“Whatever… Where was I again?” Henry wonders after being interrupted.
“You joining the school gang like a dumbass, remember?” It hasn't been five minutes, come on!
“Hey no need to say it like that! Ehem…” Henry clears his throat as the depressing talk continues.

You are slowly re-entering the same flashback………………………………………

It’s been two months since I joined the school gang, and the boys are keeping their promise. They've been an asset to the team, not even half-assing it anymore! George is all smiles now, but I know in the back of my mind he and Soh know something's up. It was too convenient: the whole group came, apologized, and became team players? Just like that? Of course our deal was a secret to everyone, being on probation and all, but there was just one small problem…

“Dude, we fuckin’ suck dick! We’re always getting our asses beaten! I can’t even keep up with this shit, my body hurts every second of this training.”

I bent to this loser-ass gang here. Fucking pathetic wastes of good air. Same lot at the shopping district, same bitching and moaning after a loss. Even after five times of this, nobody in the neighborhood has even paid attention to us. It’s weird as hell. You'd think there would be more people around this time of day…

“What if we try to ambush them instead of, you know, doing the weird-ass salute with the flags and everythin’?” Gunther's not even part of the team! Did Jamie bring him here? These idiots are starting to piss me off again…
“That’s not the point! We can’t handle this anymore! We're going to end up like fuckin’ Ramirez at this rate.” Even if there's something like a fighting code in this mess (no weapons, no low blows and shit), that poor guy got a broken leg and a free trip to the hospital.

What's gonna happen to me if this keeps up?

“Hold on! Hold on! We can’t stop now, we have a battle with the reds in a few days! We have to defend the school’s honor, don't we?!" Jamie with his retarded 'honor' again. What's with that pose?
“The school’s honor?! What honor?! They even pissed on our flag! Let’s leave before things get worse.” Fuck those Yellows were tough. Had to double team them with one of the other guys to stand a fighting chance.

“Besides, the basketball team has more of a future than this.”
“No, no, no! You retard, we can’t be the only school gang that's never won a street fight!" He's looking at Gunther again. "I think Gunther's right. Maybe if we ambush them in one of those alleys a few minutes away, we can take them out…”

“Fuck you, I’m out.”
“You are not going anywhere, dipshit. One last fight and we'll stop. I promise.”
“No.”
“Hear me out. We'll bring the school’s A-Team this time. Yeah even him” Jamie grins and this time it doesn't look lame. Oh god, not him…

“There is no way in hell he’s going to help us.” Jeremy has some brain cells working, thank god.
“P-Point is, if we bring the best of the best from the school, we can at least go out with a bang. If we take the reds, you know, the best ones.” Why is honor so important to this idiot…? Jamie must have seen too many cartoons. “Everyone owes me a favor, c’mon!”

“I’m done for real.” My final response.
“You little shit!” Jamie comes at me, ready to take it to another level.

We scuffle a bit, and I end up kicking his ass not far in. Then I leave the lot like a complete badass.

[End of Flashback.]

“A complete badass who got beaten by everyone.” Henry's gaze narrows at Matilda.
“S-shut up! You weren't there…” Henry punches the floor in frustration. “Please, I just want to end my story…”

You are slowly re-entering the same flashback………………………………………Again.

It’s been a week since that incident with Jamie Lang. I came today to practice like always, but they haven’t shown up since – something's off in the air today. It’s the day of the fight with the reds, I'm probably just nervous.

“Hey Soh.” Soh's been acting manager for a while now. He's cool. “Lemme guess, McKenzie's not here either.”
He's not even looking up from his strategy notes. “Nor is George for some reason. I’m kind of worried if you haven't seen him.” The fuck? George is always here first thing! “Maybe something happened to him?” I better give him a call…

Fuck fuck fuck. Low battery. I thought I charged this shit, what the hell?!

“Hey George.” Oh good, he answered. Thought for a second there…
“Hey bitch! Guess who?!” What the fuck? Is that Jamie!? “Took you long enough! Don’t hang up, ‘cause this is going to get nasty real soon.”
Oh fuck. This is the right number…!
“Open those ears up. We got your buddy on the ropes, and we need a small favor… Unless you want your buddy to break a leg or two - and I don't mean some gay drama club shit.”

“No… You bastard…”
“Now you're getting it! You owe this to me, you hear? You owe this to everyone! Head on over to you-know-where. N-O-W!” The phone slips from my hand as he hangs up.

“Henry? What's going on? You're real pale all of a sudden…" Guess Soh heard that. I try to pick up my phone but my fingers keep slipping.
"George's in trouble, that’s what! I need to get to the empty lot and–” Got it!
“I still don’t get it. Just calm down Henry…”

I tell Soh the situation as short and simple as I can.
“You’re a fucking idiot, man.” First time I ever heard Soh swear. Damnit… “But we need to do something. I won’t let you do something this stupid again if we survive. McKenzie should still be around! Let’s go!”
“R-right…” We were wasting time trying to get more help, but I couldn't ditch Soh…

We found Coach alone in the teacher’s office watching a fucking boxing match… He kept shushing us away from the set like we're in elementary school.

“One more word about this nonsense and you’re expelled.” McKenzie's pointing in my face and he's not even looking my way!
"Didn’t you hear you brick shithead?! George is in trouble."
“If you give a shit about the foreigner, then go and fight. Stop being a little pussy.” How is he being so laidback about this shit? Isn't he a teacher?!

Soh walks up next to me. Wait, he's not gonna— “Mr. McKenzie, school brawls are against regu—” Coach sighs really fucking loudly and Soh shuts up. Is that alcohol on his breath?!
“Look twerp, just go fight and be a real man, okay?"
“W-wait, you're letting this happen?!” I always knew Coach was a retard, but not like this!

