/qst/ - Quests

Welcome back Anons to Titanic Tournament quest, where you are grumpy PC Rickert Volgunsen and vie for eternal glory and maybe some revenge in the grand tournament.

Last time you had a party to celebrate your success in the tournament, and invited all of your acquaintances, including Horst Grimmly one of the Titan pilots you fought in the tournament.

After the party wrapped up you decided to organize a hunting trip for the pilots and conducted a 3 part kaiju hunt that capped off after fighting a beta class kaiju.

Now with some new fancy kaiju body parts and more respect from temporary comrades you return home to Polaris Station.

Here's the rules

>Votes are first to 3.
>Rolls are d20 unless specified.
>Rolls are usually Bo2 unless modified by a trait or if I specifiy.
>I will give options for PC actions, but write-ins are present. Be creative when they come up.
>Doing impressive stuff and doing certain options will give you traits that will boost your stats.
>Ask questions if you have any.
>Have fun.

Within the depths of your mobile fortress you share some drinks with your hunting companions. Despite the spartan decoration of your home and otherwise harsh interior of your chambers, you and your companions are of good cheer.

Sitting together enjoying some fine aged liqour, and talking over the hunting trip you ease into some comfortable conversation.

"I'm genuinely impressed you tore off that beast's heads with just Algol's strength. I've got to admit that this was fun, been a long while since I went on a hunt. By the way which if the innards from the big beastie are you taking?"

Grimmly asks which of the kaiju equipment organs you wish to claim?

"I'll take the heart. I have another smaller one that I'm studying. I've worked out that these large hearts act as power amplifiers. If you can integrate them with a mechanical equivalent and use the internal biomechanical components in the right way, it can increase the overall performance of a titan for a brief period of time by a significant margin."

Your companions all share the same face of mild amusement.

"Nerd!" Rachel says, pointing at you while giggling.

Well that's uncalled for.

"I'm sorry it's just, your so serious and stone-faced and so battlehardened, the image that you put on a lab coat and spend time taking notes and conducting experiments in lab....its so funny. I know you built Algol, and maybe I just don't grasp it but....what can't you do, your one of the most well rounded men I've ever heard of."

Grimmly looks with interest when rachel brings up Algol.

"You built your own Titan? You didn't have a artisan do it on request?" Grimmly eyeballs you with newfound interest.

"I'll bite. How did you go from being a mercenary general to a freelance artisan? Rachel told me about your past, or at least all of the parts that made it into a record. You dropped off the map for nearly twenty years, and you said Algol took twelve, so what happened in between?"

All three of your guests lean in for an explanation. Their eyes fixed upon you with burning interest.

How did it go?
>Well it started when I got captured and was forced to fight as a gladiator in a mad Artisans arena on his mobile fortress.

>I was able to brow beat an artisan with a grudge against house Arnheimer to teach me in exchange for carrying on his plans for the ultimate titan.

"Well.....when I retired from mercenary work I began searching for Titan wrecks. I had a jump ship built and kited out for one man exploration missions. I had gathered enough capital that I could begin building a titan, but I didn't know enough about the esoteric knowledge behind them. I had hoped that by examining the wrecks of forgotten Titans I could make the breakthrough to understanding the theory behind their illogical properties. I researched planets that had been completely destroyed during the Titan wars, in hopes of finding a wreck, and I visited a dead world that no longer had a name, never been repopulated, just a barren rock with lots of melted slag and glass and ash left behind from the war....or so I thought. I detected an anomaly when I tested some seismic sensory equipment, somethign large and solid lay beneath the planets surface. I dug until I reached a doorway meant for a human to pass through. It was a vault, and I'll tell you It took everything I had on hand to get through that fucking door. Eventually I just got frusrated and set off a plasma warhead next to it. It worked and I'll tell you what I found inside that vault was beyond anything I could have ever thought to find.

>you are Rickert Volgunsen nearly 20 years ago. The first person to set foot in the tomb of Ashurbanipal King of the Universe

The residual heat from the plasma detonation is enough to mark the warning markers on you HUD go off, but your so transfixed at what you currently see you can't move.

Beyond that door is a massive tomb like structure. Right beyond the breached entrance is a building sized chamber made of gold and platinum, all wrought in massive reliefs depicting giants fighting each other. The largest of all stands so tall its height goes from floor to ceiling. A man holding a grown lion under his arm like it was a housecat. Bearded and upright, in the other hand is a sword. At foot of this giant are burnt cities and mountans of dead bodies. Each corpse is disturbingly detailed, representing a fallen enemy or slain civilian.

This chamber is not only tall but long, teriffically long. It stretches for miles it seems to you.

You say nothing, there are no words for this. You get on your jet bike and move further in, you just hope there is something useful in this place and not just more vain displays of wealth by some dead noble.

Riding along a path you reach the steps of what can only be an artificial mountain of somekind, a huge golden zigguraut that must as tall as a titan.

Every level is inscribed with more depictions of the lion holding, city destroying giant. Most of the show the giant killing other giants. Splitting their heads open with a sword or mace, impaling them with spears or arrows, and in some case wrestling them into submission.

The further and futher you climb your insrtuments begin to buzz and beep warnings. Your begining to get near an exceptionally strong power source.

At the apex of the golden mountain you see..

this wins

Atop the zigguraut is a tablet standing nearly 12 feet tall inscribed with text from top to bottom.

