/qst/ - Quests

The darkness swallows you as the Contract is sealed. For a moment, there's only an absence of color, the black vanishing along with everything else as the workings of your soul are twisted and unwound, reshaped into a new form.
Power.
Power to do what you want to do. To take what you really want.
But... What is it that you really wanted?

Your name is Ishikawa Akane. You're fifteen years old, and you've lived in Tokyo all your life. You always were a quiet person, not having socialized much at school until this year, where you met a really bright, cheery girl called Ayane. But, even before that, there was something that made your life worth living. A goal, a motivation... You think back to your little brother. After the passing of your mother, and your father's spiral into depression, it was you who picked up the slack, working at the house and making sure he was well. Defending him from bullies, giving him advice... When times get rough, thinking about him waiting for you at home motivates you.

Ever since the start of the year, you noticed strange things happening around the city. People becoming injured in strange accidents, students falling into sudden depression only to feel miraculously better the next day. Abandoned buildings being more damaged with no explanation. Things nobody but you seemed to think odd. But you looked into it, and discovered the cause.

Monsters. Beings that fed on people's negative emotions, thriving on them. It was no wonder they'd target your father, putting your family in danger. But, what happened then... the girl you met at school appeared, dressed in strange clothing. She slayed the monster, and saved your lives. You were grateful to her, of course. To find out your friend was a Magical Girl had been a shock, but not an unwelcome one. Over time, however...

>You grew jealous of her and her friends. No, it wasn't just jealousy- you had been too weak to help your brother, your father- you were too weak to help. So you asked her, begged to join them, and were denied. "It's too dangerous" they said, and many other excuses. Growing bitter, you broke away from the group, until eventually, you found him. Like the girl's companions, the source of their powers. He made you an offer... and you took it.

>You were welcomed in by them, joined their group. You fought together, ate together- You grew close to them, and were happy, for a time. But eventually, you faced a foe too powerful to overcome. You covered for your friend's retreat, becoming injured, crippled. But you covered their retreat nonetheless, the hope deep in your heart that they'd come back for you. But they didn't. They left you to die. The darkness swallowed you, whispering of revenge for their betrayal.

Darkest Route here we come!
>>
Alright! I'll start writing now, then, since it seems Betrayal is a go!-
You'll get a couple more choices before we're done with the chargen, but it shouldn't be much.

Even if those hypocrites refuse to share the power to protect the things close to us, we /will/ do so regardless, at any cost.

They've shown their true colors with their shallow, self-serving excuses. Mindless monsters may threaten people like animals slaved to their instincts, but theirs is a far more calculated malignance that harms far more than the good they bring.

But we'll overcome all those evils, by whatever means necessary. Such is the nature of our justice.
>>
The memory is still seared into your mind. Your clothes flapped in the wind, torn and scorched, as you stared down that monster, a behemoth unlike any you'd seen before. Magic had been useless. Weapons hadn't fared better, and when Ayane called for a retreat with fear in her voice, you stood your ground. Telling them to run, that you'd be fine. The tears in her eyes as she ran away... had those been a fake? Had your entire friendship been?

You can still feel the arm you lost, its absence a constant reminded of your failures. Of how weak you were, and the strenght of your enemies. But what hurts the most is their absence, the broken promises of coming back for you. Was a funeral held? How long had it been since you were dragged into the empty void?

With your right hand, you reach for something. Something that's always been at your side, something that'd never leave you. A rock to grab on to in this sea of nothing. Your weapon...

>Is a sword and shield. A symbol of the justice you fought for, of the protection you wanted to give others. You can't use the shield anymore, but that doesn't mean you're done with fighting.
>A staff, tall as you are. Magic is a powerful tool, not meant for long fights- but even as you ran low on your reserves, you managed to exhaust strenght you didn't know you had, that last battle.
>A greatsword. When the others looked at your weapon, they were impressed with your strength, praising you. But all of that meant nothing now. That awe would turn to fear, when they saw you again.

Why can't we use the shield?
>>
>>2627761
Because you're missing your left arm, at the moment. And while there will be some ways to fix that, it was lost in the battle- so you'll have to find it.
>>
>>2627755
>A greatsword
If we can wield that shit one handed, we're stronk. If we can find a way to recover the other arm, oh Boi.
I'm not sure how magic would work, with us being corrupted. Can we use magic, even without having the staff?
>>
>>2627763
You could learn magic even if you don't pick the staff, I should've made that clearer. You just won't start good at it, and you'd know some of the kind of magic the other girls can use. I'm not going to lock you out of anything, it'll just be easier or harder to obtain.

Your remaining hand grasps the handle of your blade. But it feels off, somehow. You can't quite see the blade, deprived of sight as you are, but it's rougher to the touch. Heavier. You swing the blade, feeling the momentum turn you around, spinning, until you find footing. Solid ground? The colors seem to bleed in, dark hues painting the world in cold light, your breathing regaining its normal pace as you take everything in. It's nighttime, the cloudy sky blocking the moon, but you can see without problems. Your sword has changed, you realize- it's thicker, rougher. Whatever darkness seeped into it when it was dragged along with you has changed you both.

Staring at your reflection in the river, your costume is no longer ruined. The white has been replaced with black, but the green stayed the same. The designs and decorations are sharper, the curves turning into angles, the dark green ribbons flowing in the night's breeze. You swing your sword, noting how easy it feels, even with one arm. A smile comes to your lips.

This will do.

You banish your sword, dispersing it into motes of light, and walk along the riverside. Voices scrape at the edge of your mind, the whispers of revenge you've heard before, until one grows louder and silences the rest.
"Your new power is great, isn't it? If only they could see you now" It laughs, a high pitched, childish voice.
"It's good. You've kept your end of the bargain."
"There's so much more to you now than you realize, Akane. I'm sure you'll love it even more soon~<3!"

>You sneer. This thing... it's not any better than it was when you were fighting agains it. It's a means to an end, not a friend.

Sneering, you spit into the shadows. You only took this deal for a reason, and it's revenge. You will not be used, not again- much less by something you almost died fighting. It would just discard you after it's done using you- like the Magical Girls did.

The shadows coil around your spit, and you stop, calling your sword to your side. The wisps of darkness shape themselves into the form of a wolf, black as the moonless night, its eyes the only points of light on its body. You've fought these before, they're weak on their own, but strong in numbers. Shades, you called them.
"Aw, don't be like that! How about we give your newfound powers a bit of a spin so you can see for yourself?"
You don't answer, readying your sword as more shadows take form. Five... ten. Ten Shades, against one of you, missing an arm. You drag your sword across the ground, digging a line at your side as you raise it.

You can feel the power inside your body, flowing. It feels different from before, when you weren't like this. Cold, damp... refreshing, unlike the warm glow you were used to. It sharpens your focus.

Best Roll: 4- Great Success!

You tighten your grip around the handle of your greatsword, stepping forwards as the Shades leap at you, black fangs bared. Your arm is a blur as you chop downwards, cleanly bisecting one of them with a thundering sound as the weapon strikes the ground- you release your grip on the sword, dodging another shade, before kicking it and caving its chest in, moving backwards as you grab the sword once more, swinging in a wide arc as you turn around, cleaving through three more. It's barely been five seconds, and five of them are dead. You flick your wrist, bringing up the heavy blade to block a lunge, swatting aside the beast.

The cold inside your body fills your arm. It's a calming sensation, unlike the bravery inducing heat. You skewer another Shade's skull, then use the flat of the blade like a hammer and bash the next enemy into pieces. There's only two left, and they seem reluctant to attack.

>Go in and kill them as well. They're nothing but beasts.
>Put away your blade. This fight is over.

It only takes a single swing before both the cowering Shades turn to nothing. You'd never seen them do such a thing before- they always fought to the death against you.
"It felt good, didn't it? You're so much stronger now!"

Banishing your sword once more, you ignore the voice. This was just a distraction- while it's not lying, listening to it is pointless. It'll just end up with you being manipulated. You begin walking again, the sounds of the city absent, for now. You're not even sure what hour it is, or what day. How long were you in there...?
You turn to change your course. You need to see your brother, you need to make sure he's alright, that those bastards have stayed away from him. You discard your magical girl outfit, and it melts into darkness, leaving you in your school uniform. But, the arm... There's no way you can explain that to Kaito. Or your father, for that matter.

>Simply watch from afar. If you show yourself, or go back to school, the Magical Girls will see you. And you'll lose any advantage of surprise.
>Come in anyways, even if only to tell him you're alright. He's your brother, after all, and you only came so far for him. Even if it'll hurt him to see you like that. Even if he finds out what you are.