“Pfft. Of course! We need more 'little prospects' for everyone’s favorite sport!" The crowd in the TV roars as he takes a big gulp from that novelty cup of his, then holds it up to the TV set. "And since the city’s governor banned boxing from schools, this is the only way. Having misbehaving kids wreaking havoc around, vandalizing some shit here and there, not having a good place to vent their frustrations after the ban… Maybe then those dumb politicians'll reconsider taking our fun away!”
“Boxing? What?” This doesn’t even make sense!
“Just move those legs! Or have you never heard about a wheelchair-bound kid winning the nationals…?” He smirks and chugs his drink. One of the guys in the boxing ring is bleeding everywhere and the crowd won't stop cheering…

I hear a smacking sound, then a big clunk noise. I turn to look and Soh's on the ground next to McKenzie. He has a bruise on his face, looking at Coach with a look I never want to see Soh make again. Before I can do anything else I get another call from Jamie.
“You don’t want to answer that, unless you want to hear George screaming in pain… Now fuck off.” McKenzie turns back to that fucking boxing match again.
Soh just gets up and walks to the door. I follow him and all I can hear is the crowd screaming from the TV.

I had no choice but to ditch Soh. I don't think I've ran faster in my whole life. The phone wouldn't stop ringing… ringing… ringing… ringing…

When I got to the lot, absolutely no one was there but the Reds. All four dozen of them, including their leader. They moved aside to let me through to him, but then they closed up behind me. Jamie and the others fucking set me up, so I might as well accept it.

“What the fuck? Where are the fucking Greens?! Where's a real challenge?!” At the time I didn’t know his name, but later I found out he’s Trent Figg.
So much running. "They set me up." My voice wouldn't come. “Please I need your help! The Greens set me up, and I know—”
“Keep that shit to yourself! Today you’re gonna pay for what they did to us.” Trent grins and starts laughing. Soon everybody else joins in. I could barely hear the guy say the rest. “You're gonna be our message to them. Guys, you know what to do!”

I don’t remember much of the actual beatdown, but man… It fucking hurt.
After two solid minutes of endless pain, I heard someone scream something somewhere. It hurt to see but it hurt more to hear. A large group of people appeared and started fighting the thugs back.
That’s when Gunther the fat man showed up, said something, and dragged my body out of the lot like some vintage war movie… I went out shortly after that. I couldn’t do anything but listen to their plan like the dumbass I am.

“Pssst! Hey kid, want superpowers…?” A distorted voice talks to me from somewhere. I can't tell where their sound is coming from. Is this a dream or what? “I saw what happened out there. Call me a dissatisfied spectator, a vocal critic.”
“What's happening? Who are you?”
“Oh yeah, name's Kaishen. I want to bring luck back to your life. I’m willing to sacrifice my entire fortune just to see you succeed against those runts and everyone like them.”

“But George, he’s already…” I failed him.
“You can’t let them get away with it. They can't keep getting away with it. I’ll help you from now on. I’ll give you your payback.”
“…I don’t feel like revenge will make me feel any better. I just want to help my friend.” George is about the only real friend I have. Not even my family cared as much as he did…
“You never know, buddy! Give it a chance! Maybe you'll gain everything you've ever wanted, and then some!”
“Fine, if you insist.” Whoever this guy is, listening to him feels… warm?
“Yeah buddy, let's do this! Lady Luck's smiling brighter than ever!” He's right in front of me now. He looks weird as hell, but I'm liking what he's saying.

[End of Flashback.]

Henry tries to wipe the tears on his face. “…And that’s my story. George is in the Grand Hospital on rehab after the beat down the others gave him. It's going to take a long time, but knowing him… He'll recover.” He raises his fist, but it's shaky.
You can't stop yourself from opening your mouth. “Wait, what? I feel like part of the story is missing.”
“Dude I woke up in the hospital, where else? I stayed there for like a month! When I came back a few weeks later, fucking Jamie was dead and McKenzie was in a wheelchair for life!"

Amelia scratches her head and tilts it. “But you never talked with the others to know what happened with them – or you know, to get revenge?"
“I know most of them changed schools after that. And revenge isn’t really my thing. Never was.” Henry shrugs.

There's still something you're curious about… “Then why the masked vigilante thing later?”
“Aside from being the right thing to do at the time, I wanted to put a stop to those school brawls. Other than that, that’s it…” You already figured Henry was a misguided guy trying to do good.

“I thought McKenzie was a good guy. I’m sorry Henry, this is my fault too… I could have stopped it if I knew.” Henry's story brought Nina to tears again!
Matilda looks like she ate your old cooking. “So that kid is going to be remembered as a pathetic loser then. I know they ended up losing that mob brawl at the end there, even with Blake Wilkinson by their side.”
Henry snaps out of his pose. “W-wait, you know about this?”
“I know more than you expect, but less than you hope.” What a Matilda thing to say!

What do you say now?

>“Fuck, Trent really IS an asshole. At least he's on our side now?”
>“Sorry about that buddy. Maybe you could have done something else?”
>“In a way, I’m responsible for avenging you. You’re welcome I guess.”

We always roll 1d100!
I use the average (the mean) of the 4 best rolls and success will be determined by the difficulty I specify for the action or prompt. If there are less than 4 rolls I’ll do the math with the ones I have.
Above 45 is a success on a normal roll. Above 55 is a success on a hard roll. The hardest rolls I won’t specify because I find it more fun if I don’t.
Rolling over a 95 is a critical strike and ignores the other rolls!
We will roll after the voting is done.

