"Oh no oh no oh no oh nooo!!!" This was it, your last mistake of your short 1000 year life as a ruby. Why did you decide to do this? Honestly? You know it takes 5 rubies to pilot one of these ships and you decided to grab one and try to fly it away all by yourself!?

Okay well if your being honest, you know exactly why you're doing this. You're tired, tired of all the other gems putting you down for being... less smart than them. You're tired of being thrown into whatever battle to be fodder. But most of all, you know you can try and be better, you can improve and break the mold that all other rubies fall into!

On homeworld there's a story, it tells of a group of gems who once stood up to the diamond authority and nearly pushed them back... only to be completely eradicated by the diamonds.

They called themselves... The Crystal Gems

You know that if you meet the crystal gems, they'll be able to help you grow into a better gem than ever before. But before that, you have to try and make sure you don't end up cracking yourself before you get the chance to meet them. Your pod continues to careen itself downwards all the while you begin entering the atmosphere of some unknown planet. You start to panic. There has to be some way to steer this thing with only one of you! Think ruby think!

Ah! It's no use! You have to get out of here! You quickly jump to the top of the of the top and look to the ground below you. You are miles and miles above the surface of the planet and though you have no idea where it is, it seems to be populated

Below you, you can see many buildings which just leaves the question

>Where are you dropping?
>some sort of isolated locale of buildings
>a road overlooking a small town
>Some sort of large sand deposit with a large stone outcropping

>>
You look down to the surface once more, you see a large outcropping of different buildings and structures. Well its a good of a place as any! You rear back and take a running jump off of the pod.

You begin falling fast, the ground getting ever closer as you plummet towards the surface. You don't hear its mechanisms anymore so you can safely say the pod you once boarded is long gone.

You just close your eyes and hope for the best, Rubies were durable, something as simple as a minor crash to the earth wouldn't stop-

Your thoughts are cut short as you suddenly make impact with the ground. You groan and get up, the gem on your chest having miraculously remained uncracked

>Now do You
>Go to look for some other sign of life in this locale

>>
You quickly look up from where you landed

You see... slopes going upward all around you, it looks like you might have hit the ground a little harder than you thought you did. No problem, you quickly spring up out of the hole and begin to look around

You notice buildings, many of them, it would be intimidating if you weren't used to the ones on homeworld already. What is slightly unnerving however, is how all of these buildings seem to look exactly the same.

You begin to walk along the roads looking all around you, the sky seems to have taken on a purple hue. You suddenly stop has you hear some footsteps coming in your direction.

You quickly look around at your current surroundings, there's barely any structures for you to try and hide behind. Quickly you jump behind some sort of soft yet prickly mass by one of the buildings. The steps continue to grow closer and you can't help but to take a small peek outside of your current hiding spot.

That may have been a mistake since you look out of the bush and see someone who you can only assume is one of the denizens of the planet.

"Hello?" The being states, they seem to have these large circular objects covering their visual receptors. They are wearing some sort of cloth covering over their physical form. They also seem to be looking at you with curiosity

In a panic you jump out of the hiding spot and put your arms in the diamond salute

HELLO BEING OF UNKNOWN PLANET! I AM RUBY! FACET-N114 I WORKED UNDER YELLOW DIAMOND BEFORE ABANDONING MY FORMER LIFE AND COMING HERE TO BECOME A TRUE GEM!!!!
...
...
...

There is a pause after your declaration, the being seems surprised. Slowly but surely a smile appears on its face and begins to widen more and more until she jumps with what you assume to be glee

"ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh. I can't believe it! There's another gem here! and she's near me!"

The being pulls you into a specific building, you assume that must mean that this is her place of emerging. It quickly brings you up a set of multiple stationary platforms.

"Okay you need to tell me everything, what's it like on your planet?! Do you have a weapon?!"

This was confusing, why was this being that you had just met asking you so many questions? Why were they so interested in homeworld even though you just told her who you worked under and where. This was highly suspicious, could it be that homeworld fooled you? Could it be that they managed to reroute your ship and sent barrelling right down to homeworld once more? There's obviously no other explanation! This being must actually be a gem in disguise! and if they were sent by a diamond to look after you then they must be extremely powerful!

You couldn't afford to be taken in by the diamonds. You had already commandeered a ship that didn't belong to you. You have disobeyed the direct order given to you by your former diamond. If this being was an agent of Yellow Diamond you needed to act properly.

Homeworld is beautiful, it has huge high buildings and is full of gems going about and doing their daily duties. It is full of advanced technology used to make life easier.

That seemed to be the correct answer as the gem agent smiled and bounced up and down.

As for my weapon. You take a step back and summon your weapon, a singular gauntlet that places itself on your right arm.

"That's incredible! It's like Garnet!"

This also seemed to be the correct answer as the agent... wait a second. Garnet? What sort of gem type is Garnet? As far as you're aware no gem of type garnet has ever been on homeworld during your time there. Perhaps they were a new gem type of some kind?

