You are Ushi Walker, the half-japanese/half-american wielder of the mighty quirk “Everything is Bigger in Texas", U.A High first year student, third place in the Sports Festival's Obstacle race, and one of the horses of Team Yaoyorozu on the Cavalry Battle.

You did your best, even getting the 10.000.000 points headband for a minute before Deku and his team recovered it, and doing so took some effort. The hunger and tiredness was enough reason to need a break, but things didn't get any easier after the event.

Shoto's scar had always been something of a mystery, especially when you considered which side of his face it was on, but after he told you and Deku how he got it, you really needed a break. You didn't need to dwell on images of parental abuse and quirk marriages.

That's why this noonday break is a godsend, letting you drag yourself and the two boys out of the dark gate you talked about it and into the sunlit festival just outside the stadium, to mingle with festival goers around cheap food and crappy merch.

It all came together when you bumped into your mother and Mt. Lady near the burger and ice cream stands.

The food is not good. You'd have to be crazy to call it good, as you can't even feel the rough of your tongue against the roof of your mouth anymore thanks to how much grease is covering the inside of your mouth now, but it certainly is really dang tasty, filling and carb heavy.

...And you wouldn't have it any other way!

"So, what are you doing here?" You ask the heroine, trying to catch a glimpse of her lanyard without looking at her chest too much.

>"I don't think I need to tell you, but the attack at USJ got U.A. to ramp up the security of this thing." She answers, waving a hand at the festival around as she explains further. "I'm one of the heroes working security here today. Right now I'm taking a break from patrolling though."

>"An unauthorized, second break." A deep male voice ads, making you look behind Mt. Lady for its cigarette smelling source. "I thought you might have gotten sidetracked on something again. You need focus for this kind of job."

Your only excuse for not having seen Death Arms approaching is that finishing a greasy, ice cream cheeseburger without getting melted ice cream and grease running down your mouth and into uncomfortable places takes time, skill and focus.

>"I… Just bumped into family!" Mt. Lady lies, taking a step and coming to stand between you and Momma. It makes her look even shorter. "Had to say hi, I know you'd do the same. And where's Kamui?"

Momma rolls her eyes at the lie, but doesn't call her out, while you just look confused. Shoto just raises an eyebrow at the whole situation, continuing to eat his weird ice cream.

>"I'm not going anywhere without a notebook ever again…" Deku mutters, gripping a napkin and trying to find a pen.

>"Yeah, I would. Kamui is still patrolling alone, kid takes the job seriously." The huge hero replies, before noticing Deku. "The kid from- Midoriya was it? You've come far since that incident, good job."

He then takes his napkin and pulls out a marker out of… you don't actually know, but he signs it.

You doubt Deku is a big fan of either Mt. Lady or Death Arms, but with how much of a hero otaku he is, you are sure he'll appreciate their autographs.

>"Thanks!" Deku replies taking the napkin and looking at it with a smile. "I hope next time something like that happens, I'll be able to take care of it."

>"You are well on your way, but try to use your quirk on the tournament. I still don't have a clue of what you actually do." Death Arms says, turning back and motioning with his hand for someone to follow. "Let's meet back up with Kamui, Mt. Lady."

>What do you do?

>[Finish your burger, and maybe a grab something else, and go back to the Mess Hall to meet back with everyone else. "Seeya!"]
>[Keep talking with Mt. Lady. "Heya, mister, might I… Uh… talk with cousin Yu for a bit longer? Ah've not seen her in years!"]
>[Throw her at the wolves, you might want to take her marketshare soon. "What are you talking about? I met you like five minutes ago!"]

"You should get back to work, dontcha think? See ya later, cuz'!" You tell your not-really-cousin, wiping a hand on your jacket before giving her a pat on the back.

She tenses for an instant at your touch, but then you feel her place a hand between your horns.

>"I'd wish you good luck girl, but you don't need that kind of stuff. Just put some elbow grease into it. You did fine on the previous events, just keep that up and make it big!" She tells you, ruffling your hair for a bit. "It was nice catching up, Kat!"

"'s not like I was planning to lose, but thanks!" You reply, feeling your hair poof back up the moment she lifts her hand.

And after a quick hug from Momma, the heroine walks away, following her partner.

>"What a nice gal." Momma comments after she gets out of view. "I didn't expect her to become a hero… Not that I ever thought she was a bad person! Although she was kind of a brat as a kid... It's just nice to her chase her career, you know. Even if she's stumbling a bit."

"She's on a videogame, Ah reckon she's doin' fine." You say, speaking from your main source of information on Mt. Lady.

>"...Sure. I reckon you already know more about the hero biz than Ah do. " Momma says, shrugging before pointing at the oily stain on your sleeve. "Also, you are going to wash that thing."

"I figured as much." You reply, shrugging in turn as you finish your burger. Cleaning your own stuff doesn't really bother you. "Say, do you have the time?"

>"Let me see..." It only takes her a second to dig out her phone from her pocket, but you are already checking the air for the best smelling route back. "Huh, 12:40… Where does time go?"

"We gotta go, then." You tell her, looking at your friends. Deku just finished his burger while Shoto is still slowly licking his ice cream, which would have melted in anyone else's hands by now. The fact that his tongue isn't tired is kind of amazing too. "Come on guys! Let's meet up with our pals at the mess hall!"

>"No offence, but it's about time we go back." Deku chimes in, quickly turning around and starting his way back to the main school building. "We might be missing important data!.. And I didn't get to thank Mei."

You don't waste time and turn to join him, but a hand on your shoulder stops and pulls you back.

>"Hey, hun, at least give your momma a hug before leaving." Your mother says, hugging you into her chest. It's a bit embarrassing, but you don't hesitate to return the gesture, wrapping your arms around her waist for a second.

"Hey… Thanks for coming to see me." You tell her as you let go. "It's nice seeing you up there."

She smiles and gives you a thumbs up, lifting her ears as she does so.

>"Always, hun. Now get back in there and bring home the gold!" She says, before sparing a glance at Shoto. "...Or silver. That'd be dandy too."

"...Will do." You reply, lifting an eyebrow at that last sentence.
>>
With that, you leave after Deku, staying a few dozen feet behind him and Shoto thanks to your constant stops at the stands. In the end, you end up reaching the mess hall with three sticks of three dangos each held between the knuckles of one of your hands, and the same in the other, but with taiyaki.

Anyone else would have needed a free hand to eat them, but your long and rough tongue has enough reach and grip to easily pull the ball-shaped treats from their sticks and into your mouth without having the sticks poke your eyes out.

Looking around, there's nothing unexpected in sight. Most of the losers seem down on the dumps, while the remaining ones still in a good mood seemingly try to cheer them up.

Well, almost…

On your regular table, you can see what looks to be the opposite.
The one winner at the table, Pony, is slouching over the table, covering her face with her hair (or is it mane?) and her arms, while Monoma and Itsuka, at her sides, seem to talking to her, along with a short, fat boy whose name you don't know, who paces around the table, seemingly saying something at well.

>"There you are!" You suddenly hear Kyoka's voice, followed by the sound of her shoes quickly approaching. "Momo needs you at our table, now."

>"Sounds important." Deku says, even though you can see him scan around the room as he speaks. "Is it class rep. business?"

>"Girl stuff, we just need Ushi." She says, following it up with something under her breath that takes you a few seconds to understand. "She'll need extra cloth to make sure those things don't just burst out. What even are those udders? H cup?"

...Ouch.

Pony… She doesn't look good.

It wouldn't be right to leave your friend hanging there if there's any chance you can help.

...That doesn't mean that you don't want to go help Momo with whatever she needs you for, but you are fairly sure it's less urgent than your fellow american likely crying behind her hair.

That, and… you don't really want to stick close to Jiro for now.

She's still your friend and that's not gonna change anytime soon, but she was there when you opened your heart and told them how much that kind of stuff hurts.

You could do with a couple minutes to let that little backstab wound close.

"...I heard that, Jiro." You start, talking under your breath too, but knowing full well she'd hear it, quickly continuing after hearing her gasp. "I'll be there in a cinch! Ah need to check up on somethin' real fast first."

>"...Wait, I didn't mean!-" She says, before noticing she was starting a scene and cutting herself off before too many students looked your way.

And with that, you get away from her and the boys, striding out on your own towards your usual table, taking a certain amount of care to not accidentally stab anyone with your snack-claws on the way.

>...not right. How can we stand in front of all of Japan and the world if we don't even remember how we got that far?!" You hear the short, gray haired kid you don't recognize say as he paces around the table. "It's nonsense, we just can't!"

>"Shoda, please, shut up already." Monoma rebukes him, placing a hand on Pony's right shoulder, who leans against it. "Waste your chances however you want, but don't drag Pony down with you. She's not only the only one of our class left, It's also a once a year opportunity for her to shine!"

Seeing how you arrived in the middle of an argument, you try to piece together what's the back and forth all about, even if feel a bit silly eating as you do so.

>"How is she going to go prance on stage like this? It's barely any better than cheating!" The so called Shoda says. "We didn't earn the right to stand next to the others! What's even the point of advancing in a contest of skill without showcasing any?"

>"What do you think about doing exactly that?" Monoma fires back, pointing directly at the other boy. "You got a last chance to prove yourselves, show what you can do and redeem yourselves of whatever you did or did not on the cavalry battle!"

>"Guys!" Itsuka calls them out from Pony's left side. "Again, shut up! Stop trying to force her to your standards! You aren't going anywhere with this, you are even using the same arguments again!"

Since they are seemingly going in circles, you decide to just ask, approaching the only cool head at the table.

"Howdy sugar, mind tellin' me what's the howlin' all about?" You ask Itsuka, but keeping your eyes on Pony. "What's up with Pony?"

The redhead takes an instant to notice you, but quickly flashes you a tired smile.

>"Hey Ushi… Congratulations on moving on to the tournament." She says, sighing. "Pony isn't taking it too well. She asked for advice and… Well, the idiots only made it worse."

>"I'm just trying to look out for her, I'm sure you can relate." Monoma says as a small grin forms on his face. "I bet she would appreciate her fellow american and old friend's input, why don't you try talking to her?"

>"Hey, don't drag her into this!" The other boy says. "You know that as a foreigner she'll back you up."

>"Really?" Monoma says keeping the small grin, yet you can almost smell the vitriol dripping from his tongue as he passes a hand through Pony's hair. "Don't you think that perhaps… Just maybe, the one person with the closest point of view to her own might help her clear her mind?"

You don't know if he did it on purpose or it was just a coincidence, but doing so lets the clear smell of tears hit you.

"<Dang right> I'm gonna talk to her! I would have even if you told me not to! Just stay quiet for five <goshdarn> seconds!" You exclaim, moving to Pony's left side, with Itsuka giving you her chair. "<Howdy sugarcube. I reckon you've got a mess squeaking around but, mind tellin' me your version?>"

A second after you finish talking, she stirs and turns towards you, lifting the veil of hair off her face.

