<You are Erick Vanders, assistant manager at WalMart Supercenter in Washington DC. Or so you were, until an untimely death saw the end of your normal life. Now, you find yourself trapped, along with several others, in an unforgiving death game orchestrated by an enigmatic black sphere known only as Gantz. Its rules are simple: hunt and kill monsters, aliens, from other worlds before the time limit, or be killed by them. With the promise of a way out, and Gantz's technologically advanced arsenal as your driving force, can you live through the agony of life after death? Or will your mind and body break like the hundreds of others that lived before you?>

Darkness and formless shapes fill your conscious vision as a throbbing pain fills the rest of your senses. The motion of your eyelids is slow and forced as the darkness begins to part from sight revealing several more of the shapes, their forms becoming recognizeable. You guess they might be people, given the fuzzy silhouette of their heads and bodies. Between the aches of pain, you feel a few tugs on your extremities as the feeling of the hard floor begins to give way to nothing. The ringing in your ears fades as well, revealing the huddled voices of people and the shouts of two others that seem to be holding you by the legs and shoulders.

"He's waking up," one of the figures says, as your body feels itself lightly drop on a cushioning sheet, "give him some room! Please clear the street, please!"

"Hey, ain't that the guy from that explosion?", a few voices in the mass of people speak as their forms begin to distance themselves, "He's got the same hoodie, but it can't be him, too skinny. You think it's like a panic episode or something? Maybe it's PTSD and he collapsed from shock!"

The shouting almost hurts as your hearing returns, though they begin to disperse as you feel the rest of your body returning to normality. With the feeling in your arms and legs returning, you prop yourself up with some effort and find your vision filter in as well. You're currently sitting on a gurney, with a small crowd of people beginning to back away from the two paramedics coming closer to you. Judging by the red on their faces and the beads of sweat on their brows, they must have been trying to revive you after you had collapsed. The older looking of the two waves a hand in front of your face, and you immediately turn your head to the motion.

<Continued>

"Ok, it seems you're fully conscious now," the paramedic states, looking over your face, "gave everyone quite the scare considering they reported you just fainted in the middle of the street. Mind telling us what happened here exactly?"

The slight barrage of a question riles up your mind a little, your eyes moving to any part of the street that can refresh your memory. It doesn't take you long to remember a portion however, as Subway's logo in the store in front of you begins to jog your memory. You saw Stheno enter that Subway as you finished buying something, then there was a large man right behind her. You tried contacting her telepathically, and made contact with that man, who said he was her brother; Beowulf or something edgy like that. Then...you don't quite remember what happened next but you assume it might have been involved with you fainting.

The shortened memory hurts to recollect a bit. You try to look around for something to take your attention away. Your car to your left, still parked on the curb, right behind the paramedic's vehicle. Actually, there's a digital meter right next to it, that you make out somewhat to 1:00 PM. Wait, weren't you doing something before this went down? A snap of fingers hails you back to the present view of that same paramedic, now looking a bit more worried.

"Are you sure you're alright?" he states, looking you over again, "We can let take you to the nearest hospital further treatment, but you have to let us know. What happened here?"

'Would they even believe me?'

You raise an open palm over to them, to let them know to stop speaking. They oblige, as you take a deep breath and try to spin a tale to hopefully get them off your back.

"Sorry, I just had such a busy day that I had forgotten to eat," you start, the look of concern on their faces not fading, "And after I finished at the Subway, everything just...went dark. Kind of ashamed really, going without eating for that long."

"Strange," the younger of the two starts, his eyes drawing to your stomach, "fainting spells for undernourishment don't usually start unless you're a diabetic or have been at least a week or so without food. We'll have to check with your main provider, and see about your medical history, shouldn't take more than a few minutes though."

"Whoa hold on now," you start, trying to get off the gurney, "I can't stay here for very long, I need to head out to work. What time is it?"

"It's four past one," the older of the two states, looking over to his watch, "When does your wo-"

"Oh shit," you blurt out, then bound off of the gurney, "I have to get to work, now! Sorry, just call me at another time, but thanks for the help!"

Your leap from the gurney is met with a few worried shouts from the paramedics but your quick sprint to your car probably hails to your stable condition. Or at least that's the excuse you're going to give yourself for them not following you further as you almost break into your own car with manic speed and your keys. The rest of the crowd surrounding the accident begins to disperse as start your car and head out to Wal-Mart.

'God, hope that Sam is feeling forgiving today.'

<April 25th, Wednesday 1:30 PM>

"You know Erick," he starts, his fingers picking at his chin, "fainting spells are one thing, but there's usually a reason for them. I don't know what you fed those 'paramedics' or whatever, but it's not looking all that believable considering your current state."

"Sir, it's true however," you state, then flashing him a bruise on your elbow from when you fell on the concrete, "I was finished getting some lunch when suddenly I lost consciousness. I couldn't have just done this to myself."

"Well, where's the medical report?" Sam replies, "paramedics usually file one of them whenever they're on the site of an accident. I need that in order to not have you incur a penalty here"

"I..." you start, then chastise yourself for not waiting for them to finish up, "...don't have it..."

"..." Sam sighs, then looks down and turns his swivel chair away from you, "I'll let you off with a warning Erick, since you're always punctual. But next time, this will be taken off one of your free days to make up the time."

"Yes...sir," you meekly state, as Sam waves you back to the floor and out of his room. All the way to your station however, you can't help but curse Stheno's brother for this one. It was a dirty trick to pull, but it might be something to ask Stheno about later.

<GREAT SUCCESS>
<April 25th, Wednesday 9:00 PM>

In spite of this being just your second week, the managerial position comes in naturally for you as you quickly ease along the rabble of both customers and employees alike. That being said though, it does come with the added stress of having to file out several dozen or so excel sheets of employee wages for the upcoming month. Speaking of which, your paycheck may due by the end of the month as well, though you imagine the wage is still going to be for your previous position.

Towards the end of your shift, you're called out to the floor to address a complaint from a familiar face. There's an argument going down between one of the customer service clerks, and Maria Fernandez as a car battery lies between the two on the returns table. She immediately recognizes you as you approach, leaving you with a strange sense of

"Erick!" she says, looking quite surprised and happy to see you, "I didn't know you were a manager here, but man am I glad to see you. Could you help a friend out here?"

"Sure," you start, shifting your glance between her and the employee, "how can I be of service? What exactly occurred here?"

"She was trying to return a used-" the clerk starts, before Maria briskly cuts her off.

"For the last time, it is not used!" Maria almost shouts, then looks over to you, "I took off the caps and had it packed as a replacement for my old battery. I was gonna use it when it ran out, but I found out it was actually the wrong voltage."

She hands over a receipt, pointing at a date of purchase being about 5 days ago.
You nod your head and move over to the battery and see what is the problem with it. You eye it close and notice that the caps are indeed off and bits of tar or black oil are hitting the bottom of the battery. That doesn't really prove much until you notice a bit of fluid coming out of the top of one of the caps. This was indeed a used battery, but judging by the receipt's date it probably wasn't used all that much. Maria is not a good liar, but at least not trying to hock an old battery here.

+1/2 Trust (Maria Fernandez)

"I'm going to assume you want cash for this?" you say, earning a positive nod from Maria, "I am afraid I cannot do that unfortunately. Even if you didn't use it, the caps on it are off. Unless you're refilling it, we can't really do much on it unfortunately."

"Oh come on Erick," she replies, looking a little annoyed, "don't tell me you're gonna give me a hard time as well. Your people can check it if they want, and they'll say that it's full as well."

"Tell you what Maria," you say, handing her receipt to the clerk, "I'll refund you store credit in full out of good faith. But, we're not legally allowed to take back open batteries like this."

"I mean...", Maria stumbles a little, but then sighs, "Alright fine, better than nothing, I suppose. I don't come here that often, but I can always make the best of it with the girls."

"Glad to hear it," you say, making way for Maria to finish up the transaction with the clerk. While you override the refund and give her a small gift card for the store credit, she motions you outside for a second. After getting the transaction slip and recording the time, you head out to the front entrance with Maria. In spite of it being spring, the night is unusually cold, something Maria is beginning to regret in her slightly shaking shorts and tank top.

"I got a text from one of my girls," she says, showing you the Claire's text on her phone, "said to talk to you about that little girl. She didn't go that in depth, but she said that she might have actually seen her when she died."

"What?" you reply, furrowing your brow at the revelation, "Claire saw her fall? Why didn't she tell anyone about this?"

"You'll have to talk to her about that," Maria retorts, but then shows you something else on the text, "but she did mention she saw someone else there. A man, that may have actually pushed her off of that bench from the second floor."

"Anyways, I've got to get home," Maria finishes, turning towards the parking lot, "if you ask me though, I think that man must have had an ulterior motive for doing that than just killing a random kid. Anyways, see yah Erick, and thanks for the return."

<April 25th, Wednesday 10:00 PM>

The rest of your shift goes surprisingly well in spite of the eerie second hand revelation. While it lingers in the back of your head, it doesn't distract you too much from your actual job. After finishing up the last of the wage reports, you head out of the floor, drop your tag and vest, and leave for home.

You had to almost stop yourself from returning back to the old apartments. The regular route had been so ingrained into your head that the whole return trip form work had become almost a reflex on the DC streets. The drive back to your new place with Paula was not as short as your old home, but it was something that you would have to get used to. Parking on the curb would have been an issue back then, given the limited DC parking space, but this was thankfully averted with the most beautiful words you had seen that whole evening.

<RESIDENT PARKING>

You headed inside to find the lights on but no Paula in the living room. Heading a little deeper, you found your answer in a locked door from the restroom and the sound of water sprinkling inside. Given her job, you weren't surprised that she would need the shower time for it. While your mind danced on Paula's naked form in there, and the possibility of a shower-time rendezvous, the lock on the door was probably preemptive for this exact reason.

'That woman knows me well.'

Discarding some of your naughtier thoughts, you headed into the kitchen and found that there was a half-full box of chinese take-out sitting the dining table. Judging by the lack of heat and slight onions stains on the bottom of the box, she probably brought it earlier when she arrived home. This would now make the second person you knew that somehow managed to subsist on a diet of ridiculously high carbs and fat. You didn't have much time to reflect on this as you heard the sound of a door unlocking and footsteps heading towards the kitchen. You only managed to turn around to see Paula's still soaked, towel-wrapped body now facing you.

"Good evening Erick, didn't hear you ring in," she says, looking you over, "shower's empty if you want to use it. I didn't know what you liked, so I got you some everything fried rice, in the fridge."

"Thanks," you reply, looking her over as well, "though, I can cook on days we're off you know. So, don't used to too much take out on Tuesdays."

"Sounds like a plan," she states, "anyways, anything interesting happen today? Kind of gave me a scare with that call earlier today, you know."

"But no invisible aliens" you finish your story, sitting down on the dining table alongside Paula, "so progress?"

"Nothing on my end either" Paula chuckles, holding a mug of green tea of yours in her hands, "Glad to see that the others were willing to help you guys. I'm still kind of against Carol skipping school just to do that though."

"I'm just glad that it's over honestly," you reply, sighing slightly at the end, "those posters are a good convenience but it scares me that they're that high risk to make. Kind of surprised Dante was the one to suggest it given that he was so secretive and ear to the ground about the whole Gantz thing."

"Speaking of Dante," Paula states, then looks out with a frown, "what's with him going out with Carol? Isn't she like 5 years younger than him? I get that she likes the guy but...it's kind of unnerving honestly."

"Well," you start, then wonder on the implications of the two, "I guess it's not that big of an issue if they want to be together; platonically at least. Dante's a good guy, you know he's not gonna try anything with Carol-"

"I was referring more to Carol actually," she retorts, earning an 'Oh' from you, "It kind of worries me what she might do or say if she goes deeper into it. Though, I guess we can add that as a talking point for the next meeting."

You silently nod. Knowing Carol's mindset, you figure this could turn unhealthy, but hope that Dante's own calm demeanor may be enough to hold her over until she's able to think more rationally. As for the posters, you figure that they'll make introductions much easier for all hunts from here on in. Hopefully, for all of the steps your group was taking forward, you also hoped that they also weren't about to take several steps back.

<April 25th, Wednesday 11:30 PM>

As you settled down in bed alongside Paula, you take notice of a greater amount of warmth radiating from Paula tonight. Or maybe it was only yourself that felt it, as the bed itself was surprisingly mild in comparison. Whatever the case was, the heat began to hold itself over your chest. It stuck there for a few moments as Paula entered the folds of the bed-sheets, and nestled herself there to sleep. That warmth began to enter your head, in an almost dizzying sensation of heat. Those thoughts of Paula's body in the shower began to enter your head again, the water dancing along her tanned skin and the locks of her hair glistening slightly with a healthy shine.

"Good Night Erick..." Paula yawned, giving you a kiss on the cheek.

"Wait..."

MANEUVER GAINED <Soul Mate - One per mission, Paula and Erick can re-roll a dice roll for the other, if they're in the immediate vicinity of each other>

"You really think you're going to get away with that Paula," you start, holding her hand in yours, "walking around with nothing but a towel on after I arrived? You really think I didn't see what you were doing there?"

"Oh?" Paula replies, sitting up to look at you with a smug expression, "and what of it Erick? You really think I wouldn't just walk around in my own apartment with that much abandon for myself?"

"That's where you're wrong," you say, trailing your index finger along the ridge of her arm, "It's no longer your apartment anymore now, is it? I think you owe me an apology given the circumstances."

