells strike sparks and gouges from the walls and floor, men scream and shout and curse, firing everything they have at the horrifying creatures that regard them from the dark.

Many hit nothing but air.

The nightmarish beings seem to blink from one point to the next, the dividing space not even a hindrance, the wall of weapons fire seemingly ignored. In the span of one breathe and another, they are among the front ranks of the barricade. Leaping, slashing, biting, smashing.... Killing.... Eating. Fingers transformed to claws as black as midnight carve through flesh and armored void suits with equal ease, blood and gore boiling in the near vacuum as the alabaster skinned demons rip men apart like roasted chickens. Teeth like jagged ivory needles crunch down on throats and arms, ripping open the tender flesh, coiling tongues lapping blood from dripping claws.

This isn't a battle for these creatures, Keiro realizes.... It is a feast.

He fires his carbine point blank into the face of a charging horror, the close range beam fire carving its skull open and flash cooking what little of its brain remains. To his horror, the nightmare stumbles on a few more steps drunkely, burying foot long claws into the back of a security officer, collapsing atop the fallen man and twitching like a crushed insect. All around the captain, his men are being pushed from the main entrance by the horde of... What can only be the remains of the former crew. The tattered remnants of their jumpsuits hanging from warped limbs is too much evidence to ignore.

Drawing his pistol, Keiro puts a trio of shots into the chest of a hulking monstrosity, one entire side of its face replaced by black, flexing metal and creeping circuits. The blue-hot bolts of energy blast open the ivory flesh, revealing bones and organs studded with tumorlike growths of onyx.
"What *ARE* you?!"
The captain snarls, putting a pair of shots into the demons head as it refuses to fall.

The demon seems to laugh as its face is cored by the duo of energy bolts, the tissue bursting into flame as it falls backwards, limbs kicking like a dog with nightmares. Keiro curses, backing towards the second row of defensive barricades, the fullisade of weapons fire seeming to hold the beasts back.

Or merely they wish to feast on the screaming crewmen they have pulled to the ground like jackals on a deer...

So the enemy has short-range teleportation and it requires either close-range weapons, or very fast weapons to hit it before they can teleport. Seemingly they can't or don't teleport when in near-melee range, perhaps to attack. Attacking seems to be one of their vulnerable moments. Otherwise, it could not be blinking but flash-stepping, and they’re just so fast that it seems like short-range teleportation. I’m not sure which is more likely, given they don’t blink when they attack, they have simple movements when they do, and they don’t charge. I guess it’s short-range teleportation?

Knowing that traps works means that their blinking isn't an automatic ability, it's conscious. Surprising them would be enough to kill them. Otherwise, it could be because the traps activated when they attacked that they were prevented from blinking.
Physical barricades are at least enough to force them to destroy them, meaning they can’t blink past them. I’m not sure how much space they need to blink, perhaps enough to fit them.

Not that kind of tech-plague. I mean the kind that turns skin to steel and brain to BIOS.

I think they might've been infected with some sort of nano-machine mimicking a conventional virus, causing aggression and spreading by biting / fluid transfer, enhanced by the ability to revitalise dead flesh and change organic material into non-organic bionic improvements.

If I am right, an EMP or significant electrical discharge would be effective in eliminating them.

I have only one question which I think reinforces my point, have we seen any bodies in the entire time we've been in this ship? I looked over the last few posts and not a single body. Blood stains, bullet holes and rends from claws all over the ship but not a single body. All we've seen is the occasional spray of flesh and blood.

The corrupted, starved, feral horrors have turned the front ranks of the security crews barricade into a abattoir of gore and terror. Blood boils in the vacuum, bone gleams slick-white in the glaring radiance of floodlights amd weapons fire. Claws as black as ink part armored vacuum suits with the ease of a razor through silk. Skin the color of ivory is married unnaturally to wet, twitching cybernetics, the coils of synthetic muscle twitching erratically as the nightmarish beings slaughter indiscriminately.