If you hadn't known beforehand, it would only take a glance at her red, puffy eyes to know she had been crying not long ago.

>"<...Hi.>" She greets you, staying quiet for half a minute before speaking again. "<I don't know what to do… It was a dream of mine, coming here. But there's not much of a point in chasing your japanese heritage if you are going to throw your honor away at the first chance, isn't there?>"

"<What happened?> You ask her.

>"<I don't know what happened… There's a in my memories I can't focus on, and after that it felt like a nightmare, I couldn't move… No, it wasn't me who was moving.>" She tells you, shivering for a moment."<I just recall walking around the last minutes and looking up to a winning score. It'd be a disgrace to move on for that...>"

"<But it ain't that black and white, innit?>" You comment, prompting her to continue.

>"<How do you know?>" She asks you, tilting her head to the side.

"<if it was, you'd already know what to do.>" You point out. "<So what's the other side of the coin?>"

Pony stands a chance of beating Bakugo. Her quirk is a canon of some sort, and she’s sturdy.

But that is true also she own us a battle. I just realize something too Deku didn't used his quirk so far and wasn't noticed yet but even because of that he isn't giving up. So she shouldn't be let down for not showing her stuff.

For Pony, getting in is all about luck, but luck is an important factor anyway. Many people (Midoriya) wouldn't even have gotten into the school without luck on their side, so giving up now seems like the wrong choice.

>>2772273
RIP and I am so sorry pony
>>
>>2772006
I think it's just sort of how the whole mechanic inevitably pans out. It incentivizes dice being put towards "rocky" relationships that have higher stakes and generate more rolls, rather than stable, low risk relationships. Shoto has had a lot of rolls associated with him, while Pony and momma don't make us roll as often.
>>
>>2772273
Well, only the 3, 1, 10 is actually kinda of crap. The other two are pretty good.
>>
>>2772284
If you're trying to game the system, yeah.
This is a genuine problem with the Relationship Die system, is that it forces people to step back and NOT just assign them based on where the buffs will be most useful.
And no, the discussion on putting two dice in Shoto was pretty blatantly shippers being autistic retards and trying to secure an easy lead.
There is no reason he should have more dice than Family, considering that family is fucking huge to Ushi (see her spergfit during the date with Denki or her general initial inability to grasp Shoto's issues with his dad).

Pony seems to have gone through the books, reading and watching japanese media for a long time, coming to japan as an otaku of japanese ascendancy. Looking at it that way, her current struggle is not surprising, seeing her honor in jeopardy.

...Then again, that's her point of view, and it doesn't have to align with yours.

It's probably because of how little you are into japanese culture despite Momma's best efforts to teach you about it, but beyond learning japanese from her, you never really dove into into it, so you still look at the intricacies of the culture as an outsider.

Thus, to you, it feels like the whole thing has a really simple solution. She said it herself, she needs a good fight to make it all worth it.

"<What's the point in quitting? You'd be losing out on an event you would have gotten into anyway... and it'd be a shame for nobody to see what you can do!>" You tell her, putting your hand on her shoulder and giving her a shake. "<Heck>, Ah wanna see it first hand! You can't drop out! You owe me a fight, remember?"

>"Y-yeah…" She says with the corners of her mouth slowly pulling up back into a smile. "I… I did my training… I did it for a reason!"

"<That's the winning spirit! Bucking unbroken till the end!>" You cheer her on, smiling in kind.

That seems to do the trick. If not for the red around her eyes and the slightly shiny tear trails down her cheeks, you wouldn't be a able to tell she was crying just by looking at her.

And with her smile, the area around the table seems to get calmer, as Monoma's snide smile suddenly seems more genuine, Kendo lets out a sigh of relief and Shoda's shoulders slump before he walks away.

>"<Like, it's not the way I wanted to get in, but I'll have to make do!>" She Pony continues sounding more upbeat by the second.

"<Might have been luck, but there's no good reason to throw away the chance.>" You point out, raising a finger.

>"<...Luck?>" She asks, tilting her head to the side and almost locking horns with you.

"<Well if you don't recall doin' anythin', Ah'd reckon you lucked out with a good team, right?>" You explain yourself, pointing first at her and then away a few times. <"Heck, your's scored better than mine!">

>"<There was no good luck.>" She replies, blinking hard for a second and continuing in the same cheery tone. "<You threw me away, the purple haired boy asked me if I had a group and next thing I know, I spend minutes not able to even control my breathing. That's, like, the opposite of good luck.>"

"<I didn't mean->" You try to defend yourself, but she interrupts you.

>"<Hey, don't worry.>" She tells you, placing her hand of over the one you placed on her shoulder. "<It's not your fault.>"
>>
Then she picks up your hand, moves it off her shoulder and lets it fall over thin air.

>"<I obviously misinterpreted something.>" She finishes, closing her eyes and smiling that doesn't quite reach her eyes and standing up. "<I gotta go refresh myself before the break is over, but I hope we get to fight in the tournament. Good luck!>"

And with that she walks away, towards the restrooms with her trademark clip-clop, leaving you, Kendo and Monoma looking rather perplexed.

>"It's nice to see her out of that funk." Itsuka says, sighing and plopping down on the briefly unused chair. "Thanks for coming to check on us, especially with so little time left before heading back to the stadium."

"Yeah…" You reply, unsure. You know Pony looked happy, but you know all too well that she was hiding her real emotions. You have some practice yourself.

>"Thanks for descending back to us to bail us out." Monoma says, but it doesn't feel like a backhanded compliment, but like a genuine emotion expressed with some snark. "But she didn't look quite right… Yet I can't exactly follow her to the girl's restroom."

"<Uh-huh.>" You let out, acknowledging his words, but doing little more than that.

However, Itsuka's words ring true. There's little time left, and you can't just sit there doing nothing. There's no further reason to stay sitting there especially after finishing your snacks.

Not only that, but you told Jiro that you'd go later, not that you wouldn't go.

So, after waving farewell to some of your non-american Class-B friends, you look around for The Gals, finding them without much effort.

Well, not them.

Only Momo remains at the table, holding a pair of large brown paper bags and looking around in every direction until she notices you getting close, closing the distance herself and thrusting one of bags into your arms.

>"There you are, we need to change now!" She says, sounding mildly irritated and quickly turning around, motioning you to follow her. "We got a last minute notice of a class based cheering battle, don't ask for more, there are no more details."

You walk behind her confused, and peeking at the bag marked "牛" for "Cow"... Your name.

Peeking inside it, you can't really see what's inside, other than white, orange and green clothes messily shoved in, along with a pair of pom-poms.

It doesn't take a genius to see it's a cheerleader, even if you can't make out the details.

So is this enough IC info to counter shinso's quirk, maybe even reveal it to whoever is fighting him first? We know it fucks with people in some way and that it can be stopped by pain so couldn't Ushi (or whoever we tell) just give themselves a papercut before a fight with him?

It's odd and sudden, but then again, it's U.A. They've always wanted to keep you on your toes, and having cheerleading at an event of this magnitude is surprisingly unsurprising.
You didn't see it coming in japan, but it's just what you'd expect to see back home.

All in all, something fun to clear your mind before the tournament starts.

With that in mind, you fall in line and walk with her towards the changing room.

"Alright! Gotta tell you though, never been good at all the twirling and pirouette thingies." You admit, swiping your hand just over your horns. "Too tall and top heavy."

>"I can relate." She replies, reminding you of the facts that she's not only somewhat close in bust size to your own, but she's taller as well. She then continues, grimacing for a second before sighing and donning her usual small confident smile. "I'm not exactly excited about this myself, but we can't let down our classmates."

"Well, I've never actually tried, but Ah reckon it could be fun!" You tell her, opening the changing room's door for both of you. "Howdy!"

Opening the door lets you see the rest of the gals, who reply with varying levels of enthusiasm, or in Jiro's case, a lack thereof.

Mina and Toru seem to be practicing some pom-pom movements in tandem, with Uraraka observing them and following right behind, seemingly trying to learn the impropentu choreography while Tsuyu… she's just doing the minimum you'd have to do to be cheering. It sort of reminds you of an old cartoon you managed to see once before the tape combusted, with the huge blonde guy who danced moving his arms straight out and moving them up and down.

And they all seem to be sporting what look like tailor made versions of the same outfit, from their chokers to their pink tennis shoes. Spilling your bag over a nearby bench confirms that it's the same that Momo handed to you.

>"Come on, we are almost out of time " Momo says as she quickly starts changing into her own outfit, without taking her eyes away from the clock on the wall.

"Don't get too riled up!" You tell her, striking a pose yourself and sticking out your tongue a bit. "It'll be fine!"

>"You look awfully happy with this." She comments as you pick up your new outfit.

"It's an American thing!" You reply, thinking of how there was always cheerleaders in the big sports events. "...I may or may not have wanted to try this for a few years."

>"Hey." Jiro says, walking towards you as you start changing, taking off your jacket and replacing it with the cheerleader outfit top.

It's a bit too snug and pushes up your chest a bit more than you'd like, but if your assumption is right and Momo made it without actually measuring you, it's surprisingly close to your measurements, hiding your bra and… not much else.

It still looks a bit shorter than everyone else's, but the fact that it fits without immobilising you, threatening to burst or leave you unable breathe is amazing on it's own right.

"'Sup." You reply with a bit of forced calm, feeling mighty awkward dropping your pants and keeping eye contact at the same time.

Again, the skirt feels just a bit shorter than needed, but fits comfortably at the hip… Which isn't that much of an achievement compared to the top.

>"...You know I didn't mean anything by that, right?" Jiro says, trying to scratch the back of her head with a pom-pom and looking like a blonde Mina for an instant.

>What do you do?

Can you of all people really stay mad at someone tripping on their own tongue?
Especially after what happened like five minutes ago?
You think not.

"Well, yeah! Ah kind of fuck up works often enough myself..." You say, dragging the last silabe. "Works… Words… works… It doesn't even sound similar in japanese, doesn't it?"

Kyoka smirks at that, the first example of a shy smirk you have ever seen. If you had to hazard a guess, it'd be that she doesn't want to risk offending you again.

>"No, they really don't, but I'm gonna assume they do in english and you are just trying to make me feel better." She says, laughing nervously and looking around.

"Well… you ain't wrong. Git here sugar!" You tell her, lunging towards her and pulling her into a hug. "Thing is, I get you. I might have just caused someone to hide in the bathroom from me just now. I’d be there instead if I could figure out what to say to make it better…"

It's the first person you can not only wrap your arms around her, but even place your hands on your elbows if you press her a bit tighter against you.

>"Uhm…" She says, seemingly struggling to find her words. "If you said something hurtful… Try proving that's not what what you actually think, that should work. It was my plan b."

