War. War never changes.

When war lead to total atomic annihilation in 2077, for a time, it seemed civilization and humanity would never recover from that. But out of the ashes of the south-west Commonwealth, the New California Republic rose, rebuilding and offering hope for the future. Civilizations began to rise up along the west coast again.

Under President Tandi's leadership, the NCR thrived, growing along the west coast and peacefully incorporating many tribes and settlements into the republic. The New California Republic continued to expand, past the mess of radioactive sand-storms that was the mojave to build a settlement on Hoover Dam, intending to be the base for future expansion out into the Four-States Commonwealth.

But the east, far past the fringes of NCR territory, there were rumblings. In the ruins of Dallas, two Followers of the Apocalypes, a Mormon from New Canaan, and a tribe of primitive Vault Dwellers formed the Caesar's Legion, and began capturing all tribes in Texas, before heading west, aiming to conquer California.

Then, in 2248, Tandi died, and her replacement, Wendell Peterson ordered an immediate end to all NCR expansion, worried about brewing war with the Brotherhood of Steel. The NCR was in the process of withdrawing most of its troops back to the Hub when the Legion attacked the Dam. The settlement at Hoover Dam survived, and the Legion was driven off, but only barely. Now, the Four-States Commonwealth is truly a lawless frontier of the wasteland, with both the Legion and NCR withdrawing troops from the area, and the Brotherhood of Steel seemingly in hiding.

You somehow got in trouble with the law in the far reaches of the NCR near Primm. You were thrown into the NCR Correctional Facility, where you've spent the last month of your life. Innocent, guilty, it doesn't matter now. Life in the prison isn't so bad. You have a guaranteed meal, water, and a bed to sleep in, which is more than many people don't have in the wilderness. You might as well get used to the few luxuries you have in the correctional facility.

After all, you're a prisoner, and prisoners in the wasteland tend to remain prisoners.

I recently got done replaying Fallout 1 & 2, which got me thinking about Project Van Buren, or the original Fallout 3. So, after reading through the design documents for Van Buren, I realized I could make it into a quest, so here we are! This will use the intended Van Buren Special system, and generally try to be closer in tone to the original Fallouts than the Bethesda Fallouts, as well as closer to Fallout 2 than Fallout 1.

Alright, you are officially a Clever Boy! You never excelled at any one area too much, but you’re at least good at pretty much everything. You tend to be able to find a large variety of solutions to your problems. Now you need to select your three tag skills and, if you want, you can take up to two traits (Pic related).

This game takes place in 2253, which is 28 years before New Vegas. However, since New Vegas used a lot of concepts and characters from Van Buren in a different way, canon will be different from the canon in New Vegas.

I'll leave the vote open a little bit longer since this is fairly important.

You wake up to a loud buzzing sound, and you immediately realize you’re not where you fell asleep.

You’re still in a prison cell, that’s immediately obvious, but you’re definitely not in the same one you were in before. You look around, and nearly fall out of your bed once you realize you’re in a small bunk bed. The room seems to be a state of the art facility, with walls and furniture made entirely of sleek steel. Perhaps most unsettlingly though is that you aren’t alone.

The man in the bed below you is also getting up, when he stands up, he sees you, and jumps back, with a shout of “Hot damn!” seemingly as startled to see you as you are to see him. The man looks you up and down, “Holy shit, you just about gave me a heart attack.” You regard him cautiously, and he shrugs.

“Well, hey if you ain’t gonna kill me, we might as well get acquainted, since I don’t know how the hell to get outta this dump. I’m Benny.” Benny sits down at the small table in your cell, shuffling a deck of cards that was laying on the table. “Welcome to Cell-Block 13. This is Tibbets, I think we might be just about the only living people in this fancy pants robot prison. What’s your name, baby?”

“I’m Theseus.” You say, introducing yourself.

“Well, hey. Nice to meet ya, pal. To be honest, it’s just good to have someone to talk to. I’ve been locked up in this place for damn near a month now. You wanna know what the worst part about an automated prison is? It’s that there’s nobody around to fuckin’ talk to!” Benny sighs, as he shuffles his cards. You stand up to get a better look at the cell you’re locked up in, climbing down from the bed.

This place is far too clean and sterile for anything useful to be here, and there didn’t seem to be any way out. The only door was clearly sealed shut with state of the art technology, and other than that the room seemed pretty sealed.

You’re stumped, so you sit down at the small table, across from Benny.

Your cellmate looks up from his cards at you, cracking a smile. “Hey, don’t let me get ya down, amigo, this place ain’t all bad. At least the guards feed us on time.”