There's a lot of boasting and a egregiously long list of titles (typical of a noble), but what interests you is thos tibit.

"The gods have made all things known to me, and all the secrets of heaven are mine. For by my hand the great godmachines march and I make the heavens quake with my coming, for the secret of steel known to me and the knowledge of the greatest artisans belongs to me alone."

This guy......Ashurbanipal....You know that name.

Kazuo spent a lot of time learning about the distant past, the ancient hisotry of mankind before we rushed to occupy distant stars, but this is history relevant to the new age of galactic humanity.

The origin of the first titans is about as mysterious and heavily researched a subject as any, but a name that frequently was a super emperor that rules at least 30 percent of the galaxy for hundres of years. The few records that remain from that period over 4,000 years ago indicate that this ruler participated in the first conflicts where titans first appeared.

Looking around from the top of the Zigguraut you take out your electronic scope and start scanning. If this guy knew how to build titans and was this proud, you have an idea that the knowledge is stored away somewhere in this tomb.

What did you inevitably find?

>A codex containing the knowledge of hundreds of artisans (Big bonus to building projects)

>A manuel on the mysterious science of titans (Big bonus to boosting titan traits)

Drilling into the Zigguraut, and then blasting past all the sentry turrets and automated android defenders, you cherish your prize.

It's a database in the form of a house sized dark colored metallic block. You aren't sure how on earth this thing is exactly supposed to work but, some preliminary tests show that this object does host information.

It will take years to effectively decode and transcribe the information but you are sure it will possess the information you seek. The lore to construct a titan.

Touching the black metal surface with your bare hands, you feel a sharp tingling shoot up your spine.

What will you unleash with this knowledge?

>Flash back end

Your guests are struck with awe and wonder, Grimmly and the Harpers share the same open mouthed expression.

"What happened to the codex?" Rachel asks.

"I still have it, and I'm still teasing out its secrets. To be honest it will remain a mystery for years to come maybe even centuries, the sheer amount of knowledge that was tossed into it is astounding."

Your guests say nothing else, and your gathering wraps up soon after your story ends.

Alone once more in your home you rest and awake the next day to go about your business.

What do you do?

>Go to the artisans (buy equipment/weapons, commission gear)

>Go to Polaris (indicate which level you want to visit)

>Hang out with friends/contacts

> "Flashback"

Here's the options for polaris

>The uppermost section.
---Go socialize with nobles. While it pains you to do so, making contacts is important, and the last time went well (about as much as it could).
---look for a quick duel
---try to sell some of your excess titan equipment for some cash

>The upper-middle section.
---Tourney office. See if they are planning any extra events or look at registration records to check out the competition.
---Go to one of the lounges where fans meet up to get something to eat and try to get a feel for the local fighting scene.
---look at the betting pools and see if you can't make some money.

>Lower-middle section.
---Go to one of the amusement parks. They have several types and there will be all sorts of people to meet.
---Go to a recreation park to play some friendly sport games or relax.
---Go out and do some leisure shopping. You have more money then you would ever need for mundane items anyways.

>The lowest section.
---Go to the arenas to race, or fight or just watch.
---Go look for some quality drink. There's another contest coming up.
---Look at the workshops for some pointers and new ideas.

Can we trade some of our other kaiju parts for another Tempest Blaster and Lightning Gnashers?
Can we take all the bones and scrap metal from the planet where we fought the beta?
>>
>>2636138
Yeah you could trade some stuff with Grimmly and the Harpers.

You can take some of the bones and scrap from the beta monster planet but most of it isn't of high enough quality to turn into anything particularly useful.
>>
>>2636149
I just want all the bones and scraps for decorative purposes.
A beta Titan will need a lot of material for cosmetic changes.
>>
>>2636155
Sure
>You now have
>Titan scrap (a large amount)
>Kaiju bones and remains (a excessive amount)

You can also turn Ghidorah's skin into a belt or cape sine you know it's all shin and gold.
>>
>>2636160
Cool bueno.

Would they be willing to trade a Tempest Blaster and Lightning Gnashers for a Kaiju mega shell and two kaiju hearts (the smaller ones)?
>>
>>2636169
Grimmly would trade his gnashers and the blaster for the shell. (He loves armor stuff a lot)

The harpers would want the massive kaiju heart you got from the gamera kaiju in exchange for their gnashers and blaster.
>>
>>2636187
I'd agree with Grimmly's deal.
I can only see one of the harpers being able to make use of the heart. What if we throw in a pair of heavy shields?

How do the hearts work again? Do they work one and done forever, or can they be restored? Kind of like how magic users in DnD can restore spells each day.
>>
I should probably wait for the other anon's input before the deal can be finalized.
>>
>>2636206
The kaiju hearts are used to make a titan supercharger that enables a supermode. You took the beta class heart from Ghidorah and they want the delta class one you got from the gamera kaiju. You don't need anything else to bribe them with, but if you gave them a gift like the heavy shields they would both appreciate it.

As in your relationship with them would go up.

I'm having a hard time choosing between racing or going to the workshop.
1 for racing
2 for workshop
this will be my vote

Do we have the option to work on the Beta necks? Like can we work on putting cybernetics in them so they can partially grow then put them on ice until the end of the competition?

