_________________________________________________________

In the last session we awoke two thousand years in the future following an experimental treatment. We successfully dug ourselves out of the sealed room and encountered an ongoing sacrifice to a horrifying monster. We decided to save the sacrificial girl by ambushing it and brutally murdering it through repeatedly imploding it with telekinesis at the cost of minor wounds.

This is finally over... You take a look at the creature in front of you. It was reduced to a mangled and foul smelling convulsing corpse at your feet. It probably didn't sink in while you were fighting but those claws can probably eviscerate a bear. However the deepest wound you've got is only up to your muscles. You are either more durable than normal or your suit is tougher than it looks. Probably both. You should investigate that at a later date.

You don't feel tired and you only feel dull pain in your arm and stomach areas. Your knife is dripping with the creature's dark crimson blood and you are covered in random chunks of brain and bones from head to toe. You really hope these people have invented shower. Romans had baths, right? Or at least you could probably find a river nearby. Else the reaction of the villagers would probably include torches and pitchforks.

The girl you've just saved is still tied to a tree. You can see her shoulder poking from behind it and she is shaking from fear. In retrospect, you now probably look more horrifying than the monster. You basically killed it with two strikes in the most brutal and bloody fashion you can think of. Now you need to decide what to do next:

> Investigate the severity of your wounds. While you don't feel much pain those claws don't look particularly clean
> Investigate the monster. Maybe you could take some trophy? It might be easier to prove that you killed it if you bring a piece of it with you.
> Approach the girl. She is probably in shock right now and your appearance won't help but you did this to save her

You decide that you should bring a trophy as a proof of killing the creature. That would also probably help you to explain why are you covered in bits of grey matter and blood. But what chunk of the creature should you take? It should be small enough not to be a hassle to carry while also recognizable as coming from this creature.

Creature's head would be an obvious choice as it would signify that it is thoroughly dead. However it is currently scattered in tiny pieces around the forest as you tore it apart with your powers. However you are pretty sure you can see its jaw lying in the grass. It looks bloodied and smells terrible. It was eating a human person as it appeared out of the forest after all. Absolutely disgusting.

The other choice would be its claws. Each individual claw is 50% longer than your knife and they seem to be mostly inorganic. You could probably scoop out all the muscle and connection tissue from its base and craft something from it. As you poke it with a knife it seems to be somewhere between obsidian and shark teeth in durability. The creature probably loses and grows the claws back in a similar fashion to sharks, which would explain why the connecting tissue is disproportionately weak. Thus you reason that it would be possible to find these claws across the forest without killing the beast.

You also take a look at the spikes on its tail. They are facing backwards at about 45 degree angle and they seem to be prehensile as they sit in a muscled "gum" in its tail. You guess that it could use them not only for additional damage for a tail swing but also as an anchor when burrowing. They could get stuck and prevent it from moving backwards on command and then fold back when it decides to continue.

The last option seems to be the scales. Each scale is almost the length of your index finger and they seem to be pretty resistant to damage. However one splits in half after you hit it with your knife. There are also some kinds of parasitic bugs the size of a fly living below the scales. You could cut out a large chunk of its skin but it would potentially expose you to the bugs which would be painful and annoying. Alternatively you could take several scales but those can probably be found in the forest on their own.

You decide against the internal organs, there would be no way to prove they belong to the monster while also showing you off in a bad way. What should it be then?

> Teeth: They are absolutely disgusting but it is probably not something that it can regenerate
> Claws: You could probably take a hand and a few claws. At least they would prove that you fought it
> Tail spikes: Those are smaller and more numerous than claws. Maybe you could use them like claws later?
> Several scales: lightest way to do it
> A skin cutout: bugs would bite you quite a lot but it would be a direct proof of the monster's death
>Write-in. You don't have to pick only one option. Be creative

You decide that the jaw would be the best way to prove that the monster is dead. It is the second best thing right after the head. How should you carry it though. You don't have gloves and if you put it in your bag it will contaminate your survival supplies.
A quick look around reveals the corpse of a man that the monster was eating. He died from blood loss sometime during the fight. To be fair you don't think even modern medicine of your time could save him as he literally lacks 60% of his lungs as well as everything below about the fourth rib. Well, rest in peace. You slide your hand over his face frozen with a horror grimace to close his eyes. You should come here and bury him later.

You decide that you could use a chunk from his shirt to carry this mess. You hope he would not mind and rip a small piece of the shirt. The teeth are wrapped up and improvised satchel is attached to your belt.

As you do so you notice the strange reaction inside of the wound on your arm. It got filled with whitish yellow substance that rapidly hardened to the consistency of porous jelly. Also the solution is literally steaming hot but you don't feel it and the pain is completely gone, replaced by mild warm sensation. You've heard a little about that in a news article long ago. It was a prototype biological aug for soldiers to seal wounds in bio-warfare conditions. It is some kind of artificial scar tissue that makes it easier to regrow skin and organs as a scaffold as well as literally burns out the infection before sending the immune system in to mop it up. It looks strange but you are glad that you have it. Now you definitely won't die from a flesh wound like most warriors before penicillin.

Now the only thing left is the girl. She is shaking less now and her breathing no longer indicates panic. She is still hiding behind the tree, probably hoping that you'll not notice her. How should you proceed?

> Just cut the ropes and free her. If she runs away it doesn't really matter. You don't really need anything from her for that, you just did what you thought right
> Leave her. She can probably get out herself and you would not have to deal with villagers
> Approach her and untie her. Probably that would show us from a better side

You decide to untie the girl to show your good intentions. You quickly swipe the larger chunks of brain matter and bone off yourself. You are still covered in spilled blood but you should look a little bit less menacing. As you approach you can hear the girl mumbling something. She notices your approach and quietly says "...nsiori kam'd qess pi" before freezing.

