Optimistically, the war will be over by the end of the year.

We hope.

if it's not, it may be that something else crawl out, to join us in the trenches. . .
>>
Tveilirisk has been persuaded to tell us about a series of plans the Pytherians have, involving the construction of a device referred to as the Unity Engine.

We aren't sure of the specifics yet, and what the Sarethian have shared so far is woefully incomplete. But while IntSec puzzles over the details and the frontlines go through their daily fire exchanges, you lot have a proper job.

Imai was converted to a mechanized staging ground, and serves a lynch pin of the Pytherian advance into the Isfelt foothills and forest. Somewhere in Imai, an Archtheurge has been gently decomposing in a grave for the past many years.

And now this next bit sounds heartless, but, Trenchers - you need to find that grave, find a shovel, and get that Theurge's heart.

Whatever the Unity Engine is, we need access to one of the warded research facilities where the Theurges labour away at whatever grand madness they've cooked up this time. And while wards, guns and operatives may get us in, Prime Prerogative of an ArchTheurge will mask our approach better, bypassing the wards. Let's just hope the Pytherians haven't updated their security protocols since this one died.

But.

One problem at a time, Trenchers . . .

TS got off of their otherwise entrenched backsides and did their jobs for one! Behold, the wonders of modern day decryption.

Imai is defended by a retine of pathfinders and theurges, who do the minor mechanical repair work the point requires for any sigilcraft long in the field.

However, as this is closer to the principle lines of Pytherian advance, and a resupply point for their further advances, expect a garrison of Legionaires proper. Unlike the Pathfinders - and as you may have noticed during our lightning raid on Foltern - these clankers put up a /fight/.

Show 'em its still not enough.

We're approaching Imai Station from the south-west, circumventing a previously discovered minefield.

Our prayers go with the brave men of the 11th Regulars.

Of note is a hastily erected BUNKER overwatching this approach - it will be manned, and expect MG fire.

The town itself is a hodgepodge of dead-ends and brocades, so expect sightlines to crash.

TRENCHERS on FOOT can freely enter buildings (brown) through windows ("Find one" with construction, 4 Points) or doors (Look for one with Field Craft).

Mechanized Vehicles are not so lucky, but can trounce straight through the hedge and other small blockades.

Expect the initial resistance to be Pathfinders and station personel. Nothing to worry about. However, the Pytherians are likely to rouse quickly, and the Legionaires will eventually get out of their bunks and put on their armour.

Our target is the Archtheurge Grave, which will be somewhere on site. Either interogate a Pytherian to find out where, locate it, or get a lucky spot. Once you have it, dig it open, get his heart, then *GET OUT*.

We have heard (unconfirmed) reports that Battlewalker Invective recently punched through an attempted push down the Isfelt Forest Trail, and it may be that it is headed to Imai for repairs and refit. Don't be in the area when it arrives, if it does. . .

Questions?
>>
>>2692389
You're saying the Legionaires are all holed up in that bunker? Sounds like an easy job with these specs. All I gotta do is jump on it and bring out the chemsprayer.

We approach Imai, and even in the distance the hustle of the station is clear. They've re-purposed the small village, turning it into something between a graveyard for worn out wrecks and a desperate triage station to keep the cogs spinning in their sigilcraft.

In the distant, a welding torch and a shout. A faint scent of oil is on the air. Picturesque, if one disregards the rust speckled corpses of leviathan like machines.

[ Trencher Turn ]

>ROF sort of models actual bullets spent. Firing one ammo is one bullet. Same with overwatching - no shot, no ammo spent. Overwatched burst? Lots of ammo spent.
>>2691385
>Does this apply if you don't expend ammo, reaching a 6 on a 10 skill with the default 1 ammo shoots 3 bullets?
Specifically, will a roll of 6 on a 10 skill with the default 1 ammo give 3 shots or hits or 3 1d6+2 damage dice with a Chirni 77? Or does extra ammo need to be expended? So 4 ammo at a roll of 6 out of skill 10 with Chirni 77 will give a maximum of 4/5 hits because the bullets need to match the hits made?
>>2687544
>Dodge three times ( at increasing penalty of -1 per attack )
>Attempts versus all three ( at increasing penalty )
If this is from a shot that expends ammo, the dodge works the same as before? From the previous 2 examples, they’d have to dodge each of the 3 or 4 respective hits at a -1 penalty per hit?
>>2687556
>Rolls cap out at 18, so the best possible hit is 3 + 15margin = 18 [melee] dmg.
The number from expending ammo can exceed the roll cap given? So someone rolls a 18 and expends 12 ammo with a Chirni 77 would give a sum of 30, and 15 hits or 12 hits?

>>2692135
Do we get resupplied, focus recharged and stat recharged, or do we have the same amount of items and focus as last mission? So if we had 28/40 ammo in Chirni and 0/12 focus it’d be the same?