Um pardon me but what exactly is a Garnet???

Okay time to get this show back on the road

Writing up the next first post
>>
You are a Ruby, your entire life was dedicated to being a fodder soldier that the Homeworld could use as an easy way to get a quick advantage in battle or to defend some sort of aristocratic gem like a sapphire or a Lapis Lazuli. Due to this, you never really had any knowledge outside of what was blatantly obvious about Homeworld or the information that was on a need to know basis regarding whoever your client was. So suffice to say there was a large amount of new information being fed to you by someone who you thought was a simple Homeworld spy. Many things have become clear to you now.

You are not on Homeworld, this being is not a spy, and you just so happened to land on Earth. The colony of the former Pink diamond and home to the rebel faction known as the crystal gems.

The current information that has been relayed to you is as followed, this being is a 'girl' named 'Connie' who is friends with another being known as 'Steven'

This 'Steven' is a member of the rebel faction The Crystal Gems. Who's ranks consist of a Pearl (which is odd considering their subservient nature) an Amethyst (which makes sense considering their soldier status) and the being that the girl called Garnet. You still weren't entirely sure what exactly a Garnet was? Despite that this girl did, she acted as if this Garnet gem was just another gem as you were

"Well that's everything I know, I don't really hang out with them too much because of all my home stuff but I hope that gave you everything you needed to know"

...

>Well What do you do now
>Try and take a second to process all the information
>Attempt to discern the location of the gems yourself and leave the girl alone
>Begin rapidly questioning the girl on how she can know so much

sorry for the delay I got caught up in something
>>
You try to stop and think about all the information that was just relayed to you...

Emphasis on try for as you slowly try to absorb all this information you begin to pace. As you begin to pace you begin to think harder. As you begin to think harder you get angrier. as you get angrier you begin to heat up. As you begin to heat up you begin to...

smell something? you look down and suddenly notice that you'e started a fire inside the emergence place of Connie

"Oh no! my carpet ahhh!!"

She then grabs one of the comforters from some structure in her abode and then attempts to put out the fire by hitting it with said comforter.

Well that proved to be pointless. Its clear that remaining here would not prove to yield any results so you're going to have to try and find The Crystal Gems yourself

Excuse me Connie. She seems to have successfully fanned the flames, impressive

"huh? Oh uh yeah?"

Where exactly are the Crystal Gems?

"O-oh! They live in a place called Beach City"

>>
Where is Beach City?

"Excuse me?"

Where is Beach City? You ask again. If you truly want to become a better gem you can't spend your time here with one of the non-gem denizens of the planet. This Connie has given you sufficient information to know that you need to leave this place and go find the Crystal Gems.

"Oh Beach City is... well its kinda far from here, It would probably take you a couple of hours to get there just on foot."

That's not a problem for me, I'm a gem warriors simply walking isn't enough to deter me!

"Well alright then, after leaving my house you pretty much just have to go straight down the road, you'll know you'll get there when you see the sign that says welcome to beach city!"

Seems simple enough, you turn to leave only for Connie to stop you once more.

"Hey when you get there can you call me?"

You look at her puzzled by her request.

Call you? That would impossible, I'm not aware of anyone named you and as such wouldn't be able to call them.

"No no I mean you have to, uh... actually just tell Steven to call Me"

You simply nod and begin to head out. You walk across the road and begin your journey to become a brand new gem.

and you walk
and walk
and walk
and walk

Maybe now would be a good time to put your mind towards something else? You begin to think of The Crystal Gems, they were the entire reason you decided to come to this planet after all. Well technically you came to this planet by accident but that just meant it was fated to happen! You can see it in your head now, you and the other gems fighting together alongside whatever enemy comes your way! All the while becoming smarter and better than any other Ruby before you! You get giddy just thinking about it!

You continue to walk along the road until you see the 'sign' that Connie had described. You quickly burst forward with great speed leaving a small trail of flames in you wake.

You reach the large sand deposit that she described and then you see it. A large statue depicting some kind of multi armed gem? Huh interesting but no matter, there you see the 'House' that was described by Connie

You go up the stationary platforms and step inside the base. Hmm, everything appears to be dark perhaps this wasn't the right place? Suddenly you hear a very light noise.

"ZzzzZ"

What on earth was that? You walk yourself over the the location of the noise and see another one of the denizens of earth. Perhaps this was that 'Steven' that Connie told you about previously

Well better make a good first impression

GREETING STEVEN MY NAME IS RUBY! FACET-N114 I FORMERLY WORKED UNDER YELLOW DIAMOND AND WISH TO BECOME A MEMBER OF THE CRYSTAL GEMS!

Steven suddenly wakes with a start letting out a loud noise. He quickly falls of the odd contraption you saw in Connie's abode and rears back to look at you shock on his face.

