Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

"Those women belong to Brother Blood."

The words hang in the pregnant pause created by their presence. Your brain damn near freezes at the sight of them, at the sound of their unified voices. With M'gann on your shoulder, you look to Speedy to make the first move. And though his first arrow is nocked, he just isn't firing. You even think you see the slightest shake in his wrist.

With a battle cry, Wonder Girl is the first to attack, she lays into the with her fists but they don't buckle like normal guys when they take a hit from an amazon. Not that you thought they were normal. They take the hits with surprising ease, and retaliate with physical might that Wondergirl has to strain herself to keep up with. She flies off while fighting two of them.

Speedy finally looses his arrow at one of the three remaining robed men and he cuts the arrow down in mid-air with a sword made from his blood, And Speedy wastes no time in creating more distance between himself and the blood soaked stranger. They both dart away, leaving you with the leader and just one other. You're considering your options when M'gann finally gets it together.

[I'm fine. I can still fight.] She says through her psychic link. Her eyes glow as she sends several hardware tools flying at the second stranger, he slices them all out of the air with their trademark blood blade but is pushed out of sight but a heavy wooden crate she throws at him.

[Clearly.] You think before squaring off with the leader. The rest of your team occupying his. Not that he seems to mind, he's been waiting patiently this whole time. You put up your fists and circle, him, he does the same, wicked curved axe head raised.

You get a better look at his face through the yellow lights of the warehouse, even under his hood you can see his sickly pale skin. His empty eyes. The scars all over every exposed surface of his body. And probably more. "All this struggle is a futile effort. All of these women belong to Brother Blood, already. And soon, you will too."

He speaks, and this time just him.

>"Who in the hell is Brother Blood?"
>"Belong to him? Can you tell this Blood guy he's coming on a little strong?"
>"You're not the usual brand of scumbag. That thing isn't gonna give me an std, is it?"

You try and consider your first move carefully, you've seen some of what these freaks are capable of, so the leader is bound to have an extra trick or two up his sleeve. "Belong to him? Can you tell this Blood guy he's coming on a little strong?"

The robed man just continues circling, his axe head dropping little droplets of blood along the floor in a circle as you both go. "Jest all you like. It won't help you, it won't save you. This night has been ordained, and the Master will return. Your struggle is meaningless."

Master? What the fuck is he on about? He likes to talk, maybe you should keep him talking. "What's your goal here, huh? Corner the market on goth chicks? Didn't know evil wizards were into human trafficking"

He sort of growls at you, baring strangely canine teeth. "You know nothing. The Daughter of Darkness will be found. No matter how many souls must be burned on the pyre to get there."

"So in other words, you haven't found what you're looking for yet?" You smile behind smugly behind your mask, but you think he get's the message when he lets out a roar and crosses his blade arm across his other. Your eyes trail down for just a moment and you realize what he's doing. you disperse and fly backwards out of his range and reassert your form.

The circle of blood he slyly formed while you two were sizing each other up explodes in a shower of concrete and shards of crystalized blood. They pepper through you and tear up everything behind you, and suddenly your very appreciative of your particular abilities. Though his miss only serves to piss him off even more. He charges you with his blood axe raised above his head.

Remembering the magical nature of his bull shit, you decide against letting the axe cut through you, and lean just out of the way. And deliver a hard right to his face for his trouble. Even with your hardened fist, striking him felt like belting a brick wall. He stumbles a bit but get's right back in the fight after spitting out a tooth.

Truly Morgan is fated to blaze his way through combat!
...And then somehow gets lost in a straight hallway or something like that.
>>
>>2605899
You enter close combat with the weirdo once more as he tries to chop you up in vain. Every one of his heavy swings misses you as you lay into him, three body shots, uppercut, duck under a big chop, slam him right in the nose. His hood falls down as he stumbles into a wooden crate at his back. He's bald, unsurprisingly. There's a myriad of complicated red colored tattoos on his bald head.

Presumably tired of your shit, he slices across his other forearm, unleashing a another gout of blood he forms into another axe head, he then rips off his cloak, revealing a similar pattern of tattoos across his upper body. "You will regret crossing the Church of Blood, metahuman."

"Quakin in my boots. Tell you what, I don't like lookin' over my shoulder so we'll come see your boss after we're done with you." He doesn't like that. He charges you again, somehow faster and more ferocious than before. His axe heads send clusters of crystalized blood flying at you that you need to disperse and reform around to avoid getting peppered.