"I guess we both do actually" she says, before planting a deep kiss on you. You close your eyes as the sensation of her lips and tongue make you almost dizzy with excitement. Even in the darkness of the bedroom, you can still make out the sight of Paula's heated gaze you pull away from her, gasping slightly for air. Her shallow breathing betrays her calm eyes, and you swear you can see blushing on her cheeks through the dim glow of the night.

There's a slight pause in your and Paula's movements, before she wraps her arms around you and pins you down for another deep kiss on the bed. The warmth caress of her body on your sends your mind over the edge as dig deeper into her lips, not pulling away anymore. Her hands go for the ridge of your shirt and your own go for the hems of her panties.

'For all of the showering and cleanliness before, it feels almost feels like wasted water now.'

<April 26th, Thursday 8:00 AM>

A ringing in your ears awakens you from a good sleep, your left hand swatting to the right to hit your phone's alarm off. Though, it's in that moment that you notice something, or rather someone, missing from that portion of the bed. You had felt that familiar warmth of Paula's heat alongside your own. It was not as intense as your experience with her last night, but the afterglow of it still marked her side of the bed with sweat and a warm imprint. Nevertheless, you were still elated in having her again, though you knew it probably wouldn't be the last time it would happen.

Getting out of the bed, and quickly fetching your briefs to cover up your nude frame, you spotted another one of Paula's handwritten notes on the dresser. It honestly amazed you on how she managed to find the time to create the notes given how early she probably had to wake up, as well as doing it quietly enough for you to continue sleeping. Though, considering how well you slept last night, you guess even an earthquake probably wouldn't have woke you up.

<Morning Big Guy. Take care of yourself and Yukino today, and sorry again that I can't be there to help out. It's all about timing, but you have to make sure that she's ready to handle it as well.>

'Ulrich mentioned that as well,' you deliberate, 'though, he was much more blunt about the approach. Either way though, I hope I can get through to her.'

<PS: Send a message to the others to not call me. And I'll be good by Friday if you still want to see Arnold Bowery about the FBI thing.>

'I actually forgot,' you chide, quickly taking out your phone to send out a mass text, 'Thank god they're still out of the loop. We'd better head out to see Mr. Bowery in the evening then...'

<April 26th, Thursday 8:30 AM>

After finishing up your morning routine of showering, clothing, and eating, your gaze lands on two texts, one from Ulrich, and another from Claire.

<Erick, Yukino's field trip is heading out at 10:00 AM sharp. Be at the school gates, bring ID, and make sure you don't wear anything with a hoodie there. They are sticklers for that rule there for whatever reason. Keep me posted, and good luck.>

'No worries,' you think, then rethink on your assumption, 'actually plenty of worry. But I'll do my best Ulrich.'

<Hey Erick, Maria told about the text. I don't know the guy's name, but I snagged a photo of him before he went away. I never showed anyone because I got scared of what happened then, and no one would believe me if I reported a crime that 'never happened'>

The photo itself is a bit fuzzy in motion, but you can make out the face of a black-shirted bearded man on it. Whatever his deal is, at least you have something to go on for now. But could it all mean?

After checking that it was indeed a jpg through its metadata, and opening to see if it worked, you opened up one of your browsers. It was only a matter of choosing on where to post it and what to ask for when you did. 4chan might help but given the amount of widespread dossing and tracking through the internet, it could be dangerous.

You had previously heard of encrypted data being an issue with files received through email or smartphones, but you were honestly lost on how to make sense of it. Given all of her hacker skills that the police department railed her for, Allie may have actually been a good help with this sort of thing. You imagine she would probably even have face recognition software or a database to make this whole process much easier. Regardless, it wasn't something to hung up on, given your circumstances.

<Do you know who this man is?>

Thus was your title for your posts on the 4chan /b/ board, along with a slight introduction saying that the man might be a child abuser. Even if it was doxxing, this guy had it coming for killing Yukino, no matter the reason. You didn't wait for responses, as you calmly closed your laptop and started out of the apartment.

<April 26th, Thursday 9:40 AM>

"ERICK!" Yukino says, as you approach the school bus line, "Dad told me you would be here, but I didn't think you'd be so early! Also, you look different without your hoodie."

Yukino's beaming smile stood out from the other somewhat bored or static demeanor of the other children. Though, they all gave her a look of definite surprise at her sudden outburst, except for the older lady behind her class's little group. You figured she was her teacher, and she quickly approached you as you waved to Yukino's excited little frame.

"Good morning," she stated, handing you a chaperone's tag, "I am Ms. Lambert, Yukino's teacher. And I would hope you're our classes' chaperone, Erick Vanders?"

"Sure as day," you reply, flashing your driver's license, "just let me know when and where we'll heading out. I'm here on Mr. Palmer's request, but I'm relatively new to the whole chaperone thing."

"Indeed," she states, handing you a brochure-like piece of paper, "The class picked out their top spots for the museum, but you'll have the say on where they start. We will all meet that rotunda for an opening speech from the curator. After that, you're to watch, protect, and instruct if able. We will reconvene at the food court at 2:00 PM before leaving at 3:00 PM. Are we clear?"

"Crystal,' you reply, and look over the brochure as she walks back to her class.

'But where to start...'

<April 26th, Thursday 9:30 AM>

You hadn't ridden in a school bus in a very long time, and the solid flatness of the seats made you remember that you never really enjoyed it. Some of the screaming kids in the back and part of DC's famous traffic wasn't helping matter much either. What's worse was that they didn't even let you sit with Yukino, and had to be at the front with Ms. Lambert while she rattled on about the youth of America and the transition between the physical and the digital that she had seen in her time. You would have given your thoughts on her points, if she wasn't so intent of just hearing herself speak all the time. It would have driven you insane had the bus not arrived at the museum sooner.

After the children unloaded from the bus, and their teacher promptly had them lined up near the front step and did her roll call, Yukino moved to your side. That familiar look of curiosity remained on her face, but there also something else you hadn't seen before. It looked like happiness, but dissimilar to her greetings or excited moments, but genuine calm happiness on her face. For what it was, you followed in her example and smiled as well.

"You ever been here before Erick?" she says, looking over the large stone steps leading to the entrance, "I went here a couple of times with my mom. She loved looking through the geological section, where they keep all the gems, said it eased her mind."

"She must have loved their beauty," you state, earning an agreeing nod from Yukino, "myself, I've only ever come here once. It was when I was very little, and I never really came back since. I loved going to the dinosaurs though, their size and strength always looked so cool to me back then."

Yukino looks like she's about to speak, when Ms. Lambert calls everyone up to the front. Alongside her class you spot five others that seem to be heading up the steps. You and Yukino head up alongside them, and catch up to the class at the front of the glass doors leading inside. Right behind them however is a large, 4 gated checkpoint where a few security guards stand by to check people bags. While you figure this is standard procedure for a public museum, you note that some of the guards have some weird hair dye on them.

'With hair like that,' you think, as you head inside line up behind the metal detector, 'how do you even get a job?'

"Hey, buddy, you're next," a very butch voice surprises you, and turn to see the line has dissapeared and a large blonde, lady security guard is now looking over to you, "Place any keys and wallets inside before heading in. Please enjoy your stay at the Smithsonian."

You do as she says, though her almost bored tone doesn't encourage you to do so. Being a security guard must suck, but with that muscle mass you wouldn't be surprised if she was an Olympic lifter on her off time. Whatever the case, you pass through the checkpoint and wait for the rest of the class at the rotunda.

<April 26th, Thursday 9:45 AM>

It almost brought a nostalgic tear to see that they hadn't changed the rotunda since you were little. The information desks set against the exhibit halls were still there, along with the banners and colorful signs showing off the exhibits themselves. Best of all though, that elephant and its massive African podium were still there, looking on to the several masses of people. In fact, the only thing that really changed was a small speaking booth and microphone set up near the elephant's podium, though you guessed that was only for the field trip itself. As the kids finished getting their inspections, they huddled up near you at the rotunda, though their teacher was nowhere in sight, which you quickly asked Yukino about.

"She said she's going with the other teachers," Yukino states, then points to the second floor, "they're gonna have a meeting or something about informationals or something like that. Apparently it's just you and the others for now."

"Strange," you say, looking over to the second floor as well, "You'd think they'd stay to hear the speech or something. Whatever, just means more fun for us, right kiddo?"

Yukino nods her head with a smile and you ruffle her hair a little. The moment doesn't last as you spot a skinny, well dressed white woman with brown hair approach the booth. Given the size of the other employees at this place it almost seems out of place for this one, but you don't pay it too much attention. In spite of the noise and otherwise rabble of the children and their chaperones, a few taps from the booth's microphone hails everyone's attention.

"Hello and welcome students of MD Hardy Middle School," the woman says with confidence in her tone, "We are very glad to have you here with us at the Smithsonian for a wonderful learning experience. I am Ms. Nacre, the curator for the Geology and earth sciences at the museum, and I hope that we at the Smithsonian can educate and interest you in the knowledge and wonder of our natural history."

In spite of how long-winded the speech seemed, the woman's tone throughout it was unwavering. Hell, you were even paying attention to her presence. Yukino appeared almost enthralled by her, and looked like she was jumping at the bit to ask her some questions. After she finished her speech, Ms. Nacre let the classes know that there were other curators in the museum that could answer their questions, but she would also remain on the rotunda for the morning if they wanted to ask her anything. Though, after the speech was over, the kids were almost chomping at the bit to head out to the first exhibit. They were begging to be let out to the first stop, but you soon felt a ring on your phone as a message from Kurtis arrived on it.

"Alright guys," you shout, hoping to be heard by the kids, "We'll start by going into the ocean hall. Stay close, and follow me inside."

The children nod and you lead them inside of the exhibit, all the while Kurtis's text message remains in the back of your mind. The Ocean Hall seems to have gotten bigger and brighter last time you were in it. The big whale is still atop of the exhibit, but the outer columns give way to two large adjacent rooms filled with massive projector screens showing some short documentaries. The kids follow you close, surprisingly well mannered given their age, though it still doesn't stop them from shouting or asking about the exhibits themselves.

As for the center of the hall, you notice that between the glass cases, a woman with messy hair and a similar outfit and Ms. Nacre is holding some sort of animal skull in her hands, while standing behind a small booth in the center. The booth itself has several more of those bones laid out on it, as well the what look like fossils of seashells. Given the bags under her eyes and the movements of her eyes, you probably imagine she's been on the caffeine after all meals and snacks diet.

Taking the opportunity however, you head up to the woman and quickly ask her to cover for you.

"Just for a little bit," you hastily ask as the class looks around, "I got a very important call and I need to take it. I would be very appreciative Miss..."

"Badari," she says, a little jittery, "and that's up to them if they want to learn about ichtyosaurs. You know how much I had to beg Rose to put me in the dinosaurs exhibit for this? Nope, everything just has to be about water and oceans, even if it doesn't make sense thematically or if kids like dinosaurs more."

"Great, thank you!" you say, quietly inching away from that sleepless hair-case and heading to a quieter portion of the exhibit. Given her demeanor, she at least seemed somewhat interested in what she was teaching, though wasn't happy about the spot itself. Upon reaching a staff exit near some pillars, you took out your phone and looked through Kurtis's message.

<Maria and the girls filled me on what happened to Allie. Are we doing this or not Erick? Please call me if you have the time.>

'This guy...'

You don't waste a second in texting him back, making a mental note to speak with the girls about what happened.

<I'll call you back later, I am busy right now. But please, don't do anything stupid Kurtis. We'll need to speak to the others about this as well.>

You don't receive a text back after you send the message, but you hope that he read it at least. Before you return to the children however, you hear a door opening in far from you, and spot a familiar figure heading towards the staff door. It's unmistakably Ms. Nacre, but she's wearing a lab coat and didn't she say she was at the rotunda? You don't dwell too much as you return back to the children after a few moments of waiting for Kurtis's text, which doesn't come. At the moment, most of them seem to have dispersed, except for Yukino who seems to be barraging Ms. Badari with a few questions regarding those ichtyosaurs she mentioned before. In spite of her age, Yukino seems to actually keep up with the woman's train of thought.

"We don't actually know how many species lived then," Badari replies, a tired smile on her face, "The best we can do is determine how different they are from the other. Wouldn't want any repeats of the sam-Oh hey, you're back."

"Nice to see you again," you somewhat snidely reply, causing her to roll her eyes, "hope the kids didn't give you much trouble. I know Yukino was sure giving you a time."

"It's nothing really," she replies, then pointing to one of the small documentary theaters, "most of them went to the movies, the others are somewhere in here, hopefully. And yeah, Yukino here knows her stuff, even made me flinch a little when I incorrectly labeled one of my fossils."

"Ophthalmosaurus, " Yukino states, then points to a large bone-like eye shape in a fossil skull, "Said to have the biggest eyes per body size of all the ichthyosaurs. It's ok though, everyone makes mistakes Ms. Badari."

"Hey, not when your career is on the line," Badari chuckles back, then looks to you, "I'd keep an eye on those kids if I were you. Not my fault if they end up getting lost."

"Yeah, I should really do that," you state, then look at Yukino, "stay with Ms. Badari for a little bit, I got to find the rest of your class. I'll be right back though, don't worry."

<April 26th, Thursday 10:30 AM>

Yukino nods and you leave before she continues her discourse with Ms. Badari. It doesn't take too long to find the kids, as they were thankfully within the exhibit hall. After reuniting the group, you establish a 'go anywhere but stay in the exhibit hall' rule for whenever you enter a new one. Though, besides Badari's odd ramblings with Yukino, the hall itself is fairly mundane for the museum. Except for their shark exhibit, which was pretty awesome with the Megalodon Jaw. Before long, you and the group are ready to move on to a new area.