"A-are you another-"

Whatever he was going to say is cut short as suddenly a noise rings out you look to see an odd door beginning to open and multiple gems spilling out

"GET AWAY FROM HIM"
"YOU DON'T BELONG HERE!"
"STEP OF STE-MAN WEIRDO"

In front of you stood a Pearl, an unknown gem and what appeared to be some sort of mini Amethyst? Wait a second... these were the Crystal Gems! They were here! and they all had their weapons pointed at you! and they were coming your way!

You quickly attempt to keep yourself from getting hit by the now aggressive gems.

The unknown one who you now realize must be this Garnet that you were told about quickly approaches you. You manage to summon your gauntlet which allows you to at the very least tank the blow that she throws at you which you do!

You were not so fortunate with the Pearl and Amethyst however as the Amethyst manages to get a grip on your leg with her whip only for the Pearl to smack you with the flat end of her spear sending backwards. You're dazed but before you could even get a chance to retaliate you're picked up and placed in a bubble of some kind.

The Gems crowd around you angry glares on all of their faces.

Well now seems like a good as time as ever right? Might as well ask them if you can join the Crystal gems!

HELLO! I AM RUBY FACET N11- before you could finish the bubble you were being held suddenly collapsed on you leaving you in a dormant state within your gem.

What happened? Did you do something wrong? Maybe it was the way you said it? Did you not say it fast enough? Maybe the Crystal Gems weren't accepting anymore members? Now that you think about it... that's probably the case.

The stories of the Crystal gems did talk about most of them being wiped out. They did use to be an army after all, they probably have no more room for anymore comrades

Oh so you crash landed on this planet for nothing then? Maybe they wouldn't help you become something better?

These are all the thoughts that go through your head as you lie dormant in the bubble. Blissfully unaware of what conversation was being held as you lay head full of confusion and sadness

Your name is Steven Quartz Universe you are the son of a woman named Rose Quartz and a man named Greg Universe. Right now you live with the Crystal Gems, a group of gem warriors who used to fight together with Rose before she gave up her physical form to give birth to you. Right now you are a lot of things, confused, curious, surprised, and even a little angry

W-wait! Why did you guys do that to her!

"Because Steven she, she's not like us" says Pearl, she seems really worried about this whole thing

"Steven, you're not ready to know about where this Ruby came from, it's sudden" says Garnet ever the stoic

"Yeah plus she like totally tried to attack you or something in the middle of the night! Super sketchy if ya ask me." adds Amethyst

But she said she wanted to join the Crystal Gems!

"Steven we are the only Crystal Gems left, she can't join us" Garnet responds

Why not! you question angrily

A silence slowly settles across the room. Pearl and Garnet constantly look at each other, unsure of whether or not they should say something only for Garnet to break the silence

"Pearl send that bubble to the holding chamber, we'll all talk about this tomorrow"

Pearl quickly nods and sends the bubble away before look to you

"Okay, now that that's all over and done with, you can back to sleep Steven! Good night!"

"Good night Steven."

"Nighty Night Steven!"

The three Gems retreat to their respective rooms in the temple leaving you alone with your thoughts

Thoughts that just so happen to include:

I'm gonna get that Ruby out of that bubble!

>>
>>2719387

I'm fairly certain we can get along well with Steven once he gets us out, we can at least repay his kindness.
>>
>>2719393
Sure but even if the fat kid likes us, is it really a good idea to hang around when the other gems may foster some ill will? Who's to say they don't try to get rid of you when the boy isn't around and then just claim you left or something?

Really, should try to make our own way, find some native lifeform to help understand and integrate here. Can even be in this same area/town so that you can keep abreast of those other gems. Maybe in time they'll accept you, but probably not right away like this around their pet human.
>>
>>2719393
That optimism isn't misplaced

>>2719424
and while i understand this point, if Steven likes something the gems wouldn't try to get rid of it. That much is made clear in the show
>>
>>2719445
I've only seen a couple episodes but don't they go behind his back and keep secrets? I figured Pearl at least might pull something like that, try and bump off some other gem if she thought it was a threat or something. Or out of jealousy. So long as Steven never finds out.

You are Steven Universe, right now its nighttime and you just got done seeing a brand new gem that you had never seen before! Before you could even learn more about them though, the gems came in and poofed her! You tried to ask them why but they never really answered any of your questions. Right now you're looking at the door to the inner temple where all the gems live and where all the bubbles filled with poofed gem monsters live. You can't help but feel bad for Ruby! So you're gonna go in there and get that Ruby outta there

But hmm... How exactly will you get to the gem room? Last time you were there it was because you walked into Pearl's room by accident

Oh you know! Maybe you can use your mom's room! You quickly run towards the temple door and place your hand on it, allowing the door to open up and let you in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwcFxffdW5g&index=17&list=PLrzRWRXOC1JDVIJGeOisfOHuXLAx8zfnN

Well here you are!
...
You have no idea what to do next, well all of the room are connected in here right? Maybe you can get to the gem room somehow?

