Water... Earth... Fire... Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he died. The Fire Nation, both knowing his destined place of birth and fearing his arrival, wiped out all the Air Nomad Temples. When their reincarnations rose to oppose the Fire Nation, they were slain too.

But now there is a new Avatar, one named Kazuki in the Fire Nation, but he has a lot to learn before he even realizes what the Fire Nation is doing is wrong. But one day….I think Kazuki will save the world.

You let out a long sigh, making sure to stretch your arms and sigh, while looking out your parents’ carriage. The sun was setting, and no matter how cheesy it sounded or long it went on it drew a smile to your face.

“Wipe that smile off your face young man.” Your mother snorted, whacking you on the head with a heavy fan. “You look creepy. We’re here to find you a wife and introduce you to society; show them a goofy look like that and they’ll think you’re a fool or worse yet some provincial bumpkin.”

“Well...we aren’t we?” You ask, rubbing your head. “All the land we administrate is in the Colonies. This is my first time in the homeland.”

Your father laughs, a land resting itself on his bell; your mother whacks you with her fan again, but a smile forms on her face.

“Be modest Kazuki, but not that self deprecating” Your mother says, now fanning herself. “I forgot how hot it can be here. I don’t miss it.”

“Who thought my solider wife would be the one to first complain about the heat?” Your father laughs again, bringing your mother close in a hug --only to be nudged away-- prompting yet another burst of it. “Seriously Rei, you were the only one born here. You would think you’d be the last of us to complain about the humidity.”

She mocked glared at him before giggling and returning her eyes to you. “Seriously though Kazuki; we’re proud of you. You’re a firebending prodigy; you mastered the art when you turned eleven. We want the stuffy old guard to have no reason to dismiss you. We are the wealthiest, most valorous, and most distinguished family of the Colonies, mainlanders can’t afford to ignore us anymore. We should expect them to offer betrothals or to act as a host family while you school here. Fire Lord Ozai might take you in….or offer you Princess Azula’s hand in marriage. But that requires you not to give them any excuse to dismiss us.”

“I might be the same age of Azula, but that seems unlikely,” You say, looking at mother with more than a little disbelief. “Isn’t she supposed to be some sort of firebending prodigy too?”

“Yes, she mastered the art around the same time you did in fact,” Your mother says, beaming proudly. “Fire Lord Ozai has to pay attention to that.”

Your father frowns at that, “That might not be a good thing. If Kazuki manages to show her up, that would make us look like upstarts, worse traitors.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure. Fire Lord Azulon was very interested in mingling...bloodlines,” Mom almost whispers. “The curiosity might have passed onto his son.”

Your father’s face grows stern, as he points a meaty finger a you. Being assigned such a sedentary position as Governor of Haefa Hu Xin hadn’t been good for his figure. “Do not repeat a word of this to anyone. It could be considered treason, you hear?”

You nod in the affirmative. Such speculation could be considered slander of the highest order, implying that the royal family treated it’s members like pigrats. Your mother meant nothing by it, in fact admired the pragmatism, but peasants might not take it that way.

>When we arrive, do I have to head to the guest quarters in the royal place immediately?

Honestly, Azula's still viable by this chart.
She's EASILY 9 (maybe even a 10 when she's telling us how sharp our outfit is, that shit's adorable). And as long as we move in before she murders anyone or loses her only friends, we MIGHT be able to pull her back from going FULL psycho, keeping her crazy around an 8 or a 9.

The ostrich horses drawing your carriage come to a sudden stop, and two valets in elegant red tunics open the door to it. Your parents step out one after another, taking the place of the two servants at the sides next to the door; standing like two statues. Suddenly, all the time you spent practicing etiquette failed you, your parents actions being as meaningless as ones in a surreal dream. Just by route routine you step out with your head down and keep the door open for the valets who would park your carriage.

You see your parents nod, and sigh, knowing you did the right thing. Still sweat drops down your brow and you feel like you could mess up at anytime. You needed a break from this already.

“Father, Mother...may I explore Capital City a bit before I have to attend the gala? It’s not going to start for an hour.

“Sure...but be back on the four. There is no such thing as fashionably late in the mainland, understand?” Your mother warns.

After nodding you run off, just taking the sights of the city in. You imagine to a true outsider or foreigner the city might look intimidating; the city outline looked haunting curved and edged and the ground laid thick with midnight black obsidian. It was obviously built on a volcano. To you though, it was mesmerizing and even nostalgic. You were finally home.

In the corner of your eye you notice something. Down an alleyway, an obese man in a bloody white apron and two guards raced after a small child in a torn overalls holding a pile of steaks. He looked thin and pale, if you said so yourself.

>at early stages of childhood Azula was already manipulative
And then her own mother decided to near completely withdraw from interacting with her, driving her further under her father's wing. Gee, I *wonder* why she wound up a maladjusted psycho who doesn't understand basic human interactions. Could it be that she was a product of environment?
I mean the whole theme of Zuko's arc is that nobody is BORN evil. They become it. And by extension that very few people are beyond redemption. If Azula was just, born evil with no way to avoid it, that completely undermines a theme present in the series.

“Hey,” You yell, watching as the three men act completely oblivious to you, as the kid falls on his ass, the steaks flying up into the air and landing softly in a pile on his head, as if it were a plate. “HEY, I’ll pay for the steaks. Leave the kid alone.”

“Really?” The butcher says, his look of anger melting away. “Sure just give me about 15...”

The guard shakes his head and approaches the child, lifting him up with one hand and letting the steaks spill onto the floor. “No can do, this boy was caught stealing. In other cities, maybe, you can choose to refuse to press charges, but in Capital City, we charge thieves for the thefts they commit, no matter how small. Now move along kid.”

Kid? You get angry. “Now you listen here…peasant. You are talking one of your betters here and I command you to let him go, the butcher and I will come to an accommodation; the child has been sufficiently scared.

The guard drops the kid, and suddenly grips his sword. His fellow grabs his shoulder. “Lee...don’t. This kid might be for real. You don’t want to cut some noble brat’s finger off; you’d be sent to the stockades or reassigned...”

“I do buy him, I just don’t care.” Guard says, unsheathing his sword. “You aren’t my commanding officer, spoiled whelp, and you aren’t from the royale family either. You don’t get to boss me around.

An older, plumb man with white hair in fine red and black clothes steps you front of you. A cup of steaming tea is in his hands and a friendly smile is on his face. “Most excellent. I’m be sure to inform my brother of your steadfast loyalty and commitment to duty….but our jail cells are full enough as it is. Let the child go and leave the spoiled...what was it you called him? Whelp? Come with me.”

To your shock, the three men immediately drop to their bellies, faces kissing the floor. The child looks up at the old man and quickly mimes them.

“Thank you sir, but I still have to pay the butcher.” You say, walking towards the butcher and not bothering to even glance at the old man. He was no doubt someone important, or related to them, but the man had lost a good deal of money thanks to the poor kid’s shenanigans. Only fair he get his money back.

The butcher don’t move his head, but immediately starts cursing. “Fool, don’t you know who that is.”

“Probably some general or something.” You say, dropping a gold coin in the man’s hand. “There you go. And hey kid, don’t steal stuff. Butchers don’t make enough money to lose a steak here or there, got it?”

The kid remains silent, but the fat man laughs. “You’re right, where are my manners. I’m sorry sir, I almost cost you some money.”

You look back towards the old man and give him a polite bow. “Thank you for assistance, I’m sorry I can’t properly demonstrate my gratitude but...”

“I know, I know you have a big party celebrating your coming of age at the palace,” The old man says, “Don’t be so stressed I’ll vouch for you.”