“You said this place was called Tibbets - what do you know about it?”

Benny shrugs, “Not all that much. I just woke up here one day, same as you, I’m guessin’. One day I was livin’ it up in New Reno, and the next, I’m in this fuckin’ cell. I think just about everything in here is run by those robots. They seem like they’ve got some impressive hardware, so I haven’t tried any funny business, dig? I dunno if there’s any other living, breathing people out in this prison except for us, I haven’t been able to get out of this damn cell.”

You blink, “So you were free before coming here?”

Benny shrugs, rubbing the back of his head. “Well, sort of. But that’s not really that important, is it? We’re stuck here unless we figure some way out of here.”

Benny clearly doesn’t want to answer questions about his past, and was clearly desperate to change the topic so you decide not to push it at the moment. You open your mouth to speak, but find yourself distracted by something. The familiar sound of gunfire, off in the distance is evident, it almost sounds as if someone is shooting at Tibbets. Soon after, a large explosion is heard, and all the lights turn red.

A staticky robotic voice is heard throughout the prison, “System critical failures. Cell doors malfunctioning. The Tibbets Facility is now on high alert!”

Sure enough, the door to your cell is open, only to reveal what seems to be one of the Guard Bots Benny was talking about earlier, albeit heavily damaged, standing just outside your cell. “Attempted escapees detected: Termination Imminent.”

You and Benny lock eyes, and it’s clear you only have a few seconds to act before the Guard Bot lights up the Cell Room.

[70: Success!]

You've had some experience with the mechanics of robots, although never ones of this specific design. Still, it's not hard to figure out. You quickly close the distance between you and the robot, doing your best to find a way to disable or deactivate itt. Once you've gotten the machines back-panel off, it's a trivial matter to just shut the Guard Bot down, granting you and Benny your freedom.

"Oh man, that was one scary lookin' robot. Good job dealing with it. Now let's get the hell out of here before some more come over and turn us into swiss cheese."

As you step out into the main Cell Block, you can see a variety of patrollin guard bots, all of whom must have been damaged in the blast. You see a sign pointing to the Armory, and another human prisoner on the floor below you. An absolute monster of a man, the prisoner was bare-handedly ripping his way through Guard Bots, searching for an exit.

You look at the robot, you can scavenge some of its parts if you wanted to, but it would take time, and like Benny said, the clock is ticking, and you need a gameplan.

The other prisoner looks more than capable of defending himself, and since neither you or Benny have any weapons, he seems like the best choice for getting you out of there.

You head down the stairs of the metallic walkway, luckily it seems the other prisoner already cleared out several of the guard bots, as mauled, broken remains of guard bots litter the catwalk.

As you approach the man, you get a better look at him. He's wearing the same jumpsuit that both you and Benny are wearing, blue with a golden 13 on the back. At first, from afar you thought he might have been a supermutant, but as you get closer you're surprised to find he's actually human, just a giant, hulking one.

You catch up to him just as he finishes tearing one of the robots in two. He turns to look at you, and his gaze is enough to terrify just about anyone. You can tell Benny seems pretty close to pissing himself right there.

"What you want?" The hulking man grunted. He clearly wasn't the intellectual type, but you might be able to use that to your advantage.

"We're just looking for your help. I'm Theseus, this is Benny. We're friends." You say calmly, making sure he's following and understanding your words.

"Help? How Max help?"

“We need your help to get out of here and get to the armory. You're the only person that can help us."

Max cracks a big grin at that. You were able to correctly read that appealing to his ego would be the right way to deal with this giant of the man. He stands a little taller, puffs his chest out a bit and smirks. Somehow, seeing his rotted, partially missing teeth makes his face even harder to look at, but he walks forward with a bit of swagger.

“Pretty boy need Max Stone’s help? Max helps, ‘cause Max good guy!”

You and Benny walk behind Max Stone, although before long he stops, and asks for directions. You point him towards the armory sign and before long, you’re moving again. Max is an impressively efficient robot killing machine. His natural strength and endurance make him able to simply run up and rip these damaged robots to pieces.

Even if you wanted to help out Max, he pretty much seemed to have everything handled, and before long he’d torn through the robots guarding the armory. The armory door, just like the doors to your cells, was left wide open.

You and Benny enter the room first, with Max entering behind you. The armory is stocked with various kinds of weaponry, from guns to electro-batons to explosives.

