Welcome to the skirmish Everwinter company, a skirmish set in a high fantasy world where mercenaries lives are weighed in silver and adventurers in gold. You have joined a small war band named [Everwinter company] led by two former adventurers, a theurgist named Lenoy illwind, and a warrior named Nygar Tuskbreaker. After being introduced to the others, you head off under the supervision of Lenoy towards a goblin camp to flush it out.
This is a skirmish so to set some ground rules here are a few tips!
Play smart! If you feel insecure about your health don’t go charging in just because you feel confident. A reckless errant is a dead errant! :D
The game uses a intermediate direction for determining movement. If you look to the northeast of the image you will find a set of numbers labeled 1-6. These determine which hexes your char will be moving. 1 means north, 2 means north east, 3 means east, and so and and so forth.
Other than that here is the rules and lets get on with the show!

"Alright to anyone that can still read, take a look at the contract. Yes it's that much per fight, yes you can loot the bodys and keep them for yourself, no I will not heal you even though i'm a theurgist, deal with your own cuts baby's. After we're done dealing with these goblins we will head back to bolton, and there you can replace your dead men, bury our dead, hire new ones and etc. It should be a easy contract, i'll accompany you to a rock outcropping holding some goblins and hobgoblins, you'll kill some of them, kill the warlord, and that should be a good day. Good? Good now sign here and we can get started." -------Lenoy lockwood, senior theurgist and your employer.

[cantrip]: Prestidigitation: Can perform mundane tricks, light candles, create fires, small illusions etc. Useful for role playing and if your creative.
Phantasmal servant: Range 5, You wave your hands and summon a invisible force, you can direct it to fetch and gather objects, loot a comrades weapons, drag him to a nearby medic and more.
Magic missile:Range: 4 Summoning your hand you summon three rays of aether that fly towards your target. They strike and deal two [aether] damage and deal a guaranteed damage of 1.
>Minor rune: You take a moment and temporarily enchant someones weapon with the power of magic. They gain a +5 to their skill rolls with the weapon and their weapon deals an additional 1 damage. In addition it bypass any resistances that otherworldly creatures may have against mortal weapons.

Alright, reporting for duty sirs! Sorry it took me so long to get my spellbook in order.

It's alright, I will be going [fast phases] for 2 or so turns then heading back to daily phases. :V Helps when people need to coordinate whether or not to slay the warlord or heal redgy as he bleed out.

>explanation on [fast phases] Fast phases is when a skirmish Qm wants to start things off right. Usually in the terms of drawing out the first two turns before proceeding to do daily turns.

Still accepting characters, or should I wait until later?

As the group eventually makes their way to the goblin outpost Lenoy gives them a few tips along the way.
"Remember to stick to the back if your an aspirant or if your a warrior or revenant stick to the front lines where your useful. Errants do what you believe is best."
Eventually the group manages to make their way to the goblin encampment. More rock outcropping than anything Lenoy sticks to the back while the group investigates.
"You know I would be careful if i were you, they like to ambus-" He is interrupted by the sounds of rustling in a nearby bush.
*Sigh* "By the old gods" He says as a hobgoblins and goblins come into view dressed in hides and waving cruel daggers. The warlord however is still not in sight yet...

Diffrent circles can mean different things.
The ones that are clear are not armored but have blowdarts. The ones that do have markings across their circle means they have armor or may mean they are a different subclass.

This can prevent death as the regeneration kicks in after damage allowing a chance for a target to survive the blow if they are being regenerated.

You could just use the Death's Door mechanic from Darkest Dungeon.

That way you could keep the high lethality of the balance, but that may be needed to be balanced by the addition of more healing items or spells.

>>

Does rolling below apply only to [Attack]?

>>
>>2636006
It applies to some skills too, like my cooking.
>>
>>2635988
Ah ok, just figured it was better to be safe than sorry with the last two casts.
>>
>>2636006
nah it applies to skills, abilities, bonuses and more.
An example would be that [minor rune] would increase someones chance to hit by 5%.
Let's say you imbued Tilea's weapon.
Her hit chance would increase from 55% to 60% and her damage would increase by +1.
Parrying would decrease a goblins hit rate from 30% to 20%

I also miss the discord i left ;_;
>>
Also, how does a Revenant look like?
I imagine them like normal people, but everytime they come back they look more Zombie-like
Until you reach 2 life and become a Skeleton, but David seems to be a Skeleton Warrior
>>
>>2636022

Wait, so the parries were failures? There was nothing that said they failed.
>>
>>2636074
Oh no they worked, with the 10% penalty you inflicted on the enemys you managed to avoid a hit from the hobgoblin. While batter did the same to the two goblins. :V
Parry only applies a penalty to a facing of your choice you don't need to roll to determine whether or not....It's a bit hard to explain but think of parry as being able to apply a penalty to anyone attacking you from that hex face.

