You are pilot HARRY NEUMANN, the newest of one of the New UN Spacy's Tactical Sound Units!

Right now, you had just found yourself in the midst of a squadron of what you could only assume were elite ace Zentradi battlesuits guarding the control center you were supposed to seize.

So, it was a dozen of them versus just you and Lara in your VF-19s. Sure, backup was on the way behind you, but it would take while for them to catch up to you.

Do you engage them now? Rush them while you still had the initiative and get some early hits in? It would be the most effective tactic but you ran risk of damaging the communication equipment you needed to broadcast Amy's voice.

Try to flee or lure them out? Then they were sure to have the time to raise the alarm and you'd have a full on battle on your hands.

In this situation, there was no time to think. You push your control sticks forward and your Valkyrie charges in.

"Haha! Let's waste these bitches!" Lara whoops as she's not far behind.

However, you had to think carefully on how exactly to engage these Zentradi. Making full use of your cannon and missiles was the most obvious and effective tactic, but the chances of collateral damage were extremely high. Maybe you had to restrict things to close combat? But then you'd be venturing into territory where the Zentradi generally held the advantage...

Fortunately for you, the Zentradi are even more off guard than you and Lara were, as they stay frozen in place for several critical seconds. This gives you an opportunity and fire two bursts in quick succession, immediately downing two battlesuits as your cannon rounds tear through their armor.

A third one finally gains its senses and charges you, but you swing your Valkyrie's left arm out, catching the Zentradi in a hard backhand that sends the battlesuit tumbling over a control console.

Lara also acts quickly, moving forward with her own cannon drawn and firing. However, she only manages a few grazing and minor shots, which serve more to scatter the remaining battlesuits than anything.

Actually, your attack was apparently so sudden and so vicious, that the Zentradi were actually retreating, the battlesuits boosting away at full speed and out of the control center. They would no doubt regroup and rally and no doubt send out an alert, but they've ceded possession of the control center.

"They're on the run!" Lara chirps. "Come on! Let's go after 'em!"

"Wait!" You bark. "We've got the objective. Now all we've got to do is hold it."

"Awwwww, but they're gonna call the alarm!" Lara whines.

"They're going to know something is up the moment Amy starts doing her thing." You grunt.

And just in time, Kellerman arrives with Amy and Cole in his hands, followed closely by a squad of Roughnecks in their specialized destroids.

"Well, looks like we didn't need to go through the trouble securing this place." Kellerman grunts. "All right, let's get this started!"

Two of the Roughnecks trudge forward, setting a specialized device on top of one of the consoles. It immediately connects and lights up, becoming both a hacking device and a miniature stage which Kellerman sets Amy down on.

"You ready, Amy?" You ask her.

"Of course I am!" Amy pouts.

Suddenly, there's a slight rumble in the floor, and warning sirens start blaring.

"What the hell is going on?!" Lara yelps.

"Shit." Kellerman's Valkyrie strides towards one of the main consoles, its main optic scanning the screens. "Looks like the Zents caught on to what they're going. They're attacking the Star Forge's external comms antennas!"

Sure enough, you could see from the external cameras that the Zentradi fleet stationed outside the Star Forge were now bombarding the very satellite they were protecting, focusing their firepower on certain points of the massive asteroid base. Countless lasers punched into the thick layer of rock coating the facility, sending debris and molten mist floating in all directions.

"We've got to start transmitting!" You say.

"We still haven't cracked their firewalls." Kellerman explains. "Thankfully, the Protoculture build their shit to last. They can take out a few of the antennas but I doubt they can get all of them."

"Can't this thing work any faster?" Amy groans as she kicks the hacking device she's standing on.

"Yeah! Work faster!" Cole likewise kicks the device in unison.

If we trust the intuition and fail, the entire fleet is doomed, but if we fight them off the Antenna, while we'd take some casualties for sure, there would also be a far better chance to ensure the entire plan works. Rather than trusting in the incompetence of the enemy, it's far better to trust our own fleet's capabilities. After all, we NEED this mission to succeed.

"We're in!" One of the techs announces.

"Amy! Hit it!" You yell.