"...What was plan A?" You ask her, letting her go and tilting your head to the side.

>"Explaining myself and apologizing." She answers, checking that no one was looking in your direction before opening her arms and look at you like you were in the middle of a drug deal. "Did it work?"

Of course, you respond in kind and briefly hug her again.

"Yeah. Just… Try not to do it again, 'kay?." You tell her, releasing her once more.

>"I'm sorry. It's just… kind of a sore spot." She says, pinching the shoulders of her top and lifting it an inch before letting it fall, just rustling the fabric a bit.

Curious, you do the same, causing your breasts to raise with the top and then fall along with it, keeping the fabric taut as they bounced a bit, contained by your bra and the top itself.

>"Yeah… It's not your fault, but it's already hard to look at other girls… developments." She sort-of-explains. "Even more than Momo making her own top, getting told to fetch you to get a especially large top felt like rubbing it in… Again sorry."

"It's alri-" You try to wave her redundant apology off before Momo interrupts you.

>"Alright everyone, break is over!" She announces as soon as the minute hand on the clock hits 12. "Let's get back to the stadium and get this done and over with!"

The best thing about waiting until the last second is how the way back to the stadium was mostly empty, and the few boys that saw you carrying your pom-poms hadn't picked up their phones yet, and so were unable to get any pics before you took cover in one of the stadium's inner gates.

>"BEFORE WE START THE LAST EVENT, LET'S BREAK SOME GOOD NEWS TO THOSE THAT DIDN'T MAKE IT THROUGH THE PRELIMINARIES!!!" Present Mic blares over the speaker system. "CHEER UP! IN THE END, THIS IS A HIGHSCHOOL SPORTS FESTIVAL! THERE'S STILL THE RECREATIONAL EVENTS LEFT! JUST LOOK AT THE CHEERLEADERS!-"

>"That must be our cue!" Momo says as she strolls in, followed by all of you, ending in a simple group pose near the center of the stadium.

>"HUH? ...WHAT!?" Present Mic says as you get out of the shadows of the gate and into clear view of the crowd and cameras. "ISN'T IT TOO EARLY FOR FAN SERVICE?"

>"...What even?..." Mr. Aizawa's voice says, confirming the suspicion you discarded earlier.

And it seems like Momo also connected the dots, turning not only in Mineta's direction but also Denki's as he seems to be enjoying the view next to the tiny known-pervert.

>"MINETA!!! KAMINARI!! YOU TRICKED US, DIDN'T YOU!!!!" She yells at them from afar, menacingly shaking a yellow pom-pom over her head. "YOU SAID MR. AIZAWA SAID IT!... and I believed you..."

"Well, I don't think you actually listened to Grapes, but Denki has a way with words." You say, giving her a pom-pom back pat. "I would probably have believed him too."

>"They are just a pair of stupid... perverts." Kyoka says, angrily smashing one of her pom-poms against the ground.

>"Hey! We got the outfits and the time!" Toru says, trying to see the bright side of life and flailing her pom-poms erratically. "Let's do it for fun! It'll be good for the stress! C'mon! we already did most of the work! C'mon!"

>"At least Toru likes it." Tsuyu comments.

Then, after the disruption your entrance caused, you hear Present Mic cough and resume his commenting duties.

>"...ALRIGHT EVERYONE, NOW WE'LL DO OUR BEST ON THE RECREATIONAL EVENTS! AND" He reiterates, then returns to a more important topic, although not all that shocking. "AND AFTER THAT, THE FINAL EVENT! A 16 INDIVIDUALS TOURNAMENT!!! EACH OF YOU AGAINST THE OTHERS, IN A SERIES OF ONE-ON-ONE FIGHTS!!!"

Since every year there was some kind of 1vs1 event at the end, the only question was if there would be any odd special rules, but it doesn't seem to be the case, as the giant screen lights up showing an empty bracket, without any text.

The crown over the first place is cool though.

"Neat! Ah was starting to fear there wouldn't be no tusslin' this year!" You exclaim, taking the chance to do a little dance and shake your pom-poms to accentuate every silabe, stopping nigh-instantly when you see Midnight take the center stage.

>"Now, the pairings will be determined by drawing lots now, but the tournament will begin after the recreational events!" Midnight explains, happily shaking a box. "The 16 of you who get to participate in the tournament can opt out of the recreational events though. Rest if you need it! There's no shame in wanting to save your energy!"

After a round of nods, followed by the grumbling of those who were unable to skip the recreational events, but didn't want to play.

>"Okay then! Let's get the pairings sorted!" Midnight says, shaking her box like a christmas present on christmas eve.

>"Miss!" The voice you came to recognize as Shoda's says, getting everyone around him to disperse and leave hims some space. "I don't want to participate in the tournament… I feel like I did nothing to earn my place here, to deserve to share a stage with everyone else. Just allowing me to continue would run against the spirit of the Sports Festival!"

>"SAY, ERASERHEAD, MY PAL…" Present Mic says, sounding doubtful. "HAVE WE EVER HAD SOMEONE PROTESTING TO NOT PARTICIPATE?"

>"As far as I know, this is a first." Your homeroom teacher answers. "Or would be. The final decision is Midnight's alone."

It's mesmerizing seeing her work with her flogger. She just held it pointing down and sneered, and the idea that she might use it got the entire stadium to be relatively silent.

>"Pure, innocent words…" She slowly says.

That's the kind of commanding presence that you can't help but admire.

But a couple of seconds later, she just cracks it to the side.

>"I LIKE IT!!" She yells, with a wide grin on her face. "I accept your resignation, kid!"

You aren't the judge, that's her job right now, but it feels odd to see "Whim" as the reason for such a decision.

>"But who will fill his spot now? There's no fifth place. " Midnight muses out loud. "Who of you deserves a second chance!?"

>"ME! ME! I DO!!" And similar yells start ringing around you, as practically everyone started jumping, raising their hands and yelling to get Midnights attention.

It made it all the more remarkable when a different yell started ringing.

>"HIM! HE DOES!" Yelled Itsuka, pointing at a very surprised Tetsu.

>"HE DESERVES IT!" Honenuki says, quickly getting the rest of his class to cheer for him.

It's particularly weird seeing that in front of you, while listening to your own classmates bicker behind you.

>"So!" Midnight says, pointing her flogger at the abashed silver haired boy. "It seems you got some people backing you up boy! I hope you are up to the test!"

>"I won't let you down guys!" Tetsu yells back, saluting with tears running down his cheeks. "NEVER!"

You can't help but feel vapid, wondering if he could rust while his quirk was active for some reason.

>"Well, with that settled, let's see how the pairings!" Midnight announces, shaking the box a bit more and letting it fall, pointing instead a remote at the screen, causing names to appear in the brackets.

Instantly, you look to your side where Momo stands.

>"I can't say I expected that." Momo comments. "But it should be interesting, don't you think?"

"'yuup. Mighty interesting." You nod.

If bakugo can beat deku without any debilitating damage he'll reach the final but that isn't going to happen. Deku was going full crazy right now in cannon and if anything he will be worse due to winning both previous evens and facing bakugo. Both of them are going to be mulch by the end and probably get outlasted by kirishima in the next round. Assuming he doesn't get beaten by shinso tokoyami beats uraraka in round 2 then kirishima in round 3. The final is Ushi or Todoroki vs Tokyami.

You may have been all duped into going with tiny tops and short skirts into the middle of a full stadium surrounded by cameras, and you will have to fight one of your friends really soon, with the screen announcing that your fight with Momo is the one that will open the event. That doesn't mean you'll let it get to your head.

Overthinking and getting lost within your own head would only make you more nervous and anxious before the tournament even starts.

>"What are you doing?" Momo asks you, as you start your short warm up routine you usually do at the Tigers' Den.

"Hey, not sure if you've noticed sugar, but there's a <heck of a lot> of running and jumping in cheerleading." You answer, pointing with a thumb at your fellow americans in the same garb at the other side of the stadium, happily shouting and.

You also discretely boop the tip of your nose, just checking if its still kinda pointy instead of dangerously sharp as the professional cheerleaders.

>"You can't be serious." Kyoka says, carefully sitting down without showing anything.

>"You can't say that doesn't look fun!" Mina says, pointing at the professionals with her pom-poms and swinging her hips as she does, as if dancing.

>"C'mon! Let's get the whole country to look at us!" And just like in the changing room, Toru joins Mina in her dance.

After watching them for a second, you join as well, adding your own two cents to the budding routine, getting Mina and Toru to go along with your version.

"<OH YEAH! LET'S GO!>" You cheer, unable to come up with a rhyme and just exaggerating your drawl to make it sound charming.

Step forwards, point forwards and hip swing, then you raise one of your knees up and cover the part of your skirt that might flap and reveal too much with one if your pom-poms, raising the other one over your head in what you think is a good pose.

And if the camera flashes that follow are any indication, you are right.

>"Hey, look at that!" Uraraka suddenly says, pointing at the professionals.

It takes you a second, to understand, but then you recognize what they are doing.

The same small routine the three of you just did, followed by four of them kneeling with their hands outstretched in front of them and two others stepping back, letting their feet be grabbed by their kneeling companions and then being launched as they suddenly stand up.

The two cheerleaders fly only a few yards into the air, but they spend their short airborne moments by grabbing one of their legs behind their backs and striking a pose, holding it even as they fell, being caught by their companions.

Then they returned to a simple line formation, pointing at you and the gals with their pom-poms.

You think of it as a challenge for an instant, but you quickly do away with that idea, looking at their friendly expression.
>>
It's not a "Take that, scrubs!" sneer, but an encouraging "C'mon, you can do better" smile.

A look around lets you see that Mina and Toru haven't even thought about stopping, while Uraraka looks ready to join.

That only leaves one straggler to deal with, as you are sure both Momo and Tsuyu will participate and likely warm up to the fun.

>"Uh? What?" Kyoka says as you grab her by the shoulders.

"Wipe that pout off your face sugar! We need a flyer." You tell her with a smirk as you pull her up to her feet. "Someone slim and agile that's not used to lean back at all times to not land on her face… Besides, Ah know it'll help you cheer up."

>"...Fine." She concedes, rolling her eyes and smirking. "Kinda convenient how you need someone …"aerodynamic" for this."

"Well, I know Ah can't." You say, smirking back. "When's the last time you saw a cow fly outside a tornado?"

You share a brief and nervous, but sincere, laugh over the terrible pun before gathering everyone and getting ready.

Then, all of you copy their copy of your routine, adding your own spin in the end.

Then they did the same and the cycle started anew.

As it goes on, with the exercise causing of beads of sweat to start running down your abdomen, you have to admit it's a weird sensation, having so much fun doing something without being good at it.

You aren't terrible, and you don't quite fail at any of the rather simple stunts they show you, but without any serious practice, it's clear you aren't on their level, even with Uraraka using her quirk to cheat a bit.

