>>Information

This quest, as the title suggests, takes place in the world of Dragon Ball. You're playing as a thirty (thirty one) year old man named Tofoo, and will adventure through the story of the Dragonball series alongside characters such as Goku, Yamcha, Bulma, Tien, and many others. Through your actions, you can make significant changes to the story, and perhaps even become the strongest fighter on Earth.

>Rules

At the end of each update you'll have fifteen minutes to vote on options. Write-ins are allowed, but I do reserve the right to veto them.

In the event of a draw, the option to receive the next vote wins

Rolls were once used to determine success or failure. But, due to the rather unpredictable nature of the dice essentially making it irrelevant whether or not you made smart decisions, were fighting outside your weight class, etc, we're going to do away with those, at least for the time being.

This quest sometimes uses music, and this website is not good with embed videos from youtube. So, it may be that you want to open youtube links in a new tab so they start at the right part.

I hope everyone has fun.

You don't have to wait very long for the others to arrive. A few moments after you've detected that faint energy in the ruins of Doctor Gero's lab, the rest of the gang appears seemingly from thin air. All of them look to be holding hands, or at least making some sort of physical contact, which tells you that Goku brought them here via instant transmission. They don't look to be in any better shape than when you last saw them, so either Korin didn't have beans for them, or they decided to come straight here.

Now that everyone's assembled, and the Dragon Balls are gathered, you can finally get down to business and call upon the Eternal Dragon to grant your wish. A single wish that will hopefully undo all of the damage caused by Cell, Gero, and the other monsters that have wreaked havoc on the planet.

"Hurry and summon the Dragon," Lazuli instructs anxiously. "Bring everyone back."

Chi-Chi nods earnestly, feeling just as anxious to get Krillin and Ox King back as Lazuli is for her brother. Nobody has any objections, so there's no sense in waiting any longer.

"Eternal Dragon!" you call as you stand before the assembled wish-orbs, holding out your hands toward the seven mystic stones. "By your name I summon you forth! Shenron!"

The seven balls begin to glow, light pulsing from each and joining together in a single mass. There's a blinding flash, and anew light explodes upward, twisting and coiling like a spectral serpent as it races up toward the clouds that have somehow formed above the Lookout. Lightning flashes across the sky, and the serpentine light lets out a bellowing roar, followed by another flash of light. As the light dims above, you are greeted by the massive, green-scaled dragon whose life is bound to your own. He looks down upon you and the others expectantly, lowering his head enough to speak and listen to you.

"I am the Eternal Dragon!" Shenron declares as if this is the first time any of you have seen him. "I will grant any one wish your heart desires. Now, speak and let it be done!"

Time to make your wish.

>A. Wish for those killed by the Androids and Cell to be brought back to life

"I wish for those killed as a result of the Androids and Cell to be brought back to life!" you declare to Shenron, hoping you phrased this right.

The great dragon stares down at you, his red eyes glowing brightly for but a moment before he loudly rumbles. "Your wish is granted. I take my leave now. Farewell."

Shenron's entire body glows, then vanishes back into the Dragon Balls, which let out a great pulse of light before lifting up into the air and shooting off in separate directions, scattering across the globe and remaining dormant for the next year, when Shenron an once again be called upon to grant a single desire.

The clouds roll away, and bright sunlight once again covers the Lookout.

"Krillin!" Chi-Chi shouts as a familiar energy signature pops back up. "And daddy!"

She runs to the edge of the Lookout and takes off, Konattsu right behind her. Goku looks over to Kori and holds out a hand to her.

"Come on, let's go welcome Krillin back," he invites his daughter, who happily takes his hand before the two of them vanish.

Lazuli slips away as well, presumably going to find her brother, and while you expect Yamcha to go after her, he decides to stay where he is for the moment. Many of the others look as though they're ready to take their leave as well, however.

"I guess this is it for now," Tenshinhan speaks up, addressing everybody that remains. "Until there's another tournament, or another villain shows up, I probably won't be seeing most of you."