Well just asking the room seemed to work last time. So you decide to do the same thing again!

Room! Give me an entrance to the room where all the gems are in the bubbles!...
Please!

Suddenly, there's a rumbling that begins all across the room. as the shaking continues, the floor opens up and the clouded floor of the room forms stairs leading down to what you remember as the gem holding room. You make there and perk up

Alright! It's time to find Ruby and break her free!

You then realize exactly how many gems are down here and begin to get a little worried. How exactly are you supposed to find Ruby out of all these gems?

Well I guess you better start looking

You looked and looked and looked but you could find no sign of the Ruby anywhere. You keep walking around but can't seem to find anything. With all the bubbles in here it's hard to find which holds the Ruby inside. Maybe you should call it quits? It is kind of late right now....

You're getting ready to call it quits after a good few minutes of searching but then out of the corner of your eye! You see it! It's a light blue bubble that holds the gem inside of it. This is Perfect!

You attempt to reach the bubble only to realize it might be a little too high up for you. But you can't let that stop you! You jump again! You can't reach it.

So you go again
and again
and again

Until somehow you jump just a little higher than you did before. You mange to reach the bubble that held Ruby. Now all you had to do was pop it! You begin to squeeze on the bubble as hard as you can to get it to burst.

You manage to push just enough for the bubble to burst!... accidentally sending you flying into another bubble bursting that one as well.

Oof! You hit the ground with a thud holding the Ruby in your hand.

Nice! you shout now all you needed to do was le-

A sudden growling can be heard as you get up off the ground. You look to see a fully reformed gem monster and it's not happy to see you.

U-uh nice Ice Monster, you're not mad about the bubble are you?

A loud roar is your only reply

Uh oh

It looks like the beast got a little too overzealous since as when it tries to approach you it falls flat on its face. You take the opportunity to run as far away from the monster as possible. That fall really seems to have put it in a bad mood, as it continues to thrash around on the ground as if its having some sort of temper tantrum.

You look to the Ruby lying dormant in your hands and quietly hold it closer to you.

I'm sorry I got us into this mess! I know I shouldn't have come down here but I didn't think what the gems did to you was fair! You should be able to become a Crystal Gem just like the rest of us! But now we're about to be attacked by a corrupted gem monster and its all my fault!

The monster get up and sends out several different ice needles in your general direction. You quickly punch them out of your general direction using your gauntlet. Those that didn't shatter on impact hit the floor.

You quickly pick up one of the icicles and melt it down in your hands. Oh this is gonna work out great! You quickly rush towards the monster and uppercut it sending it backwards a few more feet

You set your hand on fire and run towards the beast one more time. Just as you're about to hit it you hear multiple cries coming from behind you. In a flash the crystal gems have reappeared in front of you, all prepared to fight the monster.

Hey Steven. You turn towards him. Do you have anything that could help take down that gem?

Hmmmm... Maybe I could throw you when you're in a bubble and take out that monster!

S: That's a great idea!

Steven proceeds to put himself into a bubble and gives you a thumbs up from the inside

You nod and pick him up! Using your flame powers to give yourself a little extra oomph you throw Steven towards the monster and he braces himself against the edge of it

Steven soars through the air and flies past all of The Crystal Gems and directly into the offending monster. As soon as Steven collides with the monster it disappears into smoke leaving a gem on the floor.

So...we're a Ruby? Interesting.

ONly makes a body wonder how we'll go over with Peridot. Or Lapis. Or Bismuth. Hell, wasn't there a squad of like five Rubies sent directly from Homeworld looking for what happened to Jasper? I don't even wanna think about the Diamonds themselves at this point.

What I'm saying here is that this poor little Ruby is gonna have her horizons broadened in a big way--it all depends on how far along into the series we are and how much emotional trauma Steven's already been through.
>>
>>2722034
A bit before Lapis shows up. So before any homeworld stuff really. Wonder if we pushed that up at all since I'm pretty sure they can track the ship.
>>
>>2722057

Rubies aren't exactly high up on the Gem totem pole--or at least it seems that way. They're footsoldiers, less than Quartzes on the Gem hierarchy it would seem. In the show, Lapis fucking off back to Homeworld is what sets the whole Diamond shit in motion (Yellow is curious on the progress of the Cluster as well as spiteful over the whole Gem War thing, Blue is still SAAAAD over the Gem War thing and goes back to Earth to mourn Pink's "death", White is still enigmatic as ever). Deku probably has their own plans in place, but otherwise it's safe to assume at this point our bout with Lapis should be the tipping point to get the plot moving.