And it's fine! You are having fun, and you can tell the gals do as well, all of them.
The public seems to find your somewhat clumsy attempts charming, and you will always remember how people reacted when you threw Mina into the air by yourself, letting her do an impressive pirouette in the air.

It felt nice, attracting gazes for your muscles for once and not the fat on your chest.

By the time the recreational events are finished, your neck and abdomen are glistening with sweat, but you are far from tired, retiring to the changing room surrounded by laughter and high fives as you joke about your favorite moments.

After all your training, throwing people into the air and dancing is little more than a warm-up, leaving you feeling like you have lightning running on your veins, ready for anything.

>"AFTER ALL THESE EVENTS IT'S FINALLY TIME FOR THE ONE VS. ONE BATTLES, THE ONE WE ALL REALLY WANTED TO SEE!" Present Mic announces as you wait on your gate, back in your P.E. uniform and trying to see inside the dark gate at the opposite side of the stadium, where you know Momo is waiting.

All in all, you can say that it was time well spent, just messing around and having fun with your friends.

If that doesn't drive you to do your best, nothing would.

>"HERE, THE ONLY PERSON YOU CAN COUNT ON IS YOURSELF!!! NOT SOMETHING NEW, ISN'T IT? SUCH SITUATIONS ALSO HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!!!" The Voice Hero continues, probably improvising something to give Cementoss great new instant ring a few seconds to solidify. "YOUR WILL, ABILITY, RESISTANCE AND PRIDE… THIS IS THE MOMENT TO PUT ALL THESE IN PLAY AND REACH FOR A GLORIOUS VICTORY!!!"

You take a deep breath and smile, confidently waiting for your cue.

Is not that you think there's no chance that Momo could beat you, but you don't think you would resent her if she did so.

>"FIRST FIGHT!!!" Came your cue, as Present Mic introduces you.

>"SHE HAILS FROM THE HOME OF HEROES AND IS PROUD OF IT! FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEROICS, WALKER USHI!!!" He says, causing a second but significantly smaller round of bewildered comments about your name.

Despite the shouts of doubt and the ones that says it fits, you strut to your side of the ring flashing a double peace sign.

Right now, you feel bulletproof. Even the giant, flaming torches on the corners of the ring barely register.

>"A RECOMMENDED STUDENT WHO HAS PROVED HERSELF AT EVERY TURN, ALSO FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEROICS, YAOYOROZU MOMO!!!" Present Mic introduces your class president, who comes to stand opposite of you, about four yards away.

He then announces the rules. It's really simple, if you exit the ring, are immobilized, or say "I give up" you are out. And since Recovery Girl is waiting just outside the stadium, he encourages you to go all out. Everything short of willingly risking your opponent's life is allowed. "Heroes should only be merciless when attacking villains." Were his words.

>"...Why is your jacket unzipped?" Momo asks you.

"Why is yours?" You deflect the question.

>"...My quirk." She slowly answers.

>"WITHOUT FURTHER ADO, LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!!" Present Mic says, causing the crowd to start cheering. Not for any of you, but just in general. "READY?!!!"

"May the best girl win." You say, nodding with respect thanks to your lack of hat to tip.

>"I won't hold back." She says, giving a small bow. "And I expect nothing less from you."

Then comes the final word.

>"BEGIN!!!"

As the battle begins, you realize something.

Unlike the villains before, whose movements telegraphed most of their moves, you can't read Momo. In fact, it's clear that she's the one reading you.

For an instant after the battle started, you only stared at each other.

And just like you expected, you can't read her.

You can, however, tell that she's reading you. The instant your fingers do so much as twitch, her eyes dart to follow. And that's valuable info.

If she can put together what you are trying to do quickly enough, and you are sure she can, then she should be able to counter or evade your every move…

Unless you are simply faster.

There's no much use in noticing a car a 100 yards away if it's coming your way at a speed of over 300 miles per hour. You may see it coming, but it'll run you over before you can react.

The moment of mutual analysis finished quickly, however, as you decide start the battle with the tried and true method of causing blunt force trauma.

You have to get in close and personal to use your quirk or enter grapple, and there are few better ways to do that than a flying tackle.

The instant you so much as start leaning forwards, Momo is already starting to sidestep you, forcing you to fix your aim.

Instead of slowing down and aiming again, you just kick to the side at the end of your short charge, jumping and throwing yourself right shoulder first at her.

A spear is meant to hit in the abdomen and force the air out of your foe's lungs, knock 'em down and let you initiate a grapple, but the quick adjustment you had to do to actually connect meant that you hit her some inches too low, driving your shoulder into her right thigh and knocking her down.

Feeling her torso take a fraction of a second longer than the leg you impact to crash into the concrete and her pained moan when her back finally slams against the ring floor makes you feel a tad uncomfortable, but knowing that Recovery Girl is ready to patch both of you up makes you feel a tad better.

"Gotcha!" You say, rolling over from her side and attempting a mount, before feeling something brush your left wrist.

Glancing at your arm, you manage to spot a loop of rope hanging around your wrist, doing a little loop around your thumb and going around your back, before appearing again under your right armpit for a final loop around your right shoulder.

Then you see the other end, held in Momo's hands.

Before you can do anything about it, she pulls on it with both of her arms and the rope fastens, painfully pulling your arm behind your back and straining your shoulder until your whole left arm feels numb and your right one starts feeling cold, then the rope pops off, leaving a knot on your shoulder and a small length of rope on Momo's hands.

You can still feel your fingers react, but that doesn't help you much, having your hand tied back first to your shoulder.

>"NOT THE FLASHIEST START, BUT YOU CAN FEEL THE ENERGY!" Present Mic comments. "BOTH OF THEM ARE FROM YOUR CLASS, SO WHY DON'T YOU TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE MATCH, PAL!!!?"

>"Since neither of their quirks does any direct damage, it was bound to turn into a brawl." Your homeroom teacher summarizes. "Walker has the advantage at melee range, but Yaoyorozu's flexibility will likely be the deciding factor."

"...When? How?" You ask as you raise to your knees, trying to pull your arm free to no effect.

>"I can't let you touch me. -GAH!" She starts, letting go of the small piece of rope in her hand and trying to raise to her feet, sitting back down with gritted teeth when her quivering legs refused to support her weight. "When I saw you were about to charge, using your momentum to tie you up in a trick rope seemed like a good option… Ugh.. Maybe I should have just focused on avoiding that..."

...Crafty.

Oddly enough, even though it wasn't that much of a first bout, a good part of the crowd seems to be cheering at the spectacle.

At this point, Momo's probably most expecting a rush for the shrink-grab as that's our "deadliest" move and capitalizes heavily on the damage to her legs. She's seen Austin Tossin' before, but it's probably the part of EiBiT that she's observed the least so it could still catch her off guard.

We're close enough already. Just grow and use the speed of our expansion to throw her out of the arena

There’s nothing quite like reliable (2).

No need to waste time growing the ropes off or shrinking out of them.

How are we supposed to Austin tossin? That move involves us placing our other arm on our throwing arm, but one of our arms is tied behind our back right now.

Also, hopefully this doesn’t end with too many cattle wrangling comments.

Mr. Aizawa is right.
With the power and flexibility of her Creation, her advanced training and sharp mind, knocking Momo down doesn't mean much.

She already left you pretty much at half strength with a length of rope, a knot and a magic trick.

You have a clear advantage right now, but without any guarantee that you can keep it, prolonging this to show off your wrestling prowess would be foolish.

But she also said that she was pretty much expecting you to grab and shrink her, so that would be dumb as well.

And once more, you are forced to act blind, not able to read what she might do next.

"I've not done this one in months…" You say, quickly trying to reach behind your back.

>"Gotcha!" She exclaims with a soft, satisfied smile, producing what looks like a hook attached to a rope out of her forearm and quickly throwing it over your shoulder.

You don't need a degree in rocket science to figure out what she's about to do, but you can't let it happen. The moment after the hook connects to the harness she threw over you, when you feel the rope drag over your still free arm, you manage to close your bound hand over your free one.

"Are you sure 'bout that?" You reply with a cheeky grin, focusing on transferring mass to your free arm but only up to the shoulder, causing instant pain in your joint.

The moment you start the Austin Tossin' is like starting a timer, prolong it for more than a couple of seconds and even your wooden skeleton would shatter up as your muscles tear themselves apart. And that's if your heart doesn't give up first.

Such is the strain of growing a single arm until you could high-five Mt. Lady's giant form or comfortably grab Momo in the palm of your hand.

Thus, the moment you enlarge your arm, you waste no time before swinging it at full speed.

"<AUSTIN TOSSIN'!!!>" You yell as you swing your massive arm at Momo, hand wide open.

Even though she sees it coming, the sheer speed of your swing combined with the damage to her legs you managed to impart earlier mean that she can't get out of the way, and she knows it.

Instead, for a fraction of a second before your hand touches her, you notice rolls of bubble wrap sprout out of every inch of exposed skin you can see on her.

Then you close your hand around her, without slowing your swing, and throw her with all the strength your well developed and enlarged arm can muster.

An instant later you knew you had won, as she flew back first out of the ring's boundaries.

Then she kept going, until she hit the wall of the stadium with a loud POP!, that despite drowning every other sound in the stadium, can't hide the sound of breaking bones from you.

>"DAMN! JUST WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!!!" Present Mic yells over the speaker system. "THAT'S SOME SUDDEN POWER SHIFT RIGHT THERE, DIDN'T YOU SAY HER QUIRK COULDN'T DO DAMAGE?!!!"

>"I said direct damage." Mr. Aizawa dully explains. "She didn't use her quirk on Yaoyorozu, but on herself. Then she hurled her out of boundaries."

>"WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!!!" Your english teacher comments.

>"Better than letting a battle drag on." Mr. Aizawa replies.

You quickly fall on your back, letting your bound hand tap your giant arm and returning it to normal, jumping back to your feet to see her slide down, landing more or less seated against the wall.

"Momo?" You ask with concern, which is only barely relieved when you see her cough and promptly comes back thrice as strong, the smell of blood hits your nose like a sledgehammer.

>"Walker Ushi! You advance to the next round!" Midnight announces, walking up to you swifly undoing the knot on your back before cracking her flogger overhead. "Don't worry about her, kid. Recovery Girl will take care of her."

The crowd stays silent for a second as the stretcher robots roll in, but then erupts in cheers and camera flashes. Cheers meant for you.

But you don't feel all that cheer-y.

>>2780344

So?
>>
>"I won't hold back." She says, giving a small bow. "And I expect nothing less from you."

She wanted us not to hold back, we just gave her what she wanted.
>>
We just did to Momo what Shoto did with Sero...good job guys.

>>2780369

Exactly!