An example
>You prepare to [parry] a hobgoblin squad facing you from side [3]
>Hobgoblin squad now has a 10% penalty reducing there chance to hit form a 55% to a 45% they both 48 and 49 normally they would hit but due to the [parry] penalty they don't hit.
>A goblin does a ranged attack on you from side [3] so the goblin is also inflicted with the 10% penalty.

Parry can also be upgraded later to be a check versus no damage or affect 3 side, have a higher penalty etc.
>>
>>2636133
Apologies if it is confusing, I promise to mark where you are [parrying] next time.
>>
>>2636133

Oh no, it's not that I was confused on what parry did, it's that to succeed at Parrying, I had to roll High and not roll Low like with Attacking, which is what seems confusing to me.
>>
>>2636166
Oh okay, but yeah you just inflict a penalty no need to roll or anything.
(at least not until you upgrade it later)

Revenants look like normal people on the surface and until you know the signs such as looking for the pale blue flame in they're pupils, the lack of attention when it comes to they're wounds, and the telling fact that each time they have to pull themselves back from the grave they're body slowly begins to waste away until they are nothing.
Most are powered by some sort of unholy magic or strange magic that keeps them alive it may be a ritual that they were involved in before they're death, a cursed item, bloodlines, etc. Although a few have managed to keep themselves together through sheer willpower digging themselves out from they're former graves to live and breathe the fresh air of the world.

TLDR: Yes, they look like normal people and slowly fall apart each time they have to pull themselves back from the dead.

Ah-ha! So in Skitte-- Mine. In my superbly qualified opinion, this thing here is definitively an "Eldritch Beast".

Not to worry! It easy to placate. hit it a lot, but do try not to let it suck out your souls from your corporal shell. It. . .

It really hurts, okay? It's just the worst. So much pain.

The Aether fire rages on for a moment as the two new arrivals rush in from the sides as Lenoy waves them over to join the fight. His staff gazing into it as if he was preparing for something.
It feels like eternity as the fire rages on then it comes crawling into our reality causing it to bleed at the edges as a cacophony of whispers arrive with it. Some of the weaker willed mercenary's collapse as the creature begins to form.
Lenoy waits for a moment before striking his staff into the ground as the last legs of it crawl out staunching the flow if just for a few minutes as aura envelopes him and causing the ground to crack as silver light bleeds from it.

"EVERWINTER COMPANY!" Lenoy announces as he concentrates on the spell. "KILL THE BLASTED THING BEFORE I DO AND YOU'LL GET A BONUS!" He says flashing a toothy grin.

The company springs into battle as David slashes a leg off the beast while Brassheart charges the beast his axe at the ready cleaving two of it's legs off of it. Meanwhile as Tigz finishes making a potion he/she fires the arrow landing mark into the square where the potion fails to break. It can be retrieved later but another try will have to proceed.
As Skitter takes in crackles form she takes in the grim scene of another life wasted in the pursuit of glory and gold now just a lump of flesh waiting to rot. Hopefully for now a prayer to the gods may guide her soul to the heavens.
However as Skitter casts her spell her body is seized by a unknown entity causing her body to spasm and her tounge to say eldritch sayings before finally her eyes glow and she lets loose a wave that bounds the beast to the ground. Unable to act it and bound it gives a growl to the mercs as it awaits death now is just who shall strike and claim the kill first.

By my reckoning, Marcus may have slain the beast.
>>
>>2658331
Yep, proccessing :D
>>
>>2652873
Marcus is the first to strike his cantrip flying across the battlefield until it meets the limbs of one of the demon. David meanwhile plunges his blade into the skull of the beasts once, twice and over and over again until it gives a shudder before Brassheart chops off it's 'head' ending the battle once and for all.
As Batter, David, and Brassheart celeberate the death of the beast, Tilea sensing that the battle has ended takes the time to butcher one of the goblins. Although it was grisly work at first but after a bit of struggling with the goblins 'armor' she manages to butcher a few choice cuts of the green skin. The idea comes to her that with a few spices and some roasting later it could provide some much needed vitality to a soldier before the battle.
Skitterheart meanwhile studies the beast and come to the conclusion that while its mortal form may have died it's spiritual will come back if provoked again with the ritual. All at the very least that can be done now is to burn the body that will not remain a trophy many make the mistake of burying the body or leaving it to rot where it may influence the environment around it. The order of the null while it may have a obsession with fire does so with good reason at the least. Scrubbing away the sigil will only require a bit of crushed chalk and a few prayers.