"Already on it!" Amy nods as she points in the air, signalling for the show to start. "Time for some MAXIMUM IMPACT!"

Immediately, the comm buzzes with white noise for a brief second as it picks up new signals, and new, intense music begins blaring.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV5IheNfK54

Maximum impact indeed.

On the control center screen, you could see the Zentradi ships around the factory immediately cease firing, their crews no doubt caught off guard by Amy's sudden musical attack.

However, the Zentradi ships farther out begin activating their engines, trying to move farther away from the station. Smart move, you had to admit. The farther distance meant Amy's fold waves had a lesser effect on them.

And on cue, you see the Pacifica and her accompanying fleet Fold in, Dorothea coming in to handle her part of the plan. Immediately, the Zentradi fleet is lit up with lasers, missiles, and bombs as the NUNS fleet shows no mercy.

"Think you're gonna need to go out there." Kellerman grunts. "We gotta get the song out there, right?"

You look to Kellerman, and then to Amy, still singing her heart out on her makeshift stage and surrounded by a wall of steel as the Roughnecks form a defensive perimeter.

"We've got reports of Zentradi security forces skirmishing with our patrols." One of the Roughnecks reports. "Looks like we've got some real hardasses on our hands."

"Don't worry, we can handle things here." Kellerman assures you.

You and Lara head into a storage bay, where you see that all of the Zentradi personnel, including the guards, seem to be stumbling about in a daze. Considering they were getting the full blast of Amy's performance, you were honestly surprised that they were still standing on their feet. However, none of them make any moves to stop you as you head over to a pile of crates.

Your Valkyrie's sensors automatically scan the creates ahead of you, and the readings immediately cause you to pause.

These crates contained working reaction bombs. Big ones, too. Judging from the dimensions, your VF-19 would only be able to carry one underneath each wing. That would be a lot of potential firepower for a lot of extra bulk.

"Oh yeah, jackpot!" Lara says gleefully as she tears off a crate cover. "We can make a serious boom with these!"

"All right, let's load up." You say as you reach down and pick up a pair of reaction bombs, being very, VERY careful to make sure they're properly attached to your weapon hardpoints.

"Loaded up and ready to go!" Lara says proudly, two reaction bombs already attached to the back of her Valkryie. She certainly worked fast. "Need some help?"

"No, I can handle it." You sigh.

Amy's song is still going strong as you and Lara exit the Star Forge from the same way you came, the resource intake shaft. Despite Amy's song going, the automated freighters were still flowing in and out, their robotic systems completely unaffected. A pair of Roughnecks wave at you as you and Lara boost out of the shaft and into open space.

Thankfully, the Zentradi ships in the immediate area don't react to your presence, Amy's song making a strong impression on their crews, you assume. They just seem to float aimlessly, with a few capital ships even bumping and scraping into one another as they fall out of their previously flawless formation.

Farther out, though, was a different story. The farther from the Star Forge, the weaker Amy's song got and the more active the Zentradi were. Hopefully, those new fold boosters the fleet was deploying as well as your VF-19's special built in broadcast emitter would tip the balance.

Immediately, though, you could see there were problems. Dorothea had naturally taken up a position directly ahead of the Zentradi fleet, no doubt to prevent them from Folding away to regroup or attack NUNS space. This meant that both fleets were in a pitched, head on battle, with lasers and missiles and explosions twinkling endlessly like glitter.

"Admiral, you need any help?" You ask as you get into comm range of the Pacifica. "Amy's working her magic right now."

"Where do I even start?" Dorothea grunts before shouting. "Direct all batteries on that target!"

"Bad time?"

"The worst." Dorothea replies quickly. "Look, I need to manage the fleet's deployment, so I'll have to trust you know what to do."

You glance at your sensor screen to get an overall picture. Right now, it was just a straight up pitched battle, with the Zentradi fleet attempting to overwhelm Dorothea. Meanwhile, you saw one massive contact blazing through the Zentradi formation from the rear. No doubt the Zentradi big boss himself on his way to the frontlines.

That wasn't even beginning to start with the sheer scale of the individual fighter battles, which were more like swarms of insects stinging at each other, you noticed quite a few crimson Zentradi battlesuits in the mix.

