A little Prelude. I haven't been on this quest board... well, fuck, really since before it even existed. I used to hang out on the /tg/ board a lot for the quests, but have kinda let my participation die off in recent years yada yada. Anyway, here's the quest I've decided to run.

Mass Quest

Let's get this started simply. First off, the starter.

Darkness. Is that all there is? You can feel yourself, are dimly aware of yourself, but you cannot see nor hear anything. Your senses do not extend beyond your own existence. What are you? Where are you? Questions you have no answer to. You can feel rudimentary thoughts forming, but they are aimless. Directionless. There is only one force that seems to be winning out in the chaos of your mind, if it can be called a mind. Hunger. An insatiable wellspring of feverish desire that courses through whatever odd body it is that you have.

Then you sense it. Movement of some sort. What is that? Where is that? It's getting closer. Almost within reach. You feel it now. Sniffling at your side, and then you feel it.

Pain.

A new sense to rival the hunger. It's bitten into you, but it has not ended you. You grab it, pull it into you, make it a part of you. A final squeal that you are unable to hear in the moment signals the end of the poor rodent's life, and the beginning of yours. Slowly the world starts to come into focus. You can hear the air around you, see a blurred mosaic of color form the unfamiliar landscape.

Where shall we start?

>City (High mass, high risk of exposure)

>Town (Moderate Mass, Moderate risk)

>Wilderness (Low mass, low risk of exposure)

Welcome to mass quest. Here are a few vital stats to start us off, most of which probably won't matter for a bit, but I guess it's possible for you to fuck up early game and die right off the bat.

5/5 mass

Rudimentary vision (Shapes and colors, but poor detail)

After taking some time to digest your meal, you find yourself with new appendages to help you on your way. Small legs sprout on your underside, or what you presume to be your underside, as you now have legs there, and you are able to move about. You've also sprouted a small leathery tail, but despite it's texture, you realize you still have the same control over it as you do any of your other limbs. Your flesh is still roughly amorphous, but you know have the knowledge required to form biological constructs such as limbs and rudimentary eyes. Things are dark around you. Lots of industrial sounds ring throughout the air. The sound of engines roaring and the clanging of metal informs you that there is activity near by.

You creep along the ground, avoiding the massive hulking forms of some of the creatures you see along the way. For the most part, they take little notice of your scurrying. There are other creatures nearby, smaller, more managable meals that you might be able to digest. Among them, there are feathered bipedal creatures that hobble around the street, picking through debris for their meals. There are other small rodent like creatures such as yourself. You see them darting around near dumpsters and near grates that lead to some place unfamiliar to you below the ground. You also spot one creature, larger than the feathered and rodentlike creatures that are more abundant. It has pointed ears and clawed hands and is feasting on a dead rodent that is similar in size to you. What do you do?

>Feast on the rodents (easy DC) 25
>Catch a bird (Moderate DC 45)

Priority goes to unique IDs, but if we don't have a lot of players active I don't mind letting people do rerolls.

For instance, if we have players A B C D
A rolls
B rolls
A rolls
C rolls

I'll discount A's second roll in favor of C's roll. This will include crits, so be aware if you're rolling multiple times that your crit may be discounted if some fuckup rolls and takes your slot.

85, success

Seeing a small collection of the feathered creatures nearby, your hunger calls out for you to consume. You creep up on them, skittering slowly towards the debris they seem to be picking at. You manage to get into the debris with ease, navigating the trash and rancid foodstuffs. Though they were initially scared off by your approach, you lay in wait. Sure enough, they flock back to the trash once more, the promise of food too alluring for them to pass up. You are hungry, but you smell opportunity. You wait, and wait. Soon the moment hits. Two of the birds approach in tandem, and you strike out, grabbing both of them in either of your front limbs.

This is your first time seeing yourself consume another creature. You watch as the flesh ripples out from your arm, slowly swallowing the birds whole. The rest of the flock erupts in a paniced burst of wings and squawking, but the two you've ensared are going nowhere. You slink back into the trash heap, slowly dragging the two birds with you as you slowly envelop them whole. After you feast, you can feel yourself going dormant. You rest, as you digest your meal.

While you rest, you can feel the new mass you've gained assimilating into your being. Slowly you come to understand what it is to fly. You gain a natural understanding of aerodynamics, lift, wind, and many other abilities that your avian meals would have understood instinctually. While this information is useless to you know, it may come in handy in the future. As the meal digests, you realize that your form is ripe for a change. You may decide exactly what form that change takes based on the anatomy of your new feast.

>Vision - Gain the ability to see with more detail, your eyes gaining millions of years of evolutionary progress in the matter of hours

>Feathers - While they won't help you fly right away, this is the first stepping stone. They also provide warmth and some minor damage mitigation, should that be something you need.

>Hollow bones - Why would you want this at this point in your growth? Who knows, but surely there's some reason it's being offered right?

nice, with vision we can start setting ambushes
>>
Darkness takes you in the trash heap as you digest your latest meal. As you do so you feel the anatomy of the birds assimilating into your being. You draw from it it's power of sight, your enhanced vision compounds with the mamallian eyes you're absorbed from the skittering rodent earlier, and becomes something more than either of it's individual parts. You now have moderate vision, and are able to see detail.

As you rouse fully, you can see the trash heap has transformed as well. Biomass has seeped out of your body, infesting the trash heap. The birds and rats no longer approach this pile, sensing something foul about it. Wiry strings of writhing flesh coat the interior of the heap where you had slumbered, and you feel more at ease here. Connected to the rest of the heap. As you move through the heap towards the outside once more, you can feel your movements two-fold. Both in the first person perspective, and in another sense, as information fed to you remotely.

In addition to the extra mass, you are now a little more intelligent, having absorbed another creature allows you to think. You occasionally have lucid thoughts that peak out through the muddled soup of madness. As you emerge from your pile into the cool night air, you realize you have gained quite a bit of size. You now stand roughly three times the size of the rodents... the rats, the new, more specific word forms in your mind to describe the first creature you consumed.

Not only that, but you realize your second quarry was a pigeon, and as you glance around the mostly deserted streets of the industrial sector, you realize you can put words to many things you hadn't even noticed before. Street lights, apartment complexes, cars and other such vehicles that occasionally pass by in the street beyond your small alley.

Beyond that, your strong urge for hunger is refined. You are hungry, but you realize you hunger for more. You realize you have a proper enough understanding of what makes a bird and a rat tick. You think you can control them, if you can manage to infest them. Something useful perhaps.

The industrial sounds from earlier have quieted, leaving you in a mostly abandoned sector of city. This is good, you are now intelligent enough to know the hulking creatures you saw earlier in the day are humans, and you know that if they should see you, it could be very bad for you.

Vivid images of a medical facility of some sort fly through your primitive mind. You are unsure of what to make of them, but you know they are a warning of some sort that your dim intellect is trying to warn you of.

You'll need to be cautious if you want to remain undectected, especially as you grow.

>Find a better lair

You creep up on the sleeping man. The strong scent of what you would soon recognize as alcohol hitting you like a wall. This man is passed out, and it doesn't look like hes going anywhere anytime soon.

Still. You have your mind set up and you intend to go through with it. You begin to stretch your body out to engulf him, when you realize you are not actually large enough to consume this man in the same way as you did the smaller creatures.

Oh well, you'll just have to be a little more... creative.

You begin to creep towards his mouth, your tendril like arms opening it wide. As you do so, his eyes open in a panic, but it is too late, you are already on your way inside. As you pass the threshold of his throat, you feel the dangling sack of flesh in the back of his throat slap against the top of you and grab on, perceiving it as a possible attack. This results in him quickly voiding his stomach, vomiting all over the place. You manage to keep your hold though, and already your body begins to disperse, coating the interior of his mouth, entering his lungs, and nasal cavity, and stomach. The man starts to panic, and tries to stumble away, clawing at his throat. He collapses, as your tendrils begin to probe into his body further.

He's clawing at his throat, causing quite the commotion. However, to the best of your knowledge the street was pretty barren. There weren't many people visible to you, and they were all collected pretty far away from the drunk near the front of a bar.

How do you proceed?

>Continue absorbing him like this

Gonna take a break for a while. Gonna run to the store and pick up some medicine. Tired of hacking up brown phlegm. Hopefully a bit of vicks will save my lungs.
>>
>>2629742
Oh just you wait until I pass out and can play with resembling sanity!

Glad to see you did your quest!
>>
so what do we do? drag him somewhere isolated doesn't make that much sense, the street is empty.

We are weak, if we try and live inside of him we could slowly take control of him or just slowly feed off of him until we switch another host
>>
>>2629777
I'm back, and it doesn't look like you guys really settled on much. Last call either

>Live inside of him like a parasite
or
>Try to move him somewhere else

If there isn't some resolution in like, let's say 15 minutes, I'll go ahead and just continue with the continue absorbing him like this option, without any of the modifiers.
>>
You decide to stay here. Afterall, the man is clearly having no luck getting you free from his throat, and you are likewise disinterested in letting go of your kill. This is a big meal though, and it will take you quite some time to properly digest it. Even so, in for a penny in for a pound. You get to work. After he starts struggling and grasping at his throat, he falls into unconsciousness. You are able to feel his heart as it slowly falls to an irregular beat, until ceasing function entirely.

And so you begin. You consume him from the inside out. While your initial mass was not enough to engulf this man, as you convert his flesh into your own, you slowly start to grow. You spread through his body by many means. From his stomach you press into his intestines and further down the digestive tract. From his lungs you enter his blood stream, and begin slowly disolving his cardiovascular system bit by bit.

The most interesting point of order for you though, is his brain. As you consume the fleshy sack inside of his head, you find yourself growing mentally much stronger. You feel your body, really feel it, with much more accuracy. You assimilate his mind into your own, and it immediately begins to overpower the rodent and avian brans you've accumulated thus far. It feels as if an additional voice is now present in your mind, trying to wrest control from you. However, it is panic stricken, and completely confused, so you are managed to keep it at bay for now. After struggling with it's mind, you find yourself drifting off into darkness as your body begins to process and digest its more recent meal.

When you finally awaken, the man's body is no more. You find yourself on the interior of some sort of bag. Before doing anything else though, you must decide what was the most vital trait for you to absorb from this recent kill.