We should definetly go there, it will allow Yukino to talk more about her mom and we may end up making her wanting to talk about that pent-up feelings she has.

"Alright, let's head out people," you say, pointing back to the entrance, "to the hall of fossils, and pretty much all of the dinosaurs. Hurry up if you don't want to get left behind guys."

The other kids scramble to your side as you mention the dinosaur part, though you can tell most of them are more exhibited to get out of the ocean hall. In spite of the presentation, you had to agree that this one was a little boring. After waving Badari goodbye, you left with the rest of the class back to rotunda and to the fossil hall. On your way there however, an odd sight drew your attention away from your destination.

While the kids kept in line to head to the fossil hall, you shot a glance back at Ms. Nacre from the entrance of the Ocean hall, still standing in that booth with the microphone ready. You adjusted your eyes to look again, and indeed it was her in that same outfit you saw her in her entrance. How could she be here, and at the staff exit at the same time?

'Maybe she's got a twin?' you think, until you feel a tug on your shirt. You look down to see Yukino, who's following your stare.

"Did you see something Erick?" she says, shifting her gaze to you, "You look a little lost there."

"It's nothing," you reply, perhaps a little too quickly, "let's...head over to the hall with the others. Don't want to lose them again."

Yukino nods, but you see that she caught onto your stare as well. In the back of your mind, a few scenarios began to play that you hoped were just your regular paranoia. For now though, you hurried over to the hall towards the group, making it to the entrance with them.

<April 26th, Thursday 10:45 AM>

If the nostalgia of the rotunda was perceptive, then the wave of nostalgia from seeing fossil exhibits was something almost touching to you. The large skeletons of titans long gone, and the models the museum had painstakingly recreated seemed almost picturesque to you. The old diagrams for the prehistoric world on the walls and more recent additions of feathered dinosaurs in the exhibits made for such a strange contrast yet vibrant contrast. For a few moments, while looking at the exhibits with the kids, you felt that perhaps the wonder of these ancient creatures had not gone away just yet. That was until, oddly enough, Yukino called you over to an exhibit in the far part of the hall.

"Hey Erick," she stated, pointing to an eerily familiar skeleton, "you know anything about the Carboniferous? I only know from the Triassic to Cretaceous, and the plaque on this one is too dirty to read."

The name plate read Eryops, but the stocky amphibious legs and large mouth told you something else.

'From the pier...?'

"Yeah, I know thing actually," you start, earning an attentive look from Yukino, "I saw it, by the pier with Paula, Carol and Dante. And one much, much bigger than this one was leading them."

"Wait, what?" Yukino says, shaking her head in confusion, "that sounds impossible, how could you have seen one of these? They've been extinct for almost 460 million years."

"N-no it was during our first hunt," you quickly reply, and Yukino's eyes go wide in response, "These things came out of the water, along with these crocodile looking things. Now that I think about it, it looked like they were just out to eat from those crab shacks by the pier."

"There was this really big one though," you continue, "about the size of a dump truck. During the middle of the hunt, Chris was too close to the edge of the pier and that thing just snatched him inside."

"I see..." Yukino says, forming a slight frown, "that's how he died the first time then. Still though, it's crazy to think that one of these was an alien...or maybe...one of these was the actual alien...?"

There's an eerie silence following that statement from Yukino as both you just stare at the Eryop's skeleton before you. From the start of Gantz's machinations in your life, everything seemed to make less sense in your life, yet the idea of misinformation here was something terrifying. Did that thing really come from earth or was the original an extraterrestrial all along? If something that primal could be made a lie, what did that mean of the world you currently lived in? Whatever the implication was, the sheer thought of the possibility made you feel incredibly uneasy.

<April 26th, Thursday 11:30 AM>

After that disturbing encounter with an old enemy, you and Yukino returned to the group that were now either spilling out into the fossil reconstruction lab, or towards the second floor of the exhibit. While they were still technically within the exhibit, it was a legitimate hassle to take care of this many dispersed people. After finding them all again, and quickly adding a 'stay within the same room of the exhibit' clause to your rule, they returned to look at some of the exhibits again. Between the children and the episode with that skeleton, you decided to look around at some of the models to ease your mind again.

Forgoing a bit of your own rule, you headed to the viewing area of the fossil reconstruction lab to perhaps let part of the quiet portion of this are ease your mind. However, it was met with another eerie coincidence that only served to add to your uneasiness. Filing away a few papers was Ms. Nacre again, in that same lab coat you spotted her in the staff exit, and once again leaving the room as soon as you saw her.

'Once is a coincidence,' you think, heading back to the kids, 'but twice? What the hell is going on here?'

"We'll be heading upstairs," you state, earning puzzled looks from the kids, "to the insect zoo. Not a big fan of bugs, but it's more lively than anything else in the museum."

There's a mixed reaction from your group, as some of them are actually excited to see it while others are groaning in boredom. Regardless, you lead them towards the rotunda again, and once again spotting Nacre on the podium. Though, judging by the her checking on her wrist watch, it may be time for her to head back to her office, wherever that may be. While the thought keeps niggling at the back of your head, you ascend with the children to the second floor up a flight of marble steps.

<April 26th, Thursday 12:00 PM>

You'd never actually gone to this part of the museum, more than likely for your incredible fear of insects as a kid and slight unnerved stance with them as an adult. Regardless, the exhibit felt more linear than the others as the paths led to differing bio-mes and portions of the world that held different varieties of insect. From swamps, to deserts and jungles, there seemed to be an insect or invertebrate for every corner of the world in here. Though, considering that the exhibit was called 'insect zoo', it felt strange to see spiders and scorpions behind the glass as well.

The kids were surprisingly well-behaved in this portion, though this was probably more as a result of a the layout of the exhibit rather than their interest. Like always though, Yukino seemed like she was enjoying it in spite of the others. You guessed it was that nature curiosity she carried, but there also seemed to be a sort of empathy in how she viewed and observed the exhibits.

The exhibit led the group to an large room with large windows to the Capital Park and a strange beehive exhibit that was connected to a tube leading to the outside. This wasn't the strangest thing however, as a large woman with pink highlights welcomed your group to the room. As she waved, a few butterflies or moths appeared to fly from her shoulders.

"Hello everyone," she said, in what you could only describe as the most inoffensive voice you'd heard yet, "I am Ms. Garland, and I'd like to welcome you all to the final leg of our entomological journey. Please, do look around, but watch you step, some of my friends are still around here."

The kids were a little surprised by the statement of bugs still in the room, but the majority of them seemed to be carefully approach the small kiosks to see what they were about. You went to follow them, before Ms. Garland signaled you close.

"Don't mind me asking, but are any of these children yours?", she asks, to which you nod in no, "I must say, you've taken an noble burden upon your shoulders for chaperoning so many. There must be a purpose to it I assume, are you planning on having any of your own?"

"Yeah, actually," you start, and remembering that odd talk you had with Ulrich at lunch, "my girlfriend and myself never really thought much on it, but maybe some day we would like to have one of our own. For now though, this is good practice for taking care of them."

"I'd imagine so," Ms. Garland replies, then looks to the other children, "I'll never be a mother myself, but I consider myself one to all of the children who arrive here to learn and understand. For someone as young as you however, thinking on this must be strange and exciting at the same time."

"Certainly strange," you reply, then look at Yukino staring at the bee-hive exhibit, "but I think it's something to keep hope for. I used to be a massive pessimist, but a lot has changed to make think on the future now."

"It is a good thing to hope for," she states, then waves her fingers and those two butterflies perch themselves on her palm, "I became a biologist for the reason of understanding more of the past. Yet when I see the future right in front of me, I want to do more to help it."

You didn't reply after that, but just let the thought linger in your mind. Ms. Garland herself didn't even follow it up, as she left the room, saying she had an errand to run and waving you and the children off. In spite of her leaving, perhaps a little too suddenly, her ideal of the past and future weren't too different than your own.The thought was intriguing to say the least, though it still perplexed you how she was handling those butterflies.

'Maybe it's a woman's thing,' you thought, and then quickly did a double take on that, 'Wait...does this museum only employ women?'

The time passed quickly as that other revelation came into your head. Why were there only women in this museum, or perhaps just a large proportion of them? It didn't last too long however, as the children started tugging at you to get moving and out of the exhibit. Yukino still seemed enthralled but you had to take consideration of the crowd before her, unfortunately.

You tapped her on the shoulder and let her know you were moving on. She rejoined the group and you took out the brochure, and looked over the map, noting off the places you had already visited. Judging by your time, it would have to be the last trip before heading off to the diner downstairs.

"Alright guys," you state, waving to the group, "we'll be heading over to the geological hall to look at some gemstones. Let's get moving be-"

"Wait what?" one of the kids speak out, holding his hand up, "That wasn't on our favorites list! You're only supposed to take us to the cool places here! Yuki this is all your fault."

"Yeah!" one of the girls shouts nearby, "we want to go to the animal hall. You saved the best for last, right? We know Yuki's chaperone is cool, so you'll let us go right?"

Their talking begins to turn incoherent as more of them speak up, but you definetly see where this train of thought is going. You see that some of the class is starting to surround Yukino asking her if her chaperone is really as cool as she mentioned. You start moving to the back to stop this, before Yukino herself speaks up.

"Mr. Vanders," she says, and the other kids stop for a moment, "Let's head to the Hall of Mammals, we-"

"I'll take you all there, but" you reply, earning a look from the other kids, "I am coming back here with Yukino. I'll let you guys stay at the hall, but you have to promise me that at 1:30 PM, you will meet me by the first floor stairs."

The other kids look at each other, but nod in agreement to your plan. This would be incredibly risky, given how skittish these kids could get sometimes, but you also hoped that you had earned their trust enough for them to follow you on this one. Letting out an audible sigh, you lead the children out of the insect hall, and then feel a tug on your hand before leaving.

"Thanks Erick."

<April 26th, Thursday 12:30 PM>

You and Yukino arrive alone to the Geology Hall not a moment after dropping off the kids and notice that the two of you are actually alone here. It seems that, in spite of the beautiful presentation and surroundings showing several different gemstones and geode samplings, there is almost no audience here save for the two of you. In spite of this, Yukino's calm smile doesn't fade from sight as she almost bounds inside of the main chamber.

"My mom used to tell me stories of the millions of years that it took to create the world," Yukino says, looking at some of the exhibits, "And how if everyone worked as hard as rocks, then maybe we would be living on Mars right now."

"It sounds like a really cool idea," you reply, looking at the samples alongside her, "Your mother really-"

Your words are interrupted by the sounds of an argument somewhere nearby. Yukino perks up at it too, and you quickly move to the back of the room to investigate. From behind the dividing wall, you spot two women, one tall with long hair and the other short with a security guard outfit on. Their arguing seems to be going nowhere, though they're being surprisingly loud considering they both seem to work here.

Moving a little closer to the wall, you listen in on them. Someone odd has been occurring here since you arrived, and you need to make sure it wasn't just your regular paranoia again. Yukino also moves in close, kneeling behind you and peeking her head to hear better.

"I'm not discussing this with you again," the taller one states, calm frustration in her voice, "I am not going back with you tonight nor tomorrow. And if you keep pushing it, it won't be ever again, you hear me Ruby?"

"I push it because I care," the smaller one (Ruby?) retorts, a less calm frustration in her voice, "we were good for so long, and now you want to end it because of something I already apologized for?! You're being so insufferable right now!"

"Could you keep your voice down?" Saphy(?) replies, her bangs no doubt covering a scowl, "We're in a public area, what if you were heard right now? Act a bit more professionally, please."

"Yeah, as if ANYONE ever even comes the Geology Hall," Ruby replies, waving her arms in the air to prove her point, "Face it, you know I was right when I said Rose was going to assign us the dead ends of this place. Don't you see why need to get back to-"

"It's not just the job!" Saphy finally speaks up, her voice matching her tone, "It's because you only care about yourself and that dumb image you have of us, that image you wanted Rose to put up above everyone else here! You only care about the best for your own ego, but never m-me...n-never a-about u-u..u..."

Saphy's frame drops to the ground as you hear several audible sobs coming from her as her argument begins to dissipate.The security guard woman in on her in seconds catching her fall and trying desperately to find the words to say to her. You try to listen in, until you hear a few closer sobs nearby. Looking down, you notice that Yukino's eyes are wide, and several tears are starting to flow from her eyes.

You quickly pull her away, knowing that this may be too much for her to see, though something tells you it probably wouldn't be the first time. Taking her by the hand to another part of the exhibit, you sit her against one of the walls, though the tears don't stop.

'She must have recalled it at the mall,' you surmise, reaching in your pocket for the letter, 'assuming her mother committed suicide, or jumped as she says, it would make sense as a mental image. But...was she really just looking for here there...?"

"M-Mommy...I-I was so...scared for you...", Yukino continues, and you continue to desperately get that letter out, "I-I...didn't w-want d-dad to..."

"Yukino, take this," you state, handing her the letter, "your dad wanted me to give this to you. It's from your mother, something she wrote before that happened..."

Yukino's sobs quiet a little as she meekly takes the letter from your hands. She doesn't waste much time in getting it open, all finesse in her hands gone as she rips part of the top open. Afraid that she might rip the message inside, you help her in opening it more carefully, and a folded message slips out onto Yukino's hands. She unfolds it and her eyes widen a little more as she reads the letter. You give her a few moments to digest its contents, before it abruptly drops from her hands. Yukino's eyes are red from the tears, her cheeks are wet from their trails, but this time no coherent words leave her lips, only pained sobs as she lunges for you with her small arms.