Benny quickly grabs a pistol for himself, clutching it close to his chest. “Ring-a-ding-ding, baby. It feels good to be packin’ heat again!” He cheers, as you look over the array of weaponry available to you.

You pick up the laser pistol, hefting it and trying it out. It feels good in your hand, and the warm pulsing the gun gives off is oddly satisfying to hold.

Now equipped with weaponry, the three of you leave the armory. Now, running back the way you came, you pass by your old cell on the way towards the exit.

You don't come across any more guard bots to test your new weapon out on, until you reach the door to leave the cellblock. The door has a large hole blown in it, presumably the results of the large explosion you heard earlier.

However, it won't be as easy as simply walking out the door to escape, as standing in the way is a state of the art robot, surrounded by standard guard bots. "Halt prisoners!" the Warden Bot barks, holding it's shield arm out in front of him and levelling its gun towards you.

You step forward, thinking fast and trying to talk your way out of this situation.

"Hey, hold on!" you say, with your hands up. "We aren't prisoners, we're maintenance workers. Your sensors must have gotten damaged in the attack. If you'll just let me..."

You're cut off by the warden bot. "Self-diagnostic shows my sensor systems are fully functional. Prepare to die, criminal scum."

With that, the warden but shoots at you. You're barely able to avoid his laser fire, as you rush to find a safe place. Once you've gotten behind a toppled over desk to defend yourself, you see Benny has also found cover behind a pilllar, where he takes a few potshots at the Warden Bot, not damaging it very much.

Max, meanwhile charged at the bot, pummeling it with powerful blows, but even Max Stone wasn't able to get past the armor of the Warden Bot, and he takes a laser shot directly to the stomach.

[97: Success!]

You look over the Warden Bot, scanning for weaknesses in its armor. The bot is in slightly better shape than most of the Guard Bots you've come across, as this one has significantly tougher armor. However, even this advanced robot didn't escape the blast unscathed, as you can see theh chassis protecting its power core is damaged, making it the perfect target.

You take careful aim and unload into the robot's midsection, your laser pistol cutting through the remnants of robotic armor like a hot knife through butter.

As you fire into the power core, the robot's mid-section begins to glow. The Warden Bot looks down at his glowing, reactive power core, just before it explodes, sending shrapnel and pieces of Warden Bot across the room.

With the room clear, you approach the crumpled form of Max Stone on the floor. Unfortunately, the bigger prisoner took a very bad shot straight to his torso from the Warden Bot, and you were pretty sure he wasn't going to be getting up from that.

You walk out of the prison, and for the first time in a long time, you're actually a free man. You spend a few moments enjoying the hot sun bearing down on you, before Benny's voice snaps you back to reality.

"Hey, baby. That was some real good work dealing with that robot bastard. Shame about the big fella, though. That guy could've been helpful. Thing is, though. I think we make a good time. How about it, wanna partner up? We're both lost out here, right?"

You consider Benny for a few moments. He wasn't exactly a ton of help getting you out of the prison, but he does have a good point. You have absolutely no idea where you are, and travelling the wasteland lost and alone was a very easy way to get yourself shot.

So, you nod. "Sure, let's travel together."

Benny grins, "Ring-a-ding-ding! You an' me are gonna make it far."

You look over the vast stretch of land around you. You're certainly not in California anymore, that's for sure. Luckily, to the north you spy what looks like a large fort. At the very least, it could be shelter. If you're lucky, it might be some sort of civilization, somewhere you can regroup and figure out where to go next. If you're unlucky, it could be the base of some group of vicious, cannibalistic raiders or something.

On the other hand, to the south all you can see is a seemingly endless stretch of desert. It might be safer, and keep you from coming across any raiders, but who knows what wildlife live out in the desert, and since you don't have any source of food or water, you might not even make it to shelter if you go that way.

Sorry for updating so infrequently. I was intending to only run over the weekend and get much further than we did, but I was way more busy than I thought I'd be. Don't worry, I won't abandon this quest. I hate when people flake on their quests, and I have over 100 pages of notes I've written in preparation for this quest.

You turn to Benny, pointing out the fort on the horizon. He looks over at it, and then whistles.

"Well, I'll be damned. You've got one hell of an eye, baby." Benny says, grinning as he stares out towards the Fort.

You shrug, "I guess. You think it's safe? We can always head through the desert instead. Might be safer that way."

Benny laughs. "Do I think it's safe? Pal, I think that's Fort fuckin' Aradesh. It was supposed to be the trading hub for Tandi's Eastern Expansion. When the NCR pulled out, Aradesh was left as their furthest fort on the frontier..." Benny suddenly jumps for joy, "That means, I know where we are! We're in fuckin' Arizona!"