“In a way, I’m responsible for avenging you. You’re welcome I guess?” From a certain point of view, you were responsible for getting rid of everyone evil in the story. Blake for obvious reasons, McKenzie got crippled by Blake, and Jamie exploded in the arcade along with the other two guys you didn’t care about.
“I didn’t hate Blake all that much, dude…” Henry tilts his head as he keeps staring at you. Matilda gives her own stare at you, then shakes her head. “Yeah but that wasn’t everything. Remember he…”

Briefly, Matilda explains all that you did and did not do more than a month ago…

Amelia jumps in the air and pumps her fist! “I knew your school was full of thugs Johnny!” You can see Nina’s eyelid twitch at hearing this from your sister. “I very much believe they are the exception than the rule. Green Foothill is the oldest school in the city. Most families put their kids in there just for that.”
“Wait, that’s a thing?” You never thought the history of a shitty place like your school would be a reason for people to go there at all.

“It doesn’t mean it’s a historically good school or anything.” Matilda’s stare moves from you to Uccelli at her words. “It’s almost like a family tradition of sorts. That’s what the Principal told me when I got the job a few years ago. Explains the discrepancy of house incomes of the students.” Nina shrugs. “Then again I’m no finance teacher. Take it for what it is.”
“I didn’t know either, boss. I just went because it was the closest school to my place.” Henry shrugs.

“Well, time for the final truth bomb.” Matilda looks at you.
“Mine and Amelia’s are about the same. And I don’t know if she and I are mentally prepared to tell it today…” You give your little sister a knowing look, and she hides behind you a little. “Do you want me to share it?”
“Ngh…” Amelia squirms under your gaze. "I don't know if I can handle it right now..."

Nina’s face softens as she looks at Amelia, with the same look she gave you the first time you told her about your family.“Well Bradford isn’t here either. Maybe you three can tell yours next time?”
“I promise we’ll tell our story when it’s time. It’s really deeply personal and… there’s some things that I need to look into later.” You clench your fist in your lap. Everyone at the table gives you a concerned sort of look, but you feel Amelia putting her hand over yours. You sigh and loosen your fist, tension easing out of your body as your her fingers interlace with yours.

“Any way we can help?” Henry shows his good side. After hearing his story, you’re more willing to hear him out.
“No way that I’m aware of. If things get complex, we’ll see about that.” You adjust your glasses.
>>
>>2766476

“I can help… for a sum.” Matilda gives you her usual smirk. You trust her to be helpful when the time comes. “Speaking of money, how are you guys going to pay me for all this training I’ve been giving you? I prefer cash, but I can also do favors or other items of equal value.”
The color drains out of Nina’s face. “H-how much we owe you?”
“You know I don’t know how much exactly – let me make some calculations.” She pulls out her phone and types very quickly. Nina audibly gulps.

Guess that’s all for this long chat. What do you do now?

>Invite the whole gang to eat over at your place. A good after-training meal awaits everyone!
>Invite only Amelia to eat at your place. You two will figure out what to do with her father after.
>Time to part ways! You need time to digest all the bitter truths you just swallowed. Maybe cooking for the hobos will help clear your mind and stomach?

“500 Gor$ total.” Matilda double checks the numbers as Nina and Henry look on in shock. “Only once. I need some help to pay for repairs.” She motions her hands to show the house you’ve been using...
“That’s awfully cheap for how it was before.” You remember the old state of this place, but Matilda is unmoved. “I never overspent.”
“W-w-we’ll discuss the payment methods next time, okay…?” “I-I agree.” Nina and Henry both want out!

“…I’ll pay.” A somber voice comes from a corpse! It’s Osgood, still alive in the corner! He slowly pulls out his wallet and hands Matilda the money in cash, hand shaking. “…But don’t you ever punish me again.” His voice sounds hollow. You would almost say traumatized if you didn’t know better.
“I don’t want to take advantage of you like this, man.” You take out a few hundreds you had in your wallet, and Matilda actually licks her lips! A slight chill crawls down your spine for the briefest of moments. Goodbye 250 Gor$!

With that, Osgood collapses again.

“Fantastic. A pleasure to make business with you.” Matilda’s voice doesn’t change from her monotone, but her eyes don’t leave the bills as she counts them. “Johnny, come here.”
“Huh?” You get closer to the greedy girl. She in turn gets closer to you, whispering. “I’ll trust you with this.” She puts a key in your hand. “It’s for this place.”
“Pretty reasonable for the fee you’re asking.” You stare at it. It’s just a plain old-fashioned metal key. “Maybe I can put it under a rug or something, so everyone can use it?”
“No. It’s only for you.” Matilda doesn’t look pleased. Weird gal.

“Hey Amelia, here’s a new bottle in case you’re running out.” Nina takes something from her bag. “Try to not use as much as before.” It’s a… shampoo bottle?
“I will, thank you!” Amelia looks at it mildly content. “Hehehe…!”

“Oh, I just noticed your hair isn’t as puffy as before.” Must have been a recent thing from your sister. Not bad. Seems Henry’s impressed. “Woah, you’re right boss!”
Amelia looks disappointed as she stares off to the side. Out of nowhere, her stomach starts to rumble! She’s hungry! And embarrassed. Great.

“Meeting’s over then, go eat if you want. I’ll need you all tomorrow after classes.” Matilda stares at her phone. “I’m going to stay here and clean up.”
“Right… Who’s going with me?” Zombie Osgood moans at the group. “Yeah, dumb question – everyone is.”

“No, Amelia and I are going to walk.” You tell the supposedly handsome man.
“B-but my body hurts…” One glare at your sister is enough. “S-sure… We’ll walk…”

“Hey Johnny, I was thinking – perhaps… I… You… I mean we…” Nina is acting strange.
“Ha! She wants more! You really won her thirsty little heart, didn’t you?” Matilda elbows you, making Nina’s face go red as she takes her things. “I-it’s not like that! F-forget it.”
As you get up to leave, you hear Henry whispering “Someone’s got a little pissy…” over at Osgood’s corner.

And everyone went their separate ways! You’re enjoying a nice little walk with your sister.

“My feet hurt. My bag is heavy. The sun is getting in my eyes – Why are we walking again?”