You fold your hands into a sign of gratitude. “Thanks, it’s my first time in the city and spending another large dusty building isn’t my idea of fun.”

“No problem, these parties are wasted on the youth anyway. You lot want to foolishly enjoy the sun, laugh with friends, and see interesting things. You don’t know just how fulfilling obligation and polite bragging...wait is it you lot who are foolish or us?” The fat man asks, scratching his chin.

You giggle. “Sorry for asking this, but who are you?”

The old man laughs. “Prince Iroh, and I don’t mind whatsoever young man.”

“Prince? Wow.” You say, flabbergasted. “Wow, Azula a half sister or...”

Iroh roars out in joy, almost falling down to his knees. “I know I look young for my age, but no, she’s my niece. I’m Fire Lord Ozai’s brother.”

You bow deeply this time, as is proper when greeting royalty. “Thank you. I’m so sorry for wasting your time my….”

“Relax, go have some fun.” Iroh says, patting your shoulder.

“Once again, thank you Prince,” You say. “I was going to get a cup of tea and some ramen, would you like to join me? I’ll treat, it’s the least I can do!”

Iroh hands over his empty tea cup to one of the guards. “It’s more than enough, let’s go!”

The two of you make your way to a slightly off the beat path, into a slightly dingy but flavorful little place. One entire wall was covered in seashells, while another was filled with local, amateurish but enduring art; you didn’t know if that drawing was supposed to an elk hare or bunny moose, but was nice to look it. You begin conversation with the type of sycophantic questions your parents or other nobles would ask, with questions about the good tea houses in the city or if he had heard of your land’s latest concoction, called iced tea.

“Cold tea? Like Ice Cream?” Iroh asked astonished. He had stopped eating, which given the quality wouldn’t have been suprising if he hadn’t stopped drinking the Oolong tea, which was excellent. “Part of what makes tea so great is….”

You put a hand up to stop him. “I know what you’re getting out, but no it’s still a liquid and it just has ice in it. We mix it with strawberries or dragon fruit and it’s so sweet and delicious, you’d love it. I’d love to stay here and chat, but I’m about a half hour late for my own party and the Fire Lord will be attending any minute now. I don’t think my mother could stand the embarrassment of me coming after he left. ”

“Let me escort you there young lord, if only to stop you knowing that Princess Azula’s would be even greater.” Iroh says, sweet smile still on his face. Despite the kindly old grandfather demeanor, he didn’t even try and stop you from paying for the bill though. “I think Zuko will be plenty peeved too, but he’ll be polite enough to calm down your mother.

“Wait both of the Fire Lord’s children are already there?” You ask, panicing.

“No, just my nephew. Ever since his spat with Admiral Zhao, he’s been on the outs with the Fire Lord. Azula is too busy with her studies and her position on her father’s council to attend on time and for the whole event. She’ll pop by with her father, tell your parents how gallant and handsome you are if she’s in a good mood, and make noncommittal statements about agreeing to courtship between the two of you. The Fire Lord will write your parents a letter four months from now turning them down gently.”

> Any advice on wooing her?

Probably impossible, definitely diffucult, shakesperean in it's stupitity too. But it could be fun and cool. But way too early. We know jack shit and have everything to lose.
>>
>>2661625
right but we are a kid from bumfuck nowhere in the fire kingdom! We want to do well for our family and as a kid what better way could we think of helping our family then by taking a shot at impressing a royal?
>>
>>2661611
I was just throwing in my thoughts on the matter. Not trying to promote or incite metagaming, sorry if it seemed I was.
>>
>>2661640
Because our parents already stated, if we make a bad move, either by upstaging her or just being disrespectful, we'd have a terrible time? Or a guy who's many years our senior, garners great respect and is also a member of the family said we basically are here for looks.
>>
>>2661625
Yeah I get it, we're probably not gonna do shit. I just thought it would be a good idea to get some info on how to avoid any major fuck ups when we inevitably have to interact with her. I never thought we were going to be wooing, let alone marrying her.
>>
>>2661607
I don’t think anyone ever did.
>>2660803
Bring back Earthbender Quest.
>>
>>2661654
The asking about wooing might be much. I'm down with being nice to her, without being afraid though. We're still young enough to not get that. Also, we're apparently a badass. So there's that. Basically I'm saying let's just stay the course with this character. Could be a ton of fun. Especially if we turn this already crazy world upside down.
>>
yeah I think the consensus is to just be nice, not try to woo or anything just treat her like a human being....at least that is my vote
>>
“Yeah, I’m not that interested in marrying someone I barely know anyway.” You say, shrugging your shoulders.

“Wise. They say only the poor can marry for love; the nobility has to marry for the people, but how many bad marriages have haunted dynasties? How many neglectful parents ruined who could have been perfectly happy and competent rulers?”

You notice a tone of hurt in the latter statement. “Say, if I was woo Azula though, how would I do it? Might as well try and make parents somewhat happy. How many neglectful children, have ruined otherwise good parent king and queens?”

“She likes power, or at least she thinks she does.” Iroh says, a ghost of smile on his face. “We’re here.”

Sure enough the eight guards blocking the first gate of three into a rear entrance parted, the lines of guards at each door doing so a couple of seconds after the previous setting. Just long enough in your opinion to get a look at your faces. You look at Iroh, still surprised he was royalty and that he commanded this level of respect.

When you enter the guest quarters, you notice just how full it is, and how important. Each person there was wearing the red, oranges, and blacks of the Fire Nation flag, but each one was intricate in it’s own way and made of exotic silks and fabrics that most have cost more than those eight guards made in a year, pooled together. You gulp and your throat tightens when you see that...and your mother marching towards you, her face controted into a grimace of pure rage.

“What did we agree to Kazuki? What did we...” She began before her eyes set on Iroh.

“I know he made a promise to you,” Iroh says gently, warm smile magnified. “But helped me stop a robbery. Without his help the thief might have gotten away, your son is quite brave and kind. He even paid the poor victim back for what the crook stole”

Your mother looks you and then back at him. “Is this true Kazuki?”
“Well yeah, but...” You start.

“But nothing.” Iroh says, wiping tear from his eye. “His honor is astounding; such a patriot and so considerate at such a young age. Governess Rei, you must be so proud to have raised such a fine young man.

“We are,” Your mother says a little blankly. “Go talk to the guests honey. This is your party.”

>Supremely shitty parenting. The shittiest.
And all too often, Ursa gets a pass on that shit. She's to blame, too. For pushing a VERY young Azula away, and right into Ozai's influence.
Azula at that point is a lonely little girl who's already a bit off. Her mother pushes her away. So she goes to her father for affection instead. And he manipulates her into a living weapon.
>>2661607
Ty Lee. Mai, kinda-sorta (though fear and wanting to get time with Zuko are also present as motives for her).
>>2661658
We have one big leg up in either befriending or wooing Azula. We're a fellow prodigy. We can match her, force her to push her limits, and push our own in turn. Her competitive side will hopefully find that irresistable about us.
>>2661661
Oh we absolutely should NOT try to put the moves on her. We all know that just results in crashing this boat with no survivors.

>Go talk the gloomy girl

>>
>>2661701
Ursa was whitewashed big in the comics. She laughed at Earth Kingdom cities being razed to ashes. It was her idea to assassinated Azulon; her long term plans are what set Avatar in motion.
>>
the only decent Avatar stuff is the show. the comics are trash and the movie....