He makes to bring both axe heads down on you, but you surprise him by standing your ground, and catching the base of his forearms in your hands. Stopping his attack dead in it's tracks. You kick him in the stomach, he barely reacts but goes sliding back a couple feet, which is all you need. You grab his left arm and disperse and reform behind him, twisting it back at a painful angle, though he doesn't cry uncle.

With your new leverage, you deliver a solid punch the side of his left axe head and shatter the thing. Now he cries out in pain. You'd call it weird but you know fuck all about magic. This could be normal. He tries to reach you with a new, longer blade on his other arm but you flip throw him to the ground before he can reach around.

Hardening your legs, you stomp down on his other arm blade and he goes nuts as it gets crushed, frothing at the mouth and such. But he's a bit noisy. You lean down and deliver one solid punch to his face, his nose is a bit crooked now. But he wasn't winning any beauty contests before so it's not much of a loss.

Once your adrenaline starts to come down, you realize everyone else was fighting their own battles here. But before you can even walk away, two of the weirdos are dropped in front of you. Bruised and tied together, restrained with rebar. Wondergirl lands next to you with a triumphant grin on her face. Though she looks as though she took a fair number of hits fighting them.

"I'm not even sure why I worried about you." You admit with a shrug.

"I could say the same to you, friend. You fought their leader and walked away without a scratch. Most impressive." She playfully socks you on the shoulder and you once again try not to show how much that shit stings.

[M'gann? How're things on your end?] You wait for a moment but she answers quickly.

[Just fine, their magic wasn't much help when a seven hundred pound crate came down on his head.] Yeah, you bet. [Oh, and I'm in telepathic contact with the others. They had a similar situation happen on the other side. They found kidnapped girls as well.]

[Looks like we oughta give NYPD a call.] You look down to your former opponent, eyes rolled to the back of his head, wounds ever so slowly oozing blood. [And Belle Rev too.]

-----

You hang back, leaning against the wall of the south building while Robin has a terse chat with the officer in charge. You don't have to hear it to know you all aren't exactly welcome here. When your leader comes back over, his usual happy grin is nowhere to be seen. "Well, that was helpful."

"So by that you mean-"

"The Sargent in chrage is glad that we cleared this place out but wants us to steer a mile clear of this case for the rest of the way"

The team groans but Robin holds up a hand, quashing the complaining. "But. The girls haven't been taken for medical care yet so we still have time for questioning. Besides, I think as far as a police case goes, the trafficking is where it begins and ends. But our job is far from over. Ghost, see if you can get something useful from them. But, be gentle. They've been through a lot lately."

You give a mock salute, and approach the girls that are being treated by a paramedic. There's a few dozen of them. It's honestly bizarre, looking at so many people that look alike grouped together. All girls, teenagers to young adults. Black hair, pale skinned, dark eyes. Most of them don't even react as you come near them. Some of them want nothing to do with you, and they make it clear by shuffling away from you.

So you give them their space and walk up to a girl you think you recognize as one of the ones Donna broke out of that trance. You kneel down next to her, and remove your goggles so she can at look you in the eye. You're not sure why, but you think it'll help. Seems like something dad would do. "Uh, hey there. I'm Grey Ghost. I dunno if you remember but me and my team helped you out back there. And were, trying to find the ones that did this to you. Not the scumbags in the warehouse, but the ones really behind it. Can I ask you something?"

She just kind of stares at you through your introduction and buries herself deeper in the blanket she got from the medics. "Okay. I just- I don't know how much help I'll be..."

>"Do you have any idea where they were going to take you?"
>"Could you tell me what you saw during your trance?"
>"Who kidnapped you?"
>"Do you know why you were taken?"
>"Do you know who those robed guys were?"

Pick TWO to ask, try to ask the important questions. Think about what you need to proceed.

I gotta step away for a bit but I'll be back shortly. Stay tuned folks.

You still know next to nothing when it comes to details on this, so you need to find the eye of this shitstorm."Well, let's start with something easy. Did you happen to catch where they were going to take you? Doesn't have to be a name, any descriptor could-"

"Phoenix." She says, cutting you off. "The men in the warehouse... mentioned that they couldn't wait to ship us off to Phoenix."

No kidding? Guess they were in a hurry to offload their human cargo. "They were that sloppy huh? So um, how long were they holding you?"

"It's only been a couple days for most of the girls here. The paramedic told us today's date when we got out. I'm just happy my parents didn't have to wait long to hear I'm still safe..." So this was a really damn quick job. You're starting to get a fuller picture now. Some magic creep called Brother Blood, is looking for someone with their general appearance. And he's using human traffickers to do it.