>Everyone who survives gains a 'skill' and a 'self' point to upgrade they're char with.

>Skill points may be used to level up a skill, gain new weapon arts by using them to specialize in a weapon, level up base skills, gain or upgrade spells and etc.
Example: A revenant wishes to upgrade they're ability to use a short sword if they do they may choose between [fencing] which allows them a passive chance to block any attack or [Riposte] which upon causing a attack to miss they counterattack.

In addition if you do not know what to spend your skill points on here are a few general ones.
[Hardened] Each map you gain +1 health, in addition each map before you gain 1/2 health (rounded up) :V
[Adaption] Adapt to your opponent's moves! Gain an additional stacking + 8% chance to hit with each attack that misses an opponent. Bonus is reset upon landing a hit that deals damage.
[Bags and belts] You gain +2 item slots.
[Iron skin] Crits deal 1.25 (rounded down) rather than 1.5 (rounded up) against you.
[Sprint] If using all acts to move can move as an additional action.
[Gifted] Skill points can be used as self points, amazing if you wish to invest into hit rates or fast progress. When you purchase this skill you gain a self point to invest immediately!
[Claws that catch] When a opponent attempts to move/flee from you while in melee, you get a free hit.

>Self points may be used to up the hit percentage of a skill by 5%, gain +1 health, upgrade the amount of spells that you can cast, etc.

>When you miss a enemy you gain a [miss streak] which allows a additional 5% chance to hit with each attack that misses a opponet. Bonus is reset upon landing a hit that deals damage
>Health is now renamed HP or hit points....It felt awkward to say.
>When a player is reduced to negative hit points, they gain the condition called [Mordons gate] which allows a player to continue acting at a debuff of only having 1 act and move along with the chance that the next attack can kill you unless you are healed half health. If a player wishes to they may [Lie down] and will be unnoticed by enemies and will die in three (3) turns unless aid is given.
>Players will now carry 4 items, instead of 3 this helps players to loot a bit more if they wish.
>Every Theurgist gains the spell [Healing touch] this helps people to not spam regen. in dether ray has been upgraded by 10%.
>Spells may be stacked initially by only the first caster and only accounts for 1/2. (this is experimental and is subject to change following maps and play testing)

I see a being that ripped a hole in a goblin. We banished it well enough, yet even so, the trace of Other it leaves behind must be scrubbed from this world.

That's my calling.

Now, Marcus, you're a darling for lighting it all on fire and sweeping the ash but if you'll just let me have a pinch of it, and... yes, some of *those* goblin ears and that bit of David that fell off, good.

If anyone wants me, I'll be in the woods, frolicking around the moonlight naked to consort with dark go--

By which I mean in my tent, reading a book. Got a void of a headache and my shadow won't stop laughing. Also feel like I'm about to vomit light.

Taking a moment to rest after offering Crackle's comatose body you turn through the pages of a book as you gaze at the lantern. Still glowing a soft blue light reminiscent of a buoy from the sea. Wondering whether or not you have succeed or not in your task before the lantern glows for a moment as a inkling of power slips into your mind. Although it may be terrible, the power behind it can shatter a mind if used properly. All it requires is a curse behind it and everything will fall together.

[Word of the lantern] (50) You speak a word that causes reality to bend and twist the target making them mad if they are of weak body and soul. Eventually as the company chops off the ears of the goblins, and makes to burn the bodies they eventually make the day march back from the battlefield towards Bolton. A town nestled right on the edge of the frontier, originally a trading post it has grown to become the last town before the nine forts. It now stands as a meeting hub for adventurers/hero's, mercenary company's, and any service imaginable if you have the coin first.
As you begin to near the gates, you encounter the hubbub of civilization again. A merchant is arguing with a patrol of state troops on the subject of taxes as Lenoy approaches the gates. A quick discussion between the two and a exclamation from Lenoy stating "TEN SILVERS PER MAN MY ASS!"
After some arguing between Lenoy and the guard the company is eventually let through the gates after Lenoy begrudgingly pays the entrance fey. As you enter through the gates and into the center Lenoy turns towards you all.
"Alright, you have the next day to rest up, bandage any wounds you got and practice with your weapons and spells while we're here. Now for your payment...." Lenoy fishes out a small chest from his pack and begins the transfer of cash.

