Hey y'all. If you couldn't tell, this quest will be taking place in the well known DC Comics universe. Here there be gods and monsters, magicians and aliens, and even a clown or two. But bear in mind that due to various time travel related and or multiversal shenanigans, the DC world is ridiculously complex as a whole. So I'll be running a very streamlined version of it. And to be up front about it, it will likely be shaped by my own likes, dislikes, and biases.
Oh, and aforementioned shenanigans won't be making an appearance.
Mostly.

>The Rules
I will write up the life of our young hero Morgan Barrett, a high school student who has just truly begun his career as a superhero in Gotham City as Gray Ghost, you will be given prompts to direct him.
Some things will require a dice roll to determine success or failure or something else entirely. Write In's are absolutely encouraged but I reserve the right to torpedo anything.

The voting period will last 20 minutes after the prompts are given. I will then announce the voting closed and write up the chosen response.

>The Dice
We will be using 1d100 ninety percent of the time here. Best of three. We might use something else when applicable. I'll be running with a loose sort of degrees of success/failure thing here so no real DCs.

Well, this is certainly a fine situation.

After you convinced Fries to work of Frost's cure you were feeling a little invincible. Just motivated really. You feel like you owe to the guy to bring his wife back, safe and sound. From what you've read, and what Bruce has told you, the good doctor only got into this super villain business to help her.

So you raced off with Batman to narrow down her possible locations, and hopefully put an end to this tonight. But now things have gotten way tougher, and more complicated than you could've known. Firefly, AND Killer Moth are chillin out here, obviously under the employ of Black Mask. Roman scum sucking Sionis.

And if that's not enough. They've got a connection with HIVE. And they're strictly off limits to the Titans, as per the orders of one Deathstroke. If you make a move, and they find it's you. Your actions could get back the one eyed fucker and he just might make good on those promises. To be honest with yourself, you don't wanna find out if he'll stick to his word.

Not to mention that you'll be vulnerable to whatever the hell these two maniacs throw at you. Your suit is flame retardant but you don't wanna test if it'll save you from melting into a puddle. Moth has clearly gotten an upgrade since getting his ass handed to him by Batgirl. You've got no way of knowing what bullshit he'll throw at you. Like Firefly's active camo.

That hidden elevator is the most troubling thing about this though. You don't even have to guess where it goes. Killer Moth opened his big mouth and let you know that it's some kind of secret HIVE facility. Or maybe some kind of transport or storage area?

Whatever the case, it's your best bet when it comes to finding Nora. But how do you play this? You could get the jump on dumb dumber, but if they get the upper hand while you've got no backup.... But then again, you could call for help. But then it'll be that much harder to snoop around. And you can go places Robin or Batman can't go.

And that's not even considering what could happen if you're caught in HIVE territory. What should you do?

>Sneak down into the elevator shaft. You've gotta know what's going on down there.
>Call for backup, Robin should be here soon.
>Fuck it, sneak up on one of these assholes and damage their gear before they know what hit them.

You're not about to let an opportunity like this pass you by. You've gotta know what they're hiding down there. But first, you've gotta make sure someone knows what you're up to. You get on comms, which feels a little weird after spending as much time as you have with the benefit of M'gann's psychic link, and let Robin know what you're going to attempt.

With that out of the way, you disperse entirely, and spread yourself out as much as you can without losing your sense of space. You slip into the freight elevator shaft right before the doors seal and no one is the wiser. At least you don't think they are, as it's still pretty quiet out there.

Looking around, you're now alone in the dark in here. Changing the settings on your goggles, you prepare yourself to journey downwards. You disperse again and slip through the cracks and seams of the machinery. You reform partially, and float down the slanted shaft, sort of moonwalking in your ultra light state.

When you make it down, you're facing down huge bunker style doors. But just as usual, you seep into the smallest cracks. And as you do so, you float upwards to avoid the eye of anyone they may be on the other side. When you're perception allows it, you can see that this is definitely a HIVE operation.

It seems you're in some sort of secret warehouse. There are hexagonal barrels of god knows what lined up on shelves and being transported on lifts. You even see an armored vehicle identical to the one that you saw Killer Moth hop off of up on the surface.

