You are the TEMPLAR, a holy knight sent to clear the frontier of monsters and heresy!

Now with Solaire back, it was the perfect opportunity for the leaders of the Paladins and Black Templars to meet in resolve any lingering differences over the situation in the Frontier. Lucina was more than glad to host and mediate this meeting. The Mages and attendant Mage Knights, however, opted to attend in an observer role only. It appeared they weren't overly concerned about the situation with the Elves, apparently. A big mistake in your opinion.

Meanwhile, you were given the two options of what you and party could do. Helbrecht would of course be attending he meeting, his presence was pretty much required. Ozen, however, couldn't care less about the diplomacy, instead planning on leading another expedition to root out the Elves' hiding place.

Havel, meanwhile, was a bit torn. He wanted to personally attend the meeting in order to observe the events and represent the Frontier's interests, but he also wanted to rein in Ozen if it became necessary. Obviously, he had also expressed that you and your party could easily substitute for him in either capacity, which would put his mind at ease.

Ultimately, you decided to...

You had decided to attending the meeting between Helbrecht and Solaire. It would certainly be the rare sight. Though the two men knew each other personally, you couldn't remember any time in recent memory where they both met each other in person.

And it seemed like the rest of they city was catching on to it, too. The streets were packed with adventurers and spectators who have all come to witness the spectacle. With the Templars having to come in from outside the city, naturally they would be marching in as a show of force, to remind both their enemies and those they swore to protect of the strength of the Templars. As such, Helbrecht's personal guard with their more battleworn and intricate armor would me marching alongside, carrying the order's ancient war banners, black and white crosses fluttering in the wind.

As part of the Templars, you were obligated to be part of Helbrecht's retinue as well. For you party, though, you wondered if it would be permissible for them to march alongside you. While they were trusted comrades, they weren't actually Templars.

While you had pride for your party, having them appear could cause complications. You could make the other Templars uncomfortable or annoyed at you. It could paint larger targets on your companions' backs. Besides, it was easy enough to send them off to the palace ahead of time...

As a precaution, you had them head for the palace first. After all, they would stand out in this situation.

Amazingly enough, you had the honor of marching alongside Helbrecht himself at the head of the procession. To say it was an honor to literally be at the High Marshal's side was a bit of an understatement.

The procession itself, though, was completely silent. No voices, no barked orders, no marching songs of any kind. Every Templar knew their place and didn't need to be reminded of it, so the procession of one hundred Templars marched in perfect unison without a single word uttered.

However, it wasn't your fellow Templars you were focused on. Your gaze swept across the gathered crowd on the sides of the street, kept at a safe distance thanks to the City Guard. It was a whole mix of cheers, jeers, shouts, and the occasional rotten vegetable. At least they weren't angry enough to throw edible ones.

The march proceeds without any issues, the crowd smartly deciding not to do anything to provoke you or your fellow Templars. Even if you were in parade formation, you were all prepared to fight in an instant if it came down to it.

The palace gates were just as large and grand as you remembered them. Lucina was present at the front, ready to greet you. The Paladins and Mages were already present as well, already gathered father back inside the castle itself.

"Your highness." Helbrecht gives a respectful bow to Lucina.

"High Marshal." Lucina returns the polite bow with one of her own. "Preparations are still being made, so I'll have to ask that you wait just a little longer."

"It makes no difference to me." Helbrecht says sternly as he stands at attention. The rest of his retinue follows suit.

You look around and see all of the important figures of the palace, Paladins, and Mages mingling freely with each other. Helbrecht and the retinue made no effort to approach any of them. You figure that if anybody REALLY wanted to talk to them, they'd approach Helbrecht. It made sense, honestly, Helbrecht you heard was never one for unnecessary words.

"Well? What are you doing standing around here?" Helbrecht grumbles quietly to you. "You have better things to do than stand around, don't you?"

You pause at Helbrecht's words and gaze at the gathered guests. You could immediately see Janice and Artya harassing Nino and Romulus with hugs and pettings. Niko and her sister Misono seemed to be trying to teach Valentia some of their sleight of hand tricks, while Solana was doting on a completely embarrassed Naru. Finally, you caught sight of Morgan whispering something in Elias' ear. What business did she have with the Archmage?