His face dims after he realizes the implication of your location. You being out past NCR territory is one thing, but out in the frontier in the four-states? Most people that went past Hoover Dam didn't come back.

"Let's head over there now. Maybe those NCR boys can help us get the hell out of here?"

You nod, and the two of you start the trek towards the fort in the distance.

As you walk, Benny starts to whistle, but quickly gets bored of the song and eventually turns to you. "You don't talk all that much, do you?"

You shrug, "Maybe you talk too much, Benny." You're not exactly mute, you're just not exactly in a talkative mood, seeing as the two of you just escaped from a high tech robot prison you have no idea why you were in. Benny just laughs in response.

Still, you decide it'd probably be a good idea to get to know your companion a little better.

A lot of those notes come from the original Van Buren design documents and me figuring out canonical issues.

"Where are you from, Benny?" you ask, deciding you might as well get to know him better. It's not like you have anything better to do while walking towards this fort.

Benny shuts up for once, and at first you aren't sure whether or not he's going to answer. Despite that, eventually, Benny shrugs. "I grew up in a vault, believe it or not. Vault 21, out near what used to be Vegas. Fuckin' hated every minute of it, but it's the hand I was dealt. Back there, everything was decided by chance. Which, hey, suits me, I'm one hell of a high roller. Problem is, we couldn't leave. You could win everything there was to win in that vault, but at the end of the day, you were still stuck in a fuckin' vault."

"So, I left. They didn't wanna let me at first, but I challenged 'em to a game of Texas Hold 'em. I won my freedom. I left behind everything. My family, my friends, my girl. Sometimes I miss 'em, but I wouldn't trade this freedom for anything, y'know?" It's a rare moment where Benny actually seems genuine for a few moments.

You nod. In a way, you understand. The freedom you get from travelling the wastes can't be replicated anywhere else.

"Got any goals?"

"A few." Benny says, lighting up a cigarette.

"I want my own casino, for one. Some place out in New Reno would be nice. Plus, it wouldn't be bad to have 30 broads in one night, know what I'm sayin'?"

He cracks up at his own joke, and he's back to his old self, seemingly over thinking about his old vault once again.

Eventually, once he's done laughing, he turns towards you. "Well, what about you, Theseus? Where'd you come from?"

You haven't thought of home in a long time. It's been forever since you've been back there.

"I grew up in Junction City. It's out east of here, past Cheyenne. It wasn't a big city, but we made do with what we had, even if what we had wasn't enough. We were independent back then, but a chapter of the Brotherhood from out east came by and claimed our territory. I left about then."

You haven't talked about your past in a long while, it feels strange to think about now. You hadn't had much keeping you back there when the Brotherhood took over, so it was easy to leave.

"Damn. That's far out there, must have been one hell of a journey to get here, huh?"

You shrug. You're about to respond when you notice something strange about the fort.

The flag flying above, the New Californian Two-Headed Bear was ripped down, the fort was in blatant disarray, and most strikingly was the man, wrapped head to two in bandages, and hanged from his neck, the noose tied to the flagpole in place of the NCR flag.

"Well, fuck me." Benny says quietly, as you survey the scene.

Spray-painted on the wall are the words "Fort Abandon", with a red bull bainted below it.

>[Location discovered: Fort Abandon]

You and Benny approach cautiously, but true to the sign, Fort Aradesh seemed completely abandoned, with the exception of the hanging corpse.

After the prison, you'd hoped for a moment that you might be able to actually catch a break for once.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it, as the hanged man starts thrashing about, violently clutching at his neck.

You approach the man, deciding you need to act fast if you want to save him.

Benny yells after you, "What the hell do you think you're doin'?" but you don't stop to answer him. If he's really been hanged, the man doesn't likely have much time to live.

You start to work the pulley system of the flagpole, bringing the hanged man down, where you quickly grab a sharp rock and bring it down on the already frayed rope. The man collapses onto the ground, letting out several wretched, painful sounding coughs.

Attempting to push himself up onto his feet, the man struggles to stand, eventually collapsing in a heap.

"Please..." The man mumbles, his voice raspy and harsh, like it's a struggle to get the words out. "Finish me."

Benny stands behind you a ways, covering his eyes. "This is bad, Theseus. Real fuckin' bad."

[95, 96 = Success]

You don't have many supplies, but you can make do with what you have and at least attempt to stabilize him.