She remains hugging you, her face and head digging into your shirt and you just return the hug right back. For a few seconds you spot the contents of the letter on the floor, yet cannot make out the characters on the page. It wouldn't have matter, for you probably know what that text says.

--------

<To my Daughter, Yukino>

<If you are reading this letter, then you must know your mother is no longer with you. You can cry, even though I always told you to be strong. You can shout, even though I told you to keep your voice down. But don't be sad Yukino, for I know you will overcome this.

Look to your friends, to your father, and most importantly to yourself. As now, you have to be stronger than ever before for yourself. As a mother, she wishes for you to learn, to smile and to grow as she wished you would before any of this happened.

Know that your mother does not wish for forgiveness from you, as she knows she does not deserve it for doing something so cruel. She only wishes that you will live happily in her place, alongside the man she loved. If fate is so cruel, then let it at least grant you this much.

For the Red String of Fate has a way of creating a happy ending after so much suffering. So take heart, for your mother watches over you, now and forever more.>

+2 Trust (Yukino Palmer)

<April 26th, Thursday 1:20 PM>

Your hug with Yukino had ended after several minutes of you desperately trying to console her, before she spoke up again with an apology to you as well as an explanation on what had happened to her mother and father. She recalled in a very low tone that her dad used to work for the Yakuza back in Japan as a hitman, something almost unheard of for a foreigner, and something her mother had grown more and more weary of throughout their lives. She had tried to talk him out of the jobs, but he always considered it a point of pride for himself. It didn't matter though, as she knew that their lives were getting put into more danger the more money kept making.

After almost being assaulted on the steps of their home, she pleaded with his boss to let him out and let her family leave the mob world. They didn't like it, and gave her a choice to either kill herself out of respect or kill her daughter as prior to resignation. Like Ulrich mentioned before, Yukino never knew about the letter, but was there when her mother jumped from the roof of a department store as she coming back from school. Her father found out soon afterwards about the deal, and took a hit against his old boss for a rival gang in order to secure passage for himself and Yukino to American and a clean slate.

She didn't go into what her dad did now, but did let you know on why she left him at the mall. She wanted to believe her mother was somewhere again, even if she had to look so impossibly high for her. In a place that was so similar to where she had ended her life.

"It was a dumb thing to do" Yukino says, looking ahead at the exhibits, "because I wanted to see her again. I would have jumped then Erick, because I thought that if I did then maybe I would have seen her in a similar light. It was only when I got bumped and fell that I realized that I didn't really want that..."

"Don't blame yourself Yukino," you reply, giving her a pat on the shoulder, "people do horrible things to themselves when they're sad or can't deal with their emotions. Honestly though, I am just glad you're still here to have this conversation."

"I know..."she says, looking back at you, "Thank you Erick. I should have said this earlier, but, I wish I could have had a brother like you."

You nod, lift up from the floor, and offer a hand up. She smiles a genuine, calm smile as she does and you both head out of the exhibit.

<April 26th, Thursday 2:00 PM>

After meeting up with the kids, who had surprisingly enough followed your instructions, you all headed downstairs to the main restaurant. You didn't see those two women as you headed out of the Geology Hall, though granted you were more glad they didn't hear you and Yukino in there. Now that you recall it, you didn't anymore of the main staff besides the two security guards up front. Whatever was going on at this museum, you felt like you probably wouldn't find out soon.

Not that it mattered too much now, considering you had completed your primary objective in helping Yukino. The teacher congratulating you on a job well done, after an outstanding review from the kids, only served to compound your current feeling of accomplishment. You didn't show it though, for you knew that you would have plenty to say to Paula after returning home. After being given a meal voucher from Ms. Lambert, and picking out a cheap burger and a soda from the menu, you sat down alongside Yukino.

"Hey Erick," she says, taking a bite out of her sandwich, "did my dad ask you to do this? The chaperone thing I know about, but more about the letter."

"He did," you reply, trying to be as honest as possible, "In his words, he said he felt too guilty and that he didn't know when a good time would come. So, he asked me to help him out. I didn't mean to deceive you Yukino, just wanted to help."

"It's ok Erick," she sighs, then biting into her sandwich again, "in a way, I kind of never wanted to talk to him about it. I guess I also felt guilty as well, not about myself but more about how I acted around him for so long, trying to be strong like he was."

"We all do things to stop pain," you state, smiling a little, "I can say that I did something similar before I met Paula or the others. There are times we can't do everything ourselves, and that's why your friends are so important."

"I know that now," Yukino adds, finishing her sandwich, "thanks again Erick. Now, you want to help me pick something at the gift-shop before we go?"

There's a mischievous grin on her face as she asks this tonally strange question. It was something odd, but at the same time refreshing from Yukino. Though, you knew that she was also expecting you to pay for it...

Your suggestion of plushies was something of a blind guess, considering Yukino's tendencies weren't very child oriented. Yet the moment you mentioned it, a very pleased smile crept on her face, and he instantly hauled you in hand to the gift shop. You'd never really seen this place before, but were a little surprised at the sheer variety of items here. Though, considering the prices on some of these things, it was probably a good idea to not head in all that often.

While Yukino picked out her plushie, your eyes settled on a pair of novelty mugs. Considering how much coffee and tea you Paula consumed, you snatched them up and hauled them to the cash register, right in time for Yukino to return with a long necked plushie. Just as you feared, she did indeed make you pay for that plushie, though considering what you had both just been through, you didn't mind the pricing on it too much. After safely getting your two mugs tucked away, you and Yukino regrouped with the teachers and returned back to the school with the rest of the kids.

Through the long trip back, you noticed that Yukino's silent stares and nonchalant expression was slightly more calm now. Though, she remained at odds on whether to speak to her classmates, who were kind of praising you a little for making the trip kind of fun. It was an positive gesture, that followed you back to Yukino's school.

Yukino asked to head home with you rather than take the bus, to which you obliged as she went to get some stuff from her locker before returning to you. It was at this time, that you got a message from Ulrich.

<Hey, are you still at the museum? Call me as soon as you can on the situation.

With Yukino getting her things, it seems like a good a time as any to call him, and you dial in his number. After a few moments of silence, he answers with a surprised voice.

"Hey Ulrich," you start, looking out to the school for Yukino, "just calling to let you know that everything went much better than I expected actually. I'll be driving Yukino back to your place at her request, though it's up to you on when you want to talk to her about the whole situation."

"That excellent news Erick," he says over the phone, his voice almost drowning in elation, "Thank you so much with this. Take it from a professional, I owe you a massive favor for this."

"Hey it's alright, no worries," you reply, trying your best to act modest, " I'll still watch her for you for the day, and Paula will join me shortly, alright?"

"Got it, thank you Er-," Ulrich responds, until static ends the call prematurely, startling you. You try to call him back, until Yukino returns with her backpack.

"Erick, is something wrong?" Yukino asks, as you try keep your hand from shaking, "Did dad call you or-"

"Yeah, he did," you reply, perhaps a little too quickly, "Call cut off for some reason, but I'll get him back in a sec. Just let me find..."

You see for a split second a strange flicker on your screen before your smartphone returns to normality. It reminded you of an old tube TV restarting, down to the slight grain returning to your phone. While there's a hint of worry your mind, you quickly dial Ulrich's number again. After a few very draining seconds of unresponsive time, he responds.

"Hey Erick," he starts, and you mentally exhale in relief, "I don't know what happened there, signal cut out for whatever reason. Anyways, I just wanted to say that I am very thankful for helping out with this again, just let me know if I can help you with anything as well. Anyways, I got to get back to work, see you."

"Goodbye daddy!" Yukino manages to shout into your phone before the call cuts, "Hope he heard me there. What did he want from you anyways?"

"Just a report on how things went is all," you reply, then start heading to your car, "anyways, let's get moving, we've got other things to do today as well. You ready to see a new training spot for our team?"

<April 26th, Thursday 4:10 PM>

You fill Yukino in on the training session on the drive back, saying that Kurtis was kind enough to essentially donate the warehouse to the group. Given Yukino's usual responses to these announcements, she was quite excited to learn about this new place. Considering how dangerous or late those other places made you, it felt good to finally have something that was a bit more desirable. That strange flicker however haunted you for a bit, as you felt that you had seen it somewhere else before...

After making a quick stop at your apartment to retrieve your gear, arrived to Yukino's apartment and quickly set about doing Ulrich's list of chores. Laundry, food, and vacuuming his house were all completed around the time Paula arrived. Yukino didn't wait too long before filling her on what happened at the museum as well as summarizing what had happened to her as well. She figured that if she could trust you, then she could certainly trust Paula. Though, when Paula offered a hug Yukino was a bit more reluctant to go for it; maybe it was the timing.

"So...you don't know what he does now?" Paula asks, and Yukino nods her head 'no', "It's alright kiddo. No matter what he does now or what he did before, you still love him as your father."

"I know," Yukino says, then shifts her gaze to you with a snide grin, "Also, Erick talked to this lady at the museum about you and him having kids. Is that true Paula?"

'CHANGE THE SUBJECT!', you scream in your mind as Paula's eyes go wide.

We can at least try...besides. If we break to much stuff and the police watch the security fotage during our visit they will make us a even bigger suspect.

I feel like the Cops are already following us. Everyone we have contact with is probably already known to them.

"Err- Kurtis is going to break Allie out of jail!" you shout, trying to stop the inevitable awkwardness of the situation, "Also, I think someone hacked my phone and laptop, so I might have to get a new one!"

The second of stunned silence is too palpable in the room as you try your best to fake a concerned face. Yukino and Paula's wide eyed and almost shocked expressions are eyeing you down for any sign of movement.The sweat on your brow drops to your nose before Paula speaks up again.

"He's gonna do what?!", Paula exclaims, almost making Yukino jump, "What the hell does that idiot think he's doing after he pulled that superhero stunt not a week- Wait, hacked what are-"

"He contacted me today about it," you interrupt, "Silvia and Claire-"

"W-wait, hold on a minute," she requests, shaking her hand in a frantic stop motion, "the thing with Kurtis can wait until the meeting, but what's this about your stuff getting hacked? How do you know that-"

"I don't know, and that worries me more," you sigh, taking a slumped seat on the sofa, "but after that alien appeared in my room, I can't say I haven't been more paranoid. I don't even know who it could be...the feds, the police, the aliens...god this is all so confusing..."

"There was an alien in your room?" Yukino asks, and you nod a dejected 'yes', "What was it even doing there? Was it looking for something or you maybe?"

"We don't really know what its intentions were," Paula admits with a pondering look on her face, "but it was going through Erick's computer before it left. It also took a police database key that I lent Erick in the past, though there's no record of it being reported back at the station."

"But why would it just take the key though?" you reply, trying to come up with an answer, "If that alien was working with the feds or the police and wanted incriminating evidence, then it would have-"

The answer finally hits you like a planet destroying asteroid. Your eyes go wide and you quickly rush out of the living room and head to the kitchen. The girls are right behind you, and find you pulling out your suit, and your weapons. You quickly lay your X-rifle on the table, making sure that it still works by pressing the first trigger. After the weapon and its screen lights up, Paula puts a hand your and gives you a serious look.

"Erick, calm down," she says, and you try to ease your breathing as she looks at you, "now, slowly and surely, tell me what you're thinking here. You're scaring me a little."

"It all makes sense though," you reply, looking down at the gun, "it was the one thing we overlooked throughout the whole thing. If this gun is still here, along with my suit and my laptop, then that alien must be..."

Either this or throw us off real hard, but I'm sticking with this one. Second choice is retarded, because if it wanted evidence destruction, it would have done it by the time we got there. Someone is in on everything, and is working with the aliens for some reason - or its the other way around where the aliens are working FOR the mystery person.

"That alien must be working for an individual," you conclude, "Someone who must have given it specific instructions, and could be working with the aliens. Or worse, the aliens could be working for them."

"Erick..." Paula says, rubbing her temples a little, "I get you're paranoid about this but I think it's a little early to start going into complete theoreticals right now. We don't even know what that thing wanted to begin with, so how can we assume it's working for someone?"

"What about Rick?" you start, earning a puzzle look from Paula, "He's been on our backs since the gas main explosion, and you know he's willing to do more than just sit around. Who's to say that he's not in this whol-"

"Because he stopped the investigation," Paula interrupts, causing you to stop your train of thought, 'I meant to tell you about it earlier since it pertained to Allie as well. He's no longer looking into you because Allie is going to talk about her involvement in Gantz."

"Wait...what?!" Yukino exclaims, surprising even herself a little, "I'm sorry...but how can she do that? There's no way that she could-"

"She made a deal with Rick," Paula replies, looking over to you, "In that, she wanted the investigation on you to stop if she confessed to Gantz. I tried to stop her but...she considered it an even trade after what she did, to both you and me."

"Her confessional hearing is going to be on Sunday," Paula continues, "she told me that she would not mention the names of anyone in our group. I confirmed with Dante on it as well, and that if she decided on it, that only her life would be taken."

"She's taking one for the team...", you blankly say, and then pound your fist onto the kitchen table, "That noble, stupid bitch. I guess she was right at the end...this is all some fucked up conspiracy..."

A small ring on your phone interrupts the moment. You quickly snatch it from the table and answer with perhaps too brusk of a 'Who is it?".