Firing one standard ammo gives no capability for extra hits - you fired one bullet.

Firing extra ammo gives the capacity for scoring extra hits.

Firing extra ammo up to the rof of your weapon sometimes also gives a bonus.

If you had 2 ammo and used 2 ammo, you would be firing 2 bullets, and could double-tap your target with good aim - but would not get +1 to hit, since that requires 3 ammo.

The numbers can't exceed the cap - this is precisely to prevent people scoring [12] or [40] hits simply by full auto-ing at point blank range.

Tinkering with the systems reveals the control nodes for the Mines, a watchpoint, an alarm system - and the storehouse that most of the legionaire armor will be in. Useful, if we can take it.

The mines, however, rebuff Trencher Sativa for now - but tit's fully automatic. Nothing in there is offering human resistance by now.

A Pytherian AT gun is turned to so much scrap, but the something moves near the brocade that flanks Bronhilde . . .

You can specify commands ahead of time - simply spending AP to do a thing.

There is no real need to wait for Enemy Phase !

When you spend 7 AP to "control" someone, you have taken 7 AP and put into them to do Control... but you must /use/ it to /do/ something

Does evaluating count as putting AP into it, or do I have to do the mind control action, spend evaluate to increase odds, then spend spare AP to control the person? How long does the control last for?
Was the mind control I did on this Legionnaire different from the Sarethian engineer?

The man throws down his weapon and surrenders - last guardian of Imai station. Then, coming to his senses, the Legionnaire looks longingly at their gun, wages the odds . . . then thinks better of it.

The last guardian of Imai. The Station is ours.

Which is surprising. Why are all these tents empty? Where /is/ everybody?

This man is dead without dying, lingering as only a Theurge blessd by the deeper mysteries of the Flame would. He does not so much cling to life as Life itself is written across his bones in fine, golden calligraphy.

A surgical procedure the agony of which can only be guessed at. And which has bound this seeing soul for decades underground, alive but not, unseeing and unsensing.

It is quite mad, and rather harmless. And desperate once again to sense-see-feel.

There doesn't appear to be much left of the Archtheurge after years in the ground, soaking up worms through the skull and subsisting off of the soulscrap of insects.

At worst, Tr Grommet should have peculiar vivid dreams, flashes of ceremonial procedure, a fascination with candles and a preference for robes and speaking in abstract metaphors.

We can try to Communicate with the Archtheurge back at base, if find someone with the talent (Or perhaps you would volunteer, Trencher?). It could surprise us still. They do appear remarkably tenacious.

... as for what was suggested, it was a jest. Having acquired the Heart (and the Archtheurge's ... essence? soul? imprint?) there is no need to desecrate a burial site further.

And while we are at war, there is no reason we cannot treat people with respect. We sealed the grave up again, left the bones too it. Without the presence of the archtheurge, there should be no danger.

(Just a reminder to everyone, and for those who didn't know, but everyone who lived and in the case of Grommet being revived, (probably) you get a level-up. To explain each of you get to increase a single stat by one, or most of them anyway, you can't improve your armor, for instance. But your Accuracy, Reaction, HT, GRIT, Focus, and possibly others can be increased by one. You cannot for instance increase your action points. Hope to see you all next time this rolls around as veterans, and cheers!)

Given your so far sterling work in the field, Trenchers, I had a chat with Isvind High Command and we've come to an agreement.

They were impressed with the LACK OF NON-COMBATANT CASUALTIES this mission, and want me to pass on commendations for sticking to the Conventions.

Given the tenacity of the Pytherian advance and their slight edge in recent weapons development, various benefactors and corporations (and government R&D) have stepped up to provide the material we use to hold on.

The Chirni77 is a fine example of this, but the rapid fire SMG sometimes lack the penetration capacity of our more standardized rifles. And while using on an assault, kill probability suffers along with a tendency to overcompensate with massing of fire (... trenchers).

I had TA do some paperwork and double-charm the requisition office. We might have a crate or two of some new developments.

. . . evacuation compromised.

The Seventh Legion have advanced into the Isfelt Forest Trail, pushing back the defensive lines. Refuges are flocking towards Isvind, driven before the onslaught of a rapid advance force of sigilcraft, Pytherians and . . . some sort of biomechanical monstrosity, unheeding of bullets.

Trenchers, our extraction window has just been smashed.

There is hope. Imai is defensible, and capturing the station have given us a fair amount of material. The advancing Pytherians cannot over-extend themselves and will have to fortify their gains if they do not wish to be dislodged by a counter-attack. High Command is pledging multiple divisions to buttress the falling defensive lines and attempt to stop the Pytherian's from gaining ground.

And in so doing, they'll send a convoy around the main concentration of fighting, dead-speed towards Imai, and pick us up.

