In the last session we killed a giant snake with other hunters, had some conflicting feelings and bought a bunch of stuff for the village. We also spilled the beans to Haven who turned out to be some kind of an elf. A major reconstruction project of Farsalos has also officially started. Hopefully the villagers can wait for a couple of weeks while we are burying the sewers into the ground and anchoring foundations to the bedrock as it will definitely be worth it. Also our house is now bitchin'.

With only the quarter of the village left you decide to go a little bit beyond just the public buildings. Unfortunately the village entrances dictated a shape which was far from symmetrical so utilitarian looks would just not do. Luckily you have planned for that occasion making some villager homes look unique while maintaining their overall living area such as that house with an arch in the middle of it to allow carts to move from the central plaza to the northern housing district.

However, before you get to the western sector you need to finish with the very core of the village. You decided to make it a large flat paved area with a central well for easy water access. It is designed with the village growth in mind to potentially act as a market in the future. In the meantime villagers can use it as a meeting spot for major events and celebrations. In the center of the village you also place a well with an actual bronze crank to make it easier to get water from it.

However the most important part is underground. It is the nexus for the sewer and the piping as well as the shelter. Shelter is reinforced with almost a meter thick concrete and brick ceiling and walls and it contains enough seats, bunk beds and storage space for the entire village at full capacity to hide in for several weeks as well as a way to a lower level which leads to several camouflaged and sealed exits some distance away in the forests. It is pretty dark in here and even though villagers have access to torches being cooped up in these conditions would not be amazing until a replacement is found. Maybe oil lamps or candles?

After you have completed all the foundations, sewers, piping and road paving the time finally comes to utility buildings. Let's start with the town hall. Cenophila is a democratic state. Well, oligarchic republic technically but that doesn't matter that much. In any case they should have a place where all citizens can come and vote on policies. Thus you create a large dome with seats and a central podium similarly to lecture halls. It can perform a double duty by being a place to teach and a place to vote. It also has large openings for windows to let light in. You can't produce window glass yet unfortunately but it is the first building you would use it for if you could.

The second part of the town hall is a building with an office for the elder. She could probably use some space as she just had a table in her personal home previously. Now she will have an actual office with a whole cellar dedicated for bookkeeping with a large amount of bookshelves. You designed it similarly to the head clerk's office in Mirangi but with some modern insights such as a bathroom in the same building. On top of the building is a bell tower to call for village meetings. Making a bronze bell was a pain in the ass and required several tries but it can be used from the second floor through a rope system to make it easier for the elderly community leader.
>>
>>2798920
Next you decided to make a public bath. It won't be as grand as the one in the town but you will include at least one steam room as well as a temperate pool and a little bit shrunk down hot bath which is more like the size of a jacuzzi fitting only four people at a time. From the modern design you have added a shower area fed by a copper tank in the second floor which would be fed by the central pipeline when it is operational as well as separate dressing rooms with lockers. Unfortunately not with actual locks just yet but it would still be convenient.

Then goes the way less interesting process of adding a warehouse and replacing the granary. Your new building materials allowed you to replace the upper floor with sturdy brick and ceramic roof tiles but most importantly you have added coolant piping into the cellar. If you manage to get some power for the pump to run you would be able to lower the temperature in it similarly to how modern fridges operate. But instead of freon you use water. From what it seems the region has no real winters and they rarely see the snow so there should be no risk for pipes busting from frozen water.

The next building you decide to work on is a temple. Villagers are heavily religious people and you are not the one to judge. You have no idea how Cenophilan temples should be constructed but you follow general descriptions from Oisin to plan out the areas for statues and so on. Apparently the larger towns use pantheon temples as voting spots as Elspeth is supposed to be a goddess of democracy too. The individual deity temples and shrines are usually just spread around the city and smaller villages use a small temple or no temple at all depending on the available resources.

While you were levitating a pallet full of bricks and some wooden beams for upcoming barrack/guard facility into position you've heard a commotion starting somewhere along the road from the main entrance and you didn't pay it too much attention at first but what it was almost made you drop the levitated bricks on your head. You barely managed to catch them inches away from your face.

Four villagers have returned from the warzone. And they are standing there gawking at your impressive ability to hold half a ton of bricks in midair while other villagers surround them and have no idea what to do. Uhh...

>...hi? Carefully lower the bricks on the ground and walk up to meet the newcomers

A short telekinetic manipulation later you manage to place the materials on the guard office foundation. It was supposed to become a place to store weapons for village self defense and to keep the guard when village grows to required size. But right now you have more pressing matters.