Deku, I have to ask: is this quest just gonna cover Crystal Gem shit and fighting, or are there gonna be SoL interludes with the citizenry of Beach City, the Townies?
>>
>>2722057
>>2722034
Speaking of lapis, I thought about how a fusion would work. The fusion has the powers of the gems it's combined from, and it seemed like saphire's cold and ruby's heat just kind of negate. Maybe with lapis' water control and MC ruby's flame we'd get a fusion with cloud/weather control. Thunder and lightening powers maybe?
>>
>>2722075
Please no Ronaldo episodes. I'm fine with any other beach citizen, but not Ronaldo.
>>
>>2722094
ronaldo works best in moderation, as seen in can't go back.
>>
>>2722101
I forgot he was even part of that episode. The most I remember him for is that time he tried to kill Lars, him wanting to be a Crystal gem, and him thinking Steven was a snake person. I didn't much care for any of them.

I mean Greg is a pretty understanding guy, so that would depend on how you guys interact with him

>>2722034
>ONly makes a body wonder how we'll go over with Peridot. Or Lapis. Or Bismuth. Hell, wasn't there a squad of like five Rubies sent directly from Homeworld looking for what happened to Jasper? I don't even wanna think about the Diamonds themselves at this point.
Well how we'll go over with other gems is entirely dependent on their views of them in the normal show. Which means you'll just have to see

>>2722057
>Wonder if we pushed that up at all since I'm pretty sure they can track the ship.
Yeah I wonder too?

>>2722075
>Deku, I have to ask: is this quest just gonna cover Crystal Gem shit and fighting, or are there gonna be SoL interludes with the citizenry of Beach City, the Townies?
While I am perfectly prepared to handle one or the other, there are plans to hang out with the Townies and stuff. Whether or not Ruby actually does is up to you guys and the choices you make

There's something I want to say to this but it's a spoiler so I won't

Also let me ask you guys a few questions before I archive the thread

Up to what point have you seen Steven Universe since I'm completely caught up with the most recent episode?

and would it be a yay or nay to having a Discord? I know a lot of people are opposed to them but i think I should say there will be no Discord exclusive content if it is used and its pretty much gonna be used exclusively for telling people when the thread is about to start.

It'll also serve as a place to tell people about my other quest The Legend of Zelda Quest
>>
>>2722179

I don't really care either way. I wouldn't be against it, certainly. I would be fine with it.

As for episodes, it's fuzzy. Hmph. Might have to go onto Kisscartoon and catch up.

>>2722179
I would say only make a discord if you are in danger of not being able to run the quest for long periods of time

Have kept up with the series since the first season. It's been refreshing seeing how the characters have developed over r the past couple seasons, but I'm not too satisfied with a couple of the most recent batch of "redemption" arc finishes

If anything I'm most interested in seek g how well interact with some of the later characters--like Peridot or Bismuth or Jasper. The last one is liable to just up and call us an outright traitor once she gets here.
>>
>>2722582
Oh interacting with Jasper is going to be great. She's like a legend to rubies and she'll hate our guts.
>>
>>2722603
What are the chances that Bismuth will try to break because we're from homeworld?
>>
>>2722743
Depending on how we take certain news we might try to recruit her to our own Crystal gems with Lapis.
>>
>>2722743
Pretty unlikely, it's not like they're not all defectors from home world. She'll probably just go "the more the merrier"
>>
>>2722743

It's unlikely she'd do anything hazardous to us upon first meeting unless we outright state allegiance to Homeworld right then and there. We're fortunate, though--she doesn't make her first appearance until well into the series, when Lion is a thing, Peridot's made her return, and Connie is on her way to being a plucky swordsman. With how far into the future that is we'll have plenty of time to establish ourselves as a Crystal Gem.
>>
>>2723456
Bismuth is interesting because as evidenced by the most recent episodes and even her introduction. She doesn't hold any Ill will for gems on a surface level.

I mean hell she even said she liked Peridot despite her being mainly from Homeworld though they could've explained themselves off camera. She also doesn't question when a certain gem comes back to help Steven and friends fight despite having never met them before. Plus she also knows who Ruby is since she knows Garnet is two people. It wouldn't be a stretch to assume that she'd be okay with knowing that a Ruby ended up joining the crystal gems.
>>
>>2724027
I just hope we can either prepare beach city for diamond incursions or explore the world at large, I mean if you have giant crystal monster things running around that has to have had some kind of effect on mankind, I mean heck the kindergarden is based in America, does that mean that the settlers from Europe had to suddenly deal with giant gem monsters?
>>
>>2724258
That's kind of a murky area. Large portions of Eurasia are just gone, so history is completely different on top of having giant monsters. From what we know the gems have been going around since the war ended and bubbling any corruptions they find so we don't know how much humans are actually aware of.

It's kind of a black hole of questions that gets ignored because the story is about the Universes, not the universe.
>>
>>2724471
Wait what, all of that is gone? When or where was that shown? Dude that's a pretty damn big question if the freaking land mass is gone!