>>2780373
Shoto KOed Sero before he could do a thing. Ushi and Momo had one full exchange before Ushi fucked Momo up.
>>
>>2780275
She told us not to take easy on her and we didn't. We are a good friend.
>>
Momo is just far too reactive. She's a smart girl, analyzing is her specialty. But given her versatility she would be much better off putting on the pressure and forcing her opponents to react how she predicts than to react to whatever they throw at her.
>>
>>2780393
Yeah, exactly. The second she was dancing to the beat of our drum she lost.
>>

doesn't mean we can't show concern.
>>
>>2780519

>>
>>2780393
We should totally get her enrolled in wrestling classes.

But I want to introduce Japan to the wisdom of Sheiky Baby.
BE YOURSELF, OR GO FUCK YOURSELF!
>>
>>2780333
I figured Momo would want some alone time and not immediately spend time getting pity from the person that squashed her like a bug on national tv. Let any tensions settle for a bit before the apology ya know? Assuming she's conscious.

>>2780344
Sorry but UA is a school of Hard Knocks
>>
>>2781000
Eh, Momo's a smart girl, unlike Bakugo. She should be able to tell we're here because we're worried and guilty, rather than to rub salt in the wound.
>>
>>2781104
Losing always feels bad, but I'm pretty confident that as long as Ushi is supportive and caring (i.e. manages not to put her foot in her mouth) Momo should be fine. Maybe we should refrain from giving any pep-talks though, I don't think Momo will want to hear it.
>>
>>2781124
We do have net 2 RD in Momo, so we should be good in not being a total cock.
>>

The answer is always hugs and homemade lunches. It's the panacea of the soul.
>>
>>2781124
We should maybe train in stopping after we said something and before we taste shoelaces
>>
>>2781179
On the other hand, figuring out how to consistently shove your own foot down your throat is good flexibility training.
>>
>>2781270
It's the wood skeleton. It allows Ushi to be extra flexible.

It's somewhat telling that only now that it stops you notice the fact that a siren wailed at the end of your battle, but it shakes you just enough to let you hear what's going around.

>"WOAH-HAH!!! IT MAY HAVE BEEN BRIEF, BUT YOU CAN'T SAY THIS BATTLE DIDN'T START THE TOURNAMENT OFF THE PROPER WAY!!!" Present Mic comments with a excited laugh. "COME ON EVERYBODY, CLAP YOUR HANDS AND LET THE GIRLS HEAR IT!!!"

It may be nice to get some recognition, but you don't pay much attention to them.

Instead of basking in the glory, you just give the simple and humble bow Spring Tiger taught you before dashing to the edge of the ring and hopping off, going to check on Momo.

You recognize those small robots, carefully placing Momo on their stretcher and removing the ragged and deflated remains of her bubble wrap.

"Is she going to be okay?" You ask them, hovering over your friend's limp form without daring to touch her. You just don't know what could happen if you pulled on the wrong limb. "She's gotta be alright…"

Looking at her from every angle you can, you can see her tracking you with her eyes when you cross her field of view, as the robots made sure to leave her looking to her side. Considering the thin line of blood still trailing from the corner of her mouth, it might be for the best.

>"Well, that depends on what you consider alright." The front robot replies as it starts the trip to the on-site infirmary. "For example, she's definitely conscious and aware, but after the number you did on her, that might be a demerit."

You tilt your head and follow them, staying within Momo's field of view.

>"Preliminary scanning detects unequally sized pupils, anomalous breathing and anomalous body temperature changes." The second robot says, sounding like a bored calculator.

After a couple seconds without further elaboration, you turn towards the front robot again.

"What does that mean?" You ask it, checking Momo's eyes yourself, only to confirm the assessment.

Her wheezing breath is not normal and she does have a pupil more dilated the other, which, since they mentioned it, must be bad.

>"That she likely has some cracked ribs, is starting to turn purple and she's having the headache of a lifetime." The robot tells you. "Telling you anymore would risk inaccuracy, so you will have to stew on your doubts until Recovery Girl herself has checked on her."

"Thanks, I guess." You tell it, before focusing once more on your friend.

You don't know what to say, and even when you do it's usually the wrong thing.
So, instead of letting out a torrent of apologies, you just walk by her side to the infirmary in what you hope comes across as a companionable silence.

At the very least, if she's in as much pain as the robots made you think she is, she takes it like a champ, with gritted teeth and without a whimper.

Soon enough, you find yourself outside the infirmary, peeking through the door as Momo is transferred to a bed and given a quick examination by Recovery Girl.

>"Come in! Don't be shy and come in now, deary!" The Youthful Heroine encourages you as she finishes putting away the small machine she used to look at Momo's ribs.

"I'm sorry." You say as you enter, doing your best to hide behind your hair. "Ah didn't mean to cause no harm-"

>"Don't be silly now, it was a fight!" The school nurse says, pulling an hypodermic needle in its bag and opening it before feeling for a spot between Momo's ribs, rubbing some disinfectant in the area, and inserting it. "Of course you didn't mean it, but if all of you knew what you were doing, you wouldn't need classes!"

>"And we would be purposeless." The front robot adds. "But as long as you keep doing you, we'll have a job."

For an instant, it sounds like hair through a straw, but it quickly stops. Recovery Girl then pulls out the needle and Momo's breathing instantly gets better.

"I chose to do that and use that move." You point out, looking at what you can see of her purple and black back.

>"Yes deary, you did." She replies. "Maybe not the shrewdest decision, but not a wrong one. Not at all!"

"I could have wrestled her! Or... Or picked her up as a giant and gently toss her off the ring!" You point out once more. "It was too much!"

>"Calm down deary." The heroine says, handing you a handful of gummy bears. "It looked ugly, and may have been dangerous if she didn't get medical attention, but she'll walk out of here like new after treatment and a nap."

"But… I know she broke something!" You continue, enlarging a gummy bear to teddy bear size and tearing its ear off with your teeth.

>"And I thank you for not trying to dig in and pull it out yourself, but you she's fine." Recovery Girl reassures you. "It may have been more force than needed, but it ended the match there. If one of you tried to keep fighting in this state we would have a problem."

She then kisses Momo's shoulder and her bruises instantly start fading, but it stops midway through, leaving her with some noticeable black patches on her white skin.

>"I can go on if you want, but I figured you might want to stay conscious and see the rest of the tournament." Recovery Girl explains. "I treated the dangerous parts, so you could go home after the festival and rest, or come back here to finish the treatment."

>"Th-" Momo starts, interrupted by a bout of coughing a spray of blood.

You quickly leap into action, grabbing a small sealed plastic cup of water and poking a hole on the seal with your nails.

"Here." Is all you say as you hand the water to your friend and helping her sit up.

>"...Thanks." She says after downing the whole cup. "And thank you for the treatment, Recovery girl, but I have a class to cheer on."

>"No problem deary, and don't worry about that cough." The heroine says, taking the cup from her. "It's just your body expelling the blood that was left in your throat."

"How do you feel?" You ask her.

>"I… I feel like I've been swimming for a week without sleeping." She says bringing a hand to her face and pinching the bridge of her nose for an instant before looking at you with a tired smile. "...You hadn't done that one in months, you said. For someone who always rolls up her sleeves, you certainly know how to keep an ace in there. Never saw that coming."

"Came up with it at the entrance exam." You explain, holding a hand to your pained shoulder. "Hadn't used it since. It's hell on my joints."

>"Well…" She starts, needing to pause for a deep breath, as she slowly stands up. "...<I'm flattered, almost flattened too.>"

You share a small giggle at the forced pun, but it's good to see her in good spirits.

She needs to prop herself against the wall to not fall forwards, but she seems determined.

>"Would you mind helping me back to our seats before the current match ends?" Momo asks, extending an arm towards you. "You were very thorough in leaving me unable to walk."

I thought we used Houston Hurlin' in the quirk tests on the first day.
>>

We used both
>>
>>2782592
I was making a joke about the name. Houston Hurlin' sounds better than Austin Tossin', imo. Anyway, I'm more noting that Mic says in the post that we haven't used Austin Tossin' since the entrance exam, but as I recall we used it for the first time in the quirk tests.
>>
>>2782607
Nevermind, I just went back and reread. I could have sworn we used it for the baseball throw and I completely forgot we used it to throw rocks in the entrance exam.
>>
just finished reading the archives and this story turned out way beyond my original expectations. One thing I've been almost yelling at though is none of y'all have been giving Momma as much thanks as she deserves. First chance we get I'm voting to tell her so.

Moving to japanwith us,worrying about us every day since we got here, lettin us get home late almost routinely, surprise party to impromptu sleepover, getting us a bike, using what little money she has to get a seat at this event, on top of caring about our well being. If none of you end up giving her a proper thank you, you are incredibly ungrateful.

Other than that, awesome quest Mic!
>>
>>2783178
We need at least one more RD in Momma. Her only having one while other people who shall remain nameless have 2 is fucking ridiculous.

You can't look at her without feeling a twinge of guilt, seeing her frayed ponytail and the scuff marks on her jacket, and that's averting your eyes from the clearly visible bruises on her shoulders and the back of her neck.

A part of you wants to just tell her to take her time and rest, that there's no need to endure those minor injuries with Recovery Girl offering here.

"Sure. Want a giant gummy bear?" You say, sliding an arm under her's and over her shoulder, bearing part of her weight.

But Recovery Girl said she was well enough to leave, and she wants to go see the fight. If anything were to go awry, you still will be by her side.

>"Huh. ...Okay." She answers, sounding somewhat perplexed by the question. "Yes, I would like that, but I didn't expect that..."

You bite into your orange flavored gummy bear's head and hold it with your teeth, picking up a red gummy bear and enlarging it, handing it to your friend. Only then you go back to holding your own gummy with your hand.

"Really? Candy makes everyone feel better, and everyone knows that bigger is better." You tell her., nodding and pulling her away from the wall and to her feet. "Well, that and the fact that there ain't no thing more cathartic than tearin' 'em apart with your own teeth."

She stares at you for a couple of seconds, then looks at the gummy bear she's holding.
Slowly, she bites into its ear and pulls, tearing it off. She chews on it and then looks back at you, nodding.

"Told ya." You tell her, a smug smile on your face.

>"Alright then, dearies." Recovery Girl says, climbing back into her chair. "I'll forwards the details to your parents and we'll be done here. You should get going though, or you'll miss the whole match."

>"Right!" Momo says, nodding and striding forwards, having some clear difficulty to do so. "Let's… Let's get going."

Still, you adjust your grip and pull her closer, forcing most of her weight on your back.
It's okay though, even if you were to lift her, she'd still be far below your weight limit.

"Sorry for going overboard, I didn't-" You tell her as you make your way back, but you don't get to elaborate.

>"Don't be. I have no problem being beaten by overwhelming force." Momo replies. If it wasn't for the gummy, she'd look deadly serious. "I didn't take into account that you could try more than a single trick, and paid for it. If anything, I'm glad you used that move against me. It proves that I was worth the effort."