You meander over to where Naru and Solana were. Solana seemed to have Naru in a tight grapple hold from behind, preventing her from being able to move or escape. You had to admit, Solana's technique was flawless, and Naru couldn't extricated herself no matter how hard she struggled.

Solana still seemed to be in a her generally good natured mood, while Naru was letting loose a string of curses.

However, the two of the them had their backs turned to you, so they wouldn't be immediately aware of your approach. That gave you options for what to do...

You admit, you were a bit curious about what the two clerics could be talking about. You always found the relationship between Solana and Naru rather odd. How could one of the head priestesses of the church have such an intimate friendship with a self-admitted disgraced cleric?

Still, given how Naru tries to avoid Solana as much as possible, seeing them together was a rather area occasion. You try to sneak a little bit closer to them...

You just shrug and rap a fist against your chest plate, causing a loud ringing sound. You couldn't sneak around in this heavy armor, even if you wanted to.

"Don't you FUCKING DAAAARE!" Naru whines a she tries to wriggle out of Solana's grip.

"Templar, wouln't you think Naru would make a wonderful mother?" Solana says with a giddiness you usually only saw in young children.

You just turn and point to Nino, who was still getting doted on by Janice. Naru was already pretty much a mother, considering keeping an eye on the troublesome little mage was practically a full time effort.

"Oh my... oh my." Solana's gasp quickly transitions into a giddy smile. "Oh this makes so much sense! No wonder my instincts were going off!"

"How about you GET OFF!" Naru wails, her cheeks blushing.

"But you haven't made it official yet, have you?" Solana wonders. "If that's the case, she'd still be considered a ward of the Mage Guild, which would be rather troublesome..."

"Wait, are you saying we should ADOPT Nino?" Naru croaks. "T-that's crazy! It'll never work!"

You just shrug. You honestly were not sure if this was something to pursue. But, if Solana was insistent enough on it, she was free to pursue it.

"Hm, well, I suppose it's not the best time to be talking about such things." Solana laughs. "I think Naru has enough on her plate right now!"

"And you're not helping!" Naru wails.

However, you're all interrupted when the great set of double doors leading to the meeting hall swing open, and what looks to be Lucina's majordomo strides out.

"The meeting shall commence shortly." The majordomo announces loudly yet calmly. "Will all invited parties please assemble."

"Well, you better be going along!" Solana says, giving you a light push towards the doors. "Please keep a close on on my husband and Vally, will you? Solaire can get rather passionate at times."

Yes, you were well aware of that. You nod and turn away.

"Wait!" Naru squeaks. "Don't leave me wit-"

Naru's voice is suddenly cut off. How, you weren't sure, as you didn't have the heart to turn back and look to see what Solana had done to your cleric.

Helbrecht is already at the door, waiting for you. Each main representative could bring a second with them. You were Helbrecht's second. If you recalled correctly, Valentia would be with Solaire, Janice and Artya would be there together, and you were fairly sure Lucina would be representing the kingdom herself. As for Elias, you weren't really sure who would be accompanying him.

"Are you ready?" Helbrecht asks simply, turning his iron gaze to you.

You nod and walk into the meeting hall alongside Helbrecht.

Up ahead, there was large, circular table with chairs set up for all of the assembled parties. Lucina naturally was at the opposite end of the table, directly across from you and Helbrecht. To your sides were the representatives of the Paladins, Mages, and the demihuman tribe.

You looked to Elias, and noted that he had brought Justine as his second. A wise choice. Justine was the more level headed half of the Twins. It was the first time you've actually seen them apart, though.

However, you did notice something odd. It wasn't Artya accompanying Janice, but Morgan.

You simply stay put. The meeting was about to start, after all.

"I suppose we should get things started." Lucina says calmly, her eyes scanning all of the gathered attendees. "I'm sure all of us are familiar with each other at this point, so we'll skip the formalities and get straight to the point."

Lucina then snaps her fingers and the table begins to glow. A phantom projection of Eisenwand and the surrounding territories materializes in the center of the table. You forgot that Lucina had studied with the Mages and learned a spell or two from them.

"Solaire, can you please explain to me why an army of Paladins has marched down here without telling anybody?"

"Ah, well, it appears that my subordinates were a bit...eager to react to the Black Templar movements." Solaire explains. "Obviously, it's always a great concern when such a large, armed force from any faction is moving about with such speed and determination."