You approach the armed newcomers and greet them. They are quite shocked by your unintentional display of power so you have to spend some time explaining who you are. The soldiers seems somewhat distrustful and scared of you but you hope that they will come around with time.

There are four villagers returning from the war. As the war is not yet over only those who have wounds which make them unfit for service have managed to return. Group consists of three men in their mid 40-s and a guy who appears 25 or so. One man has a badly broken arm which seems to be fixed in place with a makeshift splint. He will probably require a surgery to fully heal. Another is missing a left eye. You don't think you can help him much beyond making a cosmetic replacement. The youngest of them is missing a foot and is using clutches to get around. It would be possible to make spring action prosthetic when you get access to spring iron as bronze spring would not be sufficient.

From important people only the blacksmith has returned. Ironically he is missing most of his fingers on his right hand making him absolutely useless in his craft. Something tells you that you could potentially make unpowered articulated prosthetic for his fingers if you put in some effort. This should be enough to return him to workforce fully but alternatively this could teach him a thing or two as he interacts with his daughter. You decide to return to this subject when you get some free time.

The group seems to really dislike Oisin and claim that the guy lied about how dangerous the monster was. Even though a small huntsmen team died wholesale trying to take it on. Priest on the other hand tries to defend himself by claiming that you are the most powerful person he has ever met. Stronger than some Cup Bearers. All the shouting is starting to annoy you so you decide to...

>Demonstrate your powers by moving obscene amounts of building materials to the construction site to halt this discussion
>Quietly continue construction and return when the heat has lowered
>Propose to celebrate the occasion and go out to hunt something for the occasion
>Distract everyone with village's new features
>Bargain them to calm down by promising to treat the wounds and build prosthetics for the newcomers later

Ok, this is starting to get on your nerve so it is time to stop this. However people won't just calm down if you tell them to calm down. In fact that would probably make them angrier. So you decide to give them something to think about and leave them for some time so that the heat drops off.

You bump directly into the discussion and tell everyone that it is really great that they arrived and it warrants a celebration. You can hunt for something and the chickens were giving out eggs every day since you got them. However you would really like to wrap up with construction so let's do that in the evening. In the meantime look at all the new large spare houses ready for new tenants and that new bathhouse that you can fill up just for the occasion.

On that note you walk out of the village to grab more frames and bricks as villagers are left with a dud discussion. Luckily you manage to zone back into building mood pretty fast. There is something intrinsically rewarding as you work on something not for a reward but because you want to. The building itself takes about four hours to assemble and a good chunk of the village stops to watch as brick wall assembles itself in place and how wooden beams float across the sky like they are feathers.

This will be a primary guard post of the village. It is right near to the gate. You could have made it closer to the main gate but it already has the towers anyway and you needed it close to the fields for villagers to hear the alarm. You have fixed a ww2 air siren on top of the tower. When the alarm should go off a villager can flip a lever causing a counterweight to slowly lower through the length of the building as a gearbox inside rapidly spins the disc causing loud wailing sound relaying the "drop everything and go to shelter" message across the fields and the rest of the village. After you are done with the threat you can manually reset it or a villager could apply a crank mechanism on the gearbox to slowly raise the counterweight.

The facility also contains an extensive underground armory which is currently only filled with a whole load of copper pikes and stuff which was left over from the bandits. You might want to look into improving the arsenal at a later date. Maybe a couple roman scorpios for bigger beasties? You would still need iron for the crank mechanism and bracings. Or maybe a whole load of padded armor. You will need to take a look at this later on...

The rest of the facility is designed for growth. Things like a couple offices for guards and several reinforced cells with benches and beds for temporary detaining criminals. In the end the building is complete and the project is finally done. You hope that villagers are happy for all of this new stuff.

It is time to hunt something real quick for the feast. You don't want to wear your armor or rip your dress so you decide to once again put on the blue jumpsuit and cover it with the cloak as you run off into the forest...

As you scout the forest for prey you manage to get quite a haul. Whole two adult elks, a boar and several grouses after just three hours of searching. All killed without any problems by clever application of telekinesis. As you pack though you see a large shadow pass above the tree tops. Instinctively you dived deeper into the canopy while trying to see what was causing it as if you were a mouse hiding from a hawk. Moments later you find the culprit. A black winged silhouette cruising roughly 30 kilometers above the forest at supersonic speed leaving condensation trails as it passes like a jet aircraft.

Fuck, are there dragons now? Luckily it was just flying past this area of the forest towards somewhere in the western Cenophila region. It just passed across the area where you were hunting causing an audible bang once sound waves caught up to you. The whole event makes you feel small. You can't really fly and this thing is probably like a living cruise missile. Flies fast and kills whole cities. You really hope the place it attacks is well defended enough to live through it.