There are also familiar golden clad guards patrolling and overseeing work being done by equally honey gold colored workers in hazmat gear. Could that mean there are chemicals being stored and transported here? For now, you should worry about not being seen. You float up onto one of the top racks, feeling just a little too exposed in the well lit room.

What's your next move?

You're going to need more intel before you can know what to do about this. So far, all you've got is conjecture. You take a good look at the golden container you're kneeling on, it's smooth surface feels sturdy as hell, and whatever is in these things is goddamn heavy. You're honestly a bit afraid to try and crack it open. Though it should be a snap with your laser cutter. Otherwise it seems some kind of industrial tool is needed to open these up.

Which tells you that whatever is in there is important. But you come to the conclusion that cracking it open is simply too risky for now. So you're back to needing more information. You tune your googles for a moment, looking for the comms frequency going between the HIVE guards and staff. You can see how they've avoided the watchful eyes of Batman, the only reason you're able to listen in is because you're ten feet away.

The chatter is being kept to a minimum. Not that you're surprised, these guys put off an air of professionalism and competence that you haven't really seen before. Sionis' thugs sure act like they're a big deal, but the numerous bruises you've left behind on them don't tell a promising story about how well they walk the walk. Then there's the Royal Flush Gang. Those mercs, their inner circle was the real threat. And while the bulk of their forces had good tech and skills, they were disorganized and more like a bunch of rowdy hang members than paid pros.

You disperse again and flow down between the containers and through the slotted shelves, all the way down to the floor. From their, it's slow going. You're going to avoid the ceiling, seeing how well light this place is, and if you fuck up and float in front of a light, a passing guard could see your shadow. You absolutely need to keep their alert level at zero for as long as you can, not to mention preserve the element of surprise if things get nasty.

As you're making you're way around, you notice a guard who isn't changing position much, but is braking orders every now and again. There's nearly nothing to suggest he's different fro the others. Save for a few slanted black stripes on his shoulder pauldron. Must be a commander of sorts. When you notice him, you begin following without making a sound. Hoping he'll give something away about the nature of this place.

For a while, you're stuck just listening to him overseeing the manual labor going on here. But soon, he's hailed on his comms. He answers immediately. "Ma'am. Yes. Right away ma'am." And off he goes. Hmm. Seems you're only getting the outgoing comms. You've gotta do some work on your goggles before you go out on mission again. Following the commander, you return to a high perch, and choose to follow in on the far wall, near the ceiling to avoid people's lines of sight.

Though you've gotta act quickly as you see him headed for a door leading further in, a couple of guards scan him before he's allowed through though, even though he outranks them by what you can tell. Of course, his scan comes up clean and he's allowed through. So you slip in through the top of the door to not be seen.

Alright, let's hope he takes you somewhere worthwhile.

As you head inwards you get a look at the general floor layout from a directory you pass by. It's all very technical, so you don't get to take everything away without losing your tail, but this place has several more floors. Not only that, but Killer Moth was right, for once, this whole facility is shaped in a downward honeycomb. They really do stick to this whole hive thing no matter what.

But more importantly, the area you just left was labeled as Plasma Storage. Now you what's in those hexagonal barrels, but what kind of plasma? And what it's being used for? You still need answers for those questions. You manage to avoid the eye of anyone the commander passes in the winding hall by staying just above him, avoiding the ceiling light by worming around them. It's hard work to stay in your fully dispersed form for so long, but it'll be worth it. You hope.

Eventually he unknowingly leads you to another high security checkpoint. There's another scan and this door sealed up tight. Though you haven't met anything you could slip through yet. Shadowing him, you arrive in some sort of lab. There are even more of the golden suited guys in here scurrying about. They go from one thing to another, working hard. Must be some kind of project going on.

The commander simply enters and walks straight up to who is clearly in charge of this frenzy. You've watched mom work enough to know that. "Is the Jelly prepared?" Is all he says, and without a word, the scientist hands him a canister locked in some kind of brace.