"I commend him for covering for his subordinates." Helbrecht mutters to you. "But there is a time and place for exercising discretion, but I suspect Solaire does not command as much respect in the Paladins as he used to."

Well, Helbrecht was certainly blunt in wondering out loud to you that Solaire may be unreliable as a force to keep the Paladins reined in.

You give a reluctant nod to Helbrecht's words. Solaire's heart was certainly in the right place, but the fact that he was spending most of his time adventuring in the Frontier rather than actually running the Paladins was a telling sign that the the order was capable of operating without his knowledge or authority. You quietly wonder if Solaire himself was realized this. Valentia's concerned look at her father seemed to indicate that she at the very least was acutely aware the problem. It made sense, since the first time you met her, she was in the middle of trying to find him on one of his many excursions.

"Well, despite the differences between our orders..." Solaire turns to you and Helbrecht. "I would still look forward to both our sides cooperating to ensure the safety of this wonderful kingdom."

Helbrecht is quiet for a moment, as if considering his options.

You knew that ideally, the Paladins would assist the Templars in the field, or focus on the defending the city so that more Templars could be freed up for frontline duty. But this would mean accepting and allowing potential enemies to be at your side or to your rear.

You look to Helbrecht and give him a slight, encouraging nod. If anything, Paladins could be trusted with protecting the general populace, and them staying behind in the city meant they wouldn't constantly be hounding the Templars or looking over their shoulders. That would be a good compromise.

"Then continue your protection of this fair city." Helbrecht rumbles. "Your order can do what it does best while ours can focus on what we do best."

"If that it is what you wish." Solaire nods. He then glances briefly at Valentia. "But would you at the very least accept an observer to accompany you? We Paladins do not like to be kept in the dark, after all."

You given approving nod and thumbs up. You had fought alongside Valentia long enough that you knew she could be a trusted companion.

"Very well. We will honor your request." Helbrecht says simply. "So the previous arrangement stands. The Paladins will take charge of the defense of the city while the Templars will be concerned with offensive operations."

"That's the idea." Solaire says in agreement.

:"And what of our new allies?" Helbrecht turns to Janice. "Will they be contributing to the war effort?"

"Well, we'd have to run a message back to our village which will take some time." Janice explains. "But rest assured, these Elves have been causing us trouble too, so we'll gladly help!"

"From what I've been told, your scouts would be invaluable in tracking the enemy." Helbrecht agrees. "But how long would we have to wait?"

You just look at Helbrecht, trusting that he knew the best course of action.

"We cannot afford to sit by and wait for your people to arrive." Helbrecht says in careful, measured words. "But I am not foolish enough to commit my full forces without intelligence, either. We will continue to send out skirmishing parties to pressure and maintain contact with the Elves. With any luck we will convince them of the foolish of their actions."

"And if they don't?" Solaire asks with a mixture of caution and curiosity.

"You know very well what tactics we would resort to." Helbrecht replies coldly and turns to Elias. "And you have been rather quiet all this time, Mage. Have you no words on this matter?"

"I'm merely here as an observer. The Mage Guild officially has no involvement in this matter." Elias replies simply, his eyes simmering softly."

"Hmph." Helbrecht grunts. He apparently was not surprised at that response.

"High Marshal." Lucina says calmly. "You may not approve of this idea, but I was wondering... my kingdom hosts many adventurers as you can see. While they aren't exactly soldiers, many of them have close ties to this city and I'm confident that I can convince them to help our cause."

"An army of irregulars, eh?" Helbrecht muses as he looks to you. "Well, Templar? You've been living among these people. What's your take on this?"

You nod at the suggestion. Any adventurer that signs up would be a valuable supporting force, especially for the small scale operations Helbrecht was envisioning in order to buy time until Janice's demihuman support arrived.

"I suppose that settles it." Helbrecht nods. "I trust that you would assume command of such a force, you highness."

"Of course." Lucina grins. "Don't worry, I'll make sure they don't get in your way."

"Thank you for your consideration." Helbrecht nods. "Will that be all?"

"Well, does anybody here have anything else to add?" Lucina wonders as she looks around the meeting hall. Nobody speaks up. "Then this meeting is adjourned. You are all dismissed."

"I will return to the Monastery to get an update on Ozen and Havel's efforts." Helbrecht informs you. "What shall you be doing?"