Welp, time for a potentially much more difficult question. ""Could you tell me what you saw during your trance? You remember that, don't you?"

She holds her head in her hands, black hair spilling over. "Yes- Yes I do. I've... never felt anything like it. I could feel the others you know. I could feel how afraid they were. Their pain. And we saw something in there."

"What did you see? Every little bit helps in something like this."

She hesitates to dredge up the recent memory but you think she wants to help. "It was awful, something red, a deep blood red with two sets of eyes. And horns. And it was just watching. Just- just watching us through the sky. It wants to get in. You can't let him in. You understand? You can't let him in!"

The paramedic gives you the side-eye, thinking your agitating his patients. And you don't blame him. You grab the girl by shoulders and try and bring her back down. "Hey, look at me. Look at my team, whatever this is. We won't let them win. The Teen Titans have got your back." Her breathing slows, and the girl nearly cracks a smile.

In no time, you're back at the tower. Everyone is a little perturbed by what they saw back there. You'd be surprised if it wasn't a little quiet around here. You and Robin are hunched over the mission table, trying to determine your next move. "Arizona? This is a big lead. Especially combined with what we got from Fate earlier."

"Whaddya mean?" You look over the geographical map, seeing nothing of meaning.

"Well, he said that one of the girl's uh- spirits, he talked to mentioned that she was taken underground. It's going to be off the books but we can find our most likely location through seismic imaging. Gotta love that Wayne Tech."

"So we should be able to find them. Then we can put the hurt on Blood. This whole thing give me the creeps." You pause. "Listen to me, I sound like Ted right now."

Robin laughs but doesn't stop working. "It's not such a bad thing. Hey listen, this is going to take a moment to finish so you might as well make sure you're all set to go before it's time. Have you checked out our workbench in the garage? That things seriously amazing. Surprised Barbara hasn't been over to play with it yet."

Heeding your buddy's advice, you head down to the garage and round the corner to find a strange metal platform about the size of a table. As soon as you put your hand on it it pops up and transforms, asking you what you'd like to work on with a holographic display. Damn.

>So, this is your Workbench. Here, you can improve on and make new gadgets to assist you. To be real with you all, I'm not sure how this is going to work yet in regards to what you can do and how many. So for now, pick ONE project under Utility Belt or Goggles.

[The Workbench]
{Utility Belt}
-Grapnel (Mark II)- This will increase travel speed and force of the grapnel, along with learning to tricks to use it with.
-Explosive Gel (Mark I)- A formula for remote explosives, low powered but strong enough to destroy sensitive equipment or disrupt durable combatants.
-Laser Cutter - A tool for building and destroying, this can get you inside of delicate devices or cut into the defenses of a sturdy object.
-Med Kit (Mark I)- An extremely compact kit of medical supplies, it can treat several gunshots wounds, harsh burns, even counteract poison. But there isn't much.
-Cryptographic Sequencer (Mark I)- An advanced tool that can be used to remotely hack computers and security systems. Can be jammed.
-Suppressor Pellets (Mark II)- An upgrade to your tool. They'll be packed with more substance and are capable of putting out bigger hotter fires. They'll also be made to restrain targets.

{Goggles}
--Camera (Includes video and a disorienting flash)

Um, you are. Until I set up my quest over on Akun, you're literally it. You have something the others lack and that's quality.

Let's see, you give the characterization of each of your characters, especially Morgan who comes off as a rough and hardy hero. You describe the environment and what's the MC is smelling, feeling etc. You describe fighting rather well.

Straight up, you are my favorite DC Quester. You're not bounding yourself to the Teen Titans cartoon, or the DCAU. You're trying to do your own thing.

And really, that's all I want at the end of the day.

Internet is still jacked up, but I've if you're even reading this that means I've managed to post it! So here's your power store for now, which I hope to expand upon in the future. But making abilities for a powerset like Morgan's that aren't straight up ridiculous is more difficult than you might think. Also, thank you anons for the kind words about my writing. Seeing that kinda stuff really refreshes me. I'm actually still trying to improve, typos are my greatest enemy. Makes me look like english is my second fucking language. I want to run today but it doesn't seem like I'll be able to post in a timely manner so I'm thinking I'll just drop updates whenever I can, as to not let this thread go to waste. Sound good to you guys?
Introducing.... Meta-Points! Extremely original name I know. They can be used to purchase new uses of their powers. You will earn them after exercising your powers particularly well, triumphing in a harrowing situation or simply living another day after a deadly encounter.