This... is not English. Like at all. You haven't misheard it. It doesn't sound like any other language you are familiar with either. Well... duh, two thousand years have passed. Even medieval English sounds really different and it was closer to you than what you've heard now. Looks like you will have to work only with the intonation and gestures.

You move around the tree and the girl locks her eyes with yours as she tries to take up the smallest amount of space she can. Poor thing.

"Hello. Are you okay? Everything will be alright now." you say to her in a calming tone as you try to untie the rope. The girl is slightly surprised but she is still scared of you. She replies with " D... duomq i'ay hal rozemb pi". You struggle with the rope. The girl's attempt of escape made the knot too tight. You resort to just cutting it with a knife and the ropes fall down on the floor. Along with the girl who immediately falls to her knees and lowers her head. From one hand it reminds you of religious act, but you are pretty sure you've seen peasants bowing like that to display their servitude to their lords in some movie. In any case this is a bit awkward.

The girl is still shaking a little and she is still scared of you, which is understandable. What should you do?

> Gesture her to rise up. This is awkward to talk to someone on their knees.
> Wait. She should calm down and stand up eventually.

You drop on one of your knees and carefully place your right hand on the girl's shoulder. This causes her to raise her head and look at you. You smile and place your left hand on your chest to introduce yourself.
The girl takes a moment to process this as she quietly repeats your name. She then repeats your gesture and says "Mi' mopi er Rheia". She makes a focus on the last word. So her name is Rheia. Whatever she said before probably means "my name is", but you need to learn more to know for sure.

You decide to sit nearby, reasoning that it should make her more comfortable. This has some effect as she now sits on the root of the tree instead of awkwardly kneeling in front of you.

The girl then says with a slightly shaky voice: "Agatha, duomq i'ay oboem hal rozemb pi. Caysk i'ay nsiori imsebudim pi am vua oli i'ay?". She has just asked you something. You notice that a part of the first sentence repeats what she said as you were untying her, but everything else eludes you. She notices your hesitation and asks " Da i'ay ymkilrdomk Cenophila sombyobi?". Cenophila. These are two ancient Greek words. You are pretty sure 'phila' means 'friend' but you forgot what the first one means. Counting that there are other people like you maybe it is the name of the country they made? Then she probably asks you if you are from around here or if you speak the local language, which you don't. What should you do?

> Tell her that you don't understand her in English. This will probably convey that you can't understand her language

You grab a stick that was lying nearby and start drawing on the muddy ground. Rheia seems to understand that you are trying to communicate with her so she watches your attempts to explain what is going on.

You draw a hill with an entrance and then you sketch the chunk of the road and the sacrificial tree to show the distance relation. You draw a stick figure inside the pill shaped container indicating that it is supposed to be you. After several attempts you manage to convey that you were asleep for a large amount of time in that thing inside the hill.

Then you draw how you saw the procession and how you decided to ambush the monster. Mud is pretty easy to erase allowing you to convey motion and cause and effect. In the end you draw Rheia with a smiley face after your stick figure has managed to kill the monster. You are not sure she understood the first half well but I think she at least understands that you've killed a monster because you thought that she would be happy. You figured it was the simplest way to put it.

The girl takes another stick and draws several houses some distance away from the drawing and makes an arrow pointing there. Maybe it is her home. Well, it is not like you have much to do so you should probably get her there, right? Suddenly you hear her stomach growl which causes the girl to blush a bit. To be fair, she looks pretty thin and she is pretty underdeveloped, so you assume that she is malnourished.

> Offer her a protein cube and a vitamin pill. You are close to the village so it is not like there is a danger of starving and this girl is pretty hungry

You decide to share some of your supplies with the girl and you pull out and unwrap a protein cube and a vitamin pill. Both are daily doses of nutrition and she probably needs it more than you do. The girl is at first confused but you manage to explain through gestures that this is food. A weak attempt to refuse is halted by another stomach rumble and she eats the pill and the cube. They have a sweet taste but they are pretty tasteless by modern standards. They are incredibly easy to manufacture and store indefinitely though so they are used mainly in emergency supplies. The girl looks just a little bit happier.

Well, time to get her home. After she finishes you easily lift her up and put her on your shoulders which surprises and slightly scares Rheia. However you point at her painting of the village and at the road and she calms down allowing you to set off.

The village itself is about an hour and a half of rapid pace walking. You are constantly surprised by your body as you don't get flustered or out of breath at any point of your journey. As you walk out of the forest you note that the village doesn't look too big. It is situated in the forest clearing and it has two roads, one leading to the sacrifice tree and another leading left deep into another part of the forest. The buildings themselves look poorly maintained. They are made out of rough wooden planks with wooden roofs covered with thatch that stretch almost to the very ground. The building style somewhat reminds you iron age European buildings. Some of the buildings show signs of destruction and hasty patchwork which was probably caused by the monster you've killed.

Oh, and the meeting party has already assembled! Let's see, torches, wooden pikes, shaggy bronze tools. They were already gathering when you exited the forest. Did you somehow miss their scout while you were fighting a monster? You are pretty sure they were too far away to appear and see you when you killed it and if they did they would have to be running the whole way which is improbable.

Villagers assemble into a crude formation as one of them who stayed several feet behind the rest points his finger in your direction and shouts something you didn't quite hear. He is wearing clothes of way higher quality than the rest and he seems to be the only man below the age of 70 among them. He is probably some kind of priest.