At that, you just nod. If you had dragged the match on, she would likely have figured something out.

The rest of the way you go in silence, broken only by your footsteps and the sound of gummy being torn into pieces.

Even with her leaning heavily on you, you can't really run back to your designated seats, but you are fairly content with the limpy-powerwalk you manage to achieve, especially since Shoto and Aoyama are still on the ring by the time you get there.

>"What did we miss?" Momo asks as soon as you reach the area, causing most of your classmates to look at the two of you for an instant, but quickly looking back to the match in progress.

>"Aoyama got a hit in through Todoroki's ice and endured an ice blast himself." Deku explains, looking down at the notebook on his hand for an instant. "I'm not sure if it was planned or just a fluke, but it looks like it did some serious damage. Even if it was though, it looks like the same trick won't work again…"

Taking a seat next to Momo and looking down at the ring, you can see what he means.

Shoto's jacket is missing a sleeve, and his arm looks worryingly red. But that doesn't seem to bother him as he stomps towards Aoyama.

And seeing his opponent closing in, Aoyama starts firing a constant beam at him, but it does nothing, as the beam is quickly reflected skywards by an expanding angled iceshard no matter how much he tries to aim beyond it and at Shot, until he bends over, clutching his abdomen.

>"Ouch…" Kirishima lets out, causing you to look at him for an instant. "Back in the Battle Trial, he told me he couldn't fire long bursts without collapsing his stomach."

Just before Shoto can get at arms reach, Aoyama straightens himself, clearly in pain.

>"You got to admit, Aoyama's tougher than he looks." Mina comments.

>"Not exactly a high bar." Daisy ads.

You… kind of agree there. It makes it a tad more impressive though.

But before the blonde can do anything, an ice shard bursts from the frost covering the ring, just under Aoyama, smacking him in the abdomen and causing his belt to start launching small showers of sparks. Then, the boy drops over the ice.

"<Yeehaw!>" You cheer, even though you know he can't hear you from your seat. "You got this, sugar!"

But instead of letting Midnight ask Aoyama if he could move, Shoto just keeps walking, grabbing Aoyama by the collar, and dragging him to the edge of the ring, swinging his limp body over the edge, causing the blonde's legs to get out of boundaries and triggering the siren.

>"AND HERE YOU HAVE IT!" Present Mic announces. "SOME MAY SAY TODOROKI'S VICTORY WAS A FOREGONE CONCLUSION, BUT YOU CAN'T DENY AOYAMA'S EFFORTS! C'MON EVERYBODY, CLAP YOUR HANDS! LET'S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS!"

Even as Present Mic announces his victory and Midnight declares his right to advance to the next round, Shoto just lays Aoyama on his back and continues walking towards the exit gate, not bothering to bask in the cheering.

>"...RUDE. OR MAYBE HE JUST WANT RECOVERY GIRL TO CHECK ON HIS ARM!" Present Mic says over the speaker system. "ANYWAY, PREPARE FOR OUR NEXT MATCH, STUDENTS AND SPECTATORS!"

"...What are you doing?" You mutter. "Why so angry?"

You can see Shoto's barely keeping a lid on his anger, and it makes you wonder how could his mood flip so hard since lunch. Then a possible answer comes from the least likely of places.

>"I know it's not my fucking business, but I saw Endeavor go to and return from Todoroki's gate before his match started." Daisy tells you, twirling an empty can of soda in his hand for some reason.

Then Deku glances in his general direction and Daisy's hand explodes, flattening the can and almost giving the green haired boy a heart attack.

The speed at which Deku managed to catch his notebook in midair and hide his face in it was nothing short of impressive.

No maybe about it, Ushi draws autists like moths to a flame. And Katsuki Bakugo is an epic level autist (and probable closet Chuuni).
On a more serious note, Bakugo respects strength. And Ushi is the first girl his age, hell probably the first woman other than his mom, to be able to step into the metaphorical ring with him and keep up.
We're a challenge. A woman he can't just wow with his Quirk, or cow with his pushy nature.
Poor little Daisy's in love.
>>
>>2786718

>>
>>2786723
Oh being hot is part of it, but we've got to factor in that this is Bakugo.
He was cock of the walk back in his middle school, he probably could have had his pick of pretty girls. But a pretty girl who's able to challenge him, to push his limits? For a hypercompetitive type like Kacchan, the idea of that has got to be naughty extra-hot great.

I think the autists are on to something though. Consider the following:

>tfw you will never go home with Ushi after an evenly matched sparring session and then rest your head on her lap as she strokes your ear and tells you that you're a strong and dependable man
>>

This is fine. Shoto's cheesed off, but we don't need to go chasing after him more than we need to see this. I'd LIKE to go wish Pony luck but she doesn't want to hear that right now.

You don't need to know Shoto as much as you do to notice he's mad. Barely holding it together, even.

But he's not your only friend in the tournament, and he should be able to simmer down on his own.

And even if he doesn't calm down, he still has to come to the participant seats, so there's not much of a point in potentially missing another match to chase him down.

Still, it's nice to know why he's mad. After all he's told you, even if you still can't fully wrap your head around the idea of a family hurting each other, you don't really have to think of what Endeavor could have said, pretty much anything could have set Shoto off, and you wouldn't blame him for it.

So you turn back to the boy who told you that bit of information.

"Thanks, Bakugo!" You thank him. Maybe a bit more bubbly than you'd really like, but you don't think there's anything wrong with being kind to those to that help you, even if they aren't usually that helpful.

>"Whatever, I didn't do it for you. I just said what I saw. " He waves your thanks off, scanning the ring and both gates in use. "Who's fighting now, and why isn't one of them fucking dying yet?"

"Pony and Iida, and the knowledge that this all here's a Sports Festival." You answer, glancing at the stadium jumbotron to confirm the next fighters.

>"Nice fight by the way! The tackle at the start was impressive, and even though it makes sense that you could do that with your quirk, I didn't see it coming!" Denki comments from his seat, pointing at you with his hand.

>"Yeah, nice fight." Daisy says with a nod, adding his two cents. "Grit suits you."

You almost snap your own neck after hearing that, turning to see his face.
...He still just looks frustrated with the delay.

>"...Ropes too." He adds a second later.

Ah, there is the bite.

>"...Anyway. Want to go out for a bite after the tournament's over?" Denki asks, scratching the back of his neck. "I know we've all been busy training these past weeks, but it would be nice to unwind, don't you think?"

>"Good plan." Bakugo compliments him, with the most sarcastic thumbs up you've ever seen. Also the only one you've seen, but still. "If you wait for when the other two guys who actually made it to her level are gone, she might look down."

>AND HERE WE ARE, THIRD BATTLE OF THE TOURNAMENT!!!" Present Mic announces as both Pony and Iida enter the ring.

>"HE'S DONE WELL ON ALL EVENTS SO FAR, THE YOUNGEST OF THE RENOWNED IIDA FAMILY, FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEROICS, IIDA TENYA!!!" Present Mic introduces your classmate.

Iida sports a determined smile, proud, but not overly so. If you had to guess, you'd say he'll try to put up a good show for his brother.

There's a few seconds of confused sounding voices from the crowd, but you aren't sure if it's about her name or just people not getting what Present Mic just said.

>"If anyone didn't understand that, don't worry it was a bad pun." Mr. Aizawa clarifies, seemingly soothing the crowd.

Pony for her part… She looks serious. There's no trace of the simple smile that often adorns her face.

Let's at least give him the courtesy of clarifying that while we hope to keep him as a friend, we don't see him that way, NOT in front of Bakugo.
Then we can start secretly scheming to hook him up with Best Girl.

I don't think Mina fits with him

Let's not exagerate here.
>>
>>2787835
Nah, Ushi's pretty straight. Like a 1, MAYBE a 2, on the Kinsey Scale. I could see her being talked into, or deciding to set up as a birthday surprise, a threesome and being pretty into it. Or having a casual liaison with another girl. But I can't see her actively pursuing a long-term lesbian relationship. And Jirou deserves to be more than just a drunken hookup or roped into a threesome.

Everybody's got problems. Bakugo's may explain his cuntitude, and they certainly make him an interesting character, but they do NOT excuse his douchery.
Nothing is more annoying, as an actual diagnosed sperg who busts his ass to fit in with normal people, holds down a good job, can usually pass for normal, than seeing little fagwaffles use their diagnosis as an excuse for being a little shit.
And Bakugo aint even diagnosable with anything, he's just a dickhead.

I kind of want to see Uraraka respond to Mei turning their fight into a series of billboards by negotiating a deal that gives her parents easy cheap access to Power Loader's gear for their construction business in exchange for letting Mei do her infomercial.

...which might make Uraraka a specific target for Stain, since he's probably watching the tournament while he waits for Ingenium to bleed out.

I'm also supportive of Pichu! Honestly, I think the reason there hasn't been much support for /u/ is that for once the boys on offer don't suck. Kaminari, Iida and Todoroki are all reasonably good choices!

And Bakugo's here too if for some reason you want to throw yourself in a dumpster.
>>
>>2790645
I think Denki's biggest uphill battle is that he doesn't have an angle. He's got the least interesting angle of the three.
Shoto has the daddy issues pathos angle. Iida has the uptight guy/laid back girl angle.
Denki's just kinda there. Plus plenty of people already ship him with Jiro.

They're not really mommy issues, he just has an... interesting, mom.
Bakugou's issues are more of socialization. He's a hypercompetitive jackass who always had the chops to back his jackassery up, so he never had to eat humble pie.
His mom only really relates to his taste in girls, and his perception of bantz as romantic.

Now, that's a surprise.

Going for a bite with Denki after the Tournament's over?...

"...I'll think about it, 'kay?" You answer with a smile after thinking about it for a second. "Let's see if I don't wake up in one of the infirmary beds before sayin' anything."

You can tell that's not the answer he was hoping for, but he still keeps up his smile, giving you a thumbs up before turning back to look at the ring.

>"BEGIN!!!" Shouts Present Mic, announcing the start of the fight.

And as soon as the match starts, both fighters start running at full speed, demonstrating their similar affinity, but also their differences, as Pony drops down to all fours before charging forwards.

>"She's fast, but it won't be enough. Iida's just faster." Kirishima comments as the fighters speed away from their starting positions. "Even if she manages to match him, he can just do that thing he did during the cavalry battle."

"Don't count her out just yet." You reply. But it's hard to argue against it, as the unfolding match below proves him right.

Iida raises his arms as he charges towards Pony, and with his sheer speed, you can already imagine him pushing the much smaller girl out of bounds.

Pony, on the other hand, seems to be trying to avoid him, keeping away from the center of the ring, and strongly kicking the ring, her horseshoes shattering concrete and lifting pebbles and dust with every clop.

However, despite her best efforts, Pony still ends in Iida's path, giving the boy the chance to grab her by the horns.

