Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Let's have some fun.

The fight begins anew before you really know how to react. He levels his pistols at Aqualad and Wondergirl first, his aim impeccable despite his split attention. Aqualad is thrown off by his speed and can only form a shield with his waterbearers. The rounds he fires leaves a dark red streak in the air that last far longer than smoke would. His shots overwhelm the atlantean in no time and his shield shatters.

Wondergirl barely fares any better, deflecting the shots at random angles through the room with her bracers, but judging by the look on her face she's having trouble keeping up. Robin responds with a hail of his shuriken and the Herald turns his attention to them in a split second, popping them out of the air with the best placed shots you've ever seen.

Your two archers try their luck next. [Roy! Sonic arrowheads!] [Got it!] They communicate quickly over the psychic link and line themselves up on opposite sides of the Herald. They both fire arrowheads that whistle in an odd pitch as they fly. Their joint attack nails either side of the Herald's helmet, but he barely reacts, instead simply prying them off and continuing to fire.

Robin tries to coordinate over the psychic link but his thoughts are cut off when the Herald changes up his tactics, he grabs the girl by his side as his guns evaporate into red flame. Replacing them in a similar burst, is some kind of sub machine gun, which he then sprays across in front of him, prompting everyone to duck for or shield themselves however they can.

This guy- thing, whatever, he's an entirely different beast aside from Brother Blood.

>You can't do anything scattered, get everyone together.
>Try and get close, seems he's doing his best to keep the team at arm's length.

Robin comes over on the psychic link. [I can't get a read on this guy, we're gonna have to pull together if we're gonna make a dent.]

[Yeah, and our hands are tied no matter what we do as long as he has a hostage. I'm gonna change that.] You disperse completely, trying to mask your approach best you can.

[Ghost, wait!] Robin tries to warn you, but you're approaching quickly from his left side, you'll just grab the girl and grapple out of his way. It shouldn't take more then a second and he can't see you coming in this chaos he's creating shooting up the joint. But somehow he does, as soon as you turn solid again and reach fro the girls shoulder it all goes wrong.

A pistol materializes in his off hand and he levels it right at your head. There's a moment, a moment right where you think you fucked up. For the last time. He pauses, and it's just enough. You disperse again, forcefully. It doesn't feel right. Takes you back to when you first starting messing with your powers. Like you're trying to hold your breath and the pressure is mounting.

His red projectile whistles through the air where your head used to be and you back off to group up with the team again. You reform next to Robin and he gives you a look. [Don't do that again, Morgan. We barely know what we're dealing with here.]

[Dammit. I know. I just- I feel like we haven't gotten anywhere. Fighting Blood, Constantine leaving us high and dry like that. Now this.]

[We just need to rethink our approach. He saw you coming, but I doubt he's all seeing. Miss Martian. Do you think you can retrieve the hostage on your own? Phase through the floor?]

[Umm. Yes! I can do this!]

[So we'll split up with three objectives. Distraction, assault, and retrieval. Artemis, Speedy and I will hamper him any way we can, keep his attention on us. Aqualad and Wondergirl will do as much damage as possible. And M'gann will slip away with the hostage. Ghost? Where do you think you'll be most effective.]

Robin lays out his quick plan and the team gets to work, Aqualad and Wondergirl get close to the Herald by switching up between Aqualad's shield and deflecting is shots via her bracers, since neither one of them can hold him off on their own for long, it proves just enough to get within striking range. They force him to switch up weapons again, changing to a single pistol and a knife glowing red from heat gripped in the other hand.

While they engage him, Robin and your teams two archers rain down on him. He keeps on pushing Aqualad and Wondergirl off of him but he always has just enough time to shoot down your team's projectiles or dodge them entirely. It's like he just knows where everything is going to land. While Miss Martian disappears from sight you shadow her in your smoky form best you can.

Everything is going just as you and Robin planned, but somewhere along the line he must've noticed M'gann. He had to. As he's facing down Aqualad, steam flying off the clash of their blades, a grenade forms in his hand and he casually tosses it over his shoulder. M'gann panics and becomes visible again. As fire explodes forth in front of her, she doesn't actually take a hit but you could feel her fear through the link. Something's not right.

You turn to head to her, giver her a helping hand. But she stops you. [No! Keep going, he won't be expecting you.]

[You sure you're okay?] You look quickly back to the escalating fight.