>For completing the mission, slaying the demon before lenoy got to it and surviving. You all get 125 silvers/money.

"With that settled, I have to fill out a hell of a report with the guild. Someone named Ms. Neril wants a report on the entire situation and I have to fill it out."

Gairan: "So while they'rs more than a few theurgist traditions the other two are mostly those that follow the navigator a eldritch being that wants to banish other types of monsters on this world and the heavens Ovon's domain which is mostly 'purge the unclean' that kind of stuff. They're obsessed with holy fire, and generally wield war hammers, maces, that kind of stuff although they are some of the best at fighting demons or really anything that looks horrific."

>Navigator thuergists: Mostly consisting of paranormal investigators or Eldritch hunters theurgists that follow the ritual of the navigator often go very well with hedge mages and often know a bit or two about how to banish a demon or just how to get rid of the body.

>Heaven Theurgists: Flagglents, zealots, crusaders and more. These types of theurgists wish to purge anything that is unclean off the earth. With the unique ability to imbue holy power to they're weapons they are able to banish unholy demons as they wish. Although most of the seniors of they're 'flock' often are crazy.

>Gairan looks odd at you as he looks at his stocks of magical weapons.
"Well most mercs, can't really afford anything above leathers or tunics. At least not after they're first battle most save up for a bit or get they're leader to get some contacts to help them buy the stuff although if you really want some type of armor I can sell you a reinforced tunic or Vicken's probably has some type of 'maid outfit' he has armored if you ask he'll probably give you it for free."

>Purchase reinforced tunic: Dr 1 for 30 silvers?
>Or go to Vicken's and get a 'maid outfit' that gives Dr 1 and [Armor: 2/2] for free?

The warrior glares balefully at the man, his unflinching gaze bearing the slightest hint of the madness he has seen and embraced

He drops his axe unceremoniously on the table with a clatter.

"Very well, but take heed, you will do no harm to the weapon... Where can I buy better armor?"

>Agree to the deal

"I promise you if I did I would repay the price in blood and if your looking for better armor it depends if you can afford it or not. Most merc's like you mostly rely on armor you have cobbled together although if you have the coin you can commission me for a suit of ring mail although it'll be expensive though, more than you have I am sure."

>Ring mail: 250 silvers, Dr 3

"If you want to lower the price, fetch me some scrap from the battlefield. Hobgoblin war axes, the remnants of they're scrap armor, your comrades swords and daggers. Come back with them and I will lower the price for the armor. Although if you ever bring down a mighty beast with your weapon you know where to come back to."

As you ask gairan he pulls out a book for a moment, scanning through the book he gives a quizzical look for a moment before going through it again.
"Huh, I'm sorry lad but it seems that even I don't have anything you are looking for in stock. Although a word of suggestion, things usually aren't that bad when you haywire, mostly a fizzle or a bit of backlash from it nothing to serious. Although if your a demon or something from the beyond then things start to get...Odd here I'll even refund you for the cost."
>Gain refund on asking question.
"It's the least i can do."

>LATER AT THE ILLWIND CLINIC

You wait in a simple robe as Vickens produces several instruments several mundane although a few glow every now and then as he puts you through check after check. Inspecting your molars at one point and then judging whether leeches have a effect on you.
It's a bit invasive to say the least and a bit of a relief when it's finally over as he finishes writing on a piece of parchment after making you drink a decoation that made you retch a bluish liquid.
"Well this one will take the papers to say the least. Man's soul nearly corrupted by a fairy yet he still has his mind. Your quite lucky to say the least, it seems that you have attracted the attention of someone else from they fey side of the world. Luckily your mind and body are still yours and you don't look like your gonna run around prancing about the fey wilds. So you can consider yourself quite lucky to say the least. As for your mutations it seems that it will likely continue to progress and mutate you slowly with fey traits. Whether they may be benficial or not eludes even me. Best to look at yourself closely next time you look at a mirror for signs such as bumps in your back, strange glowing in the eyes, ears etc." Lenoy states as he cleans up the bile on the ground.

"Do come back next time you come from your journey if your still alive. I would love to study how your little 'trait' progresses for you.