Rheia shouts to the villagers: " Dam'd uyld uil! Tuer er Agatha! Sui rozik pi! Sui uor qessik Tui Svaylbi!". Villagers are confused and one of them shouts back " Da i'ay uozi omi' nlaah?". The girl pokes you to get your attention and points at the improvised bag with the teeth which you unpack and display to the villagers. They react with shock and start chatting with each other. You note the woman who seems to be very worried and you guess that this is Rheia's mother. The priest sees you are going to do something and shouts " Hii'! Wuod oli i'ay kaemb?!". You lift the girl off your shoulders and carefully place her on the ground giving the girl a gesture to go ahead. Her eyes fill up with tears as she runs and hugs that woman crying and saying " I duaybud I vess mizil rii i'ay oboem, pap!". The woman starts crying too as she hugs Rheia tightly. Well, happy reunion. You're welcome, Rheia's mom.

One of the villagers, an old woman makes several steps towards you and says: " Tuomq i'ay hal rozemb pi' blomkvuesk omk imkemb duer pimovi, rdlombil. I onasabeci xyd vi kam'd uozi pyvu vi vom ahhil i'ay." This word, tuomq or duomq, it is probably the same word with grammatically relevant prefix. Does it mean "thank you"? Did you just figure this out from three examples? Then it shouldn't take log to understand their language then. Although you have no idea what she said beyond that.

The old woman notices your confusion and Rheia tells her " kair mad ymkilrdomk Cenophila sombyobi! Sui vor savqik em o uess hal i'iolr" which raises even more confusion and chatter among the villagers. The old woman gives the priest a disapproving glance who becomes defensive in return. After that the woman welcomes you to the village with gestures, you presume. She points to a building which is a bit bigger than the rest and gestures you to follow.

The building inside seems to be separated into two rooms, one of which has a table and two chairs with a small candle, a small vial of ink with a feather and some birch bark that has some writings on it. This is probably an office of sorts. A village hall and probably a place where this woman lives. She introduces herself as Zosime and she attempts to communicate with you in some other language that is obviously different from Cenophilan. Which unsurprisingly fails.

After a little bit of thought she has started a methodic attempt to establish a common way of communication with you. She seems like a smart woman and your augmented language skills helped a lot. You remembered everything from the first attempt. Through a combination of simple Cenophilan words, gestures and drawings the two of you have created a way to exchange simple concepts. As a side effect your understanding of local language grammar has increased substantially. You have figured the basic sentence structure and certain word- related grammar but your vocabulary is currently limited. However at that rate you will be almost fluent in several weeks!

With this new way to convey information you explain to Zosime what happened today and how you were asleep for very long time in an ancient sleeping device. You have to seriously dumb it down to pass it through the limits of this makeshift language. Reminds you of.. how was that website called? Explain like i'm five? Yeah sounds about right.

The woman explains you that this monster has terrorized the village of Fa'rsalos for the last four years. The creature was too strong and the value of this village so low that it was not possible for a larger town to send their military to subjugate it. This moster showed up several times a year, killed people and animals and damaged buildings. After the war broke out all able population and animals were pressed into the military the things went from bad to worse. Several decades ago, however, this priest guy Oisin showed up and claimed that the monster could be satisfied with human sacrifice. He has the ability to predict the near future and he convinced the people to randomly choose someone to be sacrificed to the beast. Rheia was the fourth sacrifice they were about to do. The old woman was not happy but it was a vote and she couldn't convince the others.

Zosime claims that the news of the creature's death are amazing which warrants a celebration and she would like you to attend. She also apologizes but the village is incredibly poor and can't offer you much it terms of payment.

You look down on yourself, your clothes are still stained and you note that they don't smell much better than the monster itself, just a little bit less. You ask the village chief for the directions to the nearest source of water as you'd like to clean yourself up. There are no rivers nearby, but there is a well about half an hour of walk from here to the south- west. It is built there to be closer to the farmlands and Zosime is glad that she could help you in return, if even a little.

You then tell her that you would like to bury two people. The person who was mangled by the monster before it was killed and the skeleton of the person from your time, whom you claim to be a friend. Old woman says that she will send someone to retrieve the body of the man, however you will have to recover the skeleton on your own. The forest is treacherous and it is too dangerous to search for the hill. Especially as it is soon going to be nighttime.

You thank the old woman and set off for the well. It should take you half an hour of walking but you decide to test yourself a little bit more. You sprint the entire way to the well and all you feel is slightly hungry. You are not out of breath and you are not even sweating. This is pretty amazing.

The well stands outside a small building which is maintained a bit better than the rest of the village and it seems that the villagers are trying to plant the field. There are three fields but only one of them is planted halfway. You guesstimate that it is the middle of summer judging by the sun's position in the sky. That means the villagers are in quite some trouble regarding manpower. They seem to be incapable of supplying themselves with sustainable food and they are not going to accumulate enough for the winter at this rate. And these people want to throw a party for you...

As you are plucking the chunks of brain matter out of your hair you note an interesting development: it seems that you are in a southern hemisphere. The sun's position tipped you off first but when you saw a moon appearing it became apparent. Is this Australia? The climate doesn't seem to fit, as well as that barely visible mountain range way in the distance. You'll need to think about it. The moon also looks pretty strange. It has several reddish spots on the surface. This is especially visible on the mares. The craters also look different. What the hell has happened while you were asleep?

In any case you are done, your hair is cleaned. you are cleaned, your wounds are cleaned just in case and the ones on your belly are already sealing. Your costume is cleaned as well. It is surprisingly easy to wash, a shame it is now pretty much shagged. You can probably still use it below the other clothes.