You were enjoying a nice little walk with your sister, until she started being an annoying nuisance.
Did she forget that an hour ago she was so badly hurt about being left alone? Must have been all talk.

What do you say to your ungrateful ingrate sister?

“Come here, I’ll carry you.” You motion her to come closer in this fraternal activity that you are doing out of the goodness of your heart. Yes. Not because she’s been bitching for almost 10 minutes straight, or anything.
“Eh…? Eeeeeeeeeeeh?!” Amelia freezes in her tracks. “You’re still wounded a-a-and someone could see us?”
“So?”
“So?! It’s embarrassing! Right?” Amelia’s eyes are looking anywhere but at you as her face goes slightly red.

“Then if you wanna walk, walk. Don’t complain.”
“Uhm… Uhm…” She really does look tired, but she finally makes up her mind. “O. K. I will!!!”

Amelia hands you her bag, then jumps on your back! She’s not all that heavy. The bag probably weighs more than her, especially after all the training she had to do. She’s firmly grasping your neck, though not enough to bother you.

“I actually can’t believe you did it. Hell, I didn’t even need to insist. Let’s go!” You jest, feigning enthusiasm as best as you can. You’re not sure if it worked or not, but Amelia looks extremely embarrassed from the corner of your eye, so maybe it worked?
You can feel her heavy breathing passing next to your ears as you continue moving down the street. A few other people on the street stare at you and give you looks, but who gives a fuck about them?

“Enjoying the ride? Or is the horse too uncomfortable for you?”
She buries her face in your neck. “I’m good.”
“Hey, don’t tell me you always wanted to do something like this?”
Your sister starts breathing more erratically; probably more embarrassed than ever.

“You actually did, didn’t you? Ha!” The brotherly bullying continues! “I never knew you were that type of girl… So cliché.
Heavy breathing intensifies.
“Stop that, you’re actually tickling me.” You want to scratch your neck. It’s like a mosquito bit it.

“…Thanks for not hating me.” Amelia whispers low enough that you have trouble hearing her, even with her mouth literally right behind your ears.
“Case ain’t closed yet, Ame.” Amelia freezes up again. “…But you’re always going to be my dull derpy little sister, no matter what happens.” Forever together since ever, something that never really bothered you. Sure she’s annoying, but that’s how little sisters are supposed to be, right?
“…And you’re going always to be my cool big brother.”

Why did the sun suddenly start making your face feel hot? Your cheeks are absolutely burning up! Is this a freak summer heat wave or something?!

“Okay, this is embarrassing – we should stop.” You stop to smell a rosebush in the front garden of some apartment, close to the sidewalk. Looking around, you’re probably 5 minutes away from home.
“I agree… Hehehe…”
Suddenly you get another, different smell. From somewhere close by… It’s gotta be…!
”…You stink, you know that?”
“I-I-I just exercised!” That lucky guess paid off!
“Well, I don’t stink at all, right?”
“I-I… Ngh…”

And then you continue teasing her the rest of the way. She wasn’t too happy about it, but you thought it was funny – and in the end, that’s all that matters to you. That, and doing your best.

You arrive at your apartment. You open the door still carrying your sister.

“We’re back.” You say in a loud monotone.
“Hi Johnny! Amelia!” Nariko face lights up when she sees you both, completely ignoring Amelia piggybacking on you.
“Heeeeeeey yooooooo! You two look like shiiiiit! What the fuck happened?” Yu Yan waves at you from the couch with a wry grin. “You’re all pale and tired and sweaty and stuff.”
“N-nothing!” Amelia stammers out, hurriedly dropping off your back. “I’m going to take a shower!” She takes off running inside the bathroom with her bag.

After the bathroom door shuts, Yu Yan gives you a hard, serious look. “Seriously, what’s going on?” She’s more perceptive than you expected. Not like it’s hard to tell anyway.

How do you respond?

>“Nothing, I’ll make lunch.” Instead of spouting useless questions, she should stuff her face with food!
>“It’s a long story… Maybe one day I’ll tell you. One day.” Be vague and evasive for the hell of it!

“We shared our flashbacks together… I mean past stories. Some were heavy hitters, so we aren’t doing all that great emotionally.” You explain to the second hobo in command.
“With who? Your group?”
“Yes, basically...” You scratch the back of your head.

Her eyes go wide. “Can you tell me about it? I would love to hear it.” Yu Yan’s curiosity is showing.
“Ehm… I just told you that we’re not doing great emotionally and somewhat physically, especially Amelia…”
“I meant later. I would share mine, but I don’t remember shit.” She giggles for a bit. “Remember we live together, ‘my dear Johnny’. We have plenty time to spare to get to know each other… And who knows? Maybe I might have some new memories soon…” Yu Yan winks at you, and gives you a look close to something you’ve only seen Nina give you. Whatever she’s implying, you want none of it!
“Yu Yan, Ms. Nina told you to stop swearing.” Nariko seems concerned, but she gives Yu Yan a strange glare as she does so. This is getting weirder and weirder…!

Woah, you felt a little dizzy just now. You almost trip as the world spins around you, but cling to the wall just in time!

“Johnny…?” Nariko crawls over the couch to get to you, pushing Yu Yan aside! Yu Yan grumbles at this, but immediately stops when she sees you. “Oh snap, you’re not doing any good too.” Yu Yan stands up and drags you to the couch next to Nariko, who moved to make room.
“I’m fine, I swear...” Is she really that concerned?

“Does he look fine to you, Nariko?” Yu Yan is still grumpy.
Nariko shakes her head really hard. They’re obviously exaggerating.
“Stay put, we’ll deal with lunch.” Yu Yan rushes to the kitchen. “Nariko, check on Ame then come help me.”
“Y-yes!” Nariko leaps off the couch and goes to the bathroom… Amelia is yelling something to Nariko, but it’s too muffled so you stop paying attention to it.