"Let's go pay their fleet a little visit." You tell Lara.

"Straight into it, eh?" Lara laughs. "We gonna set off some fireworks or let Amy do her thing?"

"Time to give them a little present." You tell Lara.

"Ohoho, now that's what I'm talking about!" Lara chortles. "Time to rack up the big kills!"

As if to punctuate her words, the Pacifica flashes as her Macross cannon fires, unleashing a beam of blinding, golden light that spears through the tightly packed Zentradi formation, instantly incinerating thousands of ships and damaging thousands more.

But that was a drop in a bucket for a fleet numbering in the millions.

Immediately, more Zentradi ships flowed in like water to fill the gap, their guns blazing as they moved. But that just made them targets for you and Lara.

You immediately vector in on the battleships in the center of the Zentradi formation. These were the big guns that presented the largest threat to the Pacifica and the rest of the fleet. Up ahead, you could see a cluster of easily at least a dozen Zentradi battleships with their attendant support ships close to their sides. The perfect target.

"Safeties off, Lara, we're going in." You warn her.

You and Lara release your payloads, and you watch as the reaction bombs launch and propel themselves towards the cluster of Zentradi battleships.

Four miniature suns form within their ranks and armored hulls melt, warp, or completely incinerate under the intense heat. Two of the battleships are instantly engulfed by nuclear fire while others explode after a few seconds delay. Countless smaller ships pop and sizzle like popcorn as once again the Zentradi formation is disrupted.

And that's when the Pacifica charges forward.

Well, not alone, of course. There were a number of NUNS ships flying ahead as a spearhead, arrayed in a large conical formation mean to shove anything ahead of them out of the path of the Pacifica.

And it didn't take a genius to figure out that the ship was charge directly at the massive Zentradi flagship. It looked like Dorothea was out to decapitate the Zentradi fleet while she could.

"Admiral!" You call out. "Are you-"

"I've run the numbers." Dorothea responds calmly. Almost too calmly. "Our best chance is to eliminate this Warmaster of theirs in battle. That will be the tipping point we need to shatter their morale for good."

"It's suicide!" You say as you double check the density and numbers of Zentradi ahead of her.

"I do intend to come back from this. Don't worry." Dorothea tries to assure you. "Just stay back and keep their fighters from circling around on us."

"All right, I'll trust you on this." You say as you turn your Valkyrie around.

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." Dorothea says as the Pacifica continues forward, shrugging off countless laser blasts and missiles thanks to her powerful pinpoint barriers.

And sure enough, exactly as Dorothea had predicted, you can see a swarm of Zentradi fighters, battlepods, and battlesuits in hot pursuit of the Pacifica.

You could see that the remaining aces, six of them, were leading the vanguard, but right behind them were battlepods heavily laden with missiles and bombs. Extremely large threats to any capital ship, the Pacifica included.

It was no contest. Like dolphins swimming through a school of fish, you and Lara dive through the battlepod squads, guns and and missiles blazing. The Zentradi battlepods don't even stand a chance as they're mercilessly shredded and shot down by you and Lara as ou make your high speed pass. Dozens of them explode as you and Lara blaze a path.

However, you note the aces hadn't stopped to help them comrades, instead making a beeline straight for the Pacifica as she gets closer and closer to engaging the Warmaster's flagship.

You decide to keep trusting in Dorothea's plan and you continue thinning out the herd of battlepods alongside Lara. However, you're suddenly interrupted by a loud gasp from Lara.

"Holy shit!" She yelps.

"What's wrong?" You ask.

"L-look! The Pacifica!" She cries.

You turn your head to look and your heart freezes as you could see countless transports and escape pods departing from the ship as it barreled towards the flagship.

"Not intending to die" your ass! Dorothea really was trying to do something stupid!

And just like that, you flip your Valkyrie around and power forward at full speed, praying, hoping that you would make it.

Thankfully, Dorothea's mad charge forward with the fleet had largely cleared any potential obstacle from your path, making it a straight shot to the Pacifica, save for the hulks of destroyed ships lying in your path that you had to take care to weave and maneuver around.