He and Chaozu wave. "Take care."

The bald-headed man and diminutive, single-haired warrior start for the edge of the Lookout, stopping at the last moment to look back at your son.

"And Trunks," Tenshinhan speaks up. "You've come a long way, and your warning saved our lives. So thank you, and good luck."

Trunks gives the older warrior a respectful bow. "Thank you."

Without another word, the two Crane School students depart.

"I'll make sure to check up on them from time to time," Yamcha promises everyone.

"Hmph, whatever," Piccolo remarks, not seeming to care. "Anyway, we may have a loose end to tie up. Doctor Gero somehow came back from the dead without Dragon Balls. If he can do it once, there's no reason to doubt he can do it again. We need to find a way to put him down for good."

>A. About that, you detected a small bit of energy in the ruins of Gero's lab. It seems like a good place to start

"About that," you address Piccolo. "I sensed a small bit of energy in the ruins of Gero's lab. It seems like a good place to start."

Piccolo looks off into the distance, a purposeful look on his face. "I don't sense anything."

"You are no longer Guardian," Popo reminds the Namekian in a sad tone as he approaches the group. "So you are no longer properly in-tune with the world's energies. Not enough to find something so small."

Piccolo scowls, looking away from Popo. "Fine. Then lead the way, Tofoo. Let's put an end to the crazy old man once and for all."

"I'm coming too," Yamcha declares. "There's no telling what Gero might have in store for us, so the more muscle we have, the better."

You look to Trunks, not even needing to ask if he'll be coming along. Master Roshi, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be volunteering.

"You boys should be able to handle this without my help," he declares. "I'm heading home."

He approaches the edge of the Lookout, and brings his hands up to his face, shouting at the top of his lungs.

"Come to me, Baby Gamera!"

After a few seconds, a spinning shape breaks through the clouds below, ascending toward the Lookout until Roshi leaps down and lands on top of it, spinning as he and his ride disappear back below the clouds.

"We should get going," Trunks announces. "If I know one thing about Gero, it's that every second we give him to prepare is a second too many."

"Everybody grab on to me," you instruct the others, holding out your arms to either side.

Trunks comes right up and grabs your left hand, while Yamcha approaches and grabs you by your right wrist. After a moment of hesitation, Piccolo approaches you as well, placing his hand upon your shoulder with a soft grumble.

"Kai-Kai!" you speak, transporting yourself and the others to the ruins of Doctor Gero's lab.

Much as you remember it, the lab is essentially gone. While there are a few scraps of metal, odd bits of machinery, and some small spaces on the ground covered in tile, there are no walls or doors, certainly no ceilings, and much of the space that once contained the secret laboratory for the Red Ribbon Army's top scientist is now covered in chunks of rock and scorched debris. There's no sign that anyone has been here since the battle that leveled the entire structure, but you know that you sensed something here.

Everyone breaks apart and begins to look around, searching for footprints, blasting away chunks of rock, sifting through debris for anything that could be a clue, but nothing makes itself apparent.

"I found something," Piccolo suddenly declares.

Looking toward the Namekian, you watch as he closes his eyes, slowly turning his head toward a rather large bit of rock a short walk away. He approaches the stone and kicks it away, revealing a hole in the ground. As you and the others approach, you can see a ladder leading down into the darkness.

"A basement," Trunks groans. "That should have been so obvious."

"How did you even know it was there, Piccolo?' Yamcha asks the green man.

Piccolo just points at one of his ears, not elaborating beyond that. Without waiting for further discussion, he leaps down into the hole, and one by one, the rest of you follow, descending into the darkness below.

It's pitch black down there, but that's easily remedied, as the four of you allow your hands to glow with energy, casting light on your surroundings. While everything above ground was destroyed, this place seems almost entirely intact. There are desks covered in folders and papers, tables with dried-substances that you can only assume came from some sort of surgery, a series of monitors on the walls that are displaying only static, and a door on the far side with a number pad next to it.