"Whoa there Erick," Dante replies from the other line, "Chill man, just calling to let you know that I'm heading over to that new training spot. Chris is joining us too by the way, but says he wants to talk before we get started."

"Got it, we'll meet you guys in 30," you reply, and then finding out you have 20 min to get to the warehouse, "and tell Chris that I still want that answer he owes me. Alright, bye."

A frustrated sigh escapes from your mouth as you end the call and put the phone in your pocket. Without missing another beat, you move to your dufflebag and start taking out your suit.

"Get changed," you say, without looking at Yukino or Paula, "We're leaving in 2 minutes."

The two of you part almost out of slight fear as you head to Ulrich's room to get changed. All the while, the thoughts on Allie and that idea of an individual controlling that alien continue to swirl in your head. Whether it was true or not, you felt this situation would get much worse.

<April 26th, Thursday 5:00 PM>

"Why does it have to be just one person?" Yukino starts, earning another crease on your brow, "It could be an organization or a group of aliens or something. It just seems weird that aliens would listen to humans, they don't seem all that friendly from our other encounters."

This had been the drive to the warehouse for a while now, as Yukino had begun to poke holes into the theory and into part of your patience. Paula didn't even seem keen on stopping her, probably since she knew that there was no point with Yukino, but perhaps because she also wanted to know if your theory was as solid as you made it seem. Yukino probably wasn't doing it on purpose, but it was getting irritating considering that there probably bigger issues at hand.

"I never said the theory was perfect," you reply, thankfully spotting the lakeside warehouse, "but it made sense at the time given some of the other thoughts going in my head. Besides, it's better than having no explanation for what is going on right now."

"Well...of all the parts of your theory," she replies, putting a finger to her noggin, "that thing about it being under specific instructions sounds like the most likely. As to what the reasoning behind it, I don't think we'll know soon honestly..."

You come up to the far fence of the warehouse and park your car near left corner. After retrieving your stuff from the trunk, the three of you head to the front and spot Dante and Chris near the front padlock. Dante waves the three of you 'hello', but Chris doesn't even turn to look to you. More cars pull up to the exterior bank of the river, in all you count at least 3 without your own. Kurtis's truck stops right next to the fence, and Carol pops out of the side while carrying a backpack and what look like flashlights. Maria's SUV parks near Kurtis's own, and not only are the girls there but also a smiling Tanjeet that has three sets of gym bags on his shoulders. The group approaches you and the others to the front of the warehouse, all waving their greetings to each other.

"So, Erick," Kurtis is the first to speak, "You ready to show the guys their new digs? I made sure to bring a bit of stuff here before we started, since I still have my own key."

"You own this place?" Maria says, looking over the warehouse, "Looks a little...worn..."

"Yeah, how are we supposed to train in this shithole?" Chris interjects, looking at you, "You fucking with us Erick?"

"Cool it man," Dante chastises, "Besides, weren't you the one that wanted to see what Erick could do?"

"Tsk, whatever," Chris replies, folding his arms and leaning on the wall, "Just get this gate open and do whatever it is you guys do."

'Thing is though, should we start now?'

Also,Allie is pretty smart, she knows she ain't gonna tell shit because guntz will teleport her to a mission before sunday. We shouldn't worry, that or she values exposing the truth more than her like, which is plausible since exposing guntz was her only life goal and she is pretty insane

Or the most likely scenario and what she kinda expects to happen is that once she comes to confess everything about gantz, she will be teleported in the middle of eye witnesses and then the police officer questioning her will be teleported just like how she was when she cconfronted Erick about it.

You turn your head to Chris with a serious expression, perhaps trying to psych him out. He takes notice and immediately returns back your gaze with some added anger. There's a slight silence in the group as this goes on for a few seconds and everyone holds their breath for what could be conflict at the start. You however, close your eyes, let out a small sigh and motion to Kurtis to get the doors opened.

"Get everyone inside," you command, not taking your eyes off of Chris, "start cleaning up the place and get some of our targets set up. I think Chris would like to have a heart to heart before we start."

Kurtis gives you a worried look but then nods in agreement and starts unlocking the gate. You can hear some of the others complaining about the cleanup, particularly Maria, but they enter with Kurtis nonetheless. Paula and Carol are the last to go in, with the latter giving Chris a dirty look before heading inside. It doesn't break Chris's gaze on you however, and you take a few steps forward towards him.

"Alright, we can discuss with or without Dante if you want," you say, giving a quick look at Dante standing besides Chris, "it doesn't matter to me honestly. I'm just worried about what you're gonna ask, given that you still owe me answer from our previous talk."

"Funny thing about that," Chris replies, taking a step forward to match your own, "I think Dante wants to tell you something before I do. Given your current situation, right?"

"Step back a piece," Dante says, almost slamming an open palm on Chris's chest and he gruffly complies, "now, Erick, there's been somethings that we dug with Mr. Bowery's help. Though...there's good news and bad news..."

"I'll take anything to be out of the dark right now," you respond, then earning a worried look from Dante, "you know what, start with the good news. I think I need some after all this paranoia."

"Well, to start," Dante continues, sighing in relief, "You're not under investigation. In fact, I don't think you were ever under any government or federal watchlist as far as Bowery's contacts are concerned."

You almost want to jump to the heavens with relief, yet the haze of confusion begins to build on Dante's last words. You nevertheless you can't help to utter a small 'Thank God,' before Dante cuts you off.

<Continued>

"Don't get excited yet," Dante starts again, with that worried look returning, "as far as Bowery knows, the letter and warrants were never sent by an FBI source or any government organization dealing with cyber crime or domestic terrorism. He even went as far as run it to head of homeland security, and he clarified it to him that no such investigation was carried out."

"What...?" you reply in disbelief, "But...they said a search would be carried out within this week? How can it be an official warrant from the FBI if they aren't even involved?"

"We don't know," he responds, "these kind of documents aren't open to the public, and are next to impossible to forge. He also ran it for fingerprints through a CSI friend of his, and they couldn't even find a trace. As far as we know, this thing is official but

"Ok.." you sigh, trying to keep your mind from spiraling in confusion from all of the new information, "so...what does this mean then? Is someone actually trailing me, is this a prank or-"

"Oh who the fuck cares?" Chris interrupts, his arms folding in frustration, "You're not on a list, end of story. Now, are you gonna ask me your question or not?"

Dante gives Chris an annoyed look but doesn't go to stop him from his request. You figure he's probably being polite, but you can tell he's not gonna put up with much more of Chris's outbursts if he can help it.

"Last time I remember," you start, looking over to him, "I expected an answer for what you told your father. Unless you've forgotten already."

"Who knows man," Chris states, throwing his arms behind his head, "all I know is that you wanted to cash in a favor. Well, ask away or I might just forget I even gave you this much, Erick."

'Fine, have it your way.'

"What's that timer mean?," you start, and Chris's eyes narrow in response, "On the night you came back, even though we didn't do anything with it, something like a timer was there. Do you know anything about it?"

Chris's face twitches in response, a motion that urges a disgusting grin on his face. The rest of his face follows suit, contorting to match his overjoyed (?) expression. Then, he laughs a long, drawn out, almost mocking laugh that almost draws Dante's ire again. He stops abruptly, before Dante does do something, and then looks at you with that same grin as before.

"Holy shit, you can't possibly be serious," Chris almost exclaims in joyous surprise, "it showed you the countdown? Man, you must have either pissed off that thing or made it really happy at some point."

"Stop screwing around," Dante commands, stomping on the ground to get Chris's attention, "you said the same shit to me when I asked. Just answer the question already Chris, what is that timer?"

"What is it?" he replies, then stretching out his arms to the side, "It's the end of the fucking world man! As in, the moment that timer ends, we're pretty much dead and in the ground or space or dust or whatever else happens."

An air of worry begins to creep into you and probably Dante as well. He almost flinches at the news, yet soon afterwards goes up to Chris and grabs his shoulders and puts him against the wall. You go to his side to try and make sure he doesn't get too violent, or Chris for that matter, but Chris's laughter just continues through it.

"I told you to stop fucking around!" Dante states, his brows furrowing in impatience and anger, "It's always a damn joke to you isn't it? This shit could be something important and you start lyi-"

"I'm not lying numb-nuts," Chris replies between laughs, "It's what Joshua, our old leader, said before his pussy ass ditched us! He was an asshole but he was scared enough of it in planning to leave the room. Said that 'It won't matter in a few months or so. I may as well enjoy my time without this game before the end of the world.'"

"Thing is," Chris continues, then looks at you, "he was right, very much right. I don't plan on leaving the game like his coward ass, but why should I have to worry anything if the world is going to end in a few months? In fact, you should all see this as an opportunity! Do what you want, fuck who you want, and enjoy every moment because holy fucking Christ is it going to-"

You don't listen to anymore of this and you punch Chris out of Dante's hold. He doesn't retaliate, or even shout in anger, as his step brother is thrown to the floor from the impact. Chris himself is stunned out of his rant, as he flails around trying to get up. You can see a small bit of blood coming from his lip as he gets up. +1/2 Trust (Chris Bowery)

"Snap out of it!" you shout, almost making Dante flinch, "It's always the same psychotic shit with you. I don't know what the hell happened to you Chris, but I am not going to tolerate your da-"

"Go to hell Erick!", Chris shouts back, slowly getting up, "I told you what you wanted, and now you want to fucking lecture me? If you had see the BULLSHIT that came before you, you would be on my damn side!"

"I am on your side you asshole," you retort, trying to psych yourself up for a possible fight, "thing is though, I don't think you are anymore. You're trapped."

"You don't know shit Erick!" he interrupts, slowly making his way towards you, "And even if you did, you would never understand it. So, what's the point in doing anything about it if the world is going to end?!"

"Because I think you care in the end," you state, tell Dante to back off as he was starting to get closer to Chris, "I think, you're turning into this Joshua you hate so much. You said said he was a coward for giving up and leaving, well I think you're a coward for acting the way you are!"

There are no more words from Chris as he lunges at you and you see the suit under his clothes activate. The muscular portions and bulges almost tearing his clothes apart, as he reaches out for your head. Even with the suit, he is unhinged and reckless and you easily sidestep and trip him to the ground again. His head impacts the road with a crack, but the suit manages to keep him from bleeding. He turns to you again, but this time you're right on top of him.

"The way I see it," you say, as he starts struggling, "you're scared. Not of the game or dying, but of becoming that man, that coward that left before."

"You say you won't leave the game?" you ask, Chris's breathing gets a little heavier as you do, "That nothing matters anymore? You are wrong Chris."

"Because I think, even you know there's still someone that matters," you continue, looking at Dante, "Even if you're hurt, you still have one person that cares for you. So, maybe you should at least care for him."

Chris's face contorts into a hurt, almost regretful expression as you finish your little speech. Though, this lasts for less than a second as his regular angry expression returns. He pushes you off with force and you ready yourself to retaliate, but he just moves past you, without saying a word back to Dante's car. Dante doesn't say anything, and just goes after Chris, though you can tell he's concerned rather than angry.

"Hey Erick," a female voice says, and you turn to see Maria at the doors, "Kurtis is doing his best, but you mind helping out? Also, what was going on out here, I heard you guys shouting and-"

"It was nothing," you lie, then head towards the doors, "I'll help out, but the others are going to need a bit."

<CRITICAL FAILURE>
<Warehouse Cleanup: 25%>
-1 WIL, -1 Trust (Maria, Silvia, Claire)

<April 26th, Thursday 6:00 PM>

"FUCK!!", a shout of pain emanates throughout the warehouse as everyone rushes to the source. Near the back wall, you spot Maria's crew huddling around her as she clutches a bleeding arm. You can see a bleeding gash on it and a bloody, broken piece of coiled metal lying now at her side. While this kind of gore wasn't anything new, no one but Tanjeet seemed to any less at ease by it. Though even his face is full of worry as he rushes to her side with one of the bags you saw him carry in.

"Maria, what happened?!" you ask, as Tanjeet takes out a spare shirt from the bag and tears of a piece of it, "I told you guys to just do the collecting, not actually pry stuff out of the pile-"

"Oh, shut up Erick!" Maria shouts at you, with tears in her eyes as Tanjeets starts wrapping the cloth around her arm, "You never said how fucked all of junk was from the start. Hell you, never even said that you were having us do this to begin with!"

"Yeah Erick, what gives," Silvia adds, and Claire finishes the thought, "We came here to train, not pick up trash for you. You weren't even in here for the first part of the clean-up either! Some leader you are!"

"Hey that's enough," Paula shouts, stepping in between the two girls, "Erick, nor any of us knew what could have been in this junk. Now, either help Tanjeet or get back to your job because we are not having this discussion right now."

The twins just huff in frustration but go to Maria's side to aid Tanjeet in treating Maria. After Paula's exchange with the twins, the others disperse to their assigned tasks. Only you and Paula remain to oversee Tanjeet in his treatment, all the while Maria and the twins avoid eye contact with you and Paula. After a few minutes of cutting off circulation, cleaning and make-shift bandaging, Tanjeet lets go of Maria and has Silvia and Claire carry her out of the warehouse, and he approaches you soon afterwards.

"I did what I could, but that's not a nice cut," he says, shaking his head, "I'm going to have to get her to a hospital in case that gets worse. Sorry Erick, but you know, Hippocratic oath and everything."

"No, that's fine," you reply, a glum look overtaking your face, "Just make sure they're alright. And let them know that I am sorry, I shouldn't have hand them carry the metals on their own."