Rolled 5 (1d6)

It seems watching has won. Let's leave a note for our little brother.
>>
>>2627854
We should probably tell him not to tell the others and how they left us to Die
>>
You can't just reveal yourself to your family. It's not just the arm, it's... everything else you'd have to do. Your father would force you to go back to school, after trying to figure out just how you lost an arm. And... your brother would likely try to get you to stop your path of revenge.
Steeling yourself, you sneak into your house, drawing on your power. Before, calling on it when not in costume was hard, like trying to access a pool's water using only a straw, but now... it's already there, eager to be used. Weaker than when you are in full gear, and weaker than when you were in costume before, but as you stare at your remaining hand, you realize the advantages this brings. How easy it could be to catch them off guard. You shake off the thoughts, for the moment, and focus on what you're doing right now. Entering through Kaito's window, you see he's fast asleep. His room is more of a mess than usual- normally you'd force it to clean it every two days, and you cleaned it up with him the day you left to fight...
You silently open his drawer, looking at him occasionally as you take out paper and a pen. Breathing in, you tap into your power to calm yourself, focusing. It's a neat trick, that one. The letter is short and to the point, maybe more than you'd like.
"Kaito:
I'm okay. I can't come home right now, but I'm not in danger.
I'll be back some day, but there's some things I need to do now, and I can't risk staying here with you until they're done, I'm sorry.
Please don't tell anyone about this. Not even my"- You froze when writing that, digging the pen into the paper and piercing it. But you continued. "friends.
-Akane"

With that done, you sneak out, closing the window as you leave, and seek out a place to sleep. An abandoned building by the riverside will do nicely.

The clouds part as you walk the riverside, the moonlight reflecting on the water. You know it's cold outside, but can barely feel it on your skin as the breeze brushes against it. What an odd sight you must be, a crippled schoolgirl walking alone by the river in the dead of the night. Pathetic.
"They will learn not to underestimate you."
You silently agree on that front. But you have no intention of letting anyone know what you are, nobody but the Magical Girls. You're living proof of their sins, and you intend to show them what you think about that.

"Hey little girl, are you lost?" A man's voice calls out from beneath the shadow cast by the bridge. Your night vision isn't as good when not in costume, and the moonlight shining in your eyes had prevented you from seeing him.
"It's you who should get lost." You answer, walking past him.
He grabs you by the shoulder.
"Where do you think you're going?"

The cold bleeds off of you and into the shadows nearby as the man tries to grab you. Something scratches his leg, causing him to yelp in pain and surprise, allowing you to step back. The shadows coalesce into a familiar shape, its eyes burning a cold, unusual green.
Did you... summon a Shade? Your hand instinctively goes to your back, as if to grab your sword, but you aren't transformed. The man is panicking, and tries to run away, but the shadow wolf pounces onto him, throwing him to the ground as he screams. You can feel the beast, a fragment of your own cold power embedded into the shadows that form it. A link, directly to your mind.

You could command it.

Perhaps rather than intimidate him into silence, we could put up an act of trying to fight the Shade off him, and telling him to run and save himself? Terrified as he is, I imagine he'll probably do it. And then all we'll be to him will be a normal girl who sacrificed herself to save him. He probably won't even know our face, since it's so dark out.

Using magic as a limb replacement isn't unique to that.
>>
Slowly walking towards the pinned man, you command the Shade-
"Stop. Put a paw in his mouth." The monster obediently shoves its claws into the man's mouth, grabbing his tounge with a dexterity it shouldn't have, keeping him quiet. This... control, feels unlike anything you've done before. The cold inside you is like a mist, lightly touching your mind, sharpening your thoughts. For a moment, you are the beast as well, feeling your claws on the man's tounge, the scent of his fear.

No. You're Akane. You're not a monster. Digging your nails into your palm, you kneel down next to the man, looking at him straight in the eye. He gags, trying to get the beast's paw out of his mouth, and you step on his arm, locking it down.
"Listen closely. I'll only say this once." You drag your words, talking slowly. "You are going to leave. I don't care to where. Hand yourself in to the police, or start a life in another city. But if I see you again, if you try what you tried with me with anyone else, or tell anyone about this, I'll know."

The wolf presses its claw a little more into the man's tongue
"And I won't stop, next time. Do you understand?"
The man gurgles, and you make the Shade take his paw out of his mouth. He doesn't speak up, just nodding. The smell of piss hangs in the air, even as the dog leaps off of him and he runs off. Disgusting.
"I was wondering how long it'd take you to learn about that little trick"
"Shut it."
"Oh, well, if you want to be like that~"

You reach for the wolf, and it eagerly sits down, awaiting orders. Feeling for the fragment of power you created him with, you...
>Dismiss it. It'll only draw unwanted attention, and you don't like it one bit.
>Send it out to gather information. You'll order it not to kill, but a tool is a tool, and not using it is a mistake.

---

On the subject of using shadows for things, you'll need to learn how to do all of that. Of course, the voice could teach you, but... Maybe you just want to learn on your own?

A tool is a tool. It's only what you use it for that matters, you tell yourself. You lay your hand on the monster's head, the creature's dark form oddly soft to the touch. Smooth. You can tell where it is, even when you're not looking at it, which is useful.
"Go. Look for information, keep an eye on my enemies. But don't let them see you- and don't kill." You stop for a second, thinking. "No injuring people non-lethally, either. If you die, you die."

The beast makes no gestures of understanding, but you know it will follow your orders to the best of its abilities. It runs off, melding into the shadows, searching.

This power... its strange. You don't think you can call on more than a Shade, not without transforming, and the fragment of power inside of it is something you cant use while its active. But maybe this merits experimenting with. At the same time, this... is is really something you should be doing, using the creatures of darkness? Something to think about later. For now, you travel to the abandoned house further along the river. A wooden thing, not destroyed only because it'd be more expensive than letting it stay there. The door practically breaks down as you force it open, but thankfully it can still close behind you. It smells of mold and dust, but it's better than sleeping out in the open.

You still have some time to kill, before going to sleep. You're not all that tired, even after the fight- but you get the feeling that's not going to last long. Maybe you should do something, before the night ends.

>Try and train with the shadowy powers without transforming.
>Experiment with the cold energy without using shadows. It allows you to think more clearly, and it seems to sharpen your reflexes.

Shadows seek to be the more Evil one, the cold just seems to be a corrupted version of the powers normal Magical Girls have.

Reaching into yourself, you grab hold of the damp cold that seems to constantly flow within you. Even when not using it, you can still feel it gently moving whenever you do, refreshing . But it is when you call on it that it becomes more, given purpose. Still, what you felt when you combined it with the Shade was not something you'd like to experience again, so you resolve to train using just the chill.

You carefully move it around your body, going through the motions you usually do in combat, slowed down. Grabbing an old, broken broom, you mimic your sword swings, experimenting with how much power you can put into just your arm, and how that affects it. It seems like you can't really focus it on a specific bodypart consciously, at least not yet, but you've gained a better understanding of how the power flows, at least.

You draw deeper into the cold, feeling invigorated. Your swings cut through the air with ease, and you can feel every small movement you make. You try to draw even deeper, and find...
Cold
It's too cold. You drop the broom, your hand aching, reddened from frostbite, clouds of condensed moisture raising off of it. Dropping to your knees, you clutch your hand as it begins to bleed, crystals of ice having cut through your skin, poking out of your palm. It hurts like hell, and you feel empty, for a moment, before the normal, pleasant cold returns. But it just makes your hand hurt worse when it reaches it.

You suck in air through your teeth, cursing the fact there's no running water in this abandoned house. The world feels a bit duller, washed out, but slowly returns to its original colors as you calm down, still clutching your bleeding hand. You'll need to be more careful with that. If you'd tried in your transformed state...

You grit your teeth. Power. It's what you wanted, and you refuse to be afraid of it. You'll master this cold, and use it to destroy those who betrayed you. Those five girls who pretended to be your friends. You breathe deeply, your hand warming up as blood flows through it. The cold, while painful, helps the healing process along. The school uniform is stained with blood, now, but that's the least of your concerns.

You spend the rest of the night drifting between sleep and wakefulness, the pain in your only hand only fading as the morning breaks.

The Magical Girls:
Ayane: Leader of the group, and the first one you befriended. Weapon is a musket, and dabbled in Light magic, last you saw her. Charismatic, and accompanied at most times by the being that gave them all powers.

Chouko: The youngest of the group. Weapon is a spear, she didn't know magic when you last fought together.

Machiko: Probably the one most gifted at magic of them, her weapon is a dagger. Doesn't have a specialization when it comes to Magic, but couldn't cast anything related to Ice , as far as you know.

Saki: Was the physically strongest one not counting yourself. Looked up to you. Weapon is a mace, wasn't interested in magic.

You awake in the disheveled bed as the sun rises, the morning light shining on your eyes forcing you out of the dreamless sleep. The night had been rough, with the burning cold on your hand waking you repeatedly, and as you sat upright on the bed, you took care to not put too much weight on it. It was still reddened, though it wasn't nearly as bad as before. You couldn't afford to wait for the hand to get any better.

You are Ishikawa Akane, and you were a Magical Girl. Now, you aren't entirely sure what you are. After your friends left you to die, you made a contract with the same forces of darkness you'd been fighting all along, having been promised power to enact your revenge on those that had called themselves your friends.

The blood-stained school uniform you're wearing will be a problem, if you want to walk around in the open- and doing that is sure to end up with someone seeing your face. Odds are your father will have already contacted the police to try and find you, and missing posters will just make your life harder. Idly brushing your hair back into place, you stretch, feeling the cold inside you stir and wake with you. It looks like the weather today will be nice and pleasant.

The hour is so early that the streets will probably be empty for a while still. Perhaps you should try to fix the clothing situation while you can do so unnoticed, get some food and water... Though, oddly enough, you don't feel all that hungry or thirsty, despite not having eaten since you awakened yesterday.