Before he walks away, the scientist speaks up. "I know I don't have to tell you this, but use the utmost caution on your way to Queen. The Royal Jelly will solidify in minutes, even with the coolant." He merely nods in acknowledgement and joins four other guards you didn't notice standing in the doorway.

You have no idea what the hell Royal Jelly could be but apparently this Queen person is so paranoid she assigns it a guard detail inside of their own base? This is all pretty damn fishy. Well, if the goings on of a secret super crime organization could get any fishier. You follow as you have been, curious to see this Queen, or at least whatever the hell royal jelly is.

Something strikes you as off as you follow the guards on your decent. It's not like the ones from before were chatterboxes, but these guys are as silent as the grave. Not a word has been spoken between them, and the commander didn't even summon them. Suddenly you're reminded of the cultists, quiet, feeling no pain, never tiring. Strange as all hell to fight, all the way to the end.

It looks like all of your waiting is about to pay off though. You've made it all the way to the bottom of the facility. And here in the pit, all there is a single, hexagonal door. With a key card, and a scan, it opens for the commander and his followers form a tight square around him as he travels inward. Inside, it's almost unbearably cold. Like a walk in freezer.

The rooms walls take the beehive motif to an extreme, being made up of what has to be hundreds of them. In the center, a woman reclines in her chair with a intense look of concentration on her face. She's looking over the edge of some kind of pool, or maybe it's more like a bathtub? Either way, it's full of some strange, golden liquid. It shimmers in the light unlike anything you've ever seen before.

"Queen." The commander says, kneeling, and offering up the canister of Royal Jelly.

She doesn't even look at him, she just takes it from his hands, seemingly unbothered by the temperature. "She's not taking to the plasma. The poor girl."

There's someone in there? You hazard a look by creeping up the walls in dust form. And sure enough, there is someone submerged in the liquid. Nora Fries. You found her. But now you've got several other problems.

"Should we proceed as planned in regards to Fries, ma'am?" The commander asks, sounding hesitant to even speak. The guards around him haven't moved a muscles since he gave her the jelly.

She scoops up some of the plasma, spreading it between her fingers, her eyes light up when she does. "Indeed. Sionis is a blunt instrument at best, I should've known better, truly. Retrieve Fries from Arkham, tell him we wish to reunite him with his beloved. That should be all the motivation he needs. And do NOT release any of those other degenerates."

The commander nods. "Yes Queen, it shall be done." He makes to leave the chamber. And his guard detail don't follow, just as the doors start to close, you see his shoulders slump in relief.

There's an urge to duck out while you can still make a clean get away, but your curiosity gets the best of your caution. And you end up staying right where you are. You cling to the honeycomb surface of the wall, pondering you next move. You'd like to give Robin a status update. But you're afraid they might catch your outgoing signal and make you. You don't know that'd you'd be able to get away intact like this.

Meanwhile, Queen just sort of lounges next the pool of plasma, observing Nora Fries. You know she was on ice to halt her terminal illness. Must be why the room is so damn cold. But you don't think Queen would care either way. The woman with golden blonde hair is a mystery to you. You didn't even think HIVE had a real leader. You imagined it had several big cheeses calling the shots, not one monarch. And did she come up with the their gimmick?

Or maybe she's just following a formula. No one even really knows how long HIVE has been around. You wish you could pick this lady's brain. You're brought out of your thoughts when the odd headdress Queen is wearing flashes and the silent and still guards around her stir. They form a diamond formation around her and ready their rifles. Probably energy projecting, now that you take a closer look.

Then Queen starts to move again. She takes the canister of Royal Jelly, and connects it to what appears to be a intravenous system in her suit. As the glowing liquid fills the lines of her suit she sighs in what you have to assume is some sick satisfaction. And her eyes shimmer again. What's the difference between that and the plasma? What's the plasma supposed to do?

"Currently, it's supposed to promote accelerated healing in her cells."

You nearly jump out of your skin when she speaks. Her silky smooth voice reminds you of Poison Ivy. You stare at her from your hiding spot on the wall, but she looks directly at you. "Please, no need to be overly cautious."