Somehow the dynamic duo managed to deal with everything related to lunch! You are especially surprised, though Amelia not so much.

“I forgot to tell ya, but the apartment owner came in here with a bunch of food! Like, a month’s worth! He straight up gave it to us!” Yu Yan explains with a full mouth as everyone continues eating Nariko’s lunch. Absolutely incredible, but you know Nariko learned from THE BEST.
“He says it was an apology to you, dear Johnny.” Nariko is already talking strangely again. “I wonder what sort of grievous wrong he must have committed, to be so compelled to repent…”
“Maybe it has to do with whatever Johnny did yesterday down there with him…?”

Yu Yan is getting way too sharp for her own good right now! Time to change topics!

“Nariko, this lunch is delicious.” Poker Nights need to remain a secret.
“Huh?! Really?! I’m delighted to hear such praise from you, dear Johnny!” Nariko is all sunshine and rainbows now.
“Hey Nariko, did you ever give you-know-what to you-know-who that day?” Amelia asks the eloquent hobo. Her plate is already almost done! Did her bear give Amelia the appetite of a real bear too?!
“Dear Amelia, that must remain a secret!” Nariko is blushing harder than with your compliment. Something’s up…

Yu Yan looks at Nariko in confusion. Wait, they left Yu Yan out of whatever they’re up to?
“P-please, keep enjoying your meal dear Yu Yan.” Nariko evades her gaze.

A few minutes after that awkward conversation, lunchtime is over. It was delicious! Your mood is getting better than before – but that doesn’t mean the girls here are less concerned about your well-being.

What do you do?

“Amelia, we need to talk privately in my room.” You tell your sister as you take the plates to the kitchen.
“O.K.” Amelia's voice deflates as she makes her way to your room.

Yu Yan watches her go apprehensively. “Uh-oh, that ain’t good.”
“It is something we musn’t meddle with, dear Yu Yan. Privacy is important for—”
“Yeah yeah, I get it! No need to explain it like I’m stupid!” Yu Yan obnoxiously handwaves Nariko’s explanation aside. “Let’s do something fun in the meantime. I don’t wanna end up eavesdropping ‘em.” Yu Yan looks around for a bit, then stares at Nariko. “…What game did you like again?”
“This one!”

Guess that’s going to entertain them in the meantime. After leaving the plates in the sink, you went to your room. Amelia is sitting on your bed looking at the ceiling, like trying to find an answer for her predicament. You close the door behind you, and when you hear the hobo duo turning the TV on, you knew it’s time for you to commence this talk.

“Amelia, about what you told me before. You and I both know it can’t end there.”
Amelia turns to you, her face showing her sorrow, her conflict – her struggle! You are so into this you’re feeling poetic. “I know...” Amelia sounds hurt like she did before, but there’s something off this time…
You take a deep breath then turn to the door. “So you must know that YU YAN SHOULD NOT BE HEARING THIS CONVERSATION RIGHT NOW, OR ELSE SHE'S GOING TO GET A SPANKING!” You hear someone thumping on the ground and moving away. Probably Yu Yan. Little snitch.

“How did you know?” Amelia is buying herself time.
“She’s not sharp ‘cause she’s a great detective, let’s leave it as that…” Damn spies! “Are you ready to talk now?”
“I don’t think I’ll ever be, so let’s do it now before it gets even worse…” Amelia musters her courage for what’s to come.

What do you propose?

>“I want a one-on-one talk with him right now. I’m going to get my answers, and I promise nobody will get hurt. Is that good enough for you?”
>“Let’s question him together. We can find out the truth straight from him, and knowing that you suspect something might spook him into talking.”
>“Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t leave this apartment right now and beat the hell out of him, Ame. Go ahead, I’m listening.”

“What do you think I should do? I can’t just leave things like this and play pretend. I can’t trust him to be your guardian – not after that. I have to do something, Amelia. But what?” You explain the situation as clearly as you can to your sister, who can’t find the answer either – she only looks down at the floor, begging the world for an answer she won’t get.
“I don’t know…” She finally says what she’s thinking, but there’s no use for an answer like that.

“Amelia, I can’t promise I’ll be able to control myself when I see him next time unless we have a plan.” You find yourself pacing back and forth across your room as you talk.
The restlessness you've kept under wraps since you first heard the truth is boiling over.
The restlessness you’ve kept under wraps since you first lived with your father is boiling over.
Isn’t it, Johnny?

Are you shaking? Must be whatever’s left of the dizzy moment you had earlier. Yeah, that’s it.

“I could move in here and you let him be?” Amelia can’t look you in the eye. She’s sitting completely still. No answer. Assumes he’s also passive.
“Do you really think that would work?” You run your hand through your hair and take a breath, before holding up a finger. “One, he’s not going to stay put – and two,” You throw up a second finger. “That doesn’t solve anything.” Except grant your enemy more time.
“But I don’t know what to do…!

You lean against an open spot on one of the walls. “Amelia, I want answers. I want to ask why our mother had to die – why does he hate me? What the fuck did I do to deserve this?! And why shouldn’t I just kill him?!” A pain in your hand draws your attention from the look on your sister’s face. There’s red nail marks in your palm, and they weren’t there before.

Fuck, your anger is coming out. Calm your head. Take a few breaths. Focus.

“Ame, you’re involved. And I care more about you than my dumb revenge. I want to do my best for you, just like mom always did. I want you to be safe and happy.” Your words come out sounding empty and unconvincing, even though they’re the truth. Aren’t they?

“…I think we should go see him. Or give me more time to think? I really don’t know! I just want to say that whatever you decide to do, I’ll back you up 100%.”