>Mentally contact the Shade, calling it back. Order it to pick up some clothes for you, if it can, maybe some food. Even if you don't feel hungry yet.
>Drape yourself in the dirty blanket and go into the city yourself. Enough waiting around-you don't plan on walking among people, sticking to the rooftops might be a good idea for now.

Fucking formatting I swear to Buddha

First things first. There's a chunk of you still wandering around the city, and you want it back. Mentally, you reach for that connection through the cold, feeling your vision dim slightly. Faint impressions reach back through the connection, the impact of paws against the ground as it runs, the cool morning air. You order it to return, and grab some clothes or food along the way, if it can do so undetected.

You exit the house, walking over to the river in the morning mist, staring at your reflection. The bags under your eyes are prominent, from your shoddy sleep, but you don't feel as tired as you think you should. These powers seem... very convenient, all around. You wonder where the catch is-
"Good morning~!"

Inwardly, you curse yourself for speaking so soon.
"What do you want?"
"To wish you luck today, of course! "
You grumble, splashing your face with some water. Not in the mood for dealing with a embodiment of evil this early in the morning. It at least seems to catch the message, going quiet. Good.

You feel the wolf coming closer before seeing it, turning around to face it so you won't have your back exposed, still not trusting the damm thing. In its mouth are some casual clothes, slightly too big for you. A hoodie and baggy pants- probably stolen from somewhere, but it hardly matters, considering what you've already done. It doesn't take long to change into the clean clothes, storing the uniform back in the house. The shadowy beast follows you around, though it remains outside after you order it to- not wanting it to stare at you as you change.
Some time has passed, and some people are already going to their jobs. The city is waking up.

>Dismiss the wolf, recover your shard of power. It's too dangerous to let it follow you around.
>Train with using your shadowy powers on it. Perhaps you can do something to make it less... obviously evil.
If you Dismiss the Shade, pick one of the following:
>Train with the cold powers without transforming. More carefully this time.
>Travel through the city, do a stakeout at the school. Keep an eye on your enemies, see if you can get any information from afar.
>Look around the city for any strange occurences. If the girls suspect involvement from monsters, they'll likely go there- And, even if you're not a Magical Girl anymore, maybe you could use the training...

You stare at the monster, deep in thought as it sits there, not much unlike a dog would. The only thing really giving it away is how still it is- well, that, and the whole "pitch black and glowing green eyes" thing. Uneasily, you reach your hand out to him, touching its head, patting it like one would an actual dog. Pat. Pat.

It doesn't really have a reaction, which leaves you wondering why you're petting a solidified form of negative emotions, or whatever these things are. But at least it gives you an idea- you know Benjiro, the... squirrel-ish thing (You never were quite sure what it was) that grants the Magical Girls their power can change shape into a more normal looking animal. Perhaps you can try to do something similar to this thing...

You reach for the fragment of cold inside the Shade, feeling for it blindly. It's located somewhere in its chest, it seems. You push a small trickle of power into it, trying to reshape it...

The cold is rigid, hard to work with, but you slowly manage to bend it, dragging the shadows along with it. It seems like it's a lot harder to modify the Shade after it's already been formed, but you keep at it, hidden behind the shadow cast by the abandoned house you've made your shelter.

It takes time before you manage to make the Shade look more or less normal- Well, it's still a big, black dog, but it doesn't look like it's made out of concentrated evil anymore. At least, for now- you're not sure how long this will last, or if it'll hold up the moment it gets into a fight. For now, though, you find yourself staring at the not-really-a-dog with satisfaction. Maybe the fact it's so imposing will prevent any incidents like what happened last night from happening again, which is a bonus.

You feel like you understand how to work with shadows a bit better.

You make the disguised Shade walk and run around the riverside, and while it looks like a dog, it doesn't really behave like a very happy one. But it's obedient, so you give it a pat on the head without really knowing why. Mentally chiding yourself for being so... well, nice to a monster, you walk along the river's edge, taking in the morning sun. Now there's definitely people going around the streets, and you feel like class is probably going to start soon.

>Your hoodie and pants should be a good enough disguise that you can spend some time around the school, watching from afar. The "dog" will likely scare away anyone who'd bother you. After all, everyone seems to think you're dead.
>Investigate around town for supernatural occurences. Staying ahead of the Girls will let you strike at the right time.

I'm being pragmatic here. Bow + wind magic will definitely be a pain with our kit, so she's a good choice while we have the element of surprise on our side.

Not to mention teaching the second closest friend we had the pleasures of dark shadow is gonna be fun. Then we can bully the kouhais together
>>
Not willing to show yourself too early, you decide that since the experiment with the dog went well, you may as well spend some more time getting used to your cold powers outside of the transformation. As far as you know, you can't actually create ice or anything of the sort- at least, not willingly. Your frostbitten hand last night did show you it was a possibility, and the power isn't just cold-feeling.

You sit down in the shade, letting the monster dog roam around and keep watch, and close your eyes, breathing deeply. Reaching for that energy inside you, taking care not to take in too much or too quickly like last time, you slowly but steadily push it around your body, visualizing it. It still aches slightly when it flows through your right hand, but you continue nevertheless. You don't quite get to do anything too interesting with it, at least not yet, but at least you made sure you could call on it without getting too over your head, and got a better grasp on the fundamentals of moving it around your body. It's sure to help in your transformed state as well.

With that out of the way, you decide you've spent too much time sitting around for today. There's things to do, and if you keep pushing them away for later, you'll probably miss opportunities.

>Investigate around the school. It'll probably be harder to get there without drawing attention to yourself, at this hour, and you're not sure you'll be able to do so without being questioned by the police about why you aren't in class.
>Investigate around town. It should be around break time at the school, so the girls might have sneaked out to fight. Or not- maybe it's a quiet day.

You command the Shade-dog to follow you as you make your way into the city, your remaining hand shoved deep in the gray hoodie's pocket. You doubt anyone could really tell who you are while wearing this oversized clothing, and the hood does a good job of hiding your face. The Shade obediently follows at your side, scaring away some people who give you odd or concerned looks. You smile- They probably think you're a criminal or a thug, out at this hour with such an imposing animal. It's not like they're wrong to be afraid.

The Shade seems to pick up a scent after around a half hour of wandering around, and you order it to lead you to whatever it is. Perhaps more Shades? Something bigger? Or... has it just smelled a good feast for itself? You follow it, running, your empty left sleeve trailing behind you until you tuck it into the pocket and hold it with your hand.

Arriving at an alley, you see...
...

Your hand curls into a fist inside your hoodie as you stare at the unstransformed Chouko, in casual clothes, carrying a bag at her side. She seems to be lost, or maybe looking for something. You stop the Shade from growling or getting closer.
It would be so easy... But should you reveal yourself so early? What should you even-
You draw on the icy cold inside, calming your thoughts. You need to make a decision- but perhaps you can use this to gain more information. You've been away for a while.
>Talk to her without revealing who you are. You know you can probably use your power to hide your voice a bit better, judging by how it felt when you intimidated that man. You want information, it's more valuable than just getting her out of the way- and if she transforms and runs away, the others might appear. You don't know if they're close by.
>Reveal yourself, pin her to the wall. Tell her just how much you hate them for what they did. Show her what they made you into. You can practically smell her fear and guilt already.

Oh its speargrill. I don't think we should tackle one of the five yet, they're not going to be pushovers, we're still missing an arm, and Shades are Mook tier, so ours won't help much. And if she gets away and tells the others about a person who can control monsters, they'll be looking for us. Hell, if we reveal everything, they'll probably immediately try to either kill us or take us back.

And I like the idea of being all mysterious right now.

Best roll is a 64. Result: ???

You step forwards, the disguised Shade doing so with you. Chouko turns around, and steps back, wary.
"Uh, hello?" You haven't even said anything yet, but she's already afraid. Good.
Letting the cold run through your throat, you speak, your voice coming out deeper. There's still some of your normal voice left, but not something a scared girl would pick up on. "Hello, Chouko."
She takes another step back, closer to the wall. " D-do I know you?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VreyMNUveM

The Shade growls, but you point down and it quiets. "What is a girl like you doing out of school at this hour? You didn't even go today."
She grips her bag tighter, trying to keep her eyes on both you and the dog.
" I-I could ask you the same!"
The cold inside you boils, eager, waiting for you to call on it. She's weak, scared. It won't be hard to just-
You grit your teeth. You're just going to get information, for now.
"Brave, are we? So much for that. Tell me, does Ayane still try to teach you magic, or has she given up on that?"
" You- how-?" Another step back. She's cornered against a wall. You take a step forwards.
"Has she? What a bad leader she is. Maybe she doesn't really care about you that much, huh? Then again, does anyone?"
She grows quiet. You know she's always had some self steem issues, and it's hit her deep.
"Maybe you should ask yourself if they really have what's best for you at heart, Chouko."
" S-shut up! They're my friends!"
Turning around, you begin to walk out of the alley slowly.
"Are they?"
You don't wait to hear her answer, picking up the pace as you get away from the alley, letting out a breath you didn't know you were holding. It was hard to hold back, to not simply take her out now, but you had planted some doubt in her. It'd pay off, in time.
"Good job! Very, very good job Akane! Those feelings of hers will be just perfect for us to track her down later!"