[I'm sure! Martians just don't deal well with the heat. Finish the mission!] With her urging you on you sink low to the floor and approach from the Herald's back. You won't rush it this time. Wait until he's completely preoccupied with the others. He's sticking to the girl like glue, even doing his best to keep any far reaching attacks away from her.

>Continued
>>
>>2733454
Soon enough you're right under his nose but he doesn't notice you He would've attacked already if he had. You catch the girls attention by reforming your hand and beckoning with a finger, she tires to move but she's obviously weak. Must've been through a lot. She scrawls a couple feet away from the Herald and just when you're about to pull her out, a hand grasps her wrist.

Blood. Damn it all, you forgot about him. He's weak as hell though, after the beating the Titans gave him. Fuck it, you'll have to speed things up. You fully reform and smash your fist into his smug face, he goes reeling back but the Herald whips back around and you brace to protect the hostage but one of Robin's explosive discs hits him in the back and he has to turn to deal with it, allowing you to grab the girl and grapel out.

The team's onslaught pauses once you've gotten the girl a safe distance away, and M'gann appears next you. Having recovered from her episode with the heat. The Herald pauses as well, showing only that he might be a little surprised you all managed to do that. But Blood is much more transparent. "You moronic, blunt instrument... if the the Daughter of Darkness is lost then so is the ritual! She's the only thing that matters!"

The Herald doesn't answer, doesn't respond at first. But then he turns, a mean looking shot gun appearing in his hands, leveled at Blood. "You're right." A muffled and ethereal voice sounds from his helmet. "You're right. She is."

You hesitate. Your muscles locking up as you wonder for just a moment, do you really need to save him? Brother Blood, never heard his name before tonight. But do you need a list of his priors in front of you to know he's a bad dude. Facilitating human trafficking, gathering a cult, and whatever the hell else he's been up to. Would it really be so bad to just, let him go?

It would. You realize. Complacency, dad used to say it's something that sneaks up on you. You didn't put on this costume and start jumping from rooftops to just watch people get blow away when you can do something about it. He's at least a dozen feet away, and he's got a shotgun primed at point blank range. You've only got one option.

Quick-drawing your grapnel, you fire and watch it fly. The hook impacts on the side of his weapon and knocks it off target. His weapon goes off, unleashing a harsh blast of dark red flame off to Blood's side. You can see it in Blood's eyes, relief at you saving him. But it doesn't last, The Herald morphs his gun in his hand faster than ever before, producing a revolver.

Before you can even think to try anything else. He fires. You barely even need to look. Blood is dead. His body crumples to the floor, and the Herald turns back to the titans. "An unfaithful hand, is a useless one. Though in death, you will serve your purpose." The ground shakes. Most of your earth bound teammates lose their balance in their attempts to stay upright. The Herald barely even moves.

Cracks begin to form in the floor, some even wide enough for the unconscious cultists to fall in. The titans pick one or two up before they can fall to their doom but it's only getting worse. The torches lighting the room turn the same deep red of the Herald's flames. And then they appear. Images, flowing figures in the dark of the room that you can barely make out. They practically dance around the room, moving here and there.

You hear Wondergirl over the link. [This ritual of theirs is coming to a head! We must leave while we still can!] Even through the rumblings of the underground church, the urging and yelling of your friends just goes through you as you look at Blood's body. You tried to save him. You tried. [Morgan!] You can hear them but you just don't know what to do with yourself. Do you run? Do you try your damnedest to put the Herald down?

A new voice, one nobody recognizes comes over your link. The girl who was being held hostage not even a minute ago staggers to her feet with your help and addresses all of you. [Listen to me. the ritual has already begun but without me at the center it's vulnerable. We need the shards of my mirror, understand? Get the mirror if you want to seethe sunrise!]

Robin is the first to leap into action, as usual. [Titans, gather the mirror pieces! Go! Bring them back here on the double!] You want to move with them. You want to put your all into saving the day, like you've been doing. But you're stuck. At least until a sharp pain shoots up your shoulder. You see Artemis, impatient look on her face. "Ghost there's no time! We have a mission, are you a part of it?"

As if she had to ask. "You bet your ass!"

M'gann pops up and helps the dark haired girl to the ground, she sits in a meditating position. "I'll stay here with her, I won't let the Herald touch her."

You and Artemis are a bit wary leaving them by themselves. "Go on, hold off the Herald and find the pieces, I need to prepare the inverse incantation."

