Welcome to Traditional Evolution Game, part 5.4! In this thread, we will continue the evolution of species on Florainsuram. The rules of the game are as follows:
1. Find a creature that is still alive
3. Paste the creature in a pixel editor program like MSPaint
4. Make a noticeable mutation for them that makes sense and is not too major
5. Add necessary format either in description or within its picture, please follow format shown below this post for this
5. Post evo here, with a description of what changed

Now, for do's/don'ts
DO post no matter how shitty your art is! WE NEED YOU! It's not that hard to edit in paint, just do your best!
DO try to use the pencil tool instead of brushes, as it will make it easier to edit linework and recolour
DON'T mutate the same creature over twice in a row! There'll be plenty of family lines in need of love.
DON'T overdo mutations. A creature doesn't suddenly grow legs, intellect and fire-breathing.
DON’T forget the format, otherwise people won’t know where your creature is from or what it eats etc.
DON’T forget to link back to creature you have evolved when posting
DON’T forget to have fun, and don’t forget to post, more players and less lurkers is what will keep this alive
Again, without further ado, let us begin!

As time went on, the continent Florainsuram drifted south, away from the polar regions, becoming warmer and losing it's ice cap. However, back when Florainsuram was still encrusted in ice on it's northern side, a polar species made it's way under the ice sheets. Now that the sheets have melted, the species's dangerous waste has begun to leak.
The continent is composed of following areas:

Northern Fields: Flat region that takes up around 3/5 of the continent, was once covered in ice sheets that prevented the release of huge amounts of chlorine gas produced by it's inhabitants.
Avg Temp: -2°C (8°C highest, -12°C lowest)
Weather: Cool winds, rain and snowfall, poisonous clouds of chlorine

Eastern Fields: Flat region, bountiful in natural resources.
Avg Temp: 6°C (18°C highest, 2°C lowest)
Weather: Cool winds, rain and snowfall, poisonous clouds of chlorine

Mountain Range: Rocky, steep mountains, with large supplies of minerals but low organic content.
Avg Temp -20°C(12°C highest, -40°C lowest)
Weather: Winds at high altitudes, snowfall

Southern Fields: Flat region, every year it is flooded for a few months.
Avg Temp: 12°C (20°C highest, 4°C lowest)
Weather: Cool winds, rain and snowfall, seasonal floods, poisonous clouds of chlorine

Southern Islands: Islands near the Southern Fields, which also sustain seasonal floods.
Avg Temp: 0°C (8°C highest, -3°C lowest)
Weather: Cool winds, rain and snowfall, seasonal floods

Leaf Mats: Living islands, abundant in food but often very small.
Avg Temp: 10°C (15°C highest, 7°C lowest)
Weather: Cool winds, rain and snowfall

CREATURES THAT INHABIT THE CONTINENT: https://imgur.com/a/JqdITCa
Those marked with "E" in the imgur album are endangered species, with the reason for their endangerment being written below the "E", and will soon go extinct, leaving their niches empty and likely collapsing the ecosystem if a replacement creature for that niche doesn't appear in time.

Regions marked with "C" on picrelated are those that are covered in the chlorine clouds produced by Chlorine Phloomps.

The Tapot-Yil are excellently prepared. They are already producing a sodium-rich jelly which they used to warm themselves with (once it touches water) when the continent was still cold. Now, that this is no longer necessary, this sodium is put to another use: To bind the chloride, making sodium chloride, also known as tablesalt. This they extrude into the ground, and to avoid killing their own soil they also spit out excess salt into the atmosphere with new organs on their crowns, often carrying seeds with them.

So successful are these new strains that they even take root up in the northern fields, in the deepest, thickest chlorine.

Chlorine is actually a micronutrient, vital for plant growth, the Beyblu Palm increases in size due to this. The Beyblu used to go dormant during the cold seasons, but as the continent warms that is no longer necessary. It instead goes dormant whenever the amount of chlorine becomes too much, only to reawaken once it's lowered to breathable levels. These states of dormancy can be an hour, a day, or even a week.

The heavy Gourds die in droves, taking the leaf matts with them. Only those survive that somehow shielded themselves from the chlorine: There were a few which mutated such that their cells would solidify when their chlorine intake reached a certain level - nominally temporarilly, but in the oceans of Florainsuram, chloride overdose is a permanent state. So the largest part of the Heavy Gourds petrify as the cells fill themselves permanently with inorganic matter. The once great plants are now little more than leaves resting on dead bodies, artificial lime islands hanging on to the seafloor.

As for what it does to catch prey, It uses its guards as a false wall, hiding behind it and using surprise tactics to crush its prey underneath it.

some Carnoshoffs develop massively oversized glands that can be used to spray fluid under pressure from great distances. Of great interest with regards to the environment, the Carnoshoff's two glands are not the same. Indeed, one houses highly concentrated sodium solution, while the other contains the filtered from the environment over time as low dosage exposure.

The nearly pure liquids collide as a vaporized high pressure mist and undergo an exothermic reaction, resulting in green flame.

Large groups of Carnoshoffs become more and more accostumed to semi-aquatic life. Eventually, hunting in flooded areas, and in medium sized bodies of freshwater proves to be quite efficient, and so the Aquatic Caroffs develop a more elongated body that allows them to swim more swiftly, and develop hoofs that are more suited to an aquatic enviroment. Cartilage flaps are developed near the "knees" of the animal, giving them more balance while submerged.

A group of Fludworms got stranded deep into the southern fields after the water receded and got cut off from the rest of the species. They adapted to life on the mainland by blending in with the color of the soil. Herbivorous species mistaking their mustaches for food created a selection towards shorter feelers. Finally, their limbs developped hairs and glands that produce the same slime they use for their eggs, to anchor themselves at high tide.

Many Cthloomp living in the Northern Fields begin migrating to the freshwater bodies in the continent. They develop slightly stronger limbs, allowing them to have more stable and precise swimming motions. Their digestive system becomes slightly more complicated, with their substrate filtering organs becoming longer, allowing them to properly separate the specific chemical components used in their chemosynthetic processes, multiple glands are developed to aid in this process. A separate system dedicated to the storing and excretion of Chlorine is developed, with its main components being the Chlorine Appendix, where the gas is stored under a vaccum, allowing the difference in pressure to compact the gas to facilitate storage. Theres also the Chlorine Bladder, which is used to remove excess waste, whether the reason being the fullness of the appendix, or the Cthloomp being pressured under stress to do so.

In the southern island chain, the roots of winterberry whips go deep enough to reach mineral deposits. Carried through the network of roots with nutrients, they end up on the top, where over the years, they accumulate to form irregular metallic concretions.