Korra is only good for porn.
>>
>>2661666
>Go talk the gloomy girl
>>
>>2661701
To be fair. Ursa was in a supremely shitty situation too. She was just also pretty autistic. Ozai is pure evil AND worst dad, Ursa was just a shit mom. Also, for the prodigy bit, we have no idea how that will go. What we do know, is we're in a crazy new situation. One where we expected to mostly be ignored or possibly fail.
>>
>>2661707
She really is the Yui Ikari of Avatar.
A manipulative bitch who, through her machinations, holds as much blame as (if not MORE THAN) her more visible, easy to hate husband. And who gets a free pass from most people due to the plot only ever involving her indirectly.
>>2661714
Fair point about the prodigy bit. Mostly it just means she MIGHT not dismiss us out of hand as a bug she could crush without any trouble.
>>
>>2661720
Correction, manipulative is a poor word choice.
Treacherous would be more precise.

You walk over to the teen with the burn covering the left side of his face, including near over his eye. You grab two drinks and a plate of appetizers and stroll towards him. His eyes meet yours, and there is a cool disdain in them. Though you wonder for some reason, if it’s for you or himself.

You hold the drink towards him. “How’s it going man. Food good? This the drink you want because I can call someone to...”

“You’re more than a half hour late to your own party,” He says grumpily, grabbing the drink off the tray. “I know you don’t want to be here, but neither does anyone else. It’s a chance for our parents to play polticis and the sooner you play your role, the sooner the rest of can leave.”

“Yeah, sorry, I got busy exploring the city with Prince Iroh and...”

He almost spits out his drink. “You were with Uncle? Figures.”

“Uncle? Wait, you’re Zuko!” You exclaim.

“Congratulations, you figured it out.” Zuko says, unhappily.

Meh, while we could point finger that she did this or that, there is a difference to being manipulative and pragmatic, in a world where evil has all the power, and the power to kill you and your family, over going full cleanse the earth and crush anything that isn't my tribe. He even goes full joker voice. It sounds simple, because it is. The whole idea is that as long as you aren't so far gone that their isn't any hope, there is hope. Azula definitely got a bad bit of fate though.

I'll admit I have a rather intense personal dislike for neglectful parents.

“Why are you even here wasting your time with me? Your sister is only showing up to turn me down gently.”
Zuko just looks you for a moment with a mixture of sadness, anger, self hatred, and a stew of other negative emotions. You’re pretty sure he wasn’t going to say anything when he opens his mouth. “Because I’ve been basically kicked out of the family. He’d send me away to some outpost or something if it wouldn’t embarrass Admiral Zhao.”

“Why? How would it embarrass Admiral Zhao...what did you even do?” You start, not able to help yourself.

“I questioned his judgment during a war council; which my father took not only as an insult to Zhao, but to himself as well.” Zuko says, grabbing an appetizer and gobbling it down.

“What? That’s insane. That’s what war councils are for, to consult the Fire Lord. Debate isn’t personal, and even if it was, it’s to help the Fire Lord make an informed decision.

Zuko is looks like he’s about to say something else, but he quickly shuts his mouth.

Exactly, we’re already a young, rich and well connected noble in the Fire Nation (who are winning the war)

Think we need some personal quirks or flaws to balance out this great start.

The quickness to anger / elitism which we’ve already displayed with those guards is a good start.

As a noble from the colonials, we’re ‘new money’, so our parents would have drilled us to be super conscious of our social class and the entire class system.

“Sorry for bringing up something so heavy, want to see if I can score up some better appetizers, or better yet something that’s actually alcoholic?”

To your surprise, Zuko gives you a wry smile. “Sure, there is some Bau Xin Volcano Red Wine hidden around here somewhere; follow me.

You do and as you hide behind an auditorium with him and after the equivalent of two glasses of wine you feel a nice buzz going on. You guess you are kinda of a lightweight. You stop yourself before you truly get stinko and ruin this day for your parents; as it is you could still get away with it, as long as you don’t open your mouth for too long.

You and Zuko spend the next ten or so minutes chatting about various little things. Apparently that gloomy girl you almost flirted with was part of the New Nobility as well, and Zuko’s girlfriend. Mai. That girl in pink was Tye Lee, part of a large and old noble family that was now impoverished but rich with honor. You’re parents would like if you chatted her up. They were also Azula’s best friends. You even tell him a little about home and your younger brother who was an Earthbender, Daisuke. Your grandmother on your father’s side was an Earthbender herself after all.

You are about to say more, when wind instruments being winding up and blowing hard. You never did like Fire Nation music, it was too hard on ears, yet bland at the same time.

Two shadowy figures with golden blazes atop their hair descended down a staircase. You could hear the mass of people bending their knees. It didn’t take a clever man to figure out who had finally arrived.

Let's be nice (enough), then get back Zuko.
>>
“If you excuse me Prince, family obligation calls,” You say, throwing up an arm goodbye.

Zuko returns the favor, “Well, I wish I could tell you good luck.”

You wiggle your way out of the hiding space in the auditorium and make your way back to the party proper. By now the Fire Lord and Princess Azula had parted and were doing their own private meet and greets with individual people. You grab two cups of juice and put on the politely dumbstruck smile your parents taught for this occasion.

You don’t have to work too hard at it. The Fire Princess is very pretty, no beautiful. Better, or worse, yet in a very severe way that went well with commanding demeanor. How many servants and lesser nobles had she already dismissed in the most insulting but socially acceptable way possible.

“Princess Azula, thank you so much for attending my party,” You say, with a fake hint of a stutter. “Forgive me for being so presumptuous, but would your highness like some cake.”

“I won’t and do I look like someone who eats cake?” Azula starts, before looking over at the table and back at you. She looks you up and down, like looking over a coin to see if it’s counterfeit. For a moment you even think she might bite you. “What type of cake are you serving.”

“Lots: Butter, Maple, Coconut...” You list off.

Azula grabs the drink out of your hand and walks over to the table. “Come with me; today will be my cheat day.”

For such a pushy woman, Azula waits patiently for the line around the table to let her in and even holds a spot open for you with her. Her eyes do look down greedily at the slice she takes for herself and you though. She doesn’t bother to ask you what flavor or type you wanted, but she does actually cut and serve you an equal sized slice. When you leave with your plates, she starts talking to you again.

“The only reason I’m here is out of respect to your mother and you.” Azula says bluntly, taking a piece of cake into her mouth and squealing. “Unlike the other idiots who try to get me to marry their idiot, inbreed dullards, she has legitimate reason to think we’d accept the match. Your family is about as old a salmon tadpole, but it’s wealthy and influential; the linchpin of the Western half of our new empire. We’re going to have to strengthen our ties the Colonial nobility if we ever want to create a new continuity in the region. The last thing we want is you lot not to feel like the Fire Nation is your real home and sympathize to greatly with those you rule. Marrying you would annoy the old guard, but delight the Colonial nobility without actually increasing their station. They too are matches for the royal family, so certainly they will get the respect to the gentry over on the mainland? Your mother is actually quite bright. Maybe we can marry off your sister to Zuko.”

“Thanks?” You say uncertainly.
>>
>>2661998

“Why? I didn’t compliment you yet.” Azula says, turning her eyes to eyes, once again...examining you. “You certainly cut a figure, those muscles and that jaw. Perfect for a propaganda poster. You were also certified a Firebending master before even more. The youngest in Fire Nation history. So many of your kin are hollow, handsome faces and even more are fat, spoiled pigs without looks or a brain. You are quite lucky.

“Thanks.” You say, almost gritting your teeth.

>So, how’s the cake?

>What do you mean propaganda posters? Also sure my family looks out for itself, but we have your interests at heart.