So it’s always up to you, huh? You need to think hard about your decisive move here…
Amelia’s future is in danger here, and you have some idea of what a big brother must do…

Doing nothing is no longer an option that matters. You have to decide…

>Confront Amelia’s father right now, once and for all! You’ll know what to do when you see him, you hope. Maybe you won’t need to resort to anything… Drastic.
>Take Amelia’s stuff from her house. She’s moving here ASAP – the moment that bastard realizes she’s gone, you will confront him. And then… Who knows?
>Give Amelia more time to think. She’s moving here anyway. Not exactly the best environment to meditate with two hobos – but it’s safe… And that’s what matters.

We're angry, confused, frustrated, and also dealing with and processing everyone elses reason for having their partner. She, no, WE need time to settle down. And as much as I want to bring Amelia here, I don't think Craig will appreciate us having ANOTHER freeloader in our house, even if she is family.

We can do both, we are to fucking pissed to not do something drastic, this is a long haul war, and we cant afford to jeopardies everyone by getting our asses sent to jail. We tell our God cop, the poker team, sans Osgood, and Matilda. Maybe even talk to her old man in her dojo, and ask them as a group there personally for advice. If any possible outcome for a group could assist us at this moment to find a good solution, this is the best course of action.

We will need answers, and going there could help us find the info we need. There is a reason he kept to that damn job, just need to find it.

Also, a good idea is to have that red shift ready. I am going to assume he will either have a weapon or try to call the police. Stopping either from happening can save us complications and also serve as a way to bring about more pressure onto him.

You make your decision, and all your stress and anger suddenly fade into the background.

“You’re moving in here first and foremost then. If you need more time to think you’ll need a safe place for it. We’re going for your stuff now.” Then you are going to inform the people from Poker Nights about this. They’re all influential (and quirky) in their own way. At least you’re pretty sure Jackson can be of help - hell even Matilda would be able to find some evidence! Add an expert like Richard into the mix and...!
Oh gosh, now that you think about it, you know a lot of useful people!

“O.K…” Amelia shyly agrees, visibly relaxing. You didn’t exactly pay attention to it at the time, but Amelia looked horrified a bit ago. It’s good that she’s feeling better about this, and so do you for having a goal in mind.
“Maybe we could find evidence, so he coul—” Someone knocks the door loudly, interrupting your thought. Since you’re already walking back and forth again, you went to open the door. It’s Yu Yan with a glass of water on hand. She has a pouty look on her face.

WHAT?!” You snarl in the persistent freeloader’s face.
Yu Yan takes it unflinchingly. She puts her fingertips inside the glass, touches the water, and then flicks it at you – like cleansing a dark spirit. “Calm your tits, amigo.” The ruffian woman quips, leaving you speechless with her actions. You’re probably angrier now. Fuck.

You can’t help but stare dumbfounded.

“Go take a shower and relax.” Yu Yan seems concerned. “You probably stink from training too, right?”
“It’s not the best moment for that, you know?”
“Nariko said she never heard you scream like that before. And by the looks of it, no one else has.” She looks behind you, where Amelia is… Who has an anguished look on her face now.
You pause for a moment. “F-fine…” Is your anger getting the best of you?

“Remember to be careful, you still don’t look too good. I don’t want you to slip and fall in there, you hear me?” Yu Yan leads you to the bathroom. You don’t need this help from her, but you don’t mind.
“Johnny…?” Nariko’s looking concerned from the couch, just like everybody else around you today. What? Can’t a man get angry once in a while without everyone you know acting like you killed someone?
“Don’t stand there and stare at him like a sad puppy! Tell Amelia to bring this stud some clothes.” Yu Yan grins and shoots you another look at the ‘stud’ comment. Ugh.

Perhaps Yu Yan wasn’t all that wrong! This shower is helping you reflect on some things like… the water is too hot, better change it! Fuck, now it’s too cold! Fuck it, you didn’t want to shower anyway! Okay, perhaps you are just a little bit pissy right now…

You get out of the bathroom as clean as your police record. Nariko is the only one waiting for you with something in her hands.

“Here, some milk.” Nariko hands you a glass.
“Why…?”
“It nourishes the deprived spirit.” Nariko smiles.
“Thanks…?” This situation is getting weirder and weirder. You're not a fan of the milk though, needs some sugar.

“I’m ready, Johnny. Let’s go grab my stuff!” Amelia is trying to act like her usual self.
“I’m going too. Neither of you two should go outside like this… Maybe we can buy something delicious to eat on the way!” Yu Yan is almost acting like a responsible adult. Almost.

What do you do?

>Go with Amelia and Yu Yan for Amelia’s things. You’ll only take the important stuff.
>Call Osgood and ask him if he can help you move some stuff.

You shrug, perfectly okay with this. “Sure, why not?”
“Ha! You really calmed down after the shower huh?” Yu Yan smiles wide. The three girls share a look, and something invisible seems to pass between them. Amelia and Nariko seem to smile a little wider. Huh. You wonder what’s up with that…
“We’re taking only the essentials, alright?” You tell your sister who nods furiously.
“Have a safe trip!” Nariko happily waves at you before your little gang parts ways with the OG hobo.

And so, the three of you traverse the vast lands of Pokyo Lokyo – a long journey that was 3 streets away from home… Anyway, you’re once again outside the house you used to call home. Amelia opens the front door and goes inside…

“Hey, snap out of it. Let’s go.” Yu Yan ruffles your hair before heading in, a spring in her step as she begins to look around.
“S-sorry…” This is going to be awkward as all hell.

Inside the house is almost like you remembered it, except they have a bigger TV in the living room than before. Same walls, same roof, same furniture, same decor, same everything even all these years after… No photos though.
There are many questions coming to your mind as you continue to examine the place, feeling a sense of nostalgia and longing you really shouldn’t be feeling… Should you?

“You doing alright, Johnny?” Amelia places a hand on your arm as she notices you spacing out.
“Ehm… Yeah…”
“You used to live here, right?” Yu Yan asks you instantly, without any chill.