Son of a bitch. You need to be ready to fight. but you'd rather get away without one. "What gave me away?"

"Nothing but your thoughts." She taps the side of her head. "I sensed you as soon as you entered. You'll want to work on telepathic shielding. It doesn't take anything special to do so, just discipline. Though I suppose that could be a rarity."

Your heart is racing and she hasn't even moved from her seat yet. And her little soldiers haven't moved a muscle either. Though you get the feeling that could change anytime. "So why aren't you trying to kill or capture me yet?"

"Hmm. I wonder?" She says coyly, turning her attention back to Nora. "Your mind is so inquisitive. I simply thought you might want some answers."

Whether or not she'll actually give them is still up in the air.

This conversation could go sour at any goddamn moment. But you've already been made. And if she's actually willing to answer a few questions... well, let's just say you don't plan on getting captured so it'd be nice to not leave this hole empty handed. "Alright, let's talk then. First off, what use is Nora Fries to you? And I hope you don't expect me to buy that you want to help her outta this goodness of your heart."

She chuckles, amused by something. "Guilty!" She says with one hand up, being far more playful than you would've expected. "Call it, a professional curiosity. What is a scientist, but someone who solves puzzles. And what's more alluring for someone like that, than a seemingly unsolvable puzzle? I do believe that's something you could sympathize with. I do admit however, that she lined up with my goals rather well."

"And what, is part of that is getting Dr.Fries to owe you? If you knew I was here, than you know I heard about your prison break plan." If you can get a straight answer out of her on this one, it should help in keeping Freeze right where he is.

"Ah. Yes and no. I told you I had a bit of a personal interest in Nora's case. It would indeed assist in getting the good doctor to cooperate but it's not integral. Hows that? Was that satisfactory?"

Sure. No mention of the prison break. Fine. You'll have to make due. "Not quite. I need to know what this plasma is."

"The heart of the matter hmm?" The plasma on her fingers absorbs into her hand. "Well, I suppose the simplest way to describe it would be to call it a nano-tech medium."

No fucking way. "Like programmable matter? You serious?"

She laughs. "No no, nothing of the sort. It's a mere tool, a versatile one. The royal jelly however, is something else entirely. It's my own personal project. It's a mixture of plasma and another key ingredient. It keeps me young!"

You cross your arms, finding yourself getting impatient. "You were never gonna answer me honestly huh? Should've expected as much."

She tuts. "On the contrary, I've told you nothing but the truth. You'll excuse me if I do not divulge all of my secrets to you now. Where's the fun in that?"

Your fists ball up at her implication, this is a game for her? "So this is fun for you? Should've known the mastermind of HIVE would be a freak."

"Oh I know you didn't come all this way to insult me. You came down here at great risk to yourself. More risk than what a rookie like yourself should undertake. Why is that?" She finally stands, actually, she floats off the ground. Making you take a step back on instinct. "You came for her correct? Well I will not let you have her. She's still important to me."

Options run through your head a mile a minute but it seems like in the end, you're gonna have to make a break for it. "So what happens now?"

She manages to look almost perplexed at your question. "Now? We go our separate ways. This little chat has been enlightening. I do hope we can do it again. I've had my eye on you, you know."

You don't respond. You can't.

"Don't be so surprised. The Teen Titans have been a thorn in my side before you appeared. And when you did, what an entrance! I believe you have what it takes to best my last pet project. I think I would've gotten to see the outcome of that battle if Mr.Slade hadn't broken his word." Quickly, she darts across the room, faster than you can react. "I'll tell you a secret. Slade no doubt told you that he received a contract on your lives correct? Not true. I hired him for one purpose. To bring you to me."

"Bullshit. If you went through that much trouble, then why let me go now?"

She leans back again. Thankfully floating out of your comfort zone. "By now, you must have deduced that I have a special interest in metahumans. Hmm? And you are a rare case. I could tell just by watching you. Your abilities are extraordinary. Once I saw how you were growing, I decided not to pin you to the inside of some glass case. You must be allowed to flourish."

"Why should I believe any of this?! Why would Slade lie like that?!" Your frustration is bubbling over.