Intelligence wins, writing up now.
>>
You feel the spark of intelligence reinvigorating your half formed mind. You are now capable of basic strategy, and can understand the danger present in situations that your more animalistic nature would not have recognized. You have grown considerably bigger this time, having consumed a meal far larger than any you had known before. Your basic driving force of hunger is now kept in check by a slightly more than animal intelligence, and you can choose to act in more subtle ways if that is the way you wish to conduct yourself. You try to figure out once again where you are, when you realize where you must be. You consumed a man, killing him before absorbing him slowly. You must be inside of a body bag. You somehow know to search for a zipper, and soon one of your fleshy appendages finds it, slowly undoing the zipper. As you leave the bag, you note that the interior of the bag is covered in the same fleshy film that had overtaken the refuse pile after consuming the birds. This one is notably thicker, and the connection you feel to it is much stronger. Perhaps that is an effect of your increased intelligence, or perhaps it's because of all the additional mass you've consumed this time. Either way, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. You note that you are sealed into the tube, but the closing mechanism is on your side of the porthole, and you are not intelligent enough to understand how to work the simple machine.

Peering out, you can see that there is nobody in the room currently, but you do not know how long that may last. What do you do?

You decide that there is no immediate reason to leave this room. After a short while fiddling with the lock, you find yourself pushing out of the tube-like enclosure you'd been in. You realize belatedly that the temperature in the air around you is pleasant compared to the chilly refrigerated tube you had just been in. As you enter into the room you notice a few different things, you increased intelligence allows you to understand what you are seeing with clarity that was unavailble to you. You spot a computer nearby, seemingly inactive, but you recognize it for what it is. You also notice that the wall where you'd emerged from has eight other small portholes on the wall. You also notice a clock on the wall, that informs you of the current time, 7:55. You are unsure as to whether or not that's AM or PM, but based on the fact that it was evening when you first began consuming the drunk, coupled with the fact that your periods of digestion seemed to account for large chunks of the day, you realize it's likely now the following morning.

You realize that you'll have to be more careful going forward. If you're going to pass out each time you eat, you'll want to find some place safe to digest your meals from now on. Otherwise, who knows what could happen. You catch a glimpse of yourself in the glass of the door leading out of here, and realize you have a more immediate problem. While nobody is here currently, you look unlike anything else you've seen so far. You are a mass of rippling and flowing flesh. Your skin seems to be in constant movement, flowing almost like a sludge towards the ground, but receding back into your core near what pass for your feet. You are hardly inconspicuous, and if you should be discovered in the open right now it may lead to some pretty unfortunate consequences.

After finishing your appraisal of the room, you take a minute to plot out your next course of action. The clock has now reached 7:57.

You go over to the door you'd crawled out from, and begin withdrawing the bag your 'body' had been stored in. The interior of the bag was still coated in that fleshy bio-organic film. Much like the trash heap, you can feel some sort of connection to the substance. As you slide it out of the tube, you can feel the movement from it's perspective. You try to reassimilate it into your body, but it doesn't seem to work. Whatever it is, it seems to be made of a different type of fleshy compound than you are. Still, you feel invigorated by your proximity to the film like coating. You sit it on the small table in the center of the room, deciding to investigate it further once you've looked through the computer. As you boot it up however, you realize that you don't have a password or username. You scan the dozens of disorganized papers on the desk in front of you, until you finally find one with a username, and about a dozen sloppily scrawled series of eight digit numbers. You try a few, before realizing the number at the bottom of the list is most likely the current password. You go to key in that password, but are interrupted by the sound of voices in the hall outside. Your eyes glance up at the clock, and you realize it's now 8:01. The voices have paused outside of the door, making idle conversation, how do you react?

Saved the day, good job anon, writing up now. Since it was so high, I'll even give you guys a little bit of extra wiggle room in the next post, opening up a few possible options for ya.
>>
Fearing discovery, you scramble up the walls in a hurry. Realizing you'd left the body bag on the operation table, you reached a hand down in an attempt to swipe it up. To your surprise, your arm extends easily, stretching to close the gap between you and the bag you'd left below. You pull it up to the cieling with you just in time, as the door creaks open and the lab technician enters the room. He looks mildly surprised to find the computer on and the username entered. "Incorrect password?" He asks into the air, as you realize your failed password attempts are still visible on the screen. He shifts some papers around on the excessively messy desk, before uncovering and picking up a phone and hitting a few buttons. "Hello, security? Hey, can you guys check through the camera feeds from last night? I think someone may have broken into my lab and tried to get onto my computer." He waited for a few moments, listening to the voice on the other line before saying "Thanks, I'll give them a call." He pressed the button down on the reciever, before hitting a few more buttons. "Hey, can you guys come check out my computer? I just want to make sure it hasn't been tampered with. I think there was a minor security breach and I've been instructed to have you guys come check on my computer. Thanks." After a few more moments of some muffled talking on the other side of the line, he once again repeated "Thanks," before hanging up and exiting the lab. He left the door slightly ajar.

You can feel a slight breeze coming from a previously unnoticed air vent near to where you're hanging. It might be big enough to transport the bag through, or perhaps store it in there until you can properly deal with your fleshy biproduct. You could also continue investigating the room, try the drain, or escape through the door. How will you proceed?

Vent escape wins. Writing up now.
>>
You drag yourself over to the vents. You realize you can undo the covering, but it would be difficult to redo it. Still, at this point you'll prioritize escape over covering your tracks. They already know you've been here, and if they had bothered to look up at the vents when the lab tech was in the room the first time, they would have spotted you easily, so you feel like this should be a reasonably safe thing to leave behind. You pull with you the body bag that had housed your form while you digested your meal, not wanting to leave unnecessary proof of your existence in your wake.

You navigate the vents for a while, occasionally hearing the odd tidbit of information but never hearing anything too useful or relevant to your situation. At one point you must pass by a breakroom, as you can hear the droning voice of a local news anchor. Unwilling to stop here, you continue mapping out the vents, until finally an exhaust vent leads you to the outside world. You see below a dingy alley, an offshoot of a nearby busy street. What do you do?

i think i found our form if we decide to live in a alleyway
>>
With an escape route in mind, you make your way back to where you heard the television playing. You come in at the end of one segment, and peek through the grates in the airvent to see what appears to be a break room of some sort where a few people have congregated.

"-The most recent in a string of mysterious disappearences lately. The friends and family of Mister Carver have posted a ten-thousand dollar reward for any information that leads to his discovery. Mr. Carver is one of thirteen people who have disappeared in the last year, police suspect a serial killer is on the loose somewhere in the industrial sector of the city. All of the missing persons are men in their mid twenties to late thirties. If you live in the industrial sector, make sure you are staying safe, and travel with a group when traveling at night."

"Ugh, what is that god awful smell?" One of the inhabitants of the break room below asks, their nose wrinkling as they take a seat on the couch, grabbing the news. "Enough of that garbage, let's watch something less depressing. We work with stiffs all day anyway, we don't need to think about that on our break." As she said that, she flipped through the channels until finding some sort of action drama cartoon featuring a group of color coated super heroes who were squaring off against a villain dressed in black with a rippling dark cape.

What about this?
>>
>>2631929
Not the QM, but it's best of 3, not best of 4.
>>
>>2631945
Exactly correct.

You hear the complaints about the smell, and suddenly realize that there may be more than one way to identify your presence. You perhaps hadn't noticed because you are the source, or perhaps because your own sense of smell is highly underdeveloped, but it stands to reason the woman below was talking about you. Maybe this is something you can fix. Maybe...

You delve deeper into your mind, trying to understand the nature of your existence. Vaguely, far away, you can tenuously sense the trash heap where you first consumed your pigeons. Nearer, you can sense the body bag you'd left near the entrance to the alley. Inside of you, you understood something. Innately, you are connected to these fleshy outlayers. They are a part of you, and while not directly under your control, they can feed you information if you know to look for them. You continue trying to reduce your smell, your body shifting and molding into different shapes. Your goopy exterior becomes smooth and your rippling flesh becomes still. You realize that with effort, you are able to control your own consistency. Not just that, but you can control the consistency of the matter that is not connected to you as well, such as that in the bag. You're not entirely sure how useful it is, but it's good to know more of what you can do. Perhaps it would be wise to spend more time focusing on self discovery in the future.

For now though, you have a building to explore. As you creep through the air vents, you find the building is laid out in sections. There is the office section, where a moderate amount of people stay, all focusing on their computer screens and doing busy work. There is the lab sector, where you originally came from, which is littered with small labs like the one you escaped from, as well as a larger main lab. It's hard to get a read on what's going on in the room, as there are constantly people working and present in this section as well. Then you have the guts of the building. Most of the piping and ventilation in the building seem to lead here. You can tell there's a lot of space here, as you have to traverse a long stretch of outlet-less ventilation before finally finding a boiler room where you could escape into the surrounding area. Finally, there seems to be some residential housing above the lab. You find this out accident, while following the ventilation shafts as far as you can upward, you come across a crack in the ducts, which reveals an industrial shaft filled with other ventilation ducts and piping systems that aren't connected to your current shaft. You can hear the sound of children laughing, couples arguing, and other domestic sounds ringing out through the narrow passage. You could explore that, or continue following the pathway upwards where it seems to let out on the rooftop. Based on the amount of upward travel required, you estimate the lab is three floors of the roughly seven story tall building.

Mass is an indicator of your total size. It includes your main body's mass, as well as the bodies of any minions you acquire (if you ever start infesting stuff instead of just absorbing stuff)

It is also an indicator of your bodily health, and a resource to be spent on creating new minions once you establish a lair and start worrying about stuff like that.

Seething through the vents, having decided on a course of action, you find yourself once more headed down. Deeper into the depths of the building. You work your way into the boiler room, which is still thankfully devoid of any and all people. As you flood out of the ventilation shafts, you land with a sickening plop on the floor below. Slowly, your amorphous body begins to reform itself, taking on a vagely man-like shape as you reform yourself. Not that it matters, as soon as you begin moving again, you are on the hunt. You peek out into the hall, finding it empty as well. It seems these dismal inner workings of this building are sparsely populated. The floors are dusty and dirty, and the walls are browning with age, never being properly cleaned or cared for like the working spaces and residential areas above.