You freeze in place. Of course, the monsters fed on those feelings, but they had no... respect for their target's families, either. They would attack her at any time. Do you really care about that...?

>Them being hurt will only make her suffer more. All the better.
>They're not the targets of your revenge. You'll get it yourself, with your own hands- otherwise, it's not good enough. If anyone kills them, it needs to be you.

>>

I want to choke the shit out of Ayane myself, it'd be anticlimactic otherwise. We can still be evil fucks, just not "family murdering to get at them". We have family we want to protect

>Them being hurt will only make her suffer more. All the better.
Why wouldn't you use their greatest weakness?
>>
>>2630735
Probably because slippery slope and karma will end with our little bro dead and us having no chance to corrupt the others.
If we killed their family, they will want to kill us, not join us.
>>
>>2630726
>They're not the targets of your revenge.
>>
It seems we're not that far down into the hole yet.
Note that this doesn't neccesarily mean you'll end up being an anti hero, only that you draw the line at just murdering people's families to get at them. At least for now.

Consider Chouko thoroughly spooked and probably going to cry herself to sleep. Maybe you should look into that.

You don't need to worry about them immediately recognizing you in Magical Girl form, by the way. Even your sword looks different enough that they'd assume you either stole it off Akane's body, or its a different thing altogether. But if they get a good look at you during daytime, they'll probably piece it together.
Maybe a bit of Shadow magic can help with that
>>
>>2630739
Wouldn't the missing arm be a very big clue on our identity though? Or did we lose it only after the other girls have already escaped?
>>
You think back to your brother, waiting at home for you to come back, wondering how he'd have taken the letter you wrote for him. Would he be alright on his own...? After all, the entire reason you became a Magical Girl...
No. Their families are not at fault for what they did. It'd hurt them, yes, but to do that would be to give in to what the voice wants. To become a monster just as bad as any of them, another tool in his arsenal. A pawn.
You realize you were gripping a telephone pole a little bit too tightly, leaving a dent on the metal. Thankfully, nobody seemed to notice, too busy trying to not look at the scary black dog.

Making your way back home, you think about the group in your mind.
Ayane. The one that befriended you first, the leader. She'd always been charismatic, popular- You wondered why she'd take any interest in you. Of course, that only made it easier for you to trust her, once you got past your initial doubts. All the easier for her to use you as a weapon, made you eager to help her. She promised to come back for you, but didn't. None of them did. She's dangerous, probably the most out of any of them- her long ranged weapon and her light magic would be a pain.
The others... Machiko was an odd one, always buried deep in her books. You only talked a couple of times, but neither of you minded spending time together without talking, each reading something different. Talented at magic, but useless in close combat. She'd probably be in the library now, wouldn't she...
Saki you almost feel bad for. You had to force her to flee, in that fight. Out of all of them, she's probably the one you hate the least- Ayane took her away at your request, and probably prevented her from coming to rescue you, that bitch. Perhaps you could reach out to her... but then again, she didn't make any extra effort to come. She could've gone against Ayane's wishes.
As for Kaiya... You don't really want to think much about her. She's a threat, and you'd do well to put aside your feelings if you have to face her. No matter how close she was, she still...

Shaking your head, you snap back to reality. You're burning daylight. You should probably...
>Keep an eye on Chouko's family, just in case the monsters decide to attack them.
>Return to your shelter, before any other girls show up around the place. With Chouko scared, she might call them.
>Find a place where you can train in your transformed state without being bothered.

We're manipulating them, not helping them.

Seems we're going to only keep an eye on them in case they get close to stealing our kill, and taking note of how strong she is now.
>>
That girl, with her stupid issues, is going to get her family killed, isn't she? Well, you pushed her along into it. This is a good opportunity to see if she handles herself any better than before you "died", and you'll take it. Not like you intend to help her.

As preparation, you make a quick trip back to your shelter, grabbing the gray blanket you slept on from the bed, wrapping it around yourself. If you need to enter your transformed state and fend off monsters, this will be better than nothing for keeping your identity hidden. The Shade follows behind you, never straying too far as it sheds its disguise, even as you climb up onto the rooftops, aided by the ever-present chill inside you. It's not as simple as leaping up when in your transformed state, but you don't need to risk calling attention to yourself by going into it now. Making your way towards Chouko's house, you reach for the fragment of power inside the Shade, recovering it as it vanishes into wisps of shadow, feeling the power return to you. You'll be stealthier without a big black dog around.

Night falls upon the city, and the moonlight pierces through the gaps in the clouds, painting the world above the yellow streets in blue and silver. You can feel it, at the edge of your mind- your power waits in anticipation for what's to come. As you sit down on a rooftop near your enemy's home, you take out a bottle of water you pilfered from a store on the way, taking a sip and re-adjusting the blanket. It may be a bit of a long night...

Best Roll: 17 You lucky bastards, she doesn't know you're there

The night begins calm. She's already in her home, having dinner with her family, you guess. That she can still do that, live a normal life, even after yours was taken away... It fills you with contempt. Her room's window is turned on sooner than the other's- Must not have had much of a dinner, then. Probably not very hungry, considering her emotional state.
You got to her, didn't you? If she's still shaken, she probably hasn't talked with the others about it. Definitely not with Ayane, she'd have found some way to cheer her up. Some sweet tasting lies, maybe. Anything to keep her happy enough she wouldn't drag the others down, drawing more monsters to them.

" And you just put in that little bit of doubt, Akane! Just enough that she didn't try to reach for her friends. Just enough that she hasn't called them."
You nod. This would be a good time to get her... Perhaps if she does get attacked, after she's worn down by the monsters. Yes, that sounds good. The others would likely just think she'd been killed by the monsters themselves.

Waiting atop the rooftop, you scan the streets with your eyes. Shadows drag themselves across the ground, staying out of sight of the few passerbies in this area. The feeling of dread they carry with them tends to make people who aren't their targets want to leave, which is just as good for you as it is for the people themselves. Less witnesses.
The light in Chouko's room turns on again. She can feel something off, even in her current state. She looks out of the window, not spotting you- You've managed to hide yourself rather well, the moonlight not touching you at all. The shadows bellow coalesce into a shape you're not as familiar with as the Shades...

Whips, you called those. Their teeth may look dangerous, but their greatest strenght is just how dammned stretchy those limbs are. They are not as numerous as Shades, but they're smarter. Chouko notices their shining red eyes in the dark, jumping off her window and transforming in a flash of blue light, brandishing her spear as she falls to the ground.
" You came here for me?! T-then come on!" Her voice is shaky. She's not used to having to fight groups by herself.

The Whips rush forward, one of them swinging his arm as it stretches to try and grab her spear, but she swats it aside, moving closer and slamming the butt of her weapon against the chest of another monster, turning to try and cut the one that attacked first- but it weaves out of the way. You can see some Shades appearing on the ends of the street, slowly approaching the fight.
1/2
>>
Chouko awkardly tries to push the Whips away, swinging her spear to try and get some distance away, but one of them grabs her weapon, ripping it out of her hands as she stumbles back. She jumps backwards over the fence, looking around for something- perhaps cover to hide behind- but she's smacked out of her high ground by another Whip's arm. The Shades charge towards her, trying to get her while she's on the ground, but she barely manages to roll away, getting up and running towards the one that has her spear, calling it towards her- That's a new trick, you think as it flies off the monster's hands and into hers. She pivots on her right foot, turning around to skewer a Shade with her spear.

All in all, she's not doing too bad, you think to yourself. She's definitely improved a bit.

The other Whip manages to latch onto her leg, dragging her along the ground as she frantically tries to free herself, stabbing the spear onto its arm. A Shade manages to bite her, and she kicks it away, bleeding as she struggles to roll back onto her feet and put some distance away from the monsters. You can see some more are beggining to form, her fear probably smelling rather appealing...

>Intervene. She'll die, at this rate.

Intervene, but once the enemies are dead, we turn our sword to her and beat her into the ground to show how weak she is.

You reach for your power, twisting it in that familiar way. A swirl of cold where there was warmth, rotating inwards before blooming out, your form beneath the gray blanket shining with black and green. Your hand graps the improvised cloak tightly, and you freeze it, creating a makeshift icy brooch to keep it clasped on as you leap down onto the street, sword materializing into your hand as you plummet. With a slight push downwards at the right time, the Whip you landed on top of is split in half, your greatsword embedding itself into the ground with a loud rumble as the ground cracks. That got everyone's attention-Chouko herself looks shocked enough she doesn't see the attack from the other Whip coming, tossing her back and slamming her against a wall, her grip on her spear weakening. Pathetic.

As the Shades leap onto you, it's easy to simply turn around, swinging in a wide arc and vanquishing them in a single motion. You step forwards, dodging to the side as the Whip throws its arm at you, cutting its limb with a raising slash which makes you turn around from the momentum, turning your back to it. Chouko picks up the slack, however, stabbing at the Whip and causing it to stagger forwards, buying you the time to recover and rush towards it, smacking a overly aggresive Shade that had the bright idea to leap towards you with the flat of the blade, caving its chest in.