The documents and folders scattered on tables across the room could be important, so before making your way to the door on the far side, you approach the nearest desk and have a look.

A small statue or doll that looks eerily similar to Android 19 sits beside the folder occupying the desk, which is labeled "#19". Opening it up, you find yourself looking at a series of schematics and charts that don't make too much sense to you. Given that your wife and father-in-law are both scientists, you're able to understand what you're looking at, at least. One file within the folder details the basic design of the machine, another seems to illustrate the energy siphoning devices that the android had utilized, and one seems to be a chart detailing an increased power output, which you think is contingent on how much power he can siphon. There's also blueprints for an explosive device that was to be placed inside 19's chest, allowing for a last-resort self-destruct capability.

Not what you're looking for, but you decide to hold onto the documents in the hopes that Bulma or her dad can make some use of them. Then, you proceed to another table, where you find documents regarding Android 20. Once again, there are blueprints and schematics detailing different systems and capabilities. As you peruse the documents, you also come across notes from Gero explaining that he will be unable to finish his work on Number 20 until he is certain that 19 is fully functional. Notes from a later date explain that 19 has proven to be a successful model, and that the portly android will be responsible for transferring Gero's brain into his mechanical body. Flipping through what's left, you notice that there doesn't seem to be any bomb in Android 20's design, and that, if you're reading this right, Android 20 is a significant upgrade from 19.

You take these documents as well.

Meanwhile, Trunks stands at the door on the far side of the room, entering different combinations into the key pad. Piccolo stands off on his own, but Yamcha is with Trunks, asking questions as your son works.

"Why not just blast the door down?" the scar-faced warrior asks.

"We don't know what kind of security Gero has in place," your boy answers as he enters another code. "And besides, blasting down the door could end up damaging something important in there."

He enters one last code, and the door slides open. Without hesitation, Trunks steps into the next room, with Yamcha and Piccolo following quickly after. You make your way over as well and find yourself in a room that dwarves the previous one.

Most of the space is occupied by a colossal machine, the wires of which are connected to monitors on the walls, and large pods that seem similar to what Android 16 came out of. These, however, are open and empty, so you assume their occupants have already been destroyed. And sitting just beside the massive machine is a large tube, inside of which floats a tiny green figure.

The large machine flashes with a multitude of lights of various colors, providing most of the illumination in the room until Yamcha finds a light switch. The machine beeps, and the monitors on the wall activate, showing views of the Cell Games battlefield, the space where Krillin is being reunited with friends and family, the Lookout, and Capsule Corporation.

"Gero's surveillance drones," Piccolo grumbles. "It looks like this computer's been continuing to spy on us even with the doctor out of the picture."

"A large computer, empty pods, and a developing Cell," Trunks sums up. "What should we do about it all?"

Gather as much information about Gero's research be about theandroids or cell as possible. Bulma could potentially create amazing weapons and biotech augmentations with his investigation.

Maybe even eventually create her own cell-like bioroid or at least stupid powerful androids if nobody's willing to get enhanced with technology

"We should look around for information," you suggest, starting your way around the room. "Maybe we can find out what's been going on here."

Piccolo huffs, clearly wanting to instead just blast the room to bits and be done with it, but he offers no overt complaints. He begins to search along with everyone else.

Trunks walks right up to the computer and has a look at it, seeming like he's trying to figure out just how it works. You aren't sure he's having much luck.

Yamcha approaches the monitors and has a look at what's being displayed, which doesn't do much to help with the investigation as far as you can tell.

You look around for more information on Gero's research, finding a file cabinet in the back corner and opening it up. You find a variety of folders there, with labels ranging from "Red Ribbon Battle Suits" to "Artificial Human Number 7", to "Black Ribbon Army", "Goku," "Tofoo", "Krillin", and so on. You find folders for several more of your friends, a few Artificial Human models, surveillance drone technology, and finally a supercomputer.