"You shouldn't believe me because I'm trustworthy. You should believe me because it makes more sense than the current narrative. Slade Wilson, is a man that serves only himself. Why would he do anything to protect HIVE? I'd like to know myself." She sits back down and as soon as she does, her guards finally move, and form a diamond shape around you. Same as with the commander, their weapons aren't on you though. "You should be on your way. You have a busy night ahead of you. You will not be harmed or stopped, simply allow my guard to escort you."

There's bravery and there's stupidity. We're surrounded by armed guards, and she's clearly a telepath of some variety, along with having impressive physical ability. Even if we've shown some resistance to them that was only because we critically succeeded, and we have no actual countermeasures against them. Even if we somehow manage to best all these guards, we've still got to slip a comatose woman in a highly unstable medical condition out of a facility crawling with armed guards and led by Firefly, who will likely have been alerted, and will probably lock down and comb the facility looking for us. It's just not feasible, not right now. We can pull it off when we come back, better prepared then we are right now.

Part of you really just wants to chance it. Try and take her and her stupid drones down, take Nora out of here. Fries has already proven to you that he's not a monster. He doesn't deserve this. And his wife sure as hell doesn't You're pretty sure you could take the guards. They're probably more organized under her control but you've fought worse.

But then there's her, you know nothing about her except the fact that she's powerful. And if by some dumb fucking luck that you win the fight, what then? Carry the medically unstable hostage on your shoulders back to the surface? Through dozens more HIVE guards. No. This just isn't the time. You do your best to swallow your frustration and look her in the eye. "Don't get used to having Nora around, I'll be back for her."

"Oh I'm sure you will. You wouldn't be a very good hero if you weren't." Her golden eyes flash again, and her guards start to move you out, they aren't being forceful, but they also aren't being gentle either.

"One more thing! Does your contract with Slade still stand?"

To your disbelief she actually laughs. "You're quite good at asking the right questions. It is. But he is also free to ignore it as long as he wishes. But the real question is..."

"Why?" You say aloud, more to the empty air than to Queen or yourself.

"Why indeed." Are her last words to you as the guards force you out of her chamber and begin taking you upward. You're a bit lost in your thoughts as you head back to the surface. This freakshow has had her eye on you since the first raid? That was months ago. And all this time, you could've been snatched up by Slade? You're not stubborn enough to think you could take him on alone.

What worries you more are two things. Why she suddenly decided it's best for you to be out and about. She implied she's grooming your for something. And she mentioned something about a pet project? Then there's Slade. She's absolutely right about him. Why would a guy that kills people for a living, one of the best in the world. Suddenly decide not do his job. And hide why he's doing so under a threat? Ugh! It's too much to piece together now. You're still missing info.

Your train of thought is popped like a bubble when you take notice of your surroundings though. The facility. It's empty. You haven't passed any guards, workers, scientists. It's dead quiet in here. When you're escorted back to the storage area, you can't believe what you're seeing. All of those containers. Gone. Not a soul around. You were down there for half an hour, tops. And it's all fucking gone. But you know where they went.

And of course, the drones escorting you have nothing to say on the matter, and take you to an area separate from the freight elevator dock you snuck in through. It's a tunnel. An access tunnel. The drones line up, two on each side of the hatch and open it. Then they stand there again. Presumably waiting for you to make your exit. Giving them one last uneasy look, you leave through the tunnel, there's nothing left for you down here.

-----

As soon as you get near the surface again, Robin begins to hail you on comms. You answer immediately. "Ghost! I thought something happened! I got your message about the HIVE base but then your signal went dark."

You partially disperse and climb a nearby ladder in half the time in your reduced weight. You can smell water. Salt water. You're all the way out by the docks? "Yeah. They probably had some kind of jammer. Listen. HIVEs gone, but I know where they're going next. Arkham."

"What? Why?"

"They want Mister Freeze, dunno why. Not yet. But the have his wife. He'll probably go with em willingly at this rate." You grapple up one last ladder and disperse to fly through the edges of a manhole. Reappearing on the surface. You see the ocean before anything else. Huh, you remember this place. This is where Sionis was keeping Solomon Grundy. Memories.