>"And now he'll push her out of boundaries and win." Momo summarises, seeing Iida's push quickly forcing Pony back, even as all her four limbs do their best to help her brake, yet only managing to slide and scrape against the concrete.

>"She can still recover." Deku points out, pointing at the cracks and other holes on Pony's side of the ring. "If she can hook her hooves on those and lock her legs, she might be able force Iida to stop."

>"What side are you on, anyway?" Mina asks the green haired boy. "I thought he was your friend!"

>"I'm just saying." Deku says, raising his hands with his pals forwards. "I want him to win, but it may take more than a couple seconds."

And just as he predicted, Pony's horseshoes catch on a crack, digging in and shattering concrete as Iida's push lost force and speed, leaving deep grooves in the ring's surface as she manages to bleed his momentum, but visibly lacerating her hands on the concrete as she does so.

"Told ya!" You exclaim, trying to pretend you don't see nor smell the small red lines her hands left as she held onto the concrete. "She's stronger than she looks! <C'MON SUGARCUBE!!! WE GOTTA MEET IN TWO ROUNDS!>"

Even though she's visibly hurt, she takes the initiative the moment she manages to brake, hooking her horns around Iida's knees and sweeping his legs from under him.

Maybe it's because of your… different equipment, but you've never given much thought to using your horns in a fight. Not much you can do beyond adding ventilation to your foe's insides.

>"<YEE-HAW!>" You cheer on during the brief, stunned silence that follows, jumping from your seat in excitement. "<YOU GOTTA TEACH ME HOW TO DO THAT!!!>"

The young Iida wastes no time to bounce back to his feet, but anyone watching can see him stumble a bit as he does so.

>"Yeah…" Sero starts, evidently looking at Iida's stumble. "He's done for."

"C'mon, give him a bit more credit." You say, scoffing. "He took a hit to the legs, but we don't have to put him down just yet.

>"Weren't you just cheering for your friend?" Mina asks you.

"Well, yeah, Ah want Pony to win." You say, pointing at your fellow american down in the ring. "Doesn't mean Ah want to see Iida just lose. Gotta strut your stuff to the pros, right?"

As Iida stumbles and collects himself, Pony takes her chance to gallop away from the edge of the ring, running on all fours towards the center and leaving red dots wherever she laid her hands.

Iida doesn't stay idle though, leaning forwards and repeating the trick he did during the cavalry battle, causing his exhausts to shoot jets of blue flames before charging forwards, even faster than before, to the point it's hard to follow with the eyes.

>"Well, it seems like the match will soon." Momo comments the moment the blue flames show themselves. "She barely held on before, and I'm fairly sure that she sustained some injuries while doing so. It's unlikely she can withstand this."

The boy goes forwards with his arms in front of himself, having seemingly decided to knock her out of the ring now.

>"...I didn't peg him for one of us, but he's definitely chasing that tail." Mineta comments, causing you to dart your eyes between the blur below and the pervert a dozen yards away.

While seeing the boy move is hard, you notice that Mineta is right, as his arms have no possible grip other than Pony's tail or flank.

Luckily for your respect for him, he pulls back his arms at the last moment and tackles the blonde girl instead, sending her vaulting over her own face and spinning on the ring.

>"What a square." Grapes comments once more, and you approve of his disapproval.

>"What an idiot." Bakugo adds.

Iida closes the short distance in an instant, ready to grab her and take her off the ring while she's down.

>"An idiot? He just brought her to the edge of the ring again!" Momo argues.

But the moment Iida gets close enough to reach her with his arms, he receives a solid buck to the chest instead, as the girl springs back to all fours.

She looks a bit woozy, shaking her head, but still keeps the same determined expression she held as she entered the ring.

>"A fucking idiot, then." Bakugo continues, sneering. "Look at horsey. He already tried shoving her off, but doesn't get that she'll stand its ground. He's done for."

"What should he do then, Patton?" You ask him. While your words are sarcastic and you will take anything he says with a full saltshaker, you can also recognize that as far as battling goes, he knows what he's talking about.

>"Break her." He answers without missing a beat. "She's of that special breed of retard that will keep standing up and fighting back. The idiot keeps giving her chances to wear him down instead of breaking her fucking legs and putting her out of her misery."

Having kicked Iida away from herself and taking the second-long window to build up some distance between them, Pony takes to the opposite side of the ring.

It's a rather short distance, considering her undiminished speed, but she turns back nigh instantly, kicking the concrete ring and accelerating ever faster towards the male speedster.

The space allows her to quickly build up more and more speed, until her horns emit an soft cyan glow. Then she shoots forwards like a bullet, and you aren't sure of how much of an exaggeration that is, seeing some sort of speed cone start to form in front of her as she accelerates.

It's too little space and too little time to be sure, but it looks like either the glow boosts her speed, or her horns glow brighter the faster she goes. But even with so little space as she has to run, she's already one of the fastest things you've ever seen.

"C'mon sugarcube…" You mutter, clenching your fists in anticipation.

However, the moment before she can headbutt Iida, he quickly spins around with a final burst of blue flames, raising his leg at just the right height to deliver an incredible kick to Pony's head, knocking her off course before his exhausts go dead.

>"Did I miss anything?" Shoto asks as he sits right next to you, sounding somewhat tired. "...Other than a concussion."

"A surprisingly long match." You answer without looking at him. With Pony trembling face down but still on the ring, you need to pay attention to Midnight, who approaches her to check if she can continue. "I mean… He could have just kicked her like that at the start, right?"

>"He must have underestimated her." Shoto acerts with a sigh. "It is an easy trap to fall for, thinking you should hold back. But no one else is going to."

That gets you to look away for the arena for an instant, if only to glare at him in befuddlement. At leas his arm looks okay now.

>"What?" He asks when he notices you looking at him, trying to keep his grimace at bay.

>"Can you still move?" You suddenly hear Midnight's voice through the speaker system.

But she doesn't react, not beyond clawing at the concrete floor and twitching.

More than reason enough to jump out of your seat and cup your hands around your mouth.

"<COME ON PONY! I BELIEVE IN YOU!!>" You cheer as loudly as you can, yelling your lungs empty. "<YOU CAN DO IT!!!>

>"STAND UP TSUNOTORI!!" You hear the Class B area cheer… Although you are sure at least one of them said Pony's name. "YOU CAN DO IT!!!"

Maybe she's just that well liked, or maybe it's because she's one of the only two students from that class that made it this far, but no matter the reason, their cheering sounds earnest and true.

>"<YES! I CAN!>" Pony then shouts as she manages to raise to her knees and elbows, being loud enough to be able to be heard without a microphone.

"<HOO WEE!!!>" You cheer again, reaching between your horns and pulling a few of your hairs. "...Owie."

You miss your hat.

>"Carry on then, free spirit!" Midnight yells back, hugging her flogger and retreating from the ring.

Pony takes the initiate immediately, standing on all fours once more and trotting towards Iida one last time, if you had to judge by how wobbly her gait is.

Now is Iida who tries to make some distance, but with his engines clearly stalling and with a limp on his step after Pony's awesome horn-fu, he can only backpedal a few steps before she reaches him, turning around on her hands and kicking him on the shoulders with her hooves, knocking him on his back.

...And out of the ring, falling a few feet to the dirt ground below.

>"Told ya." Bakugo says, grinning smugly.

You keep cheering as loud as your throat allows you to, but you aren't sure you are actually saying words anymore. It's just pure energy and happiness given voice.

>"HUH. THE MATCH BETWEEN TWO SPEEDSTERS HAS BEEN THE LONGEST SO FAR!? BUT NOT A SINGLE SECOND WAS WASTED, WASN'T IT?" Present Mic shouts. "A FIGHT TO WATCH AGAIN IN SLOW-MO! COME ON, CLAP YOUR HANDS EVERYBODY AND LET THEM HEAR IT!!!"

But Iida is not unconscious, picking himself up with some difficulty, cleaning his glasses with his sleeve, and climbing back up the ring, giving Pony a proper japanese bow.

You can see her eyes light up as she imitates the gesture to the best of her abilities before shuffling off the ring and towards her gate. She may have won, but she still looks battered.

Hell, compared to how Iida's walk looks almost normal as he retreats, it's plain to see that Pony took much more of a beating than him.

Not to say a villain can't be a mercenary, but if they're focusing on 3rd world shitholes I feel like there's a subtle difference in mindset. A villain cares about the presentation of what they do compared to a remorseless killer looking for a quick buck in war-torn areas. As Pony limps her way back into her gate, you calm yourself and think about what to do now.

...Not too calm though, as you are still less than an inch away from bouncing off your seat from sheer excitement.

If you want a chat with your pal Pony, there won't be a better chance than on the gates, where everything you talk about will be just between the two of you. Waiting, on the other hand, will end with you having to deal with either her class or Recovery Girl.

Shoto on the other hand, is most likely going to stay where he is and, as Sero and Mina's retreat reminds you, there will be another fight to talk over in a few minutes.

"I'm gonna go check how's she feelin'" You say as you jump off your seat, bolting back into the stadium's inner maze.

Well, it's not quite like a maze, as there's handy maps every few yards that help you catch up to Pony before she has to pick whether to go to Recovery Girl's or back to her class' seats.

She's holding a hand just over her muzzle and covering one of her eyes, slowly walking through the corridor.

"Hey… I'm sorry." You start, approaching her. "Ah didn't mean to imply you just lucked out into being here..."

>"Dun wory." She replies without stopping. "'s fine… <whuteva>."

"No really, I mean it!" You continue, offering her the same kindness you did to Momo and sliding your arm under her's, helping her along. "You just showed how you deserve being here!"

>"Yeah, yeah… 's fine." She says again, and you can feel her drag heavier and heavier on your shoulder as you go along. "Ah'm not mad... dizzy tho… we just…"

"Just?" You ask her as you start basically dragging her the rest of the way to Recovery Girl's.

>"...gotta chat tommorroww...." She slurrs together in an impressively bad display of japanese, even for her. "..wen woke."

Then you feel the rest of her weight fall on you, as the adrenaline crash drops her like a puppet freed from its strings.

Still, you pick her up and bring her to an unsurprised Recovery Girl, who already had a bed prepared for her.

>"Lay her here, deary." The youthful heroine says as she pat's the bed. "It shouldn't be anything that'll keep her down for more than a few minutes, even after the treatment… But she should have dropped right there. It's impressive how she got to walk out."

"Yeah, she was awesome." You confirm, looking at your second unconscious friend on an infirmary bed of the day, but this time, glad that you got some headway in patching things up.

You have a few minutes before the next match starts...

Pony's match was an awesome spectacle, and it felt great to cheer for her.

And while abandoning friends doesn't sit right with you, she'll be fine with Recovery Girl, and she said she'd like to talk tomorrow, when she's awake. Besides, you also want to watch Mina's match.

She got an interesting match up, to say the least.