As you were returning to the village you stop. Your senses spike as they detect something that scares you. Consequential gamma ray and neutron radiation pulses followed some time later by remote shockwaves. They are way too weak to harm anyone or even be noticeable without sensitive equipment but they came from the direction of the dragon's flight. They immediately fit the pattern of small scale thermonuclear weapons in your mind. You look at the high altitude clouds in that direction and see flashes reflecting off them after which they just stop.

Did the pantheon just fucking nuked the dragon repeatedly? Do they even have nuclear weapons? Or do they have Cup Bearers who can cast something comparable? Or maybe they personally came there to deal with that threat? Or was that dragon's breath nuclear? Not all flashes had the same radiation signature though. Fuck, this is scary. You are glad you made your base so deep underground...

You hurry back home to think through it but as you came out of the forest you hear it. Wailing sound of the air raid siren. Village is in trouble! And the walls are not even fixed yet!

Fuck the food, villagers are more important. You drop your game where you stand and rush for the village making it your goal to be there as soon as physically possible. Unfortunately you can't get enough traction to run any faster than you already do so you attempt to fly. However you can't fully manage to keep yourself in the air for long so you switch to a hybrid solution: wide telekinetically augmented strides. Sort of like a jedi. After the first bug into the teeth you also add a small deflection field around your face but you managed to squeeze out almost 250 km/h out of your legs with no severe ill effects in a dead sprint.

As you approach the village wall you make a powered hop into the very middle. Every villager managed to follow the instruction of losing everything and getting into the shelter as few were running to their houses as you appeared. It seems that we have guests. Huge guests.

There are three silhouettes towards the forest. They are five to six meter tall humanoids. Honestly they would not be much different from normal humans if they were not so huge. One has a tower shield which for it him is more like a buckler and a huge wooden club. Others are equipped with a sling and a bow respectively. Ranged giants appear to be female.

That bow is probably packing a punch comparable to a ballistae while a sling can probably fling rocks faster than a trebuchet so they are not to mess with. How should you approach?

>Attempt diplomacy. Maybe they are people too?
>Hover menacingly and make a small tornado of debris around you. You are like vengeful goddess and they should get the hell off your turf!
>Make a warning shot with something sizeable

There is no time to get your fancy armor or halberd out of your cellar. But it is not like you need it. You can deal comparable damage with your bare hands and underwear! However, the guard post is close enough so you run in and grab a bunch of spears from the rack and get out of the village to meet the threat.

As you exit the archer takes aim but the melee guy waves her off and laughs as he mockingly gestures you to try to attack. He is not taking you seriously. A big mistake...

With the right hand you prepare to throw the spear at the giant while with the left you flip him off. The spear flies right into the center of mass but he easily blocks with his shield as you close in for a melee. It is time to get serious. You manage to dodge away from a highly telegraphed club swing and drive the spear into his leg. Unfortunately it seems that his skin is thicker and more resilient than elephant's skin so the spear doesn't even get through the entire tip before it loses all the energy.

Well, shit. It looks like this would be a bigger hassle than you thought. Well, time for some prolonged tank and spank. After almost five minute of constant dodging and spear stabbing the giant shouts to his subordinates in a broken Cenophilan to shoot you already. You manage to dodge the arrow and a boulder that pulverizes a log in the palisade right behind you. Unfortunately this left you open for some clubbing.

Everything went blank for a fraction of a second as you found yourself sailing through the air. The swing managed to fling you to the height of a five story building and all the way across the entire village. Your jaw is a bit numb and you can't feel several bottom teeth with your tongue. Who knew that giants can really pull skyrim on you? Luckily your teeth can grow back... right? I mean, sharks can grow back their teeth so why not you? ...right?

It takes you something like two augmented jumps to get to the gates again and you are now quite a bit more pissed.

Hey guys let's not fight. Melee is not objectively worse since as giants presumably have martial culture and thus besting their own in melee would have benefits. It is just plain risky and more difficult than other options. So if we choose it we want to keep combat telekinesis relatively secret and we value the diplomatic reward it provides. Telekinetic tackle to be honest is the same but with combat telekinesis showoff. Imploding on the other hand is fast, lethal and intimidating.

Well, if they want to play rough you can play rough. With a telekinetic push you fling yourself so hard that you travel ten meters towards the melee giant and apply a powered haymaker directly into the jaw knocking him off his feet as you continue to coast for another five meters or so before landing. Before he gets up you jump again and ram your both fists into his chest sending him back into the ground.