>Move to assault with the heavy hitters, keep the Herald busy.
>You can move around pretty easy, collect mirror pieces while the other fight. Artemis will stay with M'gann.
>Stay and protect the girl. Artemis will go on the assault.

I'd say that's mostly because you succeed on MOST of your rolls in nearly every thread. But I'll keep what you said in mind going forward. Sometimes it's hard finding a balance you know? As a QM I never want you guys to feel like you lost something or failed something important because of one bad roll.

>Still currently writing
>>
>>2734339
I don't mind, since we're in a comic book universe. We're doing great, I'd say due to great training from great teachers. Nothing wrong with having success.
>>
>>2734362
Plus the writing makes those successes feel hard earned, and Morgan jobbing occasionally and using teamwork most of the time keeps him from being a Mary Sue.
>>
>>2734374
Seriously, early game we nearly got destroyed by Anarchy. We've trained hard and learned more about our powers and ourselves since then.
>>
>>2734362
Yeah I'm not trying to shittalk the quest or anything but I just think meaningful failures provide good character development and make successes feel that much better. We've got a pretty big safety net from failures with big consequences right now though.
>>
>>2734226
You've gotta get back in there. "Hey, Blondie. Stay here with M'gann. Watch her back."

"Of course, what're you gonna do?" She draws an arrow and immediately looses it into a rising cultist.

"Whaddya think? I'm gonna clean house." You take off running, mind racing. Okay, so looking for those small pieces is gonna be hell in all this darkness and chaos of the fight. But you've got an idea. [Robin! I only ever read the manual for these things once, but can't they pick up on and track frequencies with a visual aid?]

Robin slides under a spray of hellish gunfire from the Herald and scoops up a couple of mirror pieces in the process. [If you're thinking what I think you're thinking. And I really hope you are- hold on a sec while I get a sample. You he taps away on his gauntlet while dodging bullets and throws several shuriken the Herald's way before finishing. [Done! We should be able to see them lighting up right about... now!]

Through your goggles, you can see mirror shards begin to show themselves with a dim purple outline, scattered about on the ground. [Hello?! In case you forgot not everyone here is equipped by friggin Batman!] Speedy makes an excellent point.

[Q-core tech should be compatible, just input the data I'm sending you!] Once you all know exactly where to look, the three of you become a well oiled machine. You slip and slide through the Herald's attempts to shoot you down and pick up all the pieces in must must be record time. Though you seriously doubt anyone's out there keeping a record for this sort of shit.

You all meet back up with M'gann and the mystery girl, who is now floating in her meditative position. She's chanting too. But not like what you heard before. You don't recognize the words but you can tell she's having an effect on what's happening. The rumbling is getting less severe. And those shapes flying around the room are starting to become something recognizable. People.

They're people. Ghosts. Real ghosts. The only thing you can guess really. "Are- are they g-"

"The departed? Yes. When Trigon nears this world the boundaries become less solid. The dead will flood this place soon if the ritual isn't stopped. You have the pieces. Now you all need to gather if you want to survive this. I will begin as soon as you all make a circle around me." She speaks without even opening her eyes. And as soon as she's done she goes back to chanting.

[You heard her Titans, fall back! Aqualad, Wondergirl, disengage.] You're tired friends break off their fight with the Herald and run to meet the rest of you in the circle. And as soon as it's complete, everyone hand in hand. It begins.

Meaningfulness comes from failures sometimes sure. One of our biggest is our dad, who died offscreen. He loved the old hero serials on the radio and that's what inspired us to become the Grey Ghost. We've had some decent setbacks, including being sent to a universe where we died and everything went to shit. I see our successes as a result of our character, we're focused. Driven, but we also have a great safety net with our friends.

As soon as everyone joins hands in the circle, a black line forms around you all, encircling you in some sort of protective bubble. Not even the Herald's bullets can touch you in here. The girl's chanting continues. The mirror shards are wrapped in that same odd 'dark light' that you saw before, flowing off the mirror when it was whole. The mirror reforms itself, and from it emerges a great bird. It's screech fills the room and almost makes you break the circle to cover your ears.

That same darkness begins to envelop the group as the girl's speech become louder and more forceful by the second, as if she's commanding whatever the hell is happening to stop. The ghosts all around you begin to disappear one by one. Taking off for god know where. You hope someplace better than this, for their sake.