You don't know the exact content of these folders, but you're confident that they contain information your family will find interesting. There's no telling what brilliant scientists that aren't evil maniacs can do with the kind of information that might be stored here. With that in mind, you remove each and every folder from the cabinet, tucking them under your arm with the others and stepping away from the cabinet.

Yamcha and Trunks are still right where you left them, neither one seeming to have made much progress on anything. Piccolo, on the other hand, is staring at a particular spot on the ground, a focused look on his face. That certainly grabs your attention, and you decide to go see what he's found.

His face twitches as you get closer, and he gives you an irritated glance as you keep walking toward him, prompting you to stop in your tracks. He looks back at that spot on the ground for a few more seconds, then lets out a yell, his eyes flashing before a section of the floor explodes.

The computer flashes and beeps frantically before a familiar voice rings out.

"Danger!" the voice of Doctor Gero declares. "Security measures activating!"

"Oh great," Yamcha groans, getting into a fighting stance. "What's the old man got in store for us?"

In each corner of the room, panels in the ceiling open, allowing turrets to descend and take aim. Before they get a chance to fire, however, Piccolo destroys them all with his eyes.

"For such a genius, Doctor Gero didn't put much thought into his security system," the Namekian remarks.

"It seemed unnecessary," Gero's voice speaks. "Once you all resolved to train to face me rather than tracking me down, I decided a direct attack on my laboratory, much less the sub-lab, would be unlikely. It seems I made a miscalculation."

"Where is that coming from?" Yamcha asks, confused.

"The computer..." Trunks answers, looking up at the large machine.

Looking down into the newly-created hole in the ground, you see a series of wires and pipes moving deeper beneath the surface. And past those, you see a light, and what looks to be another room. You can faintly see something flashing down there, and hear the sounds of machinery. Based on your time in Capsule Corp's labs, you can tell engineering tools are being used down there, but by who and for what, you can't say.

"You took my life," the computer rumbles. "You defeated each of my Artificial Humans, and even a fully-perfected Cell. And now, here you are, snooping around in the deepest reaches of my lab. At every turn, Tofoo, you and your friends have proven to be the bane of my existence. You may have taken my body and my servants, but I will still have my revenge."

"And how do you plan on doing that?" Trunks demands, his energy spiking as he angrily addresses the computer. "In case you haven't realized it, you're one energy blast away from being finished off once and for all."

"It's true that you could easily destroy what remains of this laboratory," the machine confirms. "But even still, you will never truly be rid of me. Whether in this world or the next, I swear that I will have my revenge."

"I've heard enough of this garbage," Piccolo declares, stepping forward. "You can make all the threats you want, but the fact of the matter is that you're beaten. Gero and his creations are dead. Once we shut you down and kill this incomplete Cell, that will be the end."

The machine is silent.

Piccolo smirks. "Let's end this."

He raises a hand and begins to gather up energy.

"W-wait!" the computer shouts. "You need me to remain in one piece. I contain more information than you could ever dream of."

"I found your files," you speak up, holding up the folders you collected.

"That's nothing!" Gero insists. "Once I was constructed, the living Doctor Gero stopped making use of solid documents and files. Every ounce of data gathered since my creation rests within my data-banks. Destroy me and you lose it all!"

"Fine by me," Piccolo declares, firing off a blast of energy that puts a hole right through the computer, which releases uncontrollable static that shoots across the room and courses along its exterior. Chunks of the machinery begin to fly off of it, and flames begin to emerge. Seconds later, the entire device explodes, sending burning debris flying in all directions.

Shielding yourself from that, you spot Trunks firing off a blast as well, this one aimed at Cell. The tube containing the tiny life-form is obliterated, along with the creature inside of it.

Looking back down into the hole, you can see that the light has stopped flashing, and everything's gone dark. You can no longer hear any tools down there, either.

As the smoldering wreckage around you continues to burn, you force your way down into the hole, smashing through wires and pipes that get in your way as you dive into the room below.