>Ah, you cut a nice figure as well?

>Hey you’re no slouch yourself….say, would you like to spar sometime

“Hey, your no slouch yourself Princess,” You say, grinning. “Say, would you like to spar sometime? Going against someone renown for her skill as much you would be fun.”

Azula looks you a moment, her eyebrow raising for a second. “So you’re one of those types; a man who loves battle and adventure...and it’s all so boring and juvenile. Still you have a reputation for having an extremely valuable skill set and that personality, as annoying as it is, goes well with it. Very well, I’ll make the arrangements with father.”

You offer a hand and beam even bigger. “Wow, I get to train with the Fire Princess, jeez, how many guys can say that? Thank you, thank you!”

Azula looks at you like your an idiot for a moment, but takes your hand. “Okay. You know, your the first person who’s talked to me who hasn’t run away or just said yes all the time. Why?”

You don’t know why, maybe it’s the wine, but you forget to give her a typical dishonest, but curtsy type answer. “Well, because my lame personality likes fights and adventure. You’re also kinda cute and I kinda am used to mainlanders acting rudely towards mel so it was pretty easy letting your abuse slide off my back.”

Azula just stares at you for a moment like you had just turned into a dragon. You know faux pass you committed is extremely vulgar and also just blew your opportunity to fight perhaps the most talented Firebender in the world. You feel yourself wincing like a stroke victim.

“I could have your tongue for that, you know that correct?” Azula asks, venom thick in her voice. “why shouldn’t I?”

“Hey, your ‘I cut a nice figure’, was kinda out of line too right?” You say, sweating. “Besides that valuable skill set you mentioned.”

“Right. You better hope you are as good as they say you are.” Azula says, walking away from you. “One week from now, so you better prepare.”

I'll admit I'm entirely unfamiliar with those. Any recommended links?
>>
>>2662575
It was on Aaron Ehasz's blog and tumblr. To be brief: Zuko and Katara get together, Toph reconciles with her parents, Subtype benders are the villains, Aang finds the Air Bison and a surviving group of Air Nomads,

book five would have been Zuko's mother and Azula coming back as the big bad.
>>
>>2662586
Ah ok so they're not COMPLETELY wiped out, just no Aang or any known ones. Got it.
>>
>>2662594
More than that, I'm also going by earlier comments by the creators, if one studies hard enough and believes in the philosophy, they can become a bender of the respective element.
>>
>>2662662
So could we theoretically see multiple element benders?
>>
>>2662679
No, that is solely the Avatar's deal. Only you are enlightened enough to use multiple elements
>>
>>2662764
Whitewashing can also mean to rewrite or overlook negative actions or characters traits. Ursa was a racist warmonger who killed to advance her family and was somewhat neglectful to Azula who had mental issues; she was just a good mom, caring, and not megalomaniac like her husband or daughter

hmm maybe you should make him show up as an old man so we can learn airbending or just keep everything as it is and keep him alive but him being also an avatar
>>
>>2662976
Or he could just have been killed with the rest of the air nomads. There's still plenty to do without him around.
>>
>>2662986
he is valuable for his airbending right now, IF he isn't an avatar.

Also its a free character, already written and everything. Why not to add it?
>>

But he can't be around or we wouldn't be the Avatar. They kinda have that THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE rule. Plus he's a past life we could eventually tap into anyway.

You sigh and plop down on a nearby chair; you taking deep, slow breathes. Things were going so well too, but you had to keep opening your mouth. Though her rude, arrogant demeanor made you think the rumors from court and the gentle warnings from her uncle and brother made you think that you might have actually lucked out. Those thoughts are fleeting though, you’re parents are going to pissed about it if they hear what you just pulled.

You have barely a minute or two to yourself before people come up to greet and talk to you. It doesn’t surprise you too much when a mob of girls around your age asking you if you’d like to get some punch or tea pretty blot everyone else out.

“Please, lord Kazuki, lets have some lemon cake.” a gaunt girl, whose about four years older says, grabbing your sleeve.

“No, no. He looks patched; lord Kazuki lets get some of the dragonfruit and pineapple punch, it’s to die for.

You approach the small mob of men circled around Ty Lee, a line of girls following you like a tail. You noticed none of them were being threatening, but all were being plenty aggressive with the girl. No yelling, but they were practically chanting out their demands for answers to her.

“Seriously, who do you want to get punch with?!?” One muscled man in his late teens yelled.

“I dunno, we don’t we all get it together?” Ty Lee laughs nervously. “I’m just having so much with you all, I don’t want stop partying.”

“Okay, but who are having the most fun with?” A mousy twelve year old asks.

Someone about your or Ty Lee’s age, pushes him aside. “Forget all that, would you like to have dinner sometime? With us being escorted by parents or some trusted chaperon presence of course. I wouldn’t date imply that….”

“I would, let’s go out sometime!” One of the guys yells.

Ty Lee looks increasingly anxious and you can’t blame her at all. Of course while you intended to come help her, the group around her just shoots daggers at you when you approach. None of them are even mildly intimidated by even with a harem surrounding you, or they are and are doubling down to prevent you from ‘scooping her up’ under their noses. No, you just unite them against you.

“Hey, this half peasant wants to bother Ty Lee.” The muscle man sneers. “Why don’t you stick to Shepard or milk maids, or whoever you in the colonies date and leave someone of good blood like Ty Lee alone?”

The mob of men cheers, while the girls behind you hiss. “Listen friend, I think you have the wrong idea.” You start.

Someone pushes you and then Ty Lee cries out...and throws a barrage of punches. Each one instantly taking down each man or women it lands on. And on ie heading right towards you…

As she throws a fist at you, you calmly bring your own hand down hard at her wrist. With as fast as she’s throwing her straight at you, with that stance in particular, it’s very clear the idea of being parried was completely absent in her mind. Well, she was scared and you think she didn’t think through what she was doing. Now she was going go cartwheeling into the air and onto the floor for trying to sucker punch you. You were a prodigy Firebender, it should have been obvious you had to be at least a talented martial artist, shouldn’t it?

Sure enough, she begins spinning in the air. Unlike like in your imagination though, she doesn’t do so wildly; in fact she seems to be at home mid air and spinning around. She lands gracefully as cat, but on her hands, on the table right back of you. Some of the girls scream or cheer in applause, for whom and against whom you can’t tell. The men remain twitching on the floor. Ty Lee flips up onto her feet and stares at you, no anger in hers, just surprise.

You glance around and see the entire host of guests and dignitaries looking at you. Both your parents are as red as apples with rage and embarrassment, but it seems all focuses on Ty Lee.

>Pretend to cheer. Ty Lee everyone, she was kind enough to give us a marital arts demonstration

>Get up on the table with your drink and pretend to dance awkwardly, ‘Yep, it’s one of those parties. Yeah”

Just as your parents and another pair of adults in their forties or late thirties, whom you guessed were Ty Lee’s, advanced towards her, you put your middle fingers into your mouth and let out a loud, long whistle. Everyone eyes are now on you, though you know this would be only briefly unless you acted now.

“Wonderful, truly wonderful Ty Lee; your going to have to show me how you pulled that move off sometime.” You say, joyfully. “Give it up to Ty Lee everyone, that was one hell of a martial arts demonstration. You are a true master.”

For a second you don’t think they brought it; the wave of clapping started somewhere it the back but quickly swept up even your mom. Other whistles and much louder cheers are so loud you can’t actually hear Ty Lee when she opens her mouth. After staring around at the crowd, she finally figures out what’s going on, and takes a hesitant bow to a much louder cheer.