As you traverse the hall, you have to quickly duck into a side room as you hear movement ahead. A pair of humans pass you by, but you realize that you are not alone in the room. It seems to be a small storage closet. An older man with a stout beer belly and a poorly kempt grey beard growing from his balding head. He stares at you, in a state of disbelief and stunned horror.

You act quickly. As you turn to strike him, your arm extends, pouring against his fleshy form like a torrent of meaty slime. Your first strike is lucky, and your form begins pouring into his mouth immediately, silencing any screams he may have attempted to let out once he'd gotten past his horror stricken state.

You continue to pour into him, as you try to infest him, you realize that even though your intelligence has been boosted since the last time you preyed on a human, your knowledge of what makes them tick, and how to overtake one is limited. Try as you might, you are unable to sway him to your cause.

Before long, the man is dead in your grasp, having choked on your form as you attempted to forcibly bend his mind to your will. However, in the process you feel like you've come to better understand what doesn't work at least, and feel as if you'll have better luck should you try this again in the future.

That begs the question though, what shall you do with this man?

>Leave him - We need to establish a safe place to digest our meals before we eat anything else so notable, and we don't know any sufficiently safe spaces in this area to sequester ourselves in

>Head after the two that passed you by - You're much stronger now, a few unarmed humans may not be too terribly dangerous to you anymore. Kill the lot, and sort them out later once you've got some peace and quiet to think about it

You begin consuming your most recent kill. In retrospect, perhaps the supply closet was not the best place to do so. You're about halfway through your hibernal period before you are discovered by a worker who lets out a blood curdling scream, well, if you had blood that is. You're unsure of how much time has passed, but you haven't yet fully digested your meal. As you readjust yourself, the remnants of the older janitor that you'd been consuming falls out of your body with a wet sickening thud onto the ground. His skin has been entirely eroded, leaving him a mass of bloody muscular tissue and odd white bones. One of his eyes remains in it's socket, but without eyelids it stares lifelessly at his former coworker. This horrifying visage leaves his companion screaming again as he starts to run away. The floor around you has already started to convert into that creeping structure that seems to always be produced as a biproduct of your feasting, but there's little to be done about that now.

You don't have any time to waste. What will you do?

You leave your kill behind, chasing your runner as he sprints through the halls you had been traversing several hours before. You catch him quickly, stretching one long tendril of your form out to trip him, however as you advance upon his screaming form, doors begin to open in the hall. You hear a loud declaration of "HOLY SHIT! HANK!" Before a heavy wrench comes flying at your form. You bat it away easily using the tendril you'd pinned the man down with. Attempting to seize the moment, Hank tries to scrabble away from you, however you are on him still, and and whoever it was that witnessed what you were doing is now fleeing up the stairs on the far end of the hall.

You quickly drag Hank into the same room your previous victim now lays dead within. As you do so, the organic material (which I really should find a fucking consistent name for, any suggestions?) seems to be reaching out to the two of you. Interstingly, it has also latched onto the abandoned corpse of your prior victim. You envelop him easily in your now swolen form, leaving only his face to stare at the horror that is your unholy visage. You twist your form to resemble a face, intent on further traumatizing the man with awful threats. However, as you try to speak, nothing but rasping air escapes. It seems you do not yet have this ability.

So, you have Hank in your grasp, having lost the opportunity to chase after the person who fled. What do you do?

You slam hank down onto the fleshy spawn below. You hear the sickening crunch of bone as he lets out a pained squeal. Already the fleshy spawn seems to be wrapping small tendrils around the unfortunate man, anchoring his broken writhing form to the floor.

You leave the hallway behind and retreat back into the boiler room where you'd initially entered this floor. In a mad rush your pour through the vents, finding your way immediately back to the alleyway exhaust where you'd left your bag of goo. Part of your mind can feel the goop you've left behind converting the man's mass into more of itself, as it slowly grows and spreads along the floor of the room.

You burst from the vents with the bag in tow, erupting in a meaty flood into the alley. The sun is high in the sky, but you still find the cover of shadows here in the dark dank alleyway.

Your heart, if you had one, would be racing now. You know that on some level you've been discovered, but haven't the means to know what exactly that means just yet. You survey your surroundings, seeing a small grate that seems to be intended for water drainage. Above you the vent's grate hangs loosely, attached to the vent you'd exploded from by a single bolt.

You are alone in the alley, with the exception of some pigeons who don't seem to be paying you any mind. There are dumptsters here as well, which may serve as a good temporary hiding spot.

What do you do?

>Wait - Let's find a safe spot to observe the buildings. See what sort of response our fun evokes

>Into the water drainage system - Fuck the above ground for now. Time to go underground and finally establish something resembling safety

>Infest birds - Should be easy enough, and might be useful to have a few eyes in the skies

>Focus on the Flesh Spawn you'd left behind - Work to better understand this weird stuff you secrete every time you eat

The flesh spawn should buy us some time, we can enter the sewer after we learn about our flesh spawn.

I'll wait a while for some other people to show up, but if I've got no new responses in like an hour I'll just go with this.

>Wait, find a safe spot to hide.
Can we establish mental link/control with our flesh spawn?
>>
>>2634324
A mental link has been established already, if you wanna spend some time trying to explore that link you're more than welcome to do so. The last time you did so you learned you can manipulate it's consistency a bit, but you haven't spent a lot of effort actually exploring what you are and what you can do. Basically you've been jumping from kill to kill running off of animal instinct.

Seems like hide and check out the mental link are at the top of the list. Lemme get a roll, best of 3 DC 45

Alright I'm back, apparently with pneumonia. Got a doctor's note dropped off at work and meds to fix my lungs, and I'll start writing up now.
>>
You decide to hide for now, concealing yourself in the nearby dumpster. As you enter, you bring with you the body bag which you conceal beneath the nearby garbage. You flow over the garbage like a sickening ooze, spilling into the dumpster and seething between the cracks until you come to rest at the bottom of the pile, hidden from view. As you come to rest, you try to focus on the Matter you'd left behind, and the prey you had left with it. While you can definitely sense activity, your concentration is quickly broken by the piercing sound of sirens. The infernal noise makes it difficult to concentrate on things outside of your immediate vicinity, as you seem somewhat, on an animalistic level, unable to tune the sound out completely in order to focus on the flesh spawn you'd left behind.

However, you are able to focus on the flesh spawn you'd left in the body bag. In fact, it helps you tune out the sound of the sirens for a little while, until they switch off, which they inevitably do as they arrive outside of the alley one by one, parking in front of the building you'd just escaped.

While manipulating the flesh you have available, you come to understand some of how it works. While you touch it, you can sense it's willingness to share its resources with you. This thing seems to be the biproduct of your feasting, and appears to have something of a will, buried deep within its form. As you focus on it, you slowly learn to harden it. Controlling the minute will within to bend its shape to your desires. It seems a lot of the bone you've consumed has been left with substance, as you're able to harden it's surface much more easily than you can completely solidify your own.

Hardening is not the only thing it can do however. It's softness, it's consistency, it's function all seem to be able to molded. You intuit that many of the internal organs of your prey have also gone into the construction of this biomass. Perhaps you are not smart enough yet, or perhaps the amount of mass in the bag simply isn't sufficient enough to work in a meaningful way.

As you start to mull over the possibilities, you realize that the sirens have stopped and some time has passed. You begin to focus once more on the matter you'd been forced to leave behind, and the victims that had been there as well.

As you do so, you feel a pressence, and it too feels you. It is similar to the will you felt in the body bag, but it is fresher formed. It is weak, but more substantial by an order of magnitude.

You feel a deep, empathic connection between yourself and this weak will. You feel what it feels, and it feels hunger, but not just hunger. There's something more primal than even that gnawing at it's mind.

It feels fear.

Is it afraid of you? Perhaps. As it attempts to lash out at your mind, you bat it's pitiful assault away without even having to think about it.

>cont
>>
>>2635254

The fact that you have such reflexive defenses isn't missed by you, but you immediately counterattack. You crush it easily, but some small, desperate part of it hangs on.

"Wait! Stop please!"

You hear, a desperate wail. This piques your interest. You've not been able to speak with anything since your creation, you've felt neither the need nor the desire, but nothing has tried to speak with you either.

How do you respond?

>Crush this will beneath the force of our own. There is room for exactly one force of will in this mass.

>Hear them out, it could be interesting to have a weak willed lackey

>Warn them of the danger you've left them in. Express no animosity, and instruct them how to escape. Whether you want to kill this thing, or subjugate it, you can do neither if it is defeated by the humans who responded to the calls of distress

>Other (write in)

Feel free to provide a general dialogue tone you'd like to set. I feel like right now, our creature's 'personality' has not had time or room to begin forming. In fact, you've only just recently passed the threshold where urges beyond the strictly primal have begun to affect you.

Your young mind is forming and structuring itself, and while it doesn't seem to be done doing so yet, you are feeling stronger connections to the things around you as a result. With that in mind, I'm going to introduce one of a few hidden stats I've been keeping track of while you've been eating stuff.

Lucidity 8/8
As well as an updated Mass after your recent partial Meal
Mass 175/175

Lucidity is a lump stat which affects the strength of your will, the amount of things you can exert will over at once, and your ability to resist your deeper seated urges in regards to hunger, fear, and any other animistic impulses you may feel during certain parts of the story.
>>
>>2635261
>warn them, express no animosity.
I'm thinking we go for a more detached and pensive tone with our possible lackey.
Let's not burn any bridges, but if it does seem to be more beneficial to leave it as bait that's what we should do, whether through tricking it into danger or just abandoning it.

It was foolish to think you could lash out at me, the one who created you.

What am I? it responds, it's feeble consciousness fearful and confused

Irrelevant. Do you want to live?

Yes! Please spare me! it begs you.

I am not what you should be worried about. If you want to survive do as I say exactly. You give it time to respond, but only silence follows. You take that as submission, and continue. You have spawned in a small closet, leave through the door and go down the hall until you find the boiler room. Proceed into the vents and escape into alley where I await you.

Y-Yes right away! it answers, and immediately sets upon it's task.

The new creature, birthed into the world out of your gorey leftovers, has the vaguest memory circling it's head of a time before it could think, and feel. It had been hungry, so hungry, and then you came. You fed it your leavings, giving it form. And then you brought more. The second treat had something inside of it. Something which gave it a voice. That's the only way it can describe it's existence.

