You are pilot HARRY NEUMANN, the newest of one of the New UN Spacy's Tactical Sound Units!

"All right, I suppose this is it." Dorothea says grimly as she looks at the gathered assembly.

Sitting at the briefing table were you, Amy, Lara, Karla, and Kellerman. Well, the people physically here, at least. Admiral Collier's holographic project was "sitting" in one of the vacant seats, watching the events with interest.

Of course, you were all gathered to hash out a plan to neutralize the Star Forge, an ancient Protoculture factory satellite that had been seized by a massive Zentradi armada of at least 3 million ships led by the "Warmaster".

To achieve this, all you had was the Pacifica and her accompanying fleet, a collection of stealth satellites, and landing ship full of elite shock troops.

And your ace in the hole, Amy, with her power of song.

"I say we go for a full alpha strike." Kellerman grunts. "We use Collier's stealth system to get the fleet as close as possible, and then we open up on them point blank. Blast a path to the objective."

"But, we have to fight MILLIONS of ships!" Amy points out.

"They can only fit so many ships in a certain space." Kellerman explains. "The bigger the formation, the more slow and unwieldy it will be. If we get the element of surprise, they'll be stumbling over each other."

"But superior numbers means deeper reserves." Karla speaks up. "If the battle goes on any longer than a few hours, we'll be overwhelmed, even with Amy's assistance."

"Let me guess." Kellerman frowns. "You want to be all sneaky and use the stealth system to infiltrate the objective without anyone noticing."

"Ha, you're actually right on the money!" Karla nods at the mock compliment.

"I've run the numbers. It's certainly the less casualty-prone course of action." Collier coldly adds her contribution to the discussion.

Whether to sneak in or stage and all out attack, either plan was viable, though the consequences would differ...

"I think Karla's got the right idea here." You say. "That stealth system is the perfect tool for a covert insertion. We can probably get the Roughnecks and several squadrons of Valkyries into the Star Forge without the Zentradi realizing."

"You do bring up a good point." Kellerman nods and turns to Dorothea. "And you, Admiral?"

"It sounds like an effective plan." Dorothea says calmly. "And still allows us to keep the fleet in reserve in case we need it."

"All right." Kelleman nods. "Now, from the intel we've got on the place, the Star Forge is powered by a massive fusion reactor in the center of the station. We put a couple of reaction bombs in the right spots, we can breach the reactor's containment shielding and the whole place gets turned into a nice, miniature sun."

"Sounds like a bit of waste." Karla sighs. "I think, if we can get Amy to the main communications center in the station, we can neutralize the entire Zentradi fleet and take the Star Forge without firing a shot."

"Sounds extremely optimistic." Kellerman raises a skeptical eyebrow.

"Okay, maybe quite a few shots." Karla chuckles. "But either way, it would give us the opportunity to seize the Star Forge. It would be quite the asset to NUNS, after all!"

"And quite the reputation boost for you and Admiral Collier." Dorothea glowers.

"And for you as well, Admiral Nelson." Collier replies smoothly. "For all of you, actually."

"Wait, you want me to go INSIDE that thing?!" Amy gasps.

"Well, if you feel it's too big of a risk to you, we do have this." Karla smiles as she holds up a small data stick. "We've managed to synthesize some of your songs into a recorded format, so theoretically if we plug it into their communications grid, it will handle everything."

"I-I never said I wouldn't go in." Amy grumbles.

"Can't we just do both at once?" Lara suggests.

"We can only bring a limited number of forces if we want to stay undetected." Kellerman warns. "Trying to go for two objectives will split our numbers."

"Guess it also means we don't have to run our asses off before the whole place blows us up." Lara shrugs.

"Still, I'm not sure if it's safe to have Amy go in person..." Dorothea says with some uncertainty. "I know you'd be willing to volunteer but..."

"Hey, I can totally handle it!" Amy huffs as she turns to you. "You don't need some stupid recording to replace me, right?"

"Yeah, I don't have any problems bringing Amy along." You nod. "She hasn't let us down yet."

"...heh." Amy smiles, and you swear she's blushing a bit at the praise.

"Then I suppose I have to break this elephant in the room." Kellerman grunts. "What do we do about Cole?"

Dorothea narrows her eyes.

"What about her?"

"Out of all of the Zentradi captives we've taken so far, she seems to be the most capable and the most influenced by Amy." Karla explains. "And our maps of the Star Forge are partly based off of what she had told us. She could be a useful asset for us infiltrating the station."