Chouko slices the Whip's footing, but it jumps over the attack, getting some distance between the two- you see the girl's hand shine, and from the tip of her spear a light mist comes out, condensing into a single projectile of water as she lunges forwards, stabbing- not far enough to reach the monster, but the projectile is sent flying, embedded into its chest. Before it can recover, you simply hack it into pieces, your sword parting its shadowy flesh like a knife through butter, spilling more solid chunks of it onto the ground, where they slowly sizzle away into nothing.

The third Whip to emerge stares at the both of you warily, before deciding to run away. Chouko begins to run after it, but in a swift motion, you grip your sword and swing at her, slamming against her stomach with the flat of the blade and throwing her against a wall, knocking the air out of her and making her spit blood.

On my part, I dislike trying to play characters who are evil purely for the sake of being evil. It feels shallow, and makes it difficult to roleplay decision-making when the reasoning behind everything reduces to "I'm evil lol".

I think it feels far more natural to play someone who commits immoral actions because some goal or ideal or specific aspect of their worldview has been warped or exaggerated far beyond what would would be considered normal.

Her eyes are wide with fear and shock as she stares at your cloaked figure, your sword's blackened metal shining coldly in the moonlight. Chouko tries to speak, but the blow has robbed her of that, and she only coughs up more blood as she slumps down onto the ground, clutching her stomach.

You step towards her slowly, dragging your blade against the ground, letting the icy chill run through your throat to mask your voice.
"Pathetic."
Her eyes are welling up with tears. She doesn't understand. She doesn't know why a Magical Girl would attack her, after saving her life.
If only she knew you were going to make things much, much worse for her. You smirk, your face hidden beneath the cloak.
"You think you can defend your family like this? If it wasn't for me-"
You take another step closer, and she tries to reach for her spear. You step on the shaft of her weapon, pinning it down as it tries to fly towards her.
"-You would all be dead"
" W-why..."

You shake your head "Do you want to know why you're so weak, Chouko?"
She doesn't answer, cowering, trying to get away even though she's backed up against a wall. You slam your sword into the solid concrete at her side, and she falls to the ground, panicking, but too afraid to run away. "It's because you rely on them too much. Because you think just having your friends is enough to make everything alright. But it's not."
You release your grip on your weapon, grabbing her by the neck and lifting her up, enough that she can't get a good look at your face, and begin strangling her. She can't even resist your grasp as she tries to grab your arm.
"How can someone so worthless call themselves a hero? " You maintain your grip, watching her slowly suffocate.
"Yes. Yes!"

You drop her to the ground, and she struggles to breathe, clutching her throat. You grab your sword again, removing it from the cracked wall.
"Wh-" She can't even finish a word, wheezing as she tries to draw breath.

You turn around, banishing your sword and picking up her spear. She stops moving, slumping down onto the ground even more. Given up. You put her spear against her throat, pressing against it slightly.
"You can't even fight back" You spit out.

You press the tip of the spear a bit more into her neck, drawing a small trickle of blood. She closes her eyes, tears running down her face.
Pulling the spear back, you step away from her. "I'm not done with you yet."
She slowly opens her eyes, terrified of what else you could do to her. The spear has stopped trying to escape from your grip, and now feels heavy in your hands. You let your cold run through it, small cracks appearing along its surface, its shining colors losing their luster, darkening. Chouko tries to reach towards it, and you tighten your grip, breaking her weapon, and it crumbles to dust in your hands. She weakly reaches towards the dust, grabbing a bit of it in her hands, but it slips through her fingers.
"You're not a hero, Chouko. Welcome to reality."
There is no answer as you walk away from her, coming out of your transformed state. There's a bitter taste in your mouth, but you swallow it down. This is your revenge. It's why you're here.

"And I thought I was cold~"
You whisper back to the voice "Shut up. She's not going to be a threat to us anymore. Keep your minions off her."
"I'll give you that much. Her suffering has been enough to feed them for a while. But why didn't you kill her?"
You don't give an answer. But, inside, you know.
You can do worse than killing them.

You leap across the rooftops, the shadows following you taking shape. Your Shade trails behind you, a reminder of what you are now. Of what you've done, of your own free will. You wonder if you'll ever be.

Climbing down onto the streets, you discard the blanket, adjusting your oversized gray hoodie. The Shade's form shifts, disguising itself as you wander through the busy city, looking for a place to rest and train. Eventually, you end up rather far from where you started at- having walked past love hotels, drunkards and pachinko parlors, entering into what seems to be a casino devoid of any security. Closed down after bankruptcy, most likely. This will do, for tonight- you've gone too far from the shelter to return before the morning.

The Shade curls up near the corner of the room, and you push away some of the few pieces of remaining furniture, entering into your transformed state. Calling your sword, you begin to do some basic exercises, making sure you're keeping yourself in shape. Adjusting your fighting to your lack of an arm. You're not sure how much time passes before you decide it's been enough, sitting down next to the monster dog, exhausted from the fighting and the training, as you drift into sleep.

The next morning...
"Chouko still hasn't said anything. You think she's okay?" Kaiya asks. The rest of the group mumbles, not sure either, their leader mysteriously absent.
Saki is the next to speak up "I'll just ask her myself. We can't keep quiet about this- she's our friend. She can't keep avoiding us forever."
"Yeah. I'm sure it's nothing big, but we have to ask- maybe things got worse at home?" Machiko chimes in.
"Maybe. She's had it rough recently. We all have."
---
" Just...leave me alone"
"Chouko, what's wrong? Come on, tell me-" Saki reaches for her arm, but the other girl swats it aside. " I-I can't... Don't touch me, please."
"Did something happen at home? Is that why-"
The blue haired girl storms off, and Saki makes an attempt to follow her, but stops halfway through a step. Why didn't she want to talk? She was never like this before. And at gym class, she refused to change with them- was she hiding something? Were things really that bad at her house?
Dammit. It was at times like these that Akane would've said something. She would've done something. Losing her had been rough on everyone, they should've stayed and fought with her. Even if they all died- leaving a friend behind... No matter how much Ayane sugarcoated her sacrifice. Even if the others had accepted it.
She let her head hang, and walked back into class. There needed to be something she could do...

Alright! It's been a long thread, so I think I'm ending it here for today. I'll see if I can arrange to continue tomorrow at the same hour.

Saki proves to be best girl and I want to recruit her and foster her hatred of their leader so she can hold her in place when we cut her head off
Make her a spy, maybe. Double betrayal. Revenge betrayal?

>>
>>2630975
Good good, i'll try to be there.
>>
Even if we corrupt the others I think we should kill Ayane. I feel that at best she'll try to usurp us.
>>
>>2631025
Yeah, I don't know about just corrupting everyone, but Ayane seems to be the one that kept them from coming for us, at least for Saki.
So if anyone has to die, it's her. The others just followed orders from their charismatic, Light elemental leader who can do no wrong.
>>
>>2630930
>>2630949
What exactly is our way of thinking? As far as I can tell, our current perspective is:
>everyone will try to use you, from your friends to your enemies
>you can't rely on anyone apart from yourself to protect what's important to you
But I feel like corrupting people to that point of view wouldn't exactly make allies of them.
>>
>>2631057
Well, you basically know for sure the evil being you made a contract with feeds on people's suffering and you were fighting it before. It using you isn't really something you doubt, you're just okay with it right now because it means you get to take your revenge.
What we told Chouko was mostly to break her, but you do think you can't rely on your friends alone. Especially considering who hers are- they already betrayed you.
You basically believe the only reason Ayane reached out to you was to use you as a Magical Girl, and you weren't useful enough to risk going back for you, so she just let you die, and nobody went against that.
>>
We should find our grave.
>>
>>2631078
That'll be a hell of a question after the reveal.
>How many? How many other girls have you roped into this? How many have you left behind? That could have been saved? That died alone. How many more will you build up just to toss aside? You didn't care that I died, my use was done. What's another drop in the bucket? Because that's the sick joke behind all of this. There will always be shades. Because there will always be magical girls.
>>
So no one thinks that Saki is potentially the most dangerous of these girls?

If we hate her the least, then she's the one who has the best shot of catching our ear. Who knows what kind of rational excuse could get shilled at us.
>>
>>2631166
Quite the opposite, she feels the guiltiest about leaving us, so we can make her suffer with that and probably get her on our side so we can utterly fuck with everyone else by having both a dead teammate show up for revenge and a friend turn against you.
>>2631133
I like this. I like this a lot.
>>
>>2631166
It'll probably be a game of Cat and Mouse concerning her or Ayane.
Possibly on the level of those old investigation shows and movies where the Investigator has to catch a serial killer. Only we're the serial killer and Saki is the Investigator.

>>2631169
I do want to kill at least one of the MGs besides Ayane.
>>
>>2631174
Saki seems to not like Ayane as much anymore, which is perfect for us. We can get into a payphone, call her number and try to meet with her alone. She'd probably go for it. And we can both make her suffer to appease our revenge boner and guilt trip/corrupt her into an ally.
>>2631174
I think we will have to, actually. I DOUBT Spider would let us get an ending where we don't kill any other of our former friends. Possibly Kaiya.
>>
>>2631178
I think a payphone to meet her alone is stupid. Not without some sort of priming
>>
>>2631182
I suggest letters. Especially ones where we don't write so we don't leave a signature writing style on it so they can't tell if it's us.
>>
>>2631187
At that point you could send an email.
>>
>>2631191
You could but that can be easily traced. Especially if one of the MGs has some kind of magic bullshit involving technology or knows someone who is a tech wizard at that sort of thing.
But that's just my Shadowrun'in schizophrenia acting up. An Email might work for this situation.
>>
>>2631078
How hard would it be to have the shades look like us? We could play hell with Saki. Keep having them around in places she would spot and then vanishing before she can catch them.