>>2724571
I see what you mean, holy shit there is a lot of questions rising up here, did the gems make a nuke and blow up that fuck off hole? Mineral excavation like where the earth was going to turn into a hollowed out sphere or something? Maybe that was the first stage of it, but also what the fuck happened to Africa and Australia?

Africa looks like part of it got shaved off and smashed into South America for some reason, while Australia looks like it got twisted on its side.

Also where the fuck is greenland? It's just gone.
>>
>>2724621

Well, at least the Americas are mostly okay.

It could have been worse.

Seriously, though. Beach City could really use some National Guard considering how often Gems both Homeworld and Corrupted show up to wreak havoc.
>>
>>2724621
From what I recall that fuck off hole is where that ocean temple from cheeseburger backpack is located. Japan isn't an island anymore either and Greenland looks like it's part of Canada. The gems drastically altered basically all of history.
>>
>>2724664
Oh also it wasn't a nuke equivalent, it was most likely bismuth's and Lapis' working together to terraform it.
>>
>>2724632
>>2724664
Now I am wondering if there is even the same civilizations here, because let's be honest, Russia is just gone. Makes me wonder if perhaps the human civilizations came across the gems and considered them as gods or something.

If nothing else I can't see a government wanting to leave the crystal gems alone nor their tech, for all we know there could be underground bunkers were scientists are trying to understand how gem physciology works or their weapons to try and defend themselves from Alien invasion.

Not to mention the whole fact the Kindergarden cluster is pretty much poised to make Earth erupt like the astroid from Armageddon.
>>
>>2724679
Plus there's all the gem ruins laying around that are untouched by anyone except Steven and crew. Maybe there's a much smaller population in general. It seems like the war was over before there was any major civilizations. There's a lot we don't know about and will never know about because the series just will never touch on it.
>>
>>2724703
Sounds to me like that's just enough to give us grounds to make our own universe out of the stuff we're given, for all we know human civilization might be characterised with crazy tech levels around the world depedning on how much they understand on the crystal gem tech that is working or able to be studied.
>>
>>2724747
From what I've seen around the world they have the same tech level as us. Steven went on a trip with Greg after he became rich and there wasn't anything out of the ordinary.
>>
>>2724769

Personally, I think the writers make humanity in this alternate universe come off as...

Worryingly sedate and willfully ignorant.

The only excitable and knowledge hungry human we see is Ronaldo, and he's played off as a crackpot who's never quite right.

Then again, it could be a result of the CG's being notably active in many historical events as we've seen.
>>
>>2725389
I mean I kinda agree but look at it this way. These humans live on a world where A) massive damage from a war no one really knows about changed the surface of the planet B) strange structures no human takes credit for litter the globe C) the gems did a pretty good job of cleaning out gem monsters except in isolated wastelands or places only a telepad can get to. People know weird shut is there but since no one can explain where any of it came from they just kinda accept it's beyond them. Hell, Beach City had a semi sentient lighthouse right next to town for years and no one cared to try and figure it out until Ronaldo started shit
>>
>>2725389
This! This all right here is what worres me, when Blue came along and stole a bunch of humans for a freaking zoo of all things, did they do something to our genetic structure to make us basically sheep?

>>2725473
All of those things except maybe the crystal gem hunting grounds would be grounds for a highly curious and inqusitive civilization to form around figuring out what the heck alot of these things are and what they do, where they come from all the nine yards.

Also can we talk about Connie? I like her, she's got spunk, what I am surprised about is how her mother who seems like the type to put alot of pressure on their kid to go to college and become a doctor like her, seems pretty damn blase about her daughter getting involved with gem related shenagins.

If anything I'd have expect humanity to be playing a series of catch up for a majority of their time on Earth. If we follow the route of the Civ games, from the Ancient and Classical era's I could see gems and their things being viewed as works of the gods either to be venerated or left alone to not provoke their wrath.

However once you get to Medieval or Enlightenment eras you'd be getting either crusades for the artifacts and sites of the gems or intense study on how their architecture and the rest works. Heck the whole Enlightenment Era was about going back to basics with the way the Classical Era had done it by viewing the human body as it is, not with additions and the like during the Gothic phase.

Plus from what it looked like from what I recalled, the crystals were getting ready to win, but suddenly blue and yellow used the beam of death and only at most 4 gems survived it all? With how many are in the bubble room and the amount of gems needed to fight a interstellar war, I'm surprised humanity doesn't have like a long tradition of either hunting corupted gems, fear of them or just even large areas of the world where you don't go because there are actual dragons there.
>>
>>2725554

In the end, we have to rely on the QM's interpretation here because the show's writers simply don't care enough to flesh out how it's affected human civilization and instead focus on...

Crying. And singing.

...

I EXPECT BETTER OF YOU, QM.
>>
>>2725389
It's pretty odd we've had like at least 3 separate alien invasions over the course of the show and absolutely no government officials showed up.