It's quite dark, so you use your energy to cast a bit of light. Nobody else seems to be down here, though there are some tools scattered around the room, a few of which are attached to wires above. Those wires seem to connect to the computer, making you wonder if the machine was somehow using these tools. Frankly, you have no real way of knowing.

There might not be any people down here, but you do see some pods, which are, in this case, closed. You're a bit confused when you see the numbers on each.

13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20.

Approaching the nearest one, you look inside and see the familiar face of Doctor Gero. His eyes are closed, and he does not seem aware of your presence. Moving onto the next pod, you spot Android 19 inside, and each of the other Androids as you check pod after pod. You notice that there are wires connecting all of them, and another wire stretching away from Gero's pod. Whatever that was connected to seems to have been destroyed in the explosion of the super-computer.

There are no documents around, or, as far as you can tell, anything that can tell you what's been going on down here. You now know that someone or something was rebuilding destroyed androids, but beyond that, you still don't understand what's been going on.

You do notice something, though. There's some debris not far from the wire stretching from Gero's pod. Though you can't say for certain, it looks as if it was made from the same material as the pods that are still intact. But, whatever it was, its destruction was so severe that you can't make an identification.

There's a door on the far side of the room hanging open, perhaps a way out for the androids once they're activated?

Just in case there is someone lurking about, you decide to go through the door and have a look for them. You cross the room, using your energy as a flashlight as you make your way to the door. Stepping through, you find yourself in a long, dark tunnel.

You can't sense any energy, but you could swear that you felt a twinge of movement in the air. Proceeding cautiously, you walk down the tunnel, half-expecting a sudden surprise-attack from a mechanical opponent at any moment.

The air is still, but you still aren't sure if you're alone, and so you continue the cautious movement until you finally reach the end of the tunnel, which opens up to a cliff-side overlooking a vast expanse of forest. From your vantage point, you see nobody, and you sense nothing aside from the animals lurking around down there.

Either there was nobody here to begin with, or they've given you the slip.

Movement and an energy signature behind you cause you to reflexively spin and prepare to fight, but you relax once you sense that it's your son coming through the tunnel.

"Father," Trunks addresses as he rushes out into the light. "What's going on?"

>>

We could do that...But the lookout doesn't have much in a way to accommodate Bulma.

"I don't know," you admit to your son. "But, I'm done looking around. You guys can destroy what's left, I'll be heading to the Lookout."

"Alright," Trunks says with a nod. "I'll be there soon."

Your son returns to the tunnel from which he emerged, and you speak a simple phrase that transports you instantly to the Lookout, where Popo has gone back to tending to his gardens. He stops his work upon seeing you, setting down the watering can and turning to give you his attention.

"Welcome back, Tofoo," he greets politely. "Were you able to find what you were looking for?"

You have no clear answer for that. You hope so, and part of you thinks so, but you still have a nagging suspicion that something's going on. In order to ease your mind, you admit to Popo that you aren't sure, and explain to him that you're going to have a look for something.

Making your way to the Lookout's edge, you close your eyes and once more attempt to read the energies of the world, focusing particularly on the area around Doctor Gero's lab. For the next several minutes you attempt to filter out any energies from woodland critters, and soon lose the need to worry about the energy signatures of the others, who all soon depart and go their separate ways. Try as you might to find some sign of someone you missed, you find nothing.

Trunks arrives shortly thereafter, landing on the Lookout and walking over to stand at your left side.

He doesn't say anything, but you can tell something's weighing on his mind.

>A. Ask him outright what's wrong

"What's wrong?" you ask your son outright, not wanting to beat around for the bush or for him to lose his nerve about telling you what it is that's bothering him.

Trunks sighs, his eyes moving downward to stare at the tiles covering the Lookout.