Plus with the pic >>2630649 I'd really like to see a similar standoff to the end of the video but with a million Akanes instead of wolves.
>>
>>2631287
>Literal shadow clones.
Very, very hard. Making a Shade that looks like a wolf made of shadow into a big ass black wolf dog was already pretty hard. You'd need to train a lot with the shadows to be able to do such a thing.
As for Saki... Poor girl, you can mess with her in a lot of ways. Do it right, and you may get some value out of it. Do it wrong, and man, am I going to have fun.

I'd be fine with the phone thing if it was calling for help/saying we're lost. But not giving a location until she's worked up and desperate.

I think it'd also be cool if we improve our shadow abilities to allow us to teleport/hide.

That way we can like follow her halfway home one night in the bloody school uniform asking for help, then disappear.
>>
>>2631385
Oh I know that we wouldn't get off easy. That doesn't mean that won't be one of the most picked options anyway. Will we be able to improve through regular combat as well or will we always have to try and put time aside to make any real gains?
>>
>>2631397
You can train by combat. I've given you the option a couple times to seek out Shadows to murder for training. Arguably better gains, but riskier, since you'll both be fighting monsters alone and risking other girls showing up.
>>
>>2631409
Ok. I misinterpreted those options then. I thought they were more for info gathering on how the girls choose targets and any patterns they have when fighting or hunting.
>>
>>2631174
I would rather turn them into our willing slaves and then take over the forces of evil, honestly.

Fuck my country for being on 4chans blacklist of spam/abuse through mobile devices, thus incapable of posting on the job. All the stuff i wanted to post but now it's kinda pointless. For the better maybe.

I hope we're not done with Choke-oh just yet. Those were just some mean spooks, but we need to make her really feel it, you know. Like getting slowly swallowed into darkness and chewed on for who knows how long kinda way.
So we could reel her in, and take Saki with her too at that. Will need some more training though.

I guess, but it's going to be ass swapping back and forth on the phone. Plus the most interesting stuff is present in the thread.
>>
>>2631570
It just means that our next step should be building her trust in us. This is either the time to a reveal to her, under the stipulation it stays between us and her, or promise her true power to protect what is important to her without the baggage of those 'friends' weighing her down.
>>
>>2631608
Have our dog stalk her for a little while and wait until the girls aren't checking up on her anymore and corner her. Talk to her about how easily they abandoned her. We can help though.

We already died for her once after all
>>
>>2631576
Because the plan was to actually show that while running it in the thread through bonus posts, or you running into her.
>>
>>2631608
We could start making a name for ourselves.
The connection to the darkness (or that fag in our head) could allow us to make preemptive strikes on some monster spots, while training at the same time, and make quick getaways right before the merry bunch shows up, signaling that there is a hunter of sorts in town.
Chouko would obviously know, as she already faced us. Being quick and more efficient than they could potentially lure her in (with the prospect of strengh to protect her family and friends, which she most probably has non as of recent). And if we try the "fake promises" approach, catch her in the beartrap of darkness. Let the "fag" have his way with her a bit, have her feel some of the wonderful sensations we did while being caught in it. Then spit her out as our little servant with as much sanity and personality needed to resemble her usual self and be sufficiently useful as a bigger bait (note that it should be more damage, but not complete destruction of her character).

tl;dr Whew, damn this quest makes my inner edgelord cry.

For me it's definitely that secret club vibe that tends to happen. The other thing is if I miss a thread or something and an trying to catch up I don't want to sort through chat logs for context.

Honestly as long as anything lore or quest related is put in thread and no major decisions are done in the discord I don't mind as much.

Slowly, you open your eyes, your back sore from resting on the hard, dusty ground. You don't even remember going to sleep- what is that weight on your legs? You kick it off, and the black Shade goes flying a good couple of feet, scrambling onto its feet. Figures, you must've trained until pretty late- you're sure the bags under your eyes have gotten worse.

You are Ishikawa Akane, ex-Magical Girl and the first person you've known to break a Magical Girl's weapon, along with her spirit. Stretching, you stare out the boarded windows of the abandoned casino, noting how late it is- It seems you slept through a good chunk of the morning, not like this area of town has many people on it once the drunks and gamblers get home. Yesterday, you encountered one of your former teammates, and rendered her into a crying, broken and useless mess. Though, to your credit, she was already an useless piece of garbage.

"Good morning, Akane-chan~"

And the voice of Evil itself has the terrible habit of talking to you without permission.
"Good morning." You mumble back, your green-eyed Shade coming to your side. You're feeling a bit peckish, for the first time since you woke up, two nights ago. Probably best to not keep delaying eating something, just in case you get into a fight.
>Shoplift some food. Not like you have any money on you to pay, anyways.
>Ignore it, for now, and focus on the task at hand:
>Investigate around town for monster attacks. Training on your own isn't going to be as effective as fighting yourself.
>Stalk Chouko. After what you did to her, it'll be easy to track her with your Shade- and her "friends" will probably be trying to figure out what happened.
>Look around the city in places where you know the other Magical Girls could be. Chouko is done, for now, so you may as well keep the streak going.

Since I posted 15 minutes ahead of schedule, I'll extend the vote time for a bit while I clean up some things.

Well, I'll begin writing. Seems we're going to be a nasty crimegirl shoplifter.

You're hungry, and that's not a good thing to be when you're planning on getting your revenge. Shaking off some of the dust that got on you overnight, you exit through the doors you broke into last night, your shade obediently following behind as its form shifts, disguising itself. It's a good trick you've taught it, that one. You resist the temptation to pet the not-dog as you make your way towards the center of the city, passing by the closed love hotels and- Are there people still playing pachinko? You swear one of them has spent all night playing.

It's a good walk before you reach a grocery store, open so early in the morning. Seems like they're hard working folk, even though they probably don't get all that many costumers here. The Shade walks into the store, staring at the woman working at the counter, and she seems... worried for a moment, looking around for the owner of the dog- but you're hidden behind a corner. You command the Shade to bark, grabbing her attention, and quickly grab a couple of apples, putting them into your hoodies pockets, walking away calmly. The Shade follows shortly after. That'd been... easy. You wait until you're a couple streets away to pull out an apple and begin eating away at it, the fresh fruit tasting great in the cold morning.

Today there shouldn't be school, so all the girls are probably doing their own thing. Judging by the newspapers, you were gone for... two weeks. Two weeks, you spent inside that empty, dark void. Waiting for them. You almost crush the apple in your hand, but that'd be a waste of food.

>Stalk Chouko at her home. See how she's doing- you don't know what the side effects of destroying her weapon are, and if the others try to help her, you might end up having to face her again.
>Visit the library. Machiko is probably there, and keeping an eye on her is important as well- her magic could be dangerous to you, and besides, it's not like you know enough about her to break her like you did Chouko. Not yet.
>Wander around the city looking for monsters to fight.

Chouko worries you. Not because of her being in danger- you couldn't care less about her, now, even if you still hate her, it's... like she doesn't even really register as an enemy you need to be careful with. Just something that could become dangerous again if the others get to her. Plus, you're curious what the effects of breaking her weapon were- and if they'd do the same to the others...

Making your way towards her home, you dismiss the Shade as you climb up on the rooftops, the rush of power returning to you as it vanishes into shadows. It's not as easy to hide now, with the morning sun on the sky, but you doubt any of them are going to be staring at nearby rooftops- Except for maybe Chouko herself. Grinning, you wonder just how much that'd scare her. You know normally she goes out in the morning to get groceries, but today she doesn't seem to be coming out... perhaps she's still stuck in her room, crying like the little bitch she is.

A while later, and as you're eating through the second apple, you see someone exit her house- Saki? You knew the others would try to cheer her up, or find out what was wrong with her, perhaps, but only one? Just seeing her makes your blood boil... But revealing yourself might be a bad idea, in broad daylight. She seems frustrated, closing the door with a slam. Not getting through to Chouko, is she...?

>Don't get close to Saki. Simply wait for her to leave, and figure out a way to get a better look at what Chouko is doing.
>Get close to Saki, still hiding who you are. She's likely to be feeling very guilty, and her frustration with Chouko will make it even easier to take advantage of that. The others didn't even bother coming, it seems...
>Follow Saki from afar, instead of staying to watch Chouko.

No time for distractions. Saki is still your enemy, but you're focusing on the one that's already down, for now. You just need to figure out a way to get a closer look without revealing yourself... Some way to peer through that window and she what she is doing. Saki seems to stay around for a while, but eventually leaves, clearly frustrated. Good, you think- maybe you'll let her stew in that frustration for some time.

Chouko doesn't seem to be going to leave the house, so you go over what you know you can do. The Shade is too big, and it'd only scare her to death- as well as her family. No way you can sneak a wolf that big into her room. You, yourself, could probably jump through the window- but that's also not subtle. The cold inside you roils, eager to be used. As if there's something it wants to show you... or perhaps you just already have an idea.