He nods and then heads out of the warehouse, taking the girls' bags with him. You sigh in frustration and regret as you look a the splotch of blood where Maria once was. This is all your fault, and that damn timer's...Paula heads to your side and places a hand on your shoulder out of sympathy. It only partially works in getting your spirit up, as you look to the others still trying their hardest to clean up, but with 5 members down...it won't be easy.

"Everyone stop what you're doing," you shout, and the others almost immediately stop, "New plan, because I don't want to have any more big accidents handling this. Everyone to my side, and follow my lead."

You move towards one of the dufflebags stored up near the warehouse entrance. You hear the others trudging through the junk, as you open one of the bags and pull out an X-Rifle. You don't wait for the others to respond as you fire it off into the nearest pile of junk nearby, a strew of concrete and wooden remains. A few seconds later, the pile explodes into dust and small splinters leaving nothing of the main portion intact.

"We can make up for lost time using the guns," you state, turning to everyone, "grab one, shoot and we can just clean up the remains right afterwards. And, we get a bit of shooting practice in as well."

"Good idea Erick, but," Carol speaks up, a worried look on her face, "wouldn't this go much faster with other equipment? It's less dangerous to pick up the remains but-"

"We still have these," Paula says, pulling out a pair of the gauntlets from the bag, "I only have mine and Yukino's pair, but they should be useful in dealing with this much junk. Though, I don't remember which side pulls and pushes things..."

"I'll let you borrow mine Carol," Yukino states, earning an almost embarrassed look from Carol, "It's alright, I need to get better at shooting the other guns anyways."

Carol looks like she's about to say something, but decides against and just nods a 'thank you' to Yukino. Meanwhile, Kurtis and Dante don't object to your plan but both sigh in somewhat worry at what else could go wrong here. Regardless, you lead them up in taking care of the junk, which you hope can be finished tonight...

<BARE SUCCESS>
<Warehouse Cleanup: 50%>

<April 26th, Thursday 9:00 PM>

The amount of junk seems almost endless as you and the others keep shooting into the junk yet it only seems to create more pieces for you to clean up. Things like cardboard, wood and concrete seems to be destroyed safely enough, yet the amount of pieces they leave behind only makes this more difficult to put away. Meanwhile things like metal, plastics and glass only seem to shatter into very dangerous fragments that you figured that only the rifles could handle at a safe distance. It is monotonous, and trying work that doesn't seem to do all that much to clear out the area.

The only ones that seem to be doing well are Carol and Paula with the gauntlets. Whatever force is in those gloves is strong enough to push and lift several pounds of the trash in the warehouse at a good distance. And since they don't actually fire any ammunition, there are no shards or shrapnel to really worry about for them. Though, as good as those gauntlets were, they were still just two people against what seemed like an ocean of trash and junk.

By the time night fell and the lights started to get dim on the windows, you decided to call it for the day. The last of the trash was put on some of the dumpster bins outside, and the others gathered around the entrance for a debriefing. Looking back inside to the warehouse however, you saw that you had made at least a dent in the main issue. The whole endeavor had cost you the training session and probably Maria's party time on Friday, but you had least made part of the warehouse serviceable.

"The way I see," Dante says, leaning against the warehouse wall, "We can probably start safely training in there with the space we made. But, I don't think more than six or five people can train in there with the space we got."

"We can always come back and clean more," Paula sighs in exhaustion, then looks at you, "thing is though, I don't know if those three are coming back to help clean anymore. Forcing them may be more trouble than its worth too."

"I'll...see what I can do," you reply, then start thinking on what you actually CAN do, "probably apologize for lack of foresight first and maybe make it up to them. Hopefully, they won't ask for anything too expensive..."

"Well, it's up to you man," Kurtis adds, pulling up his own bag, "Those three aren't the brightest but if you say they fight as well as I hear, then it's probably worth it. Anyways, unless you've got anything else to say, I think I'll start heading out now..."

'I've got a bit of time, may as well...'

"Paula," you say, as the others begin to head back to their cars, "take Yukino back to the car and wait for me for a bit. I got to settle something with Kurtis alone before we leave."

"Alright, don't take too long," she replies, and does as you instruct with Yukino right beside her. As they move away, you catch up to Kurtis as he readies his and Carol's bags in the back. Carol herself is heading to the side seat when you arrive calling for Kurtis's name.

"Listen, we need to talk," you start, catching Carol's attention as well, "alone. And preferably away from the car."

"Erick what's goin-" Carol interjects, but Kurtis raises a hand for her to stop.

"It's alright, wait in the car," he says, and Carol worriedly complies, "this won't take too long anyways."

You lead Kurtis away from the vehicle and towards the far fence of the warehouse, where the structure overlooks the lake. Had this been under better circumstances, you would have noted this area as being surprisingly scenic at night given the moon's reflection.

"I get the feeling that I know where this is going already," Kurtis states, looking at you near the fence, "so, before you start, let me just say that I am not doing this to cause trouble Erick. I'm taking more precautions when I head out this time so they don't see me doing things now."

"For as insightful as that was," you begin, slightly impressed he knew what you train of thought was, "I think you're missing the point here Kurtis. It's not a matter of 'if you're spotted', it's more of a matter of what you're already doing."

"Gantz doesn't care if people see you at this point," you continue, with your voice getting a little commanding, "they already saw you once and know what you can do. If you keep garnering public attention, it could start putting everyone in danger Kurtis."

"You don't understand Erick," he continues, taking a deep sigh, "I need to help them, because of Carol. Because of me."

"What does she have-" You start, but Kurtis quickly interjects.

"She's the reason as to why I did it," he quickly replies, looking down at the ground, "I am sure she's the girl I couldn't save. The one I just walked away from when she was in danger, out of fear for myself and my own stupid life. I have to make up for what I've done Erick."

"Kurtis..." you want to retort, but you speak something else out of similar regret, "the past shouldn't hold you chained man. Even if it was like that, I am sure you've already made up for it. You have to stop..."

"Then help me bust Allie out," Kurtis almost shouts, looking at you with conviction in his eyes, "who knows what they're doing to her in there. And if she talks about Gantz to the police, we could all be in danger as well. Please Erick, help me and I will stop with my routine."

'Well, that's a convenient segway.'

+1/2 Trust (Kurtis Yates)

"Christ..." you sigh, out of both frustration and worry, "Alright, fine, I will help. But, you have to swear on your life that you stop right after this, as well as tell Carol about this as well."

"Thank you Erick," Kurtis replies with a smile, "I swear to you that I will stop. Now let's figure out a way to-"

"Ok, before even start on this," you interrupt, waving your hand to signal Kurtis to stop, "there's a couple of things you should know about what's going on. As well as some conditions that I want us to keep in our minds before we do ANYTHING, alright?"

Kurtis's smile deflate a little but his expression seems calm enough. If anything, at least he's not looking to reject your upcoming plan.

"I found out from Paula that Allie is cooperating with the police," you start, earning an almost shocked expression from Kurtis, "Paula and myself figure she might be trying to play the police on this one. Or offering herself as a sacrificial lamb, but either way Allie says she will tell them everything."

"The hearing for her testimony will be this Sunday," you continue, and Kurtis continues to become more anxious, "so, if we are not called for a mission before that, we can try to bust her out Sunday morning but not anything before that. If we are called out to a mission, then she'll arrive back in the room and we'll have to find out a way of hiding her until the police give up their chase."

"Leave it to me," Kurtis states, a serious expression etched on his face, "I'll keep her safe when we return, so don't worry nothing about that. I don't know how we'll continue, since I lost my job but-"

"Look we can discuss finer details at a later time," you interrupt, then give Kurtis a sympathetic look, "but, I can try to always help you look for something new. Considering you died on my watch, it's the least I could do for you man."

"Thanks Erick," Kurtis says again, "you still want to help this much, even after I defied you like I did. I can live off my pension for a week or so, before that bitch of a land-lady starts hollering at me to get out."

"It's a deal then," you add, offering your hand in a shake which Kurtis takes, "I'll discuss things with Paula first, and try and see if she can help with floor plans or something. I get the feeling she might be a little apprehensive about helping us break into her office space."

Kurtis laughs at the last portion, and you share a laugh as well with him. There is a bit of worry in your agreement, mainly in actually acting upon your promise on Sunday, but you feel happy that you managed to diffuse a potentially damaging situation. After your shake, you and Kurtis return to your cars. Paula and Yukino welcome you back as you start the car and depart for Yukino's home.

"So, what did you talk about?" Yukino asks, and Paula tries to reprimand her for prying, but you reply back, "Kurtis has agreed to stop being a hero on his off time, in return for us helping him break Allie out."

"Erick...", Paula says, almost disappointed until you give her a worried look that disarms part of her worry, "...alright, what do you need me to do. And please tell me you have a back-up plan...I can only help so much..."

"I still need to come up with a Plan A honestly," you jokingly say, only earning a frown from Paula, "but, we can start by getting a bit of the layout of the police HQ. Don't you have any floor plans or security camera locations that you can dig up?"

"I mean..." Paula responds, then exhales in worry, "I can ask one of the technicians or custodian officers to get me the plans. Though...I don't know what kind of excuse I'll have to give for getting those without rousing suspicion."

"Guess it just shows that we both need to think more on this," you state, and notice several raindrops starting to fall on your windows, "I'll be honest, I don't even know how we're going to pull this thing off. Only a few people in the group have cloaking, one which is probably not too happy to help right now..."

"Don't worry Erick, I got your back," Yukino responds, giving you a sympathetic look, "But that's only if a hunt doesn't come around. If we get called to a mission around Saturday, we won't have to worry about it Erick."

"Yeah..." you sigh, turning on your windshield wipers, "I hope it turns out like that."

<April 26th, Thursday 9:30 PM>

The three of you arrive to the Bader Condominiums not a few minutes before Yukino's dad arrives. Thankfully the time discrepancy gave the three of you enough time to put away your remaining gear. Regardless, Yukino's dad is a little surprised to see Paula as she never really agreed to have her show up for the day. Though, after a bit of talk on how the day went, Ulrich decides to have the two of you leave in order to have a bit of time to talk to his daughter. Given what you heard from Yukino, you don't object to his wishes, but you nevertheless tell Paula after she asks what he means by that.

"It's horrible something like that had to happen to a child", Paula states, as the two of you head out the condo, "same thing for Ulrich, considering what he did even if he was as a criminal back then. They deserve to be happy after so much."

"I know,", you reply, quickly opening the car door and then Paula's to ward off the rain, "so much of what she said at the museum reminded me of myself as well. That feeling of loneliness and defensive barrier to people, just because I didn't want to get hurt..."

"It's in the past now Erick," Paula responds, and places a hand on your own, "but it's something I am sure you both realized you couldn't do alone. Now, let's head home, this rain isn't making things any less gloomy..."

You nod in agreement and hit the accelerator towards your apartment.

After Paula and yourself finish bringing in your bags into the apartment, the two of you decide that it would probably be a good idea to turn in early for the night. In spite of your best efforts however, you couldn't really convince Paula to a mixed shower session and was now currently stuck on the sofa slightly soaked from the rain and looking through news reports.

"From what we understand," one of the FOX newscasters reports over some very familiar crime footage, "the mysterious individual behind the secondary assault in Franklin st. seems to be operating alone. There is currently not bio-metric data, except for the eyewitness accounts that detail this figure as being male with a fit build."

"Though not fully confirmed," the footage switches to another crime scene were a man appears to have been tied to concrete with another stop-sign, "We also believe this person may be responsible for the assault case yesterday in North Alexandria. Given the non-lethal method employed by this person we can-"

The report is interrupted by a text on your phone from Tanjeet. You got to pick it up, only for a text from Kurtis right afterwards.

<Hey Erick. Good news on Maria, her arm is taken care of and she'll only need to stay the night. I let Silvia and Claire know that I'll keep her company for the night, since I have to wake up here tomorrow anyways. Also, I want to ask if you want to come to that party thing with them tomorrow, since I am still a little...new to it. What do you say man?>

<Erick, I just want to say that I am eternally thankful for helping a friend out. I didn't head out tonight, so check the news tomorrow for another vigilante report if you don't believe me. Also, may need your help to talk to Carol at a later time. I don't know how she's going to take it once I let her know I was the reason she died...>

'This whole thing with Maria was a dumb accident.' you think, as you debate on what to respond, 'just hope they're willing to forgive me. Also...it always seems to come back to that night for Carol...'

The bathroom door opens up as you finish up their text messages, along with a wet, towelled Paula heading back to your room.

"Shower's all yours," she says, drying her hair with another towel, "Also, let me know when you want to finish un-packing some of this other stuff. Those boxes look kind of unseemly here you know."

You give her an 'Alright, but later', and decide to head inside to wash off the day's grime and stress. Though, you also start thinking on what to do before heading to bed.

This had to be one of the longest Thursdays of your life. Between the museum, the warehouse and dealing with revelation after revelation, it almost felt like your mind was starting to split open. This was what warm showers were good for: taking your mind off of most of life's problems and trying to figure out a way to deal with them later. After finishing up however, you picked up your phone and found both messages still on there. Though, the more you looked at them the more they felt like they were mutually beneficial. Realizing you could probably kill 2 bird with one stone, you decide to text back Tanjeet and Kurtis on a similar subject.

<Yes man, I'm okay with going. Need to take a load off anyways, just let me know when it'll be at since I have work tomorrow. Also, may get another person to come.>

You head over to your room to get some clothes on. It seems Paula isn't in there however. You don't pay it too much attention as you quickly get changed and finish texting the others.