Eventually the crowd disperses, even that of your admirers. The party seems to be wrapping up when Ty Lee corners you after some old count Count, who tells you to enjoy your youth and offers you a student’s spot in the Royal Fire Benders Academy; not remembering you were a certified master and had every right to teach there.

Ty Lee smiles, sheepishly for the first time you’ve seen her. “Thanks, sorry for trying to whack you.

“No problem, it really was quite a display,” You say, brushing her off her need for an apology. “Hey my family will be sticking around for two week; would you mind giving me a couple lessons...in whatever that was?”

“S-sure.” Ty Lee says, smile becoming much brighter. “I’ll be free tomorrow, if you don’t mind. Then I’m back at the circus.”

“Circus?” You ask, completely taken aback.

Ty Lee ignores or doesn’t register your skepticism and mild condescension. “Yep, circus. I’m a trapeze artist.”

“Okay, that’s...neat.” You say, not wanting to be rude. You knew her family was poor, but that poor. Well you’re not one to gossip. “That’s fine.”

You exchange pleasantries and then addresses. She leaves right before the party ends. You make sure to keep her address away from the other girls’, as so far it was the only one you were interested in. Once again, you weren’t the old guard, you could wait for marriage or betrothals for awhile yet.

You are about to head back to your parents, when you notice...the Fire Sages? Yes, a group of six men and women in black robes were at the entrance of the guest hall. You notice they are watching you, but you’re parents are heading right towards you.

You approach and Fire Sages, making sure to bow just as deeply as you had to Iroh or Azula. “To what do I owe this honor, honored Fire Sages?”

They look at one another, and surprisingly return your bow. “We are trying to figure that ourselves young master.”

“Master?” You say, looking them over nervously. Each of them looked at you gravely. “I’m just some Governor’s son, I’m not royalty.”

“No, you’re not.” Another answered you, growing grimmer or more respectful? Maybe both?

“Okay...I don’t get what you’re saying.” You say, looking them over.

Your mother taps your on your shoulder. “It’s time to go now Kazuki, we’ll see off the adults. Go to your quarters on the forth floor dear.”

The Fire Sages say one more thing before you make up the stairs and out of your sight. “We’ll be watching your sparing match with Princess Azula with interest.”

Your about to look back, but both your parents have blocked them off and were muttering praises to them now. If you interrupted them, they’d never forgive you. You still get can’t get them out of your mind as you make your way down the grandiose halls, adorned by various armors or the skulls of dragons or other exotic beasts affiliated with firebending or the Fire Lord. It even haunts your dreams, as you sleep away on the feather bed they provided you in your room the size of small house.

Until at least you see a dark skinned girl, in the blue and white fur thick coats you remember from your studies. A water tribe girl.

She’s crying and surrounded by water, all of which dances around her. It seems to act like a cage as well, preventing her from coming to your room, trapping her on giant chunk of ice that looked like it could fall apart at any moment.

You dive headfirst into the water and paddle towards her. You expected sharp cold pains to engulf you, but you feel nothing. You don't feel tightness around your chest or throat from not breathing, you don't even feel cold.

You continue onwards towards her block of ice and the water current floating around her parts for you. You take the chance and reach out to touch her, grabbing her arm. She stops crying and looks at you dead in the eyes.

"Who are you?" She asks.

"Kazuki." You say smiling. "More water than I'm used too, but hey, that's why they call it a wet dream."

"What?" The girl asks before turning around suddenly. "Stop, you killed all the waterbenders here, you can stop.'

A familiar burned face stands in front of her prone body, the water now entirely gone and replaces with a trail of fire. "No, we haven't. But in a moment I will have."

Zuko. You reach out to block him, but you're far too late. When his flamiing fist hits her, she lets out a scream and then there's nothing but black.

Then you see the light. A bald boy with blue arrows tattoos on his body and glowing eyes stare at you.

"You must must go the Southern Water Tribes. You must go continue your training soon." The boy says, his voice booming like thunder. "You must restore balance to the world Kazuki. You're the only one who could do it. Or you will be the Last Avatar."

Suddenly you see a map of the Earth Kingdom and the Water Tribes...and see them curl black as smoke blows into your eyes.

"You must make a choice; your nation or the world.

“Who are you?” You scream.

“I am Aaang. I thought I was the last Airbender and I knew I was the Avatar, but there are others. Another will find his way into your life soon.” Aang says a sad smile forming on his face. “Soon the Southern Water Tribe will be destroyed. If it perishes, so too might your chances at finding a waterbending teacher.”

“But I’m a firebender how can I learn...” You start, before stopping yourself. “You said Avatar does that mean...”

“Yes, you are the next Avatar.” Aang says, smile gone. “Ozai in his arrogance and pride will try to break and use you; you are young and you have been indoctrinated into his cult for all your life. The truth can not be hidden by lies however, no matter how dark.”

“But he’s right. The Fire Nation is...” You continue, and then there is darkness again.

You feel someone poke you in the chest. “It’s time to wake up. You made plans with that fine young noble girl remember?”

“Mom?”

“Well to you and your brother, yes.” Mom answers, laughing a bit. “To everyone else, it’s Rei.”

“Did I say anything in my sleep.” You ask.

“Yes, and it was gross and I don’t want to discuss okay, honey?” You mom says with fake cheer.” Now hurry up or you’ll be late for your date.”

You face palm. “It’s not like that, we’re just friends, Mom.”

“Don’t worry, I trust you not to do anything to dumb.” Your mom repiles, now in the kitchen. A servant brings her a plate of food, mostly fruits.

“Hey, Mom?” You ask carefully. “Is Fire Lord Ozai planning on invading the Southern Water Tribe?”

“What a silly question,” You Mom says, looking at you reproachfully. “He plans on putting all the nations under his wise rule.”

You frown at that, but get up. You eat a very light breakfast, you were about to work out after all, bathe and get dressed. You make sure to tip each servant who does each task for you well, like Father taught you. They might be peasants, but it was important to foster personal relations with the man who puts on your pants for you or the woman who washes your back.

You take the ostrich horse carriage to Ty Lee’s address...and see an entire squadron of guards outside her dilapidated estate, along with a much finer, and larger, carriage parked in front of you. Odd way to spend their money, you’d think they’d fix the house first. The where known for being penny pinchers in fact.

You shrug your shoulders and head in, you’d fine out soon enough or it wasn’t your business.

You tried to take in the surroundings a bit, but you couldn’t. There were too many guards and soldiers lining the walls. You do notice however that each one bows to you. Suddenly you remember telling your mom that you were just friends, but ugh, this seemed like a precaution the opposite effect. You sigh and finally find an open space, away from all the hallways.

In the middle of it, you see...Azula? You look around, and in the hallways above you, completely surrounding sit dozens of nobles and generals. Somewhere in the midst of all of them was Ty Lee, who waves at you happily. The Fire Sages were huddled together in a group, their eyes solely focused on you. Your eyes finally set on Fire Lord Ozai, who sat right above Azula, on a makeshift throne.

“Welcome, young...Kazuki, wasn’t it?” Ozai asks, smugness radiating off him. “I know I rented out the guest wing of my house to your family yesterday, but this is our first time meeting each other isn’t it?”

You fall not to your knees, but prostrate your entire body. “Yes, Fire Lord. I’m honored to serve you.
“No, no.” Ozai says, a preadtory grin spreading across his face. “The pleasure is all mine. You’ve meet my daughter yesterday, and made plans for next week. I know it’s rude of us to interrupt your training session with Ty Lee here, but Princess Azula has certain responsibilities, so we’d thought we have that spar now.”