>Simply walk up to the house, introduce yourself as a friend from school, and act normal. Confront her about her betrayal, about her weakness. About how they all left you to die- and about how they're going to leave her as well.

You breathe deeply, reaching inside for the eager chill, letting it flow through your body, refreshing. Feeling the exhaustion from the lack of sleep fade, your thoughts sharpen, and you begin to work on shaping that energy. Moving upwards from the pit of your stomach, you feel it beat along with your heart, slowing down as you draw more and more on it, guiding it to your eyes and ears.

The colors of the world become dimmer, desaturated. It's not black and white- but there's only the faint impression of color upon things. Blues and whites seem to pop up more, points of color in the faded world. Your vision sharpens, and information fills your head, like a zoom applied while still being able to see everything else. It's rather jarring, and you find it hard to focus at first, but you manage to peer into the girl's room, the sounds from the city loud in your ears until you manage to tune them out.

Chouko is sitting in front of her desk, her head resting on her hands, and her hair a disheveled mess. She hasn't bothered to change from her pajamas, which are stained with tears, and her bed doesn't look sleeped-in. Has she been awake the whole night? You wonder how long it took her to crawl back into her home. You can hear her lightly sobbing, though you can't quite make out the thing she's staring at from your current position. There's papers strewn around the floor, and she seems to have placed furniture in front of the door to keep it from being opened.

>Maybe you should wait a bit longer. Her state is downright pathetic, and it pleases you to see her like this...

You climb down from the rooftop, letting the cold fade from your senses, returning them to normal. Well, normal for you since you became like this, at least. Adjusting your hair, and shoving your left sleeve into the hoodie's pocket, you walk up to the house, your face visible. It feels odd to do this, to show who you are- but you never really had met her parents, and they're not likely to recognize you. Besides, a friend already visited- they won't look too hard.

You knock on the door, and it opens after a short while. A burly, slightly balding man opens the door with a gruff expression on his face. " Let me guess, another of Chouko's friends?"
You nod. "Can I come in? She didn't seem to be doing too good last time I saw her."
The man stops for a moment, looking back towards the stairs leading up to the girl's room. Seems he's trying to decide if he should let you visit his daughter, when she clearly doesn't want visitors.
"Please? I..." You let the cold clear your mind of the anger bubbling up inside you. Just put on the act. "...I'm just worried about her."
"...Come in." He steps aside, closing the door behind you as you go up the stairs, thanking him. Staring at the girl's door, you take a moment to collect yourself before knocking. You'll have to keep her from screaming...
"I told you to leave, Saki!"
"She did." You answer, your tone neutral. You can hear her scrambling off the desk, shocked-

---
That voice. That voice you just heard- It's impossible. You must be hallucinating. It must be the lack of sleep- yes, that's got to be it. You're just feeling so guilty you're hearing things. Ignore it.
"Chouko? Are you in there?"
You slowly get up from your chair, walking towards the door. "A- Akane...?"
---
Her voice is filled with doubt. With fear, and guilt. You smile, turning the doorknob.
"I just wanted to check on you. Come on, open the door."
"But, you're- We-"
Your hand grips the door tighter, and you can feel the cold inside you almost leap to the front, eager to please. But you push it down.
"Please?"
You can hear the movement of furniture from behind the door...

You open the door slowly, after it's unlocked, stepping in. You took care to remove the hoodie you were wearing when you confronted her with the Shade, wearing a shirt instead. Her eyes are wide in shock, and she takes a step back after you enter, closing it behind you. She's trapped here.
"You're...dead..."
"Am I? Do I look dead to you, Chouko?" Anger begins to seep into your voice as you walk closer to her, and she keeps taking steps back.
" I-I didn't know, I thought-"
"You thought."
She doesn't answer, wrapping her arms around herself, terrified, as her back hits the wall. She's completely at your mercy... You can already taste her emotions, the confusion, fear, the guilt.

"Only Saki, huh? What about the others, did they come visit?"
Chouko looks confused for a second, before shaking her head.
"Shows you how much they really care about you." You step forwards, and she slides down to the ground, hugging her knees. "I'm... sorry, Akane..."
"Sorry? Sorry?!" You raise your voice "Sorry isn't good enough, you piece of shit."
You kneel down on the ground in front of her. "What you did to me was a betrayal. You left me to die, and I waitedfor you. I fought until I lost my arm. I fought until I was about to die. And here I am. I had to crawl out of there on my own, because none of my so called friends kept their promise to come back for me." You spit out the words, the other girl already crying.
"I-I know I'm garbage. I should've never... become a Magical Girl. I'm not a hero. I'm not good enough, I-sob I can't-"
"You can't even protect your family."
Her eyes widen as the realization dawns on her. Greatsword, the sheer strenght, the missing arm...
"You..."
"I showed you, didn't I? What you really are?"
She keeps her head down, unable to look you in the eye, but you grab her face with your hand and force her to stare at you. "You should've... killed me"
"I should have. But you're not even worth that much, Chouko. You're not worth me dirtying my hands any more than I already have. And what do you think your "friends" think of you, that they didn't even come here to help you? That only one of them would bother? She won't come back tomorrow, Chouko. None of them will."
She's openly crying now, not even resisting your hold of her face. Pathetic.

I'm at a loss on what to do. She's breaking down by the second. More pressure may just make her completely broken down, thus useless.

You turn around, heading towards the door. She's finished, utterly. You can feel the stench of despair coming off her, ripe for the picking- it almost makes you want to-
You clench your fist. You're not a monster- you're not the same as a Shade or Whip. Taking another step forwards, you reach for the door handle- and something grabs you by the ankle. You look back, only to see Chouko with her face against the floor, crying, and trying to crawl closer to you.
"You're pathetic, Chouko."
"I- I know... But..."
You raise an eyebrow. What is this all about? She should be completely broken. You almost expected her to try to kill herself, at this point.
"I... I don't want to be alone. I don't want to be useless..." She sniffs, trying to hold back the tears. "I'm garbage, but... please... even if you just want to insult me, please don't leave..."
You reach down, grabbing her hand and pulling it off your leg. She looks defeated... "You don't want to be alone? You have the nerve to say that, after leaving me for dead. Maybe you're not a complete coward. Or you're more stupid than I thought."
She remains quietly sobbing on the ground, her hand going limp.
Maybe... Maybe you have a use for her. She will suffer, not just for the voice's amusement, or your revenge... She will suffer for you
"Stand up."
She quiets down, slowly raising her head to look at you.
"Didn't you hear me? Stand up." You drop her hand, forcing her to try to do so on her own. She slowly gets to her knees, shakily standing up.

"But..."
She looks at you, still struggling to stand up.
"If you really want to stop being garbage, Chouko, you have to be willing to give up everything for it"
You extend your hand out to her, and in her eyes you can see a moment's doubt. You begin to slowly pull your hand back, and she reaches for it, grabbing.
"I-I... Accept, Akane."
You smile, and help her up. It's not a warm or friendly smile. You got yourself a new tool to use for your revenge, and you have oh so many ways to use this one...
"Recruiting, are we? And here I thought you'd just murder them all!"
Ignoring the voice, you break the handshake, putting your remaining hand into your pocket. "You can't tell any of them about this. I will know." She nods, seeming delighted that someone cares about her. Or so she thinks.
"I'll see you tomorrow. For now... clean yourself up." You don't wait to hear her answer before leaving. Her father stares at you as you leave, trying to decide if he should say anything, but you don't stay around for him to do so. As you close the door behind you, the shadows at your side coalesce into the familiar shape of your Shade.

This is going to make breaking the others all the easier...

Or
>Wander around the city.
Both seem decent options, as both can imply training. We might want to get some more food and maybe have the shade scout around a bit.
I think we also pretty much Need to find some monsters to kill right now, to see if we got better with our skillset. Chouko would be too much of just a punching bag for adequate sparring.

It's mostly fine.

Alright. writing. Seems we're going back to the shelter.
>>2634207
Mhm. I'm actually surprised you haven't gotten into more fights than you have.

Have a bit of a headache, this might take longer than i'd like - and it's getting to lunchtime. Might cut the thread a bit short today and archive it.
>>
Tired- not so much physically as emotionally- you head back towards your original shelter, the abandoned house by the riverside. Putting your hoodie back on, you hide your face as you walk through the busy streets of Tokyo, the big, black dog at your side keeping most people away.

The weather today seems rather nice- despite the cold morning, it seems to have warmed up considerably, and your baggy pants and oversized sweater aren't helping. You consider letting the cold run through your body to refresh yourself, but decide agains't it- may as well enjoy the sun for a bit, since you seem to be doing so much at night recently. Your thoughts wander back to the remaining girls- If Chouko holds to her word, she could be a nice spy, but letting her back into that group might undo the work you've done on her, and risk the secret of you being alive getting out too early. You could also train her, see the effects breaking her weapon had on her capabilities as a magical girl. She seems to know the basics of water magic, now, which might even help you get a better grasp on your own icy powers.

Sitting by the river, you let the Shade run around and tire itself out. You're not sure if it's just acting like a dog because you want it to pretend to be one, or because changing its shape has affected it. Either way, it doesn't look all that weird.