"Get well soon, sugarcube." You say, giving her a soft pat on the shoulder and turning away…

Then you look back to her and the simple, small table next to her bed.

You quickly produce a still clean looking, sugary as god intended gummy bear and enlarge it until it can cover the whole thing. A giant gummy bear should lift her spirits after waking up, and the size alone should tell her who left it.

>"You know, I didn't expect you to end up more than once." Recovery Girl comments as you reach for the doorknob. "Try to stay a visitor. Okay, deary?"

"S-" You start saying, then think back to the brackets and your next match up. "...I'll do my best. Thanks for letting me stick around."

>"As long as you don't disturb them, you are welcome to support your friends." She replies.

You just nod and smile.

The way back to your seat is uneventful, with the only things piquing your interest being the fact that Aoyama beat you there...

You just have no idea how, only that he smells somewhat strongly of detergent. At least, strong enough to be noticeable over his perfume.

…and that the free seat that should belong to you is now between Kyoka and Momo, instead of between of Shoto and Momo as it was when you left. How odd.

"Did I miss anything? Or is it just starting?" You ask as you drop onto your seat.

>"Neither, really." Momo answers, pointing at the empty ring. "Cementoss just repaired the ring, so it's not even starting yet."

>"Should be a quick match again though." Kyoka points out. "Mina's fast, fit, and can pretty much destroy anything with her acid. Doesn't look like a good time for Sero, and I'm pretty sure he knows it."

It's… a pretty good point, really. Mina is not someone you'd want to fight, since she might be able to overpower you physically, and even if she wasn't she could easily melt the flesh off your hands.

...Good thing she's on your side.

>"FOURTH FIGHT OF THE TOURNAMENT!!!" Present Mic cheerfully and suddenly announces, prompting your classmates to come out their gates and enter the ring.

Mina looks as happy and smug as usual, the very picture of someone without a care in the world.

Sero is a bit more tame, keeping his simple smile but not really trying to cover his worry. It's clear that he's smiling despite it, not to hide it.

>"SHE BOASTS AN EYECATCHING APPEARANCE AND A NIGH UNSTOPPABLE QUIRK, FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEROICS, ASHIDO MINA!!!" Present Mic introduces your pink pal, who much like you did, walks to her starting positions posing for the cheering crowd.
>>
>"WITH THE ABILITY TO TIE UP AND STOP HIS FOES AT RANGE AND THE SPEED AND QUICK WIT TO BACK IT ALL UP, ALSO FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HEROICS, SERO HANTA!" As Present Mic introduces him, Sero just looks around and smiles, waving.

Oddly enough, his simple approach got a fair portion of the crowd waving back. Even you.
It just feels like the nice thing to do.

>"NOW, BEGIN!!!" Present Mic shrieks, causing you to move to the edge of your seat as both of your classmates try to start on a strong note.

Sero wasted no time shooting tape out of his elbows, aiming at Mina's center of mass from both sides.

Mina however, doesn't use her quirk to attack. Instead, she immediately lunges to the side and starts running, moving out of the way of Sero's tape and starting to shoot acid out of the soles of her shoes, quickly sliding into Sero's personal space.

>"...And he's fucked." Kyoka asserts, as Mina winds up for a haymaker…

One so damn telegraphed, that the wrestler in you came up with three ways to make her eat the mat in the half-second it took her.

"If he eats that, he deserves it." You comment, looking at the fight with a more critical eye.

You can't really judge others for their quirks' kinks, but you totally can critique poor fighting skills, even if pugilism isn't really your thing.

Instead of taking the hit, Sero does what he does best, shooting tape… At his own forearm. The tape nigh instantly wraps around his forearm, forming a cushion of white tape and allowing him to block Mina's haymaker without any visible pain. Then, his other arm shoots forwards in a quick jab, hitting Mina in the face.

The entire stadium feels surprised at that, falling silent for some reason, even Mina and Sero.

Hell, you aren't sure why you are surprised. Sero's hands are impressively fast, but Mina took the hit like a champ, barely turning her neck.

Then the crowd fires up again!

>What do you do?

>[Cheer for your pink pal! "COME ON SUGAR! YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THAT! ROTATE YOUR HIPS AND BE LESS DANG OBVIOUS!!!"]

From what we've seen so far, I don't think shoto needs more space. If you want to put more focus on Denki later rather than going with shoto I will vote with you (barring somthing major coming up, we really should get somthing to eat with denki) but right now our choice is between cheering for our friends (which I'm not even sure if they can hear), asking why people changed around seats (which doesn't really matter) or continuing to try and help with Shoto's extensive daddy issues (which we've been trying to do for ages and have just made significant progress on). Two options will do little, one might help a friend, the choice should be obvious.

With Sero's tape being theoretically incapable of keeping a grip on Mina, and seemingly unable of hitting the girl in the first place, and with Mina's acid being either an excellent lube or a disturbingly easy way of getting completely rid of somebody, you should have seen it coming down to blows.

It doesn't change the power dynamic all that much though, as you are fairly certain Mina could beat the tar out of most of your class, training and quirks notwithstanding.

You don't know if she has any combat training, but she's still a tough, healthy gal.

"Now we can talk. What's on your mind, sugar?" You say while leaning back to talk to Shoto, looking at him behind Momo's neck.

>"...Can you not, please?" Replies said girl, looking at you a tad annoyed. "Or don't do it around me, please. I want to focus on the fight."

You can't help but feel a bit guilty at that. You don't think she would lose track of the flurry of blows Mina is throwing at Sero, but you likely gave her a headache.

Mina's attacks are still obvious, and Sero has no problem seeing the two jabs aimed at his abdomen, stepping back and blocking them with his padded tape arm guard.

The third hit however, came in the form of a stomp at the same time he blocked the second jab, connecting with his foot and making you, Momo and Kyoka to wince. That looked like it hurt.

>"Would you mind swapping seats then, Yaoyorozu?" Shoto asks her, while you feel your toes curl in sympathy with Sero.

"Please?" You quickly plead, not giving her time to answer.

>"...Alright." She says with a sigh and trying to stand up on her own. You and Shoto however, quickly help her to Shoto's previous seat.

>"Well, that makes things harder for us." Kyoka points out, leaning forwards to look at Momo.

Then she grumbles and keeps going lower, until she can almost place her cheek over her knee.

>"...This isn't going to work." She concludes, puffing her cheeks and looking to the other side.

You and Shoto share a short glance and shrug over that, while Momo just brings a hand to her face.

When you drop back to your own seat, you can see that even with a bit of a limp on his step, Sero continues backpedaling, quickly checking over his shoulder as he draws closer to the edge of the ring.

"So, what's got you all frowny this time, sugar?" You ask him softly, trying to not be heard by anyone else while still sounding upbeat. It's even more complex to do while keeping your eyes on the fight below. "Your old man bothering you again?"

Down on the ring, you can see Mina try a new move and opt for a kick, which Sero still manages to block, reinforcing his padded arm with his free hand, but not taking the moment during which she lost her balance to strike back, using it instead to retreat again and come to stand dangerously close to the edge of the ring.

You don't know why Sero is giving so much ground away, risking getting thrown off the ring by any strong maneuver or blow.

>"...Yes." Shoto answers after a few seconds pause, causing you to glance at him.

He looks… sad. Not only sad, as every part of his face looks like that of a boy about to blow a fuse, all but his eyes. There's an unmistakable dullness to his mismatching eyes that can't be confused with any other emotion.

"What did he do now?" You ask, genuinely curious. While you don't doubt Endeavor would know by memory all of Shoto's buttons, the boy's so numb to everything that the fact he's this afflicted is worrying.

>"Few new thing. Said I am being a disgrace, and that my fight proved I am at my limit. That I can't keep fighting only with my mother's… with my right side." He elaborates, keeping his voice low as well. "...Then he brought you up."

You can see Mina perform a perfect spear, probably thanks to her stronger legs. But you can't admire her form with the chill Shoto's words sends down your spine.

"W-what did he say... sugar?" You nervously ask, wondering what part do you play in all this.

>"That you have been using both of your parents quirks during the Festival, and have managed to surpass me thanks to that." He says, looking down at his hands. "He saw that rogue flame, during the cavalry battle, and said that I either start using my flames, or he will ramp up our training."

That's somewhat surprising, since you expected someone much worse. You continue watching the fight below as you ruminate on what he said.

Sero doesn't seem surprised at Mina's flying tackle, if anything, he looks happier as he allows himself to fall on his back, quickly hitting the concrete before Mina's spear can connect, with her momentum making her look like she'll land atop him.

Although the loud, thumping sound of his back hitting the ring makes you wince, it's rather impressive how his hair ends a few centimeters short of the ring's edge, allowing him to raise his elbows and shoot tape at Mina while she flies over him, wrapping her entire body in an instant and giving her a slight boost.

The tape around her instantly starts emitting fumes and falling apart though, not even holding her long enough to force her to land on her face, as she flips and twirls in the air to land on her feet, a few feet away.

Then the siren starts blaring, calling your attention to where Mina ended up standing. Just a foot over the line.

"I reckon that doesn't sound so bad." You say with a bit of a giggle, somewhat relieved. "Ah was expecting some kinda threat after all that."

Down below, Mina stares at the void for a couple seconds as Sero picks himself up, dusting off his P.E uniform. Then she screams and places both of her fists over her chest for a few seconds, stomping on the spot before calming down and lowering her head.

>"Ushi, last training was a thinly veiled excuse to have me beat you with a stick." He states, deadly serious. "If he associated that flame with you being in danger, I dread to think what he may be planning."

...Oh. Yeah. That sounds a lot worse now.
>>
As you see Midnight announce that Sero advances to the next round, Mina approaches him with a hand raised, culminating in a high five when she reaches him.

"Yeah!..." You cheer half-assedly, thinking of what to say.

Then the fighters retreat together into the stadium inner passages, seemingly chatting and laughing.

>What do you do?

>[Well, ain't that bloody easy. You gotta keep your hide untanned and on your back. "...Then you just gotta use your flames. Please, for me?"]

Next thread should be up… Tuesday!

As always, now's the time for rambling, thoughts, questions and pic dumps.

I'm sorry for the slow pace of the quest, and even more for skipping some days, but life has a way to fuck with my schedule and any and all plans I make. Still, the fact that so many of you stick around and vote, lurk or binge the archives later is a great motivator to for me to continue.

As is breaking... well, poking past 800 posts.

Thanks y'all.

Something someone whipped up on the quest discord. I think it's pretty neat.

I hope a drawfriend can make a head image of Ushi that matches the style of the canon characters.

The characters are all super diverse tho, how would that work?
>>

Horikoshi uses wildly diverse designs, but his linework itself has some pretty distinctive qualities, just like any artist. It's what helps them still look like a single cast in spite of some of them (like Sero and that freaking smile) being in what appear to be completely different styles.