You need to decide what you'll do when you return to the village though.

> Just participate in the party. It is in your honor after all

These people need quite a lot of help and you are not sure they would even be able to survive through the winter. You decide that you will help them to get back on their feet. You can start with hunting for meat to fix the malnourishment somewhat and then you can try to fix the field situation. People without enough food are less productive and you, on the other hand, basically have infinite stamina. You can just work for several weeks and plow the field on your own! And also all these old damaged buildings need quite an overhaul. You reason that as you deal with the problems in the village you will get a clearer grasp on your powers and learn some of the local language so it's a win-win for both sides.

With the short and midterm goals set you return to the village just as the locals bring out and assemble some kind of large table. The utensils are made out of wood with some rare ones out of brown ceramic. It appears that villagers completely lack meat in their diet, the plates are filled with mainly grain and some rare vegetables and mushrooms in the form of some kind of half porridge half soup thing. As you've guessed, your portion is almost four times the portion of an average villager and theirs are just slightly above Auschwitz mode.

You feel really uncomfortable and drag the village chief off for a talk. You explain that you have decided to help the village with their food problem and that you are uncomfortable with having the largest portion by far and you urge to split your portion among the rest of the people. She understands and the portions are equalized. It is a bit sad to see such a tiny amount of food but you'd hate to see these people eating less than you and villagers seem happier.

As you expect, the solution is pretty vile but it probably has everything a person needs except meat and it is all what they can afford right now so you eat it without showing discomfort, as do the rest of the people. After the food villagers pray to one of their goddesses. You don't quite understand the words but she is supposed to be some kind of harvest goddess called "Ninmah". Sounds vaguely familiar.

After the meal everyone retires to their homes. Zosime leads you to one of the less damaged abandoned houses. It has walls leading directly to the ground and it is pretty cozy inside. A small hay bed and a tiny table with a small chest underneath. You bid farewells and drop off your stuff on the table before plopping into bed. You don't bother to take off your suit as you would be wearing nothing at all and it is probably not the greatest idea considering how well "ventilated" this hut is.

As you lie down you have a strange feeling. You can sleep, or you could do something else. It is like you don't really need sleep. Sleeping would still feel good but it is no longer necessary for your health.

You wake up incredibly well rested early in the morning. If you were to guess it is roughly 5:30 am. You take a look at your wounds as you get out of bed and fix your hair. Your wounds on the back and the belly are no longer there and the wound on your arm is almost closed. The holes in your suit are also a little bit smaller, but you might just be remembering it wrong.

You grab all your stuff leaving cleaned teeth in the chest because disgusting and setting off to the village center. You get there just as village chief gets out of her house and stretches as the sun slowly peeks from behind the trees. You tell her that you would like to hunt and she replies that there is a hunter's hut near to the forest. The forest has some large plant eating animals with horns, she says. You guess deer but you are way beyond being capable of getting surprised at that point.

A short jog later you reach the hut and enter it. Inside there are some hunting supplies, a cloak, a quiver with some arrows and most importantly a bow and a bowstring. Separately. Dang it. You fiddle with it for a bit before you get a eureka moment and remember how you once saw a video about how to correctly string a bow. Or was it a historical reenactment? In any case, you bend it around your thigh and successfully assemble it.

You grab everything you might need and set off into the forest. Let's hope you find something to eat for the villagers today.

From what you can tell the answer is a definite no. The mountain range in the distance is too high and wide to be in New Zealand. You guesstimate through perspective, liberal use of sensory augment and an elevated position on the tallest tree you could find that they are almost 1300 km away.

You decide to put your new body to the test as you move deeper into the forest. First it was just effortlessly overcoming small obstacles but then you started gaining more and more speed as you decided to give in to what your body thought best. Quickly, gracefully and almost completely without sound you stalked under the canopy of the trees as your senses grew in sharpness and scanned surroundings for prey. You have never hunted before and you would prefer not to kill anything if you could help it, but the village will starve without food and your body also needs protein to maintain your amazing stamina.

Mere hour later you find your first target. It is a wood grouse, a large bird from the same biological order as chickens. You raise your bow and load an arrow. Your first shot passes less than an inch from the bird's head as it becomes startled and hops off the branch intending to fly away. You quickly fire another arrow hitting it into the right wing. Grouse immediately loses control and falls into a spin breaking its neck upon impact. Poor thing, but you've heard that their meat was considered delicacy before they became endangered and the ban was not lifted even after the population was cloned back into existence almost a decade before you were placed in stasis.

The next creatures to fall prey to your arrows were a couple wild rabbits. First one fell where it stood as your arrow impacted exactly between the eyes while another one dodged three shots before you winged it and managed to catch up and kill it with a bronze hunting knife. You are not getting the knife you used on a monster anywhere near food until you sterilize it. Your body reacted with high temperature antibiotic gel for a reason after all.

Unfortunately you couldn't bring in any more kills. You managed to hit another rabbit but a couple wolves decided that it would be worth their time to attempt to chase you away from its body. You didn't feel like getting your costume even more ripped without much need so you retreated. In the end you have exhausted a quarter of your arrow supply. Some flew into the forest but most were damaged beyond repair. Well, that's what you get for using flint tipped arrows. You will need to find a way to replenish your supply or you'll only be able to repeat it a couple more times.

On the plus side you've managed to fill in a whole bag of forest mushrooms. It seems that they didn't change much from mushrooms of your time and you could easily identify and discard poisonous variety.