>>2636231
Giving them the delta heard in exchange for the gnather and tempest sounds fair. Should probably wait for an anon's opinion.

So the hearts are one and done for a short period of time, then they are forever useless?
>>
>>2636248
>the hearts
No they aren't a consumable they are just used as a crafting material. If you get the supercharger, you can use it in battle and the effect lasts for so many turns and then you need to wait for the supercharger to recharge, but it can be used over and over again.

You could burn one out but doing that would result in a really big boost in the meantime.

Is helping house Naut in exchange for profit possible?
>>
>>2636287
>Helping house naut for profit
They can pay you in virgins (kidding...maybe unles you want to do that sort of thing)

During your time off from the tournament between rounds you could show up and offer them a deal.

>You offer to become a protector and guard their shipping lanes from all their neighbors and destroy any fleet or army that dares approach. In exchange for protecting them and uplifting them as their champion they have to pay tribute to you like any feudal overlord.

If you defeat and route enough of their enemies and acquire ransom and bribes (the kind of bribes you pay to keep guys like Rickert from beating you up and fucking your wife) for Naut you can turn their entire realm around and gain their eternal gratitude ( or at least until their descendants stop caring about how you helped them).
>>
>>2636318
is it possible to claim any titan or ships we defeat in defending House Naut's realm or trade routes?
>>
>>2636332
Yes, if you can get your opponent to lay their titan on the line in a duel.

But if you have the means to just beast through all of that houses titans you can take their titans and beat down whatever retaliation they send out.

If you want you can just go around acting like an escpecially belligerant ronin, taking and killing and working for whoever until your strong.
>>
>>2636348
We wont get in trouble with the titan community if we act like a belligerant ronin will we?
>>
>>2636386
The rules are no titan wars, which is basically don't actively attack planets with titans. Wars with soldiers, and tanks and battleships still happen though.

If you stick around somewhere too long or pick fights with the wrong people that cpuld be a problem, but if you show up with a Beta titan (and a strong one at that) only really strong noble families will be willing to stand up to you.
>>
>>2636415
How much time until the next match?

Its been a little while since you had some fun by yourself. So far you've focused on spending time with others, and while that's defintely a worthwhile investment of your time, going out just by yourself would be enjoyable.

Looking over the station manifest, you see that an open entry race is coming up. Thinking back at the last race you participated in, the rush of adrenaline when you brely dodged the moving floor slabs, outmaneuvering the other racers, and the massive jump you made to win.

Yeah you're doing that again.

Jaunting over to your jet bike you crack open the hood and carefully inspect it.

Examining the plasma core that powers the engine and the massive single thruster that propels, your bike forward you notice that some adjustments could be made to increase the overall acceleration you can get out of the predator.

The adjustments you make work perfectly. The engine contentedly rumbles with renewed vigor.

"Get into position and walk your bikes to the lifts!" The pit chief yells over the intercoms.

Alright time to put the pedal to the metal once more. Safely seated and secured to your seat, you put on the mag locks and wait for the lift bring you topside.

Pushed through the opening above once more the massive shifting arena excites you with tis bright lights, massive scale, and the unreasonably large crowd. Over 500,000 people can pack this stadium and still have room for more.

Scanning around you see the other racers make last minute checks as the instructions for the current race flash through your helmet HUD.

"This is a standard class b obstacle race. 2 laps, 3 obstacles per lap, and they will change. Dont slam into each other and avoid making risky moves. Be safe."

You turn over the engine and start throttling your engine. You can already see on display that your thruster s warming up and spitting out a gout of plasma.

A massive horn sounds and the starter lights descend.

>DC 12
>you start out in 5th place out of 20

Your start is near perfect. The moment the final light brightens up, and the race begins a sharp superheated crack of plasma shoots from Predators thruster.

Surging forward you weave past the rider positioned in front, sliding by nearly kissing the ground with your shoulder before rocketing past and joining the front runners.

In the foremost pack of riders you throttle up once more picking up even more speed.

Now your riding at 155 MPH and climbing, soon you can set the engine to its higher gears and really start burning.

Coming up on the first obstacle, its a twisting loop that requires the rider move in a corkscrew manner.

Getting through this will require equal parts precision and speed, if your not careful you'll slip of and have to ride out of the penalty pit and lose a lot of time and your position.

Coming up on the corkscrew loop you...

>ride the corkscrew (DC 15, go up 1 place)
>gun it and just jump across (DC18, go up 3 places)

Riding the inside of the corkscrew you turn and slide along the top so your main thruster can compensate and keep you moving along the curve. Once on the other side you punch it and shoot out ahead of one of the other riders.

Perfect execution.

>you are now in 4th place

Tearing down the straight away your speed is up to 270 MPH and climbing. The riders in front of you are accelerating at a similar pace, you'll need to take them on the obstacles in order to pass.

The second obstacle comes up, a series of suspended platforms that need to be hopped and sipped in order to reach the other side.

The platforms are small and fairly far apart, this will require great control and precision to navigate.

Before you reach the platforms you....

>slow down and make high arcing precise jumps to get across (DC 15, go up 1 place)
>make long rapid jumps to get across as quickly as possible (DC 18 Go up 3 places)

No point in slwoing down, if you just throttle and boost at the right time you can skim the platforms and maintain your speed.