“Thank you Fire Lord Ozai” You say, your throat going dry. “But….”

“Don’t worry, after this is over, I promise you Ty Lee will start training you in her little marital art.” Ozai says. “You have ten minutes to prepare.

You don’t bother waiting; you take off your coat and let it slide to the floor and throw your shirt to the side. You flex your muscles, stretching them out to prevent any tears or pulls, and get into standard firebending stance. You keep your eyes on Azula.

“Thank you Fire Lord Ozai, but I don’t want to keep you,” You smirk. “You’re a very busy man, correct?”

Azula looks you up and down, fingernail tapping on her lip with each beat. “Not bad, not bad at all. A little lean, but you do take care of yourself. Is that way you were made a master at eleven though? Or was being in shape and being able to puff out smoke enough to give you a passing mark to some Earthbender who was filling in at whatever provincial school you went to.”

She got into stance as well...and immediately fired off a jet of blue flame. You slide down out fo the way at the last minute. A blue flame...but that’s impossible. The cold, passionless fire; fire was a life giving, art of feeling as well as war. How was that even possible?

You see her second flame heading towards you, and dance out of the way. The third and fourth fireballs don’t even concern you; you just weave out of the way for the dual blasts. It’s when she brings her hands together and two waves of fire are about to crush you, that you finally bend to estinguish the flames and let loose a burst of your own.

Azula doesn’t even dodge, not really. She cartwheels into the air, doing a backflip quick, over your attack, while letting loose another of hers. You dodge, easily, but realize in that moment the rumors about her weren’t overstated at all. She was arrogant, vain, and one of the deadilest benders you’d ever seen.

You stay your ground, but keep your firebending entirely defensive. You hide that of course with feints and fake out attacks, but each fire you create never was made to hit Azula. You learn a lot.

Azula is clever, but you already knew that. What you didn’t know is just how careful she was. She wasn’t playing with you, you know that now. She was dissecting you; seeing what made you tick. She was doing the same exact same thing you were, but with a longer goal in mind. She just had one problem, she was still underestimating you.

You let her think she’s actually challenging you. In between her blasts of fire and large whips of heat, you hop and duck and sidestep out of the way. You even let a few attacks singe your hair or your pants. Then you finally make your move.

You pretend to stumble and Azula presses her nonexistent advantage, doing a leg sweep that spreads fire across the ground. Instead you merely hop on one foot a tiny above it and let out a quick, but long lash of flame yourself. Azula tries to move out of the way, but fails by the skin of her teeth.

You scorch the back of her outfit and drop her hard to the ground. Still...she lands on her knees and twists into a defensive position that allows you little room to press your own advantage.

Her hands glow a bright, crackling blue

I feel as if the mystery option would be reacting and suddenly bending earth or water and revealing we're the avatar. Might just be paranoid though

I'm assuming the mystery option was an Earthbending wall. But, I hope it was actually redirecting it.

The lightning COULD be interpreted as the product of a prodigy
We are one of the youngest in history and on par with azula afterall
>>
I just realized, if we learn Chi-blocking from Ty Lee, future Avatars will have, thus no one will really be able to mess with them.
>>
>>2664560
Eh lightning is something that a determined firebending prodigy could probably learn with time. Its gonna be a hard sell but its doable.
>>
Hoping for a massive lightning explosion like the one in iron man 2
>>
>probably made Azula cream herself
>Ozai probably knows we're the avatar
I personally think it might have been worth it.
>>
>>2664571
It would make a lot more sense than 'suddenly energybending lion turtle'
>>
You know what motions she’s making, you’ve done them yourself and know what powers she’s playing with; removing yin and yang from another and then let nature correct itself in one of the most dangerous techniques, Unleashing lightening itself from your body and directing out of you with your hands. Easily a lethal technique that could destroy a warship, let alone a human, if it hits you, it’s going to hurt.

Of course, that just means you unleash your own where Azula is aiming. You think half way between your own motions with your hand movements. Until that point she was taking her own fine time though, you were all business. You beat her by half a second.

Two bolts of pure power slam together, air not crackling but booming with the impact of it. Your vision completely fails, as a bright light explodes near Azula. You land on your feet and get into a combat stance, but that is out of pure instinct and training beat into you, by your mother. You hear Azula reel around on the ground, while people in the audience cry out in pain from what your lightshow is doing to their eyes.

You feel pebbles smack into your face. After three or so seconds, you open your eyes. And in time as another blue jet of flame zooms by your face. You lean back and snap back up and see Azula with a feral smile on her face.

>End
>>
>>2664578
Lion turtles did appear twice in the series before that. Plus the story of the first Avatar showed they could give and take bending.
>>
>>2664602
Azusa is now angry, and possibly horny. We aren't training with Ty Lee today, Azula is going to want us for herself.
>>

>>
>>2664603
Pretty sure it's more the fact that Aang just randomly stumbled upon a Lion-Turtle. If he had actually gone looking for one to teach him then it'd have been more palatable.

>>
>>2663043
I am not sure about having a dragon companion. The amount of problems one can solve when you have a dragon and they don't approaches 0, which would complicate having a good story.

I would rather have a small weak companion that is constantly useful and part of the story than a dragon that just gets us from A to B.
Unless we could get known as the Avatar that always fed his enemies to his dragon. That changes everything.
>>
>>2663777
Why not this?
>>
>>2664779
What do you mean problems that one can solve if we have a dragon and the other guy doesn't? Transport is one thing but the eastern styled dragons of the Avatar-verse aside from being incredibly rare can fire bend, hell they have their own way of fire bending that is different from most fire benders.
I'm not sure if it's an advanced form or better than others but it seems to be fire bending in its purest form.
>>
>>2664811
I think that's what he means. The dragon could solve most problems because of how strong it would be. Just about any fight we get into could be won by having the dragon torch it.
>>
>>2664811
Me angry. Me have dragon. Dragon eat you. Me no more angry.

That's what I mean about problems that solve themselves if you have a dragon and the other side does not.

Of course, they aren't immortal, and on the verge in extinction etc., but imagine, how many problems could Aang solve if Appa would have been a motherfucking dragon and not a flying bison?

If he would have been willing, the dragon would have been able to solve at least 50% of his problems by live demonstrating the daily meat diet of a dragon, and the ineffectiveness of armor vs arm long teeth.

General Zhao? Yummy.

That Komodo rhino gang? Well, now they need something else to ride.

Fire nation ships? Might as well be so much as cinder against a flying, mobile dragon.

It is like having an additional team member that can attack, if that member would be stronger than the rest of the team combined. Which I argue is a realistic comparison, the dragons we saw in that episode in book 4 were massive.
>>
>>2664899
Dragons have been killed farily easily in Avatar by benders. The Fire Nation hunted them to near extinction in a hundred years. Iroh had to lie and say he wiped out the species to get jackasses to stop hunting them.

A Dragon would be a little stronger than Appa, not a game breaker.
>>
>>2664899
>>2664986
Appa could airbend as well and I think they kept him out of most of the situations because he's a bit identifiable and they want to go for stealth, if things go tits up for us, even if we have a dragon we're going to want him to stay hidden and out of sight otherwise it just helps those who would be hunting us.

You have no time to lose, a missed opportunity would be enough to grant Azula the win. The advantage was still yours. Even with that smug, serf satisfied grin on her face. She might be finally interested in this fight, but it might be too late for her.