<I will gladly help Kurtis. But if you're not doing anything tomorrow evening, want to head out to this part with me and Tanjeet?>

You don't wait too long, as Tanjeet is the first to respond with <10:00 PM, no big dress code but you have to know a regular there. I'll vouch for you though since Maria is heading me up as well.>.

You quickly thank Tanjeet on the time, and after Kurtis predictably asks when it is, you fill him in on it as well. He responds with a <Sure, see you then. Though, don't let me drink any liquor there, alright?>

"What you doing there?" Paula's voice chimes in next to you, almost startling you with how silent she was.

"Texting some of our friends," you reply, then thinking of another idea, "Hey, you wouldn't have to come too, ri-"

"Sorry Erick, I got work tomorrow evening," she quickly responds, rolling to the other side of the bed, "Also, what is that thing on your computer in the kitchen? Someone stalking you again?"

A light goes off in your head as you quickly get off of the bed and head over to the kitchen. Paula is right behind you, asking more on what is going on, but you ignore it and turn on the computer again. It quickly dawns you that you should probably install a password on that thing again. Sure enough though, the thread you made now has a few dozen hits on it. Some of them are regular shitposts, others state that 'we're not your personal army OP', but there are two that show a name and address on them.

"You know," Paula states, looking over your shoulder, "If you're looking for a bad guy, you could have just asked for help. What did he to get on your bad side?"

"Yukino wasn't bumped when she died," you start, then point to the screen, "She was pushed by someone. Claire saw it, and this guy here is the one she saw doing it."

"The fall from the second floor..." Paula almost whispers, shock reverberating in her voice, "I thought she said the guy was old or fat or something like that. Is Claire sure this is the same guy?"

"I don't know, but only Claire mentions he pushed Yukino off," you state, looking over the names, "If one of them is making a mistake, I at least want to make sure with this guy first. I would have told you earlier, but with so much happening in the day..."

"Say no more, I get it," Paula replies, nodding in understanding, "I'll get the photo from your computer and see what I can dig up on this guy. I won't try to stop you if you keep investigating, but please don't get in over your head again Erick...I don't think you want more people tailing you as is."

You nod in reply and let Paula download the image to her phone. She departs for the bedroom, and you're left alone with your laptop and the two possible names and addresses from the posts.

"Gregory Kingsley, 425 Mass near H Street...", you state, trying to get them memorized, "and Patrick Wallace, at the Stateman. Who is this person...?"

You tried to look over the thread for more information, but soon realized that there were no updates after the last few. You don't waste much more time on the computer however, and head back to your room, climbing into the bed space right next to Paula. Given the amount of things that you went through today, and are still experiencing to some degree, you let Paula and yourself sleep well tonight.

<April 27th, Friday 8:00 AM>

You wake up the following morning to a refreshing sight of Paula at your side, sleeping like a baby. While you don't know anything about patrol schedules for the police, you figure that even they get to sleep in at times. You don't waste any time however, and head to get a change of clothes after picking up your phone. Soon afterwards, you head out to the kitchen think of making breakfast for the house. For all of bravado yesterday, you actually just wish to have a good morning for once, even if it does seem to be too good to be true.

"Still though..." you think, looking over your pantry, "What to make for a Friday morning...?"

<April 27th, Friday 8:30 AM>

"Hey Erick..." Paula yawns, rubbing her eyes to better see the delicious spectacle in front of her, "...hey, you making breakfast here? You know, you could have woke me up and I could have helped, you know."

"Figured I'd do something selfless like this for a change," you reply, setting up the last parts of the table, "though, you can consider it as a thank you for offering to help find that guy last night. Honestly though, I was really just in the mood for some pancakes."

"Heh, I always knew you were after my heart," she replies, chuckling a little as you see her pull a bottle of maple syrup from the pantry, "Just letting you know, I have to report to the station at 11:00, so I can spend a bit of time with you today if you want. Considering what's been going on, and that we don't get to sped much time together like this..."

"Sure, I think I could use the company," you respond, as Paula sits down alongside you, "I get the feeling these types of morning are going to get rarer anyways. So, let's enjoy what time we do have, at least for now."

Paula nods to you with a smile and you both start digging into you pancakes after cheering your orange juice glasses together.

<April 27th, Friday 9:00 AM>

Throughout your breakfast, you let Paula in on the timer as well. She didn't believe Chris's crazy ramblings about the end of the world for a second though. What she did believe however, was there had to be a reason as to why that timer had appeared on the ball that evening. Everything from speculation about a connection to you obtaining 100% to maybe the ball having another one of its glitches is thrown around on the kitchen table. Considering what could be happening with the hunts and the game itself, you feel that maybe the timer wasn't the strangest thing in there.

Though, you couldn't help but feel an even greater, more ominous presence from the game itself. Regardless, you and Paula only speculate so much before your breakfast is already over. After cleaning the dishes, you're reminded of something you did at the museum and you quietly sneak back to the bedroom to find your dufflebag. You pull out the two mugs you bought at the gift shop and present them to Paula, who can't help but crack a smile at how blatant the advertising is on these things. After putting the new mugs away, and making sure your keys and wallet are on you, the two of you decide to.

Yes. Maybe? I don't think it ever was the FBI that sended the letter.This sound like CIA stuff.
>>

I say FBI because we thought they were tied to this the whole time, since we figured out it could be aliens.

I dont think is the Cia too, it was the aliens, they have access or aliens infiltrated in the government to get their hands on official documents and they raided our hausw to search for stuff. Since we had the letter we were supposed to think it was an official government search

"Hey Tanjeet, we're heading down to GW," you say into your phone as you and Paula head out of the apartment, "Is Maria there with you? We want to apologize in person about what happened yesterday."

"Yeah, she's here," he replies, though you hear a bit of a commotion in the background, "I actually stepped outside to get her some breakfast, since hospital food is kind of...awful. Claire and Silvia will be there in a bit as well, so you can explain it to them as well."

"Great," you respond, your head nodding in approval, "I'll ask for you if anything comes up, alright? Anyways, I'll see you there, bye."

You don't wait for Tanjeet to respond, as you turn off your phone and start making your way towards GW University hospital. The sudden rush of speed make Paula flinch a little. You didn't mean to speed up that quickly, but part of you is beginning to worry on Maria's words from the other day, and what could happen if you didn't resolve this quickly enough.

<April 27th, Friday 10:00 AM>

Arriving and entering into George Washington University Hospital was one thing, but actually seeing someone was a bit more difficult that you had imagined. Something about non-study and non-family related visits, but it was all bureaucratic nonsense as far as you were concerned. Try as you might, you just had to wait for Tanjeet to arrive so they could give you the go-ahead. Though, you had to help him carry bit of McDonald's breakfast up to Maria's room, something that was apparently frowned upon in hospital according to Tanjeet.

"Can we come in?" Tanjeet says, tapping on the door of room 302, "I got breakfast, and I brought a few friends to see you. I swear this time, there are no more doctors behind me this ti-"

The sound of a lock unlatching and a small green light shining from the door gives Tanjeet the indication to open up. The three of you head inside of the surprisingly ample room, to see Maria laying on a patient bed. Her normally luscious locks are slightly unkempt, her eyes a little bloodshot, and her right arm is covered in a big, white bandage.

"Wait, I thought Claire and Silvia were coming," Maria states, a bit of annoyance in her voice, "What are they doing here? The party is one thing but-"

"Look, we're here to apologize and make up for what happened," you interrupt, earning a narrowed look from Maria, "I realize I made a big mistake in the warehouse. So, please let us at least try to make it up to you, alright?"

"Oh really?" she replies, cocking her head in an expectant manner, "I think eight stitches costs a lot more than a few words Erick. How do you think one making it up?"

"How about free drinks tonight?" you state, raising one of Maria's brows, "and you can pick out our next training session, since I fucked up on the last one I chose. How does that sound?"

Maria doesn't answer for a few moments, instead only drawing a silence with a pondering expression on her face. Her gaze wanders throughout the room for a bit, probably thinking on what to say, until it returns back to you with an expectant smile.

"Alright, you're on Erick," Maria finally responds, that smile growing into a smirk, "you can keep the offer for the training session place, since I don't really know any good places for it. I'm a light drinker, but I have a taste for quality over at Heists."

"Y-yeah, I figured that," you reply somewhat worriedly, making Maria a little more smug in the process, "You don't mind if Kurtis joins us for it, right?"

"Sure, whatever," she says, then looks at Paula, "What about you Paula? You a fellow chola, girl? I bet you can tear up a night scene when the police aren't looking."

"Thanks but I actually have patrol tonight," Paula replies, and then moving up to Maria's bed with an equally smug smirk, "but for the record, no one calls me a chola unless they're ready to step up as well. Got me, chica?"

Maria's smirk almost beams from her face at Paula's reply, though you can't tell if it's from fear or genuine happyness. You've seen Paula angry, but few times you've seen her try to intimidate someone. It doesn't last long, as Tanjeet sets up the breakfast items near Maria's bed tray and asks Paula to let her eat, earning a 'Thank you' from Maria.

She only manages to put her fork in a piece of sausage, before Silvia and Claire enter the room as well, and immediately start pointing fingers at you and Paula.

"Hey, what are you doing here?!" Silvia exclaims, and Claire follows up, "I hope you came to apologize Erick, because we're not forgiving you for yesterday. At least, not that easily or whatever you think you may be doing here."

"They're cool don't worry guys," Maria says, "he already making it up to me so-"

"Hey wait, what about us?!" Silvia claims, with Claire finishing her thought, "Yeah, you screwed us over yesterday as well Erick. Cleaning up a warehouse and all that..."

"Alright fine," you interject, earning both of their attentions, "but, you get two free drinks. The open bar is only for Maria, since she was the one that got hurt. Now-"

"What?!" Claire exclaims first, and Silvia continues the thought, "You gave Maria free drinks?! What gives Erick, that's total bull-"

"Will both of you shut up?!" Maria interrupts the two, almost making the two girls jump, "This is a hospital, not your damn dorm room. Now quiet down count your lucky stars Erick even let you have something."

"B-But...it's no fair," Claire replies, somewhat embarrassed, "You got a free ride and-"

"Yeah, I don't think anyone is giving you two free reign in a bar," Maria continues, earning a sad expression from the twins, "You two would drink you damn trust fund away if let you pick up guys. Two is more than enough for a good night anyways, and they can be whatever you want. Besides, do you two really want to get your free drinks through eight stitches on your arms?"

"Eh...I guess not," Silvia replies, and Claire continues the thought, "Yeah...sorry for blowing up there Erick. Umm...forgive that and we can say we're even, right? But those two drinks are still on you."

"Sure, no problem," you answer, then looking to Maria, "Although, I don't want us to have any problems down the line like this. So, from now on, let me know as well if I miss something, alright Maria?"

Maria shrugs, and gives you thumbs up as a response, with Silvia and the other girls repeating her actions. Tanjeet sighs in relief at the situation essentially diffusing itself and he goes to sit at one of the couches. You and Paula give Maria time to finish up her breakfast, which they intersect with some talk with Tanjeet. From what you can tell, he actually did stay the night with her into the morning, something Maria was quite thankful for. After this, Tanjeet left the room to throw out the trash, and you were left alone with the girls.

'We still got a bit of time left here.'

"Hey Maria," you start, earning her and the twins' attention, "did Kurtis fill you on the plan for breaking out Allie? I know he talked briefly with Silvia and Claire when they told him, but I need to know if you're going as well."

"He didn't but Silvia told me about it," Maria responds, then turning to Silvia, "Kurtis apparently told her that he wanted the help of anyone that had that radar thing on their suits."

"Yeah, he was calling me and Dante yesterday about it," Silvia adds, making a motion with her arms, "Said it would be much easier to break her out if we were all invisible. Also said that he need to find out where Allie's suit was, since she also had the radar thing on it."

"I have it actually," Paula quickly responds, "I put it inside of my dufflebag on the drive back to the station to keep it safe. I'll give it to you on Sunday if we don't get called out to a mission. Also, I'll get back today with a layout of the station, as well as a safe escape route in it."

"Awesome, thank you so much Paula," Silvia replies, smiling at her, "though...ain't it kind of weird that you're being so cool with this? I mean, you're a police officer right?"

"My job is to protect people," Paula states, sighing a little, "Even if...I have to bend the rules a little to do that. Allie has suffered enough for what she did, and I feel it also partly my fault she's there as well."

"Whoa" Maria says, a surprised expression on her face, "I thought all cops were just buzzkills and gun-heads...like, forgive me for thinking that about you."

"Apology accept-" Paula starts, before a red buzzer is drawn in the room. Tanjeet is in the door the moment it rings and motions to you, Paula, and the girls.

Tanjeet lets you know that they're finishing up her treatment in a bit, Maria gives him a smiling nod, and you all leave the room. Outside, Silvia clarifies part of the plan with you. The infiltration would occur at 4 AM on Sunday. Kurtis would enter in the front, while the others in the service entraces, while you would provide a distraction at the parking garage while the three of them would break Allie out of the cell. It sounded simple, but you could tell there were plenty of flaws in it already.

"Hopefully with Paula's floor plans, we can improve it," you state, with Silvia nodding yes, "Remember though, don't do anything until Sunday.This is a last resort thing. If something goes wrong, the others won't be there to bail anyone out, understood?"

"Right..." Silvia says, with a worried expression on her face, "man, this whole this is a little too real for me actually...Makes me almost want to be that lion they brought in."

"Lion...?" you ask, but Paula nudges you to let you know the time, "You know what, tell me later. We need to go, later guys!"