You remain silent for some reason. Why? Of course you can answer her easily, but why not?

“Yes, he did…” Amelia doesn’t sound too happy now.
“S-sorry I’m getting lost in my thoughts.” You apologize to the unapologetic girl. Why are you still stammering? You have no reason to be bothered right now. No reason at all!
“It’s alright.” Yu Yan doesn’t seem to mind, brushing it off easy. “C’mon, Ame. Go for your stuff, this place is starting to give me the creeps.”
“Don’t say that…!” Amelia pouts and huffs at Yu Yan. “Dad had a special work meeting today, so he’s not going to be around until much later. We have some time to kill and… stuff to pack.” Amelia adjusts her glasses and grins. Good thing she’s taking this in stride.

From a wardrobe, Amelia takes a giant bear-shaped bag. Does she intend to carry everything she has in there?! The bag does seem familiar for some reason you can’t remember…

“Just make sure you pack your toothbrush, because no way are you using mine.”
“Aye, aye…” There is a sentiment of melancholy in the atmosphere. She’s going to leave this place she calls home after being here for so long. At least she has it easier than you when you were forced to do it. “Yupie, come here and help me!”
>>

“I told you not to call me Yupie, damnit!” Yu Yan stomps after your sister. "Now he's going to make fun of me when we get back!" She looks really mad, which does wonders for your morale.

While the girls are busy packing, you for some reason feel the need to visit your old room – it’s on the floor above next to Amelia’s. You need to wait for them to do their thing so you can sneak inside without being noticed.

After a few minutes of hearing them talk, you swiftly move upstairs to see your old place and reminisce about old times.
Fuck, the door is locked! Wait, you’re the one who knows the neat trick to open it without the key! Came in handy plenty of times to fool everyone.
A-ha! They still haven’t fixed the lock and doorknob even after these years!

You slowly open the door and see… nothing. The room almost all pitch black, you can’t see shit! The curtains are closed, so you need to open them or...

You close the door behind you and turn on the lights. To be quite honest, you should have expected it wasn’t going to look exactly the way you left it – it was years ago since you were here, after all. But you certainly weren’t expecting something like this:

A cold empty room, with absolutely nothing but boxes lying haphazardly around a bed with only the mattress and frame remaining, alongside bare walls with nothing on them. Relics of the past that for some reason you still cherish.

Not only that, but your sheetless bed is layered with the many photos and portraits that used to decorate the rest of the house – like they sealed away all their happy memories together, and shoved them in with their no-so-happy memories of you. These mementos shouldn’t be here! A longing feeling somewhere in your chest is telling you to keep them for yourself.

Fuck, some of the dust got into your eyes…

And your mouth! Eugh! You need something to cover your face… Your hands aren’t enough…

“There are so many of them…” Philonune comments in a hollow voice. “To think treasures like these would be this removed from the proud eyes that value them… I do not know how it feels to have something like a human family, but surely this is not what it’s supposed to be.”
You move your wet hands away from your face to take a coughing breath, wiping them on your pants. “Mom loved taking pictures.” You swallow to clear the hitch in your throat. “Hell, these aren’t even all of them. There are albums bursting full of ‘em. I wonder where they are.”
“Perhaps they are around here?” He floats around you, trying to check the nearest boxes but failing without hands.

You open the door to her room and woah… It doesn’t look like before! The bear decorations are gone and the whole place looks almost like a normal girl’s bedroom! Well, there are still some bears here and there, but ain’t as bad as before!

The two girls are trying to fit things in that poor bear that shouldn’t be possible. You decide to interrupt them before they get out of hand.

“Hey, uh, Ame? You got a second…?”
“Johnny! Where were you? The bathroom? Did something happen?” Amelia notices you looking kind of derpy and weak. “…Why is your face wet?”
“Jeez, you look terrible – are you feeling okay? Take it easy.” Yu Yan’s been concerned way too much lately.
Damn, she noticed your face. What was it again…? “Yeah. The room I was in was a little dusty, it got into my eyes… Ame, please.” You leave, hoping for your sister to follow you.
“Don’t worry, go with him…! I’ll see how to make all of this fit!” Yu Yan elbows your sister towards the door.

Amelia follows you shortly after. You show her the room you unlocked, and her eyes open wide.

“Y-you opened it…!”
You silently nod and signal her to come in.

Amelia looks around the room with what you think is the same feeling of melancholy you felt before. She finally notices the frames and photos on your bed. She slowly approaches them…

“Those are…!”
“Yep.” You just nod.
“Oh! Remember this? When we got our first console! And this! That weird wedding, I remember they told you to comb your hair! You were furious!” She’s having a blast! “Look! It’s our Halloween picture! You really [did scare me that one time! A-and it’s the picture I wanted! It’s us with Mom!” Amelia cherishes her memories and shows you the picture you wanted to keep.

“Johnny! Thank you!” Amelia is really, really happy. So happy that without even thinking it, she hugs you. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside – the total opposite you’ve been feeling so far today. “I thought dad got rid of them. Remember when I tried to escape years ago? When I came back the house was empty, and the door to this room was completely locked. I tried to sneak inside tons of times – I even tried to come in through the window!” She points at the curtained window, still locked. “I managed to save one photo in the house though. I have it in my room – you wanna see it?”
You can’t help but smile. “I’d love to.”