"Benny!" You call for your companion, "Help me carry him inside."

Benny, despite his reluctance does as you ask, helping you lift the wounded man and bring him into the fort.

Fort Abandon, true to its name doesn't look like anyone has been stationed here for a long time. You and Benny place the man on a table, and you quickly search for any medical supplies you can use.

You're in luck, as you find a small box with various medical supplies and even some water!

You set about the long process of tending to the man's wounds. You change his bandages, apply medication wherever you can, use a few herbs you sent Benny out to gather around the fort, and finally gave him a dose of Med-X to help him deal with pain.

Finally, after hours of tending to him, and using all the medical supplies in the box, you're confident the man won't die immediately, and he even seems capable of speech.

"Thank you." Is the first thing he says to you, upon coming to.

You nod, Benny's outside of the room. He made some sort of excuse to get outside, but you can tell he clearly doesn't want to be near the hanged man.

"What happened to you? I'm surprised you're alive at all. It's some kind of miracle you didn't die before I got to you."

He ponders for a few moments. "I was hanged."

You wonder if he'll leave it at that, but he eventually continues. "I ended up on the wrong side of Caesar's wrath. He tried to execute me by burning at first, but I survived. He was furious. So, he had me hanged. He ordered his men to leave me some slack, the bastard. Not enough to escape, but enough that I wouldn't die by the hanging. I'd die from dehydration first. He wanted it to be painful. To punish me for living, I suppose."

The Hanged Man looks wistful for a few moments, before turning back towards you. "Why would you save me? A man, hanged and left for dead, begging to be killed."

"Well," you ponder for a few moments, stroking your chin. "I guess it was just the right thing to do. Couldn't just walk past if you were still kicking, could I?" You offer a small smile, but the man just stares at you, with his cold, piercing blue gaze.

Finally, the man speaks. "That's... kind of you. Kindness like that is dangerous out here. I could have been a raider, some jet-junky, or anything worse out here." He pauses for a few moments. "It's also rare. You know, if you and your friend need protection, or a hired gun, I'm worth something in a fight.

You're about to respond when Benny enters the door, smelling of cigarette smoke. You wonder where he got his cigarettes from, since he's been wearing the same jumpsuit as you this whole time, and was stuck in the same cell as you. Regardless, he walks up to the two of you, forcing a smile, "Hey, uh... Theseus, baby, can I talk to you outside for a second? Got some... business stuff to talk to you about."

He leads you outside where his smile immediately drops and he starts pacing, running his hand through his hair. You can see from the multitude of cigarette butts on the ground, he's been chain-smoking out here.

"What's this about?" You ask. Even when hiding from robots that were actively shooting at you, Benny didn't look this scared.

Benny laughs, "What's this about? Baby, this is about the fact that you just killed both of us! That guy you just saved? That's the fucking Malpais Legate! Also known as, Caesar's fucking ace up his sleeve! The guy that tortured and killed his way into conquering all the tribes from here to Houston!"

You blink. You've heard of the Malpais Legate. You've never even come across the Legion directly, but you've still heard of the Malpais Legate. One of the greatest leaders and fighters the Legion had, and Caesar's right-hand man.

How the fuck did he end up here?

"Well, the way I see it, having the Malpais Legate on our side seems like a good thing, to me. He seems thankful that we saved him, and we could use the extra gun."

Benny thinks about it for a moment. "God damn it, I can't believe I'm about to say it, but if there's gonna be an ace in play, I'd rather it be in my hand, I guess. Look, I'll play it cool and go with the flow for now, but the minute I get the sign things with him might go south, I'm cashing out, baby. I don't wanna end up on a cross, pal."

You nod, "That's fair, I don't think anyone does."

Benny laughs a little, "I can't believe I ended up here. This was not where I thought my luck would turn after leaving the vault, I'll tell you that."

The two of you return inside, where you see the Hanged Man standing, leaning against the wall. "Have you resolved your business meeting?" He asks. You're shocked at how quickly he's able to stand, even if he is partially supporting himself with the wall. You would have expected him to be immobile for the rest of the night, but somehow he's able ot keep himself upright.

"Yeah," Benny says, forcing another smile. "We got it all smoothed out, no worries."

The Hanged Man nods slowly, "Good to hear. Now, where are we going?"

You think about it for a moment. You need to find out how you ended up in Tibbets, and what exactly was going on there. Of course, you don't exactly have many leads for that.

The Hanged Man speaks up again, "This place is built on a crossroads. To the south there's Flagstaff, to the west, Hoover Dam, the east lies Denver and the north," he pauses for a few moments, as if struggling with the name, "Jericho."