"I was able to help you protect your world," he begins, still not looking you in the eyes. "I gave you a warning, and you made yourself as strong as possible. You fought with everything you had, and in the end, everyone managed to stop Gero and his monsters. You and the others saved your world, and helped me grow as a warrior, and for that I will always be grateful. But, this world is not my world. When I return to my time, I'll have a lot of battles left to fight. Thanks to you, I'm confident that I can handle what's waiting for me. At least, I'm confident I can handle the battles."

He pauses, his voice becoming a bit shaky as he continues. "But...that doesn't change everything. Sure, I can stop the Red Ribbon Army, but that won't undo all of the damage they've done, all the lives they took. I'll go back, and I won't have a father again. Mom will still be mourning for you, and Goku, and Krillin, and everyone else those monsters took away. Kori, Konattsu, they're gone, and with Piccolo and Kami dead, so are the Dragon Balls. I'll be the only one left."

You can see his hands, clenched into fists, shaking, and tears beginning to slide down his face.

"I'm finally strong enough to put an end to all of the suffering, to rid the world of the Red Ribbon Army once and for all," he says to you. "But it's too late to save everyone. I couldn't save Kori, I left Konattsu to face the androids alone, there were so many people that died because I wasn't strong enough."

>A. Tell him that they all fought knowing it could cost them their lives because they wanted to help make the world a better place. Now he has the chance to fulfill their hopes.

>B. Tell him not to dwell on those he couldn't save, but think about all he still has to protect. He has his mother, and countless innocent people that are depending on him.

Then we need to ask if we have ever communicated via King Kai.

And now that I think about that why didn't at least Gohan contact Trunks in the future?
>>
>>2721647
"Don't dwell on the people you couldn't save," you instruct your son, turning toward him. "Think about all that you still have to protect."

Trunks looks up at you, his expression making it clear that your words are already having some effect. It seems silly, but you suspect he'd become so consumed by all the suffering and death he couldn't prevent that he wasn't able to really consider how much he still has. A simple reminder seems to be all that he needs.

"You still have your mother to look after," you tell him, ignoring the pang in your heart as you tell your son to watch Bulma because you can't. "And there are countless innocent people that are depending on you. Think of them."

"Y-you're right," Trunks concedes, his voice still shaking as he wipes the tears from his face. "As long as there are still people that need me, I have to keep on fighting. Mom, all the members of the resistance, I have to fight for them."

Trunks brings his arms down to his sides, bowing toward you. "Thank you father, and I'm sorry."

You raise a brow questioningly.

"Before, when Cell was able to reach his Perfect Form, I was so frustrated...I let myself blame you for not stopping it," he explains, maintaining his bowed posture. "I-I'm sorry. You've done nothing but fight your hardest, and I had no right to place judgement on you."

"You're forgiven," you assure your son, who stands up straight right away, a grateful look in his eyes. "Honestly, I blamed myself a little."

Trunks smirks. "Oh, so that's where I get it from?"

The two of you embrace. After everything the two of you have been through, and after the emotional conversation you just shared, a warm hug seems to be just the thing you need. You try not to feel bad about the fact that this might be the last time you're able to comfort this version of your son, and simply enjoy the moment while you can. You may have had your ups and downs with him, and he's been through a lot of terrible things, but you're proud of him, and, different timeline or not, he's your son and you love him.

The two of you step back from each other, both of you having found your spirits somewhat lifted from where they were before.

"Come on," you tell your son. "Let's go home."

>>

That would be neat. Given the lack of allies there, Trunks could use some help.

Also, i wonder if wishes can affect other timelines, like asking that all the people that died in trunk's timeline or at least kami/piccolo were revived.

Or i dunno, maybe go with him to the future along the dragon balls to do the wish? I dont remember if the years dead limit was a dende upgrade or it was a lazy retcon. Either way i dont remember if it was mentioned in the quest
>>
>>2722235
I thought it was only for mass revives. Which I think we got around somehow, thus Mutaio coming back like he did.
>>
>>2722862
If I remember correctly, that was the Black Star Dragon Balls

>>2722235
Years dead was a thing before Dende, but it only referred to large groups of people