"Haymaker, giant, EAT IT" you scream as this continues for almost a minute as his face and body gets pulped up. In the end you feel weird satisfaction as you succeed in punching out his canines along with several other teeth. The ranged giants don't even try to shoot you and just watch in amazement as their boss gets his ass handed to him.

To finish up you perform a similar jump but almost directly from below him sending his body flying into the air and dropping face first into the ground unconscious. One down, two to go.

"Drop your weapons!" This is the only demand you give to the giants. They hesitate for a bit but eventually they follow your order. You don't have any way to detain them so you just order them to stand in the open as you question them. They speak a bit less broken Cenophilan than their unconscious friend but the errors and accent is still painfully obvious. They also use much simpler wording but you can relatively easily understand them.

They claim to be here for some scouting as they search for the new areas for supply raids. Giants can't do farming but they also can't live off pure meat so they have to raid settlements to maintain a healthy diet. Their current population is not sustainable through forest scavenging and they don't produce anything humans would want for trade. If they wanted to maintain contact that is.

Giants also have pretty warlike culture. Somewhat like a mix of fantasy barbarians and ancient iron age tribes of Germania. They live in villages surrounded by dirt and palisade walls and they value martial prowess. Due to being a little smaller and less aggressive, giant females generally have lower status with some notable exceptions. They have almost no metallurgy to speak of and mainly rely on looted and stolen metal items to recycle for their tools and weapons.

Their current village has about 140 people. There used to be way more villages but Cenophilan military expansion a century ago forced them to either join up, migrate out of their territory or stay in remote isolated villages. Usually humans have no chance to take down even a small group of giants as their skin alone is enough to stop most weapons and makes them immune to even war bows. The siege weapons have some success in wounding and killing them though. Giants claim that their slingers are feared as living siege weapons as they can throw larger stones further and more often than human siege engines.

These giants seem to think that you are one of the Cenophilan Cup Bearers and they claim that they will never show up in this area. It is too far away and not worth the trouble of taking on someone like you. What should you do with them...

So, these people need food. You need guards and workers for the village. It is pretty obvious that you could exchange one for the other. Giants think about it but reply that they don't make the decisions for the whole village. They would need to discuss it with their leaders and then return several days later with proposition.

They note, however, that this village while being developed is too small to offer enough food for the giants. A giant would require almost the entire field's output of crops for sustenance. You would have to make several trips for seeds and prepare a lot more land for planting. However, clearing fields is the manual labor that giants could do. Or you if you are up for it.

The giants pack up and carry off their badly beaten up boss as you wait for them to leave just in case and then sprint for your game. Somehow you were lucky enough as nothing has decided to claim it just yet so the village party is back on schedule.

Villagers are somewhat scared of the prospect of working along the giants but you reassure them that you will be around just in case. Some are not even surprised of your shenanigans anymore. Your slightly less than perfect smile is only half as reassuring as it could be but you hope that your genes include just enough of shark to fix it in a couple weeks... Or months... Well, in the worst case you can manually put in some fake teeth and still look presentable when you get your hands on some better materials, right? Nothing to worry about, surely.

The party goes pretty smoothly all things considered. It took some time for the villagers to calm down but with your help the food was prepared and the tables were set. Just as you planned village center is an amazing place for these sorts of things.

The newcomers seem to have mainly calmed down and after some tales about your shenanigans from the villagers they even stopped glancing at you from across the table and watching your every move. They are far from trusting but at least they no longer feel like sitting on a Schrödinger cat activated powder keg.

The soldiers tell some stories from the war. It seems that Cenophilan military is slightly more advanced than Roman empire army. They have standardized iron gear, primitive field artillery in the form of various anti infantry ballistae and rock throwers, strict discipline and robust supply lines. Their opponent, the Valistrat Empire, seems to have similar technologies and military structure but more numerous infantry and better cavalry.

Valistrat invaded Cenophilan border region with 6 times more manpower than garrisoned troops but border forts managed to hold them off until more could be mobilized and broke the siege on the major regional fortress. Cenophilans could not advance upon this victory though. Currently it seems that Cenophila would force a white peace, but the speeds of army movement and unwillingness of Valistratans to quit would mean it will take up to a year and a half.

From what it seems, we won't be seeing up to a quarter of the recruited villagers. Most young men with not many ties decided to go for a professional military occupation. Cenophilan military service like in many iron age nations is around 20 years. They would come home super late in other words. There were few casualties however. A couple recruits have managed to die but no one from the families you care particularly about.

As villagers retire after a meal and a bath you are left deciding what to do...