They won't come very often. So spend and save wisely!

META-POINTS = 1

[Power Store]
-Smoke Bomb (Rank 1) - Expel "dust" from your body quickly. Obscures the surrounding area and hides you from sight. Cannot hide you from heat detection or muffle sound. (COST: 1)

-Dust Wave - Forcefully disperse your body to attack everything within a certain radius of you. Be wary of friendly fire. (COST: 1)

-Ghost Walk - Allows you to near instantly disperse and reform in the form of a dodge. Also allows you to easily pass through "semi-solid" objects. (Chain link fences, air vents, sewer grates, etc, on the fly) (COST: 2)

-Smoke & Mirrors - You can create "clones" that can fool enemies but will not stand up to higher senses or closer scrutiny. (COST: 3)

-Phantom Sleight - (Rank 1) Allows you to accomplish more complex tasks with your limbs that are separated from your body. (COST: 2)

-Fist in The Dark - (Rank 1) Allows you to launch your limbs in combat and use your skills in conjunction with your ability to remotely control your limbs. Making for a unique and jarring fighting style. (COST: 2)

-Fullbody Hardening - (Rank 1) You've finally achieved density shifting of your entire body the other way around. You can become much more dense, which greatly increases your weight, durability, and strength. (COST: 4)

For now. Interesting selection though. Fullbody Hardening's useful, but pretty expensive, so we may want to get one or two others before going for it. Smoke Bomb seems useless, since we can just produce a similar effect with, well, smoke bombs, and Dust Wave doesn't really seem like we'll be able to make great use of it until we go solo. It will be useful for crowd control later on though. Smoke and Mirrors seems like it'd be quite useful, all things considered. Foes with senses that could see through it aren't extremely rare, but they're rare enough that it'd be effective against most opponents we fight, and we could create combat viable clones later if we go down that path. Phantom Sleight honestly doesn't seem terribly useful to me, though I could see some niche applications for it coming up, like pickpocketing or quietly flipping a switch. Fist in the Dark would of course be very useful in most combat scenarios, though I could see it probably taking some work to modify the fighting style that Wildcat's taught us to properly make use of it. Ghost Walk also seems pretty helpful, though it's mostly just a moderate improvement on what we're already able to do, so maybe pick it up later on, once we've got some others.

Ghost walk and Smoke and mirrors used together sounds like all sorts of usefulness. Fullbody definitely sounds the best though.

True, Fullbody Hardening's probably the strongest. It's also the most expensive though so I guess it evens out.

I know. I read enough X-Men comics to know that phasing is literally fucking bullshit.

Hey Sleepy.
New reader working through the archives, just wanted to thank you for writing a Babs who actually feels like Babs. And not like Stephanie Brown wearing Babs' skin like a freaky flesh suit. Because the current ongoing does nothing for me.
DickBabs for life. We need to play matchmaker once we get our own love life worked out.

Hey all, sorry for leaving ya hanging. A combination of real life obligations and feeling like I have no idea what I'm doing with this quest is keeping me away from the keyboard. But I'm not giving up. Be back with a run soon.

Gonna archive this in the meantime.

Thanks man, I have love for Barbara as Batgirl so I try to get it right.

Sadly, I can't align myself with the Barbara faction in the waifu wars, because I think her and dick are cute as hell together. Plus it's just really sweet how he didn't bail when she was crippled, he stuck around and was always there to remind her that it's okay to let her friends help her.

I mean, look at the trapeze and skydiving dates.
They basically boil down to the same idea, Dick does something for Babs that lets her get that feeling of flying again, like when she was Batgirl leaping between rooftops. But it's such a sweet little moment. They're both lovers and best friends, and that's beautiful.

So, when we reform from being dust, does everything have to return to its original state? Like, does the dust that made up our leg have to return to being a leg or can any of our dust turn into any part of our body? If any dust could turn into any part of our body, could we reform the dust into multiple copies of a body part?

It looks like we commonly turn our bottom half into dust so we can float around and have more freedom in moving, but if we did that, could we turn all the dust that made up our lower half into say, hands?

If we can do all that, combining that ability with Fist in the Dark so our separate limbs can launch with force and then hardening the separate limbs could provide for an overwhelming barrage of damage that could really make us a force to be reckoned with.

If we can't turn our dust into anything, that would be a cool ability to have. Call it like "Freeform Dust" or something.

That's a good line of thinking anon. Keep it in mind for the next thread though.