Flagstaff is the most western point of Legion territory. It's been thriving under Caesar's control, and has become a trade capitol of the Frontier, especially with traders who don't like dealing with the Caravan houses of the NCR. The legion patrols generally keep this place safe from bandits, so it attracts a lot of non-combative types that might not necessarily agree with NCR law.

Hoover Dam is the furthest point of the frontier in the NCR. The dam still functions, partially, and it used to be a huge trading hub. However, as the NCR has started to retreat from its expansion, Hoover Dam's been left with basically no support from California, and with regular Brotherhood of Steel attacks, the Dam might not hold for very long.

Denver, also known as Dog City is the largest independent city in the Four States. It's mostly run down now, and packs of wild, feral dogs roam the city. However it's high in resources, and there are multiple groups of salvagers fighting it out for resources. Not to mention Boulder nearby was apparently a big focus of NCR scientific research or something like that.

Finally, Jericho is a town built out of the remnants of the Jericho Water Purification Plant in the Mormon city of New Canaan. After New Canaan was consumed by riots by refugees from taken in by the New Canaanites. Jericho was born from the people who survived the rioters, mormons and refugees alike. The town has a clear divide between the two, but is currently thriving somewhat due to its water purification plant.

You decide it'd be best to explore the fort first, and leave for Denver in the morning.

The fort is mostly empty, with several buildings having been cut off when this fort was taken and partially destroyed. Inside you find a few corpses, wearing NCR fatigues, but their pockets and valuables have already been taken. The place looks relatively looted, but the thought occurs to you that if you could find a way to clear the rubble, you could probably reach deeper into the fort and find more valuable things.

Not to mention, that the more you think about it, the easier it seems to upgrade and clean up the fort. You could use it as a sort of home base, especially with it's central location in the Four-States.

>[Fort Abandon will serve as an optional upgradeable base throughout the quest. The further you upgrade it, the more important it will become in the region, potentially even thriving as a trading hub eventually.]

You find at least some relatively clean beds in the abandoned bunker, so the three of you sleep until morning. You hadn't realized how tired you were until you finally actually laid down to rest. You fell asleep nearly instantly.

You awaken the next morning to Benny screaming and the sound of gunfire.

You bolt out of bed, rushing out of the barracks, laser pistol in hand to see what's going on. As you reach the entrance to the fort, you see Benny's barricaded the front door shut, and you can hear someone outside shooting at the fort.

"There's a giant fuckin' robot gunning for us!" Benny shouts, as the gunfire stops momentarily.

"Prisoners! I am UNIT-ARGOS, I have come to return you to FACILITY-TIBBETS, if you do not comply, lethal force will have to be utilized!"

You look to Benny, "Give me some covering fire, I have an idea!"

Benny looks at you like he wants to argue, but you don't give him an opportunity, rushing out towards the robot immediately. Your timing is precise and you're able to get under the robot, to where its guns can no longer reach you, and you can reach its emergency control panel.

You're completely stumped, looking at the interface, but somehow through your random selection of options, you give the machine some sort of order that gets it to stop shooting.

"ORDER RECIEVED: UNIT-ARGOS will return to FACILITY-TIBBETS for a recharging cycle."

And with that, the slow-moving massive, building sized robot stomps off into the desert, heading back to the prison. As it walks, you notice some parts of its movement functions are clearly damaged, slowing it down.

For now, you're safe but you only temporarily disabled it. It's clear that ARGOS will continue pursuing you until you find out some way to truly escape Tibbets.

You return to the fort, where Benny stares at you in awe. "I swear, you must be playing with a loaded dice or something. Is there anything you can't do?"

"We should get a move on soon, have you seen him anywhere?" It's a little strange, since calling him the Malpais Legate doesn't seem exactly accurate, since you're pretty sure he isn't with the Legion anymore, but you don't know what else to call him.

"No, I didn't see him when the our robot friend woke me up..." Benny starts, but he's interrupted when the Hanged Man enters the room.

He looks between the two of you, the silence in the room, deafening, before the Hanged Man speaks. "I suppose you dealt with whatever was making all that noise?"

"Yeah, I got rid of it. It looks like some robot is trying to capture the two of us. Good news is, it's slow, and if we keep a good pace up, we can hopefully get to Denver and find out what's going on with this damn prison before ARGOS can catch up."

With everything at Fort Abandon taken care of for now, you, Benny and the Hanged Man set off, following the road east.