You note that Oisin is preaching something to the villagers, but your language is not sufficient to understand him. You do understand that he is sometimes using your name. Maybe he thinks you are a gift from gods or something? In any case, you leave food processing to the villagers and it is about 2 pm. A lot of time for productive labor. While you haven't done nearly as much as you could, you decide that you have more than repaid the villagers for the food. After a small request you are provided with a torch, a shovel and a bag you'd need to recover Sam's body. It would be better to handle this as soon as possible. Good spot doesn't stay empty for long after all and you've left the "door" wide open.

An hour of backtracking and improvised forest parkour later you finally find the hill. You've almost missed it as there was a cave-in in the tunnel you dug while you were getting out. With an actual shovel and access to fresh air you easily clear the path and increase the hole until you can fit in without crawling through mud like last time. The basement is as you remember it. The only new addition is a bunch of dirt you've added during the excavation. The pod is still open and glowing and Sam's body is still in a pile of rubble near to a table which now misses a leg.

>Pack Sam up. You are here specifically for this.

You take another look at the door. It is made out of thick metal that is not showing much rust or decay but the wheel handle is rusted over so badly that you can't tell if there is still any metal left or if it is rusted all the way through. In any case, it would be nice to see what's behind the door. It would be awkward if there is just a door which opens directly to freedom.

You grab the wheel handle and attempt to rotate it. The internal mechanism screeches and moves slowly but then suddenly something inside the door breaks and the wheel is yanked a quarter of rotation further and breaks off crumbling into rusty scrap. At first you curse thinking that you've missed the opportunity, but then you hear something inside the door. A sound of falling and crumbling dust and small debris can be heard from the inside and a few moments later this quarter ton monstrosity breaks off the hinges and slides out of the frame impacting the floor with a loud thud. As it starts leaning away from the wall something inside you kicks in and you dodge sideways as the door impacts the floor with a shockwave which fills the room with flying dust.

You expected the ringing in the ears to last longer but as dust settles you can finally explore what is behind the door. It is a corridor which leads left. Apparently this room was at the very end of it. Corridor is filled with debris that smells like burned rubber and fireworks. Probably the power cable caught fire from the nuclear flash. The very end of the corridor is blocked with almost pitch black material which looks like it flowed from the direction of the stairs, filled the entire end of the corridor and solidified. It looks like this is trinitite, radioactive glass and slag. Judging by the size of the hill this "plug" will end with a thin layer of dirt outside.

Surprisingly it seems to be flaking incredibly easily. Reminds you of some types of cinderblocks that can be drilled with a pencil or even a finger. The dust it produces doesn't seem healthy but you could have probably traded several hours of your gas mask's filter to bust your way to freedom from here too.

Unfortunately there is nothing useful in this room and the door is too heavy to carry all the way to the village even though you can lift it up with some effort. Maybe you could come here later to take it apart? Or you could use it to seal the exit so nothing gets in.

>Pack Sam up. You are here specifically for this.

You take another look at the room. The pod seems to be completely intact but lacks power. You have no idea how it works but from what you've heard it contains a miniature fusion power plant and some nanotech. You have no tools or time or knowledge to utilize it so you decide to seal it up again. Luckily it just closes and goes into sleep mode if there is no occupant inside when you slide the door back into position. This graphene egg will probably survive for another couple thousand years so you can return to it at any time.

After you are done with the pod you return to the remains of Sam. The shockwave from the door blew off most of the dust and rubble from his bones and you carefully pack him up into your bag. You will probably bury him somewhere near the village as villagers seem to prefer to burn the corpses. At least that's what happened to the upper half of the man and the remains of the monster. Sam would probably enjoy being back with the nature after two thousand years of being cooped up in this dark basement.

After you are done with the main reason you came here you decide to scavenge everything you could use. Most iron parts are rusted beyond any use but aluminum doesn't rust. You take all the aluminum cans from the vending machine as well as some scrap from its structure and pack it densely so it fits into another bag. Table and chair legs follow as well as some copper cables from the walls and HV insulated aluminum cables that didn't burn out from the corridor. Unfortunately plastic granulated too much from time and is too mixed into the rubble to warrant your efforts. After you are done there is no leftover useful metal, rubber or plastic remaining. Unfortunately the frame and hull of the vending machine was made out of low quality glass fiber composite of sorts and it rapidly crumbles. You can't reuse it.
>>
>>2733760
After you are done you slide the door into the hole and seal the opening. It is not airtight but it should prevent anything and anyone from getting in easily. For good measure you collapse the tunnel when you get out and mark the tree with your knife so you can find the place again. It is finally evening when you return to the village. You unload the scrap into a small basement below your house and bury the remains of Sam in the village's burial ground. You make a small cross for him. You have no idea if he was religious or not but it felt right and locals usually just add a plank with some inscriptions to mark their dead. Village chief claimed that the person and the monster were dangerous so they had to be burned, it was not a practice they use often because it uses a lot of wood. You decide to do the same with the jaw as it smelled pretty bad even after you've washed it thoroughly.

In any case it is late evening and you participate in the supper. You don't seem to need to eat nearly as much as others but you enjoy some rabbit soup with the rest of the villagers. It is roughly 8 pm and you are deciding what to do next.

Food is only one side of the problem. The whole village is in such a terrible state of disrepair it is difficult to understand if people still live in it or if it is abandoned. You decide to spend the next couple hours to assess the damage and to map out the village. You end up with a quick sketch on a chunk of bark.

The village itself is built for a population of almost three times the size it is right now. There used to be around 150 people before the war but you've only seen 46. Half of the villagers were drafted and the rest seem to have died over the last three years. This explains the state of the village: they simply lack manpower and they can't support their own infrastructure.