"I'll relay it to Batman, but we can only be in one place."

"Whaddya mean?"

"There's a deal going on tonight. The Black & Whites are having a meeting. And trust me, it doesn't happen often." You grapple onto a nearby building a get a feel for your surroundings. You're real far from Arkham now.

"The fucking what?"

"The Black & Whites. Black Mask, Penguin, and Great White Shark. Self proclaimed kingpins of Gotham's organized crime. Bats beat the meeting time and location out of one of Sionis' top dogs earlier. We were supposed to go, since it's more than likely linked to all of Black Mask's activity lately. But honestly, making sure noone escapes Arkham will take take up all of Batman's attention."

Godammit. Just when you thought you'd be able to close Nora's case. She's just getting further away! "Where are they meeting up?"

Your friend doesn't answer for a moment. "Hey man, if you're going after them. I'm coming with you. Batman has managed just fine without Robin for a quite a while. But then again, we could use the help containing the breakout."

Thinking about how useless you were back in HIVE's base makes this decision easy. "I'm going after the Black & Whites then. This bullshit ends tonight."

"I'm serious Morgan, wait for me. You shouldn't tackle them alone. Even with powers like yours." Robin sounds worried. He thinks you might seriously run off on your own.

"Fine you can tag along, we need a meeting spot."You survey the streets like you're on patrol. It's eerily quiet. You realize it's gotta have something to do with this meeting. Every two bit thug and gang banger out there is under the thumb of one of those three. And just for tonight. They don't bother each other. How touching.

"Alright, I'll send you a waypoint. It's a little far out. As to be on neutral ground."

Oh, surprise surprise. The criminal alliance isn't built on trust. "Okay, Ghost out. I've got some distance to cover."

-----

The location you end up in is a shock to you. You've been doing the hero thing in Gotham for almost a year, and where do criminals usually gather? Dark, hidden places. Creaky old abandoned shells of buildings. Pitch black alleyways and empty plots of undeveloped land. Places where they can hide, scurry about and conduct their shady business uninterrupted.

>Continued

>>2814876
But this, this is nothing like you've seen so far. The meeting is being conducted in a mansion. Far off on the west side of Gotham, but not too far as to be the only thing out there. It's size is impressive, but is still put to shame by Wayne manor. Guards are patrolling outside, but not the usual suited gorillas they normally have. These guys are pros, and act like it. Regular checks over radios, clean and powerful guns. Tight patrols. Dogs. Spotlights. The works.

You're squatting on a thick tree branch in the tree line just outside the property, looking for your in. Navigating the mansion should be easy enough for you once you get inside. You're worried about your more solid friend. The whisper of a grapnel alerts you to his presence. Speak of the devil. Robin arrives and picks a branch near you, pulling a set of micro binoculars from his utility belt.

"Huh. They really went all out. Welp, it is a special occasion." He passes the binoculars to you so you can get a closer look. "See our entry point yet?"

"I've got entry points all over this thing. You on the other hand. Not so much." You turn your attention to the path over to the back of the mansion. The patrols seem to be lightest there. You might be able to slip in through the back unnoticed. You pass back the binocs and Robin only takes a second more to find his opening.

"Attic. I'd bet money they don't lock that window. What're you thinking?"

"Back entrance, in through the creases of the door, and into the vents before they know it."

"You sure? We could go together, watch each others backs. But then again, it'd be easier to stay hidden apart."

>"Yeah, I'll go it alone. We'll find the three musketeers and decide what to do from there."
>"Nah, we should probably head in together. Like you said, watch each other's backs."

We need a way to hide our mind though. Defending it is all well and good, but as long as psychic’s can feel our mind they can detect us no matter how hard we try to hide, like the Queen.

I wonder if it will even be possible to mask our psionic footprint while being vapourised. After all our consciousness has to go somewhere, maybe losing material structure increases our psionic presence? Maybe shielding our mind in such state would hamper our perception of outside world?

"Yeah man, I'll go it alone. I'm gettin pretty good at shit y'know?" You begin to disperse, leaving only your upper body as Robin picks his angle of infiltration.