"But can she be trusted?" Kellerman raises an eyebrow. "I know she's warmed up to Amy a lot, but if we put her back among her people..."

"Figured you'd just have her fly shotgun with Lara." Kellerman shrugs. "It's the safest place to keep her."

"Seems like kinda a waste." Amy shrugs. "Cole's a real good fighter, isn't she? She even kicked your ass a couple times, Cap!"

"Yes, I remember." You grunt.

"I suppose it's not out of the question." Karla nods. "We've got plenty of captured Zentradi craft she can use."

"Good call." Kellerman nods.

"Well, in that case, I believe it's time we all start making our preparations." Dorothea says as she stands up. "Admiral Collier, Karla, I trust the two of you to handle the specialized equipment we'll be using."

"Of course, of course!" Karla nods happily.

"I'll make sure our Valkyries are ready to go." Kellerman says.

"Guess I'll just do some more practice." Amy shrugs.

"And how about you, Captain?" Dorothea turns to you.

"All right then." Dorothea nods. "Then everybody is dismissed."

As everybody separates and goes their own ways, you head out with Lara.

"Heh, so ya wanna join in on the fun, eh?" Lara grins as the both of you head down to the simulation pods. "Got anything in mind?"

Honestly, you were a bit curious how you'd fare against the fearsome Zentradi pilot in more... controlled conditions. She was certainly fearsome and aggressive while in the cockpit.

And out of it, now that you think out it, your hand starting to ache a bit at the memory.

"Dang, really?" Lara whistles. "You uh, gonna need any help or anything?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about!" Lara laughs as she pats you on the shoulder. "Sheesh Cap, ya don't have to be so paranoid with me!"

"Uh huh..." You nod. You were still skeptical but you otherwise couldn't glean anything more from Lara's behavior.

"Um, so did you want to spar or something?" Cole asks, being escorted by Amy.

"Yeah." You nod. "And Amy? I thought you were going to practice."

"Yeah, well, Cole said you wanted a rematch against you and I couldn't pass up seeing that!" Amy grins.

"Hey, thanks for the support." You grin as you turn to the sim pods.

"Heh, well, who else is gonna cheer for you?" Amy winks.

"Harsh." You laugh.

Cole, not wasting any time, had already hopped into one of the pods, no doubt to get herself acquainted with it. Meanwhile, Lara was at the main control console fiddling with the settings.

"So, I guess I can let you guys choose what to fly." Lara says. "But uh, what sort of battle conditions do you want?"

Well, space was generally the default terrain, and you were pretty sure that Cole was the most experienced in it. However, setting the field on a planet would introduce additional factors like atmosphere, gravity, and weather conditions. Thriving in an environment like that would certainly show a much greater degree of skill.

"Let's just do it space." You tell Lara. You figure it would be the most "fair' of fields to match your skills against the young Zentradi.

"Oho, a brave man, I see." Lara chuckles. "How cluttered do you want it to be?"

Well, having a cluttered field would provide both cover and dangerous obstacles, which would encourage the use of GERWALK and battroid modes for Valkyries. Then again, open space meant an absence of all obstacles and would be a more accurate measure of performance...

"Just keep it open." You instruct Lara as you enter one of the unoccupied simulation pods. "It keeps things simple."

"All right! Everything's set, then!" Lara chirps.

"Good luck in there, the both of you!" Amy cals out as the pod door swings shut, briefly engulfing you in darkness. There's then a hum as the controls activate and light up. You quickly go through the initial start up phase, picking your craft, a VF-19, and materializing in the empty void of space.

No sooner had the simulation started when your sensors started shrieking as an incoming object was approaching FAST. No doubt Cole, demonstrating her pure aggression as her battlesuit charged forward.

You immediately veer your VF-19 away from Cole's approaching battlesuit and hit full throttle, boosting away from her while unleashing storms of missiles. However, your first salvo proves to be ineffective, as Cole is prepared for the move and easily shoots down the approaching missiles with her battlesuit's wrist mounted cannons.

Well, you weren't expecting this to be easy anyways. You still had a narrow speed advantage over Cole's battlesuit in fighter mode, but she was no in a range where she could engage you with her own ranged weapons now, too.

And sure enough, you target warning systems shriek as Cole's battlesuit vomits forth a dozen missiles, no doubt in an attempt to slow you down.

You keep a close eye on your sensors as the missiles slowly but steadily begin gaining on your Valkyrie, closing in like predatory birds as Cole's battlesuit is not far behind.