We will fix the gate and the wall anyway no matter what we choose so that it is just gets out of the picture

>Defenses. Walls need repairing... but maybe you could do even more. Better walls or ballistae? Or maybe an extra perimeter?
>Fields. You are yet to plant the flax and you need to plan out some area for when giants pop up. You could do that when they arrive anyway but it pays to be prepared

To continue with self sufficient expansion of the village it is paramount to perform a geological survey of local area. The only way to do so here is with trial and error. Drilling a hole and testing resulting rock for useful minerals and ores. You don't have gravimetric satellites to find potential areas of interest so all you can hope for is to drill in a pattern and get lucky. The copper mine was pretty obvious for iron age prospectors as it was situated inside an exposed hill. You won't be so lucky. Thus you create a tiny mobile smelter to test the materials and set off on your expedition.

First of all you need to figure out the types of rock in the area. That should give you hints to how the place was formed and potential minerals you can find. After several dozens of telekinetic boreholes you have a good general idea. The whole place is mainly volcanic rock with some areas of subvolcanic rock with mid to high concentrations of silicon dioxides. It means that the area is mainly made out of andesite, dacite and rhyolite with some areas of basalt, microgranite, aplite , microdiorite and microgranodiorite. There are no signs of any metamorphic and very few sedimentary rocks. Thus you conclude that the area is geologically young and underwent through a lot of volcanism in its recent history.

Aplite cluster gave you the first two successful discoveries: quartz and feldspar. Quartz is useful for many applications but most importantly it is the main component of quartz glass and it is also piezoelectric with many uses in electronics such as quartz resonators. Feldspar is used in glassmaking and ceramics as an admixture. It improves product hardness, durability, and resistance to chemical corrosion.

Basalt has some amount of augite you could extract. It is mainly used in jewelry, particularly in Turkey. It has few other uses.

You didn't really expect it but you have also found a minor source of Spodumene. In other words it is lithium ore. It is also useful for glass making. Unfortunately refining lithium requires electrolysis and vacuum distillation which is a little bit out of your reach at the moment.

Microgranite has a large amount of muscovite. This material is widely used for fireproofing, insulation and industrial lubricant. Historically it could also be used as a cheaper replacement of glass but the cluster is lower quality than quartz so it is debatable if you'd attempt such feat.

You are pretty lucky as you've almost missed a pretty deep concentration of olivine. This material can be used as a substitute for dolomite in steelworks which means you have a primary flux ingredient for your iron manufacturing. However it was mainly used worldwide to capture atmospheric carbon. The reaction is exothermic and can be used as a power source but it is extremely slow. Powdered olivine weathers away within a year.

And the last but not least is the most important find yet! You decided to dig deeper into the granite layer to discover what appears to be magnetite crystals. It seems that they were formed similarly to iron deposits in Chile. This is incredibly rare for magnetite to form in such way and it is pretty crappy quality. It would require some substantial refining to get it out. You might need to create a large magnet and a crusher to get it out of the rock and even then you will have to use flux to refine it.

In any case, that was quite fruitful day and a half. You have found other interesting types of rocks but none are as important as the magnetite and olivine. You can officially start making some iron! Unfortunately they are pretty far low in the ground, almost at the very bedrock if not right in it. They would be really hard for humans to excavate. You will have to either create some machinery or mine it yourself. Or both.

Giants said that they will come back in several days, which means your projects would have to be quite village centered. You'll probably not be able to do much before they arrive but you can plan for a bit at least.

Let's plan some...
>Defenses. Copper pikes just won't do. Let's build some new and better pointy sticks!
>Fields. We have a spare field that we can plow and use. Also the mill is pretty shit and might need some substantial upgrades...
>Construction. Maybe a glass workshop? Or a blast furnace facility?
>Research. That giant bow gave you a few ideas. Also you need to somehow learn to fly at some point. Or maybe you'd like to dive into some longer term projects
>>
>>2802348
>Research: Try to learn more about the direction where that "nuke" has gone to, start cataloguing the local flora maybe we can find something useful like willows or fruit/nut trees, also we somewhat need to learn to fly at some point
>>
>>2802367
The dragon battle happened way out of your reach. You estimate that you would need up to a week of travel to reach that area if you were traveling day and night at maximum sustainable rate. The forest has strangely low biodiversity but it has some useful plants, mushrooms and trees.
>>
>>2802384
No, no I mean learning from the villager about the approximate location, AKA what it might have hit even if we don't know they might. As for the long term project it's more about starting an herb garden like the monasteries of old, while it might not be useful to us and our cheat like regeneration it will be to the villager.