Jumping on to the first you feel the rythm build with each platform. each jump and landing building into a staccato beat of the harsh crack of your repulsor jets and main thrusters working together.

Reaching the other side at last your speed is up to 330MPH.

You pull ahead of the other riders and take the straight away alone.

>you are now in first place.

The final obstacle before the lap ends is here, a sheer nearly 90 degree wall that you have to ride all the way up before moving forward.

All this momentum you've built up will make this pretty easy.

Pfff. With the acceleration tweak to Apex predator you barely slow down as you climb the sheer wall. Leaving a glowing trail going up the metal barrier, you pop up before using some auxillary thruster to flip forward and boost toward the starting line.

Before your eyes the track changes and the original path is blocked off, and a new path opens to your right. Sharply drifting you power slide downward and pick up even more speed.

Your cruising at 397MPH and you feel great, even if all of your blood is trying to exit out of your ass.

At your blistering ppace you reach the next obstacle in no time. This time it a long bridge bridge with repulsor cannons lined up nearby.

Dodge or get knocked off and have to drive your way out of the penalty pit.

Bring it on.

What do you do?

>perfectly dodge the repulsor cannon shots and get across (DC16 increase your lead by 1 space)

You opt to play it safe and just dodge the reulsor blasts.

Darting and zagging to avoid the large energy spheres hurtling toward you, you miscalculate to converging spheres coming at you from different angles. You avoid the two but by darting out of the way a third blast hits and sends off the bridge into the penalty pit.

Descending into the deep flat pit, you see the long ascent you'll need to ride on to get back on the track.

Others follow suit and fall down, but you already know that your first place position is taken.

Riding along the access way you jump off the ramp and get back on the main course.

Speed is 350MPH, and the next obstacle is coming up.

a square space with openings for walls to shoot out from to block the path.

You must navigate through the randomly appearing barriers and out the other side into order to progress.

What do you do?

>ride along the openings and wait for the right moment to move to the next section (DC16 increase your place by 1)

You decide to try and use a rising wall to jump the course, and succeed at getting one of the wall to rise beneath you.

Unfortunately the wall rose a little too quickly and sent you flying .

Losing time and being sent off course put you further behind, your current fourth place is now even further removed.

Flooring it you make for the final obstacle in the race.

Rising into the air is another sheer wal ride, and then a controlled plummet through a vertical tube.

Other then getting up the climb, you need to ride down another sheer surface, level out and then shoot toward the finish line.

What do you do?

For the wall
>Use all of your momentum to climb the wall and boost at the end to avoid stalling (DC 14, increase place by 1)

You are pretty sure you'l have to replace the plasma core on the Apex Predator but when you open up the throttle as hard as you possibly can and slam the boost pedal at the same time, for good measure you disable the safety measure meant to avoid a sudden super sonic acceleration.

Thank God you are near superhuman or you would almost certainly be dead right now.

The harsh scream that accompanies your brief breakage of the sound barrier is nothing compared to waht happens next.

You feel like you'be slapped int he face by Algol and your blood feels like it really is about to shoot out through your ass.

You remain conscious though the effort is herculean.

You rush past your opponents and right before the current 1st place can cross you bluster past.

The aitomatic safety reengage protocol comes through and you through your jet bick around.

Using the last bleed of your booster you slow down before you slam into a wall and die.

Half drunk and barely coherent you drunkenly raise your fists in your apparent upset victory, and you contine to do so until you have enough blood in your brain to avoid having a stroke.

It would allow your engine to boost for much longer and each higher top speeds with even greater acceleration, but it would also quickly melt your engine. But the answer for that problem is get a bigger engine and make a super jet bike of some sort, but these races have specifications for what your jet bike is supposed to have under the hood to avoid imbalances in races due to equipment differences and not skill.

During the war though Rickert rode around on a jet bike that was suped up and rode around decapitating people at super sonic speeds with an axe.

You crack a smile and chuckle. Rash, you hope that's a family name and not one he picked up. You suppose if you rode frequently you'd get a rash but you also imagine that's not what the racer had in mind.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Rickert Volgunsen, I hope this will be an enjoyable race......nice hair by the way."

Rash sneers at you and his hair bounces.

"I know you, your that hot shot titan pilot everyone is talking about. But make no mistake I don't care how much of a big shot you are I'm gonna settle this."

Rash puts on his helmet before getting on his jet bike. The telltale sounds of the engine warming up tells you he's just deciding to skip the pleasentries and start the race.

Fine dick.

You climb atop Apex Predator and glare at him from within your helmet. You notice on the side of his purple and black bike is 'Pantera' Written in bold font.

The platforms rise and you are once more on the track, although the crowd is gone.

"This is a class C race, one lap, 4 obstacles, try and keep up."

Rash revs his bike in challenge.

Your engine backfires fiercely, instead of providing additonal thrust to send you where you need to go, you briefly lose control and need to readjust and slow down to remain in control.

Rash has no such problem, and zooms off and sets an impressive lead.

This is what happens when you tweak engines, unlike titans ordinary machines can still fail even when they're in perfect condition.

>Rash is automatically 3 spaces ahead.

Once you finally get going you try and do your best to make up for your terrible start. Unfortunately Rash maintins his lead and cintinues to pick up speed.

Right before you enter the tube you open the throttle and boost.