The twins wave you and Paula away, but that strange thought lingers in your head.

<April 27th, Friday 11:00 AM>

Since the station is close enough to the apartment, you give Paula a lift back there to freshen up before reporting to work. The drive back isn't too interesting, as Paula's concerns are more on how she's going to sneak out with floor plans, but you assure her on how to manage it. If she asks only for the actually plans as a maintenance report, then maybe she can sneak them out easily.

The idea itself wasn't really on your part though, just an old trick you learned from Walmart's assistant manager division whenever you needed to sneak out a coupon book or receipt ballot from the bosses. Paula thanks you for the idea and heads inside to get changed, while you do the same for different reasons.

"I'll be heading out for a run, alright," you say, looking over as Paula freshens up in the bathroom, "want me to pick up anything while I'm out? I'll probably take a more scenic route this time, considering it's close to lunch."

"Umm...you can just bring it back from Walmart," she responds, as you start putting on your under-armor, "Toilet paper, OJ, coffee, pregnancy test-"

"Wait, what?!" you almost shout, your eyes going wide, "Paula, don't tell me-"

You hear an approaching laugh as Paula exits the bathroom with her hair tied back. He grin on her face betrays the look of near panic on your own. It doesn't last long as you quickly catch onto her jape.

"Aahhh...just making sure you were paying attention," she replies, moving towards the front door, "just make sure to the get first three on that list. I'll probably be back late, so don't wait around for me, alright?"

She gives you a quick peck on the cheek as she exits the apartment. You sport a slightly stupefied look on your face for a few seconds after she exits. After shaking yourself awake from it, you finish up gearing up for your run and grab one of your water bottles for the trip back. Though, the lingering thought of Paula's joke sticks for you as you exit from the apartment as well.

'It's too early in the morning to give me a heart-attack girl...'

<GREAT SUCCESS>

<April 27th, Friday 12:30 PM>

Your run goes perfectly, even with a new route and scenery around you. No, it goes better because of that. Gone are the drab and old buildings near the East end of the city, along with all of the stupid routes you had to take to make up for traffic. Around here, the city seems to open up much easier, with walks that are almost clean of trash and sidewalks where people actually mind their step. If you didn't know any better, you were probably running around in Virginia again.

The way back is just as calm and collected, as every step you make seems fluid and much more powerful than the last. By the time you arrive back home, your water bottle is only half full, as the efficiency of your breathing and movement allows you keep up the pace without losing too much energy. You actually arrive back with some time to spare, and you quickly decide to reheat a bit of that Chinese takeout Paula brought in on Wednesday while you take a shower.

As bad as the combination fried rice may be for you, it is a meal will keep you filled up at work. In the shower, you continue to think on what the hell Silvia meant with that 'lion' comment. You don't linger too much on it though, considering it was probably just some story she heard in the hospital. A loud ring from the microwave draws you to the kitchen and you dig into the fried rice with an equal amount of tempo to your run. Over the last few weeks, you had improved physically, and you felt like a little more push would probably drive you to even greater heights.

After looking at your phone however, you decided to start thinking on more present matters, like your job. And then began to wonder on how much Maria was going to spend on drinks tonight...

<April 27th, Friday 1:00 PM>

You thankfully arrive on time to Walmart, and even more so as there seems to be a bit of a bottleneck occurring on the lines. Sam quickly explains that you're down five lines today, and may need to help out the grunts handle their jobs a bit better. Thank god they raised your salary...

<BARE FAILURE>
-1 INT, +1 WIL
<April 27th, Friday 9:30 PM>

There have been very few times this job has made you get legitimately angry, but the ungodly long line at the front today came very close. It wasn't just the customers with their half or completely full carts today, as someone decided to mark down prices on food and groceries today. It was more the utter incompetence of the employees working the registers today.

Apparently, you had gotten several new hires as seasonal workers in order to improve the quantity of work being done. Of course, this almost meant training them in a very short span of time, which was something that had become infuriating when you were trying to juggle the five remaining lines. You were barely able to keep up with sales on the registers, as these kids seemed to forget nearly everything you told within the span of a few minutes.

While you were barely keeping up with the customers as it was, you knew you wouldn't be able to keep it up for much longer. Calling into the reserved lines, you tapped onto Sam and some of the other assistant managers for help. While some complained about their department fields being full, the majority of them obliged and helped you and the newbies out at the registers. By the time they got there though, you were mentally exhausted by the sheer volume of things to handle. Sam gave you a pat on the back for managing to hold out that long, but he nonetheless reassigned you to another department.

Though, you were at least glad it wasn't in the front end anymore. After that however, the rest of your shift was smooth sailing, until it ended. You left with a somewhat more exhausted expression, and the items Paula assigned you to get before leaving, and hoping to god that the tech team managed to fix those registers before your shift tomorrow evening.

As you returned home however, you received two texts, one from Kurtis and another one from Tanjeet.

<Hey man, just readying up for that party. It's a club right? I heard Maria and Silvia talking a little about it, but is there like a dress-code for it and where is it?>

<Erick, just letting you know, I will be waiting for you at the door at 10 PM. If Kurtis shows up with you, I can get you both in, but just let him know to arrive on time.>

'What are the chances?' you think to yourself as you text them both back. Their responses arrive as you enter the apartment.

<Sounds a little edgy, but I'll still go. I'll get changed and meet you at the door.>

<Awesome. By the way, Claire has something to give you, but she told me to keep it a secret until you get here.>

'Wonder if it's relevant to the case with Yukino...' you think, washing your face off, "though, now I got to think what kind of scene I want to make there. Haven't been to a party in a long time...'

You hadn't been to the party scene in so long it almost felt like three years. No wait, that's exactly how long it had been actually. Those had been some of the most carefree and insane years of your life, something you came to regret not a year later after you managed to fail nearly all of your courses. And two years after your parents couldn't stand you around the house anymore and booted you out. Those were some very regretful years for you, and it was a lifestyle you swore off for a very long time.

Yet in spite of everything, you still kept your old get-up from your scene days back in university. Maybe it was nostalgia or lingering doubt of relapsing, but you had kept that old pair of ripped jeans and collared shirt combo tucked inside your wardrobe. It was currently stuck in one of the boxes, but you quickly pried it out and put it on to see a reflection of your past days. Both still fit, and despite some wear on the shirt, it was more than presentable.

"Let's do this," you say to bathroom mirror and leave through the front door. Whatever happened, you knew this was going to be a night to remember.

<April 27th, Friday 10:00 PM>

You'd never been to Heist's before, nor were you probably ever going to enter again. But given the street address you were given and the bald bouncer at the doors, you were more than sure that this was the place. Even if the lack of sign and odd wooden doors in front were a little suspect. You didn't wait long near the street entrance however, as you spotted Tanjeet and the girls arriving in what you could guess was more accustomed to a party scene. Tanjeet was the most normal wearing a similar get up to yours with without the ripped jeans. Meanwhile the twins were wearing some very high shorts with matching crop tops, while Maria was in a classy black dress with an open back.

"Erick, damn boy," Maria greets you, checking out your outfit, "you look like a model with that on. Be careful in there, some of the girls like to get touchy with something they like to see."

"Yeah, don't let Paula know what you're doing in there," Claire adds, and Silvia follows it up, "Of course, they should also know that 'No means no', and that you're already taken by a wonderful woman. Now, do you know when Kurtis is-Oh...my god..."

You and everyone else turns to see Kurtis, or the man you believe is Kurtis in the plaid open top shirt, and worn down jeans. Tanjeet and yourself just stare in awe at the sheer audacity of this man almost shirtless in his stride to the club entrance. Meanwhile the girls...stare in almost admiration for his muscular and toned physique bare contained by that shirt.

"Kurtis," you start, snapping yourself back to reality after the initial sight of that, "why are you are you dressed up like a lumberjack stripper? It...really stands out man."

"I thought you said this was a party," Kurtis replies, a grin on his face, "I'm honestly surprise you two didn't come a little bit more dressed for the occasion. Like, I know you have a girl Erick, so I can understand, but Tanjeet you really gotta play to your strengths here man."

"W-wait, what do you mean," Tanjeet stammers, trying to make sense of the situation, "like on the clothes or are you talking a-about the body? Cause...I don't think Erick or me are as...toned as you are."

"I think ripped is a better word for it actually," Claire states, going for Kurtis's right arm, "Don't worry Kurtis, neither I nor Silvia will let any of those other nasty women bother you."

"Yeah, we'll be right at your side," Silvia says, hold onto Kurtis's left arm, "keeping an eye out for any danger on the horizon."

They both giggle mischievously after their almost Shakespearean pronouncement to Kurtis. He surprisingly enough doesn't look all that phased and just welcomes the two them in his open arms. If there ever was a more alpha male than this guy, they probably weren't human at this point.

"You know Kurtis," you start, earning a look from the girls, "I actually am glad you're here now, because this means I won't get in trouble with Paula. Actually...never-mind, let's just go inside..."

The others nod and Maria leads the group from the front, with Tanjeet close to her side. After a quick exchange with the bouncer, the large balding man opens the double doors and Maria motions you all inside. Beyond the doors, the inner room looks like an prohibition era bar, complete with boarded up windows and stools stacked on the tables. Despite the decor, Maria motions you all to a staircase in the back of the room, which you all follow close-by. Upon descending down the stairs and through another black wooden door, the scenery of the past changes to some more modern.

The inside of the room is lavished with wooden or metal beam supports, leading into a massive dance hall in the center where hundreds of bodies move in sync or without it to deafening music atop a checkered dance floor. There are two bars, each spread out to opposite ends of the rectangular looking room. There are also several lounge areas, most of which seem to be taken except the one in the far back. All the while the glimmering glow of neon and golden sheen surround you and the group.

Kurtis is almost pulled by the twins to the dancefloor, while Maria just walks past you with Tanjeet to the bar.

'Shit...this is crazier than I remember.'

You make your way to the bar, following Maria and Tanjeet's trail, while also meandering through a few people making their way to the dance floor. As you approach it, you quickly begin to see that the opulent nature of the locale only seems to get grander as you approach the bar. A golden set of bullhorns hangs over the Heist logo in even more golden letters as they shine above the hundreds of bottles and glasses beneath them. Towards the middle of the bar, you spot Tanjeet and Maria looking like they're having a conversation.

"Hey Erick, saved you a seat right here," Maria exclaims between the din of the music, tapping on a stool to her right, "Also, I opened you up a tab on which my drinks will going into, so just be sure to pay it off after we finish up. We won't stay long here though, we're heading down to the dance floor in a bit."

"Don't worry too much though," Tanjeet adds, passing a glass of what looks like rum and cola, "I got you something to mull over that price Maria's got on you. Just letting you know though, it only has 3% in there, so you should still be good to drive."

"Yeah, thanks," you try to say as thankful as possible, "This place is pretty sweet, but how long do you guys usually stay in here?"

"Usually until closing time," Maria responds, waving into the air, "like 3 or 2 AM around that time. Anyways, we'll be seeing you in a bit Erick!"

Maria departs with Tanjeet to the dance-floor, and you're left alone with a single drink to your name. This was probably not how you planned for this to turn out, though that plan did involve Paula being here as well. For now though, you just sit glumly in the chair and give that glass a good hard sip.

"Is this seat taken?" asks an older woman's voice on your left, and you turn to face her. She appears thirty, with a more weathered look to her young appearance with a few bangs covering her eyes.

"Nah, all yours," you reply, taking a sip from the glass Tanjeet got you.

The woman happily obliges, sits down next to you, and orders a glass of whiskey. Judging by the speed at which downs the glass, she must be a regular here. You figure she must be some office or sales lady that probably comes here to drown her sorrows and pick up the occasional guy. You don't pay her any attention and continue to take a sip of your drink.

After you take that second sip though, you hear the heavy bottom of a whiskey glass hit the bar. And then see that whiskey glass slide towards you, with something attached to the bottom. Judging from the direction of it, you turn your head to the left and see that the lady on the stool is no longer there, nor among the crowd of people.

'She was there...right?', you think to yourself as you look around yourself, and the just return to the glass after giving up. Underneath it is a piece of paper, which you open up to reveal a single message, scrawled in black ink.

<Session End>

Alright, this will wrap up our thread. Honestly didn't think we'd need 3 parts for this one, but here we are I guess.

I will make our new thread on Wednesday around 7-8 PM for a single post update, and have our full session on Friday at 7:00 PM EST, since I will be a little busy on Saturday.

Anyways, have a good night /qst/.

Oh cool there is a NY team!!
>>
>>2659156
Thanks man, see you
>>
>>2659225
Did interteam communication happen in the manga? I remember that it kind of happened with Osaka but we cant really do that with our phones tapped right?
>>
>>2659945
>>2659156

I love the fact we are deviating from the manga, keep things fresh.

also, thanks for running man, I had to go out early yesterday because I had to wake up 4 fucking a.m. today for a job
>>
>>2659945
That we can do it? We can. But we shouldn't. Communication between the teams only happend in the game not outside of it, but i guess the other teams in the manga, were more divided and focused in single special individuals.
>>
>>2660005
Well, the QM stated before that this was an AU at some point, so this is expected. So long as the core ideas remain, we're still cool.

>>2660156
Here's hoping we can figure out what they want then...
>>
>>2660206
Most likely they are trying to figure out what Gantz is. Most lilely they might be hoping that there are teams with more experience in the game or that can provide more anwsers.
>>
>>2659149
Honestly, I'm wondering how they identified us.