When you reached out, it was scared, unaware of what was happening. You were patient, forgiving. You have given them life and let them keep it. However. It was not yet very bright.

Your instructions were confusing, and you had failed to explain what would be waiting for it outside of the door.

The creature began to seep out of the room, and was instantly met with a hail of gunfire.

Fear.

This creature knew very little other than fear, and what was happening hurt.

It fled, leaking a vile fluid, so dark red as to almost be black. It fled into a nearby room, looking for a vent to crawl into. It, in truth, had no idea what a boiler room was. It had simply been too afraid to ask such a powerful pressence to clarify itself.

It flowed and rippled as it moved, much like you do, but there was something more rigid about it's movements. It didn't seem to flow as easily, or as quickly. It took longer to seep through gaps, but it was sturdy. While it was being badly wounded by the hail of gunfire it was met with each time it entered the hallway in search of a new room to find it's escape. After the second room, it figured out that it was actually a lot easier for it to simply smash the doors down, than to flow past them. It charged through the hallway then, finally finding a room with a vent.

From that point on, it flowed, albeit slowly, through the vents, still leaking the dark red ichor as it did so.

It is some time before the second entity finally makes its way to you. When it finally spills out of the vent with a wet thud, it takes the grate from its last remaining bolt with a resounding clatter.

As you hear your new guests arrival, you immediately spring out of the dumpster to investigate it's appearance. You had been keeping tabs, and could feel all of the damage it had taken, and all the fear it had felt. You approach it confidently. Sure in the knowledge that you can subjugate this creature on a whim.

You made a lot of noise. You say, reaching a tendril out to grab it directly. The street outside is littered with the vehicles that had produced the sirens. As you contact it, the strangest thing happens. It's will, while still present, is immediately stifled. The flow of information is complete, and total. Every sight it saw in it's flight, every thing it thought, and everything it felt, all flow into your mind in the span of a second.

Moreover, you feel a slight boost in your own faculty as your body and the body of the secondary creature merge together. It's mental faculties become your own, and yet they remain sequestered, not truly fusing with whatever center of thought your own body holds. It is a part of you, and yet seperate.

You will worry about this later. For now, you know you must get out of here. The only path still left to you is the water drainage system, so you flee into the underground, without a second look back.

As you do so, you don't think too much of the fact that you are leaking a dark black ichor from your newly appendage.
I know it's kind of a dick move, but the critical fail here isn't going to be visible in this post, and instead, I will be including it in a sort of flashback in a future post.

You begin to traverse the tunnels, trying to form a mental map as you do so. You follow your tunnel down a ways, and it eventually opens up into a much wider canal. Opposite your tunnels joining point is a near identical tunnel stretching on in the opposite direction, presumably connecting to other parts of the city. The water levels are kept standing on either side thanks to an ancient looking sluicework system, seemingly in place to keep the main channel they both seem to be emptying into from flooding beyond it's bounds and overtaking the raised concrete paths along either wall through the main channel.

You decide to follow the main tunnel, and find as you continue down it you see many similar sets of sluice systems and adjoining smaller tunnels. It seems that many of the various drainage systems throughout the city drained into this major vein you were following. Bridges connected the concrete paths which followed the walls to the next segment of pathing. As you progress, occasionally the damaged lump of tissue connected to your form will snap at a rat it spots in the water, or sleeping in the path that are too slow to escape our passing.

At first this behavior annoys you, but it seems to be capable of consuming food without depleting your alertness, so in time you just get used to it, as the wounds it aqcuired do slowly seem to be closing. It's made more easily forgivable by the fact that some of the nutrients it absorbs are transferred to you. You can feel yourself growing minutely with each rat the secondary intelligence snaps up.

Occasionally you pass sections of sluice that seem rusted and abandoned, with newer sections of tunnel nearby which seem to have replaced the function the old derelict tunnels once served.

As you come to the end of the main channel, you find that it leads out into the bay. You can see in the mid day sun a bay, and you can hear the distant sound of ships, but your scope is limited from here, and you cannot see far.

What do you do?

>Explore some of the off shoots, map out more of the tunnels.

>Follow the main channel upstream.

>Into the bay

You spend some time focusing inward. You enter what may be called a meditative state by a human. Focusing on nothing in particular. You feel your self, and you do not search for anything in particular. As your mind blanks, and you begin to understand a few things that you maybe aleady understood instinctively. Having them crystalize into thought is a useful thing however.

You understand that the creature is the flesh spawn animated, and made up of the same sort of material as the flesh spawn, explaining the difference between his body and your own, as well as the separation between itself as a distinct entity and yourself as another entitty. It also explains why it's mass seems to mostly be autonomous and independent of your own, even while attached to you and sharing resources with you.

You come to understand more though. You start to digest the information your new addition gave to you when it became a part of your entity.

As it was shot, it could feel the bullet impacting it's body. Despite it's notably lower intellect, it has experienced first hand the pain of a bullet, and the way its form reacted to such pain.

The peircing trauma of a bullet is in some cases blocked, but a sudden hardening of mass. Other times it rips straight into the mass, sinking into your form until it slows down enough to stop.

In either incident, the pure mass works in a way that leaves it as the recipient of the trauma. It seems to protect other parts of you, which when you realize also realize are separate in a way from your raw mass.

You think back on when you've eaten, and how your mind has come to grow, and you realize something. The larger the intellect of your prey, the larger the bounds in your cognitive functions. You've consumed two humans, a rat, and a bird. Until you'd consumed your first human though, you ran off of stimulus alone. This creature that you've spawned from your Flesh Spawn did not grow into an intelligent force until after being able to ingestthe human you'd killed, but not absorbed. It gained this intelligence immediately, despite not having a long time to consume the human which can take you hours.

This tells you that either this secondary being can consume matter without going into a hibernal state, or it consumed a certain part of the human first, gaining a sudden intelligence.

>cont
>>
>>2637153

You realize that the answer is simple. Your thought structure is very much like a brain that's been dispersed evenly throughout your body. You believe you may be actively consuming brainmatter to recycle into your own system, and it seems to make sense.

When you ate the rat, you gained a basic instinct for movement, and mimicked it's shape at first.

When you ate the bird, your vision improved, and you were better prepared for your new environment.

Manipulating organic structures is second nature to you, because you can take existing organic structures and make them your own.

You better understand how to empower yourself, and this could prove invaluable. The idea enters your mind to track down a variety of creatures in order to absorb new structures into your being.
But enough musing for now. These tunnels are promising in a lot of ways. Rodents abound, providing easy nourishment, and it seems to traverse the city without a high chance of exposing you to the humans. You can move quietly, which is very useful. It would be wise to explore them further, and perhaps set up a base of operations which suits your needs. You decide to visit one of the rare abandoned offshoots you'd seen. As you delve deeper into it however, you find that it is not quite so abandoned as you might have thought.

Not too deep into the tunnel, the chamber opens up into a much larger chamber. A ramshackle construction of old rotting wood seems to be built in the center of the chamber, and a few burly men with firearms strapped over their shoulder stand in the center. They don't seem to notice you yet.

How do you react?

>Nice hideout ya got here... would be a shame if someone ate all your dudes and took it.

>Scum recognize Scum. Maybe they can be intimidated into being allies

>There are easier ways to make allies. Like manufacturing allies. Use members of the hideout to create more creatures like the one currently attached to you

You concentrate very hard on your form. The consistence of how your body is structured. The way in which you are moving. You begin to flow less like a wave, and more like tar. Clinging to the walls and oozing along slowly, not catching the attention of the eye. As you do so, your second intelligence splits off from your form, apparently not being able to manipulate it's mass in the same way that you can. You bid it remain in the darkness, and to dispatch any who would come. It's time with you has seemed to change it some. The simpering voice you heard before seems to fully understand what it is in relation to you. You know it's mind now, and know that it's loyalty is not only absolute, but compulsory. Once it's genetic material linked up with yours again, a bond was formed that cannot easily be broken. Your body has been spread thin, covering a wide berth, and not moving as a solid lump of mass through the darkness. You creep behind the structure, finding small cracks in the shoddily constructed building. Inside, there are three men, in addition to the two outside who were guarding the entry way.

You spend some time within, waiting. You've grown somewhat since the last time you'd consumed a human, and now your total form is far greater than any one human. To make things easier, the three within all sit at a table together. You spend some time allowing your overly spread out form begin to coalesce, gathering on the ceiling above the humans distractedly talking below. You spend a moment to listen, and learn they seem to be talking about some sort of deal or another. They seem to have bags with them, filled with some contraband or another. You ignore this, being interested in only one thing at the moment.

Your body begins to form three long tendrils, slowly snaking down from the ceiling. Inching slowly toward the three targets below. You spend your time watching their eyes. The second you spot one of their eyes widen, horrorstruck, you strike. Enveloping their heads in your grasp. Not a sound was made as you drop wholly to the floor, not even the sound of their snapping necks, as the flesh you've wrapped around their three throats absorbs even that sickening sound. The two at the door do not even see it coming, and quickly join their superiors in their deaths. With all five dispatched, you beckon your minion towards you.

As he arrive, he finds you splitting the skulls of your victims. Confused, but not impertinent, he asks

What are you doing?

I am making you some brother and sisters. You feel no need to explain to him that your idea for this only formed less than an hour ago. His knowledge may be yours, but your knowledge is not his. His mind has almost turned you into a god of sorts. Knowing all, creating life. He has no need to know what you do not know. Like for instance, whether or not this will work.

You begin extracting the five brains, and as you think of how to store them while you consume the five bodies that are left over, you body acts on it's own. Small pockets of your flesh coat the brains, protecting their uniquely structured flesh from the elements.

You will guard me while I rest. It was not a question, nor did you need confimation.

And then you ate, consuming the resources necessary to create more Flesh Spawn so your minions may have life.

And maybe keeping a bit of that mass for yourself, afterall, five people is a lot of people.

How do you want to distribute your resources for the next post.