"Why! Won't! You! DIE!!"
Keiro curses, ducking under a swiping claw and pumping the trigger of his beam pistol into the monsters gut, the cohered bolts of energy blasting apart its midsection. It topples backward with a silent screech, its top half flailing unhappily while its legs kick weakly. Keiro backpedals, putting another bolt directly into the wide open maw of a charging horror, its feminine features warped by the creeping black corruption and crawling circuitry across its throat and jaw. The beast topples backward, greasy smoke cooling from the scorched hole in the back of its head.
"FALL BACK TO THE SECOND LAYER!"
He roars into his comm-unit, rolling backwards over a secondary barricade, popping up to put a bolt of energy into the forehead and chest of a charging horror, its deathly pale skin streaked with gore.
"Aim for the head! The head! It keeps them down!"

All around Keiro, men adjust their aim, putting shot after shot into the heads and upper torsos of the former crew. Grenades arc out from behind cover, the spheres of high explosive ticking down before erupting in showers of shrapnel and concussive force. Flesh and cybernetic muscle alike shred under the detonations, greasy black blood splashing the walls, sending the enraged horrors flailing at the devastating wounds in their flesh.

More and more security crew hunker behind the barricade, leveling their weapons at the pack of undead crewmen. Glowing eyes narrow in rage and hunger as they crouch, limbs bent, like predators looking for a chance to pounce. Keiro hisses into his comm-unit, taking advantage of the momentary lull in the assault.
"Somebody get a spare power core. Rip out the failsafe and throw it at the bastards. They can wreak havoc on synthetics when they overload."

>>2603803
One of the nearby security crew nods, grabbing a spare out of the casing of a spare floodlight. The squareish power core glows along its edges with faint blue light, the tell-tales showing full charge. Twisting a knife into the side, the crewman rips forth a cluster of wires. Immediately, every light on the grenade sized object switches to a flashing red. The crewman hesitates for a moment in shock before another security officer smacks him across the head, grabbing the power core and lobbing it moments before it overloads.

Over the front row of the barricades, over the carnage of the initial defense and directly into the midst of the creatures, the power core bounces, flashing erratically before detonating in a crackling sphere of energy. The shambling horrors howl in pain as the spears of acitinic lightning impale their bodies, drawn to the synthetic bone and muscle. Flesh chars and smokes, the beasts bodies twitching as the overload nearly ignites their bodies.

With screeches and howls of rage, the monstrosities turn as one, dragging the corpses of fallen security crew like grisly trophies. Within the span of seconds, the horrors have faded back into the darkness, leaving their dead and pools of blood behind them.

Keiro fires a few shots into the dark after them, cursing their blackened hearts as a grievously wounded security officer screams into his comm-unit, begging for help, for mercy, for his mother... For death.

Somewhere out there in the dark, those demons are eating him.

>First assault has been repelled with casualties.
>Corrupted: Weakness to electrical shock and overload has been discovered
>Secondary barricade has been reinforced with additional members of the security crew.
>Switch to Dr.Hyza or remain with Keiro

keiro keeps doing what he's doing

let's get Hyza out
>>
>>2603837
also, inform her of their weakness and tell them that they are the crew and that they are on the move
>>
>>2603837
So you're voting to switch to Dr. Hyza?
>>2603845
>that they are the crew and that they are on the move
The Corrupted are the former crew and the Corrupted are moving against them?
>>
>>2603815
Make sure those wounded crew are restrained during their treatment for their wounds. Walking wounded should continue to fight, everyone else should be evacuated.

I'd say we should play as Hyza.

Commander Lho adjusts his grip on his massive cleaving sword, his mirrored helm scanning the nearby corridors. It has been a long trek through miles of maintenance corridors and freight lifts on the way to the refinery. Ever since the frenzied, garbled message from Captain Keiro, the Ronin commander had been on edge. He can feel something moving in the dark, just beyond sight. He turns as Dr. Hyza brushes past him, her holographic map casting a dim glow ahead of her. She looks over her shoulder, idly tapping the wrist mounted computer, her pale face dotted with sweat from the arduous trek.
"Problems commander? I have the Twins scanning the surroundings for movement, they can see a lot more than we can in these conditions. If they pick something up, trust me, you'll know"

Lho grimaces behind his mirrored helm, turning to look once more into the darkness. He could swear there was somerhing moving out there.

Finally Dr.Hyza pauses at a large, sealed door, the tracks on the floor of the cargo passage ending at the slab of steel. The doctor curses softly, searching for a terminal or a relay point to interface with the heavy-duty bulkhead.