>>2725554
In regards to Connie and her Mom, she was very worried about it until she saw that Connie could handle herself. After that she got pretty blase but I'll put that up to the fact that she trusts her daughter. I also love Connie, she's great. Though I could probably write a dissertation on Greg as he's my favorite character.

Who's everyone's favorite non gem character?
>>
>>2725608
>Though I could probably write a dissertation on Greg as he's my favorite character.

Your joking right? H-how if I might ask? Cuz no offense meant he seems like the writer's excuse for showing men as bad or unreliable or something

I mean there was tha tone episode when Greg was taking care of his kids, then the gems fucking abduct his kid in the back of his van, some dark conoations about possibly ripping the gem outta baby steven's belly and then suddenly greg catches them with help and forgives them!? The fuck?! I'd be beating gem ass left right and center for that kind of shenagins not to mention Greg seems way to laid back for the amount of shit that is going down on Stevens' lil shoulders. I get letting your kids walk on their own and all, but fuck interstellar invasion forces set to capture him and put him on trial or god knows what else and you don't even own a gun? Or SOMETHING!?

Non gem favoratie character tho probably be Connie as she seems the elast likely to fall apart and actualyl gives enough of a shit to help with teh REALLY big problem, Lars doesnt count because he died on Homeworld and is now Steven's Zombie Slave that thinks he is Larrs.
>>
>>2725627

Far as I know, Vidalia's the only person that owns a fucking firearm within a hundred miles.
>>
>>2725627
Anyone who thinks Greg is a bad dad hasn't been paying attention. Greg gave up everything to be there for Steven. He also realized that once Steven was old enough there would be things he literally can't help him with. He still visited Steven constantly and lives out of a van to support him. You think the gems bought Steven his phone? Or any of the things he had? Nope all Greg. If you've paid attention to the flashback episodes you'd see that Steven gets his capacity for love and forgiveness from Greg. The only actually bad thing Greg ever did was play up a leg injury to be closer to his kid for a bit. Hell when everyone thought Greg wouldn't have roses cannon or it would be broken he knows exactly where it is and it's in perfect shape. Greg is the best. I could go on.
>>
>>2725627
>>2725661

He's flawed, but likable, I think we can agree on.
>>
>>2725389
The problem with the setting is that is semi-alegoric and don't really care very much about worldbuilding. All is functional to the themes that the authors want to treat.

All others aspects of the setting are an after touch and functional to allegory, there is little to no care put in internal consistency, etc. If an aspect of the setting contradict or even just divert from the themes that the author wants to treat, it is ignored.

Great chucks of the setting are left blank because of this. It is intentional. Not really a good setting for a quest.

Many works "suffer" similar problems, to different extents. But SU is a chronic and terminal case.

The way the human population acts reminds me of Alien 9, where the humans are, to all practical effect, a already completely subjugated population. Think of a exagerat caricature of a 110% subjugated late Qing China. It kind of like that. SU just doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>2725627
Buck or Kevin
>>
>>2725668
Likeable definitely. Disagree on flawed. Having to deal with the loss of a loved one and still be a dad is hard enough. Add in the fact that he had absolutely no support network and the people who did try to help didn't think he knew what he was doing at best and actively hated him at worst. On top of all of that he's completely legitimately out of good element. His kid is half space rock for fucks sake.

Greg got a profoundly shitty hand in life and still managed to make Steven who he is. If you've ever noticed that the gems don't get all the rituals Steven has like the clown and go carts on his birthday or fireworks on New year's or any of the tons of events he cared for in beach city, is that Greg was the one doing all those with him and they weren't. Sure he's not perfect, no one is, but I wouldn't call him flawed. At least not more so than anyone else is.
>>
>>2725661
Anyone who thinks that Greg is a bad dad probably didn't get all that far in the show, so you're not wrong about them paying attention. In all fairness, he does kind of come off like the typical bumbling dad archetype the first few episodes, but he does get a lot of nice development and backstory to make him feel like a fleshed out, realistic person. I like Greg all in all, he's a good, everday working guy just doing his best for his son as best he can, and he's actually pretty damn good at it too. I'll never get why he doesnt just live in the house now though, with the thing with pearl squared away.
>>
>>2725720
I think he still feels like it's not his place, plus it might just remind him of Rose too much. Also with how often it gets wrecked or some bullshit is happening in it, it's just plain not safe.
>>
>>2725720
>>2725733

That, and he's probably used to living frugally, even with his newfound wealth.

The cost of their outing to the City and the yacht getting sunk probably squandered any more big purchases he might have had on mind, too.
>>
>>2725793
That's very true and it's another thing I like about him. Money didn't change him at all, every big expense has been something for him and Steven to do. Other than that he's still that guy who lives in his van and runs a car wash.
>>
>>2725848
>>2725793
That's a good point, hell the only reason they went on that city trip purely because he didn't really have anything else to spend the money on. The man is content with a simple life working at his business and hanging out with his son and friends. You gotta respect a guy so down to earth like that.
>>
First off I appreciate that everyone acknowledges Greg as being a character deserving of praise. Genuinely love the guy.