You approach Morgan, who sees you and stays behind. Both Janice and Helbrecht pause, but then continue on, deciding to leave the two of you to your devices.

Lucina looks at the two of you curiously, and Morgan gives her a grim look that seems to communicate to the princess that privacy was desired. Lucina immediately nods in understand and motions for her guards to follow her out. The doors to the great hall then swing shut, leaving you alone with Morgan in this cavernous room.

You cross your arms, intending for Morgan to explain herself.

"I've... been doing some snooping while you were off playing soldier." Morgan sighs.

You glance at the table. Something that involved Elias and Janice?

"I've been following up on those assassins and those Mage Knights that attacked us." Morgan grunts, a slightly displeased look on her face. "The fact that so many outsiders have been converging here isn't a coincidence. So I had Janice help sweep the forest and strong armed Elias into giving up more intel."

You give Morgan an approving nod, but at the same time slouch down a bit, depressed that Morgan didn't include you on all this.

"Sorry, you're not exactly subtle, you know?" Morgan grins as she raps a knuckle on your breastplate. "Besides, I think we're at the point where we're going to need some muscle, anyways."

You perk up at those words. Does that mean she has a lead?

"Well, it shouldn't be a surprise, but there's a couple of well placed nobles in the civilized territories that have been funneling money into the Frontier, and it isn't going into Eisenwand." Morgan crosses her arms. "I think Lucina's suspicions were correct, in that there's collusion among the inner kingdoms to force a confrontation between her and the Elves. Those assassins came at a very inconvenient time, when Paladins were marching into Eisenwand and Solaire was off in the wild. Those Mage Knights were out to recover Nino so badly that they were willing to fight us face to face. And here's our lead."

Morgan reaches into her pocket and takes out a tattered scroll. On it was what looked to be a map of a castle.

"Janice found it off the body of one of the assassins." Morgan explains. "No doubt an insurance policy in case they didn't get paid. It matches up to castle of one Baron Gilead Hotzendorf."

You return your gaze at Morgan. Was her intention to kill this man...?

"Do you have the problem?" Morgan raises an eyebrow. "If he's really one of the guys pulling the strings, getting rid of him gets rid of a lot of complications."

Hm, well, you DID have an idea or two that you could suggest to Morgan.

There was always the abandoned rampart you and Morgan spent the night at after the formal party, in the light of the burning forest. That spot held some special significance, at least to you.

Or, well, you should consider Morgan's feelings. Perhaps she'd like to meet at a secluded spot in the woods. You do remember that little hidden stream she liked to bathe and fish at.

Or hell, you could just throw caution to the wind and have Engel fly you both... somewhere. Anywhere.

Fortunately, the scene you see doesn't immediately involve lots of fire or destruction, so Nino wasn't using her magic haphazardly at least. However, at this point, it seemed that the majority of the attendees had already left. It seemed only Lucina and Solana had remained, with Solana still chatting up a reluctant Naru while Lucina was keeping watch on Nino in Naru's stead.

"Oh, Templar, you're finally finished!" Solana smiles. "You were in there alone with Morgan for a rather long time!"

"Heh, did ya get busy in there?" Niko chuckles.

"I hope not. That's a very expensive table." Lucina chimes in.

"Q-quit it!" Morgan wails as Romulus comes bounding in to her defense.

You can't help but admit the sight of Lucina carrying Nino around on her shoulders was extremely endearing. You just pat Nino on the head, your height still allowing you to reach that head.

"Ah, Templar, would you mind taking charge of Nino for a bit?" Solana says cheerfully as she basically picks up Naru. "I'm going to catch up with Naru for a while, so she'll be indisposed for the time being!"

"Help meeeeeeee...!" Naru croaks.

"Heh, I can keep an eye on her for you, if you want." Lucina suggests.

Meanwhile, Morgan has already slipped out of the area, no doubt to make her preparations. Niko was also gone, no doubt already roped into Morgan's plans. Romulus remained at your side, though.

You follow Lucina as she guides you through the vast halls of the palace, and you note how your little party was gaining elevation as you walked up what looked to be a large spiral staircase.

You look to Lucina curiously. What was so special about this place?

"Don't worry, you'll see." Lucina grins as she continues to usher you upward. Eventually, you come across a large, circular room, the roof being a large dome.