However, as you had suspected, breaking away from the battle had attracted the attention of the Zentradi aces, were were beginning to vector in on your position.

Well, hopefully your speed-

You have no choice. You just grit your teeth and continue pressing forward at full speed. There's a flash of light behind you as something explodes, but you can't afford to look behind you to confirm whether it was Lara or something else.

Meanwhile, as if somehow aware of your predicament, Amy switches to her next song on the list.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ywi3LfJnSs

Everything in front of you becomes a blur as your push your VF-19's engines to their absolute limit, surpassing the built in inertial compensators as you're pressed back against your seat.

Up ahead, though, you could see the Pacifica close in on the Zentradi flagship, unleashing her Macross cannon at point blank range at full power. There's a flash of rainbow light as the flagship raises a powerful pinpoint barrier. No wonder Dorothea was resorting to such a foolish charge!

Suddenly, hundreds of suns materialize all along the barrier as the Pacifica releases what appears to be her entire payload of reaction warheads, and the barrier finally shatters, allowing the ship to close the last few kilometers.

Giant armored feet land on the top deck of the flagship and they grind and screech from the impact. Point blank laser blasts gouge into [i[Pacifica's hull, tearing chunks out of her and starting fires all along her body. Stress beyond their limits, the Macross cannons on the shoulders combust and explode, bathing the ship in fire.

But Pacifica continues forward. You just notice her arms were missing, no doubt having already been detached to facilitate the evacuation. But you had a feeling Dorothea was still on the ship. No, more than a feeling...

And that's when what's left of the Pacifica headbutts the bridge of the flagship.

"Dorothea? Dorothea!!!" You yell over the comms.

"Harry, is that you...?" You hear Dorothea cough, her voice weak. "Ah, good timing. There's a dimensional bomb in the hangar bay, but I've lost all diagnostics. Do you mind checking if its still operational...?"

"What about you?" You ask.

"I'm fine. I'm directing things from the bridge." Dorothea responds. "I'll abandon ship once I'm sure the weapon is armed."

God she's such a horrible liar.

"Dimension bomb be damned, I'm not leaving here without you." You grunt.

"Harry-"

You don't give her the chance to say anything, to let her talk you out of what you're about to do. You boost through the final stretch, dodging Zentradi AA fire before stopping right in front of the Pacifica's bridge. The thick glass was cracked and pockmarked with craters, but still in one piece. There, you could see Dorothea in her command chair. One of her legs was clearly hastily bandaged and bleeding. No doubt the reason why she opted to stay behind.

"Harry, I can't move in this condition." Dorothea sighs as she looks at you from the other side of the glass. "Well, there's no time, in any case. Assuming the dimensional bomb armed properly, we hardly have a minute left now. "

"Dorothea, take a deep breath." You instruct her.

"Wha-" Dorothea blinks, and then her face pales when she realizes what's about to happen.

You switch to GERWALK mode, ball your Valkyrie's right hand into a fist, and punch the bridge window with all of your might. The armored glass, already weakened, shatters effortlessly, and the shards are immediately blown out as the vacuum sucks the interior of the bridge out. Dorothea is sent flying and tumbling through the air, but you're ready, and your Valkyrie's left arm catches her. You quickly pop open the canopy, drop Dorothea into the back seat, and close it.

"I'm going to court martial you for this, you insane knob!" Dorothea yells.

"Good. We'll be alive to see it, then." You grunt as you put your Valkyrie into full throttle.

And that's when the worst possible thing happens.

Your sensors start shrieking nonstop warnings as you suddenly feel dizzy and nauseous. You look back to see a single, indescribably black orb, materialize in the center of the Pacifica.

And it's growing larger and larger and larger.

"It's detonated!" Dorothea gasps. "Fly! FLY!"

You don't have to be ordered by an Admiral to know that a dimensional bomb detonating was bad news. You push the throttle as far as it could go, but the Fold singularity continues to gain as your sensors continue to shriek danger messages.

You only had seconds to react. You could disable your VF-19's speed limiter, but that limiter was in place for safety reasons, and Dorothea was in the cockpit with you...