>Make a bunch of flesh spawn, keep one body on the side for the minions afterwards

>Use all bodies for flesh spawn and increasing our own mass. Lets see how brains interact with flesh spawn without any additional human parts

>Split the brains - (any variation between you, your first minion, and the new minions you want to make)

Let's get 2 brains for us, then 1 brain to our current flesh spawn and the other two to two new flesh spawns. Three bodies for the two new flesh spawns to split, one body for us and the last for our current spawn. That should work out pretty well.

You begin to envelop the bodies you've left in the wake of your slaughter, and get ready to consume them, a process you are beginning to get used to.

You feel yourself growing, adding their mass to your own, and darkness soon takes you.

It is a long rest, and when it is over your landscape is completely changed. Flesh spawn is thick on the ground below you. It has climbed up the flimsy wooden planks that make up the so called walls of this enclosure. The environment is warm, and wet. Pleasant to your senses. You note that the brainpods where you'd left them, though they now seem diminutive. You take a moment to appreciate just how much you've grown. You are now easily triple your previous size after having digested such a large meal. You know that soon you will be using some of that to fashion a new minion, but it does feel nice to be so much bigger.

You use your first minion as a model for the appropriate amount of flesh spawn to use in the sculpting of your new minion, but even so, your final product winds up looking much different. Your firstborn is a creature much like yourself. Able to flow and ooze. Perhaps you've used more flesh spawn than it had been made with, perhaps it is the fact that you've used two brains instead of one or, perhaps it's the small amount of your own mass that you use in place of the human flesh the first minion was able to feast on. Whatever the case, it is hard to say whether this difference in form is superior or inferior. It is simply different.

Bones jut from it's four limbs at the joints of it's disjointed legs. It is almost formed, with one ball of mass in the center of the four spiked legs. One large eye peeks out from the middle of its lumpy central structure. You can sense a weak will in it, one that is slightly stronger than your first creation's will. Feeling a small amount of pity, you cast the firstborn a stray brain pod. After consuming it, it seems to get a similar boost to it's strength of will.

Their will, however, still pales in comparison to your own. Just to be safe, you ingest the remaining brain pods, and add them to your own form.

Immediately, you can feel your connection to your creatures, your flesh spawn, and your own self.
>cont
>>
>>2640499

As the brainpods enter your system, your body quickly breaks them down and redistributes the matter. This is a small enough meal that you aren't forced into a hibernal state like usual, and you find yourself able to actively track the resources as they undergo a change. Breaking down into their base parts, and then connecting themselves to your existing network. Then the slow disperal throughout your form, which allows an even distribution of thinking matter at all portions of your body. You can sense your external control growing, reflex quickening, and total capacity for thought improving. You come to understand that the more mass you host in your immediate body, the more difficult it is for you to control your body in precise ways without an appropriate amount of brain matter.

While you spend time reflecting on this, you notice your first minion approach the flesh spawn, and absorb some of the spongy material, drawing it into it's own form. It grows slightly, and it begins to grow some small plates on it's back.

You could do many things right now. You have no particular sense of urgency, and your hunger has freshly been sated.

You spend some time focusing on the molding of some of the remaining flesh spawn. You begin to shape it into various forms, but as you work you can't seem to have much success. You eventually try to start pulling at the miniscule will the spawn itself possesses, and concentrating nodes of it into tiny lumps you've plucked free. While they do seem to be more wriggly and active than the spawn below, they return to the rest of the spawn the second they're nearby. When you take these wriggly bulbs far away from the Flesh Spawn, they simply wriggle uselessly, but stop attempting to return to the Flesh Spawn from where they were made. You're not sure what to do with that information, or even if it's relevant to what you're trying to do, but you do feel like you're on the cusp of something interesting nonetheless.

You focus deeply on yourself. You have killed or consumed nearly a dozen men by this point in your life. As you continue to prey on humans, your innate knowledge of human structure has grown. You can feel the material you've built up within you. Your knowledge has rapidly improved. You decide to spend some time thinking about one of the many facets you've absorbed in particular.

>Heart - Gain minor damage regeneration

>Bone - generate plates of bone to protect the softer mass beneath

>Bone - spikes - rapidly harden spires of mass into spear length spikes of bone. Can be ejected from or connected to the body at will.

Rolled 90 (1d100)

The way the blood flows through the body. Humankinds natural regenerative state. Blood collects at the edges of open wounds, clotting to slow the leak, and then hardening to protect the wound. Over time it even changest it's own state of matter to become new skin. It's a truly fascinating process, and one that you can learn from. The knowledge of the process itself gives you a sort of reflexive idea of how to close your own wounds through matter manipulation. You have not personally experienced what it is to be shot, but you have your first minion's experience in your mind as fresh as if it'd happened to you.

You can tell that in many ways, fresh knowledge is power. The more you learn, the stronger you become. You think, perhaps at some point, it'd be nice to learn even more about other organic processes, to see if you could mimic them as well.

So then, let's go get some.

You gather together your two minions, and connect them to your being as you surge through the canal tunnels.

This is your first time interfacing with the new minion. He has been quiet so far, and they still seem eerily quiet. Much like was the case with the first minion, you can sense his thoughts and know his loyalty to be absolute at this point. However, his thoughts are strangely blank. Almost mechanical. You can tell there is more there, puzzling away at something under the surface, but it is as if there is something more within there that is not yet aware of itself. It seems benign, but you make a note of the strange sensation in your mind to check in on later.

While exploring, you keep your eyes peeled for any sign of humans down here. You find a few utility closets along the way, but never actually encounter humans. Perhaps it is more rare for them to be down here. Or perhaps you're simply not in an area they frequent. Your first minion snaps up several rats, after a while, it snaps up something slightly different. You recognize the creature as a frog. With webbed feet for navigating the water and the ability to breathe through it's skin. An interesting creature. You have never navigated water before, but observing the structure of this creature gives you an idea of how you might do so effectively. Your idle thoughts about the differences between different creatures pass the time until you come to the main channel once again.

Where would you like to explore?

>Slip out into the bay, let's go for a swim

>I know it's kind of a dick move, but the critical fail here isn't going to be visible in this post, and instead, I will be including it in a sort of flashback in a future post.

>Flashback

Earlier in the day, moments before you and your new minion flee into the water drainage system, a young beat cop recently jumped up to squaddie had been one of those to respond to the call for strange incident call as well as about eight other officers. He and his partner had been tasked with remaining at the main entrance to the building to restrict movement in and out of the building until things were cleaned up.

This young man had been approaching the entrance to the alleyway, attracted to the sound of the clattering grate crashing into the concrete below, and the sick wet thud that had sounded at nearly the same time. He was just peeking into the alley, seeing the wriggling flowing mass as it disappeared into the drain.

There was only a moment to process what he'd just seen when a hand clasped onto his shoulder.

He spun to find himself face to face with a man in a brown coat and strange sunglasses which had faint green circles glowing near the center of each lens. There isn't really much else to note about the agent. His strange coat which covers everything from his neck down to his feet. He also wore a pair of black gloves and black boots.

"S-Sir step back, this is a crime scene!"

The rookie cop said with authority, which seemed to amuse the stranger in the coat.

"You should get the call any second now."

Almost as if on cue, the sound of the dispatcher's voice came over the radio. "All units stand down. This one's been taken off our hands. There should be a team arriving on the scene now to debrief you.

The agent walks into the alley, eyes scanning the scene with machinelike precision. He spots the black ichor left behind by your bleeding companion, and scoops up a sample of it on a thin glass slide. He's wordless in his method, a method the rookie is only able to observe for a moment before another shoulder finds its way onto his shoulder.

The man he's faced with this time is a much more standard looking federal agent, and corrales the rookie over with the task force all of whom were ghostly pale and being kept separated from the units who'd been guarding the entry points of the building.

The rookie seems to be a similar shade of white, the only of those left guarding doors and other halls who seems to know just how wrong this situation actually was.

>End Flashback

"Ahh... There you are. You've been a naughty experiment haven't you?"

>Almost as if on cue, the sound of the dispatcher's voice came over the radio. "All units stand down. This one's been taken off our hands. There should be a team arriving on the scene now to debrief you.

You had been on your way to go swimming in the bay. Maybe search for some new and intersting things to eat. Who knows. Either way, your lieusurely dip in the bay has been suddenly halted by this man, standing near the grate that leads into the bay.

"And my, how big you've grown." You are glad you've brought your mininos with you, both of which currently discernable entities clinging to your form as you've swelled through the tunnels. The casual way he regards you is probably more unsettling even than the two green circles focused on your form in the dark tunnels.

"You've been growing in ways we've never seen. Jude you seeing this shit? I don't think I've ever seen one look like this before. How long ago did you say it went missing?"

He listens to a feminine sounding voice that starts buzzing in response, but you fail to pick up the words. Just barely detecting their presence in the otherwise still tunnels.

You both stand apart, neither side taking immediate or direct action. You could change that.

This strange man in a strange brown coat stands between you and the bay entrance. What do you do?

>Who cares, just another lump of mass to assimilate

Alright, 61, 98.

You are pretty convincing in your dumb act and narrowly avoid a pretty nasty surprise. Writing up now.
>>
You are eying this man down, and listen to him make banal observations about you. It is wholly unnerving, the way that he is acting. But he clearly doesn't have all of the answers. He can be taken unaware.

You know that to trick this man's senses, you will have to give your animalistic side a little more sway. You willingly let the animal rage overtake you, just for a moment, and unleash a bestial roar that shakes through the waterworks.

You rush at the man, as you do your first minion uses it's hardened plates to bat away some unknown canister suddenly being thrown out by the man. It splashes harmlessly into the water, but you can feel slight irritation coming from the minion. You are about to swing your second spiked minion at this human when a second cannister is shot in your direction once more. You're about to swing your first minion to block it, but something doesn't feel quiet right. Instead, you shift your form around the canister, opening up a hole in your form which allows the cannister to pass through you harmlessly. Behind you, it splatters into a grey ooze on the ground. A grey ooze which immediately begins inching towards you. It is a slow progression, easily outmaneuvered if there weren't an oponnent blocking your way. It seems to move in much the same way that you do, but just much slower.

As your attention is grabbed by the ooze, you decide to let your minions loose. Have a look at what the pair can do on their own, and make sure their role is firmly embedded in their minds. They meant to protect us, not the other way around. Their lives can be thrown away on a whim, it is not their place to ask why. Only to do.