You see red in the corner of your vision. The Herald approaches your safe bubble, holding his arms in front of himself and leaning forward as if he were trying to walk in gale force winds. But given how calm it is in the circle he might very well be. Summoning his burning knife to one hand. He punctures the wall of the circle and slides it down, inch by inch. Doing everything he can to get through.

But it won't be enough. At the end, at the peak of the girl spell. He stops trying to carve his way in. And he just watches. You're not sure if anyone else is seeing this. But he just- watches. When everything comes to a head, the torches in the room go from that deep red, to a dark purple as she utters the final words to her spell. The dark bird wraps her in it's wings and her own eyes shine bright. AZARATH METRION ZINTHOS.

The words are said with what you feel like are several voices but that barely matters. As soon as the last part leaves her mouth you're all forcefully bumped from the circle and all goes quiet. The shaking ground, no dancing torches or wailing spirits. Even the Herald, you jump up when you realize that you're vulnerable to him again but he's nowhere to be seen.

"Did we do it? Has the ritual been aborted?" Kaldur is the first to get to his feet. And we all look to the mystery girl to answer that question once he poses it.

She touches a hand to her forehead, gently. Almost hesitantly. "Yes. I sense Trigon is very far from this realm now. It'll take more than blood to bring him here now..."

Before you can ask what she means exactly, the mountain you're under quakes yet again. "C'mon! We've been through two occult weirdos, now what?" Speedy gripes.

Robin brings up some data on his gauntlet before turning to face the group. "Seismic imaging is telling me that all that shaking wasn't exactly healthy for the foundations of this place." Robin looks around to all of the unconscious cultists, pained look on his face.

"Don't bother." The dark haired girl says. "Their hearts stopped as soon as Blood began the ritual. Besides. They've been long before you met them."

Robin looks like he's about to says something until a piece of the ceiling nearly crashes down on his head, Donna leaps up and smashes it before it can harm anyone. That's all the push he needs. "And We're evacuating ! Move!" He doesn't have to tell anyone twice, most of you run your asses off while Wonder Girland Miss Martian fly on ahead. Then you see the mystery girl float past as well. What can't she do?

You have to push past what you now to be corpses on your entire run out of their. Every time you see one, leap over lone you're reminded of the sight of the back of Blood's head exploding outward in fire. So you're just distracted enough, when you hear the doorway about to come down on you. The last thing you hear is your friends calling your name and a harsh pain on your head.

The world comes back to you in flashes. Not everything is as it should be. You're heads pounding but you expected that. And someone- is carrying you? You expect to see one of the powerhouses on your team with the ease their having lugging you through this awkward darkness. You're ready to crack a joke at the dry and stoic Kaldur or laugh along with Donna or M'gann.

But this- you don't know what to say. After everything that's happened you can't even think of something to say to your dad. He looks down at you as you reach the light at the end of this final cavern. He looks like he never left. Like what happened, never happened. He just smiles like he always does. The damn roofs coming down on his head and he's smiling. Like nothing could touch him. But that's not true is it?

You try but can't manage to choke anything out as you emerge from the cave. He looks at you once more. Before you go under again. And just as when you first lost consciousness, you awake to the sound of someone calling your name. "Morgan!" Then, something awful hits your nose. You jolt up, coughing and spitting! The shit is so nasty you can damn near feel it on your tongue!

"The fuck is that! Smells like something died inside of a tube of mint toothpaste!" Robin laughs at your expense, and soon the whole team joins in.

"Batman's own special mix of smelling salts! Alfred thought they might be a little more pleasant with a scent. Only made them worse." Everyone is so busy laughing that they barely notice the mystery girl gripping her head like it'll fly off if she doesn't keep it down.

M'gann is the first to go to her. "Are you okay? Oh gosh, I mean, Obviously you're not okay but- what I mean is, are you going to be okay?"

She doesn't answer right away. Looking like she may not even know the answer to that question. "Actually. Yes. I will be." While she definitely doesn't show it on her face, you thinks she's happy.