>Sweep a blast of fire across the floor towards her with your leg, and when she tried to dodge it, slam her in the chest with another blast

Shit dude, she need more foreplay before getting dick-crazed. Lightning is cool and all but can he survive her true rape-train?
>>
You crouch down, hands planted down onto the ground, while one leg spins you. You jut one leg like a whip right at Azula; a sweeping row of fire emits from it heading right towards the girl. The flame wave is far too long and wide for her to strafe out of the way; the only way that Azula could dodge the searing heat was to jump. Your first was also gaining motion and ready unleash a second burst as soon as she did.

Instead of merely jumping, Azula lets does a few basic, quick hand motions. A jet of dark blue flame erupts from each of her palms, each at her sides. She zooms into the air, far to fast for you to react it and hit. Your punch of fire goes wide, and she actually preposition herself behind it before flying off again. You lost her.

You aren’t dumb though, you twirl around and get into a defensive stance. She enough heading right towards you. You punch two more fireballs at her: she dodges the first by just sliding out of the way, and the second she flips out of the way.

It takes you just a little too long to figure out what she was actually doing. She was concealing a back kick slip; sneaky little…

You disperse most of it, but the force of it knocks you back and your sure the heat seared you deeply. You fall on your back and instinctively roll out the way, avoiding Azula’s strike to the head with her other foot. You sweep out your foot and let out another burst of flame, driving Azula away and to the other side of the sparing arena.

Her hands glow, a crackling light blue again…

You bring your hands down to your thighs and give Azula a feral smile of your own. “I’m a pretty quick learner, Princess. You’re going to regret showing me that.”

You bellow out a dragon’s roar through your mouth and breath through your hands. The sudden heat brings a sudden flood of sweat from your forehead. You could feel the tile beneath your hands not only blacken, but outright melt into a pool of black and gray goo. You could hear individual tiles either explode or smash into the walls near you and the guests. But you don’t feel any force push at you, nothing to propel you upwards. You know jumping wouldn’t help at all.

Azula grins. “It’s alright, plenty of boys get nervous and have performance issues.”

She throws the lightening at you, you move out of the way before it could strike you directly in the arm...but even as it wings you, down you go. A shaking fire sets off all across your body, your legs and arms dance without your input or want. This jib continues even after you’re face first on the ground.

“We need a medic down here. He worked so hard on those abs, it’d be a shame they ended up like Zuko’s face.” Azula says turning around and facing her father. “He’s good father, a genius, but he’s not up my level...let alone...”

Your strength doesn’t return to you, you are still wiggling like a worm from her attack, but still find something in you to get up. Something deeper than stamina or endurance. A need. You’re finishing this on your feet.

Azula just rolls he eyes towards you and shrugs. “Really? Just stay down before I cripple you. You actually managed to show you aren’t just some provincial flop over his head. You can even bend lightening; everyone is impressed, even me.”

>I know...I just want to admit you’re the better woman, on my own terms

You get into a basic defensive combat stance. Azula sighs and quite disdainfully gets into a combat one, doing the katas a child has drilled into them. Her eyes twinkle like a cat’s though, her posture saying she’s ready to play but also fully intending to finish you all with all she’s got.

You stand there silently until Azula makes her move, whole body no longer screaming pain but eerily numb. She jumps into the air to bring down a powerful kick, that unleashes an even more powerful burst of flame. You spin out of the way. She gets right up to you, something she avoided until this point, knowing you were no longer in the physical condition to truly take advantage of it. It’s a fiery, flurry of fists and feints. You just nudge your body way of the wickers of fire or her blows. She attempts a leg sweep but your bring your knee up and stop it before she’d even think of unleashing fire from it, let alone hit you.

You quickly figure out her stratagem for this, for she still is taking this seriously despite her playful taunts. You’re more wounded then she is and are running on fumes. She is hoping that either exhaustion or pain takes care of you for her, trying to use broad powerful attacks that she wants you to desperately avoid, wasting what little juice you have left or pull something new. But you’re being too clever, too calm for that, and too perceptive.

You are the wind now, she doesn’t know it yet, but she’s blowing to your tune. She might not be as hurt as you, but your lightening blast and previous attack have taken a toll; her movements and attacks are making that cost even worse.

She finally wheels out of the way, trying to get some distance. You grab the sleeve of her coat as she does so. You reel her in and deliver a headbutt.

“That wasn’t firebending!!!” Azula cries.

You hop up and deliver two knees to her stomach and then push her away with a stream of flame from your palm. “No, I told you: I wanted to spar.”

Azula regains her momentum, growling like a tigerwolf, hands emitting the blue flame that propels like a fire rocket right at you, head first.

You loosen up, more than you had before. As Azula flies towards you; you shift your weight completely and put your hands into position. You’re not completely sure, but you think you see a sign of recognition in Azula’s eyes when you do so. ‘Too late,’ you think.

You grab her by the collar and twist around, bringing her weight with you. She doesn’t fight you whatsoever, the bright blue flames behind her only growing in intensity. That doesn’t matter, you shift yourself down even more, putting even more force on her as you redirect Azula to go head first right into the ground.

Redirecting herself that way was never her plan though, instead her fires stop when your too focuses and she digs her long nails into your flesh near your neck, and pushes along with your toss. Azula lands hard, but safely, on her ass. You go skip face first onto the ground.

At least until she juts out her legs; her feet banging right into your head. Your vision gets more and more blury, as Azula coils her legs and thighs around your neck; she grabs your right arm with a free hand and pulls.

“Submit to my authority and superiority Avatar; bow to me like you where born to! Serve and learn; or die.” Azula yells, to the cheers of the crowd. “Or show me one of your tricks. Do you even know them yet?”

You go from seeing mosaic every where to seeing black, “W-worse ways to go out.”

Azula lets out a surprised whelp, “Ah, what? You….Enjoy it while you can…you..”

The pain and pressure are gone, but you are sinking deep within yourself. Somewhere you stop in a black abyss, that covers all feelings and sense of your limbs and body. You feel as though you are floating on an ocean of nothingness. You’re fading way, into less and less.

The boy from your dreams returns in front of you. A tall bronze skinned, amazon of a woman stands next to him in the wardrobe of the Dai Li, elite Earthbenders of the Earth Kingdoms, and another shorter darker skinned woman in fine furs is next to her, and finally, furthest away from you was a man in Fire Sage robes and with a flowing white beard and mane of hair. Their eyes shone a brilliant yellow light.

Your vision is clear now, but you also are not yourself. You are everything. More importantly, you are hovering in the air, above even Fire Lord Ozai.

Azula is tossed aside like a doll, by a whirlwind and block of earth that tethers itself to her feet and hands like bindings. Being thrown like that doesn’t hurt it, from what you can tell, but she has no way of moving her limbs to bend anymore.

Then the energy inside you disappears, and you fall back to the floor. The landing hurts like hell, but you’re alive and somehow, someway you won.

But...you just airbended. And earthbended.

Lord Ozai stands up. “Help the Avatar Kazuki up.”

>Avatar Kazuki?

>If it’s about the training session with Ty Lee, can I postpone that? You’re daughter kicked my butt hard.

>Ozai...it’s not what it looks like I’m not a traitor!

“Avatar Kazuki?” You ask dumbfounded. Azula called you the Avatar...and so did the boy in your dreams.

Fire Lord Ozai smirks, “The Fire Sages informed me last night, right as your party ended. Of course, we had to make sure. You using lightening bending was enough for me to realize they were probably right, that trick you pulled at the end confirmed it. I thought Iroh killing the last one would have ended your line, but I guess that’s impossible.”

You at Azula who was struggling with her earth bindings. “Is Azula okay? Can we get her out?”