Farsalos is a pretty small settlement on its own and it consists out of 3 clusters of buildings around the "town hall" from which two dirt roads are built. One leads south to the nearest major town while the other leads north- east into the forest towards the sacrificial ground. Farm building is situated at some distance to the west of the village with three fields cleared around it. Farming building seems to be equipped with a muscle powered millstone which might be useful.

Villagers live in families inside small wooden houses. Some are smaller than your living room back in your time while accommodating three or four people. There are 24 buildings in the village itself, 19 of which are constructed for permanent habitation. 8 of the houses are uninhabited. Buildings to the east of the village are just ruins with three exceptions. Monster collapsed most of them beyond repair. It is easier to bulldoze them and replace them on the same foundation, if compressed dirt and some stones can be called that way.
>>
>>2734046
Village also has some utility buildings which are usually near to the family which is supposed to operate them. There is a small carpenter's shack which lacks walls... and tools. It is basically a roof and a work table to process wood. The axe is the only tool in the shack and it is just straight up broken. There is a tanner's workshop far to the south of the village. Tanner's wife can operate it but it lacks raw resources and all manpower is focused on the fields at the moment.

There is also a small smithy nearby which has a cracked stone anvil and a low temperature forge. It is insufficient for iron but it is enough to smelt and forge bronze and copper. Smith's daughter lives in a nearby building but she doesn't know how to operate it well. You are informed that there is an abandoned copper mine somewhere nearby.

One of the larger buildings is granary. It is less than 10% full with all the food the village has. Other granaries collapsed as they were in the eastern part of the village. It is in such a bad state that you don't think it would survive the winter. It will probably collapse from the snow.

As you were investigating the village you noticed one of the villagers sneaked out and set off into the forest.

You decide to follow the villager. After a quick run home you grab your bow and cloak so that blue outfit won't reveal you and you sprint towards the forest. It is relatively easy to find her as she didn't manage to get far. This is Rheia's mother Xanthe. You wonder why was she sneaking out as all she does is gathering edible mushrooms while trying to be as quiet as she can and getting spooked by random noises. She is the head farmer, right? Farmers shouldn't need to forage for food.

You quietly follow her without letting yourself be seen as the woman slowly makes her way deeper into the forest. She manages to fill a quarter of her bag with mushrooms before you both hear a stick breaking nearby. It is the pair of wolves. One of them has the same scar as the one which stole your rabbit while the other looks strangely sick and they are both slowly approaching her. She notices the eyes in the darkness and you can almost smell her fear. Sicky wolf growls and something strange happens as its back splits open and several tentacles sprout out of it. They are almost definitely going to attack her! What should you do?

There is no time to waste! You jump off the tree where you were hiding and land between the woman and the wolves like a goddamn batman as you point your arm at the tentacle wolf and then close it into the fist as you focus on its head.

The result is not as spectacular as you've expected. Maybe you were not as angry as you were when killing the naga creature. Wolf's revealed scull cracks and dents but doesn't implode and then you recognize your mistake. It is not a wolf. It is a creature wearing a wolf like a glove. The wound on its back opens up more and a large blob of flesh and tentacles rises out of its body as it deflates. This is incredibly disturbing and causes the woman to vomit.

You don't intend to watch this parasite's gross appearance for any longer and you quickly draw your bow and fire at it. The arrow hits the creature right between the tentacles ripping it open like a fleshy water balloon as it spasms and a huge amount of tiny tentacle balls the size of a penny flow out of it mixed along with its internal organs. Smells about as great as you expect.

Luckily they don't stay alive for long and die quickly outside their mother's body. The other wolf doesn't seem to be too disturbed by the display and it attempts to bite your hand. In the nick of time you manage to shove a nearby stick into its mouth before it bites so it has to retreat for another pass. Your actions?

Oh no, you are not getting away. Almost automatically you draw your bow and fire at the remaining wolf. The arrow hits it exactly in the head and drives itself almost half its length into its brain. Or that's what it seemed like. Something came out of the hole made by the arrow and tiny tentacles came out of its head. Looks like this wolf is in early stages of infection. Whatever that parasite is, it starts off by eating the brain and then growing inside the wolf as the body decays.

Why do you always get creepy and disturbing monsters? Why not a minotaur or a dragon or just plain normal wolf? You send another arrow into its head and tentacles convulse and stop moving. Bullseye.

You turn to the woman as she is recovering from shock and ask her if she is alright. She is unharmed, just really scared. " Psiori kam'd diss omi'ami oxayd pi xiemb uili! Wi oli mad rynnarik da vomkil xyd I kekm'd vomd Rheia da vamdemyi rdolzemb!" she tells you in a pleading voice. You understand something about saying, everyone, negative verb you don't know and insufficient food as well as her daughter's name.

Considering the context, your best guess is that she doesn't want you to tell anyone about her being in the forest and she is risking her safety to get more food for her child. Admirable intention but incredibly stupid execution.

You decide not to tell anyone about seeing her. " Na diss niansi duer. Ga uapi nsiori " you tell her and she bows and runs off into the direction of the village. Dang it, this sounded so cranky. You need to learn the language so it is not as embarrassing. But to be fair, there are a few children in the village that are malnourished. This can cause delays in mental and physical development. While being skinny and younger than her age, Rheia is more developed than the other children in the village. Maybe Xanthe has a point and it might be a good idea to increase rations for children?

In any case, you have a problem on your hands. Parasite infested wolves. As you observe them you seem to find a similar symptom on both animals. Tomato red bloodied eyes. This thing is nasty and you don't want to know what happens if a human gets infected. You take a mental note to slay animals which have similar features.