First order of business in your mind is to find out what the hell was that dragon thing and where did it go. From what you can tell by the delay between radiation pulses and shockwaves the event happened roughly 160 kilometers away westward. Villagers don't know of any large settlements in that area but this region has minor agricultural significance. It appears that this area has access to the ocean and is famous for its fish. Luckily it seems that Rendina, the large shipbuilding polis, is further to the south west along the coast so it was out of the way of the danger. The area also has some fortifications and garrison as defense against possible aggression from the "Holies"(Holy Nation) to the north.

Villagers get worried when you tell them about what you saw. They claim that it could have been an unknown major monster. Attacks of these creatures can devastate entire regions of the country. However, they have a legend about particular creature of that caliber. They call it "the Fallen". It is rumored to resurrect somewhere after it dies and it sometimes raids Cenophila and Valistrat territories seemingly at random attempting to deal maximum human casualties leaving glassy soil and ash where nothing grows.

Areas decimated by this creature get a visit of dozens of Cup Bearers aligned with goddess of harvest and god of stone who restore it to normal within several months. It is also said that gods themselves use their powers to directly harm the creature from way back from their base of operations near to polis of Elspen. Very obscure reference here, girl. In any case you can't quite figure out if the pantheon has nuclear missile silos and they nuke it from way across the nation or if the dragon has nuclear breath or something. You are not sure if you could figure it out without endangering yourself. You would either need a way of rapid travel or some kind of remote drone to find out for sure. But until then you have to assume that Cenophila and potentially other pantheons have access to at least short range strike capability and it would be smart not to antagonize them for no reason.

After you were done with the dragon problem you were approached by Rheia. She is still unsure about joining you full time but she would like to learn some things from you and get to know you better. You agree and decide that the first thing you can do is teach her some things about wild herbs. In addition to that you will scout the area for potential plants to domesticate later. You have this idea to create a garden on the spare spot in the western sector of the village. It would work like a cross between a monastic garden and a park. Villagers could visit it for recreational purposes while it would grow spices and medicinal plants.
>>
>>2802536
Rheia is a quick learner and you manage to find some wild blackberry and strawberry, lavender, comfey, walnut and birch trees. There are also a few other wild herbs but most have only culinary or minor medicinal use. A long time ago you would evacuate the area which had birch trees in it due to massive allergies but you no longer suffer from it so you can finally try some of that sap. Unfortunately it is not the correct time for sap collection. Sap is usually collected in the spring. But you can wait, you have a whole eternity for that.

As you return you manage to finish planting the vegetable field. It is now done and is capable of producing enough food for the village in of itself. Shame you couldn't find any onions as it would allow for passive protein production. In any case the food situation is finally secured and if you leave now the villagers won't slowly starve in a month or so. Progress!

As you were plowing the last remaining field to kickstart the production of linen the village is approached by one of the giants. She explains that after some debate it was decided that it would benefit the settlement to trade with us. They are interested in metals, products made out of metal and all the food we can sell. They are willing to lend up to four giants. Any more would strain their defenses.

In return they would want an output of two fields per giant. One grain and one general veggies. This is calculated with both feeding the giant and the fee to the giant settlement. We can't currently sustain this rate and would need to massively expand our agriculture to meet the demand. Giant designates the exact location of their settlement and informs you that you can visit them once you are ready for trade. Your shiny armor should be enough to identify you. Giants will not attack the village itself as it is too far away to sustainably raid the area and as it is protected by you personally.

After relaying this information giant leaves allowing you to process the proposition. In the meantime you wrap up with planting the field. By the middle of autumn you should have your first linen harvest.

You would really like to show villagers around the place and introduce them to the wonders of running water but before you can do it you need to actually get the water running. In other words you need a water tower.

This project is not just a water tower, you have some bigger plans than just pumping aquifer to the surface. You want to reach modern standards of drinking water. Or as close as you can. Villagers have to boil the water from the well and people from the town drink more beer and wine than water. Time to fix that.

You pick a spare spot in the village and you create a borehole leading all the way to the aquifer. There you create a large concrete reservoir which fills up with water and has a pipe leading into the large holding tank on the surface. From this tank with the help of gravity water passes into a multistage coal filter into a similar container and after which it is pumped into a bronze water tank four stories up inside a brick tower. It has a double role of currently being the highest vantage point in the entire village.

Test drive through temporary telekinetic crank is successful. The main problem now is how to power the darn thing permanently. Pumps were relatively simple and they are based on siphon principle but they still require energy to operate. You could use a windmill. A few farms in Mirangi had primitive windmills. This will however use up most of the village's supply of textiles or require prototyping with wooden blades.

You could try to make a primitive steam engine. Current materials would put limitations on its pressure and efficiency but it would run no matter the wind. However it would be painfully obvious that you are doing some higher tech machinery for anyone visiting. There has to be a reason why locals are limited to iron age tech. You could hide one in your lab as the exhaust is the same as the home's heater but not in a standalone building.