“Hehehe. I wonder if these will fit in the bear...” Amelia sure is greedy. “Where are the albums?”
“I don’t know. I just checked these photos and decided to call you.”
Amelia turns to look at the rest of the photos on the bed. “Remember how much you hated Mom taking pictures? It seems it wasn’t a bad idea at all!”
“I was wrong, yes.” You grudgingly admit your fault, before smirking at her. “But you don’t look too happy either in the bear suit one.”
“Ugh! Ehm! That one was pretty embarrassing… at the time, I mean…” She’s lying. She still feels embarrassed about it. “You know…”

“Hmm? What is it?”
“We should totally take a photo with everyone together!” That’s extremely cliché for a scene like this, come on.
You pull out your the most sarcastic monotone you can muster. “Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.” And the biggest of death flags.
“Hehehe! I don’t know about that. I know everyone would love to! Besides we can force at least Nariko and Yu Yan to do it.”

“Force me to do what?” Yu Yan pokes her head in the room with perfect timing and chimes in unwanted.
“Yu Yan! Look! Our family photos…! On second thought, don’t look! These are our family photos!” Amelia is conflicted.
“I want to see baby Johnny, where is he?!” Yu Yan’s eyes start sparkling. “I need to make fun of him more!”
Nuh-uh. No. Not having any of this right now. “There’s no such thing here.”

“What’s up with this place anyway? Smells like a rotten tomb.” Yu Yan strolls in and looks around.
“It used to be my room. Take a wild guess.”
“Nah, your real place smells nice.” Yu Yan, that sounded creepy as fuck.
“Yu, that’s a little creepy to say.” Amelia echoes your thoughts without you speaking them!

“Oh, shut it. Nothing to be ashamed of for using deodorant.” Yu Yan is pouting again. “Ready to go, amigos? I packed everything I could.”

You ready?

>Leave and take the happy photos with you. You’re done here for now, until he finds out about this. Then you’ll have more to deal with.
>Search for clues about Mom’s assassination! If this is your stepfather’s secret room, everything he doesn’t want to be seen should be here!
>Search for the albums! Your most embarrassing memories should be around here somewhere. Maybe in that pile? That one? Over there?
>Find that gosh darn lost console! Should be around somewhere! The vidya you have for it should be still alongside it, wherever it is!
>Write In.

Revel in the good ol' days. Our mom was smart to take photos, maybe we really should take up the tradition..

Hopefully there is a extra bag or two in the piles.
Either way, snag what we can.

“Let’s look around for those albums. Mom would want that.”
“Alright, but let’s do it fast!” Amelia invokes her bear! What the hell?!
“Jeeez!!” Yu Yan almost falls to the ground! “Don’t scare me like that!” Oh yeah, she can still see flame entities even with her memory wiped. You forgot that was a thing.

Amelia’s determined! “Saraswati, you know what to do!” This only confuses her bear further! “Rawr…?! No I don’t! I might be a goddess of knowledge, but how am I supposed to know where your random memorabilia are stored in this dingy place?!” She folds her arms and gives Amelia a disapproving look, then disappears. These demons really defy the ‘you will control me in the real world’ service they claim to provide.
“Ame, let’s just look around – they should be here. Maybe we can even find my old games too.” Been a while since you played any vidya, especially since the war started. Even if you won’t play them again, they’re still your vidya!

And the quest to find the lost artifacts began! It was a tenuous and difficult affair, but in the end you found everything you were looking for and more…! Not more, but everything nonetheless!
Now you have two big fat bear-bags full of stuff you looted to carry home! They are kind of heavy…

You told Yu Yan you would check the albums thoroughly back at your apartment...

“T-they’re almost as heavy as Nariko…” Yu Yan jokes while helping you two carry the bags.
“Honestly, Nariko is heavier.” You have no chill. It’s true though, so you don’t need any chill!. Unfortunately, you seem to have burned Amelia in the process. “Johnny, you would have broken Nariko’s heart if you said something like that to her face!”
“Don’t worry; she’s closer to a heart attack than a heartbreak.” Yu Yan is absolutely merciless!

On the way, you ended up buying parfait for the girls – Yu Yan wanted something to eat. The cashier was surprised when the group appeared with those giant bears on their backs. Kinda funny.
Even so, there is this inexplicable feeling in the back of your mind that you have seen this cashier somewhere before… Oh well! Who cares about background characters anyway?!
Goodbye 10 bucks! Well spent if you have to judge.

And then you arrive at your apartment. You unload the bears from your back and say hi to Nariko, who seems delighted to see you all. Before you could think about making dinner, a phone starts ringing… Amelia’s.

“It’s Dad.” She takes her phone out. “He isn’t home yet, but he always calls me to check on me.”
You raise an eyebrow, expecting her next move. You never liked him trying to control Amelia like that, and you still don’t.
“…But he won’t get an answer out of me this time…” Amelia hangs up and sighs in relief. “I’m finally out of there for good.”

“You dummy! Now he’ll know something’s up!” You chew Amelia out without the anger from before!
“Whoops…” Amelia fucked up!
“You can still call him and ease his suspicions.” Nariko chips in some sage advice. Did she really have a good idea out of nowhere…? Either way, Amelia is conflicted again. “Uh… Uh… W-what should I do?!”
“Up to you, really.” Yu Yan shrugs then jumps on the couch. Something Nina told her not to do multiple times, but she still refuses to give a single fuck about.
“Mmmm…” Amelia stares intensely at her phone.

Sadly this is all we have for this week’s thread! Thank you for playing!

Thanks everyone for playing again! A whole year running! Thank you all for sticking with me to this point, I hope you guys have enjoyed the ride so far!

I want to thank my proofreader/ghostwriter for translating my posts from broken English to actual English. Without him, this quest would have died in thread 9 or so. Big thanks, really!

I didn’t know how to make this thread special, so I just decided to run like always… So big apologies if you were expecting something crazy for the anniversary.

The winners of the popularity poll got themselves in this thread's op, but I’m planning to do another art piece for them too – So stay tuned for that (For Next thread though)! There is a little hope in me for a vote swing of sorts so I don’t have to draw 2 characters, but we will see.

I’m up to answer questions or draw whatever you guys want (if it’s simple enough)! I don’t know!