While killing it with fire is the best option it doesn't seem like a great idea in the middle of a forest which can burn down along with the village. You decide that instead you will thoroughly damage the parasites and corpses and then bury them as deep as you can. It will double as telekinesis training.

You focus at the task at hand and try to excavate the ground with your mind. Nothing happens. You have never tried telekinesis this way so you are probably doing it wrong. After a few attempts you figure this out. It is like breathing, but more situational. You can spontaneously use it in life and death situations like with the naga monster and it would still be conscious decision but you can also manually take it over. This takes much more focusing than you expected but it is not too tiring. You can't just do that in combat and it is difficult to do two things at once with it but you feel like you can get used to it with practice.

Mud and ground lift up and float away into a neat pile as you open the hole all the way past the dirt and to the rock below. The bodies float up and then get compressed and squeezed like in a juicer before getting dropped off into the depth of the earth after which you bury them with your thought.

You guess you could move to the village, but on the other hand you are in the forest with a bow so you might as well catch something.

For a moment you panic. What if the creatures you caught were also infected? But you manage to recall all of them looking pretty normal and you would notice red budged and bleeding eyes. You also already ate one of the rabbits along with the people of the village and you didn't feel any biowarfare going in your stomach.

As you are already in the forest you decide to hunt. If you find an edible animal you'll feed the village. If you find an infected animal you'll kill it anyway to stop the spread of this parasite. With the plans done you bounce between the two trees to rise to the canopy and start moving through the forest.

You successfully catch another grouse and a whole family of four rabbits is now safely inside your bag but then you hear an elk. You decide that this would be an amazing way to feed everyone for several days and you approach it from behind and hit it straight in the head. You should have probably checked its eyes...

The whole head and neck area splits in half and tentacles spring out as the creature makes a horrifying screech You hear it echoing across the entire forest. Moments later you hear several other similar screeches and the creature turns and faces you. The split head looks almost like an open maw with its jagged bones for teeth. And the screeching is getting closer from all directions...

The zombie elk rushes you but one graceful dodge later it faceplants the tree and you are now hiding somewhere in the canopy. It seems that such a weird body plan is not structurally sound and it managed to break something in the spinal cord which made it impossible for the parasite to continue controlling the elk, which is indicated by its convulsing body. This is an excellent opportunity to kill every infected creature in the area. Hopefully. Or at least to massively decrease their population.

The small opening in the forest soon meets its new parasitic arrivals. Random rabid- looking rabbits, a couple wolves, wild cats and amprphous blobs of tentacles without a host or with hosts so mangled you can barely tell what they were before. But now it is time for the king of the show! Massive creature resembling mishmashed parts of various animals and tentacles rolls into the area turning a small tree on its path into a shower of sawdust. Is there a disfigured human face in it?

The creature proceeds to consume the nearby infected animals gaining mass as you feel strange tugging sensation in your head. For the first time since you left the pod you feel a bit scared. The blob swipes at you with a spiked tentacle!

The tentacle hits the tree with such force that you are shaken off it and fall on your back where another tentacle wraps around your leg and swings you face first into a nearby tree before swinging your body over the tree tops and into the ground creating a small crater with you in the center.
{{ Nu... Dun's 'atuts... Juun iat...}}
The hell? Surprisingly you are intact, even though hurting all over. What was that though? You pull out your knife and stab the tentacle which causes it to let go. You immediately sprint away but a wolf pounces you and bites into your arm. Luckily your suit is strong enough not to let it through, but it still hurts like a bitch. You feel strange sensation in your head again which causes you to tumble slightly before you regain your senses and smack the wolf into the ground repeatedly to force it to let go before finishing it with a knife directly into the skull. Wolf is instantly grabbed by a tentacle and sucked into the mass.

You don't lose a single second as dodge a rabid rabbit flying right into your face and bounce off from one tree to another to rapidly gain height while simultaneously drawing a bow. This backfires as the creature calculates your landing spot and drives you into the ground with a tentacle slap breaking your bow to several pieces.

You feel a strange headache and words echo through your skull {{ Whx gu xuia 'atuts?}}

Shit, this is not good at all. You can sense dozens of infected animals closing in on the area and this thing is also probably psychic. You need to start taking this fight much more seriously.

Elk zombie finally wakes up and rushes you but it disappears into the shower of gibs and slime as you psychokinetically crush its torso to the size of a tennis ball. Several rabbits jump into the scene and rush you but they splat against nearby trees and the tentacle wolf flies into the sky like a ragdoll.

{{ Jiats unaguna, xuia thuiaftg fta shiats ftuka iat...}}

Fuck off! You manage to dodge several tentacle attacks but you are hit with a large one like a mace. Several spikes enter your flesh leaving holes in your right side and arm as deep as your muscles and sending you flying where another tentacle swipes you into another direction leaving a couple wounds in your cloak and back!

You manage to stop yourself from impacting the tree as you pull out all of your arrows and launch them at a great speed at the creature like a shotgun. A painful screech passes through your mind and another tentacle smacks you through the whole bulk of the tree leaving a hole in your stomach that is actually bleeding. This is not good...

You are not sure what to do. This is the most formidable opponent you have ever faced. You can't run, if you do the village will be destroyed by these creatures!

{{ Jiats gu'a un aft'aagx!}}

Get out of my head! With a loud thud a tentacle hits you in the head into another tentacle which wraps around your leg and throws you right into the main mass of the creature. No, you shall not go that way! You manage to push off of the monster and fling yourself at a nearby tree. The blob attempted to intercept you but your reaction was faster and you pushed yourself out of the way in mid- flight with telekinesis.