As they split from your form into their own individual beings they quickly approach what could be certain doom.

Your plated pawn makes first contact, oozing towards him until he's only right upon him. He had moved slower than necessary while approaching, and managed to catch him with a surprise burst of speed, wildly slamming into his hip and knocking him off balance.

The spiderlike spiked creature tries to capitalize on that opening, but the fighter is ready for it. He unleashes a strange fluid-like substance from his jacket sleeve. The fluid catches the spider near where his forward facing left leg joins to the body, and it lets out a pained screech as the goo corrodes his body like an acid, leaving one spiked leg detactched completely from its host's main body, and a sizable portion of the central mass of the minion seems to be damaged as well.

A grey ooze is approaching from behind, and the fighter stands to the front. How do you proceed?

>That grey ooze makes me feel uneasy. Charge straight ahead and help our minions dispatch this browncoat asshole.

While your minions keep the man distracted, you advance on the grey ooze that had crept up on you from behind. It is slowly oozing through the halls, but as soon as you get near it, it starts to speed up in your direction. It starts snapping at you, forming tendrils and moving in a much more active way. You back up, seeing it slow down when you've put a bit of distance between you. In the wake of the goop, you see a faint dusty trail. You also realize that the moving ooze seems somehow thinner than it originally was. Your advanced intelligence allows you to almost immediately understand that it is expending its form by moving, and moreover that it's high burst of activity a short while ago caused it to burn through its stores more quickly. You spend the next few moments ducking in and out of it's range, until it's thinned to the point where you don't think it could do much damage even if it did get a hold of you.

Then you spare a glance back at the fighting behind you. The plated minion successfully blocks another of his canisters into the water, while your spiked minion delivers a devastating blow to his stomach.

As his spike gores him, it pokes through his back. What strikes you as odd, is the man's blood is silver, not red.

It immediately begins eating into your minion's spike, eroding the appendage as if it were a strong corrosive agent.

Fuck this it's time to get out of here. You swoop into the combat yourself, grabbing your two minions and narrowly avoiding the man's gloved hand as it made a grab for you. You make a mad dash through the channels, ducking into a few side shoots, but the man is inhumanly fast.

You manage to trip him up as you enter a tunnel which had collapsed by shifting your form through the rubble.

You can hear the shifting of rubble behind you, and what sounds like further collapsing stone, but the man will have to take the long way through.

How do you proceed?

Like are you going to use your minions as part of your body, have them act independently, and what will each of your three roles be in the combat.

I say we leave the plated minion in the open, and have it act crippled, pretending we left it to die in order to buy time.

They can't shoot canisters at the plated one, so when they move closer we pop out and lure him deeper while the spike minion flanks.
Then either he's impaled or we try to finish him by drowning or something so he doesn't bleed everywhere.

You and your minions split up. You realize that with the short amount of time that you have left, if you are to see everything you'll need to take a risk and share the work. Your spider is looking pretty rough, so you allow him to thoroughly go through the main chamber you'd found yourself in. You and your plated minion work your way deeper into the dark tunnels, until they split off into two.

In the distance, you can feel your spider minion happily chomping away at some sort of rat nest it'd found.

As you delve deeper into your own shaft, the tunnel at some point shifts between modern structures to a more ancient type of construction. No rails nor iron bridges connect. Occasional beams of light come in from the trees.

Something lashes out at you as you pass, and you immediately snap it's neck the moment it's fangs pierce your flesh. You draw the creature inside of your body for future digestation. You investigate the hole from which it sprang, and find yourself squeezing through an incredibly small gap. You slowly ooze through the wall, finally coming into a room featuring a stagnant pool of standing water. It is pretty spacious, and there are near to no manmade structures in this room Some of the water leaks into the hole behind you, but the majority of it's flow is directed down another channel, which you can hear coursing audibly beyond. You do not know how deep this channel runs, and you do not know how long you have to search it. Your debate is cut short when your spider minion confirms that the sounds are getting nearer, and he expects you have only a short while before the hunter breaks through.

You and your plated minion make your way back to the main chamber. Your plated minion's own path was much shallower than your own, but he found a few rats which he quickly surrendered to the injured spike minion. You saw his fourth leg slowly regenerating, and the melted spike on his third leg was slowly reforming. You doubted that he'd be fully healed when the time came to attack, but you knew he'd be better off for your combined gathering efforts.

You instruct your plated minion to be standing ready in front of the pile of rubble. It is to be ready for the enemy the moment it proceeds through the rubble.

Your spider-like minion is instructed to hang nearby from the ceiling. Following us all on the chase we're intent on leading the man through the twisting corridors beyond. You yourself cling to the side of the channel, staying just out of sight and relying on your minions connection to you to understand where the enemy was and how to proceed.
>>
>>2647057

You think you've got a good setup, and prepare yourself for the coming fight.

Then it happens. The rubble clears with explosive fury. Thanks to your relative positionings, only the plated minion is afflicted by the flying wreckage, and even then only where the flying stones found gaps between it's sparse plating. It wasn't terribly injured by any means. Neither you nor your spiked minion were afflicted in the slightest.

The hunter was slow to enter. The gaping wound in it's chest having sealed, but was still visible.

"Where'd your friends go?"

He asked drawing a long probe from his sleeve. "It's no fun if it's only one." As he approaches your plated minion, getting ready to deploy the strange device he'd pulled free, you act. Surging out of the banks of the canal like a flood, knocking the hunter, and his bauble into the wall. The device is smashed immediately on impact, and you begin receding into the depths of the abandoned aquaducts, your spider following silently from the ceiling waiting for its moment to strike, and your plated ally rejoining your form so as not to be left behind.

The hunter is only stunned for a moment, and quicky begins giving chase.

How do you proceed?

>Allow him to get close, trying to provoke him so your spider minion can get a clear shot

>get as far ahead of him as you can, and stage another ambush

>Into the water, try to lose him in the murky underused channel

>Try to knock him into the water

>Overwhelm him with sheer mass, smash him into the wall until he stops twitching, even if it hurts a bit.

>Other (write in)

Feel free to go whatever direction you want with this combat. You don't have to go with the things I've suggested, you know what you're capable of so feel free to play with that a bit.
>>
>>2647059
we should go into the water and swim away into the sea but first we must taste if the water is salty
>>
>>2647059
Let's go into the water and see if he chases us in. If he does then let's get the spider to drop on him and the plated minion to weigh him down, so they can try to stab and drown him while we get to safety.
I'd like to infest him but i'm not sure If that'll work out considering his acid blood and whatever other countermeasures he has in him.
>>
>>2647059
Form two tendrils to bind his hands, and have the plated minion slam into his stomach. Spider follows up with an attack to the back of his neck (break his spine) and you finish him off by forcing his head into the water so you can drown him.

You lead the hunter on a brief chase, making it seem as if it'd be a much longer affair before suddenly stopping just as you let him get within range of you. This surprises him, but only for a moment. However, a moment is all you need. You bring your entire massive form to bear against this man, moving as if you were to swallow him in a wall of your form. However, at the last moment, you shift around him, save for his wrists which you squeeze tightly.

You grip him for a few moments, holding him despite his struggling. As you hold him, some of that silver mass begins trickling from his sleeve, traveling up the coat to assail your grip on him, but it is a choked flow, unable to freely travel from the sleeves while your grip remains. Your form swallows and nullifies what escapes pretty easily. You lose a small amount of mass in the process, but it's a negligable amount, and worth it if it eliminates this surprisingly hard to dispose of pest.

Apparently annoyed with it's attempt to escape through the man's sleeves, the silver fluid begins bubbling up from the coat's neck, flowing down his arm rapidly to reach your grip. However, just as it does, your plated minion finally makes his move. Slamming into the man's lower body, and taking his feet from under him.

The man's legs appear broken and misshapen, bent in several directions, and yet the man makes no sound, save for a frustrated shout.

"This one ain't going well Jude, it's smarter than we thought!" he shouted, the green circles present in his sunglasses darting all over your form and the multi-pronged attack you'd just hit it with. Almost to punctuate the sentence, your spiked minion leaps from the ceiling, however, it misses the hunter's neck, and instead punctures him through the side where his kidney might be.

It would be a fatal blow against most humans, but you'd seen this man take a similar wound in the previous fighting and he'd still had the ability to give chase. You'd had it with this man, and lifted him high into the air. As you did so, you stare him dead in his green circled eyes before dunking him into the water of the canal below.

As you do so, you are met with an overwhelming, though brief, surge of electricity. Powerful enough to knock you back, and cause you to let go of your prey, who slips into the murky water below.

You are reeling, but still conscious and able to pursue. You are just mulling over whether you want to when you see his coat and hat crest the water, obscuring the corpse below, but the obvious form of a body in the water is floating there lifeless. You have won this encounter, but you get the impression that it will not be the last. Whoever sent this man, whoever he was talking to, they are sure to return once more.

We should not be preparing to fight these guys, one agent was fairly tough, and I'm guessing he was their (whatever shadowy organization
that created us) attempt to retrieve us but keep this thing as under wraps as possible. The next time they come for us, which will probably be soon, they will bring way more than just one cybernetic dude, maybe a whole squad. Or at least they should, considering how fast we've grown already.

Which is why I think we should just cut our losses and hide in the ocean for a bit. Its full of organic matter of all shapes and sizes, and it would serve as a nice breather while we grow and figure out where to go from here. But I do agree that we should take a moment and let our little buggers know that they did a good job.
>>
>>2650540
and humans cant go under certain depths without super specialized equipment
>>
>>2650540
I understand where you're coming from, but going out into the ocean seems kind of dangerous as well. I think it would be best to rest, have our minions train in case we're ambushed, and then get the heck out of dodge. It might be a good idea to shed some pounds and create a few new minions or something, but we'll need more brain power to do that properly.
>>
I'll let you guys keep discussing for a bit, seems there's a consensus for cheering on the minions and eat the snake, so I'll make sure to include both of those in the next post.