The barriers in front of you are meer smudges in your vision, but your razor sharp reflexes allow you to jump, twist and swerve out of the way even as you start to break the sound barrier.

Coming out of the Tube you cross the finish line at 670MPH, Out running the very sound you produce. For a time everything is eirely silent until you slow down.

It takes a while for Rash to meet up with you.

Rolling up beside you Rash stops and pulls off his helmet.

The look he gives is a mixture of disappointment and respect. He nods in resignation, and extends his hand to you.

"Looks like I can't say that you winning was a fluke."

You firmly shake his hand and remain silent and stoney faced.

"I don't mean to be an ass, but its a matter of pride. I'm a racer, this is my art, to lose especially by such a narrow margin to taste vistory only to bite into defeat....Its more bitter that way."

"Sir, all of the battle groups are in position." Your adjutant adjusts the battle map to show that your core group of armor and infantry is advancing steadily as the heavy guns on the flanks tear the wings of the enmy army to ribbons.

The prodding strikes ou've been making for months have finally given all the information you need to crush this last defensive position, finish off the conflict on this worthless planet.

"Send a general order to maintain sufficient distance until I say otherwise. Bring up the orbital guns and punch in the coordiantes and fire codes I selected."

The command staff around you rush and execute your orders the moment they leave your mouth, your adjutant dutifully takes notes on everyhting you say for the after battle report.

Once the kinetic rounds curve around the planet and finally hit the desired location you can send the heavy infantry elements and then make the big push.

You sigh and pinch the bridge of our nose. Rising from your seat, you walk to your the discreet comm chamber next to your quarters.

"Patch the admiral through."

The display reveals the Admiral in all her elderly patrician glory. A large heavily decorated great coat swaddles her frail body, while one of her footmen attending upon her.

"What do I owe the pleasure admiral?" You say deadpan and with as much contempt as you can manage.

Sutherland sips from a delicate tea cup before speaking.

"I have yet to recieve an apology for your un aithorized use of my naval assets Volgunsen, It is improper for a ground commander to commandeer naval vessals for personal use."

Your frown deepens but your voice remains calm and neutral.

"You were not present at the time, Admiral and I required orbital support. The officer at the time was being unreasonable to refuse my orders and it became clear that for the operation to be successful I would need to use the orbital assets available. So I took temporary command and fired upon the enemy and accomplished the objective."

The admiral sips once more from her tea cup.

"An officer of the fleet does not heed the commands of a "ground" officer let alone a mercenary, commodorre Sutherland's complaint stands and if you will not show proper courtesy then I will teach you respect."

The admiral is about to chastise you before a gun pokes her temple. In the background the footman is already dead from having his throat slit.

"How dare yo-!" The sound of the gun evacuating the admiral's brain is music to your ears.

"General are you sure that Lord Sutherland will accept this course of action?"

Your adjutant rightly points out the action, of course with complete neutrality. You hired a professional to act as your personal assistant.

"No need to fear, the fleet will hardly move without some blue blood to tell them too. The voidsmen aboard can scarcely piss without being ordered to."

Leaving the room you begin to relocate outside to get some fresh, ashen slightly irradiated air.

"I intend to inspect our heavy infantry as they sortie, check in will all group leaders and once the bombardment has ceased relay the signal to advance."

The adjutant bows and walks back into the FOB.

By the time the assault craft are about to take off. You're in your power armor and ready to deploy.

"Why sir?

"I enjoy killing and fighting soldier, its made me the man I am today."

Your response makes the trooper gulp. The others all look even more uncomfortable.

This is quickly becoming irritating. Did these men just come out of their mothers wombs? These are soldiers, when you were a trooper you were already hungry for some carnage even on your first day.

Maybe they need some motivation or a reality check.

"You lot in this carrier. Do you know who I am?"

The soldiers remain silent as they exhange glances.

"I am the general of this army. I am master and commander of every one of you. Every soldier, every engineer, and every single personel combat ready or not, is paid by me and led by me. Do you know where we are going?"

The soldiers nod.

"We're headed into the heart of this battle, right in the jaws of the beast. Where all the blood and guts and death is going to be. And dear soldiers, who am I?"

"The general sir!" The soldiers shout, but their determination you know is weak, their soundoff is anemic.

"Yes! I am! And why the hell is your general, the single most important man in the entire army here on this craft ready to fight on the front fucking line!"

The soldiers have no answer. They try their best to avoid your gaze.

"Its because I have faith. In you, In my strategies, the officers that are present in the field, and I shall say again in you!"

The assembled soldiers are tansfixed by your words, their mouths are agape.

"I have survived over a hundred battles, as heavy infantry, I've killed more men then I can bother to count and destroyed whole cities. I have survived the great meat grinder enough that now I wear the stars, but you know what? I feel confident, I have iron hard faith that you! My soldiers will win! Will survive! Will protect! ME!"

The craft remains silent but there is an energy in the air, a vital charge.

"I have climbed my way out of the hell in the gulf and I know that you are not mere soldiers, you are warriors, warriors who can and will fight and win! Do you think I would risk my life after everything I've strived for by joining a group of idiots! Do you think that I would send myself in a meat grinder! NO!"

A rumble builds in the craft, as armored hands pound on metal, and a murmur of excitement mbuilds in your troops.

"Now that you understand what's going to happen, what are you gonna do! What are you gonna do when you hit the field of battle!"