However, that wasn't the only thing you noticed. Above on the roof, you could see countless like twinkling, with small, ghostly apparitions of celestial bodies hanging in the sky like fruit.

"This is our observatory." Lucina says proudly. "We had it installed many years ago, to keep an eye on the celestial realm."

"Woooooooow." Nino gasps. "So you had this hidden here this whole time!"

"It's not hidden." Lucina rolls her eyes. "Just not mentioned much."

You just nod, impressed at the sight of the ghost sky above you. Such an enchantment must have taken a great deal of time and money to develop. Yet another sign of Lucina and her family's apparent wealth.

Nino at this point had leapt off of Lucina's shoulders and was now doing laps around the room, her gaze stuck to the ceiling.

"This is so cool!" She squeals. "Luci! What did your family need an observatory like this for?"

"Honestly? Probably just to show off." Lucina chuckles. "But I suppose it also ties into their fascination with magic. The Celestial Realm holds many secrets, after all."

You look at Lucina. Was that why she received Mage training?

"It was as much my parents' desire as mine." Lucina smiles warmly. "I suppose I had a boundless curiosity about magic when I was little."

You just give an encouraging nod to Lucina. Seemed like a healthy hobby to have.

"Um, Nino, what are you doing?" Lucina blinks as she glances the little mage, who was now projecting a magic circle around her.

"This spell looks really nice, but it's actually kinda amateur!" Nino explains as the spell circle begins to glow. "I just figured I'd improve it a little!"

"Erm... is that safe?" Lucina says as she glances to you. Poor girl, she didn't know.

"Of course it is!" Nino says confidently.

You don't do anything to stop Nino or the little ritual that was taking place. You were certain that Nino knew what she was doing.

At least, that was what you were hoping when the magical inscription begins glowing brighter and brighter...

>FATE POINT USED
>No fate points remain!

There's a flash of light, temporarily blinding you. When your vision finally clears up, through, you pause at what you see.

It looks like Nino had made her own little improvements to the observatory's enchantment. All of the stars and Celestial bodies were now actively moving and orbiting in the air, rather than just hanging in the sky like motionless lanterns. Every so often, a shooting star or comet would streak past, leaving a trail of glittering late in its wake.

"Beautiful..." Lucina gasps. "Thank you, NIno."

"Heh! No problem!" Nino puffs up with pride. "Just saw a few things I could tweak!"

However, all this stargazing reminded you of your promise to Morgan. You turn to Lucina and bow your head in deference to her.

"Oh, do you have to go now?" Lucina blinks. "Don't worry, I'll make sure to send Nino back to the Monastery."

"Hey! I wanna go with you!" Nino whines.

You shake your head vehemently. Nino was one of the LAST people you wanted walking in on you and Morgan. You just give her one more headpat before dashing off, motioning for Romulus to follow you.

You head for Morgan's secret spot while you send Romulus off to summon Morgan herself.

When you do reach the spot you find that...

You're apparently at the spot first, and it appears that you are alone here.

That is, until you feel something drop down on your back.

"You shouldn't let your guard down like that~." Morgan giggles as she whispers in your ear. "Don't you know predators like to prowl the forest at night?"

You just simply nod as Morgan practically tears your helmet off and tosses it aside. Looks like she wanted to take the lead tonight...

I'm more surprised that we haven't knocked her up yet considering this is around the third time we were intimate with her.

There's a lot of different possibilities ranging from mundane science to divine intervention.

Maybe it could take a bit more effort to conceive due to different genetics like crossbreeding a horse and a donkey to make a mule. Maybe Sol is pulling a Divine Miracle from his ass to make Templar shoot blanks, do a weird reverse Virgin Mary, or pull out on time because the future depends on the both Templar and Morgan to be on their A-game. Or maybe they just don't recognize premarital sex for their champions?
>>
>>2802026
Uh, how would we even know that? This is a setting with medieval technology, there's no pregnancy test unless there's some sort of spell for it. If there is, how would she know to get tested? Not every woman who gets pregnant goes through pregnancy sickness.

Also, most of the time, sex doesn't lead to pregnancy. Human females are only fertile for a few days in a 28 day cycle. And if she's closer to a wolf in terms of estrus cycle, that's only once a year in winter.