Your only other alternative would be an emergency fold jump, but who knew where you'd end up in that case?

"Hold on, Doro!" You yell as you activate your Fold engine. There's no time to punch in proper coordinates. You just take the first generated set you see, which would at least guarantee you won't jump into the the middle of a sun or black hole or something like that.

There's a flash of rainbow light as your Valkyrie shakes and rumbles from the turbulence. You keep your grip on your control stick tight as you count the seconds...

One.

Two.

Three-

And then the rainbow view is suddenly replaced by stars and space as you drop back into reality.

"Doro, you alive back there?" You ask.

"Somewhat." Dorothea grunts.

You run a quick diagnostic on your Valkyrie. Most of the systems were operational, if only barely, but the emergency fold jump basically knocked out your fold engine, at least for the time being.

"So, you think we won?" You ask Dorothea.

"We better have." She sighs as she leans against the back of your seat. "That dimensional bomb would have engulfed a good portion of the fleet and their entire command structure. There's no way the Zentradi fleet would have stayed unified after that."

"Guess we can't do much but trust in everyone else, huh?"

"Well, if there's anything I learned today." Dorothea smiles as she leans further forward and kisses you on the cheek. "I can trust my subordinates to do the right thing. Thank you... for coming back for me."

"As if i would do anything else." You reply simply.

"Of course." Dorothea chuckles.

"Well, not much to do but fire up the emergency beacon and hope we didn't jump out of broadcast range." You suggest.

"Hm, well." Dorothea wraps her arms around your seat and your chest. "Maybe we can hold off on that for a few more minutes...?"

"Well, you're the Admiral." You nod and pause. "Wait, but what about your leg-"

That's when you see an empty first aid box fly over your head and land in your.

"It's quite amazing, the sort of things they can fit into a standard first aid kit." Dorothea giggles.

Wait a minute. You narrow your eyes. The bandages and disinfectants were all used up, naturally. But... the painkillers were all gone, too.

She didn't, did she...?

"You know, I don't think the two of us had ever been in a cockpit alone together." Dorothea giggles as she climbs over the back of your seat and settles into your lap, despite the cramped confines of the cockpit barely allowing it. "Amy's such a lucky girl..."

"Doro, maybe we-"

And then you're cut off when Dorothea locks your mouth in a kiss.

You're not sure how long the two of you stay like that, but you do realize when you're broken out of your trance when you hear a pounding on the canopy.

Both you and Dorothea look up to see both Lara and Amy in spacesuits hovering just outside your cockpit, Lara's own VF-19 floating in the background. Guess rescue came much sooner than you thought.

Lara merely gives a thumbs up while Amy has a completely mortified expression on her face that is seemingly perfectly mirrored on Dorothea's.

Dorothea the hits the comm button on your console.

"Not. A. Word. Of. This. To. Anybody." She says sternly, her face getting redder than even her hair.

"Aye aye, Admiral!" Lara salutes, her hand clinking off her spacesuit visor. "Want us to give you ten more minutes?"

"Oh god it feels like watching my parents fuck..." Amy groans in disgust.

Well... despite this embarrassing little episode, you at least had the feeling that things were going to be okay...

The immediate aftermath of what came to be known as the Battle of the Star Forge ended in an undeniable and decisive victory for the New UN Spacy.

The Star Forge was seized with its core manufacturing systems intact. Coupled with the vast resources in the Torman Fields, the Star Forge would prove to be a focal point for NUNS power projection and future expansion in the future, providing an effective jumping off point for subsequent colonization fleets.

Meanwhile, the might Zentradi fleet that had been massing in the sector had been irrecoverably scattered, their morale shattered by a combination of strategic culture shock methods as well as the confirmed destruction of their entire centralized command structure.

For the time being, the Nabaal Sector was safe from Zentradi attack, allowing NUNS to commit its resources to more pressing fronts. The combination of the NUNS demobilization as well as the overwhelming victory at the Star Forge swayed public opinion heavily in favor of NUNS rule, relegating the Colonial Liberation Front to a fringe movement with no realistic prospect of seizing power.

While the chapter on the Nabaal sector was effectively closed, the story continued for many of the people who contributed to its defense...