In regards to the snake, I'll be offering a few choices in the post, but feel free to come up with a snake attribute you like. (i.e. venom, scales, fangs, general body structure for better formed tendrils and grip strength, all that sort of stuff)
>>
>>2650561
I don't see why the ocean would be very dangerous, if we limit ourselves to just eating fish, crustaceans and mollusks, or even bigger things like octopi, sharks, dolphins, maybe a whale eventually, it would be a relatively safe and easy way of getting a lot of mass, and
very diverse genetic material, with low risk of exposure. Hell, we could probably hitch a ride on the underside of a cargo ship to another country if we wanted to. Of course, this is all future stuff if we do decide to move to the ocean. I'm just trying to list some of the possible positives of doing so.
>>
its better we flee they know where we live and our general mass and intellect and that we have minions and any humanoid needs specialized equipment to move or even survive in the depths and from what we have seen the weapon they use against us is like a unspecified liquid mass and the cyborg/robots that run on electricity

we can greatly increase our size by taking in other materials to fill in like with aerogel thats like 99.9999% gas but still super strong but super light we could fill in our structure with stone or minerals for greater strength and we could with outside materials make a outer shell or hide out of plastic if we figure out how to merge and separate plastics

My biggest concern with jumping into the ocean is that we may not even be able to breathe in the water. (Especially our minions)

It's probably a bit harder to create flesh spawn in the ocean, and I have a feeling that no matter where we go those agents will find us. Also normal humans may need special equipment to target us down there, but literal superhuman soldiers might be fine.

Finally when we dunked the man into the water, we were countered by a particularly powerful surge of electricity. Assuming some other agents have electrical powers or gadgets, swimming in water probably isn't the safest option.

That being said, I think going into the ocean will buy us time, but it might be better to try and escape somewhere through land, and perhaps try and figure out a way to make it look as though we're heading out to the ocean (or perhaps vice versa)

The inorganic material armor is solid though, and I don't see much of a reason to be against that. (Though maybe we should digest some hermit crabs or buff our speed first)
>>
Okay so we're going to chat up the minions, eat the snake, pack up the flesh spawn and probably go into the bay.

Let me go ahead and get a vote on what you'll do with the snake dna, and go ahead and give me a roll, 1d100, to see what happens when you hit the water, or more specifically, if you notice something.

As you see the now lifeless form in the channel below, you receed and regroup with your minions. You can feel through your power of empathy an unrest in both of them, and gather them together to allay their troubles.

Speak your minds, I can feel your fear from here.

Master! the plated one beings What was that, why was he after us?

Fear. They fear us. They fear what we can become. The seek to snuff us out in our beginning. They do not wish us to grow.

Why? the plated one asks. Your eyes fall upon the spiked one. You can feel that it is deliberating something, but is quiet.

They don't like our power. They know that if we grow enough, we can overtake the entirety of this world. They see us rightly as a threat.

What am I?

The spiked on finally speaks, and it is such an existential question. You let out a sigh, and explain to him.

You are my spawn. Born from my own flesh, the spark of knowledge and life breathed into you by my grace. Your purpose is plain. Protect me. Do as I bid, and grow ever stronger.

You think there is perhaps more you can say, but you do not think now is the time of the place. You decide that on the tail of a victory, it is best for all of you to be invigorated. To be excitable and not to think of the possible danger you are in.

State your desires, and I will work to fill them. You have had your first taste of combat, but not your last. Your request need not be combat oriented, but it is wise to be aware of the needs you each have.

Without a moments hesitation, the plated minion calls out Bone! Please, get me more bone, so I can make my plates denser and less patchy.

Easily done. And you? You ask your spiked minion.

I want to be smarter. It also speaks without hesitation. And you nod. Increased intelligence means higher capabilities to lead and to avoid bad situations. It's not a bad quality to have in your minions, but you also seek more intelligence. Still, you can sense that your own will greatly exceeds the wills of your companions, even combined, so you in the end agree.

Done. I will see to it that your brain matter is doubled in the coming weeks. First however, we must retreat to shack. We have work to do. You. you communicate, the plated minion snapping to attention immediately. Go into the ocean ahead of us. Scout the area, and try to get us some good information. I will be digesting a small snack I found earlier. You will protect me. You finish, switching your focus to your spiked minion.

As the plated minion splits off, and you and your spiked minion return to the nest, you find yourself eager to ingest some new DNA. Each time you'd done so in the past you'd progressed in leaps and bounds.

You find yourself growing drowsy as your body prepares to consume this creature, your vision goes fuzzy, and you slowly start to lose consciousness.

>cont
>>
>>2653332
When you come to, you can feel many new channels open to you. You think for a while, your mind wandering down the halls of the snake's body itself. The way it's constructed, how it moves. It's a beautifully simply machine in ways, but incredibly useful. The power it can achieve, and the power it conserves. You can feel your body change ever so slightly, and you feel as if your surface is somehow more stable. Your movements are more fluid, however, which is pretty impressive considering your movements thus far have been very much like a fluid. It's more that your movements are more... contained. You don't bubble and roll over yourself in a oozing heap, instead your body moves with a sort of clean purpose.

You begin packing the flesh spawn into a solid sphere, and wrap your main body around it like a rope. It is considerably larger than your own body, but moves easily as you pull it through the tunnels, only slowing you down slightly. You can feel your plated minion near the entrance to the bay, and he gives his report.

"I was unable to procure any new food, but I did see some places where it might be doable. I'm not really great at moving around in the water though." He says, almost ashamedly.

If that is a problem for you, it won't be for long. You're sure you'll soon catch some water dwelling creatures and gain some of their mobility. Your minion reports to you of a shipwreck, where some large sea creatures dwell, a few wave breakers where lots of seaweed grows, and a small fishing pier not too far from the drainage pipes.

You contemplate where you'll go as you decide it's finally time to take the plunge. Careful to go slowly to allow the flesh spawn to easily pass through the grates, you soon find yourself plunging some twenty feet down into the bay.

As you break water, there are a few things you notice immediately. One, it's cold. You hadn't expected that to bother you, but it does.

Two, the water seems to be pulling some. With your newly defined body, it is not as bad as it could have been. While you focus on it, you can maintain your membrane, but it does require a certain level of focus that is annoying to maintain. However, you notice that your minions and the flesh spawn don't seem to have this issue. You manipulate the flesh spawn into second skin of sorts, and use it to separate yourself from the salty bay water. This mitigates the problem almost entirely, as the amount of focus you need to exert to keep the flesh spawn shaped to your shape is minuscule next to the taxing process of keeping your form stable in the water.
>cont
>>
>>2653336

Your new knowledge of muscular control also helps your swimming moderately. You feel very little resistance from the water as you swim through, but you can tell the fish can move faster than you can. Perhaps it would be best to set an ambush near a food source.

You also note that your oxygen is depleting. Slowly, you estimate that you'd need to surface in some six minutes before things got dire, but it is slightly annoying. Perhaps you should focus on gaining the ability to breath underwater first so as to not needlessly expose yourself.

How do you proceed?

>To the shipwreck, that sounds like lair potential if we can start breathing underwater, plus there's surely a snack there

>Seaweed - lots of easy prey there, will get the job done without too much effort required

>There's a school of fish over there, I'll just go grab a bite

>Maybe do a little exploration of my own

>Let's see what's bottom feeding, crabs would be an easy fix for breathing under water, and maybe we can find some clams for the plated minion to enjoy.

I oughtta still get a post or two in tomorrow if all goes well.

I just realized I started this thread a week ago. Some days have been much more active than others. I hope the slow pace of the last few days isn't discouraging to you guys, I know I've not communicated it, but I've been busy with work and haven't really indicated when I was falling asleep as well as I could have at times.

>>
>>2653440
It's no problem at all. I'm just glad this quest hasn't ended abruptly. Honestly as of right now this is my favorite quest that is currently running.
>>
>>2653455
Hey thanks, that means a lot. Like I said in the into to this post, I haven't been active here in quite a while. I wasn't sure if this would garner any interest.

While we're paused, I was thinking. Instead of jumping into an episode 2 once this thread fills up, how would you guys feel about a companion quest from the perspective of our enemies? It may still be too early in this quest, but I've been floating the idea for a bit. Any thoughts?
>>
>>2653465
As in we're fighting other mutant creatures as a member of the organization after us?
>>
>>2653495
I was more thinking we'd be following the team that's in pursuit of us.

The thread would start as the human controlling our little android friend is waking up back at base, and would detail the kind of tech they're cooking up to deal with us and their attempts to locate us again.

I know the information shared between threads would be a slight issue, but if I go the two threads route, I'd like them both be seriously attempting to outmaneuver the other. If you guys wanna keep it this one thread and not have to worry about all that, then that's fine too. I just wanted opinions on the idea.
>>
>>2653508
Seems fun to do, trying to out do each other.
Then again it is really early to start 2 threads.

I really don't mind having both or just one thread for now.

QM, what do you feel like doing?
>>
>>2653508
I'm not against it, but honestly I'd prefer we stick to this one quest.
>>
>>2653508
Sounds like a pretty cool thing to try, but it is way early.
I'm definitely open to it though
>>
>>2653508
Yeah its too early, but I wouldn't mind little vignettes of what their doing now and again, especially if we get noticed. Also great quest so far, its a really interesting change from the usual waifu/super power shittery that you usually see on this board.
>>
Seems like the idea of an alternate quest is hit or miss, but it's widely agreed that it's too early for one right now anyway. Understandable.

Anyway, I should probably work on that crab related write up right about now.

After the first few times surfacing, you realize that the flesh spawn you had cloaked yourself with could be utilized to carry some oxygen down with you. down with you as well. By thinning the layer that you'd surrounded most of your form with, you allow for small oxygen sacks to form. Your recent intelligence boost, as well as your recent focus on bodily control make the creation of breathing sacks This allows you to make much more extended trips to the bottom of the bay without fear of drowning yourself.

You find food plentiful, but in painfully small increments compared to feast available in the city above. Still, there were many forms of life on the bay floor. You saw no reason to avail yourself of only the crab.