"WIN!"

"You're damn right you're gonna win and why is that!"

"BECAUSE WE ARE WARRIORS!"

The roar reverberates through the craft. Superhuman vocal cords create a cacophany of sound.

There they are motivated now.

When the craft reaches the drop point you are the first out. Slamming into the earth you survey the field.

"All of you are going to follow me."

Your command ripples through the ranks. The troops and their NCOs fall in behind you.

Taking off with your thrusters, you identify one of the incoming enemy defensive postions. A massed formation of entreched infantry, with some armor elements.

A good test for your heavy infantry. They have to simultaneously avoid the heavier fire that can kill them while also efficiently mauling the softer infantry elements.

"Form a wedge and prepare, non-coms put those warheads to good use, and select priority targets. Fire at will."

The tactical warheads are launched immediately. The nova bursts that appear disentegrate entire regiments of unshielded infantry as tank battalions are melted and torn apart.

Beautiful.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGHCoVzqtk

Dropping down on the infantry with your troops, you get to work. Scything blasts from your laser gauntlet and shoulder plasma launcher roast the grunts as your troopers do the same. Any enemy supid enough to get to close is bisected by your axe. Miniature lightning strikes kill officers as your axe lends some extra ranged killing capacity. One ppor bastard gets stuck on your foot when you crush him. You drag the corpse around like its dogshit on your boots.

Assault is progressing, situation is excellent.

"All units once the current engagement breaks wheel to your right, we are going to pincer the enemy flank and provide support for the right wing offensive. Those heavy gun need to get inside thos shield to clear the skies for our long artillery and air support."

"Yes sir!"

Soaring through the air you leave the broken enemy vanguard to bleed out in the hot sun. Thousands of identical lights and dots dance through the clear sky, as your power armored soldiers do as you command. That scintillating feeling of a plan coming together warms your black heart.

Touching down not much later you carve through another enemy postion and survey the field from the slightly elevated position.

Primary elements of your army make their way across the field to their predetermined postions. The artillery is barraging when they're supposed to, enemy counter elements are killed before any counter offensive can be launched, no gaps in your lines, no obvious weak points exposed, all is well.

You'll need to expand the pension plan at this rate.

You gather your cluster of troops from the carrier and descend upon the enemy flank with gusto. Looking to your right you see one of the non-com still has a warhead.

"Do you mind if I use that?"

The minor officer tosses it to you.

"Knock yourself out sir."

Indeed you will. You see that there are several ideal targets that need to die right now, but hich one to pick?

What do you do?
>Blow up that armored column coming in right now from the center of the enemy formation.
>Melt that energy shield that's about to go up.
>Go hit that small retreating squad that most defintely isn't the enemy commander who was hiding here all along instead of being in the FOB.
>>
>>2644328
>>Melt that energy shield that's about to go up.
>>
>>2644340
>melt the shield

The nova warhead sail and slams into the desired target. The sudden minature sun appearing melts the generator just before it goes up and the chain reaction magnifies the explosion and craters the center of the enemy flank.

Those cheap Eilidian mobile shields are more of a hazard then a help but your enemy has made more mistakes today then just taking the lowest bidder for hardware.

Thrusting deep into the mauled enemy formation you set about, vivisecting and disentegrating all of the pitiful grunts you can before they run away.

Really the battles outcome was never in question, it really helped that your adversary was so banal in their strategems. Fighting to the last man on EVERY piece of ground, unless the army broke from orders, relying over much on air power or armored elements to win fights, an overall lack of awareness on both the tactical and strategic levels.

If the galactic nobles ever wrote a manuel on war you're certain that all of the blunders in this campaign would fit right in next to blowing up your own army because the general in charge insulted someones idiot grandson.

You realize that you've been disembowling some poor sod while contemplating this.

Uh now the laser gauntlet is all gunked up, you really need to avoid spacing out like this while fighting, you get sloppy while you ramble internally.

"Status report." You growl to one of the regimental commanders over comms.

"Enemy is in full retreat, their other flank and center have collapsed and are in disarray."

Good your job here is done then.

"Sir we have captured the enemies forward base." The voice of adjutant rings through your comms.

Excellent, now you just need to sort them out and put them under lock and jey and prepare to rake in the dough.

You wouldn't have wasted time on such a paltry conflict if the enemy wasn't so rich and easily duped in battle.

You hitch a ride on an assault craft and touch down right outside the primary bunker.

Once inside you see the elite heavy infantry team carefully guarding your prizes.

Officers of various degrees, and women and children and non combat husbands as well. It irks you how someone can just bring their family along with them to a warzone without thought, but these are nobles so foresight is out of the question for them.

You survey the assortment and finally find the enemy commander, lord general Andrew Gates. he was trying to sneak away on the flank you were on but when he retreated he fll right into the arms of the troops aiting for him.

Despite his stated age being 45 he looked like some apple cheeked boy. There was no steel to this man, neither in his appearance nor in his personality, a truely paper tiger.

Imperiously you glare at the pitiful man who calls himself a general, and say nothing. Such a wretched cur is far beneath you.

"You sir have no right to hold me." The apple cheeked shit stain speaks.

"If I am to be captured, I shall be captured by a peer, an equal not some upjumped mercenary cur."

Oh it would appear that general Gates misunderstands the situation.