“You’re concern is touching, but I have servants who can break a little rock.” Azula snorts. “Just to confirm though, you don’t actually know how the art of earthbending or airbending works, do you?”

“Of course not, I’m a firebender,” You start, before sighing. “I guess I’m those things too, but I wasn’t trained in any of them.”

You looks at Fire Lord Ozai with pleading eyes. “Please, Fire Lor-’

“Stop that, what do you think we are? Barbarians?” Fire Lord Ozai says, a little of his daughter showing in his condescension. “You come from a distinguished line of firebenders. loyal subjects, and capable nobles from the Fire Nation. You know what our great nation stands for and what we bring to the world. You, unlike your predecessors, haven’t been indoctrinated with lies and heresy against the state. You can win us this war, Avatar Kazuki.”

“Thank you Lord Ozai,” You bow, “You won’t regret this, I am your most humble servant. You can trust me never to use those abilities again.”

“Why? That’s what we need you for,” Azula says, bored. She extends a hand to a mallet wielding man who breaks her hand confinements off. “We bringing out our pet airbender out for you and everything.”

“Yes, we need you to start your training young Avatar,” Ozai booms. “We will have you knock down the walls of Ba Sing Se and bring the Northern Water Tribe down to heel!”

“You want me to be a commander?” You ask

“No, more like a...special agent,” Ozai answers smiling warmly. “You will be under Azula’s and Zuko’s command.

“Wait, wait.” You say, remembering what he said earlier. “You said you would have an airbender train me, I thought all the air benders were killed a hundred years ago.

“The Air Nomads were wiped 100 years ago,” Ozai says patiently. “The Air Nomads had children outside of their Air Temples when exploring the world on their pilgrimages and others still studied their failed philosophy enough and found themselves endowed with their abilities. One of which was a very foolish archaeologist working at our higher academies. Very fortuitous that ended up turning out in favor.”

Azula sneaks up behind you, placing a hand on your shoulder. “You’ll be staying at the palace while she and I train you. I will have all the Air Nomad scrolls my great grandfather looted from the Air Temples in your room. In the mourning you will learn the stances and techniques from here and strategy and teamwork with the others from me.”

“Others? I assume you mean Zuko...” You ask

Azula laughs. “No, not Zuzu. He’s hopeless; I mean my friends and retainers Mai and Ty Lee there. The two have served at my side as my left and right hands; you will become my sword which I will use to slice the Earth Kingdom down to size. Rejoice, you will have more opportunity to distinguish yourself than anyone who has ever graced the Fire Nation armies.”

“Firs though, you must assit Zuko in subduing the North and South Poles” Fire Lord Ozai adds.

“Okay,” You say smiling. “So will my parents be joining me here or will they be returning home.”

Fire Lord Ozai and Azula exchange looks. Finally the Fire Lord speaks“Neither, Avatar Kuzuki. you’re parents...have been placed under protectice custody.”

“What?” You practically yell.

“The history of the Avatars and the Fire Nation is troubled as you know.” Azula says calmly. “It is up to you restore it’s honor. Until then, you’re parents are in too grave of danger to go walking the streets. Hiding the existence of you forever would be impossible, so we decided to let it out now, so that when the Water Tribes fall they can return to the Colonies as the parents of a war hero...and not a corpses.”

“Well, if that’s necessary, I understand,” you say giving him another bow.

“It’s only for the time being,” Azula says. “The Water Tribes can be taken in a matter of months, it’s the Earth Kingdom that we think could outlast Sozin’s Comet, so relax. With your actions, the Avatar’s honor will be restored.

“Thank you, Princess Azula.” You say about to repeat your bows to you.

“Azula will be fine, you aren’t some commoner bodyguard, you are nobility.” Azula says, stopping you with her hands.

You still nod at her. “Can I still train with Ty Lee? Her martial arts style is very powerful and I’d like to incorporate elements of it into my own style.”

“Fine.” Azula says her eyes flicking to Ty Lee for a moment. “It is indeed very powerful, which is why she is part of my personal routine, but you do have a lot on your plate with all the styles of bending you’ll have to master. Remember to prioritize.”

Azula and most of the court take that moment to leave. All but Ozai and the rest of the Fire Sages. As they approached you, you felt like an inferno was marching towards you. But all of them were smiling, none of their joy vicious or cruel. While the Fire Sages bow deeply to you, Ozai extends a hand telling you not to return the favor.

“While Azula helped go over some immediate matter, she doesn’t need to know what we are going to discuss with you know.” Ozai says, his eyes having a commanding edge to them. “At least for the moment. Eventually this will prudent to her, but only when the next push into the Earth Kingdom begins and after the war ends.”

“Of course Fire Lord Ozai. I’m honored to serve.” You say.

One of the Fire Sages coughs. “While for anyone else it would rude to be informal with the Fire Lord, there is a special exception for those of your rank; it is actually discourteous. At the very least, one day you will serve as the High Sage. You will have to advise him and Azula on spiritual matters and more. Please be a little more open. Within reason.”

“Sorry.” You say, rubbing the back of your head. “It’s just what my parents taught me.”

“I understand, but it’s one of the many things you’ll have to unlearn when we teach you how to use the Avatar State.”
>>
>>2669117
“Avatar State?” You ask.

“The ability you used at the end to stop Azula from knocking you unconscious.” The Fire Sage says.

“Besides if you are to ever marry my daughter, you can’t just let her think that you’re the same as the servants who pick the pits out of her cherries. Don’t get presumptuous and think that you are her equal, but push a little back.” Ozai says. “You are going to have reach full spiritual enlightenment to see if the traits that granted Azula her divine mandate can be refined or at least passed down. She is the greatest genius the Fire Nation has ever seen, imagine what would happen if her generation wasn’t twice removed...”

“What? Wait marry...” You start saying.

“No, you’re not betrothed or anything. I don’t want to pressure my daughter into anything she’s not ready for; I respect her choices as an individual and want her to choose you, because well...you’re the Avatar.” Ozai says, showing he’s regretting having this conversation at all. Sometime unpleasant he had to sludge through.

“More importantly, that would be the only thing she wouldn’t obey you about,” The Fire Sage says. “She never did care for her mother or the way your marriage worked out for her. She’ll have none of it. Hah, it’d be worth it just to see her show her headstrong lip to you for a change.”

“Quiet Shyu, within reason remember? Honestly your going to make this child as disobedient as Zuko by the time your done.” Ozai says, before his eyes turn to you. Something resembling concern on them. “Hey are you having trouble breathing? Take deep breaths, calm down.”

How though? You thought you were going in for friendly visit to some stranger your mother or hers might have tried setting you up with. You found out you were the Avatar, that it was a good thing, and that you were being lined up for every position possible; every glory and honor on the battlefield would be possible. As long as people sung songs, they’d remember you. Oh and you might be the head of the Fire Sages and MIGHT be royal consort.

But why did you have this nagging feeling. Why did you remember that dream? Balance? What is that even?

I'll let Azula have a face turn, but her falling in love with you wouldn't necessarily do that. When she wanted Ty Lee and Mai's friendship, she blackmailed them and threatened them to 'keep' them,

It's going to be about how you treat her and her issues of abandonment and self hatred.
>>
>>2669187
I do think it is interesting that Kazuki offers her a relationship that she never really had access to. He is near her skill in fighting and near her station with his avatar status. He is closer to an 'equal' to her than pretty much anyone in cannon

This will hopefully let him challenge her ideas in a way that she cant completely dismiss with a casual 'i'm a princess with the divine right to rule' or 'i'm so much stronger than you that what you say doesn't matter'. I'm pretty excited to see how their interactions develop both of them going forward.