>Train with the cold before going to sleep. It'll probably help against the heat, too.
>Train with shadows. You've been kind of neglecting them.
>Do some light physical training, then go to sleep.

Would be nice to explore the potential of this. Plus shadow arm would be kind of cool.

we can train ice once we have Chouko for help with magic. Which is probably what she's the most useful for, honestly.

Yeah, the shadows need some love too. They can help with some shade as well. And i'm sure that can go somewhat op during the night.

AM I?
Honestly doing crits on 100 and 1 does make them a lot rarer, so I'm unsure what the range should be. As much as I enjoy you fucking up. It'd have to be 3 or less, since in your first fight you rolled a 4 and it wasn't a crit.

I'll be kind, just this once, because you haven't been doing too hot in training And believe me when I say you're not going to keep stomping enemies easily for long

What do you mean, we didn't fuck up too much yet have we?
>>
>>2634238
You crit failed the first ice training, and you've been avoiding serious fights so far, so you aren't as experienced with your powers as you could be.
However, I think you're actually doing pretty damm great- You've potentially corrupted one of the girls, haven't revealed yourselves, and seem to be using the Shade pretty well.

All in all, you can probably take the coming fights if you play smart. But this is /qst/. Playing smart only works if everyone agrees on it, so being a little stronger can't hurt.
>>
>>2634241
Technically, we made some really barebones training and severly lack actual practice (as most decided to just rush into one of the girls). Potentially, we shouldn't be able to do much if it comes to a serious all out fight, especially light magic Ayane.
Beats me why everyone wants to skip from basics right into the fray without trying to master our stuff at leat half decently.
>>
You sit in the shadow cast by the abandoned house, letting yourself relax, no longer oppresed by the evil rays of the sun. You briefly wonder if you are becoming a vampire, but that'd be silly. You're clearly a revenant, if anything.

Placing your hand against the grassy ground, you grab the shadows, pouring power into them slowly. It's like a particularly dense liquid, dripping down from your hand like black honey. You scoop up as much as you can, moving the fragment of power inside of it around, much like you did when you reshaped the Shade.

-Roll:20- Success!

The shadows quiver, responding to your commands and flowing around your hand, covering it in the inky black liquid. With an exertion of will, it solidifies into a glove- though, on a second look, it's more like a gauntlet- rigid, solid. Probably could help defend. You scoop up more shadows, letting them run over your arm, seeing how much of it you can cover without putting more power into it. You notice the power is never spent, at least not while you're just using the shadows like this- much like with the Shade, it remains inside, and you can retrieve it when you banish them. With your hand clad in black armor, you step into the light- it seems to weaken and waver, slightly, but it stays on. This new trick seems useful- who knows what else you could make, shaping the shadows?

You give it a try, molding them into different shapes. A knife, a shield- they're hard to maintain for long, but as you continue practicing, it comes easier. You can't quite control much substance, untransformed- but you feel rather satisfied with what you've learned, as you throw yourself on top of the bed with a sigh of relief.
You made good progress today.
>>
>Shadow armor and weapons
YES.
YES.
YES.
This is so fucking versatile. Maybe we can even use it to make keys to enter people's houses. A fake costume to wear while in untransformed state to hide our identity. We probably need to get better to make a moving arm but this is so good.
>>
That'll be the end for now, folks. I'm going to take a break for lunch, and I'll try to be around to answer some questions if you guys have them.
How was the thread? Did you enjoy it? Any tips?
As always, thank you for reading Dark Magical Girl Quest. You people are very supportive of a new QM.

Thanks for the thread, OP. Next one is Monday, right? Same hour?
Cant wait to give these powers a spin in battle. Once we get a shadow arm, we can supplement our fighting pretty well. Shadow throwing knives for a sudden, unexpected ranged attack would be neat.

Oh we can do so many things once we have a shadow arm. Like getting in a sword clash and just having a spike come out from our arm to impale them
>>
So, Kaiya or Machiko next, for the "kill someone"?
Saki we can probably bring along eventually, but all others need to die and I want some blood already
>>
>>2634386
Think we should train and get Saki in first. She or Chouko may even end up sharing some extra info on the others to choose our target more properly.
>>
>>2634386
We'll need to kill the one that can discover us faster. That way we buy enough time to kill another one before our cover is blown even further.

Dammm real life making me missying all of this, good fun times.

I would have smacked that bitch all over that floor and then it would have looked more like her dad is beating her and then mybe the other girls would have came an dkilled her dad

Ayane definately needs to go first. The longer she's left alive the more dangerous she'll get.

My plans for the MG
Chouko - masochistic minion
Saki - corrupted right hand/sadistic girl
Machiko - our slut possibly mindbroken she will adore us as her mistress submissive as hell
Kaiya - my plan is also to make her a scout but I dunno I need more info. If corrupted she can be our eyes and ears
Ayane - Let's rape her first, then mentally torture her, then feed some despair from our wolves but not enough to kill her, heal repeat until we are bored and kill her.
>>

>mindreak
Shit fetish desu
I don't feel Akane has any good reason to corrupt any of the girls instead of killing them, besides maybe Saki. I'll support anything that sounds like a solid plane, but I fucking swear I'm gonna be salty as fuck if not outright killing Ayane first fucks us over.
>>
Reminder: No thread today. The next thread is Monday at the usual hour.
I'm pretty sure I know who Saki anon is irl so I'm going to give him a present

>>I don't feel Akane has any good reason to corrupt any of the girls instead of killing them, besides maybe Saki

I'm in the same boat with you. I don't think Akane would consider any pragmatic reasons for corrupting the other girls and would be working mostly on the emotions she has about the betrayal.

We know Ayane was trying to teach Chouko magic but was clearly having difficulty and we broke her through exploiting her feelings of inadequacy which were probably already there from being the youngest and being shit at learning magic.

I think it is extremely important that we teach Chouko to use magic once she gets a dark form herself (her never getting a new weapon and going full wizard would be awesomely thematic to me). Not only would it help mentally reinforce Chouko's decision to join us and make it more unlikely that she would ever switch back, it would be an extra FUCK YOU to Ayane "Not only are you a backstabbing bitch, but you are a shit teacher. I taught your student better then you ever could you miserable excuse for a leader".

To me corrupting Chouko (the youngest and most vulnerable that they would naturally want to protect) was more about hurting the remaining members of the team anything about Chouko herself, but now that we have her I think it would be great to slowly start feeling a spark of responsibility for her in our small team. Being a better leader than Ayane (so we can rub it in her face) and eventually adopting a hardline 'no man left behind' sort of mantra for our little group both seem very in character to me.

The only other target for corruption i feel would be Saki. It has been made pretty clear that Saki gives a shit about her friends, both with nearly refusing to leave us and being the only one to go check on Chouko. It also seems natural that we would want to recruit our kohai to save her from that bitch Ayane. While we broke Chouko to hurt the team, we should break through to Saki because we like her and want to spare her from our wrath, she did the least wrong out of the entire group (not that she didn't wrong us, but we can forgive what she did at least).

We should probably be able to break through to her by using her guilt rather than her despair. Having Chouko play up Saki's feelings of regret over leaving us behind while also staying similarly out of reach would be a good starting point.

It doesn't seem like we are particularly close with Machiko, so there wouldnt be any strong reason to recruit her, Ayane is Ayane and must suffer maximally before she dies. Kaiya, who should have had our backs as a close friend, didn't even offer the resistance Saki did to leaving us behind and apparently bought into Ayane's bullshit about accepting our sacrifice. I think she is the 2nd biggest offender of betraying us and is unsuitable for recruitment.

That leaves us with a 3 vs 3 setup which allows us to maximize our chances of winning while taking sweet, suffering based revenge on as many as possible.
>>
>>2638492
>Being a better leader than Ayane...
I don't think that is a possible choice of action unless someone at least tries to reconcile with us with at least some form of success (maybe Saki, with a hard ass roll for success).
Kaiya should obviously suffer for her "friend" charade just short of what waits for Ayane. Machiko is left with all the collateral, not being much more than Chouko, getting thrown into the shadows, tainted or cursed, made into another minion or crawling away with a few limbs lost all seem like what could be her fate.
>>
>>2638530
I get where you are coming from. Some sort of outside catalyst (circumstantial or Saki-based) is probably needed to reach the 'I will be a better leader than Ayane' mindset.

I could see a nice character development moment where we are presented with the option to abandon one of our 'tools' and decide that doing so would make us "Just like HER". I'm a big fan of the 'even evil has people and things it cares about and will protect' theme, so that's the direction I am rooting for.
>>
>>2638547
We aren't technically evil, yet. Just violently cranky.
But yeah, only fools drop their tools just because they are "evil", thus they can, should or whatever mindset is used for it. And Chouko feels like having a substantial input in our revenge to just get disposed of the first moment things go bad. Oh no, we should keep her enjoying the struggle of facing what she had vs what she is now (will be).
>>
So when do we git gud at Darkness and make the Berserker armor so we can fully become Magical Girl Guts
>>
>>2638564
We're absolutely evil we're in pact with Evil.
>>
>>2638492
The best revenge is turning someone into your slave. After all, then you can rub their faces into things.