KELLERMAN

Kellerman survived the battle of the Star Forge, mounting an effective defense against Zentradi forces attempting to silence Amy, which he quickly turned into savage counterattack to seize the entire facility. In recognition of his courage and guile, he received a fair amount of NUNS' highest awards.

However, the Battle of the Star Forge would be his last. After the dust settled, Keller opted to retire from service. Not only was he already well past the recommended age bracket for combat pilots, but he also saw that he was no longer needed in the fleet, either as Dorothea's tactical advisor or confidant.

Kellerman wouldn't completely forgo the military lifestyle, though. He subsequently joined the Nabaal Colonial Defense Force as a trainer, spending the rest of his days whipping the next generation of CDF cadets into a proper fighting force.

KARLA WEISS

Not much is known about what happened to Karla after the battle. As is common with those in her profession, she effectively disappeared from the public record after her presence was no longer needed.

However, eyewitness reports claim sightings of a woman matching her description prowling around areas of the Star Forge that as of yet remain unexplored or off limits. If extracting every secret the facility is hiding is indeed her new job, then Karla certainly won't be short of work for the foreseeable future.

JULIE AND COLE

Cole, being a newly cultured Zentradi, was put under the care of Julie in order to foster her significant piloting ability. Julie of course didn't mind having an adorable subordinate, but was quickly disappointed when the young Cole transferred to the 7th Tactical Sound Unit the first opportunity she had.

This has of course reignited the (friendly) rivalry between Julie and Lara, with both sides clashing with each other for years to come.

LARA WILLIAMS

Lara of course remained a Valkyrie pilot, eventually taking Harry's place as the commander of the 7th Tactical Sound Unit. In addition to assuming security duties for Amy while she's working, Lara has also taken on responsibility for having to actually manage and mentor her squad members, a fresh challenge for one who previously didn't mind settling for being a mere wingmate.

Still, Lara has earned something of a reputation of being an "Idol of the Skies", thanks in no small part due to her daring (and usually completely improvised) aerial stuntwork during Amy's performances. She's certainly attracted the attention of more than a few hotshot aces, but so far, none of them have even met the bare requirement of matching her in a 1v1 dogfight.

AMY GATES

Surprising pretty much everybody, Amy decided to remain being an idol after seeing how much everybody loved her songs and performances.

However, that didn't mean that she didn't rather loudly and publicly "think about" retiring from the idol life, causing something of a scandal as numerous private companies like SMS and Chaos sought her services.

In the end, Amy stayed on after NUNS High Command agreed to her demands. After all, a custom built Konig Monster for her personal use was a small price to pay for her continued service and loyalty.

Of course, there were no illusions that Amy had assistance in using these pressure and negotiation tactics against NUNS. The most immediate suspicions were on Dorothea and Harry, though there are possibilities that it was even Karla herself pulling the strings, though nobody knows for sure.

Amy is still the leading star of the 7th Tactical Sound Unit, working alongside Lara. Even now, the unit's numbers continue to grow along with its notoriety.

HARRY NEUMANN AND DOROTHEA NELSON

Despite sacrificing a valuable Macross-class carrier during the battle, Dorothea was officially cleared of all charges of misconduct after a post-battle review determined that NUNS casualties would have been significantly higher if not for her daring act.

However, this didn't stop High Command from reassigning Dorothea to they inner colony world of New Eden as its military governor. While most officers would consider it a punishment duty or even a demotion, Dorothea didn't really mind at all.

After all, it gave her plenty of time to care for her and Harry's young daughter and their two unborn twins on the way.

Harry remained under Dorothea's command, having been transferred out of the 7th Tactical Sound Unit and being promoted to Dorothea's Chief Tactical Officer in Kellerman's place. He proved to be rather effective in this role, often playing the voice of reason when Dorothea's self-doubts and self-sacrificing tendencies got the better of her.

The two would be practically inseparable for the rest of their military service, as well as in marriage.

Fortunately (or unfortunately), their children would pick up a lot of interesting quirks from them, and Amy and Lara proved to be rather "unreliable" role models as well, much to Harry and Dorothea's future annoyance...