This time tomorrow, we'll be safely back behind our own lines, sipping coffee, laughing at all of this, and with the theurge's heart in tow.

Now. . . we just have to make it through the night.

And I don't think we're alone out here.

>I do have most of the text available, but given the nature of the way photoshop processes multiple layers and game files, it would be more helpful if you list what is unclear.
I haven't used Photoshop much to say anything about how it's stored. I was thinking you would copy all the text in order of the layers seen into a word processor, then paste it back into here to be cross-referenced against or sorted later. Assuming that isn't too time-consuming, I was then going to cross-reference against it to confirm I wasn't misreading something.

If you have an idea for something that would make playing / character generation / understanding the rules easier, always open to hear them.

Give me a few hours to figure out how to reap souls and we'll be marginally less alone. But at least they'll be friendly! Probably. Maybe.

The text dump you provided is the biggest help, even better it's in an editable guide. I'm not sure why, but reading text on an image compared to a document is far more difficult, even if it's typed. I and others have had this problem in the past with stuff like CYOAs. Most of my time was spent simply trying to read the text on the images.

>Crunch (which is just my fancy word for Effect) is what Tech Specialists do. And what Resonance Operatives do, but in a different way. On their rolls, they get base effect (think of it as "damage") equal to that stat.
[Re] and [Te] use it with different images. Yes, it means base effect when doing the class abilities.

Eh, how hard can it be to rip out a few souls, cludge 'em together and tell them to move a robot a little bit. Thanks for the info!
>>

More crunch, more oomph.

The base effect of a Resonance operation = crunch.

Have fire 13
Roll 10
hit for 3 fire

Spend 2 AP (or 2 Skill) to get +1 Crunch.

Eg: +1 Damage or Effect.

Since Manifest is 2 AP, base is 6, you can hit someone for 8 Fire damage if you spend 12 AP.

It may sound initially weak, but unlike rolled damage, it has almost no variance and can be boosted. And a clever sort of Resonance Operative would filch extra oomphf from other sources

( Tip: [Fire] is all aspects of Fire. Ed was conjuring flames. Nothing prevents Ed from gathering flames from one location for extra crunch. . . )

Trencher Grommet, please refrain from channeling the reaping might of the blessed archtheurge inhabiting your skull. It's...

Well look, we can have a long talk about the Conventions of War and international treaties but at the end of the day, you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere and declare that you'll take steps right up until the cliff edge of teaching people how to detonate brains using psionic might, but you won't take that extra step that makes you rip people's essence from their bodies, amalgamate it into condensed vital energy and then infuse a corpse with the remnant soulscrap of someone /else/.

The Theurgical College crossed that line.
We try not to.
>>
>>2697651
And yet to answer you

it is. . . far too easy. And someone with enough [GRIT], [FOCUS], proclivities and lack of morals...

well.

maybe that someone could.

>>2697605
You're welcome. I figured it would help everyone.

>[Pi]lot has no kit
Does this mean [Pi]lot has Sharp Edge as well, in which Sharp Edge can be anything like one's fists? Or does it not have it since they have no kit?
>Multitool is only listed for [Tr]encher class.
Is [Tr]encher the only one with the Multitool, or is [Pi]lot the only one without it since it's the only class without a kit?

Both cases are listed as part of the standard Trencher's kit.

Pilots are plucky and precious but lack Kit.

on Foot Pilots get a pistol (and trencher stats), assuming they evacuate from their vehicle for 4 AP. They do have a boot knife, a Sharp Edge. It does 1d3+M damage as well. Or a wrench. Up to the pilot. Some use a lead pipe.

What they lack is everything else - the Kit is the full bag of grenades, medicine, gasmask, multitool and security vest.

Evacuation is not a good thing, but it may be necessary to preserve a life. Keeping in mind that we can rebuild or refit broken mechs, but the soldiers inside are harder to replace.

>Unmarked Red Circles are Civilians. Attacking and Killing them is not - directly - a crime in the heat of battle. But it is Frowned Upon and leads to COMMENT by HIGH COMMAND.

For mucking about with Thanatosist belief?

--> FROWNED UPON
--> COMMENT
--> HIGH COMMAND

--> [Very Intense] frown.

And then very, very disciplined soldiers with no sense of humour come to ask very very pointed questions.

I'll add that to the guide.

ResOp is the only other class without a security vest?

"But is it possible to rebuild the soldiers, do we have the technology?"

Course! How silly of me, to think of doing something so barbaric to another person.

Now if you'll excuse me Rook, I'll be around the corner. Haven't eaten anything all day and all that blood and viscera and burning flesh really gets the juices flowing.

I got the same casualty percentage, but I apparently miscalculated at the time too. I think I was looking at a prior post for count like you.