Now to touch on the "terminal issue" regarding SU. I fully understand where people are coming from. However it is understandable considering the situation. Beach City is a town in the middle of nowhere where there's no sort of news station to speak of. I could see government intervention say... if a corrupted gem attacked Empire City or something like that. I mean maybe who knows?

>>2724703

Well according to the show's lore (or at least how I've been able to piece it together), when Earth as discovered it was initally viewed as not having any sentient life on it by the first exploratory craft sent by Homeworld. The Diamonds, seeing how mineral rich the Earth is, set about turning it into a colony world--strip the precious metals and gems, boil the oceans away, you know how that goes. The planet was given over to Pink Diamond, the youngest of the four, for stewardship. Her heart softened when it was discovered how verdant and actually full of life the little blue dot was and, through a convoluted scheme which is full of spoilers and won't be gone into for those who haven't watched all the way up to the most recent episodes, there was a bit of a civil war, any gems not named Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl, or Rose Quartz were either shattered and placed in the Cluster or were corrupted, and the Diamonds fucked off after leaving their little pet project gem shard core to fester in the core of the Earth like a tumor.

>>2725608

Connie for sure. THe latest episodes have made her out to be like the hot-blooded swordsman bro character from a samurai anime

Greg is honestly probably one of the best characters on teh show right now. I mean yeah, when we're initially introduced to the guy we're led to believe he's your typical kinda deadbeat, bumbling, oafish dad character--and to an extent he is. But for the most part it's from him that we get everything that makes Steven, well, Steven. All of that boy's best traits--his compassion, his kindness, his determination and above all his unshakable optimism--were from Greg, not Rose or any of the Crystal Gems. All the other Townies and Connie may help give Steven that human element to balance out his gem lineage, but Greg is what makes that human element stick.

>>2726141

I wouldn't think that corrupted gems would even go to those heavily populated areas, though. Any sort of knowledge of those demigod stone beings that trounced around the world in ages past is probably chalked up to ancient history, and any mentioning of these same beings walking on earth in more recent times is probably waved off as conspiracy theory stuff. All the corrupted gem attacks we've seen in the series that didn't happen at some setpiece location all happened close to or in Beach City--and I think that's mostly because the Gems themselves are there, along with probably the largest concentration of working Gem tech still on the Earth. Draws them in, like mosquitoes to a bug zapper.
>>
>>2726231
I'd agree with you on the last point there, cept don't the gems have to go a hunting for corrupted gems in far off locales? Does that mean there are other locations that have working gem tech because if I remember right there was some green cenitpede looking thing that was inside of a spaceship wreck and it was pretty much scrap afaik
>>
>>2726305
In Korea there was pinks palanquin just barely off the beaten path. There's so many ruins all over the place with no human presence. On the map I put above all the red dots are gem sites.
>>
>>2726339
When it comes to beach city attacks, I'll chalk it up to
A) being in the middle of nowhere
B) being used to the crystal gems because odds are they've been there far longer than any of the Europeans that settled there, and likely accepted by the previous indigenous population that lived there before
C) gem tech, being advanced galactic conquerors, most likely being far too advanced and well cloaked to be detected by human technology
With corrupted gem attacks
I see it as they likely cleared up nearly all the gems already, with the ones seen in the show as the left overs hidden in small, untouched areas all over the earth. Plus, Earth is a planet, people are kind of underestimating just how big a planet is, finding a single persom in the middle of nowhere is really, really hard.
When it comes to effects on the earth and human race, I chalk it up as
A) it may look like a lot of dots on that map but remember that the earth is really big and in the frand scheme of things those aren't more than a few places of note spread around the entire globe
B) these places are either undiscovered by people, or they're minor historical attractions that people already studied and just kind of left alone.
C)gems are the gods, myths, and cryptids of this earth. From zeus to the yeti, they're all actually based on gems our ancestors saw/interacted with.
D) gem tech is rare and simply impossible to activate with human tech beyond certain ways, plus they're old, so they're generally thought to be nothing more than artistic relics. Think of that ancientbattery discovered in a Babylon ruin. It's crazy to think they had that so far back, but the world at large doesn't really care and a lot of people reading this didn't even know there was a battery made that long ago

These are just how I try to make sense of the setting, not hard facts. Just makes it easier to make sense of.
>>
>>2726375
Wait are you talking about that clay jug of acid that was technically a battery because it was made with pottery and some copper wire? That was rather neat, but that was more of a proof of concept type thing and not a highly advance civilization thing.

It be if you were comparing a light bulb made from from copper wire and a potato to a flashlight made of steel and double a batteries.