"Yeah yeah, I'd be a show off to if I could turn to dust whenever I felt like it." With a cheeky grin, Robin grapples onto one of the nearby spotlights from the back side, leaping off of it as soon as he touches down and then gliding with his cape the short distance left to the attic window. He checks the latch, and bam. He's in. He flashes a thumbs up before climbing in silently. like a pro.

Your turn. You grapple the same way he did, but in your light state, you go flying over the mansion with your momentum intact. Once you reach the back end, you reform your body and slow down just in time to perch on the roof. A couple guards but not much else. There's about ten seconds when noone is watching the door. And that, is your in.

You drop down without a sound after the patrol starts to rotate again. Landing gingerly on the wet grass near the back door. Speaking of the back door. It's a thick steel door with a big bar keeping it shut. You'd need high explosives to get through this if you were solid. Nearly laughing, you funnel in through the key hole, and end up on the other side in no time. Your smoky form spills onto the floor.

It seems there's a large kitchen area back here. And the cooks are hard at work. Dinner before business? They're all so busy in fact, that you slip through on the floor completely unnoticed. And once you reach a vent situated at floor level, your as good as gone. Of course, it's impossible to tell where you're going in this kind of space. All you've really got are your cardinal directions.

Not sure what to do, you go looking for an empty room to get your bearings and contact Robin. IN no time at all, you run into some kind of parlor. Here, there's all manner of what you assume to be guests milling about. From your limited view in the vent, you can still easily tell they're all criminals of some kind. They look like they've been invited. Well dressed, but still shady or thuggish in some way.

>Continued
>>
>>2818184

Moving on, you vent crawl takes you somewhere you can hear before you even get close. It's sounds like... birds? The vent you arrive at is larger this time, enough for a person on the smaller side to get through but there's a mesh gate attached. Probably to keep the feathered tenants out. It's an aviary of some kind. There are dozens of birdcages, big and small. All over the place. It's something else.

And despite your assumptions, the room filled with screaming animals does indeed have people in it. Looks like caretakers. For the birds, clearly. Seeing no reason to linger, you move on yet again and finally find what you were looking for. An empty room. You cautiously exit the vent take in your surroundings. You don't know if there's a name for this kind of room, but it's a room every haunted mansion has.

There's fine examples of taxidermy all over the room, to lowly raccoons and squirrels to bobcats, bears, and even a moose. The walls are lined, from top to bottom with masks, from what looks like all kinds of cultures. You feel nearly sick being at the center of all this. WHile the last place you want to stop, you don't really have a choice. You hail Robin over comms, fingers crossed. "Ghost. I assume you made it in no problem?"

"I'm in alright, and I'm in the single creepiest room in Gotham." You lighten your step to avoid someone hearing you walk around and lock the door to the room to be safe.

"No. Trust me. You haven't seen anything yet. You stay here long enough, you'll see what I mean." As you take another look around the room. You kind of hope you won't have to.

"So, you see the party downstairs? Then there's a whole service staff here too. No shortage of civvies to make this more complicated." You lean back in one of the antique chairs sitting around, prop your feet up.

"And the vip list is just full of class acts. The biggest gun runners, drug pushers and general scumbags in Gotham are here. And they answer to the Black & Whites."

"They seemed like they were waiting. Guess the actual meeting ain't started yet. Good for us." You can't help but be disgusted. It's not like supercrime is any better. But these kinds of assholes keep mundane evil alive. Drugs, weapons, any kind of human misery is for sale. You've got a a fire in you tonight. "When I'm through with those three they're gonna wish Batman was here."

>Do you plan special encounters or training montages or we go anime and power-up mid battle?

Good question, actually. I'm not sure yet. Hellborn Quest had a way of making the new powers seem really natural. Whether it was during downtime or in the middle of a fight. And by the way, mid fight power ups aren't exclusive to anime y'know. Western comics are just as guilty. Whether or not I'll actually do it? Who knows? Maybe if I can write it without it coming off as cheap.

But putting that aside, it's time to cast your write-up votes!