If I desire you can have your faces removed and be used as slave labor on some god forsaken asteroid somewhere. Remember that every comfort and protection afforded by custom is ONLY due to custom, no one can save you and you live and DIE by my hand and my hand alone. The lecture you enter is sparsely occupied but you know from the equations on a holographic board that this is titan technology being displayed. Quite rare seeing the Artisans and others who hold such knowledge guard it voraciously.

carefully copying the notes ont he board and VERY carefully listening to what the speaker says you begin to realize that these equations would help with creating a weapon of such destructive power that only a titan of exceptional strength and power could use it.

Returning to your fortress after the completion of your study, the notes are put on ice. Until after the round ends they won't be applicable.

Deep in thought, and engrossed in records you contemplate a very non-sequitor line of thinking. When you first fought in Algol your opponent was an exceptionally ramshackle titan, a pile junk more or less.

But looking back on that battle and that name....Naut the house that it represented in the tournament. What would possess any house no matter the circumstance to embarrass themselves in the grand tournament for the whole of the human race to see?

The story behind Naut is almost tragic.

A house of modest means, a colony founded by a group of settlers who struck out to form their own nation. This core of original citizens would later attract others from their original homeworld and soon Naut formed as the planetary governors although the house itself consisted of much of the population of the planet and acted more as a legacy or tribal affiliation then a ruling class.

This period of prosperity ended and the planet was assailed on all sides by their neighbors, beaten, pillaged, constantly extorted. The death of millions by vicious orbital bombardments, and space piracy.

Their only Titan was was repeatedly beaten down and stripped until only a twisted mockery remained, a massive stain on their history to mark their misfortune.

You were not the first to shame them, and you are certainly not the last.

On your console you read out the letter to yourself, in hopes that it sounds right, that it sounds sincere.

You would like to talk with them, about an arrangement, something that you could help with.

looking through the ever present catalogue of events available on Polaris you final breakdown and go test your mettle in a drinking contest.

Traveling into the lowest section of the station the smell of hard spirits and milder brews permeates the air. The wodden floor, walls and soft lighting lends itself to a friendly atmoshphere.

Going to a small desk you gain the attention of the attendent.

"Oh are you here for the drinking contest?"

You nod.

"Well okay, sign here on this waiver so you can participate and follow me. I can tell you're augmented which means you'll be competing in the augmentedsegment of the competition.

You are guided into a nother room filled with similarly large people who are lined up on a long table.

You take a seat and soon a plethora of drinks are laid before you.

A half gallon of beer, a quart of stout, and 5 large shots of various hard liqours.

"You have an hour to drink as much as possible, vomiting, blacking out or being unable to stand and keep your balance will mean disqualification, good luck!"

When you arrive the place is in chaos. There are more people then you saw last time and even then the place was packed. Sections around terminals' have switchbacking lines built up, and there clusters of people around a pit of some sort waving dataslates as a staffer stands above the crowd taking and authenticating them.

There's no doubt then as you go in the back and use the terminals meant for pilots. The bracket tournament, these people are freaking out of the bracket tournament.

In comparison to the proper matches that take place during the round, the brackets are open to anyone witha titan. You've heard that sometimes tougher prospects crash stations with weaker competition, or hordes of weaker competition flood stronger venue's but when you open up the bracket regisration you see things that spread tingles up your back,

The rest of the list is formidable as well, varous higher tier deltas and experienced pilots have entered the bracket here at polaris. The reward hasn't been mentioned yet, so you can only speculate for coming here.

>>
>Contenders list (No equipment yet because that's a lot of text and you can research them individually because the brackets are 1v1)

>Lord Bernard Malkin in his titan Solid Marshall (Delta class)
The lord of a moderately wealthy noble dynasty. He has entered into the Polaris Bracket on a rumor that the grand prize is exceptionally rare.

>Alphonse Hedorach in his titan Ancient Sentinel (Delta class)
Alphonse has a reputation as a kaiju hunter and exterminator. After hearing that some pilots from Polaris took down Ghidorah he entered in hopes of fighting strong opponents.

>Grace Westhold in her titan Fiend Butcher (Delta class)
An unaffiliated pilot with no noble or planetary ties. Applied for the bracket to make money on gambling and ransom because she couldn't enter the tournament.

>Jacob Orthal in his titan Warwick III (Delta class)
A strange man who operates a bio-titan, using a strain of kaiju that resembles a humanoid. Not much is know about this man other then he seems to be an artisan and possesses a perturbing personality.

>Ysolde Arnheimer in her titan Bold Emperor (Beta)
The young prodigy of the Arnheimer family. She has reportedly come to seek out the man who publicly Humiliated and killed one of her kinsmen.

>Uriah Hurn in his titan Burning Palm (Delta class)
A lunatic obssessed with hand to hand combat. He entered with the express reasoning of fighting Rickert Volgunsen in a titantic duel of grappling and fist fighting.

>Lao in his titan Last Breath (Delta class)
A man with no last name who refused any question for his motivation in the bracket tournament. A complete unknown

>Henry Wilks in his titan Gunsmoke (Delta class)
A man in strange clothing with a titan that has a strange array of hand held weapons. Expressed interest in winning the bracket relying on nothing else but ranged weapons.

>Camilia Dernier in her titan Pheobus (Beta)
When she heard her rival Ysolde had entered she entered in order to defeat and humiliate her.