You could also make a telekinetic engine. You have some experience with powering machinery through your powers. If you make a hand cranked mechanism for the villagers and also a secret telekinetic crank you could potentially hide it. Unfortunately you'd have to come over once every day and crank it up yourself.

>Textile windmill. You'll need to go to the town and get some more afterwards.
>Wooden windmill. Wood is not aluminum so you will have to mess with designs. Maybe rip off some ww1 aircraft engines?
>Steam engine. Full steam ahead!

You think for a bit on how to approach this problem. Steam engine could easily power the water tower but the first cenophilan investigator who sees it would report you to the pantheon. Or what would be worse is if this world has high tech homing monsters. It doesn't sound too probable but who knows, right? You saw a supersonic dragon just two days ago and monsters from the stories happily wrecked empty cities until no stone was left standing.

So the choice naturally falls to wind power. There is no river nearby and you want something that can work without you. Cenophilan windmills seem to use large textile sails. Unfortunately the village currently is not capable of producing sufficient amount of textiles and they would either have to sit without replacement clothes for three months or you would have to go and buy some. You don't like this option.

This leaves only wooden windmills. But wood is not aluminum. You can't just carve out a huge airfoil out of one. You need to account for the centrifugal forces and on the performance of specific types of wood. Early propeller aircrafts encountered similar problems and they were solved through the same way longbows did it: composite wood.

World record propeller was something like seven meters in diameter. However you are dealing with much lower rpm and thus you could go slightly bigger. However, you don't have precise calculations for exact performance of locally available wood in your head. Time for some experimentation and research!

You spend the next couple days creating glues, cutting down trees and making various sized propellers of different compositions and then spinning them up until they disintegrate in your lab. This has not only allowed you to create a propeller 6 meters wide with triple safety margin but also improved your understanding of composite wood. It will be easier to create composite wooden projects such as bows with specific parameters in the future. You already have some ideas on war bows with insane draw weights.
>>
>>2802858
However you can't just plop it on the side of the building. The housing is almost as important as the windmill. The crankshaft is made to pass through the water tower as you construct the windmill on top of it to harvest wind more effectively. You manage to harvest and polish granite spheres creating a large ball bearing and lubricating it with muscovite to allow the nacelle to rotate along with the wind. A safety mechanism is also introduced. A small centrifugal governor inside detects when rotation speed exceeds safety limits and deploys breaks halting the rotation of the windmill in case of a major storm.

The windmill is finally operational and villagers are amazed at clean water on demand in every building. You still recommend the water to be boiled just in case but they now have kettles for a reason. You will replace the filter with activated carbon once you get access to high temperature steam.

Rheia is fascinated with how complicated the mechanism is while underlying processes are so simple. She asks you to teach her how you do it. You decide that you will just take her while you are doing your projects and teach her how they work while giving her some lessons on mathematics when taking breaks. You can't have engineers eyeballing their creations even though that's exactly what you've been doing this entire time.

Now as you have access to mechanical power...
>Mechanize the industrial district. No more should the saw and the forge bevels worked manually! Be gone manual labor!
>Make an actual mill. The farm was not rebuilt yet and villagers still have to mill the grain by hand.
>Make an irrigation system. You can make a smaller water tower and drag watering pipes across the fields to free up the labor

Time to replace the last original building in the village. The mill and farm. It is strangely sad as the last remnant of the former village is finally gone but it has to be done. It is too primitive and damaged to be fully repaired. And new building would be better and easier to use than the hand cranked mill.

In the next several hours you methodically deconstruct and rebuild the entire farm area. Abandoned pasture areas are reconstructed, rotting wood is replaced, holes patched up and so on. The building itself grows almost two times. Now it has a large brick tower tipped with a large articulated windmill. The crank mechanism powers completely new grindstones and is also tapped to provide for other amenities.

One of such amenities is a small water pump and coal filter. Most of the power is required for milling process so it can't be used to water the fields but it is enough to have running water for a small recreational area. In addition the cellar is now actively cooled. It is now a miniature granary for temporary storage of perishables.

Additional tools are also added such as grain separators and washers. Villagers only need to load grain from one side and empty separation bins from grain and chaff. You also add a vibration separator to get varied quality of flour once you gain access to wheat. At this rate you will have to make a bakery.

In the end the farm is complete and farmers curiously observe it as it operates. Let's see what other things you could do...