The creature takes up the entirety of your attention as you pour your power into it to crush it like a bug, but it somehow resists, restructures, sacrifices its mass to prevent the collapse. This was probably worth a shot, but your lack of attention allowed several animals to latch onto you and bite you. They are focusing the places which are already wounded! The rabbit which tries to dig itself into your guts is intercepted, thrown into the ground and crushed under your boot as the remaining creatures float off and turn into bloody salsa on the ground.

In the meantime your mind is a warzone. The beast seems to be attempting some kind of mind control but you appear to be naturally immune to it or just way stronger than it so it resorts to just causing intense pain by beaming screeching noises and strange sensations directly into your head!

Finally all the static and pain subsides and a demand rings in your head {{Join us, for the glory of the Goddess!}} No, I shall not join you, you piece of shit! You are angry, at the monster, at that goddess it talks about and at yourself for not being strong enough! THIS SHIT SHALL NOT STAND!

You can hear a loud sound of breaking wood as a nearby tree is literally ripped in half with your telekinesis and floats into the air. "SWALLOW THIS!" you shout at the top of your lungs as this log is propelled right into the creature at an enormous speed fragmenting into wooden shards and sawdust! You hit it so hard that the log produces a shockwave which throws you against the tree and sends nearby creatures away from epicenter.

The death of the blob creates a powerful burst of painful telepathic static which almost knocks you out. However you note that every infected animal you can see starts to die painful deaths as the parasite slime pours out of their eyes, ears and noses. You've won!

You cough and clench your gut wound. Hot antibiotic gel is pretty painful when it goes into the internal organs. But at least the threat is removed and you are alive. Worth it.

You wonder who is this goddess the creature spoke of? Was it referring to itself? Or its creator? And what should you do now?

If those monsters are going to be a common occurrence we need to start learning more about them. The religion of those people might be a good start since I'm pretty sure the priest was saying something about a goddess too.

It is kind of difficult to run around with a gut wound even if you don't feel debilitating pain so you decide to sit here under the tree for a little bit. At least until your wounds are sealed enough to continue back to the village.

As painful as it was, that last move was pretty amazing, you think. You compare it to an artillery strike. The goo left after you've crushed the blob monster is now sitting at the very bottom of a small crater. To be fair, this is what you expected the first crush attack to drain. You would not be able to do more than a couple of those in quick succession and now you have a pretty serious headache that will take a couple hours to clear. You are pretty sure it is the back blast from the log and not a side effect of telepathic invasion.

You wonder who is this goddess the creature spoke of. It would be funny if this is indeed Elspeth. Or that harvest goddess. However, from what Dan told you it doesn't seem likely. Elspeth is supposed to have her heart in the right place but her judgment is lacking. In any case, if the creatures keep showing up like that you should probably try to learn something about them. There is no library and it doesn't seem like villagers would know much about them so you decide to take a look at the local religion. As good place to start as any.

As you think about it you note that the parasites seem to be decaying at accelerated rate. The liquid rapidly evaporates and they lose form and become empty rubbery shells which then break up into smaller pieces. This process creates a lot of heat and steam. Several carcasses of infected animals are already smoking and inflating as if they are burning on the inside.

The smell finally becomes more annoying than the wounds so you stumble back on your feet and start your way back to the village. As you get to the edge of the forest you can see that there is some kind of action going on in the village...

From what you can see from the edge of the forest people are running in different directions inside the village. You become worried. Hopefully nothing bad has happened but just in case you speed up.

On your way to the village you see one dead tentacle rabbit, then another, then a dead decaying zombie elk. As you go you see more and more of those creatures and you start panicking as your jog turns into a sprint. Fuck the gut wound you need to help!

Suddenly the amount of creatures starts to decrease and mere two hundred meters away from the village you find the last one of them. You also finally figure out what the villagers are doing. They dragged out an old wooden carriage and are furiously packing their shit as well as some unconscious villagers.

The psi wave has knocked half of them out in the middle of the night and they probably saw a forest of red eyes in the fields and immediately decided to evacuate. You walk into the middle of this mess and say " Sdan. I vam, i'ay vom ba rsiin". This immediately gets the attention of everyone and with the help of village chef you explain the situation.

Zosime then explains that risk of monsters is a part of life on the frontier. Whole villages can sometimes disappear from such an attack so everyone is ready to flee to the larger town at a drop of a hat. However there was no contact with the nearest town for almost half a year since the last tax payment as the road became too dangerous. Villagers decided that they fancied their survival odds with bandits and wildlife more than whatever monstrosity that was.

Tired villagers decide to pick up their stuff and retire back to their homes for the rest of the night while you waddle back to your house and fall on your bed. While you don't need sleep you sure as hell want to skip all this pain for some time...
and on this note this week's edition of Synthetic Gods Quest is complete. Next thread on the next Saturday. Feel free to discuss the session and let me know if you liked it

Are the villagers still packing shop or will they stay now that we killed the immediate threat?
>>
>>2735335
They are staying, yes
>>
>>2735339
To be fair you need to take into account that it was a cost benefit decision. Villagers decided that a risk of attempting evacuation through a dangerous route is lower than confronting that creature. When creature died the risk of evacuating became higher than the risk of staying in the village.

Please note that CU is "crafting unit", a rough estimation of the amount of material available. As an example, most small tools such as a knife or a sickle will require one CU worth of metal to create. This is not an introduction of a new mechanic but a tool to visualise the available materials easier.