Do you want on specifics?
>If yes then who?
>>
>>2646786
Is Alphonse Hedorach the same guy that failed to kill the thunder king?

What does it mean that Grace Westhold couldn't enter the tournament? If she's in the bracket I thought that would mean she's in?

I want to learn about Ysolde Arnheimer.

If a delta were to wrestle a beta, would the delta's STR mod be replaced with a -4, or the -4 penalty would be applied to their strength mod?
>>
>>2646816
>Hedorach failed to kill thunder king
No the hunter who tried to kill Indra was a guy called Cartwright unless you're talking about Hedorach being one of the hunters that failed to kill Ghidorah in which case he was.

>Grace not being the main tournament
The brackets are open to ANYONE with a titan including those who didn't enter the main tournament

>Delta vs beta wrestling
a -4 to the roll, if you did it your roll would be +2 but the enemy would gain an extra Best of roll.

Wrapping up your inspection of Ysolde's titan you recognize that this monstrous machine is clearly stronger and better armed then Algol. In a straight fight like a one on one duel would be disasterous.

Exiting the betting pools you take the list of names with you.

What do you do today?

>Go to the artisans (buy equipment/weapons, commission gear)

>Go to Polaris (indicate which level you want to visit)

>Hang out with friends/contacts

>Look for work

>Encounter: Super Soldier Blues

options for polaris

>Installing the tendons on Algol

The supple kaiju tendons are a complex combination of natural biological carbon fibers combined with numerous bonding agents and extra materials. The flying kaiju you huned were quite slippery and capable at dodging despite being rathe rminor and undeveloped specimens in comparison too more evolved Kaiju.

Visiting a Artisan you get a quote on how much money you would need to push for these tendons to be modified and installed inside Algol to reinforce the internal structure by supplmenting Algol's artifical skeleton and musculature.

Waiting inside your fortress you finally recieve a response.

>Provide the kaiju material and pay me 20 credits

Add mouth/teeth and more claws to Algol's fists?
>>
>>2647200
Sure way not.
Though i would like to use the harts
>>
>>2647186
While we're at it, can we figure out the cost to make equipment out of the hyper dense Adamant armor?
>>
>>2647206
The hearts? As in the smaller hearts? There's an idea right there.

>>2647186
Would it be possible to equip more than one heart? (so we only have the small hearts and the beta hearts now?)
>>
>>2647200
Functional upgrades or just cool decorations to scare the piss out of your opponents?

>>2647208
>Hyper dense adamant armor
for 25 credits and combining with the regular adamantine plate you get (+10 damage resistance, resists armor piercing)

>>2647210
>Hearts
You have a beta class massive kaiju heart, you traded the delta massive heart for a Ghidorah head, and you have the two smaller delta hearts.

You could combine the big heart and the 2 smaller hearts to increase the number of turns you stay in super mode.
>>
>>2647218
>Functional upgrades or just cool decorations to scare the piss out of your opponents?
Why not both? I wanna bite some fuckers titan.

Is that 25 credit cost for the raw adamantine scales or from the readily made Adamantium equipment? Whatever the case 25 credits sounds good.
>>
>>2647218
Sure lest use all 3 of them
>>
>>2647361
Craft or use after crafting? Using all three would take up all the inventory space on a delta.....Uh

>>2647218
Do the hearts take up inventory space?
Is it possible to do some titan equipment research to add +1 equipment space?
>>
>>2647382
If you use the combined hearts they would be a single piece of an equipment. and they would be better overall

>25 cost?
Its for the upgrade since its combining the hyper dense stuff with the readily made adamantine armor.

>mouth and teeth
Cost: 10 credits, kaiju fangs
product: Titan trait- Devil Fangs (1d8 melee damage +melee bonus damage)

>Mega devil fangs
Cost: 15, 1xlightning gnashers
Product: Titan trait- Storm Devil fangs (2d10+str+energy bonus damage)

>>2647382

Yeah you could invest in that, just give me some time to think of something that make sense to find in order to get it, like a kaiju bodypart.

>>2647472
Combining hearts? Sounds dope. How much to do that and make it into an equipment item?
The armor upgrade is a must have.
Get the mouth and teeth too for intimidation purposes. Oh! Idea! If we find a Kaiju that does sonic screeching attacks, we could add those to the mouth and teeth for additional scariness.

>making the Mega devil fangs using one of the Gnashers
Oh. Can we just use more teeth? I want to keep to Gnashers and blasters together.

I got family in texas but I don't live there

>upgraded Titan supercharger
Cost: 50 credits, Massive kaiju heart (beta), 2 kaiju hearts
Product: Equipment: Titan power matrix (4 turns of super mode, +2 to all stats, +1 Best of roll, +10 to all dmaage rolls)

>using more teeth to make mage devil fangs
You need higher quality teeth to make the upgraded devil teeth otherwise you just get the devil fangs trait. After all there is only so much space for teeth and quality is a big factor for damage
>>

>>
>>2648604
Yup
>>
>>2648605
After the super dense armor and the heart you're down to 40 credits.

The teeth would bring you to 25 if you use the gnashers or 30 if you just use the regular fangs. But you haven;t confirmed that purchase yet,
>>
>>2648620
Still want to save the Gnashers for the beta titans head so I'll stick with the regular fangs.