>Alright guys, that's it for the Blood event. You happened to get through that damn near spotless, a great run. If you've got any questions on what happened or what's happening going forward. Go ahead and ask. I'll be running next weekend for sure.
>>
>>2734957
Thanks for the run, we got really lucky and now we got raven, this could get a little weird
>>
>>2734957
so dose this mean we wont have to deal with trigon, blood and all the BS they bring ever again

and did either raven or megan look through morgans mind to see what he saw?
>>
>>2734980
Can't say if Trigon will never come up again. I tried to be specific with Raven's wording. He's been pushed back REAL far with such a big success but it's not like you killed him. But Blood is dead as fuck. You won't be seeing his smug face again unless it's in your nightmares. And no one is aware of what Morgan experienced.
>>
>>2734992
good to know
also seeing as how morgan is savant like when it comes to fighting should we be concerned about earning the intrest of unknown fighters and others
>>
>>2735016
That's not something I really wanna give a hard yes or no to. So I'll just say big MAYBE. But let's face facts, someone like Morgan is going to be attention grabbing no matter what.
>>
>>2735025
true
well that's all I got for questions
so thanks for running
>>
Any chance of us seeing an alt-universe Morgan that became a villain? His powers would be perfect for an assassin.
>>
>>2735076
I'll be real with you anon, while I don't really follow Teen Titans Quest. I know the QM is doing things with evil counterparts. And since I'm trying to avoid retreading the same things as other DC quests, that's more than likely a no. But that does sound like an interesting prompt for a future write-up.
>>
>>2734957
Awesome. Will there be debriefing? Will it include Ted or his sorcerous friend?
>>
>>2735323
There will be something of a debriefing. What the Titans went through just now was a fair bit more intense than usual so there's going to be a sort of League checkup next thread. Then you'll have some freedom to just kind of do whatever you feel like. No big team stuff for a bit.

Date night with Best Girl?
>>
>>2735674
Dat pic, hnng!
We will treat that girl real nice.
>>
>>2735333
Should find our own city to patrol, tbqh. Gotham’s a bit too crowded with Batman and his band of teenagers running around. New York maybe? We do have easy access to it thanks to the tower.
>>
>>2736091
Maybe we should go look after Suicide Slums in Metropolis. Nobody else will, after all.
>>
>>2736091
I always saw Gotham as the place with so much crime you could always use another vigilante or two.

>>2736123
But this anon has got a good idea. Though it wont be the easiest place to patrol on the regular.
>>
>>2736123
Then we would have to move there, no thank you, I stay rather stay in Gotham with all its villains ... like bane and penguin and the joker ...
Let's move
>>
>>2736091
Solo stuff would be fun. Teen Titans are wildly overrepresented in quests. Let's see some more obscure DC characters. Maybe Raven can take our spot.
>>
>>2736091
Unfortunately we can't just leave our mom and our school at this point
>>
>>2736163
Well, we have fairly easy access to it, thanks to the Titan Tower being located there, which is why I selected it.
>>
>>2736123
>Suicide Slums
100% this. We gotta make sure that nothing like what happened to dad happens to someone else again.
>>
>>2739952
Wouldn't mind doing that once we've gotten older and are able to support ourselves
>>
>>2735134

DC Quest, not Teen Titans Quest.
>>
>>2732998
>I stopped after the rock falls incident

The what?

>>2733022

He's back but he's pretty shit at keeping his word when saying he'll run. Said it twice now and nothing happened both times.
>>
>>2740162
He had a rock fall in game and everyone died, game over, no refunds
>>
>>2740211

Who?
>>
>>2740150
Ah, you're right. Sorry bout that.

>>2740274
The QM of Teen Titans quest I believe.
>>
>>2740297

I don't remember that ever happening.
>>
>>2740352
I might just have the name wrong, there are a few DC quests out there. But I do remember there being a moment in one of these quests where the QM gave up in somewhat dramatic fashion.
>>
>>2740390

Oh yeah, I remember now.

That was TT Quest by Master of Games.
>>
>>2740694
>>2740390
Yeah, TT quest's QM did a rocks fall death, then came back, then gave up the quest and explained he was having some personal issues. Teen Titans quest by manthor died because he wasn't feeling righr after a death in the family, then came back, then it died again right after. DC quest is still going strong but machpunch just went on a 2 week hiatus to relax a little and work on the pastebins he's got in the backlog. Then there's this quest. I think that's all of them, or the more recent ones at least.

Oh yeah, there was also the quest with blur that started almost exactly the same time this quest and DC quest did, but that in 5 threads so it barely counts.
>>
>>2740840

That QM had a ton of shitty ideas.

>>2740836

Anonlander's Brave and the Bold Quest on Akun.
>>
It would be cool if you did one or two posts a day over the week like you did before.