Aside from the crabs, who dwelled under every rock and scuttled haplessly about, there were clams aplenty, and other small snacks. Rather than feasting on them immediately, you store the mix of living and dead flesh in your form, until you have compiled enough various creatures to provide you with a passable meal. Your minions however have no such reservations about when they can eat, and happily consume all of the food you pass over. You intentionally leave several crabs and clams for your plated minion, and your spiked minion even finds a few urchins, which he seems to enjoy quite a lot. As they feast, they slowly begin to change. You don't notice it at first, but after an hour of hunting your plated minion has much greater bodily coverage from his plating, and your spiked minion's spikes have begun to change from their bony color to a more black and pointed form. There were also smaller auxiliary spines beginning to form on his back. You feel a sense of pleasure seeing this. Whether that pleasure is derived from the knowledge that your strength grows with theirs, or from some paternal sense of pride, who can say. Unfortunately, not all that you saw on your hunt was as pleasant. you cannot help but notice the filth that stands in the bay. Plastic waste from the humans above. Some areas of the bay floor are far worse off than others, and you mostly hunt in the healthy areas where life still thrives. Still, occasionally you drift off course into the sludge and the grime and stirr up nasty clouds of chemical sludge in your attempt to probe the sands for more burrowed clams, or overturning rocks to scoop up the crabs below. Each time it happens, you feel briefly sick, but quickly recover.

You now have a writhing mass of crabs, clams, urchins, starfish, and bottom feeding fish.

You need to find some place safe to digest. Where do you go?

>Back into the canal system, just for now. At least I can breath up there

>Look for that underground lake again. There was an underground river flowing from it, that's gotta lead into the bay somewhere right?

>Maybe there's an underwater cave around here. That could be a neat place to lair.

>It'd be better to explore the lake more before trying to make any plans.

If we could get a little air bubble, maybe sustain it somehow using our own flesh or the fleshspawn, or if the ship has any rooms that isn't full of holes, then we could make a temporary nest there in the air bubble.
If we can't, then

Voting for underground lake.

It seems like a fairly safe option provided we can find it.

No one else has chimed in so let's go with search for the lake.

Go ahead and give me a roll, DC 65 to find the lake entrance from the bay.

You gather up your minions and begin propelling yourself through the bay waters. Surfacing once more to replenish your air supply, as well as glance towards the now distant drain which you'd entered the bay from. you begin to estimate your previous movements inside of the canal system. You visualize the path you'd taken to reach the abandoned and ancient aquaducts, and from there you visualized where the small crack in the wall was where you'd manage to slip through the stone walls into the natural chamber.

You persisted, trying then to estimate where the river tunnel you'd seen may let out, and though you see no falls, you do have a rough estimate of where you might look. You immediately make your way around the bay, to the far side of the rocky cliffs that overlook the city's harbor. You once again begin looking for falls of some sort, and still fail to spot them. Still, you are not deterred. You make your way underwater, following the contour of the cliffs and keeping an eye out for anything that looks like an underground cave.

Finally you find it. A small series of fissures in a wall. Each have a gentle current flowing outward, which indicates a source of water from somewhere within.

You press yourself through one of the wider gaps, which is some six inches in width. At some points it grows more narrow, but you manage to get through without too much trouble.

Once inside, you find yourself standing in a shallow pool of water that fills the entire chamber. It is gently flowing, not at all like the underground river you'd seen before. Still, this is roughly the right area, you think, not having had a precise enough location in mind. And the water is flowing from some deeper source. You continue down the path, against the current, and eventually come to a place where the slope of the path steepens significantly, coming to a head in a waterfall that rose some twenty feet into the air.

Scaling the wall to get to the waterfall's mouth is easily done, however, the waterfall itself is pretty difficult to traverse. The water spans the entire diamter of the hole that's spitting it into the chamber below, and is falling with great force.

You finally manage to pull yourself into the channel, making good use of your spiked minion's spikes in order to pull yourself slowly against the current, which is too powerful for you to swim through.
>>
>>2658874

You crawl along at a snail's pace. So slow against the current that you begin to worry your air supply will run dry, until you finally break the surface. From that point on, it's an easy task to travel, as there are ledges which stand above the underground river.

You follow the path, finding a few splits along the way. However, eventually you come to the same lake you'd found before, with the wide channels bored into the rocks at the outskirts. As you move along the edge of the lake, you notice that a small shell beach has formed in the natural cove that this lake has formed. There are even some tiny white crabs active hiding beneath the shells. Your meal is sizable enough that you don't worry too much about collecting these, but your plated minion idly chases some around. You get the sense that he's doing so more to alleviate his boredom than to actually appease his hunger, but he does seem to have a particular liking for crabs and clams so you don't discourage the behavior.

Finally, somewhere safe enough to rest and digest. You command your minions to watch over you as you process your food.

Alright, so in addition to the ability to breathe under water, thanks to the amalgam of species you've taken in you also get a random ability from the crab, the urchins, and the starfish

From the crab, you get the ability to easily form pincer claws wherever you choose from your body.

From the urchin you receive their spikes

And from the starfish, you gain knowledge of their anatomy, specifically, their water vascular system.

You do not gain any of the abilities of the clams nor the bottom feeding fish you'd ingested.

Write up soon.

You awaken from your slumber. Conferring with your minions you find that you were perhaps unconscious for three hours. Not as long a period as when you were younger. Perhaps it varies depending on the size of your meal. The cave you find yourself in is now beginning to fill with flesh spawn after your consumption. It seems the fleshspawn you'd been cloaking yourself with joined with the flesh spawn you'd created and begun coating the floor. At certain points the flesh spawn extends into the water, which has turned a red murky color in the areas where it extends into the water. Other nodules of flesh spawn have webbed out along the beach, and you see that some of the crabs have been webbed over by the fleshy mass, and were in the slow process of being converted into yet more flesh spawn.

As your mind fully comes into focus, you begin to realize several things.

Much about you has changed after absorbing the many sources of dna all at once.

Firstly, the thing you'd been focusing on was indeed achieved. You sense that you can now breathe the water as well as the air. You are not sure what limitations this under water breathing ability might impose on your form, but you at the very least won't drown.

A codex of knowledge is pulsing in your brain as you try to process all of the various traits and functions each of the things you'd consumed. The amount of knowledge is far too great for you to comprehend all at once, but certain things stick with you as the information is absorbed into the core of your being.

You are intimately aware of a few things. Like your spiked minion, you find the creation of spikes easy, however unlike your spiked minion, your spikes are more like spines. Thin barbed quills which you can produce from your flesh. You can also create larged pincered claws from any point on your body, and experiment with the ability by forming several tendrils, and trying to maintain a clawed shape at the end of them. After your eigth tenth tendril though, you find it impossible to form any more clawed structures. Most likely, you simply lack the specific type of mass to make any more of the hard structure.

You also feel something different inside of you. You find you can created tubefeet, using the hydrolic systems now embedded in your body's makeup to create pressure between the tubefeet and any given surface. A potentially useful ability.

Where shall you go now that your feast is complete and you have somewhere safe to rest.

We promised our spider minion some more intelligence. Let's make good on that promise. (Also it might be a good idea to get some more intelligence ourselves. and bone can make some more plate armor for our plated friend.)

We also haven't done any infesting yet, so it might be fun to try that out at some point.

I've also noticed that the thread is no longer bumping back up to the first page, so I guess it's time to start a new thread.

It's a little embarrassing to have to ask, but like I said before I haven't been around here in years. I thought I had a 750 bump limit, did this thread run for too long or something?
>>
>>2660120
and uh, while I'm asking questions how do I get this thing onto suptg?
>>
>>2660120
The quest is only as long as there are people willing to participate. I think you're doing fine.
>>
>>2660234
nah I only meant this quest is on page 8 now. Soon it'll be deleted. I need to start a new thread but I also wanna make sure this one gets archived.
>>
>>2660238
some brave soul will archive it, don't worry.

I'd also like to say, again, great job on the quest so far. I really like this interesting perspective switch to the monster of any other usual story. Most /qst/ readers are simply unwilling to make a somewhat difficult to like character, much to the detriment of the actual story. Unfortunately, interesting quests like this also attract a certain kind of weirdo, that often makes the whole thing seem perverse. Not to insult anyone reading or participating in this quest, as the amount of weirdness has been kept to a nice minimum.

>tldr great job keep it up
>>
>>2660412
Yeah I was warned that this kind of quest has a tendency to attract a certain 'type' of player. I haven't been too put off so far though. While you guys aren't making all the choices I would have, you aren't being totally stupid either.

While this thread is still up, if you have any questions, or if there's anything you want better explained, go ahead and ask it.

I'm about to make the second thread, but we can keep chatting here in the interim.
>>
>>2660429

also, new thread

what are our minions opinions on us? and what do our makers think about this situation? Did any security guard happen to see the footage of us in the morgue, and if so, what did they think? Also, what did the cyborg agent and his handler think of us winning that fight?
>>
and just saying when you're getting off and when you might come back on can really help with keeping consistent readership.
>>
>>2660442
Our minions like us pretty well. We made 'em fight, but we fought too, and we feed them pretty well. They don't know much about the world yet, just that everything we feed them tastes good and we can overpower their control of their bodies with a thought. Despite that ability, we mostly let them do whatever they want. For now, what they want usually is limited eating things and killing things. As they evolve and grow their personalities, that may change, but for now they're basically children.

>>2660449
as for that, I'll try to be better about it. Maybe I'll set some solid thread rules like some people do. Votes that last (x minutes) and one post every hour while I'm running with defined stops whenever I'm going to sleep.
>>
>>2660459
I'm also curious as to what our knowledge of human culture is. We know what buildings and cars are and we may understand their purpose, but do we know any of the reasons for its existence beyond utility? I'm also curious if we know anything about pop culture, or if we have a vague understanding of art and music?
>>
>>2660474
You know of art and music, but have no emotional tether to them.

You know of buildings, and their purpose, but couldn't care less for the purposes. You may have an inkling that businesses exist and that trade exists between humans, but you don't care too much about details like that.

At this point in your growth you mostly just care about how you can grow and stay concealed. As you get smarter, you might take more interest in buildings, but that could be a little while.
>>
Personally, I think these type of quests get many lurkers, but very few active participants, mainly because they are usually abandoned soon after they start up. Setting up rules, and then stating them in the OP at least shows that this isn't something that you've made up in the spur of the moment, thus inclining people to become invested and participate.

Just someno pun intendedfood for thought.
>>
>>2660530
I guess whenever I get to thread 3 I'll set some rules in the top post. Something concrete. All that really matters though is that I keep running it. Whether it's unpolished or not, once I get to thread 10 or 11 or whatever people will figure out it's not gonna get abandoned quickly.