>Taxes. You wanted to smelt a bunch of copper to pay instead of the food tax
>Minerals. You want to exploit the newly discovered deposits. This warrants mines and warehouses on site
>Mechanization. The more you power the more the village can do on its own
>Medicine. Four villagers are suffering from major disabilities. You need prosthetics, antibiotics, sterile environment and so on. Would they trust you to operate on them though?

You look back at everything that you've done in the last week. You've finished nonstop construction of the village, fought giants, single handedly performed geological survey and material study. And during this process you hanged out with Rheia for like two days and facilitated a celebration. You have never been such a workaholic. Especially for nonstop hard labor. Lack of pressing needs for human interaction or rest turned you into a machine. You need to slow down. Villagers need to get used to what they gained in these weeks and you need to hang out with people more.

That's it. You are officially on a break. No more grand projects or superhuman efforts for a while. You are just going to hang out and mingle with the villagers. Your mind gives you some advantages to that like becoming more relatable but frankly you don't care about that, you care about your own sanity much more.

For the following week you will just fix minor problems and help villagers with new technologies. They still need some time to get used to all this stuff. The first person you direct your attention to is Rheia. She wanted some more contact with the real you so you show her some of the real you. You tell her a little about your world, share some stories from books and movies. While often behaving like an adult she is still 16. She should have all rights to be a child for just a bit more.

You also meet up with the other villagers. Zosime enjoys her office and a small package of prototype paper you've made for her. Xanthe thanks you for the food security. She has finally stopped sneaking into the forest for extra rations. Pelagia is getting better with the forge and she no longer needs your tips on how to cast and forge bronze tools. Returned soldiers seem to be getting around okay. The guy with the broken arm will heal but his arm won't work without reconstructive surgery. They are just trying to fit in.

A decision to retell the stories from books and movies of your time ends up collecting quite a few people in the evenings. After a couple stories you've decided to make small puppets of various characters. Controlling them while retelling the stories turned out to be quite a challenge but you quickly adapted and the scenes could now support up to eight separate puppets. By the end of the week you managed to introduce the village to a good chunk of the Journey to the West. In particular to how mischievous monkey king became immortal six ways till Sunday and pissed off the entire Chinese pantheon. Truly Sun Wukong is the most memorable character from the whole cast.

You note, however, that the blacksmith is quite a bit grumpy. He has been trying to somehow fashion himself to work in his craft but he failed and thus he just looks depressed. Luckily there is no alcohol here in the village or he would probably start drinking.

The blacksmith has a pretty familiar name Conrad. He was not particularly talkative but after a few attempts you've managed to get him speaking in private. Conrad likes his profession. He was a mildly renowned smith in Mirangi before he decided to settle down in this village with his wife.

He has nothing against his daughter but he didn't expect her to become a smith like him. Being a smith is hard physically taxing work so mainly men do it, even though it is not specifically gender restricted. After his wife has passed his job remained one of the few things he enjoyed and now he just can't find anything to do and thus he feels useless.

After some thought you come up with the solution. You check his hand and assess the damage. The cut happened before the knuckle leaving small remnants of his four fingers while his thumb is intact. Human fingers have few muscles inside of them. They are mainly contracted through tendon tension. A wrist mounted harness can transfer the tension from the healthy part of the hand to prosthetic finger allowing for movement without any nerve linking or servomotors. This innovation once vastly reduced the cost of arm prosthetics which previously relied on precise motors in each joint.

You claim that the development of this device would take quite some time and resources thus you recommended him to spend more time with his daughter. This should give him enough hope to not completely fall into despair and you hope that it would help their relationship. About the project, you could make a half working prototype by the end of the evening if you really wanted but you feel like holding off for it for a little while would be beneficial for them. By that point you would work out all the kinks and make it out of better materials. Damn, this sounds a bit dark of you but it should all work out, right?

Given how common Bauxite usually is would it be possible to smelt some aluminum in the near future by creating a telekinises driven electric generator out of magnetite and copper?
>>
>>2803470
Thanks for running
>>
>>2803737
We can create a generator and then produce bauxite if we find sufficient amounts of it. Bauxites however need to pass through Bayer process to turn into aluminum oxide which can then be electrolyzed into metal. It involves crushing, milling, pressure vessels, filtering, crystallization and rotary kilns.

Unfortunately the area is mainly magmatic and bauxite is sedimentary which means it is probably not within immediate area. We might find nephelite as it is magmatic aluminum ore used mainly by Russia. This ore is baked with limestone in rotating furnace at the temperature of 1250-1350 degrees. After that it has to undergo breaking process which turns it into aluminum oxide, potash and soda. After that aluminum can be actually electrolyzed into metal. It is possible to do but it is not that easy. We need quite some industry to produce required machines and we might need an actual power plant instead of a telekinesis crank.
